- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. Red River
- 0:04Speaker 1: Shootout this weekend. The preview for Oklahoma and Texas is
- 0:09Speaker 1: brought to you by PrizePix, where all new users who
- 0:10Speaker 1: play a $ 5 lineup and win get $ 150 in lineups
- 0:13Speaker 1: instantly if they use code HMA. Got my guy Jay
- 0:17Speaker 1: on to talk about Sooners and Longhorns.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Jay, how's it going, man?
- 0:22Speaker 3: You know, I'm just hoping everybody has fun. Is that no,
- 0:27Speaker 3: but we've hit that point, man. We've hit that rock
- 0:30Speaker 3: bottom spot of just hoping everybody has fun. No, I'm good.
- 0:33Speaker 3: You know, it's post bye week for both teams. And
- 0:37Speaker 3: I'm gonna be honest. I'm not feeling all that great
- 0:40Speaker 3: about this game, but at the same time, this game
- 0:43Speaker 3: always turns out some weird stuff. So let's see what happens.
- 0:47Speaker 1: So that, that is a good place to start because
- 0:50Speaker 1: you can't, I don't think we could do just a
- 0:52Speaker 1: game preview with this.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Like we could at other times, other seasons, other big games.
- 0:57Speaker 1: You do have to talk about the, the big picture
- 0:59Speaker 1: goings on at Oklahoma and there in Norman. Is that,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I mean, every, you know, the coaching staff, the team
- 1:07Speaker 1: is going to tell you like, Hey, we're locked in.
- 1:09Speaker 1: We're going to go out and we're going to take
- 1:10Speaker 1: care of business and do all the right things. the
- 1:12Speaker 1: fan sentiment. And then maybe more importantly, like, is this
- 1:16Speaker 1: game important for like Venables tenure? Like if this got
- 1:21Speaker 1: really ugly, could like the, he get turned up on
- 1:23Speaker 1: him enough to where people would be like, all right, man,
- 1:26Speaker 1: this is not working here. Or just how do you
- 1:29Speaker 1: assess just what this game means? Big picture for the
- 1:33Speaker 1: program for rent, uh, specifically like the fan mood of
- 1:38Speaker 1: trying to be bought in on this staff and regime.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Like, What are your thoughts around all of that stuff,
- 1:42Speaker 2: big picture, before we get to the actual game?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Well, I mean, when it comes to BV and having
- 1:49Speaker 3: the defense, the defense has been good. Like the defense
- 1:51Speaker 3: and all the advanced metrics is the top five defense
- 1:53Speaker 3: in the country, which is very depressing to have when
- 1:55Speaker 3: your offense doesn't want to give you that chance to
- 1:57Speaker 3: be able to do it, be able to be great.
- 2:00Speaker 3: So I think that the heat will turn on for him,
- 2:03Speaker 3: but I don't think it's a realistic thought that anybody's
- 2:06Speaker 3: going to consider getting rid of him, mainly because his
- 2:08Speaker 3: defenses are really good. And I've always said that once
- 2:12Speaker 3: his defense starts slipping out of the top 20 in
- 2:14Speaker 3: any given season, then I've got my questions about him
- 2:17Speaker 3: as a coach. But he's still got those dudes up.
- 2:20Speaker 3: They are number five in the country in pass defense,
- 2:22Speaker 3: which is kind of insane if you really think about it.
- 2:25Speaker 3: And they're one of the top 10 teams in total defense.
