- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:03Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Powered by Seahawks.com. Now, here's your host, Nassau Chobie.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome to another edition of Hawk Talk. The Seahawks back
- 0:14Speaker 2: in the winning column, beating the Los Angeles Chargers by
- 0:18Speaker 2: a score of 30-23 bump. And it was an interesting game.
- 0:21Speaker 2: You know, they talk about a tail two halves. This
- 0:24Speaker 2: game was more than that. This game was a beat
- 0:27Speaker 2: down by the Seahawks.
- 0:28Speaker 1: They were dominant. They were in control.
- 0:30Speaker 2: For most of the game, they let the Chargers back
- 0:32Speaker 2: into it. You got to give credit to where credit's due.
- 0:33Speaker 2: They made some plays. But this wasn't a game you
- 0:36Speaker 2: ever felt the Seahawks was in jeopardy for them at
- 0:38Speaker 2: any point.
- 0:39Speaker 3: No, I felt good about it. There were too many
- 0:41Speaker 3: penalties out there, both sides of the ball. And we
- 0:43Speaker 3: had a 55-minute first quarter because of the way the
- 0:46Speaker 3: game was going. But the Chargers came back late, but
- 0:50Speaker 3: I still felt like the game was under control. Defense
- 0:52Speaker 3: did enough. Offense, we had some new faces getting to
- 0:55Speaker 3: the end zone, which is fun. So, yeah, way to
- 0:57Speaker 3: bounce back. Yeah, no, I mean, obviously the penalties, you
- 1:00Speaker 3: can't have that. The Seahawks, 14 penalties, 150 yards. Chargers,
- 1:03Speaker 3: 16 penalties, 130 yards.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Crazy.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Most penalty yardage in Seahawks history. So it was a
- 1:08Speaker 2: tough day out there. Obviously, there were some penalties that
- 1:11Speaker 2: you go, like Coach McDonald said, it costs to do
- 1:13Speaker 2: a business. There were some penalties that you'd hope you'd
- 1:15Speaker 2: have back. But it was, at the end of the day,
- 1:17Speaker 2: the Seahawks did make a play in all three phases
- 1:19Speaker 2: of the games that helped them win this game. You
- 1:21Speaker 2: improved to 3-1 on the season. You never apologized for wins.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Let's get right back into what happened yesterday, what had happened.
- 1:29Speaker 1: See, what had happened was... What had happened at first was...
- 1:32Speaker 1: What had happened was... On Hawk Talk.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Game started off with a bang, though. I mean, you
- 1:37Speaker 2: can't ask for anything more than that. Drake Thomas picks
- 1:40Speaker 2: off Justin Herbert on play one. A great athletic play.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Herbert thought he could sneak one in there. Interesting decision,
- 1:46Speaker 2: given the route concept. But he did a great job.
- 1:47Speaker 2: He tipped it up, made the play. And, oh, see
- 1:50Speaker 2: Oxford Business. Unfortunately, Sam Darnold was then intercepted by Tuli.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Tuli Pelota on the very next play. And... That's also
- 1:58Speaker 2: never happened, apparently, in the history of the National Football League.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Both teams throwing an interception on the first play of
- 2:02Speaker 2: the game.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I was actually standing next to my buddy. I met
- 2:06Speaker 3: him before or during the first quarter. First time there
- 2:09Speaker 3: in a while. I'll link up with him real quick.
- 2:11Speaker 3: And he said to me, he goes, that has to
- 2:13Speaker 3: be the first time that's ever happened in NFL history.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I go, no, I'm sure it's happened before. No, first
- 2:17Speaker 3: time it's ever happened in NFL history. Yeah, we witness greatness.
- 2:23Speaker 1: In a certain type of way, you know, the Chargers
- 2:25Speaker 1: take off of that.
- 2:26Speaker 2: They go, they turn that turnover into three points with
- 2:28Speaker 2: a field goal from Cameron Dicker. After a three and out,
- 2:30Speaker 2: the Seahawks were rewarded by a muff punt from Darius Davis.
- 2:34Speaker 2: That was a cover by Conor O'Toole. Great play, great hustle.
