- 0:02My wallet is sobbing. I can hear it.
- 0:04I can hear it in the hall now. It is breaking down crying.
- 0:08It turns out that Attila the arrogant so and so he's got a
- 0:12fake hammer. Oh, A.
- 0:13Fake. Yeah.
- 0:14Whoa. As I say, Dick.
- 0:18Welcome to episode 129 of the Allegiance Podcasts.
- 0:22And we're back again. And we have some figure Obscura
- 0:26Jersey Devil to talk about. And unfortunately this week Rich
- 0:31started a new YouTube channel where he's just going to
- 0:34continuously count his fish over and over again.
- 0:37And he started this afternoon recording the first video and
- 0:39he's still counting. So he wasn't able to join us.
- 0:43So it's just me and Mal for the I think it's every other week at
- 0:48the moment now. What's going on?
- 0:52Fishy fingers. I believe he's calling it
- 0:53because it counts using his fingers still.
- 0:57So he's up to 9 now. So, you know, maybe in an hour's
- 1:00time you get to 10. You just see his head kind of
- 1:03going around. Oh, oh, there.
- 1:04No, no, no, you know, And then he loses count and he has to go
- 1:08back to the start. But he, he heard me talking a
- 1:12couple weeks ago by him and Mr. Beasts started a YouTube channel
- 1:16where, where he was just counting up numbers.
- 1:18And now he's like gazillionaire. So he thought, he thought this
- 1:22was his way out of the civil service.
- 1:23So, you know, have to admire the man you know.
- 1:28Even if it's been done before, you got to try it again.
- 1:30Try it. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:31Well, he's he's unique. Unique taken.
- 1:33It's the fishy, fishy angle. Yeah.
- 1:35Yeah. And in the meantime, he'd be
- 1:38designing more custom fishy heads for religions.
- 1:41Khan. Yeah.
- 1:42So unfortunately, Byler Frost Fir will be having a slightly
- 1:47different voice than he might have had.
- 1:50And he is Byler. He.
- 1:53I don't know. We don't know, really.
- 1:54Yeah, I kind of assume he is, but I'm not sure he actually
- 1:58specified as yeah. Having genders, are they?
- 2:03Yeah, so we got a couple of after we do the figure of Skura
- 2:08and whatever else we talk about, we will put in a few more of the
- 2:12stories from our vines, man, maybe them all, maybe not, maybe
- 2:17some. Let's see how we get we go.
- 2:19We'll definitely try and record them all and then it'll be
- 2:22whether I get them all done in time for release.
- 2:25So that's between my laziness and my pretend busyness, you
- 2:30know? Not at all.
- 2:33And otherwise Mal all good. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:36All good. Yeah, yes.
- 2:39Do you regret and spend the money in those test shots when
- 2:41the the figure dropped? Yes and no.
- 2:45The test shots I've got I'm very happy with.
- 2:47So yeah, you know, I didn't mind too much and it's one of those,
- 2:54as much as I was tempted by loads of the figure obscure
- 2:57don't really need them. I haven't got any real ideas for
- 3:01them, so I just. I think if you, if you realistic
- 3:05and I'm talking from my perspective now, and I'm sure
- 3:07you're the same, if you realistically see how many
- 3:09customs you get through with all the stuff that you think you're
- 3:12going to do, you probably don't need more than an extra 1 or so
- 3:18for the moment, you know, and I'm sure that as we'll see that
- 3:22I'm sure those parts will will crop up again, you know, Oh.
- 3:25That's definitely. I'm almost certain they will.
- 3:28But you're definitely not when talking to test shots.
- 3:30You're not as bad as the guys in the mythic enablers who went
- 3:34test shot crazy. I listened to their episodes
- 3:37from this week today and yeah, why it got 12.
- 3:43He had he had a number of muse. Right.
- 3:49Who were helping him so he's girlfriend and then he had I
- 3:54think Brett helped him with one, Rick Emmert helped him with
- 3:57another one and various other people, be it from his family or
- 4:03from the cabal picked up different head shots from and
- 4:05then he went back and picked up a couple I think from you know,
- 4:09that were leftover. I mean, he is one of the admins
- 4:13in the test shot Facebook group, so, so I suppose it is his
- 4:18thing. But still I was, I was a little
- 4:21bit on the floor listening to that.
- 4:22Yeah, that's a lot of test shots in one go particularly.
- 4:26That's what it is. Yeah, and I think Eric, who
- 4:30picked up a number as well, he's, he's a test shot fan.
- 4:32He likes test shots. Yeah.
- 4:34And Joe Russo has buddy that collects test shots.
- 4:37So Joe eh gets as many test shots as he can in the sale and
- 4:41then does all sorts of deals with his friend to get like
- 4:45older figures from the line and stuff.
- 4:46That's how he got his auto before and stuff.
- 4:48So right that I mean, that's different ways of, you know,
- 4:51collecting and it's all for it's all for the goal of collecting.
- 4:54It's you know, in the end, it's not really about eh the Jones
- 4:581234 or anything. You know, it's although you
- 5:01could even say with Rich that the money he gets from that does
- 5:05just go back into other. Figures.
- 5:06Hopefully that's. What?
- 5:07He's not. He's recently he's not.
- 5:09Old stuff to buy new stuff. Yeah, we can confirm with his
- 5:13wife Kerry, but he's not he's not putting an extension on the
- 5:16back of the house with the the eBay money or anything.
- 5:18It's just a, it's just a circle as Richard.
- 5:24Don't give her. Don't give her any ideas.
- 5:30I think we can safely say she probably won't listen to this
- 5:33anyway. Yeah, I can see him there.
- 5:37He's just come back. He's just gone back to one
- 5:39again. He lost count.
- 5:41I see him there. He's using our stream yard as
- 5:43well to do his channel until he makes a few quid and gets his
- 5:47own. So I can just see he's gone back
- 5:48to one. Yeah, he's got it.
- 5:50He's got. He's gone off to get another
- 5:52beer. He's probably won't be able to
- 5:54count by the time. So anyway, the figure Obscura
- 6:02did drop Jersey Devil and I think with the little teaser
- 6:07that we got, and I'm kind of glad that they dropped the
- 6:10teaser just the day before now so that we don't have to spend a
- 6:14bit of an episode trying to make films of ourselves predicting
- 6:16what it's going to be. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:20I'm like, oh, this week's episodes done.
- 6:22That's great. And it's coming on Saturday, so
- 6:24I don't need to, but it's cool. It's fun in our Discord, for
- 6:28example, with our Patreon friends.
- 6:29Eh, that's always fun because you can make food yourself in
- 6:33there and you know, it's not really making a feel yourself
- 6:35really speculating. And yeah, it's fun and
- 6:39speculation, isn't it? So I think with the little lore,
- 6:42I mean, Jersey Devil was definitely a stand up Bigfoot,
- 6:45Bigfoot or something like that and other ones of that kind of
- 6:48ilk. Or also I think good guesses,
- 6:53but it was the Jersey Devil and which has quite a goofy
- 7:00depiction, the most famous depiction.
- 7:02So I think we would have been worried that it was going to
- 7:04look a bit goofy. But I think the horsemen did
- 7:08their best to to make it really cool looking figure.
- 7:13Yeah, I think it looks great. Yeah, yeah, I like, I like the
- 7:20kind of whole silhouette with the wings.
- 7:22And OK, there is some comment that the head is a bit big, but
- 7:26I think in this type of Cryptid type creature that can work, you
- 7:30know? Yeah, you know, and you get
- 7:33figure stand in the figure. So you always get something big
- 7:36and bulky and plasticky like a Dio piece or something in the
- 7:40figure box. This time it's an orange stand.
- 7:43Never had that colorway stand for sure.
- 7:47I'm thinking that might end up reusing that for Aritha in my.
- 7:52That's a good one. Yeah, Yeah.
- 7:53That blend in well with him. Yeah.
- 7:55Yeah. And, but makes sense with this
- 7:59guy's, well, he's got wings. So you could you could you can
- 8:03lift up that little metal piece and put him in a sort of a
- 8:07flying or taking off pose. And so, yeah, you get the
- 8:12figure. And this figure is big.
