- 0:05Now, there were places like these, cities. They were called cities.
- 0:08Now, there's lots of them. City, city.
- 0:10And they had the knowing of a lot of things. They did. They had skyscrapers
- 0:14and videos, and they had Sonic.
- 0:16I had a Sonic. But then this happened.
- 0:21This pocky clips happened, and it's all finished. It just isn't there anymore.
- 0:26So you've got to understand that this is home, and there's no tomorrow land.
- 0:31And I ain't Captain Walker.
- 0:35Kieran's on the laughing gas again I guess he doesn't know what it is Okay Alright
- 0:40guys let's get this out of the way We're going to talk this piece of shit Beyond Thunderdome.
- 0:50What a fall from fucking grace I mean Oh my god I.
- 1:00Oh okay Okay. Anybody welcome to Citizen Frame?
- 1:05We're here to talk Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome. Or I like to call it Mad
- 1:10Max Beyond this pile of shit.
- 1:13Mad Max Beyond Lord of the Flies meets Kindergarten Cop.
- 1:17Well, let's piggyback on Lord of the Flies there.
- 1:21So we talked about in the last podcast with the road warrior,
- 1:25where the fuck was George Miller, right? He's no way he let this go. He did.
- 1:29George Miller sold out. Now, let's get this out of the way right now.
- 1:32This is the reason why he never revisited the franchise for a long time.
- 1:36And I get a lot of hate for this, but he sold himself out and he sold his baby. He sold it out.
- 1:41Now, he co-directed, which he did co-direct, by the way, with George Ogilvie.
- 1:46George Ogilvie was more of a playwright and theater guy.
- 1:49A multi-award winning, good on him. But clearly, I'm sorry, he's not really
- 1:53a film director, I guess you could say.
- 1:56Or a Mad Max director. director, and George Miller should be ashamed where this went.
- 2:02And what really pissed me off in researching this, and this is what really pissed me off.
- 2:07We talked about this a lot on this podcast.
- 2:10We just talked about with Aileen Romulus about how you always stick to the source
- 2:14material when you're doing a sequel of some sort, okay?
- 2:18And what this man has done to his own fucking source material,
- 2:22which even pisses me off.
- 2:23This is actually based on another script that was about a bunch of lost children
- 2:28in the middle of this wasteland.
- 2:31And kind of like lord of the flies and the
- 2:34hero comes from the from this from the dunes just
- 2:38to bring them justice and to raise them and help
- 2:40them that's not this is not this is not a mad max
- 2:43film all right this was just some crap throw
- 2:46your boy your mad max character into this shame on
- 2:49that's quite the rant kieran but i sort of agree with
- 2:52a lot of it i have to say yeah it is very
- 2:56disappointing i watched this on video back in the
- 2:58day like most of the films i watched and it's by
- 3:01far the weakest of it doesn't feel there's
- 3:04so much of it does not feel like a mad
- 3:07max film i mean you compare this to the road warrior it's day and night even
- 3:12the character of max is doesn't feel like max here and it's yeah it's the stuff
- 3:19that it's become this is mad max becoming mainstream apparently george miller
- 3:23was basically funded for this or so that he could
- 3:26give away the rights to direct and contact,
- 3:29which wasn't made until like the 1990s, like over 10 years later.
- 3:33But this is not... And not by Miller. It was made by Robert DeMex. Yes, he sold away.
- 3:38He originally had the rights to make it, but he sold off his rights.
- 3:41And part of the deal for him selling off, for Miller selling off his rights,
- 3:45was that he would get Mad Max 2 and Mad Max 3 made. What happened in between?
- 3:50The plot has been completely lost. Yes, apparently that was his own story idea,
- 3:54like a lord of the flies type bunch of kids
- 3:57well anyway no matter what's happened in between what
- 4:00we did get is a mad max goes mainstream which
- 4:04it should never ever do and i
- 4:06know you could argue that fury road and furiosa are mainstream sort of blockbusters
- 4:10but certainly with the original series especially when you compare to the first
- 4:14two it should never go mainstream and whenever the kids appear yes the stuff
- 4:18in barter town is it's possible and it's reasonably enjoyable and And it does feel Mad Max-esque.
- 4:25But whenever the kids come into it, it's, whoa, this is fucking Mad Max Does Disney. And...
