- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey everybody, Welcome to Disgraceland, which is brought to you
- 0:03Speaker 1: by Double Elvis. This week, we have our Andy Warhol
- 0:06Speaker 1: story and the Disgraceland feed, our Hunter S. Thompson episode
- 0:09Speaker 1: available to our Disgraceland All Access members in our Patreon
- 0:14Speaker 1: and Apple subscription feeds. And for the parents out there,
- 0:17Speaker 1: we have a brand new episode on music Land Stories
- 0:20Speaker 1: called Appearing for One Night Only. That's our fiction show
- 0:23Speaker 1: for kids and families, and that's available for you right
- 0:25Speaker 1: now as well. Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland
- 0:31Speaker 1: in your life, just to touch to get you through, Yeah,
- 0:35Speaker 1: me too. This is the podcast that comes after the podcast.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Welcome to Disgraceland. The after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland
- 0:57Speaker 1: bonus episode, a little thing we like to call the
- 1:00Speaker 1: after party. This is the show after the show, the
- 1:02Speaker 1: party after the party, the bridge to get you from
- 1:04Speaker 1: one full episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard
- 1:08Speaker 1: to dig into the dirt. On this episode, we are
- 1:11Speaker 1: talking about our new Andy Warhol episode of DISGRACELANMD that's
- 1:15Speaker 1: in your feeds right now. Just ahead of this bonus episode,
- 1:18Speaker 1: we're talking about the sources that went into creating that
- 1:20Speaker 1: Warhol episode. We're also talking about a new Hunter S.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Thompson episode that you can access right now. We're going
- 1:28Speaker 1: to get to that in a minute. With our major
- 1:30Speaker 1: announcement today is the launch of Disgraceland All Access, a
- 1:34Speaker 1: brand new subscription feed where you can get even more
- 1:37Speaker 1: regular content from me. More on that in a bit,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and of course your voicemails, texts, dms, and a whole
- 1:43Speaker 1: lot of roads.
- 1:44Speaker 2: All right, disc goes, let's get thanks a right.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Fifteen minutes. I like to think that I can do
- 2:00Speaker 1: anything for fifteen minutes. Whenever I have to sit through
- 2:03Speaker 1: something tedious or boring, or whenever I'm forced to do
- 2:06Speaker 1: something that I don't like, I try to get some perspective.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I tell myself, this isn't so bad. What if I
- 2:12Speaker 1: was on a forced march through a Vietnamese jungle during
- 2:15Speaker 1: the war and I had to endure that for fifteen minutes,
- 2:18Speaker 1: Or what if God forbid, I had to get a
- 2:20Speaker 1: real job and be up on a roof laying tile
- 2:23Speaker 1: or something, or digging dishes somewhere, or if I had
- 2:26Speaker 1: having to endure that work for fifteen minutes. Now, that's tough,
- 2:30Speaker 1: you know, when I'm online for the DMV, or when
- 2:32Speaker 1: I'm stuck, you know, at a ten year old's birthday
- 2:35Speaker 1: party and forced to choose between eating the sugar Laiden
- 2:38Speaker 1: cake that's going to make me feel like shit, or
- 2:40Speaker 1: trying not to be annoyed by the loud clicking of
- 2:44Speaker 1: small battalions worth of NERF guns. I tell myself, Yeah,
- 2:47Speaker 1: just fifteen minutes. I can do this. I can do this.