- 2:37Speaker 2: You know, everyone did their job. Michael Dixon put it
- 2:39Speaker 2: in the air. And then if you hustle to the
- 2:41Speaker 2: football and you run down and cover kicks, good things happen.
- 2:43Speaker 1: That's what happened to Conor O'Toole.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Next play for the Seahawks, Sam Darnold connected with Emmanuel
- 2:47Speaker 2: Wilson for a nice screen play. For a 22-yard touchdown,
- 2:51Speaker 2: that made the score 7-3.
- 2:52Speaker 1: We'll break that down a little bit later.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and then the next seven drives is kind of
- 2:57Speaker 3: not a lot going on. They all ended in punts.
- 2:59Speaker 3: There were 10 possessions in the first quarter alone. Ten
- 3:02Speaker 3: of those things. The Seahawks finally put together a long
- 3:05Speaker 3: drive going seven plays, 65 yards, and it would have
- 3:08Speaker 3: much needed a 28-touchdown run from Rasheed Shaheed. We love
- 3:11Speaker 3: to see it. Put him in the backfield. Big Ray
- 3:13Speaker 3: called it. Put him in the backfield. Toss outside.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Bam.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Did a thing. That made the score 13-3.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah, we've been waiting to see that all season long.
- 3:21Speaker 2: So to see that sprinkled out there and, more importantly,
- 3:24Speaker 2: put on film, we'll dive into that a little bit
- 3:26Speaker 2: depth later.
- 3:26Speaker 1: 13-3 score, like you said.
- 3:28Speaker 2: After back-to-back punts, Ernest Jones does what he did all
- 3:30Speaker 2: of last year. He had six interceptions for Seahawks last year.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Gets his first one this year, picking off Justin Herbert.
- 3:35Speaker 2: That gave the Seahawks great field position. After that, two
- 3:38Speaker 2: plays later, Emmanuel Wilson finds the end zone again from
- 3:40Speaker 2: eight yards out. Made the score 20-3 Seattle. And the
- 3:45Speaker 2: last thing before half, that was a bummer. Seahawks are
- 3:47Speaker 2: dominating the football game. gifted a field goal because time's
- 3:50Speaker 2: going to run out. Seahawks get a personal foul called
- 3:52Speaker 2: and want to have that back. Doesn't happen. Either way,
- 3:54Speaker 2: Seahawks go into the half up 20-6.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a gift, all right, after that personal foul.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Then the Hawks will come out strong to start the
- 4:02Speaker 3: second half. They go eight plays, 68 yards. Anyway, the
- 4:05Speaker 3: six-yard touchdown to Torrey Harden, his first one of the year.
- 4:08Speaker 3: That made the score 26-6. At that point, it felt
- 4:11Speaker 3: like they're going to blow these guys out. I'm feeling good.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Everything's moving. But unfortunately, it did not go that way.
- 4:16Speaker 3: The Chargers will respond to go 11 plays, 81 yards.
- 4:19Speaker 3: They ended with a Vidal, is that what you said?
- 4:22Speaker 4: Vidal, maybe. Vidal, yeah. Nine-yard touchdown. That made the score 27-13.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a little disappointing for those possessions not
- 4:30Speaker 2: to get off the field. Seahawks add a field goal,
- 4:32Speaker 2: but then this is kind of the one that was
- 4:33Speaker 2: the most disappointing in the game, in my opinion. Seahawks
- 4:36Speaker 2: give up a 16-play, 85-yard drive. That was aided by
- 4:40Speaker 2: two rough-in-the-passer penalties, a couple other ones, one from DeMarcus Lawrence,
- 4:44Speaker 2: one from Derek Hall. I can't fault DeMarcus Lawrence at all.
- 4:47Speaker 2: He's trying to make a play. In no way is
- 4:49Speaker 2: it dirty. He's stumbling.