- 4:32Not only that, the kids are deeply annoying, and to talk in this stupid way, I get it.
- 4:36It actually makes sense that the kids would talk, you know, their language would be underdeveloped.
- 4:42Actually, if you watch the apocalyptic, very serious apocalyptic British film,
- 4:46Threads, that's touched on there, and it's like deeply depressing, brilliant film.
- 4:50But, so that does make sense. But the way they talk about Mar-a-Mar-a-land,
- 4:54and, you know, all this here, and, you know, it's just, it just grates on you big time.
- 5:00So there's my rant. I always like to start off with It wouldn't be a Mad Max
- 5:04film Without these title characters But why do I care now,
- 5:10But yes we got Max Auntie Entity Jebediah, Jebediah Jr The Master,
- 5:17The Blaster Iron Bar, Pig Killer, Blackfinger Dr.
- 5:21Dealgood and Tun Tun Tattoo Did you notice who's playing Sorry I just had to
- 5:26jump in Did you notice who's playing Iron Bar,
- 5:29Don't care Well you should because it is
- 5:32none other than angry anderson the australian
- 5:35rock sort of pop singer who very
- 5:38famously back in the 80s recorded a power ballad called suddenly that was used
- 5:45in a very iconic episode of australian soap opera neighbors when scott and charlene
- 5:50played by kylie minogue got married so there you go and every single thing i said there is true.
- 5:58I just want to end my life. Angry others. I just want to end my life. Iron bar.
- 6:06This is soul destroying. Is it as soul destroying as the film itself?
- 6:11So before I was interrupted, we also have Savannah Nix and a bunch of fucking children.
- 6:17Kindergarten cop. So what?
- 6:20Kindergarten cop. Matt Max does kindergarten cop. The kids.
- 6:24There's nothing to a kindergarten cop. I'm talking about the annoying kids.
- 6:27You know, this movie's terrible.
- 6:30And you already pissed me off because we discussed this. We're talking about the road warrior.
- 6:36And you had the gyro captain, right? And how he was almost like a Jesus figure to Max.
- 6:43You know, it's a really good character. So how do you play it?
- 6:47If you thank that character, how do you do that? I have an idea.
- 6:52Why don't you cast the same actor, but this time make him a fucking dick?
- 6:57And have him stealing to just pretty much destroy everything Max has. From the start?
- 7:01How does that sound? Do you want to do that? It is a different character. And hey, you know what?
- 7:07Why don't we give him a plane too? Why don't we do that?
- 7:11So why don't we really fuck everything that they wrote and went on the Road
- 7:15Warrior with the gyro captain and just throw it all out the window and give us this assh**le?
- 7:21Why don't we do that? It's not only that. it is very confusing because
- 7:24you're watching this for the first time you're assuming that this is the gyro
- 7:28captain so you're thinking yourself why don't they know each other him and max
- 7:32and also why has the gyro captain become an asshole but then it's not till well
- 7:37many years later that i found out that it's actually a completely different
- 7:40character but played by the same actor who's also a pilot,
- 7:44Yeah, it's terrible. Not good. It's terrible. And also what's even more confusing
- 7:48as well is he has a kid with blonde hair who looks like his girlfriend that he got in the second one.
- 7:54So you're sort of thinking, oh, I've had a child, you know? And it's just, yeah, it jars.
- 8:00Yeah, it's... Wow. What's with the hair?
- 8:05I know. What the fuck is with the hair, man? Well, this is the thing as well
- 8:08that I was sort of thinking when watching this.
- 8:11With Mad Max, he has a big, you know, long wig. he's got
- 8:14long hair but yet because obviously he hasn't had time to get his hair cut but
- 8:18yet he's had time to have a shave because he doesn't have a beard you know no
- 8:23so yeah so he goes back to he goes to barter town to try to find his things
- 8:31that this asshole has sold on him,
- 8:34and he gets in arguments and fights hey do you see the crossbow yes where's his yeah Yep.
- 8:41What is this crossbow? Yeah, the hand crossbow thing. Whatever he's handing
- 8:43it in. Oh, he has to turn it in.
- 8:44Yeah. There you go. There you go. That was neat. Yep, yep.
- 8:48There's other touches like guns from... No, there's no other touches.
- 8:52No, there is actually when he's handing in the weapons.
