- 0:00Speaker 1: You start with Charles Berkley, who joins us.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I want to see if he's gonna guarantee? Man, who's
- 0:06Speaker 2: damn what you have?
- 0:07Speaker 3: Surgery? Greg?
- 0:10Speaker 4: Leave me alone?
- 0:11Speaker 3: Man, Blake is what other? What's up?
- 0:15Speaker 4: Jelle?
- 0:16Speaker 3: I'm good Man.
- 0:17Speaker 5: Hey Greg, I'm gonna disagree with you a little bit
- 0:19Speaker 5: on the Kareem thing because you can't name me the
- 0:22Speaker 5: guys Kareem got traded.
- 0:24Speaker 3: For Brian Winners. That's that's not the same. No, No,
- 0:28Speaker 3: you're right, you're right, it's it's not.
- 0:30Speaker 5: But I think, I think, I think the most shocking
- 0:34Speaker 5: thing about this trade is a couple of things. Number One,
- 0:37Speaker 5: you never trade stars for stars. I'm trying to remember.
- 0:42Speaker 5: You know, I've been in the NBA for forty years. Normally,
- 0:44Speaker 5: when you trade a star, you get a bunch of
- 0:45Speaker 5: junk back.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Uh.
- 0:47Speaker 5: This is the first time I can remember when you
- 0:49Speaker 5: got two old NBA players traded for each other. I mean,
- 0:54Speaker 5: obviously I don't remember every trade, but I'm trying to think, Uh,
- 0:59Speaker 5: you guys got a great staffed at behind the scenes.
- 1:01Speaker 5: I don't remember the last time we traded an all
- 1:04Speaker 5: Probably never when you traded an all NBA player for
- 1:07Speaker 5: an All NBA player, So that's probably. And the second
- 1:11Speaker 5: thing is normally when stars get traded, you hear a
- 1:14Speaker 5: lot of rumblings and you just put them up for
- 1:17Speaker 5: the highest bidder. So I think those are the two
- 1:21Speaker 5: first aspects of this trade that are shocking a star
- 1:24Speaker 5: for star and normally, like they didn't go for the
- 1:28Speaker 5: highest bidder, they went for a quick deal and it
- 1:31Speaker 5: was over.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Would you have taken a different approach there? Would you
- 1:34Speaker 1: have gone to other teams to at least see what's
- 1:37Speaker 1: out there, and then if Anthony Davis is the best deal,
- 1:39Speaker 1: the best player you can get, that package was the best,
- 1:41Speaker 1: you go with it, but at least go see what's
- 1:43Speaker 1: out there.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Well, in fairness, they got a hell of a players
- 1:49Speaker 5: Aman Davis, the All NBA player. Like that kind of
- 1:53Speaker 5: goes back to what I said earlier, like if they
- 1:56Speaker 5: take another deal, they might get a bunch of draft
- 1:59Speaker 5: picks and a couple of role players.
- 2:02Speaker 4: They got an all NBA player back, so they unless you.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Get Joker Johannis, I'm trying to think you can NBA
- 2:16Speaker 5: MB be the only other guy.
- 2:17Speaker 3: But you're not taking.
- 2:19Speaker 5: In beany No, you're not taking in b with his
- 2:22Speaker 5: injury history, so they got a really good deal. Now, listen,
- 2:29Speaker 5: the MAVs obviously had to make a decision this summer
- 2:32Speaker 5: whether to give him five years, three hundred and fifty
- 2:34Speaker 5: million dollars.
- 2:36Speaker 3: That's a lot of money.
- 2:37Speaker 5: To give a guy you don't think and stay in shape,
- 2:39Speaker 5: who's always going to be hurt. And let me tell
- 2:43Speaker 5: you something. The only people know Luka Dunjik is to
- 2:47Speaker 5: Dallas Mavericks, guys who've been with him for years, who
- 2:50Speaker 5: are around him every day. He's a great player. He's
- 2:54Speaker 5: a great player. But all us talking heads, they know something.
- 2:59Speaker 5: They must know something we don't know because listen, he's
- 3:04Speaker 5: been hurt. Everybody complains about his conditioning. But once you
- 3:09Speaker 5: give a guy five years, three hundred and fifty million dollars,
- 3:12Speaker 5: y'all are stuck together for life.
- 3:15Speaker 3: So this is going to be.