- 2:29Speaker 3: And that's just the raw numbers. But then you go advanced,
- 2:31Speaker 3: they're like top five, four and three in a lot
- 2:33Speaker 3: of spots, mainly because they do a really good job
- 2:36Speaker 3: of making it hard for everybody else. The problem is,
- 2:38Speaker 3: is the offense is making it really hard on the
- 2:40Speaker 3: defense too. And so for BV in this game, he
- 2:43Speaker 3: has lost three of four games in Red River. Sark
- 2:47Speaker 3: has owned him for the most part. And three of
- 2:50Speaker 3: the four has been like blowouts. So it's been bad
- 2:54Speaker 3: for two of the three losses are blowout. So it
- 2:59Speaker 3: looks bad for BV. He needs to have a bounce
- 3:01Speaker 3: back year. Obviously, this year looks like he's very shaky
- 3:03Speaker 3: because his quarterback doesn't know how to throw the ball
- 3:06Speaker 3: very well anymore. He forgot how to play football. And
- 3:09Speaker 3: so for Sooner Nation, as well as myself, I don't,
- 3:13Speaker 3: a lot of people are really like, all right, I'm
- 3:15Speaker 3: still with BV because the defense is just nasty. I
- 3:18Speaker 3: just wish we had more of an offense like we
- 3:20Speaker 3: used to have. And of course I would like that
- 3:23Speaker 3: as well, but that ain't something that just pop up
- 3:25Speaker 3: in the SEC very often. Usually teams with really good
- 3:27Speaker 3: offenses also have really bad defenses. So the balance isn't
- 3:30Speaker 3: there like we would like, but I would like to
- 3:33Speaker 3: win more games 25 to 10 or 30 to 10
- 3:38Speaker 3: and get some points on the board. But it looks
- 3:40Speaker 3: like it's going to be just like last season where
- 3:42Speaker 3: it's going to be like 20 to 15 and 24
- 3:44Speaker 3: to nine type situations. So BV really needs to win
- 3:49Speaker 3: this game. You can't go down three times in a
- 3:52Speaker 3: row to Texas.
- 3:54Speaker 1: The Georgia game, which is certainly the toughest game that
- 3:57Speaker 1: Oklahoma has played this year.
- 3:58Speaker 2: The best offense that they've played.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I certainly don't think Texas has the same kind of offense.
- 4:03Speaker 1: They're a little clunky right now, but when you look
- 4:06Speaker 1: at what Oklahoma has done, they forced a punt. Then
- 4:10Speaker 1: they gave up an 80 yard drive. Then they gave
- 4:12Speaker 1: up a 54 yard drive, kind of a small short field, right?
- 4:15Speaker 1: Like that wasn't, that wasn't a super long field. Obviously
- 4:17Speaker 1: you had three turnovers in a row. After those three turnovers, you,
- 4:23Speaker 1: gave Georgia another short field. I'd say the defense was
- 4:27Speaker 1: responsible for a touchdown and a half, you know, maybe
- 4:30Speaker 1: a touchdown in three quarters. Cause you, you did give
- 4:32Speaker 1: Georgia a short field, but at the same time it
- 4:34Speaker 1: was 54 yards. Like they did have to cross midfield.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So the defense isn't completely off the hook there, though.
- 4:40Speaker 1: It was a short field, 14 points to Georgia in the,
- 4:43Speaker 1: in the first half. And then the second half defense
- 4:47Speaker 1: was better, gave up a total of 13 points. Now
- 4:49Speaker 1: the game was, very well decided by that point. So
- 4:52Speaker 1: I don't want to give Oklahoma like all of the
- 4:54Speaker 1: credit in the world, but you know, just to even Georgia, right.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Just to, you know, a game that was decided, but
- 5:02Speaker 1: a defense that did not break and the dam didn't
- 5:04Speaker 1: open up to where it was an onslaught any worse
- 5:06Speaker 1: than it already was.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I mean, you're talking to 28 point loss. Um, I
- 5:10Speaker 2: think the defense played well enough in that game.
- 5:13Speaker 1: If you take away the short fields, the turnovers, the
- 5:16Speaker 1: return for a touchdown, the 11 yard drive, like all
- 5:19Speaker 1: those things, you, you probably played well enough to have
- 5:22Speaker 1: the game be competitive. I do think Texas offense is
- 5:26Speaker 1: not as good as Georgia's right. They got the bi-week
- 5:28Speaker 1: just like Oklahoma did, but they still have talent. And
- 5:31Speaker 1: I would almost argue that they probably need to play
- 5:34Speaker 1: even better because they Texas's defense is better than Georgia's
- 5:38Speaker 1: in my estimation.
- 5:39Speaker 2: We'll, we'll see on that.
- 5:40Speaker 1: But I, uh, I think this is one where you're
- 5:43Speaker 1: putting a lot on the defense again and asking them
- 5:46Speaker 1: to be really, really good.