- 8:54I was being sarcastic. Yeah, when he's handing in the weapons,
- 8:57there's also the gun of, you know, the creepy guy who was Toe Cutter's right-hand
- 9:01man in the first one with the blonde hair.
- 9:04There's his weapon as well. The Maxar obviously got off him.
- 9:08Well, I mean, actually, you know how that makes sense. You know why?
- 9:11Because you're pretty much giving away all that's decent and left of the Mad Max series.
- 9:17You might as well just hand it over. Here you go. Yeah. We're in different territory now.
- 9:24Yeah, we're going to go to a PG-13 Tina Turner video instead.
- 9:28Yep. And there's even a saxophone reference up on her boudoir. Yeah.
- 9:35Let's talk about the Cassie and Tina. First of all, let's get this straight.
- 9:38I like, we don't need another hero. I actually like Private Dancer.
- 9:41I like Tina Turner, period.
- 9:43This was more, this was made because she was making a huge comeback at this
- 9:49time after going through all the shit she did with her fucking piece of shit ex. Ike Turner.
- 9:55And yeah, what he did to her and all. So she was making a huge comeback and
- 9:59I, nothing about, I respect that.
- 10:01That but to put this in a max film
- 10:04is so destroying it's just it makes no sense
- 10:07and this was an mtg
- 10:10this was when mtv was it was maxi making
- 10:13videos this is in its prime and
- 10:16this video has played everywhere and it
- 10:21was just pretty much a marketing promotion
- 10:24a promotional tool to get tina turner back on
- 10:27the market and i tell you
- 10:30right now mad mad max mel gibson
- 10:33does not look like he wants to be nowhere and yeah
- 10:36and i mean the character's pretty grumpy anyway but yes you can sort of tell
- 10:40that gibson's heart really doesn't seem to be in it this is corporate mad max
- 10:44and mad max don't give a shit you can sit there and call and mad max does not
- 10:50belong in the mainstream corporate world that goes back to what you're saying about mtv music
- 10:55videos and stuff like that and Mad Max is but certainly the first two at very
- 11:00least is low budget exploitation gritty raw this is Disneyfied Disneyfied nonsense.
- 11:10Yeah, but that's George Miller's fault. Yes, ultimately. Nobody else. Yeah.
- 11:15No, it is. He sold out, period.
- 11:22So, yeah, so we get the villain. I can't believe I'm saying she's a villain.
- 11:27There's really no villains here. I would say that Tina Turner herself isn't,
- 11:32she's quite possible in the acting role, but she doesn't belong here.
- 11:36She's clean cut. She's good looking. She's clean. She's confident.
- 11:40Yeah, it doesn't belong here And neither does the character role Maybe if the
- 11:46character was played in a different way And looked in a different way It might
- 11:50work It would have been better if she was like The guardian mother of the children,
- 11:56And he's there to help them Because of big questions about that I got a lot
- 12:00of questions Especially Where did they appear from?
- 12:03It suggests that there was a plane crash Was it just children on the plane?
- 12:08This yeah well we'll get
- 12:11there let's just hurry up i would say you
- 12:14know the no no you're jumping is no this is
- 12:17no i know i'm talking about master the wee guy who plays master is actually
- 12:24one of the actors from freaks no from freaks the highly controversial todd browning
- 12:321932 horror film that It ended Todd Browning's career.
- 12:35A great film it is too, very powerful. But he's in that.
- 12:39There you go. Sounds like, that's okay. That's a reference people might enjoy.
- 12:45Or like Angry Anderson. Angry Kieran. I'll give you that one. Fuck. Fuck me.
- 12:52Let's get this done. All right, so he wants to get his shit back,
- 12:55but in order to get his shit back, he's got to fight the biodome.
- 12:57Sorry, the dung dome, right?
- 12:58But the thing is that the anti-entity wants rid of Master Blaster because Master
- 13:05Blaster has covertly taken control of Bordertown because he runs the methane farm.
- 13:12It's basically pig shit that fuels it. Yeah.
- 13:16So she wants rid of Master Blaster and to do that, she wants to get him to kill him.
- 13:21Yeah, so Max is going to fight both. Yeah, you kill one, you kill the both or whatever.
- 13:26Now, I'm going to give a compliment. Go ahead.
- 13:30This is my compliment. This is pretty nice of me, people. Pretty nice. Pretty fucking nice.
