Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: It might have been a few doors and windows needed replacing.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Good morning, Hayden. Morning, Les.
- 0:29Speaker 3: It's good to have you here.
- 0:31Speaker 2: It is.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Thank you so much for making the effort too. It's
- 0:34Speaker 4: probably the last thing you wanted to do was go
- 0:38Speaker 4: back over this. In the driving rain. Actually, let's cheer
- 0:42Speaker 4: him up because it's like someone ran over his dog
- 0:45Speaker 4: at the moment and I can relate to that. Play
- 0:48Speaker 4: that audio again of those two goals, great man, because
- 0:51Speaker 4: that'll give him a lift. Two of the great grand
- 0:53Speaker 4: final goals.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Two of the great.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Streaming through on the right. Choo, and it's good. It's
- 1:01Speaker 2: unbelievably good. Hayden Young.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Hayden Young has done it again. That one from the boundary,
- 1:09Speaker 4: that was right in the Dom Sheed spot, you know?
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah, a few people have said that to me. Lucky
- 1:15Speaker 1: I didn't go with a drop punt, but.
- 1:16Speaker 4: It just went through. The shot from behind was magnificent.
- 1:19Speaker 4: It was fantastic. Do you realise how special those goals were?
- 1:23Speaker 4: Probably at the moment you don't, and the one in
- 1:25Speaker 4: the prelim... That's folklore stuff.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Not really, to be honest. Because, yeah, all we're sort
- 1:33Speaker 1: of worried about was winning the game. And unfortunately, we
- 1:35Speaker 1: didn't do that. But I think maybe I'll look back
- 1:37Speaker 1: and be.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Pretty chuffed with it.
- 1:39Speaker 1: But, yeah, they're still great highlights of my career. And, yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'm proud of my performances. But it wasn't good enough
- 1:48Speaker 1: on the day to get the job done. But, yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 1: it's a bit of a weird feeling.
- 1:52Speaker 4: I'm prepared to go on record and say that if
- 1:54Speaker 4: the Dockers win... This bloke gets the Norm Smith medal,
- 1:58Speaker 4: which in footy terms is bigger than the Brownlow. Like
- 2:01Speaker 4: from a footballer's perspective, you'll get judged on playing in
- 2:04Speaker 4: the best, good in the, in the best games, the
- 2:07Speaker 4: biggest games. And that's what he did. And I mean,
- 2:10Speaker 4: I probably don't want to talk about it to you,
- 2:11Speaker 4: but I reckon you would have won the Norm Smith medal.
- 2:13Speaker 2: I'll just leave it there.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Hey, so you went to the huddle at three quarter time,
- 2:17Speaker 4: 10 points up, thanks to your goal. And you saw
- 2:19Speaker 4: Alex Pierce was down. What were you thinking in the huddle?
- 2:24Speaker 1: Uh, I mean, we were all pretty, pretty engaged and, um, yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I mean, we obviously knew Moose had gone down. Um,
- 2:30Speaker 1: so yeah, we knew it was going to be, I mean,
- 2:33Speaker 1: a little bit harder not having that extra rotation and
- 2:35Speaker 1: obviously one of our best players and a leader out there. But, um,
- 2:39Speaker 1: I mean, we're all pretty pumped up going into that
- 2:41Speaker 1: last quarter and, um, yeah, there was a few boats
- 2:43Speaker 1: that were sort of getting around Moose and, um, yeah,
- 2:47Speaker 1: we certainly wanted to get it done for him. Um,
- 2:49Speaker 1: so in a way it was like, we got a
- 2:51Speaker 1: little bit of energy from that, but, um, Yeah, it
- 2:54Speaker 1: was devastating, really. Yeah, him going down and not being
- 2:58Speaker 1: out there for that last quarter, but the good result
- 3:00Speaker 1: is it sort of turned out.
- 3:01Speaker 2: It's not too bad. Yeah, the prognosis is a little
- 3:04Speaker 2: better than everyone had predicted. Which is a good result. Yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 2: He's a great man.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Mate, he's such a leader. Oh, well, we better mention
- 3:11Speaker 4: Wolfie time, I suppose. Inside the huddle, or inside on
- 3:16Speaker 4: the ground, on the field... what was your reaction when
- 3:19Speaker 4: you heard Wolfie time? I mean, cause Vossi just kicked
- 3:21Speaker 4: that amazing goal. You've gone 17 points up. Did it
- 3:24Speaker 4: make you feel a little bit, not complacent, but did,
- 3:28Speaker 4: did it take the edge off you or did it
- 3:30Speaker 4: add something to them?
