- 0:00Do you have a copy of God's word in your hand?
- 0:03We live in a time where that is available.
- 0:06Can you imagine being in the times of the Apostles where if
- 0:09you wanted to see something in the scriptures, you have to run
- 0:12to your local synagogue and sit there patiently because they
- 0:16didn't have references for chapters and verses and peel
- 0:20through different Scrolls. Somebody in Authority had to be
- 0:23there in the presence to point to a prophecy that you're
- 0:27interested of or something of the sort today.
- 0:30Day you can get God's word. Would skin leathered and there's
- 0:37various other options. So we have no excuse not to have
- 0:42a copy of it. Meet me in the copy that you
- 0:45have in 2nd Samuel 11 as we are now coming to the final
- 0:50installment of this chapter together.
- 0:56And put your finger there in verse 15.
- 0:59Second Samuel, 11 verse 15. Who would have thought that
- 1:04David's neglect? Of being in the will of God and
- 1:10the beginning of this chapter would evolve into David,
- 1:13becoming a murderer by the end of the chapter.
- 1:18I'm sure the study of this man's life.
- 1:19Especially at this point has been nothing short of shocking.
- 1:23For many of us, especially for someone who is as remarkable.
- 1:28And as praised as King, David was but the idea that we have
- 1:33here is that David Proves that sin is no respecter of persons.
- 1:40Sins. Aim is the same for the lowliest
- 1:44of the palace as it is for the ruler of the Kingdom.
- 1:50Its goal is to survive long enough to wreak, havoc in you
- 1:58through you around you, and before you and its primary
- 2:03source of strength in our lives to create that ripple effect is
- 2:09through our tolerance Ace of it. Through our justification of it
- 2:14through our pleasure in it. And unfortunately what we're
- 2:18seeing here is just that we are witnessing the downfall of a man
- 2:23of God and what David is trying to do is bury his sin but what
- 2:29he's not realizing is that he's also burying himself.
- 2:34He is also leading himself into a deeper pit of pain and misery
- 2:39that he will unfortunately have to sit in for quite some time.
- 2:45And as we come to this point, we realize that the consequences of
- 2:49his actions could have. Could have been put to a stop.
- 2:53If he had just confessed his sin as early as possible, all he has
- 2:58been doing is adding fuel to the fire through his concealment,
- 3:02that concealment Is Like Oxygen to a fire and it is only growing
- 3:07more and more and more and is becoming more and more severe.
- 3:13And David, we see here learned that as we saw last week, could
- 3:18not could not get Uriah to be with Bathsheba and a physical
- 3:24sense so that he could, he could cover his sin through the
- 3:27explanation of natural means. And because of this, instead of
- 3:33taking it as a hint of Divine Providence, trying to put him in
- 3:37his place, he instead now comes up with a Unthinkable
- 3:42heart-wrenching scheme. The conclusion that David makes
- 3:47at this point of his plan to try to save face is to kill an
- 3:53innocent man, it's to murder Uriah He wakes up one morning
- 3:59and he is quick to execute. He does not waste any time
- 4:02because time is not in his favor, the longer, he waits the
- 4:06longer he delays, the more suspicious, he looks And so he
- 4:11does not hesitate to write the death warrant of this man to put
- 4:14it in his hands and to have them walk with it to the very place
- 4:18that he will be executed unjustly.
- 4:22And you can almost read. David's thoughts.
- 4:27When we learn that, he woke up that morning, what it must have
- 4:29been like, for him, internally the night before, as he was
- 4:32tossing and turning contemplating what to do,
- 4:35because this meant Integrity is getting in the way of his
- 4:39attempt to try to seem righteous and clean and innocent.
- 4:45It's almost as though something along the lines of fine.
- 4:49Fine. You don't want to be with your
- 4:52wife so that it could seem like this baby is yours.
- 4:56Then I will be the husband of your wife.
- 5:01And if it means to get rid of you, then, so be it.
- 5:06And that's essentially what he is doing.
- 5:09He is now going to try to take you riah's place as the husband,
- 5:15so that it can seem like this baby, that would come into the
- 5:18world came through the confines of a righteous marriage.
- 5:23When everything about this is totally, totally unrighteous And
- 5:28so I'm going to read these verses as we conclude this
- 5:31chapter and we're going to do what we usually do.
- 5:33Open it up for you to make some observations and then we're
- 5:35going to try to in a concise way, get to important matters of
- 5:40this tax that the Holy Spirit has given to us.
- 5:42So they were there in verse 15, I hope In the letter, he wrote
- 5:49Set Uriah in the Forefront of the hardest fighting and then
- 5:53draw back from him that he may be struck down and die.
- 5:59And as Joy was besieging the city he assigned Uriah to the
- 6:02place where he knew that there were Valiant men and the men of
- 6:06the city came out and fought with joab and some of the
- 6:09Servants of David among the People Fell.
- 6:13Uriah, the hittite also died. Then job sent and told David all
- 6:18the news about the fighting and he instructed the messenger,
- 6:22when you have finished telling all the news about the fighting
- 6:25to the king, then, if the Kings anger Rises.
- 6:29And if he says to you, why did you go so near the city to
- 6:32fight? Did you not know that they would
- 6:35shoot from the wall who killed Abby Malik, the son of Gera
- 6:39Boucher that djerba sheth the not a woman cast an upper Stone
- 6:43on him from the wall so that he died at the Bez.
- 6:46Why did you go so near the wall? Then you shall say your servant
- 6:50Uriah the hittite is dead. Also.
- 6:55So the messenger went and came and told David all that job had
- 6:57sent him to tell the messenger said to David, the men gain an
- 7:01advantage over us and came out against us in the field but we
- 7:04drove them back to the entrance of the gate.
- 7:07Then the archers shot at your servants from the wall.
- 7:09Some of the king's servants are dead and your servant Uriah the
- 7:13hittite is dead. Also, David said to the
- 7:17messenger, thus you shall say to joab?
- 7:21Do not let this matter. Displease you for the sword
- 7:24devours? Now one, and now, another
- 7:27strengthen your attack against the city and overthrow it and
- 7:30encourage him. When the wife of Uriah heard
- 7:33that you are, her husband was dead.
- 7:35She lamented over her husband. And when the morning was over,
- 7:39David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his
- 7:43wife and bore him a son, But the thing that David had done
- 7:48displeased the Lord powerful, anything jump out to you.
- 7:55Anything significant important. Yes.
- 8:07Yeah. Is that an interesting attitude?
- 8:10That's okay though. It is just happens.
- 8:12You just this just this is what war is about.
- 8:14Yes that's it. That's a strange response to the
- 8:16death of an innocent man. Yeah, he kind of Skips the part
- 8:34of David, potentially getting angry and he just says, hey,
- 8:37you're either had his dead just so avoid that awkward
- 8:40confrontation. Sure.
- 8:41That's an observation. Yes.
- 8:45Yeah, you ride the hittite so we're seeing that the background
- 8:49of this man repeated to us. Remind us that this is not an
- 8:51Israelite and what a terrible witness to this man, what a
- 8:55terrible treatment of a man who trusted not just the god of
- 8:57Israel but the people who claim to be the people of God, sure.