- 13:36I do like the Thunderdome. Yes, so do I.
- 13:39I actually rather enjoy it. And not because it's not overly violent.
- 13:43It's kind of fun to watch.
- 13:45Mad Max was losing, which I kind of like. Like, but mainly why I like it is
- 13:50the reveal of who this big giant is.
- 13:53And I like the fact he takes the mask off and Max's look at, looks right at him.
- 14:00And it's a clearly a man who has learning disabilities. Down syndrome.
- 14:05And it looks like he has Down syndrome. Correct.
- 14:09And, and Max won't kill him. And right there, he broke the rules.
- 14:13That's why he's getting, he's going to get, you know, the wheel.
- 14:16And what I liked about that whole sequence was it, the movie sells out completely,
- 14:23but it doesn't sell out on this.
- 14:25So it's what pisses me off. You have potential, especially with this whole barter
- 14:29town, you really could have worked with this a bit, and this is,
- 14:32should have been the primary focus.
- 14:35Of barter town, but, and it is gritty and kind of raw and it could be creepy.
- 14:40You can see where, um, Miller then went on to create the Citadel,
- 14:42you know, cause there's similarities to this in the Citadel,
- 14:44you know, Bernard Fowler farm and stuff in the Fury Road and stuff that came later. Yeah.
- 14:50Yeah, and then the sequence when he refused to kill him, obviously he won't do it, they kill him.
- 15:01They use crossbows on him and kill this big giant who doesn't know much.
- 15:06And it's a pretty brutal scene, actually. And it's a scene that we should have
- 15:11seen more of in this film because it is, at the end of the day,
- 15:15supposed to be a Mad Max film.
- 15:17And I think that's what pisses me off so much because of the fact there's these
- 15:21glimpses here. Why aren't we going this route?
- 15:24Why are you doing this? Please stop what you're doing.
- 15:27Because once Max leaves here, it's downhill. Yes. And I'm talking,
- 15:32it's a fucking tumble. Yeah.
- 15:34You got this, because he broke the rules, he has to be, he has to go to the wheel.
- 15:41And I like this concept. He really could have played with this too.
- 15:44This wheel has this big spinning wheel, metal disc, and it's got several consequences on it.
- 15:49Obviously, the one you land on is what's going to happen to you.
- 15:52There's death, hard labor, acquittal, the gulag, auntie's choice,
- 15:58spin again, I like that one, forfeit goods, underworld, amputation, life imprisonment.
- 16:04I mean, that's pretty cool shit.
- 16:08And he obviously gets the gulag where he gets- Well, here's the thing.
- 16:11Gulag means it's like a work prison, but he's banished instead.
- 16:15Dead. So that doesn't make sense.
- 16:18That's what I was going to ask you. That means imprisonment.
- 16:20Why is he being thrown into the sand?
- 16:22Exactly. It doesn't make sense. The gulag, wouldn't that be exile?
- 16:26Well, yes, that's what I was thinking. So, you could be exiled to the gulag
- 16:30in old Soviet Russia, you know, but you were exiled to a gulag as a work prison.
- 16:37So it has, you know, hard labor.
- 16:40Yeah, I know. Why was it called It should have been exiled from Barter Town. He was exiled.
- 16:47He gets exiled here, but he doesn't get the gulag.
- 16:51And that's why they were going to feed another pretty dark scene.
- 16:56They were going to feed the master to the pigs.
- 17:01And then she stops them because she now lost Max, who would have taken over for him.
- 17:07But because he's been exiled now, they need him.
- 17:10Is that correct? It's also because the master's smart as well They need him
- 17:13for his brains So she's self-serving I took it more She was saving him Because
- 17:21she needs him for his brains.
- 17:23Why does Pig Killer release the monkey to give Max food?
- 17:27Because he sort of, well, he wants to escape himself, but he sort of is sort
- 17:31of friendly with Max and whenever Max meets him very briefly,
- 17:35you know, down in this sort of factory setting. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:38So he does that in hopes that Max will get his, you know, get his nutrition back.
- 17:43Possibly. His energy back and hopefully come back to get them out,
- 17:47like which he eventually does.
- 17:49Yeah, possibly, yeah. I like the Pig Killer, by the way. He's quite a good character,
- 17:52although he's underused.
