- 0:00Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and welcome to another episode
- 0:05of the United Church of Tonga Youth Devotion.
- 0:08Our Bible reading for today is taken from Matthew chapter 9, verses 27 and 28.
- 0:15It says, As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him,
- 0:22calling out, Have mercy on us, Son of David.
- 0:26When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him and he asked them,
- 0:32Do you believe that I am able to do this?
- 0:36A question for us today. Do you believe that Jesus is able to help you?
- 0:42What do you do when you face difficulties in life? Maybe you've been trying
- 0:48to find work without much luck.
- 0:51Perhaps you're dealing with personal challenges that seem overwhelming.
- 0:55Or you've wanted to share your faith with your friends but feel hesitant?
- 1:00The question to ponder today is, do you believe that Jesus is able to help you with your struggles?
- 1:09Today's passage recounts the story of two blind men who followed Jesus after
- 1:15miraculously healing the sick.
- 1:17They cried out to Jesus, have mercy on us, son of David.
- 1:24But instead of healing them immediately, Jesus continued walking.
- 1:30He entered the house and the two blind men followed him, persisting in their plea.
- 1:37Imagine these two blind men struggling to find their way to the house where Jesus had entered.
- 1:44They may have heard of what Jesus did and believed he was the Messiah who could heal them.
- 1:51I wonder what went through their minds when Jesus didn't respond to their initial plea.
- 1:57What would your response have been if you were in their position?
- 2:01Would you have kept going, following Jesus to the house?
- 2:06Imagine being blind and having to find your own way to the house.
- 2:12You may be shy for being ignored in front of your friends.
- 2:17The community already looked down on you because of your disability,
- 2:21and now the one you thought was your only hope doesn't seem to care.
- 2:27I bet you'll feel angry and doubt that Jesus is the answer for you.
- 2:34Maybe you'd stop there and look elsewhere. But what bold faith these two blind men had.
- 2:43Instead of feeling disheartened, they pressed on.
- 2:47This reflects their understanding of Jesus and their deep belief that he could heal them.
- 2:56As they entered the house, Jesus boldly asked them, Do you believe that I am able to do this?
- 3:03That's a question for you and me today.
- 3:06Do we genuinely believe that Jesus can help, provide for us,
- 3:12and lead us to the work that we've been searching for?
- 3:17Do you trust that Jesus can empower you to share your faith in the gospel with your mates?
- 3:25Jesus is God incarnate, and He can do all things.
- 3:32That's a fact. But the question for us today, do we believe this fact?
- 3:39We can't just say we believe that Jesus can do things for us. We've got to live it out.
- 3:47We must demonstrate our beliefs through our actions, just like the persistence of the two blind men.
- 3:58Let us pray. Lord Jesus, thank you for reminding me today that you are powerful
- 4:06and can help us in our journey.
- 4:11You can heal our mental, physical, and spiritual disorders.
- 4:17We can do all things through you. Empower me not to give up,
- 4:23but to persevere in faith, following you. In your holy name I pray, amen.
