Dicey Spanish Grand Prix Recap - Fast Laps with the Boys - F1 2024 - Austria Preview · Banter with the Boys

0:00
Yo, welcome back to Banter with the Boys Fast Laps.
0:19
I know it's been a minute.
0:20
We went back to our original plan of recapping the race a good week after that's happened.
0:27
So of course we're going to talk about the Canadian Grand Prix and the Spanish Grand
0:32
Prix coming up.
0:33
So let's just get right into it here.
0:37
Obviously Joe right next to me as always our co-host.
0:39
Joe, what's going on?
0:41
Happy to be here.
0:42
Three weeks is way too long.
0:43
It felt extremely long.
0:45
It felt extremely long, especially after a race like that and a race coming up, which
0:47
is going to hopefully be equally as fun.
0:49
Yeah, three weeks is way too long.
0:51
Really happy to be back here.
0:52
For sure, for sure.
0:53
And next to him, obviously we got Cole, Cole Hauser Week, man.
0:56
Good, good.
0:57
Looks like we're going to get storms today.
0:58
So on suit for Tuesday.
0:59
That is cool.
1:00
Yeah, has to be that way.
1:02
And I was saying this yesterday when we were all chatting, but this was like the first
1:05
race where I was pretty locked in the entire time.
1:08
It was a very fun race.
1:09
I'm excited to get into it.
1:10
I'm really disappointed.
1:11
I missed a good chunk of this race.
1:12
I was not locked in, but we still we still know what went on.
1:16
Tyler, what's going on?
1:17
Not much, man.
1:18
Just typical Tuesday storms.
1:20
Hopefully we actually get a good one.
1:22
Typical Tuesday storms, hoping for a tree to fall, according to him.
1:25
Yeah, just take out just clip the top out the top portion of the house and take out
1:28
the garage.
1:29
That's it.
1:30
That's all you're asking for.
1:31
We need not a big deal.
1:32
That's it.
1:33
That's it.
1:34
Let's just head right into quality for Canada real quick.
1:37
We don't need to touch on it that much.
1:39
It was a little bit different.
1:40
Did anybody actually catch quality like live or actually watch the whole duration of it?
1:44
Yep.
1:45
Joe, you did.
1:46
Yeah, I tried.
1:47
I always try to at least watch quality in the race whenever weekends coming up.
1:49
For sure.
1:50
What was you could take away one thing from quality?
1:52
Since this specific race, what did you see that impressed you?
1:57
I mean, there are check going out in Q1.
1:59
It's like it's surprising, but also it's starting to become not surprising, which is not great
2:04
considering he just got that contract extension.
2:07
I guess the other really big thing to call out for qualifying, we're actually two things
2:12
to call out, three things to call out.
2:14
Ferrari's out in Q2, both V carbs in Q3.
2:19
And finally, George and Max with the exact same time at the end of Q3.
2:23
I think that this is the first time in like, it was either like 40 years maybe.
2:28
I could be wrong, but it's been a while.
2:30
It was the late 90s.
2:31
It actually happened at Canada.
2:32
Oh, okay.
2:33
Oh, it did really?
2:34
Yeah, it was three people had the same time.
2:37
Wow.
2:38
That's crazy.
2:39
So not 40 years, but about half of that.
2:40
Yeah.
2:41
So very, very interesting quality.
2:42
It was a fun watch.
2:43
And then the race just kind of, yeah, it followed suit.
2:45
It was maybe not like how I would want the race to end, but it was still a really good
2:50
race to watch.
2:51
Probably the best this year so far in my opinion.
2:53
Yeah.
2:54
The one other call out in Quali is Danny Rick putting up a five spot in Quali was not expected.
3:00
If you're thinking a V carb is going to be up there, it'd be Yuki.
3:02
But he answered that one dude whose name is blank in me's criticism.
3:06
Yeah.
3:07
It was Jacques Villeneuve.
3:08
Yeah.
3:09
The guy who was like the tracks named after.
3:11
Either the son or the father.
3:13
Yeah.
3:14
Wait, wait, what did he say?
3:15
He was like before the race, he was just saying like this guy should not be in a car basically.
3:19
Yeah.
3:20
He was like pretty much watched.
3:21
He was like, there's no reason this guy's in a car.
3:23
It was right before Quali.
3:24
It was like a part of like the Sky Sports broadcast.
3:26
So then he qualies P5 and then finishes in points.
3:30
Yeah.
3:31
Yeah.
3:32
And he made his remarks known because he was asked that question after I think either
3:36
qualifying or the race.
3:37
And he's like, well, here I am, you know, qualifying fifth, super close to first.
3:42
Like he's a little bit explicit, I think.
3:45
I might be wrong, but didn't Danny Rick said that there was like a few times like this
3:48
guy's been consistently hating on him, right?
3:50
Oh, really?
3:51
He said he's always been a hater and he can lick his.
3:53
Ah, word.
3:54
Word.
3:55
Nice.
3:56
Things and stuff, things and stuff.
3:59
Yeah, no, for sure.
4:02
Right off the bat in the GP, obviously for Sap and getting the dub.
4:07
But he had a little, I mean, it was a little bit of hiccups early on, but he got it figured
4:11
out.
4:12
I thought for sure that the box by who was it Lando?
4:15
I thought for sure maybe they had time timed that up appropriately.
4:19
And then he got loose coming out and you could tell he wasn't going to make it.
4:23
But if he would have made it out, do you think Lando could have held for Sap and off this
4:27
race?
4:28
Not on those tires.
4:29
That first lap probably got him.
4:30
I mean, it would have been a prey to just keep up and keep the DRS.
4:34
If he stayed in the DRS after that lap.
4:36
Yeah, I think he was just really is a faster car.
4:39
I mean, you saw earlier on the race.
4:41
He went up by like 12 seconds, I think.
4:43
Lando?
4:44
Yeah, I don't remember the exact time.
4:45
It was a good show.
4:46
But clearly it was the quickest car on the track.
4:48
Right before, right before the safety car, he was building a good amount of time on Max
4:51
for sure.
4:52
He was Max for Sap.
4:54
He was Max for Sap at the beginning of the season.
4:56
That's how much of a gap.
4:57
It was just unreal.
4:58
Yeah.
4:59
Do you guys know when you box, do they keep those, the next set of tires or whatever,
5:04
do they heat those up as well or keep those at a certain temp?
5:07
You know?
5:08
Yeah, almost all the tires that are like.
5:09
Oh, are they?
5:10
Are they under warmers?
5:11
You only do so much though, really.
5:13
Well, right, because that's what, you know, I think the commentators may have even mentioned,
5:16
I can't even remember.
5:17
But when Lando was coming out and he, you know, broke loose a little bit, obviously,
5:21
he was just trying to push it probably more than he should to try to get out in front
5:24
of Max.
5:25
But is that maybe an issue where the tires just obviously didn't have an opportunity
5:28
to actually get warmed up enough?
5:30
I think the pit lane was just still super wet compared to the rest of the track and
5:34
the exit was super, super wet.
5:36
So like we saw Lando, like you said, kind of fishtail a little bit and Max went right
5:39
past him.
5:40
That was just a case of he's on slicks driving on like a wet portion of the track.
5:46
It's going to be a tough and also his tires aren't warmed up.
5:49
So even if it was a dry track, he would have had to fight Max at least a little bit.
5:53
But yeah, that is that wet track definitely gave it to Max.
5:55
I think it was entirely.
5:56
It was just it was just wet.
5:58
But because he was 20 seconds ahead going into the end.
6:02
Yeah, because because Max had hit it.
6:05
But do you think so?
6:06
The curious thing I thought was, do you think he waited?
6:08
I thought I felt like he waited too long.
6:11
I think he shouldn't have done that next lap.
6:12
He should just pitted and then came out.
6:15
Yeah, I think he did one to one lap too many.
6:18
Yeah, it was the opposite of what happened to Verstappen in Miami.
6:22
You know, it was like but it was it wasn't that like he pitted too late.
6:25
It was like they when he got past the pit exit, they hadn't actually called the virtual
6:31
safety car yet or the actual safety car.
6:33
It was still virtual.
6:34
So he was just trying to hit lap delta.
6:36
And if they wouldn't have if they if they would have called it just a second earlier,
6:39
they would have put him in.
6:40
But those are you're talking about two different times, though, because you're talking about
6:44
in the initial where you got caught behind and you got caught behind the safety car and
6:46
couldn't.
6:47
I'm talking his second pit.
6:49
I mean, in the second one, it was the second one.
6:52
He was on the Elbon crashed.
6:53
But the second one, he was on the enters and just trying to gain speed.
6:56
And then he did another lap.
6:58
And then because he went out lap longer and pitted.
7:00
Right.
7:01
Yeah, that was so that to go to the mediums.
7:03
Yeah, that was when he spun on the on the track.
7:07
I got you.
7:08
I got you.
7:09
That's and that was and that was after the initial safety car where Lando missed the
7:11
pit and then got yeah and then got screwed over in the same thing in Miami.
7:15
But yeah, he was I mean, he was back in first because of the because he's putting out crazy
7:19
laps on the enters to where he might have had a chance to still come out in first and head
7:23
of Max.
7:24
But like they had him go another lap and the track was so dry.
7:26
Just didn't make any sense.
7:27
He was trying to go for an overcut and hopefully.
7:29
And I think what they were really hoping was what happened to him after coming out of the
7:32
pits is that it would take longer for them to warm up and maybe he would get some sort
7:36
of advantage.
7:37
But yeah, it didn't work out that way for sure.
7:40
Well, we'll touch back on Lando and Piastra here in a second.
7:43
But staying with Red Bull, obviously, I know I have not much to say about Max this race,
7:48
you know, typical stuff.
7:49
But what about Sergio?
7:52
Again, going back to your point that you've already mentioned about the quality of him
7:57
signing that new deal.
7:59
And then, you know, not only did he, you know, smash his vehicle up, but he's now received
8:07
a three grid penalty for next race.
8:09
You said typical stuff from Max.
8:10
Can we not start saying this is typical stuff from Czechos?
8:13
100 percent.
8:14
I mean, at this point, 100 percent.
8:16
I think you can, which again is awkward to talk about after the extension.
8:21
I'll stay quoted on this.
8:22
I think in the beginning, I think episode one or two that we released from the season,
8:25
I said that he will not be in the top five.
8:29
I think I do remember you saying that.
8:31
I can't remember what episode it was.
8:33
You will not finish in the driver's standing.
8:34
Yeah, he will not finish in the top five.
8:35
And I think that's even more the way it's going.
8:37
You might not be wrong.
8:39
He's always struggled in Canada.
8:41
It's like his worst track on the grid.
8:43
But just like over the last couple races, too, like I get this race kind of really sucked
8:46
for him.
8:47
But the last couple races, now you're giving him a three grid penalty that probably puts
8:50
him out of the top 10 based on how he's performing.
8:53
I just I don't know, it's going to take another race car at Spain, though.
8:57
He might be able to at least.
8:59
But I mean, even even like you were saying, he only has three street races left.
9:02
Is that correct?
9:03
I think you said I think there's more than three.
9:06
I'd have to look at the other three.
9:08
But like, let's say even if there's three.
9:11
Something's got to click, something's got to build momentum, something's got to build
9:13
confidence in him again.
9:15
Is it the next street track and how long until that actually how long until that next one
9:19
is?
9:20
It's not the next three races.
9:21
I know that.
9:22
But with with Checos will accident.
