- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Almost Famous podcast. It's me here
- 0:10Speaker 2: today speaking with all of you about all the headlines
- 0:13Speaker 2: coming up and that have happened in Bachelor Nation. There
- 0:19Speaker 2: are some headlines out there this week that I really
- 0:22Speaker 2: wanted to focus on. We got a little update from
- 0:25Speaker 2: Katie Thurston. She has revealed the cost of her double
- 0:30Speaker 2: mass sectomy and how she saved thousands of dollars. One
- 0:35Speaker 2: of my biggest takeaways from this is that Katie, throughout
- 0:37Speaker 2: this whole process, has continued to help others and share
- 0:42Speaker 2: all the information she has so that if others are
- 0:44Speaker 2: going through it they can learn from her. She's stepping
- 0:49Speaker 2: forward in courageous and wonderful ways. The headline details are this. Recently,
- 0:56Speaker 2: Katie received a double mess sectomy and has been keeping
- 0:59Speaker 2: followers updates with her health and recovery journey. Now, the
- 1:03Speaker 2: Bachelor Nation star is opening up online about how her
- 1:07Speaker 2: surgery costs, or how much her surgery cost, and how
- 1:11Speaker 2: she was able to save thousands of dollars. In a
- 1:13Speaker 2: new video she shared recently, she is quoted saying I
- 1:17Speaker 2: saved thousands of dollars on my medical bill, but it
- 1:20Speaker 2: wasn't easy and it took several months to figure out.
- 1:24Speaker 2: She goes on to say, I recently had a double missectomy,
- 1:27Speaker 2: which came to a total of two hundred and twenty
- 1:31Speaker 2: nine thousand dollars before insurance was billed. What I wanted
- 1:36Speaker 2: to know was what was being covered by insurance, specifically
- 1:40Speaker 2: nerve preservation. She went on to say. Finding out the
- 1:45Speaker 2: answer was not easy because all parties involved are using
- 1:48Speaker 2: different descriptions in different codes. Here's where kind of her
- 1:54Speaker 2: advice kicks in. She asked for an idemized list from
- 1:59Speaker 2: the hospital specifically for the cost of the nerve preservation.
- 2:04Speaker 2: From there, there were over sixty individual items posted. Now
- 2:09Speaker 2: none of them equaled twenty thy seven hundred, but I
- 2:12Speaker 2: did see two visual charges for ten three hundred and
- 2:17Speaker 2: fifty dollars, she said. Now this is the first time
- 2:20Speaker 2: where I do see the word nerve being used on
- 2:23Speaker 2: the itemized bill. She was able to actually request something
- 2:29Speaker 2: called a UBO four. Now, this is what this form does.
- 2:33Speaker 2: It shows you exactly what was built to insurance and
- 2:37Speaker 2: how much was covered. Again, to no one's surprise, the
- 2:43Speaker 2: word nerve is never used in this form. But the
- 2:47Speaker 2: biggest win, according to Katie, was seeing that the amount
- 2:51Speaker 2: owed by the patient was going to be zero dollars. So,
- 2:56Speaker 2: in short, here Katie made sure she audited her bill,
- 3:02Speaker 2: got the itemized list, went back through them, and showed
- 3:09Speaker 2: how much the insurance was actually covering, how much she owed,
- 3:13Speaker 2: and how much the whole procedure cost. Because she audited
- 3:17Speaker 2: this bill, she was able to highlight different discrepancies that
- 3:20Speaker 2: she thought somebody should pay attention to. Again to quote Katie,
- 3:25Speaker 2: she says, you have to be your best advocate. And
- 3:29Speaker 2: I think that is so true with so many things,
- 3:32Speaker 2: especially medical bills. Katie finishes all this with saying, navigating
- 3:39Speaker 2: a healthcare system is stressful. It with so many companies
- 3:42Speaker 2: and health professionals involved, it gets complicated fast. I ended
- 3:46Speaker 2: up paying out of pocket. Anyway, fast forward months later,
- 3:49Speaker 2: I was able to actually get a rent fund on
- 3:51Speaker 2: the supplies related to nerve preservation because insurance actually did
- 3:57Speaker 2: cover the things that she originally paid for out of pocket. So,
- 4:01Speaker 2: in short, if I was to properly or try to
- 4:04Speaker 2: properly summarize Katie, as you go through massive procedures, please
- 4:10Speaker 2: pay attention, go in dig deep. Look if you feel
- 4:14Speaker 2: like things are being charged that you shouldn't be charged for.