- 8:16It's AI think I'm watching Dorkers video.
- 8:20It's pretty much the same height as an ogre, so about the 9
- 8:24inches up to the top of the horns.
- 8:27And it dwarfs a regular one point O figure.
- 8:31So even though it's using a lot of one point O compatible parts
- 8:37like the legs, they're from Windaji the cockler.
- 8:40So that's a very early preview of those because, I mean, we
- 8:46won't get that rise of the base way till least next year
- 8:50sometime. Yeah.
- 8:52And the upper body is a Frankenstein's monster, but it's
- 8:58without all the stitching. Basically the scarring, the
- 9:01stitching. So yeah, it's been retooled to.
- 9:04Yeah, So what they said was that Jeremy had written in the
- 9:09article on the website that and in the darker video he says it
- 9:13as well that they had sculpted this at the same time.
- 9:16So they did 2 scopes and actually two of them at the same
- 9:20time as well and put it in the kind of vault for future use.
- 9:26So obviously able to fit it in the same tool and then maybe
- 9:32save a little bit of money. So and that gives us this cool
- 9:37figure here because yeah, it is hard to reuse that parts, which
- 9:41is the stitches me fine. For us customizers, we could you
- 9:45know, we can make great all sorts of weird monsters.
- 9:48But if you're doing, using, doing it kind of commercially
- 9:50like this, it still just looks like Frankenstein.
- 9:53Yeah. It's but you know, and and and
- 9:57kind of then looks a bit weird tail pretty cool as well.
- 10:01That's a new kind of it has that devil classic devil kind of
- 10:06looking tail and an open mouthed head as well as a closed mouth
- 10:10head. So.
- 10:12And the tail is flexible like the monkey.
- 10:15Yeah, tail as. Well, yeah, bendy wire and stuff
- 10:18like that. And we have the translucent
- 10:24wings for the minute I saw them on.
- 10:27You can see them a bit better in a few minutes.
- 10:29Now on Trevor's photos, the dog are the kind of scene photos
- 10:35that he does and you can see with the lights that kind of
- 10:39sees through. So it's kind of, it's painted so
- 10:41that it kind of gets lighter towards parts of the wings and
- 10:44you can see through them even better.
- 10:46So that's really cool and I think appeals to you, Mal.
- 10:51You always love a bit of translucent in your figure, you
- 10:53know? Yeah, I do, definitely.
- 10:55And some of these shots that Trevor took, he just shows it
- 10:58off amazingly well. So cool.
- 11:01Absolutely, and then we get some bone club weapons which I
- 11:04believe are from Thraxian sketch.
- 11:06Yeah. And one of the skulls which we
- 11:10may have got with tuberculos I think already, or, or the heads
- 11:15back. Yeah, I can't tell.
- 11:17It reminded me of the chimera, but I'm not sure if it is.
- 11:22I'm not sure it is if it is though.
- 11:24Yeah, cool. And then extra stuff you get
- 11:30with it as well, which is the pin set.
- 11:36Always a sucker for the pins myself, which always makes me go
- 11:40on the all in. Yeah, the mug which makes up the
- 11:43all in. Yep.
- 11:45And, and it's one of those told my, I think this, this to me
- 11:49looks like the same type as the Father Christmas mug.
- 11:52Yeah. And which I think is my favorite
- 11:57type so. Yeah, I think.
- 12:00Win, win their. Favorite like that they've done
- 12:02so far and yeah, just something about it.
- 12:06And I love the way the pins have an open they have the two head
- 12:09sculpts that they're closed an open mouth.
- 12:12Just really cool to have both of them bit of value there.
- 12:18You see the box art on the on the middle picture here.
- 12:22And then retro rags do always with the figure obscure the
- 12:27design on different pieces of apparel.
- 12:30So if you want to go over to retro rags to get your apparel
- 12:35to go with this, that's what you can do.
- 12:38So that doesn't that part of it doesn't come in the all in.
- 12:42It's fair enough. I mean, that would be very
- 12:44complicated to try and do all insurance with different size
- 12:47shirts and stuff like that. So it's a separate website if
- 12:51you're not familiar with retro rags, but they basically work
- 12:55alongside the horsemen for apparel for this type of stuff.
- 13:00You can get a bunch of mythic and cosmic designs over there as
- 13:05well. So we take a look at the couple
- 13:10of pictures here of him front and back.
- 13:13The wings go into the fur piece and that fur piece goes into the
- 13:19neck be like in the neck hole or whatever.
- 13:25And then there's another ball joint on that fur piece with the
- 13:27neck that goes and then the two different heads can can go into
- 13:30that ball joint. So I think pretty secure there.
- 13:33You don't need to worry. It's not one of those fur pieces
- 13:36that just sits on the on the torso.
- 13:40Get a good look at the tail there.
- 13:42So you can see it does look like a devil's tail and see a couple
- 13:50of different angles there on him.
- 13:53This is the cool one with the open mouth.
- 13:55So you can see that the the open mouth sculpt just brings a lot
- 14:00of character to it. I think, yeah, there's so, yeah,
- 14:05I think the whole thing just looked great.
- 14:07And they've so the whole, the whole figure who's his character
- 14:12and the combinations of parts. I think some of the most fun
- 14:16we've had with the, with the fur bottom and the, you know, the
- 14:21bare torso and then this big, huge furry head.
- 14:26Yeah. It's just, yeah, so much going
- 14:29on. I love it.
- 14:30Absolutely. And then we get to Trevor's
- 14:35photos as a couple. He's done a couple.
- 14:37I think he always goes all out with the figura.
- 14:39So there's the one where you can see the translucent wings and
- 14:43how they work. Really cool, creepy in the
- 14:47forest. There's a couple of the rain
- 14:50shot, I mean. I hadn't seen that one.
- 14:53Yeah, yeah. That was in the source Horseman.
- 14:57And then you have just a cool one on a wall, like a castle
- 15:04wall or something like that, and then there's one in the forest.
- 15:11The screaming head given all the character.
- 15:14That's that's my favorite one. Yeah.
- 15:17Thank you. Looks exception.
- 15:18Excellent. The way the light comes through
- 15:21the through the wings. Yeah, so as you say, they always
- 15:26go all out for the figure. Obscure releases, Trevor,
- 15:30Wonderful photos as always. And we also got a little map of
- 15:36Jersey with the different, the different places, I guess
- 15:42they're the different sightings. And there's a place called Leeds
- 15:47where the Jersey Devil is believed to have been born.
- 15:54So it's not Leeds as in in England where the football club
- 15:58comes from. No, there's a Leeds in Jersey.
- 16:02And I see down the bottom here. The scale of this map is in
- 16:06British statute miles. There you go.
- 16:14That one sent to ME3 course 10 miles.
- 16:19Possibly, Yeah, Yeah. Oh, we can't be bringing
- 16:22centimeters into this. Come on.
- 16:26Inch. Let's say an inch to a mile, 10
- 16:29miles, Yeah. I'm not going to finish that.
- 16:37Thought no don't. So Tom Tolman was also involved
- 16:43in the art here as well as Nate Birch and Tom Tolman.
- 16:46Also, you would have seen some visit art on Ganesha so.
- 16:52He's doing a great job, isn't he?
- 16:53As well? It complements Nate.
- 16:55It's art perfectly. So I believe Nate would have
- 16:59done a lot of the, you know, maybe original sketches or, you
- 17:04know, first passes and then Tom Tolman came in and did, you
- 17:08know, finished off them. And there's probably some of his
- 17:11art as well. I don't know the exact
- 17:13breakdown, but it seems like they they really work well
- 17:17together. So.
- 17:20So Nate's working full time for the Horseman, and now it seems
- 17:23that he still has too much to do.
- 17:26So that's pretty incredible. Well, I mean, that was one thing
- 17:31that I caught from some of the conversations.
- 17:34I think it was Bill said it on like the reveal special that
- 17:42yeah, that Trevor does. And he said that Jeremy had said
- 17:48the reason they're releasing it early is because there's more
- 17:52stuff to come. So we could have even more stuff
- 17:56coming in September. Yeah, I'm, I'm going to, I'm
- 18:01going to bet the house on legacies of mythos coming up in
- 18:05the next couple of weeks after this.