- 5:47Speaker 2: And I think that.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Wears on a defense, even a good defense like Oklahoma's
- 5:51Speaker 1: just before we go on, I will give some love
- 5:53Speaker 1: to our new top 25 poll. A lot of you
- 5:56Speaker 1: are like me and you hate the AP poll. So
- 5:58Speaker 1: I created a better one that you can log in
- 6:01Speaker 1: right now and for free go create your own top
- 6:05Speaker 1: 25 poll.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I'm setting up reminders.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'm working on aggregating national college football analysts that we
- 6:11Speaker 1: all know and love and respect, or maybe even hate
- 6:14Speaker 1: just to get theirs in there as well. It's super slick.
- 6:17Speaker 1: The user interface is really, really easy to use. You
- 6:21Speaker 1: log in one time with your Google account and you
- 6:23Speaker 1: are all set. I'm not going to spam your email.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I'm not trying to sell you anything. There's no ads
- 6:28Speaker 1: on here. If somebody would like to put an ad
- 6:30Speaker 1: on there, please let me know. But it's just a
- 6:32Speaker 1: place where we can go collectively as fans vote on
- 6:36Speaker 1: the poll, the top 25 in college football.
- 6:38Speaker 2: We're going to work on a college ball playoff one.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Once we get closer to November, but go check this out.
- 6:43Speaker 1: It's CFA top 25.com link is in the description.
- 6:47Speaker 2: I'll pin the comment. Go check it out right now.
- 6:50Speaker 3: It does. It's over time. You get exhausted of having
- 6:53Speaker 3: to bail out the opposite side of the ball. Like
- 6:54Speaker 3: you said, physically and mentally, physically and mentally. Exactly. Like
- 6:58Speaker 3: think about it. If, if John material doesn't throw the
- 7:00Speaker 3: ball backwards and they return it for a touchdown, well,
- 7:02Speaker 3: The score's 14-7. You know the defense is hyped at
- 7:05Speaker 3: that point. They're like, yeah, let's go. Let's get out there.
- 7:07Speaker 3: And then they're going to turn up the heat to
- 7:10Speaker 3: make it even more challenging for Gunnar Stockton and Mike
- 7:13Speaker 3: Bubbo to really get that offense flowing the way they
- 7:15Speaker 3: want it. Georgia wasn't running the ball like they normally
- 7:18Speaker 3: do all against Oklahoma. Gunnar had his moments of passing,
- 7:22Speaker 3: which you're going to do that. When you play a
- 7:23Speaker 3: good offense, they're going to get some plays. Last season,
- 7:27Speaker 3: Oklahoma against Texas, it was 3-3 at the half because
- 7:29Speaker 3: neither offense could get the ball going. And the big
- 7:33Speaker 3: problem that Oklahoma had was going into the third quarter.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Your quarterback has thrown three interceptions, basically took away two
- 7:39Speaker 3: touchdown opportunities in a field goal by being reckless. Well,
- 7:44Speaker 3: if you get those, you could possibly have been up
- 7:47Speaker 3: 17-3 at the half because your defense was out there
- 7:49Speaker 3: playing lights-out football. How different is that game when you're
- 7:53Speaker 3: up 17-3 rather than going in the half 3-3 and realizing, yeah, guys,
- 7:57Speaker 3: we're going to have to bail this team out for
- 7:59Speaker 3: real because your quarterback's coming back 12 days from thumb surgery?
- 8:02Speaker 3: I feel like that's similar with Georgia. So in this game,
- 8:05Speaker 3: I mean, we watched the Tennessee defense and how many
- 8:07Speaker 3: problems they gave Texas in that game. The game was 20-17.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Tennessee had a chance to win. and they couldn't close it.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Oklahoma's defense, to me, is better than Tennessee's. It's a
- 8:19Speaker 3: step up. So we're going to have to see if
- 8:21Speaker 3: Sarkeesian really dials up all the trick plays and the
- 8:24Speaker 3: misdirection to really get this defense thrown off and try
- 8:27Speaker 3: to take advantage of it. Granted. Oklahoma also has some
- 8:30Speaker 3: youth back there in the secondary. Now, they should return
- 8:33Speaker 3: a lot of the players that they've been struggling with,
- 8:36Speaker 3: like Cole Sullivan should be back this week. At linebacker,
- 8:40Speaker 3: one big piece of their linebacker room, Owen Heineke, who
- 8:43Speaker 3: came out of the Georgia game. Hopefully he's back and
- 8:45Speaker 3: ready to go. David Stone should be a lot better
- 8:49Speaker 3: this week compared to where he was against Georgia. He
- 8:51Speaker 3: was still pretty impactful, even with a hurt knee. Oklahoma,
- 8:54Speaker 3: if they can make sure that their key players are
- 8:57Speaker 3: out there playing and running around with their hair on fire,
- 9:00Speaker 3: this game is going to probably end up being a
- 9:02Speaker 3: really close 9-6 game once again.