- 3:30Speaker 2: What was, what was your spin on it? No, I
- 3:33Speaker 2: thought it was amazing.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Um, it was one of the great experiences of my life,
- 3:36Speaker 1: to be honest, was playing a grand final and just
- 3:38Speaker 1: hearing that roar from the crowd. Um, I mean, it's
- 3:41Speaker 1: when we've heard it this time, like during the year
- 3:43Speaker 1: from our fans, it's just amazing. And, um, I think
- 3:46Speaker 1: it didn't really have anything to do with what happened afterwards.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I think regardless of warfare time, Brisbane had to play
- 3:52Speaker 1: to win. Um, and we're in a way still had
- 3:55Speaker 1: to play to win because it was four minutes to
- 3:57Speaker 1: go and we weren't able to do that. Um, and
- 3:59Speaker 1: Brisbane just did a far better job at, at playing
- 4:01Speaker 1: to win and, um, going into that sort of win
- 4:04Speaker 1: at all costs mode. Um, but yeah, I still thought
- 4:06Speaker 1: it was one of the great experiences of my life
- 4:09Speaker 1: hearing that roar. And, um, yeah, obviously it didn't go
- 4:13Speaker 1: away from that point on, but, um, Yeah, no, I
- 4:16Speaker 1: loved it.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I know our fans loved it.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Speaking of Bossy, everyone loved him in those awful moments
- 4:22Speaker 3: after the game when everyone just sort of sits down
- 4:24Speaker 3: on the ground and he was walking around pulling you
- 4:26Speaker 3: all up, giving everyone a hug.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Do you want to tell him to piss off?
- 4:30Speaker 2: No.
- 4:31Speaker 4: I know, that's him, isn't it? Did you see Hayden's face?
- 4:34Speaker 4: I did, I know. Not happy, not happy.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Maybe not right now.
- 4:38Speaker 2: No, well, yeah, they're the people you need in those moments. Yeah. Because, yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 2: it was a bit of disbelief and shock and.
- 4:44Speaker 1: heartbreak and um yeah i mean jr brought us in
- 4:48Speaker 1: pretty quickly and taught us you know sometimes it's it's
- 4:51Speaker 1: a cruel game football but we've got to stick together
- 4:53Speaker 1: and it is um we've got to get around each
- 4:55Speaker 1: other and um and we've done that since the game
- 4:58Speaker 1: like i've uh the last few days i've just tried
- 4:59Speaker 1: to spend with my teammates as much as possible and
- 5:02Speaker 1: support each other and um yeah lift each other.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Up you're a very close team that that's what got
- 5:08Speaker 3: you there this year was the way such a close
- 5:10Speaker 3: team that you've been and the way you play together.
- 5:12Speaker 2: No, 100%.
- 5:12Speaker 1: No, we've forged a great connection and bond over the year.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And I mean, JL said to us before the game,
- 5:19Speaker 1: he said, you boys belong on this stage. And, you know,
- 5:23Speaker 1: maybe going into the game, we were like a bit
- 5:24Speaker 1: unsure about that, but certainly post-game, we know that we
- 5:28Speaker 1: belong on the big stage.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah. And yeah, we'll do what we can to get
- 5:32Speaker 2: back there.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Will there be a forensic look at the last four minutes?
- 5:35Speaker 4: Is that how it happens? Is that how you do it?
- 5:36Speaker 1: It's a good question. I'm sure we definitely will, but
- 5:39Speaker 1: I don't know how forensic it will be. We've got
- 5:41Speaker 1: our post our reviews and exits sort of today and tomorrow.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So I'm sure Jay will touch on it tomorrow in
- 5:48Speaker 1: our team meeting. But yeah, the hard thing is for 95%
- 5:53Speaker 1: of the game, we actually.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Did so much right.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So there's a lot of positives to take out of it.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But the only thing we really want to take out
- 6:00Speaker 1: of it is a win, which is hard.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Before you go, well-earned break now. What's the plan for
- 6:06Speaker 3: your break?
- 6:06Speaker 2: You're going on a Yeah, I'll have a bit of
- 6:08Speaker 2: time off. I'm going to get my tonsils out next week.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Oh, that's right. Yes, because you had tonsillitis a couple
- 6:14Speaker 3: of times this year.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so get my health sorted. Keep myself healthy next year.
- 6:18Speaker 1: And then I'm going to jet off to Japan with
- 6:21Speaker 1: a few of my mates.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Nice.
- 6:22Speaker 2: And that'll be good. Get out of Australia for a
- 6:25Speaker 2: little bit.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Bring on the ice cream for breakfast next week.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Is that what they say? No, it's toast now. They
- 6:30Speaker 4: use toast.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Toast?
