- 0:01Philippians chapter 4 Let us pray.
- 0:05Jesus, our Lord God and Almighty, we love you Father, we
- 0:09love everything about you. You are amazing God.
- 0:12You are everything father. You are high and lifted up over
- 0:16every single feeling and emotion and circumstance.
- 0:19God over every government power God, over every entity and
- 0:23principality, over every single man, woman and child.
- 0:27God, you are the most highest thing in the all of the
- 0:30universe. Father, you're higher than
- 0:32anything we could ever set our minds upon.
- 0:35So Lord Jesus Christ, be high and lifted up over us.
- 0:39Lord, over our lives, over our finances, over our health.
- 0:43God, over our friendships. God over our communities.
- 0:46Lord, we lift you up higher than anything.
- 0:49You are our everything. Shine light upon this Dark
- 0:53World. Father, let us be the ministers
- 0:56of reconciliation. God, let us be more than
- 0:59conquerors, let us be the peacemakers.
- 1:01God, let us go out and save those Father that are dying and
- 1:07perishing. Lord, through your mighty hand,
- 1:10God, use us mightily today. Use us, Father, to be your hands
- 1:16and feet, to be the light in the darkness, to be the salt today.
- 1:20God, you are everything. Holy Spirit, and dwell us and
- 1:23fill us today. Holy Spirit, mark us with
- 1:26goodness and grace and mercy and love and joy today.
- 1:30Help us, Holy Spirit, to see Jesus Christ on every syllable,
- 1:35every word, every jot, every title, every comma, every
- 1:38period. It's all about Yeshua.
- 1:41Holy Spirit, teach us the eternal past.
- 1:44Take us from glory to glory. Let us rise to new heights
- 1:47today, and let us feel the depths of God's love for this
- 1:50world. Thank you for saving us when we
- 1:52could not save ourselves. Thank you for getting rid of all
- 1:57of the earthly passions that we possess and help us, Lord, to
- 2:02desire you more than this world, to desire you more than earthly
- 2:07gain. And so God, we get out of our
- 2:10own way and we give you center stage.
- 2:12It's all about King Jesus. I decrease as you increase Holy
- 2:16Spirit, give us the zeal as we consecrate this temple.
- 2:20Come in and fill it overflowing and let it go out into the
- 2:24neighborhoods. Let it go out into our
- 2:26workplaces. Let it go out into our families
- 2:29and our God. Let you be the very first thing
- 2:32on our mind and the last thing before we go to bed.
- 2:35And throughout our entire day, we meditate upon the life of
- 2:38Jesus Christ and the eternal words that he has given us.
- 2:42Thank you, Father, we love you, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Yes, and
- 2:46Amen to all of the things that you're going to teach us today.
- 2:49And it's in Jesus Christ, holy and precious name.
- 2:52I pray Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 2:58Therefore, my brothers, dearly beloved and longed for my joy
- 3:05and crown. So stand fast in the Lord, My
- 3:09dearly beloved Paul really loves these Philippians and he's
- 3:13wrapping it up here, this last chapter of Philippians.
- 3:16And he wants them to know just how beloved they are in Christ
- 3:20Jesus. He's telling them to stand firm.
- 3:22Do not be overtaken by the ones who are trying to infiltrate the
- 3:27camp, the Judases that are always present and prevalent and
- 3:32always trying to stir up strife and always trying to stir up
- 3:37discord. And God cannot stand it for
- 3:40somebody to try to disband and for somebody to try to cause
- 3:46disunity within a community. And Paul here is saying that
- 3:50they are dearly beloved and they are longed for and that they are
- 3:56his crown that he has warned as a victor and who he's run the
- 4:01race. And he doesn't know how this
- 4:03trial is going to end before Nero.
- 4:06And so he's saying you are the crown of the victorious runner.
- 4:11I've ran the race well and I you have been established and are
- 4:15thriving. And I wear you as a crown on my
- 4:18head, too. I beg Udias, and beg sin tight
- 4:26that they be of the same mind in the Lord.