- 9:06Speaker 1: The thing that I worry about for Oklahoma is kind
- 9:09Speaker 1: of what you just said and what I alluded to earlier.
- 9:11Speaker 1: in that Georgia game where I don't think it happened,
- 9:13Speaker 1: but I could see it happening where the defense just
- 9:17Speaker 1: gets completely worn down. We saw that in that Tennessee game.
- 9:20Speaker 1: And I will say, I think Oklahoma's defense is better
- 9:22Speaker 1: than Tennessee's. I think Tennessee's is top three or four
- 9:24Speaker 1: in the conference. Like it's really good.
- 9:26Speaker 3: It's a really good defense.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And I think they, Jim Knowles has worked wonders there already.
- 9:31Speaker 1: So I think you saw that late in that game.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Now Tennessee's offense was just pathetic. Like it was so bad.
- 9:38Speaker 1: They needed the punt return touchdown, which maybe that's good news. Like,
- 9:40Speaker 1: Maybe Sitanga can take one back and get you in
- 9:43Speaker 1: really good field position or get into the end zone
- 9:45Speaker 1: for you because Texas has been susceptible to that. But
- 9:49Speaker 1: their offense just could not do anything. Their defense kept
- 9:51Speaker 1: getting stop after stop after stop after stop. And finally,
- 9:54Speaker 1: Texas just leaned on them enough in that final drive
- 9:57Speaker 1: to run the ball down their throat.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I can see a similar.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Situation happening with Oklahoma this weekend. And the question for
- 10:03Speaker 1: me is almost not even, and I don't mean to
- 10:05Speaker 1: be so negative about it, but it's almost not even
- 10:09Speaker 1: a situation of if it happens, it's when it happens.
- 10:12Speaker 1: If the offense does not perform, it will eventually happen.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Like I, I would be like, I've watched a lot
- 10:18Speaker 1: of college football. I've seen a I would be shocked
- 10:21Speaker 1: if Oklahoma was able to go out there and hold
- 10:24Speaker 1: Texas under 10 points this weekend.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I don't care how good Texas is.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:27Speaker 1: And so it's like, can your offense give you a
- 10:29Speaker 1: 17 to give you a fighting chance? Or can your
- 10:32Speaker 1: special teams pitch in seven? Can your defense give you
- 10:35Speaker 1: a really short field to, to put the offense in
- 10:37Speaker 1: really good position to where it's almost like you can't
- 10:39Speaker 1: not score. Um, so I think that's my question is,
- 10:44Speaker 1: I think if this offense does not do anything for Oklahoma, uh,
- 10:47Speaker 1: The defense will eventually break. The question is, is that
- 10:49Speaker 1: in the second quarter? Is that in the fourth quarter?
- 10:52Speaker 1: Is the defense going to break when you're already up 10?
- 10:54Speaker 1: Because you've played so well, and then you're holding on
- 10:56Speaker 1: for dear life. There's a path to Oklahoma winning this game.
- 10:59Speaker 1: It's very narrow, in my opinion, but the offense has
- 11:02Speaker 1: to do something to help this defense out, and that's
- 11:06Speaker 1: what it comes down to.
- 11:07Speaker 2: You're putting a lot on your defense, I think, this weekend.
- 11:10Speaker 1: If the offense can just give them a little bit,
- 11:12Speaker 1: coming off the bye week, having an extra week to prepare.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Again, Texas got the same thing.
