- 0:06Speaker 1: Andrew Larson. Of course, Andrew comes to us from Larsen

- 0:14Speaker 1: A R.
- 0:15Speaker 2: S O N Home.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Services dot com, delv whatever six so eight five three
- 0:19Speaker 1: five forty three forty three. That's five three five forty
- 0:22Speaker 1: three forty three for Larsen Home Services. And now that
- 0:25Speaker 1: we are through the political season, we're done talking about
- 0:28Speaker 1: all that hot air. We're gonna talk a little bit
- 0:29Speaker 1: about cold air with Andrew. Andrew, how are you doing
- 0:32Speaker 1: this morning?
- 0:33Speaker 2: We're gonna talk about hot air too.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Oh oh well, I guess probably can't talk without the other,
- 0:37Speaker 1: can you.
- 0:38Speaker 2: No? I was all focused.
- 0:39Speaker 3: I was dialed in, like this is what I'm gonna
- 0:41Speaker 3: talk about, and that music comes on, and now I'm
- 0:43Speaker 3: like tapping my pen. Your you know, your choice of
- 0:46Speaker 3: leading music is just thanks what I was looking forward to.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Well, I do what I do my part, you know,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and it's trying, you know, kind of match the energy,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and you know, there's always you. You've always got such
- 0:58Speaker 1: great stuff to talk about. And Andrew as I'm taking
- 1:02Speaker 1: a look around out the windows and other things. I'm
- 1:04Speaker 1: seeing the leaves are off the trees, and I know
- 1:07Speaker 1: we're kind of in that period of transition and the
- 1:11Speaker 1: equipment known as a furnace is about to get a
- 1:14Speaker 1: workout for the next few months. Let's talk about the
- 1:17Speaker 1: important role that that insulation makes when it comes to
- 1:22Speaker 1: you out things like unwanted airflow, hot, cold, coming going,
- 1:25Speaker 1: those type of things. You guys really attack this stuff
- 1:28Speaker 1: at large stome services, don't you.
- 1:29Speaker 2: We do.
- 1:30Speaker 3: And I'd like to add that I am a furnace holdout.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Still Are you serious? Oh, I'm still holding out.
- 1:36Speaker 2: You know. All the wife's like it's kind of cold
- 1:37Speaker 2: in here.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I'm like, you know what, start the fireplace, you know.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Just you don't need to heat the whole house. It's
- 1:44Speaker 2: not that bad. We'll be fine. You know.
- 1:45Speaker 3: There's like a month or so you get every year
- 1:47Speaker 3: where you don't have air and you don't have.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Heat, and it's wonderful. Yes, and I'm.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Still holding out, but I'm gonna lose pretty soon here.
- 1:54Speaker 3: But yes, it is that time of year the furnaces.
- 1:58Speaker 3: It's why I said we're gonna start talking. We're gonna
- 1:59Speaker 3: talk about hot air too, is because that's the most
- 2:02Speaker 3: important thing right now. Because it gets cold outside, we
- 2:05Speaker 3: start heating our house, and like I've talked about a
- 2:08Speaker 3: thousand times before, when we heat air, something called stack
- 2:12Speaker 3: effects starts to take place in our house and air rises.
- 2:16Speaker 3: And something that a lot of people don't think about
- 2:18Speaker 3: is that when that air rises, every little penetration in
- 2:22Speaker 3: your home. So it's gonna automatically through stack effect get
- 2:25Speaker 3: sucked through things like vents and or outlets, and it's
- 2:31Speaker 3: a perfect chimney chase up your wall. You've got your
- 2:34Speaker 3: electrical wires running right up the wall, right into the attic,
- 2:37Speaker 3: and that's where a lot of them come from, is
- 2:39Speaker 3: the attic, and then down or plumbing.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Penetrations the same thing.
