Latest / Worldview Matters With David Fiorazo / David Roth: Green Bay Pastor Leads Charge To Engage
Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Fierazzo.
- 0:20Friends, family in Christ, welcome our fourth show here in our new studios.
- 0:26And now, we have our first in-studio guest on the new set.
- 0:31We're so blessed to have pastor David Roth, one-way Christian church in Green Bay, brother
- 0:36welcome.
- 0:37Thank you so much.
- 0:38And a very impressive studio, I think even for a face that's made for radio, this actually
- 0:44might make me look good.
- 0:46It makes it really, it makes us look good.
- 0:47And the plus, all the buttons they're pushing on the other side of the wall, do you feel
- 0:52the heat from the LEDs?
- 0:54I do.
- 0:55It's very interesting.
- 0:56Anyway, we're blessed to have this new set up here.
- 0:59We prayed briefly that whatever we do here will glorify God and edify the body of Christ.
- 1:04I had a guest that I was just talking to earlier today about the fact that pastors generally,
- 1:11I mean, you can look at George Barronon research and tackling certain issues or not tackling
- 1:17certain issues for whatever reason.
- 1:19And pastors are generally not doing a great job of equipping the congregations.
- 1:25So one of the reasons we wanted to do a show with you was on the local level, what we
- 1:31can work on as Christians, how we can get more pastors engaged.
- 1:35And this is particularly the Green Bay, Appleton area, Northeast Wisconsin.
- 1:40But this, what we're going to be talking about affects the whole country, we're going
- 1:44to talk about different things in the media and the Johnson Amendment and other things.
- 1:48But let's just basically, first of all, the website, your church's website is owccgb.org.
- 1:58That's one way Christian church in Green Bay.
- 2:03Great church.
- 2:04I was blessed to be a part of the men of iron conference a few years ago and it's good.
- 2:11So what led you on your path of, because I know you started later in life, you became
- 2:18pastor, what seven, eight years ago, eight and a half years ago, when you came right
- 2:23out of the gate, were you preaching on all these political issues?
- 2:27I wasn't.
- 2:28I wasn't.
- 2:29But I've definitely learned over the past eight and a half years, quite a bit going through
- 2:34the process of becoming a pastor.
- 2:37And what became clearer and clearer to me is that the church has kind of lost sight
- 2:44of its purpose.
- 2:46And I think of Acts 242 as the purpose statement for the church, right?
- 2:50The early church was devoted to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking a bread, which
- 2:56is contextualized communion and prayer.
- 2:59But that devotion to teaching, I think, is kind of lost in the church in the sense that
- 3:05over time, because the culture seems to be having a greater impact on the church, than
- 3:10the church having an impact on the culture, consumerism has kind of infiltrated the church.
- 3:19And now you've got from the pulpit of this consumerism, like, I want to make you feel
- 3:23good so you come back, and we've lost sight of the church, not the job of the church.
- 3:29But through this process, it just became crystal clear to me that God's design is for
- 3:34his people, the church, to be the moral influence of his creation.
- 3:40And the church needs to start being the church.
- 3:42And to me, that needs to be the local church.
- 3:45I think we can become overwhelmed as Christians, as what's happening in our nation and globally.
- 3:53And we forget that we're the local church.
- 3:57So why not step back into the public square and restore this nation, but do it locally
- 4:07to its Christian roots?
- 4:08Yes.
- 4:09I mean, this nation was founded, clearly, as a Christian nation.
- 4:12And there's so much re-education that needs to take place, not just in the church, which
- 4:17is important enough for pastors to teach the whole council of God.
- 4:21But in our government schools, our true history, I was talking with Paul Blair, who you
- 4:25know.
- 4:26He's gone to a Liberty pastors training camp yourself.
- 4:29They're doing this week, they're in Virginia doing a training camp.
- 4:33On the black robed regimen, on men of God, on pastors in the early days of this country
- 4:38who led, not only preached, probably thundered away from the scriptures, but they also said
- 4:45an example.