- 9:02Anything else. Very good.
- 9:09Now, job is involved in this mess.
- 9:13Now you have an accomplice. Now you have somebody joining in
- 9:16in your effort to try to cover your mess.
- 9:19Yeah. Absolutely job is now included
- 9:21in all of this. Makes you wonder if job smelled
- 9:25something fishy? This is really strange.
- 9:29What's happening here? Yes.
- 9:41Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:44Now now they're just playing Secrets, right?
- 9:47And and they're trying to now jobs in on this and he's trying
- 9:49to conceal it through the messenger and they're they're
- 9:51both not working together to try to make this seem like it was
- 9:54some accident and David just wants to put it at rest and he
- 9:58just says, let's just get over it.
- 9:59Move on the job is done. They're speaking almost encode
- 10:02to one another. Yes.
- 10:24Yeah, this is starting to get really, really?
- 10:28Disappointing in many ways because there's collateral
- 10:30damage. Now, now you have other innocent
- 10:33parties that are getting affected and we're going to
- 10:35touch on that in a moment. Yes.
- 10:52Very, very good. Observation job seems to be
- 10:56acting upon very little information and it makes jobs
- 11:01character, not shine as much as it should have well touch on
- 11:06that as well. Yes.
- 11:27Could it be that job is using this to one-up on David for
- 11:31maybe his past mistakes? And so he's willing to allow it
- 11:35to happen. Ah, now we're getting it to
- 11:37politics, right? Yes.
- 11:38Peter and then Laurie. Yeah.
- 11:47Yes, right, that happened in. What book?
- 11:49Who remembers what book that happened in judges?
- 11:52That's right. Did you want to add to that law?
- 11:54Yes. Hmm, interesting thought very,
- 12:17very good observations. Yes, right. so, I'm thinking
- 12:31potentially You could have. But the submission of Uriah.
- 12:43Yeah, he was a mighty man. He was a valiant man, he was a
- 12:47warrior. He was a strategist himself.
- 12:49I mean he was he was promoted to be among the 30.
- 12:52So maybe even Uriah himself saw that.
- 12:54This isn't probably the best of advancements, but I'm going to
- 12:57submit to my commander and it was, it was a death of him but
- 13:01that's, that's humility. Yes, David.
- 13:09Yeah. Makes you wonder if she knew.
- 13:14I don't think she knew what David plotted.
- 13:17It makes you wonder if she was even with scripture doesn't say
- 13:19if she was slightly relieved, we do see that she lamented?
- 13:22We can take that for what it is. That she was genuinely broken
- 13:25that her husband had passed. Yes, really.
- 13:52That's right. It is a long time to think you
- 13:55got away with something. Yeah.
- 13:59Yeah, that's right. Good.
- 14:01Good, very good. And that's going to be an
- 14:02important reminder. As we come to next week's, study
- 14:04to see that some time had passed before David was exposed.
- 14:08Yes, last one. Not so many people would have
- 14:18died within. Yes, absolutely.
- 14:20We're going to find out exactly why it is that people died in
- 14:24this story. It could have been avoided,
- 14:28could have been avoided. Are we ready?
- 14:30Let's come together now, to verse 15.
- 14:33It's clear that David here is attempted to make you riyas.
- 14:36Death seem like an accident of War.
- 14:39We talked about that last week, but it's worth bringing up again
- 14:42that when you and I try to cover our sin and concealed Our
- 14:47hypocrisy, it will always include the adoption of some
- 14:51level of deception. And in David's, case to
- 14:53deception is only increasing. And it is only extending and
- 14:56touching more people's lives Even parties that were not
- 15:00initially involved with the Scandal.
- 15:03And so now he is, he's affecting other people, inviting other
- 15:06people, and other people are being influenced.
- 15:08All they want nothing to do with this matter.
- 15:11And you have to you have to think it is an exhausting and
- 15:15miserable way of life to try. To convince others that you are
- 15:19righteous. It's just it's it will drain
- 15:23you. Some people have more stamina
- 15:25for it than others but regardless what we see here in a
- 15:29very subtle way is that the fate of such people is the same and
- 15:33it is this that in the pursuit of clever cunning lies at some
- 15:39point at some point. You will be exposed at some
- 15:43point. And we actually already see that
- 15:45to some level here in this verse might be wondering, how David is
- 15:50not being very clear. Is he with this charge?
- 15:53He's not, he's not giving enough reason for such a drastic
- 15:57decision to be made. And so when job receives this
- 16:02letter, a very short short and straight to the point kind of
- 16:06instruction, there's there's too much missing here that leaves
- 16:10the The possibility for great doubt to arise even, enjoy,
- 16:17even. Enjoy job was an intelligent,
- 16:19man, as well. He was very, very, very
- 16:21intelligent. He was a strategist, and he knew
- 16:23David and he knew his men including Uriah, and it just
- 16:28didn't line up for Uriah to be set up intentionally so that he
- 16:33can be in a very vulnerable position to the enemy's attacks
- 16:36and be left for dead. And so this this should have
- 16:41raised Steve Jobs, eyebrow. We're not told his thoughts,
- 16:45were not told exactly what he thought in this moment, but it
- 16:50does make you wonder if this meant put the pieces together,
- 16:53when he would hear down the road, that David married,
- 16:57uriah's wife And if he investigated just a little bit
- 17:00of you were to realize that the timing of this is just, it's
- 17:04creating a scenario that you would hope is not true.
- 17:08And then the timing of the birth of that child job wasn't inside
- 17:11Circle. He was not an outsider.
- 17:13He was not, he was not somebody distant, he was very much
- 17:16involved with the Affairs of the King's life.
- 17:19He would have known, he would have received the exact details.
- 17:22And if this man was an intelligent, man, as we have,
- 17:24every reason to believe he would have put it together.
- 17:27Do you see what's happening here?
- 17:29And David thinking that he's actually achieving success in
- 17:33his deceit. He's actually getting sloppy,
- 17:36he's getting sloppy. And the principle here is so
- 17:39loud and so clear. And it is this that even the
- 17:43most talented of deceivers, we'll end up at some point
- 17:48exposing themselves unintentionally.
- 17:52And David here is already doing that.
- 17:54Never mind, trying to fool God and think that you and I can can
- 17:57trick him. But sin is able in a creative
- 18:02way to even tell on us to others.
- 18:06Unsuspecting people, it is quite fascinating to see how sin has a
- 18:11way of surfacing before some that we never thought it would
- 18:15come too. And find its way around to the
- 18:20people that it matters. There's so many examples of this
- 18:23in the scriptures are from cover to cover.
- 18:25So many things were crashing in my mind and one of the clearest
- 18:29examples of this is with a man that you wouldn't think would
- 18:32succumb to a life of deception and it is it's Abraham's son.
- 18:36What's his name? Isaac?
