- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, Welcome to the Inside the Birds postgame show.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Jeff Moscher, Adam Kaplan here, and Adam, I am going
- 0:16Speaker 1: to borrow a phrase from you last year after four
- 0:19Speaker 1: weeks when the Eagles were two and two, and you
- 0:22Speaker 1: said the Eagles have more problems than I anticipated going
- 0:26Speaker 1: into the season. And now, as the Eagles lose their
- 0:29Speaker 1: second straight four and two and losing by seventeen points
- 0:34Speaker 1: to the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football, a
- 0:37Speaker 1: score I could not have absolutely at all fathomed the
- 0:41Speaker 1: Eagles have some more issues than I anticipated.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I am borrowing your line there.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and last year they got them. It
- 0:49Speaker 3: was not a roster issue like it is this year.
- 0:51Speaker 3: It's just they had to get some things cleaned up
- 0:52Speaker 3: and corrected and they did. Whereas here they have got
- 0:55Speaker 3: all sorts of depth issues which we were aware of,
- 0:57Speaker 3: but they may be a little bit worse so we anticipated.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Cornerback situation is when Mitchell got hurt, Wow, that was
- 1:07Speaker 3: not good. You know, as you would expect. They went
- 1:12Speaker 3: after Ringo, they went after Jackson, former Giant. Mitchell's limited
- 1:16Speaker 3: to thirteen snaps and it showed, so yeah, it was bad.
- 1:20Speaker 3: It was bad. And odds seventeen points back to back weeks.
- 1:26Speaker 3: They're having trouble scoring the last three games, only fourteen
- 1:28Speaker 3: points total over the last three games in the second
- 1:30Speaker 3: half of those games. So, yeah, they've got some problems.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll agree with you.
- 1:35Speaker 3: They have a depth issue.
- 1:37Speaker 1: They're not as strong as they were at the end
- 1:39Speaker 1: of last year, just from a fifty three man standpoint,
- 1:41Speaker 1: but and the injuries to Carter Landon Dickerson and then
- 1:45Speaker 1: Quentin on Mitchell leaving the game really show that. But
- 1:48Speaker 1: they are not a roster that is seventeen points worse
- 1:51Speaker 1: than the Giants.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Even on the Giants' best day.
- 1:53Speaker 1: They have I think a secondary issue to that that
- 1:57Speaker 1: is just as bad, and I don't know how to
- 2:00Speaker 1: exactly articulated. I don't want to call it a coaching issue.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I don't want to call it a chemistry issue. But
- 2:06Speaker 1: there's no doubt that through six weeks there's a lot.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Of guys not on the same.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Page, and there are coaches, especially on the offensive side,
- 2:14Speaker 1: that are not getting through to the personnel. There's personnel
- 2:17Speaker 1: that are not getting through to each other. We know
- 2:18Speaker 1: about the meeting last week and what that has resulted
- 2:22Speaker 1: in is a team that doesn't look like it's playing
- 2:25Speaker 1: for each other or or even understands how to solve
- 2:29Speaker 1: its own problems. And when that happens, you get a
- 2:31Speaker 1: snowball effect. And for the first time in a while, Adam,
- 2:35Speaker 1: what we saw was a team bully the Eagles in
- 2:38Speaker 1: the trenches, both offensively and defensively, in a way that
- 2:41Speaker 1: we haven't really seen in a while. And to me,
- 2:43Speaker 1: that is sort of a byproduct of a team that
- 2:47Speaker 1: right now is just going through it and doesn't know
- 2:49Speaker 1: how to pull itself out of the hole.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it means that you're getting out coaching, out played.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I mean, it's just that that's absolutely happened. They got handled. Yeah,
- 2:57Speaker 3: Jackson Dart I didn't realize he ran this well. G's
- 3:01Speaker 3: his first three starts, each one over fifty yards rushing,
- 3:05Speaker 3: pretty impressive. Camp Scatabo after a slow start, got it going.
- 3:09Speaker 3: It goes to your point, it's this run defense lately
- 3:12Speaker 3: is kind of been a head scratcher. It's not like terrible,
- 3:15Speaker 3: like they're giving up two hundred yards, but they're just
- 3:18Speaker 3: giving up too. They're getting gashed eight yards here, ten
- 3:21Speaker 3: yards here, and so forth. The twenty yard at dark
- 3:23Speaker 3: for the touchdown. Scatabo had an eighteen yarder. Yeah. So
- 3:27Speaker 3: overall the defense, we'll break it down in a couple
- 3:31Speaker 3: of minutes, but they can't be very happy and offensively
- 3:34Speaker 3: after a very strong, mostly strong first half, I called
- 3:38Speaker 3: him conservative Kevin. He showed up with the first two run,
- 3:42Speaker 3: first two plays runs, I'm like, well, what are you
- 3:44Speaker 3: doing here? Like the Giants like the protection, well, you know,
- 3:48Speaker 3: we obviously can get started. Their protection was mostly pretty
- 3:50Speaker 3: good in this game. I agree, you know that that
- 3:53Speaker 3: was that that was something to feel pretty good about,
- 3:55Speaker 3: considering all the problems that they've had with their offensive
- 3:57Speaker 3: line and the changes and mentioned Dickerson being it was out,
- 4:02Speaker 3: but I Tooth had to start, which we expected, and
- 4:05Speaker 3: Cam Jurgens with coming back for the back surgery, and
- 4:08Speaker 3: then the oddness it's clearly the physically related where they're not.
