- 2:07at West Virginia University, forty five million dollars in at and well, there's
- 2:12a there's a website that looks into things going on at colleges. It's called
- 2:15College Fix, and they discovered that in the midst of all of this budget
- 2:22problems at West Virginia University, they got somebody there just thinking about two hundred
- 2:27and thirty thousand, I think two undred and thirty five thousand dollars a year,
- 2:30which is two hundred and ninety eight percent more than what the average WVU
- 2:34employee gets paid. And I'm not talking about somebody that is the president of
- 2:39the university. Going to get into the story is of a guy named Matt
- 2:43Lamb that runs this is actually an editor with this website. It's called college
- 2:47Face. We're going to talk to him coming up a little bit later on.
- 2:51Also, if you're an NFL fan, this story from this gentleman out
- 2:54of Shepherd University Martinsburg High School by the name of Tyson. He is a
- 3:00starting quarterback at least now for the Chicago Bears. He's lighting it up and
- 3:05everybody's around the country said, where the heck of Shepherd University and where is
- 3:08Martinsburg, West Virginia. Well. Joe Bricado for Metro News has been following
- 3:13the story closely. He's going to join us talk about that. Plus your
- 3:15calls and text are welcome to Bigley Piggli Wiggley hotline three zero four three four

- 3:23three five five zero zero eight. Just a couple of days away now from
- 3:27the seventeenth Annual Trick or Beat powered by Todd Judy Motors, Goimar Ballpark Thursday
- 3:31night. What he was from the beating is with us right now. What
- 3:34are you good morning? How are you good morning? Big dog? How
- 3:37you doing sir? I am doing well? Man. Seventeen years this is
- 3:40the seventeenth annual Trick or Beat powered by Todd Judy Motors. Seems like it
- 3:45was just yesterday, doesn't man to you? It might to you, It
- 3:49might three like yesterday to me. Seems like seventeen years in the making,
- 3:53my brother, But it's a beautiful thing. First, I want to congratulate
- 3:57you. You know you can smell money from a mile away. When they
- 4:00changed the name of a show, it's now the Dave Allen Shall congratulates my
- 4:04friend. Well, thank you, as I said yesterday on the show,
- 4:08and I already got a text about and somebody said, what happened to five
- 4:10to eighty Live? What did I miss? Absolutely nothing? Just to name
- 4:14change, you know. And about that smelling money part, man, are
- 4:16you really going to talk about somebody making money Woodrow? I mean, come
- 4:20on you, of all people, I got five kids in a grandchold.
- 4:25I gotta be out every day. But I understand. Tell us about the
- 4:30tricker beating. How the whole thing came about going back all those years ago?
- 4:33Man, Seventeen years ago, a ex coworker of mine, still a
- 4:38friend of mine, Lisa Lee, came up with something. He had a
- 4:40little extra sons in college. Now that is crazy. He's at Marshall Go
- 4:45heard. Yes. She's like, we need to do something that's safe and
- 4:47well lit. So we hooked up with the ballpark. It was power back
- 4:51then, and we've been going seventeen years. I never thought he's it like
- 4:57this will go seventeen years, but it's It is happening this Thursday at Gomart
- 5:02Ballpark, and it's getting bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger, like Dave.
- 5:08Literally, my phone hasn't stopped about tickets. Now here's the thing about
- 5:12the tickets. They are absolutely free. We do not charge for this event,
- 5:15but we must got it. We got to keep a count on how
- 5:18many kids that's going to come up, because we did it one year in
- 5:21like five six thousand kids that we didn't have enough candy. That wasn't right.