- 3:17Speaker 5: A great trade to see what happens the next x
- 3:20Speaker 5: amount of years. I think the Mavericks are win because listen,
- 3:25Speaker 5: I don't know who the second best team in the
- 3:26Speaker 5: West is. The Oklahoma City Thunder are terrific, but I
- 3:32Speaker 5: actually think, in my opinion, the MAVs are in that
- 3:35Speaker 5: conversation at the second best team there right now. So
- 3:41Speaker 5: but and the Lakers got what they wanted. They got
- 3:44Speaker 5: a superstar going forward. I do think this kind of
- 3:48Speaker 5: custer into like the Lebron James making all the decisions.
- 3:53Speaker 5: They're like, hey, we love you, Lebron, but we're going
- 3:56Speaker 5: to start what's doing best for the Lakers. That's what
- 4:00Speaker 5: I got out of this trade from a Lakers standpoint, because.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 4:05Speaker 5: I don't know if they didn't come tell Lebron because
- 4:09Speaker 5: number one Clutch Sports is Athonty's agent. But it seems
- 4:13Speaker 5: like to me they're like, hey, you know what, Lebron's
- 4:15Speaker 5: on his last legs. Let's start getting us a start
- 4:20Speaker 5: for the future. And it's gonna be fun to talk
- 4:24Speaker 5: about this trade. Step back and watch who wins the trade.
- 4:28Speaker 5: I think both teams have to win a championship to
- 4:34Speaker 5: say they won the trade. Both teams have to win that.
- 4:39Speaker 5: The only way you can win this trade if you
- 4:41Speaker 5: win the championship. Like I saw Niko say, they probably
- 4:45Speaker 5: got a three to five year window because Kyrie's great,
- 4:48Speaker 5: athlete's great and they got a really good team down there.
- 4:51Speaker 5: The only downside with Luca being twenty five, they probably
- 4:56Speaker 5: got a ten year window. But whoever wins the champions
- 5:00Speaker 5: is going to be the winner. This trade, plain and simple.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Chuck, you hit it on the head, and that's what
- 5:05Speaker 2: you're saying is kind of where I am like. I
- 5:07Speaker 2: think it's a really good trade for both teams for
- 5:10Speaker 2: different reasons, because I think in Dallas's case, Dallas's win
- 5:15Speaker 2: now mode, and you heard Nico talk about he fits
- 5:18Speaker 2: their timeline, him and Kyrie in essence the same age.
- 5:21Speaker 2: They got a really good roster and the one issue
- 5:24Speaker 2: Anthony Davis has always had is I want to play
- 5:28Speaker 2: my natural position before well, they got a two headed
- 5:32Speaker 2: monster at the center position with Lively and Gafford. I
- 5:37Speaker 2: feel like to your point, I feel like they are
- 5:40Speaker 2: if they stay healthy, they are built to be that
- 5:43Speaker 2: team in the Western Conference. OKC has been amazing, but
- 5:47Speaker 2: they match up, They're gonna be hard for people to
- 5:50Speaker 2: score on because they got They don't just have great bigs,
- 5:52Speaker 2: they got great bigs that can play at all three levels.
- 5:55Speaker 2: When you talk about a young Lively, Anthony Davis, as
- 5:59Speaker 2: great as he is defensively, he's also really good offensively.
- 6:04Speaker 2: He's a guy that can get you thirty at night
- 6:05Speaker 2: in a matchup nightmare. And for the Lakers with Luca,
- 6:09Speaker 2: they've now got a new face of the franchise. That
- 6:12Speaker 2: guy is box office and I think he's I guarantee
- 6:17Speaker 2: you and Chuck, you can speak to this. It probably
- 6:19Speaker 2: humbled him a little bit to be traded like that
- 6:23Speaker 2: because he thought he had the key to that franchise,
- 6:25Speaker 2: which he did, but there were definitely rumblings that they
- 6:29Speaker 2: weren't thrilled with his approach to the professionalism of taking
- 6:33Speaker 2: care of his body and investing in himself in a
- 6:37Speaker 2: way where they felt comfortable. Because you know this, Chuck,
- 6:41Speaker 2: they didn't have a problem paying him the money. If
- 6:44Speaker 2: Luca hadn't shown them that maybe he wasn't as committed
- 6:49Speaker 2: to his body. I don't think we'd ever be in
- 6:51Speaker 2: this situation. But for that is why this deal ultimately happens.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Well, Luca has to do a better job with his body.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Greg Let's let's get that out the way and listen,
- 7:05Speaker 5: everybody's talking about it. So clearly he's got to do
- 7:09Speaker 5: a better job of taking care of his body.
- 7:12Speaker 3: But hey, listen, they had to make a decision.
