- 0:00Bold statement alert. D.
- 0:05Ein be. Definitely should be baked into
- 0:09every HR initiative. Every Workforce in it
- 0:13initiative. Every people initiative, Ira
- 0:15leadership Initiative for the humanistic reasons for the
- 0:20social justice. Social justice reasons for the
- 0:23emotional reasons, for just the good human being reason.
- 0:29But what I would actually say What's even more powerful than
- 0:33that. Is the objective business
- 0:36reason. Now, we've all heard this story.
- 0:39Let me give you a different version of I believe D EI and be
- 0:46needs a corporation needs, a person needs a voice to Rebrand
- 0:55that energy. The initiative that Focus I
- 1:01believe the highest levels of Executives and some of the
- 1:05biggest companies in the world, Down to the CEOs of your small
- 1:10businesses in the pockets of America.
- 1:14Do not understand the most important variables of D EI, and
- 1:19B. So that means we have a branding
- 1:22issue. I learned this years ago from
- 1:24Gary vaynerchuk, who was always, I've always said this who is an
- 1:27underrated executive on the people side of his leadership
- 1:31capability. He often talks about branding.
- 1:37he often talks about Communications, he all, he often
- 1:41talks about narrative perspective, Insight Clarity
- 1:46understanding and how to simplify things.
- 1:49And I genuinely believe that the Ein be potentially has been over
- 1:54simplified. at the core executive level, your cfo's,
- 2:01your, cos your CEOs, your partner's, your boards, your
- 2:06investors for them to understand being able to comprehend The
- 2:13gender. Race.
- 2:17A bit of compensation. Recruiting.
- 2:24Identity. And I don't want to discredit
- 2:28it. So I was going to say the most
- 2:30simple and basic things, but I won't discredit the most
- 2:32important things, the most impactful things, but things
- 2:39that I think are fastened in. They are part of who we are
- 2:45within an organization today. I just didn't believe that and I
- 2:48think the date is starting to catch up.
- 2:51Ten years ago, five years ago, shit, three and a half years
- 2:54ago. I think companies were in the
- 2:5650s and 60s and 40s and 30% as it pertains to all of those
- 2:59categories. And percentage, the percentage
- 3:02of gaming is let's say, 100 percent is doing a perfect and
- 3:05let's say zero percentage doing get the worst.
- 3:07I've seen companies at 30, 40 50 percent.
- 3:09And now I think companies as it pertains to recruiting as
- 3:14pertains to compensation and equitable Equitable salaries.
- 3:22Representation of then companies and starting to finally realize
- 3:26that it's not a, it's not a, it's not a maybe it's not a
- 3:34something we wish. It's starting to be truly
- 3:38operationalized inside of organizations to a certain
- 3:41degree. Let's give it a 70%.
- 3:46So, here's what I'll say. We have to start and I repeat
- 3:52myself. The biggest corporations in the
- 3:54world, the biggest dni leaders, the world, the biggest, you
- 3:58know, we need Gary would appreciate this from a branding
- 4:01perspective. We need someone, that's not even
- 4:03in h.r. Someone that doesn't even have a
- 4:07natural. Quote-unquote, emotional
- 4:10leadership capability that the world knows them for and we need
- 4:15that individual to get behind D EI.
- 4:18And be efforts. Get behind the small Nuance
- 4:23elements of it all the way up to the most recognizable elements
- 4:26of d&i and B, we need that to happen.
- 4:31If that happens, I think something interesting can
- 4:33happen. I really, really do.
- 4:38I really believe that. I really believe that if the the
- 4:42largest CFO in the world or the largest sealed, the world that
- 4:46has a pure business, a pure cash flow of pure ibadah, a pure, you
- 4:53know, financing numbers and data driven mindset if they are to
- 4:58come out publicly and make a very clear announcement movement
- 5:05and actual legitimate effort. In this category they're like
- 5:09vocal about it. I genuinely believe I thoroughly
- 5:15in my heart, believe that the amount of companies that will
- 5:23adopt create space, and cash flow for DUI and B, I believe
- 5:29it'll change. So let's start talking about The
- 5:34Branding because that's all we're doing this podcast.
- 5:37The millions of other HR leadership podcast, the firm's
- 5:41the Keynotes, the events, the Fireside Chats the policies, the
- 5:46blogs, it's all branding, it's all getting human beings behind
- 5:50a certain perspective. But whoever leaves that
- 5:56perspect, whoever, whoever is at the top of the, of the chain,
- 6:00like, who do you think about it? That's a great question for
- 6:03everyone listening. And I wanted, I won't even give
- 6:05my perspective, but who do you think about when you think when
- 6:07you hear HR? Who do you think about when you
- 6:09hear Learning and Development, who do you think about when you
- 6:11hear D, EI and be what? And who do you think about?
- 6:17When you hear internal comms, what do you think about that
- 6:20bass? I was a little plug.
- 6:22I'm just joking not joking, though.
- 6:26Next, next Thursday 11:11 again. Speaking stabbings voices, 2023.
- 6:33Love you. Anyway, focus, focus a jack.
- 6:37Who do you, who do you? Who do you?
- 6:38Who do you think of me? You hear all those terms in a
- 6:40charm? People who do you think of?
- 6:41Who do you think of when I say marketing?
- 6:43Who do you think I want? Who do you think of when I say
- 6:45branding? Who do you think of when I say
- 6:48fashion? Who do you think of And whoever
- 6:51you think of when you hear D EI and be, I guarantee that
- 6:56individual may be at a macro level respected, but at a
- 7:00day-to-day level, I don't believe those individuals are
- 7:03fully. Respected by those that I think
- 7:07are genuinely influencing organizations today.
- 7:13Who does your everyday CEO of a 500-person company?
- 7:171000 person company. A 5,000 person company, who do
- 7:20they look up to from a business perspective?
- 7:24Who do they believe it? How what it was is, what is the
- 7:30guiding force of their overall perspective in that and
- 7:33identity? And if we those that are in the
- 7:39D EI and be Lane World conversation.
- 7:43If we can start pushing and rebranding something a bit
- 7:46different, Small tweaks. I learned from a great partner,
- 7:54Rob. He tells me to this day and he's
- 7:58always told me anything. It's about how you package it.
- 8:01Packaging is important. Packaging is real.
- 8:07So, let's think about that. Let's think about that, as we're
- 8:13trying to push our D EI and be efforts forward inside of an
- 8:18organization. External of an organization as a
- 8:21writer as a speaker. As someone that wants to see the
- 8:24world do good. Let's think about how we package
- 8:26this work. And I guarantee we'll get more
- 8:30done. As always just a few thoughts,
- 8:35just a few perspectives. We'll talk soon.
- 8:31As always just a few thoughts, just a few perspectives.
- 8:37We'll talk soon.
