- 2:30In the bulletin Bought in the closet by my love. Fourfinger discount dude,
- 3:00welcome to four figure discount with this week, we're here to review I don't
- 3:02want to know why the cage bird sings. I am Dan and I'm joining
- 3:06right now by a man who was rubbing his hands together looking like he's ready
- 3:08to delve into and rip this episode to shreds. No, no surprise,
- 3:15I am guy. I'm running my hands together because it is cold in July.
- 3:19Yeah, I opened the windows before because jet WoT past? Why did
- 3:22you do walk past? Actually? Yes, thats like we love that dog,
- 3:28But stinker, he's actually be fine now. Yeah, he's changed his
- 3:30medications befo a while. We worked it out that he couldn't eat cheese,
- 3:34so that that's said to give the tablets of cheese. The news news goes,
- 3:38we've allays given him tables of cheese. And then we went to our
- 3:42defriend Michael Ball, and said, can we work out why I just caught
- 3:44him up? Why he's fasting here? And he goes, well, is
- 3:46he alleged to daring? I went, I don't know. He goes,
- 3:49what is he fine? After you give? Do you give him cheese or
- 3:51milk? I said, I'll give the leftover of my kids breakfast in the
- 3:53morning, So yes he does get milk, and yes I give him cheese
- 3:55with every time he has a tablet and he goes, yeah, be the
- 3:58cheese, So never do I givehim cheese. He ain't farting anymore because someone
- 4:01else may be alluded to cheese. Man, I'm going to miss cheese.
- 4:05Rub my hands together, yes, because of Cole and I don't intend to
- 4:10rip this. In New One, this was a just as they mentioned catch
- 4:14potato theater in this episode, this was an episode of perfectly fine theater.
- 4:16You know what it is, it's it's hard to rip anything in the shreds
- 4:18that involves Steve Amy. In my opinion, that is very correct. Let's
- 4:23give a shout out to our friend Steve Ami. And also let's give a
- 4:26what's the opposite of a shout out? A shout out? A throw down
- 4:29acknowledgment, a beatdown too. The person who punched step A Shemi in the
- 4:35face an actual in real life? Have you seen this? Have you heard
- 4:39about? This? Is this recent? This happened maybe last week or the
- 4:42week before. There is couldn't couldn't avoid the bug eyes or that's for Bargo
- 4:51Airli. There is something fundamentally broken with American society at the moment. If
- 5:00you go by social media, which you shouldn't do. But a lot of
- 5:03people in New York City are getting punched in the face. They're getting sucker
- 5:05punched or setting themselves on fire, or setting themselves on fire. But there's
- 5:09a lot of just random street assaults of people. So it also happened.
- 5:14It's happened to a few actors recently as well. Now, if you've appeared
- 5:16in a movie by the Coen Brothers recently, you might want to watch out
- 5:19because first actor Michael Strulbag, star of the Coen Brothers a series man other
- 5:27viewers might know him from the being Timothy Chalamaye's dad in Callen by Your Name.
- 5:31He was also in Doctor Strange got punch in the face. He was
- 5:35just walking along Marney's our business. Someone comes up punch him in the face.
- 5:40Not great, and their name is not Lenny and their name is not
- 5:43Lead. Well that would be in the back of the head though. But
- 5:47then someone recently just ran up the Steve as Shemi, a sixty six year
- 5:53old man's that could kill him, and punched him squaring the face. He
- 5:57could kill you any age. It killed you in any age, I mean,
- 6:00he says. Here a man charged with punching. Steve is held on
- 6:01fifty thousand dollars bond should be five hundred thousand. I'm sorry. There's just
- 6:06some national treasures you don't touch. This is Tom Hanks, Steve Amy,
- 6:10rober Mallins. God rest his soul would have been one of them. Let's
- 6:13just take a moment to sing the praises of Steve ASMI not only in this
- 6:15episode and another episode of the Simpsons. He's a petin films or Quentin Tarantino,
- 6:18Coen Brothers, Good Day Afternoon. That's the thumb fucking he voicecaded.
- 6:23That's Cino. He's pitting films by my man Able Ferrara. He was before
- 6:30he was an actor, or maybe while he was trying to make as an
- 6:32actor. He also worked as a volunteer fireman. He did in New York
- 6:35City, and when September eleven happened, he dragged out his gear and he
- 6:40went down to ground zero and he started helping out. That's Steve Amy.
- 6:43Yeah. Now, if that's in twenty twenty four, he wouldn't have pulled
- 6:46his phone out and said, look at me, look what I'm doing.
- 6:46He just fucking went and did it. He just went and fucking did it.
- 6:49Also responsible for one of the great means of our time. How do
- 6:53you do, fellow games, Yes, and you're gonna punch this man in
- 6:57the face, not having it, not at all, just terrible human being.
- 7:01I'm very disappointed by this, indeed, but I think Steve has probably
- 7:06recovered quite nicely. The only upside of this if he was punched near the
- 7:10eye, it wouldn't look like the swelling would be that bad. Steve,
- 7:13I love you. That's the only reason I'm going to make a joke.
- 7:15He would appreciate that joke. I think, what are you talking about.
- 7:18He's also for nineties kids, the guy who save Billy Madison and put lipstick
- 7:24on. He's a red player in Sandman. You're gonna punch this man.
- 7:30Adam Sandler is on a manhunt right now. He's gone out for him.
- 7:35He trusted you. He's going after him. Little Nicky style or Bobby bchaystyle
- 7:41or Bobby be schaystyle would be better. Yes, you don't mess with the
- 7:46Zohan is what we've learned anyway. But of course on the show we are
- 7:49going to take sand Men detours. Let's not do that. Let's talk about
- 7:53this episode instead. I hope you appreciate that I have turned up American sober
- 7:56rather than Irish sober. Yes, but yeah, this was a perfectly fine
- 8:01episode. Look a few of the issues or faults that I tend to have
- 8:07with recent episodes just it's the same old thing, isn't it. Home is
- 8:11a joke for no reason, just the towns people are cruel to each other
- 8:15for no reason. Now it just feels like it was very mean. Crusty
- 8:16in particular, was very mean spirited in this. I know Krusty's not a
- 8:20nice guy, but yeah, even hibbits interactions in the entire episode, I
- 8:22just thought, where is this coming from? Yeah, I don't know if
- 8:24it sort of speaks about the way American society or the society of the world
- 8:31was at this time. When The Simpsons premiered, it seemed like, you
- 8:33know, people were grumpy or grauty, or they behave badly, but it
- 8:35was usually because we're just trying to get through the day and it's working your
- 8:41ass off and getting nowhere. Yes, something that Dando, you know,
- 8:43currently resonates Bory strongly. We'll get to that. But it seemed like,
- 8:52you know, when you behave badly or acted out. It was out of
- 8:56a sense of frustration or maybe desperation. It's like, Man, I'm working
- 9:00hard and life's just not going my way, whereas this it just seemed but
- 9:05yeah, the fundamental goodness and decency of not just a Simpsons family, but
- 9:09the people of Springfeld kind of came through. Now it just seems like,
- 9:15yeah, everybody's an asshole. Yeah, no one wants to be there anymore.
- 9:18No one likes that anybody else. Yeah. So, and it takes
- 9:22you out of the as a Simpsons fan been watching for the entire series,
- 9:24it takes you out of the moment because you're sitting there going, why are
- 9:28you being so mean to doctor Hibbitt. Yeah. Now, we don't necessarily
- 9:31want the Simpson to be it's a what's a magical man from happy Land who
- 9:39lives in a gun drip has a learning bird blant one of my favorite moments.
- 9:41Well, you're being sarcastic then, right. I think one of the
- 9:46reasons the Simpsons took off when it did and became as popular as it did.
- 9:52It gave voice to a lot of that frustration and desperation that I was
- 9:56talking about. You were so used to, particularly American situation comedy families being
- 10:01like I love you, gazz. That's why al Bundy works so well.
- 10:05It's why al Bundy works and that's why The Simpsons works out well. I
- 10:07mean, the Simpsons didn't go quite as far as as Married with Children did,
- 10:11and no peck ni pick like, oh my life's dreadful. The Simpsons
- 10:20was used to be so great at parodies just that, no peck, Yeah,
- 10:26and look, the Married Children really gave voice to that, but Simpons
- 10:30gave voice to it in a slightly more quite unquote, family friendly, more
- 10:33structured way out. Married with Children was such I haven't washed it for so
- 10:39long, but it felt like it was deliberately just going over the top.
- 10:41Oh yeah, and that's what the audience wanted you listen to. It's like
- 10:45it was it was playing to the the ape inside us all, you know
- 10:48very much. So yeah, and like the polar opposite of something like the
- 10:52two family sitcoms that I always quite growing times or even here, it's amazing.
- 10:58No, I think I don't think anyone's got anything bad to say about
- 11:01Ed O'Neil and Katie Sigole. Maybe David Fastina, but or Christina or Christina
- 11:07Rabbelgate. Everyone loved Christina Rabblegate, and they're viewed as like, oh,
- 11:11these people are exemplifying the worst things about you know, American society and American
- 11:16family. Like meanwhile, not like that greet bill cars. But it's almost
- 11:20like people going, can we come back to being like our Bundy now much
- 11:24pretty much just like sit around. Yeah, but you've got that in the
- 11:28early days of The Simpsons where it's like this is probably more recognizable to you
- 11:31if you've if you actually live in a family unit, you'll have each other's
- 11:35back, but occasionally you want to choke the shit out on one another.
- 11:37That's what the Simpsons was like as well as well. That's what I'm saying
- 11:39that that is what the Simpsons. Yeah, at its core, you know,
- 11:41they're at each other and you are with your brothers and sisters, your
- 11:45siblings, you're fighting. At the end of the day, if someone messes
- 11:46with your sibling, you're gonna fuck that person up, exactly. Yeah.
- 11:48Now, maybe familiarity from between the audience and the show or just but in
- 11:54you know, the people who create the show I'm talking about the Simpsons here
- 11:56atwork created some degree of contempt everyone's getting a bit sort of grouchy, a
- 12:01bit angrier the writer's room. That's what I'm thinking. Maybe maybe that is
- 12:07the case. This is just purely unqualified psychotherapy from your pals down to one
- 12:13guy here. But maybe it's the thing. I really want to start getting
- 12:16more writers from the show, who's to be on the show and just be
- 12:20animated, Just people who were there during this period, just ask them what
- 12:24was the mentality going into some of the gags here, for example, sideshow
- 12:26mal and things like that. It just feels like, at some points you're
- 12:30watched this going, is this a retaliation to the Simpson's not being cool anymore
- 12:33and them not trying to appear cool but just being angry at the world there.
- 12:39It's just it's just I just don't get why there was a crusty in
- 12:41hibbit in this episode where I just went, you could literally have just assigned
- 12:45these payouts to any carry, anybody else. Yeah, yeah, it was
- 12:48the first one I watched. The Krusty Ones seem relatively in character, but
- 12:52hip it could be anybody. Yeah. Yeah. It just feels like,
- 12:54why did you choose Hibbit here? What's the point of all this? I
- 12:58just I don't get but with the story, I enjoyed it, but I
- 13:03can't help but think I've got my notes here. It's just another march helping
- 13:07somebody in these story We've had that. So it seems like ninety percent of
- 13:09her stories now in these teen years, it's the same thing. Whether it
- 13:13be that painter Jack Crowley was was he a prisoner? I think, yeah,
- 13:16that good painter. That was the Michael Keaton when yes, yeah,
- 13:20when Nelson needed somebody because you needed a mother a role, it's like someone's
- 13:24in need, it's just assigned, Marge. Yeah. Now it's a it's
- 13:28a probably a very relevant comment about how women do the bulk of the quote
- 13:31unquote emotional labor in households. You know, if someone if something needs to
- 13:35be done, you go to your what do you go to your dad for?
- 13:37Probably money? I think it's changed a bit now, but that's yeah.
- 13:41But for the majority of life, that's always been the mentality. Yeah,
- 13:45yeah, it's shifting ever so slightly incrementally. But Nicolay comes home now
- 13:50and asks, why is dinner not cooked? I'm sitting there with my kitchen
- 13:54apron on trying to cook, juggling plates and getting the kids. Now he's
- 13:58we don't have the Cara is going to do nothing. Come to the apron.
