- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode seventy seven of Cards
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Categories. I am Mike Coolard from Rasball, joined as
- 0:22Speaker 1: always by my very good friend Jeremy Burr, also from Rasball.
- 0:26Speaker 2: How you doing tonight, buddy?
- 0:27Speaker 3: I am doing fantastic episode seventy seven. How did that happen?
- 0:31Speaker 3: Feels like we've been doing this for a while and
- 0:34Speaker 3: it's still a fantastic time. So I'm looking forward tonight.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah, me too.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We are speaking on the evening of February fifth, and
- 0:43Speaker 1: we've got another great divisional preview coming up. We've got
- 0:46Speaker 1: the NL East tonight, so we are going to cover
- 0:48Speaker 1: that with Joe Rico from Fangrafts and Fantasy Pros. So
- 0:53Speaker 1: we're going to get into some news and notes together,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and then we'll bring Joe on after the break to
- 0:58Speaker 1: get into NL East. It's a fascinating division. It's a
- 1:01Speaker 1: very deep division. Just be glad that you aren't a
- 1:05Speaker 1: Miami Marlins fan, because I think it's going to be
- 1:07Speaker 1: a little rough stretch of time. Lots of stalwarts in
- 1:10Speaker 1: the division and lots of great fantasy prospects up and
- 1:14Speaker 1: down throughout all those teams.
- 1:16Speaker 2: But like I said, let's get into some news and notes.
- 1:18Speaker 1: We've got a few more signings that have hit the
- 1:22Speaker 1: waiver the wires this past week since we talked, And
- 1:26Speaker 1: the biggest one that we've got is Jack Flaherty returning
- 1:29Speaker 1: to the Detroit Tigers on a two year deal, coming
- 1:32Speaker 1: off of a pretty solid season with them, and you know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: was moved at the deadline, even though the Tigers went
- 1:39Speaker 1: on to win a wild card spot and get into
- 1:43Speaker 1: the playoffs. Flerty was, I would say, okay down the
- 1:47Speaker 1: stretch with the Dodgers and certainly didn't look as sharp
- 1:50Speaker 1: as he was with the Tigers. And but when it
- 1:54Speaker 1: all was said and done, in one hundred and sixty
- 1:55Speaker 1: two innings that he put up, he had a three
- 1:58Speaker 1: seventeen ERA and third teen and seven. Certainly was a
- 2:02Speaker 1: huge boon if you took him in drafts last year
- 2:05Speaker 1: because he was going super late. He was a totally
- 2:08Speaker 1: forgotten afterthought after coming off of that four ninety nine
- 2:11Speaker 1: ear ray and twenty twenty three, not many better landing
- 2:15Speaker 1: spots than Detroit and pitching in that stadium and the
- 2:18Speaker 1: cold weather and getting to face some of the weakest
- 2:21Speaker 1: offenses in the league in that Al Central. So what
- 2:25Speaker 1: do you think here for Jack Flerty, where are you
- 2:27Speaker 1: kind of kind of putting him roughly in your starting
- 2:30Speaker 1: pitching ranks getting into twenty twenty five here?
- 2:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you're absolutely right. This is probably one
- 2:35Speaker 3: of the best outcomes for Flirty, And I think it's
- 2:37Speaker 3: also a great move for him because he didn't look
- 2:40Speaker 3: as dominant for the Dodgers, and also to put on
- 2:42Speaker 3: a much bigger stage I think for him rebuilding value
- 2:45Speaker 3: like he started last year was Detroit, doing that again
- 2:49Speaker 3: this year and you know, carrying out forward again into
- 2:52Speaker 3: potentially twenty six as well. We'll just be great. I
- 2:55Speaker 3: think from a you know, overall rankings perspective, flarity I
- 3:00Speaker 3: struggling with really where to put him, to be honest,
- 3:03Speaker 3: because I don't fully bought buy what he did last year.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Also from a health perspective, he's never been, you know,
- 3:09Speaker 3: really the guy that's gonna go out there and gets
- 3:11Speaker 3: you thirty starts every day. So you know, if I'm
- 3:14Speaker 3: if I'm trying to peg him, I've probably got him
- 3:17Speaker 3: in maybe the forty to fifty range. From a starting
- 3:20Speaker 3: pitcher perspective, you know, overall pictures probably been more in
- 3:25Speaker 3: the sixty range. With with some upside and so, uh,
- 3:29Speaker 3: this is probably the best landing spot. So I'll probably
- 3:31Speaker 3: go on the on the more forgiving ranges of those.
- 3:34Speaker 3: But I'm just not fully buying what happened last year.
- 3:38Speaker 3: There were a few warning signs. Uh, So I think
- 3:40Speaker 3: if we see maybe a high threes or low four
- 3:43Speaker 3: Z era, some decent wins and strikeouts, is probably where
- 3:47Speaker 3: where we're looking to fall here. So you know, give
- 3:49Speaker 3: me in that code, I singa Kevin Gossman, Uh, you know,
- 3:54Speaker 3: Brandon fat type type area. I'm not quite throwing them
- 3:57Speaker 3: all the way down to the Spencer Aragan, the Tanner
- 4:00Speaker 3: how Bowden, France's type of type spots yet. But I
- 4:04Speaker 3: think he's definitely got upside, but it's gonna be capped
- 4:07Speaker 3: overall because I think there's just enough injury risk there
- 4:11Speaker 3: with flarity that I just I can't fully fully trust
- 4:14Speaker 3: him for a full season.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I might actually be a tick higher than you on him.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I think I like where he's going. I think he's
- 4:22Speaker 1: going right in the right spot in terms of Brian Wu,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I mean, Spencer Strider is there where we'll get into
- 4:28Speaker 1: him a little bit in our and I'll east discussion
- 4:30Speaker 1: because I don't think either of us really like his
- 4:33Speaker 1: prospects of how many innings he might be able to throw.
- 4:35Speaker 1: He is going behind Jared Jones, which honestly, Jared Jones
- 4:39Speaker 1: is maybe going criminally too late in drafts right now.
- 4:42Speaker 1: But I do like him more than like the Kakuchi,
- 4:45Speaker 1: Robbie Ray Codeai Singas because I think what Flarity also
- 4:49Speaker 1: ran into last year is that was the most innings,
- 4:52Speaker 1: second most innings he's ever thrown in his career behind
- 4:55Speaker 1: that twenty nineteen season that was brilliant with one hundred
- 4:58Speaker 1: and ninety six and the third innings. I think he
- 5:00Speaker 1: wore down at the end of the season, even twenty
- 5:03Speaker 1: twenty three when he came down the stretch with Baltimore,
- 5:06Speaker 1: he got converted into like a semi reliever there for
- 5:09Speaker 1: a little bit, and they didn't use him as much.
- 5:12Speaker 1: That I think a lot of like what you saw
- 5:15Speaker 1: with Jack Clerty going to the Dodgers was they didn't
- 5:18Speaker 1: mess with his pitch mix a little bit, which I
- 5:20Speaker 1: don't think was helpful to him. But I think he
- 5:23Speaker 1: also just kind of faded because he wasn't used to
- 5:26Speaker 1: throwing that type of volume given his injury history.
- 5:29Speaker 2: So I love the landing spot in Detroit.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I love the profile in terms of the strikeouts that
- 5:35Speaker 1: he can give you and the low era and the
- 5:37Speaker 1: low whip and yeah, it can't get better than going
- 5:41Speaker 1: back to Detroit.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Yeah, you're you're right, and you know it's just for
- 5:46Speaker 3: you top of the Dodgers trying to play with his
- 5:48Speaker 3: pitch mix, like thirty is one of those guys that
- 5:50Speaker 3: like he's got his opinion what he's gonna do, Like
- 5:53Speaker 3: we've known this for a long time, and so if
- 5:56Speaker 3: he's not bought in, like who else will be right?
- 6:00Speaker 3: You know, he's got to be fully in for this work.
- 6:02Speaker 3: And so I think that party going back to Troit.
- 6:05Speaker 3: He's got to be comfortable there and that clearly is
- 6:07Speaker 3: shown by him returning.
- 6:10Speaker 4: All right.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Next signing that we have is future Hall of Famer
- 6:13Speaker 1: Max Schurzer's signing a one year, fifteen and a half
- 6:16Speaker 1: million dollar deal five hundred thousand dollars more than his
- 6:19Speaker 1: buddy Justin Verlander to join the Toronto Blue Jays, and
- 6:24Speaker 1: it's coming off of an injury rigual season where he
- 6:27Speaker 1: posted his lowest K nine since twenty eleven. Last year
- 6:31Speaker 1: as a twenty six year old with oddly the Detroit
- 6:34Speaker 1: Tigers back in the day. Schuerzer battled shoulder and back
- 6:38Speaker 1: issues last year when he was with the Rangers, but
- 6:41Speaker 1: when he was on the mound it was relatively solid,
- 6:43Speaker 1: with a three ninety five YARRA across his nine starts.
- 6:47Speaker 2: What do you think of him in Toronto?
- 6:48Speaker 1: Because I like this pick in terms of like the
- 6:53Speaker 1: skill set and just being able to find maybe a
- 6:58Speaker 1: pitcher until you start taking darts later in your drafts,
- 7:02Speaker 1: that Toronto should be a decent landing spot for Sureser
- 7:05Speaker 1: as well.
- 7:06Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think so It's hard to know
- 7:10Speaker 3: what to make of last year for Suresey because he
- 7:13Speaker 3: he never truly got built up and the biggest issue
- 7:16Speaker 3: Sureser had last year was the velocity drop. The rest
- 7:18Speaker 3: of the profile was relatively Max Scherzer. It's just that
- 7:21Speaker 3: he was Max Surezer with less velocity, which means that
- 7:24Speaker 3: he was getting hit harder and people were not swinging
- 7:27Speaker 3: and missing the same thing they typically had been. So
- 7:30Speaker 3: I'm tentatively optimistic, Like the price is very reasonable right now.
- 7:34Speaker 3: It's basically late draft Max Scherzer, and when you're looking
- 7:39Speaker 3: at a guy that doesn't walk. Many guys he you know,
- 7:42Speaker 3: generally can control what's going he doesn't have blow ups.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Like I think there's a lot to like here with
- 7:46Speaker 3: Max Scherzer, and he's going to a decent team. The
- 7:50Speaker 3: Blue Jays are not amazing by any means, but they're
- 7:52Speaker 3: not a slouch eather, so I think that there's something
- 7:55Speaker 3: to be said for that where he definitely can bring
- 7:58Speaker 3: value and I'm definite only buying him at the current price,
- 8:01Speaker 3: which I can't remember. The ADP was like hundreds, four
- 8:05Speaker 3: hundreds or something like that, so I don't know how
- 8:08Speaker 3: much of trust it because that's probably before he signed
- 8:10Speaker 3: that I'm looking at.
- 8:12Speaker 2: But yeah, it's it's vacillating a lot.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So like I'm looking at the average ADP and Draft
- 8:18Speaker 1: champions since the beginning of January, it's an average pick
- 8:22Speaker 1: of three seventy five, but the min pick is already
- 8:25Speaker 1: down at two fifty five. So where he's at right now,
- 8:28Speaker 1: it's like, actually by a bunch of like, you know, relievers,
- 8:33Speaker 1: you got like Luke Weaver and Kate Smith down here,
- 8:35Speaker 1: David Peterson's hanging out down here, Aaron Savali. But yeah,
- 8:39Speaker 1: I do think that he's going to start moving up
- 8:41Speaker 1: boards to maybe but still a pretty reasonable price. I
- 8:45Speaker 1: don't see him rising much beyond like pick three hundred
- 8:48Speaker 1: level where you've got of got like the Matthew Boyd
- 8:51Speaker 1: Eric Betty type of players, where I think that's a
- 8:54Speaker 1: solid pick for Max Schures or that, like, especially if
- 8:57Speaker 1: he's feeling good and can kind of those strikeouts, I
- 9:02Speaker 1: think you'd be surprised by what you can be can
- 9:05Speaker 1: get out of Max Suers or while he's healthy. I'm
- 9:07Speaker 1: not counting on a full healthy season, but that could
- 9:10Speaker 1: also help happen to like there is a pathway to
- 9:14Speaker 1: him getting to like one hundred and fifty innings because
- 9:16Speaker 1: like the blue Jays don't necessarily care that he's on
- 9:19Speaker 1: a one year deal. The blue Jays are going all
- 9:21Speaker 1: in to try to get into the playoffs and keep
- 9:24Speaker 1: Fladido around that they're gonna ride Max Sures as hard
- 9:27Speaker 1: as they can.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Yeah, they absolutely will. So it'll be fun because you
- 9:31Speaker 3: can have Sures for basically a low cost and just
- 9:34Speaker 3: don't get over Zelus and think he is the Maxuers
- 9:36Speaker 3: are old. But if you have your expectations in line,
- 9:39Speaker 3: that's there's very little downside with him right now.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Okay, next deal we have is Jorge Polanco returning to
- 9:46Speaker 1: the Seattle Mariners, and oddly it sounds like he's gonna
- 9:49Speaker 1: play third base. This is a guy who was not
- 9:51Speaker 1: a good second baseman or shortstop and necessarily didn't necessarily
- 9:55Speaker 1: have like the arm for it, I thought. But the
- 9:58Speaker 1: Mariners have signed him to play third base because before
- 10:02Speaker 1: him it was Donovin Solano. This is a rough team.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Polanco is slated to bat eighth right now in the
- 10:09Speaker 1: lineup per roster resource. Coming off a dreadful season with
- 10:14Speaker 1: a two thirteen two ninety six three p fifty five
- 10:17Speaker 1: slash line. Is first season with the Mariners k rate
- 10:20Speaker 1: ballooned up to twenty nine point two percent. We also,
- 10:24Speaker 1: I don't know if you read the Mike Petrel piece
- 10:26Speaker 1: on T Mobile Park in Seattle, but it's a really great,
- 10:29Speaker 1: fascinating deep dive and I'll link to it in the
- 10:31Speaker 1: show notes about like how T Mobile really increases strikeouts
- 10:38Speaker 1: and decreases offense because of like a combination of that
- 10:42Speaker 1: batter's eye. In the time of the day, you can't
- 10:44Speaker 1: see it very well. But also I didn't know this
- 10:46Speaker 1: until I read the piece that T Mobile Park is
- 10:49Speaker 1: actually even though it's got like a dome cover, the
- 10:52Speaker 1: dome cover is actually more of like an umbrella. It's
- 10:54Speaker 1: still an open air stadium, and up in Seattle, it's
- 10:57Speaker 1: actually the coldest stadium on average, so it really really
- 11:01Speaker 1: suppresses offense for a lot of those factors, which I
- 11:05Speaker 1: think eight Polanco alive. I guess what I'm getting to
- 11:08Speaker 1: in the longen is is there any interest in Polanco?
- 11:11Speaker 1: Because I'm been fading the hell out of all Seattle
- 11:14Speaker 1: Manners players across the board because it's just been proven
- 11:18Speaker 1: that they cannot hit at home and it was already
- 11:22Speaker 1: a week offense. And now Polonco is returning there. Do
- 11:27Speaker 1: you see any hope of him bouncing back to what
- 11:29Speaker 1: he used to be with the Twins?
- 11:31Speaker 3: I don't like that's the problem is, Like you know,
- 11:34Speaker 3: I've drafted them, I think in the past with the
- 11:37Speaker 3: uh in actually going to twenty four, Like is a
- 11:39Speaker 3: middle infielder thinking like, hey, if I could just squeak
- 11:41Speaker 3: by with like maybe like a ten to ten season
- 11:44Speaker 3: or fifteen ten season with like a two fifty average
- 11:47Speaker 3: or two forty average, Like I just don't think that's
- 11:50Speaker 3: that's even gonna happen, Like it seems like there's just
- 11:52Speaker 3: no speed the averages in the tank. Like yeah, like
- 11:56Speaker 3: did he get unlucky last year, maybe, but not really.
- 12:00Speaker 3: It's just that's who he is now. Like he's he's
- 12:03Speaker 3: on the wrong side of thirty. He's got a lot
- 12:05Speaker 3: of games on him, right, He's he's been in the
- 12:07Speaker 3: majors for over ten years, and so he's definitely even
- 12:12Speaker 3: though he's like at the age thirty one season, like,
- 12:14Speaker 3: it's there's just a lot of a lot of mileage
- 12:16Speaker 3: on that. So I'm I've really got no interest in
- 12:19Speaker 3: Polanco outside of maybe if you're in a deep league
- 12:23Speaker 3: and you like the flex positional flexibility they might get
- 12:26Speaker 3: you if you're trying to plug like some deep bench holes,
- 12:28Speaker 3: but like no, like it's just it's.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Just not there. Yeah, And even then, like it's really
- 12:33Speaker 2: risky because if he's playing all the time and hitting
- 12:35Speaker 2: two twenty two thirty, the way that he might do
- 12:39Speaker 2: like that hurts if he's not giving you this tone
- 12:42Speaker 2: basis that he used to in the past, and especially
- 12:45Speaker 2: you know, I think people have fond memories of that
- 12:47Speaker 2: thirty three homer season he had. It's long gone, Okay.
- 12:52Speaker 1: We've got a couple of outfielders signing that are a
- 12:55Speaker 1: little bit more in my waiver wire realms, So I
- 12:57Speaker 1: want to discuss them with you and kind of see
- 13:01Speaker 1: what you think of their prospects going to twenty twenty five,
- 13:03Speaker 1: because honestly, they've both been relatively useful fantasy outfielders over
- 13:08Speaker 1: the past couple of years as plug ins just to
- 13:11Speaker 1: be able to round out a weekly lineup, because both
- 13:15Speaker 1: show a little bit of power, both show a little
- 13:17Speaker 1: bit speed. First, we've got Harrison Bader signing with the
- 13:21Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins. Should walk into a short side platoon role
- 13:25Speaker 1: to get plenty of center field time. But also, I mean,
- 13:28Speaker 1: we know the Minnesota Twins track record with health in
- 13:31Speaker 1: that outfield between Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnak, and even
- 13:36Speaker 1: Matt Walner's not necessarily been like the healthiest dude all
- 13:39Speaker 1: the time. You also have Royce Lewis hanging around, of course,
- 13:42Speaker 1: so it's a pretty easy pathway to more at bats
- 13:44Speaker 1: for Bader.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Ramon Loriano is the other routfielder I was.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Talking about, who, if I have to be honest, I'm
- 13:51Speaker 1: a little disappointed by this landing spotform because he's going
- 13:55Speaker 1: to Baltimore also walking into a short side platoon. It
- 13:58Speaker 1: looks like to be to split time with either Cedric
- 14:01Speaker 1: Mullens or Ryan O'Hearn. And this is a guy who
- 14:06Speaker 1: really shined down the stretch for the Atlanta Braves last year.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I was hoping that he would find a full time
- 14:11Speaker 1: role somewhere. Also, like rip to anybody that's still drafting
- 14:15Speaker 1: Kobe Mayo or your pick during our Al East preview
- 14:19Speaker 1: when you went with Hespin Kirstad because michae Elias just
- 14:23Speaker 1: hates his prospects. I won't trade them, won't play them,
- 14:28Speaker 1: just lets them linger in the minor leagues. But if
- 14:30Speaker 1: you had to, like pick one player to show up
- 14:34Speaker 1: for your fantasy team and occupy a spot on your
- 14:37Speaker 1: roster for an entire season, would you go Baiter or
- 14:39Speaker 1: would you go Loriana?
- 14:41Speaker 3: Do I have to like I just forced you. Yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 3: I mean it's a pretty easy one for me. This
- 14:46Speaker 3: is Leriano just because he can fill the stat page
- 14:50Speaker 3: and when he does play, he says to be useful.
- 14:53Speaker 3: His issue has always been when he plays, not if
- 14:56Speaker 3: he can be useful. He's a little bit streaky things
- 14:58Speaker 3: like that, but he's the kind of guy that you
- 14:59Speaker 3: can plug and play maybe a good lineup, uh in
- 15:02Speaker 3: a in a good ballpark that he's going to hit
- 15:05Speaker 3: and be pretty happy with the outcome. Bader at this
- 15:08Speaker 3: point is like as a glove only guy and just
- 15:11Speaker 3: he had a season or two that he kind of
- 15:13Speaker 3: flashed a little bit of of pop and a little
- 15:16Speaker 3: bit of speed. But it just see, he just seems
- 15:18Speaker 3: lost at this point of the play, and so I'm
- 15:20Speaker 3: not really interesting. You're right, like the the Baltimore landing
- 15:22Speaker 3: spot was probably not ideal. So I'm not gonna probably
- 15:26Speaker 3: own either of them by by any means. But if
- 15:28Speaker 3: I had to take one, Leriano is is I think
- 15:30Speaker 3: has the more better balanced profile that if you're gonna
- 15:34Speaker 3: plug him play, you might get some steals, you might
- 15:37Speaker 3: get some power. You know, there's a little bit of
- 15:39Speaker 3: everything with Leriano. It's just gonna be few and far
- 15:43Speaker 3: between the opportunities in Baltimore.
