Speaker A: All right, so you said you're excited now. Is that just because I'm your best friend, or is it. Is it because we have a good topic tonight?
• 0:10
Speaker B: We have a good topic tonight.
• 0:13
  Speaker A: All right.
• 0:16
Speaker B: Mr. B is my best friend, so.
• 0:18
  Speaker A: Sorry, Mr. B.
• 0:20
Speaker B: No, I think there's. Hold on. Let's talk about this. Yeah, that's his code name. I can't give his real name. So let's talk about this for a minute, though. I think there's categories of good friends.
• 0:34
  Speaker A: Yes, absolutely.
• 0:35
Speaker B: I don't think there has to be. Did you say best friend? There doesn't have to be one best friend.
• 0:41
  Speaker A: That's true.
• 0:42
Speaker B: You know what I'm saying?
• 0:43
Speaker A: It's a very juvenile thing to say when you really think about it, it comes. It comes from back when you were a kid and you would rank your friends. You know what fucks with me there are. I think we all have acquaintances who. If we did, I freeze.
• 1:03
Speaker B: No, no, I'm letting you. Rock and roll.
• 1:07
Speaker A: Okay. We all have acquaintances who I think if we got to know really, really well, could have the potential to be, like, the best friend we ever had in life. Because we know so many people, for sure.
• 1:24
Speaker B: Yes. And there's a lot of good people that we know. Yeah, we're writing songs, bro, but you don't. You know what I mean, though? So, like, I honestly, like, you invest a little bit in it, but sometimes it's draining because you get that guy that has, like, all the games and he wants to hang out all the time, but he's really awkward, and you're like, oh, you know what I mean? But, like, just.
• 1:52
Speaker A: It takes a lot out of you mentally, to be around.
• 1:55
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 1:56
  Speaker A: Someone like me.
• 1:58
Speaker B: No, no. You know who I'm talking about, though, right?
• 2:02
Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. You threw me off with the code name, but L. Right.
• 2:08
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Cool guy.
• 2:10
Speaker A: I met him once.
• 2:11
Speaker B: Great guy, you know? Just. Just awkward. Just awkward enough to where you're like, man, like, we have great conversations one on one. But, like, when you're, like. As soon as it comes to an end, it's. It's the. It's just an awkwardness. It's like. Like, you know when stepbrothers went to hug and they just, like, didn't know how to do it?
• 2:34
  Speaker A: Vibe.
• 2:34
Speaker B: That's. Yeah, dude. He comes in like. Like, he takes that stutter step. Like, should I. You know, it's almost like counting. It's almost like he's counting, like, okay, yeah. One, two, three. Just do it. You Know what I mean?
• 2:46
Speaker A: You're like, don't even think about it. Just throw it away. Do it. No, you know what it is, is I get really in my head, and this just shows, like, how, like, socially awkward I am. Even. Even if I might hide it at times, but I'm really in my head about, like, am I gonna shake this guy's hand? Am I gonna give him a big old bear hug? Or am I gonna, like, grab his hand and bring him in for a hug? Like one of those. Or something in between. Like, he might have something. You know, sometimes I put my hand out for the, like, the hand hug thing, and that's what I like. They'll high five and slide and just throw me off completely. Like. And I'm just, like, doing all these weird, like. Yeah, it's. It's like I'm a record. Skipping or something.
• 3:35
Speaker B: I hate. I like the we. We.
• 3:38
  Speaker A: We.
• 3:39
Speaker B: We. We lock in the middle. We pull each other in. Yeah. And. And both wrap around. But we have an arm, like, there.
• 3:46
Speaker A: Yeah, that's my go to.
• 3:47
Speaker B: I hate when dudes. When you go to, like, you throw the hand, like. Like, let's hit hands and they. And say, give me a hug. And I'm like, yeah, that's what I was doing. But, like, I was trying to just be. You know? But I get it. You want some ball action.
• 4:07
Speaker A: I might. I might be giving you a red pill here because I do that when I'm too far into the hug and then you spring the hand on me, and I wasn't ready for the hand. And so. And so sometimes I will just instinctively, like, just slap it as, like, a high five. And then realize, like, oh, shit, that's not what we're doing.
• 4:33
  Speaker B: You know what?
• 4:33
Speaker A: Get that shit out of here. Come here. Give me a. Get inside this hug. So reframe that. When it pisses you off, Remember that. That might have been someone just getting themselves out of some stupid.
• 4:47
Speaker B: Out of a sneak attack.
• 4:48
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 4:49
Speaker B: Sneak attack. Yeah. Although I advertise it. Okay.
• 4:52
Speaker A: Yeah. I am just a magnet for the weirdest people in every church I go to. Not this one so far. Not my new church, but every church I've been to the guy who just. The pastors don't fuck with him. The cool guys in church don't spend time with him. You know, like, whoever that is, I. I'm gonna end up that person's best friend somehow. Yeah. Like, I don't know why. It's not like I'm a particularly nice guy. But. Yeah, I just I always end up being, being with those people. And then I get, I get categorized because of that.
• 5:39
Speaker B: Yeah, no, I, I, I, I get that because I don't know what it is, but it's almost, it's almost like you let them talk. Yes. You just, you're like, hey, you just want to be heard. And then all of a sudden, dude, they're like, I got a best friend. Like, no, dude, I just know you're a person that wants to like, get your story out. Yeah.
• 6:07
Speaker A: And I think, I think that's what it is. I listen to everyone and, you know, I'll joke that I'm not nice. I think I'm a very nice guy in general to people. And I think that's just more respect than odd guys ever get in their daily life. And so it really means a lot. Dude, this actually, this blows my mind. So first I wanted to say I'm thinking about everyone at B's Bible study. We were the whack pack for sure.
• 6:40
  Speaker B: Oh yeah.
• 6:41
Speaker A: Bo sun, freaking snacks, myself.
• 6:48
Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, like, you know, it
• 6:50
Speaker A: was all the, the real wackadoos.
• 6:55
Speaker B: I was, I was actually very, I liked it when. I don't know how to say his name, but bs yeah, the sky guy, I liked it when he was there. Dude. I loved when he would even go because he was just like, he had his own, like, you look at him, you're like, oh, this little perfect, little white guy that sings worship and you know, got the height, got the looks, you know, and you know how to build a house. Like a dude. At that time I was highly impressed with him because I went to his job site and he's like, yeah, we're building mansions. And I, and I'm like, wow, dude, I don't know if I have ever done that. I mean, now I can, but at the time I was like, holy shit, dude. Like, you're building custom homes. It's, it's all fucking building. I mean, as long as you got blueprints, you're, you're, you're solid. But I, I was still impressed with him because at that time I was in the super and I was just working for B. And you know, like, we were just kind of like, hey, we're going to remodel this kitchen. We didn't have blueprints. We had like a napkin.
• 7:58
Speaker A: Yeah, but like, but like, so that dude was cool, tall, good looking and like, I already said cool, but like, he was just like an actual cool guy. Like, not like, oh, he's fun to be around. Like, he was cool.
• 8:17
  Speaker B: He was quick.
• 8:17
  Speaker A: Fonzie cool.
• 8:19
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 8:19
Speaker A: And. And think about now. You're a different story. I'm not including you in this, but, like, think about the fact that that guy chose to hang out with people like me or Snacks or Bon or like, I mean, that's.
• 8:34
Speaker B: Who are you referring to when you say Snacks?
• 8:38
Speaker A: Oh, that was his nickname.
• 8:40
Speaker B: Oh, dude, isn't he, like, married to some other chick now?
• 8:44
Speaker A: I have no idea. I haven't hooked up with them.
• 8:47
Speaker B: He's got. No, no, but they always recommend him because he's like a contact in my phone. Like they. My phone numbers. They always recommended me. He's got a different chick.
• 8:58
Speaker A: Yeah, that. That makes sense. They were pretty.
• 9:01
Speaker B: Brightest bulb in the.
• 9:03
Speaker A: Oh, my gosh, dude, I. The funniest thing. And I. I do want to circle back to the story I was going to tell before I forget, but the funniest thing that ever happened with him, to me, I mean, he was always a complete wackadoo. So, I mean, every time he was around, he did something weird. But he started vaping in Leanne's house, and I can say that because she's passed, so she doesn't need to be bleeped. He was vaping in Leanne's house, and B asked him not to vape in the house, just go outside. And so he started going outside through the screen door, like every seven minutes maybe, and eventually be stopped in the middle of Bible study and said, snacks. You can be inside or you can be outside, like a little kid. Dude, it was so funny. But on your story, on just like being a magnet for the kind of odd people in the church, there was this guy who. He was really smart, but, like, had a. One of these guys who, like, could not control the volume of his voice. Really loudspeaker, kind of chubby guy, single, you know, all this stuff. He. I got. I got a.
• 10:28
Speaker B: You sure it wasn't a mirror? You was just in the bathroom staring at a beer?
• 10:37
Speaker A: I'm on acid. It was me. Holy crap. But I mean, he was. He was like a nice guy. He was a cool guy, but, like, not cool in the Ben Ben kind of way. But I got a couple coffees with him, and I never really, like, spent a whole lot of time with him, but, like, he was a writer, so we would talk about that a little bit, and I would just sort of like, say hi to him at church and got like two or three coffees with him and that was it. So he's moving away. He's moving to Orca island up in the northwest to work construction and, like,
• 11:10
Speaker B: up in Washington area or Alaska.
• 11:13
Speaker A: Okay, okay, Like, Washington area. And he's. He's. He got a construction gig up there. He's. So he's moving to Orca island, and it's his last Sunday at church, and he comes up to me while I'm. I'm wrapping up, like, cables on. At. On stage, and I'm kind of distracted because I'm doing something, but he comes up to me and he's like, hey, man, I just wanted to say, like, a year or two ago, like, I was really struggling with, like, suicidal thoughts and stuff. And the fact that, like, you were willing to, like, listen to me and hang out with me and stuff, like, just really meant a lot to me at that time. And that was it. Was it. That was the last time I ever talked to him. And it's like, whoa. I thought nothing. I didn't say this to him, but, like, I thought nothing of getting a coffee with you every once in a while or.
• 12:06
Speaker B: That's what I'm saying, dude. Like, you just.
• 12:08
Speaker A: You have no idea what people are going through, especially those outcast kind of people.
• 12:15
Speaker B: Yeah, Yeah, I know. That's what I thought you were gonna say. He was gonna come up and be like, hey, dude, like, because you talked to me, like, don't come up. Don't come to church next Sunday.
• 12:26
Speaker A: You know what I mean? You see me wearing a trench coat, you go the other way.
• 12:37
Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know, dude. It's. It is crazy. You don't ever know. I. I had a guy when I was going through my divorce. We were out in the job doing the surf park, and we just. We had to drive out to, like, the middle of the 40 acres to, like, look at something, and we're talking about surveys and stuff like that. And he goes, hey, man. He goes, if you ever need to talk or if you ever, like, struggle, I just want you to know, man, like, you call me. I was like, why you say that? He's like, I just felt like I needed to say it to you. And I was like, I appreciate that, man. I actually called him once or twice for sure.
• 13:17
Speaker A: Nice. Yeah, yeah. People don't. I think most people would. Would be there for you if you called upon them, but very few people throw that out ahead of time. Like, hey, dude, I'm a steel trap. Like, I respect you, you know, you ever have any problems, let's talk it out, you know?
• 13:43
Speaker B: Check this out. Louie, my boss did that he, we went to that conference, he was, hey man, he goes, you're gonna try and pull some, some tail tonight. And I'm like, ah. But I would go and talk to people and anytime I talk to a female, I'd be like, where'd you run off to? You go get some head. It's cool, man, it's cool. And I was like, nah.
• 14:05
Speaker A: He was like, look, was he being serious?
• 14:08
Speaker B: Dude, he was being dead serious. He was. Look, man, just so you know, if you want to do that, I won't judge you. My view doesn't change a view. And I'll never talk about it, not even jokingly. I'm a steel trap. And I was like, I appreciate that. That's not who I am. And he was like, it's creepy, right? Huh?
• 14:31
Speaker A: It's creepy when people say stuff like that, right?
• 14:34
Speaker B: Yeah. Not only is it creepy, but it's kind of like, do you think that's what I do when I'm at these things is just pull ass?
• 14:44
Speaker A: That's one aspect of it. It's. It's kind of disrespectful to your character.
• 14:48
  Speaker B: Yes, Right.
• 14:49
Speaker A: But at the same time, you know where my mind goes to two things. What kind of shit are you into? And second, what have you seen on these retreats before? Like have the people.
• 15:03
Speaker B: So I know, I know what goes down at conferences. These teacher ones, not like the mortgage industry ones. Mortgage industry ones. I mean like you're partying all night, you're throwing after parties. I mean, these after parties were all right, but people are in there talking business and everybody's kind of like on their best. They're fucking teachers at a teachers conference, you know, I mean, they're all like on their best behavior, you know what I'm saying? So like at the mortgage industry, they're like, oh, if we fuck, we get deals. Oh, if we like school teachers are they. They can't operate like that. We all know that. We all know I can't just go a facilities person or a superintendent and then they're going to give me all their work. I still have to go through a procurement company to get their damn work like the state. So like.
• 15:54
Speaker A: Yeah, and we all know. And we all know that the only people who can fuck teachers are 13 year old Mexican boys.
• 16:01
Speaker B: Yeah, that's true. Although I did look up that one that did it out here. That white girl, she's in a prison like in Glendale, which is only like 40 minutes away. I wanted to possibly write her. I did, I did. Hey, okay. Okay, let's see for a second. Huh?
• 16:20
  Speaker A: She. Toit.
• 16:21
Speaker B: She's. She's very pretty. I did. This was. This was a phase. I was like, ooh, she's actually very pretty. And if she, like, if she sees a future and she wants to change, like, dude, like, I could make that. I, you know, my girl.