- 5:25So now we cut it off at three thousand kids and three thousand we'll
- 5:30be three thousand kids over at gomar Ball that we have two sessions now,
- 5:35the first session, all the tickets are gone. The second session day we
- 5:40got a few left. When I say a few, I'm talking about ten
- 5:43fifteen, twenty twenty five, ten and five forty like it's less than one
- 5:46hundred. So it's close to another sellout. Now, I don't know what
- 5:50do we call it a sellout if it's free or what are you? I
- 5:54mean? You could say, well, I don't know. I mean,
- 5:56you're you're the promoter. You tell me I don't know, but I mean,
- 6:00and it's important to know. This is why we do the tickets because
- 6:02people you know, and I've been there for three years, but I followed
- 6:05this. You know, going back years and years I heard about it and
- 6:08people said, you know, why do you have tickets for a free event.
- 6:12This is why you have to have tickets for a free event, because
- 6:15if everybody showed up, you know, we'd be completely out of candy.
- 6:19And so the first session is done, is what you're saying, right,
- 6:21Yes, sir, the first session, those tickets are gone, and the
- 6:25second session we got a few left. And if we don't do tickets,
- 6:30we'll be there to the ventus Thursday. We'll probably be there this Saturday morning.
- 6:33I give you a three day marathon. So we love we love the
- 6:38interest in it, we love how people support this, we love the community.
- 6:42I think we got over like thirty vendors that that's gonna be there passing
- 6:46now, Candy and Dave. The best part about this, my friend,
- 6:48Yes sir, we don't have like you know, you know, back in
- 6:51the day you might get a tutsi roll or an apple, or some people
- 6:57might even give you a piece of pie or something. You go walk around
- 7:00the neighborhood. We got the good candy. We got the candy bars,
- 7:02the Snickers, the Skittles, the reci cups like this probably This event has
- 7:10won multiple awards for the best promotion in the state. Yes A Radio wise,
- 7:15and we're gonna stand on that. Man. I think this is the
- 7:16best promotion that any radio station have done in the twenty three years out been
- 7:21in Charleston, and we're just gonna make it bigger and better. My brother
- 7:25and my producer, Ryan Nicholson is in there literally licking the glass on the
- 7:29studio right now. When you start talking about candy, he suddenly suddenly his
- 7:32Thursday night freed up. He's going to be there. So how does you
- 7:36said, there's a limited number of tickets. Where do people get tickets?
- 7:40You can get tickets at any Tide Judy Motors location. I think they got
- 7:44three. They got one in more Med, one in Saint Authres, and
- 7:46one on Charleston's west side Sir Patrick Street. Then you can get them out
- 7:51of our radio station eleven eleven Virginia Street East. And we just did this
- 7:57this. We just put some tickets in Elements Federal Credit Union. I think
- 8:01they got a couple locations that they got limited amount of tickets also, So
- 8:05you go to Element Federal Credit Union and get those tickets that hour you get
- 8:09your tickets today. Now, parents, you don't need tickets because we're not
- 8:13giving you candy now, just your kids. So don't go grab fifteen tickets.
- 8:18And you only got five kids, so please keep in mind it's a
- 8:20lot of kids in our listening area, so just just grab the tickets you
- 8:24need for your child, please or your children please. And our listening area
- 8:30just tripled over the last couple of months when we moved the Beat from ninety
- 8:35eight to seven to one oh seven to three. So now, I mean,
- 8:37you know, people can always listen online or on the app or whatever,
- 8:39but now people are listening to your station, the station of you and
- 8:45Act right and all the others. They're listening in Huntington, now, they're
- 8:48listening in Logan. I mean, they're listening in all these places right now.
- 8:52We do. You're out there, man, man, I love it.
- 8:54Man. I expect to see new faces. And that's what That's why
- 8:58I've been in I mean, it's not about me. That's why we've been
- 9:00in radio, yeah for a long time, to do this community work.