- 17:54Yeah I mean that's the problem This is about 45 minutes into it Now once Max is exiled We're fucked,
- 18:02The film is exiled at this point Yeah it's terrible It's terrible Now we got these little fucking,
- 18:10Fucker nicks and all these little demon Bastards we gotta deal with now For the last fucking hour,
- 18:16Jesus help me You know what they do one thing right They do one thing right
- 18:20they cut Mel Gibson's Well, yeah, credit where credit's due I mean,
- 18:27but you know, that's a very minor point you know, compared to what we'll have
- 18:30to go through I hate the scene where they're given like the backstory of the
- 18:34apocalypse or what do they call something stupid like the apocalypse or something,
- 18:38I don't even know it's just cutesy Disney shit that doesn't belong a million
- 18:44miles away from here Mad Max.
- 18:47It's the Lost Boys from Peter Pan Yes, sir.
- 18:51And it's, I can't believe I just said that for a Mad Max film.
- 18:57They show him the slides, you know, the little slide projectors we had when
- 19:01we were kids and all that. And there's a slide of a city.
- 19:04And that's when there are hopes. And he thinks he's this big tall stranger.
- 19:07He's going to bring them there.
- 19:08And he says, no, there's no hope. And he throws the picture in the air.
- 19:12But as he does it, this wind starts picking up.
- 19:16And did the wind reveal a fucking plane? I don't get this. And the slide,
- 19:21possibly, you know, there was plans, but no, no, no, no, no,
- 19:25no, no, you don't get what I'm saying.
- 19:27He has the slide of, they saw him, of a city.
- 19:31And he says, yes, there was one cities and it had everything, but those are gone now.
- 19:36You're living on a pipe dream, blah, blah, blah, blah. You have a better world here.
- 19:40And he throws up a slide to toss it away. way but all of a sudden this big wind almost like God is.
- 19:48Causing this little windstorm and they all run out with the wind and then there's a plane did the wind?
- 19:56No no I think it's just a metaphor I think they're trying to be poetic or something
- 19:59no they knew about the plane my impression was the plane that's Christ in the
- 20:03sand is the plane that they were originally on when they were very young,
- 20:07presumably it was some sort of school trip or whatever but for some reason there's no No adults.
- 20:12So it was just a plane, presumably with one adult pilot who died and the rest of them are all kids.
- 20:18But you know what? Again, more bullshit where they're highly creative and talented
- 20:22kids where they can make a whole community of swings and, you know, all sorts.
- 20:26So it's just, it doesn't make sense.
- 20:29Well, the story is there's a man called Captain Walker and the other adults
- 20:35left their tribe to search for better land.
- 20:38And they said they told the children they will return, leaving Nix in charge.
- 20:43The remaining tribe members share stories about Captain Walker and talking about
- 20:49stories. Okay, well that makes more sense.
- 20:50Around the circle and it was called the tank.
- 20:55That's where, then that's who they think he is, is Captain Walker.
- 20:58Hard about, I mean, a lot of this is copy and paste from Mad Max 2 as well.
- 21:02I can't believe I just, I remember that and I actually was cracking that up.
- 21:05Well, I mean, that's fair enough, but a lot of this is copy and
- 21:07paste from bad max 2 as well but nowhere near as well realized
- 21:10but don't don't ever use that don't ever say what if it's maybe suggested that
- 21:16the kids are the kids of the community that max saved in the second one no because
- 21:24where's the plane yeah well fair enough well the gyro captain don't forget was
- 21:27a member of that community maybe he maybe he got a plane,
- 21:30it's a pretty big okay i'm just jumping that sort of theories here here there's
- 21:35another other fan theory.
- 21:37You know what, though? Here's the funny thing is, because you had the narration
- 21:41from the feral boy at the end of Road Warrior, we could have.
- 21:45They could have done something where Mad Max is found and it's by some of these
- 21:51kids, goes in, and then revealed there's Gyro Captain and there's the young
- 21:56lady and these are their kids or some of the members left.
- 22:01Because let's say, and instead of a fucking plane, you find the bus buried in
- 22:06the sand. and this is the land they built, that would have been a thousand times
- 22:11better. I agree, and it would have connected much better with the second one.
- 22:15And yeah. Because this doesn't connect at all. No, no, this is just random. He pawns off.
- 22:20He has to turn over a couple of weapons that some of the baddies had in the last couple.
- 22:24That's their, that's how it's relatable to the Max movies.
