- 2:29and Ryan, we went up a couple of state senators, not one,
- 2:30but two state senators on the show to day, Vince Deeds and Rupee Phillips,
- 2:36And the two of these guys are pretty serious about this. And in
- 2:40the wake of the killing of the state trooper a Mingo County a couple of
- 2:45weeks ago, Senator Phillip specifically, and he's brought this up well before this
- 2:50particular event, is advocating for capital punishment for anyone who would take the life
- 2:55of any first responder, be it a law enforcement or EMT or firefighter whatever.
- 3:01We're gonna talk to both of those senators about that coming up a little
- 3:04bit later on, plus one of the Trump indictment. Some big happenings,
- 3:07and this is actually just kind of broken the last twelve to twenty four hours
- 3:10as it pertains to the state school board in West Virginia, particularly the state
- 3:15Superintendent of Schools. We're gonna get into that a little bit later on,
- 3:19plus your calls and text or welcome, but I want to welcome and now
- 3:22Doug Suvaleti of the West virg Universual Academy. Doug, good morning, How
- 3:23are you, sir? I'm doing very well. Thanks, Dave. Had
- 3:27a lot to get to before I got to you, but I'm gonna give
- 3:29you time. Man, you're all good. Good. Let's talk about First
- 3:31of all, give us your title again, and you're with the Western Universual
- 3:34Academy. Give us your time. You've been on the show. We figured
- 3:36if this is your third time you've been on, give us your title again.
- 3:38Correct, I'm the executive director for this. You're the big guy.
- 3:42Suppose so supposedly the big guy. Let's talk about in the latest developments with
- 3:46the Virtual Academy, just what's going on. To get some exciting news,
- 3:51we do to start with the big news we about two weeks ago, we
- 3:54signed an MU with Pierre Pont Community and Technical College, which is pretty awesome
- 4:00because they're going to be able to expand their network beyond just their their regular
- 4:03service region and they will have access to our students, which are located in
- 4:09all fifty five counties. And essentially what that does is it opens the door
- 4:13for students across the state to have access to collegiate level classes where they can
- 4:19begin taking dual credit classes and start earning college credit towards an associate's degree.
- 4:26And I'm sure, am sure a lot of work had to go into that
- 4:29and to make that the sort of thing happen, because that's that's actually a
- 4:31very growing college campus up there. Well you know, in general, I
- 4:35mean the college itself is growing great. I've had people from the college on
- 4:39the show before. That's a great partnership for you guys. It's fantastic.
- 4:43Hats off to doctor Jony Gray, she is leading up the one Walk to
- 4:46Degree program, and thanks to doctor Nelson for allowing this partnership to take place.
- 4:54So I think the excitement is on both sides. I think there is
- 4:59equally excited to partner with us as we were with them. What else is
- 5:01going on? I mean, you guys have had just one big announcement after
- 5:03another. You blow me up with your press releases, and that's all good
- 5:06stuff. I'm happy about that. The other big thing, and this was
- 5:11just yesterday. I don't know if you saw any coverage of the Golden Horseshoe.
- 5:15Actually we have coverage on the website WV metro news dot com about it.
- 5:17Yeah, fantastic. Well, I'm very proud. They grouped the charter
- 5:23schools together and they selected three winners, and we had two of the winners
- 5:29for the Golden Horseshoe. Oh that's good stuff. Yeah, it's fantastic.
- 5:32It's the it's the first virtual winners in the Golden Horseshoe existence, because there's
- 5:39never been a virtual school. So we have two winners from our school that
- 5:44represented the first virtual winners in the state. And that's that's definitely groundbreaking.
- 5:48I mean, that's groundbreaking not only for West Virginia, but for similar programs
- 5:54throughout the country because just about every state has something similar to a Golden Horsehoe.
- 5:57It's not called that, but I mean to have that come from a
- 6:00virtual school, that's that's pretty cool. Yes. Now, just to remind
- 6:03you, we did have to bring the kids in two tests because there isn't
- 6:08a true virtual option for scoring purpose. Now I get that, um,
- 6:11but kids do leave the house by the way we want to. People think
- 6:14that people walcked away. They actually get out, you know, and things
- 6:15of that nature. They do absolutely. Well, that's that's really good.