9:27
Was it the team orders to have him try to bring the car back?
9:29
OK, so we were trying to they were trying to prevent a safety car.
9:32
100 percent.
9:33
100 percent.
9:34
So you can't fault them for that.
9:35
No, the three place grid penalty.
9:36
That's not Red Bull.
9:37
That's not on Checo.
9:38
No, 100 percent.
9:39
You know, stuff falling off.
9:40
Put himself in a place where his car was banged up, where he had to pit.
9:43
Of course.
9:44
I mean, you're fighting for he was trying to fight for 17th.
9:47
And what are you doing?
9:49
He spun and went backwards into the wall.
9:50
Right.
9:51
Yeah.
9:52
Yeah.
9:53
So, I mean, honestly, not much else to talk about Checo other than I guess.
9:58
You know, we'll see what he does in Spain.
10:00
I mean, he's got to have a bounce back bounce back race at a track that Red Bulls can do
10:05
very well at, I would imagine.
10:09
He kind of needs it personally.
10:10
You say he's going to do pretty well.
10:11
We'll talk about that later.
10:12
Well, and we'll just roll right into it.
10:15
The Mercedes this weekend.
10:16
Did they have any upgrades coming into this race that we know of?
10:20
Like not that I know.
10:21
It's like huge life changing.
10:23
They had them coming into Monaco, actually.
10:24
Sure.
10:25
So they had the upgrades going into Monaco.
10:26
But Monaco is like I said, it's a time trial.
10:28
It's how you qualify.
10:29
So they didn't get the qualifying so they couldn't actually show the cars like potential
10:32
and performance.
10:34
When we were chatting to you were saying that the upgrades are more for the fast corners,
10:39
correct?
10:40
Yeah, they were more for the high speed corners.
10:42
Because that's where the Mercedes downfall the last two, maybe even three years is high
10:45
speed corners.
10:46
They just cannot perform at the high speed corners of all the other cars.
10:49
Well, the top cars on the grid.
10:51
Or McLaren's been amazing the last couple of years.
10:53
Even Aston.
10:54
Aston's been substantially better than Mercedes in the high speed corners every year the last
10:58
two years.
10:59
It's been it's insane, actually.
11:00
I mean, they had something else this weekend or this at least in this race.
11:04
It seemed a little better.
11:05
Not a lot of high speed corners.
11:06
It's not as high speed.
11:07
It's not a lot of high speed corners.
11:09
That's the thing about Canada.
11:10
It's really like there's the DRS zone.
11:13
So there's a lot of potential for overtaking.
11:15
But like high speed corners and even, you know, with the with it being wet pretty much
11:19
half the race, you didn't get the even see the full potential of what that car can do.
11:23
For sure.
11:24
You're talking about the Mercedes, right?
11:25
Yeah.
11:26
If the race was dry, does Mercedes still finish where they did?
11:29
I mean, it's hard to say, right?
11:31
I mean, we can go and throw these things.
11:33
I think so.
11:34
I was I was surprised with how much of a fight it was for Hamilton against Alonso for as
11:39
long as it was.
11:40
Yes.
11:41
How good Russell looked in that car.
11:43
That surprised me.
11:44
Well, and Hamilton came out and said after the race that this was his worst race he's
11:48
ever raced.
11:49
And then he was racing Canada.
11:51
Where's well, what was it?
11:53
One of the I'm sorry, not ever race.
11:55
One of the worst races I've driven is what he said.
11:58
Because he's still pretty good.
12:01
I know.
12:02
He had pace.
12:03
Obviously finishing before still pretty solid.
12:06
And he had the he had the fastest lap, didn't he?
12:08
He did.
12:09
That sounds right.
12:10
Yeah.
12:11
Him and George are going back and forth.
12:12
Yeah.
12:13
With the fastest lap.
12:14
He was just disappointed because he knew they had the opportunity to win the race, which
12:17
you know, Max still drove away with it to a point, but it's still not that gap that
12:21
we're used to seeing this season.
12:23
But I mean, it was fun to watch George and Landau just battle it out.
12:28
It was fun.
12:30
It's fun and also sad to see them do so well.
12:34
Pretty much their first race of the year.
12:36
They've done really well.
12:37
And both of the drivers be pretty disappointed with third and fourth.
12:41
Because I mean, you know, Russell got pulled, but he was also you could see it in his face
12:44
like in the cool down room and on the like before the podium, you know, he just he couldn't
12:49
keep up with Max and Landau a little bit.
12:51
Or maybe the strategy just wasn't right for the time.
12:53
I don't even think there's a strategy thing.
12:55
He owned that about the terms.
12:56
Because he led a good amount of the first like portion of that race.
13:00
Well, he also he also said after the fact he was like there's two or three times where
13:03
I messed up in corners and I cost myself that race.
13:06
Yeah.
13:07
That's why he was more upset.
13:08
Definitely had.
13:09
And he got called to the stewards after the race and they just called it a race against
13:11
it.
13:12
And I think as it should have been the very last corner of the race.
13:14
Yeah.
13:15
No, but I mean, that's how he lost P2.
13:18
Was that that slip up there allowed Landau to get through and then you're not going to
13:21
catch him once he's by.
13:22
Right.
13:23
Right.
13:24
No, I just lost my train of thought.
13:26
No.
13:27
But yeah.
13:28
And then at the end, it's tough with Hamilton on the hards to like obviously Russell's going
13:33
to get back by him, which is kind of tough because Hamilton, you know, like we just said,
13:37
Hamilton did have did have good pace.
13:38
It would have been interesting to see if he had a better tire to try to catch up to Landau.
13:42
Yeah.
13:43
I was really surprised that they they switched them because like George had the hards went
13:47
to mediums.
13:48
Lewis had the mediums went to hards.
13:50
I figured they would throw a new set of mediums on on Lewis.
13:54
I feel like that's always what Mercedes does, though.
13:55
They always switch.
13:56
Yeah.
13:57
It's like they're throwing all their money at one at this point of the season with how
14:02
low you are on points.
14:03
You need to throw all of them in both.
14:04
Yeah.
14:05
Yeah.
14:06
That's a good point.
14:07
100 percent.
14:08
What?
14:09
Why is that?
14:10
Why do you think they're just trying to test different things all the time, different
14:11
strategies all the time, or is it like tailored to each driver specifically?
14:16
I think it's like as far as tire management, to be completely honest, I think it's entirely
14:20
based on where they they finish at in the qualifying.
14:23
I think that's where they're basing it off of and what they're thinking of.
14:27
But either way, I don't think.
14:29
Like, it just I don't know, it just makes more sense to go hard.
14:32
I don't know what because of being wet, being that race, I feel like they had to kind of
14:36
bank on and we'll talk about Haas here, obviously in a second.
14:39
So I have some things to say, but I feel like they should have been banking more almost
14:43
on the carnage, if you will.
14:45
Right.
14:46
And it might have been it might have been like a tire limitation that they didn't have
14:50
a new set of mediums for Lewis because Lewis was on the mediums.
14:53
Like you only have a certain allocation and if he uses meant X amount in like practice
14:57
and qualifying, you could always throw on a huge set.
15:01
But you know, you're better off with a new set of hearts than a used set of mediums.
15:03
Well, yeah, but I would think so.
15:05
Yeah, I hear that.
15:06
But they could have switched that.
15:07
Well, he already did.
15:08
Because he had started with the Inners and went to the mediums.
15:12
But I think what I'm talking more so about is the going from medium to hard to hard to
15:17
medium.
15:18
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:19
You would think that and I think when they did that, they were trying to gauge what the
15:23
better tire is to get about that at that point because it was the first slick they put on
15:26
after the Inners.
15:27
Oh, so you're just saying that it would make sense to go back with another medium.
15:30
Right.
15:31
OK, OK, OK, gotcha.
15:32
I mean, all in all, great showing from from Mercedes, something that I know I didn't expect
15:37
to see this weekend and obviously our podium predictions.
15:41
I don't think anybody had a Merc in there.
15:43
No, why would you?
15:44
Why would you?
15:45
That'd be a good bet to win though if you had you placed a little if you would have
15:51
placed Russell on the podium.
15:53
Yeah, I wouldn't have made that bet.
15:55
Only a true Mercedes fan would.
15:58
Right, right.
15:59
It was probably Lewis.
16:00
It was probably Lewis.
16:03
Since we touched on Lando and Russell, let's just head right into McLaren real quick just
16:07
to bring them up again.
16:10
Obviously Lando being pretty disappointed with with the second place.
16:14
But I mean, all in all, another great drive from Lando, another consistent drive from
16:19
Lando.
16:20
I don't know.
16:22
I'm not trying to compare because obviously two different cars, two different drivers,
16:24
but he's starting to show us like kind of what Charles was showing us a couple of years
16:28
back just with the consistency.
16:31
You know, he's starting to get more consistent podiums.
16:33
He's a mainstay on the podium.
16:35
I'm here for it.
16:36
So I think this switch, the both sides, kind of like we talked about last episode, I think
16:41
this again shows.
16:45
What's his name?
16:46
Piastri.
16:47
This kind of does show like his experience a little bit.
16:50
Right.
16:51
This is more and more showing his experience coming through in these later races where,
16:55
you know, there's so much battling and so much carnage going on.
16:58
Right.
16:59
But as far as Norris, this is why people love Norris, I think.
17:02
Like afterwards, he was like, I got me in Miami.
17:04
You know, I got him in Miami.
17:05
You just make, you know, it's fair.
17:07
All is fair.
17:08
It's just I think this is why people love Norris.
17:09
He's just he's so fun to watch.
17:11
He's he's he's one of those guys that just impossible to hate.
17:13
He's super straight with it, too.
17:14
If he's if he's at a bad day, he'll tell you like, yeah, it was a bad day.
17:18
We're not where we should be.
17:20
But knowing that he says that, like he's he's straight with us and hearing him say, like
17:25
the car's performing well, though, so we can fight for it.
17:28
That's super promising for future races.
17:30
Right.
17:31
And he's like he actually said, like, I look forward to every track because it seems like
17:34
we're performing like that's not something that was said earlier in the definitely not
17:37
definitely not.
17:38
And back to whoever said, you know, he's been super consistent.
17:41
He's the last person on the grid to have a point in every single race this year.
17:45
Who's the other Charles?
17:46
No, he's the last one.
17:49
Charles hadn't finished outside of top four going into this race.
17:52
Yep.
17:53
Well, wow.
17:55
With that, I mean, Oscar finishing fifth, I don't I don't want to like down credit Oscar,
18:00
but just to keep things moving.
18:01
Obviously, finishing P five, another great drive for McLaren as a whole.
18:07
But we'll just go right into the Ferraris and Charles missing points and signs doing
18:12
whatever.
18:13
I can't remember who is involved with the sign saying if it was Albon or whatever.
18:17
But what the hell happened to Ferrari this in Canada?
18:23
Like I don't it's it's a replay for Leclerc, right?
18:26
The engine failures was it?
18:27
It was engine failures.
18:29
But like he qualified P11.
18:31
No, but yeah, but they were saying that he was losing half a second a lap.
18:35
That was in the race.
18:36
Yeah, for 20 laps.
18:37
I was in I get I get the qualifying, but even in the race, like being in the Ferrari, he's
18:40
climbing.
18:41
He's not finishing out of the top 10 if he's not losing that much.
18:44
He was in P10 when the engine started going like he was only able to gain one spot.
18:49
The Ferrari is just they did not look like they had any pace.