- 18:08So, so one more chance for this on this Friday, which is the day
- 18:17this episode goes public. Well, probably Thursday night in
- 18:21the US, but Friday is the day for the second pre-order.
- 18:26I think 9:00 AM again EST on Friday, something like that.
- 18:30OK, so look out for that. If you want to have another go
- 18:34at it. By the urge not to go back in
- 18:38for more the mug, I want another one of the mugs so I can have
- 18:41one to use and one to keep. I am such so bad for the source.
- 18:46That sort of thing. Yeah.
- 18:49So I guess there's been all the reaction shows are real shows,
- 18:53so we don't need to dwell too much more.
- 18:56I like the figure. I think it's cool.
- 18:58I just got the all in and have it in my collection.
- 19:01I don't have any custom ideas or custom time.
- 19:04We have so much other stuff to do so going to leave it for the
- 19:06moment. And Mike attempted by second one
- 19:10if they did have them. Allegiance can, but won't be too
- 19:12worried otherwise. Wouldn't say it's my favorite
- 19:17figure ever, but it's pretty cool.
- 19:20I think I think it's one of my one of my, you know, up there in
- 19:24terms of my favorites, the cryptids, and I know I can speak
- 19:29for Rich on this one as well. The cryptids are something I
- 19:32would love more of in this line and this is a great start for
- 19:36that. Absolutely.
- 19:39Yeah. So maybe just to finish out
- 19:43here, just read the little description of the Jersey Devil
- 19:47for those that are not that familiar.
- 19:49One of the most well known and legendary creatures.
- 19:52OK, the Jersey Devil is the first crypto to make its way
- 19:55into the ranks of Figure Obscura.
- 19:59While many have heard of this monster from the Pine Barons of
- 20:02New Jersey, far fewer will know of the strange origins of this
- 20:06creature from the cursed 13 child of a witch who lived
- 20:10during the 1700s. To the product of a dispute
- 20:13among the pre revolution Quakers who had settled in southern
- 20:17Jersey. To a grisly joke perpetrated by
- 20:20one of the United States founding fathers.
- 20:23The history of the Devil of Leeds is as strange as the
- 20:27creature itself, making it a perfect addition to the figure
- 20:31obscura. And if you want to read more
- 20:34about that, there is a figure Obscura section on the
- 20:40horsemen's horse horsemen website and a bunch of cool
- 20:44detail there about this figure. So get stuck into that.
- 20:48And they do say one more thing. It's definitely not the last
- 20:52crypted in figure obscure first, but not the last.
- 20:55So that's a very they don't say things without purpose.
- 21:00So, you know, making that what you will so very cool.
- 21:05So looking forward to get that. We'll definitely talk a little
- 21:09bit more about it with Rich and when he's back next time.
- 21:11And we'll of course have a little worried about what we
- 21:15think about it in hand as we go along.
- 21:18But I guess to continue on here, we're going to do what we're, I
- 21:23hope, good at, which is continue with the stories of our
- 21:26advancement and get back to it. It's it's very getting close to
- 21:32Leeds can now it's amazing. What are we talking?
- 21:35We're nearly at the end of August.
- 21:38I mean, I saw school, I saw pictures of people whose kids
- 21:42going back to school. Now we go back very late here.
- 21:45We're 15th of September because we finish very late sometime in
- 21:50July. So going back to school seems
- 21:54pretty early now, but yeah, that's the time here we're
- 21:57getting to. It'll be no time at all.
- 21:59It's. Nuts isn't it?
- 22:01This month seems to have just flown by.
- 22:05Yeah, amazing. Wait for Legions Con guide to
- 22:08see everyone as well. Yeah, awesome.
- 22:10That's going to be awesome. Yeah, I'm going to try and take
- 22:13a breath this time and actually enjoy it even more.
- 22:16And for sure if we have the free day on the Thursday because we
- 22:22didn't get lucky out of the G Con draw.
- 22:25So we'll we'll have fun that day, then let's see what we do.
- 22:29Would you spend that day crying as we think about all the people
- 22:32having a lovely time at the sobbing in abbeys, in the in the
- 22:37old, Yeah. Let's just get slashed in the
- 22:41old. Come on.
- 22:42That would be. That would make it a tough
- 22:44weekend if we already got slashed on Thursday.
- 22:49Let's try not do that. Let's see if anyone designed any
- 22:52ideas what we should do on the Thursday of Allegiance con that
- 22:55doesn't involve action figures. Let's know.
- 22:59We'll be off for. Yeah, we'll be off for, you
- 23:02know, visiting something cool or doing something cool, you know,
- 23:07let's see. And yeah, So my Silver Knights,
- 23:10I got the shipping notice and I preached priority shipping.
- 23:14So this was in two days. Can't believe it.
- 23:17So that would be exciting and and my package on the way to
- 23:23Anthony has arrived in the States.
- 23:24So hopefully, hopefully it gets through customs without getting
- 23:30blocked. Back of the bus.
- 23:32You got to pay your money. Riches apparently got through
- 23:35and got delivered. So happy for him.
- 23:38Yeah, counting his fish up. He's back to he's back to 1
- 23:41again. He's never going to get it done
- 23:45this this channel. He might be back to us next
- 23:47week. Tab between his legs, right?
- 23:50Enjoy those stories. Horror of Einser Mull Part 5
- 24:03Byla frost fur. It had to have been the Orc, the
- 24:08grain said. The entire party was weary, but
- 24:12none of them could sleep after the events of the previous
- 24:15night. They sat in the backroom of the
- 24:17inn while Birla served them bowls of porridge and more
- 24:20plates of sausages. Jacul is 1 tough customer.
- 24:24Boris replied. But this is not like him.
- 24:28Why would he want to kill our people?
- 24:30He needs us and our trade as much as we need him and the game
- 24:35he brings for us. He's not part of Iron Small, is
- 24:38he? Igrain asked.
- 24:40It depends what you mean. Einsmail is the name we use for
- 24:44our town and also for this area of the Northlands as a whole.
- 24:48Boris explained. The orc is not townsfolk, but
- 24:52he's unsworn like the rest of us, and he lives in this area.
- 24:58He's had his share of scrapes with some of the townsfolk for
- 25:01sure, but he's been around for years and years and we've never
- 25:05had any serious trouble with them.
- 25:07It just doesn't make sense for him to be behind any of this.
- 25:10You saw him have words with our party yesterday, Graham said.
- 25:14And then our paladin turns up dead.
- 25:16Same paladin that this Jacoline Bones confronted in.
- 25:20You're in. There's too much of A
- 25:22coincidence for us to ignore. As of now, the orc is our best
- 25:26lead. We need to find him and bring
- 25:28him back here to be questioned. The gnome side.
- 25:31He did not believe that Jacol was behind the killings or that
- 25:34he had taken the paladin, but he had to admit that it looked bad
- 25:38for the orc, and he did not have a better potential suspect to
- 25:42offer up in place of old iron pones.
- 25:46I know someone who can find his lair.
- 25:49Boris finally said, but before he could finish, the mage and
- 25:53the Ranger entered the room. They were wrapped in the heavy
- 25:56cloaks with their packs on their backs.
- 26:00Where were you going? Igrain asked.
- 26:03We are headed back to the Castle of the Four Sides.
- 26:06The mage replied. What?
- 26:09Igrain said We can't leave now. Our mission was to find out what
- 26:15is happening up here and to help if we could, or report back if
- 26:19we couldn't. We've now lost one of our own
- 26:23and we believe there is a chance that this orc is a part of the
- 26:27hidden force from the Legion of Aretha.
- 26:30There could be an enemy force who survived the Second Great
- 26:33War and has been hiding up here in the north.
- 26:37That is ridiculous. Boris snapped.
- 26:40The Tundra Orcs never fought for Arethea.
- 26:44How would you know who fought for who?
- 26:47Weren't you hiding up here? And I smile during the war.
- 26:50The maid shot back. Don't presume that you know what
- 26:54I know. Boris answered.