- 7:14Speaker 5: Do we give this guy three hundred and fifty million
- 7:16Speaker 5: dollars and we stuck waiting for the rest of his career.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Number one, they probably was the shock. It's wait, wait
- 7:23Speaker 5: a minute, it's still a shock. To his sister, it
- 7:26Speaker 5: ain't like he like, when my phone started going crazy
- 7:31Speaker 5: last night, I actually thought somebody like you thought it
- 7:36Speaker 5: was door dash, You thought it was door dash.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Well you know what I thought that.
- 7:46Speaker 5: You know, you know how these fake things come out
- 7:49Speaker 5: when somebody died Internet idiots, Well they said somebody died
- 7:55Speaker 5: and they did die. Like this can't be true because
- 7:58Speaker 5: I was actually watching the Lakers and I get this
- 8:04Speaker 5: thing on my phone. I'm like, well, this is somebody
- 8:07Speaker 5: playing a joke. Then I go to ESPN and they
- 8:10Speaker 5: got college basketball on and nothing's happened.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Then I go to ESPN too, see my girl Shake Cordinet,
- 8:16Speaker 4: and I'm.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Like, they're not even talking about it, and I'm flicking
- 8:20Speaker 5: back and forth. I had ten people texting me like dude,
- 8:25Speaker 5: I don't know anything. I'm just sitting here watching just
- 8:27Speaker 5: like everybody else. Then I go back to Shake Cordinet
- 8:30Speaker 5: and she said, we have breaking news, and I'm like, damn,
- 8:34Speaker 5: this it was a shock. I mean, I'm telling you,
- 8:38Speaker 5: I've been in here for forty years, Greg, I've never
- 8:41Speaker 5: been more shocked because there was no grumblings. I mean,
- 8:45Speaker 5: everybody's been talking about Jimmy Butler and Darren Fox for
- 8:48Speaker 5: the last few days, and then you get.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Too all NBA players.
- 8:53Speaker 5: That's the thing, Like, I was a great player and
- 8:57Speaker 5: that was all over the internet one so.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I'm so older. You have internet.
- 9:01Speaker 4: It was all over the newspapers for two years.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Nobody ever thought that Anthony Davis and especially Luka Nanchik,
- 9:11Speaker 5: especially the way Ad has been playing. He's been all
- 9:13Speaker 5: NBA and Luca, you know, he's been the face of
- 9:18Speaker 5: that franchise from day one. Man, I don't think I've
- 9:22Speaker 5: ever been more shocked. But hey, listen, I'm gonna say
- 9:26Speaker 5: this for the last time. Nobody knows Luca Doncik better
- 9:31Speaker 5: than the Dallas Mavericks. And let me tell you something else, Greg,
- 9:35Speaker 5: this thing is not going to be smooth in LA
- 9:37Speaker 5: with him and Lebron because both of them want the
- 9:40Speaker 5: ball one hundred percent of the time. I think that's
- 9:44Speaker 5: gonna be I don't know if because you know, Luca
- 9:48Speaker 5: does not move with doctor ball, len Lebron does not
- 9:51Speaker 5: move with doctor ball. There's gonna be some serious growing
- 9:55Speaker 5: pains when those two try to play together. Now, they're
- 9:59Speaker 5: both great players, don't get me wrong, but Lebron wants
- 10:03Speaker 5: the ball and Luca definitely wants the ball. So it's
- 10:07Speaker 5: gonna be very interesting how that work out and when
- 10:10Speaker 5: after the Davids is healthy, it's gonna be a seamless
- 10:13Speaker 5: transition to Dallas, plain and simple, because you know he talks.
- 10:17Speaker 5: He complains all the time about the five. I don't
- 10:20Speaker 5: even understand why he complains about the five unless you're
- 10:23Speaker 5: playing against Juco or mb Do we have any more
- 10:27Speaker 5: big guys in the league.
- 10:29Speaker 2: It's a good question. I think you're I think he's
- 10:32Speaker 2: your spot on with that. I will say the other
- 10:35Speaker 2: aspect of it, though, if you're the Lakers and if
- 10:38Speaker 2: Lebron's a part of the near future, they can't win
- 10:42Speaker 2: enough possessions with that roster, And to me, that's what
- 10:46Speaker 2: it's gonna come down to. Like, Luca and Lebron could
- 10:49Speaker 2: get thirty each, but they can't compete.
- 10:53Speaker 3: On the backboard. They Greg Greg and they both can
- 10:57Speaker 3: give up thirty.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, and they ain't got no back line help.
