- 3:28my redeemer. Amen, We're glad to be with you today, and I
- 3:31am very grateful for this time and opportunity for you. And we have another
- 3:37wonderful guest for you this evening, and we're going to talk about something that
- 3:40people don't talk about and they should be and many people don't know to talk
- 3:45about it because they don't understand the absolute necessity of it. And this is
- 3:50why you find a lot of people losing their identity, getting their things stolen
- 3:55from them, their identity stolen, and what it takes to get it back
- 4:00after it's stolen. And this evening, we're going to be talking with none
- 4:04other than Miss Regina King, and she is the owner of Cybersim and Cybersim
- 4:12is one of the only female, black, female owned and operated cybersecurity firms
- 4:19in the world, not in the United States, but in the world.
- 4:24And I am very glad that she's here and we appreciate her taking the time
- 4:30to come on and she is going to tell us what it is all about
- 4:34when it comes to cybersecurity. And I'm letting you know now, when you
- 4:40get through listening to what she has to say about cybersecurity, you're gonna think,
- 4:45oh, well, I need this at my house too, not just
- 4:48businesses. But she's going to break it all down to you. And I'm
- 4:51introducing to you Miss Regina King, and she is the owner of cybersim Security.
- 5:00Miss Day. Hello, how are you? I am very well.
- 5:05I am glad you're here. I'm glad you took the time out of your
- 5:09business schedule to visit me this evening because I think it's very important for people
- 5:14to understand the magnitude of security in this day and age, the magnitude of
- 5:20how people take away your security, how they take away how they just steal
- 5:28your life. We've had a couple of people that we knew that had everything
- 5:31taken from them, and the interesting thing is they get it. They get
- 5:36all their securities, their identity and everything stolen, and people blame them and
- 5:45treat you as the culprit, But it was your identity was stolen, that
- 5:48was stolen, and you have to prove that you are who you are while
- 5:53the thief is gone and using your credit cards, using your bank accounts,
- 5:57and everything else. So I'm here, the floor is yours. Tell us
- 6:02The first thing we want to know tonight is why cybersecurity. So, cybersecurity
- 6:12is something that it seems like every year it gets more and more important because
- 6:19everything is going digital, and so with cybersecurity, you have to protect your
- 6:26information. Everyone is doing everything online. They're shopping online, they're paring their
- 6:31bills online, they're banking online. They're doing everything online. But my question
- 6:40would be, with you doing all of that online, you're giving all of
- 6:43your information to a website that may or may not be a real website.
- 6:49So cybersecurity helps to protect your information, not just online, but really all
- 6:57the way around. What do you mean may not be a real website?
- 7:02Do you have websites that may look like a legitimate website. Case in point,
- 7:11Macy's. Macy's may send you an email that says, hey, your
- 7:15account is so and so and so click here in this email and then that
- 7:21eating Once you click on that link in your email, it's gonna take you
- 7:27to a website that may not be Macy's. It may look like Macy's name,
- 7:32but we all know Macy's don't have an apostrophe in their name. It's
- 7:39something just that simple. If you're not paying attention, it'll still have the
- 7:45same red letters, but that apostrophe will let you know that's not Macy's,
- 7:50that's something else. So there are a lot of fake websites out there that
- 7:56if you aren't really paying attention, because still your information absolutely seeing. These
- 8:01are things that people and I would say this a lot of older citizens,
- 8:09they would look, oh, that looks legitimate to me, let me click
- 8:11on that, and then all of a sudden, what happens. They're frozen
- 8:16out of their accounts. Give us an account of what happens when you do
- 8:20that. So when you click on a link or you go to a website,
- 8:28and I'm gonna venture out to say a lot of the social media pages
- 8:33that you go to outlets, they have a lot of advertising all around those,
- 8:39and you click on it, again, it may or may not be
- 8:43legitimate. So when you do click on something or you go to a website,
- 8:48they'll ask you for your information. They'll ask you to potentially verify your
- 8:54information, and so all they want you to do is put in your name,
- 9:01your phone number, your email address, your credit card, information.
- 9:07And once you start doing that, well, let me let me, let
- 9:11me back up. When you click on the link, it's probably going to
- 9:16download what's called a key logger onto your computer. You never know it's it's
- 9:24there because it's silent, and a key logger, A key logger, a
- 9:31key logger and all that. It all it is is kind of like a
- 9:37worm or a trojan that records every keystroke and it feeds that information back to
- 9:46the culprit That's one way how they they get your information by downloading something on
- 9:52your system. Once you click on that link and you go to that website
- 10:00and then you start filling out the fields on that website verifying your information,
- 10:07it's recording your information there too, wow, and it's just feeding it back
- 10:11to the culprits are as we call them, bad actors, cybercriminals, Yes,
- 10:20cyber cyber criminals. So my question to you is you you how long
- 10:26have you been doing this? About twenty five years? About twenty five years?