- 14:01He's a saucy French maid's outfit. Nicholas request, well, you know
- 14:07you've got to keep her indoors happy. But yeah, I honestly think that
- 14:13is the case, and I think get a bit repetitive. Absolutely, when
- 14:16it's oh, Marge's helping out another person. I liked in this episode how
- 14:22I kind of flipped it. Here Normally is the other person letting Marge down,
- 14:26but here was Marge letting the other person down. But I can understand
- 14:28why Marge let him down because you just sort of she said what she said
- 14:31to get out of the situation. Absolutely, yeah, and I mean a
- 14:35small part of her sort of wanted to help him, but then she went,
- 14:39there's the guy who put a gun in my face. Yes, you
- 14:41got a bit real for me this episode too, when she's like calling Homer
- 14:45on the phone saying, if you don't make it, there's a goodbye,
- 14:46my love, And I thought this is getting a bit heavy. Oh yeah,
- 14:50yeah, I mean, you hear more and more things about say I'm
- 14:54sorry to bring the mood of the room down a little bit. But one
- 14:58thing that reminded me of is he reminded me of the nine to eleven calls
- 15:03from the plane. There's that there's also school shootings in the US. I
- 15:07just I don't know. You know, you're having kids sort of like texting
- 15:09their parents saying if I don't make it out of them, like what the
- 15:13fuck? Yeah, but like March, then you can remarry. And I
- 15:16know they trying to make it a gag by having the list of names and
- 15:18things like that. But when she just said goodbye, my love, and
- 15:20I thought, holy shit, this isn't fun, this isn't funny, this
- 15:24is just this is somewhat scary a little bit. Yeah, maybe it was
- 15:30their sort of I don't know them trying to tackle the issue of Yeah.
- 15:35I think at its best, the Simpsons and a lot of other shows are
- 15:39able to dovetail those kind of tones together. You can have a moment oh
- 15:43wow, that actually really affects me, that really resonates with me. But
- 15:48I don't know, the tones don't seem they're grinding up against each other here
- 15:52as opposed to flowing into one another. Did they actually did they explain why
- 15:56he robbed the bank? I can't recall, No, I he had some
- 16:00deep set of issues because of his mother abandoning him and things like that.
- 16:03But there's no reason for him to actually rob a bank. I mean,
- 16:07he could be doing any sort of yeah crime. They wanted to do a
- 16:10dogged afternoon wanted to do and why not? Yeah, But Steve Shemy was
- 16:14good in the role, very good in the role. He always brings it.
- 16:17He always brings it. Has he ever not brought it? Not have
- 16:19if you had a role where you're going, Steve, what do you do
- 16:22it? Mate? I think everyone's always happy to see Steve on screen very
- 16:26much. So. Yeah, I mean pops up in corn heir. As
- 16:29mentioned before, the little girls like would you do it? Little girl?
- 16:30Wait a minute? Nothing, that's one of the great payoffs for like,
- 16:33because you are, as a viewer fucking worried absolute little girl's life. Right,
- 16:37And then when she waves goodbye and the plants like, oh he's good
- 16:40in everybody, he's not killing every just understood. He's a monster, but
- 16:45not an absolute monster. Every That's the thing. Every monster has their limits.
- 16:51Ye, everyone said, no many prisoners right when it comes to kids,
- 16:56they won't touch kids. Obviously, there's a section that will and they
- 16:59deserve whenever they have come into him. But I just loved that the girls
- 17:02ways going you like, I remem watching those on this sense of relief.
- 17:06Yeah, look, I'm I'm pretty sure Jerry Bruckhmer and the team at Conair
- 17:08were going, Yeah, let's lead you down the little the garden part of
- 17:14little bit that we'll put you back. Yeah, they had. If they
- 17:15didn't put that seat in there, that would have been fucked up. There's
- 17:18because it would be. It'd be there'd be so many forums dedicated to what
- 17:22happened to the little girl. Oh yeah, like a Netflix documentary about it.
- 17:26It's great in Conne. Well, one thing great about Conne. You've
- 17:27got this playful of absolute scumbags and monsters. What a great movie. Fantastic
- 17:32move we have to do conye, Yeah, we'll do a movie. Guys,
- 17:34just well what the movies we've talked about that, We're like, we're
- 17:37not even going to do a pole, let's just do that Cone. Yeah.
- 17:42I think we should do those absolutely. But you've got, yeah,
- 17:45this plainful of absolute monsters, Sarus, the virus, Diamond Dog, et
- 17:48cetera, et cetera. People sort of respect and fear Garland Green for Shemi's
- 17:52character because it's like, oh, he's such a monster, but yeah,
- 17:55they don't let him the little girl. And the one person that no one
- 17:57seems to really like or respect is Danny Treyo's character, who's just who's like
- 18:02the serial rapers, like the fuck away from it. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:04I mean you're scared of him because he's Danny Treo, but it's like,
- 18:07I'm pretty sure it's doesn't Nicholas Cage beat the ship out of him? Probably
- 18:11poor Dave Chappelle, poor Pinball had a name too. How good is that
- 18:18that? The guy who wrote that is this little stee peak at Connair Review.
- 18:22Yeah, yeah, there's another reason why she's support us on age this
- 18:26kind of conversation. We just reviewed movies that we love. We why not?
- 18:30I mean we threw it to the patrons and like we revealing some movies
- 18:34had good movies. But we'll just go back to review movies that we love.
- 18:37I think, so it's just more fun. Yeah. Yeah. Connor
- 18:41is just full of the guy who wrote it. As guy named Scott Rosenberg,
- 18:45he recently wrote the the recent Jamalji rebooting. He had a string of
- 18:52in the nineties had a really good run of selling scripts and things like that,
- 18:56and they all like you know, some of them were Tarantino knockops,
- 18:59but they all had really great character names. But the nineties were the best
- 19:02for that nineties, best time we were going to say about Roosenberg, Oh
- 19:06yeah, that's he just wrote these scripts that you know, crime scripts or
- 19:10action scripts or horror scripts or whatever. All the characters always had really fantastic
- 19:12names, really scriptive names. But look at the conne in one particularly that's
- 19:17looking, oh you're kangaroo Jack. Though apparently kangaroo Jack started as the talking
- 19:26kangaroo was just again not an aspect of it at all. It was like
- 19:30a it was originally called Down and Under and it was like an Aussie based
- 19:33crime caper where you know, two guys have got to come to Australia.
- 19:37They're out of the fish, out of water. There's a snow dollar money,
- 19:41yeah, and none of us snowdogs. So dog just had that one
- 19:45dream where it's the dog's talking. You're like, yeah, oh yeah,
- 19:48that's what kangaroo Jack probably was going. Yeah, and the kangaroo sort of
- 19:51bouns off with the money and it's like what the fact do we do now?
- 19:53And now they and then they turned it into like, now let's make
- 19:56it a work, a comedy with a kangaroo talk, and I've just never
- 19:59been he's an Anthony Anderson. It's not exactly yeah, I can take a
- 20:03leave. But see I saw him those guys who seems to have been working
- 20:07forever though. Yeah, yeah, and more power to him. But he
- 20:08was on we watch Wheel Fortune sometimes, Nicola and I right, and he
- 20:11has won a celebrity one right, and he was just one of those people
- 20:15where everyone listen to me, I'm gonna make a joke about everything part Everything's
- 20:21gonna be a gag. And it's like, just say fucking tea, please
- 20:22just buy about like everything has to be a thing. Talking with a mate
- 20:27of man online about a podcast that we both enjoy and there's a guy who's
- 20:32a semi infrequent guest on it who I can very much take a leave.
- 20:36And when I was running to the guy s this is the guy who just
- 20:38ruins every dinner party he's at, just trying to be the center of attention.
- 20:42Yeah, gotta let you know my opinions. I'm just looking at Scott
- 20:48Rosenberg's run sheet here of all these movies things like impost I'm like, I'm
- 20:56gonna watch that great night, great name postal look is cool. I'm gonna
- 20:59watch it. Absolutely need a blurb. But he'd gone in sixty seconds as
- 21:03well. Disturbing behavior Highway. What a name highway? But a good title
- 21:08is you know half your work's done? Man? Well, when I was
- 21:11a kid, it was just the front The front cover looked cool. I'd
- 21:14got to hire that movie. Yeah, it's as we say, rip Roger
- 21:18Corman, one of the best to ever do it. Often, you know,
- 21:22here's a title, come up with a story around that. It's like,
- 21:26what's what this episode felt like? We were to be dogged o afternoon.
- 21:29Write an episode around that. SMI's coming in. Throw him in there
- 21:32somewhere by the way. Time for God to put on his pretentious hat.
- 21:36The title of this episode is I Don't want to Know Why the Cage Bird
- 21:37Sings. That is a play on I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings,
- 21:42which is the title of the autobiography of poet and writer Maya Angelou. It
- 21:48is apparently a searing look at discrimination, racism, and trauma growing a young
- 21:53African American woman. It is supposedly one of the great works of American literature.
- 22:00I have not read it because it just seems terribly depressing, and that
- 22:04favorite moments, favorites, my favorite What were yours? I wanted to I
- 22:11mean, I really liked that they did a Dog Afternoon parody. It's good
- 22:17to see Steve A. Shemy and someone who's meant to look like the late
- 22:19great John Cazal, the co star of Dog d Avenon alongside Pacino, only
- 22:25appeared in like five movies, John and They were The Godfather, The Godfather
- 22:30Part two, The Conversation, also written directed by Francis Coppler, Doged Afternoon
- 22:34and The Deer Hunter Pretty good resumes a lot of that movies. Yea,
- 22:41all certified bangers. Yeah, very interesting just to look at, isn't he?
- 22:45Oh yeah, fascinating face. Yeah. He died very young cancer.
- 22:52Why or did not die in the eighties? How long ago? Oh?
- 22:55No, he died in the like the seventies. Maybe that's why he wasn't
- 22:57in many movies and I guess, Oh yeah. He was also a very
- 23:00renowned stage actor. Okay, and partner, my partner of Meryl Streep.
- 23:04Really no ship. There we go did I know that? Fun facts?
- 23:08What did you learn today, Dano? We can skip to what you learned.
- 23:18Maybe I'm jumping on what we would talk about during the review, but
- 23:22it's funny that it's got this gay joke in it, that Simpson, that
- 23:25the Simpson's doing a lot lately, the whole why do You Two? Boyfriend?
- 23:27Jon? The thing about Dogged Afternoon is that Albertino is actually robbing the
- 23:33bank so he can get the money so his male partner can have gender transition
- 23:37surgery. Yeah, it's amazing that Dogged Afternoon is actually more progressive. It's
- 23:41amazing that they made than this episode thirty years later. I also liked that
- 23:49they gave The Negotiator a shadow that movie, The Negotiating I'm going to ask
- 23:52what your thoughts were. I've never seen the movie, but it felt like
- 23:56another one of those reading reading sign reading sign reading sign of This one had
- 24:00a better payoff though, like closing credits, I was like, that's that's
- 24:03a payoff. That's actually not, but that was it seems. I think
- 24:07they were probably the actual chapter titles of the that's the game. Yeah,
- 24:12worth watching The Negotiator. It's all right, it's okay. Yeah, okay,
- 24:17guys. Initial reaction is usually why Italian, what I should watch it
- 24:19and that to know. But when go goes that's it. Yes, when
- 24:25we sort of you can't see this because Cameron the day, but he sort
- 24:27of like scratched his nose and goes yes, to think about it. No,
- 24:32it was a brief period where let's put Kevin. Let's put Kevin space
- 24:36and everything America be yeah, with some young men are going put him in
- 24:41me. Yeah, I saw that he tried to defend himself recently. Everyone's
- 24:44tearing him to everyone's everyone to shreds, to shreds. A lot of people
- 24:48came out of the woodwork I was about to say, came out of the
- 24:51closet to defend him. That's not exactly the right to No. No,
- 24:55Lean Leeson, Sharon Stone and some other actor were like, he's been in
- 24:59the wild and there's too line. It's given space. He's probably worth something
- 25:00like seventy million bucks. He doesn't need more work. I understand he wants
- 25:04to work. He doesn't need to No. I think it's more just knowing
- 25:07that he's It was like all the body of work that he put in feels
- 25:11like it's probably just going to be tarnished forever. That's probably playing on his
- 25:15mind some of it. Certainly, he probably don't want to do it,
- 25:18just he doesn't want the money. I think he just wants the idea of
- 25:21I think he wants a rapist forever. Please clean some of this garbage off
- 25:26my off my memorial. We don't know enough about nitty and gritty, so
- 25:30let's not get into it. We certainly some of my favorite moments, though,
- 25:33were I liked the this was once abandoned theater before that theater. Yes,
- 25:37I didn't mind the reserve for Mars Stabo in the movie that Marge was
- 25:42watching and whatever what was his name? The Pashimi's character Dwight Dwight Dwight says
- 25:48he returned to prison once he's settled his business. Please say that is more
- 25:52than fair. And that's about it for me. Where do you have anything?