- 9:03Man. It seems like it's an easy thing to the regular eye, but
- 9:07it's a lot of work behind. It seems not just by me, the
- 9:11whole entire staff at our radio stage. We bust our bucks to make sure
- 9:16this is a fun, well lied. We've got Papa John's Pizza. It
- 9:20is probably one of the best parties that you're going to see with young folks
- 9:24in our state. And it's going down Thursday. I'm excited, my brother,
- 9:28and there's no way that we could pull this off, Woodie without the
- 9:31other sponsors. You know, you mentioned the folks at Todd Judy Motors,
- 9:35but there's so many others. Solango law A to Z Outlet, New Beginning
- 9:37Learning Academy, I Hop, the Charleston Police Department, Goodwill, West Virginia
- 9:41Eye Consultants, Family Care Health Centers, Doug scaff West Virginia Health, Right
- 9:46Norfolk Southern ten and Ten Inc. PoCA Valley Bank, Charleston Childcare Learning Center,
- 9:52Kidderoo's Ace's Coalition of Charleston, just to name a few. And that's
- 9:56a list I put together over the weekend. There's probably more has been added
- 10:00since then, Woodrow, no doubt, man. We've got to give a
- 10:01shout out to the city of Charleston, to our great mayor. She's like,
- 10:05yo, you know I'm gonna be there. So you know, Mayor,
- 10:07Mayor, like, we passed out a lot of candy in r booth,
- 10:11but I bet, I bet you the City of Charleston probably passed out
- 10:13about at least five thousand dollars worth of candy. They got to slow her
- 10:18down, Tina got to slow the mayor down, like, Yo, Mayor,
- 10:20we got another session. But that's what she does. Man, So
- 10:24shout out to the City of Charleston. And we're excited. I'm really excited
- 10:28because this is our first time doing this under the one oh seven three umbrellas.
- 10:33So we're gonna see a lot of new young folks walk through Gomar Ballpark
- 10:35this Thursday, and we hope so quickly. I'm gonna let you get a
- 10:39little plug in for the Beat. I mean, as I said, for
- 10:41years ninety eight seven was a staple. We did some moving around. We
- 10:43gave you more power. You and the guys over there and the ded of
- 10:48course and everybody. Uh so talk about what the what the buzz has been
- 10:52about the Beat since we upped your power by you know, about eight thousand
- 10:56percent. You know, the biggest thing is h brit the DJ act right
- 11:01back. Yes, sir, he's really he's really in the community. He's
- 11:05he's just he's like my little brother. Man. I've seen him grow so
- 11:07much. And coming up November first, if I can plug this, DJ
- 11:11act Right is gonna pay somebody mortgage or rent for the entire year. That's
- 11:16gonna start November first, on one O seven three, DJ act Right is
- 11:20gonna chill your bills and we're gonna pay somebody mortgage or rent four years.
- 11:26So, man, we got DJ act Right from ten to three, of
- 11:28course, me three to seven. You got d D in the morning from
- 11:31six to ten. Then we put on this new night so it's called Posted
- 11:35on the Corner with DJ Incognito and DJ Missus from seven to midnight. Man,
- 11:41so we're rolling. He's got g money on the weekend, so we're
- 11:43rolling, brother. Uh to a quick text here says capacity crowd is a
- 11:48good alternative to sold out for no charge events. Whoever said that tell him
- 11:52they're hired, because you're hired. Hey, and I think we're gonna have
- 11:58somebody on to talk about this again on the day of maybe DJ Actwright or
- 12:01we'll see, we'll have somebody from the beat on there. Woodie. I
- 12:03appreciate you being here again, the first segment, first session is sold out,
- 12:11only a few You're gonna need to get those tickets today at any of
- 12:13those locations that you mentioned. Come to the studio here eleven eleven Virginia Street
- 12:16East and Charleston, any Tide Judy location or the Element, folks. I
- 12:20mean, just get those tickets, but get them today. Parents don't need
- 12:24tickets, but kids do. So if a if a if a parent comes
- 12:28in Woody and they got three kids, they need three tickets. Is that
- 12:31right, yes, sir, yes, sir. Before we get off here,
- 12:33sir, I just want to give a shout out to Tyson Basent from
- 12:37Martinsburg. If you don't know, I lived in Martinsburg for four years and
- 12:41literally his dad his house was right behind our radio. Okay, literally I've
- 12:45seen Tyson has popped his mom, his little brother, and he's one of
- 12:50the nicest young men that you'll probably ever ever meet. And like we can
- 12:54see on a national level now, that kid is a dog like he can
- 12:58flat out place. So set out to the Basis family. Shout out to
- 13:01my Marsburg family out there. Also. Yeah, we're gonna talk to Joe
- 13:05Bricado about that coming up a little bit later in the show, Woody,
- 13:07I appreciate you, my brother, and we'll talk again soon. Thanks a
- 13:11lot, I love you, man. What was gonna save Valan Woody?