- 6:31Speaker 4: To bring all the stuff down, yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 2: That sounds so strange. Probably have ice cream.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Yeah, probably ice cream.
- 6:36Speaker 4: What about some positive stuff, like the parade? What was
- 6:39Speaker 4: that like, your first parade? It used to be, as
- 6:41Speaker 4: a kid, you were on the sidelines watching Collingwood go around,
- 6:44Speaker 4: then suddenly you were in it.
- 6:45Speaker 2: What was it like? It was unbelievable.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah, the turnout was shocking, really. How many purple... Fans
- 6:52Speaker 1: were there and, yeah, it just surprised me. Around every corner,
- 6:56Speaker 1: it was just like more and more Freo fans.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Could you hear the boos for Lockie Neal? No. I couldn't.
- 7:01Speaker 3: I can believe how many Freo.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Supporters had managed to get over there. What about a
- 7:05Speaker 4: training too? You had that captain's run and the whole
- 7:07Speaker 4: bottom level was full. It must have been 30,000.
- 7:10Speaker 3: It was 30,000.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 3: You said on the news.
- 7:12Speaker 4: What was that like?
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. I wasn't sure. It was incredible. It
- 7:17Speaker 2: was incredible. It was, yeah, that captain's run, the whole
- 7:20Speaker 2: day was, It was amazing.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I remember saying to Switter on the thing, I was like,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I need to stop smiling because my jaw is getting sore.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But it was so hard. It was so infectious. Everyone
- 7:30Speaker 1: was so happy and the well wishes. Even some of
- 7:33Speaker 1: the Brisbane fans were actually really nice, which was a
- 7:36Speaker 1: good experience. So it was just a happy day for
- 7:38Speaker 1: everyone involved.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Bit of a worry. mildly mad Sunday you had, did you?
- 7:42Speaker 4: Is that how it worked out? And then you don't
- 7:44Speaker 4: have mad Monday until later sort of thing or mad
- 7:47Speaker 4: whatever day.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 2: No. Yeah.
- 7:49Speaker 1: This was just a blur. We've just been trying to
- 7:51Speaker 1: spend time together. We had a function with the whole
- 7:53Speaker 1: club on Sunday and yeah, it's been good, but we'll
- 7:56Speaker 1: have our exit meetings this week and get that all
- 7:59Speaker 1: wrapped up and then yeah, enjoy our off season.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Have you been on, you know, around Frio sort of?
- 8:06Speaker 4: Where was that Irish pub? The vibe is.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:09Speaker 1: We've been, yeah, I've been in and around Freo, but
- 8:11Speaker 1: everyone I've bumped into has been, um, yeah, the fans
- 8:14Speaker 1: have been great. Sometimes you're not sure, obviously very disappointed
- 8:17Speaker 1: for the fans, but, uh, the messages and all the
- 8:20Speaker 1: well wishes and the support has been, um, has been
- 8:23Speaker 1: really nice to hear that, you know, all our fans
- 8:25Speaker 1: are in a way proud of us and, um, Absolutely.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Which has been nice.
- 8:29Speaker 3: I know you guys tend to forget that, you know,
- 8:32Speaker 3: because you sort of had, footballers have that attitude of
- 8:34Speaker 3: if we didn't win, we lost. But you're still, you know,
- 8:38Speaker 3: there's how many teams in this competition?
- 8:41Speaker 4: 18.
- 8:41Speaker 3: And 17 of them didn't make it to the grand final.
- 8:44Speaker 2: So, you know.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it is hard when you fall short. But,
- 8:49Speaker 1: I mean, when we reflect on the season, there's so
- 8:50Speaker 1: many positives that came out of it. And so many
- 8:53Speaker 1: great memories for not only us, but for our fans.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Like we, what, we won... every game except one at
- 8:59Speaker 1: Optus Stadium. We had over 50,000-plus at every home game. Yeah,
- 9:05Speaker 1: it was one of the most memorable seasons I've been
- 9:07Speaker 1: a part of, and I'm sure a lot of our
- 9:09Speaker 1: fans have. It would have been a fairy tale if
- 9:11Speaker 1: we had finished the job, but we get to do
- 9:13Speaker 1: it again next year.
- 9:14Speaker 3: No, it's been a very enjoyable season for Freo Docker fans.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and sadness turns to pride eventually.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Takes a little bit of time for perspective. That
- 9:22Speaker 2: probably doesn't help you right now. To kick in.
- 9:24Speaker 4: But with young years, well, like, your plan, I don't
- 9:28Speaker 4: know whose plan it was, but your plan to be
- 9:30Speaker 4: managed and get fit and be peak at the right
- 9:33Speaker 4: time worked beautifully, didn't it, for you personally?