- 4:50Speaker 1: He's in the pocket. It's unfortunate.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Derek Hall, for about, I don't know, up until however
- 4:55Speaker 2: many years ago, that's just called a football play. Unfortunately,
- 4:58Speaker 2: it is what it is. You have to try to
- 4:59Speaker 2: show an effort that you're not driving him into the ground.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It's unfortunate, but it's one of those things where you just,
- 5:05Speaker 2: you know how good the Seahawks defense is. They don't
- 5:07Speaker 2: give up 16 play drives. They get off the field.
- 5:10Speaker 2: That was unfortunate. That made the game close at 30
- 5:12Speaker 2: to 20. Yeah, and then the Hawks punted.
- 5:16Speaker 3: The Chargers made a one-score game after another field goal.
- 5:19Speaker 3: After another Seahawks punt, the Chargers got the ball back
- 5:21Speaker 3: down seven with a minute and 42 seconds left, but
- 5:25Speaker 3: the Hawks would ice the game with a strip sack
- 5:27Speaker 3: from Chenna Nwosu that was recovered by Derek Hall to
- 5:30Speaker 3: ice the game.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And, again, I'll say this, and I won't apologize for it.
- 5:36Speaker 2: You don't apologize for wins. Wins are hard in the
- 5:38Speaker 2: National Football League.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Take them.
- 5:39Speaker 2: And I think, again, when you get a good football team,
- 5:42Speaker 2: you get spoiled by good performances.
- 5:44Speaker 1: You'd won 12 in a row. You'd won a Super Bowl.
- 5:46Speaker 2: So the expectations for everyone watching a Seahawks game is
- 5:49Speaker 2: so high that when anything bad happens, it's tough, especially
- 5:52Speaker 2: when you were dominating the football game. There's disappointment because
- 5:55Speaker 2: you want to finish the way this team knows how
- 5:56Speaker 2: to finish. But you look at this game at the end,
- 5:59Speaker 2: the Chargers, after all that, they actually outgained the Seahawks
- 6:02Speaker 2: 3-0-1 to 2-86. They outrushed the Seahawks 1-47, 1-38. A
- 6:05Speaker 2: little edge in time possession, but the only stat that mattered, Bump,
- 6:08Speaker 2: was turnovers really at the end of the day. It
- 6:11Speaker 2: bit the Seahawks the week before this week. The Seahawks
- 6:13Speaker 2: win the turnover battle 4-1, and that was the big difference.
- 6:16Speaker 1: In the ballgame.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Yeah, take care of the football. We know what the
- 6:19Speaker 4: rule is.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Every analyst across the nation, if you don't know what
- 6:23Speaker 3: to say about a game, say, hey, you just got
- 6:25Speaker 3: to take care of the football.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Because that's real.
- 6:27Speaker 3: No matter what level, you take care of the football,
- 6:28Speaker 3: you got a chance to win. So, yeah, they didn't
- 6:31Speaker 3: win in dominating fashion. It felt dominant at times, though.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Correct.
- 6:34Speaker 3: You look at the score, you're like, oh, it was
- 6:36Speaker 3: a closer game. But there were moments in the game.
- 6:38Speaker 3: where you felt like, all right, this thing is over.
- 6:41Speaker 3: And Justin Herbert is sore this morning, that's for sure.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Our guy is sore, too.
- 6:44Speaker 4: He took some hits. But Justin is sore.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Oh, no, absolutely. Okay, you've obviously taken some time. You've
- 6:49Speaker 2: watched the film. What did we learn from last night?
- 6:51Speaker 3: We learned that you don't necessarily need Jason to go
- 6:54Speaker 3: for $ 1. 50 every time. You know, you got a guy
- 6:56Speaker 3: scoring the first touchdown. Emmanuel Wilson scored his first touchdown.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Torrey Horton, Rasheed Shaheed. That's what you need when Jason
- 7:02Speaker 3: isn't able to have the explosive day that we're used
- 7:05Speaker 3: to have and he did have an explosive catch with
- 7:07Speaker 3: a 28 yard i believe on 30 16 or 15
- 7:10Speaker 3: yeah um still had five or seven for 76 yards
- 7:12Speaker 3: but this is a team other guys can step up
- 7:15Speaker 3: and fill a void.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yeah absolutely i love i echo that 110 i learned
- 7:20Speaker 2: i shouldn't say i learned this but i continue to
- 7:22Speaker 2: confirm how good byard murphy is yeah we talked about
- 7:25Speaker 2: in the post game show he is going to be
- 7:27Speaker 2: an all-pro player at some point just watch that sack
- 7:30Speaker 2: and that's just The sack is great because that's a
- 7:31Speaker 2: splash play. Watch him on all the run plays. There's
- 7:34Speaker 2: a reason the Seahawks have not allowed a 100-yard rusher
- 7:37Speaker 2: in 30 games because of plays like from Byron Murphy.