- 15:45Speaker 1: R I p Heston, Yeah, I mean, in actually looking
- 15:49Speaker 1: at the Baltimore lineup, maybe there is a little more
- 15:53Speaker 1: light for Loreano and your boy Heston because you do
- 15:58Speaker 1: have Ryan o'harn still sitting in that DA spot who
- 16:01Speaker 1: the barrel rate and the hard hit rate really backed
- 16:04Speaker 1: up on him in twenty twenty four, and you know,
- 16:06Speaker 1: never kind of had a great like pedig, I mean
- 16:11Speaker 1: a good pedigree, but like just not a great kind
- 16:13Speaker 1: of like, Oh, this dude is some way we need
- 16:16Speaker 1: to absolutely give at bats too, because he came over
- 16:18Speaker 1: as like a waiver wire pickup from the Royals. You're
- 16:21Speaker 1: also looking at Tyler O'Neil being there left field. That
- 16:24Speaker 1: Tyler O'Neil, I mean, you're gonna count on an Aisle
- 16:28Speaker 1: stent or two for a Hammi pole.
- 16:30Speaker 2: So there's those factors.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Plus Colton Kowser, I think, you know, is coming off
- 16:35Speaker 1: of that injury to his wrist in the playoffs, and
- 16:38Speaker 1: I don't know how that's going.
- 16:39Speaker 2: To sort out.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Cedric Mullins is always kind of up and down with
- 16:42Speaker 1: this roster, so there are more opportunities than maybe I
- 16:45Speaker 1: was giving them shrift for earlier. But yeah, I think
- 16:49Speaker 1: I'm with you Loreano. It's just a more fascinating profile
- 16:52Speaker 1: because of the power that like, I think in the
- 16:55Speaker 1: right situation, Loreano would pace for like a fifteen to
- 16:59Speaker 1: twenty ish season. I really like the profile. It's just
- 17:02Speaker 1: kind of a bummer. He couldn't find a starting job
- 17:04Speaker 1: out there. Okay, well, let's move on to a bit
- 17:09Speaker 1: of card news before we move on to our NL
- 17:11Speaker 1: East preview. We've got i would say one pretty significant
- 17:17Speaker 1: piece of card news in terms of getting into twenty
- 17:21Speaker 1: twenty five collecting. We talked about a couple of weeks
- 17:24Speaker 1: ago where Tops is bringing in Barry Bonds. He's coming
- 17:28Speaker 1: back and we'll have autos. They've got another superstar lined
- 17:31Speaker 1: up to be back in twenty twenty five products, and
- 17:33Speaker 1: that is Mookie Bets, who maybe people even weren't aware
- 17:37Speaker 1: that he hasn't been signing for cards in quite some time.
- 17:40Speaker 1: That like you, I've actually noticed this when we've been
- 17:44Speaker 1: doing our PC picks over the past year, that like
- 17:47Speaker 1: we pick a lot of non autographed Mookie Bets cards,
- 17:52Speaker 1: but that's because there weren't any so Bets is back.
- 17:56Speaker 1: He will be in the twenty twenty five TOPS products.
- 18:01Speaker 1: It will I think I'll still kind of maybe I'll
- 18:03Speaker 1: levy a little bit of the pressure on the market
- 18:05Speaker 1: for Bets because like some of those Prospect autos and
- 18:08Speaker 1: early on autos when he was still signing go for
- 18:11Speaker 1: a pretty penny, because he hasn't been signing in over
- 18:14Speaker 1: the years. So great news if you were in the
- 18:16Speaker 1: in the market for a Bets autograph, But what do
- 18:19Speaker 1: you think for this going forward? And yeah, are you
- 18:23Speaker 1: excited to win Mookie Bets wins, a Player of the
- 18:25Speaker 1: Month award or two to pick some crazy autograph card?
- 18:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it is actually just fantastic, Like you
- 18:33Speaker 3: don't recognize it. You don't realize that when you're collecting,
- 18:35Speaker 3: like some of these guys don't sign and then all
- 18:37Speaker 3: of a sudden you're like, look, I'm like man, like, yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 3: I've never had a chance to pull on Mookie Bets
- 18:41Speaker 3: or or sell one or by like you just don't
- 18:44Speaker 3: see him around and just like this starts to rectors
- 18:46Speaker 3: there like yeah, so there's gonna be a really pent
- 18:48Speaker 3: up demand for Mookie Bets, especially in the Dodgers uniform
- 18:51Speaker 3: auto cards, Like those things are going to be very,
- 18:55Speaker 3: very collectible. I think this is actually bigger news in
- 18:58Speaker 3: the very bonds if you if you asked me from
- 18:59Speaker 3: an actual active player signing cards, like, because there's something
- 19:04Speaker 3: maybe it's just me something of the retired players signing
- 19:06Speaker 3: like yeah, like they got the time of their hands
- 19:07Speaker 3: to be able to do that. Right, whereas Mooki like
- 19:10Speaker 3: it's it's you know, they had to swing a pretty
- 19:12Speaker 3: good deal or something for Mooki to sign after all
- 19:15Speaker 3: these years. So I think that's really exciting, really great
- 19:17Speaker 3: news for the hobby.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 19:20Speaker 1: And then let's get into that baseball release calendar. So
- 19:24Speaker 1: we do have the Big Guy coming out on February fifteenth,
- 19:28Speaker 1: Tops twenty twenty five, Series one is coming out. We're
- 19:31Speaker 1: gonna have a special podcast coming up. We're gonna have
- 19:34Speaker 1: a two podcast week next week. One of them will
- 19:36Speaker 1: be covering Top Series one, so certainly check that out.
- 19:40Speaker 2: We're gonna have the whole shi bang.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Up on ras Ball with the related posts so you
- 19:46Speaker 1: can see pictures of the designs as we get into
- 19:49Speaker 1: some of our favorite inserts and all sorts of little details.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Because this is the big release every year and it's
- 19:55Speaker 1: gonna be exciting. I'm pumped for it, mostly because I'm
- 19:59Speaker 1: in on the designed for twenty twenty five. As we've discussed,
- 20:02Speaker 1: after kind of being out the past couple of years.
- 20:04Speaker 1: It's a great design that I think is gonna age.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Fairly well too. So brew let everybody know what else
- 20:11Speaker 2: is coming on the calendar because we had some additions,
- 20:13Speaker 2: some late editions from twenty twenty four, still can keeping
- 20:17Speaker 2: those printing presses going.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Yeah, so the full rundown here because you mentioned a
- 20:23Speaker 3: series one. We got the Panini three and two coming
- 20:25Speaker 3: out on about a week from today. Three and two
- 20:28Speaker 3: is a pretty cool product if you're really into patches, relics,
- 20:31Speaker 3: things like that. Got the Panini Prospect Edition coming out
- 20:35Speaker 3: later this month and select. But we also have kind
- 20:38Speaker 3: of some holding patterns for your heritage high number, which
- 20:41Speaker 3: is to me a very hit or missed products, sometimes great,
- 20:44Speaker 3: sometimes not so great. Panini Flawless and Pinian National Treasures
- 20:48Speaker 3: two huge products in the Panini realm. Those are absolutely
- 20:52Speaker 3: beautiful cards. Kind of comes down to are you a
- 20:55Speaker 3: licensed card guy or not? And I think both of
- 20:59Speaker 3: those are still kind of TBD on the timing. And
- 21:03Speaker 3: the other one I want to call out that just
- 21:05Speaker 3: came out I believe was on the twenty fifth of Ganuary,
- 21:09Speaker 3: but we didn't really hit it previously was Diamond Icons
- 21:12Speaker 3: came out for tops, and I want to call this
- 21:14Speaker 3: out for two reasons, Like when you talk about premium products,
- 21:16Speaker 3: Diamond Icons is like one of the most premium products.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Our tops hobby boxes are roughly four thousand dollars this
- 21:24Speaker 3: time around, and I think you get like ten cards.
- 21:26Speaker 3: I think you get each ten card box, nine autograph
- 21:30Speaker 3: cards or eight autographs sulused to cut signature, and one relic.
- 21:33Speaker 3: It's kind of odd that you get the one relic
- 21:36Speaker 3: in verse of a normal hobby box. But they're also
- 21:39Speaker 3: touting a new card technology this year with diamond icons,
- 21:44Speaker 3: and they call it their liquid Silver technology, which is
- 21:48Speaker 3: kind of a combination of chrome and actual also like
- 21:52Speaker 3: three D kind of cars like multi dimensional cards, not
- 21:55Speaker 3: really three D, but you know, has a lot more
- 21:57Speaker 3: texture and depth to it and so very interesting. Please
- 22:01Speaker 3: don't go buy diamond icons one of those products that
- 22:05Speaker 3: I think it's one of those that you could probably buy.
- 22:07Speaker 3: You know, there's only like ten cards in the set,
- 22:09Speaker 3: probably worth more than the entire hobby box like at
- 22:11Speaker 3: the end of the day, but still a really cool,
- 22:14Speaker 3: cool thing coming out. But it's one of those maybe
- 22:17Speaker 3: wait a few few years to pick up diamond icons
- 22:20Speaker 3: of your favorite players. So lots of fun coming out
- 22:23Speaker 3: or just came out. But we're still trying our best
- 22:26Speaker 3: to finish up twenty twenty four while getting into twenty
- 22:29Speaker 3: twenty five with Top Series one. So lots of fun
- 22:31Speaker 3: stuff going on the card card market and excited to
- 22:34Speaker 3: break down Series one here before too long for you guys.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree, and it is really fair. I'll
- 22:41Speaker 1: be fascinated to see when they bring out twenty twenty
- 22:43Speaker 1: four Heritage High Number because obviously, I think the big
- 22:47Speaker 1: thing holding that back.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Is the Paul schemes of it all.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So you have to imagine he's signing a decent number
- 22:53Speaker 1: of real one autographs for that product, and it's gonna
- 22:57Speaker 1: look really great on that nineteen seven five design that
- 23:01Speaker 1: twenty twenty four Tops used, So.
- 23:05Speaker 2: That will be I.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Think a big, big boost to the market when that hits,
- 23:09Speaker 1: probably pretty soon after series one. I would imagine that
- 23:12Speaker 1: once they got that on the calendar they were able
- 23:14Speaker 1: to kind of map it out from there, because yeah,
- 23:17Speaker 1: it's it's full boar ahead as we get into the
- 23:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty five releases after series one, they should be
- 23:21Speaker 1: coming hot and heavy after that.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Okay, well, we're going to take a quick break, but
- 23:27Speaker 1: stick around because when we come back from that break,
- 23:30Speaker 1: we're going to get into our NL East preview with
- 23:34Speaker 1: Joe Rico stick around everybody, all right.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Welcome back everybody.
- 23:53Speaker 1: We're going to dive right into our NL Least preview
- 23:56Speaker 1: and to help us out with this division. This week,
- 23:59Speaker 1: we've got another great guest on. We've got Joe Urrico
- 24:02Speaker 1: from Fangrass and Fantasy Pros. How you doing tonight, Joe,
- 24:05Speaker 1: and welcome to the pod.
- 24:07Speaker 4: I'm doing fantastic. I really appreciate you guys bringing me
- 24:11Speaker 4: on tonight. Mike. It was great to get to hang
- 24:13Speaker 4: out with you in Arizona. I know we were having
- 24:15Speaker 4: some great conversations down there, so it's gonna be good
- 24:18Speaker 4: to kind of expand on those. It's been a while,
- 24:20Speaker 4: but it should be a lot of fun tonight, guys.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree. So let everybody know where they
- 24:24Speaker 1: can reach you on socials and find your work specifically
- 24:28Speaker 1: outside of Fangrass, Fantasy Pros or anything else you want
- 24:30Speaker 1: to plug.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Everything I do, generally speaking, gets shared out over on
- 24:35Speaker 4: Twitter at Joe Rico ninety nine. I have a Blue
- 24:37Speaker 4: Sky account. I'm I'm still so like Twitter. I'm so
- 24:41Speaker 4: used to Twitter that I just end up posting a
- 24:42Speaker 4: lot of stuff on there, and then sometimes I'll be like,
- 24:44Speaker 4: oh yeah, I got to post the links over on
- 24:46Speaker 4: Blue Sky, So if I do anything significant, you'll find
- 24:49Speaker 4: the links on both. But Twitter is the best way
- 24:52Speaker 4: to just see those links of different podcasts that I
- 24:54Speaker 4: do at Fantasy Pros or any other writing I do
- 24:56Speaker 4: at Fangraphs. Social media is generally the best way to
- 24:59Speaker 4: find those.
- 25:00Speaker 1: All right, that sounds great, Well, let's get right into
- 25:03Speaker 1: the na least. We're going to do our normal setup
- 25:06Speaker 1: that we've done the past few preview pods here where
- 25:09Speaker 1: we're going to go through each team in alphabetical order,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and for each team, we're we're going to pick one buy,
- 25:17Speaker 1: one cell, and one prospect pick to click. So those
- 25:20Speaker 1: categories are kind of broad, but we're especially going to
- 25:23Speaker 1: be looking at NFBC ADP data for those buys and
- 25:26Speaker 1: cells to try to kind of hone in on redraftees.
- 25:29Speaker 1: But like I said, you can get a little interesting
- 25:33Speaker 1: with your picks. None of us know what each other
- 25:37Speaker 1: has picked, so I think that's been one of the
- 25:39Speaker 1: more fun parts about this preview. We're going to kick
- 25:42Speaker 1: off with the Atlanta Braves, who last year came just
- 25:46Speaker 1: shy of the division title, going eighty nine and seventy
- 25:49Speaker 1: three as injuries hampered them down the stretch. It was
- 25:53Speaker 1: really fascinating how they were even able to be a
- 25:56Speaker 1: playoff team considering the losses they sustained to the likes
- 25:59Speaker 1: of a Kuna Strid, Austin Reiley, and others throughout that squad, So.
- 26:04Speaker 2: They should be retooled.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Actually, fan Grafts, your fangrafs, you guys just dropped your
- 26:08Speaker 1: playoff odds today. Looks like the Braves are one of
- 26:12Speaker 1: the favorites for the World Series overall. Kind of makes
- 26:15Speaker 1: sense when you're bringing back an MVP candidate like a Kunya.
- 26:19Speaker 1: But we're focused on the fantasy stuff here, Joe, who
- 26:22Speaker 1: is your buye from the Atlanta Braves?
- 26:25Speaker 4: So I have chosen Ozzi Alby's the returning second basement.
- 26:29Speaker 4: I mean he was there last year, but he did
- 26:30Speaker 4: miss a lot of time. It felt like he wasn't
- 26:32Speaker 4: really around only ninety nine games. But one of the
- 26:35Speaker 4: things I do at Fangrafts, the main thing I've done
- 26:38Speaker 4: throughout the offseason is keep tabs on the second base rankings.
- 26:41Speaker 4: Actually just updated them today if you guys want to
- 26:43Speaker 4: go check them out. But Ozzie Alby's is in that
- 26:45Speaker 4: kind of elite tier for me, and it's a position
- 26:48Speaker 4: where I really want to lock down an elite player
- 26:51Speaker 4: because second base is one of those It's not awful,
- 26:53Speaker 4: but it's pretty pretty bad once you get out of
- 26:56Speaker 4: the top ten or so names. And I think with
- 26:57Speaker 4: all Ozzie Albi's, you're getting a guy who Ostin will
- 27:00Speaker 4: be healthy to begin the season, a guy who in
- 27:02Speaker 4: each of the past two full seasons we've seen thirty
- 27:06Speaker 4: three and thirteen and thirty and twenty, both of them
- 27:09Speaker 4: with pretty solid batting averages in the two eighty and
- 27:11Speaker 4: two sixty range. So I think with a full season,
- 27:14Speaker 4: hopefully we get Acuna back. I know there's been some
- 27:16Speaker 4: talk about first weekend of May, there is a series
- 27:19Speaker 4: against the Dodgers he's targeting. So we get five months
- 27:21Speaker 4: of Akunya, we get Austin Riley who's going to hopefully
- 27:24Speaker 4: bounce back as well Matt Olson bouncing back. We have
- 27:27Speaker 4: to hope for a lot of bounce backs with the Braves.
- 27:29Speaker 4: But I think if everybody is doing what they're supposed
- 27:32Speaker 4: to be doing, there's no reason why Albi's can't come
- 27:33Speaker 4: close to that one hundred and one hundred run in
- 27:35Speaker 4: RBI total somewhere in the thirty home run range while
- 27:39Speaker 4: giving you stolen bases in a pretty decent batting average.
- 27:41Speaker 4: He's not going to hit three hundred or compete for
- 27:43Speaker 4: the batting title, but somewhere in the two sixty range.
- 27:45Speaker 4: I really like Ozzi Alby's. He's been a big target
- 27:48Speaker 4: of mine in the fifth roughly the fifth round generally
- 27:51Speaker 4: speaking this year by ADP. That of course depends on
- 27:53Speaker 4: if you're playing in twelves or fifteen's, but my favorite
- 27:56Speaker 4: target on the braves this year is definitely going to
- 27:58Speaker 4: be Ozzie Alby's.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I like this pick. I've always been an Albi's fan.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Brew I forget.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Are you pro Albi's or anti Albi's, I just.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Because I usually have an opinion, I am pro Albi's
- 28:09Speaker 3: for sure.
- 28:11Speaker 2: I like him.
- 28:12Speaker 3: We talk off on this podcast about how the game
- 28:14Speaker 3: has changed with the last few years, and you need
- 28:16Speaker 3: power and speed early and in a you know, fourth,
- 28:19Speaker 3: fifth round type scenario, Alby's gives you that. I just
- 28:23Speaker 3: think he's been kind of like forgotten with some of
- 28:25Speaker 3: the injuries and in time he's missed, but like the
- 28:28Speaker 3: after the there's like six good second basement maybe maybe five,
- 28:31Speaker 3: depends on how you want to look at it. And
- 28:33Speaker 3: then at that point it's just like it's gone. And
- 28:35Speaker 3: so like having somebody like Alby's is a huge, huge
- 28:38Speaker 3: you get. And when you look at the what's around
- 28:39Speaker 3: the ADP there, I'm like, do I want Albi's or
- 28:42Speaker 3: Pete Alonzo? That's not that hard of a choice for me,
- 28:46Speaker 3: So I yeah, I'm very pro pro Albi's excellent.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I like it was he your pick for the buye
- 28:53Speaker 1: or who is your bye here?
- 28:54Speaker 2: Brew?
- 28:55Speaker 4: Uh?
- 28:56Speaker 3: He was almost my pick. I will give him a
- 28:58Speaker 3: second ring. But there's a guy I absolutely love in
- 29:00Speaker 3: this rotation. His name starts with Spencer. It depends which
- 29:04Speaker 3: one you want. I'm gonna go with schwellen Back there
- 29:08Speaker 3: because oh, you're.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Going the other way.
- 29:11Speaker 3: You thought I was gonna go the other way. You
- 29:13Speaker 3: were already gonna gonna integrated me for that one. But
- 29:17Speaker 3: I like, I love what Spencer Schwellenback can bring to
- 29:20Speaker 3: the to the table. I actually look at what he
- 29:23Speaker 3: did last year is like what he can build upon
- 29:26Speaker 3: a lot of times he comes to the rookie. I
- 29:27Speaker 3: mean he he went through the miners being a roughly
- 29:31Speaker 3: nine to ten strikeout per per nine kind of guy. Uh,
- 29:36Speaker 3: he was just over nine last year. In his rookie season,
- 29:39Speaker 3: he was always in like the two walk per nine.
- 29:41Speaker 3: That's basically where it was last year. But the big
- 29:44Speaker 3: difference was he was always an upper forties or even
- 29:46Speaker 3: mid fifties ground ball guy, and he was low forties
- 29:49Speaker 3: last year. And so like, I just that learning he
- 29:52Speaker 3: has more to go. And that's the recipe for me.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Keep them on the ground, don't put guys on, and
- 29:59Speaker 3: strike just enough to be dangerous. And then you add
- 30:02Speaker 3: on that Atlanta Braves factor of it all. It's I mean,
- 30:06Speaker 3: he's I know he's still going at probably a pretty
- 30:09Speaker 3: high price for a second year pitcher, but I would
- 30:14Speaker 3: not be shocked at all if we were talking about
- 30:16Speaker 3: him as a top ten pitcher next year and he's
- 30:19Speaker 3: he's challenging in all the all those metrics. I mean,
- 30:23Speaker 3: maybe innans cap concerns maybe at the end of the season,
- 30:26Speaker 3: but I'm I'm all in on Schwellenbach.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I love this pick. I mean, I think everyone
- 30:35Speaker 1: all their pods. I've been listening to all of the
- 30:37Speaker 1: stuff that I've been reading in the off season. Schwellenbach
- 30:40Speaker 1: is I think a big favorite for lots of people.
- 30:42Speaker 1: I think he's gonna continually be moving up draft boards.
- 30:45Speaker 1: He has five pitches that are above one hundred stuff plus.
- 30:49Speaker 1: In the sixth there's a ninety eight stuff plus slider,
- 30:55Speaker 1: more meat on the bone. In terms of development, this
- 30:56Speaker 1: is a guy who is a closer for Nebraska, and
- 30:59Speaker 1: so like, yeah, all the arrows here in Strombuck, I
- 31:03Speaker 1: think are pointing up. Joe, are you with us on
- 31:06Speaker 1: this Schwellenbach train?