- 4:12Speaker 3: They're not at no outside zone and just overall no
- 4:15Speaker 3: outside run plays, which is most very little in this season.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Is absolutely bizarre. I know they're not gonna I know
- 4:21Speaker 3: there's no way Sirianni will tell the truth on that one.
- 4:24Speaker 3: You're just not gonna not gonna say. I physically we
- 4:26Speaker 3: can't do it. So they have Again, you can't anticipate
- 4:30Speaker 3: this of how the hell old we know that? Like
- 4:31Speaker 3: anyone would know that? I mean, I don't know if
- 4:33Speaker 3: they knew that, but clearly there's something going on with that.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the Eagles were seven and a half
- 4:38Speaker 1: point road favorites going into this game coming off a loss.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So even if people felt that the Eagles were not
- 4:43Speaker 1: the same team or reeling a little bit, I mean,
- 4:47Speaker 1: the expectation was that this Giants team without Malik Neighbors,
- 4:50Speaker 1: especially without Darius Slayton, that could only really beat you
- 4:54Speaker 1: one way. The Giants could only move the ball one
- 4:56Speaker 1: way through the ground, and you knew that going in,
- 5:00Speaker 1: and defensively they hadn't played very well, so it didn't
- 5:03Speaker 1: feel like there was an avenue for the Giants to
- 5:06Speaker 1: not only pull off an upset unless the game got
- 5:09Speaker 1: crazy with turnovers, which there was only one. But it
- 5:12Speaker 1: would be like nobody could say that the Giants could
- 5:14Speaker 1: win this game by seventeen points without this game being
- 5:18Speaker 1: very fluky.
- 5:19Speaker 2: But the game wasn't fluky.
- 5:20Speaker 1: The Giants just literally beat their asses at the line
- 5:23Speaker 1: of scrimmage on almost eighty percent of the plays that
- 5:26Speaker 1: they ran.
- 5:27Speaker 2: The Eagles had one turnover, and it came late. They
- 5:29Speaker 2: were already losing.
- 5:31Speaker 1: This was not one of those strange games where the
- 5:32Speaker 1: ball takes we were at hops other than the Eagles
- 5:35Speaker 1: kickoff returns, which they do every week anyway. So this
- 5:38Speaker 1: was literally just a case of a lost team that
- 5:41Speaker 1: can't figure it out, getting absolutely dismantled and bullied by
- 5:45Speaker 1: a lesser team and almost emasculated.
- 5:47Speaker 2: And so before we really.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Start breaking on offensive defense, I really wonder where Nick
- 5:55Speaker 1: Sirianni goes from here, how the coaches deal with this.
- 5:58Speaker 2: They have a mini by this weekend.
- 6:00Speaker 1: The players are going to have to figure this out,
- 6:02Speaker 1: because again, this was not a one of those crazy
- 6:05Speaker 1: losses that you just say the football gods were against us.
- 6:08Speaker 1: This was a failure of execution on so many levels
- 6:12Speaker 1: against a team that really had no right to execute
- 6:16Speaker 1: that well against you.
- 6:17Speaker 3: I mean, when the Saints rolled over the Giants last
- 6:20Speaker 3: week like they did, if the Giants got up fourteen
- 6:22Speaker 3: to three, twenty six straight points, I'm like this this team,
- 6:26Speaker 3: I mean, I know they're at home, but they can't
- 6:28Speaker 3: be feeling really good about themselves. And then right, yeah,
- 6:31Speaker 3: the Eagles. Now I'll say this about the Eagles. They
- 6:33Speaker 3: got down, you know, they were down thirteen to three,
- 6:35Speaker 3: and then we're like, what is wrong with this team?
- 6:39Speaker 3: And then they came back. It took the lady scored
- 6:41Speaker 3: fourteenth straight. You know, the hurts, he was protected through
- 6:44Speaker 3: the ball got rid of it. It was a lot
- 6:47Speaker 3: of crossers in breakers. Okay, this is what we've been
- 6:50Speaker 3: waiting for. It. So it's so odd. Almost every game
- 6:52Speaker 3: they have won great half where you go, wow, they're rolling.
- 6:54Speaker 3: They're rolling a little bit here, right, But then the
- 6:58Speaker 3: running game you saw in the first drive bar Arkley
- 7:01Speaker 3: had the eighteen yarder, which is his longest run of
- 7:04Speaker 3: the season to to date. They had a couple of
- 7:06Speaker 3: really great runs and then after that they kind of
- 7:08Speaker 3: got stuffed again up the middle. It's very strange. And
- 7:12Speaker 3: another thing I want to add, their special teams returns
- 7:15Speaker 3: are mostly terrible. It's hard this tank Bigsby trade giving
- 7:19Speaker 3: up to give for that? Yeah, very good. And the
- 7:23Speaker 3: part returns. What do they have against Britain? Covey what,
- 7:26Speaker 3: what's why can't Dotson's doing the best he can is
- 7:30Speaker 3: just not great at it? Right? They need to get
- 7:32Speaker 3: there are certain things they can do that they have
- 7:35Speaker 3: control over Bigsby's got to be better, like they got
- 7:38Speaker 3: to try. I know that's you have to have to returners.