- 18:39And like, father like son, right there is a plague that hits a
- 18:43famine that hits and he goes to pagans and he takes Refuge among
- 18:47them. And he has a fear that his
- 18:50father had. He also had a very beautiful
- 18:52Wife and he was in a society that did not fear God.
- 18:55And so this, this strategy arises, I will convince the
- 18:58people who live under the reign of Abby Malik.
- 19:02And I will tell him that that my wife is who she's my sister.
- 19:07She's my sister so that that has nothing to do with me.
- 19:11I'm not responsible for, I don't oversee her.
- 19:13She's not, she doesn't belong to me.
- 19:14So, I'm just going to throw her under the bus and whatever you
- 19:18want to do. You can do, but just just keep
- 19:20me out of it. And so he tells the people, she
- 19:24is my sister and then I want you to see this actually turn to
- 19:27Genesis 26. I want you to see the wording
- 19:29that the Holy Spirit provides for us in Isaac's attempt to
- 19:33like David conceal. Something that is that is true
- 19:38to be something that is not true.
- 19:44And the consequences of this varies depending on the nature
- 19:47of the light itself. A look at 26 of Genesis verse 6.
- 19:52So Isaac settled in guerard, when the men of the palace asked
- 19:55him about his wife, he said she's my sister.
- 20:00For he feared to say my wife thinking less, the men of the
- 20:02place should kill me because of Rebecca because she was
- 20:05attractive and appearance. Now, look at verse 8, this is
- 20:08the point that I want to try to make when he had been there a
- 20:13long time. Abby met, like King of the
- 20:16Philistines looked out of a window and saw Isaac laughing
- 20:20with Rebecca. His wife the King James says,
- 20:23what my King James people sporting, and they weren't
- 20:26playing foosball or anything. The where there is some kind of
- 20:31an innuendo. It's there is caressing.
- 20:33There is a flirting things that you don't do with your sister
- 20:37essentially. But do you see the wording here?
- 20:41We're told in verse 8 when it had been a long time when Isaac
- 20:46had been there a long time. You know, it's possible.
- 20:54To be living a lie for a long time.
- 20:58It's possible to convince people of a lie for a long time.
- 21:04The Bible is very honest about that.
- 21:07But that like I can't last forever, that's that's the point
- 21:11here. And many people take comfort and
- 21:13thinking that something has been going on in the background for a
- 21:16long time and nobody seems to have caught on but then what do
- 21:20we see here that at a particular moment when they thought they
- 21:24were in private, when they thought that they were
- 21:26succeeding benefiting from this Kingdom, avoiding a plague and
- 21:32Isaac being safe from any harm. IV, Malik.
- 21:35Just happens to come to one of his windows out of the many
- 21:38windows that he had and looks out.
- 21:39And at that specific moment. He sees Isaac sporting with his
- 21:46sister. What do we call that Divine
- 21:51Providence? That's what we call that.
- 21:54This is not coincidence. It's not happenstance.
- 21:57This is not random. This was God in some way and
- 22:02thus, with his invisible hand, without a miraculous
- 22:06intervention, so to speak, allowing his precious child to
- 22:11be exposed so that he can be closer to the place of
- 22:15repentance and be in the will of God and that includes
- 22:20transparency. And walking in the light.
- 22:22Divine Providence is always at work.
- 22:25My brother, my sister Divine Providence is always at it.
- 22:29Ever is put on pause, never, it's always playing.
- 22:35And here's the thing when we're walking in conscious obedience,
- 22:38it's always in our favor, always God moves the pieces so that we
- 22:43can move and graduate in godliness and in his will for
- 22:46our lives. But when we are outside of his
- 22:48will intentionally It works to discipline us.
- 22:55And what you see here with Isaac is that he thought after a long
- 22:58time he would get away with it. But here is a man who sees them
- 23:03they don't see him and they're caught and the confronted and
- 23:09they have to come to a place of confessing the truth or else you
- 23:12would be in a different kind of trouble.
- 23:15So, what's happening here? This is one of God's laws of the
- 23:18universe at work and it never stops working just like the law
- 23:22of gravity. You can, you can count on this
- 23:25law being always in effect. As a law of gravity is
- 23:29continually in effect that when we conceal it will eventually be
- 23:33revealed. That's it that's a log that's
- 23:35that's a lot of strong as any other scientific law.
- 23:38This is a law that is continually in operation.
- 23:43But it's more than just God's Divine Providence here.
- 23:46There's also something to be said about the weakness that we
- 23:50develop the foolishness that we inherit when we are living in
- 23:54darkness listen, when you and I walking in righteousness, we
- 23:57have enough blind spots of our own is that not true?
- 24:00When we intentionally want to be true Disciples of Jesus Christ,
- 24:03there are some things in our lives that we don't see that, we
- 24:06need the church, the the corporate body to help us
- 24:09identify how much more when you and I are living in darkness.
- 24:15How much more do we miss? How much more is our judgment
- 24:17clouded? And so we see here with Isaac,
- 24:20just like, with David as consistent, as they thought they
- 24:24were eventually, because you have God's Providence was is
- 24:27enough and the sloppiness that we inherit because of our sin
- 24:32things are going to happen. Things will be exposed.
- 24:35Things will slip and sin is very slippery.
- 24:38You think you can hold on to it? You think you can have a grip on
- 24:40it but at one point it just you lose that grip.
- 24:44It tends to make a mess. So we see here even in this
- 24:47letter that he's creating some red flags and verse 16 of our
- 24:53chapter. We read and his job was
- 24:55besieging the city. He assigned, you a ride to the
- 24:56place where he knew that there were Valiant men.
- 25:01Now we see something on job side, we've already made mention
- 25:04of it, the orders come from David.
- 25:07And job complies like, there's no questions.
- 25:11There's no hesitation, there's no.
- 25:13Why is this being given? No, no request for any kind of
- 25:17clarification. He just gives in right away and
- 25:21some would excuse jobs pliability because they would
- 25:24say he's just taking orders and he's under pressure, and he
- 25:28doesn't want to question authority, but if you and I are
- 25:30familiar with jobs history with David.
- 25:34Then you will know something about Joy.
- 25:36He did not find it difficult to stand up against David when he
- 25:40did. Not agree with him is that not
- 25:42true many many times when David asked for something job would
- 25:46stand up and disagree. And so we know that job was a
- 25:51man who had his own opinion. We know that job was a man who
- 25:54knew what was right in knew what was wrong.
- 25:56Can I prove that to you? You're in second, Samuel lemon,
- 25:59go to 2nd Samuel 24 David at that point, once the senses to
- 26:02be made for Well, he wants to know how many men he has in his
- 26:06army. And he calls job as one of the
- 26:11leaders of this project and job in verse 3, of second Samuel,
- 26:1524, look what he says here. But job said to the king may the
- 26:20Lord your God and to the people 100 times, as many as they are.
- 26:25While the Eyes of My Lord, the King still see it.
- 26:27But why does my Lord the king the light in this thing?
- 26:32He's pushing back. He's questioning he's trying to
- 26:37hold him back from committing this grave sin which included
- 26:41pride. And when we get there, another
- 26:42scene that people miss that has to do with the book of Exodus.