• 16:38
Speaker A: So if she wants to change.
• 16:43
  Speaker B: So.
• 16:44
Speaker A: So this is how women get into the predicaments they get into.
• 16:47
Speaker B: You know what I'm saying? So check this out. I. I ended up finding an Instagram page where, like, girls in jail are like, like, hey, what's up? Like, you know, like, I'd love to talk to you. And, like, they give you. Because I have the app for the pen pal. I have. They give you their, like, number on the app, and so I'm like, so
• 17:08
Speaker A: you could just write?
• 17:09
  Speaker B: Yep.
• 17:10
  Speaker A: Oh, my gosh.
• 17:12
Speaker B: So I started writing a couple. Yeah. Once. Once we got into, like, life shit, they didn't really respond.
• 17:23
  Speaker A: What?
• 17:23
Speaker B: Like, I think they like it because it wasn't like, hey, girl, send me some nudes. I'll send you some money. I'll put some money on your books. Hey, girl, like, what. What? That tongue do I. It was not like that. It was like, hey, like, what? Like, who are you? Like, let's. Let's. I'd like to get to know you more. And it was just like, yeah, I'd love that. You're like, all right. You give a little bit about yourself. I don't ever write.
• 17:51
  Speaker A: You say something.
• 17:53
Speaker B: Yeah, so there was that. But how was your week, man? Dude, by the way, I want to let you know I'm excited about the night tonight because of the homework you did. I don't know. I know. I. You still came with this. This was impressive, by the way.
• 18:15
Speaker A: It really. Don't tell me how you really is not.
• 18:18
Speaker B: It's. I don't care how you did it. You haven't really done this before. You know what I'm saying?
• 18:25
Speaker A: It's just been a long time.
• 18:27
Speaker B: It has, it has.
• 18:28
Speaker A: I've come with an outline before.
• 18:30
Speaker B: You have? But I'm saying, like, yeah, there's been times where outlines have been given and you're like, yeah, I didn't do that.
• 18:39
Speaker A: Yes, I know. Well, you know what? I will say that we have a once a month book club thing at church, and we're reading a book by Alan Noble called How to Live well, and it goes through, I believe it's seven classical virtues. So these are like the virtues that, like Aristotle and Marcus Aurelius and people like that.
• 19:10
Speaker B: All right, hold on, hold on. Before we get into it. I don't want to get into it yet. I'm excited because I hope whosever room you're in, you're like, hey, come back at 12. All right, here we go. First of all, welcome to Pseudonyms, everyone.
• 19:29
Speaker A: Yes, welcome to Pseudonyms.
• 19:32
Speaker B: How was your week, though, bro?
• 19:33
Speaker A: How was my week?
• 19:36
Speaker B: So you went to your book club?
• 19:39
Speaker A: No, that's. That's this coming Monday. But last month we did the chapter on the topic that we're gonna speak about tonight.
• 19:49
  Speaker B: All right.
• 19:50
Speaker A: So freaking. Yeah, man. It's just. It's a whole lot of. Just day after day, same old thing.
• 19:57
Speaker B: Let me ask you this. In your week, are you learning anything? Are you listening? Anything that's edifying? Are you, like, trying to pick up a new understanding of yourself, looking at some. Something, you know, whether it's like, you know, I. I tend to do this, or whether it's like, hey, what did we learn from. From this story? Or this guy or this person?
• 20:19
Speaker A: Yeah, you know what? You're going to be really disappointed in the answer. I remember having a thought like that in my journal, and I remember, like, writing out, like, why the hell did I feel that way? Or why did I think that? And I had, like, a pretty good passage of, like, breaking down, like, why I thought this thing. I have no memory of what that was, but I remember. I remember it being a really fruitful entry.
• 20:43
Speaker B: We might as well get into it, because I feel like what you're talking about right now.
• 20:47
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 20:48
Speaker B: Lines up with our topic as well, and I didn't expect it to. All right, let's jump into it, dude.
• 20:54
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, hold on. How was your week?
• 20:58
Speaker B: My week was great, bro. So. Yeah.
• 21:01
Speaker A: You're always killing it.
• 21:03
Speaker B: Well, no, so, like, I, you know, I kind of told my boss, like, I don't know, maybe I brought it up in. In the last episode, but kind of told him, like, hey, dude, like, I want to be your number two. Like, you know, like, I can outwork these other guys, like, under the table. He's like, yeah, I know. He's like, yeah, maybe, you know, I'm kind of looking at that, too, in, like, six months, you know? Well, he said two years. Said it's not going to be, like, overnight. It's going to be, like a couple years. And I was like, yeah, but, like, start giving me the little shit. Give me your crumbs to take off your plate so you can focus on the bigger stuff. Yeah. It was like, okay, so he was like, yeah, maybe let's start doing that. So then today he was like, hey, put it on the calendar. Like, I want you here twice a week after work. Like, we. I want to. I want to sit down and start, like, going over shit with you. And we just. We just kind of shoot the. And then, like, I said, hey, you
• 21:56
Speaker A: ever gotten head from a realtor?
• 22:00
Speaker B: I said, you're actually, like, really good boss. And he was like, I appreciate you saying that. Like that. That's awesome. But more excited than that. Dude, I'm loving the Knowledge Project. Is that what it's called, the Knowledge Project? Yeah.
• 22:16
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 22:16
Speaker B: I'm loving the Knowledge Projects Outliers series. Okay.
• 22:21
Speaker A: Like, I don't know anything about it.
• 22:23
Speaker B: I didn't either, dude. I was just kind of, like, putting on, like, it just kind of came on. I was like, I mean, I'll fucking check it out. It rolled on after another, like, his regular Knowledge project where he's interviewing people, this one kind of just rolled on, and it's basically him telling you about somebody. You know, he has one on Rockefeller, but the one I listened to was on the guy who started Hyundai. Hyundai. The car. Hyundai, yeah. And, dude, like, just the way he lived, the things he overcame, the way he looked at things, it really has me, like, evaluating where, like, what I do. Like, yeah, I don't know, man. It was. It was great. Like, I need to take a couple things more serious right now in order to kind of, like, meet the deadline. I don't know.
• 23:23
Speaker A: Yeah, I've. I've said a lot, and I. This is a deficiency of mine over the last year or two as hopelessness kind of sets in. But I've always said, any, like, billionaire or really successful guy, if you get into what they thought about and how they lived and stuff, it's always interesting, for sure. It's always interesting to hear, like, how they start their day, how they think through problems, you know, And a lot
• 23:54
Speaker B: of it wasn't even that.
• 23:55
  Speaker A: Marketing.
• 23:56
Speaker B: Yes. He had a couple values. One was hold your name above profit, and the other one was money follows trust. It'll never be the other way around. Trust will never follow. Money. Money always follows trust. Yeah. And so just things that I'm kind of thinking about, like, he never missed a deadline, no matter how big the job was. And. But he was, like, going negative, you know, like, he was selling the land he had just to, like, keep people employed and ended up, like, creating the economy for Korea that it has. Like, he wanted them. He was the reason that The Olympics were hosted there, like, because of the infrastructure that he did for the dude. He was amazing. And the last thing he did was created a car.
• 24:55
Speaker A: Oh, I thought that was the dude's whole life.
• 24:59
Speaker B: No, he had a rice shop and then under Hyundai, the name Hyundai itself. Started out as a mechanic shop. Then. Then it went into construction, then it went into shipyard building and building ships. Then it went into, like, building in construction. It built dams, bridges, things that were never done. It had the highest, like, construction contract in history. Like, and he was just like, I don't know how to do it, but we're gonna. We're gonna figure it out as we go every time. And then, like, when they flew in Germans to do all the welding, he would take advantage of that and have his guys watch and practice. And then, like, they were able to do like 18 meters a day, you know, and then eventually, future contracts, he got the welding. And so, like, then when they would fly in other people to do certain things he didn't know how to do, he made his employees watch and he would watch with them. Like, it was crazy, dude. Crazy. Dude started out as a sixth grade dropout. Poor farmers boy.
• 26:14
  Speaker A: Wow.
• 26:14
Speaker B: And, like, fucking amazing. The last thing he did was started a car company because he was doing some shit for Ford, and Ford was like, we want to, like, just have you produce our, you know, transmissions forever. Like, we want to buy you out. That's all you're gonna do. He was like, no, dude, I like, I want to make cars too. Like, I want you to have me be your Korean car, you know? And they were like, nah, we're good. So he's like, fuck it, I'll start my own. That's. That's what he did, like, every time. Awesome story. You should check it out.
• 26:47
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 26:49
Speaker B: All right, Louie, let's talk about it. I love this. This. This was awesome.
• 26:54
Speaker A: What's your name, dude?
• 26:56
Speaker B: That's for you to say, dude. Why am I Louie Louis XI of France. As. As. As he was known Louis Le Prudent.
• 27:16
Speaker A: Ah, okay. All right. It all makes sense.
• 27:20
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 27:22
Speaker A: Well, damn. I never think of a name ahead of time. You're gonna. You're gonna be Donald.
• 27:31
  Speaker B: Donald Duck.
• 27:35
Speaker A: Donald Bren. Because when we were talking about studying successful people, I was thinking about Donald Bren.
• 27:46
Speaker B: All right, all right. So you are Louie, and I'm Donald. All right, let's do it, man. I like your topic.
• 27:54
Speaker A: All right, so we're talking about prudence, which is a word that I did not really know. I. Prior to, like, reading about It, I probably would have just assumed that it was wisdom, but it kind of goes further than that into like how you apply wisdom to your action. So I have a definition here. Aristotle defined it as right reason applied to action. And then, you know, a couple of prompted definitions were knowing what to do, when to do it and how to do it. And let's just see. Sorry, I should have had this brought up already. Let's just see what Merriam Webster defines it as. Just so we have a well rounded. The quality of using good judgment, common sense and self control to avoid risk, danger or waste. It means looking ahead and acting with care. And so this just reminds me of a lot of the things we've been talking about recently. I've been thinking about everything you said about your remarkable tablet ever since you explained like your whole kind of daily process. And I think that's prudence, dude. Like, you're thinking ahead on the day. You're, you're anticipating obstacles, mistakes that could happen, how to avoid them. You know, like you're, you're keeping an account of everything you've been told, everything you're supposed to do, you know, and I think that that's, that comes from wisdom, but is essentially prudence in action. You know, like you are taking the wisdom of everything you've learned and applying it to your action.
• 29:57
Speaker B: I appreciate that. Wish I would have heard that before I was asked the question. But when you hear the word prudent, do you think of someone who is boring or overly cautious or someone who's actually wise? I think prudence sometimes gets confused with caution or timidity.
• 30:21
Speaker A: And I think that's because we call like, like stuck up women prudes.
• 30:31
Speaker B: Yeah, well, yeah, it could be. So it's my one year anniversary today with, with Miami, and I stopped by her house and we hung out for a minute and she was, I said, I got my, my podcast tonight. And she was like, what are you doing it on? I said, I'm doing it on Prudence. And she goes, do you know what that means?
• 30:57
  Speaker A: No respect.
• 30:59
Speaker B: Yeah. I was like, hey, G. She's like, no, what does it mean? You tell me what you think it means. And I was like, well, I was going to look it up before, like tonight. And she was like, well, what do you think it means? I said, I think it means not like continue. Like when you're given something, you have to like kind of continue and see it through. I was, I think I was thinking of perseverance.
• 31:32
Speaker A: Okay. You know, I, I will say that came into play with the book I'm reading, he did kind of get into perseverance and fortitude and, like, kind of knowing. Knowing when to see something through to the end and knowing when it's the sunken cost fallacy and knowing when you should.
• 31:57
Speaker B: I was thinking. Yes, I was thinking fortitude, not so much perseverance. And then, you know, she kind of threw the curveball, like, now you can ask your friend. And so then I said, hey, G, what is. And it said, basically the definition. You said. Now, even after hearing that touching on something else that you kind of. That was brought up, I told her, that makes sense. I think this is what I was talking about. I said, that's why I don't take high risk, because, like, I'll take the short gain all day because it's consistent, you know, versus high risk. I even was confused after it said the definition. So I went back to, like, well, you know me, I play cautious. That's not prudence.
• 32:55
Speaker A: Yeah. And I think. I think that there can be wisdom in risks. You know, I think, like, applying the wisdom of other successful people in business, you're definitely going to take risks in business because that's how people have gotten successful, you know? So, like, you. You wouldn't be applying wisdom in certain situations if you didn't take risks.
• 33:24
Speaker B: So here's the thing, dude. I was. I looked up, there was a guy on Instagram, and he said, like, I'm being serious, dude. Like, if. If. If I gave you a million dollars, you know, how would you repay that? Double it back, whatever. Feels so good outside right now. Dude, my house is freezing. These kids keep it so low. How would you. How would you, like, double my money or steward it? And, you know, all these people answered. I don't know what they answered, but for me, it was like, I went to Claude Chat GPT. I was like, hey, man, give me a good answer. Because he said he's gonna pick three. It's probably fake, but it took me a couple seconds, and I wanted to know what was some good investments to double a million dollars. And it said high risk.
• 34:20
Speaker A: Doesn't it seem so much easier to double a million dollars than to get to a million dollars?
• 34:28
Speaker B: It does. It does. Because honestly, I can live on way less than a million dollars, and the rest can be working for me. You know what I mean? Like, right now I have money working for me in stocks, but it's like 20 bucks in whoever's making Grand Theft Auto 6. It's like.
• 34:53
Speaker A: It's like, whoever is making Chuck, can I Can I.
• 35:03
Speaker B: It's an Apple Netflix.
• 35:05
Speaker A: Can I give you my portfolio before you tell me what Claude told you?
• 35:11
  Speaker B: Sure.