- 4:46They were willing to go out and fight also for the religious freedom and the freedoms of
- 4:52having their church and having free speech and all the blessings of America.
- 4:55We've lost that because here's our transition, David.
- 4:59We've been duped into believing that Christians shouldn't be involved in, quote unquote, politics.
- 5:06Yes.
- 5:07And I'm thinking that's one of the most important things we should be involved with, right?
- 5:12Absolutely.
- 5:13Absolutely.
- 5:14I mean, you think about God's creation and part of His creation is the three governing
- 5:18institutions that He created, family government, church government, and civil government.
- 5:24And what's happened over time, I think, in the American church, is that there's been
- 5:28the Johnson Amendment past, Supreme Court cases, just socialism having an impact on the
- 5:34culture as a whole.
- 5:36And what's happened is the church has basically handed over civil government to the secular
- 5:41world and to the Godless.
- 5:44And we've bought into this lie of deceit of, well, there has to be separation of church
- 5:48and state.
- 5:49You guys should not be talking about politics, but Jesus talked about politics.
- 5:54Jesus was involved in politics and scripture clearly throughout scripture, Old Testament
- 6:00New Testament speaks to God's design for civil government.
- 6:05He's the creator.
- 6:06It belongs to Him and His people should be influencing it morally.
- 6:10Yeah.
- 6:11So many reasons why this is important and we've talked about this so much on this podcast.
- 6:16Think about education, how young children are being, you might want to call it groomed.
- 6:22Many of them are being accessed by those who want to take them away from God, away from
- 6:28their parents, away from the biblical worldview, whatever gender you want to be.
- 6:33And you know, I wasn't planning on doing this.
- 6:34I see this article in front of me here.
- 6:36I wasn't planning on mentioning this.
- 6:39But this is, there's a different worldview that is coming against the church, biblical
- 6:44Christianity, our history as a nation and Christians, what we believe is being salt
- 6:49and light inside the Democrat socialist of America convention.
- 6:55The socialist declared dominance over the Democrat party now and set their sights on 2028.
- 7:02So they're motivated.
- 7:04They're organizing.
- 7:05This is the radical left and they want to take over their party basically.
- 7:11And who knows what's going to happen there, but the point is that platform is godless.
- 7:17You might want to call it demonic, some of what they're pushing, socialism, abortion,
- 7:23LGBTQ, environmental extremism and on and on and on.
- 7:26So let's bring it back to the local level, David.
- 7:28That's why I brought you in here.
- 7:30We had a meeting with a men of God, a bunch of men in Green Bay within the last couple
- 7:35weeks.
- 7:36We were talking about some of this that you put together, engaging locally for the glory
- 7:40of God.
- 7:42And part of the focus, you list up some of the problems, the things that's been happening
- 7:48in our nation and some stats that are very sobering, which we've talked about on this
- 7:51podcast.
- 7:52We don't need to get into today, but you get to areas of focus.
- 7:56And that's where I would love for you to speak to a few things before we talk about other
- 7:59things like the Johnson Amendment.
- 8:02Yeah, yeah.
- 8:03So tell me what areas of focus and how local churches need to, and by the way, I'm going
- 8:07to give you Pastor David's email before this is over.
- 8:10And I want you to share his email with your pastor.
- 8:14If you're in Northeast Wisconsin, we would love for you to join the next meeting on how
- 8:18the church can be more influential, biblically and as responsible citizens here in upcoming
- 8:26election efforts.
- 8:27Go ahead, David.
- 8:28We wanted to connect with a couple churches in the local area in Green Bay, come together
- 8:34and discuss these issues about, again, being the local church and start building plank by
- 8:38plank and start focusing on schools, the public schools, focus on city councils, focus on
- 8:46the county board, Brown County, and really get a better understanding of what's happening
- 8:52in there, create an awareness so that the church understands, in the church, the members
- 8:58of the church understand what's happening at the city council level, what's happening
- 9:02at the county level, what's happening in our schools, and organize in such a way that
- 9:07we have people dedicated to schools, for example, and they're identifying the agendas, the
- 9:14actual agendas that are being held in these meetings.