18:52
Where did Carlos quality?
18:53
You remember off the top of your head?
18:54
I can check real quick.
18:55
But it was 1112.
18:56
1112.
18:57
Gosh.
18:58
And I mean, they were two they were two tenths of a second off that Q2 pace to to get into
19:04
the break to top 10.
19:05
It wasn't even like they were like close.
19:08
When did that switch flip?
19:10
You know what I mean?
19:11
I think I think we're just looking too much into it.
19:13
I think they're fine next race.
19:14
I think it's I do too.
19:15
I do too.
19:16
I'm probably still putting Charles on my podium, actually.
19:18
Yeah, which seems wild after this race.
19:20
But I mean, he didn't qualify well.
19:24
But for the most part, it was a car issue for Charles.
19:26
Yeah.
19:27
And with it being wet, the first, what, 30 laps of the race, 40 laps of the race or whatever,
19:31
things are just going to be different.
19:32
I mean, almost unpredictable for lack of better terms.
19:35
You know what I mean?
19:36
The first like 10 to 15 were just so pure.
19:40
Just wild.
19:41
I mean, we saw a K-Meg.
19:43
I mean, we'll get we'll get into just just wildness.
19:46
But yeah, I mean, I guess I don't really have anything else to say about the Ferraris.
19:49
The only note I literally put in there, as you guys saw, just says yikes.
19:53
It's just a bad race.
19:55
You know, probably one that they can just wash their hands of and hope for the best
19:58
next week.
19:59
But it's it's another like.
20:02
It is just kind of like whatever.
20:03
I think we're back to normal business next week for Ferrari.
20:06
But as far as like the points and we're stepping taking first, that's huge.
20:10
And then like actually inching up to Red Bull.
20:13
Ferrari?
20:14
Yeah, for the constructors.
20:15
Yeah, for sure.
20:16
It's such a big jump now.
20:17
For sure.
20:18
When they're slowly starting to tighten that gap and you have a check out of the top 10
20:23
again.
20:24
It's like, OK, now we can make it closer or something.
20:27
It sucks.
20:28
I hate to see it.
20:29
I don't want Red Bull to win the constructors.
20:30
Even if they were to move up to like a six, seven in that race, right.
20:32
It narrows that margin that they broke away from.
20:36
Give them a couple of points.
20:37
Yeah.
20:38
How far back?
20:39
I know we're not doing a full, you know, update on constructors.
20:43
How far back is McLaren at this point from Ferrari?
20:46
Still a good chunk, I'd imagine.
20:48
Forty points.
20:49
Forty points.
20:50
OK.
20:51
And how far is Ferrari from Red Bull?
20:53
Forty nine.
20:54
Forty nine.
20:55
I mean, that feels weird.
20:56
I mean, that's closer than we're used to seeing at this point.
21:00
You got to think about it.
21:01
It would have.
21:02
It could have been a lot closer to the 24 if it wasn't for the 25 was zero.
21:04
100 percent.
21:05
You know, it's crazy.
21:06
100 percent.
21:07
Even if they just were to knock 10 points, it's 32.
21:09
It's 39 points.
21:10
That just seems so much better than 49.
21:12
So much more attainable.
21:14
Yeah.
21:15
Just just to see.
21:16
Just just as a fan that doesn't isn't particular to a team, just to see what what would happen,
21:22
what changes heading into this week.
21:23
Probably nothing.
21:24
You know, everybody's just looking at each race individually.
21:26
But I don't know.
21:27
That would have been wild to see.
21:29
Huge opportunity miss for Ferrari.
21:31
I. Yeah.
21:32
At the same time, though, like the way this season is unfolding, I think there's more
21:35
opportunities if the question is if they can capitalize on them.
21:39
That's it.
21:40
That's it.
21:41
Ferrari, if they can capitalize on opportunities.
21:44
Aston.
21:47
Finishing about where we kind of expect them to see, including Stroll.
21:50
Hit in that top 10, probably a couple of spots up than where we're used to seeing them or
21:56
where we would expect to see him because of the Ferraris.
21:58
I see Alonso maybe I know about Stroll.
22:01
That's I mean, hey, I mean, he's still beat out, you know, nobody.
22:06
I mean, everybody else, everybody else in that top 10 is also not really.
22:10
I mean, he beat out exactly.
22:11
He beat out exactly who he should have beat out.
22:14
His car is exactly where it should.
22:17
So not much that we can really say about that.
22:21
Alonso looked great early fighting with Hamilton.
22:23
He did.
22:24
He did.
22:25
No, he did.
22:26
And why did it?
22:27
Why did they track off a little bit?
22:28
I mean, obviously, that car is not going to keep up.
22:30
They just don't have the pace.
22:31
Yeah, they're not.
22:32
Once it once it dried up, I mean, once it dried up and they're trying mediums and hards,
22:35
it was kind of.
22:36
Alonso just let them buy.
22:37
That's true.
22:38
The battling was again when it was wet.
22:39
Yeah.
22:40
It's just pure unpredictability.
22:41
If it's pure skill in the rain and just the line.
22:44
I mean, Alonso is going to be able to fight with you wherever he's at.
22:46
But first legend, I mean, it was still kind of fun.
22:48
Yeah, it was entertaining.
22:49
It's always fun seeing those two go head ahead.
22:53
But moving right along, Alpine taking advantage of two missing Ferraris in the top 10.
22:59
That's three big points for that team, man.
23:01
100 percent.
23:02
No doubt.
23:03
I mean, we still saw O'Conn still saw O'Conn cutting the lawn, you know, a couple of times,
23:10
I think, actually, even went flying over the curb.
23:12
Yeah, O'Conn's going to O'Conn.
23:14
Yeah.
23:15
Yeah.
23:16
I was actually having like a very heated debate with a friend who I watched these races with.
23:21
You get heated, Joe?
23:22
I did.
23:23
OK, so I get heated in the comfort of my own home on Discord and on the Internet, you know,
23:31
where I can't see my face.
23:33
You silly goose.
23:36
Yeah, exactly.
23:37
Those words were thrown around.
23:38
I'm curious.
23:41
Who do you think is the better driver between the two, Gastly or O'Conn?
23:45
Got to ride with my boy.
23:46
Gastly.
23:47
Got to ride with my boy Gastly.
23:48
No, no, no.
23:49
But we're all Gastly fans.
23:50
I agree.
23:51
And I unfortunately think that on my end, I agree.
23:54
I think Gastly is the better driver, but I also think it's because I dislike O'Conn so
23:57
much.
23:58
I just don't.
23:59
I think from a talent perspective, I think Gastly hasn't.
24:01
I think if O'Conn didn't mess up so much and he wasn't so aggressive, he could.
24:06
They're probably pretty evenly stacked with each other.
24:08
I would agree with that, but you have to take that into account.
24:11
100 percent.
24:12
That's a part of the talent is not being able to control that.
24:14
Why do you dislike O'Conn so much?
24:17
I don't want to make you mad.
24:22
This conversation is getting too silly.
24:24
Team Lookers.
24:25
You know what?
24:26
I'm going to hop on Discord right now.
24:27
I think it's just kind of his path.
24:31
I don't think DTS really painted a great picture of him either, so maybe that's a little bit
24:35
why too.
24:36
I don't think DTS painted a great picture of a lot of people.
24:38
I think Monaco did.
24:39
They have their favorites.
24:40
Yeah, 100 percent.
24:41
They have their favorites.
24:42
Hey Rick.
24:43
Lando.
24:44
Yeah, I just think, yeah.
24:47
He feuds with every single teammate he has.
24:50
He didn't get along with Alonso very well.
24:56
I think he was okay with Ricardo maybe, but I don't really think they...
25:00
So on that though, do you think he has a seat next year?
25:03
No.
25:04
O'Conn?
25:05
No, he doesn't.
25:06
We already know he doesn't.
25:07
Yeah, but do you think he gets picked up?
25:08
He has a seat in general.
25:09
No, no.
25:10
So okay.
25:11
No?
25:12
I'm going to...
25:13
I'm going to bring him up again because there is another part of the argument where I don't
25:17
think it's going to happen, but it would be a safe bet.
25:19
But I will bring him up again when we start talking about what seats are left, specifically
25:24
the Mercedes seat and who their options are.
25:27
Oh yeah, we'll touch on that a little bit.
25:29
I'm not saying he deserves it.
25:30
That's interesting because he's total his boy.
25:34
That's what I'm thinking.
25:35
I never even thought about that.
25:36
Let's talk about that when we get to news, but I'll hold it for a little bit just because
25:40
we have a lot of seat discussion to talk about this this week for sure.
25:44
Well, let's just touch on...
25:45
Sorry to derail by the way.
25:46
No, that's okay.
25:47
I'm not going to get mad.
25:49
Let's just go right into the V...
25:50
Are you mad at me?
25:55
Let's just go right into V-Carbs real quick.
25:57
Obviously, we mentioned Danny Rick into points, kind of doing his best Yuki impersonation
26:02
with Yuki finishing 14th this week.
26:05
He had a spin near the close to the end of the race that got him further down or something
26:11
like that.
26:12
Yeah, some kind of issue.
26:13
Yeah, something like that, which...
26:15
He spun on three laps before the end.
26:19
Okay, okay.
26:20
So where was he before the spin?
26:22
No, I don't know.
26:24
Was he in points?
26:25
I wouldn't imagine.
26:26
Yes, he was.
26:27
I actually listed he drops from points after going super wide and spinning.
26:30
What lap is that?
26:31
I see you have...
26:32
Lap 66.
26:33
Ah, dang.
26:34
Okay, so literally right at the...
26:35
He was intent, I think.
26:36
I think there was still one person between him and Rick, Danny.
26:40
He was definitely still in points and then he dropped.
26:42
So he almost kept his consistency going, but...
26:45
So we'll see a little bit of bounce back from Yuki maybe.
26:48
A little closer action next week or this coming weekend.
26:51
I think it's going to be a good battle between Stroll and the two V-Carbs going forward.
26:55
Just in general?
26:56
I do, I do.
26:57
I mean, I like what I've seen out of Danny Rick the last...
26:59
He seems like he's kind of getting back to form.
27:01
Now, let's see if he continues it.
27:03
I think the thing with him is the inconsistencies, but...
27:05
Do you think form is as big of a deal?
27:08
Obviously getting in form and being in form is used a lot in football, but do you think
27:14
it...
27:15
Do you think it matters as well in racing?
27:17
Just pretty much any level of racing I'd imagine.
27:21
I think what matters most is the mental form more so than the physical form.
27:26
Anybody can get into that physical shape.
27:27
These level of drivers don't get out of that physical shape.
27:31
So the mental just actually buying into where he's at and showing that he can actually still
27:38
race and then buying him to himself.
27:40
You know what?
27:41
That's why I'm so bad at the game.
27:42
My mental form is never there.
27:45
Just can't quite get it.
27:47
All right, who wanted to talk about Haas?
27:50
Somebody really wanted to...
27:51
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
27:52
Yeah.
27:53
Take it away.
27:54
I have something like...
27:55
It was...
27:56
I liked the strategy.
27:57
You're that team, you're down low.
27:58
I love going on the West to start and just flying through and just racing and just flying
28:03
by everybody.
28:04
I mean, he was taking advantage of his opportunities.
28:06
That was so fun to watch.
28:08
And he also like...
28:09
I mean, if you compare him to Hulkenberg, he looked fast compared to Hulkenberg.
28:12
Just the laps time he was putting out and everything.