- 11:16Speaker 1: But then you set your defense up for so much
- 11:19Speaker 1: more success. If Oklahoma could go out and score on
- 11:21Speaker 1: the first two drives and be up 10-3 or 10-7
- 11:23Speaker 1: or something and just give the defense a little bit
- 11:25Speaker 1: of confidence and momentum, it could go a long way
- 11:28Speaker 1: towards making this a fourth-quarter game.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I agree with you. And that's what we
- 11:32Speaker 3: hope as Sooner fans is that Oklahoma goes out there and,
- 11:39Speaker 3: actually makes it a game making enough of a game
- 11:41Speaker 3: to where the defense doesn't fall apart before the game
- 11:44Speaker 3: ends like fourth quarter there's a possibility but like you
- 11:47Speaker 3: said if Oklahoma's up by a field goal or something
- 11:50Speaker 3: that may actually turn the heat up on this defense
- 11:52Speaker 3: to where they're more excited about the direction this game
- 11:54Speaker 3: is going and they get that second or third win
- 11:57Speaker 3: and young players can come in and they start to
- 11:59Speaker 3: compete more that is what you're hoping for you're hoping
- 12:02Speaker 3: and it's unfortunate because I mean you know being negative
- 12:05Speaker 3: you're not wrong on this is that The Sooners are
- 12:08Speaker 3: going to rely on this defense to be able to
- 12:10Speaker 3: put some points on the board for them in some capacity.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Either by creating very short fields or getting a turnover
- 12:18Speaker 3: in an area or actually scoring a touchdown. They're going
- 12:21Speaker 3: to have to rely on that. That is the desperation
- 12:23Speaker 3: that Oklahoma needs. Or special teams. Satania returning a punt
- 12:26Speaker 3: for a touchdown. Or are we punting the ball to the... Two,
- 12:30Speaker 3: and we force a safety. Things like that, they're going
- 12:33Speaker 3: to need all kinds of ridiculousness to get to this point.
- 12:36Speaker 3: You're hoping that Oklahoma will find a way to just
- 12:38Speaker 3: man up and go straight man-to-man on the field and
- 12:42Speaker 3: run the ball past the ball and play like an
- 12:43Speaker 3: actual football game. But unfortunately, they haven't shown that for
- 12:46Speaker 3: you in your two P4 games. So because of that,
- 12:49Speaker 3: you're going to have to go be more creative and
- 12:51Speaker 3: you just got to lean on that defense, which sucks.
- 12:54Speaker 3: It's not like it hasn't happened before, though. We've actually
- 12:56Speaker 3: seen this team do that. So it's not out of
- 12:58Speaker 3: the realm of possibility. We saw them do that basically
- 13:00Speaker 3: all last season. The defense won the games. We just
- 13:03Speaker 3: need to find a way for the offense to at
- 13:05Speaker 3: least try to contribute just a little bit.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Yeah, if they can and they have a lead. And
- 13:09Speaker 1: Texas has to throw the ball a little bit more.
- 13:11Speaker 1: If I'm Texas, I want to run this football. I
- 13:13Speaker 1: feel very confident in that. there's been times where arch
- 13:17Speaker 1: has been shaky. Now he's certainly been the better quarterback
- 13:20Speaker 1: coming to this matchup, but there's been times when he's
- 13:22Speaker 1: been shaky. And if you've got him playing from behind
- 13:25Speaker 1: in a second quarter in a game where they are
- 13:26Speaker 1: a 10 point favorite and he's pressing a little bit.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah. He's also shown to his credit.
- 13:32Speaker 1: He can press really hard in the fourth quarter against
- 13:34Speaker 1: Ohio state and score 20 straight points and win the game.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Like, yeah, they can do both.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Right. And so I do think that that puts Oklahoma
- 13:41Speaker 1: in a really good spot. I mentioned Texas running the ball.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Their weapons at Texas, as shaky as their offense has been,
- 13:47Speaker 1: as good as Oklahoma's defense has been, the weapons they
- 13:50Speaker 1: have on offense, from Smothers to, you know, Wingo to Coleman,
- 13:56Speaker 1: just all over. The guys are there. Tight end, they
- 13:59Speaker 1: do a good job. I think that presents an interesting...
- 14:03Speaker 1: matchup problem. And it's on Texas to execute. Like I'd say,
- 14:07Speaker 1: Georgia has a better offense than Texas, but Texas has
- 14:10Speaker 1: a more dynamic offense when it's clicking at the, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 1: all the right times, which fourth quarter against Ohio state,
- 14:16Speaker 1: it clicked other times this year.
- 14:18Speaker 2: It hasn't.