- 7:40Speaker 3: But by the revised kickoff roles, they got to figure
- 7:44Speaker 3: out a better way to do it. Then you know,
- 7:45Speaker 3: Dylan uh got banged up there, so they because he
- 7:49Speaker 3: I know the word I got from talking to some
- 7:51Speaker 3: clubs about this. You like to have bigger returners on
- 7:55Speaker 3: kickoff returns. And that's fine. That's why Bixby's there, and
- 7:58Speaker 3: that's why Dylan has done something it. But man, it's
- 8:01Speaker 3: because if you look at Okay, why are they why
- 8:03Speaker 3: are they foreign to? Why are they lost to in
- 8:05Speaker 3: a row? Why are the things? Why are their problems?
- 8:08Speaker 3: You look at every area of their football team right now?
- 8:10Speaker 3: Not good enough?
- 8:12Speaker 2: I mean, you're right.
- 8:12Speaker 1: The Bigsby return that you were talking about is sort
- 8:15Speaker 1: of like a microcosm of the year. Not only does
- 8:17Speaker 1: he muff it, that's the mistake. Okay, he muffs a
- 8:20Speaker 1: kickoff return, so that's a bad but then he compounds
- 8:24Speaker 1: it by fielding the ball in the end zone, not
- 8:28Speaker 1: kneeling it there, trying to take it out, and then
- 8:31Speaker 1: getting tackled deep in Ego's territory. So you already did
- 8:34Speaker 1: one bad thing and then you made it worse, and
- 8:37Speaker 1: that just shows you right now the team is sort
- 8:39Speaker 1: of lacking this focus, this understand fundamental understanding of what
- 8:44Speaker 1: to do in situations and that that's coaching. But that's
- 8:47Speaker 1: got to like start, Like you just said, You've got Covey,
- 8:51Speaker 1: You've got Xavier Gibson, who's like you have people so
- 8:55Speaker 1: that you can hold other people accountable when they make mistakes.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And right now it's just throw the same guys back
- 9:00Speaker 1: out there and expect something to change.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not working. Maybe the only thing. I mean,
- 9:06Speaker 3: if you look at special teams, the pun and kick,
- 9:08Speaker 3: the punter and the kick are pretty darn good. They're
- 9:10Speaker 3: having Pro Bowl type seasons. But man with the return game,
- 9:13Speaker 3: which for years, I mean that Covey was one of
- 9:17Speaker 3: the best in the NFL a few years ago. But
- 9:20Speaker 3: you know he's back on the practice squad. You know,
- 9:22Speaker 3: you would think they at some point. I think our
- 9:24Speaker 3: Andrew Checko said when he talked to Covey in the
- 9:26Speaker 3: locker room, he indicated every sign that he came back
- 9:29Speaker 3: as they told him he was going to get a chance. Well,
- 9:31Speaker 3: when's that chance coming? It needs to come quickly. Yeah,
- 9:34Speaker 3: that would be a good time.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, so let's get into breaking down the
- 9:39Speaker 1: offense and the defense, and we'll getting into the injuries too. Okay,
- 9:44Speaker 1: this game started off offensively the way I think we
- 9:47Speaker 1: all thought it could and would, which is, you know,
- 9:49Speaker 1: Barkley rips off a long run, longest runt of the year.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Then he follows it right up with a thirteen yard run.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Then Dallas gotter, as you mentioned, start getting the ball
- 9:57Speaker 1: on the crossers, and there was fluidity yeah, to what
- 10:00Speaker 1: the Eagles are doing offensively, and just like every other game.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And I'm really curious to go into the tape on
- 10:08Speaker 1: this because it looks like the Giants also made a
- 10:11Speaker 1: very strategical change like the Bucks did and like the
- 10:15Speaker 1: Broncos did, of playing more man coverage and switching the
- 10:18Speaker 1: zone in the second half.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Now, if that's the case, this is now three weeks
- 10:22Speaker 2: in a row, this.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Should not be that confusing to you of an offense
- 10:26Speaker 1: to where you're completely shut down. You've got man beaters,
- 10:29Speaker 1: you've got zone beaters. And while the Giants were getting
- 10:32Speaker 1: some pressure at times, not enough so that it should
- 10:35Speaker 1: have thrown you out of rhythm.
- 10:36Speaker 2: So I think I think Kevin Petulo.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Has really got to get with Sirianni and they have
- 10:41Speaker 1: to figure this out. And I know that Jalen Hurts
- 10:45Speaker 1: cannot miss wide open receivers like he missed DeVante Smith
- 10:49Speaker 1: on that third and six.
- 10:50Speaker 2: That was a very major turning point of the game.
- 10:54Speaker 1: That's a touchdown that would have put the Eagles right
- 10:57Speaker 1: back up.
- 10:58Speaker 3: It would have and also, well I guess the positives
- 11:01Speaker 3: it Hurts only that was Hurts the interception return. It
- 11:05Speaker 3: was his first turnover. He did have to fumble in
- 11:07Speaker 3: another game, but it was not recovered by the defense,
- 11:09Speaker 3: so he's it was careful with the football again, really
- 11:12Speaker 3: good first half. The protection was mostly good. He was
- 11:14Speaker 3: sacked in the first half twice. But you felt that
- 11:18Speaker 3: on your point to expand a little bit more, there
- 11:20Speaker 3: was an offensive rhythm that came out mostly throwing right
- 11:23Speaker 3: that that was again something we had been aggressive with
- 11:27Speaker 3: you like that. The chemistry we saw with Goddard and
- 11:30Speaker 3: Hurts in training camp. And we've said this before, you
- 11:33Speaker 3: never truly know what's going to happen. You think, you
- 11:35Speaker 3: see it, it looks good, and then it doesn't seem
- 11:38Speaker 3: to happen. But their chemistry is very good. That's something
- 11:41Speaker 3: you had to see. You saw it. Brown had a
- 11:44Speaker 3: big first half, really big first half of seventy three yards.
