- 1:24Theological Seminary.
- 1:26Todd and brother, welcome to World View Matters, good to see you.
- 1:31Likewise, brother, I've really been looking forward to this, David.
- 1:33Thank you so much for having me.
- 1:34I can't believe it's been two years since we were on Jan Markel, seemed like a couple
- 1:38months ago.
- 1:39I know.
- 1:40I remember after that, we exchanged emails briefly back and forth and then one of us
- 1:46reported us didn't follow up.
- 1:48But now it's just a blessing we've had Jeff on a few times.
- 1:51So let's talk about Prophecy Pro's podcast, Jeff, and we've talked about that a little
- 1:58bit.
- 1:59And now from your side, because you co-host that, when did you connect with Jeff?
- 2:03I know you've got a love for prophecy and apologetics.
- 2:05And I don't remember asking him how you guys connected.
- 2:10It's funny that I'll give you the short version, basically I reached out to him after reading
- 2:16several of his books when I've really started digging into Bible prophecy.
- 2:20And I've always studied it, been interested in it since I became a believer as a teenager.
- 2:24I can share a little bit about my testimony a little bit later, but his were some of
- 2:29the first books I read when I really started looking at what was going on in the world
- 2:33like, wait a minute, this is in the Bible and I need to know more about it.
- 2:37And started a YouTube channel and actually reached out to him and said, hey, you modify
- 2:42interview about one of your books.
- 2:44And so we kind of connected there.
- 2:46And then he actually helped me get in touch with my first agent.
- 2:51I had an agent I was working with for a potential book, but it wasn't there was kind of no chemistry
- 2:55there.
- 2:56So he put me in touch with an agent.
- 2:58And then so that's how we met and he took a look at my book concept and he said, oh, man,
- 3:02they got to see this.
- 3:03This is needed right now.
- 3:05And long story short, we kept bumping into each other at Bible prophecy conferences and
- 3:10stuff like that.
- 3:11And we both learned that we both grew up unchurched.
- 3:14We both were far from the Lord.
- 3:16And God reached both of us through some amazing ways, we're teenagers.
- 3:21With me, it was it was fulfilled Bible prophecy that kind of broke down the barriers and let
- 3:25me know, hey, I need to check out this book, the Bible.
- 3:28It's supernatural in nature.
- 3:30And so we're cut from the same cloth and the more we got to know each other, we're just
- 3:33like, man, we need to do something together.
- 3:36And so we just kind of kicked around some ideas and came up with the prophecy pros and here
- 3:41we are nearly 2 million downloads later.
- 3:45Top 1% of podcasts, what I understand, it's a pretty big 1%, but still we're in that
- 3:50top 1%.
- 3:51And it's all glory to God because we didn't plan that.
- 3:55We just we just wanted to do some ministry together and saw the need.
- 3:58And God just took it from there and took it took off like wildfire.
- 4:02Yeah, I love some of the topics you guys cover and my goodness.
- 4:07Just the fact how you guys connect, very interesting story.
- 4:10But let's go back to when you were a teenager, it's very hard for some of us to grasp being
- 4:17having a conversion to Christ at the age of 13 because you did not grow up in a Christian
- 4:23or religious home, correct?
- 4:24Correct.
- 4:25Exactly.
- 4:26You know, good, good safe home, you know, had some, you know, broken home divorce and all
- 4:32that kind of stuff.
- 4:33But other than that, good, good safe home, good parents.
- 4:36But nobody was believers, we didn't go to church.
- 4:40And I believed in evolution.
- 4:42I thought the Bible was a book of fairy tales that was used to explain ancient things that
- 4:47people couldn't explain and used to control people.
- 4:50So I, through a weird series of events, I wound up in a Christian school in the eighth grade.
- 4:55And as you mentioned, I have an art background, my art teacher just so happened to be my Bible
- 5:00teacher.
- 5:01And I was the only unsafe kid in the class.
- 5:04So he kind of looking back now, he catered the whole class to reach me.
- 5:08And I was only there for three months, actually, but during that time, and I didn't get saved
- 5:13while I was there, but God used that time there to begin to break down my walls of resistance.
- 5:20And the main thing he used was the apologetic of fulfilled Bible prophecy.
- 5:24When I saw some of that, particularly related to the first coming, but also, you know,
- 5:29to Daniel 7, I couldn't explain those things away and had to come with the grips, come
- 5:35to grips with the fact that there was a supernatural component to the Bible.
- 5:40So you must have progressed then from that class in your art and your, just your desire
- 5:46to pursue that as a career, a lot of people, I mean, kids go to college, they don't even
- 5:50know what they want to do when they get out of college, you know?