• 35:11
Speaker A: Like, here's what I would do with a million dollars. Just to make it easy. I'm taking. I'm gonna split it up five ways. I'm putting 200 grand into oil and energy stocks. I'm putting 200 grand into a high yield savings account. I'm putting 200 grand into gold, 200 grand into Bitcoin.
• 35:41
  Speaker B: And.
• 35:46
Speaker A: They probably don't have one year government bonds, but if they do, doing 200 grand in government bonds.
• 35:54
Speaker B: Government bonds. I haven't heard of that in a long time, bro.
• 35:58
Speaker A: I think they only have 10 years now,
• 36:02
Speaker B: so you gotta stay in it for 10.
• 36:05
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 36:08
Speaker B: Okay, so what does a government bond do for you? It's so good that you're. You're willing to do one year.
• 36:18
Speaker A: Basically you are lending the government money for interest. So unless the government collapses, which I'm waiting on any day, they will, they will give you your 200 grand plus. Yeah, I think like 10% or something at the end of the term. And I think that's why the terms are a lot longer now, because they can't actually pay up like they have promised in the past. But I read a really great book.
• 36:49
Speaker B: No, they have to get another fucking. They'll have to get another government bond for that.
• 36:55
Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. It's a pyramid scheme. But before it all crashes, it pays off. I read a great book on investing and that's basically what the guy said. And he, he didn't have bitcoin, obviously. It was a book from like the 80s. But he. Maybe the 90s, but he, he. Sorry, fucking what was I saying?
• 37:20
  Speaker B: He.
• 37:20
Speaker A: He invests 25% of his portfolio in cash. So he has cash in a bank ready to go if he needs it, and it's high yield interest. 25% in gold, 25% in stocks, 25% in bonds. And he shows his portfolio over the decades that he's done this. And he showed that, like, okay, gold goes through the roof, the stock market crashes, government bonds crash, you know, the, the interest rates crash. So he's not making as much in his bank, whatever. He shows that the portfolio, over the long run, the other parts of it are making up for the parts that are failing. So like when inflation sets in and interest rates are really low on cash, gold goes through the roof. So, like, the gold profits make up for the losses in his bank account in times of prosperity. The stock market's going nuts, but gold is Kind of plateauing. But the stock market's doing so well that it makes up for the gold. And so like, over time, it all works to his benefit. So that's what I would do. Now, what did Claude tell you?
• 38:48
Speaker B: It was like real estate. Do some real estate. Do stocks, real estate. That was the high risk. But they're like low risk. Go with like, you know, I think like high yield or whatever. Like it was just low risk. It was just like, hey, go put in a savings account or. But yeah, so I don't know where I was going with that, but that is part of another question, actually. But I said all that because high risk for me. I was like, I'm not a high risk guy. I'm just not. Like, that's why I won't go out on my own. Because a lot of people I meet are like, why don't you just like, open your own company? And I'm like, yeah, that's not me. I'm a great number two. I'm a horrible number one. I wake up, it'd be raining outside. Be like, I just kind of want to sleep in today.
• 39:41
Speaker A: Yeah. And I call my guys on my lifestyle, you know?
• 39:45
Speaker B: Yeah, dude. And I call my guys, I'm like, hey, we're going to take today off. Don't worry about it. Now you'll qualify and be like, yeah, we're not going to be in there today. We're waiting on some material.
• 39:58
Speaker A: You've got, you've got business loans coming due to. You've got jobs on the books.
• 40:05
Speaker B: Do you really pressure, dude? Yeah, I work better. Sure. Like, I know, I know. Like, almost every job I've had, I've, I've, I've burned a day or two, you know, I mean, like, like I just showed up and I was like, not in it today. Not in it today. You know, we're gonna like fuck around for a little bit. Like we're gonna look at some shit. I'm not gonna fuck around, but like, we're gonna do like easy shit for a couple hours. We're gonna wrap it up. You know, I'm not breaking out the sandblaster today and the tent, you know, I'm saying, no, that's not today.
• 40:43
Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, that doesn't, that doesn't really sound like you're blowing off the day. Yeah, yeah.
• 40:51
Speaker B: I mean, dude, there, there were days where it was raining and I'm working inside, but I was like, yeah, we're not going. Yeah, it's raining. One lane bed with my girl.
• 41:05
Speaker A: It's so funny, dude, because, like watching like the progress of your projects and projects you've done in the past and like how quickly that stuff gets done versus when I was working at the community college, right across from my building, they were building a new building. And I mean, slow as molasses, dude. Like, it, it was already built. Like there was a full on building there. And the whole nine months, six months, six months I worked there. They were in there every single day doing something. It looked exactly the same when I left, dude. And it's like, I know exactly what that is, dude. That is the community college has its own like construction team that's like full time employed by them because there's always a project to do and it's government money and who gives a shit? Like, let's run out the clock on this thing, you know?
• 42:11
Speaker B: So they were employees of the, of the college?
• 42:13
Speaker A: Yeah. The college had its own like maintenance and construction department, so they just always had a project.
• 42:23
Speaker B: Some of my clients, They have like a maintenance division that is just like, oh, there's a problem. I'll get on the phone, call plumber right now.
• 42:38
  Speaker A: They call.
• 42:41
Speaker B: You know what I mean? It's like it's a clogged toilet, bro. Say, be here this afternoon. You know, all right, bro, whatever. I was at a job today and the guy was like, hey. Showed me a screenshot of his text with this facilities department. I was like, hey, drop it off. North northeast corner, such and such. I get a text back, guy comes over, hour later, he's like, hey. Guy sends him a picture of it on the cart. He comes over, hour later, he's like, hey, did, did so and so bring it over. I was like, nope, no, you sent that text. I thought he of him in the cart with it on the back. I thought he'd be here and I don't know, at least within five minutes maybe he stopped off and talked. I was like, nah, I see him since. So then like, he gets a hold of the guy and goes, oh, he left it at the front of the building, the southeast corner. I'm like, he did that intentionally, bro. So then I had to drag this big old block of insulation through the building. I'm knocking over tables. And I was like, I'm so. I'm so mad at this dude, bro. I was like, this dude's always the lazy man. Yeah. So, yeah, I, I'm one of those people that confuse prudence with playing it safe.
• 44:11
Speaker A: Yeah. And I mean, I think, I think that's part of it. I Don't think it's like, any one thing. I think. And I think that's why.
• 44:20
Speaker B: Well, no, because I don't think prudence has to be safe.
• 44:23
  Speaker A: No, no, no,
• 44:28
  Speaker B: no.
• 44:29
Speaker A: The reason wisdom is so hard to get is because it's just not something you can read and memorize. It really has a lot to do with listening and experience and living long enough to know a thing or two, you know? And like, no matter how, you know, like, they'll say, like, some kid is an old soul or, you know, that he's really mature for his age, but it's like, nah, man. There's just a level of wisdom you just don't get to. At 16, no matter how fucking mature you are, like, you're still 16.
• 45:09
Speaker B: I would have labeled. Who was that? Billy? Was it Billy Badass? No, you know, I'm talking Johnny no good.
• 45:22
  Speaker A: Johnny no good.
• 45:25
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 45:25
Speaker A: Do I know this?
• 45:26
Speaker B: It was very serious at church.
• 45:32
Speaker A: Johnny, like, no good.
• 45:34
Speaker B: Yeah, dude. Like God, because God is love, he has to also hate. And you're like, what? He's like, God loves baby, therefore he hates abortion. You're like, okay, guy do. Cool kid.
• 45:50
Speaker A: Do his and I initials. Do our names start with the same letter? Okay, yeah, I know who you're talking about. I hated that kid so much.
• 45:59
Speaker B: I know you did. I know you did. Dude, he was just, like, just all tucked in. Just fucking.
• 46:07
Speaker A: Yeah. And I just see him. There's just one. If there's one thing about me, I'm here to have a good fucking time, dude. I do not gel with those people at all.
• 46:19
Speaker B: Dude. I talked to him, like, a couple years ago.
• 46:22
Speaker A: Yeah. I heard he was in a motorcycle crash, and he, like, kind of wasn't a Christian anymore. And then I kind of lost track of him.
• 46:31
Speaker B: He didn't really come off as abrasive. I didn't dive, you know, I wasn't like, hey, what's up? What's going on? Heard you're not Christian no more. What's going on? You know, it was like, you know, like, how's life? What are you up to? Fuck. I forget. It was so kind of, like, brief.
• 46:49
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 46:49
Speaker B: And then he. And. And he was. He's definitely not in the state I am. When we had the conversation. So it was kind of like, I see you, want to see you. Yeah. In the city they call Long Beach.
• 47:01
Speaker A: Yeah. I heard later, like, way later, that his mom was a psycho. That, like, because she worked at the daycare.
• 47:13
Speaker B: Wasn't that. Was that a little half Asian chick?
• 47:18
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 47:18
Speaker B: I mean, I was just thinking about her the other day. She used to have a thing for me.
• 47:22
Speaker A: Of course she did. Who didn't?
• 47:25
Speaker B: She. I would pull up and she would just sit there and talk about her husband. And, man, all I kept thinking of. I'm not gonna lie, I wish I was a man of God like that, where I was like, peace be with you, sister. But I was like, I got a piece that could be with you, sister. You know,
• 47:53
Speaker A: I guess she. She worked at that daycare. I didn't even know she was his mom for a long time, but she worked with a friend of mine at the daycare. And one time my friend told me that, like, her philosophy. I'm totally gonna butcher this, because this was 15 years ago. But she basically said, like, her philosophy of, like, taking care of kids was basically, like, treat them like pit bulls and, like, throw them out in the yard and let them fight it out. It's like, all right, cool. Okay. I'm starting to understand this guy and his game.
• 48:31
Speaker B: Get behind that, though. I get behind that, though. Yeah. One dominated, bro. Prison rules.
• 48:40
  Speaker A: That's my rules.
• 48:41
Speaker B: You know what I'm saying, dude?
• 48:46
Speaker A: This autistic girl I know is still to this day, like, in love with his gay brother and, like, won't accept that he's gay. That sad.
• 49:00
Speaker B: Bitches be tripping. So let's see. Is prudence something you're born with, or can it be learned? What do you think on that?
• 49:13
Speaker A: Well, it's kind of like what I was just saying. Like, wisdom just doesn't come quickly, you know, it's just something that has to be learned.
• 49:25
Speaker B: So you're using wisdom with. Synonymously with prudence?
• 49:29
Speaker A: No, no, I'm saying prudence is wisdom in action.
• 49:33
Speaker B: I think wisdom is knowledge in action.
• 49:39
Speaker A: Let me go back to my definition, right? Reason applied to action. Knowing what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. Yeah, I mean, it's not synonymous with. With wisdom, but I'd say you're not prudent without wisdom, for sure.
• 49:59
Speaker B: But I think you. Do you think you could be wise without prudence?
• 50:05
Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. Because I think you could probably know the right thing to do and not do it. Yeah.
• 50:14
Speaker B: So you could probably give people great
• 50:15
Speaker A: advice and not live well yourself.
• 50:20
Speaker B: That's fire, bro. Because that's where I used to be. I used to be like, hey, you know, but my life was just like, in. In a closet, you know, so to speak. Not in that way, but. But hey, 20 bucks is 20 bucks. I don't think that's A lot to ask in today's society, like in today's economic like atmosphere. Like, I, I don't think that's a bad.
• 50:47
Speaker A: Inflation hasn't hit your economy. I could see that. I'm not, I'm not getting a blow job from a professional man for less than $55 these days. And I don't mean a professional prostitute man. I mean like a, A man who has a profession but just wants to sucked in for money. I got bills, so. So, yeah, so kind of what I'm saying is like, you're not gonna have prudence without wisdom. Wisdom does not come easily. I think there's degrees. I think some people learn lessons a lot more quickly. Whereas, you know, I, I think about like one of, one of the things in my life I think the most about when it comes to wisdom is like my relationship to gossip and how I've just, you know, for the most part completely cut it out of my life. I think that was wise of me to do, but I think it took me a long, long time to learn that lesson and it took.
• 52:03
Speaker B: It's also a big part of our show, so.
• 52:06
Speaker A: Not really. I mean, you'll talk, you'll talk about.
• 52:10
Speaker B: We're not saying their real names. What's up?
• 52:14
Speaker A: Yeah, we're like, not really.
• 52:16
Speaker B: I mean, we are subbing out their names, but man, that's why we sub out their names because otherwise they'd be gossip.
• 52:22
Speaker A: I just feel like we're telling stories.
• 52:25
Speaker B: That's how I feel. I'm just sharing an account.
• 52:28
Speaker A: I feel like gossip is a lot closer to like, hey, you know, our co worker cheating on her husband, sucking
• 52:37
Speaker B: dick on the side.
• 52:38
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 52:39
Speaker B: You know, 35 bucks.
• 52:41
Speaker A: And it's like, well, you know what, you know what, you know he said to him was frickin this. And it's like, yeah, all that stuff, conversations that happened in private that didn't involve me. You know, we're talking about stuff that involves us, but like, yeah, other people's shit.
• 53:00
Speaker B: We're protecting them. They don't realize it, but we're protecting them.
• 53:03
Speaker A: Yeah, that's also wise. Like we have also created a situation where no one's going to find out who we're talking about. So rationalized at all.
• 53:14
Speaker B: But what decision made.
• 53:16
Speaker A: But what I'm saying that that's kind of the number one thing in my life that I think about with wisdom. That was like, it took me a long time to learn that and, and I finally had to submit to like just being more wise with my words and you know, more wise with, like, wanting information from people and just all of that. And how do you think you could say that I could have figured that out at 16, but could I? Cause I didn't. You know, it's like I was 25.