- 11:04Speaker 2: They don't have Well, I will say they got Finney
- 11:06Speaker 2: Smith and Vanderbilt. That does help, but they still are
- 11:09Speaker 2: going to struggle to control that backboard. That that's where
- 11:12Speaker 2: as that roster is now. So I also don't don't
- 11:15Speaker 2: you get a sense, Chuck, that they're gonna probably the
- 11:17Speaker 2: Lakers have to do something else if they're trying to
- 11:20Speaker 2: win now, well.
- 11:23Speaker 5: They gave away their best player. They don't have anybody
- 11:26Speaker 5: else to give away.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Wait a minute, are those shades? Are your glasses? Turn
- 11:33Speaker 3: and come back my glass clog?
- 11:37Speaker 5: Hey listen, hey kids at home, don't let people in
- 11:41Speaker 5: froun of you.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Don't they caught the four eyes. Don't worry about it.
- 11:44Speaker 5: Most important things to be able to see. So I
- 11:47Speaker 5: can see Greg, I can see you know Greg?
- 11:50Speaker 4: You bet Greg?
- 11:51Speaker 5: Me and you you know you're I think I'm a
- 11:52Speaker 5: little older you. You've been around? Have you ever been
- 11:55Speaker 5: more shocked?
- 11:56Speaker 3: No? Like like me either? No? No.
- 12:00Speaker 2: And I think that's the And this is where you
- 12:03Speaker 2: got to give Nico and the Mavericks a lot of
- 12:06Speaker 2: credit because nobody saw this coming. Nobody. There is no
- 12:12Speaker 2: scenario where anybody can honestly tell you they thought that
- 12:16Speaker 2: this was a possibility. And I think that's why they
- 12:19Speaker 2: were able to pull it. Off and it's probably why.
- 12:21Speaker 2: And you made a great point earlier. They're like they
- 12:25Speaker 2: weren't trying to rebuild. Normally, when you trade that superstar
- 12:28Speaker 2: the team that's trade them, they're rebuilding. They said, no,
- 12:33Speaker 2: we get we wanted Davis because he fits our timeline.
- 12:37Speaker 3: We feel like we can win now.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And I think a lot of it is because as
- 12:41Speaker 2: great as OKC is, they haven't.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Proven it in the postseason yet.
- 12:46Speaker 2: And it gives those other teams more confidence when you
- 12:50Speaker 2: get to the postseason because they're gonna be so reliant
- 12:53Speaker 2: on young players. I think SGA is the MVP this year.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I mean, we still got a little ways to go,
- 12:59Speaker 2: but he's gonna get my voted if this continues. But
- 13:02Speaker 2: and they've got a lot of great young talent, but
- 13:05Speaker 2: you notice chuck when you're getting the postseason. Coaching matters
- 13:08Speaker 2: a lot and your ability to make adjustments. And one
- 13:12Speaker 2: thing that Dallas has now with ad on that front line,
- 13:16Speaker 2: they can play any style offensively and defensively. Like that's
- 13:20Speaker 2: the thing that sometimes gets lost. People are discounting how
- 13:23Speaker 2: great a player Anthony Davis is. That's all I've been
- 13:26Speaker 2: hearing is all the Lakers they got fleeced. I'm like,
- 13:29Speaker 2: are y'all smoking crack? I mean, Anthony Davis is one
- 13:33Speaker 2: of the three best bigs in the league, and I
- 13:35Speaker 2: would say, based on what we see from embiid, he's
- 13:38Speaker 2: one of the two best. And he's a guy that
- 13:41Speaker 2: you can run your offense through as well well.
- 13:44Speaker 5: And I listen, let me tell you something, and a
- 13:48Speaker 5: pissed off Anthony Davis is probably even more dangers than
- 13:52Speaker 5: who he is right now, because you know you talked
- 13:55Speaker 5: earlier about Luca being shocked, a DS in shock too.
- 14:00Speaker 5: He's playing, he's probably playing the best he's ever played.
- 14:04Speaker 5: And to get that call in the middle of the
- 14:06Speaker 5: night or late night that you've been traded like he had,
- 14:11Speaker 5: Like I say, man, this, I think both guys that
- 14:15Speaker 5: both guys gotta be in shocked. To be honest with you,
- 14:18Speaker 5: I mean, but Luca is obviously in serious shock. But
- 14:21Speaker 5: AD's got to be shocked also. But Ed, Greg, I
- 14:25Speaker 5: agree with you, man, Okac, they're my favorite to win
- 14:31Speaker 5: this team. But man, the Dallas Mavericks, they might have
- 14:36Speaker 5: just became the second best team in the Western Conference because.
- 14:41Speaker 3: The jury is still out.