- 4:30So he wants this unity. He does not want that wily old
- 4:34devil to come in and to stir up all kinds of negativity and
- 4:42backbiting and gossip. And we do not know what this
- 4:46little disagreement was, but Paul desperately wanted the
- 4:51church there to remain in the same mind. 1 Spirit and one mind
- 4:58of Christ Jesus. Three.
- 5:01I entreat you also, true Yoke fellow, help those women which
- 5:07labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with
- 5:13other my fellow laborers whose name are in the book of life.
- 5:19You know, whenever the disciples came back and they were
- 5:21marveling that the demons were subject to him, Christ said do
- 5:24not marvel that the demons are subject to you, but marvel that
- 5:28your name is written in the Lamb's book of life.
- 5:30And that is what you need to press for.
- 5:33That is what we earnestly yearn for, friends, is to have our
- 5:41names written in the Lamb's book of life and to remain their
- 5:45friends. And to not be moved and to be
- 5:49steadfast in all of our convictions and not allow this
- 5:54world to water us down. And to not turn our backs on God
- 5:59and to not become the apostate church.
- 6:02To not renounce our faith, but to stay in the fold, stay in the
- 6:08book of life, friends. And he's talking about Clement
- 6:11here and he's Speaking of him very positively, this true yoke
- 6:15fellow as well. And he's telling them to make
- 6:19sure that this yuteus and this sin tight, they are homogeneous
- 6:25and they are of 1 accord and one mind, and they are not causing
- 6:30all kinds of strife and division within the church for rejoice in
- 6:36the Lord always. Again, I say rejoice.
- 6:42This is like a commandment from Paul.
- 6:44He's saying, rejoice. I'm going to tell you again,
- 6:47rejoice. You know, when a parent has to
- 6:49repeat himself twice, they mean what they say.
- 6:52They want you to lock in. They want you to make sure that
- 6:55you're not glossing over. And Paul is telling us that the
- 6:59key to this unity is rejoicing. If you find a negative person
- 7:08who is very critical, it is because they have chosen this
- 7:14negativity in this criticism. We must choose joy.
- 7:19We must choose to rejoice. And there is a lot to rejoice
- 7:24over. Today is a present.
- 7:28Today is a gift. You do not know if you're going
- 7:32to get tomorrow. You do not know if this is your
- 7:35last day on planet Earth. And 10 out of 10 people die.
- 7:43And we have a lot to be thankful for and a lot to rejoice over
- 7:48for today. There's a lot of people who did
- 7:51not wake up today. But if you are hearing this,
- 7:54then you are among the living, and there is much to rejoice
- 8:00over. There's still a chance for you,
- 8:03friends. There's still a chance that you
- 8:05can come into the fold. There's a lot to be thankful for
- 8:10and to rejoice. And we need to look past all of
- 8:14our worries and cares, all the things that try to strangle out
- 8:18the joy in our life. And we need to reach and depress
- 8:22and to grab a hold of Jesus's joy that was set before him.
- 8:29And we need to know that we have eternal life, and no matter what
- 8:33this world throws at us, our inheritance is far greater, and
- 8:37we can have joy in any circumstance.
- 8:41And Paul is telling them to have that joy, and that will cause
- 8:46them to get along. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all
- 8:52men. The Lord is at hand.
- 8:55Can you say that? Do you know that?
- 8:57Are you not trying to live excessively?
- 9:00This pride of life is not from God.
- 9:05We live moderately on purpose. It's not that we do not have the
- 9:14drive for more, but we level and regulate our lives in a way
- 9:21where we are able to give God our best, which is spending time
- 9:27with your family. It is in evangelizing others.
- 9:32It is in things that perhaps won't make us a single red cent,
- 9:39but they are the greater things. They are the things that matter
- 9:44for eternal we. We store up for ourselves
- 9:49treasures in heaven that moth and rust do not destroy, and
- 9:54thieves cannot break in and steal, Friends.
