- 0:01Do you know five is the air because show so many people blowing us up
- 0:04about this where there's a group of parents and officials that want to ban cell
- 0:08phones in the classroom. We're at school in Wait County as a mom.
- 0:12My kids are not old enough to have cell phones yet. But my son
- 0:14has a gizmo. But how do you fil it's a gizmo. It's like
- 0:17this little watch you pay ten dollars a month for and he can make emergency
- 0:20calls. But we can disable it during school hours, but we can also
- 0:24check out them where he has he is at all Timescha Okay, basically we
- 0:28can stalk them with that. I just feel like as long as the phones
- 0:32aren't out in class, like are they trying to ban it from being able
- 0:36to bring it to school? They just know phones during class, And I
- 0:39think right now it's like up to the school to make individual decisions, and
- 0:42that's tough because teachers already have their hands full, and so they're trying to
- 0:45make it a widespread Wait County thing. I mean, I I mean I
- 0:47came up through middle and high school having a cell phone and you just couldn't
- 0:51have it out. Yeah, I had a flip phone well, me too,
- 0:54had I had? I did in middle school? Yeah, and then
- 0:57in high school? Well school, you boogie. I have like the knockoff
- 1:00smartphone before. I had n iPhone when I was in high school, and
- 1:03you just couldn't have it out in class. I don't know why, Like,
- 1:07why would you need your phone out in class? Well, because kids
- 1:08are doing other things, and I get right, I shouldn't be. But
- 1:11as a mama, like I want to be able to reach my babies at
- 1:14any time or to make sure they're okay. No, because no, how
- 1:17we survived so many years without kids having cell phones in school. The old
- 1:21timer over there, I'm to say, why do you need to reach your
- 1:23kid when they're in Algebraill? What snow barefoot? What do you need to
- 1:26say to your kids when they're in algebra? What time you want to pick
- 1:30you up today? Or whatever it might be? Did you eat your lunch?
- 1:33I just want it for emergency purposes, honestly, just so I can
- 1:36reach them. I don't want this is hard to let them fly. So
- 1:38this isn't even like a student thing. This is a parent thing, Like
- 1:42I need to be able to reach my kid. That's a distraction. It's
- 1:44a distraction for the teachers. I say, no phones in class is a
- 1:48good thing. This is the one without kids nine one nine ain't six one
- 1:51o five one? How do you feel about this? Do you want to
- 1:53five? It's the air because show taking your opinions on Wake County possibly banning
- 1:57cell phones in the classroom are at school in general. A lot of parents
- 2:00are divided on it. Nine one nine eight six oh one oh five to
- 2:04one, Melissa, what do you think it is like a catch twenty two?
- 2:07It's like it's I think the children should have the phones in the case
- 2:10of an emergency. But then again, the phones can be a distraction exactly,
- 2:15a distraction for the other kids and for the teacher. You had one
- 2:19in middle school, you said, but not out in class you could not.
- 2:22Teachers did not want to see those phones, or they took them,
- 2:23and I understand. I appreciate that, but I still want my kid to
- 2:27have access to it in case they need to go. Backs to the Erica
- 2:30Show on G one oh five, big debate right now, parents and other
- 2:34leaders coming together. They want to ban cell phones in schools, among Wake
- 2:38County schools because they say it's a distraction for kids. Not only in the
- 2:40classroom, but also because they're not being social with other students. They are
- 2:44on social media on their phones instead of interacting with other people. Nine nine
- 2:47eight six oh one oh five to one. Jessica, what do you think
- 2:52of them trying to ban the phones in schools? I love it. I
- 2:54love it. I don't think our kids need any diction at all. We
- 3:01didn't have phones when we were in school, and I just I don't know.
- 3:06Anything happen to do with the phone is just stressing my daughter out so
- 3:08much. I just can't so I agree. Now. I did have a
- 3:13phone in middle in high school, but again it could not be out during
- 3:15class. And another reason why they want a ban, and this is school
- 3:19wide, is because they want kids to be more social with their other students
- 3:23in the school instead of being on social media during lunch and things like that.
- 3:25So they say school wide ban, and I don't know if I'm done
- 3:29for that.