- 22:27Yeah, that's it. Really, you know, a couple of small references like that or
- 22:31a couple of times where he says I was a cop and, you know, that's about it.
- 22:34This feels like a different entity altogether anti-entity actually
- 22:38all together from the the previous two
- 22:41yeah it's and you
- 22:44know the kids they're sort of geniuses at making sort of
- 22:47cool communities and sort of all these sort of things you know that can the
- 22:51that can pull up the water and stuff and it's yeah yeah i hate the way they
- 22:56talk it's really annoying but yes it does make sense but it's still annoying
- 23:00and then half of them are gonna leave half and then so half of them chuck off. Yeah, for Mar-a-Lond.
- 23:07And Max goes, well, I'll go after him. Yeah. Because he's Max.
- 23:12He's a reluctant hero. And.
- 23:16I wish he was reluctant after he read the script. So, oh, fuck.
- 23:21So he decides and then this little fucking annoying little baby child,
- 23:26whatever the fuck it is, comes running after him.
- 23:30And the two others gotta go with Max to find the missing the rest of the fucking
- 23:35tribe, whatever the fuck they want to call him.
- 23:37Little fucking baby child. Hey, I'm going to come with you.
- 23:40And Max goes, he helps himself, meaning he's on his own. He's got to carry his own.
- 23:48And then the next shot, the baby child is on Max's shoulders.
- 23:52I know, it's inconsistent. I'm like, fuck me, here we go.
- 23:55And also, but just before this, whenever Savannah is talking about,
- 24:00you know, wanting Max to help them reach mario
- 24:03mario land he punches fuck he had sort
- 24:06of a punch and i'm like whoa that's a
- 24:09bit unexpected you know well she wouldn't shut up you know right yeah yeah but
- 24:17no because i think and then she's tied up i think what he was saying was rebellion
- 24:23within the group to save her from her so because he knows that she had escaped
- 24:26she would have ended up in barter town and she would It would have been wasted.
- 24:31And I'm going to tell you this right now.
- 24:34Where they're at right now is a lot better where they end up.
- 24:36Oh, that's what Max tells them?
- 24:38So, you know, but then whenever they actually leave for the desert,
- 24:41one of them ends up falling into the quicksand to try and raise attention,
- 24:45but really it's actually a relief. It's like, I don't give a shit.
- 24:48No, I was like, oh, please get the rest of them. Please, whoever's underneath the sand.
- 24:53I was hoping Boba Fett would get spat out. Yeah, exactly. The Sardoc pet.
- 24:58Yeah, start killing them. That would have been cool. Give us Boba Fett.
- 25:02That would have been neat. Yeah. So then they go to Barter Town.
- 25:06Oh, my God. So everything you built with Barter Town, you kind of had some fun
- 25:12characters. We talked about Pig Killer there.
- 25:14I like the guy who did the- It is what it is. We'll take it. We'll take it.
- 25:18You know, but it's just like, you know, Gastown, everything else will be introduced
- 25:24to. I like the host of Thunderdome himself.
- 25:26You know, the guy who's introducing them. So, you know. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:31But here's the problem now. not only do you fuck us once or fuck us twice,
- 25:40you're going to ram it hard to right up our asses with this part.
- 25:49And fuckers.
- 25:52So you built a barter town and you got, you know, sleazy pig shit and you got
- 25:59just dirt and grime and yada, yada.
- 26:01You sold it to us. You got the Thunderdome like, okay, I'll go with it.
- 26:05Right. For the little time we had there.
- 26:09Just fucked us by turning Barter Town into Mad Max meets the fucking Goonies.
- 26:18Yep, that's 100% what I was thinking.
- 26:20And now, now that is not an insult to Mad Max or the Goonies.
- 26:28Those are fucking great films as we know, but this is soul destroying.
- 26:33When they're playing in the slides and they're hee hee hee and they're.
- 26:37It's cringe worthy. it's humiliating thing i
- 26:40thought to myself was mad max does
- 26:43the goonies is especially with the slide and
- 26:46nonsense and then you've got that one of the kids you know the wee
- 26:49boy who's wearing all the war paint for some reason yeah and
- 26:52he's like smiling whenever he's you know like thwarted a bad guy i mean like
- 26:56angry anderson and it's just please stop this this is painful you would have
- 27:01sold me you would have had me back if you chucked that little fucker into the
- 27:05pigs well it would Would it have felt more like a Mad Max film? Yes.