- 16:34Ryan Nicholson as our producer today. You know we've all heard and seen the
- 16:37problems associated with college in America and here in West Virginia. You only had
- 16:42to look to Morgantown to see the problems at WVU. To know what I'm
- 16:45talking about, There was a publication called The College Fix, and they recently
- 16:51published a story entitled amid massive budget cuts. WVU pays its Diversity, Equity
- 16:56and Inclusion Director two hundred and thirty five thousand dollars annually. Now that is
- 17:02two hundred and ninety eight percent two hundred and ninety eight percent higher than what
- 17:07the average worker at WVU makes. Matt Lamb is the associate editor of College
- 17:12Fix and he joined us now mag Good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 17:15Thanks for having me. First of all, I want to learn more about
- 17:18yours. I called it a publication, and old people like me refer to,
- 17:22you know, things as publications. Talk about College Fix. What kind
- 17:25of a what kind of an outreach is this is? The publication is online?
- 17:30What is just a little little commercial for College Fix? Yeah? Thank
- 17:33you. So the Collegefix dot com is online and we are a right leaning
- 17:40education higher education news site. And the other great thing we do is we
- 17:44actually train students in how to write stories, you know, go through primary
- 17:51sources, interview people. So we have two missions. We report on higher
- 17:55education news and then we also provide training to conservative, libertarian, center right
- 18:00students that want to go into media. So I sometimes say we're sort of
- 18:04like the farm team for Fox News, Washington Examiner, as well as other
- 18:10maybe more mainstream news outlets. So and I appreciate that. Now either you
- 18:15know, it's been documented by of all sorts of media, different outlets about
- 18:21the financial problems at WVU. Now we learned the device president for DEI and
- 18:26to us old people that sends for diversity, equity inclusion is raking in two
- 18:30hundred and thirty four thousand, five hundred and thirty seven dollars annually plus benefits.
- 18:34Now, the average worker, and we're not talking faculty, we're talking
- 18:37about the average worker WVU makes around forty three thousand dollars a year. The
- 18:41average full time faculty member WVU makes around ninety seven grand a year. So
- 18:48if you're keeping score at home, the director of this program is making two
- 18:52hundred and ninety eight two hundred ninety eight percent more than the average coworker of
- 18:59hers at w AM. I correct about that exactly. So Misha Por she's
- 19:04actually used to be a delegate and she runs a twelve person diversity office.
- 19:11Her salary is actually about thirty six percent of the salary budget for that twelve
- 19:15person department, which includes some people under that department, or let's say the
- 19:21Americans with Disability Act coordinator. So people who have actually a quality job that
- 19:26I think provides a good service are sort of lumpdin with the woke DEI chief
- 19:32and her different functions. Now, again, this is an institution we're talking
- 19:37about West Virginia University now MAD that's facing massive cuts and an estimated forty five
- 19:41million dollar deficit exactly. And so we spoke to Adam Kissell at the Cardinal
- 19:47Institute, and he said that DI offices and officers are expensive and often counterproductive.