- 2:43Speaker 3: So what the biggest difference between what we do and
- 2:48Speaker 3: what other insulation companies do is that we educate. So
- 2:51Speaker 3: we want to educate a homeowner on exactly how the
- 2:54Speaker 3: home works. When a homeowner calls us and says, I
- 2:57Speaker 3: think I need more insulation, OK, perfect, we're gonna book
- 2:59Speaker 3: a time to come out, sit down and talk. But
- 3:02Speaker 3: then we want to run through a few questions. Why
- 3:04Speaker 3: do you think you need more insulation. Do you think
- 3:07Speaker 3: your furnace is running way too much? Do you have
- 3:09Speaker 3: a thousand square foot home and your heating bill is
- 3:12Speaker 3: eight hundred dollars a month, You know that's a problem.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Do you have cold floors? Is your home drafty? Do
- 3:18Speaker 3: you have rooms in the summer that you just can't even.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Use because they're too hot?
- 3:24Speaker 3: We see this all the time, So we want to
- 3:25Speaker 3: take a whole home approach and an educational approach to
- 3:29Speaker 3: really have a homeowner understand what's going on. Ok, why
- 3:34Speaker 3: are your floors cold? This is why your floors are cold,
- 3:37Speaker 3: and this is how we can help it. Why is
- 3:39Speaker 3: your furnace running too much? While that's because the air
- 3:42Speaker 3: is actually turning over too many times in your home.
- 3:45Speaker 3: So as that air turns over and we pull more
- 3:48Speaker 3: cold air in, now we have to heat that cold air.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And it's a vicious cycle. It never stops.
- 3:54Speaker 2: But what we hope to do is slow.
- 3:56Speaker 3: It, and that is through air, ceiling and insulating.
- 3:59Speaker 2: We know that we lose at least.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Sixty percent of all the energy in our house straight
- 4:04Speaker 3: through the ceiling, straight through the roof, so as we
- 4:07Speaker 3: heat it, it rises, it goes through all of the penetrations,
- 4:11Speaker 3: It goes through our sheet rock where we have inadequate insulation,
- 4:16Speaker 3: It goes into the attic and our addicts are vented,
- 4:18Speaker 3: and it goes straight out to the outside, which we
- 4:22Speaker 3: know is not where we want.
- 4:23Speaker 2: It to be.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So we have created a couple different types of attics,
- 4:27Speaker 3: and one we we've spent a lot of time here
- 4:30Speaker 3: over the past few months is coming up with the best,
- 4:33Speaker 3: the very best solution, the best way to attack an attic.
- 4:36Speaker 3: And we named it and we actually named it the
- 4:39Speaker 3: Ultimate Atdict solution. And that is a combination of spray foam.
- 4:44Speaker 3: That is a combination of chimney.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Flashing in the attic.
- 4:47Speaker 3: That's a combination of canlight covers, and that's a combination
- 4:50Speaker 3: of insulation.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So what that ultimate.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Addic solution does is we're going to put a code
- 4:56Speaker 3: of spray foam on the entire attic floor. We're not
- 4:59Speaker 3: going to spot are seal. We're going to put an
- 5:01Speaker 3: inch down across the whole thing. That way, we know
- 5:04Speaker 3: we know that every excuse me, we know that every
- 5:07Speaker 3: square inch of that attic is air sealed. What that
- 5:10Speaker 3: spray foam also does is it gives us an our value.
- 5:13Speaker 3: So it's like adding insulation as well, So we're air
- 5:15Speaker 3: ceiling and adding insulation or an insulation value at the
- 5:19Speaker 3: same time, and then we're putting insulation over it.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Now, if that's.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Too expensive, we do have a step down, which is
- 5:25Speaker 3: a hybrid ultimate attic, which involves some spray foam, some
- 5:28Speaker 3: spot ceiling, and some insulation.