28:14
He was putting in work too.
28:16
He got up to P9.
28:17
Just a climb though out of KMAG.
28:18
It was nothing like KMAG.
28:20
So here's my issue though.
28:23
If you're doing that, you're banking on something, right?
28:25
If you're doing that move as a risky move already, if everybody else then enters, why
28:31
bail out so soon to get your tires changed to an enter?
28:34
Why not wait?
28:35
They had to.
28:36
They had to.
28:37
They were...
28:38
If you're in fourth, at least, I think then at least, if you're in fourth right there,
28:40
and you wait...
28:41
At the end of the day, they didn't finish in points.
28:46
The car wasn't keeping up.
28:47
If you're in fourth and you wait and just pray for the safety car and then it comes
28:51
and then you're at sixth or seventh, at least then you're fighting somewhere where it matters.
28:56
Why not taste that?
28:57
You're already taking a chance.
28:58
Why not keep that chance going?
28:59
But to be the opposite of that then, right?
29:02
Let's say they go four more laps.
29:05
KMAG's not holding fourth.
29:06
He's probably dropping to sixth or seventh and then they're forced to pit because there's
29:09
nothing left on the tire.
29:11
They drop to 12th, 13th, 14th when they come out.
29:13
If they would have had a three second stop, not even a quick stop, just a three second
29:17
stop, KMAG comes out in eighth place.
29:20
And then he's on a fresh inner when everybody else is on used inners, he could maybe start
29:24
to climb again.
29:25
But they had a what was it?
29:26
It was like 6.9 or like an eight second stop.
29:29
That two, three seconds that early in the race, nobody's gained that gap between the
29:33
drivers to where that matters.
29:36
I just feel like at that rate you got to commit to it.
29:38
But I see what you're saying.
29:39
There's obviously a strategy involved there.
29:41
If you're going to push it that hard and he succeeded at it, okay, now what?
29:45
It's like it happened and they were successful with it and then they're like, oh damn, that
29:49
actually works.
29:50
So even if he dropped to nine or 10 and they had the safety car come through, he could
29:54
have got tires ended up in that position.
29:56
I don't think they were banking on a safety car.
29:58
I think I think you're putting too much into that, right?
30:00
I think they were.
30:01
Go ahead, Joe.
30:02
Yeah, no, I'm sorry.
30:03
I think I think you're right.
30:04
I don't think they were banking in a safety car.
30:06
I think they were banking on it being wet for much longer and then having the newer
30:10
inters around everyone else having more use.
30:13
So when everyone else has to pit, maybe they're they're pitting for for slicks and then they
30:17
pit at the same time and have that advantage.
30:19
I wrote, I wrote, Mag made up 10 places and then unfortunately when he did go on to inters,
30:25
it was just hot strategy and they they you know, they biffed the pit stop.
30:29
But I definitely see like why not just stay on.
30:33
Yeah, I totally get that.
30:34
I totally get it.
30:35
Especially when you do the move commit.
30:36
Yeah, commits to the move.
30:37
But I think I mean, I think they did commit.
30:39
I think they like strategy wise, it worked exactly like they planned.
30:43
But didn't they they had Hulkenberg stay out like another six, seven laps.
30:46
They did have Hulk stay out a bit longer.
30:49
That's that's correct.
30:50
No, that's interesting.
30:51
But then then it's the two different strategies like Merck, like the Mercedes view, you know,
30:56
maybe two different strategies for him.
30:58
If you want to be aggressive, use it with the guys and forth.
31:01
But I don't know why the car to stay there.
31:02
And it's no no offense to K-Mag.
31:04
They have the best radars.
31:05
I get they thought it was going to stay wet longer.
31:07
Maybe I don't like that.
31:08
I don't like that argument because they had the radars.
31:11
They see everything.
31:12
They had a top tech there.
31:15
If you're and if you're going to use two different strategies, why?
31:17
No offense to K-Mag.
31:18
But why pick K-Mag over Hulkenberg?
31:20
You know what I mean?
31:21
Because of where he called it.
31:22
I started.
31:23
He started.
31:24
I think he started.
31:25
Yeah, he started.
31:26
He started up there.
31:27
K-Mag started 14th.
31:28
P. Nico started 19th.
31:30
So Nico got up to P nine.
31:31
He gained 10 spots just like K-Mag did.
31:33
Just not as pretty.
31:36
So yeah, why did they?
31:37
It reminded me the whole time I was thinking that it's you see like the clip that gets
31:41
run through on Instagram of Kimi in his Lotus years where he started like P 16 and then
31:47
got up to like P four before like the end of the first lap.
31:51
It was that clip just kept running through my mind.
31:52
This came back just going on the complete wet portion of the track and just flying by
31:57
these guys.
31:59
Taking outsides of corners around people.
32:01
I'm just like this guy is insane.
32:02
I hate it.
32:03
All of that with.
32:04
And then it just freaking.
32:05
I know.
32:06
And all of that with all those points on his license.
32:08
He hits one car.
32:09
He seriously raked it.
32:10
He hits one car.
32:11
He's out for a race.
32:12
I forgot about all that.
32:14
Yeah.
32:15
Like the cojones on that guy, man.
32:17
Is he resigned?
32:18
No.
32:19
He's just sending.
32:20
This is last year.
32:21
He's sending it.
32:22
He's told he's not coming back.
32:24
Bearman's taking that seat as soon as he loses that license.
32:30
Oh my God.
32:33
With that, let's roll right into news, Kev.
32:43
Oh, right back at it.
32:44
Didn't even see you there.
32:45
I'm just kidding.
32:46
That's messed up.
32:47
Anyway, let's just head right into news.
32:49
Obviously, FIA adjusts the minimum age for Antonelli.
32:54
Or is it is it confirmed that they have now changed the age or is it going to?
32:58
Yeah, they've confirmed now.
33:00
It's 17.
33:02
So now that's pretty much his spot locked up in the Mercedes next year, you think, or
33:08
what?
33:09
Well, I mean, they didn't need to change it for that.
33:10
This opens up a way for him to get into F1 and two this year.
33:14
Yeah, which we're thinking would be for Sargent, I'd imagine.
33:17
No, just F1 and two.
33:19
So F1 and two, a couple of races throughout the year, like the reserve drivers actually
33:22
just go and race in F1.
33:23
They've been a race, but they get on track.
33:25
They get some time in the car.
33:27
Yeah.
33:28
Do we think he still has could replace Sargent before the end of the year just to get some
33:31
actual grand prix experience?
33:33
I think so.
33:34
Yeah.
33:35
I mean, what do you got to lose right now for Williams?
33:36
Soon.
33:37
Soon.
33:38
It'll happen soon.
33:39
Not much.
33:40
Paying Logan, I assume he is not paid per race.
33:42
It's a like yearly whatever.
33:43
I would only imagine.
33:45
But again, Williams isn't the one foot in the bill.
33:48
I think it'd probably be after the my guess would be after the the summer break.
33:54
After the summer break.
33:55
I would say so, too.
33:56
It gives Kimmy comes in to make the search.
33:57
Yeah.
33:58
I think the next race is the they are allowing or they are doing the reserve drivers because
34:02
I don't they haven't done it at all this year.
34:04
I think it's only like two races a year.
34:06
They tried to do it with Jack Duhan at Alpine, I think in Canada.
34:11
Yeah, they did it for FP1 with him in Canada, but it was raining the whole practice session
34:16
so they didn't put him out.
34:17
So he went out.
34:18
He went out to do a practice start and then they brought him back in.
34:20
So we didn't do any running.
34:21
But so I think they just decide when they do it because last year it was like all of
34:25
them did it at the same time.
34:26
Do all teams is it mandated?
34:28
I think it might be.
34:30
And then they just choose when they do it.
34:31
Or can you only can you only do it so many times to you think?
34:34
Or could you do it every week and they just choose not to?
34:36
Well, I'm confused here.
34:38
You only allowed to let the reserve driver drive in two races.
34:41
No, no, that's what I don't know, because I think last year I think it only happened
34:45
twice.
34:46
Oh, I feel like you should be able to let him every race if you wanted to.
34:48
Yeah, I don't see why there would be anything against that.
34:51
I mean, you're only penalizing yourself by not giving your driver the experience.
34:54
Yeah, unless it's Sergeant.
34:56
But yeah.
34:57
Well, then you're really penalizing yourself.
34:58
It's like if it's like Lewis, I could see passing up.
35:02
But let's be honest, Lewis needs the experience in that car, too.
35:06
Yeah, to practice sessions, the teams must provide younger drivers each year.
35:11
They must provide.
35:12
It was a Google Gemini automated search that could be wrong.
35:15
But that's just the minimum, though.
35:18
So it seems like you could do it every race.
35:20
I think they have to do that.
35:21
They have to allow these younger drivers to get into the car, at least a practice session
35:25
or two.
35:26
So you think they could do it for Alpine then since they tried?
35:29
I would assume so.
35:30
No, there's probably no.
35:31
There probably has to be like, yeah, I would hope so, because that'd be kind of bogus.
35:36
That'd suck for Jack Doohan.
35:38
You watching me?
35:40
That's the other driver.
35:41
I watched you pull right back off the track.
35:44
He's currently my teammate on F124 in my team.
35:47
Doohan, do the Jack Doohan.
35:48
You couldn't afford anybody.
35:50
You don't get much when you start.
35:53
Fair enough.
35:55
Well, while Joe looks at it, let's stay with Mercedes really quick, which I think Joe is
35:59
actually going to bring up as a possible landing spot for Ocon as he's out at Alpine.
36:04
So this is kind of where the conversation went with this individual that I was having
36:10
this heated argument with.
36:11
Call him out.
36:12
Talking about you, Michael.
36:15
Yeah.
36:16
Michael.
36:17
OK, Mercedes, right?
36:20
We know Antonelli is slotted for Mercedes at some point.
36:24
What are the possibilities they put in a rookie like on his first year in F1 in a Mercedes,
36:29
right?
36:30
Or I think they should put him in a Williams for a year, get him antiquated to F1 before
36:36
getting him into a Merc.
36:38
So my whole view right now is what are Mercedes options?
36:42
They have a seat they need to fill.
36:43
Carlos probably isn't going to take it.
36:45
At least they don't seem interested in him.
36:47
Kimi definitely feels like who they should go for, but going with a rookie is dangerous,
36:53
especially with a rookie who isn't doing spectacular in his F2 season.
36:57
He's not doing awful, but he's not doing amazing.
36:59
He's not doing good.
37:00
Right?
37:01
So what are their options?
37:02
So that's where Ocon came from.
37:04
Ocon and Toto have gone way back.
37:06
Toto got Ocon his job in Alpine.
37:09
Toto was his manager.
37:10
I remember on DTS.
37:11
Exactly.
37:12
That's why I know that is from DTS.
37:14
He called up Renaud at the time and he was like, hey, get Ocon in there.
37:19
Get him a seat.
37:22
Do they put Ocon just because they know he knows how to drive an F1 seat and they're
37:26
like, you know what, let's get this kid one more year while we get Kimi into a Williams
37:30
for a year, get him antiquated in.
37:33
We know that Ocon is aggressive, but he's not going to crash all the time as Kimi might
37:38
because he's new to the sport.
37:40
Or is Kimi Antonelli going to be like a piastri, right?
37:43
Where he comes in and he just kind of knocks out of the park almost immediately.