- 27:11There's no peril in this film. There it is. That's perfect. There's no peril.
- 27:16Well, there's attempts at it, but it doesn't work.
- 27:18It's not pulled off. Well, they get away so easily. Yeah. I mean,
- 27:21Jesus, even Tina Turner's like,
- 27:22ah, all right. Yeah, they'll have the opportunity to kill him at the end.
- 27:26And yes, they'll go down the route of, yes, she respects him, the raggedy man.
- 27:31And it's just, yeah, it's just the direction here is flat.
- 27:36And that's the problem very flat and
- 27:39a couple with all this you know cutie kid
- 27:42stuff it doesn't belong in a Mad Max film this is like the antithesis of what
- 27:49a Mad Max film should be all this stuff in it yes the border town stuff is enjoyable
- 27:53I'll roam it you know because it still feels like it's in that world but once
- 27:58you leave border town the first time it's downhill fast.
- 28:03That's my point. You bring us back a second time, which we're all go,
- 28:05right, we're back here. Cool. And then you fucked us.
- 28:09Now, not only did you fuck us once, fuck us twice, fuck us three times later, you fuck us again.
- 28:20You finally give us the chase scene. Okay. You bring us back to Boratown. We're excited.
- 28:25No, we get the Goonies, you motherfuckers.
- 28:29Okay. They escape on a train. Oh, all right. Right? Color me impressed. I'm up for this.
- 28:36Alright, car's coming, chasing. He's got to stop him from getting to the train.
- 28:41You get me. I'm like, alright. The Mad Max chasing. We'll get at least a Mad Max chasing, right?
- 28:47Blow torches and crossbows and guns. Nope.
- 28:51We don't. They replace those weapons and I'm not kidding people with fucking pots and pans.
- 28:59Framhans. It's basically slapstick humor for children. it's
- 29:03like it's watching bob buster keaton it's
- 29:06like buster keaton or the keystone cops or bob and
- 29:09you know british comedy where it's people getting beat
- 29:12over the head with or basically even like old cartoons you know like tom and
- 29:17jerry people getting beat over the head yeah it's so destroying hands and you
- 29:23got and then you got the baddie guy and they're gonna do the same thing they
- 29:26do all mad max films head-on collision right so you got this fucking idiot who's in who's who's He's,
- 29:32he's lying on the cow catcher, part, part of a train. Yeah.
- 29:35And, and he gets, and they, they
- 29:38collide and it's a beautiful explosion actually. It's a nice collision.
- 29:42It, you can see all the parts flying. We'll, we'll go.
- 29:46Yet the fucker's still alive. He's just kind of brown because he got a little
- 29:49burn from the explosion. That's angry Anderson for you.
- 29:52This is just... Yeah, it's bad.
- 29:56This is bad. And also, just by chance, they bump into Poundland,
- 30:02Gerald Captain and his son again.
- 30:05And so then they fly off and they get to... Now, you know what I did like?
- 30:08I must admit, see the very final shots where they end up in Sydney.
- 30:13You see the Sydney Opera House, but it's supposed to be apocalyptic.
- 30:16You know what I mean? There's all the radiation in the air and stuff.
- 30:18I thought that they're very well-realized shots, but yeah, I mean,
- 30:21we're clutching our throes here compared to what we've just seen.
- 30:24So I don't understand. They're in a city that's empty.
- 30:28I don't know where they're getting their water from. Where do they get fuel
- 30:31from for the plane? It's a tiny plane to get to Sydney.
- 30:34Well, I like to explain how they got that many people in the plane in the first place. Hardest?
- 30:39Because of, but I don't understand why they would go there.
- 30:44There's nothing there. they had more resources in their little island because they're fucking idiots.
- 30:50And that's why and even you know I was going to say Mel Gibson Mad Max tells them this,
- 30:55you've got everything you need here but they want to go but there is a suggestion
- 30:59at the very very end whenever she's giving her a wee speech and she has a new
- 31:04child and stuff that they're going to rebuild society,
- 31:07but they never saw Max again exactly the same as Mad Max 2 but nowhere near as good,
- 31:12so yeah Yeah, that's what I was going to ask you, because it cuts back to the
- 31:17city, and they're watching, I don't know what the fuck they're doing,
- 31:20and they all have kids, so they're all just sitting there fucking.