- 9:19And if there's any issues that the church should be aware of, to go and speak out against.
- 9:26There's so much ignorance today.
- 9:27So many people don't know.
- 9:28Tremendous ignorance.
- 9:29The city of Green Bay is a classic example.
- 9:32We talked about how Northeast Wisconsin is considered and perceived to be a conservative
- 9:36part of the state.
- 9:38But when Christians don't vote during spring elections, which is a problem, is you have
- 9:44liberalism controlling the city of Green Bay.
- 9:47I mean, the city council of Green Bay, there's 12 council members, and nine of the 12 are liberal.
- 9:55And so you've got only three conservatives, and what ends up happening is something that
- 9:59we got engaged with as a church body, is we started attending a city council meeting
- 10:04because they wanted to ban conversion therapy, which is to convert homosexuals to heterosexuals.
- 10:13But they've redefined conversion therapy.
- 10:16And that's the issue is there's no doubt conversion therapy of old is terrible, right?
- 10:21Shock treatment, forcing kids to watch pornography, that's horrible, that's horrible.
- 10:28But many of these council members publicly were stating that religious counseling was considered
- 10:34conversion therapy and said it was evil, like biblical counseling, biblical counseling.
- 10:39They considered as evil.
- 10:41And so we went there to the city council meeting and voiced the truth.
- 10:47We shared scripture and the resolution that they wanted to pass on that first evening
- 10:55did not pass as a result of us being there.
- 10:58But they created a motion thereafter that said, okay, we need to go back and write specifically
- 11:04what this resolution is to be all about.
- 11:06In the second meeting, again, we went back and shared the truth.
- 11:10They did pass it, but they've passed it, they amended it to have religious counseling
- 11:17exempt from the ban.
- 11:20And so it's just a good example of how the church, if we just stand up for the truth, we
- 11:25can have an impact, we can have an impact.
- 11:28Ironically that same night they passed a resolution to give nature personhood.
- 11:35So in the city of Green Bay, there's a resolution that has passed that trees, rivers, waterways
- 11:41can be considered people and people can sue on their behalf.
- 11:46So that's what's happening at the city level and the local level and there's not an awareness
- 11:50of what's happening.
- 11:52So we have got to be more aware, be more organized, more committed because the other side and
- 12:01the enemy is definitely.
- 12:03They're active and they're organized and they have funding too.
- 12:06So we've got to try to rally the remnant and do a better job for them and that's why
- 12:09we're having these important conversations.
- 12:11And I would say the city of Green Bay is probably similar to a lot of cities around the
- 12:19country where there's more liberals or leftists or Democrats on a board or on the council
- 12:25than there are Republicans.
- 12:26That's probably more common than we would like to admit because for whatever reason,
- 12:32Christians were as long as we have our freedoms, we don't need to get involved or we've been
- 12:37told that politics is a secular issue that we shouldn't and that's just such a lie.
- 12:44It's a lie of the enemy.
- 12:46And I'll say the reason it's right now such a big lie is because in politics today,
- 12:55the church is not moving towards politics.
- 12:57politics is moving towards theological, spiritual and moral issues.
- 13:02And you name it, right?
- 13:04They've redefined abortion as women's reproductive healthcare, they're redefining gender, marriage.
- 13:13These are theological, moral issues, spiritual issues so the church must be involved.
- 13:21We're going to take a brief pause in a minute but I don't want to wait until the end if
- 13:25you feel comfortable giving your email address.
- 13:28So friends, write this down.
- 13:29You can, first of all, the website, you can contact Pastor David there through the website
- 13:33owccgb.org which is one way Christian church that's in Green Bay, Wisconsin, that's where
- 13:41we are here.