- 31:09Speaker 4: I am, I am. The price is the price is
- 31:12Speaker 4: pretty expensive. He's been progressively getting more expensive. If you
- 31:16Speaker 4: look on the NFBC, they have like charts if you
- 31:18Speaker 4: click on the player's name and you can see the
- 31:20Speaker 4: picks throughout the draft season and a lot of the time,
- 31:23Speaker 4: and like November, you're seeing him in the one twenties,
- 31:25Speaker 4: one thirties. But if you just short by the recent ADP,
- 31:28Speaker 4: if you're looking just from even the middle of January onward,
- 31:31Speaker 4: he's going in the mid eighties. So he's definitely getting
- 31:33Speaker 4: more expensive. He's becoming more fully priced. But I have
- 31:36Speaker 4: him right in that own right in that ranking range,
- 31:39Speaker 4: in my own rankings of where he is going in ADP.
- 31:42Speaker 4: He's my thirty first starting pitcher, and I mean this
- 31:45Speaker 4: factors in relief pitchers as well on the nfbc's ADP,
- 31:48Speaker 4: but he's the thirty fourth pitcher overall, so we're in
- 31:50Speaker 4: the same general ballpark. The team context is great, the strikeouts,
- 31:54Speaker 4: good command. I think the ground balls are going to
- 31:57Speaker 4: becoming more Like you guys have alluded to. I think
- 31:59Speaker 4: he's very, very good. I just worry that where are
- 32:02Speaker 4: we going from here in the next six weeks. If
- 32:03Speaker 4: this price goes up another couple of rounds, That's what
- 32:05Speaker 4: I'm probably gonna have to top out. As of right now.
- 32:07Speaker 4: This is about as much as I'm willing to pay
- 32:09Speaker 4: for him. But still I think he's a tremendous talent
- 32:11Speaker 4: with tremendous team context. If he was a seventeen game
- 32:14Speaker 4: winner who gave you a three to four ERA, I
- 32:16Speaker 4: wouldn't be surprised at all.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I like it all right.
- 32:21Speaker 1: For my buy, I'm actually, even though I was very
- 32:24Speaker 1: glowing there on Albi's and Schwellenbach, I've got a separate one,
- 32:27Speaker 1: and this one is a deep, deep dart throw. He
- 32:30Speaker 1: is going past pick six hundred his ADP since the
- 32:35Speaker 1: beginning of the year is average pick six eighty four,
- 32:39Speaker 1: currently slated to be the fifth starter in this rotation.
- 32:41Speaker 1: It is Ian Anderson. If you remember this guy from
- 32:44Speaker 1: a few years ago when he made his debut, also
- 32:47Speaker 1: had a really hot rookie card, you know, after that
- 32:50Speaker 1: twenty twenty Braves world Series run or not world Series run,
- 32:54Speaker 1: but deep playoff run, and when he debuted during that
- 32:57Speaker 1: shortened season. What I really like here about Ian Anderson
- 33:00Speaker 1: is a little bit of like what you've talked about,
- 33:02Speaker 1: great ground ball rate. He's been injured, but he was
- 33:05Speaker 1: in the minor leagues coming back last year from a
- 33:09Speaker 1: shoulder and an elbow and finally was getting back on
- 33:13Speaker 1: the mound through sixty eight innings across a couple of stops,
- 33:16Speaker 1: came with a fifty one point nine percent ground ball rate.
- 33:19Speaker 1: By all measures, it sounds like the splitter, slash change,
- 33:23Speaker 1: whatever off speed pitch he's got there, whatever he calls
- 33:26Speaker 1: it is just nasty as all get out. That is
- 33:29Speaker 1: his bread and butter, and honestly, I'm a little surprised
- 33:32Speaker 1: he never came up for the Braves last year in
- 33:35Speaker 1: terms of like just down the stretch needing another arm
- 33:38Speaker 1: that he never quite.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Made that debut in twenty twenty four.
- 33:41Speaker 1: But I think because people, you know, he hasn't pitched
- 33:44Speaker 1: since twenty twenty two, people have lost track of him.
- 33:47Speaker 2: And I think you can get something that is like
- 33:49Speaker 2: a kin to a.
- 33:50Speaker 1: League averages era around four with maybe like eight K
- 33:54Speaker 1: nine and just a good shot at winds on the
- 33:58Speaker 1: Atlanta Braves, I think they are going to use to
- 34:00Speaker 1: start and given the price, I don't think you can
- 34:03Speaker 1: go wrong with Ian Anderson.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's hard to argue with The price is free,
- 34:09Speaker 3: so that's that's usually a price that I like to pay,
- 34:12Speaker 3: you know. I The only thing I have with with
- 34:14Speaker 3: Anderson is what's the control going to be? That's really
- 34:17Speaker 3: what it comes down to for me.
- 34:18Speaker 4: Uh.
- 34:18Speaker 3: He's one of those guys that you look back at
- 34:20Speaker 3: the season and go, man, how do we end up
- 34:22Speaker 3: with a starter that had a one point five whip Like?
- 34:24Speaker 3: That's the kind of guy that I feel like Anderson
- 34:26Speaker 3: could be everything else, you know, the Braves shine of
- 34:29Speaker 3: the of the pitching, you know, he they you know,
- 34:32Speaker 3: he actually got consideration to pitch in the wild Card
- 34:34Speaker 3: Series at the end of the season last year, and
- 34:38Speaker 3: clearly the Braves believe in him, so I there are
- 34:41Speaker 3: worse dart throws for sure at the end of your
- 34:44Speaker 3: rotation than a brave pitcher with with some some good
- 34:48Speaker 3: history and upside. I'm probably gonna stick a steer away
- 34:51Speaker 3: just just that time off and that control is usually
- 34:54Speaker 3: the last thing to come back, so I'll shade away.
- 34:58Speaker 3: But hey, at the price I don't want, you said,
- 35:00Speaker 3: six hundred something.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I don't mind him in a draft and hole type
- 35:08Speaker 4: of format for sure, And at that point you're not
- 35:11Speaker 4: finding many players who have a chance to be viable
- 35:13Speaker 4: rotation arms and the six hundred to six to fifty
- 35:16Speaker 4: type of range. So if people want to want to
- 35:19Speaker 4: take a chance, then I don't mind it at all.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Like I'm not going to look at what he did
- 35:23Speaker 4: last time I was in the big leagues and say
- 35:25Speaker 4: it was terribly encouraging. But what he did last year
- 35:29Speaker 4: in TRIPA A was not too bad at all. It
- 35:31Speaker 4: was a sub for era command. Worries me a little
- 35:34Speaker 4: bit for sure, But at that price it is kind
- 35:36Speaker 4: of hard to go wrong.
- 35:38Speaker 2: All right.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Well, let's move on to the cell side here, so
- 35:41Speaker 1: little time to get more negative. Joe, who is yourself?
- 35:46Speaker 4: So I've gone with Sean Murphy Okay, I don't hate him,
- 35:51Speaker 4: but I think that when you look at the trends
- 35:53Speaker 4: over the last couple of years, they've been pretty bad.
- 35:55Speaker 4: He has been banged up. He's that we only played
- 35:57Speaker 4: seventy two games last year, but we haven't really I've
- 36:00Speaker 4: seen that power the way it was very prevalent, especially
- 36:03Speaker 4: the year prior in twenty twenty three. In the first
- 36:06Speaker 4: half of twenty twenty three, like Sean Murphy looked fantastic,
- 36:09Speaker 4: and then since I guess it was about August of
- 36:12Speaker 4: twenty twenty three, maybe even a little bit before then,
- 36:15Speaker 4: it's been really, really rough. He's been striking out more.
- 36:18Speaker 4: The barrel rate has gone down, the hard hit rate
- 36:20Speaker 4: has gone down quite a lot, from forty five to
- 36:23Speaker 4: thirty six, the barrel from sixteen percent to nine and
- 36:26Speaker 4: a half percent. I worry as he gets older and
- 36:29Speaker 4: he's about to be heading into his age thirty season,
- 36:33Speaker 4: are they going to start and it's going to tie
- 36:35Speaker 4: in with the prospect that I like. So I might
- 36:37Speaker 4: have given that one away a little bit, but they're
- 36:39Speaker 4: kind of tied together. I think Sean Murphy will start
- 36:42Speaker 4: to lose playing time over the course of this season.
- 36:44Speaker 4: I'm not sure that if you are in a one
- 36:45Speaker 4: catcher league, isn't a two catcher league if he's your
- 36:47Speaker 4: second catcher, it's hard to hate that. But there might
- 36:50Speaker 4: be some people who take the chance on him in
- 36:52Speaker 4: a one catcher format thinking he's the Braves catcher, it's
- 36:54Speaker 4: a great lineup, et cetera, et cetera. But I just
- 36:57Speaker 4: think some of the trends over the last couple of
- 36:58Speaker 4: years have been pretty concerned At this point, I just
- 37:01Speaker 4: want to stay away from him altogether.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm torn on Sean Murphy. Like I can see
- 37:06Speaker 1: both sides of the story, like what you're saying in
- 37:07Speaker 1: terms of like the aging curve. On the other side,
- 37:10Speaker 1: like he did he tore that oblique literally on day
- 37:13Speaker 1: one of the twenty twenty four season that he dealt
- 37:16Speaker 1: with last year, So you.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Can see the redemption story.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Brew.
- 37:19Speaker 2: What do you see for Sean Murphy going to twenty
- 37:21Speaker 2: twenty five.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Do you think he can bounce back to being a
- 37:25Speaker 1: useful catcher or is this the beginning of the end.
- 37:29Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, I'm not gonna steal a Joe's thunder here
- 37:32Speaker 3: on the prospect. That was the first comment I was
- 37:34Speaker 3: gonna make when he was saying this is a similar concern.
- 37:38Speaker 3: But I'll let you you take that when when we
- 37:40Speaker 3: get there. But yeah, I think Murphy he had his
- 37:44Speaker 3: best year when he first came over to Atlanta, and
- 37:47Speaker 3: I think that just raised the overall sea level and
- 37:49Speaker 3: prices for him. And now that he's kind of come
- 37:52Speaker 3: back to earth and then started to actually tail off,
- 37:55Speaker 3: like this is not unexpected for a catcher in this
- 37:59Speaker 3: phase of his career, Like it's he's now starting to
- 38:02Speaker 3: go on the wrong side of thirty and he has.
- 38:05Speaker 3: It's been a few years since he's really performed. And frankly,
- 38:08Speaker 3: he's never been great with the bat. He's you know,
- 38:11Speaker 3: his best career years has been two fifty hitter with
- 38:14Speaker 3: twenty homers, Like that's nothing to write home about. But
- 38:17Speaker 3: he just had that one really good year when he
- 38:20Speaker 3: first came came over to Atlanta. He only got a
- 38:23Speaker 3: one hundred eight games, he had twenty one homers and
- 38:25Speaker 3: people are like, oh, I can dream on this. It
- 38:27Speaker 3: just it just hasn't held true. And that was a
- 38:29Speaker 3: little bit luck fueled. So I have no problem with
- 38:32Speaker 3: this one.
- 38:33Speaker 2: All right, who is your cell here for Atlanta?
- 38:37Speaker 3: Well, I'm gonna stay on the same theme. We're gonna
- 38:39Speaker 3: go Spencer again and I'm gonna go on the other
- 38:42Speaker 3: side with Spencer Strider, which this has nothing to do
- 38:46Speaker 3: with the talent on Spencer Strider. I look very clear
- 38:48Speaker 3: Spencer Strider is probably one of the best pitchers in
- 38:51Speaker 3: the game. Love to see him and Paul Skens go
- 38:53Speaker 3: at it, but I just I don't have confidence right now,
- 38:57Speaker 3: and what the heck the Braves are gonna do with him?
- 38:59Speaker 3: From a return perspective, I do think they're one of
- 39:02Speaker 3: the best teams in the in the in the East,
- 39:05Speaker 3: and because of that, I think they're gonna be willing
- 39:07Speaker 3: to kind of play it slow as Strider. They've already
- 39:10Speaker 3: said they're gonna play it slow, and traditionally when people
- 39:14Speaker 3: teams say they're gonna play it slow, they played even slower.
- 39:17Speaker 3: I think Strider wants to come back, but I just
- 39:19Speaker 3: don't have any confidence anywhere from April first to July
- 39:23Speaker 3: first of when we're going to see Strider, and it's
- 39:27Speaker 3: definitely baked into his price. He's the fifty third pitcher
- 39:29Speaker 3: going off the board. But I'll go around there and
- 39:33Speaker 3: take Jack Flaherty. I'll take you see Kakuchi, I'll take.
- 39:39Speaker 3: You know, a guy like Zach Gallen kind of all
- 39:41Speaker 3: in the same range there that I feel like I
- 39:43Speaker 3: know what I'm getting and you know cooler. You and
- 39:46Speaker 3: I have been on this spot long enough that I
- 39:47Speaker 3: always draft every hurt guy.
- 39:50Speaker 2: So Spencer Strider for your boy, yes.
- 39:54Speaker 3: And so I'm trying my best to follow my new
- 39:56Speaker 3: ros resolution from last year and just stay away from
- 39:58Speaker 3: that those questionable of guys because I think he could
- 40:02Speaker 3: potentially win your league if he is there day one.
- 40:04Speaker 3: I just have zero confidence that's gonna happen. So I'm
- 40:07Speaker 3: avoiding that just because I've I don't want to sink
- 40:10Speaker 3: my season before it's even started.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Yeah, he was one of my considerations too, because a
- 40:15Speaker 1: lot of like what you said, and you look at
- 40:17Speaker 1: this Atlanta rotation, it goes pretty deep into the minor leagues,
- 40:21Speaker 1: not only like the Ian Anderson as talking about, but
- 40:24Speaker 1: Grant Holmes has been pretty solid. You still have Smith
- 40:26Speaker 1: shav around, Hurston Waldrip, Bryce Elder for spot starts my
- 40:31Speaker 1: prospect by sitting down there.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Joe, what do you think about Spencer Strider? And like
- 40:37Speaker 2: all of the.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Projection systems, this is what also shocks means, they're all
- 40:40Speaker 1: pretty much slated for him to pitch one hundred and
- 40:43Speaker 1: fifteen to one hundred twenty innings. Are you taking the
- 40:46Speaker 1: over under on that, Joe?
- 40:49Speaker 4: I think they're probably roughly right, but I think it's
- 40:54Speaker 4: I'd probably lean towards the under, just because you never
- 40:56Speaker 4: know with the uncertainty if they're going to hold him
- 40:59Speaker 4: back another week, another two weeks. If they start out
- 41:02Speaker 4: well in April, there's no need to rush them, and
- 41:04Speaker 4: it probably will start out pretty well. So I don't
- 41:08Speaker 4: disagree with this one. I think it depends on your
- 41:10Speaker 4: format to some extent. If you're playing on an NFBC
- 41:12Speaker 4: league where you don't have an IL spot and you
- 41:15Speaker 4: have to just hold Spencer Stryder and you can't replace him.
- 41:18Speaker 4: If those who aren't familiar with the NFBC, you have
- 41:20Speaker 4: seven bench spots and you can choose to do whatever
- 41:22Speaker 4: you like with them, and if you're killing one of
- 41:24Speaker 4: those for two months on Spencer Stryder, that's going to
- 41:27Speaker 4: be pretty detrimental, Especially on the NFBC when you're trying
- 41:30Speaker 4: to find the advantages for the weekend matchups. You're trying
- 41:32Speaker 4: to find a bat going into Coors or Great American Ballpark,
- 41:35Speaker 4: it can really hinder you if you're playing in a
- 41:37Speaker 4: league with an IL spot and he continues to go
- 41:39Speaker 4: around pick one, forty one, fifty and you're getting him
- 41:41Speaker 4: in the eighth to tenth round and you can stick
- 41:43Speaker 4: them on the IL. I'm doing that every single time,
- 41:46Speaker 4: and I'm hoping that when it gets to my home
- 41:48Speaker 4: league draft, which is one of the few that I
- 41:50Speaker 4: still do that has IL spots. Most of my leagues
- 41:52Speaker 4: are NFBC, but I'm hoping those guys haven't done the
- 41:54Speaker 4: research and boost up around or so, because even if
- 41:57Speaker 4: I'm paying like you know, one twenty or something like
- 41:59Speaker 4: that for bencer Strider, I don't really care if he
- 42:01Speaker 4: misses two months if he's on the IL, especially in
- 42:03Speaker 4: a tenor at twelve team league where you can get
- 42:05Speaker 4: replacement level value that's really really high off the wire.
- 42:08Speaker 4: So it is kind of format dependent, But I don't
- 42:11Speaker 4: have any problem with fading a guy going into the
- 42:13Speaker 4: season injured. We've played the same song for many years now.
- 42:16Speaker 4: We know how it generally works. When a guy starts
- 42:18Speaker 4: off the season injured. Maybe he comes back and looks great,
- 42:21Speaker 4: but it's safer to bet against that.
- 42:24Speaker 3: It's one thing for me to say this in the
- 42:26Speaker 3: pod here in February, just hit the draft table like
- 42:30Speaker 3: it's gonna be really hard when he's sitting there and
- 42:32Speaker 3: you're looking at the rest of the options around it
- 42:34Speaker 3: and being in. The first report out of spring training
- 42:36Speaker 3: is that he's throwing gas. Like right, it's gonna it's
- 42:38Speaker 3: gonna be hard to pass that up.
- 42:41Speaker 4: So especially that report that they want him to have
- 42:42Speaker 4: a regular spring training but they're not going to have
- 42:44Speaker 4: him start the regular season, Like what is that? What
- 42:47Speaker 4: is that? Like?
- 42:47Speaker 3: That was honestly that report was what actually did it
- 42:50Speaker 3: in for me. I'm just like, I'm not playing that game.
- 42:55Speaker 4: Totally fair.
- 42:56Speaker 1: All right, Well, my cell here is actually the other
- 42:59Speaker 1: injured star for the Braves and it's I mean, it's
- 43:02Speaker 1: Ronald Lacuna Junior. All day long, I cannot get on
- 43:06Speaker 1: board with spending a second round pick on this guy,
- 43:08Speaker 1: who again, I mean actually, compared to what they were
- 43:11Speaker 1: saying glowingly about Strider, Atlanta has already said, hey, this
- 43:15Speaker 1: guy's not going to play at least for the first month,
- 43:17Speaker 1: So you're already knocking off that set of played appearances.
- 43:21Speaker 2: All the projections, and when you put him into.
- 43:23Speaker 1: An auction calculator have him slated for like thirty five
- 43:26Speaker 1: to forty stolen bases. I don't know if that's really
- 43:30Speaker 1: gonna be the route that he goes, considering he's coming
- 43:33Speaker 1: back from you know, the second ACL tear on the
- 43:36Speaker 1: other knee, so both knees have been repaired.
- 43:39Speaker 2: You're looking at on.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Top of this all, before the injury, Ronald Lacuna's profile
- 43:46Speaker 1: was really not looking so hot. The whiffs had kind
- 43:49Speaker 1: of come back into his game compared to where he
- 43:53Speaker 1: peaked in twenty twenty three. You kind of saw some
- 43:55Speaker 1: regression in before that. The ISO had really taken a
- 43:59Speaker 1: step back. The hard hit rate took a step back,
- 44:02Speaker 1: the barrel rate.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Took a step back.
- 44:05Speaker 1: And so he does all that then tears his ACL,
- 44:08Speaker 1: and I can't get on board with a second round
- 44:11Speaker 1: pick when you're looking at really needing to build your
- 44:14Speaker 1: team out at that point that you know you're passing
- 44:16Speaker 1: on just more solid options that you know are going
- 44:19Speaker 1: to play and going to be able to put up
- 44:21Speaker 1: numbers between even Jazz Chisholm, Trey Turner, Jackson, Merrill, Catel Marte,
- 44:26Speaker 1: Austin Riley. I know there's like some names in there
- 44:28Speaker 1: that we're not always biggest fans of, but like we're
- 44:31Speaker 1: not big fans of taking them in like the early
- 44:34Speaker 1: second round sort of thing. And so if Akunya, like
- 44:37Speaker 1: if it levels out to where you know you can
- 44:40Speaker 1: buy him for more of like a I think part
- 44:43Speaker 1: of it is just like I'm going to be way
- 44:44Speaker 1: under the projections on this something more like a two
- 44:47Speaker 1: eighty with twenty something bombs and maybe thirty stolen bases
- 44:53Speaker 1: like twenty five I is more like it. That's where
- 44:56Speaker 1: I've kind of got him because I just don't see
- 44:58Speaker 1: how this recover so quickly, because he's kind of got
- 45:01Speaker 1: a couple of hurdles to get past, not only the injury,
- 45:05Speaker 1: but just trying to unwind whatever performance he had put
- 45:08Speaker 1: in and those sporty nine games before he went down.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the question ultimately with the CUNA is
- 45:17Speaker 3: how much how much does he run? Like yeah, I
- 45:20Speaker 3: mean he's running on like forty year old knees at
- 45:22Speaker 3: this point, and so he can steal seventy, he can
- 45:25Speaker 3: steal seven, like I would not be shocked with you.