- 11:50Speaker 3: But the bottom line is they couldnot take advantage of
- 11:53Speaker 3: that in the second half for whatever reason, whether it
- 11:57Speaker 3: was pass pro we'll find out what the tape looks like.
- 12:01Speaker 3: But it just disappointed these second halfs. It's just it's
- 12:04Speaker 3: very odd. It's just very very odd to me.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it almost doesn't make sense anymore. And that's why
- 12:11Speaker 1: it's really hard until we see tape. But even when
- 12:13Speaker 1: you see the tape, it's going to be hard to say, well,
- 12:15Speaker 1: why couldn't they execute in that situation. I don't think
- 12:18Speaker 1: the Giants did anything so elaborate or innovative that it's
- 12:24Speaker 1: something the Eagles haven't seen before. They just constantly keep
- 12:27Speaker 1: getting thrown out of that rhythm. And aj Brown did
- 12:30Speaker 1: have a good first half. I mean, thirty of it
- 12:31Speaker 1: came on one play and then the rest of it
- 12:34Speaker 1: was radic. But the ball was finding him. The ball
- 12:36Speaker 1: is finding god. Got Her had a great I mean,
- 12:38Speaker 1: I want to say got Her had a great game
- 12:40Speaker 1: to Honestly, it was just wide open, so he caught
- 12:42Speaker 1: the balls that were throwing to one Bajael and saw
- 12:43Speaker 1: it it was there. But this running game man. After
- 12:48Speaker 1: Saquon had sixty yards in his first ten carries, Adam
- 12:52Speaker 1: he finished with twelve carries and less than he lost
- 12:56Speaker 1: two yards after that.
- 12:57Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 12:58Speaker 3: This, it's there's just no way to know that the
- 13:01Speaker 3: offensive line, in terms of run blocking and production, will
- 13:05Speaker 3: be this bad.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, they're pretle. What's that they're too predictable with They're
- 13:11Speaker 2: a little.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Bit well, it's it's these inside runs. It's like none
- 13:18Speaker 3: of them seem to work. Now. They did on the
- 13:22Speaker 3: first series, but after that, the inside runs are terrible.
- 13:24Speaker 3: They just didn't do anything.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Agree and they don't want to switch it up and
- 13:28Speaker 1: run to the outside. It feels, I mean, the inside
- 13:31Speaker 1: zone has been their staple. I get it, it's been
- 13:33Speaker 1: their bread and butter. But again, teams study you. They
- 13:37Speaker 1: know your tendencies, they know your formations, they know how
- 13:39Speaker 1: you line up. Now and whereas the Eagles used to
- 13:42Speaker 1: be able to say it doesn't matter, right, we've got
- 13:44Speaker 1: like this huge, massive offensive line. This is not the
- 13:47Speaker 1: same offensive line because of injuries, and it's not as
- 13:50Speaker 1: massive as it was without Beckton. So I think the
- 13:53Speaker 1: Eagles have been slow to recognize that as a staff
- 13:55Speaker 1: and a play caller and say, we need to diversify
- 13:59Speaker 1: this running game to throw some people off of our
- 14:02Speaker 1: normal routine because we don't have the same offensive line
- 14:05Speaker 1: right now.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Plus add the screen game they needed, which they've done
- 14:09Speaker 3: a little bit. When they've done it this season. Little
- 14:11Speaker 3: they've done it, it's been hasn't been bad. So they
- 14:14Speaker 3: have to add that. They had a little bit of
- 14:17Speaker 3: an issue with Brian Burns number zero, and he's good. Yea, yeah,
- 14:23Speaker 3: they had a little issue with him in the game.
- 14:25Speaker 3: But overall it has to start with the run game.
- 14:29Speaker 3: And it is just an absolute nightmare on this many
- 14:33Speaker 3: by these four days and the coaches have to self
- 14:37Speaker 3: scout themselves here. This is not a like they're somewhat
- 14:41Speaker 3: limited because of the you don't have Dickerson this game,
- 14:46Speaker 3: and obviously he's not been himself this season. We know
- 14:49Speaker 3: about the surgeries. He's clearly out himself. Jurgons is not himself,
- 14:53Speaker 3: So they have a problem running inside. But this is
- 14:56Speaker 3: where Stoutter designs at the run game. He's got to
- 14:58Speaker 3: figure out a way, like they've there's got to be
- 15:00Speaker 3: something they can do I know fans keep saying like
- 15:03Speaker 3: they want to that they want to bench players, that
- 15:05Speaker 3: no one's getting benched. Well, by the way, it's it's
- 15:09Speaker 3: easy to say that, who are you going to?
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 15:12Speaker 3: Where are you going? I don't think before they just
- 15:16Speaker 3: they're frustrated. We get we hear we hear you, we
- 15:18Speaker 3: feel you. But you have to think before you speak. Yeah,
- 15:21Speaker 3: who you replacing them with? Now? The trade deadlines a
- 15:24Speaker 3: little bit later this year. It's on November fifth, first
- 15:27Speaker 3: Tuesday in November whatever that is, the fourth or the fifth.