- 10:30Yes? When when did you get when did you start honing in on
- 10:35cybersecurity? When did that become your primary concern? Believe it or not.
- 10:41It's it's kind of like a testimony about fifteen years ago. What really made
- 10:46me start debbing down into cybersecurity is my social media page was hacked on Instagram
- 10:56and so when people started telling me, hey, there's this Asian person on
- 11:03your page, and I'm trying to figure out, Okay, how did they
- 11:07get my information? One? How did they get my user name? How
- 11:11did they get my password? You know, and I had no clue.
- 11:16And out of that frustration, I'm like, this has to stop. It
- 11:22has to see somebody have to do something to stop this. And so I
- 11:30made it my mandate to learn more about cybersecurity. You know, I've been
- 11:35in technology for over twenty five years to hone in on cybersecurity, to help
- 11:41people protect their data from people who like to steal their stuff. And the
- 11:48sad part about it is the government, the companies, like the credit card
- 11:54companies, they really don't care. They just want their money. And so
- 11:58that's how I really got into it, because someone hacked my social media page.
- 12:05And out of that frustration came cybersim and necessity is the mother of invention.
- 12:13And you have definitely you have definitely grewn and shown that because I would
- 12:20never have thought, never in who people who have small businesses they don't consider,
- 12:28you know, the importance of having their information or even the people that
- 12:33they who are their clients their information protected either. They don't think about it.
- 12:39I know I didn't until you let me know, but I needed to
- 12:41do. So what we're going to do is that we're going to take a
- 12:45very brief commercial break and we're going to come back and we're going to delve
- 12:48into some more of the intricate details of cybersecurity and you awesome basic Black After
- 13:01Dawn in our new podcast show with your host Black Diamond Type, they got
- 13:22to go after I'm gonna miss around a flip to see this will return with
- 13:26one with a little touch of late frost. Lay spurs Lay spurs Ye said
- 13:45that the way and we are back. We are back, and we are
- 13:50with the Miss Regina King and she is the owner of Cybersim and cybersim is
- 13:58literally one of the only female black owned cybersecurity firms in the world. And
- 14:05I say that with much pride because we need to realize who we have walking
- 14:11side by side with us every day. We have people of greatness and this
- 14:16is one of the reasons that I love Love the Podcast, Love the Crew
- 14:20podcast because when the founder, Miss Angela, when she decided to do this
- 14:26and got people together. There are people with so many wonderful stories that no
- 14:31one would ever hear if it was not for this. It was not for
- 14:37uh, this podcast and this platform. And we love it. We love
- 14:39it, we love it. Now back to the the idea of cybersecurity with
- 14:46the smaller businesses and individuals. All right, what do you want to know?
- 14:56Olive it? So with the smaller businesses, you know, when I
- 15:03say small businesses a hundred employees or less, it could be uh, you
- 15:11know, a sole proprietorship type business. A lot of the small businesses don't
- 15:18have an IT department, and so they have computer systems, they have you
- 15:26know, people's data, but it's not really protected really unless they have hired
- 15:35maybe you know, an outside firm to assist in protecting that data such as
- 15:41your Absolutely, absolutely and basically cybersecurity is the practice of just protecting your network,
- 15:50protecting your data, protecting you know, the programs that you use for
- 15:56your customers. You know, for retail, it's the POS system point of
- 16:02sales systems, and so as a small business, you may not have the
- 16:06grandeur IT room with servers you know left and right. You may have one
- 16:14server if you have that, and it may not may or may not have
- 16:19an anti virus on it. It may not have you know, a protection
- 16:26type system like a firewall that protects your data inside from the bad people on
- 16:33the outside. So my firm comes in help you right out something specific for
- 16:41your business to help you protect that data. Now, that's for small business.
- 16:48For individuals. Home users, just about every home have Internet, and
- 16:57there's a lot of stuff that you have connected to your Internet. You have
- 17:03your computers, you have your phones, you have your tablets, you have
- 17:08your televisions. Now many people now have the digital thermostats. All of this
- 17:18is connected to the Internet. I'm gonna drop this in. I'm gonna drop
- 17:23this in and I want you to think about it. When your Internet is
- 17:29installed, did you change the admin password to your Internet modem? And did
- 17:40you change your user name to the Internet modem? Or is it the same
- 17:48as when the technician came in and installed it. Wow? Okay, I
- 18:03never gave that one. I old have thought, not one. I old
- 18:07thought never thought about it. You know, they came in there, installed
- 18:11it X number of years ago and it Wow. So you change that because
- 18:18you change that because one, you're not the only one that has that information.