- 7:40Speaker 2: And then again, for me, when it's push come to
- 7:42Speaker 2: shove and it's winning time, they talk about living in
- 7:45Speaker 2: the death zone and all that. Yeah, that was apparent
- 7:47Speaker 2: on Sunday when they had to have it back on
- 7:49Speaker 2: the field.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I think J.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Reid got everyone together, gave an impassioned speech, probably firing
- 7:54Speaker 2: people up. I don't want J.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Reid.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yelling at me or upset with me. Got the boys
- 7:59Speaker 2: together and boom, right off the bat, boom, strip sack.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Seahawks win the game. And again, three and one, you'll
- 8:04Speaker 2: take it. Heading into a big matchup this week against
- 8:06Speaker 2: San Francisco. But there were so many people making plays
- 8:09Speaker 2: on Sunday.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Playmakers.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Touchdown Seahawks!
- 8:15Speaker 1: Playmakers. Show them what time it is! Holy caffeine!
- 8:21Speaker 2: We'll start on offense. It wasn't the best day in
- 8:23Speaker 2: terms of stats rise, right? Sam Darnold, 13-22, 168, two touchdowns,
- 8:27Speaker 2: the one interception, QB rating of 94.5. He did enough
- 8:31Speaker 2: to put the Seahawks in position to win and get
- 8:33Speaker 2: into that dominating fashion. You don't want the interception on
- 8:36Speaker 2: the first play of the game. You know, he talked
- 8:37Speaker 2: about a postgame, obviously, one you want to have back.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Didn't expect his check down to be covered.
- 8:41Speaker 1: The way it was. Great play by Tuli Peloto.
- 8:44Speaker 2: But overall, I thought Sam did a good job and
- 8:47Speaker 2: kept the Seahawks in a good place there. And we
- 8:49Speaker 2: mentioned Jackson Smith and Jigba. I'll let you get to
- 8:51Speaker 2: all the other big playmakers. But JSN, if five receptions
- 8:54Speaker 2: for 76 yards is just like a quiet, like, man,
- 8:57Speaker 2: you know, he didn't go off. He didn't do his thing.
- 9:00Speaker 2: But if you did that for an entire season, you'd
- 9:02Speaker 2: have almost 1,300 yards. You'd almost break the previous Seahawks
- 9:06Speaker 2: single-season receiving record if you averaged 76 yards a game.
- 9:09Speaker 4: That's crazy. I didn't even look at it like that.
- 9:11Speaker 2: So that just goes to show where JSN is at
- 9:14Speaker 2: this moment. So anyway, and you mentioned that was a
- 9:16Speaker 2: huge play because, The Seahawks turned that drive into points.
- 9:19Speaker 2: They were kind of struggling offensively. Third and 15 is
- 9:21Speaker 2: supposed to not be anything.
- 9:22Speaker 1: You're punting.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Third and 15, you're punting the football. I think the
- 9:25Speaker 2: caption on NFL was third and Jason, and he made
- 9:28Speaker 2: the play and kept the drive alive and Seahawks scored
- 9:30Speaker 2: on it.
- 9:30Speaker 4: That's what he does, man.