- 15:30Speaker 3: I know they have look, they have they're they're going
- 15:32Speaker 3: to be there. They know they have to get a
- 15:33Speaker 3: corner or two. Quite frankly, I would get two, but
- 15:37Speaker 3: they edge Rush is okay, needs to be better. But man,
- 15:41Speaker 3: they need a Jack riscal in the worst way. They
- 15:44Speaker 3: need somebody who if guys physically, if they're if the
- 15:47Speaker 3: guy can't play in an interior, they got to have
- 15:50Speaker 3: somebody because it's get Brett. Brett Toth played every snap
- 15:53Speaker 3: in this game. But they've got to find players that
- 15:56Speaker 3: have been there and done that.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Yeah, they got to get healthy. That's that's a big
- 16:01Speaker 1: part of it. But you're right, there's no there's no
- 16:03Speaker 1: door number two. These are especially on offense. This is
- 16:07Speaker 1: virtually the same offense you won a Super Bowl with
- 16:09Speaker 1: last year and dominated it's it's it's about figuring out
- 16:13Speaker 1: how to unlock the players who are currently been locked.
- 16:17Speaker 1: And you know, Jalen Hurts stood at the podium and
- 16:20Speaker 1: he took accountability.
- 16:21Speaker 2: He said, it's on me.
- 16:22Speaker 1: He was also referring to the deep ball to DeVante Smith,
- 16:25Speaker 1: but in.
- 16:25Speaker 2: General, he was saying he's got to be better.
- 16:28Speaker 1: You know, you can look at that and say, that's
- 16:30Speaker 1: what everybody, every coach and quarterback says when they lose,
- 16:33Speaker 1: and hope that he's being sincere about it. But he
- 16:35Speaker 1: hasn't played well. I mean, that's that's we talked about
- 16:38Speaker 1: it on inside the tape. There's plays there and there
- 16:40Speaker 1: were plays yesterday. I'm sure the tape, I'm sorry Sunday
- 16:43Speaker 1: that the or Thursday, that the tape will show where
- 16:47Speaker 1: there were some guys open and for whatever reason, he's
- 16:49Speaker 1: not going there that that part. We know that's always
- 16:52Speaker 1: part of his game where he's not going to see
- 16:54Speaker 1: it always clearly and be able to compensate. But he's
- 16:57Speaker 1: really not giving them a running element right now, which
- 17:00Speaker 1: always been the compensator, and there are just two. There
- 17:03Speaker 1: are guys who are open that he's got to be
- 17:04Speaker 1: able to hit even outside the numbers that he's just not.
- 17:08Speaker 3: That's surprisingly yeah, but yeah, the hurts of the run game, man,
- 17:11Speaker 3: it has been. I mean he ran up more but
- 17:13Speaker 3: with seven. But of course he had some toush pushes,
- 17:16Speaker 3: so right, yeah, they when you have a bunch of
- 17:19Speaker 3: shoe yards carries, yes that your average per carry is
- 17:22Speaker 3: going to go down. But he did have he just
- 17:24Speaker 3: had the nine yarder was the long one. Yeah, it's
- 17:27Speaker 3: not been the meaningful part that it has been the
- 17:29Speaker 3: pay Now this obviously plays too issues with the interior
- 17:33Speaker 3: of their offensive line. It's, uh, you can't make guys healthier.
- 17:38Speaker 3: You just that that's not a stable issue.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Or no, no, that that's me. That's that's the run
- 17:44Speaker 2: game issue.
- 17:44Speaker 1: The past game issue is less about the old line
- 17:46Speaker 1: and more about him and the receivers and just not
- 17:49Speaker 1: being on the same page and and even the new
- 17:51Speaker 1: play caller not being able to find the rhythm that's
- 17:54Speaker 1: going to get them all.
- 17:55Speaker 2: This is not I'm not putting this on one person.
- 17:57Speaker 1: It's got to be on everybody because it's too many
- 17:59Speaker 1: failures going on at one point.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Yeah, and all of a sudden, you know, the Washington
- 18:03Speaker 3: had under the Commanders, had that incredible win, come back
- 18:06Speaker 3: win at the Chargers. Now the division all of a sudden,
- 18:09Speaker 3: which looks like a runaway. It ain't no runaway, folks.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Now that the Commandos are back. Yeah, and the Eagles
- 18:15Speaker 3: are reeling after two straight losses. Is and they have
- 18:18Speaker 3: as we said that they have the mini by then
- 18:20Speaker 3: they play at the Vikings and it could be Carson Wentz,
- 18:23Speaker 3: we'll see.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah they look cowboys are scoring points. I mean you're
- 18:26Speaker 2: yeah they.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, boy without ceedee lamb. And it's it's boy
- 18:33Speaker 3: this NFL this year it's they had offense called parody.
- 18:36Speaker 3: The NFL will tell you, as they've told me for years,
- 18:38Speaker 3: we call competitive balance. Yeah, it's real. Even this year.