- 26:46And so we see draw is willing to stand up against the king for
- 26:50righteousness sake. So how do we explain this?
- 26:53How is it that when this innocent man, you ride Joy of
- 26:55knew, who Uriah was job knew, his Integrity job knew his
- 26:59conviction. How is it that he's so willing
- 27:01to give in to this order without pushing back without any
- 27:05protest. Here's the thing we have to be
- 27:07honest, the Bible doesn't tell us the Bible doesn't tell us
- 27:10about Bible study helps. What do I mean by that?
- 27:14When you survey the scope of joy, Jobs resume.
- 27:18What you will notice is that job did not find it very difficult.
- 27:24To kill people, right? He killed people.
- 27:28He killed innocent people. And he was willing to do such a
- 27:34thing, never mind, never mind war, never mind Justified,
- 27:39reasons for killing. I'm talking about killing
- 27:41innocent parties. Whenever you see job doing that
- 27:46it is often motivated. By personal interest.
- 27:51In other words, whenever job recognize that somebody in his
- 27:56field was a Potential Threat to his position or his status, he
- 28:01was more than willing to remove them from the scene.
- 28:05We see that with Abner member Abner.
- 28:09We're going to see that in a few chapters with another man named
- 28:11a Mossad. Whenever there was somebody who
- 28:14rose up that could potentially push job out of the way and
- 28:19replace him, this man was so caught up in his status.
- 28:23His identity was so wrapped up in his title that he was willing
- 28:27to Slit. Somebody's throat if they even
- 28:30considered taking his position. and we don't know why he was
- 28:35willing to kill your eyes so quickly, but it makes you wonder
- 28:38if he had no problem allowing a mighty man like Uriah be
- 28:41slaughtered Could it be that? It's just one less person to
- 28:45worry about yes bro. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 28:58It's the same Spirit. It is the same reasoning that
- 29:02saw was willing to chase down David and get rid of him because
- 29:05he saw him as a potential rival to the throne.
- 29:09But here's what's happening with joab.
- 29:11Job is willing to reach so low because the severity of sin is
- 29:18often placed in the shadows of self interest.
- 29:22The severity of our sin, the severity of any sin is often
- 29:26veiled and pushed into the Shadows.
- 29:30While it is being eclipsed by self-interest murder, doesn't
- 29:33seem like such a big problem if it means that you get to keep
- 29:36what you really want. And job here seems to have no
- 29:44value or conviction concerning those who are created in the
- 29:47image of God. If he can hold onto the image
- 29:49that has been granted to him by David as the commander of his
- 29:52army. So he's willing to say, yes.
- 29:57Now we come to verse 17 and the men of the city came out and
- 30:00fought with job and some of the Servants of David among the
- 30:02People Fell Uriah, the hittite also also died.
- 30:07Something stands out here and it's worth mentioning because it
- 30:10has a profound principle. In order for joy.
- 30:16To blur the evidence of assassination.
- 30:21Look how clever he is, he sends and sacrifices other innocent
- 30:28servants. So that what is intended, for
- 30:32one person would make it seem like it was a mission gone bad.
- 30:37If he had just sent Uriah that would have, everybody would have
- 30:40caught on there something off here, but if you send Uriah with
- 30:43a platoon and they all die or most of them die, then it just
- 30:46looks like a bad leadership call and that's it.
- 30:52This is getting messy. This is getting very nasty.
- 30:55Okay? We have a man who is willing to
- 30:58kill one man, so he can, he can cover himself but it didn't stop
- 31:03there. Now, you have to kill more men.
- 31:05So your I was not the only one who died in this whole process.
- 31:08Now, you have other people other wives who lost their husbands
- 31:12other mothers who lost their sons, other siblings, who lost a
- 31:15brother. Because of one man who did not
- 31:19want to confess his sin and the point is so obvious.
- 31:23Is it not? oftentimes the entertainment of
- 31:28sin, Includes the pain of people that we did not intend to harm.
- 31:36The reach-in, the extent of our sin goes beyond what we planned
- 31:40and hoped for. And that is just the reality of
- 31:44the nature of sin. And one of the ugly fruits of
- 31:49selfish ambition when it lives, and when it thrives, is that it
- 31:55does not consider announce the well-being of others.
- 32:01A person who is dominated by self-interest is willing to
- 32:04bulldoze through the, through the piles of people before them
- 32:09without even thinking a second thought, there's no hesitation.
- 32:12There is no sense of this could actually do something.
- 32:17Now when somebody is absolutely consumed with satisfying, a
- 32:21desire that only considers that person, they are prepared to
- 32:26harm people along the way they are prepared to do so and that
- 32:30is exactly Lee what is happening here with a man?
- 32:32Like joab, who was completely consumed with self-interest and
- 32:35now David and you put these two guys together and it's going to
- 32:39get ugly. And it, is it, we're happy.
- 32:41We're seeing it right here. But listen, one of the signs of
- 32:44a healthy conscience. One of the fruits, one of the
- 32:48evidences of a Spirit Led heart and mind.
- 32:53Is that there is a constant consideration of others in the
- 32:58pursuit of our decisions and our planning's in our thoughts.
- 33:02That's how you know that the holy spirit is dominating your
- 33:05heart. And one way there is a radar
- 33:09that doesn't Just Have Your Existence bleeping on it.
- 33:13As it scans through your heart. There are other people that you
- 33:17have in mind when it comes to what it is that you want to do,
- 33:21or what it is that you don't want to do.
- 33:24And here's the thing, I mean, we see here in the context of War,
- 33:27we see it here in the context of actual physical War, right?
- 33:30People really losing their lives and you've heard me say this
- 33:34many times before, but one of the most detrimental ingredients
- 33:39to it. Local body moving forward in
- 33:41advancing and winning the battle.
- 33:43Battles of the spirit is selfish ambition, and it doesn't have to
- 33:47be in leadership. It does not have to be in
- 33:49leadership. I shared this verse a few weeks
- 33:51ago in a message, but you heard me Satan announcements
- 33:54repetition, is really good. I want to, I want to I want to
- 33:57tell you that in your marriage and your household in the local
- 34:02church that you're part of persistent.
- 34:05Peace is possible. It is you can no constant and
- 34:09not just constant maintenance, you can know a growth.
- 34:13In love and fruitfulness and peace and reconciliation but it
- 34:19requires one thing to be omitted.
- 34:21One thing to be eliminated, constantly washed away, cleansed
- 34:26targeted and shot down every single day.
- 34:30And Paul tells it it's in Philippians 2 in Philippians 2.
- 34:34He makes it so clear of the one poison.
- 34:39That needs to be drained constantly, in order for a same
- 34:44mind, Same Love, same goal to be realized with all of us who have
- 34:49different backgrounds, different personalities, and different
- 34:51issues in Philippians 2 to look what he says.
- 34:55Complete my joy. Complete my Joy by being of the
- 35:00same mind. Pause, it's possible to be of
- 35:03the same mind. It's possible for all of us with
- 35:06our different Ministries and different leadership skills, and
- 35:09different ideas of how things should be done.