- 25:57I've said mine just touse. She had some negotiator and doctor. I'm
- 26:03sure as we go through we'll be like, oh, that wasn't that was
- 26:04mad? Like that? You're that bit awesome? Remember you did that?
- 26:19Alright? Stonecutters, Katie g gonna be seeing you in a couple of weeks
- 26:22your hundred dollar spport. Thank you so much. It's very very is it
- 26:26next week important to us as the first week of June, so it will
- 26:29be next week. We better get out next week the week after, so
- 26:30it's twenty fourth. I do we record this so yeah in week after?
- 26:34Yeah, about June seventh. I think we've got we've got a week to
- 26:37tidy up the town. Yes, Andrews there may Man you live here with

- 27:15tier supporters at four Thinger Discount. May I just give a quick shout out
- 27:18to Ginger, not Pickle. Screw that kid. I'm just kidding, but
- 27:26Ginger was very nice. She dropped into the DMS because she has heard me
- 27:30talk about the Lovely Louise and particularly the Lovely Louises little dog RAFFI. I've
- 27:33a similar dog. Yeah, yes, the I was about to say the
- 27:37Pomeraney, and that's not it. What do you call one? Holy shit?
- 27:40Whatever? They are small, little pepion. Little gives me looking things,
- 27:44little gives my looking dog essentially. Yeah. But she alerted me to
- 27:48first of all, a Facebook group that's like local owners of Pepion's. I
- 27:52love that. It's just this random communities like that. Oh yeah, absolutely
- 27:56on the one good thing that social media has done. Actually there are two
- 27:59good things, but we won't talk about the one. But the other thing
- 28:03was, Hey, there's a get together of Papillon's and their owners in Geelong
- 28:08this Sunday, of course, for this the Lovely Louise. She's like,
- 28:11why would you give me this? I want to sleep in but thank you
- 28:18Ginger, very very much appreciated. I have not replied in the DMS.
- 28:22I will do that as well, but I think you'll agree this is a
- 28:26far more you'd appreciate this far more getting a shout out on the show,
- 28:30and next let zack outs it out and next week will be the final episode
- 28:33of the month. So that's what we're gonna be, reading out the names
- 28:36of our newest members of the forth Esista family who aren't quite on the top
- 28:38tier. It's going to go. It's going to go for real because there's
- 28:42so many Next question, you there eating the paste? All right, it
- 28:48is now time for some trivia questions. My first for you, mister Davis,
- 28:52is what is much referred to as in Homer's phone She's big blue?
- 28:57Is it big blue or big blue? I thought baby blue? Is my
- 29:00mind? It is big blue. I've got big blue brute Yet you're right,
- 29:03yes, still over our baby blue. Which funeral home is featured in
- 29:07the school paper? Nah, I don't have that one. It's Conroy's.
- 29:10That's another one of those moments writers went what was happening here? Yeah,
- 29:14let's read the other ad and it depends like, ah, this seems so.
- 29:18Yeah, bake, Yeah, he doing some fourth wall breaking here.
- 29:22Really, he'll buy beer for it, but he won't make you. He'll
- 29:25want to drink it with you. That's not even funny. What's going on?
- 29:29My next question for you? You got yeah. My next question for
- 29:30you is name the people who Homer can marry. According to March, Homer
- 29:34can marry Lindsay Nagel, Booberella and blife down at Okay, well, okay,
- 29:41the mother of Gwyneth Paltrow. Yes, in real life, and she
- 29:44is the mother of Grace in willing Grace. No, don't will in willing
- 29:48Grace in fictional life. Yes? What else does Homer have to do on
- 29:52there? By the way, feed the cat? Yeah, that's right.
- 29:52That was not a question. By the way, well that was a question,
- 29:56but it wasn't a question. It took me back to the moment where
- 29:57Marche I think it's Homer alone, where she's basically saying make sure you do
- 30:00this, and was like, don't worry, I got it. Yeah,
- 30:03I got it. I got it. At the end, cat in the
- 30:04furnace. My question for you, Yeah, Christy was named a poor quality
- 30:11clown by Witch magazine. Not what is it laughways? Ways? And my
- 30:17final question is how early does Homer arrived to the event. He is there
- 30:21one hour and forty five minutes early, fifty four minutes early, because he
- 30:25goes, I'm what's the numeric version of dyslexic? I don't know. It
- 30:29just means I've got to clean my good eyes. But I did write down
- 30:33one would laugh at a man with would you? You wouldn't put Steve as
- 30:37shem in the fees, would you? All right, let's get into our
- 30:40review of I don't want to know why the Caged Bird sings? So This
- 30:44episode originally aired October fourteenth, two thousand and seven, written by Dana Gould
- 30:48okay and directed by Bob Anderson, starring Steve A. Shemiers. Dwight Ted
- 30:52Nugent stars as himself and our lovely Lady Julia. I'm talking Seinfeld. She
- 30:59starts returns as Gloria unless you returned just for that little bit, just for
- 31:02that bit, yeah, good Ald. Similar to when fat Tony Joe Montana,
- 31:07He's like, I have to always voice fat Tony. Apparently fat Tony
- 31:11died. I didn't know this, excuse me. They killed off fat Tony
- 31:15was about to say Joe Montana is dead, and I was like, no,
- 31:18no, no, direct that the character's dead. Yes, but then
- 31:21they brought him back the same so he returned as like skinny Tony or something.
- 31:25But then he got fat against and they're like, you will now be
- 31:26fat Tony. I'm like, what's going on here? That's why I just
- 31:30read about that and I went that sounds terrible. I don't appreciate this.
- 31:33No, it's kind of like when they Lisa the cats kept dying. Remember
- 31:37at the end, they go, let's just call you Snowball, so it's
- 31:38back to the stud It's kind I'm like, it's not snowball. Yes,
- 31:41I do not want. The episode kicks off though with well have we done
- 31:47le board and the couch game? We have not. I will do that
- 31:48now. Actually, so the chalkboall gig. I am not an FDIC insured
- 31:52bank. I'm a little I don't know what to what to make what it
- 32:00means. No, it's like he was someding that was in the news.
- 32:04And you know how the Simpsons rise will sometimes make fun of themselves, you
- 32:09know, like with Harvard hats or Yale hats or completely out of touch,
- 32:14and it's like, let's do this gag. It'll appeal to maybe you know
- 32:16three people, it'll appeals to us, yes, us and maybe three other
- 32:20people. But if those three other people get oh, they'll just laugh at
- 32:22they love it? Will they? Though? I like to think of myself
- 32:27as a relatively smart person, I'm like, this is just you're being a
- 32:30smart ass as opposed to being a smart funny person. I missed the catch
- 32:35because I was busy googling FDA and she would make and then you typed in
- 32:38KFC by I don't care, I have it. Yeah, And the couch
- 32:45gag was home in Marge but at Lisa sit on the couch. Then the
- 32:49scene expands and shows Maggie playing with a dollhouse. She picks it up Homer
- 32:52and replaces him as her pacifiers, sucking on Homer. I'm pretty sure they've
- 32:57views that one before. I think they have. I've I think a lot
- 33:00of couch gags get recycled, which is nothing wrong with that. Recycling is
- 33:02good for the planet and good for us. Yes. Now, the episode
- 33:06kicks off with Bart getting ready for tomorrow. Why is getting ready now for
- 33:09tomorrow? Not really sure, but it's just so I can set up the
- 33:12game. What's tomorrow? Hey, Braid, what is it? I hadn't
- 33:15thought of that? Oh man, I mean why is it getting now?
- 33:21Yeah? I mean how hard is it? And what day the week is
- 33:25it? Is everyone going to school on the weekend? What what's going on
- 33:29here? You wouldn't hold you would at eleven am on a weekday. If
- 33:31you're going to have Bart Marge getting Bart ready for tomorrow, at least to
- 33:37have a like altering his suit or something's like, oh, I'm gonna have
- 33:42to redo these pants or something like that, or this is how you tie
- 33:45tie? Give it? Give us just a little bit, tonty bit.
- 33:49That is what the fuck is the shouldn't the mill anymore? It's just this.
- 33:52We just need a reason for them to get to the school. I'm
- 33:54sorry. This is right up there with the you know, what is it?
- 34:00What's the award that burns the over over achievement of the field of excellence
- 34:04or something most outstanding achievement in the field of excellence? Thank you very much.
- 34:12Yes, yes, that's what it feels like. But Marge says it's
- 34:16just so they can set up march, saying you missed too many important moments.
- 34:20And Homer. I think I wrote here you're not off on with a
- 34:23good start here with Homer being a good father, him debating with marg how
- 34:29drunk can I be at this? I'm like, oh, why are we?
- 34:34Why are we doing this? It has no bearing on the story.
- 34:37He didn't act drunk at the event, So why why is this needed?
- 34:42Why was this whole fucking openly act needed a whole scene? I don't know.
- 34:47Don't don't be late for this event tomorrow. Yeah. We mentioned married
- 34:51with children earlier and how the simptoms kind of made fun of it. I
- 34:53think, yeah, it wasn't. Actually this show is so terrible, but
- 34:57it was like, it's still plucking fun of it. This is Homer literally
- 35:00being al Bundy essentially worse. Yeah. I just don't understand because our Bundy
- 35:07was more just like he wanted to go. Yeah. My problem with this
- 35:12I raised it before and it's now bothering me. What day of the week
- 35:15was this? Well, yeah, it was a weekday because banks aren't open
- 35:17on the weekends sometimes Saturday mornings. Right, So they're giving Lisa the Student
- 35:22of Millennium award at a big event at eleven am on a week day and
- 35:27everyone was just there. Yeah, I don't get it. Yeah, you've
- 35:29oh man, now you've put the You're making my brain start to witch.
- 35:35Oh no, you cannot miss Lisa's big day. And you have to come
- 35:37sober American sober or Irish sober points. You're weight sober point went five points
- 35:44here nine? Wait went out where a stomach full of bread? My final
- 35:47opera deal. Hamer wakes up earlier the next day, six am, and
- 35:52he sees an accident on the way, drives by, realizing no one's hurt.
- 35:57Then he arrives an hour and fifty four minutes early. He's got Makey
- 36:00with him because he thought she was high. Then the bullies are just there.
- 36:04They're saying that these they're reading the school paper awards early scamp for ad
- 36:07Space. Is that meant to be sort of like their writer's take on awards?
- 36:10Serramonzy general, I think it is, ye, And because it makes
- 36:14sense for the bullies to actually believe this as well, No it doesn't,
- 36:15but we'll just rode in there anyway, Marges. Meanwhile, in line for
- 36:19the bank and the Jewish old Jewish men is there just they've done this before
- 36:22usually Grandpat at the front of the line, supermarket whatever, just want somebody
- 36:25to talk to. Margin chats to the What we find out is the robber.
- 36:30Yeah, she's being nice. It's Dwight. Everyone down on the floor.
- 36:36Now this there's a robbery, not a separate robbery. Work together,
- 36:44you mean like a couple. No, yes, oh great, we're being
- 36:49robbed by Johnny and Clyde. Homer then calls Marge because she's late and tries
- 36:59to rub in. Then they shoot Gil. I was like, he's Gill
- 37:01dead now? And then I looked it up and it's like on the Simpsons
- 37:06wiki on the Gilt Gunnerson page, Gill has died numerous times on the Simpsons.