37:47
I think if you're talking about Ocon and going into that seat, if George Russell has any
37:51
say, and at this rate, I think he should, I don't think you want, if you're, if you're,
37:55
I don't think if you're Russell, you want to race with him.
37:57
Right.
37:58
You'd rather have a young gun one because you want to be the stud on the team and two
38:02
because like that just builds your stock as a race driver.
38:05
If you, if you have the Kimi next to you and you're helping him progress, I think that
38:08
helps him.
38:09
I think Ocon.
38:10
He's good for George.
38:11
Kimi is good for George.
38:13
I think if George has a say, he wants Kimi.
38:14
I think if George has Ocon, it's bad for George.
38:18
If you've looked at Ocon's record and you're George, you're like, I don't want to race
38:21
with this guy.
38:22
I don't want to race next to him.
38:24
If we're qualifying next to each other, it's a nightmare for me.
38:26
Right.
38:27
Those are two really interesting views actually.
38:29
Cause I could see both.
38:31
I could see both.
38:32
I could see Ocon taking the seat for a year with the plan that you're going to put Antonelli
38:36
in there in year two from now.
38:39
Then then maybe that slots Ocon right into Williams or Ocon's gone out of F1 at that
38:43
point.
38:44
But if he does well, and maybe then Antonelli, maybe Antonelli just like isn't good.
38:48
Right.
38:49
He just comes to F1 and he just can't, he can't do it.
38:50
Now they put him in, they put him into last year's Merc and he, he, now they're reporting
38:54
that he did good laps in last year's Merc.
38:57
So at what track?
38:58
So did, so did Danny.
38:59
Probably Silverstone, I would imagine.
39:00
I'm not a hundred percent sure.
39:01
So did Danny Rick in the RV-19.
39:02
Exactly.
39:03
Yeah.
39:04
Exactly.
39:05
So what does that really say?
39:06
So how much are you basing it off that?
39:07
Can they get him on the sim?
39:08
They can, right?
39:09
Yeah.
39:10
Oh yeah.
39:11
I would imagine.
39:12
I mean, that's probably where they're pulling all their information off.
39:13
Right.
39:14
Yeah.
39:15
I feel like that's more a publicity and for show to put him in the last year's car.
39:20
I feel like they're pulling all their real information off the sim for Kimi.
39:24
Do you think, do you think Mercedes waits that long to see if A, then they make the
39:31
change with Sergeant, right?
39:33
And now Sergeant is racing for, or I'm sorry, Kimi's in for Sergeant at Williams.
39:38
And then based on that, do they then decide what they want to do with that second seat?
39:41
Or is that too late for Mercedes at this point?
39:44
I think.
39:45
I think that's what the months down the road from now we're talking about probably.
39:47
I think the big, the biggest reason you put Kimi in that spot next year is so nobody else
39:53
can the following year.
39:54
If he's in a Williams, if you're Mercedes, why you put him in that seat next year?
39:58
If he's in a Williams next year, who's to say Kimi's a shoot just wants to go to Mercedes
40:02
if Mercedes drops the ball and their development's not there for 2026?
40:05
Pulls a pastry.
40:06
You're a lot more likely to stay with the team you're already on than, and you're, when
40:10
you're a contender, right?
40:12
If you're on a Williams, obviously you're going to go to whoever would offer you better.
40:15
That's of the top five.
40:17
But I mean, that's why I think that Mercedes is afraid of losing him because a similar
40:21
thing happened with Verstappen.
40:23
They don't want to lose the young gun who's the prodigy of F1 for the next 10 years.
40:31
You don't want to lose that potential.
40:32
So you think Kimi's in the Mercedes next year?
40:34
I do.
40:35
Cause then the other kicker here with that here as well, right?
40:38
Let's say Kimi just epically drops the ball next year.
40:41
So you go find whoever's in 2026 with the new regs, you go with the driver market.
40:46
That's going to be pretty open at the time as well.
40:48
And you find that other driver.
40:49
You got George locked down.
40:51
So it's George ain't going anywhere.
40:52
Yeah.
40:53
No, George's not going anywhere.
40:54
So see what you got in Kimi.
40:55
I think there's, it only makes sense to put him into Mercedes next year, to put him into
40:59
Williams, see what you got.
41:00
I understand that point, see if he can perform at the F1 level, but that would be, I would,
41:05
I would understand that if there was a good person to put in the Mercedes seat.
41:08
There isn't.
41:09
Carlos is not going there.
41:10
If they can get science.
41:11
He's on long term.
41:12
Carlos isn't the long term plan for them obviously.
41:14
Exactly.
41:15
And why would he be?
41:16
Right.
41:17
Right.
41:18
So like if you're Carlos, like why would you go and sign that with that team that you're,
41:20
you're all, you know, you're only going to have a spot like definitively for one year.
41:24
Now there's a chance Kimi goes into Williams, messes up and Carlos gets a long-term deal
41:27
with Mercedes.
41:29
But if Carlos were to go to Williams this year, sign a one year deal, Kimi messes up
41:33
at Mercedes.
41:34
I'm going to hate that.
41:35
Now he might have a longer spot at Mercedes than if Kimi messes up.
41:39
Him going to Williams is like a botus going to Sauber.
41:42
But I think that's probably the most likely case.
41:44
I mean, what, I don't know if it's their, their team boss or whatever came out and said
41:48
the number one target now is Carlos for Williams.
41:50
And I mean for Carlos, it's just.
41:53
That's for every team I think right now.
41:54
Of course, of course.
41:57
But if you're Carlos, if you can't be in those arguably top four teams, right?
42:01
Red Bull, Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari, like then what?
42:05
Then what?
42:06
Then you take whatever you can get because you already have, what is it already like
42:09
a line, a deal already lined up or he didn't.
42:11
It was on the table and he decided not to sign it.
42:14
With Williams?
42:15
For Audi Sauber coming up.
42:16
I don't know.
42:17
I haven't heard anything because there was like the, you had to make the decision by
42:19
what race was it?
42:20
Right.
42:21
But then we heard Monaco, wasn't it?
42:22
No, it wasn't Monaco.
42:23
It was before Monaco.
42:24
What was the race before Monaco?
42:26
Imola.
42:27
It was, they wanted a race and the answer by Imola.
42:29
I haven't heard it.
42:30
Yeah.
42:31
I haven't heard anything since then.
42:32
Like whether Audi.
42:33
For one way or the other.
42:34
Whether Audi pulled the contract.
42:35
Obviously Carlos didn't accept.
42:37
Right.
42:38
So that leads us into Carlos then, you know, obviously like what, what are his options
42:43
now?
42:44
We talked about Ocon's options.
42:45
What is Carlos realistic options?
42:46
I feel like he's got to have the playing field right now.
42:49
I still feel like obviously like, uh, even if Audi we said, you know, they have this
42:55
amount of time until he's done and then like Mercedes maybe just done with him.
43:00
I think he's still, if he really wants to go anywhere, I think he can go anywhere.
43:03
He might not get the same price he wanted to originally at the beginning of the season,
43:06
but I still think he can go where he wants to go.
43:08
But maybe he's viewing it as like maybe sign a one year deal and then hopefully hit new
43:13
regs and you know, maybe he can be a player somewhere else.
43:16
But that's, I mean, what do you do?
43:18
What if you do if you're college for that one year deal?
43:20
Do you try to get a championship or you just get the bag?
43:23
Well, no, he's not going to be able to, he's not going to be able to sign with anybody.
43:27
There's one team that has the potential to do that and that's Mercedes and you're only
43:30
getting a one year deal.
43:31
All right.
43:32
Is it a shoe in for a championship?
43:34
No, but you have a hell of a lot better chance at it.
43:36
Any other team that has an open.
43:37
But back on that, then, is it even worth it for Mercedes to sign Carlos for a discount?
43:41
Right.
43:42
They'll do it.
43:43
One year.
43:44
They've already come out and said they'll do it to risk losing Antonelli then potentially.
43:47
Is that worth it to Mercedes?
43:48
Well, I think so.
43:49
If they can get Carlos, I think Carlos is Carlos would compete in the Mercedes because
43:54
Carlos.
43:55
So you put Carlos in the car next year.
43:56
You have Carlos and George.
43:57
That puts them in the best financial situation to go into 2026 because they are going to
44:02
finish better in the constructor sand is then you would assume Kimmy and George would.
44:06
Who knows?
44:07
Kimmy comes in and could win 15 races next year.
44:09
Yeah, I think, you know, is it going to happen?
44:12
No.
44:13
Yeah, especially in Mercedes.
44:14
But for a team perspective, I definitely think that's the safest option for Mercedes to do
44:19
because like you get in for one year, he doesn't cut it, get Antonelli in.
44:23
But if he does cut it, maybe just keep Antonelli at Williams and keep, you know, the veteran
44:27
of science.
44:28
Then you're losing Antonelli.
44:29
There's no way Kimmy, like with the Kimmy's talent that he has right now and the potential,
44:35
he's not in a contender.
44:36
I mean, sign, make him sign a contract that says you're with Williams for one year plus
44:41
one year option.
44:42
You get moved to Mercedes, maybe.
44:44
Right.
44:45
Why would he do that?
44:46
And that's saying Antonelli got the Mercedes seat for next year or something.
44:49
No, no, no Williams.
44:50
No.
44:51
Oh, if Antonelli.
44:52
And if science got, science got Mercedes, no, science got Mercedes and then Antonelli
44:56
got Williams.
44:57
I really, really hope that science doesn't go to Williams because I feel like that's
45:01
just that's just going to wear you out.
45:03
I feel like the key ends the career.
45:05
What better option is there?
45:08
What better option is there outside of obviously Mercedes?
45:10
Steak isn't good either, but long term that gets turned into Audi and that's like, that's
45:15
like a perfect scenario.
45:16
Who knows?
45:17
For Carlos.
45:18
Potentially.
45:19
The Audi might be super bad, but like you have Carlos, his dad races Audis, right?
45:26
And it just, it just makes sense.
45:28
I've built this like fantasy story in my head that I've been sticking to since I've learned
45:32
that Carlos doesn't have the Ferrari seat.
45:34
He just, I think he needs to go to stake for that Audi seat.
45:37
But yeah, hearing that Williams has been, I mean, they've been all over social media,
45:41
I feel like talking about him.
45:43
It's a little scary.
45:44
I want him.
45:45
I'm not going to lie.
45:46
And I mean, I think you look at Williams with an Albans science pairing for at least a year.
45:50
I mean, more than likely Carlos is going to sign a multi-year deal.
45:53
Whether he sticks to it or not is beside the point, but that's a damn good pairing for
45:58
a mid-level team.
45:59
That's the most, this is the best outlook Williams has had for a minute.
46:03
You're fighting for five, six at that point with those two.
46:04
A hundred percent, a hundred percent.
46:06
Especially Albin looks like he's gotten some pace these last couple of races.
46:09
Albin's been picking it up.
46:10
I mean, you get him, you get him a car underneath him.
46:12
He's a dog.
46:13
Yeah.
46:14
No.
46:15
Yeah.
46:16
I really wish he would have got that Red Bull seat.
46:17
Yeah.
46:18
Yeah.
46:19
I can't tell you how upsetting that Red Bull did that.
46:20
And I hope it's to their demise.
46:21
Oh yeah, let's talk about that.
46:22
Yeah, go for it.
46:23
Yeah.
46:24
Lead right into it.
46:25
Can't go obviously sign the deal.
46:26
I hope it's to their demise.
46:27
I think we're going to see by the end of the year, I don't think he makes it to two years.
46:31
Yeah.