- 9:57These earthly treasures are of nothing whenever the second
- 10:03destruction comes by fire and it'll all be burned up, friends.
- 10:08And we do not need to store up so much hay that we have to
- 10:11build another barn. We need to live our lives open
- 10:15handed, friends, and we should pray for just enough friends.
- 10:21But we will be. We will be rewarded abundantly.
- 10:28If we will not make this life about the here and the now, if
- 10:32we will see that what is next is far superior than anything that
- 10:38we could ever experience on planet Earth, then you will gain
- 10:45a reward that no one can take from you.
- 10:51And that calls for wisdom. And we do not need to be so
- 10:56incredibly steeped in selfish greed and gain and trying to
- 11:05amass for ourselves enough so that we have security.
- 11:11But we need to live moderately. We need to choose to live on a
- 11:17level that is modest so that we can be approachable for all
- 11:23walks of life, for every person, no matter their background.
- 11:28That we are relative to them and we're not so far out of their
- 11:35ball field that they do not feel comfortable talking to us, but
- 11:40we are not so incredibly far away from them in our aloofness
- 11:52that we are not attainable on that side of the coin either.
- 11:56We need to stay fluid. We need to stay in the middle.
- 12:00We need to stay at this conservative level so that no
- 12:06matter what walk of life somebody is living in, we are
- 12:13approachable and attainable and we do not seem so far beyond
- 12:19where they're at in life. And he's saying the Lord is at
- 12:24hand. Do we truly believe that,
- 12:26friends? Do we truly believe that our
- 12:30redemption is drawing near and it's closer today than it was
- 12:34yesterday? If we did, and if we live like
- 12:37that, this world would look different.
- 12:40Don't make it about the here and the now, make it about Christ
- 12:44Jesus and what he did for us, and count the cost and see that
- 12:49there is nothing on this earth that even compares to him. 6 be
- 12:56careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
- 12:59supplication with Thanksgiving, let your requests be made known
- 13:04unto God. So He's telling us that it is OK
- 13:08to not only pray, but to make our requests for the things that
- 13:14we need also known to God. And we don't even understand
- 13:19this prayer life and how it all works in the spiritual realm.
- 13:24And if we could tap into it and if we could see it, we'd spend a
- 13:27whole lot more time in prayer if we truly understood what happens
- 13:32when we start to pray. God dispatches angels and he
- 13:38moves mountains and people get set free from bondage and the
- 13:46demonic run and flee at the name of Jesus.
- 13:49And we do not need to hold back on this communication that God
- 13:55desires, friends. And a lot of times they'll be
- 13:59things that happen in your life that push you into the prayer
- 14:03closet. But we need to make sure that we
- 14:05are already praying without ceasing before any of the things
- 14:11happen that cause us to pray. 7 And the peace of God, which
- 14:17which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
- 14:21through Christ Jesus. We set our hearts and minds upon
- 14:25Christ Jesus, and there are so many things that we could never
- 14:28comprehend. It is beyond our finite
- 14:33intelligence. It is beyond the capacity of our
- 14:39intellect, friends, but we trust that Christ Jesus, the Creator
- 14:45of everything, seen and unseen, friends, that he has told us and
- 14:50He has gave us the mandate to pray.
- 14:54And that we trust that when we pray, not if but when we pray,
- 14:58that things are happening that we will never see on this side,
- 15:06that we'll only get to see and to know what was happening
- 15:10whenever we are fully there with Him.
- 15:18Hey, finally, brothers, whatsoever things are true,
- 15:21whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just,
- 15:26whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
- 15:30whatsoever things are good, report.