- 37:09Apparently he's been in an exploding car and things. So he's become the
- 37:13new Hans moment. I guess the Kenny, the Kenny. Yeah, but
- 37:15this one here, No one's like an exploding car whatever. Just it's so
- 37:20outrageous, you just like whatever. Yeah, but that exploding car with mument
- 37:23I guess happened in the in the Tress of Horace and then on canon.
- 37:28But seeing him just be filled with bullets here, I'm like, well,
- 37:30no, he's dead, how can he ever come back or he's been He's
- 37:35got like thirty bullet holes in it, and he's laying on the floor bleeding.
- 37:37He's dead. How hard to put a bulletproof vest on him or something
- 37:39like that. I didn't know whether it may have been in reference to the
- 37:43movie. Does that happen in the film. It's been a long time since
- 37:45I saw Dogged after the Okay, but anyway, so all those ones I
- 37:49should revisit. Lou then says we go sixty four g in progress. Oh,
- 37:53man, Wigan was unbearable in this episode. I know the whole it's
- 37:59a shooty steal. Oh sure, he's stealing. The timing's off a lot
- 38:05of things. They've done these gigs forever, but they don't seem to hit
- 38:07anymore. No, I mean, I don't know if it's, like I
- 38:10said, familiarity becoming contempt, But I don't know. I think a good
- 38:14gag plays however many times you watch it. But yeah, for some reason,
- 38:19I don't know, there's yeah, the timing was just yeah, skewif
- 38:23Then the reaction shot after that's like this goes on like maybe a second or
- 38:27two too long. But in the in the it's like inception, you're in
- 38:31that two seconds, and it feels like infinity, like when you're watching the
- 38:37microwave, well pretty much when do they watch but the boil burrito. But
- 38:43this is where Marge calls Homer and I'm going to tell you. I was
- 38:45like, at the end of that, I went, I feel bad now
- 38:50this is it took me right out of the moment. But Homer here,
- 38:53I didn't mind. They don't do anything. They say, be panicky,
- 38:58try and be a hero. That's that is just what Hannah would say,
- 39:00march as you can remarry of court blah blah blah blah. Then the rubber
- 39:04approaches her, which is why she hang up the phone, so you think,
- 39:07oh, it's like going well for her. He then puts them into
- 39:09is it not a safe but where they have all the set deposit boxes or
- 39:13whatever, a vault no funny stuff chaus. He says, don't worry,
- 39:16I'm not funny at all. Gives you that long riff hammer arrives and he
- 39:21says, my current wife is in there. I guess because she said he
- 39:23could remarry. Yeah, that's okay, that actually works. That's nice.
- 39:25I like that. Wigham says, well, you can take over because I've
- 39:30got no stake in this, and I'm like, what the fuck is going
- 39:31on here? And with the diepack? How the diapacks get in there?
- 39:36What were those diapacs about? We know how diepac works, yes, but
- 39:38who put him in there? I don't know, writers, but I understand
- 39:45what they are. But Moleman became a human diepack like he was. He
- 39:49wasn't a diepack, but they put all these things kept exploding. I'm like,
- 39:52where are all these things coming from? They weren't there before, now
- 39:54they're there. Yeah, And the episode has gone off to such a sort
- 39:59of so oh, Star shoots Jasper diabetic that absurd gags like everything being a
- 40:05die pack, which might work under other circumstances. I hear it and it's
- 40:10like, oh, yeah, that's kind of funny. I mean, you
- 40:13know, oh, okay, a die pack in the cash okay, expected
- 40:16No, that's a diepack for me. I think it's because you made that
- 40:19phone call feel so real. Yeah, it's togeous out of it. It's
- 40:22tough to get back to absurdity after you've kept it real. I thought the
- 40:28acting from Julie was great. The goodbye my level. It felt like someone's
- 40:30last quarter that that was a lot of Julie did a really good job.
- 40:35Yes, episode Julie Cabnet talking about the justifications to herself. Oh well,
- 40:39I better go pick what apples for everybody looked at that at the time.
- 40:43Yes, then they get the DVD. If the negotiator out, good gag,
- 40:46good payoff. I like that better than what it was last week,
- 40:49Denny's dolt, whatever it was with reading the signs. Then Angus, Angus,
- 40:54angus, it's Agnes Angus. Young Agnes cries, She just she has
- 41:00kind of check the date. She doesn't want to die. Margin goes to
- 41:01talk to Dwight, and I was like, man, I probably wouldn't be
- 41:05doing this. Don't leave the Sally's clearly a madman. Dwight, use your
- 41:10noodle. If you surrender. Now you're only looking at a few years in
- 41:15jail. I'm telling me you're a good gun. Marge. I can't go
- 41:19back to prison. I've got no wife, I've got no family, I've
- 41:22got nothing. If I give myself up. Will you come visit me in
- 41:31the joint? Hey, if I can say yes the Chinese toys that kill
- 41:36kids, you can say yes to him. Okay, I'll visit your dwight.
- 41:51Oh, Marge, I was afraid I was going to lose you.
- 41:54Oh now, let me help you make your slow transition back to say you
- 42:00just want to go home. You have a new home. No, see
- 42:07you soon, Marge, real soon, just like you promised. Becoming a
- 42:16commercial. Marges are still nervous. She says, you can't visit it.
- 42:20I can buy that. Marge wouldnt want to go to a prison in general.
- 42:22Oh absolutely, She's been to prison for home a couple of times.
- 42:24Remember he was the rat. She wasn't his hair. Oh the little do
- 42:30rag didn't have a comb or something behind his ear. Do you have a
- 42:36do ragon? He was in prison for being a snitch. Yeah, yeah,
- 42:38he had something. I can't what it was. I thought it was
- 42:40like one of those little do rags. Be wrong, yes, but Homer
- 42:45says, you know, he didn't visit in the hospital. He visited the
- 42:47tavern, not the the person. March as she likes to to keep her
- 42:52promises. There's a lot of gags in here that work. All that.
- 42:55Oh on paper, that sounds great, and for some reason just didn't fly.
- 42:59No, just sort of you skim by anything. Oh yeah, say
- 43:02yeah, all the build up on it is wrong. Yeah, and you
- 43:06know so the punchline feels kind of deflated as a result. I thin because
- 43:08Marge follows it up by saying, yeah, but I like to keep my
- 43:10promises. Are going that's right, You're a douchebag Homer. Yeah. Yeah,
- 43:15if you cut it off at the end, yeah, just move the
- 43:17taborn, no move the person, cut the next thing. Yeah, okay,
- 43:22yeah, move on. Don't point out that he's not a good person.
- 43:25I mean, I think we already know that Marge is essentially the moral
- 43:29center of the family and will keep her promises. We don't need or even
- 43:31just her being in the car in the following scene that gives an occasion like,
- 43:36oh, she's on her way to prison. Marge keeps funny excuses not
- 43:38to go though the trader sales sloos dradalarium or whatever sale. And you ever
- 43:46found yourself buying something that you knew you didn't need but it was on salees
- 43:50you just bought it. I'm a sucker for that. I'm like, oh,
- 43:52I don't need this, but fuck that is cheap. Oh yeah,
- 43:54Lou and I would just laugh about this bullish not to buy this at these
- 44:00prices. I've you know, the Woodie is right, Yes, I've got
- 44:02a few of them, but I always wanted this space jam one. Right,
- 44:06And then I saw someone, of course, did just pop the can
- 44:09you believe it? In my Facebook feeds someone something for twenty dollars in Geelong.
- 44:15I used one, but like you can wash them, that sort of
- 44:16fade or anything. I thought, I don't need another one. Nicola won't
- 44:21be happy, but I'm going to bite. And Nicola got home and she
- 44:23went, she walked to the front door. I'm cooking clean the house first
- 44:28season. The better is it's new, and she goes another one. I'll
- 44:34give you the guy version of this. Our friend Zurito's that's a necessity.
- 44:39Yeah, that's that's a need, not a want. But our friends at
- 44:44Jbhi Fi we're having a sit recently now they're having the buy one, get
- 44:47one freeze out and guys like, oh no, no, I've realized,
- 44:52right, oh you're gonna pull a swifty. That's not actually cheaper to buy
- 44:55a buy one, get one free because what they do is they bump the
- 44:58prices back up to the division of price. They you only have two for
- 45:00twenty or two for forty with four k's right, but now they've bumped them
- 45:05back up to like, you know, thirty five dollars each and blah blah
- 45:07blah. Which if you buy the thirty five dollars ones, which are usually
- 45:09on the two for forty deals, if you wait for a two for forty
- 45:14deal, the standard sale when they have a twenty percent off, if you
- 45:15buy thirty five dollars and get two, you're actually paying seventeen dollars twenty five
- 45:20or something each. You're actually paying more with the buy one, get one
- 45:22free sale. Wait till they're back to the two for forty, and wait
- 45:25for a twenty percent off sale. Fun with maths with thank you very much
- 45:29for this is a very good lesson. But with box sets, different big
- 45:31box sets, one hundred fifty dollar box sets, you get two one hundred
- 45:34fty dollars much cheaper. Well played movies don't bother, don't bother? Well,
- 45:38I bothered, no, no, no, no, no, the
- 45:40sum around, but they recently the twenty percent off sale. You have the
- 45:45Oceans movies I did. I'm a big family of the Ocean's trilogy m I
- 45:51own them all on Blu Ray. And it's like yeah, but the four
- 45:53key sets available, So of course I'm hitting up my various nurds day where
- 45:57did you have do a key pictures? Better, sounds better, got a
- 46:01little extra documentary. I'm like, probably never going to watch that extra documently,
- 46:07but it's nice to have it in the bag. Oh no, no
- 46:08anything. If they make the f for special features, now you've got my
- 46:10money. So they did, and so I did. And when I see
- 46:16those two sweet words audio commentaries, I'm like, you have sold me,
- 46:20sir, Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, but I mentioned to
- 46:22lose, like I've got to go into town. I've got to click like
- 46:24the JB and get a little slightly raised eyebrow. And I'm like, I
- 46:30try and throw it in there in like mid sentence. I hope she didn't
- 46:34hear me, but but I told her I've got to go feed the homeless
- 46:38rescue baby from a booning building. I picked up my clicking neck from GB.
- 46:43I get you that massage back and buy you flowers. Yes, indeed,
- 46:50so was that the Sates one you're talking about? It wasn't. Yeah,
- 46:52yeah, but they've got the bar and get one free sale. At
- 46:54the moment, there's a couple of four k's that I mean, I don't
- 46:58think I owned the Lost Boy I bought to yesterday. What did you get?
- 47:00I got Poltageist podcast a on the ones I'm thinking of getting. Yeah,
- 47:02because it was twenty five dollars. Yeah, and then we need a
- 47:07toy story for the all the other toy stories. So I was like,
- 47:08well, we got on four K because it comes with the Blu Ray,
- 47:12which has because some four K is Disney now it's just the four K dis
- 47:15with no special features. And then you look at the Blue Ray, and
- 47:16the Blue Ray has all the special features, and I'm thinking I'd much rather
- 47:20paid less money and get special features. Absolutely, but sometimes they release them
- 47:23as like a four K and Blu Ray set, So that's what this one
- 47:27was. I want, Well, I'll get this one. Then that's toy
- 47:30sorry for for the kids, and poltic Geist for me of course, Nicola
- 47:34Nada, none of you can wear this already get this money baby, you
- 47:39can one, you know, bab it's good. Where were we? Uh
- 47:45much nervous? Marge has gone to shopping not on a La Dando and guy
- 47:51do I defensive though in prison about Marge Cumming's like, no, she's gonna
- 47:53be She's gonna be here. We get snake here. The carricature was really
- 47:57sad. Yes, who wears my mummy? It's funny, But this guy's
- 48:02a gonna draw this ship. I think I've said in the past, I
- 48:07can a little snake goes a long way. I don't want to know too
- 48:09much. This is this is what I've also said's girlfriends. But yeah,
- 48:16sometimes I get the joke that you know, he's his hard and criminal who
- 48:21sort of talks like this. I mean the Simpsons at their peak, it
- 48:23was a show filled with one note character that was there to serve a purpose.