- 6:19I remember back, going back one hundred years ago when I when I was
- 6:24in eighth grade and what a big deal the Golden Horseshoe was. And as
- 6:28I said, there are programs similar similar to this in other states, and
- 6:31I would think that's going to get virtual schools across the country and give them
- 6:34a little kick in the back side to say, hey, we need to
- 6:36do this in our states. Well, I think they're they're doing it.
- 6:40I just think we get to have the lucky statement saying, well, we
- 6:45had two winners and obviously we're very competitive, so next year we're shooting for
- 6:48all three. Well, I mean that's the goals. That's and I understand
- 6:53that there's another partnership that you guys are working. Guys have something going on
- 6:57in Putnam County. Well, so K twelve is the company that we're partnered
- 7:01with they have lots of lots of options for families and just I mean,
- 7:06if anyone's interested, Learning Solutions provides a lot of completely asynchronous work they can
- 7:12do you know, piecemeal classes and in the company as a whole actually has
- 7:16partnerships with Upster County, Berkeley County, Putnam County, They've got something going
- 7:21on in Jackson County. So again, we have access to a whole wealth
- 7:26of resources even outside of just West Virginia Virtual Academy, because we're connected with
- 7:31such a nationwide company. Why are these virtual academies becoming so popular across America
- 7:36right now? Especially let's just focus on West Virginia. Why are why are
- 7:40they so popular here now? In your opinion, I think there's a need.
- 7:43I think there are students across the state who have been asking for some
- 7:48sort of virtual option for whatever the reason is, I don't know. I
- 7:53mean, it could be health issues, it could be they're more interested and
- 7:57pursuing that that post secondary education that they can get through us. Whatever it
- 8:03may be, we're seeing an increase in enrollment and interest and it's just needed.
- 8:07It's needed in West Virginia and in every state. Somebody a parent is
- 8:11listening right now, our parent or grandparent or somebody and they say, you
- 8:15know, I'm interested in and learning more about this program, possibly getting my
- 8:18child and my family member signed up for this exactly to take us to the
- 8:22process. What is the process, like, Doug, I think it just
- 8:26depends on where you want to start. We're obviously very personable. You can
- 8:30call the office. It's three zero four eight zero seven nine three seven zero.
- 8:35We're happy to talk to you. There is an application process and they
- 8:39can link to it at WFVVA dot K twelve dot com. They can find
- 8:43us on our all the handles at wv Virtual Academy, Facebook, YouTube,
- 8:48Instagram and essentially there. It's just paperwork. It's just like if you wanted
- 8:52to enroll your kid coming from out of state, you go to the board
- 8:56office. Well, we act as the office. You provide US immunization records
- 9:03address, and we go through the process and we get you enrolled. It's
- 9:07all of the same or at least a lot of the same things that you
- 9:11what as you said, I if your school, if your kid is transferring
- 9:13to a different school, your kids coming in from bund the state. It's
- 9:16it's not that dissimilar. I mean, it's it's very similar. It is.
- 9:20We're a public school. The big thing that I think separates us,
- 9:22though, is people choose to come to us, and we don't take that
- 9:26fact lightly. We view our families as customers and so we're constantly looking at
- 9:33providing them customer service, which changes the way that you develop lessons. That
- 9:39changes the way that you interact with learning coaches and students because they don't have
- 9:43to come to us, that they've made a choice, and so we treat
- 9:48them differently. And I think that shows with the amount of students that have
- 9:50chosen to come back to us next year. About eighty five percent of our
- 9:54current kids have said I definitely want to come back. So you got the
- 9:58go Horseshoe or you got a couple of kids in the Golden Horseshoe. What
- 10:03other things would you like to look at for the future? I mean,
- 10:05and as far as your kids, your students go, anything else on the
- 10:09radar, Well, we'd love to figure out how to feed kids, you
- 10:13know, as a virtual school. That's definitely something that we need to figure
- 10:18out because we have lots of hungry kids throughout the state. We're adding eleventh
- 10:22graders next year. If you'll remember, we're only K through ten, So
- 10:24next year we're gonna have to figure out how to administer you know, the
- 10:28SAT to kids, and so that's something that we don't have any experience with,
- 10:33and just just overall figuring out what families need and start tailoring even more
- 10:39to the local communities meeting their needs. We're talking with Doug si Valetti with
- 10:43the Western Univirtual Academy. Okay, so what's the biggest misconception? As I
- 10:48said, this has been the third time that you've been on the show,
- 10:50and I know that you're out at about you and your folks throughout the communities
- 10:54and talking. What's the biggest misconception people have about virtual schools? Well,
- 10:58I think the tooth thing is we're often compared to homeschool, and I try
- 11:03to correct them and say, this is school at home that they are still
- 11:07required to attend classes, so it is a little bit different than just a
- 11:11traditional homeschool. The other thing is people will in conversations not understand that we
- 11:18are a public school, and I try to make sure that I really emphasize
- 11:22that because by stating that, I'm essentially saying we have the same regulations that
- 11:30we have to follow. I just submitted yesterday all of our state Department of
- 11:35Ed end of your reports, we have end of your enrollment, we have
- 11:39end of your Special education reports. We have to do all of them.
