- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. Every weekday morning at this time we stop
- 0:09Speaker 1: to take some time with God.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I love spending time with God because I'm building a
- 0:16Speaker 1: relationship with Him and I hope you are too. If
- 0:20Speaker 1: God is not a part of your life, if you
- 0:22Speaker 1: keep distant from God.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I just want to encourage you to begin building a
- 0:29Speaker 1: relationship with God. All this week we're talking about disciple making.
- 0:35Speaker 1: That seems like an odd term. We don't use that
- 0:38Speaker 1: word every day, do we? But Jesus said, as he
- 0:42Speaker 1: finished his time with his followers, Make disciples of all
- 0:47Speaker 1: the nations.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And so we have to ask ourselves, well, what does
- 0:51Speaker 1: this mean and how can I get involved in disciple making?
- 0:56Speaker 1: It's not just something for pastors or ministers to do.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Disciple making is something that we are called to.
- 1:04Speaker 1: So how do you get involved? Well, we saw on
- 1:07Speaker 1: Monday the first step is to become a disciple. That
- 1:10Speaker 1: means become a follower of Jesus. And if Jesus is
- 1:13Speaker 1: not a part of your life, all it takes to
- 1:16Speaker 1: begin that relationship with Him that really changes your life
- 1:20Speaker 1: in such a beautiful way. My own life was saved
- 1:24Speaker 1: from darkness by my relationship with Jesus, and all it
- 1:29Speaker 1: takes is to come to God and say, God.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I keep messing up. I know I'm offending you in
- 1:35Speaker 1: so many ways in my life, and I want to
- 1:39Speaker 1: have a good relationship with you. I know I don't
- 1:42Speaker 1: have the right to that, but thank you that you
- 1:45Speaker 1: have done what I couldn't do in making a good
- 1:48Speaker 1: relationship with you when Jesus came into our world and
- 1:52Speaker 1: died on the cross in my place to open the
- 1:56Speaker 1: door for me to have a relationship with you.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I receive your forgiveness, and I want to start that
- 2:02Speaker 1: new way of life. I desperately need you. That's how
- 2:05Speaker 1: you start a relationship with God. That's how you become
- 2:09Speaker 1: a follower of Jesus. The next step we saw on
- 2:13Speaker 1: Tuesday is to develop the practises of a disciple, because
- 2:19Speaker 1: being a follower of Jesus doesn't just mean slapping the
- 2:22Speaker 1: name Christian onto your life and
- 2:25Speaker 1: Uh, to start sitting in church on Sundays, it means
- 2:30Speaker 1: you develop the practises of a follower of Jesus. Of course,
- 2:35Speaker 1: one of those practises is gathering with other Christians, and
- 2:39Speaker 1: you will most likely do that in church on a Sunday,
- 2:43Speaker 1: but
- 2:44Speaker 1: That is just a little part of developing the lifestyle
- 2:49Speaker 1: of a follower of Jesus. Learn to pray a lot.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Praying is just talking to God. Learn to open your
- 2:57Speaker 1: Bible every day. Learn to build intentional relationships with the
- 3:01Speaker 1: people around you to help them journey towards God as well.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And as we saw yesterday, the next step is to
- 3:09Speaker 1: learn how to help other people in your life find Jesus.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Become a disciple maker. A disciple is just a follower
- 3:19Speaker 1: of Jesus. A disciple maker is someone who helps other
- 3:23Speaker 1: people become followers of Jesus as well. And this is
- 3:27Speaker 1: what Jesus worked with His disciples. He said, Follow me,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and I will make you fishers of men.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I'll help you help other people find me.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And today we want to see the next step in
- 3:42Speaker 1: disciple making, and that is this when you help other
- 3:46Speaker 1: people start following Jesus.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Then you want to take them on the same journey
- 3:51Speaker 1: you've been on. You want to help them develop the
- 3:56Speaker 1: practises of a disciple in their own lives. You want
- 3:59Speaker 1: to help them learn to pray. You want to help
- 4:02Speaker 1: them learn to spend time with God in the Bible
- 4:06Speaker 1: every day, listening to Him, responding to Him. You want
- 4:10Speaker 1: to help them lead others to Jesus.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Just as you learned to help other people find Jesus,
- 4:20Speaker 1: when we see Jesus dies and returns to be with
- 4:25Speaker 1: the Father in heaven and His followers start putting into
- 4:29Speaker 1: practise this disciple making, we see the next generation of
- 4:33Speaker 1: disciple makers, and the apostle Paul starts travelling around the world,
- 4:37Speaker 1: introducing many people to Jesus, and he starts teaching those
- 4:41Speaker 1: people to do the same with others.
- 4:44Speaker 1: He writes to one of his disciples, the guys he's
- 4:49Speaker 1: mentored in following Jesus, and he says to them in
- 4:53Speaker 1: 2 Timothy chapter 2, he says, What you have heard
- 4:57Speaker 1: from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to
- 5:01Speaker 1: faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
- 5:05Speaker 1: So Paul received from Jesus. He passed it on to Timothy,
- 5:10Speaker 1: who passed it on to faithful men, who passed it
- 5:13Speaker 1: on to others also. You see, the generations that are
- 5:16Speaker 1: happening here. This is Jesus' plan for you also with
- 5:21Speaker 1: the people in your life. I'm John North.