- 48:28You didn't know anything about them. Yeah, they just they they were
- 48:30there to fill a gap there and they were like a small dash of paint.
- 48:34I'm doing a doing great audio, doing miming painting, miming brush style.
- 48:38But he was behold, behold the quicking might and just quick munt and
- 48:42saying bye or something like that. That yeah, I bye was the only
- 48:45thing that he said. But he said and bye. Didn't expect a criminals
- 48:50speak like that. That's funny. But when he gets a whole bunch of
- 48:52lines, I'm like, oh man, it was an excuse. Gloria back
- 48:55though, as long as well, yeah you you win some you some next
- 49:00case we won some JLD. I'm watching this JLD. You know me,
- 49:04I'm watching this going you know what needs a wiki? Four figure discount and
- 49:06guy and Dando, I'm thinking today, this afternoon, I'm going to make
- 49:08us a wiki page because we not have one. We don't have onely moldly
- 49:13because we have. Someone has written on some of the Simpsons episode pages going
- 49:17down it for four figure discount, but it doesn't link to anything. I'm
- 49:20like, well, time to link to it. We need to start making
- 49:22it. We have a wiki page. Next week when you listen to this
- 49:23free feed listeners, we have a wiki page. Go and don't change anything,
- 49:30Do not edit, do not edit please, But yeah, we need
- 49:34a wiki page and LinkedIn. All my friends are on LinkedIn, and there's
- 49:37too many platforms like this that you feel the need to you're on a business
- 49:42now, you've got to be on LinkedIn. All my mates are on LinkedIn.
- 49:45I am on LinkedIn. Yeah, okay, you'd link in with anybody.
- 49:49Well, every once in a while I look at my bang bones.
- 49:52Need to get work needed LinkedIn? Really hell, but you know, if
- 49:55I'm i am quote unquote friends or I'm linked Din as the as the title
- 50:01of the website would indicate, because he can't keep just going out on the
- 50:05street and going that Graham Asher and what she used to be. That guy's
- 50:08giving it away. That is life in the modern media. That guy's giving
- 50:15it away. That is literally podcasting for a living in a nutshell. But
- 50:21no, I'm on LinkedIn, and every once in a while it's like,
- 50:23oh, here's an article I wrote, or you know, here's a podcast
- 50:28appearance that I made. By the way, if you think that I'm good
- 50:30at this, get me on your podcast or hire me to write stuff for
- 50:34you. Not much. That guy's giving away for free, though. It's
- 50:38hard to argue with that. But nobody arrives for Dwight. Marche did not
- 50:42arrive because she's being busy picking apples and hits the five o'clock deadline and she
- 50:45decides, well, it's too late now if I can't do it. That
- 50:47was one of my questions. How far away from the prison was the apple
- 50:52orgit or two hundred and forty eight two and fifty miles. When I say
- 50:57forty eight, that's very specific and also very incorrect. Who's wrong with you?
- 51:00Marge? Is fixing light bulbs now another reason to avoid Dwight. That's
- 51:04pretty industrious. Yeah, fixing a light lob. It seems. Sometimes you
- 51:08look at things though, right, I go, I can save money by
- 51:12doing this. But then I think, but the hassle of having to drive
- 51:15to this next shop and do all this, and the time the petrol I
- 51:19think, is it actually worth it? Probably not? Like lowly light bulbs,
- 51:22the amount of time it would take to fix all these, is it
- 51:24really worth it? I didn't know. I didn't know we could fix a
- 51:27lightlber. I don't know where he could either. I'm just assuming he could.
- 51:30The city has never lied to us in the past, is it absolutely
- 51:31not? No, I don't know. But she throws the phone in the
- 51:34garbage, dispposed because it's Dwight calling, but it doesn't break. It's kind
- 51:37of like a knockie. At thirty three fifteen, the Good Old Snake and
- 51:39Polyphont Ringtones good Old sneak yes, and then Ted Nugent answers the phone,
- 51:46MiG Hello, this is Ted Nugent, the Motor City Madman, urging you
- 51:50to vote no on proposition eighty seven. If we outlaw cross bulls in our
- 51:53public schools, who's going to protect our children from charging elk? Thank you
- 51:58for your time, and as always, Wangeranger. Marge is now watching Cash
- 52:06Potato Theater. I thought a guy would like this title, Guy lives it.
- 52:10And then they started outside and the music was almost like Sicho Bob music.
- 52:14I thought, as it would transitioning to the to the prison here,
- 52:16but it's showing Dwight leaving via the waist as opposed to the clean spring water.
- 52:21Indeed. Yeah, redemption. Well you've got a a shorwshank redemption shout
- 52:24out, and also a Cape Fear shout out, not Cape Fear with an
- 52:27E, but when he walks into the camera Robert de Niro exiting prison in
- 52:31Cape Fear, Yeah, well done. The Martain Scusseezy remake Natty and nineteen
- 52:35sixty something originals during I bought Cape Fear recently. I've never watched it.
- 52:38I'm very excited for it. It's gnarly, man, it's uh, it's
- 52:43really good, but it's also pretty pretty sick. Okay, oh yeah,
- 52:46it's very violent. Really oh yeah, ohh, I didn't realize this.
- 52:50You're talking about the de Niro Nio one. Yeah, yeah, okay,
- 52:53because it came out came out, not that I think the same year as
- 52:58Sunson Lambs. I think Sannson Lamb came at the start of the year.
- 53:00And oh that was ninety one size yet one. Yeah, yeah, you
- 53:06said ninety three to k there before. Sorry, Yeah, there's bits in
- 53:08k Fer Holy shit, because the two were sort of talked about as society.
- 53:15Where is it going, lust for Blood? What's the matter with kids?
- 53:21Did they? Yeah, but they're watching Catch Potato there? What do
- 53:24they given? They name the movie, but it's just Johnny Stabb, Johnny
- 53:29Sam Yeah, I mean what it is. What this movie is is basically
- 53:31a riff on an old gangster movie called Angels with Dirty Faces, Oh as
- 53:36opposed to Angels Angels with Filthy Souls. Yeah, which I'm guessing is another
- 53:39riff on that the animal. Yeah, break my heart when I've learnt that
- 53:44wasn't a real movie. But I appreciate the factcause you could, as a
- 53:46kid, you feel like you've seen the movie. Absolutely, it's not a
- 53:50real movie. Angel Dirty Face is good, though, I mean a very
- 53:54nice morality play. Because all these and thirty had to say crime. Does
- 53:59that pay Jimmy voice, that's right, Chris, that's a right Crane has
- 54:04done pat Jimmy Cagney says, gangster, and he's sort of like the idol
- 54:07of all the local young hoodlands are like, Oh, we want to be
- 54:09like this kid. We want to be like this guy when we grow up.
- 54:13His childhood friend, who is a priest, comes at the end when
- 54:15he's been busting and he's about to go to the electric chair, and he
- 54:17says, these kids are all gonna they're all idolizing you, and they're going
- 54:22to go down the same path you do one good thing in your life,
- 54:24act like an absolute fucking coward when you're about to get the electric chair,
- 54:30and Jimmy Cagy is like, no, not gonna do it. I think
- 54:34that was Robinson. Sorry, you did this on the I tend to suck
- 54:39it all. That's gonna be on migrave side. He sucked it all up.
- 54:46But then at the end, in the most heroic moment of his life,
- 54:49he gets the chair. No, don't put me in the chair.
- 54:52No, I don't want to do it. Okay, So all the kids
- 54:53like, man, this guy's a pussy and he saved his well life for
- 54:59crime. Also not very realistic nineteen thirty dialogue and guards are pussy. I
- 55:05have to I have to watch this now, just the end at least.
- 55:07Anyway, you can probably find it on YouTube. Yeah, I will be
- 55:10doing well. You can also occasionally find your pals down to one guy.
- 55:14Dwight then reads the paper which has her Marg's address and her code is Indeed,
- 55:19that was another one of my trivia questions. The area code is hashtag
- 55:22three or five seven. That's not the area codes. Isn't that the code
- 55:24for the security system. That's what I said, you said for it is
- 55:28the area code. Well that's not what I'm meant. But you're taking me
- 55:32literally, now, what's the problem with you? Then they watching it,
- 55:35she is scratchy the Unnatural, but it's interrupted when Dwight the news report for
- 55:39Dwight escaping and he says he will turning himself in. Was he finished?
- 55:44And they say that seems more than fair. The Unnatural win for a very
- 55:46long time, it seemed, did it. Yeah? The issues s actually
- 55:50and then didn't get an end. No, just kept going and going and
- 55:52going. Yeah, they go and go and go and go and go.
- 55:55Then we get a montage of Dwight watching Marge, whether you from behind it
- 56:00on the jumbo tron to the to the tune of Australian band men it works,
- 56:04who can have been there? And then it is Moe watching her in
- 56:07the dressing room. I do like the gag of him being in the bron
- 56:10car not yes, are you finding that all these all the cars do look
- 56:15alike that when you go to the like the supermarket car park, like I
- 56:19like that car. I'm like, it's every other fucking car I've ever scene.
- 56:21Yeah, you and I have basically exactly the same car. Cars are
- 56:24just cars. Cars Now, you don't get You're not getting a lot of
- 56:28variety of color, of shape, even and everything. People, we're all
- 56:35we're all driving around little boxes. Sad man. It makes me sad.
- 56:39I justly don't drive all that often anymore, unless I'm driving a kid somewhere.
- 56:43I'm just I'm just here, either a taxi service or I'm here.
- 56:47But why go out? Really going to be back here eventually? Wild life
- 56:53now man, But they say that the Platt they go to the Plasta Mountain
- 56:57thing park, It's already takes it to Dialbit's flying keep you cool with a
- 57:00Dibet theme playing in the background. A few other rise there, and he
- 57:02wants a day just so he can remember what it was like before he got
- 57:06abandoned and she but he still won't put the gun down. He's going to
- 57:08be pointing it through his jacket. Crusty, Uh and h would have a
- 57:12bit of exchange here, Krusty, I haven't seen you since that terrifying day.
- 57:17Uh, you'll have to be way more specific. We were hostages at
- 57:22the bank. Oh yeah, sorry, I offered your life for my safety.
- 57:28Look, it's Marge with right. I said it was a spark between
- 57:32them, and you said, no way, I saw it. I just
- 57:37didn't feel like talking to you. Wait, something screwy here. I'm calling
- 57:42the cops. But then they point out the cops and they are shooting the
- 57:45ducks, not actual people. And then Lou says there's a hostly situation.
- 57:51And this is what Wigham says, Wong and actually no. Wigham says he's
- 57:52not gonna do anything, doesn't he at first? And he says that monkey
- 57:54will make a better cheat than either toy monkey or something. Eh. I
- 57:58don't know. Why not have a minute? We ark within this episode of
- 58:01you know, Chief Wigan being which tries to do redeemhi stuff at the end
- 58:05on the pirate ship. The ship, Yeah, I guess, okay,
- 58:07there was. That's why Dwight then saved the day by jumping into the cogs
- 58:12of the ride, throwing his body upon the gears. Dwight basically gets caught
- 58:15sent back to prison. Homer se is gonna be one of the four amigos
- 58:17now to get some odd jobs for him on the outside. And then Dwight
- 58:21gives Marge a little soap thing that he carved out which says, you chet
- 58:24up the guard by a knife, the guard behind me. I can't do
- 58:27that. This is a thought, so you can keep it. And that's
- 58:29the end of the episode. And that's the end of the episode. Yeah,
- 58:31I mean this was better than what we've had so far this season.
- 58:37M I think I'm enjoying the guest stars. Yes, the last couple of
- 58:40episodes, the guest roles have been much more what classic Simpsons would do,
- 58:45where they're playing a character as opposed to hey, look it's so and so
- 58:47as Yeah, I was just about to say, we've talked about this recently,
- 58:51but yeah, it's good having an actor and a name brand on board,
- 58:54but it's not someone who's so famous, like it's so and so.