- 9:31Speaker 1: All right.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Emmanuel Wilson had himself a good day. 21 carries for
- 9:34Speaker 3: 81 yards and one touchdown. He also had three receptions
- 9:37Speaker 3: for 39 and a touchdown. Rasheed Shaheed got his first
- 9:41Speaker 3: score at the running back spot, but we will take
- 9:44Speaker 3: that at two for 33 and one touchdown. Also, Had
- 9:47Speaker 3: a big reception and a little crosser going across the
- 9:50Speaker 3: field for 20 yards as well.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Yeah, no, again, Shahid right on cue. It's almost like
- 9:56Speaker 2: you could feel it. The second he got in the
- 9:58Speaker 2: end zone, I was so happy for that dude.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Just giving all the fun.
- 10:00Speaker 2: He's gotten recently then ernest jones he's a leader on
- 10:02Speaker 2: this football team always has been since he stepped foot
- 10:04Speaker 2: in seattle that's immediately when this defense change under coach
- 10:07Speaker 2: mcdonald continues to put up numbers 12 tackles one tfl
- 10:11Speaker 2: one sack one qb one pass event and one interception
- 10:13Speaker 2: ernest jones all over the field making plays.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Yeah it's fun watching ernest man he got a gift
- 10:19Speaker 3: That interception, I don't know what Justin Herbert was looking at.
- 10:22Speaker 3: He was looking at the dig behind him, but Ernest
- 10:24Speaker 3: was in the right spot. But you do your job,
- 10:26Speaker 3: you will get rewarded. Nicky Manwari had a day as well.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Nine tackles, two TFLs, one sack, one pass, two quarterback hits,
- 10:33Speaker 3: and he lined up all over the field. He was
- 10:35Speaker 3: at the edge from a four-point. You see him on
- 10:38Speaker 3: the second level. One of, if not the most versatile
- 10:42Speaker 3: player in the NFL. And I feel like as the
- 10:44Speaker 3: season progresses, he's going to get even more healthier. even
- 10:47Speaker 3: more confident, he's going to keep making plays.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yeah, when you see someone like that, a safety lineup
- 10:52Speaker 2: in a sprinter stance, like he's Nick Bosa or something
- 10:54Speaker 2: like that, and then went up against Joe Ault and
- 10:58Speaker 2: almost won the rep, almost got to the quarterback, the
- 11:00Speaker 2: next time he kind of got launched, got pushed behind the.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Quarterback, kind of got launched airborne for a little bit.
- 11:04Speaker 1: You learn.
- 11:05Speaker 4: You live and learn.
- 11:05Speaker 2: But listen, Nick, even though he's just so fun to watch,
- 11:09Speaker 2: and you're right, he has to be the most versatile
- 11:11Speaker 2: player in football. I don't know another person that can
- 11:13Speaker 2: line up against an actual offensive lineman and just No,
- 11:17Speaker 2: nothing crazy.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I'm rushing, and you know that I'm rushing.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And to not get immediately pancaked or pushed off the ball,
- 11:22Speaker 2: Nick's a special dude for sure. Then we'll cap it
- 11:25Speaker 2: with Chen and Uosu. All he's done is make plays.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Another guy since he came to Seattle in 22. Three tackles,
- 11:30Speaker 2: one TFL, one sack, one forced home, three QB hits
- 11:33Speaker 2: against his former team. When it's come winning time, he
- 11:35Speaker 2: makes a play at the end of the day. Love
- 11:37Speaker 2: what Chen is doing, as always. Bump, a little bit
- 11:40Speaker 2: different receiver roundup this week.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it is. We got.
- 11:43Speaker 3: A lot of guys with one reception. Only 13 receptions overall.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Jason had five of them for 76 yards. Emmanuel Wilson,
- 11:50Speaker 3: second leading receiver on this team, had running back three
- 11:52Speaker 3: for 39. Rashisha Heath had one big one for 20.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Cooper Cupp had one for 13. AJ had one for 12.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Horton had one for six and a touchdown. And George
- 12:00Speaker 3: Helani won for a couple of yards. Yeah, now, the
- 12:03Speaker 3: numbers aren't as inflated as they have been this year.
- 12:06Speaker 4: But you know what? You still put up 30 points.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Still got the W.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you still like it when you rush
- 12:11Speaker 2: for over 100 yards, so. Definitely splitting the wealth there.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Let's flip it over to the plays of the game.