- 11:41Same thing. We have to test kids for the Golden Horseshoe. So as
- 11:45a public school, we're bound by the same requirements. And so those are
- 11:50probably the two biggest misconceptions we have. Numbers are we looking at in West
- 11:52Virginia now for your students for your enrollment? Well, yesterday I think,
- 12:01well, let me say this, I am anticipating we started the year with
- 12:05a little over four hundred was our official count. I'm anticipating will be closer
- 12:11to seven hundred moving into the twenty three twenty four school year. So I
- 12:15think we're going to see some really positive growth. Well, and I think
- 12:18sometimes there may have been there's kind of a with parents, and which is
- 12:20understandable, kind of a wait and see attitude. You know, maybe they
- 12:24wanted to kind of sit back and just see talk to family, friends,
- 12:26other ones that have done it, to see, well, how did they
- 12:28do? And before I decided to make the leap with my child, well,
- 12:31and I think the word of mouth is definitely really important. And I
- 12:35think once people realize all of the extra effort that we go through. You
- 12:41know, when we administered the general Summit of Assessment, we went out and
- 12:45did individual test. We met a family in Madison, down in Boone count
- 12:48we met a family up in Wheeling. We did all of these one off
- 12:52tests to chase the one kid. You know, it's a small thing,
- 12:56but we worked with Mark Swiger. I don't know if you've ever heard of
- 12:58any Energy Express I have. Yeah, Okay, well again, people wouldn't
- 13:03think that a virtual school is going to try to provide those opportunities, but
- 13:05we did, and so we have we have at least one kid that I
- 13:09know of that is going to go to Energy Express unless it changed the Energy
- 13:13Express program at least back in the day, because I know it's very popular
- 13:18in Logan County, you know where I'm from, and uh And it was
- 13:20basically a summer program and it gave a lot of younger adults, I mean
- 13:24like college kids an opportunity to come in and kind of teach them and mentor
- 13:28the kids. A lot went into that. Yeah, so it's a summer
- 13:31reading program that also provides you know, food for the kids, and so
- 13:35again those are the small things that I think once families realize we're still connecting
- 13:39with these groups and providing these opportunities, they're going to realize we do get
- 13:43out in person, as you stated earlier. Yeah, we do have that
- 13:46interaction. You do. You do leave the basement. So we do leave
- 13:48the basement, and we are still providing lots of rich activities for the kids
- 13:54outside of what we offer. We're making those connections with state agencies and making
- 14:00those things happen. Dougsa bloody with the Western Univisual Academy. Give us the

- 17:41have two at one time. I want to welcome in Senator Rupey Phillips and
- 17:45stay Senator Vince Deeds. Good morning, gentlemen. How are you. Good
- 17:48morning, Dave, How are you doing. I am doing fine, mister
- 17:51d A pleasure to have you on the show as well. Senator Phillipson will
- 17:56start with you. The state is still recovering from the tragic killing of State
- 18:03Trooper Corey Maynard less than two weeks ago Mingo County. And while we are
- 18:08going to talk about this morning, Senator Phillips, you have brought up in
- 18:11the past well before this tragic death of the trooper, and that is that
- 18:18good old capital punishment for anyone who would take the life of not only an
- 18:22officer in the line of duty, but any emergency services worker. Talk about
- 18:27your thoughts on that, Senator Phillips, Well, day, First of all,
- 18:30I've been a supporter of capital punishment since when I was in the House
- 18:33of Delegates, but in twenty twenty one, my first year in the Senate,
- 18:40I introduced the bill. I think it was SP two five one,
- 18:42the photo when Katy Johnson bill and you know David's it's just sensels that we
- 18:49put our first responders in danger and the people basically get a slap on the
- 18:56hand. You know, I'm a form believer, an eye for an eye,
- 19:00and you know it's it's time to make a move on it. Um.