- 13:42Well, we're filming in Appleton at Freedom Project but we live up there and you're the
- 13:47pastor there.
- 13:48So give for those that might want to get more information on what you or we are doing
- 13:54locally.
- 13:55And to maybe pass your email along to their pastors, oh Lord, I pray that more leaders
- 14:03in Northeast Wisconsin would get involved with this and try to see what we can do to
- 14:09write the ship so to speak.
- 14:10Go ahead and give your email address.
- 14:12Yeah, it's pastor dr at owccgb.org.
- 14:17Pastor dr at owccgb.org.
- 14:23You're not a doctor but it's David Ross.
- 14:25Yes, there you go.
- 14:26Pastor dr.
- 14:27Pastor dr.
- 14:28Alright, friends, we can take a brief pause.
- 14:29We'll break back on World View Matters.
- 14:31Introducing Patriot Mobile, the wireless carrier that stands with you.
- 14:36We are committed to supporting the values that make our nation great.
- 14:41With affordable plans and reliable nationwide coverage, Patriot Mobile is not just a wireless
- 14:47service.
- 14:48It's a call to action for those who believe in the American dream.
- 14:55Get free activation now with promo code, David.
- 15:05So there's a new article that came out leftist group seeks to save Johnson amendment that
- 15:12silences church political speech.
- 15:17So this is Americans united for the separation of church and state, which is the second
- 15:22biggest lion America, the separation of church and state.
- 15:25They're asking this federal court in Tyler, Texas to allow to intervene against a proposed
- 15:30consent decree that would free churches from a longstanding regulation that bars tax
- 15:37exempt religious groups from publicly opposing and supporting political candidates.
- 15:43Well, we just talked with Pastor Paul Blair about, I mean, he was in the news about the
- 15:47IRS saying, oh, you can endorse political candidates from the pulpit and Paul goes, nothing
- 15:53has changed.
- 15:54We've been doing it.
- 15:55We've been trying to get other pastors to talk about, quote, moral issues, but they call
- 15:59them political issues.
- 16:01But before we get into more of this, because the left is going to continue to hit hard
- 16:05to try to use it, things like this is a battering ram to the church.
- 16:09So in 2015, 10 years ago, I wrote a book called The Cost of Our Silence.
- 16:14And in that book, and one of the, what, what chapter is that in the chapter called separation
- 16:19of Christianity and state, there's a section called the Johnson amendment.
- 16:25And you can look it up online.
- 16:26I did a blog on that as well, the Johnson amendment and the agenda to silence Christians.
- 16:32There it is, the Johnson amendment and the agenda to silence Christians.
- 16:36Let me tell you a quick story and then I'll let Pastor David respond.
- 16:40In 2015, I did an interview with Jan Markel on understanding the Times radio.
- 16:46And a few other rather high profile for me anyway, interviews about the book, The Cost
- 16:52of Our Silence.
- 16:53And we talked about a lot.
- 16:54The Johnson amendment.
- 16:55Well, then I put this blog out and right around that time, President Trump was campaigning
- 17:01or this was candidate Trump was campaigning for the Republican ticket.
- 17:07And he said, one of the things I'm going to do is repeal the Johnson amendment.
- 17:11Well, most people had no idea what it was.
- 17:15So they started googling it.
- 17:17And since I had done these radio interviews and I've gotten out there on the web and I
- 17:22did my article and it was shared by a lot of people who wanted information on that.
- 17:26Before President Trump mentioned that, people started googling the Johnson amendment.
- 17:31And when President Trump, at that time candidate, Trump mentioned it.
- 17:35And my article was in the top three on Google searches, search results when people would
- 17:41just type in the Johnson amendment.
- 17:43And so people were directed to a Christian perspective, which I thought was hilarious.
- 17:48So thank Donald Trump and thank Jan Markel.
- 17:51But back to the problem with it, as we know, pastors did not have to self censor.
- 18:00But that's what too many of them did.