- 14:43Speaker 5: I think Denver needs to make a trade because they
- 14:46Speaker 5: need to get some bench help.
- 14:48Speaker 3: The Rockets are so young.
- 14:50Speaker 5: I'm not gonna take the Rockets beating the MAVs in
- 14:53Speaker 5: a seven game series. The Memphis Grizzlies, I like their team, Man, Dallas,
- 15:02Speaker 5: this this is gonna be a very fun thing to watch. Now,
- 15:05Speaker 5: what gets interesting? It's a Dearren Fox and the Jimmy
- 15:09Speaker 5: Butler thing because that's everything got ramped up. It's gonna
- 15:13Speaker 5: be a fun next three days. Buddy, I cannot because
- 15:18Speaker 5: now you're like, if you're my Phoenix Sons.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I'm trying to think who else is Somethingnnesota?
- 15:27Speaker 5: You got the Minnesota, you got the brandom England situation
- 15:31Speaker 5: down in New Orleans. You're like, somebody gotta do something
- 15:36Speaker 5: because the mav jumped to the front of the line.
- 15:40Speaker 5: So you so now I think it's gonna be crazy
- 15:44Speaker 5: the next three days because Thursday is the deadline obviously.
- 15:48Speaker 5: But if you like, you're like, wow, the MAVs went
- 15:52Speaker 5: from mediocre to really good in one night.
- 15:56Speaker 3: What can the Suns do? What can Minnesota do? What
- 16:01Speaker 3: kind of Lakers do?
- 16:02Speaker 4: The Lakers got to do something else?
- 16:04Speaker 1: In my opinion, Chuck, before we let you go, I
- 16:07Speaker 1: got to ask you this, you know, after you got
- 16:09Speaker 1: traded to the Suns, like you're talking about, you won
- 16:11Speaker 1: the MVP the next year, right, you talk about Anthony
- 16:14Speaker 1: Davis being pissed off forecasting Luka Doncic over the next
- 16:18Speaker 1: maybe season and a half, are we going to see
- 16:20Speaker 1: the best potential version that we've ever seen a Luka
- 16:22Speaker 1: doncis because he's got to be pissed, like you said too.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Well, first of all, he should be pissed because they
- 16:29Speaker 5: called him fat. They called him fat and lazy.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Why you get when people tell you the truth though
- 16:35Speaker 2: they do say the truth hurts.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I take that back.
- 16:39Speaker 4: You know, I told this story.
- 16:41Speaker 5: I wasn't getting to play my first year in the NBA,
- 16:44Speaker 5: and Moses Malone pulled me aside. He told me I
- 16:46Speaker 5: was fat and lazy, and I I cried, Greg, I
- 16:50Speaker 5: ain't gonna even lie. I cried, but I was fat
- 16:54Speaker 5: and lazy, and Moses took me on this wing and
- 16:58Speaker 5: I lost fifty pounds and became a Hall of Basketball player.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Nobody has been capable of telling Luca that that he
- 17:06Speaker 5: was he needed to get in better shape. We've talked
- 17:08Speaker 5: about this. Ain't like something new. We've been talking about
- 17:11Speaker 5: it for two or three years. He needs to get
- 17:12Speaker 5: in better shape, and the math made a decision, we're
- 17:16Speaker 5: not gonna give you three hundred and fifty million dollars
- 17:18Speaker 5: because if you're not in shape now, you ain't gonna
- 17:19Speaker 5: be in shape and you get older. So they made
- 17:22Speaker 5: that decision. They know him, Ben, we do it's easy.
- 17:26Speaker 5: He's a great player. I think we all agree, but no, Bill,
- 17:31Speaker 5: he has to get in better shape. But it's gonna
- 17:34Speaker 5: be very interesting because I personally, I don't know if
- 17:37Speaker 5: him and Lebron can play together. They're two, they're so
- 17:41Speaker 5: bald dominant, they're both so ball dominant. Lebron is probably
- 17:46Speaker 5: the best power power forward guard combination effort held in
- 17:52Speaker 5: the ball, and Luca has to have the ball. I
- 17:56Speaker 5: don't think Luca's ever ran to play with he didn't
- 17:58Speaker 5: have the ball. So it's gonna be smooth selling for
- 18:03Speaker 5: Anthony Davis when he gets healthy because he's that great.
- 18:06Speaker 5: But man, it's gonna be a big adjudgment for Luca
- 18:08Speaker 5: and Lebron playing together. So I think it's gonna be
- 18:12Speaker 5: a long term play for the Lakers. A long term
- 18:16Speaker 5: play