- 26:57I was not born in the fair N I've travelled in Mithas, I've
- 27:02seen your tower of Wizards, or at least I've seen it before it
- 27:06fell. I know something of the realm
- 27:10and its people, and I tell you the tundra arcs were never
- 27:14aligned with out there or his warmonger.
- 27:17Then maybe this orchid, his kin or with one of the other evil
- 27:20powers as Arlenian Ranger chimed in.
- 27:23That's not important. What is important is that we
- 27:26need to return to the castle to report what has happened.
- 27:30If the five seats so wish, they can send a larger party to hunt
- 27:34down the orc or whatever else may be at play here.
- 27:38These people will not survive if we leave them, E Graham pleaded.
- 27:42You go and you assure their deaths.
- 27:44If we stay, we assure our own. The mage answered.
- 27:49I am sorry Commander, but my first allegiance is to my
- 27:52faction and my second to the five seats.
- 27:56Staying in Nine's MA and laying down my life for people who
- 27:59would not do the same for us when we needed help is a fool's
- 28:02task. Our mission was to help these
- 28:05people, E Grain replied, making sure our words were firm and
- 28:09left no room for debate. And I command you to stay and
- 28:13fight with me. The mage and the Ranger were
- 28:17silent. Very well, Commander E Grain.
- 28:21The mage finally replied. You are a leader after.
- 28:26All. Igrain nodded and then excused
- 28:28herself. The exchange had shaken her and
- 28:30she couldn't avoid sleep any longer.
- 28:33Her body needed rest and her eyes closed.
- 28:35As soon as her head hit the pillow on her bed, Igrain's eyes
- 28:40opened to see the light of the mid afternoon sun shining into
- 28:43the room. They are gone.
- 28:46Called a voice to her left. Igrain startled and turned
- 28:49quickly, but it was just Halvardi sat in the room beside
- 28:53her. What's he saying?
- 28:56She asked as she rubbed the fogginess of sleep from her
- 28:59eyes. The mage and the Ranger are
- 29:01gone. He repeated.
- 29:04They left shortly after you came upstairs.
- 29:07Did you try to stop them? A Grain said as she bolted out
- 29:10of bed. How long ago did they leave?
- 29:14I did not try and stop them. Their minds were made-up, and
- 29:18they will be too far away now for us to try and catch them.
- 29:21The mage used a transport spell. It may work, it may not, but
- 29:26they were eager enough to leave to try it anyway.
- 29:29Igrain swore and slammed her fists down on the night stand
- 29:33beside her. It was her first command and she
- 29:35had now lost 1 soldier to violence and seen two more
- 29:39abandoned their posts. General Dofina would not be
- 29:42impressed by her results, and Igrain fully expected to be
- 29:46demoted upon her return to the castle.
- 29:49Come on. Alvard said.
- 29:51You are awake now we must go. I'm not leaving these people,
- 29:55Igrain said. Hi, neither am I.
- 29:59Alvard replied. The gnome found us a tracker.
- 30:03We do not run from this fight, we go and seek it out.
- 30:07What manner of creature are you? Igrain asked in amazement as she
- 30:10looked at the fox like creature before her.
- 30:13I am a vulpine. Aimed the reply in a small voice
- 30:16that matched the small size of its speaker.
- 30:19Isla Frostfur is by name. Your race is not known in our
- 30:22kingdoms. Alvard said, explaining the look
- 30:26of surprise on Igrain's face. Not even in the coals of
- 30:30Bjorngar have we seen your kin. Well met, Boris.
- 30:34Said. I am so used to bailor here that
- 30:37I haven't even remembered that I had a similar reaction when I
- 30:40first met him and his family. Needles to this area by what I
- 30:44can tell, but that's not important now.
- 30:47What's important now is that he can help you find.
- 30:51Jacol, we do not have much light left, Bailor said.
- 30:55Heading out now would be bad. We got first light good.
- 30:59Ukraine began to protest that there was no time to lose, but
- 31:03the Volpine tracker was unmovable in his insistence that
- 31:06they had to wait until morning. Eventually Ukraine stopped
- 31:10arguing, realising that there was no changing Byla's mind.
- 31:14Whatever was out there waiting for them would have to wait
- 31:17another day. Grain and Halvard found Byla by
- 31:20a fire the next morning just as the first rays of light began to
- 31:24make their way into the sky. The tracker had a frying pan on
- 31:27the fire as he cooked a few of the sausage links that seemed to
- 31:30be part of every meal in ice and malt, along with some chunks of
- 31:34heavily seasoned potato. He said as he offered food to
- 31:39his two new companions. The Grain accepted a plate and
- 31:43passed another to Halvard. Eat up fast, then we go.
- 31:48Viola said as he devoured the food in front of him and licked
- 31:51his lips to clean up any last bits of greasy goodness.
- 31:54The pan sizzled in the snow as the Volpine cleaned it off and
- 31:58clipped it to the pack that he then hoisted upon his back.
- 32:01Come, he said. I will take you now.
- 32:04Grain and Halvard struggled to keep up with the tracker.
- 32:08Despite the small size of his legs, the Volpine was incredibly
- 32:11fast and agile, and his furry poured feet allowed him to
- 32:16seemingly bounce off the icy train as he easily navigated the
- 32:19landscape before them. Even the armour that Byler wore
- 32:23did not seem to slow him up as he bounded her head with his
- 32:26walking stick in one hand and a small blade at his side.
- 32:30I'm surprised to see you in heavy armour.
- 32:32The grain said, more to break the silence than anything else.
- 32:36Neither Byler nor Halvard were big talkers, and it was too
- 32:40quiet for a grain's liking. The North is dangerous.
- 32:44Byla shrugged. Armor keeps me safe.
- 32:47It's not too heavy. Too heavy for me.
- 32:50No, look, I can still jump. Byla said as he bounded before
- 32:54them, clearly proving that his choice, Varman would not impede
- 32:58his mobility. Suddenly the tracker stopped.
- 33:02SH, he said. Stay.
- 33:04By the motion for Grain and Halvard to get down.
- 33:08Once they crouched down, the tracker took off, bounding ahead
- 33:11and making his way over a large snowdrift, who turned a short
- 33:15time later and quietly reported what he had found.
- 33:20The Oak's cave is near, he said. We must be quiet.
- 33:24He is a hunter. He can hear.
- 33:26He can smell. Trio made their way quietly
- 33:29forward, eventually finding a spot where they could clearly
- 33:31see the mouth of the large cave, but where they were also
- 33:34somewhat hidden from view. Did you see Jacal?
- 33:37The Grain asked. SHHH.
- 33:39Isle scolded. Look and see.
- 33:42They waited in silence as the cold winds whipped around them.
- 33:46The grain pulled a cloak closer and wondered how long they would
- 33:49have to wait for some signs of their quarry.
- 33:52By the whispered pointing to the horizon, 3 shapes began to
- 33:55emerge from the distance. One was very small, one quite
- 33:59large, and one was very, very large.
- 34:02They come. The tracker said.
- 34:04Stay down. The sun was getting low in the
- 34:07sky and it shined from behind the three approaching forms,
- 34:11silhouetting them against the horizon.
- 34:13As they grew closer, Grain began to make out what she was seeing.
- 34:17The Tundra Orc, Jacal, Iron Bones was the large form they'd
- 34:20seen. He trudged along, holding his
- 34:22bone club. In front of him modelled a small
- 34:25goblin like creature with the same ice blue skin as the oar.
- 34:29This was the smallest of the three approaching forms.
- 34:33Grain had seen her fair share of goblins during the Second Great
- 34:36War, but never 1 like this. His little red eyes darted about
- 34:41as he scouted ahead. Grain hoped that he wouldn't see
- 34:44them, and thankfully his gaze never drifted their way.
- 34:48The final form and the largest of the three took a Grain's
- 34:52breath away and it suddenly made the direness and danger of their
- 34:55situation very, very clear. It's pure.
- 35:00Alvard whispered before translating.
- 35:02It's an ice bear. Horror of Einsermal Part 6 is
- 35:27beyond. The problem before them was
- 35:30suddenly very clear, and also much bigger than they had
- 35:33bargained for. The Grain had expected that they
- 35:36would need to contend with the Tundra Org or whatever violent
- 35:39grudge he had for the people of Einsmore, but looking after the
- 35:43massive white bear that trailed behind the oar, she knew that
- 35:46they'd greatly underestimated what they were going up against.