• 53:50
Speaker B: Yeah. So it's like maybe I needed 25 for sure sometimes. Well, so I look at. I look at your experiences that you're building up as kind of. Kind of something that, like, not reassures you, but it's. It's data. That. That's the word I'm looking for. It's data. So, like, all of a sudden, and I look at this because, like, it wasn't until I was 40, till I was like, holy. Like, people actually think I'm a cool dude. Like, the way I am. Like, when I'm. When I'm me, like, people think I'm a cool dude. It's only this old broad that doesn't think I'm cool. You know what I mean? And so, like. Yeah, yeah. I think sometimes it is lesson based. But then on the flip side, you take someone like Rockefeller, for instance. Again, these are great stories, guys. Rockefeller, he learned his situation and prudence. He was very prudent. He kept a ledger of money going out and money coming in. Anytime he got, like, money for his birthday, he logged it. When he spent a penny, he logged it. And his dad would always try and cheat him, but his dad told him, like, I'm gonna cheat you guys, and it's up to you to catch me. And so, like, by 14, like, that dude was, like, working accounting already and, like, just knew that's what he wanted to do. He didn't settle, knew what he wanted to do. And he was like. But he was very prudent. Like the Hyundai dude. He went through a. He was like a. Some. Something high dollars, hundreds of millions, maybe billions anyhow. And this is back in, like, the early, early 1800. 1900s. 1900s. And he's going through and making, like, having everybody, like, cut their ledgers to, like, be cheap paper ledgers. Like, he went through and was like, no, he canceled all, like, the leather, leather, leather ledgers and was like, nah, nah. Here, here's a notepad. Like, we don't need to spend money like that. Yeah, it was like, dude, but we have the biggest contract in Korea's history. Don't care. Yeah, that. I think that's prudence. Like, you're being wise that I'm the dude with the leather ledger. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's me. I'm all day. I want to look good while I'm doing it. He was like, no, we don't care about that. But that's a big. And. And I think that's a shift. There's a shift in. In this because we're about to start training superintendents, people who know nothing. And the biggest. There's a big, big part of my open that's on appearance. We present ourselves a certain way for a reason.
• 57:01
Speaker A: Yes. You know, I would argue the. The leather ledger gives you confidence, that makes you do your job better.
• 57:12
Speaker B: I think a lot of it is
• 57:13
Speaker A: mental, and that's coming from someone who wouldn't do the leather ledger.
• 57:19
Speaker B: Dude, I cannot wait. What's next week's topic? Real quick? Alter egos. Yeah, I can't wait. I hope we refer back to the ledger and how it makes you feel. There is a thing in that. You know what I'm saying? Like, there are certain things, and as a client, when people show up and they got a notepad. I know where notepads go.
• 57:43
  Speaker A: Mm.
• 57:44
Speaker B: They go in the truck, drive around, you take all your notes on them. I have not been, like, specified in your folder in that notepad. You. You done folded all your other sheets back in front of mine. So because that's your fucking little notebook, you're gonna take it back to your office, and you're throw it on your desk, and then you're gonna try and look through the notes and piece them together like, that's a notebook. I have no confidence in that. But when you show up and you're like, okay, let me just send that to my email, Boom, I sent you a copy as well. That thing did that? It sure did.
• 58:27
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 58:27
Speaker B: I take it. I take advantage of technology to make. To impress you and make my life and your life easier.
• 58:36
  Speaker A: Yeah,
• 58:39
Speaker B: that's what I'm saying, dude. It's just. It's. It's. I love this shit, though, bro. I love this knowledge project guy.
• 58:45
Speaker A: I will say. Yeah, never mind. Off topic.
• 58:48
Speaker B: Let me. Well, let me ask you something real quick, because how do you think intelligence is related to wisdom or. Yeah, because it. I often viewed intelligence as wisdom before tq
• 59:07
Speaker A: I have thought for a long time and not really questioned it that intelligence is just sort of knowing something, whereas wisdom is more closely aligned to, like, prudence. Wisdom would be like, knowing how to act, knowing it's intelligence.
• 59:34
Speaker B: Would you say it's intelligence in action?
• 59:41
Speaker A: Probably not, because intelligence in action could just be an argument you don't need to have.
• 59:53
Speaker B: Well, there's different Types, I think of intelligence too. You have the guy that's more maybe read people. You have the guy that's maybe more street smart and the person that's like fresh out of like getting their masters but can't. Can't read a room, you know what I mean? I think. But I don't look as an intelligence. I look. Ah, that's hard, hard, man.
• 1:00:24
  Speaker A: Cuz I. I would define.
• 1:00:26
Speaker B: I don't look at all those intelligence. I define intelligence. It. To me, it's kind of like the goat debate with LeBron and Jordan. We could count rings or we could talk about actual impact. I look at actual impact when it comes to intelligence in the sense of that guy's highly intelligent, for sure. Yeah, I guess I do look at it because even the quirky dude, I'm like, they're like, as a scientist or something, you're like, oh, motherfuckers. Intelligent as fuck. That's what my thought is, you know what I'm saying? So, yeah, I guess I do view it as that subconsciously. What?
• 1:01:04
  Speaker A: Mom?
• 1:01:07
Speaker B: Oh, I thought someone walked in.
• 1:01:10
Speaker A: I've got the exact opposite problem of you. The I live with a bunch of fucking lizards who want it 78 degrees in this house.
• 1:01:23
  Speaker B: Do I got yell at a 76,
• 1:01:24
Speaker A: bro, I got yelled at because I keep the thermostat on 73.
• 1:01:32
Speaker B: I got yelled at like 74 is cold, bro. I'm at 74 right now.
• 1:01:37
Speaker A: Off. 73 was as high as I was willing to go. But you know what? You know What? Let me 73 on my side. Let me get you back on my side. 54 to you going to get. I'm going to get you back on my side. I got yelled at by someone who does not pay the bill.
• 1:01:55
Speaker B: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Was it your wife or your sister or her boyfriend?
• 1:02:00
  Speaker A: My sister.
• 1:02:04
Speaker B: I thought if it was her boyfriend, that would have been so awesome. Hilar. I mean, that would have been.
• 1:02:10
Speaker A: It would be like you would know
• 1:02:12
Speaker B: it came from the grill like that. You, you've been holding on to that dude. Good thing you got that out. I'd almost hug him like, hey, get it out, buddy. I deserve that.
• 1:02:22
Speaker A: He went on tour for about a week and what's he do? He plays drums in a hardcore band.
• 1:02:32
Speaker B: That's how he makes his living?
• 1:02:33
  Speaker A: No, he's a machinist.
• 1:02:36
Speaker B: Oh, okay, okay. Local band.
• 1:02:38
Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. And so they, they did a little tour through Texas and he was gone. And I had a dream that he came back and he basically said to me, like, dude, I Was, like, not even happy to see you because of what you did to my grill. But then I saw you, and I just couldn't stay mad at you, dude. And it, like, gave me a big hug.
• 1:03:05
  Speaker B: And.
• 1:03:05
Speaker A: And in the dream, I'm thinking, like, that wasn't really a nice thing to say.
• 1:03:10
Speaker B: Dude, I think you have great intuition, because I bet you. Sorry, I'm checking batteries. I bet you he actually felt like that. But he, like, he didn't say it, but he's gave. He's giving you that vibe. Like, that's the vibe you've picked up, but he's too nice to say, mainly because he lives with your sister. Parents.
• 1:03:35
  Speaker A: It's possible.
• 1:03:37
Speaker B: Yeah, it is very possible.
• 1:03:38
Speaker A: If my sister is to believe, be believed. He was over it after a couple hours. I'm the one. I'm the one who can't get past it.
• 1:03:52
  Speaker B: No, you're. You're right.
• 1:03:53
Speaker A: They've both. They've both told me, let it go. You're the only one dwelling on this. Yeah.
• 1:04:04
Speaker B: Like, don't get me wrong, though. I've said that because that's my lady's brother. I love my lady and I'm doing it for my lady. But inside I'm like, please stop bringing it up, because you just pissed me off every time you bring it up.
• 1:04:20
Speaker A: The other day, I was like, even if I could afford to just buy him a new grill, I wouldn't do. Wouldn't fix it, because every time he saw the new grill, he would remember how he got it. He would.
• 1:04:39
Speaker B: No, he would fix it.
• 1:04:40
Speaker A: He would remember that he got that grill because I fucked his grill.
• 1:04:47
Speaker B: You don't want to hear this, but he would. He would. He would. It would fix it. He'd be like, dude, that was too cool. And then you could just fuck your own grill up because now you got his old grill.
• 1:04:58
Speaker A: Yeah, okay. Anyways, Cash.
• 1:05:01
  Speaker B: All right.
• 1:05:02
Speaker A: I bring that up every single week. Gotta get past it. Okay. No, no. So. So we haven't really gotten at. And this is why it's gonna be a four hour podcast. We haven't gotten at, like, the difference between wisdom and intelligence. Because that is something I've. I've taken it for granted simply that, like, intelligence is head knowledge, and wisdom is more like knowing when to not say something. Knowing when you know. So, like, I guess when it comes to wisdom and prudence, I would say wisdom is knowing what to do. Prudence is carrying out the right thing to do.
• 1:05:42
Speaker B: Yeah, Yeah, I can see that. I can see. I like that. I like that. Can someone have strong convention convictions but still lack prudence, though?
• 1:05:57
Speaker A: Absolutely. Didn't. Didn't you just say essentially that you used to be like that? And I would say I. I was, too.
• 1:06:07
  Speaker B: Oh, for sure.
• 1:06:08
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:06:08
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's kind of what I was. I. I actually was. Was looking at. I'm like, yeah, like, even somebody just wanting to fit in with the boys might alter their character. Or, you know, like, they might alter their character. Not really act on their convictions. And, yeah, they're, you know, they know what's right, but they're like, nah, that's not. That's not the cool thing to do. That's not what they're laughing at. You know what I mean? That girl's ass. Yeah, look at that ass. But inside you're like, I don't want to look at that ass. Like, that's not cool, guys.
• 1:06:49
Speaker A: I mean, I would say this kind of goes back to, like, knowing the right thing but not acting on it. Because, like, there were definitely times in my life where, like, unmarried couples in our church would go on vacation together and, like, post a bunch of photos. And, like, me and. Me and a couple other guys from the church, we're all like, come on, guys. Like. Like, we all know you're. If you're taking a vacation together, like, you don't need to be doing that, and you don't need to be posting that. Meanwhile, I'm fucking my girlfriend three times a day. I'm feeling nothing about it. Like, it's a secret.
• 1:07:39
Speaker B: You weren't posting it. Yeah, we weren't posting it.
• 1:07:41
Speaker A: Sure, sure. And that was prudent, but. But the. What I'm saying is, like, I. I knew that was hypocritical, but in the same way that, like, I knew what they were doing was wrong, but that knowledge of what was wrong did not translate into action in my life
• 1:08:08
Speaker B: for sure. And so, like, you keep. You keep saying right thing to do. Right thing to do. Okay. Have you ever been. And this is a question you wrote down. Have you ever been right, but not prudent. And I honestly want you to open that up a little bit. Look, let it breathe. Double click on that. Maybe shout out to Shane Parish. Don't bleep that. Keep that in. That's a. I'm making connections anyhow. D. I want to. I want to understand what you're saying because you've said that a lot. Doing right. Doing right. And now all of a sudden, the question comes up, can you be right without being prudent?
• 1:08:49
Speaker A: Well, what's coming to mind would be, like,
• 1:08:54
  Speaker B: what, an argument.
• 1:08:57
Speaker A: Yeah. Like, you would be factually right, but being disrespectful about it or being aggressive or whatever. Then there could be morally right. Like, the morally right thing to do or the. God, I had the words for it. There could be, like, the smart thing to do. You know, like, there. There's, like, you can go left on this road, or you can go right on this road. There's no moral. Moral aspect of which direction you're gonna go, but you can be smart.
• 1:09:40
Speaker B: Like, justice without prudence would be legalism. Justice without prudence would be legalism. Break that down type Type thing. Like. Like, in the sense of you have justice, but within justice, there's prudence. Like, there. There is the. There is a moral code. You know, there is a standard, but without that, where you're not saying, like, hey, there's a standard. Legalism comes in. In the sense of, like, I'm meeting the standard. Sure. Not.
• 1:10:20
  Speaker A: Mm.
• 1:10:22
  Speaker B: You know, and.
• 1:10:23
  Speaker A: Right.
• 1:10:24
Speaker B: I think. You know, which brings up humility. I think there's a. There. I think there is a humility in prudence.
• 1:10:30
Speaker A: So in that situation you just brought up, you would be right, but not prudent because you're not acting wisely toward another person who you might want to get through to.
• 1:10:44
Speaker B: Yeah, for sure. I think. And I. I think I saw that a lot in witnessing some of the tactics I think, that are used in trying to share, like, I honestly don't think Mormons are going to heaven. I don't think they're Christian. That's just my opinion. I've studied it. And if you guys want to talk, we'll talk about it. That's not the point. But I always want to open it up with, like, hey, how can I be of service to you? I want to build the trust so that we can have some conversations. Some of these people go out and they're like, hey, Joseph Smith, he's a liar. You know, and they got these signs up, and it's like, joseph Smith lied. Check it out. And it's kind of like, dude, you burned any opportunity of even someone coming up and saying, why are you out here?
• 1:11:34
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:11:36
Speaker B: You know, I mean, like, you're like. You're removing all intimacy, and you're just kind of like, in their face, fuck off and die. Not really, because, like, the message behind it, but, I mean, like, they're just being trained not to look at that. I remember being like a baby, baby Christian and going to a Joel Osteen with the L osteen event with my parents didn't know who this guy was. Never heard of him. They were just like, we got tickets. We're going. Let's go. You need this. Me and Big country were separated. One of our first times, we were separated and I was staying with my parents, so I went. When we left, there were like people with signs, just like there are at a harvest festival, which now I get. I understand now with the human trafficking, I should look at those signs a little better, you know?
• 1:12:37
Speaker A: But there's signs. Human trafficking at Harvest Crusade.