- 18:02The Johnson amendment came out in 1954.
- 18:05Lyndon B. Johnson, a liberal senator from Texas, wanted to, he was running for re-election,
- 18:10but some Christian groups and anti-communist groups, non-profits were coming against him,
- 18:14putting out information against him.
- 18:17He checked with the IRS, what they were doing was legal.
- 18:21So he said, you know, he must have thought, well, how can I shut them up?
- 18:23How can I?
- 18:24Right.
- 18:25Something in an amendment of the IRS that made me affect their 501C3 and threaten the
- 18:30pastors with that, if they talk about politics, I'll let you share whatever you want about
- 18:34that.
- 18:35Because I could keep going on this issue.
- 18:37So the keyword that you said is threatened, because that's all it was with a threat.
- 18:43Lyndon B. Johnson, and I think even the American United people for separate.
- 18:48United for separation.
- 18:49Yeah.
- 18:50Yeah, they're fully aware that this is an infringement of the First Amendment of the Constitution.
- 18:54So this is a threat.
- 18:56And unfortunately, it has worked.
- 18:58It has been effective.
- 19:00But a funny story for, on this particular issue, this last election, where the Congressman
- 19:06Tony Weed, whose district is in Wisconsin, in Wisconsin, in the Green Bay area, we were
- 19:13holding an event with him, with Turning Point Action, at our church.
- 19:19On church grounds?
- 19:20Yes, for him to share his story, his testimony, but also his positions.
- 19:27We prayed over Tony Weed, but two days before that event, I got a call from a national correspondent
- 19:33from NBC News.
- 19:34Oh, that's right.
- 19:35I remember that.
- 19:36Telling me, do you realize you're going to lose your 501C3 status if you follow through
- 19:42with this?
- 19:43Oh, my.
- 19:44The irony is, we as a church, when we established eight and a half years ago, we did not file
- 19:50for a 501C3 because churches don't have to.
- 19:53And that's another lie.
- 19:54That's funny.
- 19:55That's another lie.
- 19:56So I corrected him, said, well, there's no threat of us losing our 501C3 because we don't
- 20:01have one.
- 20:03But thank you for the call.
- 20:05But is it an interesting, David, that this is NBC, this is national news, battering or
- 20:12trying to threaten or intimidate a Green Bay church, not to have a political candidate.
- 20:20Come in and not to talk about these issues.
- 20:24First of all, they must believe the lie.
- 20:26They probably believe that maybe.
- 20:28I really think a lot of people erroneously believe that, you know, if churches could
- 20:32otherwise more pastors, I would hope, would talk about these things.
- 20:36And by the way, there's a thing called Pulpit Freedom Sunday.
- 20:39I think it happens every year.
- 20:41Paul Blair was one pastor that kicked that off, helped kick that off with the Family
- 20:45Research Council every year.
- 20:50They talk about politics.
- 20:51They talk about candidates and they say, you need to vote for so and so.
- 20:54And then they send the copies of those sermons to the IRS, not one from my understanding.
- 21:00To this day, not one church has lost its 501C3 status.
- 21:06Friends, tell your pastor.
- 21:08He can talk about anything biblical and moral from the pulpit, even though society and
- 21:15the left has tried to convince us it's political, like pre-born mother or pre-born lives in
- 21:22mother's wombs.
- 21:24It's that's not a political issue, friends.
- 21:26That's murder.
- 21:27That's taking a life of a child.
- 21:30So this leftist group, no surprise, they're seeking to, you know, push this.
- 21:35So we need to move on, though, David.
- 21:37The article we did, we talked about with Paul Blair, was the pastors and politicians
- 21:43don't lose first amendment rights in the pulpit.
- 21:47Now this is over at the Daily Citizen.
- 21:49So I just want to quote, responding to the IRS decision, this is Kelly Shackleford.
- 21:54He's the president and CEO of Chief Counsel for First Liberty.
- 21:58He's, and I'll let you respond to this.