- 35:11It's possible to be of the same mind, that's what he's saying.
- 35:15But not just that, having the Same Love.
- 35:18Having a mutual love and appreciation for others is
- 35:22possible in the church. Being in full Accord, not part
- 35:27Accord, not sub Accord full Accord.
- 35:31Can you imagine that? Can you imagine that once the
- 35:35excitement of a new ministry comes or a move of God, comes
- 35:38and Things become routine and people settle in and we do life
- 35:42with each other more and more because it's usually time that
- 35:46reveals trouble when people get comfortable one another.
- 35:49But can you imagine that as time goes on?
- 35:51There's still constant full of chord among the Brethren.
- 35:54It's Possible full Accord. And this is the, this is the
- 35:58reason. This is the this is the way it's
- 36:00possible. Verse 3, do nothing from selfish
- 36:02ambition. Do nothing from selfish ambition
- 36:07or conceit. That is how you achieve.
- 36:10One Mind One Love full of court. But the moment selfish ambition
- 36:16comes from any direction. Is a moment that that Foundation
- 36:21of such a possibility begins to be weakened.
- 36:25And even the most beautiful Ministry, the beautiful church
- 36:27family that knew so much history of love and joy can be corrupted
- 36:32and destroyed. Do nothing from selfish
- 36:35ambition. Nothing.
- 36:36Nothing nothing, nothing, nothing.
- 36:37Nothing. Not one thing can be done in
- 36:39selfish ambition or conceit but in humility count others, more
- 36:44significant than yourselves. And you will know the joy that
- 36:49Paul is speaking of this, remember that?
- 36:53Remember that, and you and I will know, Heaven on Earth.
- 36:57Even in Chicago, Illinois, believe it or not.
- 37:00But when a heart is hardened by self like what we see here, what
- 37:04an ugly picture murder happens and that's why James says you
- 37:07guys are killing each other. You guys are actually killing
- 37:10each other in James chapter 4. And he gives one of the reasons
- 37:13because you're eaten up by your passions.
- 37:15So Civil Wars, erupt and casualties are cause and splits
- 37:19happen, and people leave. And people that we love and that
- 37:22we were going to do this thing together forever with, and up
- 37:24disappearing from our life. Why?
- 37:26Because somehow, some way selfish ambition, got in the
- 37:28mix, got in the mix. That's what we're seeing here.
- 37:33People are dying literally dying because of one man, who would
- 37:37not let go of his sin who would not confess and it Come clean
- 37:39before God. That's come back to verse 18.
- 37:43then job sent and told David, all the news about the fighting
- 37:47and he instructed a messenger and he tells them what to say,
- 37:52And David here is unfortunately only going to provide more
- 37:54evidence of just how dark his heart has become.
- 37:59And it's shown here and how jaw prepares the message for the
- 38:01messenger to approach him. And he tells them, these
- 38:06Specific Instructions and job seems to be anticipating a very
- 38:10negative response to the news of a botched Mission.
- 38:15And so he's giving a heads up to this young messenger saying he
- 38:18might, erupt so get ready for that.
- 38:21And and the wording that he's giving implies that he knows
- 38:26David so well that he can almost predict exactly what he's going
- 38:30to say. That's how connected job was
- 38:32with David. But job also developed a new
- 38:36insight about David that revealed something he knew about
- 38:39him. And it was this, if you want to
- 38:42calm him down, all you have to say is Uriah is dead.
- 38:47Just say that Uriah is dead and I know, I know David, he will be
- 38:54at ease. He'll be calm and you will be
- 38:57spared from any Wrath of bringing bad news.
- 39:02This is how far David has come, that the news of the death of a
- 39:07man like Uriah would actually put him at peace.
- 39:14Think about that, he's become so warped by his iniquity that
- 39:18something such as this. Would actually bring him to a
- 39:24place of tranquility and rest is this the same guy?
- 39:30Who is this person? Now here's what's fascinating.
- 39:33When you go to chapter 12, you'll see David's reaction to a
- 39:38different Injustice. That was given in the form of a
- 39:41parable. So here's what's going to
- 39:43happen, Nathan. The prophet is going to come.
- 39:46He's going to call David. Hey, David, are you busy this
- 39:48afternoon? I just need to make a visit.
- 39:51He makes a visit and he gives David a parable and the
- 39:55summation of that. Parable is a rich man who had so
- 39:58much flock. If a guest comes over the rich,
- 40:02man does not take one from his own, but he finds a poor man who
- 40:06had one little ewe lamb, and that little ewe lamb was like a
- 40:09daughter. It was fed in his arms.
- 40:12It was, it was like family. Some of you have pets and that's
- 40:15true for you. And this rich man, takes that
- 40:18one little ewe lamb kills it, so that he can feed his guests and
- 40:23Nathan gives that Parable to David.
- 40:26And this is so strategic from the man of God, because David
- 40:29was a shepherd Bird. Oh, this would have made David,
- 40:32especially angry. And so, when David hears this,
- 40:36remember he's still hiding his sin.
- 40:38He thought he got away with his transgression.
- 40:41Look at his reaction in chapter 12 here in verse 5. then David's
- 40:48anger was greatly kindled against the man and he said to
- 40:52Nathan as the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves
- 40:57to die and he shall restore the lam for fold because he did this
- 41:02thing and because he had no pity, I looked at that and I
- 41:08thought to myself how interesting is it that David and
- 41:13his attitude when it came to responding to this man was some
- 41:17kind of expression of righteous Zeal but when it came to his own
- 41:21iniquity he seems undisturbed unmoved unconcerned And this is
- 41:30especially troubling, you know, why?
- 41:32Because the sin that David committed was much more severe
- 41:36What? This Parable was all about his
- 41:38sin was much more severe. He stole much more than just a
- 41:41beast. He stole the man's wife, he
- 41:44stole life. He stole so much in order to
- 41:49satisfy his lust, the lust that visited him.
- 41:54And yet. he is so quick to be able to judge somebody else's
- 42:00sin because, listen, a hardened heart is not only capable A
- 42:06failing to see the severity of their own wrong for some reason,
- 42:09it develops some strange boldness to be able to call out
- 42:13other people's sin and to judge other people's wrong and there
- 42:17are shortcomings and that kind of attitude provides a deceiving
- 42:23sound sense of justification because in that moment you are
- 42:26able to identify what is right and wrong.
- 42:29Only in others though not in yourself.
- 42:33And not only that listen, the hardened heart gets so gets so
- 42:37crazy and out of whack that not only is a person who is in
- 42:42willful sin. Not only is that person able to
- 42:45get up and preach on sin. So powerful, and convicted lie,
- 42:48for example, But is often harsher and more severe in the
- 42:56way they cracked. The whip of supposed
- 42:58righteousness and conviction on others.
- 43:01So what happens is? Hypocrites, often become
- 43:03legalistic Hippocrates often are accompanied with the
- 43:10characteristic of being legalistic and they project that
- 43:14legalism on others though they would never ever ever live.