- 18:42Speaker 3: It's not great. It's not great football. But there are
- 18:44Speaker 3: a lot of teams bunched up right, all.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Right, Uh, let's look at the Eagles defense. I have
- 18:49Speaker 2: a lot to say.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I'm sure you do.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Okay, So Jillen Carter is out of the game or
- 18:55Speaker 1: he doesn't play the game because of the heel injury.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Quinnya Mitchell leaves the game. I get it is too
- 19:01Speaker 1: that might be your two best players on defense. Okay,
- 19:04Speaker 1: on the other side of the ball, the Giants don't
- 19:06Speaker 1: have Leak Neighbors or Darius Leeton and they're barely using
- 19:09Speaker 1: Tyrone Tracy at this point. And their offensive lines okay,
- 19:12Speaker 1: you know, we talked about how it's improved but not
- 19:15Speaker 1: not unbelievable. There's no excuse to get bullied at the
- 19:19Speaker 1: point of attack the way the Eagles did in the trenches.
- 19:22Speaker 1: That and not just in the trenches, but even when
- 19:25Speaker 1: when the Giants were able to get into the second level,
- 19:28Speaker 1: I mean mccouba was getting blocked by Theo Johnson down
- 19:31Speaker 1: the field, Campbell and Bond were getting blocked. I was
- 19:35Speaker 1: really surprised by the physicality that the Eagles didn't play
- 19:40Speaker 1: with as much as the physicality that the Giants did
- 19:42Speaker 1: play with.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Yes, and if you never heard of little Jordan Humphrey,
- 19:45Speaker 3: you know who he is right now because he the
- 19:48Speaker 3: big thirty four yard er Ringo. He got in front
- 19:51Speaker 3: of Ringo. Robins had a great game. Hyatt, Jalen Hyatt,
- 19:57Speaker 3: who has been a very big disappointment for the Giants,
- 19:59Speaker 3: is a third round pick. He almost had that deep ball,
- 20:03Speaker 3: which yeah, that was close, but yeah they got they
- 20:07Speaker 3: got bully balled if you want to it was weird. Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Now again, without Carter, it's going to be a problem,
- 20:13Speaker 3: and it was. It wasn't early, but progressively it became
- 20:16Speaker 3: a dart in the run game Darred, I know he
- 20:18Speaker 3: threw for less than two hundred only threw it twenty
- 20:20Speaker 3: five times, but he had a bunch of big passes.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Eagles for the most part could not get to him,
- 20:27Speaker 3: and it was a problem. Interesting the way that they
- 20:29Speaker 3: started the game Ojan Laurie technically started in the game,
- 20:34Speaker 3: they started more of a mean they just they just
- 20:39Speaker 3: could not figure out what the defensively that you saw
- 20:43Speaker 3: the second half last week and then this game. Throughout
- 20:46Speaker 3: the game, they just were not in sync defensively. Obviously,
- 20:49Speaker 3: without your two best players on defense, it's going to
- 20:52Speaker 3: be a problem, or arguably your two best bond's pretty
- 20:55Speaker 3: darn good, but it was an issue. So by the way,
- 20:58Speaker 3: Nikobe Dean did not play on defense. He played on
- 21:00Speaker 3: specials only, but we were wont to have what that
- 21:02Speaker 3: would look. We know if he played on defense would
- 21:04Speaker 3: be barely anything. And he didn't play on defense at all.
- 21:07Speaker 3: But yeah, they and they just had trouble mustering a
- 21:10Speaker 3: pass rush. We'll see what the Blitz numbers look like. Yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 3: Oji played a lot, Ringo had to play a lot
- 21:19Speaker 3: because they didn't have anywhere to go. And Jory it
- 21:22Speaker 3: was weird. Ringo struggled early, pulled him, put Jackson in
- 21:27Speaker 3: and then uh, and then they had the injury to Mitchell,
- 21:31Speaker 3: so it was basically they were down to and he
- 21:35Speaker 3: didn't play. He actually didn't. Parry Nickerson went up despite
- 21:39Speaker 3: the injury to Mitchell. Parry Nickerson, they were down to
- 21:41Speaker 3: him as the only backup. He did not play on defense,
- 21:43Speaker 3: only played on specials. That surprised me a little bit.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean this was I wrote this on Philly Voice.
- 21:48Speaker 1: It was sort of the fan nightmare coming out of
- 21:50Speaker 1: training camp, is that the Eagles were basically starting their
- 21:53Speaker 1: number three and number four corner because Ja Cory and
- 21:56Speaker 1: Bennett is hurt and Quin Mitchell's out of the game, and.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Of course Cooper they were nicol A Lott, so Cooper.
- 22:01Speaker 1: De gene is in the slot. But I mean, that's
- 22:03Speaker 1: that's what Jackson and Ringo are on this team.
- 22:05Speaker 2: The third and fourth corners and they're out there having
- 22:08Speaker 2: a start.
- 22:08Speaker 1: But even still they're starting against receivers that are third five.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I mean, little John Humphrey was elevated from the practice squad.
- 22:15Speaker 2: This wasn't I can't.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Sit here and say, you know, well, the Eagles had
- 22:20Speaker 1: this coming because they were at so many injuries. I
- 22:22Speaker 1: mean that they had it coming because they've been skating
- 22:25Speaker 1: by and then their players, some of their players haven't
- 22:29Speaker 1: played great Ringo and Jackson got really put to the
- 22:33Speaker 1: grinder there, and that's I'm just surprised because the Eagles
- 22:39Speaker 1: are the ones that bully, They're not the ones who
- 22:41Speaker 1: are bullied.
- 22:42Speaker 2: But it seemed like with.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Each passing down, every scataboo carry, every Dart run and
- 22:47Speaker 1: occasional nice pass, it was just like chipping away at
- 22:51Speaker 1: the eagles pride and ego. It seemed like they were
- 22:53Speaker 1: losing it out on the field there and basically got.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Pounded into submission.