- 35:51We must go. Vilas said.
- 35:53And he began to scamper away. We must go now.
- 35:56Alvard and the Grain followed, doing their best not to disturb
- 36:00the icy landscape or alert their quarry to their presence.
- 36:03They had to get back to the inn so they could figure out how
- 36:06they would deal with the ice bear.
- 36:07The Jacola iron bones seemingly turned against einsermal.
- 36:12How big was the bear? Boris asked, amazed at the story
- 36:16that the trio told after arriving back in Einsermal Inn
- 36:19and Public House. Best guess 150 to 160 stone.
- 36:24Alvard replied. And solid muscle.
- 36:27If it attacked we could not take the creature down with just
- 36:30weapons we have. We need to find a way to
- 36:32incapacitate it if we hope to stop it.
- 36:35A. Trap a grain asked.
- 36:38You want us to capture it? It is our only chance in a
- 36:42straight fight. We do not have the strength in
- 36:44numbers to overwhelm it. The bear would take us down 1 by
- 36:481 before we could do enough damage to stop it.
- 36:51If we trap it, we can render its claws and bite useless and give
- 36:57ourselves a chance to strike a killing blow.
- 37:00Are. You sure the bear is our killer?
- 37:02Boris asked. I have to say, I'm still not
- 37:06convinced that Jacquel is behind all this.
- 37:09He has a fully grown ice bear that he keeps in his lair,
- 37:12Igrain replied. You've said that the York is
- 37:15well known here in Einsermal, but I expect he failed to
- 37:18mention that he's housing 160 stone ice bear, no.
- 37:23Boris did not reply, his silence answering the question for him.
- 37:28He kept the fact that he had this bear from you for some
- 37:31reason. The grain continued.
- 37:33The victims of iron somole were torn to shreds.
- 37:36The claws on this bear were gigantic.
- 37:39They absolutely could have made those wounds you've described.
- 37:42Boris contemplated the situation and finally nodded his head in
- 37:46agreement. Something felt off to him, but
- 37:49he had to accept what was in front of him and the likeliest
- 37:52answer was that the Orcs bear was the monster that had
- 37:56terrorized his people. What is your plan?
- 37:59The gnome finally asked. How will we catch this beast?
- 38:07The trap was set. Halvard and Bylick had come up
- 38:10with a contraption that wouldn't stare the bear's feet when it
- 38:12walked upon the trap, rendering the powerful claws useless and
- 38:16making it nearly impossible for the creature to move.
- 38:19With the bear trapped, they expected that the org would
- 38:22immediately attack, and perhaps even the goblin would prove to
- 38:25be a threat if they were all together on a hunt.
- 38:27This meant that they would need to deal with Jacol quickly and
- 38:30stop him before the bear had time to break free and join the
- 38:33fight. To this end, Igrain had asked
- 38:36for every able bodied resident of Einser Mole to take up arms
- 38:39and be ready. Alvard was right, they were not
- 38:43an army, but they were defending themselves from something that
- 38:46had taken some of their own, and those who remained would do
- 38:49whatever they had to in order to end this nightmare.
- 38:52He will come at night. Alvard said as they planned
- 38:55their course of action, they had emptied the town and brought
- 38:59everyone into the inn. Most of the town's residents
- 39:01were there already, and the few who resisted coming over for
- 39:05safety but eventually convinced of the need to do so.
- 39:08There was no one in the streets of Einsermal and the entire town
- 39:11was eerily quiet. We have a few hours until dark,
- 39:15Grain said to Alvard, slapping him on the back.
- 39:18Come, we will eat whatever food we can find and share stories of
- 39:22the wars we've fought, the battles we've won and those
- 39:26we've said goodbye to. Along the way.
- 39:30Commander Egrain and Halvard of Frothfard downed their 4th pints
- 39:33of Boris's Wolfbane Lager. They had both seen battle during
- 39:37the Second Great War, and they're both bled for their
- 39:40kingdoms. Since the end of the war, they'd
- 39:43found themselves sitting in debates at the Castle of
- 39:45Foresight rather than wielding weapons against the enemies of
- 39:48the realm. For a barbarian soldier from the
- 39:51Colds of Buongar and a young knight raised on the Warm Coast
- 39:54of Ethos, these two warriors discovered that they had much
- 39:57more in common than one would initially expect.
- 40:00They were both proud warriors who believed that the time of
- 40:03usefulness had passed, and that the glory of death in the duty
- 40:06of battle had slipped away from. Do you miss the battles?
- 40:10The Grain asked, somewhat embarrassed to do so.
- 40:12I. Alvard nodded.
- 40:14We fought for peace and we got it, so why aren't we happy?
- 40:19The Grain mused. It was a question she'd quietly
- 40:22considered and asked herself many times, but this was the
- 40:25first time she'd ever vocalised these sentiments to another.
- 40:29We shouldn't long for war. It's not natural and it's not
- 40:32right. Such is the curse of the
- 40:35soldier. Alvar answered.
- 40:37We fight for a peace that we find that we cannot ourselves
- 40:40enjoy. Suddenly, the doors of being
- 40:43burst open and Jacola Iron Bones flew into the room.
- 40:47Ukraine and Halvar jumped from their seats and drew their
- 40:49blends, but the pair immediately noticed that the Tundra Orc was
- 40:53not wielding a weapon. They also saw he was covered in
- 40:57blood but did not have any visible wounds upon him.
- 41:00It's attacking Ibar, get your weapons, the monster is here.
- 41:07The bears roar came from outside the doors of the inn and the orc
- 41:11turned back towards the doorway he had entered from.
- 41:14Had the bear gone mad and attacked the orc?
- 41:17That couldn't be it. Jacole did not appear to be
- 41:20wounded despite the blood on his chest and hands, but something
- 41:24had been hurt, and by the amount of blood on the orc it had been
- 41:27a significant attack. Another roar cut through the
- 41:31night air, it was a clear challenge from the beast trying
- 41:35to claim its dominance. The bears roar was followed by
- 41:38another sound, a blood curdling howl that answered the beast
- 41:42challenge. Jacole Iron Bones turned and ran
- 41:47from the inn, a cold fear in his eyes as he rushed into the
- 41:50night. The Grain and Halvard followed
- 41:53him with their weapons ready. They expected to see the ice
- 41:56bear before them, crazed and ready for a fight, and perhaps
- 42:00caught in the trap they'd set. Even if the bear was not in
- 42:04their trap, the heroes knew that they would need to fight the
- 42:08beast they were ready to die protecting the people of
- 42:11Einsermar. Making their way outside of the
- 42:14inn, they did indeed see Jacol's white bear, but not as they'd
- 42:18expected. The massive ice bear was locked
- 42:21in a battle with something that was somehow even larger than it
- 42:24was. The bear's muzzle was torn and
- 42:27blood had turned much of its white fur red.
- 42:30The great bear roared, gaining pain and confusion as it
- 42:34grappled with its enemy. This beast was an apex predator,
- 42:38and nothing had ever truly challenged its dominance.
- 42:42But now it's struggled for survival as it looked into the
- 42:45green eyes of a creature that was stronger, more ferocious,
- 42:49and more dangerous than it was. The Tundra yelled as he rushed
- 42:56forward to help the bear. The monster before them brushed
- 43:01the orcas side without a second thought and then sunk its teeth
- 43:06into the side of the bear's neck.
- 43:08The wounded ice bear let out a sad whale and his grip on the
- 43:12opponent slowly relaxed as his body started to go limp.
- 43:16The grain gasped as the monster lifted up the entire massive
- 43:19weight of the bear and easily tossed at the side.
- 43:24The bear's body crashed into the icy landscape and slid a short
- 43:28distance before coming to a stop, blood seeping from its
- 43:32numerous wounds. It did not move any longer, and
- 43:36the grain and Halvard could not tell if it was breathing any
- 43:39longer. The heroes from the Castle of
- 43:43Four Sides looked in stunned silence at the answer to the
- 43:47question they had sought. What was attacking the people of
- 43:50Einsermann? Now they knew the answer, and
- 43:54they each held their breath as the monster turned to face them.