- 4:17Speaker 2: It is stressful, and it is probably a big pain,
- 4:19Speaker 2: and it takes a ton of time, and you're going
- 4:21Speaker 2: to talk to a thousand robots along the way. But
- 4:24Speaker 2: go back in and ask the questions. Make sure that
- 4:29Speaker 2: you are knowledgeable, and make sure that you're paying attention,
- 4:34Speaker 2: because nobody wants to be paying more for these very
- 4:38Speaker 2: very stressful procedures than they have to. Speaking of the
- 4:42Speaker 2: health journey, a few weeks ago, we broke the news
- 4:45Speaker 2: that grocery store Joe was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
- 4:51Speaker 2: This hit a lot of people in bachelination very hard,
- 4:56Speaker 2: just like Katie's news did. We love Joe and we
- 5:01Speaker 2: are always encouraged by Joe for his uplifting personality, his
- 5:05Speaker 2: sense of humor, his way of looking at life with
- 5:08Speaker 2: such joyful eyes. And as I mentioned earlier this month,
- 5:14Speaker 2: when he did break the news of the early stage
- 5:17Speaker 2: brain tumor and that he'll need brain surgery, I think
- 5:21Speaker 2: so many of us as friends and so many as
- 5:24Speaker 2: fans of Joe were shocked, but asn't stopped Joe. Not
- 5:30Speaker 2: that we're shocked by it, but even after revealing the
- 5:33Speaker 2: news about his brain tumor. He has recently shared that
- 5:36Speaker 2: he's still currently training for the New York City Marathon.
- 5:40Speaker 2: He has been training for a while and that this
- 5:42Speaker 2: surgery will not stop him. On his Instagram story, the
- 5:45Speaker 2: Vaccination star stated that he decided he was done running
- 5:49Speaker 2: marathons before finding out his health news. In a video,
- 5:52Speaker 2: he said, all right, I just got done with a
- 5:54Speaker 2: run before all this brain stuff. I told myself I
- 5:57Speaker 2: was probably done running marathons. But now he says, I
- 6:00Speaker 2: want that as a goal for myself. I need that,
- 6:04Speaker 2: he says. So. Outside of Joe practicing his golf game,
- 6:08Speaker 2: which I hope is happening as soon as he can,
- 6:12Speaker 2: he's also deciding to get back, put the shoes on
- 6:16Speaker 2: and run, not only for himself, but probably for so
- 6:20Speaker 2: many others out there who are experiencing the health journeys.
- 6:23Speaker 2: His final quote is this, I'm putting it out there
- 6:25Speaker 2: in the universe, and I'm going to be able to
- 6:26Speaker 2: run the New York City Marathon this year. Joe also
- 6:32Speaker 2: posted a photo of his marathon registration and said, cross
- 6:36Speaker 2: his fingers, We'll see. We're all thinking about Joe here
- 6:41Speaker 2: at the Almost Famous podcast as he walks through the
- 6:44Speaker 2: next few weeks of surgery and recovery, we believe that
- 6:48Speaker 2: he is going to come out of this better than ever.
- 6:51Speaker 2: We're also very excited to be celebrating Joe Win. He
- 6:55Speaker 2: crosses the finish line in New York City for the marathon,
- 7:00Speaker 2: probably alongside some other Bachelor Nation contestants that typically do
- 7:04Speaker 2: run the marathon for great causes, like Zach Clark, one
- 7:07Speaker 2: of his closest friends. Now switching gears a little bit
- 7:22Speaker 2: to wedding plans. Juliana Pascuaroso, who came on the podcast
- 7:27Speaker 2: just a few weeks ago with At the time she
- 7:29Speaker 2: was calling her boyfriend Michael, we were that's a great interview.
- 7:36Speaker 2: It's one of my favorites we've ever done. It's iconic,
- 7:38Speaker 2: some would say, because they were very tongue in cheek
- 7:42Speaker 2: about a lot of things and very joy filled during
- 7:46Speaker 2: the interview. I think they came into the interview a
- 7:49Speaker 2: little nervous because their word were really going to push
- 7:53Speaker 2: them to get the answers of if they're married or not.
- 7:56Speaker 2: They never really answered our questions, which was fine. They
- 7:59Speaker 2: don't need to, but it was fun to be able
- 8:00Speaker 2: to ask and they played along the whole time. Earlier
- 8:03Speaker 2: this year, after keeping their relationship mostly private, Juliana's boyfriend,
- 8:09Speaker 2: creative producer Michael, went public with their romance shortly after
- 8:14Speaker 2: rumors started circular and the two were engaged or even
- 8:17Speaker 2: secretly married, as Michael called Juliana WiFi in a comment online.