- 22:58Speaker 1: And I wrote on Philly Voice in my in my observations, Calumn,
- 23:02Speaker 1: I feel like the Eagles got a little bit of
- 23:03Speaker 1: a taste of their own medicine with Dart because this
- 23:07Speaker 1: is what Jalen Hurts has basically been doing to teams
- 23:09Speaker 1: for years if the throw isn't there, He's just been.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Able to talk, run slither through things like Jackson.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Dart is also not a very fast explosive runner, just
- 23:18Speaker 1: like Hurts isn't fast. He's not gonna win a lot
- 23:20Speaker 1: of forty yard dashes against like the guys run four
- 23:23Speaker 1: four four five. But Hurts has a really good internal
- 23:26Speaker 1: clock and he knows just how to maneuver you to
- 23:29Speaker 1: get you off balance. And you saw that on the
- 23:31Speaker 1: Dart touchdown run where he kind of pump faked. He
- 23:34Speaker 1: got Zach Bown leaning one way, then he cut the
- 23:37Speaker 1: other way, and next thing you know, he's in the
- 23:39Speaker 1: end zone. And credit to them, I mean, they found
- 23:41Speaker 1: a guy who can do that. But I almost felt like,
- 23:43Speaker 1: my god, the Egles are not used to lose it.
- 23:45Speaker 1: This is the way Eagles win games, not lose them.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Yeah, they darted some backbreaking runs just so on snapcounts,
- 23:52Speaker 3: but because they had to, Ty Robinson had to play
- 23:54Speaker 3: on defense because they were down at numbers. He played
- 23:56Speaker 3: twenty eight percent of the snaps nineteen snaps. Patrick Johnson
- 23:59Speaker 3: played a lot. He played thirty two of the snaps
- 24:02Speaker 3: on defense. In fact, I don't know how many times
- 24:05Speaker 3: has ever happened in his Curry actually played more snaps
- 24:07Speaker 3: on defense and on special teams, and he played a
- 24:11Speaker 3: lot on special teams. He had eighteen snaps sixte snaps
- 24:14Speaker 3: on defense. So yeah, it was it was just was
- 24:17Speaker 3: not a good performance. Uh. They they got a mustard
- 24:20Speaker 3: more of a past rush. Dart had some backbreaking runs.
- 24:22Speaker 3: As we said, it was just overall not a good performance.
- 24:26Speaker 3: It is also hard when you're down two significant players
- 24:30Speaker 3: on defense, it's hard to commentate for that. It's not
- 24:32Speaker 3: like you're getting better players off the bench. So right,
- 24:36Speaker 3: Blanket Ship, by the way, got hurt and then it
- 24:38Speaker 3: came back and then you might have seen it, but
- 24:41Speaker 3: he did. I don't believe he missed any snaps. In fact,
- 24:43Speaker 3: he didn't. Uh. I don't know if they's had anything
- 24:47Speaker 3: to do with it. Dejene only miss uh, let's see,
- 24:51Speaker 3: he only missed like three or four snaps, but he
- 24:53Speaker 3: was holding his leg. We'll see if they listened on
- 24:55Speaker 3: the injury report. But again they have a they have
- 24:57Speaker 3: a while to their off. Yeah, report will be Wednesday
- 25:01Speaker 3: for them.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Do you happen to see who replaced Blanket Ship? For
- 25:04Speaker 1: briefly when.
- 25:05Speaker 3: He yes, I did, well, yes I did when blanket
- 25:08Speaker 3: Ship went out. Yep, yes it was Marcus Apps. It
- 25:11Speaker 3: was not Sydney Brown. Yeah this this These coaches kind
- 25:15Speaker 3: of over Citney Brown as a as a backup, Like
- 25:17Speaker 3: he barely plays on defense and he's brilliant special scenes player.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Oh by the way, he had another special teams penalty.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Yeah, not great for him there. Uh yeah, this is
- 25:29Speaker 1: uh Listen, the real crazy thing is the Eagles not
- 25:32Speaker 1: only have to get right soon, right, they play the
- 25:35Speaker 1: Giants again in like two weeks, right they played him.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Uh not the next Sunday, but the Sunday after that
- 25:41Speaker 1: game the Giant so uh they they almost I know,
- 25:45Speaker 1: Scattaboy was already becoming a little bit of a of
- 25:48Speaker 1: a of a thing in the New York area, you know,
- 25:50Speaker 1: like last last year was it was the Italian quarterback
- 25:54Speaker 1: who was doing all the pizza shop things or two whatever.
- 25:57Speaker 1: But this is a real thing, like Stataboo. Scattaboo is
- 25:59Speaker 1: a good player who's gonna playing. But the Eagles sort
- 26:03Speaker 1: of allowed the Giants to gain a lot of confidence
- 26:06Speaker 1: and let the cult of Skataboo really start to grow
- 26:09Speaker 1: up in New Jersey and they're gonna this is gonna
- 26:11Speaker 1: bother the Eagle fan because this scataboo thing is gonna
- 26:14Speaker 1: catch on. You saw him in the postgame show, ripping
- 26:16Speaker 1: his shirt off and everything. He is going to be
- 26:19Speaker 1: a real cult hero out there in Jersey, not not
- 26:22Speaker 1: a flash in the pan like the quarterback was. And
- 26:25Speaker 1: that's gonna be really interesting for the rivalry.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Here's another thing that surprised me. Oj Lari played more
- 26:31Speaker 3: snaps and ouche it's a Darius Smith. Now, whether that
- 26:36Speaker 3: was planned or in game decision by Fangio, I just
- 26:40Speaker 3: didn't think that Olari be playing more snaps against his
- 26:44Speaker 3: former team. But yeah, that that's what happened. That's something
- 26:47Speaker 3: to watch going forward to how they're going to do that.