- 58:58It's like it's Steep a shaming, isn't it? Let him act the man
- 59:00cook And it was the usual Marge helping somebody story, but at least this
- 59:04time it kind of got flipped where but justified in what she did. But
- 59:07she was one letting the other person down, which was a nice change.
- 59:12Indeed, what do we learn bomb? What you learned from the episode with
- 59:15Davis? That you could call it the electric chair? But why do that
- 59:17when you can call it the killer? What couch, the death Davenport,
- 59:21the electric lap, the crow cooker or the scorch stool? What a we
- 59:24you did? Theate notes I did first time crazy man? Well I learned
- 59:31that negotiator it's not worth watching. And the dude who was not al Pacino
- 59:37in DoD D Afternoon, what was his name? John Kazzar was married to
- 59:39Meryl Streep. They were married life partner. Yes, forward, your names
- 59:45will be it's the guy Davis New Name Championship for season nineteen. It's round
- 59:50four, but the current leaderboard stands at this in first position on five points
- 59:54Kyle Clever Kyle Muldoon in third position, sorry, second position. On three
- 1:00:00points, we have Adam Moorehouse, Jared Hornby and Phil Hawkins and Jay Brother
- 1:00:06in third position. On two points we have Heath Appleby. What have we
- 1:00:08got this week? What do we have this week? Okay? One point
- 1:00:12goes to hell or high stalker. That's Phil Hawkins, which means he is
- 1:00:17now outright second position as it currently stands before we get to the end of
- 1:00:22this round. So still Phil. He is on four points now he was
- 1:00:24on two I actually know was he on three? No? You got one
- 1:00:28point there, he's now on four. Yes, you get said, yes,
- 1:00:30no worries all right? Two points go to don't day Afternoon or they
- 1:00:35always get you with the dose? Don't they? That works though, dot
- 1:00:37day Afternoon. That's a good name, really does. I probably would preferred
- 1:00:39that title. Then what we actually got do day Afternoon? I think?
- 1:00:44So yeah? I like it. That's all Adam Moorehouse. That puts Adam
- 1:00:49Now oh he's now even first on five points with Clever kle let Kyle gets
- 1:00:54the three points. What have we got? Well? Who gave us this
- 1:00:58three point winner? Thief and the Coddler. Oh, not bad. It's
- 1:01:02neither of those two people. It's actually nobody who's ever been on the leader
- 1:01:06board yet this season. It's David Mott. MO real plethora of people so
- 1:01:09far. I like it, absolutely a plethora. Well done, Yes,
- 1:01:14Moskie done, David Mott so clever. Kyle and adamore House in first position
- 1:01:19on five points, Phil Hawkins in second on four it's going to earn that
- 1:01:22Jay, and a third position on three points is both David Mott and Jared
- 1:01:28Hornby. Thank you guys for supporting us here at four fig just can't remember
- 1:01:30everyone to be a part of the Guy Davis New Dan Championship. You're just
- 1:01:32going to be a supporter of ours on Patreon. Al Right, mister Davis,
- 1:01:37It is now time for the mail bag for this week's show. Open
- 1:01:39up that mail bag. Bail is here now before we start this week's mail
- 1:01:46bab, mister Daves, we have a bit of a public notice, don't
- 1:01:50we. We do. Indeed, we hit pause on record and we had
- 1:01:53a long discussion, by which I mean Dando talked and I nodded my head.
- 1:01:59So take it because usually it's guy talking me, it's nodding my head
- 1:02:01during the podcast, indeed, but I usually just talk shit, whereas Dano
- 1:02:07actually came up with strategy and plan. So with the mail bags, right,
- 1:02:10so we get into an era of The Simpsons where people are enjoying listening
- 1:02:15to us talk about the episodes. They don't necessarily have many, we hope,
- 1:02:19memories of the episodes, and we thought with the mail bag, they
- 1:02:22sort of pad the episodes out a bit long. Sometimes they sort of drag
- 1:02:24on, not not dragon, but you know, they get a bit too
- 1:02:27long. So we thought, what what we're gonna do now is to shave
- 1:02:30things up a bit. Is there's been episodes specific mail bags for god knows
- 1:02:35how long. What we're gonna do now is shake it up, and we
- 1:02:37just want a general mail because the mail bag itself from the from the Free
- 1:02:40Feet listeners, the Simpsons mailbag at gmail dot com is somewhat dried up.
- 1:02:45And we do this show and it feels like sometimes you're just sort of like
- 1:02:49screaming out into the vortex of nothing. And if we don't hear back from
- 1:02:52you guys we heard from the pages, we don't hear you guys from listening
- 1:02:54on the free we won't hear from you. It feels like are you actually
- 1:02:57listening? So we want to hear from you example of you, Dan.
- 1:03:00We want to hear from you guys every week now right in Simpson's Mailbag at
- 1:03:05gmail dot com. Because what we're gonna do is every month. We're not
- 1:03:07gonna be doing episode specific mailbags at the end of the episodes anymore. This
- 1:03:10would be the final mailbag at the end of an episode, So a bit
- 1:03:13of history here for figure discount, We're gonna be doing a monthly mail bag
- 1:03:16whi'ch just ask, guying down to anything. It can be Simpsons related,
- 1:03:20it can be whatever you want, and that will be going up as a
- 1:03:22bonus episode at the end of the month. So you're still gonna be getting
- 1:03:25Simpsons reviews throughout the month, but then as a bonus episode as an extra,
- 1:03:30you're gonna be getting a monthly ask, guying down or anything mailbag episode
- 1:03:32as well, because we feel if we just want to talk about more other
- 1:03:37random stuff as opposed to just this episode. Because sometimes it can be hard
- 1:03:39to think, what's an episode based around a question? Based around this episode,
- 1:03:43there's less and less questions coming through, So Simpson's Mailbag at gmail dot
- 1:03:47com. If you are listening now and you haven't written anything in, we
- 1:03:51would love to hear from you. It's one of my many joys of doing
- 1:03:52this podcast is hearing from all the listeners. So please do right in Simpsons
- 1:03:57Mailbag at gmail dot com and you will be part of the New Guy and
- 1:04:01Dando monthly mail bag specials. Wow, you got all that? I think
- 1:04:06I think I got most of that. Basically, the point is you're gonna
- 1:04:09be getting no mail back then of the regular episodes, but you'll be getting
- 1:04:12a monthly extended mail bags as a bonus, as a bone, as a
- 1:04:15bonus. Just sometimes this is fun to sit down and have to review something
- 1:04:18and just talk. That's true, that's the plan. So we're gonna be
- 1:04:21doing that going forward. They may be listening to that, don't you guys
- 1:04:26do that anyway. The first question here comes from Sam pass So pas papas
- 1:04:32rising contributor apparently in the four figure discount Patreon community. Is that like a
- 1:04:38little official yeah, yeah, so rising contributor. Yeah, because Andrew JP
- 1:04:42is Andrew is the first first to comment on that one, but it wasn't
- 1:04:44the first part. So he's an all star contributor. Hey, now,
- 1:04:47so, Sam says, are there any movies that I considered the greatest of
- 1:04:50all time or cult classics that you guys don't like or are not for you?
- 1:04:55Mine is Blade Runner. I have tried at least five times to watch
- 1:04:58it, and I just can't sit through it. I've never seen Forrest Gump
- 1:05:00in full. I was too young to enjoy it when I was younger.
- 1:05:02Tom Hanks is wonderful, but I have no desire to see that one missing
- 1:05:05out there. Andrew Blade Runner, I remember watching it and really enjoying it,
- 1:05:09but I haven't had any desire to sort of revisit it, and I
- 1:05:12haven't seen the sequel either. I quite like the sequel, and I quite
- 1:05:15like Blade Runner. I'm not necessarily someone who's like it's the deepest thing of
- 1:05:19all time. It's certainly one that I revisit. But yeah, I mean,
- 1:05:24oh, this is an interesting question. I'm not sure how many sort
- 1:05:27of goats there are that I'm like. I've never seen the Planet of the
- 1:05:30Eight movies, haven't you. No, I've bought the new ones because you
- 1:05:33recommended them to me. I'm going to go back in movies at the old
- 1:05:36If you said, how fucking weird there. I've seen clips of them and
- 1:05:39I'm like, this seems so bizarre, like the Underground one. Yeah,
- 1:05:43absolutely, all on Disney Plus now everything leading up to Kingdom of the Plenty
- 1:05:48Apps, which is now in cinemas. Oh gosh, this one's on me.
- 1:05:54This is more classic comedy. I just never really have been able to
- 1:05:57get into the Monty Python Python films. I'm glad you mentioned that. Actually,
- 1:06:00yeah, person all, yeah, continue, that's just that's just that's
- 1:06:03it. That was just I don't want to go on a hate range.
- 1:06:05No, I don't want I'm not saying they're bad now. I remember watching
- 1:06:09them at a couple of sort of house parties and some of my friends were
- 1:06:12just cackling of laughed at and I'm thinking, and is it just me and
- 1:06:15I had a touch. It's just I know, it's it's differends who were
- 1:06:19wrong. I can see why you're finding this funny, but for me personally,
- 1:06:23I just wasn't really getting the big WHOA, Okay, great this is
- 1:06:27and I know it is amazing comedy. It's just not for me. Yeah,
- 1:06:30No, I get the same feeling. Actually, I think there's growing
- 1:06:34up there was a lot of English comedy that really twigged with a lot of
- 1:06:39people and it just became part of their personality or part of their sort of
- 1:06:43comic DNA. And yeah, Monty Path is certainly one of those. The
- 1:06:48Goodies is yeah, not to be confused with the Goonies. Not confused with
- 1:06:54the goonies, which is also not really my bag either. Yeah, you
- 1:06:57probably went at the right age for it. No, No, you're late
- 1:07:00teens, late teens. And if it's a weird movie, yeah, you
- 1:07:03miss it by just like a year or two. And it's like, no,
- 1:07:06that's for kids. It's a very nostalgia film. I'm a grim nip.
- 1:07:10Yeah, I'm looking at here a list movies. I'm gonna throw this
- 1:07:13out there. You're gonna hate me for it, but it's only because I
- 1:07:16love the sequel so much more, but only one. I'm just never being
- 1:07:21sold. I understand this set up the franchise, right, I understand it
- 1:07:26is what it is, but I think the sequel was just so much more
- 1:07:29entertaining to me. Oh yeah, look, Aliens is a bono far crab
- 1:07:32please, And I'm the same with Terminator as well, too, so much,
- 1:07:36I think because it came out when I was a kid. Okay,
- 1:07:39I thought we got that nostalgia for it as well. But I just love
- 1:07:41teaching so much more than T One. I get where you're coming from.
- 1:07:44I'm the opposite, okay really yeah. T One for me over T too,
- 1:07:46Okay, absolutely, And I wouldn't say Alien over Aliens for mine.
- 1:07:51They both they scratch different niches, but it's equally satisfied different films altogether,
- 1:07:57very much. So. Yeah, I don't know if it's this is necessarily
- 1:08:01something that's regarded as like a goat or anything like that, but I'm just
- 1:08:04not a Doctor Who guy at all. I've never watched it, same as
- 1:08:08Star Trek. I tried watching The First Person Next Generation the other night.
- 1:08:11I think it may have just been too tired, but I watched this going
- 1:08:15maybe it just isn't for me. Could well be the thing, Yeah,
- 1:08:17I mean it could be just the time that it was made and also me
- 1:08:20maybe just not in the Star Trek. I mean, it's not right,
- 1:08:23not my thing either. The saying is bad. It's just not my thing.
- 1:08:27It's funny. I've got friends who are very into Doctor Who, and
- 1:08:30they will have their like Facebook check group or whatever, and they'll be very
- 1:08:35hardcore fan base. Oh we bleed. Yeah, I'm not not check with
- 1:08:39like a DM like you know, like a private message group about doctor who.
- 1:08:43Yeah, And occasionally one of them will forget which thread they're in and
- 1:08:46I'll start talking one that. I mean, it's like it's like in that
- 1:08:49episode, was like, you're in the wrong thread, go back, go
- 1:08:53back with your other friends to a guy said he's always death. Oh shit,
- 1:08:56hey, yes, it's two more, replied Andrew J. P.