- 12:16Speaker 2: This first one, Emmanuel Wilson finds the end zone on
- 12:20Speaker 2: 23-yard touchdown with a screen from Sam Darnold.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Sam looks to swing the pass out.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Now he dumps the screen pass over to the right side.
- 12:26Speaker 4: It's Wilson. He's inside the 15, down to the 10, down.
- 12:28Speaker 1: To the 5.
- 12:29Speaker 4: He is in.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Touchdown, Seahawks. That is Seahawks football, baby.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Take advantage of the turnover.
- 12:40Speaker 5: And number 23, Wilson, takes it 23 yards to the house.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Yeah, two receivers in a stacked position and a tight
- 12:48Speaker 3: end to the right side. I like the little orbit motion.
- 12:51Speaker 3: You see Rasheed Shaheed behind the quarterback. Just getting the
- 12:55Speaker 3: attention of the defense, right? Get your eyes on Deuce Deuce.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Let's see what we do. Now, Sam gets into his drawback.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Defensive lineman. If it's too good to be true, it
- 13:03Speaker 3: probably is. Off is the lineman. You pass pro.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Boom.
- 13:07Speaker 4: You let him go.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Clearly setting up a nice little screen. You got a
- 13:11Speaker 3: little play action by Emmanuel Wilson. Then he falls off
- 13:13Speaker 3: to the flap. You got three bigs in front of you,
- 13:16Speaker 3: ready to go. Bodies on bodies hitting the floor. And also,
- 13:19Speaker 3: you got your wide receivers down the field blocking as well.
- 13:22Speaker 3: The rest is just Emmanuel, man. You got bodies on
- 13:24Speaker 3: bodies with the bigs. DBs don't want to touch the bigs.
- 13:26Speaker 3: And then you have your wide out out there blocking.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Beautiful screen. This screen and the A.J. Barner screen has
- 13:33Speaker 3: broken the curse. This team can run screens. But, yeah,
- 13:38Speaker 3: I like this, man. Wasted no time after a turnover, too.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and again, for people who have been Seahawks fans
- 13:44Speaker 2: for a long time, there was a long gap in
- 13:47Speaker 2: there where we could not run screens.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I don't know what it was. Different coordinators and people
- 13:51Speaker 1: calling plays.
- 13:52Speaker 2: You started to see a little bit of Kubiak last year,
- 13:54Speaker 2: and just to see it again, and it's just such
- 13:56Speaker 2: a weapon for this offense when you can run a
- 13:58Speaker 2: screen and take Pressure off if you're getting a lot
- 14:00Speaker 2: of heat from the defensive line. Sundell, Zabel, Haynes all
- 14:03Speaker 2: get out front, get great blocks in the play. Haynes
- 14:06Speaker 2: gets his guy. Sundell hooks his guy. Cupps blocking down
- 14:09Speaker 2: the field. And then Wilson, you mentioned it. Once he
- 14:12Speaker 2: gets in there, the lanes, he's patient and then gets downhill.
- 14:15Speaker 2: And then you're right. The rest is on him. Cupp
- 14:16Speaker 2: does as much as he can, but then Wilson finishes
- 14:19Speaker 2: at the end of the play. That's just winning football.
- 14:21Speaker 2: That's a winning football play. And then for the Chargers.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Not great effort on the back end.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Nah.
- 14:27Speaker 1: The corner looked like it was swoosh tempo there at
- 14:29Speaker 1: the end.
- 14:29Speaker 3: And the way Emmanuel finished that, he wasn't trying to
- 14:32Speaker 3: run around nobody. I'm running through you. This is what
- 14:35Speaker 3: I do. But, yes, you're right. Someone's going to have
- 14:38Speaker 3: a negative on that play for the Chargers. That's going
- 14:39Speaker 3: to be a minus for the finish there. But Rabel
- 14:42Speaker 3: said it best. That's Seahawk football. You saw it getting
- 14:44Speaker 3: into the end zone.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Another play that is really indicative of Seahawk football is
- 14:48Speaker 2: Rasheed Jaheed getting in the end zone.