- 45:28Speaker 3: I Mean, those are both unlikely outcomes, but like that's
- 45:32Speaker 3: I feel like there's a crazy range for him here,
- 45:34Speaker 3: and you're expecting at this point to have that. So
- 45:37Speaker 3: I almost look at the Braves at this point and
- 45:38Speaker 3: be like, man, are you gonna have a full team
- 45:41Speaker 3: to start the season, Like there's plenty of guys, but
- 45:44Speaker 3: do we have Bryce Elder and Jared Kellnick or do
- 45:46Speaker 3: we have Spencer Strider and Ronald Acunya. Like there's a
- 45:49Speaker 3: wide range of outcomes here, so I'm clear that gonna
- 45:53Speaker 3: argue with you, or I just threw the other injured starrups,
- 45:55Speaker 3: so no concerns here. But again, you get that draft
- 45:59Speaker 3: table and the Kunya in there, it's easy to dream.
- 46:02Speaker 4: It's easy to dream.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:03Speaker 1: And the other thing too is I just don't know
- 46:05Speaker 1: how you successfully build your team after that if you
- 46:09Speaker 1: don't know what range of stlee bases he is going
- 46:11Speaker 1: to give you, you.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Know, if it's going to be high or low.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Like it, you can't kind of plan into the next
- 46:17Speaker 1: few rounds to say, oh, yeah, I need somebody who
- 46:20Speaker 1: can pop thirty stone bases or no, I can actually
- 46:23Speaker 1: go somebody who has a good average or has good power.
- 46:26Speaker 1: So just lots lots of things that I just don't
- 46:29Speaker 1: like about that high pick. Okay, let's move on to
- 46:32Speaker 1: our prospect pick to clicks, Joe, I think you allude
- 46:36Speaker 1: to who I might even just like kind of put
- 46:40Speaker 1: him in there, start penciling him in before you say it.
- 46:42Speaker 1: But I will hand the floor over to you. Who
- 46:44Speaker 1: is your prospect pick to click? Possibly a backstep.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Yeah, So I've gone here with Drake Baldwin, and it
- 46:53Speaker 4: does kind of tie into the narrative with Sean Murphy.
- 46:56Speaker 4: I feel like over the course of the season there's
- 46:59Speaker 4: a good chance that they start to turn to Baldwin. So,
- 47:01Speaker 4: first off, he's gonna be twenty four years old next month.
- 47:03Speaker 4: He's not some nineteen year old that they'd have to rush.
- 47:06Speaker 4: He's at the age where he is ready to make
- 47:09Speaker 4: that jump. And if you look at what he's done
- 47:10Speaker 4: specifically last year throughout the Miners, it's really impressive stuff.
- 47:14Speaker 4: Sixteen homers over one hundred and twenty four games. The
- 47:17Speaker 4: ratios are really nice, thirteen percent walk right, seventeen percent
- 47:21Speaker 4: strikeout right. He hit two seventy six. The WRC plus
- 47:24Speaker 4: was one nineteen. He's projected as an above average defensive catcher.
- 47:29Speaker 4: I just think when you're looking at a talent like
- 47:31Speaker 4: this up and coming when you don't really have any
- 47:33Speaker 4: reason to hold him down in the minors any longer.
- 47:35Speaker 4: He's been in the miners in their system now for
- 47:37Speaker 4: three whole seasons. I feel like, and this might be
- 47:40Speaker 4: more intuition, but I have heard some people talk about
- 47:42Speaker 4: that there's a good chance he does come up. I
- 47:44Speaker 4: feel like Baldwin is somebody has like a late investment
- 47:47Speaker 4: in drafts and just pulling up his ADP. He is
- 47:50Speaker 4: going in re draft leagues where even is he if
- 47:54Speaker 4: I can pull him up here, five thirty is the ADP.
- 47:57Speaker 4: So in those draft champions, if you're looking for like
- 48:00Speaker 4: a third or a fourth catcher, I think he's a
- 48:03Speaker 4: really nice target who you might end up getting something
- 48:06Speaker 4: closer to that ZIPS projection, which is one hundred and
- 48:08Speaker 4: five games. Zips does project more for like a whole
- 48:10Speaker 4: season for everybody. But if you get thirteen homers fifty
- 48:13Speaker 4: seven RBI in a two thirty five batting average out
- 48:16Speaker 4: of a catcher you take in the five thirties, not
- 48:18Speaker 4: to mention going into a good lineup, if if if
- 48:21Speaker 4: my thing breaks right here and he actually does get
- 48:23Speaker 4: into the starting lineup, then I think then you could
- 48:25Speaker 4: be looking at potentially like sixty runs sixty RBIs from him,
- 48:28Speaker 4: So there is some risk to it, but you don't
- 48:30Speaker 4: have to pay up a whole lot in the draft
- 48:31Speaker 4: room for him.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 48:33Speaker 1: And if you look at the catchers going around him
- 48:35Speaker 1: in that area, Carson Kelly and Victor Carrottini, So like, yeah,
- 48:39Speaker 1: if you need to chase a little bit of upside
- 48:41Speaker 1: a catcher and draft and hold, I think Drake Baldwin's
- 48:45Speaker 1: a great course.
- 48:47Speaker 3: They call that the warm body part of the draft.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it starts getting there. Who's your picker group?
- 48:53Speaker 3: Yeah, so I want the other spectrum definitely guy not
- 48:56Speaker 3: getting drafted. And I think I was really inspired by
- 49:00Speaker 3: our discussions last week when we went a little too deep,
- 49:02Speaker 3: and so I'm going with the starter here. I'm going
- 49:04Speaker 3: with D D R Fluentz. And if you haven't heard
- 49:08Speaker 3: of d d Or Fuentez, he's a nineteen year old
- 49:12Speaker 3: that has only made it to a ball and he's
- 49:16Speaker 3: a starter with a ninety eight mile hour fastball. He
- 49:19Speaker 3: is a slider, splitter guy, and he just lit it
- 49:22Speaker 3: up last year as a nineteen year old in single
- 49:25Speaker 3: A h he had a thirty two percent strike up
- 49:28Speaker 3: k rate. He had a seven percent walk rate, which
- 49:30Speaker 3: theres have been questions about some of his command. And
- 49:34Speaker 3: so he's one of those that he signed as a
- 49:35Speaker 3: free agent in twenty two out of Columbia, and he's like,
- 49:40Speaker 3: he is going to be shooting up prospect rankings. There's
- 49:43Speaker 3: no question about it. He is electric. He got in
- 49:48Speaker 3: a he actually got in seventy five innings as a
- 49:50Speaker 3: nineteen year old last year, which I think is something
- 49:54Speaker 3: really actually impressive and bringing in a two seven four
- 49:57Speaker 3: era while like I said, mowing down guys that here
- 50:01Speaker 3: are two three years older than him and Coolly, I'm
- 50:04Speaker 3: speaking your language. I know you like these young guys
- 50:06Speaker 3: at lout level. So I'm expecting high A, maybe even
- 50:10Speaker 3: touching a double A this year in his twenty year
- 50:13Speaker 3: old season. And let's be clear, it's not like he
- 50:15Speaker 3: just he's barely nineteen. He's he's nineteen and a half.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Like he's going to be nineteen for the majority of
- 50:21Speaker 3: this season. So I think he's gonna be a guy
- 50:23Speaker 3: we're talking about next year of that next kind of
- 50:25Speaker 3: great Atlanta prospect that they're going to rush through the system.
- 50:29Speaker 3: And that's the other reason I like this. This kind
- 50:32Speaker 3: of pick is that it's normally a guy like this.
- 50:36Speaker 4: You're talking three.
- 50:36Speaker 3: Four years at Atlanta, Like, we're talking to guy that
- 50:40Speaker 3: kind of clicks in twenty five and is actually consideration
- 50:43Speaker 3: in twenty six with this kind of stuff. So I'm
- 50:46Speaker 3: excited about him. I'm going deep a little bit more
- 50:49Speaker 3: than we traditionally do, but definitely a guy that should
- 50:52Speaker 3: be available in vast majority of leagues. And if you're
- 50:55Speaker 3: in a dynasty league or one of those formats late
- 50:58Speaker 3: in the draft, this is a great, great dart throw.
- 51:02Speaker 2: I like it. I was just clicking through adding him
- 51:05Speaker 2: to all my watch lists.
- 51:06Speaker 3: So it doesn't find me absolutely why I hate our
- 51:09Speaker 3: podcast at times, because I never could own these guys anymore.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Yes, I'm also sticking on the pitching side, and I'm
- 51:16Speaker 1: going with a personal kind of goober that I can
- 51:19Speaker 1: never quit, I don't think.
- 51:21Speaker 2: And his roiber salinis as.
- 51:23Speaker 1: He came up with the Braves, he signed with them
- 51:27Speaker 1: out of Venezuela and just showed up with crazy k
- 51:31Speaker 1: rates throughout the minor league. Stops big, big fastball on
- 51:35Speaker 1: him as well as a loud slider. The problem here
- 51:39Speaker 1: is that the Command's always been a little bit shaky.
- 51:41Speaker 1: He was traded in that Sean Murphy trade with Shalan
- 51:47Speaker 1: Eliers over to the Athletics. The Athletics couldn't quite harness
- 51:51Speaker 1: that control. What did the Braves do in the off
- 51:53Speaker 1: season here? They actually claimed him back from the Athletics
- 51:57Speaker 1: after the A's designated him for assignment, moved him on
- 52:02Speaker 1: to Well, no, he's not on the forty man roster
- 52:04Speaker 1: right now, let me check it again.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got.
- 52:07Speaker 1: An NRI for spring training, but not on the forty
- 52:11Speaker 1: man roster. We've just kind of gone through lots of
- 52:14Speaker 1: names here in terms of like how the Braves have
- 52:17Speaker 1: been good at pitching development. And I also look at
- 52:20Speaker 1: the back into that bullpen. It's a little bit of
- 52:23Speaker 1: Riso Iglesias and a bunch of kind of setup guys
- 52:26Speaker 1: on that bullpen. There's not really a standout closer choice
- 52:29Speaker 1: behind Iglesias. Selnis does have closer stuff. It'd be great
- 52:34Speaker 1: if he could harness it to be able to turn
- 52:35Speaker 1: into a starting pitcher. But if he has to go
- 52:38Speaker 1: to the bullpen, I think this guy becomes like a
- 52:40Speaker 1: really huge weapon where just loud, loud stuff, probably big walks,
- 52:45Speaker 1: but something like a twelve plus K nine as a
- 52:47Speaker 1: reliever that there's a couple of different ways that he
- 52:50Speaker 1: can go and because he got lost in that athletic system,
- 52:55Speaker 1: totally free in Dynasty and Keeper league. So I'm gonna
- 52:58Speaker 1: take a dart again on my boys, Alinas.
- 53:02Speaker 3: I just want to see if you can get blow
- 53:03Speaker 3: seven k per nine. That's all I want to know.
- 53:06Speaker 1: He's not with the ACE, so I think he can
- 53:08Speaker 1: do That's fair. All right, Well, let's move on to
- 53:12Speaker 1: the Miami Marlins.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 53:14Speaker 1: I mean we're gonna be talking al Central next week,
- 53:16Speaker 1: so we're gonna have the bleakest team in the league
- 53:19Speaker 1: coming that week. I think this is probably the second bleakest.
- 53:22Speaker 1: It is not a terribly exciting lineup. The rotation is
- 53:28Speaker 1: banged up, and the bullpen is rough. That like, it
- 53:34Speaker 1: is maybe fun to try to throw some darts at
- 53:36Speaker 1: some of that bullpen, but you have to remember that
- 53:38Speaker 1: this is not a team that's going to be producing.
- 53:40Speaker 1: To me, saves this division in the and Eleast. Probably
- 53:43Speaker 1: should totally steamroll with the Marlins as they continue rebuilding
- 53:47Speaker 1: under Peter Bendix. But with all those parameters of mine, Joe,
- 53:51Speaker 1: who is your buy and this.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Roster, I am going with the returning ace and cy
- 53:57Speaker 4: Young winner Sandy al Contra. Yeah, I know that there's
- 54:01Speaker 4: going to be some risk. There'll be some people who
- 54:03Speaker 4: are avoiding him off the injury, but I would argue
- 54:06Speaker 4: that because he was healthy at the end of last
- 54:08Speaker 4: season and he wanted to pitch at the end of
- 54:10Speaker 4: last season. But there was there was no point. They
- 54:13Speaker 4: were already I think they were probably eliminated from playoff
- 54:15Speaker 4: contention in may Or or June, and I'm only slightly exaggerating,
- 54:19Speaker 4: so there was no real point for the Marlins to
- 54:21Speaker 4: rush him back. But I think now that he has
- 54:24Speaker 4: had not only that time last year to recover, but
- 54:27Speaker 4: now an entire offseason on top of it as well,
- 54:30Speaker 4: I think that Sandy can return, maybe not to full
- 54:33Speaker 4: form immediately, but let's say we even get that Zips projection,
- 54:37Speaker 4: which is the low actually ATC is slightly lower, So
- 54:40Speaker 4: I'll use that one one hundred and fifty three innings.
- 54:42Speaker 4: If you get those one hundred and fifty three innings
- 54:44Speaker 4: of a three seven to four era, and you're getting
- 54:46Speaker 4: a whip in the one point one five to one
- 54:48Speaker 4: point two range going around pick one fifty, because that's
- 54:52Speaker 4: the real thing here, he's not priced like Sandy al Contra.
- 54:54Speaker 4: His ADP over the last thirty five drafts on the
- 54:58Speaker 4: NFBC the Draft Champions is one hundred and sixty two.
- 55:02Speaker 4: So at that range in the eleventh round, I'll take
- 55:06Speaker 4: a chance on Sandy. There's also a pretty good chance
- 55:09Speaker 4: he gets traded at some point just looking at the
- 55:11Speaker 4: trajectory of the Marlins and my god, I hate to
- 55:13Speaker 4: say it, but he's probably gonna be wearing Dodger blue
- 55:16Speaker 4: at some point in the summer. So even if he's not,
- 55:19Speaker 4: let's say he gets traded anywhere like we had. Just
- 55:21Speaker 4: like you said, off the top, almost anywhere else is
- 55:23Speaker 4: a positive in terms of win potential. So I'll take
- 55:27Speaker 4: the chance on Sandy, even if that doesn't mean I'm
- 55:29Speaker 4: getting two hundred and twenty innings like we were kind
- 55:31Speaker 4: of used to there for a while. Even if it's
- 55:32Speaker 4: one hundred and fifty hundred and sixty, I'll definitely sign
- 55:35Speaker 4: up with that. Where he's going, I like it.
- 55:37Speaker 2: I like it a lot.
- 55:39Speaker 3: I would say the same, but I'm not, Oh no,
- 55:42Speaker 3: you don't like him. Sandy's Sandy's myself. This is why
- 55:46Speaker 3: we want to do this. But it's it's for exactly
- 55:49Speaker 3: the reasons that Joe's talking about is I think people
- 55:54Speaker 3: look at him and he's coming back healthy and they're
- 55:57Speaker 3: paying like he did expect him to be somewhat healthy.
- 55:59Speaker 3: But I actually just don't like the profile of Sandy
- 56:02Speaker 3: al Katara. It's more from the lack of strikeouts perspective
- 56:07Speaker 3: and pitching on the Marlins. I think you make a
- 56:08Speaker 3: great point about a potential trade because I'm looking at
- 56:11Speaker 3: al Kantara here and be like, I'm happy if I
- 56:13Speaker 3: get eight wins out of the guy maybe and you know,
- 56:17Speaker 3: maybe seven and a half eight strikeouts per nine. And
- 56:20Speaker 3: I think that's what scares me a little bit here
- 56:22Speaker 3: with al Katara is like he's been off for a while,
- 56:25Speaker 3: what's gonna bounce back? But more is just the situation
- 56:28Speaker 3: and a lot of the leagues that I'm playing, I
- 56:30Speaker 3: think there is league dependent here if you're talking inning
- 56:32Speaker 3: caps type leagues, like you got to get those strikeouts somewhere,
- 56:35Speaker 3: and so unless you're you know, putting him with Paul Skeens,
- 56:39Speaker 3: like he is a drag on that strikeouts, And at
- 56:42Speaker 3: that point in the draft, I'm not quite ready to
- 56:44Speaker 3: go there for a guy that I'm just not confident
- 56:48Speaker 3: what's gonna happen when he's getting back. So there's like
- 56:50Speaker 3: two or three different strikes for me against it. But
- 56:53Speaker 3: I was out on Elkantara regardless of the injury. I
- 56:56Speaker 3: was out on prior just because he was a little
- 56:59Speaker 3: bit too much of the artists for me and didn't
- 57:01Speaker 3: have that blowway stuff. On the Marlins, he gets traded
- 57:04Speaker 3: to the Dodgers, we can have a different conversation because
- 57:06Speaker 3: he can be in the bullpen and there's nowhere else
- 57:08Speaker 3: to pitch. But yeah, I there's this is a situation.
- 57:14Speaker 3: I guess I'm more selling the Marlins than El Kantar himself,
- 57:18Speaker 3: but I'm okay missing out on this one.
- 57:22Speaker 4: I think those are those are totally fair points. The
- 57:24Speaker 4: strikeouts have always been the thing with him, Like he
- 57:27Speaker 4: would get the two hundred strikeouts, but it's because he
- 57:29Speaker 4: would pitch two hundred and twenty innings and we're not
- 57:31Speaker 4: going to get two hundred and twenty innings this year.
- 57:33Speaker 4: I think the strikeouts where they were the last time
- 57:34Speaker 4: we saw him in twenty twenty three, dipping below twenty percent.
- 57:37Speaker 4: I don't know that that's the true talent level. I
- 57:40Speaker 4: think when you look at the stuff being at one ten,
- 57:43Speaker 4: you look at the velocity being where it is, you
- 57:45Speaker 4: look at the swinging strike rate being like the twelve
- 57:47Speaker 4: to thirteen percent range, I feel like he can be
- 57:49Speaker 4: in the twenty two to twenty four percent strikeout rate,
- 57:52Speaker 4: which is not a huge difference, but it does it
- 57:54Speaker 4: does help out a little bit. But I don't have
- 57:57Speaker 4: any problem with with people fading him either, Like I
- 57:59Speaker 4: totally understand that side of the coin. If he doesn't
- 58:01Speaker 4: get traded and you end up with six wins over
- 58:04Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty five innings, and I'm gonna feel
- 58:05Speaker 4: pretty stupid at the end of the year. But I
- 58:07Speaker 4: think the upside is high enough and the price is
- 58:09Speaker 4: low enough for me personally where I'm willing to take
- 58:11Speaker 4: the chance. Not to say I'm going to be overweight
- 58:13Speaker 4: to the field in terms of my shares, but a
- 58:15Speaker 4: couple of shares here and there, just in case, in
- 58:17Speaker 4: case I miss out. But I totally get the fade
- 58:19Speaker 4: stands as well.
- 58:20Speaker 3: Yeah, there's there's gonna be a wide distribution that on
- 58:22Speaker 3: that draft ADP for sure.
- 58:24Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean I liked this pick for Joe.
- 58:27Speaker 1: I think I actually lean a little bit more towards
- 58:29Speaker 1: the buy, but it's also a little bit of the
- 58:30Speaker 1: way I construct my teams. I mean, you just saw
- 58:33Speaker 1: on the braves, I just took two dudes with like
- 58:36Speaker 1: one point four whips, and so like, if I can
- 58:39Speaker 1: get Sandial Contra's whip contribution to be able to bring
- 58:42Speaker 1: down and absorb some of the back end, you know,
- 58:46Speaker 1: when I'm chasing strikeouts late, especially given the way that
- 58:49Speaker 1: you know our RAS ball strategy of like we usually
- 58:51Speaker 1: kind of fade pictures early that because you got to
- 58:54Speaker 1: make up those k's in the back end. You got
- 58:56Speaker 1: to find somebody who can be a stalwart for you
- 58:58Speaker 1: at whip, you know, to be like your number two
- 59:01Speaker 1: isch starter, which I think Sandy can do. But I
- 59:03Speaker 1: see your point.
- 59:04Speaker 2: Brew.
- 59:05Speaker 4: The point about the minimum and maximum pick though, is
- 59:07Speaker 4: very good because his minimum pick this year and all
- 59:10Speaker 4: NFBC drafts is one hundred and eight. The maximum is
- 59:13Speaker 4: two hundred and forty three.
- 59:14Speaker 2: No geez. Yeah, that's a huge spread. Yeah, it's crazy. Okay, Brew,
- 59:19Speaker 2: who's the yearby here from the from the Marlins.