- 26:50Speaker 3: But and by the way, Trotter did play a little
- 26:53Speaker 3: bit on defense. He did play three snaps, but he's
- 26:55Speaker 3: a special teams guy for sure. So you know, overall,
- 26:58Speaker 3: to summon up, there's really, i mean the positives out
- 27:01Speaker 3: of the game where god I would say Goddard's usage
- 27:03Speaker 3: was good. That that's something they could hang their head on.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Offensively a lot too, despite the injury to calcul Terror
- 27:11Speaker 3: only plays seven snaps on offense. That surprised me that
- 27:13Speaker 3: for the run game where he's this kick a block,
- 27:17Speaker 3: the effect, they use grants and more, which boggles my mind. Defensively,
- 27:23Speaker 3: they have a lot to clip. You outline very well
- 27:25Speaker 3: the off of the offensive issues. Defensively, the passers has
- 27:29Speaker 3: got to be better. The back end. How he's got it,
- 27:32Speaker 3: just like Cleveland and Jacksonville didn't. They don't need to wait. Well,
- 27:36Speaker 3: I know it's either said than done, but how he's
- 27:39Speaker 3: got to get a corner stat and he's got to
- 27:41Speaker 3: get a corner. They don't need developmental quarter. They need
- 27:45Speaker 3: a veteran who can play right now. They need somebody
- 27:47Speaker 3: could go in there and play. This is just not
- 27:50Speaker 3: very good at corner opposite Mitchell, and plus with Mitchell's injury. Now,
- 27:53Speaker 3: and we'll see what the testing shows. The heck knows
- 27:55Speaker 3: who's gonna go. It is really bad right now at corner.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I'll tell you what we'll ended on this. The Eagles
- 28:01Speaker 2: play the Vikings next, right, that's at home.
- 28:04Speaker 3: I believe, No, it's at many.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Oh, it's back to back. But I thought they had
- 28:09Speaker 2: home road home road home road thing. But yeah, okay,
- 28:11Speaker 2: either way, maybe maybe it's good for them it's at many.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Okay, it doesn't really matter because if the Eagles, coming
- 28:18Speaker 1: off this loss, go and lose to Carson Wentz, I'm
- 28:21Speaker 1: not sure that the city is going to survive after
- 28:23Speaker 1: the Phillies complosion here, the city needs something good, and
- 28:28Speaker 1: the Eagles losing the Carson Wentz would not be good.
- 28:31Speaker 1: So but hey, if you can lose to Jackson Dart,
- 28:33Speaker 1: you can lose, and the Giants you can lose to
- 28:35Speaker 1: anybody they got.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Let me tell you the way that Greg said co
- 28:39Speaker 3: sell because you know, I asked us. I said, hey,
- 28:41Speaker 3: I watched it on TV, but what did the tape
- 28:43Speaker 3: look like? He said, Wentz played really well and he
- 28:45Speaker 3: was under control. The CAx are better, and he physically
- 28:48Speaker 3: looked good, like he's moving better. He was dying it boy.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Justin Jefferson spoke very highly of once. Can you imagine
- 28:55Speaker 3: how humilioning that would be if they lost it, it would
- 28:59Speaker 3: be their third loss in a row. Oh my god,
- 29:02Speaker 3: with the Phillies implosion and the terrible loss as you said,
- 29:06Speaker 3: and have that happen. But they've got time to figure
- 29:09Speaker 3: this out. And the staff is was so resilient. They
- 29:11Speaker 3: were two and two last year and people were wondering
- 29:13Speaker 3: what this team was about, and you know what they
- 29:15Speaker 3: would do after that. So we'll see. Obviously the rush's
- 29:17Speaker 3: clearly not as good, we know that, but they've got
- 29:20Speaker 3: some time. They've got they got to get in their bags,
- 29:22Speaker 3: out of speak and figure it the heck out both
- 29:23Speaker 3: sides of the football, the return game. Look, it's not
- 29:27Speaker 3: just one phase, man. You know. Sometimes it's a cliche,
- 29:30Speaker 3: but it's the truth. They've got problems right now, no
- 29:33Speaker 3: doubt about it.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Thursday October ninth, twenty twenty five, a night that will
- 29:38Speaker 1: live in infamy for Philadelphia sports unfortunately, and maybe it
- 29:42Speaker 1: can only get better from there. That is going to
- 29:45Speaker 1: do it for the Inside the Birds Postgame Show. We'll
- 29:48Speaker 1: have a lot of great content for the rest of
- 29:49Speaker 1: the week and then at the start of next week
- 29:51Speaker 1: as we continue to take the scalpel in the forceps
- 29:54Speaker 1: to this game and see how the Eagles are going
- 29:56Speaker 1: to respond to this going forward on the Inside the
- 29:59Speaker 1: Birds platf form for Adam Kaplan.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I'm Jeff Mosher. You have been watching the Inside the
- 30:03Speaker 2: Birds Post game Show.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Catch you all on the next one.