- 5:30Speaker 2: So we've really.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Taken time to figure the very very best ways to
- 5:35Speaker 3: attack attic because I'm telling you, Sean, what we're usually
- 5:38Speaker 3: up against is someone coming in the home, peeking their
- 5:41Speaker 3: head up in the attic, taking a laser measure, or
- 5:43Speaker 3: figuring out the square footage and going, okay, it's going
- 5:45Speaker 3: to be this much to add some insulation. And what
- 5:48Speaker 3: I tell my guys every single day is you will
- 5:50Speaker 3: find homeowners who just wants you to throw some more
- 5:52Speaker 3: insulation up in their attic. It will almost always not
- 5:58Speaker 3: do a thing for them. They will span and a
- 6:00Speaker 3: couple thousand dollars to feel no different and to save
- 6:04Speaker 3: zero energy. Now, if somebody hardly has any insulation, obviously
- 6:08Speaker 3: that'll help mostly in the summer, not so much in
- 6:10Speaker 3: the winter. But we have to take an educational approach
- 6:15Speaker 3: to it so people understand this is the best way
- 6:18Speaker 3: to do it. This is what it's going to do
- 6:21Speaker 3: for you while you live in your home, and the
- 6:24Speaker 3: eye product of that is making your home more energy efficient. Now,
- 6:28Speaker 3: I mentioned last week that we've or last week or
- 6:30Speaker 3: the week before, I don't know, they all run together
- 6:32Speaker 3: these Wednesdays that we're shooting new podcasts, and we're really
- 6:36Speaker 3: trying to explain all of the different rebates that are
- 6:39Speaker 3: out there right now. Because there is a federal rebate
- 6:42Speaker 3: that has to do with the Inflation Reduction Act, and
- 6:44Speaker 3: Wisconsin was given over one hundred and fifty million.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Dollars to give away.
- 6:49Speaker 3: I know that sounds amazing, but not everybody qualifies. And
- 6:52Speaker 3: in this podcast, what we've done is we're breaking it
- 6:55Speaker 3: down so people understand what it is, who qualifies, and
- 6:59Speaker 3: how you qualify. I would highly recommend watching us because
- 7:05Speaker 3: we break it down pretty granularly so people can understand
- 7:09Speaker 3: what's available. So if you see ads out there saying,
- 7:13Speaker 3: you know, get five thousand dollars for putting insulation in
- 7:16Speaker 3: your house, and this and that that it is possible
- 7:19Speaker 3: you possibly could. It's based off of income, it's based
- 7:22Speaker 3: off of area. But we break it down into layman's term,
- 7:25Speaker 3: so somebody can understand it. And if you want to
- 7:28Speaker 3: know more, call us. We've trained all of our reps
- 7:31Speaker 3: on exactly how you get the money. We have auditors
- 7:34Speaker 3: that we work with that can do the auditing and
- 7:36Speaker 3: we can take care of it for you. So I
- 7:38Speaker 3: guess what I'm saying is.
- 7:39Speaker 2: There is money.
- 7:40Speaker 3: There's free money to fix your home, and we can
- 7:43Speaker 3: show you the best ways to attack your attic, which
- 7:47Speaker 3: is the main area where we lose energy and heat,
- 7:52Speaker 3: especially in the winter time.
- 7:54Speaker 2: And money.
- 7:54Speaker 3: So exactly and money, it's we like to say it's
- 7:57Speaker 3: a byproduct. We don't we don't want to go out
- 7:59Speaker 3: and say he replace your windows and say fifty percent
- 8:02Speaker 3: off your energy bill because we know that that's bs.
- 8:05Speaker 3: We know that that's not necessarily possible, and there's a
- 8:07Speaker 3: lot of factors. Yes, if your whole house is windowed
- 8:10Speaker 3: in storm windows which I have seen, and you put
- 8:13Speaker 3: new double pain argone or are gone filled windows, yes
- 8:18Speaker 3: you could save.
- 8:19Speaker 2: A lot of energy.
- 8:20Speaker 3: But most people don't have that. Most people have gas
- 8:23Speaker 3: filled double pain windows. That's what we've been doing for
- 8:26Speaker 3: like the last forty years, so we have well, there's
- 8:29Speaker 3: also other companies out there saying we can spray foam
- 8:31Speaker 3: into your wall and you're gonna save fifty percent off
- 8:33Speaker 3: your energy bills.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Well, if your walls.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Don't have any insulation in them and you put foam
- 8:38Speaker 3: in them, yes you will save a bunch of money.
- 8:40Speaker 3: But if you already have insulation in your walls, now
- 8:42Speaker 3: we're spraying fom into the walls. The one thing that
- 8:44Speaker 3: we know, and ask me.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Because we've tried it.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Actually make it worse because we can actually push insulation
- 8:50Speaker 3: around and create air voids. But what we do know
- 8:54Speaker 3: is that we lose a minimum of sixty percent of
- 8:57Speaker 3: the energy through the attic and we know the best
- 8:59Speaker 3: way to attack it.
