- 0:01Dot com Welcome to the Daily Quote, a podcast designed to
- 0:07kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:10I'm our host Daniel McGivern for August 2nd.
- 0:13Today is National Coloring Book Day and before you roll your
- 0:17eyes and think, isn't that for kids?
- 0:20Let me stop you right there. Adult coloring books have become
- 0:24a massive phenomenon, and there's actually some serious
- 0:28science behind why picking up those colored pencils might be
- 0:31one of the best things you can do for your brain.
- 0:35You see, coloring isn't just about staying inside the lines,
- 0:39though there's something oddly satisfying about that, too.
- 0:43It's about getting into what psychologists call a low state,
- 0:48that magical zone where time seems to disappear and your mind
- 0:52quiets down from its usual chatter.
- 0:56It's meditation disguised as play.
- 0:59The beauty of coloring is its simplicity.
- 1:02You don't need to be Picasso. You don't need expensive
- 1:06equipment. You just need to show up with a
- 1:09crayon and let yourself get lost in the process.
- 1:14There's no right or wrong way to color a Mandela or fill in a
- 1:18geometric pattern. It's just you, the page, and
- 1:22whatever colors speak to you in that moment.
- 1:26This brings us to today's quote from Pablo Picasso, who once
- 1:30said every child is an artist. The problem is how we remain an
- 1:36artist once we grow up. Now, Picasso understood
- 1:41something we often forget as adults, that creativity isn't
- 1:45about perfection. It's about expression.
- 1:49Watch any kid with a coloring book and you'll see pure,
- 1:53unfiltered joy. They're not worried about
- 1:56choosing the right color for the sky or whether their butterfly
- 2:01looks realistic. They're just creating.
- 2:05But somewhere along the way, many of us lose that fearless
- 2:09creativity. We start second guessing
- 2:11ourselves. We worry about judgement.
- 2:15We convince ourselves we're not artistic and abandoned the very
- 2:20thing that brought us so much joy as children.
- 2:23The thing is, that artist is still in there.
- 2:28It's just buried under years of being told to color inside the
- 2:32lines, to follow the rules, to be practical.
- 2:36But creativity doesn't follow rules.
- 2:40It plays with them, bends them, sometimes breaks them entirely.
- 2:45So today, whether you actually pick up a coloring book or just
- 2:48approach your regular tasks with more creative spirit, remember
- 2:54Picasso's words. That inner artist doesn't need
- 2:58permission to come out and play. It just needs you to stop
- 3:03overthinking and start creating. Maybe the sky in your coloring
- 3:07book is purple today. Maybe your presentation at work
- 3:11has a little extra flair. Maybe you take a different route
- 3:16home just to see something new. However you choose to express
- 3:21it, let that artist inside you have a voice that's going to do
- 3:26it. For today, I'm Andrew McGivern,
- 3:28signing off for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:33Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