- 19:52And he suggested that West Virginia officials, particularly as you mentioned, with
- 19:56this big deficit, should refocus on students success its for all students and not
- 20:00pushing d I on campus. Now again, you mentioned her name, Michell
- 20:06Porte. She's a former delegate and she is very well known in the Kanaal
- 20:10Valley. And I want to stress that I'm not faulting. This is just
- 20:12Dave talking. I'm not faulty miss Poor at all. I mean, she's
- 20:15just trying to get paid. So I'm not blaming her for this, but
- 20:18according to some of the research I did last night, her salary is in
- 20:22line with several larger corporations in America with I mean, but the difference is,
- 20:30Matt, those companies don't find themselves forty five million dollars in the whole
- 20:33like WVU does. And I don't know what they're cutting positions like West Virginia
- 20:38University is being forced to do now exactly, and you know, and in
- 20:44fact, the d I things are continuing. Just in September, the university
- 20:48hosted a what was called Diversity Week, which included playing with therapy dogs,
- 20:53a social and environmental justice fair, as well as other related activity. So
- 21:00no, I mean, and exactly, I mean, she gets paid the
- 21:03position that's there. It's not like she necessarily created that gallery. But it
- 21:07does speak to the broader problem, especially as you mentioned, as a university
- 21:11is looking to cut program faculty. They are one of the better universities in
- 21:17terms of reducing administrative blow, but they still have a big problem. They're
- 21:21just a little less worse than maybe Stanford University or Harvard. So for those
- 21:26of us that are old and don't understand what DEI folks do explain the whole
- 21:30concept, whether it's a university or corporation, whatever, explain the whole concept
- 21:36of this DEI and what exactly it means. Well, I'll tell you I've
- 21:41been trying to figure out for years what they do all day. But basically,
- 21:45a DEI chief pushes all of those those things you've probably heard about,
- 21:49anti racism, critical race theory. Sometimes they do these white privileged walks where
- 21:56they make all the white students say, you know, how privileged are you?
- 21:59Do you have two parents? Are you Christian? You know, do
- 22:03your parents have college degrees? So a lot of what they do is they
- 22:06just generate animosity on campus. The college ticks dot com has a handful of
- 22:11stories about universities that poured all this money into DEI and then there you know,
- 22:18the racial climate, as measured by asking the black and the Hispanic students
- 22:22didn't improve. In some ways, I think DEI works counter to it because
- 22:26it tells people there's a problem of racism where there really isn't. And I
- 22:30think a lot of this has exploded, as we've probably seen on college campuses
- 22:33in the past few weeks with pro hamas students who are saying that Hamas's terrorist
- 22:38attacks were just part of decolonization and fighting the oppressor. Yeah, I actually
- 22:44watched a little bit last night. I know, he's one of the most
- 22:47controversial guys out there and has been for some time. A lot of people
- 22:49like him, a lot of people don't. I don't agree with everything he
- 22:52does, but I'm I'm a fan of the show of Bill Maher, and
- 22:56I was watching Bill Maher from over the weekend. I was actually watching the
- 22:59show that I had recorded last night, and he was talking, you know,
- 23:02and he is generally speaking seen as a leftist of the left, of
- 23:06the most left of the left. He is speaking out against college campuses right
- 23:11now, for he calls them the end and he went to an Ivy League
- 23:14school, and he's talking about the indoctrination that's going on on these college campuses
- 23:21with things like this, and so now that if you've got Bill Maher,
- 23:23you know who's like, as I said, is to the left of the
- 23:26left, or at least has been for years speaking out against these things,
- 23:29you know, there's a problem. Absolutely. I mean, and we just
- 23:33see this when speakers are shouted down the college bicks actually runs a campus cancel
- 23:37Culture database, and we see these walls getting torn literally a wall was torn
- 23:42down in Virginia Tech or University of Virginia. Statues are torn down, people
- 23:48are canceled. There was actually a university that wanted to charge a higher security
- 23:52feed for a speaker from this great group called Speech First because her last name
- 23:57is Trump and she's not even to the president. But the school said,
- 24:00well, students might get confused and cause all these problems just because you have
- 24:06the same last name as a president who maybe isn't particularly popular among you know,
- 24:11leftist academics and their students. We had a couple of texts here to
- 24:15the show, and I want to give you an opportunity to address these again.