- 18:23The technician that installed it has that same information. And at any given
- 18:30point in time, they know where you live. They installed it, they
- 18:36can drive right by, connect to your network at home, and connect to
- 18:41your computer systems with people. And wow, See this is why I have
- 18:49people like this on because she just opened up a plethora of information, not
- 18:56only to me, but I'm sure to probably everyone who's on, who's listening,
- 19:03who's tuned in. And it is so interesting too that these are things
- 19:11I never thought to change. Why would I want to change it? They
- 19:15know? Wow? So I appreciate I appreciate you breaking this down for us,
- 19:22and you gave us information where you said your company would come in and
- 19:26you would do there would be a write up of a like somewhat of a
- 19:30plan of action, a plan of action okay for small businesses, policies and
- 19:38procedures you know, to protect your data. Okay, Okay, so now
- 19:45go ahead. I just I just need to ask now for for this,
- 19:52I want to write here, I want to put plug in how they can
- 19:56contact you. So my upside is cyber dash sim s ym dot com.
- 20:06My email address is Regina dot King at cyberdash sim dot com and our phone
- 20:15number is eight three two three seven nine two two two four. We're open
- 20:23eight to five Monday through Friday by appointment only. If you'd like to meet
- 20:30with us, We would definitely love to us set an appointment with you to
- 20:34kind of go over what it is you're lacking, because the worst thing that
- 20:38can happen is you go somewhere to make a purchase and all of your money
- 20:45from your bank account is gone. Oh see knowledge, Now this is what
- 20:48I would like you to do. And then you see the private chat uh
- 20:56huh type all your information in there, okay, and it can be and
- 21:00it can be posted all right, and I need that I need to listen.
- 21:07I need that done a SAP. I need it done right now.
- 21:11But this is what I want to write, yeah, right now. The
- 21:15people who are listening to you now, one of the questions, uh,
- 21:21are you just local or are you nationally? We can be national virtually because
- 21:32of technology. We can talk to any anyone anywhere. We can create a
- 21:37plan at any time anywhere, because it's basically, you tell me what you
- 21:42have and we can devise that plan for you because every company is different.
- 21:48Every company has a different need. Some companies don't need a whole lot,
- 21:52maybe they just need an anti virus, and so we can do that.
- 21:59And that's that's one of the things I was going to ask too. With
- 22:03the anti virus. You know, the it doesn't take much to be proactive
- 22:11as opposed to reactive, because it costs you more to fix something than it
- 22:18does to maintain it. Am I correct about that? You are one correct?
- 22:23It takes billions of dollars to fix a breach, a data breach,
- 22:30billions and one of these Sometimes it's not recoverable. Sometimes what I'm sorry,
- 22:37Sometimes it's not the data is not recoverable. Well, and something like this
- 22:44happened to our US government. Didn't they get breached? They did? I'm
- 22:49just asking him a question. We're talking cybersecurity. We are they if they
- 22:56had hired you, they wouldn't have gotten the breach. You're absolutely right.
- 23:03See That's what I'm saying now. This is this is something that I may
- 23:07not know a lot about, but I know for myself. Had I not
- 23:11followed a couple of the things that you told me and and we did,
- 23:17or you told me to do and I did. It is just so very
- 23:22important now and the farther along we get in this life, this thing called
- 23:26life, the more we need cybersecurity, ycause people are coming from everywhere.
- 23:33They're doing the electrical grid. Was was taken down? Wasn't it taken down?
- 23:38That? But so you know, things like this are what we need.
- 23:45So you know, we have your information on the screen and people who
- 23:49know what who have heard anything about this, and possibly there's some people who
- 23:55have already been act I was, and then you and then with the hackness
- 24:02you get. It's so irritating. It is so irritating. And then you
- 24:06have people you need to get business done. You can't get the business done
- 24:10because people have done, you know, have hacked in. It took you
- 24:12taking your stuff and it's and then you try to get your your money at
- 24:18the bank there are people look in your face, well but miss Gloria,
- 24:22I can't give you okay, Then you know, yeah, and this is
- 24:30you don't need that frustration. And that's why Miss King is here and available
- 24:34for you to get even the smallest, the smallest thing. You may think
- 24:40it's small, but it is not. When it comes to criminal activity.
- 24:45It is not small because once you once you were hacked, you know,
- 24:48it's it just it causes a very, very large problem. And I'm going
- 24:52to ask you to give us, give us just a bit more information because
- 24:56we're you know, on here or of course at certain length of time,
- 25:02but I want you to give us a little bit more information about how detrimental
- 25:06it is and how important it is even for the individual individual to have cybersecurity.