- 31:24Well, I don't know, I mean, no, they all are kids. Because they multiply.
- 31:27I mean, these fuckers are rabbits, because there's like fucking all these demon
- 31:32spawns all over the place. There are a lot of leaps in logic here,
- 31:34but the only one who was pregnant was Savannah, even though Max punches her
- 31:39in the fucking face, while she's pregnant. Yeah.
- 31:43They've got a handful of kids she's popping them out pretty good and here's
- 31:48what I don't get I wonder what timeline they're on now because when they show
- 31:51us she's got like a little fucking screaming demon baby there around 8 months
- 31:55plus there's like 12 of them so I was just curious.
- 32:00Yeah but who's he sleeping I mean it's not creepy because they were children,
- 32:04but the older guy who was like he's
- 32:08basically like Peter Andre or some
- 32:11sort sort of australian male model you know what i mean um but
- 32:14there's basically two older i'd imagine
- 32:17savannah and this dipshit who i
- 32:20would imagine are about like 19 or 20 but the
- 32:23rest of them are all like primary school but you know that's another thing you
- 32:27know what i mean it's it's like they're obviously you know you know precocious
- 32:31little they don't look like they're surviving in a post-apocalyptic world they
- 32:36look like they've just time jumped in through the disney channel through one
- 32:40of their shitty programs,
- 32:41you know, with Britney Spears, presumably, or Christina Aguilera.
- 32:45Back then, it just, it reeks of non-authenticity.
- 32:52It's dedicated, sadly, to Brian Kennedy.
- 32:56Yeah, he passed. George Miller's right-hand man, producer for the last two.
- 33:00He died in a helicopter crash back in 83.
- 33:03And, you know, it's nice to see his name, at least. Yeah. Being recognized.
- 33:09Not forgotten, but it's sad it comes after this train wreck of a film.
- 33:18I have nothing really much to add. It's the worst Mad Max film by far.
- 33:23To me, I would even go further.
- 33:25I mean, dude, you go further than that. This is a bad movie,
- 33:28period. I would even go as far as saying, in my head, Canon,
- 33:31it's not even a Mad Max film.
- 33:35Not i would never watch this again i i know this movie
- 33:38never i i sadly i want it i've seen it a few times because
- 33:40it's in my best i have i have the i have the
- 33:43mad max box set the 4k box set so it's fucking stuck in there but i'll never
- 33:48to me the mad max films are one and two now fury road and furiosa are different
- 33:55entities all together to me anti-entities again no one would join but But to
- 34:00me, certainly with the original series,
- 34:02at very least, there's only two Mad Max films.
- 34:06Well, we'll dive into that a little further when we talk Fury Road next and then Furiosa.
- 34:13No, I still think Tom Hardy holds his own. He does. And passed the baton.
- 34:19So we'll get into that when we talk to Fury Road. Yeah, we'll argue about that.
- 34:25No big deal. We're going to end this one just because my soul is destroyed.
- 34:31And yeah. That's about it. That's all folks. All right, guys,
- 34:34listen, give us a shout at us, this is Fave underscore podcast on Instagram and of course Facebook.
- 34:38Yeah, there's a lot of swearing in this one, but I'm sure a lot of you will
- 34:42be nodding your head going, yep, you tell them Kieran, because this is completely
- 34:45right. This is terrible.
- 34:47And I actually think we made some good points. We are actually fair with it
- 34:50in the first half. You know, you had some good stuff there.
- 34:52We could work with it, but man, do you pull the rug underneath after that? Wow. Do you just. Yeah.
- 34:58Talk about kicking somebody when they're down. I wanted to go to Mar-a-Mar-a-Land
- 35:03after watching it again, but not with those little brats.
- 35:08I just wanted to go to post-apocalyptic Sydney on my own and just to get my head shard.
- 35:15Fucking weird comment. No, well, it's in time. It's a film. The film ends on
- 35:19post-apocalyptic Sydney. You see the opera house.
- 35:22So you do. Per Sydney. That's never coming back. It's just Trevor standing in
- 35:26the middle of it. Me and Angria Anderson. I'd listen to Angry Anderson Because I'd be angry at myself,
- 35:33Alright guys That's all I got Take care of yourselves Chat soon.