46:32
Okay.
46:33
I think after next year, maybe even mid season, they're pulling that guy.
46:36
It's the team option.
46:37
The team can decide to sign him for another year.
46:40
I don't know how it was in F1.
46:41
I thought it was a two year deal with a third year team option.
46:43
Oh, I thought it was a two year with the second year being the option.
46:46
I can double check.
46:47
I don't.
46:48
Yeah, double check.
46:49
Yeah, look that up.
46:50
I used to like NFL contracts and player options.
46:51
Is that even a thing in F1?
46:53
Is there a driver option or is it only team options that can extend you for that extra
46:57
year?
46:58
They can't get rid of him after one year either way.
46:59
Well, I mean, if you sign them to your contract, you get rid of it the first year.
47:02
You still got to pay him for that second year.
47:03
Yeah, I think they take that risk.
47:05
Depends on how much.
47:06
I'm saying no matter what, no matter what the contract is, I don't think that he is
47:12
there for two years.
47:13
Yeah.
47:14
No matter what the outcome is, no matter what the actual layout of the contract is, I don't
47:19
think he's there for two years.
47:20
I think it's dumb for them to do that.
47:22
And it almost because of social media.
47:24
And again, it's social media, so we don't really know the full story.
47:27
But because he seemed to be the one that was asking for the two year deal, then they said,
47:32
yeah, let's do it kind of.
47:33
That's what it looks like on the outside looking in because it looked like on the outside looking
47:36
in, they wanted to offer him a one year deal.
47:38
And he was like, no, he wasn't about that.
47:40
And he wants to.
47:41
Yeah.
47:42
And he finally got that.
47:43
Oops.
47:44
Oops.
47:45
Right.
47:46
It looks like there's no team or driver option.
47:49
It's a two year deal.
47:50
So it looks like Checo, though.
47:51
It looks like Checo got the upper hand on that deal, and that makes Red Bull look dumb.
47:55
But you're saying that you don't think even though it's a two year deal, you don't think
47:59
even makes it those two years.
48:01
Just that Red Bull take it, take a bite.
48:03
But who would you put in there to pay?
48:07
Hey, you got to also pay certain.
48:09
Oh, wait, hold on.
48:11
Whoever that's not that's not Checo.
48:14
That's a big oof by them.
48:15
They just lost themselves potential winning a couple more constructors by not putting
48:20
a better driver in that seat.
48:21
If you want to compete with Hamilton and Leclerc, if that car keeps getting better or McLaren
48:26
or McLaren, when those drivers keep getting better, you can not have Checo in that second
48:30
seat.
48:31
It'll not pan out the next couple of years.
48:32
Good.
48:33
So heading into next season while these two keep going on the keyboards, you're thinking
48:37
that Max and Checo, you know, you got Leclerc, Lewis and then obviously the two McLaren
48:43
fellows going into next season.
48:46
Do you have Red Bull winning the constructors next season?
48:49
No, no, they're going to have a tough time winning it this year.
48:52
No, for sure.
48:53
We're already seeing that for sure.
48:54
With Checo, they're going to have a tough time winning it.
48:55
And I think that it's going to be one of those moves by the end of the year.
48:58
This year, everybody's going to be like Red Bull.
49:00
What were you thinking?
49:01
And now that brings up the question of Max that we won't even touch on today because
49:05
it'll be way too long of a conversation.
49:07
But now you bring up the Max situation.
49:09
Does Max end up departing?
49:11
So for clarification on Checo's contract, it was a one plus one.
49:15
So we don't know what that means because the team is not going to release that information.
49:18
But it's a one year deal for sure.
49:20
It's a one plus one is how Horner said it.
49:23
That's open for interpretation.
49:24
Horner literally said it.
49:25
Horner came out and said it.
49:27
So there's clauses within that.
49:30
So he's here for one year.
49:31
Hey, he also said 2026, new driver, right?
49:35
Within that same like, they also mentioned Yuki's contract extension and Horner came
49:42
out and said afterwards that they're all Red Bull drivers.
49:46
Oh, that's interesting.
49:48
The play on words there, I think is like some swap next season.
49:52
So yeah, do you think he, I mean, so I think I feel like Checo is probably racing most
49:58
of next year no matter what.
49:59
But when 2026 comes around, yeah, maybe they swap him over to Alvatar for Yuki or something
50:03
like that.
50:04
That'd be crazy.
50:05
That would be, I mean, at the moment, Danny Rick's still there too.
50:07
I think Danny's there next year.
50:08
I think Danny's got his pretty much all but confirmed.
50:11
Which sucks because I want to see Liam in the car.
50:13
But I also like Danny too.
50:15
It's just, I don't know.
50:16
The toughest thing for me about F1 is the amount of just same faces you see.
50:21
And I love Danny Rick, but like it's tough to see the same faces every year.
50:26
Like you get maybe two new faces every year, but the rest of them you don't.
50:30
Maybe if you're lucky.
50:31
Yeah.
50:32
And you know the rest of them, so it's kind of tough.
50:33
And I get like they bounce teams and stuff, but.
50:35
Maybe two new colors with like people switching teams, but two new faces.
50:38
Like that's just a huge rarity.
50:40
Yeah.
50:41
And it'll be interesting next year because if you look at like the new faces that would
50:44
come in next year, who would they be?
50:45
There's really only two candidates and it's Kimmy and Oli Behrman.
50:50
And Liam.
50:51
And Liam and Jack Dewan.
50:52
I mean, reserve drivers.
50:53
Jack Dewan, yeah.
50:54
They're not new faces, but you know.
50:55
No, no, no.
50:56
That's what I'm meaning though.
50:57
That's what I'm meaning.
50:58
Different, different drivers on the grid.
51:00
I didn't think of Alpine because Alpine I think it only makes sense if it was Dewan
51:03
and Gaston next year.
51:04
I don't think Liam has a seat next year.
51:06
I think that's all we're going to do.
51:07
Yeah, I think so too.
51:08
Behrman deserves one obviously with Haas.
51:10
Behrman sure should get one.
51:11
Behrman's going to get it.
51:12
But Behrman's not doing good enough too right now.
51:14
Yeah, but I think he's kind of like, you know, he's proved himself a little bit.
51:19
I think I think he's probably fine.
51:20
I mean, he did get points in his first F1 race.
51:23
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
51:24
It was in a Ferrari, but I mean, he's never driven an F1 car before.
51:28
So or at least at that level.
51:30
So obviously we've already mentioned Yuki staying at V-Car then too.
51:34
It was like, yeah, it was wasn't it like a three?
51:37
I did not put down what it was.
51:40
Oh, no, it's one year.
51:41
So Yuki's only there guaranteed for 2025.
51:43
So yeah, he's still.
51:45
And then you got the plus one on synergy.
51:47
And Danny Rick probably get the same deal one year.
51:49
I think so.
51:50
They're not going to get him too.
51:52
I feel like last time we were talking, I think we were all saying a different tune that Danny's
51:56
probably gone.
51:57
Right.
51:58
So maybe rest of the season, maybe this was just like a good race for him and he just
52:00
kind of starts messing up again.
52:02
We're back on our old tune of like, he's not keeping him.
52:04
When was the last time they had a team switch drivers?
52:07
Was that when Red Bull pulled Gastly out and put in Albon or whatever?
52:12
Or did they pull Albon and put Gastly?
52:13
I can't remember.
52:14
They both moved up that year.
52:15
They pulled them both.
52:16
They pulled one season and one literally the next season.
52:18
Who was the driver that got kicked though?
52:20
Who was the driver that lost their seat?
52:22
Was it Red Bull driver that?
52:24
Well, Gastly was with Ricardo first, right?
52:26
And then he got pulled for Albon?
52:27
But did Albon start the year as a Red Bull driver?
52:28
No, I don't think Albon started the year as a Red Bull driver.
52:31
I know I just hope he can't.
52:32
Gastly got moved up to Red Bull after Danny left.
52:36
Mid-season, Gastly got kicked for Albon.
52:38
That's right.
52:39
Albon started the year.
52:40
Albon stayed for a year and a half and then got kicked for Checo and Albon was out a seat
52:44
for that year and then he moved to Williams the next year after that.
52:47
So Gastly went back down to Alfatari and stayed there.
52:51
He didn't lose a seat at all.
52:52
But Albon did not lose a seat mid-season.
52:54
He gained the seat and then lost it after the second season he was in.
52:57
Got it.
52:58
Okay.
52:59
Oh, so Albon didn't lose it during the year.
53:00
No.
53:01
Is that a possibility for next season then?
53:03
I know.
53:04
I know.
53:05
And then we'll move on because we don't want to stay on there.
53:06
I 100% think so.
53:07
That's why I think that.
53:08
Checo for Yuki?
53:09
I mean, I think it's a subliminal horn or saying that they're all Red Bull drivers.
53:12
I mean, in that tune he's also including that.
53:14
Does that keep Ricardo in that conversation?
53:16
Ricardo wasn't brought up in that conversation.
53:18
So in that tune you would think the RBs, whoever those two are, are Red Bull drivers.
53:22
It's not just Yuki of those.
53:25
But it's interesting.
53:26
I agree with you though, Cole.
53:27
I don't think Checo finishes the year next year as a Red Bull driver.
53:30
By the end of the year, we're all going to be, the last podcast, we're all going to be
53:34
laughing that they even made that deal.
53:35
I'm already laughing.
53:36
I'm already laughing.
53:37
Yeah.
53:38
And that's a bad deal.
53:39
Yeah, a little bit harder though, dude.
53:40
I was 50-50.
53:41
I figured we'd see at least another one.
53:43
Because who else are they going to put in other than Carlos?
53:47
Science!
53:48
Science!
53:49
Science!
53:50
No, we're talking about science.
53:51
Every day of the week.
53:52
Other than Carlos, who would it have been, right?
53:53
Nobody.
53:54
So if they know they can't afford Carlos or don't want to afford Carlos, then you sign
53:59
Sergio like they did.
54:00
I would have gotten Albán.
54:01
I would have gotten Albán in another spot up there.
54:03
Yeah.
54:04
Oh, that would have been nice.
54:05
Science!
54:06
I would have given Bott us a spot before Checo.
54:07
I would have given Yuki a spot before Checo.
54:08
Give Yuki or Danny a chance. Yuki and Danny are finishing higher than Checo when Checo's in the better car.
54:16
Like it just, it doesn't, I don't know, it's such a bad decision.
54:20
We also gotta look at this from a larger lens though and look at the whole year.
54:24
Yeah.
54:24
Cause where's Checo in comparison to Danny and Yuki in the overall grand scheme of things?
54:29
The driver point.
54:29
Okay.
54:30
Like he's still fifth.
54:31
Two different cars.
54:32
This point was brought up to me by someone else that I was talking to about this last race
54:37
and also talking about the contract with.
54:40
Do you think Red Bull even like, do you think they're even really like trying super hard to get that constructors
54:45
or are they just focusing solely on Max getting driver?
54:48
I think they go hand in hand.
54:49
I think they want both.
54:52
They want the money brother.
54:53
With getting, yeah, with getting, and that's kind of the point I brought up as well.
54:57
But with giving Checo that one year, one plus one year, like they're not focusing on a team effort if they signed him like that, right?
55:07
Well, but like last year, the last year they even said with Checo, they were like, he's gonna have to step up his performance
55:14
if they want to see him in a car next year.
55:15
They said that about Checo last season because of the fact entirely around the constructors.