- 14:18Speaker 1: So that's what I'm, I'm, I'm interested to see how
- 14:22Speaker 1: Oklahoma does match up from a defensive perspective. Cause I
- 14:24Speaker 1: do have a lot of confidence in BV in this defense,
- 14:27Speaker 1: in the talent that's on that side of the ball.
- 14:28Speaker 1: But I also understand the, And Texas got that same
- 14:31Speaker 1: benefit of the bye week. And they got that same
- 14:33Speaker 1: benefit of two weeks to prepare here and try and
- 14:35Speaker 1: get Arch a little sharper. And they were better in
- 14:37Speaker 1: the second half last year. And they are coming off
- 14:39Speaker 1: of a win against a good Tennessee team, at least
- 14:42Speaker 1: a good Tennessee defense, on the road in Knoxville two
- 14:46Speaker 1: weeks ago. And so those are all kind of like interesting,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you know, things about this game that kind of have
- 14:51Speaker 1: my interest piqued.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Yeah, same. I'm really curious to see how– what Sarkeesian
- 14:59Speaker 3: puts together to get everything really rolling for them. Cause
- 15:04Speaker 3: you're right. Like arch has not been as impressive as
- 15:06Speaker 3: you have thunk this year. The team hasn't at all.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Like the offense. And I think that's the craziest part
- 15:11Speaker 3: about them is this is like the third or fourth
- 15:14Speaker 3: year in a row. Their defense has really carried them
- 15:16Speaker 3: as a team. And Sark is a offensive genius type, right? Like,
- 15:21Speaker 3: he's the guy that's the quarterback whisperer. It's really just
- 15:23Speaker 3: been their defense that's been really carrying a lot of
- 15:25Speaker 3: what they're doing. But again, you know, Arch got better
- 15:28Speaker 3: as the season progressed, but that was actually at the
- 15:29Speaker 3: point where they were kind of out of the running
- 15:32Speaker 3: of making the playoffs. You know, that was at the
- 15:34Speaker 3: point of three losses. So, you know, they were... but
- 15:38Speaker 3: they were building up on something. But those struggles they
- 15:40Speaker 3: had on the road against Kentucky, against Mississippi State, you're
- 15:45Speaker 3: just like, what the heck is going on? Why can't
- 15:47Speaker 3: this offense go out there and put up points? Why
- 15:49Speaker 3: can't this offense just go dominate? I mean, you've got
- 15:53Speaker 3: back-to-back number one recruits at quarterback that everyone is toting
- 15:58Speaker 3: as the number one pick in the next draft every
- 16:00Speaker 3: single year. And you're not out there putting up stuff.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Now they've got all of these weapons around them and
- 16:06Speaker 3: they're still not really having the highest success rate on
- 16:10Speaker 3: offense that you would have expected. That's the thing that
- 16:12Speaker 3: throws me off. With a guy like Sark, you would
- 16:14Speaker 3: have expected that he'd been one of the best. And
- 16:17Speaker 3: they're not. Like, it's very confusing. that his offense has
- 16:24Speaker 3: not been just churning the way that you would have
- 16:27Speaker 3: expected as good of a coach. I mean, I've watched
- 16:29Speaker 3: his play design. Fantastic dude when it comes to play design.
- 16:32Speaker 3: He's really good at that. He's really good at getting
- 16:34Speaker 3: a lot going. But, I mean, that Ohio State playoff game,
- 16:37Speaker 3: Ohio State game last year, I mean, they pulled it
- 16:39Speaker 3: off this year because Ohio State forgot how to play football,
- 16:41Speaker 3: but Ohio State was up for a while, and it
- 16:43Speaker 3: felt like they just tried to play not to lose
- 16:45Speaker 3: instead of go out there to win. When they just
- 16:48Speaker 3: let Arch go out there and play backyard football– They
- 16:51Speaker 3: got it going. The offense got it brewing. So for Oklahoma,
- 16:55Speaker 3: it's really going to be just doing like they did
- 16:57Speaker 3: last year. Contain Arch, keep him under pressure, make him
- 17:00Speaker 3: have to get rid of the ball before they really
- 17:02Speaker 3: want to, eliminate their ability to run these trick plays
- 17:04Speaker 3: that they want to and misdirections, and keep up with
- 17:07Speaker 3: their big guns. And I think Oklahoma has the ability
- 17:10Speaker 3: to do it.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Talked a lot about what worries you from the Oklahoma perspective,
- 17:14Speaker 1: but what about Texas worries you the most in this matchup?