- 25:15Absolutely, one of the biggest things is to be aware. You know,
- 25:21back in the day they say be aware of your surroundings. Well now
- 25:26it's be aware where you put your information. From large corporations, mid size,
- 25:33small, all the way down to the home front. You have to
- 25:37be mindful of what you do. And it doesn't take a lot to do
- 25:44when you're at home. All it takes is paying attention to the websites that
- 25:49you go to, pay attention to your email. There's so much phishing emails
- 25:56that's going out, you know, there are so many phone calls. People
- 26:02are being called saying it's the IRS and you resident call anybody. They don't.
- 26:10They don't call you, and they will not send you an email.
- 26:12Let me repeat that, the IRS will not call you and they will not
- 26:18send you an email saying you owe them. They will send you a certified
- 26:22letter right along with the banks. The banks are not going to ask you
- 26:27to verify any information via an email. So when you see a lot of
- 26:33these things, and I'm gonna give you this tenbit to do. When you
- 26:40see an email and you wonder if something inside of you say kind of don't
- 26:45look right, but it does it do. Case in point, Amazon,
- 26:51there's a lot of emails that are going out. They have the Amazon name.
- 26:56It looks like Amazon, It kind of smells like Amazon, but it
- 27:00really is an Amazon. Because Amazon is not going to tell you in an
- 27:03email that your account is locked. No, they won't. And I've gotten
- 27:08so many of those. Absolutely absolutely, And so you'll find out your account
- 27:15is locked when you try to log in. Yeah, after you log in,
- 27:18they'll tell you with a notification something's wrong with your account. Fix it.
- 27:25But they're not going to tell you that in an email. So that's
- 27:29something to just start looking for. Now they're going with text messaging. You
- 27:33got your email, you know you got just leaving information laying around text messages.
- 27:41Now they're texting you telling you you know so and so your account is
- 27:45locked, thinking it's a bank, and you realize you don't even bank at
- 27:52that company, So why are you clicking or calling the number in a text
- 27:56message? Say that again? If you don't bank there, why are you
- 28:02even engaging what? Yes? Yes, So these are just little tidbits to
- 28:10start paying attention too, because they're getting slicker and slicker by the day.
- 28:15The more stuff they can make look real, the more people, especially the
- 28:22elderly. It flusters me to no end when I hear of an elderly person
- 28:30being scammed by some criminals like this, and so I want to be able
- 28:36to educate everyone. Do the little bitty things. You know, A lot
- 28:40of people have passwords, and I bet you you never thought about this.
- 28:45A lot of people have passwords that are related to their name, family member,
- 28:53birthdays, something that numerous people pretty much know or can figure out.
- 29:02Change your passwords at least every ninety days on your accounts. I know it
- 29:07takes a lot to do, but do that because it will, in the
- 29:14end keep your information safe. Not only that, use complex passwords. Complex
- 29:22passwords or passwords that have at least thirteen fourteen characters and not a D E
- 29:30F G one two, three, four fact no eight characters. That that's
- 29:37that's of the old. Make sure it's a complex password. And and if
- 29:45whatever it is, the website, the bank that you're with, if they
- 29:49have multi factor authentication, take advantage of that because we explain that. But
- 29:59it's multi what did you say, multi factor authentication And basically what that is
- 30:07it's a second way for you to be authenticated on the website. On a
- 30:12website, for example, you put in your password, but then it sends
- 30:18like a one time code to your phone. It'll ask you to download maybe
- 30:23Microsoft Authenticator, and so once you put that information in, it'll send that
- 30:30code to your phone and you have to type that that six digits into that
- 30:34website to gain access. It's it's a multi layer of protection for you.
- 30:44Well, I this is what I will say. Anyone who needs to have
- 30:49their cybersecurity upgraded, updated or just done period needs to contact Misregina King at
- 30:59cyber sim because she is one of the masters of this. This came about
- 31:03through what she faced, what she did, what she went through, and
- 31:10as I stated, necessity is the mother of invention. And I am very
- 31:15proud that she is a black woman in business and has one of the premier
- 31:21businesses in the United States, otherwise known as the world. I thank you,
- 31:26Miss King, for being on with me this evening, and I'm sure
- 31:33that people have gotten a plethora of information from you, and I'm and I'm
- 31:37also sure that you will be getting some calls because this is not the last
- 31:42time that they will hear this. It is not. And I again I
- 31:47thank the the the leader of our group, Miss Angie, and all my
- 31:52my podcast the crew. I thank them for always having literally and this is
- 31:59no joke, my back as a new beyond the on the group, on
- 32:01the on the podcast scene. And I again I just applaud you all for
- 32:07being the people who you that you are. And in closing, my prayer
- 32:14for everyone here is to live according to Deuteronomy twenty eight one through fourteen.
- 32:22That is my prayer for you and I will see you all next time on
- 32:27Take your life back, live for your purpose. Until then, be blessed,
- 32:36Bye, bye, blessings everyone, and thank you for joining me this
- 32:39evening on my podcast Take your life backward, power to live for your purpose.
- 32:44I am Gloria
