- 0:32Dan Schulz: Traffic, parks, housing, sidewalks, all of it.
- 0:36Dan Schulz: This is the stuff city leaders use when they're deciding where the money goes next.

- 1:16Jennifer Davis: Kids can jump into activities.
- 1:18Jennifer Davis: There will be food vendors, music, giveaways, and community booths all over the park.
- 1:24Jennifer Davis: Bring a chair or a blanket because this one could get crowded
- 1:30Dan Schulz: If you've got little kids and you need something easy to do tomorrow, the Redmond Library is doing family story time at Farrel-McWhirter Park from 12:30 to 1:30.
- 1:40Dan Schulz: It's part of their, summer run that goes through August, and it's a good one because it's outside.
- 1:47Dan Schulz: They'll do books, songs, and the usual story time stuff, but kids can move around without parents stressing about them being too noisy.
- 1:57Dan Schulz: Bring snacks and let them burn a little energy after
- 2:05Jennifer Davis: If your Wednesday night sounds better with books than bars, Brick and Mortar Books has their romance book club from 6:30 to 7:30.
- 2:13Jennifer Davis: This month they're reading Cosmic Love at the Multiverse Hair Salon, which might win for best title alone.
- 2:20Jennifer Davis: It's built around inclusive romance books and open to anybody, whether you read one romance a year or 20.
- 2:28Jennifer Davis: Good excuse to meet some people and talk books without it feeling like homework.
- 2:34Dan Schulz: You know what today is?
- 2:36Dan Schulz: It is Tuesday, and that means you've got a decision to make.
- 2:41Dan Schulz: You can grab some boring lunch, or you can head on over to La Tia Angelina food truck for their legendary world-famous Taco Tuesday deal.
- 2:51Dan Schulz: We are talking $1.50 tacos made with their authentic recipes straight from Jalisco, Mexico.
- 2:57Dan Schulz: This is not some chain restaurant trying to do Mexican food.
- 3:01Dan Schulz: This is the real deal.
- 3:03Dan Schulz: This is a real family operation that's been perfecting their craft for years.
- 3:09Dan Schulz: The husband and wife team even have their five kids helping out sometimes.
- 3:13Dan Schulz: You can find their food truck parked behind the bus stop near the QFC in Bellevue, right next to the Tikka Masala restaurant.
- 3:20Dan Schulz: And they offer student discounts too if you're a Bellevue College student.
- 3:25Dan Schulz: These people care about their community, and it shows with every single taco they make.
- 3:30Dan Schulz: This message brought to you courtesy of La Tia Angelina
- 3:36Jennifer Davis: Soul Food has a weekly chess club and it's one of those easy drop-in things where you don't have to be good to show up.
- 3:43Jennifer Davis: If you know your openings, cool.
- 3:46Jennifer Davis: If you barely remember how the bishop moves, also fine.
- 3:50Jennifer Davis: Grab coffee, sit down, and play a few rounds.
- 3:54Jennifer Davis: It's low pressure and a solid way to break up the middle of the week
- 3:58Dan Schulz: As long as you remember how to drink coffee, I think you'll be fine
- 4:01Jennifer Davis: I think, yeah
- 4:03Dan Schulz: Okay, this is a serious story if you, especially if you have a dog.
- 4:08Dan Schulz: Obviously, the 4th of July is coming up, so consider this a quick heads-up if your dog loses it every 4th of July.
- 4:16Dan Schulz: The neighborhood fireworks usually start before the 4th of July, and they're already getting started around town.
- 4:22Dan Schulz: You probably heard them.
- 4:24Dan Schulz: If your dog gets anxious, now is the time to prep.
- 4:28Dan Schulz: Wanna take them for longer walks in the day?
- 4:30Dan Schulz: That'll help.
- 4:31Dan Schulz: Set them up in a quiet room.
- 4:33Dan Schulz: White noise helps, too.
- 4:34Dan Schulz: And double-check their tags and microchip just in case, you know, God forbid, they break out of the house.
- 4:41Dan Schulz: Every year, dogs bolt because of fireworks.
- 4:43Dan Schulz: Better to get ahead of it now
- 4:47Jennifer Davis: The Redmond Cycling Club's Get Mad 2026 ride is basically sold out, but now the whole thing might get derailed because of route safety concerns near Moich Lake.
- 5:00Jennifer Davis: Washington Department of Traffic says debris and hazards along State Route 165 need work before a big organized ride can safely roll through.