- 19:04I mean, this is a cut dry case. Casey Kathy Johnson's was
- 19:08a cut dry case. We need to just move forward with it, and
- 19:12I think we have support in the House and the Senate, so we just
- 19:18got to get leadership and the governor to Hopefully i'd love to see it on
- 19:22special session. Hopefully we have one coming up, maybe in August. I'd
- 19:26love to see it on there, and I'd love to see the public reach
- 19:30out to the Governor's office and to both chambers and say hey, guys,
- 19:33let's let's do it. Senator Dean's your thought on that well, and thank
- 19:38you again for having us. But I really believe this is an issue that
- 19:42we need to have a conversation about, in a discussion and see if we
- 19:48need to enact the legislation that reflects the will of the citizens of West Virginia,
- 19:52because overall, you know, we are the Mountain State, and we
- 19:56are mountaineers, and we believe in freedom. And first responders they go to
- 20:02places where we fear to go, and they do heroic deeds that we cannot
- 20:06do, and they are the thin line that guarantees the law in order in
- 20:10our state. And so you know, anytime we have an attack against the
- 20:15law enforcement officer or a first responder, a first responder as in uniform or
- 20:19responding to a lawful call, it's not only attack against that individual, it's
- 20:27an attack against our society, in our way of life here in the Mountain
- 20:32State. And I think it's really interesting for both of you. And again
- 20:34we're talking with Senator Rupey Phillips and Senator of Vinceted Innsteeds here on five of
- 20:38any lives. I think it's I think we're both to be complimented for looking
- 20:42into this, in my opinion, but also that you're not limiting it,
- 20:45as you said, Senator Phillips, to just police officers. You're talking about
- 20:48any first responder, because you are right, Senator Deeds. These first responders
- 20:53go into situations that are unheard of for the average citizens. I mean,
- 21:00what they what they go into? Now, your comments, yeah, our
- 21:07comments are that's exactly right. I mean, we we asked them. I
- 21:12talked to first responders every day, just like Senator Phillips does, and they
- 21:18go into situations that we you know, the general public has no idea of
- 21:22what we ask of. Man, they really don't. I mean and and
- 21:25uh and and I would encourage everyone to reach out to their local first responders
- 21:30or volunteer fire departments or EMS crews, the the law enforcement officers and say,
- 21:36hey, tell me about your day, and it would have really awakened
- 21:41them to the certain stances that we ask of these young men and women.
- 21:45And with the drug scourge, gentleman, the way it is now, you
- 21:48know, you don't know exactly what it is that these first responders, be
- 21:52a law enforcement EMTs or whatever. You don't know what they what a person
- 21:56that is strung out on on drugs is going to do. And there's so
- 22:00many different drugs out there. I mean, I've got horror stories from people
- 22:04talking to not as I said, not only police officers, but also our
- 22:08emergency crews that are out there that talk about, you know, five to
- 22:12ten people to to take down a one hundred and fifty pound guy or female
- 22:17when they're high on something considerative philips. Yep. You know, Dave,
- 22:21I was sold years ago by one of my buddies in law enforcement that that
- 22:25you know, with the drugs of today, what you just said, they're
- 22:29they're monsters and and you know you basically got to shoot them between the eyes
- 22:33to get them just the stock. And you know, and they're they're a
- 22:37danger to themselves, They're they're a danger to society. Um. You know,
- 22:41Dave I wanted to hit back on the processions for Core remainerd um.
- 22:48I was talking to one of my trooper buddies and and he said, you
- 22:52know, they deal with scumbags every day and coming up to four Lane through
- 22:56Wimson and down through Logan in the Chapmanville. They were just humbled by seeing
- 23:03the support of law enforcement, you know, from from the citizens. I
- 23:07mean, the full lanes was just polluted with people out there just paying respect
- 23:11to Corey and until law enforcement. And to see all the different law enforcements
- 23:17from from different counties and different states, and I mean it was just I
- 23:21mean it was it was a psychasy and I was proud of that to went
- 23:26to the funeral and and and stood by the four lane and paid my respect.