- 59:22Speaker 3: Oh, I am going with say, it was really sad
- 59:26Speaker 3: to say the fourth guy off the board for the
- 59:28Speaker 3: Marlins with a pick like two seventy, and that is
- 59:32Speaker 3: Connor Norby. I am a big Connor Norby fan. I'm
- 59:36Speaker 3: so disappointed that he was really let go from the
- 59:40Speaker 3: Baltimore organization there and an ill fated trade, But I
- 59:44Speaker 3: think there's a ton of potential for him to be
- 59:47Speaker 3: a fifteen to fifteen type of guy, maybe even upside
- 59:50Speaker 3: on that with kind of a respectable you know, two
- 59:53Speaker 3: sixty two seventy average second base, third base eligibility like
- 59:56Speaker 3: those are both areas that definitely are not as deep
- 59:59Speaker 3: as they happened in the past, and so as if
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: you're going down the draft board looking for upside, this
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: is a guy that has literally nobody.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: Is a way to play.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: They have every reason to give him a shot at
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: the top of the lineup and you know, score as
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: many possible runs for this team, which is probably like
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: eighty max when you were playing on the Marlins. But
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: I think that there is definitely a ton of upside
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: with here with Norby. I'm not gonna call him a
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: breakout by any means, but definitely from a kind of
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: a sleeper perspective, it doesn't seem like he's getting appreciation
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: for what he did at the end of last season,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: and there's nothing in his profile that says he can't
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: do that or more so love Connor Norby. Like I said,
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: I'm gonna give him fifteen and fifteen season, but if
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: he does twenty twenty, I'm not shocked. And at that
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: two seventy EIGHTYP sign me.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: Up all day. Yeah. I like this and should be
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: second and third base eligible.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: Yep, he should be. So we just talked about you
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: know that second base, Cliff there, you miss out on
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: the first five or six second basement wait till Connor Norby.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: I'm perfectly fine with that.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Uh okay, Well my pick I attempted to find somebody
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: out of the top one thousand picks, couldn't quite do it.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: This dude's coming in average seven fifty, which is like
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: the default for like end of the draft. Like has
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: been taken in one draft this month, nine seventy ninth ranked.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: It's their backup catcher Liam Hicks because I'm buying this
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Zips line which really projects him to be able to
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: take over the catcher job or honestly, first base and
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: DH are also wide open as the Marlins between catcher
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: DH and first space have Nick Fortez, Jonah Bride, Griffin Co. Nine,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: and then Liam Hicks, who they picked up in the
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: Rule five draft from the Tigers in the offseason. The
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: Zips line on him is two forty eight three one
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: three thirty two over four hundred and thirty one played appearances,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: because I think Zips is picking up that this guy's
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: going to get a lot of playing time for the Marlins,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: and this is a great kind of catcher two option
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: if you get desperate where I mean, if you can
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: get a catcher too who just kind of is playing
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: enough at catcher to keep you going, but then picking
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: up those extra at bats at first base in DH
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: I mean, he could walk into something like a league
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: average ish batting average with that two forty eight, and
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: then you know, if he puts up fifty runs fifty rbi,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: that goes a long way for a catcher two in
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: like a fifteen team league.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: That he was in my f paz DC.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: I didn't quite take him because I was able to
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: fill catcher before that. But if you get desperate in
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: some of those really deep drafting holes and need another catcher,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: I think Liam Hicks is gonna buy. Honestly, like May
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: beginning pretty much every day at bats here for the
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Miami Marlins.
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: I like it. I like it especially because nobody's saw
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: I haven't heard anybody mention his name all draft season.
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: And there's a lot of drafts. I've done four Draft Champions,
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: and you get into the end and you have like
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: usually three catchers. I'm thinking, well, maybe I want a fourth,
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: you know, and I really want a fourth catcher. Can
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: I get by with three? But the last round next
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: Draft Champions, I'm probably going with Liam.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: CKX glad to bring you hear around.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Welcome to the William Hicks fan Club, because he's gonna
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: be in a lot of my like only articles and
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: then up into fifteen's that catch your thing around.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: It's gonna be a fun Liam Hicks summer. Okay, let's
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: get back to the cells. Joe, it is your turn
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: on the cell.
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: So the thing with the Marlins is it's hard to
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: really sell anybody considering the prices this year.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: You know this was my problem too.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: Everybody is relatively reasonably priced. They don't have a top
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: one hundred player. Heck, they don't have a top one
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: hundred and fifty player. But the player I'm gonna be
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: fading comparatively speaking, is going to have to be Xavier Edwards.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: And it's not to say that I don't like him,
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: but what the price going up the way it is,
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: considering the massive lack of power to the point where
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: the bad X hasn't projected for two home runs nearly
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: six hundred played appearances, it does scream like, this is
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: a huge deficiency for me. If I'm taking him, Excuse me,
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: it's gonna have to be in a build where I
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: have just stupid elite power and no speed, and I'm
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: really hoping to balance that out. And the thing is,
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: if you do that, then you're kind of negating all
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: the good you had by taking all the power bats early,
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: because then you're taking a thirty home run guy with
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: Xavier Edwards. Then you get a couple of fifteen home
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: run guys might as well. So I think he has
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: the potential to do good things, but with the price
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: going up and really him only being an asset in
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: the two categories, and the batting average is not going
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: to be three twenty eight again, it's projected to be somewhere,
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: probably pretty decent in the two seventies. Maybe he gets
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: up to two eighty, but you're not getting any excuse me,
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: you're not getting any homers, you're not getting any RBI.
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: You're probably captain about seventy runs and with a top
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: one fifty pick or in that range. For me, I
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: just I just don't really want to do it. I
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: think I've drafted him once in twelve leagues and that
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: was like what I mentioned earlier, where I just really
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: needed batting average and speed and I didn't feel great
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: about it. So he's generally a fade for me.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: I think, Yeah, I look at this one and you
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: see Mason Win seeing there one one round later, Like
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: Mason Winn could hit three hundred, he has that hit tool.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Does he going to I don't know, but like he
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: has that ability. Could he steal thirty yes? Could he
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: pop fifteen?
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: Like that like you're hoping for that from Xavier Edwards
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: and you know he's not gonna hit fifteen, Like he's
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: the Louis Rayahs of speed. Because yeah, so I have
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: no qualms about it. It was just even seeing him
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: at one fifty, like I know I faded all Contaro,
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: but yeah, I'm right there with you on Edwards too.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: All right, my cell here it's Max Meyer. I'm just
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: not in on the Max Meyer experiencing longer. Part of
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: it is like this is one of those players where
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: you can scout the stat line for the minor leagues
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: and really fool yourself because he was really fantastic coming
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: through the miners, putting up gaudy k rates with you know,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: good control, and then he gets to the majors and
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: it doesn't work. The caves have totally disappeared, and the
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: big reason is that his big fastball just doesn't have
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: great shape and it doesn't fool major league hitterers anymore.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: On top of it all, it.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: Says he's listed at six foot, He's not six foot.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: From watching him pitch, this is a little tiny guy
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: where like he you can see why he's battled shoulder
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: and elbow injuries throughout his career because it takes a
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: lot of effort for him to get up to that velocity.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: And I used to be in on him because I'm
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: a pretty big scout the statline guy for minor leagues,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: but he's become like a pretty good reminder for me of, hey,
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: you do have to put eyes on some of these guys.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: You really need to put.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: Take into a lot more of the qualitative pieces of
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: prospects along with that stat line before you kind of
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: fall into a whole life this. So then you add
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: in just the factor of playing for the Marlins. Honestly,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: will be lucky to reach like five or six wins
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: even over an entire season if he can hold up.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm just out on the Max Meyer experience,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: and even if he goes somewhere else, it's just not
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: I think the picture that he's been build to be.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: I think he's an example of a guy who the
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: organization just kind of ruined him all the games they've
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: played with him, back and forth, up and down. Last season,
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: I was banging my head against the wall seeing these
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: guys that the Marlins were going to be starting and thinking,
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: Where's Max Meyer. Where is Max Meyer? Why are they
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: doing this? They kept him down for so long, and
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: his performance in minor leagues was actually kind of bad
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: in the second half of twenty twenty four. He wasn't
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: even getting minor league batters out. So as much as
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: I hate this, I have to agree with you. I
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: thought Max Meyer was going to be the next big thing,
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: but anywhere else but Miami. He might have been, but
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: not for the Marlins.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: I saw him pitching person at the beginning of last year,
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: and he looked phenomenal. Turns out he was pitching against
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: the Cardinals, who looked just terrible, which been the issue.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: But like it was the same thing, like like he
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: looked great, and then like why did he not get
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: the chance to run? Why didn't they give him?
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: Like there.
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: I feel like that happened so often in this game,
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: where like you have a glimpse and that the player
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: looks like they're ready, and they're like, well, they'll still
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: be there, let me save some time, let me get
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: some service time or something like that. So yeah, I
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: Myers looks like he's got something and it looks like
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: he's lost it.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, let's move on to our prospect pic to click.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: Joe is who is yours here?
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: Somebody that they acquired last year mid season in that
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: trade with Arizona, and I believe it was the AJ
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: Puck trade, but there may have been a couple of
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: trade but no, no, I do believe it was the
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: AJ Puck trade. And it's Davison Della Santos, who was
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: just a monster in the minor leagues last year forty homers,
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty driven in with a two ninety
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: four batting average one thirty two WRC plus. He wasn't
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: quite as effective coming to Miami in the minor league.
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: The strikeout rate went up a little bit, by the
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: numbers were still just unbelievable across the miners. Now. The
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: thing is the if you're looking at roster resource and
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: you're looking for where he is in their lineup right now,
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: you're not going to find him because they currently haven't
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: projected in triple A. I don't know if I really
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: expect that to happen. Considering what he did in the
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: miners last year, does he really have much else to prove?
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: As much as I like Jonah Bride as like a
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: late DC pick, is he really going to be the
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: guy that stops you from starting a guy who was
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: just crushing the miners last year. So I think Dela
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: Santos ends up playing pretty close to what the projections
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: are calling for, and even like the smallest projection is
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: ninety four games up to one thirty six, but let's
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: say he gets to that loftiest one thirty six game
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: projection twenty four homers, seventy five RBI with a two
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: fifty three batting average, and you're getting that right now
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: going around pick four hundred at a position in first
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: base that's not terribly deep. So I really like Dela Santos.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: I know I'm not digging terribly deep on the prospects here.
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: He's one of the top ones, but I'm more of
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: a redraft guy, so I'm taking the low hanging fruit
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: here with divison Dela Santos.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I love del Santos. Brew Revi come down
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: on Dalla Santas going into twenty five.
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat. Like it's
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: you just can't argue it, like you look what he
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: did and looked how he did it, like you can't
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: argue against it, and Arizona just clearly didn't have a
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: spot to give it a chance to run. What I'm
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: intrigued with is he did play a little bit of
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: third base last year, and so like, can he get
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: a little third base eligibility? Is he, you know, can
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: be able to play a few places in the diamond.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: I don't think he's a great defender by any means,
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: but can he you know, sneak that out and if
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: you're gonna do it, Marlins be a spot for it.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: But I think he's one of those ones that's gonna
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: be really fun to watch because I don't think there's
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: any question that his power is gonna play down there
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: in Miami. Uh So it'll be fun to watch. I
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: hope he makes the team out spring.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: Yeah, who's here? Pick to click?
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: Well, I I think you know Joe's the redraft guy today.
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: I'm going with the Dynasty picks today, going deep again,
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: I'm going with Thomas White for the Marlins. He was
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: their thirty fifth overall pick in twenty three, and the
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: competitive balance a rounds there. He is is a big
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: time arm. He was actually the Minor League pitcher of
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: the Year for the Marlins last year. He got all
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: the web to high A as a nineteen year old,
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: so again a younger pitcher here, but he's been a
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: very consistent, nearly thirty percent k rate guy in the miners,
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: keeping the control pretty goshdarn reasonable. He you know, three
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: to four walk for nine, but that's still definitely developing
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: at that age, especially when you're getting to the high
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: A position here, and he roughively throughout his career has
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: kept the ball on the ground. So all those things
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: that I generally look for, you know, ended up across
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: two levels last year, bringing a two eight e ra
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: A across A and high A. So lots of like there,
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: and there's just not a lot in front of him
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: when it comes to the Marlins rotation, Like yeah, we
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: got we talked about Sandy. He's not gonna be there long.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: And so I think White's gonna jump up a list
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: this year and there's gonna be a lot lot of
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: folks that are be clamoring for him to get to
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: get a peek, not in twenty five, but probably early
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: twenty six. So Thomas White going deep for the second
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: time in a row. I'll come back up here. We
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: get some some later picks, but definitely a guy that
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: I've got my eye.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: On, all right.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: The one that I've got for my pick to click
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: here is another kind of like off season free agency
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: NRI guy. And this is Ronnie Simone, second baseman but
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: mostly utility guy who's coming.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: Over from the Rays.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: Where this is another kind of Bendex has got a
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: whole bevy of these guys. Vidal Bruhan, who's there, He
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: already has shipped out of town, Xavier Edwards and now
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Ronnie Simon of like these kind of up the middle
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: utility guys who can really spell anybody in a pinch,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: good on the bass, pass, decent batting average. And that's
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: mostly why I'm going with Simone here, that you can
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: see the path where let's say you know Edwards struggles
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: a little bit, or Auto Lopez doesn't quite bounce back
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: to what he did in twenty twenty four, or there's
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: any injuries. I think Simon's the first guy up to
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: be able to fill that role and like just kind
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: of keep that line going in terms of all these
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: same sort of middle infielders the Marlins seem to be
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: pumping out right now that Simon I think is going
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: to be can be a great kind of salve as
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: a utility player going into twenty twenty five in deep leagues,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: in you know, more dynasty ish situations like if you
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: do need something where you've in a super crazy deep
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: dynasty and just need some depth, he'll work out there,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: and I'll only I think is another spot where I
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: like Simon, but I think there's also some prospect value
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: where if you know he can put together some decent
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: stolen bases in the first half, can accrue some value
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: for you and keep your leagues and be shoppable.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: I think so. Ronnie Simon is my pick here for
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: the Miami Marlins.
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: We're going deep. We're going deep with our prospects right now.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: I mean it is the Miami Marlins. Get it's not
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: exactly named brands here. I think last week I just
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: picked the number one prospect for like all the teams,
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: So we're just covering our bases.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Okay, Well, let's move on to the New York Mets,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: who have had quite the offseason, obviously bringing in Juan
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: Soto coming off of a season in twenty twenty four
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: in which they went to the NLCS powered by Grimace
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: and all sorts of devil magic. I think this team
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: is going to be pretty dangerous getting to twenty twenty five,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: as I don't think they're also done buying, because they
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: do have some holes in the back end of their
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: lineup and the back end of their rotation. But with
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: all those thoughts in mind, Joe, who's your buye here
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: for the New York Mets.
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: I'm going with somebody from the back end of that rotation.
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: My choice is David Peterson. This was my pick too,
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: pick Yes, there we go beautiful. So I think with
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: Peterson over the last couple of years before twenty twenty four,
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: he had shown some incredible flashes intos of strikeouts twenty
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: seven p per twenty six percent. Last year that went
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: all the way down below twenty percent, so you'd probably
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: think he had a horrible time of it, but he didn't.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: He had a two to nine era. The whip was
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: a bit high at one two nine, although it was
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: much lower than he had been, but it was a
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: pretty successful season for him even without those strikeouts. On
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: the surface, when I look at especially things like swinging
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: strike rate, which I really really like to look at,
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: it fell a little bit. It went from twelve point
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: three percent to eleven percent, but that doesn't indicate that
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: his strikeout rate should have dropped by seven points. If
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: you look at the projections, generally they have him gone
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: back to that twenty two percent strikeout rate range, and
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: a lot of them are projecting a sub four era
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: with a whip somewhere in that one to three range.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: You're not gonna love that one to three whip, but
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: you're getting a guy who should be pitching for a
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: good team you can project double digit wins. Was somewhere
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: in the four range, hopefully a little bit lower. And
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: I'm also hoping for those strikeouts to bounce back to
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: where they had been for the majority of his career
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: when you look at the fact that he's not going
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: off the board until pick three seventy one on average.
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: I've been drafting a lot of days with Peterson in
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: the hope that we can get some more strikeouts in
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: twenty twenty five.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think those are a lot of
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: my same thoughts there too. And honestly, he morphed into
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: a much better pitcher down the stretch, you know, in
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: the second half in seventy seven and a third innings
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: he put up in K nine that went over eight.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: The era was two seventy nine supported by a three
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: eighteen fip there and even though you rattled off like
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: the one three whip that the projection's having for it,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: I don't know if that's where he's gonna be. It
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: seemed like last year, you know, he was rounding into
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: a much better pitcher. You have Jose Serians in her
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: field now chucking down balls and I do think that
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: we're looking at somebody who with just a great five
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: pitch mix, has finally harnessed that arsenal. And given the price,
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: I think you're putting him on this roster too. I
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: think Peterson could be a sneaky guy for you know,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: twelve ish wins going into this season, and especially given
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: that price, you can't beat it.
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: One last thing with him is that he threw on
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: the first pitch sixty three point seven percent strikes and
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: the walk rate was below ten percent for the first
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: time in his career. So love those things put together.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you think, brew are you meaning on
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: the David Peterson train.
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I've liked Peterson the past. The problem with Peterson's
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: they just haven't let him run. They haven't give him
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: the chance.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: To do it.
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: And so he's always been that guy that like you
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: pick up off the waiver wire and just like you
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: start him for like a two start week and then
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: they just demote him or send it to the bullpen, or
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: do something funny. You're like, come on, like this. He
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: never seems to blow up on you. He never seems
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: to be that kind of guy that's gonna really cause
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: you problems. He's also not gonna just blow you away,
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: like he is just solid, and that's there is so
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: much value to that. So I think the great picks.
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: I do think you're right the k rate last year
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: is gonna scare some folks away, and you're not really
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: paying much for if that. If that is the case,
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: like that, you're not giving something up here. But there's
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: definitely upside and there's definitely a guy that can handle
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: a big workload, which is very valuable. So I got
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: no calls with you guys here.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Nice who's her buy in the Mets?
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: Well, I thought you guys were gonna go with the
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: same spot I was when you said back into the
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: Mets rotation. But maybe I'm going in the middle. I'm
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: going with the guy going slightly higher in Clay Holmes.
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: And when I first started looking at Holmes, I was like, yeah,
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna be out, like the transition of the reliever
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: to starter, like is it going to work out? And
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: the more I looked at him, like he has a
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: starter profile. He has a good three pitch mix. I
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: wish he had more fastball than just using the sinker,
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: but he has a good three pitch mix. He has
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: good control. He was never the reliever that just like
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: blew you away and had crazy like control issues. And
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: that's why he was successful. Like he was successful because
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: he was reliable and he was able to work around
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: the hits. He was able to take care of things.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: And what just blows me away with Holmes is his
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: ground ball rate is just absolutely unbelievable. It is if
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: you look at if you look at Savant, he has
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: the one hundredth percentile for a ground ball rate. His
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: ground ball rate is mid sixties. Like that's just uncanny.
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: And so what I love about that for a guy
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: at this point, Like, yeah, I think there's some maybe
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: some Indians concerns, like because he's got to get that
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: built up. He is just not gonna law up on you.
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: He's not gonna be Homer prone, even though he does
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: tend to let the ball get in the air a
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: little bit more like from a home run perspective, when
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: it does get in the air, it does tend to
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: be a little bit more risky. But overall, I think
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: the price is right and I'm just shocked that people
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: are not that he is not getting some like helium
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: moving up draft boards after that signing. I expected him
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: to be going higher. So I'm gonna be taking some
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: some flyers with Clay Holmes because I just think the
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: floor is pretty high at this point. The ceiling is
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: not necessarily high either. But it's kind of the same
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: argument with Peterson. I think you end up getting a
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: lot that you like out of it, and he's gonna
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: kind of fly under the radar for a pretty good team.
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I like it. I like it, and yeah, just
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: another good cheap pitcher. Can't beat those. Okay, move on
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: to ourselves here, Joe, who is yourself from the Mets?
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: It's a spicy one, mister Wan Soto, Okay, Okay, So
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: it's more so in the con I don't think he's
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: gonna be bad. It's not like I think Wan Soto
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: is gonna just bought him out and hit seven home
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: runs this year or something. But in the context of
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: you're paying a top five or seven pick for him,
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: there's a lot of data. First year, big brand new contract,
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: a lot of guys. Maybe they take the foot off
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: the gas, maybe there's some other things that go into it,
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: but a lot of the time they have a bit
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: of a disappointing season. We saw it with Lindora New
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: York a couple of years ago, Trey Turner first year
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: in Philly. It is countless examples. It's nothing I can
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: look at really in the profile to say Wan Soto
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: is bad, or Wan Soto is this, Wan Soto is that.
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: But when I'm looking at the rest of the first round, specifically,
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: like the top picks there, I'd rather take Corbyn Carroll,
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: I'd rather take Fernando Tattoos. I'd probably rather take Mookie Betts,
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: not generally a picture in the first round guy. So
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: that's not really the way I would go, But I
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: could see myself going with Scooble over him. I think
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: he's probably he deserves to go in the first round,
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: and there will be people who think, Joe, you're you're
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: absolutely crazy, but I think he's more so like thirteen
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: to fifteen range as opposed to the seven or eight pick.
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: You need to spend on him, which could be argued
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: as semantics. But in the first round, if I get
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: a mid first round pick, I'm not really taking one.