- 5:52But you, it sounds like God opened up that door for you after you got saved and created
- 5:57that desire to use your art and those skills to glorify him.
- 6:02Tell us how that came about.
- 6:04Yeah, sure thing.
- 6:05I, yeah, I was, ever since I was in grade school, I would be drawing characters and cartoons
- 6:10and stuff like that.
- 6:11And I always loved that.
- 6:13I always loved story, but never really thought I could do it as a career.
- 6:16And then in my senior year, I basically, I was kind of like, this is the only thing I'm
- 6:20good at. So I went to college for art and wound up working in DC for 13 years as a graphic
- 6:27artist and then eventually managed a graphics and print shop and downtown DC.
- 6:33And at the same time, I was always serving in church and like doing art stuff in church,
- 6:38but never thought about doing ministry on a, on a broader scale until I had, I got
- 6:43married and had two kids and we're watching all the special features on the cartoons,
- 6:47you know, Pixar and Veggie Tales and all that.
- 6:49And I thought, you know what?
- 6:51I think, I think I want to do this on my own for the Lord and basically came on one
- 6:56day and after we had our second child, I've got three alt total, but after our second child
- 7:02and our first single family home, I came home and told my wife, I think God's calling
- 7:06me to quit my stable job and start an animation company.
- 7:09And she, she's always been a great, you know, great.
- 7:12And it comes a stepping out in faith.
- 7:14And she saw that the Lord was moving in that direction anyway.
- 7:16And she was just on board right away.
- 7:18And wow, so 2003 started Tim Motunes and produced a bunch of content and DVDs for children's
- 7:24ministry and then also did service work for other entertainment companies and still do
- 7:29to this day.
- 7:30Still, we still got Tim Motunes role in Timbuktunes.com.
- 7:34And it says from script to screen and everything in between.
- 7:36So if, so if someone wants to do something creative for their church or something like
- 7:42this, some animation, how does that work?
- 7:44They contact you and, and what does that mean from, from script from the writing to actually
- 7:50the production?
- 7:50Just tell us a little bit more about that process for someone interested.
- 7:54Yeah, sure thing.
- 7:55And we, we actually really only do series work now.
- 7:58We used to do a lot of one off projects, but now we work primarily on, on series where
- 8:03you have a, a good ramp up time to create and produce all the characters and the, all
- 8:08the assets that you see on screen.
- 8:10But yeah, basically what happens is people come to us with a concept for a series will help
- 8:15them develop the series, design the characters, write the scripts, record the voices, produce
- 8:20the animation, do the sound design and compositing and then credits.
- 8:24You know, so, so really development through post production, we can handle it.
- 8:29And right now we're working on a series called Stories for the Storyteller for Jonathan
- 8:33Evans, who's a Dr. Tony Evans son there in Texas.
- 8:38And we finish producing that later in 20s, 25.
- 8:42So that's kind of the big one we're working on now.
- 8:44But yeah, it's a, it's a fun process.
- 8:45There's a lot of moving parts, but we've built a pretty good team over the years.
- 8:49We've got it down to a pretty good science.
- 8:51Awesome.
- 8:52I'm just looking at just some of the books you put out to and just amazing, you know, you
- 8:56did a Daniel, you did the chronological guide to Bible prophecy.
- 9:02You got one on the guide to prophecy for young people.
- 9:06What else here?
- 9:08Life lessons from the parables of Jesus and the visual guide coming soon to biblical
- 9:15apologetics. But I also wanted to touch on something that's coming up that people can
- 9:19pre-order because it's going to be here in a matter of weeks.
- 9:22And that's October 1st and that's called the non-profits guide to heaven.
- 9:29A lot of people interested in this topic, as you said, before we got on the podcast,
- 9:33your Todd. So tell us a little bit about this.
- 9:35I've got some couple bullet points on the book I can ask you about, but tell us a little
- 9:39about non-profits guide to heaven.
- 9:42Yeah, so that's actually the, I believe, six or seventh book in the series.
- 9:47The first book was the non-profits guide to the end times and the non-profit as a character
- 9:52in its P-R-O-P-H-E-T. So he gets prophecy wrong and he's a terrible businessman.
- 9:58So he's he's the epitome of a day late and a dollar short, but I use him and the illustrations
- 10:05as comic relief and some visual teaching methods in the book to take kind of the intimidation
- 10:13factor out of these heady topics like revelation and Bible prophecy and apologetics and that
- 10:17kind of thing. But the non-profits guide to heaven is all about heaven.
- 10:21It's a systematic overview of heaven and it kind of starts with the backstory of heaven.