- 23:30Um, but you know, it's it's time we got we got to
- 23:33get movement on this, Dave and and stop it. It's it's senseless.
- 23:37We don't need to lose another law enforcement. Uh, to put anybody as
- 23:41a force first responder in any type of danger that that they're not comfortable,
- 23:47we need they need protection. Bottom line, I would agree. Five.
- 23:51And it was presented in part by Travis Willard, Dreadward June's financial advisor.
- 23:55Just off the Tames Valley accent and learn how Travis and the team can help
- 23:57you reach your financial goals. Is that Edward Jones dot Comber called Travis Willard
- 24:00to day three or four, three ninety seven fifty five fifty three three or
- 24:03four three nine seven fifty five fifty three for your Edward Jones Financial Advisor,
- 24:07Travis Willard, Edward Jones Member SIPC. Senator Phillips, you and I talked
- 24:11about this yesterday, and neither of us nor Senator Deeds are sociologists or psychologists.
- 24:18But you see things like this, Senator Phillips, and I'm gonna start
- 24:21with you and then we'll get to evince to away in on it as well.
- 24:23You see things like this, Senator as symptoms of a much larger problem,
- 24:30a lack of respect, as you called it. Address that well,
- 24:33you know, Dave, I mean, you've got kids that don't respect their
- 24:38teachers, they don't respect law enforcement, they don't respect their parents, they
- 24:41don't respect their grandparents. And you know, I'm a believer bringing paddling back
- 24:48to school. I mean participation trophies, do away with them. I mean,
- 24:52not everybody's going to be a winner, but you've got to work to
- 24:56be a winner. And I mean kids. We got to start with the
- 25:00kids and build our foundation back up to where they're strong and and you know,
- 25:04I mean where they're going to be a productive citizen and respect people and
- 25:08so forth. But we we have to get society to come around and and
- 25:15just quit handing everything out and and you know, let people earn it.
- 25:21You know, if you win a ball game, you win a ball game,
- 25:23you get the trophy. Um. You know, if you go to
- 25:26work, you get a pay day, and you know, and you know,
- 25:30I had a few people. I don't normally go into a place saying
- 25:33who I am. And anyway, someone figured out who I was there a
- 25:37few weeks ago and he said, I need to talk to you. And
- 25:41I said, what's that And he said roads. I said, by the
- 25:44state roads out there working their buts off every day. But you know,
- 25:47trying to hire people as impossible. Hey, so that's another thing I need
- 25:49to talk to you. We need to lower our work standards. And you
- 25:52know, Dave I said that to highways and they sort of laugh a little
- 25:56bit. They said, if they can pass a drug tam and breathe,
- 26:03we'll hire them. You know. But but I don't know where society is
- 26:07going. But as a legislator and a parent of a thirteen year old,
- 26:11um, we've got to get things turned around. And you know, if
- 26:15it's bringing paddling back, I'm all for it gets respect to the parents and
- 26:19the grandparents, and the teachers, and teachers deserve a lot of respects,
- 26:23and law enforcement hands down the reserves all of the respects. Senator Dean's your
- 26:29thoughts. My thoughts are this. You know, I grew up on a
- 26:33dairy farm. You know, I believe in family and the Christian way of
- 26:37life, the Mountaineer way of life, and that that is that starts at
- 26:41a young age. It really does. By the time law enforcements and first
- 26:47responders start dealing with adults eighteen and older, there's been a lot of other
- 26:52factors that have weighed in already in that person's life. And so we need
- 26:56to start early. And that starts with our families. Have a proper family
- 27:00structure and acceptance of responsibility and accountability with all of our young people. I
- 27:07mean, this day and age, it seems like everybody as soon as they
- 27:11get caught into something doing something wrong, they try to blame everybody else.
- 27:17Well, sometimes we just mess up in life. That's okay, that's part
- 27:21of growing up. But but how we how we grow up is we accept
- 27:25responsibility and we're held accountable, and that needs to start at a really young
- 27:30man. Senator Deeds, would you go along with what Senator Phillip said about
- 27:33bringing corporal punishment back into schools. Is that something that you would support.
- 27:38I believe it needs to be a discussion that we that we have it.