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: I'm not really wanting to take one. Soda. If it's
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: obp that's a different story. But in a standard five
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: by five league. I think Sodo more belongs at the
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: back end of the first round.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: And I don't think it's anything against Sodo. I think
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: it's the key thing here. It's the fact that he
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: doesn't have speed, Like that's the big thing for me
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: in that first round. Like if you leave that first
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: round without speed, I agree with the new the new face,
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: the new team, but I can't leave the first round
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: without speed right now. I just can't see doing that
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: because later you're buying Xavier Edwards and that's not a
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: recipe for success. So I got no qualms with it.
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: I think people get scared when he's like, oh, you're
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: selling the first round. I know I sold one last
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: last week. And it's just like when you're selling the
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: first round or like you are setting the tone for
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: your entire season. You need to be comfortable and confident
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: in that pick.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally.
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: Agree leaving Yankee Stadium as well with that short portion, right,
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: like there are certain things you can point to. Is
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: that they and again like he's not bad. He is.
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: He's still a brilliant, brilliant probably a Hall of Fame
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: baseball player. But like I said, I've done twelve drafts
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: and I haven't taken him even once, so maybe that's
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: just a me thing, but just not in the not
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: in the Wan Soto business this season. Maybe next year
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: if he's a second rounder. But we'll see.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go. Come to cards and categories for
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: hot takes from Joey Rico won Soto. Not bad, bru.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: Who's your cell here on the Mets?
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: Uh?
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: Cool?
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: You already know my my selling the Mets, but it's
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: I thought it was gonna be a spicy cell, but
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: I feel vindicated right now, and so I'm selling Mark Fientto's.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: I look Vento's his ADPs in the in the nineties,
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: and you know, I wrote him up this past weekend
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: as a postential bust. And really where it comes from
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: is he's got one of the highest harmeworm for fly
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: ball rates in the league. Only two guys hiring him
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: are Judge and Otani. And he does have a profile
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: that can do that, don't get me wrong, but there's
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: got to be some regression there. And the other problem
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: with him is, like the blueprint to get rid of
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: Vento's if you're a picture is like clear as day.
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: The stuff that moves horizontally, he can't hit like we're
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: talking like Sarriatto from Major League here, like he does not,
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: Like he's hitting below two hundred on like your sliders,
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: your sweepers, all of that stuff is just something he
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: knows how to handle until he fixes that. Like I'm
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: going up, there's a picture and I'm just throwing your
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: slider after slider slider. He doesn't. He's chasing all of it.
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: He's not doing the right thing with it. And the
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: other problem is, like I look at the draft board
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: around him, and I'm like, do I want that risk
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: with just this really big power upside? Or do I
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: want Junior Camanio, Jordan Westberg? Do Like do I want
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: to go with a Matt McClain, Do I want to
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: go with a Marcus Simeon? Like there's so many other
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: guys around there that I feel so much more confident
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: in that Viento's has a short track record and there's
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: like some clear like if I feel like I can
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: strike Vento's out, that's probably not the kind of guy
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: that I want to draft. He can probably handle the
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: fifty mile hour fastball, but it's it's definitely a guy
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: for me that I am. I'm fading pretty hard, and
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: I know, I know there's a lot of lovers out
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: there for Vento's, but it's it's I just.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: Don't see it. Yeah, I think it's fairy.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: I think he is his prices pushed up by third
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: base being so thin, and then part of it is, Yeah,
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: I am just really scared about like what this adjustment
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: year looks like for Mark Vento's because I think it
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: could be frustrating. And that two sixty six batting average
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: was probably a career high. I just don't see that
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: coming back, Like how was he going in front of
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: Junior Camaniro. But that's what I don't know.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: I don't know if that's gonna happen for too many Moneys.
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: But my devil's advocate argument there would be that cam
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: and Aro hasn't done it yet and Vianto's just hit
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: almost thirty, Like like yep a canon Aro, Like you're
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: hoping camon Arow does this year what Vano's did last year,
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: as much as it might have been a bit of
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: a mirage, Like I think there's bottom out potential with
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: Danto's too, he could hit two twenty. But I also
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: think that the home the power is pretty secure. But
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: just that the swing and miss is just so severe. Yeah.
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: I took him a couple of times in early draft rooms,
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: but inside of the top of a hundred, it is
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: a little bit of a tough choice.
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: Yeah, you just don't feel right, dude, I think, I
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: think is the problem. Like you feel little feel a
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: little gross afterwards.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Yeah, all right myself, this pains me horribly because I
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: love this dude and he drove me to a lot
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: of success last year. My cell is Sean Manaya. I
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: love him, I love the profile, I love what he
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: can offer you. I buy into the projections. The problem
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: is the projections are not what his price is right
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: now in drafts. You know he's going right now around
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: pick one eighty ish. I mean, this is a guy
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: who I was suggesting to pick last year when he
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: was you know, down and pick three hundred. So like
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: that's when I love like being able to get somebody
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: like Manya.
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: But like, given he's coming off of.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: One hundred and eighty one in two thirds innings plus
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: the playoff run, that's a career high.
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: You're also looking at he.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: Found that new arm slot last year, and you know
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: it worked for him. But whenever you're talking new armslots,
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: you're talking more injury risk or already has been injured,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: because like he's finding a lower slot, and so I'm
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: just worried that, like if you're kind of counting on
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: some sourt of stability from Mania the way that you
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: know people are right now in drafts, he's going, you know,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: right next to guys i'd rather take in terms of
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: like zach Eflynn and Seth Lugo, because that is when
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: you want to take that kind of like one hundred
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: and eighty innings stalwart. I'm just not sure that you're
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: barking up the right tree if you're taking Seohn Andya that.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: I love the dude, but this is just way too
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: rich of a price. If he does fall back to
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: where like you can buy him as projections in terms
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: of you know, nine K nine and around like a
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: you know, late or upper threes, right, then I'm back in.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: But this is just too rich of a price. As
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: people kind of have really honed in on seeing what
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Manya did last year and thinking that he can just
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: copy and paste it.
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: I completely agree. I think he got very lucky the babbit,
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: being that love was probably not going to happen again
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: in the two forty five range. His babbob is usually
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: fairly controlled, but that was an outlier, stranding even seventy
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: five percent of base runners. He hasn't been able to
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: do that the last couple of seasons. I think it
- 1:27:45Speaker 4: was a bit of an outlier. I've dated my starting
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: pitcher rankings before we started going tonight, and he's at
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: seventy five for me, So yeah, he's I'm not landing
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: him anywhere.
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: Yep, I totally agree.
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: Okay, let's get on to our prospect picks to click, Joe,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: who is your pick here?
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: I am going with little Akunya, with Luis Anhelunya here.
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: He's not getting a lot of buzz in drafts, which
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: I understand, but I also don't like. We're not one
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: hundred percent sure where he is going to play at
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: this point in time. But as Jeff McNeil at this
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: point still going to be an everyday player, that's kind
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: of what I'm thinking. Maybe McNeil gets moved out, maybe
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: they put Akunya in there at second base, or do
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: a little bit of shuffling around the infield. He only
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: had fourteen games last season, and it's hard to really
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: draw much from fourteen game sample size, but he had
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: three home runs, headed three oh eight one to sixty
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: six WRC, plus he was barreling the ball up at
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: a nine percent rate. He is an Akunya, so he
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: comes by it honestly, and I think that honestly. If
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: you're looking at the draft price this season, I get it.
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: But the potential there when you're talking about pick four hundred,
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: roughly pick four hundred three to ninety seven with a
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: range of three sixteen to four thirty seven, that's where
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: I'll take a shot on a player with this kind
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: of pedigree, with these kinds of tools, who has a
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: like incredible speed. He stole fifty seven bases in the
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: minors in twenty twenty three. This guy has decent power.
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: I think he can hit for an OK batting average.
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: Like there's a lot there to really like, and I
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: think that the talent will probably win out even if
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: it doesn't come to the second half of the season.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is a great pick.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: You look at what's in front of him. You mentioned
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: Jeff McNeil, but he also complained in the outfields he
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: could potentially play third base. So it's like Jose Siri
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: Brett Benbi like, there's not it's there's multiple spots and
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: opportunity there. And you're right, I think it's the speed
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: here that's you know something, Come I am, I'm just
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: I'm actually very surprised he's not going higher because of
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: simply the name. Maybe maybe it's like the injury bug
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: is rubbing off or something. I don't know, but it's
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: it's it is surprising. So I like this pick.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: Yeah, And unlike Xavier Edwards, non zero power, like I
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: think Acuno can hit not you know, eight to ten
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: homers every year to add to those bags where he
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: he's detrimental, but he's not absolutely killing you in that category.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: Crew, who's your pick to click on the Mets?
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: Well, I've been I've been going on now on the
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: pitching ground, and I'm gonna keep going with all my
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: prospects here, and I'm gonna go with a much high,
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: much higher, much more known pitcher in Brandon Sprout. Sprout's
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: the the the the best pitching prospect in that Mets
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: system in my opinion, And you know, I think he's
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: a guy that I would not be shocked to see
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: fifteen starts out of this year. Just looking at that
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: Mets rotation like they're they've got plenty of pictures, but like,
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: there's not a single guy that doesn't have a question mark,
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: even Clay Holmes, who I just espouse, David Peterson, who
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: you guys espoused, Like, there are still questions with almost
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: every single one of those guys. And so you know, Sprout,
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: he's he's going into his twenty four year old season,
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: so you know, there's nothing.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: Else to prove.
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: He spent the majority of time at Double A and
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: Triple A last year. He did struggle a little bit
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: at Triple A, but you know, he's he's a guy
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: that definitely is a swing and miss kind of guy.
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: He can pill put over one hundred mile an hour
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: and he generally has some control over it. It's not
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: perfect by any means, but he definitely has hit and
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: missed kind of stuff. So if he gets fifteen twenty
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: starts in a strong lineup, I wouldn't be surprised if
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: He's kind of a guy that you know, ends up
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: being mid rotation material and he just kind of learned
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: on the job. So I think Sprout's a great dart
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: throw late and late in the rounds because he's not
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: gonna have a spot coming out of the spring, but
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: one or two injuries that that's rotation or somebody like
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: a you know, a Manaia just kind of needing a break,
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: not doing what he needs to do. I think Sprouts
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: can get a few spot starts and take advantage of it.
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: So yep, he's he's my guy going forward, and I
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: think he's gonna click, and I think he's gonna be
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: a stalwart in that rotation long term.
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: This rotation has a potential to be pretty ugly this
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: season if things don't work out, like he might make
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: twenty five starts. I mean when you're looking at Manaya,
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: you're looking at Manaia as your projected ace. That's a
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: tough one. That's a tough one.
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: Yeah, there's like every single guy in this rotation has
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: like a twenty five to fifty chance of getting injured.
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: And so that what let's do the math here, means
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: two and fifty percent chance that somebody gets injured in
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: that five man like and you're you know, six guys,
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: Paul Blackburn like, it's there's just not much standing in
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: his way. So I'm excited about.
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: Him total post.
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean a lot of what you just said.
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: I think you can put on the dude that I'm
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: going to pick here, I'm picking the other prospect arm
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: Jonah Toong that you know, if you're in a league
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: where uh Brandon Sprote is maybe already owned because he's
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: the number one Mets prospect, I think you can go
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: a little bit down that list pick up Jonah Tong
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: who got up to double A last year. And I
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: think Joe you highlighted this. This is not a great
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: rotation and Eveven if they you know, I think part
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: of the reason maybe they're not spending on it is
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: because they know that they've got these guys coming through
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: the miners, and I think that the Mets are in
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: process of kind of trying to build a Dodgers like
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: pitching factory and keep up with them. And so you know,
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: not only do you have Tyler McGill down there projected
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: open the miners, but you got sprot you got Tidwell,
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: and then I think Tong can make the jump this year,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: especially as the Mets want to be competitive, They're gonna
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: throw everything they can at this and really use every
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: bullet that they can in the bullpen. Tong, like I said,
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: he's a couple of rungs down from sprote, but came
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: off a great year in which he threw a three
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: or three erra across one hundred and thirteen innings with
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: double A and high A. So that is really like
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: the factors. You know, he hasn't gotten a big taste
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: of the upper majors, but or the upper miners. But
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: this is a guy who all of the prospect reports
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: are pretty glowing on the fastball, slider, curveball, change up
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: combo and then even like the command grade is a
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: little low, but I mean he was able to keep
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: the walk rate just around ten percent last year in
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: the miners. You know, if he can shave that down
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: or even keep it at ten percent, I think he
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: can still you know, be able to manage in the majors.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: So h to Jonah Toong here is my pick.
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: All the same reasons, right, It's that that rotation is scary.
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: I think Tong has a lot uh is a little
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: bit riskier profile, but also has probably actually has a
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: little bit more upside if you want to really project,
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: then even Sprout does. But like at wider variational potential outcomes.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Well, let's move on to the Philadelphia Phillies, who won
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: this division last year and are pretty much just running
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: it back from a team perspective.
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: Plus Jesus So they added.
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: Hazyus Losardo in the off season here and otherwise it's
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: pretty similar up and down.
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: You know, they continue to.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: Build out some of their platoons, with Max Kepler joining
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: up with this team and Jordan Romano our buddy, your buddy,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: Joe Rico from the North coming down to close here
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: for the Philadelphia Phillies is what it's looking like.
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: But I think they're going to be right in the mix.
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: Again for this division and should be slated at least
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: for a playoff spot, because this is quite the super
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: team going forward in Philadelphia. All those caveats, all that
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: set up, Joe, who is your bye on the Phillies.
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: First off, I'll say it's kind of funny that Toronto
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: and Philadelphia kind of essentially traded injured relievers because Toronto
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: didn't want Romano because he was hurt, Philadelphia didn't want
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: Hoffman because he was hurt, and then he failed a
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: couple of other physicals and both teams just said, all right, sure,
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: let's make the swap, So I don't know how much
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: I trust either of them, probably but as far as
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: I could throw them. But getting back to my by
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: choice here, it's going to be JT. Real Mudo, and
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: I think a lot of people at this point just
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: assume he's cooked, and there's a chance heading into his
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: age thirty four season, before he steps on a major
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: league diamond in a regular season game again, he'll be
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: thirty four. And I think if you look at the
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: stolen bases, you look at the fact that he missed
- 1:35:50Speaker 4: time last year, you could look at that profile and say, yeah,
- 1:35:54Speaker 4: I want to kind of avoid JT. Real Mudo, But
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: the underlying data was still very good. Ten percent barrel rate,
- 1:36:00Speaker 4: forty six percent hard hit rate. You might say, yeah,
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: he's still two bases in ninety nine games, so that
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: part of his game is probably gone, and there's a
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: chance that he just doesn't steal as much to try
- 1:36:09Speaker 4: and maintain his health as he gets older. But he
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: stolls a seventy ninth percentile sprint speed. That's pretty incredible
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: for anybody, but for a catcher heading into his age
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: thirty four season, that's very very good. So I do
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: buy the projection. Saying that he can get back into
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: the seven to nine or ten steel range. He is
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: a batting average asset, especially compared to the rest of
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: the catcher field. He's in a great lineup, and I've
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: heard some people say that, well, he's gonna lose playing time,
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: They're not gonna play him as much. Garrett Stubbs might
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: get the odd game here and there, but who's kidding who?
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: Garrett Stubbs had a sixty three WRC plus last year.
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: He's not taken over a JT. Real Mudo's job. So
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: I think the playing time is secure, the lineup is secure,
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: and I think the performance is that of a top
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: ten catcher who is not currently being drafted as a
- 1:36:50Speaker 4: top ten catcher. If you're looking just by ADP, he's
- 1:36:52Speaker 4: going actually, no, I misspoke. He is actually the tenth
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: catcher by ADP. But I think that he should be
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: probably in that seven or eight range, and I'm going
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: to be probably reaching a round or so to get
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: him in the upcoming two catcher drafts in particular.
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I like it that, Like I think, you know,
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: it was also an injury riddled season for him, that
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: you know, if he gets better health, I think he
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: can get back to that upper echelon of catchers.
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: If you just simply look at the twenty twenty one
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: through twenty twenty three versions of Real Mouso and then
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: look at twenty twenty four like this, if you just
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: project the games that he missed for another thirty forty games,
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: it's the exact same stelete, like nothing, nothing really changed.
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: And yeah, he's being drafted probably probably arguably five spots
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: lower than he had been. He may have been too
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: high previously, but yeah, I have no qualms that you
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: look at it and go. I actually had him and
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: tried to trade in this offseason a dynasty league, and
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: nobody had any interest in the guy like I could.
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: I couldn't pawn him off for free. But I think
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: he's he's going to be a cheap catcher, which is
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: very odd.
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, who's here?
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: Bye here brew Well, Joe did a great job of
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: the intro for this one, And I'm going to do
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: my buy and self at the same time, because if
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: I do my buy, you know who my cell is.
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: And I'm buying Oryan kirkeran uh for for the Phillies here.
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: He is the best arm in that bullpen. There is
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: no if answer butts about it. He just absolutely lights
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: lights things up. He is in the top twentieth percentile
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: in pretty much every stat rate from a pitching perspective,
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: and he has had no problem. You know, he came
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: up a few years ago, like in the playoff time
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: for him just like everybody, Oh, this is the future,
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: future closer and he he is, He still is. He
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: had a two twenty nine ERA last year, struck out
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: seventy four guys in sixty three innings. And you know,
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: the for anybody listening that wants to know the comp
- 1:38:48Speaker 3: that excites excites everybody. One of the most similar pictures
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: to Kirkering over on Savant is Paul Skins. So Paul
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: Skans in the bullpen, let's let's run it back. Let's
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: ignore the comp for Gregory Sota right next to it.
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: This little bias here, But I think he can absolutely run.
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: And I just don't think Jordan Romano is going to
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: be healthy. Like I just like it's been like a
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: year and a half now that like we don't know
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: if he can walk type of thing. So I just
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: don't believe. I think Romano has the job to start
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: because they brought him in, but I think Kirk Koreen
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: ends up with more than half of the saves on this.
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: Team this season.
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: Totally fair. I'm really confusing the whole Romano saga. Like
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: you figure Toronto. He's from Toronto too, He's from just
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: a suburb just north of Toronto. You'd figure they'd want
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: to keep him around, like he's the hometown boy. They
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: have this whole closer entrance, the way that every team
- 1:39:41Speaker 4: has a closer entrance. Now if they let him go,
- 1:39:45Speaker 4: my initial thought process, so there must be something really
- 1:39:47Speaker 4: wrong with him, and then a more intelligent organization offers
- 1:39:50Speaker 4: him the same amount of money Toronto would have had
- 1:39:52Speaker 4: to offer him. So I don't know what to make
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: of it. I really don't, but I'm leaning towards investing
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: in Kirkering as a little bit of a later option,
- 1:40:00Speaker 4: maybe even Jose Alvarado if he's cheap enough, just because
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: I don't trust Romano.
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think you hit the name on the head,
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: like when we talked about selling Romano. It is like
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: when you look at that team that actually says like
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: I have zero interest in you and I don't even
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: want to try to trade you like that that is scary.
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: They just they literally just let him walk and so
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: clearly they have zero excitement. And then they signed Jeff Hoffman, Like,
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: so what do they know that nobody else does, or
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: maybe just that Philadelphia doesn't.
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: So I'm Toronto just knows nothing.
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: That's very very true, very very true. Alright, Cooly, what
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: about you.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: I can't believe I'm doing this because I've never been
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: in on this guy, but like when I saw him
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: where he's going in drafts, it's just perplexing how late
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: he's going this year.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: It's Aaron Nola. I've never been in on Aaron.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: Nola because it's usually like a volume based one hundred
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: and ninety innings of like a nine k per nine.
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: The ra came back last year to where it should be.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: I mean that twenty twenty three is just kind of
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: like a blip when you look at everything that kind
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: of happened, and the left on base percentage was awful.
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: I think that Phillies defense really failed him in twenty
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: twenty three, but they shorted.
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: Up a little bit better last year.
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: The babbit actually went up, but you know, the left
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: on base percentage got back to a little bit more
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: of like an Aaron Nola level allowed him to put
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: up that three to fifty seven era just an our
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: player raider projecting going forward for twenty twenty five, he's
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: the fifty seventh player, and in drafts right now he's
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: going as like the eighty fourth player off the board.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: So there's a huge gap in terms of just like
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: straight dollars. That like is really perplexing for somebody like
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: Aaron Nolan. I think it is that a combination of
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: people who had maybe owned him and finally bought in
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: on that twenty twenty three season bad taste in their
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: mouth have kind of settled into Nola being what he
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: is and not having anything extra. But given especially the
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: state of pitching nowadays in terms of you just coming
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: up with the nine pitchers to get into a standard
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: rod starting spot like is really tough. And if you
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: can pencil somebody in every week, like Aaron Nola on
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: a good team who should give you mid teens wins,
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: this is maybe the first year I'm going to end
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: up with any Aaron Nola shares kind of like on
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: my teams where I'm gonna actually like he's going to
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: fall far enough where he also gives you enough volume
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: where you can kind of count on him as a
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: number one if you need him to be, buy him
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: as like a number two, but you can maybe slate
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: him in as you're number one going forward, because there
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: just aren't very many pictures out there doing this level
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: of volume. The way Eron Nola has been, I.