- 2:51Speaker 1: But could I be famous for fifteen minutes, truly famous,
- 2:55Speaker 1: like Andy Warhol said? Or could you maybe you have been,
- 2:59Speaker 1: maybe you already are, maybe you're going through your fifteen
- 3:01Speaker 1: minutes right now. Fame, as we touched on in last
- 3:06Speaker 1: week's episode of The After Party, relative to the Anthony
- 3:09Speaker 1: Bourdain episode, fame is a bitch. Yet it is something that,
- 3:14Speaker 1: in some ways, in this digital age, is easier to
- 3:17Speaker 1: attain than ever. The gatekeepers, the Hollywood moguls, the titans
- 3:21Speaker 1: of industry, the cigar chopping record executives, the Madison Avenue
- 3:25Speaker 1: admin they have less influence than ever, if they even
- 3:28Speaker 1: exist anymore, as archetypes that they once were. These days,
- 3:32Speaker 1: we are the influencers, you and me. It's all there
- 3:36Speaker 1: for the taking. All we have to do is create
- 3:39Speaker 1: and commit, but fame is relative. Having a podcast that
- 3:44Speaker 1: reaches millions of people is different than having a YouTube
- 3:47Speaker 1: channel that reaches millions of people, which is different than
- 3:49Speaker 1: having a television show that reaches millions of people. But
- 3:52Speaker 1: that's just the point. There are options methods of distribution
- 3:56Speaker 1: that can take a small piece of art or media
- 3:58Speaker 1: that we create in blast all over the world in seconds,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and voila, you're famous. Sort of. I'm not sure this
- 4:06Speaker 1: is exactly what Andy Warhol predicted, but it's damn close.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And then again, I wonder if Andy Warhol really even
- 4:13Speaker 1: believed in his prediction that everyone will one day be
- 4:16Speaker 1: famous for fifteen minutes, or if it was just some
- 4:18Speaker 1: bullshit that that sounded outlandish, ostentatious, the kind of thing
- 4:22Speaker 1: that you know would lead to someone becoming famous, or
- 4:25Speaker 1: at least helped reinforce the fame that Andy Warhol had
- 4:28Speaker 1: already attained. Either way, here we are, and the wicked
- 4:32Speaker 1: irony here of the Andy Warhol story, as you're going
- 4:34Speaker 1: to listen to in the full episode if you haven't
- 4:36Speaker 1: listened to it already, or you may have already heard,
- 4:39Speaker 1: the irony is that Andy's fame created a cult of
- 4:42Speaker 1: personality and then a deranged obsession that resulted in someone
- 4:47Speaker 1: putting a bullet in Andy Warhol, and that act led
- 4:50Speaker 1: to fifteen minutes of fame for the deranged mad woman
- 4:53Speaker 1: who shot him, whose bullet ultimately killed Andy almost two
- 4:57Speaker 1: decades later. It's a wild story. I want to know
- 5:01Speaker 1: what you thought of it. I want to know what
- 5:02Speaker 1: you think of this whole thing. I want to know
- 5:03Speaker 1: what you think of this crazy era that we're living in.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Six one seven, nine oh six six six three eight.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Leave me a voicemail, send me a text. I also
- 5:11Speaker 1: want to know about your own brushes with fame. Have
- 5:14Speaker 1: you ever been famous in any way? Have you ever
- 5:16Speaker 1: been on the local news caught up in some sort
- 5:18Speaker 1: of mini scandal, caught on stage by a Rolling Stone photographer,
- 5:22Speaker 1: Carnegie Hall, singing behind Patti Smith when he had no
- 5:24Speaker 1: business doing so. That last example is from my past,
- 5:27Speaker 1: but I digress. I want to hear from you, guys.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Six one seven, nine oh six six six three eight.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I want to take a quick break, come back on
- 5:33Speaker 1: the other side with some information on the sources that
- 5:35Speaker 1: we used to build the Andy Warhol episode. Your voicemails, texts,
- 5:39Speaker 1: emails in a very special major announcement. All Right, guys,
- 6:05Speaker 1: today is a special day. Today is the day that
- 6:08Speaker 1: we are launching the Disgraceland All Access Membership Club. This
- 6:13Speaker 1: has been a long time in the making, and I've
- 6:15Speaker 1: been trying to figure out how to bring you guys
- 6:16Speaker 1: more content and find a way for us to engage
- 6:20Speaker 1: more fully, more deeply, to better connect around the subjects
- 6:23Speaker 1: and stories that we are telling. And this Disgraceland All
- 6:26Speaker 1: Access Membership Club is the way to do this. First
- 6:28Speaker 1: of all, all the episodes that you've been getting weekly,
- 6:32Speaker 1: that show that's up in your Apple and Spotify and
- 6:34Speaker 1: Amazon feeds right now or in whatever feed that you
- 6:36Speaker 1: listen to your podcasts, and that is not changing. That's
- 6:39Speaker 1: not going anywhere. Okay, this isn't us going behind a
- 6:41Speaker 1: paywall that you have to scale to listen to Disgraceland.