- 8:24Speaker 2: The couple has never has neither conformed, confirmed, or denied
- 8:28Speaker 2: when addressing the rumors and interviews, but now, while answering
- 8:33Speaker 2: fans questions on her Instagram story, Juliana confirmed that she
- 8:36Speaker 2: is currently wedding planning with Michael, and in response to
- 8:39Speaker 2: one person recently asking when the two are going to
- 8:42Speaker 2: get married, Juliana shared, I plan to bring you guys
- 8:45Speaker 2: along for the wedding planning process. The Bachelor Nation star
- 8:49Speaker 2: continued and revealed that she and Michael have already started
- 8:53Speaker 2: brainstorming some ideas. She wrote, I think Mike will be
- 8:56Speaker 2: Bridezilla only because he does this for a living, and
- 9:01Speaker 2: we also have some really fun ideas that might not
- 9:03Speaker 2: be typical when it comes to your average wedding. Juliana continued,
- 9:07Speaker 2: We'll see what we end up deciding on doing. I
- 9:14Speaker 2: think this answer is our question that we were kind
- 9:19Speaker 2: of pushing for in our interview that they might not
- 9:21Speaker 2: be married, but they might have been engaged for a while.
- 9:23Speaker 2: We don't know that or not, or maybe they were
- 9:25Speaker 2: secretly married and this is just a big celebration. Who knows.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Juliana would love if you all went to her Instagram
- 9:36Speaker 2: and submitted your favorite vendors, wedding dues and don'ts. We'll
- 9:42Speaker 2: follow this story as it continues, but again, we could
- 9:44Speaker 2: be more excited for Juliana and where she's at in
- 9:47Speaker 2: her life and how she's moving forward in love. Dustin
- 9:51Speaker 2: Kendrick Mary's fiance Katrina an intimate ceremony. You might have
- 9:59Speaker 2: gotten a note through season fifteen of The Bachelorette that
- 10:02Speaker 2: was Hannah's season. He's friends with a lot of people
- 10:04Speaker 2: from the show and he's had a really good time
- 10:07Speaker 2: following the show Since his time in the show. Dustin
- 10:09Speaker 2: loves keeping fans updated with his life online. Ended up
- 10:13Speaker 2: finding love offscreen with long term partner Katrina. Last year.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Dustin took to Instagram to share the exciting news that
- 10:20Speaker 2: they were officially engaged, and over the weekend, the couple
- 10:23Speaker 2: announced that they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony
- 10:26Speaker 2: the team. The two got married ahead of their wedding
- 10:29Speaker 2: celebration and shared beautiful photos of their nuptials online. This
- 10:36Speaker 2: is a really cool venue they got married at. They
- 10:39Speaker 2: where they at least exchange changed vows at. They exchanged
- 10:43Speaker 2: vows at Chelsea Old Town Hall in England. The next
- 10:48Speaker 2: picture the couple shared was quoted with this our quiet
- 10:53Speaker 2: little yes before the big celebrations. Officially the Kendricks. Congratulations
- 10:59Speaker 2: to Dustin and Katrina on their ceremony. That's all the
- 11:05Speaker 2: headlines we have for your days. Like week in Bachelor Nation.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Quite honestly it is. It's not as poppin' as some
- 11:15Speaker 2: some weeks we have, which is great. We love to
- 11:19Speaker 2: keep everybody updated on everything happening around the world of Bachelor.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Will continue to do that, not only about the Bachelor,
- 11:26Speaker 2: but also as we break down the Ultimate Girls road Trip,
- 11:31Speaker 2: celebrating season twenty of The Real Housewives or I guess
- 11:35Speaker 2: twenty years of the Real Housewives franchise. I'll be doing
- 11:39Speaker 2: that alongside Lauren. Ashley will be here as much as
- 11:42Speaker 2: she possibly can to also break down headlines, conduct interviews.
- 11:48Speaker 2: This is your one stop shop for everything Bachelor, everything
- 11:52Speaker 2: that Bachelor contestants are participating in and obviously Ashley is
- 11:57Speaker 2: a part of the Housewives franchise now, so we'll be
- 12:01Speaker 2: quickly integrating all the Housewives stuff into the Almost Famous podcast.
- 12:07Speaker 2: But this is the headlines for this week. Until next time,
- 12:10Speaker 2: I've been Ben and we'll talk to you soon.
