Transcript
- 0:10Welcome to The Voice, where breaking, believing, and becoming finally have somewhere to be heard.
- 0:16I'm Kim Munoz, and I'm thrilled that you're here.
- 0:21So I wrote something on my blog this month, but I feel like I need to say some
- 0:25of it out loud, because I think people see this glow-up in me,
- 0:29and they don't really understand what it took to get here.
- 0:33My glow-up wasn't accidental. It wasn't just time passing and things magically getting better.
- 0:40It was a lot of work, both internal and external.
- 0:44Yes, there was healing, and there was growth.
- 0:49And I also know there was something, someone guiding me through it all,
- 0:53even in the moments I didn't fully recognize it.
- 0:57For those of us who are faithful, there's a moment, and if I'm being honest,
- 1:02there's lots of moments where you lean into your faith, and it begins to lean
- 1:07right back into you, holding you up and keeping you steady.
- 1:11The Holy Spirit has a funny way of moving you even when you don't realize you're being moved.
- 1:17And I'm talking about moving you in ways that require you to be present,
- 1:21to look forward, and to trust the place that you find yourself in.
- 1:26But also there was intention, like very real and most times uncomfortable decisions that I had to make.
- 1:35And I think that part gets skipped over because it's not as pretty.
- 1:38No one really wants to talk about those messy, in-the-trenches moments.
- 1:43It's easier to celebrate the result than to talk about what it actually requires.
- 1:48Because a real glow-up, it's not just what you add to your life.
- 1:52More importantly, it's what you stop allowing, and learning to recognize the
- 1:57difference between the two.
- 1:59And for me, that meant finally listening to that quiet voice in me that kept
- 2:04saying, this isn't who you are.
- 2:07This isn't who you're meant to be. There's more for you.
- 2:10And even when you feel paralyzed by the challenges that that may bring,
- 2:15you still have to keep moving forward.
- 2:18I decided, and honestly, when you want to see things change in your life,
- 2:21you have to make choices.
- 2:23So I decided I wasn't going to stay in a version of myself that someone else broke.
- 2:29And I don't think I would have had the strength to make those decisions on my
- 2:32own if it weren't for my faith.
- 2:34Because staying, staying was familiar. Staying was easier.
- 2:40Staying was what I thought I had to do. But rebuilding yourself,
- 2:44that's intentional. It's uncomfortable.
- 2:47And it costs something, and sometimes that cost is everything you've ever known
- 2:52for something you can't fully see yet.
- 2:55That in-between space, that's where faith sits.
- 2:59And here's something that actually happened to me recently. I was listening
- 3:03to someone from my past on a podcast, and they're talking about their life,
- 3:08their journey, and I'm sitting there realizing, hmm, I lived that.
- 3:12I helped to build parts of that. I was there for those seasons.
- 3:17And to be clear, they didn't speak badly about me. They even gave me a little credit at one point.
- 3:22But honestly, they were always really good at doing just enough to make you
- 3:26question whether it was you or them that was the problem.
- 3:29But when it ended, I didn't feel proud. I felt small.
- 3:34Like I got pulled right back into that version of myself that lived in that dynamic for a long time.
- 3:39The one who second-guessed herself, the one
- 3:42who learned how to shrink just enough to keep the peace but never fully take
- 3:46up space and for a second i was that girl again and i had this moment where
- 3:51i thought wait a minute what just happened i thought i did the work i thought
- 3:56i had moved on and then it hit me that is the glow up.
- 4:02And what's wild is, I had just had a conversation with someone I love very deeply
- 4:07about the very same thing, someone who's standing at that same edge right now.
- 4:14And I remember saying to them, you can't keep looking back at something God
- 4:19already pulled you out of.
- 4:21And I didn't turn it into a whole thing, but in my head I kept thinking about
- 4:24Lot's wife in the Bible, how she looked back and turned into a pillar of salt.
- 4:31And what that lesson was really teaching us, it wasn't about punishment,
- 4:36it was about this, what happens to us when we stay emotionally stuck in something
- 4:41we were meant to walk away from,
- 4:43and how easy it is to do that, not physically, but emotionally,
- 4:48mentally, and spiritually.
- 4:50Because before, that feeling of being small, that was my normal.
- 4:55Now, it's unfamiliar, It's noticeable, and it's temporary.
- 5:00I don't live there anymore. I visit, and then I leave.
- 5:05And honestly, that awareness, that's something I've prayed for.
- 5:09Because the glow up isn't about erasing who you are or who you were.
- 5:14It's about no longer confusing her with who you are now.
- 5:17And the truth is, losing and finding yourself can happen in so many different ways.
- 5:23Sometimes it's a breakup. Sometimes it's a divorce. Sometimes it's loss,
- 5:27the kind you never asked for.
- 5:29And sometimes it's after years of being everything for everyone else,
- 5:33being a partner, being a mom, being what was needed, and then one day,
- 5:38you're finally face to face with yourself again, and you realize you get to
- 5:43rediscover who you are at any point in your life, not just in the beginning,
- 5:48not just when it's convenient, but right now.
- 5:52And I think there's another layer to this that we don't always say out loud.
- 5:56My glow-up wasn't just emotional, there was a physical side to it, too.
- 6:00And I made the decision to freshen up my physical appearance,
- 6:04with the help of some incredible people and friends.
- 6:07You can read more about them in my blog this month, but I truly cannot recommend
- 6:12them enough, and I'm so grateful for what they helped me step into.
- 6:16Not to become someone new, but to finally match how I was starting to feel on the inside.
- 6:21Confident, beautiful again, not small.
- 6:25But let me be honest about that, too. That decision came with a cost,
- 6:29financially, of course, but more than that, mentally.
- 6:32Because there's a moment after when you're sitting with yourself recovering
- 6:35and you start asking, what did I just do?
- 6:38And who did I really do this for? And there's a little guilt in that.
- 6:42Because unless something's medically necessary, it does feel self-serving.
- 6:47And for someone like me, who spent most of her life living for other people,
- 6:51that's an internal shift and it's uncomfortable.
- 6:55And I had to bring that to God and really check my heart in it.
- 6:58Was this insecurity or alignment?
- 7:01What I came to was this. For the first time, I wasn't doing something to be
- 7:06chosen. I was doing something because I already was.
- 7:10And I truly believe when your heart is aligned and your intention is right,
- 7:15God isn't focused on the surface. He's looking at what's behind it all.
- 7:19And now, I think about this version of a woman, my version, the one who finally
- 7:24walks away from a life where she wasn't treated the way she deserved.
- 7:28And suddenly, she's different. Not perfect, just different.
- 7:32She's lighter. She's freer. She's not asking for permission anymore.
- 7:37Maybe it's gold bangles. Maybe it's lululemon in a messy bun.
- 7:41But either way, she's finally in her life, not watching it.
- 7:46So no, this glow-up wasn't accidental. It was intentional. It was layered. It was rebuilding.
- 7:53And I know I didn't do it alone. He's always been there, guiding me,
- 7:58strengthening me, helping me become who I was always meant to be.
- 8:02If you're in a season of breaking, please hold on. Believing is coming,
- 8:07and becoming, it's already happening.
- 8:10And next week, we're going to lighten it up a little, because after all this growth.
- 8:15We need to talk about what happens when you reenter this world and think,
- 8:19what is actually happening out here?
- 8:21I'll see you next time, and until then, take care of yourself,
- 8:25grab an espresso martini if you like, and keep becoming.