• 1:12:42
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Like he's. There's like. I don't know, there's charges or something coming against.
• 1:12:47
Speaker A: Oh, shit. I didn't know that was him. Well founded.
• 1:12:51
Speaker B: Yeah, I didn't either until like two days ago. And I was like, oh, crap.
• 1:12:56
Speaker A: Like a lot of what Candace says is like, maybe, maybe not. We'll see.
• 1:13:01
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 1:13:02
  Speaker A: You know?
• 1:13:03
  Speaker B: Okay.
• 1:13:03
Speaker A: Anyway, so you go to the Joel Osteen.
• 1:13:07
Speaker B: So, yeah, signs and everything. I don't look at those signs. They're real aggressive. The people holding the signs are aggressive. That's not my vibe. We're not getting. We're not getting anywhere on that.
• 1:13:19
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:13:20
Speaker B: You're just gonna kind of like preach at me. You're not gonna discuss with me anything. I'm ill equipped. Been a Joel Osteen event. Clearly I'm mill equipped.
• 1:13:30
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:13:31
Speaker B: If I start quoting his scripture. It's not scripture. You know what I mean? Yeah. So Paul said it the office. So
• 1:13:46
Speaker A: have you heard Bill Burr's bit on Joel Osteen?
• 1:13:51
  Speaker B: No, I haven't.
• 1:13:52
Speaker A: Oh, yeah, it's so funny, Bill. But he just says, like he's all squinty eyed and he's like. It's like he's so full of. He can't even open his eyes.
• 1:14:01
Speaker B: Oh, I think I have heard that. Yeah. Yes. So I think it's, it's. It's all. You're. You're definitely right in that sense. I think it's for sure you could do what's right, but when not done in a proper way. Yeah.
• 1:14:24
Speaker A: Yeah. It's kind of like with my old boss, I was like, in every example I can think of, I was correct. And I did not act as though I was dealing with a stupid person. And if I had been more wise and prudent, I would have acknowledged in my, in my statements and my actions toward him that he is a stupid person. So like, when he blames something on me that was 150% his fault. What do you do in that situation when you're dealing with a very stupid person. Well, getting into a hole argument and bringing up receipts from your legal pad and, and everything about everything he told you, like, well, that's just going nowhere. It's just not gonna mean anything to a stupid person, you know?
• 1:15:26
Speaker B: Did you show them all that? Yeah, yeah, I'm the same way. I'm very similar. I got receipts. Don't. Don't put this on me. Yeah, like, oh, dude. We were doing the surf park. Our project manager left. He was done. So the owners like, hey, guys, don't worry, I'm gonna step in. I'm gonna be the project manager. I'm like, oh, cool. So, like, we're gonna see you every day. No, we still saw him once a week. And he came in, he was like. And he told me, he's like, hey, I'm gonna. He told me like, I'm gonna need you to project manage this. I'm gonna be with you, I'm gonna help you. I need you to project manage this because, like, we don't have anybody and I can't do it full time. All right. He's like, I'll give you a raise, you know, next, like, soon. Like, you guys are getting raises. Don't get me wrong. Like, I'm like, all right, cool, cool. I'm all hyped. He comes in, he's like, hey, what about this? And he's asked me a question. I was like, that's what I sent you an email about. And he was like. And I was like, I don't know, I can't get a hold. And he said something. He was like, well, figure it out. And he. And like, I was like, all right. He's like, figure it.
• 1:16:34
Speaker A: Just figure it out.
• 1:16:34
Speaker B: And I was like, all right, I will. And I put out my hand and he took in like, literally. It was a 4 by 8 table, fold up table. He's on one side, on the other side that close, and he fucking throws him in the air. And I was like, I just stopped. I was like, we're gonna get one thing straight. You will not fucking be throwing papers at me. My hand was out, said I'd make it right. Put him in my fucking hand. You don't need to fucking throw them at me. That won't happen ever again. He was like, well. And I was like, no, no, no, no. Oh, well, you could have handed them to me. We're good. And I sat back down, put the papers together, we fucking went to work. He just sat there quietly. And then, like, my. My colleague, like, he looked at me, he was like, dude, like, he just turned his back and just, like, got on his computer. And afterwards, he, like, when our owner left, he was like, dude, I didn't know what was gonna happen. I was like, that was bullshit, dude. Like, I'm still a person, bro. Yeah. You know, I mean, like, you're not gonna do that. Like, that's disrespect. Who the f. Who the. Oh, yeah, I'd be the same way. Legal pad. Like, here you go. All right, well, and. And I'm doing this in front of people. Was it running people?
• 1:18:02
Speaker A: There was one issue I'm thinking of that came up several times. So one time it was in front of people.
• 1:18:10
Speaker B: Ooh, burned it on You Burned him down.
• 1:18:14
Speaker A: He didn't accept it.
• 1:18:17
Speaker B: So here's the thing, dude. I've dealt with. I have a. I have a client that's similar to that. He didn't ever follow up on my project for three months. Wouldn't answer my emails, Wouldn't answer my five. Three months. I never met this dude, ever. I'm just new to this company. Three months in, I see this little dude taking pictures inside my job site. I ain't got a hard hat on either. I say, excuse me, sir. Like, you can't take pictures in here. He's like, yeah, I can. He shows me his little badge, and he's like. I said, well, you can't be in here without a hard hat. He was like, you're. Who are you? And I was like, I'm. Oh, shit.
• 1:19:02
  Speaker A: I'm Donald.
• 1:19:05
Speaker B: I'm Donald. He said, you know, I'm so and so. I said, all right, well. Oh, you're so and so. Oh, dude. Like, okay. Like, you haven't returned on my emails. Yeah. And he kind of just like. And every time I talked to him, he had to, like, insert his intelligence. I'm sorry. And I would say, this is an example. We're gonna paint that wall white, that wall black, and that one orange. And then what we're gonna do, the floor is. And what are we going to do with this wall? Well, as I said before, that one black, that one white, that one orange.
• 1:19:41
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:19:42
Speaker B: So he did that every meeting with me, and I responded the same way as I said before. Or that's not in the scope, but I was very matter of fact. So his boss comes and looks at my job site one day, and she brings. The guy that's overseeing my project that's been there. She brings so and so and she brings, like, this other guy that's underneath her but oversees some of my other projects, and they all came on site. And I shake everyone's hand but his in front of her, man, again, that was my receipt. Like, this jackass don't do shit. And you'll know that because I'm not gonna shake his hand and make you think he gets credit for. For this project. Yeah.
• 1:20:26
Speaker A: I'm not gonna validate him.
• 1:20:28
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. He does not like me. Won't. Well, won't even, like, give me work. Yeah, like, that was a dumb mistake on my end. That was not prudent.
• 1:20:43
Speaker A: You can only see it was right.
• 1:20:46
Speaker B: I thought it was right. But no, dude, honestly, I could have shaken his hand. Still been the good graces. Got business. He's a client. I shouldn't have done it anyways.
• 1:20:55
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, this. This guy was very, like, very adhd. Like, worse than me. So it would be just like, you're having a conversation with him, and there's a whole other conversation going on in his head. So you're just. You're just like, okay, so, a. And he'd be like, right? So b. And I'd be like, nope. Yeah, nope. A.
• 1:21:19
Speaker B: Who's he related to?
• 1:21:22
Speaker A: You know what it was? He was a store manager for, like, 20 years, and he was up for a district manager position, but they gave it to someone else because he was not competent enough to handle it.
• 1:21:38
Speaker B: So he got. He got door number two, basically, to
• 1:21:42
Speaker A: appease him after not giving him the district manager, they put him in charge of my department. They brought him to corporate and. And put him with us. And even the vp who ran her mouth off to too many people because they got back to me. The VP was even like, we fucked up bad because now there's nowhere to move him. Like, we're not gonna fire him, but, like, we. There's nowhere to move him from here. And now he's fucking everything up. Yeah. So the VP knew that he was a mess. So I. I think a lot of. A lot of stuff was kind of like, ah, they know that's not my fault. All right.
• 1:22:27
Speaker B: All right. So if that's the situation, I do take a different approach to that. In that situation, I work with him to keep his ass out of not doing it wrong.
• 1:22:39
Speaker A: How do you mean?
• 1:22:40
Speaker B: If he ain't going nowhere. Ain't going nowhere. That niggas there forever.
• 1:22:46
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:22:47
Speaker B: So you're just like, now you're his, like, best friend? Hey, dude, we got to get this done, dude. They're gonna Ask. It's gonna reflect bad. Remember? I'm just trying to. Hey, just FYI, I do that with. With my boss. Hey, just a reminder who. We got it. We got to send in that bid today. I'm out. I did my part. Now. Now I wipe my hands. I'm clean. I'm out.
• 1:23:12
Speaker A: He was. He was very good with deadlines and scheduling, but then he would get his hands into my project, something up, and then blame it on me. So, like, I'll. You know, the details of it are kind of useless, but I'll make it simple. So, like, we. The stores had an iPad where they would order things that they were out of stock on. So we had to sequence all the items in the store in the order that the store is going to see them on the shelf so they can go through the list. They see something's missing, they click on it, they order it. So we sequenced all that on. On the back end in a software. So he comes to me. We did not sequence temporary items because they're not gonna be reordered. So we never had to sequence anything. If it was all temporary items, there's an end cap right by the registers that I had no idea what was even there before. He makes it up with all these seasonal temporary things, and he says, hey, I did all this already. Just take a picture of it, send it out. We don't need to sequence anything. All right, cool. I can do that right away, sir. I did it in 10 minutes. Three months later, maybe a month. I don't know. It might have been like a month later. He was like, hey, why didn't you. I'm getting a lot of complaints that all the old stuff is still sequenced there. And I'm like, what old stuff? And he's like, the stuff that was there before the seasonal items. And I was like, I had no idea there was anything there. You just. You. You said I didn't have to sequence anything. You told me to just take a picture and send it out. And he's like, well, yeah, but, like, obviously you should ask, like, what was there before? I was like, what?
• 1:25:06
  Speaker B: You.
• 1:25:07
Speaker A: Did you or did you not say the words, you don't have to sequence anything? He brought it up probably for the third time in my employee review. He brought it up. And we were in the conference room in the advertising department, and I was friends with the head of advertising, and he asked me, sorry, his office was right next to the conference room. He asks me later, why were you yelling at him? What were you guys meeting About. And I was like, that was my employee review. I. I just couldn't believe that he brought it up again after we talked about it so many times. And I just remember just getting like red faced and like, just screaming at it like
• 1:26:03
Speaker B: a little ginger boy.
• 1:26:05
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm not ginger, all right? People don't know what I look like. Don't say I'm ginger.
• 1:26:13
Speaker B: That's how red you get, though. You get red. Like ginger. Yeah.
• 1:26:16
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:26:17
Speaker B: Huh. You ever see two gingers in public?
• 1:26:21
Speaker A: Yeah. Usually they're married.
• 1:26:24
  Speaker B: That's bad luck.
• 1:26:26
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:26:27
Speaker B: For you to see them in public, really? Yeah, it's bad luck, man. Bad juju.
• 1:26:35
Speaker A: All right, what should I do? Some garlic or throw some salt over my shoulder or I'm just fucked.
• 1:26:45
Speaker B: The only way I've heard it to be broken now. This is just folklore.
• 1:26:53
Speaker A: Don't get me wrong, I'm not an expert.
• 1:26:58
Speaker B: Yeah. I'm not a doctor. I'm not. But I've heard it said if you yell bikes real loud, it does seem to fight. Fight it a little bit. Like, it. It's kind of just like, well, look, it's not really bad luck. Yeah.
• 1:27:21
Speaker A: Lucky for you I yell that everywhere.
• 1:27:25
Speaker B: I love that saying, bro. I had to make Miami watch it because I was like, you're not understanding. Is somebody stabbing that baby?
• 1:27:36
  Speaker A: Well, can they?
• 1:27:39
Speaker B: She like, wouldn't understand it. And I'm like, dude, this is like. I do this everywhere I go, but baby's crying in a store. So after, I don't even like the sixth or seventh time, you know, because I'm not shy about it. I know somebody I know stabbing that baby. And then she'll be like, baby. And I'll be like, can they. And then like, I do get looks. And she's like, oh, my gosh. One day I just kept saying it because the kid kept crying. It was like a 16 year old autistic girl. Yeah. Yeah. She's like, do you feel shitty now? And I said it like six times. So I was walking around like. Because it just kept happening. I'm like, where the is this coming from? Because, like, she would do it and then he would look over and like, she'd be totally normal. So, like, you wouldn't even. You don't even focus on. Or you're like, you just scan for a baby. You're like, what the fuck's going on? And then like two minutes later it'd be like. And I was like, what the fuck is. And you turn around and like, nothing's really going on. And I'm like, what? Finally I caught her ass. So then she's like, do you feel bad now? I said, no, they should have left the fucking retard in the car. Maybe with the air on.
• 1:28:56
Speaker A: Yeah, on Pet Mode.
• 1:28:58
Speaker B: I. I come. I come to get away from that. I'm here to shop. Enjoy me. You know what I'm saying? Like, this is Ross. You know what I mean? A little.
• 1:29:13
Speaker A: I thought you were at Target and I was gonna say, no, man, I understand paying the extra dollar to not hear screaming autistic children, but Ross.
• 1:29:26
Speaker B: Ross is a great place to be, man.
• 1:29:28
Speaker A: I love Ross, dude.
• 1:29:30
Speaker B: I found some great clothes at Ross, bro. I celebrated my one year anniversary in some Ross clothes.
• 1:29:36
  Speaker A: The whole fit.
• 1:29:38
Speaker B: Whole fit except for the shoes, the socks, the fucking pants, the shirt, dude. I was looking clean, too.
• 1:29:47
Speaker A: I got. My wife, I think, was trying to compliment me today, but then said something that upset me.