- 43:58They held their breaths as they looked into the wolf like eyes
- 44:01of the towering nightmare. It's terrible.
- 44:04Blood soaked teeth bared in a vicious snarl.
- 44:07The monster reared its head back, let out a howl of
- 44:10challenge. Once again, the horror of Einsa
- 44:14Marl had returned. Horror of Isomol Part 7 Garmi
- 44:47The ancient sagas of the Northlands tell of a monstrous
- 44:51creature known as Fenrikin, towering beasts said to be the
- 44:54offspring of the Great Wall. There has not been a confirmed
- 44:57sighting of one of these creatures in mythos in ages, and
- 45:01their existence were deemed the stuff of fiction long ago.
- 45:04As Ukraine Halvard and the surviving residents of Einsermal
- 45:08looked out across the frozen landscape before them, they
- 45:11realized that the stories of these monsters were not fiction
- 45:15at all. The Fenrikin existed, and one
- 45:18had come to hunt in the colds of Einsermal.
- 45:22Commander Grain and Halvard of Frothfar gripped their weapons
- 45:25and planted their feet, preparing for the assault they
- 45:28knew was coming. The beasts before them stood
- 45:31well over 9 feet tall. It's body was thick with
- 45:34powerful muscles and covered in grey fur.
- 45:37It was clad in strange armor with chains hanging off in many
- 45:40places, including the pair of large shackles that covered its
- 45:44lower arms. The armor was gouged and broken
- 45:47in places, and the chains were snapped.
- 45:50At a glance, it was clear that they were the same kind of
- 45:53chains that Boris had shown them earlier, chains that seemed to
- 45:56suggest that this monster had been a captive at some point.
- 46:00Those broken restraints suggested that it had escaped
- 46:02its captor, fleeing whoever had once bound it.
- 46:06The wolf had somehow made its way to find some hole.
- 46:09Is it from the brood? Alvard said to a grain.
- 46:12It's belt look. Igrain noticed the emblem on the
- 46:15Fenrikun's waist. It was a vampiric sigil and the
- 46:19markings on the beast's armour also had a broodish feel to
- 46:22them, but unlike any the Tigrain had even seen on Elythia's
- 46:26faction. The vampires had been soundly
- 46:28defeated during the Second Great War and their vampiric mother
- 46:31had been killed. Or had she?
- 46:34It had been nearly 10 years since the Dark Four had fallen
- 46:37and whatever remained of the brood had been silent all these
- 46:39years. But looking at the motifs on the
- 46:42armour of the wolf like creature before her now, the grain
- 46:45questioned whether the vampiric threat had really been defeated,
- 46:48or if it had perhaps gone into hiding in the coldest places of
- 46:51the realm. The Fenrikin howled and drew a
- 46:54large Obsidian sword. The black blade glistened in the
- 46:58moonlight, and the beast bared its cavernous mouth of teeth,
- 47:02ready to tear into whomever stood in this monster's way.
- 47:05Here it comes. Alvard said.
- 47:08As the beast charged, the wolf swung its black bladed sword and
- 47:13Halvard used his shield to block the blade.
- 47:16The force of the attack was incredible and Halvard nearly
- 47:19lost his footing, but he held strong and pushing the sword
- 47:23away with his shield. The phone Rakim was focused on
- 47:26Halvard and so Igrain used the beast's distraction to find an
- 47:30opening to attack. Her broadsword sliced deeply
- 47:33into the monster's leg and it roared in pain and surprise.
- 47:37Turning towards a grain, it lashed out with a wicked claw.
- 47:41The grain could not believe the beast's speed, and she had just
- 47:45enough time to turn so that her shoulder armour caught the brunt
- 47:48of the blow. The monster's claw raked across
- 47:50her armour. While that armour did its duty
- 47:53and protected the grain, the force of the attack knocked her
- 47:56off her feet and threw her back across the ice. 2 of Eins and
- 48:00Mull's hunters leaped to attack next, but the wolf mowed them
- 48:04both down with a single swing of his sword.
- 48:07The blade tore through the hunters, spraying an arc of
- 48:11blood across the front of the inn as their bodies felt
- 48:14lifeless to the snow. Halvard let out a battle cry as
- 48:17he threw his axe at the beast. The blade clanged harmlessly off
- 48:21of its black armor and the weapon flew away, far from
- 48:24Halvard's reach. The wolf attacked Halvard once
- 48:27again, and the barbarian held his shield out before him to
- 48:31deflect the torrent of blows. The wood of his shield began to
- 48:34splinter, and Halvard knew that it would fail him soon, leaving
- 48:38him defenceless against the monsters at the maps.
- 48:41Wolf Beast. Called the known innkeeper, who
- 48:44rushed out into the night. The monster turned to the sound
- 48:48just in time to see the gnome toss a bottle towards him.
- 48:52Instinctively, the monster swiped at the projectile headed
- 48:54his way, shattering it before he could touch him.
- 48:58As the glass bottle broke, the liquid inside sprayed across the
- 49:02beast, soaking into its fur and dripping from its armour.
- 49:06Quick. Boris yelled as he looked at the
- 49:08grain. Throw a torch at it, set it on
- 49:11fire. Grain did not have to be told
- 49:13twice. She grabbed a torch from outside
- 49:16the end and hold it towards the wall.
- 49:18Once again, the monster swatted at the projectile and the flames
- 49:22of the torch exploded in a shower of embers, igniting the
- 49:25liquid that dripped from the creature's body.
- 49:28The wolf let out a howl of surprise and pain as flames
- 49:31raced up his chest and arm. It dropped the Obsidian blade
- 49:35and tried to batter the flames to extinguish them, but the
- 49:39bottle that Boris had thrown was filled with pure no mish mean
- 49:42shine, and there were few substances in mythos more
- 49:45flammable than that. Howling in anger and pain, the
- 49:49wolf turned and bolted away, the flames still trailing off its
- 49:53body as it disappeared into the night.
- 49:55Hurry. Boris called.
- 49:58Into the inn. It will be back soon.
- 50:01We need to block the door. Everyone poured into the
- 50:04Einsermalin in public house. Alvard and a few other men began
- 50:08to move tables and chairs against the doorway to reinforce
- 50:12it against the beast that they knew would soon return.
- 50:15Cries of fear and anguish could be heard in the inn, for the
- 50:18horror that had come to Einsermal was so much worse than
- 50:22the town's folk had ever imagined.
- 50:25They were strong, hard people in the far north, but the sight of
- 50:29the Fenrikin broke them. The innkeeper's wife tried to
- 50:33calm those who are most distraught.
- 50:35Bring them upstairs, Burris said.
- 50:37Only those who can fight should stay down here.
- 50:40If the beast gets in, we will try at least to keep it away
- 50:43from the upstairs rooms. Berla Burger Story nodded and
- 50:47ushered dozens into the upper level of the inn.
- 50:49Only a handful of the town's residents remained on the ground
- 50:52floor. They held weapons in their
- 50:54hands, but the fear was clear in their eyes and in their heavy
- 50:57laboured breathing. Speak true.
- 51:00Can we kill it? Igrain asked Halvard.
- 51:03She had lost her sword outside and instead had found a large
- 51:06warhammer that she lifted with both hands.
- 51:09She'd retrieved her helmet from her pack and placed it on her
- 51:13head, ready for the next assault.
- 51:15I don't know. Alvard admitted.
- 51:17He also put on his helmet. The chainmail of the helm
- 51:20covered his lower face as he drew a short sword from the side
- 51:23of his belt. He still held his shield and he
- 51:27gripped that as well. Allow.
- 51:30Bang knocked at the insurance door.
- 51:32Let me in. Called a deep voice.
- 51:35Open up. It's.
- 51:36Jacol. Burris commanded.
- 51:38Quick, open the door, let him in.
- 51:41The men began to dismantle the barrier they'd constructed so
- 51:44they could open the door. Once they had done so, the
- 51:47Tundra Org flew inside the room. Where is the bear?