- 1:09:00See what else he said? Sam said, Jenny will make you want to
- 1:09:04jump off a bridge, one of the most annoying characters. No, dude,
- 1:09:10I don't think she did it pretty hard. Yeah, she did as
- 1:09:14a child, and she never really got the help that she needed support she
- 1:09:15needed, so she was locked into a pattern of bad behavior. I did
- 1:09:19see a meme once. We're saying, I feel like we completely forgot the
- 1:09:24fact that Jenny was to heal in that film, and she only came back
- 1:09:26to see Forrest when she realized she had no one else. She got AIDS
- 1:09:29and she wanted a dump a kid on somebody, And I was like,
- 1:09:30that's I think that's the plot of the film. I think that's a bit
- 1:09:33uncharitable. Yes, she made some bad decisions, but she didn't have the
- 1:09:38supports around her to guide her in the right direction. And yes she had
- 1:09:43Forest They're always supporting her. But he wasn't going to be putting food on
- 1:09:45the table, was he. I guess he probably was hatock but in the
- 1:09:53But was he rich throughout the film or was he just rich at the end?
- 1:09:57Uh? I think he was well known and relatively popular and therefore probably
- 1:10:01had a little bit going for him. But when I said the end of
- 1:10:05the film, I mean, like that his story he's telling throughout the film,
- 1:10:09doesn't he doesn't He gave Bubba's mum some of the shares apple or something,
- 1:10:14right, I think so it was a shares shrimp company in the shrimp
- 1:10:16company. Yeah, he does pretty well throughout, But I mean he was
- 1:10:19a college football star, that's right. Yeah, And I think they do
- 1:10:23pretty well, not necessarily financially well for themselves, but you know, it
- 1:10:26does Jenny pretty pretty good to be on the arm of Forest Gump all American.
- 1:10:30Yeah, there's a lot to dive into with Forest Gump, but I
- 1:10:31think we really should maybe dive in properly. Yeah, Andrew says here,
- 1:10:35I've heard that the ending and what Jenny does is controversial and seen enough parodies
- 1:10:39of it to get the gist. That's enough for me to give it a
- 1:10:41miss. Plenty of other excellent Tom makes movies to enjoy instead. No,
- 1:10:43watch, you have to see Forest Gump. Yeah. Forest Gump is arguably
- 1:10:47he's defining role besides for kids Woody as in Toy Story. Oh, I
- 1:10:53think when Tom Hanks does two hundred years from Now, because stay around for
- 1:10:56it. For Tom Hanks, life is like a box of chocolates. Yeah,
- 1:10:59it's going to be. It's going to be. Forrest Gump star Tom
- 1:11:01Hanks died today at the age of two hundred and sixty eight. Everyone.
- 1:11:08Everyone obviously an eder jepy, but it feels like everyone's seen Forrest Gump.
- 1:11:12Yeah, absolutely, and quoted it at least once in their life. If
- 1:11:15you see somebody run, it's impossible to say Forest run, Forest run.
- 1:11:18Yeah. This sounds very fence. Sitting on my part as listened to what
- 1:11:25the Mail Day podcast. This is nothing about the Simpsons. Yeah, I
- 1:11:28like it. It's fun. This is a really good test. Runds what
- 1:11:30we're going to do Forest Gump is a really simple movie and a pretty deep
- 1:11:35movie. And I don't mean deep, it's like, oh, it's full
- 1:11:36of profound mess. It's like you can read a lot into this, or
- 1:11:40you can you can really pull it apart in a lot of ways, like
- 1:11:43is Jenny a villain? Is she an opportunist? Is you know she actually
- 1:11:46the love of forest life? I think it's meant to be that deep though,
- 1:11:49is it? It's what it's like meant to be a series of events.
- 1:11:55Yeah, but I think the reason that's successful as it has been,
- 1:11:58and you know why I cans to sort of resonate. You can pick it
- 1:12:02apart. There's a there's a fair bit of meat on their bone. Yeah,
- 1:12:05you can take it as Oh, it's a simple story about a simple
- 1:12:11man who gets lucky or you know, is in the right place at the
- 1:12:14right time, or who's innate goodness enables him to sort of flourish. And
- 1:12:18I still say this is one of my favorite acting performances of all time.
- 1:12:21This scene, I've said this is when he won the oscar. When he
- 1:12:26finds out, oh your boy is his son? Hes Jenny and doesn't say
- 1:12:30the words, but he asked does he have any just but the look and
- 1:12:33it's like, fucking hell. Oh yeah, that's one of the best active
- 1:12:38performances I've ever seen. Yeah. They were talking about on another podcast recently
- 1:12:43and talking about this scene, and I was out walking and I was like,
- 1:12:45I've got to get home and I've got to put that on YouTube and
- 1:12:46I watched it. I was like, the way he just points to himself
- 1:12:51because because he's aware of himself. Oh yeah, absolutely, Yeah, it's
- 1:12:57it's it's a it's a fucking magnificent It's not it's not an I Am Sam
- 1:13:00situation. No, no, no, I mean where Sam seems someone sort
- 1:13:04of plays role. He's like, he's oblivious Sean Pan God bless him,
- 1:13:08very very very very very good actor and really goes for it in a dedicated
- 1:13:12way with I Am Sam. I love I Am Sam. I do like,
- 1:13:15yeah, but to quote Jack and trap Ganda, you went fu low
- 1:13:17Wood, Yeah, never got word And I don't know You're right about that
- 1:13:23scene though. In Forrest Company Man, it's it's so it's it's heartbreaking and
- 1:13:27heartwarming. It's fantasticause it sits next to him watching the TV. Yeah,
- 1:13:30it's great. No, just Hanks saying He's the most beautiful thing I've ever
- 1:13:32seen that ship. Yeah, you're fucking dead, all right, Andrew Swan,
- 1:13:39did you know that Steve Ami was a fire fighter nine to eleven?
- 1:13:42Maybe? He says a kid. I think it's a bit of a meme.
- 1:13:48Did you know? Fact? At this point? How do you?
- 1:13:50How do you do? Fellow kids? There's anothermi meme for you? What
- 1:13:54else do you this comment before we talk about this stuff, by the way,
- 1:13:58not at all. How what else do you like by Steve Shemy?
- 1:14:00I hope you have fun with these questions. I think we may have answered
- 1:14:02this, Andrew, I think we did. The first chapter of this podcast
- 1:14:05was Steve for Shemy Love Chris, Melissa Cravats Krevets Crevets Marge did everything she
- 1:14:15could think of to avoid seeing Dwight in prison. What is your most recent
- 1:14:18task that you know you should do but avoid all costs? What have you
- 1:14:21been doing whilst procrastinating about it? The shelves are still not up and the
- 1:14:28buddy's feet are comfy, But I feel pretty good about myself in general.
- 1:14:32Mine is selling all the pops and shit that I've got, because get this,
- 1:14:36I sold some pops on eBay on the weekend. Right eBay charge a
- 1:14:43selling fee on the postage. Now what So I received eighty one dollars right
- 1:14:48for it went for eighty one dollars. This pop that I sold right and
- 1:14:51Danny Phantom Pop and then this person was international. I just put up there
- 1:14:58in my description. Let me know if you're in national before you pay,
- 1:15:00I need to work at the exact cost. I just put thirty dollars as
- 1:15:02a basic thing, but don't pay it yet. We're gonna work out exactly
- 1:15:04what it would cost depending on your destination. Of course, that is wet
- 1:15:08and paid it anyway because people don't read their idiots, so they pay thirty
- 1:15:11dollars for that. And then it was like an extra sixteen dollars or something,
- 1:15:15some sort of tax or whatever. But I got charge of selling fee
- 1:15:16based on how much they have to pay for the postage. So I'm eBay,
- 1:15:20what the fuck is going on here? So I said to Nicolas,
- 1:15:24I'm just gonna get because I ended up getting ninety one dollars. So it's
- 1:15:27going to cost me forty six dollars to post this thing, and they gave
- 1:15:29you ten dollars for it. It's cost I'm paying thirty six dollars to post
- 1:15:32this thing. I ain't doing that shit, absolutely not. All right,
- 1:15:35so what's what's your plan. I'm going to say that my son's stood on
- 1:15:39the popping and damage. Now I'm just going to say it's no longer for
- 1:15:41sale. I'm looking. I'm not. I'm going to be I should be
- 1:15:44getting eighty one dollars for this item minus selling fees, and then they just
- 1:15:46pay the shipping costs. No. No, they're basically making me pay the
- 1:15:50ship it to this guy and using Germany. Don't know about this. It's
- 1:15:55something seems wrong here. It feels like we're at the end times of capitalism
- 1:16:00and everybody is just trying to get the bag anyway they can. What I
- 1:16:04was going to call it to the movies to see if right. I thought,
- 1:16:08I'll order some tickets because of the baby session was the set. The
- 1:16:10cinema was empty, and I was about to buy the tickets, and I
- 1:16:13thought, it's a six dollar fifty booking fee. How about I'm going there
- 1:16:16anyway. The fucking room's empty. I might just get a human to serve
- 1:16:20me and not pay a booking fee. What the hell. So it's like
- 1:16:25I went to the cinema, bought the ticket, no booking fee, but
- 1:16:27if I ordered it on my phone, it's a booking fee. Is there's
- 1:16:30no human into who is worth the booking fee going to? Who Isn't tech
- 1:16:33meant to reduce these costs, I mean I would. It's like when you
- 1:16:36buy a ticket for a concert of booking fee, I'm like, well,
- 1:16:40what are you? But I can the electricity to keep the computers plugged in,
- 1:16:44But I can go to the cinema, have to deal to a staff,
- 1:16:47deal with a staff member who's being paid a wage that you're paying as
- 1:16:51well, and I don't have to pay a booking fee and get it.
- 1:16:56But you take the human out of the situation, and I have to pay
- 1:16:58a booking fee. You take the wage out of the situation, and I
- 1:17:02have. It's sky man. So I just didn't buy. I bought tickets
- 1:17:06there and say six dollars fifty sudden I get the supermarket. Now I'm getting
- 1:17:13old, But I got a super supermarket the other day, and I thought
- 1:17:15I could get in that long ass fucking line for the self serve and serve
- 1:17:19myself, or I could wait an extra two minutes and have a human serve
- 1:17:23me. Oh yeah, And I went and I got to the end of
- 1:17:26it, and I was like, you know what was nice being asked how
- 1:17:29my fucking day was? Yeah? How many servers have you got in the
- 1:17:32in the supermarket? It was free going right, And I was like,
- 1:17:35and you know what it was? So this was a lovely moment actually.
- 1:17:39So there was an old lady there and there was an old guy in front
- 1:17:42of me, and it was gonna be me and the old guy in front
- 1:17:44of me turned around and saw that only had sort of of a basket for
- 1:17:45me, and saw look a bit of a trolley. He goes, he
- 1:17:47can get it for me, mate, Yeah, let's me go before him.
- 1:17:49I didn't have my Wool Worst card of me, so I let him
- 1:17:51clime to the points for the woolwors card nicely. I'll get it back.
- 1:17:54But it's just nice going. I am having a good day. Thanks.
- 1:17:57Oh, this is human interaction. We're forgetting what it's like. Yeah.
- 1:18:00Look, we're trying not to play too many favorites here at full finger discount.
- 1:18:04But I think you'll notice that, Aldie, they've still got people at
- 1:18:11the doing the checkout as opposed to you doing the self service at other supermarkets.
- 1:18:15We told they had these. We sound so old now, I don't
- 1:18:19fucking care. It's it's getting to a point where we need to start realizing.
- 1:18:23My mental state has been the best lately, and I've realized going to
- 1:18:27the getting served by a person and going and dealing with the person and buy
- 1:18:30my hoppol and paying my ticket that way, just seeing people were social animals.
- 1:18:34We need social with people. It makes you feel better. Internet.
- 1:18:42It's good for a lot of things, but it has fucked a lot of
- 1:18:44things up, or it is fucking a lot of things. It's not fucking
- 1:18:46things up. It'll be Andrew JP with this question, aside from Elaine,
- 1:18:50what's your favorite Julia Lewis, Louis Dryvers. He's written diapers, It's strips.