- 27:42You know, now you know what we have is you know, young people
- 27:48are are suspended, but they they don't feel any punishment out of that.
- 27:52They just say, oh yeah, they take it as being out of school
- 27:56a day or two. So I believe we need to have that that that
- 28:03that opportunity to implement true punishment whenever you commit a true violation of the law
- 28:11and order. Senators, let's before we let you go, uh, let's
- 28:15get back to the whole just of the conversation. Reason for having you on,
- 28:18uh, and that is to bring back or to have allow capital punishment
- 28:23for anyone who kills an emergency officer. What are you rupe? You said
- 28:27that it that it may be brought up in a special session, or at
- 28:30least you'd like for it to. What are the realistic what are the realistic
- 28:33chances of that happening in your opinion? Well, you know, Dave,
- 28:37I believe if if the first responders out there would again you reach out to
- 28:42the Governor's office, to the President of the Tenant and Speaker of the House
- 28:48UM and start leaving the method. Just start talking to your local legislators UM
- 28:56to say, hey, we want to see this. I think if the
- 28:59public will step up and speak, I think you could possibly see it on
- 29:03the agenda when we go into special session. Well, gentlemen, we'll leave
- 29:07it there. I know you're both very busy with your jobs, because you
- 29:11know, most of you folks do have jobs outside of being legislators, sometimes
- 29:15more than one. I appreciate you guys both for joining the stone. We'll
- 29:19talk again soon. Thanks a lot. Thank the Senators Vince Deeds and Rupy

- 34:47got a ton of text to get to it. I'm going to get to
- 34:50them here in just a couple of moments on something that Senator Phillips and Senator
- 34:52Deed said about about respect. We got a lack of it, and it
- 35:00begins at home. And if you I you know, I've I talk on
- 35:04the radio, and i have other job interest. I'm not in the classroom,
- 35:07but I have a lot of friends that are, and I have friends
- 35:12that have left the classroom as teachers. And one of the reasons, and
- 35:15there are a variety we know about the low pay and so on and so
- 35:19forth, but one of the reasons that people have talked to me about leaving
- 35:24the public education system is because of the lack of discipline and the lack of
- 35:30respect that goes on. There was a time and here again you know,
- 35:37I'm that old guy. I'm that old guy, you know, screaming on
- 35:39the front lawn. Get off my lawn. But there was a time when
- 35:43when both not only students but also parents had respect for teachers. You know,
- 35:49if I got in troubled in school in the nineteen seventies and eighties,
- 35:52and I went home and I told my parents, well, mister so and
- 35:55so or mister so and so is picking on me, my parents would have
- 36:00just been like, well, what did you do? They didn't believe me
- 36:02because I'm a kid and didn't deserve to be believed. You know, you
- 36:06believe the adults first until proven otherwise. It just we got away from all
- 36:10that. And I don't know how you put the ketchup back in the bottle,
- 36:14as they say, because it's a problem, and social media has only
- 36:17made it worse. I mean now, now, now, not only does
- 36:21everybody have an opinion, but they're going to scream at you trying to get
- 36:24you to believe their opinion. I don't know where we go tech says of
- 36:30Dave. I support capital punishment, but I support it equally not putting first
- 36:35responders on a different level. Any murderer should face the same possible consequences.
- 36:39That's that's a good that's a good point. I get that TECH says.
- 36:45It's telling how Christians and conservatives think physical abuse is a solution for issues.
- 36:50I knew as soon as Senator Phillips said that about bringing back he's adamant about
- 36:55this. I talked to him, as I said, Senator Phillips and I
- 36:58literally grew up together, and I talked to him yesterday about this at length.
- 37:02He is adamant about bringing corporal punishment back into schools. I think he
- 37:07may be fighting a losing battle there, because I mean that actually went out
- 37:10of school back when I was in school. I certainly got paddled a lot
- 37:15in school. I know you find that very hard to believe, Ryan,
- 37:16but I actually didn't get in trouble in school a lot because of the mouth
- 37:21thing, you know, the talking and so on and so forth, which
- 37:23served me well, you know, for thirty five years after that, but
- 37:27not so much in English class in ninth grade. But yeah, I got
- 37:30paddled a lot in school. I want to say almost daily, but at
- 37:34least once a week I got paddled in school. You know, it is
- 37:37what it is, glorious results of a misspent youth. But that went away.