- 51:50Alvard asked. Dead.
- 51:52Wounded but not dead escaped, the Org replied as he helped
- 51:57rebuild the barricade. The work was completed just in
- 52:01time as the door began to rattle with Thunderous.
- 52:04The Fennecam was back, desperately wanted to get
- 52:08inside. Alvard, Jacole and a dozen
- 52:10others pressed themselves against the makeshift blockade
- 52:13to reinforce it against the attack of the howling monster.
- 52:16On the other side of the doorway, Byla Frost Furred
- 52:19jumped upon the bar, his small sword drawn as he sniffed the
- 52:23air, looked about the room. He's moving.
- 52:26The tracker called Listen. There.
- 52:28The attack at the door had indeed ceased and the room was
- 52:31silent as everyone listened. Is there another way inside the
- 52:36grain Asbury? Two other doors.
- 52:38The no replied. But one is a hatchway that is
- 52:41buried on the ice right now and the other is in the store rooms
- 52:45and blocked by piles of debris. We boarded up all the windows
- 52:49and secured them after the third attack the.
- 52:51Windows began to rattle and shake as the Fenrikin tested
- 52:55each one, trying to find a way inside.
- 52:58The inhabitants of the inn listened as the monster crept
- 53:01outside. All would be silent for the time
- 53:04before violent shaking would rattle as the beast tried to
- 53:07break in again. How long were those windows
- 53:10hold? Igrain asked.
- 53:12They're strong, but eventually that thing will find a way in.
- 53:16Alvard said. The door began to rattle once
- 53:19again as pounding blows rang upon him.
- 53:21The wolf moved back to the entrance and now was hacking
- 53:24away thick wood with its obscene blade, chopping into the door
- 53:28and splintering it with each blow.
- 53:31Get ready. Alvard called.
- 53:33We stand against great evil on this day, knowing that our lives
- 53:37have been lived well and our ends shall be the stuff of which
- 53:40the tales of honour and duty are.
- 53:42Written, the tundra orc repeatedly slammed his bone club
- 53:45against his shoulder armour and ruled an appreciation of
- 53:48Halvard's worth. A Grain gripped her hammer and
- 53:52Baila prepared to pounce upon whatever to be in.
- 53:55Even the mare of Einsermole was armed and ready to defend his
- 53:58home, pickaxe gripped tightly in his small hands.
- 54:03Suddenly the rattling at the door stopped and it all went
- 54:06quiet once again. Is he going back to the windows?
- 54:11Grain asked. No.
- 54:13Byler replied as he sniffed the air, confusion on his face.
- 54:17Something else is up there. The wolf let out another
- 54:20terrible howl. It was a challenge similar to
- 54:23how he called out a challenge to the ice bear earlier that night.
- 54:27Who's the bear back? Alvard asked.
- 54:29He may be, the orc said, but in certainty was clear in his
- 54:33voice. Each Bjorn has never been
- 54:35beaten. He may have come back to fight
- 54:37again. We need to see what's happening
- 54:40out there, one of the men of Einsermoll said.
- 54:42Open the door. Do not open that doorway, Igrain
- 54:46commanded. Whatever has come to challenge
- 54:48the wolf, we cannot risk opening that door.
- 54:51These were hard words for a grain to say for the warrior and
- 54:54her wanted nothing more than to rush into the night and engage
- 54:57the beast in battle once again. But she was more than a soldier
- 55:01now. She was a commander, and every
- 55:04life in that inn was hers to defend.
- 55:06The best way she could do so was by keeping that door closed.
- 55:10Let me see what I can see. Boris said as he tried to peek
- 55:13out of the crack in the side of the doorway.
- 55:16He'd wedged his small body between the barricade and was
- 55:18trying to catch a glimpse of what was happening outside
- 55:21without opening the door. I cannot see clearly, but I do
- 55:25see shapes moving bodies. Perhaps there are many of them.
- 55:30I do not think it is the bear. I think something else is
- 55:34fighting the monster. What else could be out there?
- 55:36Alvard asked Byler. I do not know.
- 55:40Tracker. Replied spells are not ones I
- 55:43know, and sounds are so quiet all I can sense for sure is the
- 55:47wolf beast. He's mad.
- 55:49The sounds of struggle echoed in the night.
- 55:51Chains rattled and the wolf howled.
- 55:52But eventually all this climate points again.
- 55:55What do you see? Grain?
- 55:57Asked Boris. He was still trying to peek
- 55:59through the small crack in the doorway.
- 56:01Nothing. He replied.
- 56:03I can't see anything anymore. The wolf is gone.
- 56:07Isla finally announced. No more smells, all gone.
- 56:11Can we open the door then? Alvard asked.
- 56:14Is it safe? The tracker nodded and jumped
- 56:16down from the bar. The barricade was slowly removed
- 56:20from the front of the doorway as Five as clearly hesitant to
- 56:23dismantle their defences and head back into the cold where
- 56:25the wolf may still be prowling about.
- 56:28Eventually, the last table was shoved aside and the door was
- 56:31opened. Halvard was first to walk
- 56:33outside the inn, shield held out before him and a short sword in
- 56:37hand. A Grain followed with the Tundra
- 56:40Orc and the residents of EIN Somal, who had chosen to stand
- 56:42with them behind her. The door didn't have much left.
- 56:46Alvard said as he pointed at the front of the Inns door.
- 56:50The black blade was stuck deep into the wood and splinters were
- 56:53strewn about the snow in front of the doorway.
- 56:56The wolf's blows would have destroyed the door had something
- 56:58not interrupted its attack. Dawn had come and the sun was
- 57:06just starting to rise in the sky.
- 57:08They'd survived the night and the monster was nowhere to be
- 57:11seen. What is that?
- 57:15Igrain said. She spotted something across the
- 57:17ice at the edge of the settlement.
- 57:19Jacol made his way over to investigate and he retrieved the
- 57:22object. It's a large muzzle like
- 57:24contraption made of heavy iron with a pair of fangs protruding
- 57:28from the front, a large chain hanging from the middle of the
- 57:31muzzle. The beast had been a captive.
- 57:33Alvard said. That was clear from the chains
- 57:36that bore. Someone must have come back for
- 57:39it. Who in the creative name could
- 57:41have captured that monster? Igrain asked as she inspected
- 57:44the muzzle. What could possibly have
- 57:46defeated it? We tried, all of us together.
- 57:50We did nothing but make it angrier.
- 57:52He's gone, Viler confirmed. No more Wolf.
- 57:55Beast. For now, at least, but we need
- 57:57to know what had happened and if it had truly gone, Rain said.
- 58:01Until we know for certain, we won't know if these people are
- 58:04safe or if that thing will return.
- 58:07Can you track where it was taken?
- 58:10The Volpine tracker nodded. OK then.
- 58:13The grain said as she retrieved her sword from the snow where it
- 58:16had fallen. She looked at Halvard and her
- 58:19companion nodded his understanding of what she would
- 58:21command. She turned to the York next.
- 58:24Go find your bear. You her coming with us?
- 58:27Where are we going? Wherever the tracker leads us.
- 58:30The grain replied. We were sent here to discover
- 58:33what the horror of Einsomal is. We did that, now we're going to
- 58:38hunt it. Horror of Einsermar Part 8
- 59:10epilogue. The hunt had been on for three
- 59:13full days. The Volpine tracker, Baylor
- 59:16Frost Fir, led the way, with Commander Igrain and Halvardar
- 59:20Frothvar close behind. The Tundra Hawk and his Iceberg
- 59:24guarded the rear of the hunting party.
- 59:27Even the gnomeish mayor of Einsomal had insisted on being
- 59:30part of a hunt for the Fenrikun monster who had terrorised his
- 59:34town and then mysteriously disappeared.
- 59:38He rode upon the bear's back, which was the only logical
- 59:41option since his short legs would have slowed down the
- 59:43others. The group had barely stopped to
- 59:46eat or sleep since they'd left Eyes.
- 59:49Finding the beast and ending the threat it posed carried them all
- 59:53forward and gave them the strength needed to push ahead.
- 59:57Do you still have the trail Train?
- 59:59Asked Byler as he sniffed the air.