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: Don't know what to make of him. There's the stupid
- 1:42:51Speaker 4: funny argument of every other year Aaron Nola looks good
- 1:42:54Speaker 4: and then he looks terrible, the odds and the even years,
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: and we're heading up into an odd year which is
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: historically not been good for him, And I know that's
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: that's rubbish, but at the same time, it's what he's
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: done every year going back to twenty eighteen. He's kind
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: of alternated these good and bad years. Now To get
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: to something a little more analytical, the strikeout, right, if
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: you go back every year from twenty twenty, it's fallen
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: every single year now, not drastically, but just from thirty
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: three to thirty to twenty nine, to twenty five and
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: a half to twenty four. So I wonder if he
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: can still be counted on as an above average source
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: of strikeouts, or if we're going to see him take
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: another dip. But concerning the team context and the volume
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: he provides, I agree that considering the price has fallen
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: this year, this is the time to kind of jump
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: in with him.
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: I think it's very dependent on the format, because you
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: have the point about the strikeouts. The thing he does
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: do is he pitches a lot of innings. You know,
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: he's you can look back and basically every year he's
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: two hundred strikeouts and you can just take into the bank.
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: And so if you're in some of those leagues that
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: you are trying to get like there's not innings caps
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: and you're just trying to get volume through, especially like
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: maybe a set of weekly lineup type league, this is
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: really a great profile to have in there because you
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: just know you're gonna get six, seven, maybe eight Indians
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: every single time he goes out there. And so even
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: if the strikeouts aren't top tier, he gets you the
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: same number of strikeouts and he going to go deep
- 1:44:12Speaker 3: and get wins things like that. So I'm very interested
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: in those types of formats, maybe a little less so
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: in some of the formats where you have caps or
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: things like that. So it's interesting to talk about Aaron
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: Nola at this kind of point. So I'm glad Mike
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: that you're finally buying him and we'll go to bat
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: the next auction.
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: Yes, we really will see you there. Okay, Joe, who
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: is your cell on the Phillies?
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: So I had listed too because I had a feeling
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: that one of them was going to be taken, and
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: he was, but was Jordan Ramana was listed as one
- 1:44:43Speaker 4: of them. So I'm going to go to my alternate option,
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: which is not going to be popular. But I am
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: more on the fade side with Zach Wheeler, especially considering
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: his price at this point. Top twenty pick for a
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: guy heading into his age thirty five season who has
- 1:44:57Speaker 4: been a little bit charmed in terms of the injury
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: luck to this point. You know, two hundred hundred ninety
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: two hundred and fifty three, two thirteen one to ninety five,
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: he's kind of been able to dodge those bullets when
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: a lot of pictures around him generally haven't been. And
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: I think, considering the advanced age combined with the advanced
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: price this year, like he is the fourth pitcher off
- 1:45:17Speaker 4: the board and number one, I mean it's Otani, so
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: technically he's the third pitcher off the board. I just
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: don't want to take a picture in the second round.
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: And if I am going to take a picture in
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: the second round, it's probably gonna be somebody young and
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: on the upturn, like a Garrett Crochet. Maybe, you know,
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: maybe I take a chance on Logan Gilbert, but I
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: just can't can't see myself spending a second round pick
- 1:45:37Speaker 4: on a thirty five year old who it's gonna say
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: it sound kind of stupid, and maybe it is, but
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: he's kind of due for an injury. The way the
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: pitchers get hurt, you can't stay healthy forever, especially as
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: you continue to get older. So I think at this
- 1:45:49Speaker 4: point he probably is my fade.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is totally fair.
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: You're never gonna come on a rasball podcast and try
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: to convince the host to spend a first or second
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: round pick on a pitcher. So you have found your brethren.
- 1:46:05Speaker 4: One thing I will stay to kind of hijack and
- 1:46:07Speaker 4: I don't mean to do this, but it's breaking news
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: right here we're talking about the National League East, is
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: that Pete Alonzo has just agreed to go back to
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: the New York Mets.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: Wow, fantastic that, Uh, I don't know if that really
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: changes the outlook for it, but like.
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: I'm still so still in Biento's.
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: Even harder.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: Maybe right, passing bomb live on the air, that's amazing. Yeah,
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: we haven't had one of those in a while, appreciated Joe.
- 1:46:32Speaker 3: Yeah, usually on this podcast, we just cursed guys get injured.
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: So this is this is good news or maybe really
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: really bad news.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: So all right, mysel here is the new shiny toy
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: that they brought into Philadelphia. It's Hazus Lizardo. Just because
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: I've never really been a Lizardo fan, and now that
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: you're taking them out of a good ballpark situation, I
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: think this is going to really unravel really quickly. It's
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: already being picked up within the Zips and the bat projections.
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: Who I mean, the zips is the worst on him,
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: with a four to three six ERA over one hundred
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: and nine and a third innings. The Bats got him
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: at a four two seven rat at one hundred and
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: forty innings. I think that's what you're looking at here
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: for Hazus Lozardo is just a really rough ra correction
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: coming because, like I said, the home park has done
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: a lot of work for him between being in Oakland
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: and then going in Miami, career home road splits. His
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: home splits because he was at Oakland in Miami three
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: ninety six ERA, over three hundred innings on the road
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: four seventy five ERA and two hundred and twelve innings.
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: You're putting him in Philadelphia, which is a great hitters park.
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: I think that there he's going to run into lots
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: of lineups that are just going to load up right
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: handed bats against him and te off. So you kind
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: of I haven't even talked about the injury risk with
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: Lizardo between the back, the shoulder, forearm, the elbow, everything
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: in the canneg chain has been busted on Lazardo over
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: the years, and it's just it feels like a landmind
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: as he's sitting there in the drafts that I don't
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: think he gives you volume. I don't think the volume
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: he's going to give you is even something you want
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: this year, as that ERA should go well north to
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: the four.
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: I think, yeah, I'm not gonna argue with you. I
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: absolutely love the skills of Lozardo, but that's where it stops.
- 1:48:22Speaker 3: That's the problem. Like I'm still looking at Lozardo from
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: like five years ago with athletics and being like, man,
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: I want that, and then it's just literally, I don't
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: know if he has two arms anymore at this point.
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: So I think it's an easy cell. But I think
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: it's also easy to dream, and I think that's why
- 1:48:38Speaker 3: people keep buying them.
- 1:48:40Speaker 4: That twenty twenty two season was magic, Like just the
- 1:48:43Speaker 4: numbers across the board thirty percent, strikeout right, one oh four,
- 1:48:46Speaker 4: whip three thirty two era. I don't know if we're
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: ever getting that again. I unfortunately have to disagree here.
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: I used to love Hajes Azardo. I thought he was
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: that was the next big thing, but I don't think
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: so anymore.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's move on to our prospect picks to click. So, Joe,
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: who's yours for the Philadelphi Phillies.
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: Well, I'm not going for the top ranked prospect in
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: the system here. So for those thinking, oh, it's Joe,
- 1:49:10Speaker 4: he's going to go Andrew Payner here, he's taken all
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: the low hanging fruit. No, I'm going to go Justin Crawford.
- 1:49:14Speaker 4: And it's not just because his father was one of
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: my favorite players to watch growing up. I adored Carl Crawford,
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: but Justin Crawford here, and it's interesting he hasn't been
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: drafted over the last month, even as deep as the
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: Draft Champions on NFBC, not inside the top seven hundred
- 1:49:29Speaker 4: and fifty picks. Maybe he shouldn't be, but what he
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: did last year mostly it was split between High A
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: and Double A, but all told, one hundred and ten games,
- 1:49:38Speaker 4: nine homers, forty two steals in a three thirteen batting
- 1:49:41Speaker 4: average one hundred and thirty on the WRC plus. He
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: doesn't walk a ton six and a half percent, but
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: he doesn't strike out a lot either. That's typically been
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: below twenty percent that strikeout rate. He's still very young.
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: He has a non roster invite to spring training, so
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: it's not crazy to think maybe he could sneak his
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: way into the back end of the bench, although I
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: think it's probably unlikely. This is more one for the future.
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: I think if we're looking at twenty twenty six drafts
- 1:50:04Speaker 4: for E draft, or if you're looking at dynasty buys,
- 1:50:06Speaker 4: I think the Crawford is somebody who could potentially be
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: a legit major league player. I think his defense is
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: projected to be fairly solid as well, so probably not
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: this year. Except for maybe down the stretch. But I
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: think twenty twenty six, Justin Crawford is somebody that I'm
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: really going to be interested in.
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm torn on him because the ground ball rate
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: is so insane that but I do think, like the
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: way that MLB is starting to emphasize balls and play,
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: he's going to be the type of player who really
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: kind of tests to see, like if we can get
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: back to that ad style of baseball, and like if
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: the rules keep shifting towards increasing balls and play like
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: creating hits, I think Crawford becomes more and more valuable.
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: So it is interesting to see kind of how he
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: develops with the league around him, because if he can stick,
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: it is another non zero power situation where it's projected
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: for two homers like Xavier Edwards, and the homers can
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: be or the sole and bases can be like otherworldly
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: here that I know he hasn't quite done that in
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: the minor leagues, but I think he's got the wherewithal
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: to like really push it to like fifty sixty stolen
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: bases in a peak year. So I think this is
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: this is a solid pick because this is also like
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: a make or break year for Crawford. I think that, like,
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: if you are in a dynasty keeper situation, picking him
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: up now to see what he turns into is could
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: really pay off for you. I think down the road,
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: if he kind of hits that next level and finds
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: his stroke and gets closer to the major leagues, brew,
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: who is your pick to click?
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: Yeah, so I am going a little bit higher. I
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: thought Joe's just gonna steal with me, so I'm not
- 1:51:49Speaker 3: taking the number one prospect. I thought he was gonna
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: go with the number two, which is where I'm going
- 1:51:52Speaker 3: with Aiden Miller. Yeah, twenty year old shortstop for Philly
- 1:51:57Speaker 3: Issues for their first round draft pick in twenty three.
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: Guy posted a one thirty three WRC plus across the
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: miners last year. He went all the way from single
- 1:52:08Speaker 3: A to double A. And he's the kind of guy
- 1:52:10Speaker 3: that just fills the statutes across the board, and he
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: also is very patient hitter, kind of the things you
- 1:52:16Speaker 3: look for. So he ended up with eleven homers twenty
- 1:52:18Speaker 3: three steals last year, walked twelve percent of the time
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: struck out low twenties, and that's just a very very
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: solid profile for a twenty year old. That's still kind
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: of learned the ropes, and he's also going to be
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: a pretty solid overall defender. So I really like what
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: he's done, and he is up there on overall ranks,
- 1:52:38Speaker 3: and he's starting to get into the top twenty thirty
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: prospect list, but I don't still hear him talked about
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: that much, and so I think he's going to be
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: a guy that once Painter gets out of that system
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: and he's you know, a lot of prospect ranks, He's
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: all of a sudden, Miller's gonna be talked about left
- 1:52:51Speaker 3: and right all the time. So maybe maybe I'm just
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: not listening to the right podcast or something like that,
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: but I just don't hear Miller's name enough. So I'm
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: excited about him. I think he can do a lot
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: of damage and he's gonna be a stalwart for that
- 1:53:04Speaker 3: team for a handful of years coming up here.
- 1:53:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I like it.
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: All right, Well, we're gonna go pretty chalky here on
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: the Phillies prospects because I'm taking number three Moist's chasse.
- 1:53:16Speaker 2: He came over in the trade.
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: For Greg Risoto from Baltimore last year, and the biggest
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: reason here is that, I mean, you could see it's.
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: Kind of classically in the vein of the other guys.
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: I've been picking big loud stuff, huge, huge fastball. The
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: thing with the Orioles though, is that the control was
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: there was no semblance of control in his profile. The
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: walks per nine were you know, five or six. Seven
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: comes over, the Phillies immediately cuts it into the threes.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: So I think the Phillies found something with Chasse right
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: off the bat, and this is gonna look like a
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: really bad trade in the end for the Orioles because
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: they desperately need an arm like Chasse, because I think
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: there is like really upside, like huge upside in terms
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: of like being a front of a rotation piece for Chasse,
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: and then the downside is he just slots in it
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: as a great closer because of that great fastball. I
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: think that he's got a couple of pass to playing
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: time in Philadelphia in twenty twenty five and then to
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: the future. I think really like the world's his oyster.
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: This is a guy with just really great stuff. I
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: think he's really gonna pop and is still maybe floating
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: just off of some radars in some of the dynasty
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: and keeper leagues out there.
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: You're definitely going with the high strikeout, high high risk
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: guys today.
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:54:40Speaker 3: I love there's you got the guys that could be
- 1:54:43Speaker 3: dominant closers if they could just figure out how to
- 1:54:46Speaker 3: keep it over the plate.
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: Oh, just wait till we get to our next team,
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: the Washington Nationals, who last year finished second to last
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: year in the division, but up and coming team, lots
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: of interesting players. I think this is also a team
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: where not only are they up and coming, but they
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: play their youngsters, so that makes it a fascinating spot
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: for buys and prospect picks to click here. I think
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: in the Washington Nationals, I'm gonna be interesting to see
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: if maybe they can push a little bit for a
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: wild card. You know, things come together, you see some
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: good seasons out of Dylan Cruz and James wood c
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: j Abrams, bab pounces back. I don't think it's out
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: of the run of possibilities that the Nationals can make
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: that type of run coming off of a seventy one
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: win season last year.
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: But Joe, who is your buye on the Nets?
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: I agree that by the way, that they could potentially,
- 1:55:39Speaker 4: if things break right for them, make a push for
- 1:55:41Speaker 4: a last wild card spot in eighty seven win team
- 1:55:43Speaker 4: or something like that. I'm a little bit biased with
- 1:55:45Speaker 4: this guy because he's a friend. He's a friend of
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: Fantasy pros. We love him. DJ Hurts. DJ Hurts broke
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: onto the scene last year and was fantastic. I know
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: some people will look at the four sixteen era and
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: be like, Okay, he was whatever three twenty six expected
- 1:55:59Speaker 4: era three seventy one FIP and his Sierra, which is
- 1:56:02Speaker 4: my personal favorite of the era estimators, was at three
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: seventy seven. He struck out twenty seven point seven percent
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: of batters in his first run against major league hitters,
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: which is which is no small feet. And he's a
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: guy who had generally had a bit of a command issue,
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: more than a bit of a command issue throughout the miners.
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: Sometimes we're looking at fourteen sixteen, sometimes even in small
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: sample sizes, as high as a twenty percent walk rate,
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: but he had it below ten percent, and it wasn't
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: such a small sample. It was nineteen starts, eighty eight innings,
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: pitched the swinging strike rate, backs out the strikeouts that
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: he's going to give you, So probably somewhere in that
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: twenty five to twenty seven percent range, as long as
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: he's able to maintain the command we saw last year.
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: If we see that walk rate jump up to thirteen
- 1:56:41Speaker 4: fifteen percent again, then he's an easy drop. But if
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: he's able to keep that below ten percent and do
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: essentially the same thing he did last year, I see
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: him as a late target who can be your seventh
- 1:56:51Speaker 4: or eighth starting pitcher. He's not going until pick three
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: point fifteen on average, and somebody who could I think
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: very easily return like a three seventy five type of
- 1:57:00Speaker 4: era if things really break right with a hell of
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: a lot of strikeouts. So DJ Hurts is my pick here.
- 1:57:04Speaker 4: I am a little bias because I love the guy,
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: but that's who I'm going with.
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: No, I love this, This is a great pick.
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: I love streaming him last year, and I think he's
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: one of your last choices on the draft board if
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: you want somebody who can get double digit k nines rates,
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: So especially if you're in like a CA nine league,
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: DJ Hurris has to be one of your last picks.
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: I think for a picture, just given what he can
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: provide for you. Brew who is hereby here on the Nats.
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: Yeah, So it's it's always fun when there's just not
- 1:57:36Speaker 3: that much to choose from.
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: Uh are pretty fair.
- 1:57:41Speaker 3: They are. So I'm I'm gonna go a little bit
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: deeper on this one, and I'm going with Jose Tina
- 1:57:48Speaker 3: Mine too. The third baseman. I think he is slotted
- 1:57:52Speaker 3: in to be the starting third baseman for the for
- 1:57:55Speaker 3: the Nats this year. He has sneaky good power and
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: sneaky like this is a guy that has been able to,
- 1:58:04Speaker 3: you know, one hundred games last year and the Miners,
- 1:58:06Speaker 3: he had eighteen homers. He came up and there's would
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: end up being in part of the trade there and
- 1:58:14Speaker 3: with Layne Thomas, and he still he swatted three homers
- 1:58:18Speaker 3: across forty four games, so he did, you know, just
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: light things on fire. But he's still six bases, only
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: got caught once. And so he's been one of those
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: guys that throughout the Miners has been kind of a
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: if you round it up, probably a twenty five twenty
- 1:58:29Speaker 3: five type of guy, hitting for actually pretty reasonable averages.
- 1:58:34Speaker 3: And then if you look at the projections, like they're
- 1:58:36Speaker 3: all way under what that would be, and they're still
- 1:58:39Speaker 3: giving him like one hundred games, and they're saying he's
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: gonna be like less than a ten to ten guy
- 1:58:43Speaker 3: hitting like two forty. Like, I see nothing in this
- 1:58:45Speaker 3: profile that says that he you know he Besides, he
- 1:58:48Speaker 3: doesn't walk, So if we're obp leagues, not not your guy.
- 1:58:52Speaker 3: But he has decent plate approach, he's relatively you know,
- 1:58:56Speaker 3: he's not striking out thirty five percent of the time.
- 1:58:59Speaker 3: He's you know, in the mid twenty and he's gonna
- 1:59:01Speaker 3: fill your stat sheet overall. He just doesn't have the
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: sexy name. He just doesn't pop up on a lot
- 1:59:06Speaker 3: of reports things like that. But if he has everyday
- 1:59:08Speaker 3: playing time, why why not when you can get a
- 1:59:11Speaker 3: guy that can do that across the Diamonds. So coolly,
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: what did I miss? Because you also have the same buy.
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think you hit a lot of
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: it that. It's also just like he hits the ball
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: pretty hard for a twenty three year old that has
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: had this profile in coming across the Cleveland system. Should
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: pick up probably second and third base and maybe could
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: spell Abrams at short. So like, if he can pick
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: up all three eligibilities, that's huge. DVR turned me on
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: too him after our podcast that we recorded a few
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: weeks ago, just because of a lot of what you
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: were saying in the profile that it's almost like really
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: hard to see how Tana doesn't like go to sixty
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: fifteen to fifteen, and given how cheap he is in drafts,
- 1:59:54Speaker 1: like it's all kind of upside from there on top
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: of it all, Like you can almost see that easy
- 1:59:59Speaker 1: tweak in his profile because like his contact rates are
- 2:00:03Speaker 1: pretty solid, and like I think he's really great at.
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: Putting the bat on the ball.
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: It's just kind of taking it to the next level
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: and teaching him some sort of selectivity that if he can,
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: you know, he has run double digit walk rates in
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: the minors before that. It's not like a jan kil
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: Fernandez situation here where he is swinging and everything that
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: he has shown patients before. So if they can kind
- 2:00:26Speaker 1: of hammer that home in Washington to be able to
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: kind of round him into the next level, you're looking
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: at somebody who could really break out really big in
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: Jose Tana.
- 2:00:39Speaker 3: Leave it to us degree on our buy for a
- 2:00:42Speaker 3: guy going with ADP of five hundred.
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: It was, Yeah, I'm impressed by some of these kind
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: of double dips that we've been doing. All right, let's
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: move on to ourselves. Joe, who's yourself for Washington.
- 2:00:56Speaker 4: It is going to be C. J. Abrams remains very lofty.
- 2:01:03Speaker 4: So adp over the last month generally is about fifty.
- 2:01:06Speaker 4: Sometimes he even pushes up into the thirties. Sometimes he
- 2:01:09Speaker 4: falls to the sixties. I don't understand any anywhere in
- 2:01:13Speaker 4: that range really, So that's kind of where he was
- 2:01:15Speaker 4: going last year generally speaking. And he disappointed. And not
- 2:01:20Speaker 4: only did he disappoint, so we'll break down how he did.
- 2:01:22Speaker 4: So the stolen bases fell from forty seven to thirty one,
- 2:01:25Speaker 4: runs went down from eighty three to seventy nine. RBI
- 2:01:28Speaker 4: home runs stayed about the same. Batting average state about
- 2:01:30Speaker 4: the same. But we also got this five alarm knucklehead
- 2:01:35Speaker 4: fire that he's staying out all night at the casino,
- 2:01:38Speaker 4: and I don't know if that's something he's going to outgrow.
