- 0:11The morning, Sean. Well, if you joined in studio by Terry Hokey,
- 0:16it's Boys and Girls Club of Dane County, Terry Winter Wonderland. People
- 0:22are thinking are they playing are they were playing something from last winter? No?
- 0:26No, no, no no. We want folks to think because in
- 0:29no time winter is going to be here, isn't it. It is going
- 0:32to be here, Sean, and sooner than you expect, despite this warmer
- 0:37weather that we've been having. And you were telling me, of course we're
- 0:40going to talk about coats for kids. In just a moment you were telling
- 0:43me, Uh, this kind of coincides directly with the Hallmark season. Yes,
- 0:47yes, a holiday movie start in October. So you know this does
- 0:53you know, kind of line up with your Christmas music there. It's fantastic
- 0:58And as we all know, it will get cold here in Wisconsin. It's
- 1:00going to be another winter is going to be really harsh for a lot of
- 1:04folks, and you know, one of the important things is keeping warm,
- 1:07and I know for a lot of people, it's something that we don't always
- 1:12think about until it's here. And this is one of those times where we
- 1:15want to think ahead, we want to plan ahead and that's where Coats for
- 1:19Kids comes into play. Let's talk a little bit about Coats for Kids,
- 1:23how the program works, and why right now is so especially important for keeping
- 1:27kids warm in the months to come. Yeah, as as you mentioned,
- 1:32Sean, the winters are harsh here and there are a lot of kids that
- 1:36do not have the means to keep warm. You know, they grow,
- 1:41and so this is a community effort with a lot of partners to collect at
- 1:46least five thousand coats for kids in Dane County. So this is not necessarily
- 1:51a Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County effort, it's a community wide effort.
- 1:55Well, it's fantastic and obviously clearing out the closet gently used, did
- 2:01I did I see? There's an Amazon wish list as well that folks want
- 2:05to just purchase online. Make it easy, peasy. Yes, there's several
- 2:08ways that you can join in this effort. And so, first of all,
- 2:13despite the warm weather, check your closets there your kids might have grown
- 2:17out of the coats, you might have coats because there's adult sized kids too,
- 2:23and so check your closets. You know you haven't had to go there
- 2:25yet, but check them and you can easily drop them off at any Clinkis
- 2:30Cleaners in Dane County and they will clean them for you. That is amazing.
- 2:34And they they're they're they're a vital partner in this, aren't they They
- 2:38are a vital partner and have been so for thirty eight years. Wow.
- 2:43Yes, yes, that is amazing. And so folks can obviously clear out
- 2:47the closet. You can drop off the coats at Clinky Cleaners, they will
- 2:53clean them. And then how do they kind of the other side distribution and
- 2:57how are they all? Yeah, like I said, there's several partners.
- 3:00So we have to thank Easy Office Products because Clinky's delivers the clean coats to
- 3:06them and they're helping us out by sorting them because it's a big, big
- 3:09operation to take in five thousand coats and then get them to the people in
- 3:15need. And shown you mentioned before, there's other ways and other than just
- 3:19checking your closet. You can go to our website bgc DC dot org and
- 3:27write on that first page you'll see coats for kids, and you can order
- 3:31through an Amazon wish list and it'll be delivered directly to us. Or you
- 3:36can even do a monetary donation of whatever is good for you, and it'll
- 3:39be going for this campaign. And Terry, you mentioned the fantastic folks involved,
- 3:45clinky cleaners, easy office products. You need everybody as well though.
- 3:49If people have an opportunity a little spare time, you guys can certainly use
- 3:52volunteers, can't you. We sure, ken And there's also a volunteer link
- 3:55there and we have volunteer opportunities night time, daytime October nineteenth through October twenty
- 4:02fifth, Grab some friends, grab your co workers. We have a lot
- 4:06of spots that we have to fill. What a fun and I know everything
- 4:10you guys do with Boys and Girls Club has always got there's a fun aspect
- 4:13to it as well. Never a boring day. There's never a boring day.
- 4:17And you're right, Seawan. When you volunteer, you're with a group
- 4:20of people, you're doing good. It makes you feel good and we have
- 4:24fun. Let's talk a little bit about the timeline for folks on again.
- 4:27Check your closet today. What's kind of the timeline for getting those donations in
- 4:31timeline is by October seventh, so soon, and and for those that need
- 4:36coats, October six is when we are going to come out with the registrations
- 4:43for the first two distribution sites, which are at the Mackenzie Family Center and
- 4:47Sun Prairie and the Erica and Anthony Fleming formerly Taft Club in Madison, and
- 4:54then a little bit later October twenty three through twenty fifth, it'll be at
- 4:58the our Allied Family Boys and Girls Club. And you know, and I
- 5:00know obviously Boys and Girls Club, you guys are involved with a lot of
- 5:03a lot of different and you join us with some of the really great programs
- 5:06and some of the great things that you guys do at Boys and Girls Club.
- 5:10I think sometimes one of the areas that people overlook is the need is
- 5:14I think sometimes because of Madison and Dane County and such a you know,
- 5:17it's a beautiful area and you know, such a just such a great area.
- 5:21Sometimes people forget that, even people that we may not it may not
- 5:26even realize there are a lot of people in need in this area, aren't
- 5:30there? There are? And this is a way that the community can come
- 5:32together and help those people. And of course the website is bgc DC dot
- 5:40org. I've got to say it every time, otherwise it's like it's like
- 5:43it's a practice for coats for kids there again, that's bgc DC dot org.
- 5:47All the donations up online, signed to volunteer for the distribution event on
- 5:51the website, as well as the drop off locations the Amazon wish list,
- 5:56and of course if you are able to do a monetary donation, there's a
- 5:59secure section and right there on the website you can do that. And it's
- 6:01such a great rewarding thing if you are able to do that. Any of
- 6:04those opportunities are just great. And you say, well, I don't have
- 6:08any codes. The volunteer opportunities a great thing for you as well, do
- 6:11you guys? You guys expect getting maybe some I know, we've got a
- 6:13lot of you know, social groups and other things. You guys expect a
- 6:16lot of a lot of those type of folks. It's not it. Maybe
- 6:18maybe some office workers getting together and saying, you know what, this maybe
- 6:21something good for us not only a rewarding thing, but kind of a bonding
- 6:26experience as well. Yeah, it's actually a great work engagement opportunity. And
- 6:30we have shared with some company partners and there's some people that historically, because
- 6:35this is Boys and Girls Club first year in being part of this, there
- 6:40so there's some organizations that historically have done this and they're coming to the plate
- 6:44again, so that's always nice to see. But there are still plenty of
- 6:47opportunities. Gets to the website bgc DC dot org Codes for Kids again accepting
- 6:54donations now through October seventh, and that's right around the corner. We're talking
- 6:57just a few days away from now, so I get those clause it's cleared
- 7:00out and again head on over the website get more information whether you're looking to
- 7:02volunteer, making a monetary donation, want to order off the wish list again,
- 7:06all that information at BGCDC dot org. It's always great seeing you,