- 37:42I think probably when I was in maybe tenth eleventh grade, which would
- 37:45have been med eighties. Maybe that's when it went away. I don't know
- 37:50if that one's going to come back. I really don't let me see text,
- 37:55says Dave so Wester didn't. Republicans are suggesting capital punishment, but just
- 38:01when it's a cop or EMT who dies. Let's focus on cleaning up police
- 38:06corruption, especially West Virginia State Police, before legislating that their lives are more
- 38:09valuable than others. Death penalty for all or none. Don't make it a
- 38:14boot liquor bill. According to a Texter text says accept responsibility unless it's deep
- 38:20state or Marxist. Republicans always deflect responsibility. Do these two senators hang with
- 38:25the insurrection supporting a Zinger? According to a Texter TEXTU said someone should paddle
- 38:32rupee. Lord, please help us. These people are state lawmakers. We
- 38:37could do so much better for our children. Today's parents, as a text,
- 38:45are failing to teach their children to be respectful. But it's reflective of
- 38:49Generation X. Gen X clearly raise people to be terrible parents. I'm gonna
- 38:54say this about gen X. You know, I am the card carry member
- 38:59of Jenna, you know, kid of the eighties. But when we get
- 39:04on this show, we meaning myself and I didn't have kids but me meaning
- 39:08myself and the Texters and whatever, and we complain about these kids today.
- 39:13Well, who raised these kids today? You know we did. I'm fifty
- 39:16two. Most people my age are starting to have grandkids now, you know,
- 39:21they have kids in their twenties. You know, these kids that we
- 39:24complain about so much, who raised them? My generation, My generations are
- 39:30the one that raised them. So sometimes you gotta look at the mirror.

- 39:58relation and Kenny Bass. There is some stuff going down or perhaps that will
- 40:02soon with the state Superintendent of Schools and it has to do with the Upshur
- 40:07County school system. Now, there is a program called ESSER, which is
- 40:12short that's e SS Yard Shore for Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund.
- 40:19It's nearly a two hundred billion dollar federal program whose purpose is to help students
- 40:25and those in the education system to get through what was COVID a couple of
- 40:30years ago. And you'll recall that West Virginia came into about seven hundred and
- 40:35sixty one million dollars specifically for education. I know there were billions, but
- 40:38I'm talking about just for education, but it's like seven hundred sixty one million.
- 40:42I think it's what the figure was. And it's all coming out now
- 40:45about rampant fraud with COVID funds. The Gazette, as a matter of fact,
- 40:50headline story yesterday about the billions across America that was fraudently used of the
- 40:57COVID funds. I mean, imagine that you send billions out from the for
- 41:00no reason and there's fraud. Who's all that counting? Anyway? According to
- 41:05Kenny Bast's story. There was a routine audit of this esser program in Upsher
- 41:08County and it uncovered some interesting things, and state school Superintendent David Roach's name
- 41:15is being thrown about. Allegedly funds were spent on things like no bid contracts,
- 41:22entertainment room rentals, etc. Etc. Doctor Sarah Lewis Stankas was the
- 41:29Upshur County Schools superintendent during that time. She left that job last August when
- 41:36Superintendent to Schools of Western David Roach hired her to be one of two deputy
- 41:40state superintendents, and she left that job last month. Now, emails have
- 41:45now come out saying that mister Roach planned to suspend doctor Lewis Stankus, citing
- 41:52findings in these audits as a reason to suspend her. Now the state school
- 41:58board is wondering why stank Us was hired at all, without advertising the job
- 42:06or without interviewing anyone else. Now, sources and this was as of showtime,
- 42:10which was nine o'clock this morning. Sources are saying that at that time,
- 42:15if Superintendent Roach did not step down before the meeting, he would be
- 42:21fired. I mean this all developed, I mean, I know Kenny Bass
- 42:24has been working on the story for sometime. This all developed over the last
- 42:28twelve twenty four hours or so. Now that meeting was set, I understand
- 42:31to begin at nine o'clock this morning. Pretty heavy stuff. I just during
- 42:37the break there stuck my head in the news room talking to Jeff Jenkins.