- 22:00He said, first amendment rights don't end when a pastor, church member, or even a political
- 22:07candidate steps on the platform of a church.
- 22:10The IRS weaponized the Johnson Amendment and the left.
- 22:15They weaponized the Johnson Amendment to silence churches and pastors for decades.
- 22:19This recent development is great news for religious organizations, churches, and religious
- 22:24liberty.
- 22:26It is great news, but what do you think in your speculative view, will enough pastors
- 22:34engage now that they know, oh, I can do this?
- 22:37Yeah.
- 22:38Well, I can only hope and pray that that's the case.
- 22:42I do see, it's a small movement, but I do see a movement of pastors stepping up and
- 22:49stepping and standing for the truth.
- 22:52Ohio, I just read an article of there's a 80 pastors in the state of Ohio that sent
- 22:58a letter to Kroger's food, headquartered in Cincinnati saying, hey, you need to take
- 23:04a better position on your LGBTQ because they're really promoting that.
- 23:10And in essence, telling them that they're going to be telling the churches, don't shop
- 23:15at Kroger's, you probably wouldn't see that 10 years ago, right?
- 23:19That's true.
- 23:21I'm hoping that more pastors will step forward because again, these issues, as you said,
- 23:28and we've talked about, these are not political issues.
- 23:30These are moral, spiritual, theological issues.
- 23:34And if we're not going to be talking about that from the pulpit, who is going to be?
- 23:38Who is going to train and equip believers to how to respond and what is the truth?
- 23:45And at the end of the day, this has to be all Christ centered and we need to reach the
- 23:49lost and the lost are in the public square and they're attached to politics.
- 23:56They need to hear the gospel, but we definitely do need to get the church engaged.
- 24:00So briefly, I want to just go out to California, briefly and talk about what's happening there.
- 24:04And Jack Hibbs actually warned, we had a video clip, but we don't have enough time to
- 24:08play it now where he actually was warning his congregation in it, whoever would listen,
- 24:13put it on social media, saying if California passes this bill, AB 495, Christians may need
- 24:20to prepare and think about leaving the state.
- 24:23Why would he say that?
- 24:24In Green Bay, in Wisconsin, we're kind of split here politically.
- 24:29Paul Blair doesn't have that problem in Oklahoma, very conservative, Christian-based, California.
- 24:35There's no hope, really, they're gone.
- 24:38Progressive.
- 24:40If they pass these bills, your chances of overturning that is very slim.
- 24:46So these dangerous policies have been enacted.
- 24:48And just your thoughts on Jack Hibbs coming out, and by the way, the bill would permit almost
- 24:53any adult to take custody of a child without parent's being notified based on the
- 24:59care giver phrase, it's just really sad, but it's really dangerous.

- 25:07No ID required, simply fill out a form, sign an affidavit that you can pick up the child.
- 25:14You can also tell the school, you can vaccinate this child.

- 25:26There's no doubt that the consequence of, because if they're trying to protect illegal
- 25:31immigrants with this, so that they don't have to show an ID and pick up the child or have
- 25:35somebody else pick up their child, but the consequence of this, I mean, just think about
- 25:39a pedophile who will take advantage of this and say, well, I know Susie, and I'm here
- 25:46to pick her up, and I just need to fill out this affidavit, right?

- 26:09in that meeting locally was to keep everything Christ centered, and that means our discussions
- 26:14with other people, because people are so divided on political issues and on moral issues
- 26:19really, but we still need to truth in love, right?
- 26:23I'm sure you've done sermons on this.
- 26:25We need to keep folks on sharing the gospel.
- 26:27That's important out in culture, setting aside territorial mentalities within the church
- 26:33community, pastor saying, well, I don't want to go over there, because anyway, we've got
- 26:38to stop that.
- 26:39We've got to unite and for the glory of God here in the preservation of our country,
- 26:45and then focus locally showing up to elections and other things.
- 26:48Give your email address one more time.