- 10:26It compares, it looks at what other world religions teach about heaven, if people are curious,
- 10:31just to kind of compare with Christianity. And then it highlights the fact that Christianity
- 10:36is the only religious teaching in the world that holds that God came and died for us and we
- 10:44don't have to work to get to him. It's the only one that's salvation by grace through faith.
- 10:49So I highlight that and I also highlight all of the amazing things that a lot of believers,
- 10:54they know we're going to heaven, but they may not realize what leads up to that.
- 10:57Namely, the rapture, the beam of sea, the marriage, the return, the millennial kingdom, heaven.
- 11:03What are, you know, bodies going to be like? What's going to be like in heaven? What do we know
- 11:08from scripture? What heaven's going to be like? And by the way, I mentioned that's about the
- 11:14seventh book in the series and I'm working on the final book in that series now. When I wrote
- 11:19book one, the non-profits guide to the end times, my deal with God was, okay, Lord, I'm going to write
- 11:24this one book and I don't want to travel and I don't want to speak. So if you really want to
- 11:30see God, sense a humor and watch the world flip up, set down, try to tell God what you're going to do
- 11:34and see what happens. Yeah, I had a friend that said that too, if you want to make God laugh, tell him
- 11:38your plans. Yeah, exactly what I did. And he said, okay, watch this. Now you're speaking, you're
- 11:45traveling and you're doing all the things that you didn't really think you would do. So this
- 11:50says it answers the most commonly, commonly asked questions about heaven and the afterlife.
- 11:55I want to go back to the apologetic aspect of world religions because I find that to be fascinating.
- 12:00It's every other religion is about work, work, work, work, work or doing, doing, doing. And it's very
- 12:07unique that Christianity, our God came to die for us to pave the way so that we might live
- 12:15eternally with him. There's no other, nothing else compares to the Christian faith and the
- 12:22message of salvation in the gospel. Go ahead and share a little bit more about that, Todd.
- 12:26Yeah, it's wild when you look at it, you know, Hinduism and some of the others are kind of like
- 12:31you become one with God and lose consciousness. That doesn't sound very appealing to me.
- 12:36Islam, as you know, it's definitely a workspace gospel. You don't really know you're going to
- 12:40get to heaven until you die and then you hope you get there. Yeah. The only guaranteed way is to
- 12:45die for your God, to die in in jihad is the only way to know you're going to heaven. And even
- 12:52Judaism, you know, which uses the first five books of the Old Testament, the Torah, they focus
- 12:58because that came out of the era where the Egyptians focused so much on the afterlife,
- 13:03but in a pagan way that they purposely don't touch it and are kind of just like let's leave it
- 13:07up to God, we don't really know. So that was one surprising one for me was in Judaism. There's
- 13:13a spectrum, but it's all there's a lot of different views about what happens in the afterlife.
- 13:17But like you said, Christianity is the only one where the creator of the universe
- 13:23became a man hung on the cross, became sin for us. And somehow I don't know how this happens,
- 13:30but within the Trinity that God, God the Father turns his back on God the Son, something we can't
- 13:35understand, and his judgment falls on the Son in our place. And then we trade our
- 13:41sinfulness for his righteousness simply by accepting the free gift of salvation and he already paid
- 13:47for it does not get any better than that. And our living for him comes out of a heart of gratitude
- 13:52for what is already done. We're not working for salvation. We're not striving for anything. We know,
- 13:57we can know for sure right now that you're a believer and you're going to be with the Lord forever
- 14:02without any guesswork. So it literally doesn't get any better than that.
- 14:06I know. It's just amazing that we have the assurance of eternal security and there's no other
- 14:12religion or cult or anything else that promises that kind of assurance. There's a lot of ifs,
- 14:17there's a lot of well possibly I might make it, you know, they don't know. I also heard the
- 14:22expression Todd someone said Christianity is all the other religions are about do do do and
- 14:28Christianity is done. Jesus said it is finished. He did the work and he paved the way that we
- 14:38might believe and it's yeah, the great exchange. It's just amazing. It's the best news. That's
- 14:44why the gospel. Good news, right? So we're going to take a quick pause with Todd Hampson. Friends,
- 14:48you can preorder the book at Todd Hampson.com. It's also up on Amazon. You can preorder it's
- 14:55out in a matter of weeks. We'll be right back on World View Matters.