- 42:38He's monitoring the situation and if something happens within the next ten minutes, Jeff,
- 42:44certainly we'll jump in. I'm sure I'll jump in unhappy as well,
- 42:46And of course we'll be following the story throughout the day. It's a major
- 42:50story. And speaking of the COVID fraud, unrelated, Jared Lewis as a
- 42:57story posted on the website where a guy from Bridgeport is now facing up to
- 43:02twenty years in prison for accepting over a half a million dollars in fraudulent COVID
- 43:07funds. His name is James Nulty, fifty two years old, and this
- 43:13is following a lengthy FBI investigation and more are coming. Billions, that's billions
- 43:22with a B, folks, Billions have been fraudently claimed in COVID funds.

- 47:15dot Com. I forgot to mention Ryan the today's flag Day, So Happy
- 47:19Flag Day, Texas, Dave like you, I'm a kid of the seventies
- 47:22and eighties, and I got paddled in third grade for talking in the hallway
- 47:25to lunch line because other classroom doors were open. When I got home,
- 47:29my father did not go and jump on the teacher. He told me,
- 47:32quote, you knew the rules, you broke them end quote. It wasn't
- 47:36the paddling that hurt. It was a humiliation of having it done in front
- 47:38of the class. There weren't kids beating up teachers or taking control of the
- 47:44class at that time. According to a text or text says a text or
- 47:49saying, they don't think one group of people's lives are more valuable, which
- 47:52I agree. However, that same view needs to apply to the discriminatory charge
- 47:58of hate crimes as well. Again, one lives are not worth more than
- 48:01others. Tex says, I can't imagine you being paddled for talking, a
- 48:06nice, quiet young man like you. Thanks. I think that was sarcasm,
- 48:14Texas. Someone needs to look at Carol Miller getting three million dollars in
- 48:16COVID money. Happy birthday, Happy seventy seven. A former president Donald Trump,
- 48:22he of course, pled not guilty yesterday in Miami, becoming the first
- 48:29former president to face a federal charge. He pled not guilty and was asked,
- 48:37was not asked, I should say to surrender his passport and has no
- 48:42travel restrictions. He's not considered to be a flight risk. I mean,
- 48:45it's not hard to figure out it's Donald Trump, you know, so if
- 48:50he's not going to try to escape or anything. In fact, when it
- 48:53was over, he hopped a plane back to New Jersey for a fundraiser held
- 48:58a nightclub there, which this indictment, in my opinion, and I've talked
- 49:02about this before, does nothing but amp up the funds he's getting for his
- 49:07presidential campaign next year. Thirty seven counts many under the SPNA jacked for taking
- 49:16documents that he shouldn't have and then refusing to give them back. And this
- 49:23is just the Florida case. Remember he's probably going to face unrelated charges in
- 49:30Georgia in the election probe there where he pressured elections officials to quote find more
- 49:37votes for him. And in the meantime, his popularity continues to grow even
- 49:45more. And that's really And I'm not saying you should ignore what happened in
- 49:53Florida at all. I'm not saying that, But I'm just saying that I
- 49:59do a lot of reading on social media and different columns and so on,
- 50:01and so forth and people that thought, when this whole thing first came up,
- 50:07well, this is going to be the end of Donald Trump. No,
- 50:13it's not. It's not. Donald Trump is not going anywhere now.
- 50:17I don't know whether he's going to go to jail. I don't have any
- 50:22inside information there. But I can say this, if you think again,
- 50:25and I said this time and time again, if you think that anything that's
- 50:30that went on during that hearing in Florida yesterday is going to in any way,
- 50:36shape, form or fashion to quote our governor is going to impact at
- 50:40all in a negative light the popularity of Donald Trump. You've got another thing
- 50:47coming because it's simply not going to happen a matter of fact, is making
- 50:51it more popular, and it's putting more money in his bank account. Texas
- 50:57to your Dave shows over time to bring up Trump, I did text says
- 51:02Dave heard your boy. He's my boy. Now your boy Eric Tarr and
- 51:07Hoppy yesterday saying he would vote for Trump even if he's in jail. That
- 51:10tells you everything you need to know about the Republicans in West Virginia. According
- 51:15to a tex Texas, Trump is a criminal, period start the chance of
- 51:22lock him up a reference to the Virtual Academy guy, the CEO that I
- 51:30had on earlier. The chairman, Doug Sippoletti, Texas says virtual schools are
- 51:32a bad idea according to a text room and final text about Senator Phillips says,