• 1:29:57
Speaker B: Oh, wait, was this something backhanded? Like, oh, baby, don't look as fat as you did yesterday?
• 1:30:04
Speaker A: No, you're. Well, you're actually not far off, but you're not gonna see where the backhand is coming from. She said. She looked at me up and down and she said, I think it's time for us to get you some. To go back down to a large T shirt.
• 1:30:28
  Speaker B: Back down?
• 1:30:29
Speaker A: Yeah, I used to wear a large. And this is when I realized. This is when I realized I never started getting myself extra large T shirts. This bitch took it upon herself to start buying my T shirts for me and then started buying me extra large T shirts. And then she said.
• 1:30:52
  Speaker B: I looked.
• 1:30:53
Speaker A: She said I looked like a cholo because my T shirt was so big.
• 1:30:58
Speaker B: And I was like, you won't believe what I'm about to share with you, but go on. And you were like, what?
• 1:31:03
Speaker A: No, I was just like, I'll buy my own T shirts, thank you. I didn't even know I was wearing an extra large. Like, how did this happen?
• 1:31:12
Speaker B: Anniversary gift I get last night. It's a bag. I open it, there's an extra large shirt in there. I don't look. I just hold it up so I can see what the shirt looked like. I want. Oh, that's tight. I said, is that extra large? That shit's big. She's like, yeah, they look like they run small. And I was like, that does not look like it runs small. If that looks like it runs small, I must be really big. I was like, I'm a large babe. I was like, but, yeah, that. She. It would have just steamrolled bro. Next thing you know, I'm over here looking like a cholo.
• 1:31:59
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:32:00
Speaker B: You know, thinking I'm looking good because my. My girl keeps buying me extra larges.
• 1:32:05
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:32:07
Speaker B: Meanwhile, I think I got room to grow, so I start eating worse. I'm like, damn, I look good in this large.
• 1:32:16
Speaker A: My problem is I'm just tall enough for my T shirt to, like, ride up my belly a little when I sit down.
• 1:32:26
Speaker B: Oh. So I'm sorry, bro.
• 1:32:28
Speaker A: Old Navy has a tall size, so it's same. Like, same width and everything, but just a little longer. And so the large talls were working great, and I'd say even the extra large talls were working great, but I lost a little bit of that gut. That thing is starting to look like a sweater dress or whatever you call that.
• 1:32:53
Speaker B: Well, dude, you. You now. You can now probably go back to a large.
• 1:32:58
  Speaker A: I think so.
• 1:33:00
Speaker B: I mean, the gut, that eats up a couple inches, bro.
• 1:33:03
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:33:04
Speaker B: You know, there's some curvature that's not like it's. You know, it's not like the earth.
• 1:33:08
Speaker A: I'm rapidly round, you know, rapidly approaching 190.
• 1:33:14
Speaker B: Are you really? Yeah, dude. That's good. I'm, like, at 204 now.
• 1:33:20
Speaker A: Nah, you've got a lot of muscle, though.
• 1:33:23
Speaker B: No, I don't, dude. People say I look like I'm built, and then I lift up my shirt, and they're like, damn. Do you actually hold it? I don't know.
• 1:33:31
  Speaker A: Okay.
• 1:33:31
Speaker B: That doesn't look the same. I say, I know, man. Look like I'm like, I got some muscle. No, man, those are boobs. It's just high fat.
• 1:33:37
Speaker A: Okay, so you're seven pounds heavier than me. If we had an arm wrestle, who do you think I'll beat the fuck out of you? Yeah, exactly.
• 1:33:48
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 1:33:48
Speaker A: So you have no muscle.
• 1:33:50
Speaker B: I got dad strength, bro.
• 1:33:52
Speaker A: What the. Does that mean muscles? Muscle. It's not. It's not strength from fat, you idiot. That's.
• 1:34:00
Speaker B: Some people got gym muscles, bro. Some people got gym muscle. I like. Here's this. Here. Okay, so this college student I hired as a temp laborer, I knew him. He was an athlete. Like, K was a baseball player. Good shape. He only needed work for the summer when he was home, and I would just hire him every summer. And this other kid, kind of a little gang member, you know, but worked his ass off, and I could trust him, and he would get shit done. He was just thankful that I kept having him come back. So I said, hey, third floor. There's a glass door up there. Bring it down, just throw it in the dumpster. So, like, all right, cool. About 10 minutes goes by, they come back down. They say, hey, man, we can't lift that door. We've tried everything. I was like, man, bullshit. They're like, no, we tried everything. So I went up there, grabbed it by the fucking handle, put it on my hip, and fucking just stood up. They're like, no shit. That's dad strength. That's not dash strength. That's leverage. Like, you just have to. A lot of it's leverage, like arm wrestling. You're going to pull fucking from your fucking down to your. Your side rib. Fucking muscle, you know, I'm saying my shit is insulated, but I feel like it's there somewhere deep down. I feel like it's there. Dude, I got a gut, bro. I think, like, my boss made fun of me all day today. Yep. He was like, oh, look at, like over here eating all the candy up.
• 1:35:40
  Speaker A: What a.
• 1:35:41
  Speaker B: No, don't.
• 1:35:42
Speaker A: What a gay thing to concern yourself with another man's appearance. I don't know why that rubs me.
• 1:35:51
Speaker B: We. We make fun of each one of us because each one of us is like average size when we're living life, right? But then like when we're eating shitty. Oh, yeah. Like, the dude that's getting married in two months was sitting there like a month ago, popping little Kit Kats. Popping chocolate. Chocolate. I was like, dude, now that you put a ring on her finger, like, to be like, you are just eating like you. Like, you have no care in the fucking world, dude. Like, care for. Like you gave her the bait and switch, bro. She. She started dating you at 150 and you're at like 215.
• 1:36:33
  Speaker A: Jeez.
• 1:36:35
Speaker B: Yeah, dude. Dude, just throwing a badge. And now he's like dropping it like crazy because he's got heavy enough to where we all bet him a hundred dollars he wouldn't lose it by his wedding. And in one week he's lost £10.
• 1:36:52
  Speaker A: Incentive.
• 1:36:54
Speaker B: Yeah, I know, I know. Kind of pisses me off. Yeah, yeah, I'm over here. Like, Give me the GLPs, dude. So I stopped taking GLPs. I'm kind of fucked up, bro.
• 1:37:06
Speaker A: What is a GLP?
• 1:37:09
Speaker B: Sound like Ozempic shit.
• 1:37:10
Speaker A: You were taking that well.
• 1:37:13
Speaker B: I wanted to look good at the wedding.
• 1:37:14
Speaker A: You are nowhere near big enough to be doing shit like that, dude. That's crazy.
• 1:37:22
Speaker B: So I dropped maybe. But again, I tried small doses and worked my way up and I kept doubling them. But then that shit gets expensive when you take the dose that really works, you know, it's like 350amonth. And I'm like, that's. I'm not invested.
• 1:37:39
  Speaker A: That's.
• 1:37:39
Speaker B: I'm not investing that. Yeah. So I did the lower dose and it started to. I felt the curbed appetite. I wasn't hungry, like, ever. But then, like, now that I'm off it, do I get like sharp ass pains when I'm hungry and I get sharp ass pains when I got a shit. And I'm shitting like three, four times a day now. And it's like, like soon as it comes out, it's like you have soft clay and you got one of those play DOH things and you just fucking pushing it through, dude. Like, once it starts, it just keeps going, bro. It's like a broken ice cream machine.
• 1:38:27
Speaker A: I. I gained 40 pounds in the course of a year and a half. Long relationship. Talk about a bait and switch.
• 1:38:38
Speaker B: Was that with Bigfoot?
• 1:38:39
Speaker A: No, it was the one before that.
• 1:38:42
Speaker B: Oh, okay. I was around at that time. Yeah. There was a shift from you going from like, you like the average kid to like the happened. You know what I'm saying? Like, damn.
• 1:38:57
Speaker A: Thanks for asking me if I was okay. Thanks for talking about me behind my back. Not doing anything about it.
• 1:39:11
Speaker B: We weren't in that position, bro. I. I wouldn't know what to say, you know, I thought it was like kids nowadays, am I right?
• 1:39:18
Speaker A: You know, 22 kids.
• 1:39:26
Speaker B: I also. I don't think I was. I was. Is cognitive the right word? Cognitive of like, men and struggles and like, how to, you know, like really looking at, like, hey, how do we inch? Is it introvert? Introvertly. Kind of like take inventory and cover. Like let. Huh?
• 1:39:49
  Speaker A: Covert.
• 1:39:50
Speaker B: Intra or intro? Covert.
• 1:39:52
  Speaker A: Covert.
• 1:39:53
Speaker B: Totally different word. I think, like, look inside, look within, feel like that's intra or intro. Well, anyhow. Or enter. Enter perspective anyhow. But yeah, I feel like that.
• 1:40:07
Speaker A: Speaking of anatomy, I was laying on the ground today playing with my daughter, and you know how, like, your ribs stick out more when you're lying on the ground? I felt a weird lump in the center of my chest, and I can, like, find it now, and I think it's cancer.
• 1:40:41
Speaker B: She'll get checked out.
• 1:40:42
Speaker A: Yeah, I'm definitely gonna. Because it's like, prominent.
• 1:40:48
Speaker B: You've never been there before?
• 1:40:49
Speaker A: I've never felt it before today, but I was. I don't really, like, feel around when I'm lying on my back.
• 1:40:56
Speaker B: Does it hurt? Yeah. You should get checked up either way.
• 1:40:58
Speaker A: No, it doesn't hurt, but it Feels weird to touch it. Like, it doesn't feel right.
• 1:41:10
Speaker B: Yeah, you should get checked out.
• 1:41:12
  Speaker A: Definitely.
• 1:41:13
Speaker B: I hate to say, calcium build up and then you die in a month. You know what I mean? Like, I've had that thought. Like, who would I replace him with?
• 1:41:26
Speaker A: Because this podcast has to go on. I think stretch marks is a pretty obvious choice.
• 1:41:36
Speaker B: I was actually thinking number one.
• 1:41:38
Speaker A: Oh, yeah, she wouldn't want to do this.
• 1:41:42
Speaker B: Hell yeah, she would.
• 1:41:43
  Speaker A: Would she?
• 1:41:44
Speaker B: She was dying to get on stage with the big dogs.
• 1:41:49
Speaker A: I didn't get that impression at all.
• 1:41:59
Speaker B: I mean, like, inside.
• 1:42:01
Speaker A: Yeah, she was trying to play cool, not be over eager. All right.
• 1:42:09
Speaker B: Don't want to bust your wad before the date.
• 1:42:12
Speaker A: Yeah. What? Modern habits make prudence harder.
• 1:42:19
Speaker B: Oh, fucking everything, bro. Social media, watching television.
• 1:42:28
Speaker A: Yeah. I heard a really good podcast with a guy named. Is it Chris Hughes? I knew I'd fucked that up. His last name's Hughes. Scott Hughes. Chris Hughes. But he's like, a human behavior analyst,
• 1:42:48
Speaker B: and he did learn something this week, bro. That's what I'm talking about.
• 1:42:51
Speaker A: Yeah, I'll send you the podcast. It was really good. This is another podcast similar to the Knowledge project, that I think you would like a lot. It's. It's called Modern Wisdom. And he just has very interesting people on, like, that all the time. But he was talking about, like, what the news really does and, like, why. It's all about, like, getting you outraged and, like, why it's messaged the way that it is. And social media, he just talked about a bunch of things. He even got into, like, police interrogations and gave you, like, the five steps that a police interrogation is going to take you through. And I can't remember them, but it was like, they're going to, you know, they're going to socialize you, rationalize you this, that, and then kind of accuse you of something. And you've gone along with them on so many things that you're, like, lulled hypnotically into just agreeing with what they're saying. But anyways, he just talked about, like, you know, outrage earns more money because outrage gets us to act. You know, we. We like something, we comment on something, we watch a show. And he, like, just teaches, like, all the ways to spot, like, the imbalanced view that someone's giving you. And I think that's. That's huge in social media because it's just getting you hypnotically into a place where you're not able to think clearly. And it's designed to do that.
• 1:44:28
Speaker B: I wanted to call Them socialist because they're on social media. Influencers
• 1:44:34
  Speaker A: most.
• 1:44:35
  Speaker B: I don't know.
• 1:44:36
  Speaker A: Socialists.
• 1:44:39
Speaker B: But, I mean, I don't even know even now, like, where before people would come on social media and, you know, they're like, hey, like, what the news is not showing you is this. And at first you're like, this is a real source. But now you're kind of like, are they just mockingbirds also?
• 1:45:02
  Speaker A: Right.
• 1:45:03
Speaker B: You know, I mean, like, maybe they're still the puppet. They might be reporting real shit. But again, is it just what they want you to see? Because it's still drama.
• 1:45:20
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:45:21
Speaker B: You know, I mean, when was the last time you heard a good story? I can tell you right now, there's six chocolate companies investing in artificial chocolate factories. But I don't know whether to believe that or not.
• 1:45:39
Speaker A: Right. Yeah. I follow a couple things that are, like, just good news. And they make some pretty outlandish claims. And I've heard several times that, like, by the end of the year, we'll be able to get eyedrops that correct vision.
• 1:45:55
Speaker B: And it's like, yeah, I've heard that, too.
• 1:45:57
Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know. By the end of the year.
• 1:46:00
Speaker B: Yeah. It's like the positive. I. I think I know what you're talking about. It's almost like the positive things that happened around the world. Yeah. And. Yeah. And it's like, what was the other one? They said that I was like, holy, too, because they had a couple in there. Dude.
• 1:46:17
Speaker A: The artificial heart that beats forever.
• 1:46:21
Speaker B: Yeah. Or the. What's the other one? The fucking. I'm pretty sure someone cured cancer.