- 43:17According to that same standard. And if they do, it's a standard
- 43:20that doesn't matter. According to the word of God and
- 43:22it's all a smokescreen for a genuine sin at they're
- 43:25committing. David in the response to this
- 43:29Parable from Nathan, what is he? What's the verdict that he
- 43:32makes? Let him die.
- 43:36Let him die. Nowhere in the law.
- 43:40Did God give the instruction for capital punishment for stealing
- 43:44somebody's animal. The instruction was restoration,
- 43:48but David takes it up to another level.
- 43:49He says, kill him. Kill him, hang him.
- 43:54That was unnecessary. But here's what happens when sin
- 43:58comes in. It makes us cold.
- 44:02It makes us harsh and makes us unfair when Christ comes in
- 44:06dominates our hearts, it creates a compassion and mercy Justice.
- 44:12Yes, But True. Justice.
- 44:15Even for the one who is in sin, there is a careful examination
- 44:19and a careful calculation. That's an operation.
- 44:22With the person who is truly having Christ dominating their
- 44:25lives by the spirit. But a person who attempts to
- 44:29teach or project or discipline or rebuke, others Is hardened by
- 44:33sin, will often replicate David's attitude and be more
- 44:37harsh, more severe, more unforgiving and more quick.
- 44:43To say things that not even God would say.
- 44:48This is this is getting complex as a not, but this is the whole
- 44:51point is to show us what happens.
- 44:54So that we would be afraid to ever entertain the idea of a
- 44:57duplicity life. It creates all these nasty
- 45:00cancers that erodes so powerfully.
- 45:03Yes, brother. Yes.
- 45:39Yeah, yeah that's a good observation to why does God
- 45:45allow these things to go on for so long?
- 45:47And you have people who are victims of other people's sin or
- 45:51a spouse's unfaithfulness or the hurt of a church leader,
- 45:55whatever the case may be, and often the question that comes up
- 45:58and I've heard this question, why did God wait for so long or
- 46:01why didn't God removed me from the scene or when God stops?
- 46:05So and so before they committed that and the case that I make is
- 46:08based on this, this study God has been trying.
- 46:13God has been through, providential means, God, has
- 46:16been putting up obstacle after obstacle after obstacle to try
- 46:21to get David's attention and at the same time we have we come to
- 46:25the, we come to the simple understanding of how God gives
- 46:29us autonomy to the extent of making our own decisions.
- 46:34The word has already been given to David, he knows what his
- 46:36right. He knows the Commandments of
- 46:37God. He was a man who cherish the law
- 46:40and yet still with the Revelation.
- 46:41He was given he chooses to go. The opposite way.
- 46:44God has done all that he can to get his attention and many, many
- 46:48ways and eventually it will come with a strong word in chapter
- 46:5212. So we don't know really all the
- 46:54reasons why but I just give you a couple of reasons why and I
- 46:58argue I make the case that God often does when a true child of
- 47:02God pursues in Attention all sin and plans to send both from
- 47:07scripture, I can prove this and even from personal experience
- 47:10God, often gets that person's attention before they go.
- 47:13There he provides ways of Escape as First Corinthians tells us
- 47:17and what we do, we just shut those doors and we just had long
- 47:20go forward until he makes it very clear what we done was
- 47:23wrong. So now we come back.
- 47:26What do we see here? This is troubling.
- 47:30How draw was able to predict? What would calm David down?
- 47:35But we come to verse 25. And we see his actual reaction.
- 47:41David said to the messenger, thus, shall you say to joab?
- 47:47Do not let this matter. Displease you for the sword
- 47:49devours. Now one, and now, another
- 47:51strengthen your attack against the city and overthrow it and
- 47:54encourage him. Pause.
- 48:00Think is this the first time that David has ever received a
- 48:04report of someone that he knew dying?
- 48:08Is it? Or has David been the recipient
- 48:11of tragic news before? Saul, who else?
- 48:17Abner, good Jonathan. Let's put Jonathan aside,
- 48:20Jonathan makes sense, right? Saul Abner now, think about how
- 48:25he responded to the news of their death, where they allies
- 48:28to David, or they Predators, they are enemies.
- 48:32They wanted him dead. And what makes me?
- 48:35So startled by this verse is contrasting.
- 48:38His reactions to those people when they departed and this man,
- 48:44when he was put to death, The Brokenness, the fasting, the
- 48:48Weeping, The Wailing, the pounding, the writing, the
- 48:50recording, the songs. For unjust men.
- 48:56For men who didn't deserve it in a natural and here is a man
- 48:59upright filled with Integrity. So loyal to the cause of the
- 49:04kingdom of God and the King that God has established and he's put
- 49:08to death and David doesn't bat an eye.
- 49:12David doesn't even bat an eye. Not one tear.
- 49:15We shed not one. Verse was written, not one day
- 49:18of fasting. Nothing.
- 49:23Again, it just reinforces the truth that you and I have been
- 49:26hearing throughout this study, the absolute hardness that
- 49:30develops When sin is tolerated, even in the life of a child of
- 49:35God, the indifference the insensitivity.
- 49:39I sometimes I've seen it throughout the years, just
- 49:41unmoved by things that should move you just rock hard.
- 49:47And what it's going to take for somebody who becomes so
- 49:49rock-hard is forgot to smash that rock.
- 49:53Not to wound. But to awaken And so here's what
- 49:57sin does the same way you and I, and we should preach Faithfully
- 50:01that Jesus can transform you and make you into something that you
- 50:05never thought you would be by his grace and by his blood and
- 50:08by his word sin has the same power, but the opposite effect,
- 50:13it can make you unrecognizable. Because that's what we see here
- 50:16at David that we do not recognize his attitude is
- 50:20different. His Outlook is different.
- 50:21The way he registers events is different.
- 50:26All for one reason. Because he chose to conceal
- 50:30instead of confess. Who would have thought remember
- 50:32thou this all started from one decision.
- 50:37In the beginning of the chapter refusing to be in the will of
- 50:39God. Now, this is what we're seeing
- 50:43and what we just Trace, just follow the tracks.
- 50:46You come back and it all started with David making the decision
- 50:50to stay at home when he was supposed to be out on the
- 50:52battlefield. So you do you see the
- 50:54trajectory, do you see the potential of where a true
- 50:58servant of God can go when they step outside of the will of God
- 51:02long enough? When they refuse to uphold the
- 51:06commands of God for their lives. When they do not see the
- 51:09necessity of being with the Church of God, consistently,
- 51:12when do not see the necessity of being disciplined and meeting
- 51:15with the Lord spending time with the Lord, when they do not
- 51:18intentionally be zealous for good works.
- 51:20When we step outside of that path, that leads to very dark
- 51:24places. Here's David now who for up to
- 51:29this point showed such tenderness when even an enemy of
- 51:33his was taken prematurely. And here's a man who deserved a
- 51:38parade for his death. And David is able to go to bed.
- 51:43So soundly that very night. It's heart-wrenching it's
- 51:47heartbreaking. Why am I, why am I teaching?