55:20
I think it's the same thing this year.
55:21
I think they're honestly probably banking on Max a little too much this year.
55:25
I think it's gonna not pan out for them well and it's gonna be a big change next year.
55:29
But I think I just blanked on his name, the president.
55:37
Horner.
55:38
I think Horner wants both.
55:40
He wants the constructors and the drivers just the same.
55:44
For sure he does.
55:46
Speaking of leaving Red Bull and all that, Nui obviously we know is out.
55:50
He's now very strongly rumored to be going to Ferrari on a three year deal.
55:57
They're 105 million.
55:59
Oops.
56:00
So tell me this, with Red Bull not having to pay this dude, how can't they afford Sianz?
56:07
That's a good point.
56:08
Do you think that's why they didn't want to pay Sianz though?
56:10
No, I don't think Red Bull was even coming close to paying him this much money.
56:15
Nui?
56:16
No, no, Nui.
56:17
I don't think Red Bull was paying him anything remotely close to $34 million.
56:21
Sorry, sorry.
56:22
I was thinking.
56:23
I think Ferrari is going all in on, obviously Charles is their boy, but Lewis is sniffing
56:30
Mick.
56:31
I think he, we could see Lewis coming back strongly.
56:35
How can a Ferrari afford Lewis and Nui?
56:38
It's Ferrari, they have cost caps.
56:41
They don't have cost caps for personnel, they have cost caps for driver improvements.
56:45
Don't they have cost caps for drivers too?
56:48
I don't think that factors into it.
56:50
They have cost caps for personnel, but maybe not drivers.
56:52
I'm pretty sure they have it for personnel.
56:54
I don't think that factors into it because you got to, because remember when Aston stole
56:57
75% of Red Bull or Mercedes, whatever it was, team, that couldn't have come cheap.
57:02
Yeah.
57:03
So it's like, I think the cost cap is solely to do with upgrading the car and which limitations
57:09
you can place on the car itself.
57:10
And also, I just feel like that wouldn't make sense if they did that anyway, because if
57:14
you're the top guy like Nui, let him rip.
57:17
Yeah, and I think what Ferrari is doing, if this is true, is they are banking on the new
57:22
regs with having Nui under belt.
57:23
Oh, for sure.
57:24
It does include team personnel, excluding the drivers.
57:27
Excluding the drivers.
57:28
Drivers are out, but yeah, team personnel.
57:29
So that's still 105 million for one of their personnel.
57:33
Maybe he isn't included, this has most team personnel salaries, so maybe he isn't included.
57:37
There's probably a loophole they can get away with it.
57:41
He's working on a hyper car.
57:42
You can give them a title, they can do some stuff like NFL does, they can change up the
57:50
salary, make it benefit them.
57:52
I feel like there's so many ways you could just fluctuate it.
57:55
Sorry, I keep finding more and more.
57:57
The cost cap does not include the wages of the three highest paid staff members.
58:01
There you go.
58:02
There's a loophole.
58:03
Wow.
58:04
Give him a hundred times as much as we can give him, because we have the money and it
58:08
won't matter.
58:09
Yeah, that's crazy.
58:10
That's interesting how there's that in there.
58:12
You could literally have the three most expensive personnel members in the world, and it doesn't
58:17
count against your cap.
58:18
I mean, that's kind of where being a bigger company or a bigger brand, that's where you're
58:28
at.
58:29
Winning races.
58:30
Yeah.
58:31
Ferrari doesn't have a cap limitation.
58:35
Mercedes doesn't either.
58:38
Red Bull does, because it's obviously Red Bull, they're huge in the action sports on
58:43
top of the energy drink.
58:45
Speaking of the energy drink, I'm going to go back to Checo just for really, really,
58:49
really quick.
58:50
Yeah, I literally got a serious head end in your Spain preview.
58:52
Another theory I heard of why Checo got the gear extension is because of the Red Bull
58:56
sales in Mexico.
58:58
If they drop him, think of that just dipping.
59:01
It wasn't only that, that was a huge play in it, but it was the sponsorships, they would
59:05
lose as a whole.
59:06
Oh, true.
59:07
Yeah.
59:08
I heard that.
59:09
Checo is huge.
59:10
I heard that.
59:11
He's the biggest one.
59:12
He's crazy marketable down there.
59:13
Yeah, and he like, I mean, the drivers, a lot of the reason why they get their spot
59:16
is the sponsorships they bring.
59:17
It's not about talent.
59:18
Well, it is about talent to a certain, obviously.
59:20
But it's like, but with the money that you bring to the team in sponsorships alone,
59:25
that's how a lot of these guys get their start.
59:28
Good point.
59:29
That's how the Russian guy had to bring that Mazda spin.
59:32
Yeah, that's how Mazda spin get in.
59:33
Latifi, same thing.
59:34
But so real quick, I heard that, who was the old Ferrari president before?
59:39
Mario?
59:40
Mario.
59:41
Matteo Benato.
59:43
Matteo.
59:44
Matteo.
59:45
The guy that was buddies with Gunther.
59:48
Yeah, Matteo.
59:49
Yeah, Matteo.
59:50
I heard that he's going to Aston Martin.
59:54
I think I heard something similar.
59:55
I heard that a few weeks ago.
59:57
Not as a president, but to work.
59:59
Principal.
1:00:00
They're not presidents.
1:00:01
Principal, whatever.
1:00:04
Your world, homie.
1:00:05
But I thought I heard a rumor of that actually a few weeks ago.
1:00:10
That he's going to Aston, not for the principal.
1:00:13
Not for the principal, but.
1:00:14
There was another high up.
1:00:15
Yeah, it was a big position.
1:00:16
Yeah.
1:00:17
Probably one of those three you don't have to worry about on the cap.
1:00:24
You got anything to add real quick?
1:00:25
I'm not finding anything on him.
1:00:26
I thought I saw the same thing.
1:00:28
I thought I did too.
1:00:29
It does sound familiar.
1:00:30
Maybe it didn't pan out or something.
1:00:31
Locked it in as fact.
1:00:32
Probably his dark web.
1:00:33
Kev, let's head to the Spain preview.
1:00:50
And obviously right off the bat with their Spain preview, Joe's kind of got our rundown
1:00:54
of last year's Spanish Grand Prix.
1:00:57
Joe, take it away.
1:00:58
Yes, talking about the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya last this year's is called Formula
1:01:04
One Aramico Gran Premio de España 2024.
1:01:09
This is thank you.
1:01:10
Thank you.
1:01:11
Like I said, I'm going to try I'm going to try naming them out every single race.
1:01:14
This is just a personal note.
1:01:15
This is probably one of my best tracks in the in the actual game.
1:01:18
I feel like I crush this track.
1:01:22
A quick, a quick fun fact.
1:01:23
He makes it to corner four.
1:01:25
Yeah, yeah.
1:01:26
And then I spin.
1:01:27
One of them.
1:01:29
This is Fernando Alonso's most recent F1 win came at the circuit in 2013.
1:01:35
Another quick fact, the circuit is an amazing for overtakes, but we did see a little bit
1:01:39
of action last year that I'll jump into.
1:01:42
The start was Max Carlos and Lando.
1:01:44
We saw the start of the race.
1:01:45
Carlos fighting Max through the first few turns.
1:01:48
He got beaten by the Dutchman.
1:01:49
Meanwhile, behind them, a bit of contact between Lewis and Lando season, McLaren fallback slightly
1:01:53
due to front wing damage.
1:01:56
Alonso has to pit early for a new wing, ruining his chances of his best finish so far in 2023.
1:02:00
This is still when the car was not looking amazing.
1:02:04
It was right at the turning point, I would say.
1:02:07
For eight laps, we saw Stroll running third ahead of Hamilton before he made a move that
1:02:10
gave him the overtake in the first corner.
1:02:13
On lap 28, after the first round of pits, we saw him go for the overtake on signs for
1:02:17
second and Lewis makes that stick.
1:02:20
Seven laps later, Russell makes the overtake on signs to collect the final podium position
1:02:24
with 30 laps to go in the race.
1:02:26
Alonso shows seniority to his old teammate Ocon going for the overtake on lap 52 and
1:02:31
fighting through Ocon's super late wide defensive move, slotting him into seventh behind his
1:02:35
teammate.
1:02:36
Perez, who qualified 11th for Red Bull, actually had a very strong race, finding his way through
1:02:40
the field and overtaking signs for fourth in lap 53, 13 laps before the end of the race.
1:02:46
That move solidifies our final grid position, Max finishing first, a whopping 24 seconds
1:02:51
ahead of the two Mercedes, who fill out the rest of the podium, with Perez four seconds
1:02:56
and Ferrari another 10 seconds behind.
1:02:58
Our final was for Stappen to Hamilton, to Russell, to Perez, to signs, to Stroll, to
1:03:03
Alonso, to Ocon, to Joe, and then to Gasly.
1:03:07
Sonota was in the points, but he got a penalty for forcing Joe off the track.
1:03:11
Both McLarens finished out of the points, Piastri 13th and Nor 17th.
1:03:16
Ferrari's only hope was signs today, but he was unable to keep his position and he
1:03:19
finishes fifth, Leclerc finishing 12th.
1:03:22
This was a really good day for Mercedes, both got onto the podium, Russell climbing nine
1:03:25
positions to get his placement during the race.
1:03:28
So I think a couple things to note, Checo, good on this track.
1:03:33
I think Red Bull in general were good on this track last year.
1:03:37
McLaren, Lando qualified really well, but he got bad damage, so I wouldn't put his final
1:03:43
position.
1:03:44
I wouldn't say that that really means anything this year.
1:03:46
And then Mercedes, also very good on this track, so I don't have them in my predictions,
1:03:52
but we might see another good race for Mercedes this weekend.
1:03:54
Yeah, no, that's what I'm thinking for sure.
1:03:57
I mean, do you see, I don't know, that's really pushing it.
1:04:04
I don't know, but with how well Mercedes ran last week.
1:04:08
It's such a different beast about that final chicane right before the last turn.
1:04:11
Yeah, and all the drivers love it too.
1:04:13
Makes overtaking so much nicer.
1:04:16
Coming into that.
1:04:17
This is a bottleneck right there that obviously McLaren is going to have a way better day
1:04:21
than they did.
1:04:22
Oh, yeah.
1:04:23
Last season, I would imagine.
1:04:24
I think we see Ferrari bounce back for sure.
1:04:27
I think Mercedes can have another good race.
1:04:29
Last year, they had two good races this time of year.
1:04:32
They had a good race last year.
1:04:33
I think these tracks just line up for that car.
1:04:35
If Lewis has an actual good drive by his definition, I don't know.
1:04:41
I don't want to like get crazy here and say Lewis is on the podium.
1:04:45
Let's say it again.
1:04:46
I mean, Lewis, mid to end of the season, every year will show out.
1:04:52
So he does.
1:04:53
This is when I'm just looking at the Wikipedia of last year's kind of results here, and this
1:04:57
is when Lewis kind of made that turn in the season.
1:05:00
No, granted, last year.
1:05:03
I don't know, man.
1:05:04
I'm going to take a risk on my podium when we get there.
1:05:08
Same.
1:05:09
I'm going to take a risk.
1:05:10
But do we see a guy like like Danny Rick, not that we got to keep beating, beating a
1:05:16
dead horse on Danny Rick's name.
1:05:18
I mean, we always talk about him.
1:05:19
But do we see a guy like Danny Rick or the Alpines?