- 14:50Speaker 1: 28-yard touchdown run.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Rashid Shaheed in the backfield. He gets the toss, goes
- 14:54Speaker 4: left side, cuts back in.
- 14:55Speaker 5: He's got some running room down the far side. 10, 5,
- 14:58Speaker 5: touchdown Seahawks!
- 15:04Speaker 1: A 27-yarder.
- 15:05Speaker 5: And for all you folks out there who've been wondering, well,
- 15:08Speaker 5: where is Rashid Shaheed?
- 15:09Speaker 1: How come we don't get him the ball more?
- 15:11Speaker 5: He has made play after play today.
- 15:13Speaker 4: We haven't even reached halftime.
- 15:16Speaker 3: All right, man, you got a little heavy formation, a
- 15:18Speaker 3: little bunch formation to the left side. You got Shahid
- 15:20Speaker 3: in the backfield. Sam Donald is under center. Everything is
- 15:23Speaker 3: just going to stretch left, all right? You got receivers
- 15:26Speaker 3: that are in the bunch. They're blocking down, trying to
- 15:27Speaker 3: get bodies on those linebackers. Then you have your tackle
- 15:30Speaker 3: who's getting wide. He kicks out the end. Then you
- 15:33Speaker 3: have your, I believe it's the tight end that gets
- 15:35Speaker 3: to the corner.
- 15:36Speaker 4: It's just beautifully blocked, man.
- 15:37Speaker 3: There's always going to be someone that you have to
- 15:39Speaker 3: make miss, and it's usually on that third level. But
- 15:41Speaker 3: once you get wide and you set up your blocks
- 15:43Speaker 3: like this, it's a beautiful thing, man. Rasheed Shahid catches
- 15:45Speaker 3: the toss, gets outside. cuts up inside the block of
- 15:48Speaker 3: the tackle, and now he's just following numbers. You follow numbers.
- 15:51Speaker 3: You follow daylight. You're the fastest man on the field.
- 15:55Speaker 3: It sure did look like it on that play.
- 15:56Speaker 1: No, it was great.
- 15:57Speaker 2: You had Cross as a great block right now at
- 15:59Speaker 2: that point of attack. Cup has a great block, sealing him,
- 16:02Speaker 2: getting through there. And then my favorite play, well, actually,
- 16:05Speaker 2: back up. Before I get to my favorite part of
- 16:06Speaker 2: the play, you have Sundell chasing down a safety. He
- 16:10Speaker 2: gets the safety on the play side. And then the
- 16:11Speaker 2: winning play here is JSN. He is on the opposite
- 16:15Speaker 2: side of the field. And, you know, essentially the equivalent
- 16:19Speaker 2: of a savior angle on defense gets across the field
- 16:22Speaker 2: and gets in the play and makes the winning block
- 16:24Speaker 2: for a touchdown. You want to talk about a guy
- 16:26Speaker 2: who's the reigning offensive player of the year. The best
- 16:29Speaker 2: receiver in football is putting up stupid numbers. Some guys
- 16:32Speaker 2: will take that play off. But that's a great run
- 16:34Speaker 2: by Shahid. I'll get ready for the next play. No,
- 16:36Speaker 2: Jason buses.
- 16:37Speaker 1: You know what?
- 16:38Speaker 2: Down there gets a touchdown block right there. And, again,
- 16:42Speaker 2: winning football.
- 16:42Speaker 4: I love how excited Jason was for Rashid Shaheed, too.
- 16:45Speaker 3: These guys know, right? Everybody's talking. Shaheed hasn't scored a
- 16:49Speaker 3: touchdown yet. Jason blocking his you-know-what off and then celebrating
- 16:53Speaker 3: with his boy.
- 16:54Speaker 4: I love to see that. It was genuine joy. Yes,
- 16:56Speaker 4: let's all eat.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and I love it, too, because Jason, as you
- 16:59Speaker 2: talked about, he takes pride in his run blocking, that
- 17:01Speaker 2: he's a complete football player.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And you're right.