- 51:50I want you to hate sin. That's why I'm curious to know
- 51:55how many times. The word sin was mentioned in
- 51:57this Bible study, and there's a reason for that, you know,
- 52:01Jesus, according to Hebrews 1 was anointed with the oil of
- 52:04gladness. Do you know why?
- 52:06For two reasons? We're told there that he loved
- 52:08righteousness and what was the second thing?
- 52:11He hated iniquity. We think our job as Christians
- 52:17is just to love righteousness. Know, it's also to hate that
- 52:20which God hates. And so if you want to know what
- 52:23it means to grow in righteousness, it's loving what.
- 52:26God loves and also parallel to that hating what he hates.
- 52:31One of the signs of growth is just that not that you just
- 52:34adore what he adores but you also abhor what he abhors.
- 52:39And so I want you to be in that place where there's a righteous
- 52:42rage for that which hurts God's reputation hurts God's people
- 52:46and hurts other people as well. Verse 26, the wife of Uriah
- 52:53heard that you write her husband was dead.
- 52:55She lamented over a husband that season of sin.
- 52:58Sweetness quickly became sour. Hebrews tells us that the season
- 53:04of sin is but fleeting It is fleeting, it is not lasting that
- 53:10one night, stand, turn into many nights of morning.
- 53:15And it's a picture of what you and I can expect when we think
- 53:19that we will be satisfied, it will always come back like a
- 53:23scorpion sting to zap you and leave a greater Mark than
- 53:27whatever pleasure you enjoy for a brief moment.
- 53:30But look here, verse 27. and when the morning was over, David
- 53:35sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife
- 53:38and bore him a son, Like mission accomplished.
- 53:46Mission accomplished. No questions, asked David, not
- 53:50only saves himself from embarrassment, from the possible
- 53:54confrontation of bathsheba's husband.
- 53:56That's done away with he. Now acquires a very, very, very
- 54:00beautiful woman as another wife and it's Haram So he had this
- 54:07man, who now acquires a beautiful wife, who has a son
- 54:11and two somewhere, undiscerning, you know, what happens?
- 54:16He seems like a hero here is a man now who takes a widow into
- 54:20his care. Oh, look how sweet David is.
- 54:23Look how he's a look, how he takes care of his men when they
- 54:26die in war. He takes their with their wife,
- 54:30and he brings a man and he nurtures her.
- 54:32And what a great man. I'm sure some people who heard
- 54:36the news of this new marriage thought that But to the
- 54:40Discerning maybe like job, like this is weird.
- 54:42This is really, really weird. There's something off here,
- 54:45we're not told that I can imagine.
- 54:50It seems like all is well, seems like everything happened.
- 54:52It seems like David's family is just growing.
- 54:56Maybe he told himself I'll never do something like that again.
- 54:59Thankfully nothing was exposed nothing exploded and then this
- 55:06final haunting phrase, as you know, but the thing that David
- 55:10had done displeased the Lord, God was silent.
- 55:14As you mentioned, brother? God was citing this entire time.
- 55:17Now, one thing was mentioned for the first time in this chapter,
- 55:20the Lord is brought up and all that.
- 55:23We are told about the Lord is that he was displeased with what
- 55:26David had done. Here's the point to make When
- 55:30God seems silent and he often is that there's not mean he's not
- 55:34seeing, because he always is when God seems silent, which he
- 55:39often is. It does not mean he is not
- 55:42seeing because he always is I just try to picture that.
- 55:47I just I just kind of stepped back and I try to Envision this
- 55:52whole series of things playing out.
- 55:56And God, I don't know how it looked but God just watching it
- 56:01silently. And taking it all in and
- 56:05throwing, providential nudges along the way.
- 56:11It's a, finally, the commentaries given to us that
- 56:15this displeased the Lord, you know, it's the same word that
- 56:17David used in verse 25. Look at verse 25, Again, David
- 56:21said to the messenger that she still stayed a job, do not let
- 56:23this matter. Displease, you Don't let this
- 56:27matter displease you it's the same word don't let it grieve.
- 56:30You don't let it upset you. What a contrast, what David was
- 56:36trying to console job with and even himself was in total odds
- 56:41against what God thought about it.
- 56:45Men, often approves what God disapproves men often Praises,
- 56:50what God often condemns? Men often makes unclear what God
- 56:55has made. Absolutely clear.
- 56:58This is, this is one of the main problems between mankind.
- 57:02And his creator. Don't let this displease you job
- 57:07and perhaps he was trying to tell that to himself.
- 57:10And yet we are told that God was displeased with it.
- 57:16Something happens when you read your Bible and you continue, go
- 57:19to 1st Kings and this is our last verse, but look at 1st
- 57:21Kings 15. And look here in verse, look at
- 57:36verse 4. Nevertheless for David's sake,
- 57:42the Lord. His God gave him a lamp in
- 57:44Jerusalem, setting up his son after him and establishing
- 57:48Jerusalem. Because David did what was right
- 57:51in the eyes of the Lord. And did not turn aside from
- 57:54anything that he commanded him all the days of his life except
- 57:59in the matter of Uriah, the hittite.
- 58:03Except in the matter of Uriah the hittite.
- 58:05What an insightful verse The reason that this is being
- 58:09brought up is because average am one of the kings of Judah has
- 58:14sinned against the Lord, and this is just one of the
- 58:17beginnings of the cycles of the Kings of Israel and Judah and
- 58:20we're being reminded by the Holy Spirit but God would not cut off
- 58:22the Covenant that he made with David God would only God would
- 58:26continue based on one thing and that was the promise he made to
- 58:30David that we studied in second Samuel chapter 7.
- 58:33But for some reason in the reminder of the Covenant that
- 58:36God made with David and how that was going to be.
- 58:38Perpetually held onto regardless of the unfaithfulness of his
- 58:41successors. We're also being reminded of the
- 58:44sin that he committed with and against Uriah What's the point
- 58:49of that? You know, if you read that on
- 58:51the surface level it can haunt you because what it can, it can
- 58:54communicate and it would be the right thing.
- 58:57Is that? God remembers their sin.
- 59:00Especially the heinous ones, especially the very offensive
- 59:03ones. Especially the ones that deal
- 59:06with other people and their death or whatever the case may
- 59:08be. God remembers, he'll never
- 59:10forget and he'll bring it up from time to time.
- 59:12That's not what we're being told here.
- 59:15I believe, the reason why this is being brought up so that when
- 59:18God was reminding us through the spirit in his word, that he
- 59:22would continue to be faithful to the kingdom of Judah.
- 59:26It was because he was faithful to David even despite David's
- 59:31failure. Yes, it's a reminder of Davidson
- 59:37but I believe another message is being communicated here.
- 59:41Is that David did Sin? And God's covenant, with David
- 59:47being protected, was not because David was perfect because you
- 59:54get that impression. If there is a period after did
- 59:57not turn aside from anything that he commanded him all the
- 59:59days of his life. You would think the reason why
- 1:00:02God is faithful to David is because David out performed
- 1:00:06everybody and David was so impressive to God.