1:05:22
Do they have an opportunity to even get into points this week or because those Ferraris,
1:05:27
we're assuming, will be in that top 10.
1:05:29
Does that push a couple of these guys out?
1:05:31
Stroll might be in that conversation.
1:05:33
Do we see Hulkenberg have a better day?
1:05:35
You know what I mean?
1:05:36
Who's going to be that eight, nine, ten area?
1:05:38
I see a difference.
1:05:40
I mean, yeah, maybe.
1:05:43
I think Elbon is going to have a good race this week.
1:05:44
You missed the B first time, threw me off.
1:05:47
But I think we see Hulkenberg for sure up there with that car.
1:05:55
I think we see a bad race from Aston.
1:05:57
See a bad race from Aston.
1:05:59
We see a bad race from Aston, both the Astons.
1:06:03
And then we're going to see one of the racing bulls.
1:06:07
We're going to see either Yuki or Danny Rick.
1:06:11
I'm curious to see if Danny Rick can finish in front of Yuki again.
1:06:16
I don't think it's another good race for Alpine.
1:06:19
I think we're going to see back to almost kind of what we saw earlier in the season.
1:06:25
Kind of the top dogs are up there again, I think this race.
1:06:27
And I think we see, you know, we're going to see like the one Haas.
1:06:31
I think we see one of the racing bulls and it's going to be interesting.
1:06:35
I think we're going to see the same kind of fight going up top.
1:06:38
I think we'll see a different switch of the fight.
1:06:40
You said bad day for Aston, maybe you think Alonso still in points type of bad day or
1:06:45
do you think he's out of points?
1:06:47
I mean, I'm assuming if you're saying Aston's having a bad day, Stroll's not sniffing points.
1:06:51
No, but no.
1:06:52
What about what about your boy Alonso?
1:06:55
If Alonso sniffing points, he's fighting 910.
1:06:59
He's not going to have another seven, eight race or six, seven, eight race.
1:07:02
Well, again, I think they only finished that high.
1:07:04
And two Ferraris that automatically drops them another two spots from from Canada.
1:07:09
But no, I think that's something to pay attention to.
1:07:11
I mean, if you got eight.
1:07:12
Aston didn't look bad.
1:07:13
They finished six, seven.
1:07:14
But if you have eight, right, if you have eight of the top four teams, I think all eight
1:07:18
are in the top ten.
1:07:20
Barring an engine issue or something that all eight are in the top ten this track, especially
1:07:24
with how good Mercedes looks now.
1:07:27
Now who's the other two?
1:07:28
910.
1:07:29
Haas has got the top end speed.
1:07:31
I think we see one of the Haas up there.
1:07:33
I think it's Nico.
1:07:34
He's got the top end speed.
1:07:35
Fastest track.
1:07:36
And I mean, the reality is, I mean, the racing bulls look good right now.
1:07:39
They look very good.
1:07:40
Both drivers look good.
1:07:42
And I think we see one of those two in the other other spots.
1:07:45
I think we see a Haas and a racing bull in 910 or 810 type situation.
1:07:51
Interesting.
1:07:52
Is this a comeback week for Checo?
1:07:54
It has to.
1:07:55
Oh, scratch that, scratch that.
1:07:57
We will not see all the top four in the top eight.
1:08:01
Checo is either 10 or 10 or out.
1:08:05
I think that three like he's not somebody he has not shown this year that he can climb
1:08:10
like he did last year at all.
1:08:11
He doesn't have that climb.
1:08:12
I think no matter who he's fighting with, it doesn't matter.
1:08:15
I think that three place grid penalty.
1:08:18
Oh, I keep forgetting about that.
1:08:21
So I mean, he might finish.
1:08:23
He might quality 1213, maybe climbs to 10.
1:08:27
Maybe.
1:08:28
Dude, that's a good point.
1:08:29
I think three place grid penalty for him, too.
1:08:32
Yeah, yeah.
1:08:33
If we see them in, it's at the bottom.
1:08:36
If we see him in there and I think if he's not in there, I think again, I think it's
1:08:42
either Albon.
1:08:44
If Checo is not in the top 10, it's either Albon or Danny Rick in the top 10 in that
1:08:49
10th spot.
1:08:52
So since you're since you got the floor, what's your podium?
1:08:57
My podium is going to be Verstappen.
1:09:00
Classic.
1:09:01
I'm waiting for him.
1:09:02
He's checking weather Verstappen.
1:09:05
I'm going to put Lando.
1:09:06
Yeah.
1:09:07
And I'm going to put Hamilton.
1:09:08
Oh, I'll go next.
1:09:09
I got the same thing.
1:09:10
Oh, whoa.
1:09:11
Oh, I'm going to be the one that won out looking at me.
1:09:19
I'm going to go with Verstappen.
1:09:22
Of course.
1:09:23
That was tough.
1:09:25
I'm going to go with Verstappen in second.
1:09:27
You're going Verstappen in second.
1:09:28
I think Lando is going to win this race.
1:09:30
Lando is going to win this race.
1:09:33
I'm going Verstappen, Charles and then Lando.
1:09:40
Okay.
1:09:41
Very close to yours actually.
1:09:43
I'm going Max Lando in signs.
1:09:45
Signs?
1:09:46
Okay.
1:09:47
It's his home race.
1:09:49
I'm done.
1:09:50
I gave up on putting him in the top three.
1:09:51
I gave up on it.
1:09:52
You gave up on putting signs in your top three?
1:09:54
So many times I lost so many points this year because I put that guy in my top three.
1:09:58
This is the race.
1:09:59
Just to give an update on the standings.
1:10:02
To give an update on the standings, not the best week from Cole and Joe last week.
1:10:07
Only getting one point.
1:10:08
Smelting on it.
1:10:09
We both got two.
1:10:10
So we are both currently tied for the lead with 16 points.
1:10:13
Joe is in third with 15 and Cole is bringing up the rear with 13.
1:10:16
Three is my lucky number.
1:10:18
It's the signs, bro.
1:10:19
Signs is killing me.
1:10:20
Signs has been killing me a whole year, dude.
1:10:21
I mean Russell last week just instantly screwed us all.
1:10:25
Got us all one point out.
1:10:27
That was wild.
1:10:28
And then between you guys it was LeClair.
1:10:32
You know what should be fun for next season?
1:10:34
Would be getting an extra point for quality P1.
1:10:37
Who's going to quality P1?
1:10:39
We can start doing it the rest of the year.
1:10:42
Extra bonus point.
1:10:43
We can start doing it the rest of the year.
1:10:44
Yeah, quality.
1:10:45
Little bonus point.
1:10:46
I'm going to have to add a whole other line to all of these.
1:10:48
I pre-made this spreadsheet for the whole year.
1:10:52
No, it's all good.
1:10:54
We can do it.
1:10:55
You got to lead us off.
1:11:00
Max.
1:11:06
Not to be really lame on the first time we're doing it, but.
1:11:10
I got Lando.
1:11:11
Let's put me in for Lando.
1:11:13
I was going to say Lando too.
1:11:14
I was hoping I could be a little odd this week because I need the points, dude.
1:11:18
I have the same lineup as Tyler and you're Tyler first.
1:11:21
Take Lewis.
1:11:22
Take Lewis for Paul.
1:11:23
Ah, it's just a stretch.
1:11:24
Don't listen to me.
1:11:25
You're in last place.
1:11:26
What are you doing?
1:11:28
Although I was in last place for a hot minute and I started taking risks.
1:11:32
I thought I was taking a risk with Lando.
1:11:33
But then we have money on this.
1:11:35
Joe, who's your.
1:11:37
Oh, it's going to be for Stappen.
1:11:40
100%.
1:11:41
Maxwell.
1:11:42
He's coming back.
1:11:43
All right, screw it.
1:11:44
We'll try it out.
1:11:45
See what happens.
1:11:46
I like that extra little bonus point.
1:11:49
We should do a little extra cheddar.
1:11:52
Let's do it this way.
1:11:53
You pick this race.
1:11:55
The other three of us, any one of the races we get to pick a race we want the extra one.
1:11:58
What do you mean?
1:11:59
So only do it four times this season.
1:12:01
No, let's do it every race.
1:12:03
So we start picking who's going to finish last.
1:12:05
So we should we start picking who's going to finish last.
1:12:08
Logan Logan Logan.
1:12:09
That'd be kind of fun though.
1:12:12
That'd be kind of fun.
1:12:14
Look, a boost point, we call it.
1:12:15
Or the 10th.
1:12:16
That'd be cool.
1:12:17
Call it 10th.
1:12:18
Call it 10th would be fun.
1:12:19
Call it 10th, we get three points.
1:12:20
Wow.
1:12:21
Boy, now we're getting.
1:12:22
I think that's that's too many points.
1:12:24
Now we're getting crazy.
1:12:25
I need them.
1:12:26
Call it 10th is interesting.
1:12:27
Well, I wouldn't mind 10th.
1:12:28
I like that idea.
1:12:29
You know what I'm doing?
1:12:30
I'm pulling out check of the rest of the year.
1:12:31
Let's try this this week.
1:12:32
We might add 10th next week or next whenever the heck.
1:12:35
Oh, we got to add 10th.
1:12:36
We got to add 10th.
1:12:37
We got to add 10th.
1:12:38
We got to add 10th.
1:12:39
We got to add 10th.
1:12:40
We got to add 10th.
1:12:41
We got to add 10th.
1:12:42
We got to add 10th next week or next whenever the heck.
1:12:45
We can just switch it up every race to just like bonus point for whatever this week.
1:12:48
Oh, it's 10th or quality.
1:12:49
How many safety cars are going to be here?
1:12:52
Every race we have something that's worth the bonus point this week who takes first.
1:12:58
Next week who finishes last week after who finishes.
1:13:01
I like it.
1:13:02
Yeah, let's change it.
1:13:03
Or how many safety cars are in the race?
1:13:04
Yeah, I mean, it's a bonus point.
1:13:06
So whatever.
1:13:07
Just last thing on this, the scoreboard thing.
1:13:09
Can we start going from first to last?
1:13:11
I'm not going to win if I if I if I can't just do the wild cards.
1:13:15
I'll give you some crazy ones up there.
1:13:16
How do you give it to me, dude?
1:13:18
I'll give you the crazy ones.
1:13:19
You want to predict first, second and third?
1:13:21
No, I'm saying I will throw in some crazy predictions in there like Lewis for pole.
1:13:25
That's not that crazy, but it's kind of crazy right now.
1:13:27
Right.
1:13:28
Yeah, I'll throw those in there, but I need to go last because I'm dead last.
1:13:31
In terms of like, you want to go first.
1:13:33
I want to go last because I don't want anybody else to be the same pick because I need the points.
1:13:37
So you just want to throw a wild card in no matter what.
1:13:39
So if we all get the points, we'll just start if we go Max Charles Lando, you're going to be like Botas.
1:13:45
Yeah. Yeah. So all right.
1:13:48
Good to know. Good to know.
1:13:50
So. Whoa.
1:13:52
Oh, yeah. Good buddy.
1:13:53
All right. Well, with that, that was that was fast laps of the boys.
1:13:58
Obviously, don't forget to like, comment, subscribe.
1:14:00
Obviously, Kev off camera does all of this for us.
1:14:04
Give him a special like.
1:14:06
And yeah, I guess we are we here next week?
1:14:09
Yeah, three races in a row, baby.
1:14:11
Oh, let's go. Three weeks in a row for fast laps.
1:14:14
You'll see us next week.