- 15:25Matters at FPE USA dot org our producer will get right back to you. You can always go to the
- 15:31website worldviewmatters.tv. So Todd Hampson is our guest today. You can go to Tim Bucktoons. You
- 15:39can go to the the profits guide.com, the nonprofit's guide.com and this next book coming out in just
- 15:46a matter of weeks. The nonprofit's guide to heaven is the next one in the series prophecy pros
- 15:51podcast on YouTube and other outlets. So Todd, let's talk a little bit more about this. I love
- 15:58apologetics too and I'm constantly learning. I'm constantly trying to find ways that we can
- 16:04respond to people and talk about these things because you made some great points when you
- 16:09point out other religions and world religions and you know, how would you respond to this?
- 16:14People often say, well, Christian, it's so exclusive. When Jesus said, I am the way,
- 16:19the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. That's pretty exclusive.
- 16:24But then again, it says God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever
- 16:29believes in Him can have eternal life. So it's not exclusive when people think, oh, you guys
- 16:35are so narrow. Well, it's a narrow path. So it's interesting. It sounds like it might be a
- 16:40contradictory gospel, but it's not. Go ahead and share a little bit about that. Yeah, that's a great
- 16:46point. I mean, He said, whosoever will may come, you know, so it's open to all. He got so
- 16:52loved the world. I like to tell people that because another similar argument I hear people say is
- 16:57that telling people there's a hell is just a scare tactic, you know, to get people into Christianity.
- 17:03And really, what it is, what the gospel is is, you know, if you see the example I use is,
- 17:09if you see a fenced in area and it says high voltage, keep out, you don't say, oh, that's a
- 17:13scare tactic. But it's the reality of what's there. If you go into that and you touch some
- 17:19certain things, you're going to find out the hard way that that high voltage will kill you. And
- 17:23it's the same thing with Christianity with with salvation is that the reality is God is the
- 17:29holy God. We are sinful people people. Every single person on earth is born and sin. That's not a
- 17:36popular statement, but it's true. It's biblical. And but the thing is, He did everything possible
- 17:42so that we don't have to go to health. If for people to go to hell, they have to step over the
- 17:46cross, reject what God has done and make their own decision to rebel against God and to ignore what
- 17:52He's done. Now, there is definitely an aspect to it that is a, you know, when you look at God's
- 17:59sovereignty versus man's responsibility, we can't reconcile all that God is in complete control.
- 18:04And at the same time, we're responsible to respond. But the bottom line is God is God and we're not.
- 18:11And for me, and maybe this will encourage someone in that vein, for me, that's why
- 18:17grappling with the Bible itself first was the thing that led me to my salvation because
- 18:22even at 13 and even as a, you know, with some rebellious thoughts in my mind about trying to
- 18:27reject the Bible, I genuinely wanted to know truth. And I, and if in the Bible, if the Bible is
- 18:34the source for Christianity, if the Bible is inspired from cover to cover, and that's the authoritative
- 18:39word of God, then I had to figure that out first. Once I saw evidence that that was true,
- 18:44that that book is accurate and can be trusted in one area that I couldn't explain, then that meant
- 18:50I could also trust it in the areas of salvation and eternity and heaven and all those kind of
- 18:55things. So it really is an amazing apologetic, fulfilled Bible prophecy and many other apologetics,
- 19:00you know, archaeological discoveries keep just affirming everything in scripture. I mean,
- 19:04it's just mind-blowing. If people will come to it, set their pre-suppositions aside and say,
- 19:11I just want to know truth and I'm willing to go wherever it leads me, I believe they'll come to Christ.