- 1:00:10That God says, you know, what you stand out from all the other
- 1:00:12bumbling fools. So I'm going to keep my promise.
- 1:00:15As with you, David your performance was so outstanding
- 1:00:18that I'm actually going to keep my word even for generations to
- 1:00:21come. And yet the Holy Spirit
- 1:00:22interrupts that potential thought by reminding us.
- 1:00:25Hey, he really messed up at one point.
- 1:00:29He messed up at other points but he really royally, no pun
- 1:00:32intended, messed up. So in the past three weeks in
- 1:00:39these studies, you and I have been being hammered by the word
- 1:00:42of God. Concerning the subject of sin,
- 1:00:44hiding sin, concealing, sin. God, who is incredibly able to
- 1:00:50reveal that sin? And we can be just washed with
- 1:00:54overwhelming daunting, terrifying, truth.
- 1:01:00And there's an element of that, which is healthy.
- 1:01:02But I want to end on this note. God.
- 1:01:10Is willing to hold on to his promise regardless of what
- 1:01:12you've done. if you are in Christ, if you are in Christ,
- 1:01:19That's, that's what I want to end on.
- 1:01:22That no matter what stain you have in your past, just like
- 1:01:27David. The same Holy Spirit.
- 1:01:31Who kept the promise to this, man?
- 1:01:35Forever. Is the same promise keeper.
- 1:01:41Who sees in whom you hide. And will look past the sin.
- 1:01:49And will keep his promise to you for Christ's sake, forever, and
- 1:01:54ever and ever. Yeah, Davidson was brought up
- 1:01:59again in the Bible but can I tell you one book in which your
- 1:02:03son will never come up again? You know, it That precious Book
- 1:02:08of Life. That is only reserved for those
- 1:02:12who have been redeemed by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ
- 1:02:17in that record. When Christ will I believe in
- 1:02:21some way read our names to assure us that we have his
- 1:02:26presence forever? I can guarantee beside your name
- 1:02:30is not one mention of any sin. You have committed It will be
- 1:02:35blank. Because it's been washed by the
- 1:02:39blood of the Lamb. That's what you and I have.
- 1:02:43And so, this is for our instruction.
- 1:02:45But this is also a reminder for you, listen in, Jesus Christ, no
- 1:02:49matter how grade that sin wise, even if that sin was murder, I
- 1:02:53know that doesn't mean much for church, people. but if you
- 1:02:57remember a few years ago, for those who are doing Ministry out
- 1:03:00there, I forgot where I was riding me by Joliet.
- 1:03:07Yes. imagine doing Bible study with a bunch of teenagers, who
- 1:03:12have murdered And sitting across the table from kids, who learn
- 1:03:19how to shoot a gun before, having any kind of idea of how
- 1:03:22to drive a car. Knowing how to sell drugs before
- 1:03:26knowing how to make a sandwich. That means a lot.
- 1:03:32Yeah, you might have murdered and your might be blood on your
- 1:03:36hands even if your hands have not been developed yet.
- 1:03:40But there is someone who shed his blood for you, and he can
- 1:03:44wash every single record of that wrong clean.
- 1:03:48Simply because of your repentance and faith in him.
- 1:03:53And so today, if you are a person who has a stain, there's
- 1:03:59something you're ashamed of their, something that Even the
- 1:04:03thought of it servicing to your mind, makes you want to bang
- 1:04:05your head against the wall and maybe that very wrong has never
- 1:04:09been materialized. It's only been imagined but it
- 1:04:12is so perverse and so ugly and so despicable that that that
- 1:04:18thing there alone can make death seem sweet so that you don't
- 1:04:23have to replay it in your mind. Even if it's that The blood of
- 1:04:27Jesus is so powerful that it can be washed under that tide and
- 1:04:32God will never hold it against you.
- 1:04:34When you come and you hide in him.
- 1:04:37And so I want I want you to be comforted by that truth.
- 1:04:41That God does not hold that against you.
- 1:04:43If you come to his son and if you confess it and if you're
- 1:04:47broken and if you're genuine you come to him.
- 1:04:51You confess it and let him throw it in that.
- 1:04:53See forgetfulness and move on. And enjoy his favor and his
- 1:04:58Blessing over your life. We will continue in this subject
- 1:05:03but I pray that that truth of Grace would give you some kind
- 1:05:05of breath to breathe as you have perhaps in these past few weeks,
- 1:05:10Ben Uptight with this tense subject.
- 1:05:15God is good, he is so, so good. And he has given this to us to
- 1:05:19remind us. Even if his goodness in the
- 1:05:22midst of tragedy. We do love you.
- 1:05:24Lord, we do love you. We love you.
- 1:05:26We love you. We thank you for the blood.
- 1:05:30We thank you for the forgiveness in Jesus, we thank you for
- 1:05:32Calvary. We thank you for the cross.
- 1:05:34We thank you. That there is not one sin that
- 1:05:36you did not have in mind when you died.
- 1:05:38You've considered all iniquity, all trespass, all lawlessness.
- 1:05:42Saul Rebellion, when you died and Lord, we just thank you that
- 1:05:46we have been made clean. And we thank you that there is
- 1:05:50not one thing you choose to remember a hold against us.
- 1:05:55And Lord we we Relish in that truth.
- 1:05:57But we also want that truth to keep us anchored so that we
- 1:06:00would never pervert the grace of God moving forward, help us
- 1:06:04through the life of David and second Samuel 11 to remember.
- 1:06:09That sins promises are all lies. And that Lord what you have for
- 1:06:16us. In righteousness, is for our joy
- 1:06:18as much as it is For Your Glory. Well, we just ask that as we
- 1:06:22worship you on this Friday night, our hearts would be
- 1:06:24refreshed refreshed, not just with that promise.
- 1:06:27We heard at the end of the study, but even with the
- 1:06:29warnings that we've been receiving throughout this night
- 1:06:33and Lord, for the person here, who is not really in Jesus
- 1:06:35Christ and because they are not in Christ, is due to a
- 1:06:38hesitation of a sin in their lives.
- 1:06:41That is convincing them of a false promise or perhaps of
- 1:06:45guilt for something that was committed and is holding them
- 1:06:49back like a iron ball of chain around their ankle, Lord, met
- 1:06:53their eyes be open to see that you are willing to cleanse them
- 1:06:57and receive them and restore them completely that you want to
- 1:07:02like a physician heal them of that disease.
- 1:07:04It's your eager desire, Lord, may that be a resounding truth
- 1:07:08that rings in the ear of that Soul too.
- 1:07:10Eight and what we worship you with this song as we are close
- 1:07:14to sleep. Lord.
- 1:07:15Tonight, we just want to, we want to finish this night off
- 1:07:17with a song, on our lips. And with these truths in our
- 1:07:20heart, we ask these things in the name of your living, son.
- 1:07:23The resurrected Christ. The Returning King, amen.
- 1:07:26And amen. But stand.
- 1:07:31And sing to Jesus Christ. And sing to Jesus Christ.