- 1:18:56Threw me off there. Louis drivers role. I love her as Selena
- 1:18:59Mayer in VPS. She's utterly perfect as a narcissistic, power hungry politician who
- 1:19:05will step over anyone to get in her way. I've never watched VEEP.
- 1:19:09I've only said I haven't seen all of it, but what I have seen
- 1:19:11I've really enjoyed. Yes, any other particular roles you like of hers.
- 1:19:15Yeah, she's been a couple of movies lately, just some sort of low
- 1:19:18key she has a podcast apparently, of course she does. It's not our
- 1:19:21turf JLD. I love you, but still, you know, let the
- 1:19:26up and comers and the up and comers mid fifties division, I have a
- 1:19:31go jail. There has been in a couple of movies. Well, when
- 1:19:34I say recently, I think one's like maybe ten years old now. But
- 1:19:38the movie is called Enough Said? Yeah, what's with Sopranos with Gandalfini his
- 1:19:43last role was his last role. Yeah, it's a sort of a rom
- 1:19:45goum about you know, these people who are a little later in life.
- 1:19:49Are we lucky that we've got the Sopranos finished? Before that happened? It
- 1:19:53came out of fucking nowhere? Oh absolutely, it would have just ruined the
- 1:19:57show. It was just so great that we finally got that. We got
- 1:19:59it before. It was not two years later. I was about five years
- 1:20:01later, wasn't it. Maybe? Yeah that was a fucking loss. Yeah,
- 1:20:05miss Gandalfini, that did right, But yeah, yeah, it's a
- 1:20:11romantic comedy called Enough Said, with Julie Luid Drivers and James Gandalfoeni as this
- 1:20:15couple who are sort of navigating a late in life romance. And she was
- 1:20:17recently the lead in another comedy by the same director, a terrific writer director
- 1:20:21named Nicole Hole of Center. I believe it. He Branson called you Hurt
- 1:20:26My Feelings, which has one of the great premises. If you're a grady
- 1:20:30person, this will just fucking hit home for you. She's in a very
- 1:20:33happy marriage, a very long term marriage with her husband who's a therapist.
- 1:20:39She's a novelist, and she overhears at a party her husband saying to a
- 1:20:43friend, Yeah, I'm her latest work in progress. It's not very good,
- 1:20:50but he's been being very supportive all the time. No, no,
- 1:20:54keep going. It's great. It's great, but you're saying it's not good.
- 1:20:57And she overhears, like, oh fuck, what else is you know?
- 1:21:00What else is he not telling me about her marriage? It's a terrific
- 1:21:02idea and it's really good. She's's terrific in it. So yeah, jailed,
- 1:21:05I mean, I really liked her voice roles in A Bug's Life.
- 1:21:11Well, in Bug's Life, she is the princess, the main like so
- 1:21:15flicks Princess What is a Bug's Life A Bugs Life cast because we had space
- 1:21:24in that as the villain. Yeah. Is Dave Foley from Kids in the
- 1:21:27Horn? Yeah, yeah, yeah, she played Princess Adda. Okay,
- 1:21:31yes, so she's basically like the main female in the film. She's great
- 1:21:36now she's also the mother. Onward a really good movie that. Oh yeah,
- 1:21:41that's some of the death of COVID. Yeah, yeah, because the
- 1:21:44Pixar Well it's Chris Cratton, Tom Holland. Yeah, it's a really good
- 1:21:47movie. My kids love it. Yeah, if you ever checked that Onward
- 1:21:50Worth, it's worth watching. Same with Luca. Luca's another film that came
- 1:21:54out during the whole COVID time? Is that Is that Pixar? Is that
- 1:21:57just Disney Animation? There's a lot of those. It's like incanto, Is
- 1:22:00that just Disney or is that Pixar? Luca is twenty by what Disney Pictures
- 1:22:06and Pixar Animation? And then Onward I'm pretty sure that's Pixar as well.
- 1:22:13Is Disney picks us is on the poster? Yeah, there we go.
- 1:22:15Yeah, that's good be as well. Cool, You've got some recommendations there.
- 1:22:18Andrew JP as well, as you know, you're big upping deep,
- 1:22:21which of course you should do. Yes, all right, all do one
- 1:22:25more question here. That's all we have left. So, Harris Harrison McClure,
- 1:22:29outside of any Sandman films, what's your favorite Stevemi role? I really
- 1:22:33enjoyed him in the Soprano Sopranos, of course. Yeah. Yeah, we're
- 1:22:38pretty much discussed enough about Shemi, right. I think for me my favorite
- 1:22:42wi always be Billy Madison and con Air. They're the two the rest of
- 1:22:44my dogs, of course. Yeah, he's fantastic in resond Yes, oh
- 1:22:48gosh, yeah. Look, I'm gonna go to end this Deemi films.
- 1:22:54I'm going to say the title and you I would be going, yeah,
- 1:22:59you don't. Look, I'm gonna be the titles out of you. It's
- 1:23:00me a bit of a game, guys. Initial reaction whether it's gonna be
- 1:23:03good or not Steve Bismi films, All right, I'll read it the first
- 1:23:08twenty Escape from La uh No, not worth it is in like the movie
- 1:23:14or him h It's a very Steve Bishmi performance, but not worth it.
- 1:23:18So no, not worth it, all right, Connair? Yes, yes,
- 1:23:21twenty eight days. I don't really remember him in it. But that's
- 1:23:25the Sandra Bullock. Yeah, it goes to rehab one. Yep, so
- 1:23:29we don't remember the reds of our dogs of course, Absolutelynk Cobbler. That's
- 1:23:33a Sandman one. Yeah, twenty fourteen. Yeah, I've never seen I
- 1:23:36never seen it. Fargo, Well, yep, me mob, how do
- 1:23:41you spell it? Then says underneath, who do I Gotta Kill? Me?
- 1:23:45Mob? Who do I Go to Kill? Nineteen ninety four? Never
- 1:23:47heard of it? Who Do I Got to Kill? Also known as Me
- 1:23:51and the Mob Sorry, is a nineteen ninety four comedy film directed and co
- 1:23:55written by Frank Rioni Rate Rain One, with James Lorinz and Rocco Simonelli also
- 1:24:00writing. The film star Sandra Bullock, John Costello, to Steve Amy,
- 1:24:03and James Lawrenz. Okay, I've heard of James Lawrence, a cutsy writer
- 1:24:08turns hit man for a story thanks to his mobster uncle who gets him the
- 1:24:14job. Okay, this is a very people seem to like that. Quentin
- 1:24:17Tarantino. I'm gonna try and make a movie in that vein. Yes,
- 1:24:20all right, So that one's and so far the dead don't die. Yeah,
- 1:24:25that's not bad. The recent one. Yeah, with Adam Driver and
- 1:24:29Bill Murray. It's a Jim Jarmush film, Mister Deeds. Of course,
- 1:24:31he's in the Samman films. Yeah, he's just he's a sad man man.
- 1:24:34He's a regular. Yeah, Armageddon. I can't rememb who is again
- 1:24:38one of the He's rock. He's the comic relief of He's part of Bruce
- 1:24:42Willis's rock. Count Bruce Willis's relief. He's perfect for that role though.
- 1:24:45Isn't he the guy who can you can kill off but you love him?
- 1:24:47Oh? Yeah, I think you can get like a rule emotion out Steve
- 1:24:50Shemy not again? Does he survive? I'm again? Probably? I think
- 1:24:55so? Is it just uh what's his face? Spoiler alert? Affleck comes
- 1:24:59back? He said them all back, doesn't he? Which is the one
- 1:25:02where a guy goes blind? Is that is that mission to Mars? Maybe?
- 1:25:06Maybe? I don't think Owen Wilson read the movie where Wilson survives,
- 1:25:11and I don't think Michael Clarke Duncan survives and armaged a movie. I remember
- 1:25:14there's a movie where and it's the dude from Drop Dead Fred who plays the
- 1:25:17love interest of Phoebe Cats, but he's he goes blind. Something happens like
- 1:25:25bright lives blind him. And then he's talking to his daughter and his wife
- 1:25:28I think back home via screen and they don't know he's gone blind, and
- 1:25:31they're telling him your taught us doing this, now your wife's doing that.
- 1:25:34Okay, yep, no, not important. Let's pick two more films and
- 1:25:40will wrap up this mail bag, all right, Desprito worth it? Yeah,
- 1:25:43absolutely earlier Robert Rodriguez movie with Antonio Bandetas and one more. Pick a
- 1:25:47film that I don't think I have seen things to do in Denver when you're
- 1:25:54dead. Well that's that's written by Connor's Scott Rosenberg. Oh okay, did
- 1:25:58you mention that before? Did you? I did? Yeah, I think
- 1:26:00you play. I don't know if he's mister Shush in that, but he's
- 1:26:03like's missed the names in Reservoir Dogs. I think he's like the the evil
- 1:26:12hit man in it, and he doesn't say a word, and he's just
- 1:26:14like, but you look like Steve a. Shemi, so you're kind of
- 1:26:15terrifying. He's got the perfect face where you can buy him as a sadistic
- 1:26:19serial killer but also as a goofball at the exact same time, but they
- 1:26:23have to change his face. Yeah, I mean in Reservoir Dogs. It's
- 1:26:26great because he seems like he's not out of place among these other tough guys
- 1:26:30like Harvey, Guy Teller, Michael Madison and that. But he quickly shows
- 1:26:33that he's just as ruthless and just as Yeah, he's very dedicated to his
- 1:26:39code as a professional. It's a really good performance. And yeah, Steve
- 1:26:42Amy, he's great. It was Mission to mass by the way, and
- 1:26:44his name is Cavin Smith, Cavanne Smith, Varne Smith. I don't think
- 1:26:48it's it's not the love interest from Drop Dead Fred. But he's been in
- 1:26:51films such as The Perfect Bride, You Had Me at Aloha? So nothing
- 1:26:57really You held Me at Aloha? Oh that sounds fantastic. That's good.
- 1:27:00That's pretty good at it. That suns that if you don't be met sand
- 1:27:03Man, that sounds like we have to lay He's Steve won appone in this
- 1:27:13movie. We're in a way, right, what are you doing? Chris?
- 1:27:16Who's Who's Kevin? Kevin James? He's lost weight now, I know,
- 1:27:20yeah, popped up? How Netflix has that annoying thing I you can
- 1:27:24turn it off where it starts playing ship before you watch it. We got
- 1:27:27a Netflix but it popped up and I watched like a minute of it.
- 1:27:29I was like, Um, you're funny, but yeah, you're funny when
- 1:27:33you're fat. But I mean, I like the fact that he's lost weight.
- 1:27:36Way Knight's lost weight, John Goodban' last weight. It's great people actually
- 1:27:40looking after themselves true. Way Night. Yeah, I was surprised by that.
- 1:27:42Saw a picture of him in something recently. I saw a great clip
- 1:27:45from his because Jason Alexander has a podcast and you're waiting, yeah, and
- 1:27:49Wayne Night was a guest on there, and Jason Alexander I think he was
- 1:27:53expecting a different response, but he goes, I mean, you made reports
- 1:27:56people saying that we were difficult to work with or we were a bit sort
- 1:27:59of cold to the guests and things. And he's like, what did you
- 1:28:03ever think that? Wayne? Wayne goes, you were professionals, and he's
- 1:28:09like, so it's a yes, and he goes, you just you knew
- 1:28:12you were the bigger show on TV. So it's basically, you're here on
- 1:28:15our show, don't fuck it up. And Jason's like, oh, I
- 1:28:18guess we were. I don't know, I kind of respect that. Yeah,
- 1:28:23I respect that. Wayne was just like not you didn't go no,
- 1:28:25no, I respect Jason Alexander saying all that kind of mindsets, like you've
- 1:28:30come to play on Seinfeld, play on Seinfeld. Yeah, don't funk about.
- 1:28:33But way now we'll go. That's just a you're professional, very diplomatic
- 1:28:39of Wayne. All right, guys, this has been our review of what
- 1:28:45episode was it again? I don't know. I don't want to know where