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it worked out eventually. Yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I would have loved to have, you know, not had
- 9:41Speaker 1: the season that I had and sort of been able
- 9:43Speaker 1: to be consistent throughout the whole year and not have
- 9:45Speaker 1: to peak, you know, but The reality was that that's
- 9:48Speaker 1: just what happened and I'm proud of my efforts and
- 9:51Speaker 1: I'm proud of everyone that sort of was there to
- 9:54Speaker 1: support me and help me get to that you know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: that final series and be able to contribute.
- 9:59Speaker 4: And now, you know, on the big stage, you can deliver.
- 10:01Speaker 4: I mean, that's one of the great reliefs, I reckon.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Well, yeah. Because you delivered.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I think, and for a lot of our group,
- 10:07Speaker 1: we all delivered. Everyone played, had certain moments and, you know,
- 10:11Speaker 1: we played some pretty good footy. So we certainly take
- 10:13Speaker 1: a lot of belief from that. And yeah, it is, yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it's promising.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Next year is going to be amazing. Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Would you have liked to have had a fan day?
- 10:22Speaker 4: I know it's tricky when you lose. I wasn't, it's
- 10:24Speaker 4: just because you feel so flat and you don't really,
- 10:27Speaker 4: but they wanted to thank you. I think I feel,
- 10:29Speaker 4: it feels like the fans wanted to come out and
- 10:31Speaker 4: just say, thanks guys for an amazing year, even though
- 10:34Speaker 4: it didn't finish exactly how we wanted.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good question. I don't, I mean, I'm
- 10:39Speaker 2: sure it would be great.
- 10:40Speaker 1: And it's, I suppose it's up to the fans, but, um, Yeah,
- 10:44Speaker 1: it is a hard one because sometimes when you fail,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you don't want to be seen and you just want to,
- 10:48Speaker 1: you know, go off in your off season. But, I mean,
- 10:50Speaker 1: hopefully if we play round one next year or whenever
- 10:52Speaker 1: it is, we can, you know, see our fans again.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Give them something to smile about.
- 10:57Speaker 4: And do you like the questions about a dynasty? And
- 10:59Speaker 4: this happened to the Brisbane Lions.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Don't worry.
- 11:01Speaker 4: The same thing. They went through the same thing.
- 11:02Speaker 2: You just go, shut up.
- 11:03Speaker 3: No one wants to hear any of that.
- 11:05Speaker 2: No. All the cliches come out. Not at the moment.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Not right now.
- 11:11Speaker 1: No.
- 11:11Speaker 2: That's all right. Barra, there were 100,023 at the MCG.
- 11:14Speaker 3: The capacity is 100,024.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Do we know who didn't turn up?
- 11:18Speaker 4: Yeah, that must have been somebody. The atmosphere must have
- 11:21Speaker 4: been just amazing. And then it went to another level
- 11:23Speaker 4: with old Wolfie time, eh?
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yeah, well, yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 1: To be honest, majority of that day was one of
- 11:29Speaker 1: the best days of my life. Unfortunately, the last 5%,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, you could argue ruined it, but, I mean,
- 11:36Speaker 1: if you, like you said, perspective's an amazing thing and
- 11:39Speaker 1: you look at the whole final series and, you know,
- 11:41Speaker 1: the grand final was an amazing experience for everyone involved and,
- 11:45Speaker 1: I mean, yes, we all would have loved to have won, but,
- 11:47Speaker 1: that experience is going to hold us in really good stead.
- 11:49Speaker 1: And it's still, yeah, I'm still very honored and grateful
- 11:52Speaker 1: to be a part of it.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Has Caleb stopped talking about that bounce of that ball,
- 11:55Speaker 4: that ball that bounced in front of him and then
- 11:57Speaker 4: bounced over his head to his opponent, who happened to
- 12:00Speaker 4: be Ashcroft. I mean, that was just Stephen Milne bounce,
- 12:03Speaker 4: like from the St. Kilda game, wasn't it?
- 12:04Speaker 1: Yeah, no, he hasn't really brought it up too much,
- 12:07Speaker 1: but sometimes those things just, you know, it just wasn't
- 12:10Speaker 1: meant to be, unfortunately.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so true.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Well, Once you get through the tonsils surgery, have an
- 12:17Speaker 3: enjoyable off-season and we will see you. We'll do it
- 12:20Speaker 3: all again next year.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
- 12:23Speaker 4: And thanks for being here. I know how big an
- 12:26Speaker 4: effort this is. So well done, brother. On behalf of us.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Appreciate it.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I'm proud of you. Thanks, Hayden. Thank you very much.