- 19:16I mean, just that fact, I mean, we know fulfilled prophecy is big enough, that's enough, but also
- 19:23archaeology. If people want to truly reason it and if they're open-minded and thinking, okay,
- 19:29I just want to gather information, every time there's an archaeological dig, you know,
- 19:33something comes up that confirms either a person, a place, a historical event,
- 19:40things that happened or people or places in the Bible in the Old Testament and people don't,
- 19:46I don't know, I don't understand how people don't look at that and go, wow, so the Bible just
- 19:51isn't a history book, it is very accurate, but Todd, you mentioned something, you mentioned authority
- 19:58and over at the non-profitsguide.com on this new book where it says Bibliology. I'm looking at
- 20:04those five things. So this, you know, it's an animated book, it's a little light-hearted, but the
- 20:09content is a deep dive into what the Bible really says and these key concepts, inspiration,
- 20:18inerrancy, authority, sufficiency and canonicity. I mean, in our churches, a lot of people don't hear
- 20:28many of those words at all and here they are in this new book, Todd. So if you want to pick any one
- 20:33of those, just talk about something that jumps out at you because these are very important
- 20:38concepts and topics. They really are and the reason I included it was, that's in one of the
- 20:44early chapters where I'm trying to give a baseline for why we can trust what scripture says about
- 20:48heaven. You know, and so, like you said, so many people have never thought about what those are,
- 20:53so I kind of unpacked the fact that first the Bible is revealed, it's God's revealed word, word,
- 20:59it's inspired by the Holy Spirit, literally God breathed and because of that, we believe it's
- 21:06inerrant meaning it's without error in everywhere that it speaks and actually we find that to be
- 21:12true even scientifically, even though it's not a science book or or scientific terms like we're
- 21:16used to today, what it states holds up. So it's inerrant, it's without error, it's it's sufficient
- 21:23meaning everything we need to know about our relationship to God, how to reach him and how to
- 21:29live this life in a way that pleases him is in there. It's authoritative meaning it tells us how to
- 21:35live and what to believe and we we need to bow to that, we need to submit to the word of God
- 21:42and canonicity is just a fancy way of saying the 66 books that wound up in the Bible are there
- 21:47on purpose, that God oversaw that process of those books coming together and and there's whole,
- 21:54you know, you could take whole courses on how that all came together and why that's important,
- 21:58but but I but I mention those because it's so important to wrestle with those and to
- 22:03form our own convictions about what we believe about the authority and sufficiency and in
- 22:07energy of scripture, there are some movements within the church right now that are that are
- 22:12gutting those things that are weakening the moorings of those key things and then
- 22:18then you're left with a Bible that you don't know whether it's the word of God. No, we can have
- 22:23confidence that the Bible from Genesis 1-1 to Revelation 22-21 is 100% the word of God. Inspired
- 22:30God breathes. I was just thinking was it first Peter 1 chapter 1 verses 1920, I think it's
- 22:38first Peter who talks about the men were carried along, it's not no prophecies of man's will,
- 22:43but men carried along by the Holy Spirit or carried by God spoke spoke through the Holy Spirit.
- 22:51Amen. Canonicity, I want to spend just another minute or two on that because we're running
- 22:56on a time. The average person might think, well, gosh, how did these men, church leaders or whoever
- 23:04scholars, theologians, how did all the, how did God get all these men together and figure out
- 23:11what books would be in the 66 would be inspired would be his holy word. Just share a little bit
- 23:18more about that please. Yeah, sure thing. I mean, briefly, it was a messy process especially for
- 23:24the New Testament, but God uses messy means. Look at the 12 disciples who changed the whole world.
- 23:30God, but and nothing prophetically or biblically happens in a vacuum. It happens in real life in
- 23:35a process over time. The Old Testament was settled, you know, long before Jesus came on the scene,
- 23:41so that that kind of as a no-brainer, it's the New Testament Canon that people wrestled with when
- 23:46when letters were first out, but there were some standards about what was what was scripture and
- 23:51what was not. Some of the apostles referred to other apostles writings in the New Testament as
- 23:56scripture. So that's your first hint that, oh, okay, first we had the prophets and the writers of
- 24:01the Old Testament. Now we have the the apostles and the New Testament and the gospel writers,
- 24:06the disciples of Christ, anyone alive at Jesus's time would have been the ones who could write
- 24:12the scriptures. Anything beyond that, we don't hold to. And also through that messy process,
- 24:18different councils did wrestle with what books go in, which ones don't. And they looked for things
- 24:23like accuracy, agreement with other books, the fact that it fits in the Canon. What was what was
- 24:29used in the first century? What what the apostles themselves used? What letters they wrote that were
- 24:35circulated? So again, it is a messy process, but we believe God, the big word we use is God super
- 24:41intended that process of the Canon coming together. Just like he and super-tended the process of
- 24:48me coming to Christ as a messy 13 year old. He takes messy things and puts them together. But God
- 24:54is God and we need to trust him with those things. Amen. Amen. I love the fact that you touch on each
- 25:01of these topics. And you mentioned you do it early in the book too. So this is not just some light
- 25:07hearted. You know, don't let don't let the illustrations and the animation fool you friends. This is
- 25:11not just some lighthearted kids book. This is deep stuff. And Todd, what a blessing to have that
- 25:18talent to do it in a way that's like you said, non-threatening that might bring in some people who are not
- 25:23believers that are that look at this going well heaven. You know, a lot of people are interested in
- 25:29heaven, not just obviously not just believers. So yeah, brilliant. So now people could pre-order it,
- 25:35but it's due out October 1st. And I mean Lord willing, we will have you back on maybe in the fall
- 25:43or something in a couple months right now. Yeah, but let's let's keep now ones we're connected now.
- 25:48Yeah, you said that'd be great. We have you on tape. We have you on tape. Todd, God bless you.