- 15:32If there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on
- 15:37these things. All the battles are won or lost
- 15:40in the mind, friends. And if we're putting into the
- 15:43mind all of the evil, all of the demonic, all of the wickedness,
- 15:51all of the horror, horror and horrible things and the
- 15:56perversity. And if we're putting into our
- 15:59minds and thinking upon unforgiveness and wrath, if
- 16:04we're putting into our minds things and we're thinking that
- 16:08the mind is a place where we can just think upon anything and no
- 16:12one really knows what it is that we're thinking, only ourselves,
- 16:15that is garbage. Friends, we have to discipline
- 16:22our minds. We have to yield our thoughts
- 16:29over to Jesus Christ. And He tells us here how to win
- 16:35the battle. It is by in the quiet times, it
- 16:39is upon think. It's about thinking upon Him,
- 16:42friends. Think upon Jesus Christ
- 16:45everything that is good and lovely, wholesome and pure.
- 16:48Just friends. These are the things we meditate
- 16:52upon, and we meditate upon them 24 hours a day, seven days a
- 16:56week. And every time something
- 16:58horrible comes into your mind, you take it captive and replace
- 17:03it with things that are good and wholesome and lovely, and not
- 17:09meditate upon all of the disgusting, wicked, perverse
- 17:14things that this world tries to inundate us with.
- 17:20Friends, get rid of those things.
- 17:22The moment they come into your mind, subdue them.
- 17:26Get rid of them, kick them out. Take them out into the streets
- 17:30and burn them. Meditate upon the things that
- 17:34are lovely and of good report. 9 Those things which you have both
- 17:40learned and received and heard and seen in me do, and the God
- 17:45of peace shall be with you. That is what you're going to
- 17:48find if you'll meditate upon all of these virtuous things.
- 17:52You're going to find the peace of God living and ruling and
- 17:56reigning in you. And Paul says, Just remember how
- 18:01I mirrored and modeled this for you. 10 But I rejoiced in the
- 18:06Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me has
- 18:11flourished again, wherein you were also careful, but you
- 18:16lacked opportunity. So this is the whole point of
- 18:21the letter that Paul is writing to the church at Philippi.
- 18:27He's wanting to commend them for their graciousness of sending a
- 18:32gift to him. And Paul here is encouraging
- 18:40them and saying thank you for that gift.
- 18:43You had the opportunity and you took it, and no one can take it
- 18:47away from them. It is a heavenly treasure that
- 18:55will never rust or never fade. 11 Not that I speak in respect
- 19:02of want, for I have learned in whatsoever state I am there with
- 19:08to be content. So he's saying that he's very
- 19:12grateful for the gift that they gave him, but he wants them to
- 19:16know that no matter what state he has found himself in, he has
- 19:22learned the art of contentment. And I want you to know, friends,
- 19:26that godliness with contentment is of great gain.
- 19:30And there are many people who are so discontent that they have
- 19:33pierced themselves with many sorrows because they cannot take
- 19:39inventory and see just how blessed they are.
- 19:44And so they always think that it's the next thing that is
- 19:47going to get them to be happy, and it never does.
- 19:51And Paul here is going to speak on that verse 12.
- 19:54I know how. I know both how to be a based
- 19:58and I know how to abound everywhere.
- 20:02And in all things I am instructed both.
- 20:05To be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer
- 20:09need. He's saying.
- 20:10No matter what circumstance I find myself in, I have
- 20:16contentment. Can you say that today, friends,
- 20:19if you are in jail or if you are free, if you are homeless or if
- 20:24you have a home, if you have food or you have none, if you
- 20:29have transportation or you do not?
- 20:31Can you say no matter what circumstance you find yourself
- 20:35in today, that you can be content in Christ Jesus?
- 20:40I pray that that's your story. 13 I can do all things through
- 20:46Christ, which strengthens me. And we know apart from Christ we
- 20:51can do nothing. But with Christ we can do all
- 20:56things, friends, because we are connected to the power source,
- 21:00the only power in all the universe that sustains all life.
- 21:10And we are attached to that power source.