- 5:09Dan Schulz: That is so disheartening.
- 5:10Dan Schulz: I really hope they get it worked out
- 5:13Jennifer Davis: Yeah, me too.
- 5:14Jennifer Davis: I mean, they had the Ram Rod canceled, and then they came up with this great idea, and now this is also at risk.
- 5:20Jennifer Davis: So hopefully, they get this figured out
- 5:25Dan Schulz: All right, it is time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and/or around Redmond.
- 5:35Dan Schulz: I've got a question for all of you playing at home.
- 5:38Dan Schulz: Jennifer, you are the substitute listener.
- 5:41Dan Schulz: You are playing for them, so do not screw it up.
- 5:44Dan Schulz: Are you ready for the question?
- 5:46Jennifer Davis: I am
- 5:47Dan Schulz: What is the current name of the road that used to be Main Street in Old Redmond?
- 5:56Dan Schulz: And your choices are A, Cleveland Street; B, Redmond Way; C, Leary Way; or D, Avondale Road.
- 6:09Dan Schulz: And your time starts now
- 6:13Jennifer Davis: Wow, what is the current name of the road that used to be called Main Street?
- 6:17Jennifer Davis: Oh boy, this is rough.
- 6:19Jennifer Davis: Well, I don't think Avondale ever ran over there.
- 6:22Jennifer Davis: I think it's either Leary Way or Cleveland, but I'm gonna go with A, Cleveland, just because that seems like a main street to me.
- 6:32Jennifer Davis: So my final answer is A
- 6:34Dan Schulz: Oh, no.
- 6:38Jennifer Davis: I missed.
- 6:38Jennifer Davis: Ah.
- 6:39Dan Schulz: were looking for C, Leary Way.
- 6:43Jennifer Davis: Ah, that was my other top guess
- 6:45Dan Schulz: back when Redmond was a small logging town, the main drag through downtown was just called Main Street, but as the town grew, it was renamed Leary Way.
- 6:54Dan Schulz: The corner, of Leary Way and Cleveland Street became the center of old downtown.
- 6:59Dan Schulz: That, of course, is where Bill Brown built his saloon and garage, and where the Redmond State Bank opened in 1911.
- 7:07Dan Schulz: That same corner is still pretty busy today
- 7:11Jennifer Davis: Yeah, it sure is.
- 7:12Jennifer Davis: That's where all the people hang out.
- 7:13Jennifer Davis: It's right there by the park.
- 7:17Dan Schulz: Quick question.
- 7:18Dan Schulz: If your neighbor came to you and said, "Hey, I've got this weird wet spot here in the yard and it's not drying up," would you know what you would tell them?
- 7:27Dan Schulz: Uh, probably not because most people wouldn't, and that's usually an underground water leak, and most plumbers don't even handle that.
- 7:35Dan Schulz: In fact, they'd tell you to call a specialist, and that's where Simply Leak Detection comes in.
- 7:41Dan Schulz: They're the company that a lot of plumbers call when they can't find the leak.
- 7:46Dan Schulz: Non-invasive, no digging, they pinpoint exactly where the leak is.
- 7:51Dan Schulz: They have over 300 5-star reviews, and they cover Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue, This message brought to you courtesy of Simply Leak Detection
- 8:08Jennifer Davis: Word is a small boutique paddleboard and kayak outfitter might be circling a spot near Marymoor with direct water access Think rentals, lessons, and guided sunset floats on Lake Sammamish.
- 8:22Jennifer Davis: Supposedly, this would be a smaller local setup, reservation only, and not one of those giant chain rental places.
- 8:30Jennifer Davis: We don't know where exactly or how far along it is, but if this happens, where do you think it'll land?
- 8:36Jennifer Davis: If you've got a guess or have heard something, head on over to our Facebook page at facebook.com/bestofredmond and drop it in the Redmond Rumor Mill Guesses post.
- 8:48Dan Schulz: And while you are at our Facebook page, search for the Your Picks post and answer this question.
- 8:55Dan Schulz: We wanna know who you think the best dog groomer in Redmond is
- 9:00Jennifer Davis: If you've enjoyed this podcast, you're gonna love our companion newsletter.
- 9:05Jennifer Davis: Find it at bestofredmond.com, and we'll see you in the next one
- 9:08Dan Schulz: Or maybe before then, walking around Redmond.