- 17:18Speaker 1: Like if you take away the fact that Oklahoma is
- 17:21Speaker 1: struggling in a lot of areas, what is it about
- 17:23Speaker 1: them specifically? Not the rivalry, not, you know, Oklahoma side,
- 17:27Speaker 1: but what worries you in this?
- 17:29Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's really the defense, right? They have a
- 17:32Speaker 3: really strong defense and defensive line. Edge play, especially Colin Simmons.
- 17:36Speaker 3: He's going to be all over the place. He's going
- 17:37Speaker 3: to be a terrorist. Rasheem Biles is always a problem
- 17:40Speaker 3: there at linebacker. I think their front seven, to me,
- 17:42Speaker 3: is going to be the biggest problem because Oklahoma struggled
- 17:44Speaker 3: in that area. And so they struggled in just creating
- 17:47Speaker 3: run lanes and stuff that they need to create. But
- 17:50Speaker 3: I think there is opportunities for Oklahoma to do that.
- 17:53Speaker 3: There is opportunities to go run straight at them because
- 17:55Speaker 3: they are very aggressive. So they'll over-pursue. and they'll overplay
- 17:59Speaker 3: their hand in some places. Oklahoma has to take advantage
- 18:01Speaker 3: of that. But that front seven is terrifying for me
- 18:04Speaker 3: because their defense is good. Texas has a very good
- 18:07Speaker 3: defense similar to Oklahoma. They're both up there very high
- 18:10Speaker 3: in success rate. I think they're both in the 34.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Oklahoma's at 31% success rate. Texas is at 34% success
- 18:16Speaker 3: rate on defense. So both defenses are doing a great
- 18:20Speaker 3: job of forcing everybody to do things that they don't
- 18:22Speaker 3: want to do to be successful. Oklahoma's going to have
- 18:24Speaker 3: to be prepared for them to really throw the kitchen sink.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Most likely, Texas is going to have seven to eight
- 18:31Speaker 3: people in the box and say, hey, John, beat us
- 18:32Speaker 3: with your arm. We triple dog dare you no Sykes.
- 18:35Speaker 3: And that's going to be the issue because if they
- 18:37Speaker 3: triple dog dare you like that, you've got to go
- 18:40Speaker 3: after them. You cannot let a triple dog dare sit there,
- 18:43Speaker 3: especially with no Sykes. And I think that John has
- 18:46Speaker 3: to find a way to get his confidence up in
- 18:49Speaker 3: some capacity to rise to the occasion for that. Can he? Man,
- 18:53Speaker 3: I don't know. But It ain't at the realm of possibility.
- 18:57Speaker 3: We've seen him do it before. He's just got to
- 18:59Speaker 3: go out there and do it again.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Give me a score in this one, Jay. Oh, gosh.
- 19:04Speaker 3: You wouldn't make me do this. which I think is
- 19:06Speaker 3: very disrespectful of you. I feel like.
- 19:08Speaker 2: You're targeting me as a human being.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I got to give a score prediction for FSU Miami
- 19:13Speaker 1: in two weeks on about 17 different shows.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Fair, fair, fair, fair point, fair point. Touche, touche, touche.
- 19:19Speaker 3: All right. I'm going to maintain my Homer stance. I'm
- 19:22Speaker 3: going to go Oklahoma wins this game. I think I'm
- 19:25Speaker 3: going to say 17 to like 13 on like– Some
- 19:29Speaker 3: ridiculous field goal or something. I think it's going to
- 19:32Speaker 3: be a stupid low game. The over-under in this game
- 19:34Speaker 3: is like 39.5, which is hilarious.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I like the under.
- 19:37Speaker 3: It's very much accurate. Everybody's taking an under because nobody
- 19:40Speaker 3: believes in either one of these offenses, which is bananas,
- 19:43Speaker 3: but I digress. Give me Oklahoma 17-13.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I appreciate you. I will not be picking that. FSU
- 19:50Speaker 2: next week. There is no bit of Homer left in
- 19:52Speaker 2: me after Mike Norvell. You still believe in your coach
- 19:54Speaker 2: to some degree. I'm all the way out.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Jay, I appreciate you. Go check out Unfair Sports. We