- 2:01:40Speaker 4: Probably it is. Probably there was something going whatever, But
- 2:01:43Speaker 4: do I really want to invest in a guy where
- 2:01:45Speaker 4: not only did he fail to take that next step forward,
- 2:01:48Speaker 4: but now I also have to worry about if there's
- 2:01:49Speaker 4: character problems, if there's going to be potentially because I'll say,
- 2:01:52Speaker 4: what happened in a year ago is Luis Garcia got
- 2:01:55Speaker 4: sent down by the Nationals, Abrams got benched. So these
- 2:01:58Speaker 4: players who look like cornerstone to their future, they're not
- 2:02:01Speaker 4: afraid to take drastic punitive measures with them. So if
- 2:02:04Speaker 4: Abrams is fooling around or whatever, there's a chance, first
- 2:02:08Speaker 4: of all, that he loses playing time. But also I
- 2:02:09Speaker 4: don't think that what he gives you is really necessarily
- 2:02:13Speaker 4: a third or a fourth round pick fewer than twenty homers.
- 2:02:16Speaker 4: The lineup is improving, but I'm not really thinking he's
- 2:02:19Speaker 4: gonna hit ninety runs or even eighty run. Maybe he
- 2:02:22Speaker 4: gets to eighty, but I just think that generally speaking,
- 2:02:25Speaker 4: he's overrated because we still think that he's a huge
- 2:02:28Speaker 4: stolen base guy after what he did in twenty twenty three,
- 2:02:30Speaker 4: but he's stole thirty one bases. He's projected for about that. Again,
- 2:02:33Speaker 4: I don't need to pay a third round price for that.
- 2:02:35Speaker 4: I can go throughout the draft and take different guys
- 2:02:37Speaker 4: who give me twenty stolen bases. I like, short stop
- 2:02:40Speaker 4: is a fairly deep position to begin with, so I
- 2:02:41Speaker 4: don't feel the need to reach up here to secure
- 2:02:44Speaker 4: a shortstop. So there's a ton of reasons why I
- 2:02:46Speaker 4: just I just haven't found myself interested in CJ. Abrams
- 2:02:49Speaker 4: for the second year in a row. I just think
- 2:02:51Speaker 4: the price. If he was going in the eighties or nineties,
- 2:02:53Speaker 4: that's fine, But in the forties, I just can't do it.
- 2:02:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I can.
- 2:02:58Speaker 1: I can see this too in terms of like the floor,
- 2:03:01Speaker 1: the floor is pretty deep, he's a below average defender
- 2:03:04Speaker 1: at shortstop, and some of the other factors he brought up,
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: like you just don't know. He's a very volume based player,
- 2:03:12Speaker 1: and if any of that volume kind of starts to
- 2:03:15Speaker 1: to peel back, or if the Nationals decide they want
- 2:03:18Speaker 1: to go a different way, you can see how it
- 2:03:20Speaker 1: unravels pretty fast.
- 2:03:23Speaker 2: Brew who's yoursel here?
- 2:03:25Speaker 3: Yeah, So I know I'm gonna get a ton of
- 2:03:26Speaker 3: hate for this one, and I'm selling James Wood, and
- 2:03:33Speaker 3: I'm there's reasons. There's reasons, and it's not long term
- 2:03:37Speaker 3: sell it. This is just really more redrafts sell. James
- 2:03:40Speaker 3: Wood has incredible talent, kills the ball, you know, has
- 2:03:44Speaker 3: great speed, all those kind of things. The problem I
- 2:03:47Speaker 3: got with James Wood is twofold one. You know, he
- 2:03:51Speaker 3: was not a fish and based dealer last year at all.
- 2:03:54Speaker 3: And if the Nationals are actually relatively competitive, they can't
- 2:03:59Speaker 3: have him just trying to figure it out on the fly.
- 2:04:01Speaker 3: I think they have to have him reeled back a
- 2:04:03Speaker 3: little bit. I'm not buying the projections of him, you know,
- 2:04:06Speaker 3: stealing twenty bases getting caught five times, like he's maybe
- 2:04:09Speaker 3: stealing twenty getting caught twelve Like. It's just he was
- 2:04:12Speaker 3: not the most efficient. I think he's still still figuring
- 2:04:14Speaker 3: things out. But the biggest thing that I'm worried about
- 2:04:17Speaker 3: with him is he he has this like weird Cabrian
- 2:04:19Speaker 3: Hayes profile, which is he doesn't hit the ball in
- 2:04:22Speaker 3: the air. He has the lowest launch aangle. His launch
- 2:04:26Speaker 3: angle is two point four percent last year. That means
- 2:04:29Speaker 3: he's hitting it down like straight into the ground and
- 2:04:34Speaker 3: he's he needs to figure out that launchangle and that
- 2:04:38Speaker 3: will start to unleash some crazy power. I just don't
- 2:04:41Speaker 3: know that he's gonna be able to do all of
- 2:04:43Speaker 3: those things at the age he is and figuring things out,
- 2:04:46Speaker 3: like I think long term he will make those adjustments.
- 2:04:48Speaker 3: But I'm not banking on like people are taking him
- 2:04:51Speaker 3: in like the third round now at some point, so
- 2:04:53Speaker 3: his ADP is still in the fifties. But you were
- 2:04:55Speaker 3: seeing him go in the third round and like you're
- 2:04:57Speaker 3: expecting him to go twenty five, twenty five and you know,
- 2:05:02Speaker 3: improve the average, but he's probably gonna hit two fifty,
- 2:05:04Speaker 3: two sixty, And I just think there's enough downside there
- 2:05:09Speaker 3: that if he doesn't figure the things out, like I
- 2:05:11Speaker 3: feel like I'm paying for him figuring things out. I'm
- 2:05:13Speaker 3: taking Brent Rooker like multiple rounds later and being just
- 2:05:17Speaker 3: as happy. But that's also because I absolutely love Brent Rooker.
- 2:05:21Speaker 3: But I just see there's so many things that he
- 2:05:24Speaker 3: has to figure out for him to fully unleash that
- 2:05:26Speaker 3: potential that I think people a gonna be slightly disappointed
- 2:05:29Speaker 3: in twenty five, and then as he starts to figure
- 2:05:31Speaker 3: out that value shoots up long term. So I'm selling
- 2:05:35Speaker 3: James Wood. I'm probably like the only person selling James would.
- 2:05:38Speaker 3: But as just as I look at the profile, there's
- 2:05:40Speaker 3: things that he has to figure out, and I those
- 2:05:44Speaker 3: are not easy things to figure out in the short
- 2:05:46Speaker 3: term unless all of a sudden, you've you know, took
- 2:05:49Speaker 3: the launch angle revolution, like you know, Chris Bryant back
- 2:05:53Speaker 3: in the day, something like that. So we'll see, we'll see.
- 2:05:56Speaker 3: Time will tell. I know, you guys both disagree with
- 2:05:58Speaker 3: me if that's fine.
- 2:06:00Speaker 4: I don't disagree with you. I don't like my initial
- 2:06:02Speaker 4: reaction was kind of surprised. But the launch angle thing,
- 2:06:06Speaker 4: you know, welsch Menzin mentioned it the other day on
- 2:06:08Speaker 4: one of our Fantasy Pro shows, and he still hit
- 2:06:11Speaker 4: nine home runs because he still was just such a
- 2:06:13Speaker 4: strong individual and he was STI label to muscle nine
- 2:06:16Speaker 4: of them out. But eve Ben in triple A, his
- 2:06:17Speaker 4: launch angle was three and a half degrees. It wasn't
- 2:06:19Speaker 4: just like major league pitchers did this to him. It's
- 2:06:21Speaker 4: a problem. It's a problem that he needs to work on.
- 2:06:23Speaker 4: Is he going to be able to fix that at
- 2:06:25Speaker 4: his age, which is twenty two without a ton of
- 2:06:28Speaker 4: major league experience, it's fair to bet against that, And
- 2:06:31Speaker 4: especially with the range he's going. He's fully priced. You're
- 2:06:34Speaker 4: not getting a discount. You're not taking a late flyer
- 2:06:37Speaker 4: on him. He's a foundational piece of your lineup. I'd
- 2:06:39Speaker 4: rather take wyat Langford. I'd rather take a lot of
- 2:06:41Speaker 4: guys going in that range over him. Langford a couple
- 2:06:43Speaker 4: picks earlier. But yeah, I find it hard to disagree
- 2:06:46Speaker 4: with anything you said.
- 2:06:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I do really love the profile. Part
- 2:06:51Speaker 1: of it is like it's really tough because he's a
- 2:06:54Speaker 1: very good hitter, and I like he hits the ground
- 2:06:56Speaker 1: balls because he smokes them through, and like that's why
- 2:07:00Speaker 1: the batting average compared to most guys that have a
- 2:07:02Speaker 1: six seven power batter power hitter frame, like you don't
- 2:07:07Speaker 1: count on that average, like James Wood's average, I think
- 2:07:10Speaker 1: will be there because he hits it so hard.
- 2:07:12Speaker 2: It's a little bit of.
- 2:07:13Speaker 1: Like can he make that shift the way that vlad
- 2:07:15Speaker 1: Guerrero did when he first came up, and like start
- 2:07:18Speaker 1: launching it because if he does, like lookout, then we're
- 2:07:21Speaker 1: talking you know, first rounder. But until then it is
- 2:07:24Speaker 1: a little bit of a rich price. I can see
- 2:07:26Speaker 1: what you're talking about, price wise.
- 2:07:27Speaker 3: Yeah, if you look at his triple A his triple
- 2:07:29Speaker 3: A line, he hit ten homers in fifty two games
- 2:07:31Speaker 3: and people are like, oh, just project that out thirty homers.
- 2:07:34Speaker 3: He had a thirty seven percent home run for flyball
- 2:07:36Speaker 3: rate in triple A. It literally like if he hit
- 2:07:40Speaker 3: a fly ball, it went out of the park, and
- 2:07:43Speaker 3: like that's just not sustainable. And with this type of profile, like, yeah,
- 2:07:47Speaker 3: he has the power to be able to do that
- 2:07:49Speaker 3: if he can figure out how to get that launch
- 2:07:51Speaker 3: angle up. He's not like hitting in field fly balls
- 2:07:54Speaker 3: or things like that, like he absolutely murders the ball.
- 2:07:57Speaker 3: Is just as a matter of fact, will he figure
- 2:07:59Speaker 3: this out this year? And that's where I'm like, I
- 2:08:01Speaker 3: think he's going to start to figure it out. If
- 2:08:03Speaker 3: I can buy September James Wood, I'm in, Like, I
- 2:08:06Speaker 3: just I'm buying the whole season of James Wood, and
- 2:08:08Speaker 3: I think that's it's gonna be a little bit a
- 2:08:10Speaker 3: little bit rocky.
- 2:08:12Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:08:13Speaker 1: My cell here is it's a little bit later of
- 2:08:15Speaker 1: a cell, but it's Nathaniel Lowe first basement here just
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: because it's a little bit of a reminder too in
- 2:08:21Speaker 1: terms of like the depth of the first base profile position,
- 2:08:25Speaker 1: like it is very very thin this year that you
- 2:08:29Speaker 1: know it used to be. I would be able to
- 2:08:30Speaker 1: go into drafts, and Nathaniel Lowe was a little bit
- 2:08:33Speaker 1: of like a check to say, hey, is low still
- 2:08:37Speaker 1: on the board, because if he is, I've got my
- 2:08:39Speaker 1: kind of first last first base corner infield option if
- 2:08:43Speaker 1: I'm desperate, and I can keep buying stolen bases in
- 2:08:46Speaker 1: different spots and kind of being a little bit more
- 2:08:49Speaker 1: aggressive and making sure that I'm getting profiles I really
- 2:08:52Speaker 1: like as opposed to trying to lock myself into a
- 2:08:55Speaker 1: first basement where there isn't much growth. Low is also,
- 2:08:59Speaker 1: you know, he's been really almost too passive, and the
- 2:09:04Speaker 1: barrel rate has really been starting to degrade on him.
- 2:09:07Speaker 1: I think the move here to Washington, you're also I
- 2:09:10Speaker 1: know that they traded a previous and piece in Robert
- 2:09:13Speaker 1: Garcia for him, but this is a team that you know,
- 2:09:15Speaker 1: just last year they had Joey Gallop for a little
- 2:09:18Speaker 1: bit and shipped him out of town because they wanted
- 2:09:20Speaker 1: to start bringing in youth. I think Nathaniel Low needs
- 2:09:23Speaker 1: to kind of watch out for that. But it is
- 2:09:25Speaker 1: also a little bit of like a flashing red light
- 2:09:28Speaker 1: to people out there that hey, you cannot be counting
- 2:09:31Speaker 1: on people like Nathaniel Low, who you thought were solid
- 2:09:35Speaker 1: every day forst basement out there, because then you're gonna
- 2:09:38Speaker 1: be looking at a dude who's like barely giving you
- 2:09:40Speaker 1: a batting average that's league average, gonna be maybe giving
- 2:09:44Speaker 1: you like fifteen to eighteen homers and just like really
- 2:09:48Speaker 1: killing you in all sorts of categories. And you've got
- 2:09:52Speaker 1: to get on your first baseman much quicker this year.
- 2:09:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't disagree. I actually went looked at the ADP.
- 2:09:59Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, there's the and a low. Maybe that's
- 2:10:00Speaker 3: a by opportunity to start looking into him, like it's
- 2:10:03Speaker 3: just there's just not enough there, there's not enough meat
- 2:10:05Speaker 3: left on the bone at this point. He's he's kind
- 2:10:08Speaker 3: of a minus at first base at this point.
- 2:10:11Speaker 4: Yeah, if he's your corner infielder, I'm okay with it.
- 2:10:13Speaker 4: But if it's your starting first baseman, then I think
- 2:10:15Speaker 4: you may have waited a bit too long.
- 2:10:17Speaker 2: Mm hmm, Okay, who's your pictically here, joe.
- 2:10:22Speaker 4: By pick? Are we we're doing prospect?
- 2:10:24Speaker 2: No? Are we not prospect?
- 2:10:27Speaker 4: Yeah? Sorry the terminology. I was like, hold on, I
- 2:10:29Speaker 4: already gave a regular Yeah, that's what happens when I, uh,
- 2:10:32Speaker 4: when I'm not used to set up. But no, my
- 2:10:34Speaker 4: prospect pick is Jarlen Schussinna and I got Yeah. So
- 2:10:40Speaker 4: from what you mentioned earlier about the closer potential, somebody
- 2:10:43Speaker 4: who just needs to figure out the command, he was
- 2:10:47Speaker 4: one of the pieces that came over, I believe in
- 2:10:50Speaker 4: that trade for Juan Soto a couple of years ago,
- 2:10:54Speaker 4: when they just completely revamped the entire team. It's incredible
- 2:10:59Speaker 4: how they're the base of that team was fully built
- 2:11:02Speaker 4: out from that trade pretty much. But Susanna gives you
- 2:11:05Speaker 4: a ton of strikeouts. He has pretty much throughout his
- 2:11:08Speaker 4: entire minor league career in the thirty ish percent range,
- 2:11:11Speaker 4: in the last couple of years in the thirty five
- 2:11:13Speaker 4: percent range. Command is not terrible. Like a lot of
- 2:11:16Speaker 4: times you'll see these kind of guys in the minors
- 2:11:18Speaker 4: and it's like a fourteen to fifteen percent walk rate.
- 2:11:20Speaker 4: You think it'd be a closer, but he's only in
- 2:11:22Speaker 4: that nine to ten percent range. The last couple of seasons.
- 2:11:27Speaker 4: The eras have not been good, and you can look
- 2:11:29Speaker 4: at Okay five, fourteen, four to forty seven at various levels,
- 2:11:32Speaker 4: but he's really getting killed in the babbit. It's like
- 2:11:34Speaker 4: in the three seventies every year, and he's always beating
- 2:11:37Speaker 4: it in terms of the pips and the x fips
- 2:11:38Speaker 4: by like a couple of runs. So I don't think
- 2:11:40Speaker 4: the true talent level is in the fours. I think,
- 2:11:44Speaker 4: especially when you look at where this team is at.
- 2:11:47Speaker 4: I mean, the projected closer right now is Jorge Lopez,
- 2:11:50Speaker 4: so I think there's a good chance that they move
- 2:11:52Speaker 4: off of him. At some point. Now, maybe it's not
- 2:11:54Speaker 4: just Lopez that the roster resource has Derek Law and
- 2:11:56Speaker 4: Jose Ferrara also projected at the back end there. But
- 2:11:59Speaker 4: it's gross. It's a really grow situation. I think there's
- 2:12:01Speaker 4: a chance that Susana, if he starts off the year
- 2:12:04Speaker 4: looking good, there's a chance that he ends up as
- 2:12:06Speaker 4: the closer. And I think there's a chance you agree.
- 2:12:08Speaker 1: There, Yeah, I mean I think there's like a couple
- 2:12:12Speaker 1: of routes that he can go, just like Chase even
- 2:12:14Speaker 1: you know, I think he can. He has a much
- 2:12:17Speaker 1: bigger frame than Tchasse. It's a six to six frame,
- 2:12:19Speaker 1: and so like Susanna could easily be a starter, but
- 2:12:23Speaker 1: if they want to fast track him, he'll be a
- 2:12:26Speaker 1: great live arm in the bullpen. So this also kind
- 2:12:29Speaker 1: of goes hand in hand with how the Nationals are
- 2:12:32Speaker 1: kind of tracking throughout the season that this is kind
- 2:12:35Speaker 1: of their ace in the pocket. You know, if they're
- 2:12:37Speaker 1: running five hundred through the All Star break, I think
- 2:12:40Speaker 1: you can see Susana be moved pretty quickly so that
- 2:12:43Speaker 1: they can maybe make a run at that wild card spot.
- 2:12:45Speaker 1: And yeah, even long term, you just got to love
- 2:12:49Speaker 1: what the profile looks like. In terms of it's kind
- 2:12:52Speaker 1: of it's really hard to find like your next wave
- 2:12:55Speaker 1: of aces in dynasty and keeper leagues, and I think
- 2:12:58Speaker 1: Susan is one of the few arms that can really
- 2:13:01Speaker 1: push it to getting you into that top ten range
- 2:13:05Speaker 1: pretty quickly within a year or two.
- 2:13:06Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:13:07Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, brew, who is your pick to click
- 2:13:12Speaker 1: from the prospect side on the nets?
- 2:13:15Speaker 3: Well, I'm glad we're just gonna stick with six six
- 2:13:17Speaker 3: pictures and I'm going to go with Travis Deakora, the
- 2:13:21Speaker 3: national's single a pitcher. He only has a whole one
- 2:13:25Speaker 3: season under his belt that he got in twenty twenty four,
- 2:13:28Speaker 3: but he was absolutely dominant. He struck out thirteen and
- 2:13:32Speaker 3: a half guys per nine on a thirty nine percent
- 2:13:36Speaker 3: k K rate and kept the walks under under three
- 2:13:39Speaker 3: per nine eight percent walk rate, keeps the ball on
- 2:13:42Speaker 3: the ground. Actually was a little bit unlucky with leaving
- 2:13:46Speaker 3: guys on base. And his ERA was two thirty three.
- 2:13:48Speaker 3: His FIP was actually one eighty seven. He was a
- 2:13:51Speaker 3: twenty year old at that a. Like he just dominated,
- 2:13:54Speaker 3: and like he is this big, tall, lanky guy, like
- 2:13:57Speaker 3: you can just imagine him filling out and just pump
- 2:14:00Speaker 3: gas that he is hard to hit, and you know,
- 2:14:03Speaker 3: he's got all kinds of upside written all over him.
- 2:14:05Speaker 3: So he's not fully a known quantity yet, but he
- 2:14:09Speaker 3: is starting to fly up pitchure rankings. And you know,
- 2:14:13Speaker 3: if if you want to compare him to another guy
- 2:14:14Speaker 3: in the miners, like Noah Schultz, I think is a
- 2:14:17Speaker 3: very very reasonable calm for a similar type type of picture,
- 2:14:20Speaker 3: similar lenky type guy. I think he's gonna be in
- 2:14:24Speaker 3: the miners all year in twenty twenty five, but he's
- 2:14:28Speaker 3: gonna be knocking on the door early in twenty six,
- 2:14:30Speaker 3: and that rotation is not the hardest to break into
- 2:14:32Speaker 3: at this point. So I think that he's going to
- 2:14:35Speaker 3: be flying up draft word which for sure going into
- 2:14:38Speaker 3: next year. So by him, now, buy him before everybody
- 2:14:41Speaker 3: is fully on board. But I don't think it's going
- 2:14:45Speaker 3: to be long before everybody is buying Sikora.
- 2:14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm right locksed up with you that
- 2:14:52Speaker 1: like this is the guy who's more twenty twenty six,
- 2:14:55Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven, but like we're going to be talking
- 2:14:57Speaker 1: about maybe than number one pitching prospect kind of late
- 2:15:01Speaker 1: in the summer that he's gonna especially if he is
- 2:15:05Speaker 1: in double a shoving. It's gonna be really hard for
- 2:15:09Speaker 1: the news to just kind of spread fast and wide. Absolutely,
- 2:15:14Speaker 1: all right, we did it, guys. We did forty five
- 2:15:17Speaker 1: ish players here all together. Let's wrap it up here
- 2:15:20Speaker 1: for this week.

- 2:15:34Speaker 4: you can go ahead. Gray al right's not gonna come