- 1:00:02The tracker nodded That he did. It caught the centre of the
- 1:00:05wolf, like Fenrick in shortly after the second killing.
- 1:00:09But having never encountered one of the beasts before, had
- 1:00:12assumed that the wolfish scent belonged to one of the compacts
- 1:00:15that roamed the ice peaks of Einstein.
- 1:00:17Once he had seen the monstrous beasts for himself, he knew that
- 1:00:20he'd been wrong, and the scent was now impossible for him to
- 1:00:23miss. I can smell it, Viola said.
- 1:00:27It goes down under. Down.
- 1:00:31What do you mean? Alvard asked.
- 1:00:34I don't smell the wolf in front of us.
- 1:00:37The tracker. Answered.
- 1:00:38I smell it under the ice, under our feet.
- 1:00:42Ah, the cracker has lost the trail, Jacob barked.
- 1:00:46I have not. Viola said defensively.
- 1:00:49Look at the bear, he knows. He's beyond The bear was
- 1:00:52sniffing the ground, and it began to pour at something that
- 1:00:55it clearly sensed under the ice. Is there something down there?
- 1:01:00Grain asked. The words barely left her mouth
- 1:01:03when the world around them began to shake.
- 1:01:05Hold on. Halvard cried as the thunderous
- 1:01:08raw record in the air and waves of snow and ice topping from
- 1:01:11mountain peaks. Jacole caught forests that only
- 1:01:14fell from the bear's back, and both the Grain and Halvard took
- 1:01:17a knee to steady themselves. Thankfully they were in the open
- 1:01:21of the ice shelf and not in the shadows of the mountain, so The
- 1:01:24Avalanches of snow that crashed down from Einsamol's highest
- 1:01:27peaks were not a threat to them. Those avalanches would
- 1:01:30absolutely make their way back to Einsamal, even halved,
- 1:01:33however, should they be able to find their way back at all.
- 1:01:38Another tremor shook the ice and the travelers fell to the
- 1:01:41ground. Began.
- 1:01:43Alvine yelled as a giant Fisher opened in the ice shelf and the
- 1:01:47Volpine tracker disappeared into the gaping more.
- 1:01:50We need to help him. The grain said as she tried to
- 1:01:53rise and run towards the Fisher, but a third tremor knocked her
- 1:01:57back down again. Suddenly, the shaking stopped.
- 1:02:01Everything was eerily quiet. Is he gone?
- 1:02:03Igrain asked as they raced towards the giant crack that had
- 1:02:06torn itself into the ice before them.
- 1:02:09Bailer, are you down there? Alvard yelled down into the
- 1:02:13crevasse. I'm here.
- 1:02:15Called a soft voice back. Are you safe?
- 1:02:18Igrain cooled down into the darkness.
- 1:02:21I'm safe. The tracker called back before
- 1:02:23adding. You need to come down and see
- 1:02:25this. It was decided that Igrain and
- 1:02:27Halvard would rappel down into the crevasse.
- 1:02:31A long rope was tied to the bear to provide them an anchor point.
- 1:02:34Jacol needed to stay behind to control the bear, and Boris
- 1:02:37simply wasn't strong enough for this task, his years of mining
- 1:02:41deep caverns long behind him now.
- 1:02:43Do not leave us here. Alvard said to the York.
- 1:02:47A few days ago they'd suspected Jekyll Iron Bones of being the
- 1:02:50killer of Einsermal. Today they were trusting him
- 1:02:53with their lives. You will not die by my hand, the
- 1:02:57Tundra Hawk replied. I will hold this rope for you
- 1:03:00and bring you up when you call. This is the word of Jacol, Iron
- 1:03:05Bones. Alvard nodded, satisfied with
- 1:03:07the Orcs promise. Down we go.
- 1:03:10He said as he and Igrain gripped the ropes and slowly made their
- 1:03:13way into the darkness beneath the ice.
- 1:03:16Keep coming. You're getting close.
- 1:03:18Came Byla's voice. The crevasse was deep, and it
- 1:03:21was a miracle that the tracker had fallen all this way without
- 1:03:24injury. Igrain felt her feet touch solid
- 1:03:27ground. Good.
- 1:03:29Pilot said. Now Alvard come next.
- 1:03:33Alvard touched down. The air was somehow a bit
- 1:03:36warmer, and they were no longer in pure darkness.
- 1:03:38He hadn't noticed it as they made their way down into the
- 1:03:41rift, but now that his feet had touched solid ground again, he
- 1:03:45realised that the air felt and smelled so much differently than
- 1:03:48it had on the surface. It was salt water.
- 1:03:52He was smelling the ocean. Alvard Grain said softly.
- 1:03:57Look. Alvard looked ahead and saw that
- 1:04:01they were in a very long and narrow cavern, and at the end of
- 1:04:05the cavern was an opening that was the source of the dim light
- 1:04:08that they were seeing. The opening was far away, but
- 1:04:11not so far. They couldn't see what lay
- 1:04:13beyond it. They saw the blue expanse of a
- 1:04:16great body of water. The smell of the wolf.
- 1:04:21Said Byla, pointing towards the end of the cavern.
- 1:04:24It goes that way and fades. The trio carefully made their
- 1:04:29way towards the end of the cavern, the light growing bright
- 1:04:32as they came closer and closer to the end.
- 1:04:35Finally, they stood upon the edge of the cavern, and what lay
- 1:04:38before them was not the vast ice sheet of Northlands, but deep
- 1:04:42blue stretch of the great sea. It was a hidden inlet of water
- 1:04:46that seemingly ran under the ice, emptying into the cold
- 1:04:49waves of a Bay that stretched further than they could see.
- 1:04:54The wolf is there. Bila said, pointing to receding
- 1:04:57shape on the horizon. A great black ship.
- 1:05:01Blood red Sails slowly sailed away, its form moving further
- 1:05:06and further away until it was little more than a dot on the
- 1:05:09horizon. Who are they?
- 1:05:12Grain asked. And where are they going?
- 1:05:14Bila shook his head. I do not know, he replied.
- 1:05:19There are no ports around here. Around here shouldn't even be
- 1:05:22here, this is new. Have you ever been this far away
- 1:05:26from the town? Alvard asked.
- 1:05:29The tracker nodded. 1. He said.
- 1:05:33And this was not here, this water.
- 1:05:37Biola shook his head. Just ice.
- 1:05:40He replied. This ice stretches and stretches
- 1:05:43to a Cliff, but not water below, just more ice and more snow.
- 1:05:47This was under the ice, the grain said, looking at the
- 1:05:50expanse of sea before them, hidden away somehow.
- 1:05:54Not he didn't, Isla said. Not here.
- 1:05:57Smells were different this time. This is new, I tell you.
- 1:06:00This is new. The Grain thought for a moment
- 1:06:03before speaking again. Remember.
- 1:06:06What as a? Spirit Bender said in the
- 1:06:07audience chamber at the castle. She asked as she looked at
- 1:06:10Halvard. She said that the convocation
- 1:06:13had detected some kind of anomaly here in the north.
- 1:06:17Could this be it A. Hidden cavern under the ice
- 1:06:20leading to an unknown Bay that dumps out into the sea.
- 1:06:23Halvard said. You think that is the
- 1:06:25strangeness that the spirit Bender spoke of?
- 1:06:28Perhaps, Igrain replied. Look at this sea.
- 1:06:31What sea is this? Have you ever seen a body of
- 1:06:34water like this on a map of the Northlands?
- 1:06:37I have not, and I've looked at many a map of mythos.
- 1:06:41Tracker is right. Should not be here.
- 1:06:44Alvord, where are we? Alvord shook his head.
- 1:06:48He did not have any answers. The Fenrikin was gone, a fairy
- 1:06:52tale nightmare proven to be all too real, which left a bloody
- 1:06:56mark on the ice of the Northlands.
- 1:06:58Still, while the monster may have disappeared, something told
- 1:07:02Halvard that this was just the beginning of the troubles the
- 1:07:05heroes of Mythos would soon fate, and that those troubles
- 1:07:08would stretch far beyond the frozen peaks.
- 1:07:10Find some more.