• 1:46:26
Speaker A: There's a million cures for cancer.
• 1:46:30
Speaker B: Yeah. Vitamin C. Yeah.
• 1:46:33
Speaker A: Literally. Mistletoe. Things that won't make money. That's why we aren't allowed to use them.
• 1:46:43
Speaker B: I do want to dive into the Antarctica one of these days.
• 1:46:47
Speaker A: All right. Didn't we talk about that before?
• 1:46:49
Speaker B: Rabbit hole. It's a rabbit hole. I'm here for it. I know. Is prudence mostly about avoiding mistakes or about choosing the best good?
• 1:47:04
Speaker A: I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive. Again, like, there's mistakes that have no moral consequence. Like, you wasted time or you took a wrong turn or whatever. But I think overall, in most situations, the best good is going to be avoiding a mistake.
• 1:47:29
Speaker B: Back up. Do you think wasting time is not. I know we know it's not prudent, but isn't it fostering a character of laziness?
• 1:47:45
Speaker A: No. Like, you can go to school and get a master's degree and then not be Able to do anything with it. You kind of wasted your time. But you were doing what you thought was prudent at the time.
• 1:47:57
Speaker B: Why you gotta go there? You know, I got a graphic design degree and I'm in construction. Why you gotta say all that?
• 1:48:03
Speaker A: My wife. Calls coming from inside the house.
• 1:48:12
Speaker B: I was catching strays over here, bro.
• 1:48:15
Speaker A: I know. Forgot you even had that.
• 1:48:20
Speaker B: He was aiming for somebody else. I'm over here like, hey, man, quit shooting at me.
• 1:48:28
Speaker A: I. I went to barber school and did nothing with it.
• 1:48:31
  Speaker B: Oh, pastoral ministry.
• 1:48:35
Speaker A: Yeah, I went to school of worship.
• 1:48:38
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I'm all out, dude. I went to seventh grade.
• 1:48:45
  Speaker A: What a waste.
• 1:48:48
Speaker B: You know, I feel like I could have survived off of six
• 1:48:53
Speaker A: once. You know, math and spelling, it's pretty much all useless.
• 1:49:00
Speaker B: So number four is learning fractions this year. Ugh, she's gonna kill it, bro.
• 1:49:06
  Speaker A: I could.
• 1:49:07
  Speaker B: You know why?
• 1:49:08
Speaker A: Because you're good at fractions.
• 1:49:11
Speaker B: But do you know why I'm good at fractions? No, why a tape measure?
• 1:49:18
  Speaker A: Ah, yeah.
• 1:49:20
Speaker B: I didn't learn fractions really until, like, working with B. Yeah. And then you're looking at a tape measure every day that has them, and you're like, now you hear fractions and you're just like, okay, I got to convert it to something that works on a 1 inch scale, you know, 16th, a 32, an 8th, a quarter, something. Yeah, yeah.
• 1:49:42
Speaker A: Can you divide fractions?
• 1:49:47
  Speaker B: I mean, I know there's a method. Nah, I got. I got a phone.
• 1:49:51
Speaker A: I'm getting sweaty just thinking about having to do that on the spot.
• 1:49:56
Speaker B: Yeah, I just like, oh, hold up. And I pull up my phone, and if they do it fast, and they're like, oh, look who went to eighth grade. Okay, let's move on.
• 1:50:05
Speaker A: Hey, did you lose your protractor, you nerd?
• 1:50:12
Speaker B: Where's your pocket protector?
• 1:50:13
  Speaker A: You.
• 1:50:18
Speaker B: So, yeah, I do. Well, I think. I think pru. I. I think prudence is not just. I. I don't think it has to do with choosing the best good. I think it's sometime. Sometimes it's in, like, the heart behind the intention of the action.
• 1:50:42
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:50:43
Speaker B: It could still be a mistake. And I think that's part of prudence, too, is taking that mistake, making it a lesson or making it something that you grow from. So I don't. I think within prudence, there's a history of mistakes.
• 1:51:00
  Speaker A: Mm.
• 1:51:02
Speaker B: Not necessarily all the same, but in some way, you can relate one of your past mistakes to possibly what's coming ahead. You know what I mean? Like, and sometimes I've had Mistakes give me a heads up to be more aware of. Not just that, but that and that as well, which I didn't really think about before, but now I'm really thinking about it because I hit them as I had the mistake of hitting that.
• 1:51:28
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:51:29
Speaker B: You know, so I think sometimes, yeah, I think mistakes are kind of necessary. They're part of the data that you pull from.
• 1:51:36
Speaker A: Yeah. I think that all builds wisdom.
• 1:51:41
Speaker B: Mm. And this is kind of where I was. I kind of wanted to talk about that Chung guy that started Hyundai again. He was very prudent with. With the finances that he had. He made sure he hit his deadline, and that's where he was basically like, hey, I take my name over profit. I'll take a loss, but as long as I meet my deadline, when I told them they were going to have it, they're going to have it. And then he made sure he had trust first. Before, like. Like having, like, they knew when they bet on him he was who he said he was. He was never going to leave because it didn't make sense on paper, you know, after. Because again, they would switch regimes and taxes would go up. There'd be a coup. And then, like, you know, private owners, private, you know, private, like, sellers and shit would be affected drastically. So here was a guy that was just kind of like, hey, I need to earn their respect and the only thing that I could do is my name, which. But with that came a lot of mistakes. I mean, the dude fucking ended up selling his land, just keep his employees paid. Do you think prudence affects how you parent and what goes on in your marriage and work, etcetera?
• 1:53:06
Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, I think it should just affect everything. I think that whenever there's a choice to be made and, you know, I
• 1:53:17
Speaker B: think it's part of character.
• 1:53:18
Speaker A: Yeah. It kind of has to be bigger choices too, because it's like you can't. You know, I know I keep using this analogy, but, like, you can't sit at a. At an intersection and like, endlessly debate whether you should go left or right. Like, some things do have to be gut decisions or, you know, outside advice.
• 1:53:37
Speaker B: Yeah. But I think that. I think that comes with the data as well. Yeah, like. Because I thought about that. Like, I respond quickly in work situations, but that's because the data, I have them on certain work situations, I can't. You only have to set off one fire alarm before you know how to fucking turn off a fire riser within two minutes. You know what I'm saying?
• 1:53:58
Speaker A: I know that story.
• 1:53:59
Speaker B: Like I'm on a job and they hit a fire sprinkler and they were. I had it off. The guy called me the next day, he's like, you shut off that fire like riser quicker than we've ever had anybody respond. I was like, that was the first thing I looked for when I started this job. Like for years. I went and found the fire riser first because I remember that night and I never want to relive it again.
• 1:54:25
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:54:25
Speaker B: So it's like, okay, if something happened, you're working around fire. Oh shit, let me go get something.
• 1:54:31
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I mean, like how. Yeah, I, I kind of view it as like anytime we have to make a decision, you know, that's not going to be a gut decision. Like what career you're gonna go into is not gonna be an on the fly decision that you make based on previous data. You know, that is something that's gonna take thought, it's gonna take deliberation. It's gonna take, you know, making a choice and sticking with it for a while, even if it doesn't seem to be working because you've made your choice. And don't let you know present circumstances get you, you know, to confusing you about what you've chosen already. You know, like, you can't be wishy washy in that.
• 1:55:20
Speaker B: That reminds me of a book I'm reading that Alpha Ways of the Superior Man. The Way of the Superior man or whatever. Yeah. And it's not just about men. Again, I have to give that, that disclaimer. It's just about if the, even if it's two females, there's an Alpha in the relationship. And, but he says like, hey, take, take the one under your care in my situation. Your partner, your wife, your girlfriend. Take her opinion, take her info, you know, have that discussion. But at the end of the day, you're the one that has to make the decision for your relationships and you have to stand by it. And not only that, but like, even if it, maybe she swayed you
• 1:56:09
  Speaker A: or
• 1:56:10
Speaker B: even if she doesn't sway you, like, you at the end of the day have to own that, but build her trust in the fact that you're going to be making those decisions. So don't just go with what she says, but if you do own it, own that as well, like it's yours and don't put it on her. You know, it was. But that's what that kind of reminded me of is like taking those errors and being like, yeah, I'm gonna fucking own up to that. Yeah. I thought you were talking about something else, tell you the truth.
• 1:56:40
  Speaker A: What?
• 1:56:42
  Speaker B: I don't know.
• 1:56:45
  Speaker A: You don't know?
• 1:56:46
Speaker B: I thought your comment was something else, and then I went on that and I was like, well, fuck, just tie it back in. So, yeah.
• 1:56:51
Speaker A: Thought you said you thought I was saying something else.
• 1:56:55
Speaker B: I thought that comment based off of something else you were referencing and not what we were talking about.
• 1:57:01
Speaker A: No. Yeah. I mean, I just. I just see it as, like, the big decisions are gonna require prudence and, you know, thinking things out, and that should not be exclusive to just parenting or just marriage or just career.
• 1:57:17
Speaker B: Well, that's why I think it's a. It's a. It's a way of life. Like, are you picking up the trash when no one's looking? Are you picking the trash when people see you? Yeah. You know, and not saying, but I. I feel it's hand in hand with, like, integrity and shit like that. Like, it's something, if you have it, that's part of your character.
• 1:57:34
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:57:35
Speaker B: Everybody gets it. Yeah. Just how you kind of steer your ship, if you will.
• 1:57:40
Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I would say that you'd probably like this book, but honestly, just probably getting into each virtue like this, like we're doing would probably be more beneficial than the. The book, because it's a pretty elementary book.
• 1:57:58
Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. Bernays, Brown, Atlas of the Heart. I was so excited to get that. And then I open it up and it's like, hey, like, you should understand your feelings. And as she does, you know, she gets her background and how she came along on this. This book idea and the research for it, and then it's just like, if you're angry, this is what anger is. And it's different from jealousy because jealousy. And it's just explaining how you feel, which is great. If you, like, aren't really good with words and you want to be able to better describe your emotions and it's not just how happy, angry, or. Okay. And you. You want to know if it's like, man, I'm. I'm envious or I'm jealous, it's great for that. But I was kind of disappointed in the same way I was kind of hoping for more. And then, like, each one is maybe a paragraph, and they're kind of just sporadic over these pages. It's not really like a book book.
• 1:59:08
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 1:59:10
Speaker B: So felt a little disappointed. All right.
• 1:59:17
Speaker A: What role does humility play in prudence?
• 1:59:24
Speaker B: I think humility is part of displaying prudence.
• 1:59:32
  Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
• 1:59:38
Speaker B: I think. I think humility is just wise.
• 1:59:42
Speaker A: Yes. But also, like, okay, I've got a big decision to make. I've got to deliberate. I've got a, you know, stick with it. I've got all these things that are kind of prudent. I have to have the humility to acknowledge that I could make a mistake. Therefore, I have to take these, you know, steps of caution, if you will, to kind of make sure I'm making the right decision. It would be, like, a lack of humility to say, like, well, I definitely know what's best, so I'm just gonna make a quick decision. You know,
• 2:00:24
Speaker B: Here's how I look at that. Actually, there could be that guy that was like, here, I know what's best. Boom. Nails. I think it's the afterward that would be a mark of his humility. Like, if afterward they were like, dude, like, that was a good decision. He's like, of course it fucking was. This is what I do.
• 2:00:48
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 2:00:49
Speaker B: Or if he was like, you know what? I was just fortunate enough to, you know, be in this position before or, you know, know a little bit more in this. This department. I don't know.
• 2:01:05
Speaker A: Yeah. Well, I've got some illustrations.
• 2:01:13
Speaker B: Did you let me hear them?
• 2:01:14
Speaker A: Did you take a look at these?
• 2:01:18
  Speaker B: I did, but I did and I didn't.
• 2:01:20
  Speaker A: Okay.
• 2:01:20
  Speaker B: I perused them.
• 2:01:21
  Speaker A: Perfect.
• 2:01:22
Speaker B: I did not dive into them.
• 2:01:23
Speaker A: Okay. I just wanted to make sure none of them stuck out to you specifically. We've got the. The chess player. A beginner sees one move, a good player sees three. A master sees the entire position. And prudence is living, like, living life like the master chess. These are just kind of helpful analogies. I found that kind of explain prudence in, like, real world terms. So, you know, honestly, I. I again, I want to go back to, like, how you explained, like, your note taking and, like, your workflow with your remarkable tablet. Like, very much. I see that as, like, looking at the entire chessboard board and not just like, anticipating the next three moves or the next one or just trying to react to other people's moves. Like, I really see that as kind of like, you know, playing. Playing chess, not checkers.
• 2:02:33
  Speaker B: Thanks, man.
• 2:02:35
Speaker A: A farmer doesn't panic because it isn't harvest season. He knows planting, watering, waiting, and harvesting each have their proper time. Prudence understands timing. So again, we've got there, like, you know, patience. You know, some. Some things might be right at certain times, not others. It takes wisdom to kind of know, you know, when to do the right
• 2:03:01
Speaker B: thing, even in a different sense. Prudence understands timing. I'm such a Like, oh, I want it, I got it. I'm like, ariana Grande over here, bro. You know, I'm like, you know, it's like everything, like, ooh, nice hair. I bought it, you know, I'm saying. And to understand, like, hey, like, that's something Miami's always getting on me. I was like, oh, bought this necklace. I went and bought this today. And she's like, you make it impossible to like, buy you anything because, like, you just, if you're like, hey, you gotta itch for it. You don't say, like, hey, I gotta itch for this. You just go buy it. So it's, it's like, it's. It's frustrating.
• 2:03:45
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 2:03:45
Speaker B: I don't ever just let timing happen and say, okay, like, maybe give it a week. If I still want it, then I'll maybe review it. But I'm like, oh, you know what? I wanna, I wanna get that. And there's so many times I've gotten it. I'm like, why the did I buy this?