- 6:44Speaker 1: That is not happening. That is not what this is.
- 6:47Speaker 1: The main episodes of Disgraceland, the full episode, like the
- 6:50Speaker 1: Warhol one we just delivered in the bulk of this
- 6:52Speaker 1: bonus episode of the after Party episode, These are still
- 6:55Speaker 1: going to remain in your podcast feed. They're going to
- 6:57Speaker 1: show up as they always have However, if you want more,
- 7:02Speaker 1: that's the key word here, more. If you want more Disgraceland,
- 7:07Speaker 1: if you want to hear an extra full episode of
- 7:10Speaker 1: Disgraceland per month, like the one that we released today
- 7:13Speaker 1: on Hunter S. Thompson. Wait a minute, you're saying, wait,
- 7:16Speaker 1: where where's the Hunter S. Thompson episode? Where can I
- 7:18Speaker 1: get this? I don't see it in my feed. That's
- 7:20Speaker 1: because you haven't signed up yet to become an all
- 7:22Speaker 1: access member of Disgraceland. When you do that, you're gonna
- 7:25Speaker 1: get the Hunter S. Thompson episode, and next month you're
- 7:28Speaker 1: going to get the new Chris Cornell episode, and then
- 7:30Speaker 1: after that the month after that, you're gonna get the
- 7:32Speaker 1: new Baskett episode. You're only going to get these episodes,
- 7:36Speaker 1: these new full extra episodes in the Disgraceland All Access
- 7:41Speaker 1: feed once a month, so you get everything you're already
- 7:44Speaker 1: getting no matter what. You become a disgrace Land All
- 7:46Speaker 1: Access member, you get an extra full episode. Okay, you
- 7:48Speaker 1: also get if you want to listen to every episode
- 7:51Speaker 1: of Disgraceland, the new ones that we're releasing weekly, plus
- 7:53Speaker 1: the one hundred and sixty plus episodes that we have
- 7:56Speaker 1: in the archive. If you want to listen to these
- 7:57Speaker 1: episodes of disgrace Land ad free, you're going to get
- 8:00Speaker 1: that by becoming a Disgraceland All Access member as well.
- 8:03Speaker 1: If you want to hear the extended full version of
- 8:05Speaker 1: these bonus after party episodes going forward, you have to
- 8:08Speaker 1: become a Disgraceland All Access member. If you want to
- 8:11Speaker 1: be first to know about new merchandise and have it
- 8:13Speaker 1: made available to you before anyone else, you have to
- 8:16Speaker 1: become a disgrace Land All Access member. And if you
- 8:19Speaker 1: want to talk to me directly on a near daily
- 8:21Speaker 1: basis about the subjects that we cover here in Disgraceland
- 8:24Speaker 1: and to have a closer connection with the disco community,
- 8:27Speaker 1: you have to become a Disgraceland All Access member. But
- 8:31Speaker 1: being part of this club, being part of the Disgraceland
- 8:34Speaker 1: All Access membership club, this is not for everyone, and
- 8:37Speaker 1: that's intentional. It's for the chronics, the obsessives, those of
- 8:41Speaker 1: you who are like me, who don't want the tired
- 8:45Speaker 1: team sanitized for history stories about names that were vaguely
- 8:48Speaker 1: familiar with. You want to shine a light into the darkness,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and you want the most interesting stories about the most
- 8:53Speaker 1: interesting people who have ever lived. And you want to
- 8:56Speaker 1: know where these stories came from. You want to know
- 8:58Speaker 1: what made them come to life, what books and movies
- 9:02Speaker 1: they first appeared in, what books and movies they inspired,
- 9:06Speaker 1: And you want to help guide us here at Double
- 9:08Speaker 1: Elvis and selecting the subjects that we cover. You like us,
- 9:11Speaker 1: like I said, are obsessed. And for your obsession, my friends,
- 9:14Speaker 1: you will be rewarded with the benefit of being part
- 9:17Speaker 1: of a community of like minded obsessives the discos. You
- 9:21Speaker 1: will also be rewarded with a shit ton of exclusive content,
- 9:23Speaker 1: just like I mentioned before, just like that Hunter S.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Thompson episode that we released today. So how do you
- 9:28Speaker 1: get this content? How do you become a member of
- 9:30Speaker 1: the Disgrace and All Access Club. Well, it's five dollars
- 9:34Speaker 1: a month less if you sign up for the whole year.