- 17:03Speaker 2: All these guys are in it for each other. They
- 17:05Speaker 2: want each other to eat and win, and they absolutely
- 17:08Speaker 2: did that. Seahawks got the job done beating the Chargers.
- 17:11Speaker 2: And we're finally back to the formation we're normally in,
- 17:13Speaker 2: victory formation.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Here comes the Seahawks offense onto the field and the
- 17:18Speaker 5: Vikings defense trudging out there, knowing that one kneel down
- 17:24Speaker 5: and the Seahawks are going to wind the clock down.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And win this one. It's the victory formation on Hawk Talk.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Seahawks beat the Chargers 30-23, dominating most of this football game.
- 17:35Speaker 2: It never felt like the game was in jeopardy. We're
- 17:37Speaker 2: up 26-7 at one point. They let them hang around,
- 17:40Speaker 2: but they got the job done in the end. Yeah,
- 17:42Speaker 2: last week, the Hawks turned the ball over. They lose
- 17:44Speaker 2: the ball game. This week, they cause turnovers. They win
- 17:47Speaker 2: the ball game.
- 17:48Speaker 3: They won the turnover battle 4-1, and they're without Jadarian Price.
- 17:52Speaker 3: But the first full game in Jason didn't go crazy,
- 17:55Speaker 3: so other people had to step up.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Emmanuel Wilson had 120 total yards, two touchdowns.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Shahid.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Had explosive 28-yard touchdown and a big cash in. Horton
- 18:03Speaker 3: scoring his first session of the year as well.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I love what we saw from Torrey on that
- 18:06Speaker 2: because if you're defensively, you're probably like, okay, super heavy formation.
- 18:10Speaker 1: You're off. They're not throwing.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Three tight ends in that thing. Yeah.
- 18:13Speaker 2: They're going to run this thing. He does a nice
- 18:14Speaker 2: little slant, so good to see Torrey getting action there.
- 18:17Speaker 2: And defensively, you're led by Ernest Jones, balled out 12 tackles,
- 18:20Speaker 2: one sack, one TFL, one interception. Nicky Minori, the human
- 18:24Speaker 2: Swiss Army knife, did his best game of the year,
- 18:27Speaker 2: nine tackles, two TFLs, one sack, two QB hits. Coach
- 18:30Speaker 2: McDonald essentially said, okay, we're getting Nicky Minori now. There's
- 18:33Speaker 2: no more shot clock. There's no more watching his reps.
- 18:35Speaker 2: He's going to be out there most of the play,
- 18:36Speaker 2: so good to see that. And then Drake Thomas, DeMarcus Lawrence,
- 18:39Speaker 2: Chetan Owusu all making big plays.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Yeah. You just got to fix the penalties, right? No penalties.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Get off the field.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Take care of the ball, as every analyst says across
- 18:50Speaker 3: the country. And it should be set up for a showdown, man.
- 18:54Speaker 3: It's going down. Niners 4-0. You're 3-1. Who's going to
- 18:57Speaker 3: be the best team in the division? I'm looking forward
- 18:59Speaker 3: to this next one.
- 19:00Speaker 2: No, it's going to be great. America's Game of the Week.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Niners coming back to Lumen Field. We know what happened
- 19:03Speaker 2: last time. Me and Bumper are going to get you
- 19:06Speaker 2: everything you need to know ahead of that matchup because
- 19:08Speaker 2: it's going to be a big one. Biggest game in
- 19:09Speaker 2: the NFL going down next week. But it's good to see.
- 19:12Speaker 2: One quick thing we didn't mention. It looks like Leonard
- 19:14Speaker 2: Williams is doing well, so we hope that continues and
- 19:17Speaker 2: he'll be back out there. They avoided serious injury on
- 19:20Speaker 2: that because he's a guy that's really important for this
- 19:21Speaker 2: team as well. He's Michael Bumpus. I'm Nassif Chobi. This
- 19:24Speaker 2: has been Hawk Talk. We're going to get you ready
- 19:26Speaker 2: for that Niners matchup. Coming up on Thursday. Until next time,
- 19:30Speaker 2: this has been Hawk Talk.