• 2:04:03
Speaker A: Yeah, Yeah. I got a lot of people in my life that are like, I can't think of a single thing this person needs. What are you about to show me? What is this?
• 2:04:18
Speaker B: It's the frequency thing I saw on Instagram.
• 2:04:21
Speaker A: The frequency thing, what it was.
• 2:04:25
Speaker B: Yeah, you'll see it now that we've talked about it.
• 2:04:29
Speaker A: What, what does it do?
• 2:04:32
Speaker B: Just plays certain frequencies.
• 2:04:34
Speaker A: Oh, like, like green noise
• 2:04:38
Speaker B: kinda. But I didn't know it was more related to chakras. I was more thinking like, maybe it does tune something. I don't know. I tried it for like 10 minutes today. I didn't see a difference.
• 2:04:52
Speaker A: Maybe it's a long term thing.
• 2:04:54
  Speaker B: I.
• 2:04:55
Speaker A: They have like different colors for each of the noises and the frequencies and everything. And I've heard green noise is like really good for like focus and attention. Like if you're reading, it's a good thing to have. I used to listen to brown noise when I meditated because it's like really low and like kind of humming and that's kind of nice. But yeah, I don't know if there's any real science to it.
• 2:05:24
Speaker B: So this is just like a constant same pitch.
• 2:05:27
  Speaker A: Ah. Okay.
• 2:05:31
Speaker B: That's all. Does you type it in and it gives you a frequency every. From everything from like zero to 4,000.
• 2:05:40
Speaker A: How much did it cost?
• 2:05:43
Speaker B: Oh, no, like 70 bucks.
• 2:05:45
Speaker A: 70 bucks. I love you, bro.
• 2:05:52
  Speaker B: Was half off.
• 2:05:54
Speaker A: I'm not gonna shame you. We've got the.
• 2:05:58
Speaker B: It came from fucking China.
• 2:06:00
Speaker A: China. Mm. We've got the Emergency room. The best ER doctor isn't the smartest doctor. He. He's the one who can quickly determine what matters, what doesn't, what can wait, what can't. Prudence is learning what deserves your attention.
• 2:06:24
Speaker B: Yeah, that's Prudence with your time.
• 2:06:26
Speaker A: Yeah. I think that kind of goes back to, like, social media, like we were talking about. Yeah. And then, like, you know, decisions you have to make at work all day. Like, there's things that matter immediately and there's things that can be done next week, you know, and you can't.
• 2:06:43
Speaker B: I've had weeks where I. I come home and I spend them on, like, Instagram.
• 2:06:47
  Speaker A: Mm.
• 2:06:48
Speaker B: And I just sit there and all of a sudden, like, oh, wow, we still, like, two hours. I've had times where, like, I come home and I listen to, like, stories or biographies, and I'm like, dude, like, it's motivating, you know? Like, I wrote a couple times this week. I was motivated to write a couple times this week, like, letters, and I was like, oh. Like, once I got it out, it was like, oh, I felt great, dude.
• 2:07:18
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 2:07:18
  Speaker B: So, yeah.
• 2:07:21
Speaker A: So, yeah, determine what's worth your time and determine what needs to be done now and what can wait and all that. I think this one's great because I was really trying to say this one, and I don't think I said it this well, gps.
• 2:07:37
  Speaker B: This is great.
• 2:07:38
Speaker A: Wisdom chooses the destination. Prudence chooses the route. You can have the right destination, but take terrible roads. There you go.
• 2:07:48
Speaker B: You pronounce that root. I pronounce that route.
• 2:07:53
  Speaker A: Is this prudent?
• 2:07:54
Speaker B: You call it ridge root.
• 2:07:56
Speaker A: No, I don't call it ridge root, and I have no idea. I would call it a male route.
• 2:08:05
Speaker B: Yeah, I was just curious because you said.
• 2:08:08
  Speaker A: That's so weird.
• 2:08:08
Speaker B: Prudence chooses the route.
• 2:08:10
Speaker A: Because I. I say route in every other context, except for when the word is just alone like that.
• 2:08:18
  Speaker B: Really?
• 2:08:19
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 2:08:21
  Speaker B: That's weird, huh?
• 2:08:22
Speaker A: All right, all right, then.
• 2:08:25
Speaker B: I do like that one, though. That one was really good.
• 2:08:27
Speaker A: Yeah, that's. That's kind of what I was trying to say, where it's like, they do go hand in hand, but, like, prudence is sort of like wisdom in action, you know?
• 2:08:37
  Speaker B: Yeah. The knife.
• 2:08:38
Speaker A: A knife is good, but using it to stir coffee, tighten screws, or shave with the dull side isn't wise. Prudence is fitting the right tool to the right situation, So that's good. Like, I think back, like, we kind of talked about arguments, like, just having intelligence but misusing it. And I think about, like, theological arguments. That I've had a lot in the past where it's like, I may have known some good things, but, like, applied them to polemics and arguments that, like, didn't mean anything, you know? And, like, I think back on when I was willing to have those arguments, I knew about 10% of what I know now. But now that I know, imagine how
• 2:09:28
Speaker B: bad you'd fuck them up.
• 2:09:32
Speaker A: I don't know. Now. Now, like, I know a lot more about theology or politics or anything now, but I'm completely unwilling to have the argument.
• 2:09:45
Speaker B: You're completely unwilling to what?
• 2:09:47
  Speaker A: Have the argument.
• 2:09:51
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. And that, I guess that is prudence. I mean, like, biblically, you wouldn't throw pearls before swine.
• 2:10:00
  Speaker A: Yeah,
• 2:10:03
Speaker B: yeah, But I think that's part of it. You just said the argument instead of conversation. Would you have the conversation with someone?
• 2:10:09
Speaker A: Oh, absolutely. I have conversations all the time, mostly about politics. Honestly, I don't have, like, a lot of friends anymore that are, like, super into theology. So, like, that's just not. Like, we used to talk about that stuff all the time, but that's just not. I don't have, like, a lot of people around anymore that want to talk about that stuff. Otherwise, maybe I would still be arguing with people and stuff. Stuff.
• 2:10:36
Speaker B: So I don't know what happened to everybody.
• 2:10:43
Speaker A: I mean, like, most people moved, so it's just life. Yeah. And I just don't spend a lot of time with friends, you know? And when we do, it's all just talk about kids and.
• 2:10:57
Speaker B: Yeah, that's your new. Your new politics.
• 2:11:00
Speaker A: Yeah, pretty much. Yeah. I think the kind of. The examples there are kind of whatever. And then the Alan Noble stuff is pretty specific to that. That book.
• 2:11:17
Speaker B: I feel like a lot of it is timing based. As I read through them, I think maybe one out of the. What is it, five or six that were there, maybe one wasn't timing based on. But all the other ones had to do with, like, patience or movement or like, to travel a destination or to. On a path is timing. Yeah, yeah. There's a long way, there's a short way, there's a right way.
• 2:11:50
Speaker A: All right, let's jump down to the closing question.
• 2:11:54
  Speaker B: All right.
• 2:11:55
Speaker A: If someone watched every decision you made over the last month, not just the big ones, but your use of time, attention, money, words, and relationships, would they describe you as intelligent or as prudent? I'm gonna jump right ahead of this and say neither for me. What about you? This guy was on Instagram for seven hours. That's not intelligent or prudent.
• 2:12:25
Speaker B: Intelligent. They say intelligent, but not prudent. I am very much like, oh, that's gonna make my life easy. Yeah, I'll buy it right now. I am not prudent, and I want the best of it. Like, number four, his birthday's coming up, and Miami was like, hey, we could take her to the Great Wolf Lodge. Like, all right. Get the room with the slide in it. She was like, oh, my gosh, that's so much money. I was like, look, there's a chance her mama might have taken her here before with her uncle. I get the best of the best. That's just how I roll. We going somewhere? We get the best tickets. Renaissance Fair, vip, Medieval Times. Vip.
• 2:13:09
Speaker A: You know, Mama with her uncle.
• 2:13:16
Speaker B: She knows what I'm saying.
• 2:13:19
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 2:13:22
Speaker B: And that's happened. I've taken her.
• 2:13:24
  Speaker A: I don't know, because if.
• 2:13:25
Speaker B: And she was like, oh, yeah, I've been here with mom and uncle, and I'm like, oh, did they do this? And next, you know, we're VIPs. Same with medieval Times. They did the same.
• 2:13:42
Speaker A: Sounds like they're having a lot of fun.
• 2:13:44
Speaker B: Not as much as I'm having. I'm vip, bro. I still got my horn.
• 2:13:48
Speaker A: God damn right you are.
• 2:13:49
  Speaker B: I'm saying.
• 2:13:50
  Speaker A: Yeah, man.
• 2:13:54
Speaker B: So seems like, what now?
• 2:13:57
Speaker A: I would. I guess I would just have to say intelligent. I don't know if there's anything I've done in the last month that people would say, like, intelligent, but definitely not prudent.
• 2:14:09
Speaker B: So here's the other thing. I. I have a strong tie. Like, a strong. Like, prudence just carries a certain vibe to it. I feel like prudent is very much related to finance.
• 2:14:24
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 2:14:27
Speaker B: And that's my. That's my Bugaboo, you know?
• 2:14:32
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 2:14:33
Speaker B: I'm actually going to be signed up for a finance class.
• 2:14:39
Speaker A: Yeah, no, I feel the same way. Like, I bought a new pair of running shoes, and it's like, I justified that because, like, I'm getting healthy. I need shoes that don't hurt my feet. I'm making all this great progress. But, you know, the old shoes were fine.
• 2:14:58
  Speaker B: Mm.
• 2:15:00
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 2:15:01
Speaker B: I went, like, 20 years without wearing a necklace, and all of a sudden I was like, I think I look good in the necklace. Let me buy a couple. You know,
• 2:15:12
Speaker A: we were watching a live video of Social Distortion playing, and Mike Ness had on all these gold chains, and my wife goes, you ever thought about wearing a gold chain? I just looked at her. I'm like, I'm not Mike Ness. It just would not look the same with gym shorts and a T shirt. It's not gonna work, dude.
• 2:15:37
Speaker B: You might. You might.
• 2:15:39
  Speaker A: He's in a pinstripe suit,
• 2:15:43
Speaker B: dude. But sometimes I throw this on. I'll walk around. I feel kind of Italian, bro. I'm saying yeah. Like, yeah, yeah, I've been fucking, you know.
• 2:15:56
Speaker A: Now, now, now. Think about that. Think about that. And now think about what it does when we dress all of the cops up in tactical gear. Like, they're going into a war zone. Just think about that.
• 2:16:14
Speaker B: I'm not gonna lie. I would love to get dressed up like that.
• 2:16:18
Speaker A: Of course, of course. But do you think that stomping someone's head in with your boot is not a lot more likely in that outfit? Yes, it is.
• 2:16:31
Speaker B: I'm talking about more around the house, you know, that's my. Around the house, around the house, you know?
• 2:16:38
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, that's all I got. We made a meal out of this one.
• 2:16:52
Speaker B: We did. We're going on two and a half.
• 2:16:56
Speaker A: Yeah. And I don't know about you, but I'm sleepy, dude.
• 2:17:01
Speaker B: I'm sleepy. And I started eating these nuts. I'm pretty sure it's gonna come up in the recording, bro. But, like, I was just like, dude, I didn't eat dinner.
• 2:17:10
Speaker A: Eat on every podcast. It's crazy. I've started one side, and sometimes you talk while you're chewing, and I can't mute it. I have to just let it play. It's crazy.
• 2:17:27
Speaker B: I'll work on that. Because I noticed that in the last episode, I was like, holy, dude. I was like, oh, yeah.
• 2:17:36
Speaker A: There was one in the last, like, three or four that I thought, like, I artfully got rid of all of your mouth noises. But when you're talking, you can still hear the spoon clanking against the bowl. I think you were eating cereal or something.
• 2:17:49
Speaker B: It was cereal, dude. I remember that. I was like, oh, that's when I was eating cereal. Yeah. Yeah.
• 2:17:57
  Speaker A: It's crazy.
• 2:18:00
Speaker B: I'm getting careless. I'll do better.
• 2:18:04
Speaker A: Nah, you're all good.
• 2:18:05
  Speaker B: I know I am.
• 2:18:06
Speaker A: All right. This was a really good one. We should do all seven of the virtues. I think we're gonna run out of gas on that pretty quickly.
• 2:18:15
Speaker B: No, I was thinking the same thing.
• 2:18:17
Speaker A: Realize it all. It all comes down to wisdom.
• 2:18:20
Speaker B: Until we get to the next one we fill in. Unless you already have them all.
• 2:18:29
Speaker A: I mean, I can look up what those are, and we can just get an outline for each other.
• 2:18:33
Speaker B: I say we take it. We take it the same pace as your. Your group.
• 2:18:38
Speaker A: Oh, okay. Yeah, Once a month.
• 2:18:40
Speaker B: Yeah. So those other three. Other three weeks, we. We get to cover the stuff that we want to cover now that we don't want to cover. Yeah. Alter ego next week.
• 2:18:52
Speaker A: We can do alter egos next week, and then we'll jump into whatever this chapter is. I also work well under pressure. The book clubs Monday night. Haven't even cracked open the book for chapter two,
• 2:19:08
Speaker B: but I'm gonna peruse it on the way to group.
• 2:19:12
Speaker A: No, actually, I. I read it twice because hoopla. I didn't buy the book. Hoopla had the ebook and the audiobook, so I was like, perfect. I'm gonna read through it once, read through it, and take notes, and then I'll listen to it again. And still didn't have much to add to the conversation. I got more out of tonight than I did that book club.
• 2:19:37
Speaker B: So that's what you did with chapter one?
• 2:19:40
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 2:19:41
Speaker B: And you're not gonna do with chapter two or what? Probably just listen to it.