- 9:37Speaker 1: That's cheaper than a couple of coffee in one of
- 9:38Speaker 1: those bougie neighborhoods that you might visit over the weekend.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Or who knows, maybe you live in one of those
- 9:42Speaker 1: bougie neighborhoods. In that case, you got no excuse. You
- 9:44Speaker 1: got five bucks to spare, all right, But most of
- 9:47Speaker 1: us I get it five bucks any amount of bucks.
- 9:49Speaker 1: That's real money, and that shit is hard to come
- 9:51Speaker 1: by and it's harder to part with, which is why
- 9:53Speaker 1: I am committed to making this all access membership club
- 9:56Speaker 1: pay off for five bucks less than a beer, less
- 9:59Speaker 1: than a beer those bars where all the dudes have
- 10:01Speaker 1: beers and none of the girls want to talk to you.
- 10:02Speaker 1: For that five bucks, you're going to get hooked up.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And it's simple to become a member. Just go to

- 15:31Speaker 1: I don't know what the hell this name is, but
- 15:32Speaker 1: the subject says the name. Excuse me, says okay, subject
- 15:35Speaker 1: says podcast subject, and the message says greetings. I enjoy
- 15:40Speaker 1: your IG stories and your podcast. I was wondering if
- 15:42Speaker 1: you were familiar with the band that Gets and the
- 15:44Speaker 1: untimely death of their lead singer, me Is a Potter.
- 15:47Speaker 1: She was a beautiful soul with a viscerally haunting and
- 15:50Speaker 1: then nothing. But then wait, wait for it. Wait, there's
- 15:54Speaker 1: another email, and it goes on to say, let's try
- 15:57Speaker 1: this again. Mea was murdered and her killer was all
- 16:00Speaker 1: really brought to justice. Years later, the Gets were on
- 16:02Speaker 1: their way to something big. Yes they were. And I'm
- 16:04Speaker 1: very familiar with this story, and I've wanted to tell
- 16:07Speaker 1: it all the way, going all the way back to
- 16:08Speaker 1: season one of Disgraceland. I've never gotten into it because
- 16:12Speaker 1: I just I felt like I haven't had the time
- 16:14Speaker 1: to dedicate to this story. The story feels bigger than
- 16:19Speaker 1: just one episode, and I don't quite know what to
- 16:21Speaker 1: do with it. It gets recommended to me all the time.
- 16:24Speaker 1: We have to do something here on Miya Zapata and
- 16:27Speaker 1: the gets in this story, and we will in time.
- 16:30Speaker 1: We get a lot of time. We're not going anywhere.
- 16:32Speaker 1: And just so you guys know, on the subject of
- 16:34Speaker 1: episode subjects, I'm working on some sort of device for
- 16:39Speaker 1: us to track this, to track the subjects that you're
- 16:44Speaker 1: all recommending, because I get so many great suggestions, and
- 16:47Speaker 1: to help us actually select these together sort of by
- 16:51Speaker 1: as a community. I almost said by committee, but as
- 16:53Speaker 1: a community here. More on that in the coming episodes
- 16:57Speaker 1: of the After Party, and of course over in the
- 16:59Speaker 1: All Access Membership Club. All right, you want to send
- 17:02Speaker 1: me an email, though you can't Disgrace Lampod at gmail
- 17:05Speaker 1: dot com. You want to call me, you can do
- 17:07Speaker 1: that as well. Six one seven nine oh six sixty
- 17:10Speaker 1: six three eight voicemail and text. You want to keep
- 17:14Speaker 1: this engagement going, this conversation going. You want to connect
- 17:16Speaker 1: with me, you want to connect with other members of
- 17:18Speaker 1: the community, the discos go to disgrace lampod dot com