- 21:13And that is why we can do all things with Him, and we can do
- 21:17nothing without Him. 14 Notwithstanding, you have well
- 21:23done that. You did communicate with my
- 21:27affliction. So Paul is commending them again
- 21:30for sending the gift to him. Even though he's learned
- 21:33contentment, he's very grateful for their gift. 15 Now you
- 21:39Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel,
- 21:45when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me
- 21:51as concerning giving and receiving, but you only.
- 21:55So the Philippians have a very special place as they were the
- 22:02very first church to ever give to the ministry of Paul.
- 22:08Paul was a tent maker and he was self supporting.
- 22:11And here this Philippian church went above and beyond anything
- 22:15that he had ever asked. And they took it upon themselves
- 22:20to send him a gift because he established this church and they
- 22:24wanted to do something for Paul. And you can see why Paul was so
- 22:28affectionate with this church. 16 For even in Thessalonica you
- 22:35sent once and again unto my necessity.
- 22:39So here they are, repetitive givers to the ministry of Paul.
- 22:4317 Not because I desire a gift, but I desire fruit that may
- 22:49abound to your account. That's what Paul was after.
- 22:52He wasn't after the money. He wanted them to be blessed,
- 22:59and for it to be accounted to their account.
- 23:03This fruitfulness which giving is a natural overflow of a life
- 23:09that is marked by the giver. And we give because God gave
- 23:15first friends, and it is far better to give than it is to
- 23:19receive. 18 But I have all, and abound.
- 23:26I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which
- 23:32were sent from you, an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice
- 23:40acceptable and well pleasing to God.
- 23:43So Paul here is letting these Philippians know that they did a
- 23:48wonderful thing that God was well pleased with, and they will
- 23:53not, they will not lose their reward for what they did for
- 24:03Him. And it is wonderful when we can
- 24:07do things that are a pleasing aroma unto God. 19 But my God
- 24:18will supply all your need according to his riches in glory
- 24:26by Christ Jesus. That is what you need to know.
- 24:31There is no lack in the Father's house.
- 24:34He owns the cattle on 1000 Hills Friends.
- 24:38And if there is perceived lack in your house, it is because the
- 24:42Lord is desirous for you to take inventory, take stock, to look
- 24:47around to see all the blessings that he's already given you.
- 24:51And we need to take care of the things that he's given us.
- 24:54We need to make sure that we are grateful and we have an attitude
- 24:59of gratitude and that we are actually looking at the things
- 25:05that we have before we go looking for the things that we
- 25:08don't have. And we have discontentment.
- 25:11Far be it from us, friends, to be spoiled little children who
- 25:16just want more and more and more and more, and we're dissatisfied
- 25:19with all the things that God has already given us. 20 Now unto
- 25:26God and our Father be glory forever and ever, Amen.
- 25:32That is why we live the lives that we do.
- 25:36That is why we do the things that we do.
- 25:39That is why we say the things that we say.
- 25:42That is why we work the jobs that we work.
- 25:45That is why we do everything is for the glory of God Almighty.
- 25:51Friends. 21 Salute every St. in Christ Jesus, the brothers which
- 25:56are with me greet you. 22 All the Saints salute you, chiefly
- 26:02they that are of Caesar's household. 23 The grace of our
- 26:06Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
- 26:08Amen. Imagine that Paul's imprisonment
- 26:13somehow has even touched the household of Caesar.
- 26:21You can see God using all of the things that the enemy meant for
- 26:26evil, God is using for good. And he will take your misery and
- 26:30turn it into a ministry, friends.
- 26:34And here Paul understands that all of these things that have
- 26:39happened to him are for the glory of God Almighty.
- 26:45Can you say that today everything that you're going
- 26:48through is to bring God more glory?
- 26:52It's not about you, it's all about Him.
- 26:55I hope that you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 26:58Word. I know I sure have.
- 27:00I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 27:15I love you. Don't lose heart, keep the
- 27:24faith, God will reward you. Do time.
- 27:33God bless you. We'll see you back here
- 27:34tomorrow.