- 24:17We're talking with Matt Lamb from collegefix dot com about some of the other
- 24:21folks at WV. They mentioned Rob Alsop, but I know you're out of
- 24:23state. I don't expect you to know all these people. But to the
- 24:26president, Gordon Gee, I mean, these these salaries are out of line,
- 24:30regardless of who they are and who hold the office. Would you agree
- 24:33with that? Yeah, in many cases, I forget what the study's from,
- 24:37but that they've compared college salaries to their equivalent in the corporate world,
- 24:45and in many cases it's particularly among the administrative. I think they're much higher.
- 24:49A janitor at a college orsus a jenitor at private corporation. It's just
- 24:52roughly equal, let's say, or a landscaper campus police officer. But you
- 24:57know, the equity the DI officers. I mean, most most small companies
- 25:03don't even have the I officers, and for a good reason. So,
- 25:07yeah, a lot of these salaries are just completely out of line with with
- 25:11the rare equivalent because there's no way to measure the benefit of them. Yeah,
- 25:15and this is something I mean, we're going to continue to see out
- 25:18there. But is there a I mean, again, if a college,
- 25:22in my opinion, can afford it, you know, more power to them.
- 25:25And again I want to say, just for me, I'm my problem
- 25:27is not with the person holding the office. My problem is with the system
- 25:30in general that allows us to happen. If a college is if their books
- 25:33are all inline and they can do, you know, more power to them.
- 25:37But the problem, you know, Matt at WVU, is they're not.
- 25:40And that's why we're seeing people And there's been many on this show and
- 25:42on other places that I've talked about we've got to do something to WVU.
- 25:45Seems like to me, from what you're telling me, this might be a
- 25:49good place to start. Exactly. Look, I look, I've worked for
- 25:52nonprofits my entire life, and you know, I've been in the meetings where
- 25:56you look at the budget and you have a certain amount of money coming in,
- 26:00and of course you know we're a nonprofit. We couldn't just go to
- 26:03the tax pair like West Virginia can and just you know, fleece them out
- 26:06of more money. And so I think every position is it's perfectly reasonable to
- 26:10say should this be cut, should this be frozen? Perhaps you keep some
- 26:12of the de staff, but you cut back on some of their activities,
- 26:17or you maybe have them do something of actual value, perhaps running you know,
- 26:21some sort of program to help maybe minority students or all students succeed.
- 26:25And so absolutely I think it should be on the table. I mean,
- 26:27I think if you're cutting the civil engineering program or discussing cutting it, that
- 26:32the DEI chief we should be looking at what do they bring to the table,
- 26:36What does her department bring to the table. And again no sort of
- 26:38animosity against her personally, but just looking at it. From a number's perspective.
- 26:42Yeah, well, it's kind of like I'm a big sports gap man.
- 26:45It's kind of like saying, well, I don't think major League Baseball
- 26:48players out to get twenty million dollars a year, but I don't fault the
- 26:49first basement for the Yankees for taking the twenty million dollars a year because it's
- 26:53there. Hey, Matt, it's been a pleasure to talking to you.
- 26:56Is college fix dot com if you want to see more information on this and
- 26:59others ords. This is not just a West Virginia thing. And I did
- 27:03a deep dive into your website last night and your social media. There's a
- 27:07lot of stories like this across the country, and so I would I would,
- 27:12I would urge people if they want more information to go to that.
- 27:17Matt. I appreciate you being here. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot,
- 27:18man. Yep, thanks having me twenty six minutes away from ten.
- 27:22Dave Allen Show brought to you probably by Husband's Pizza. This month, at
- 27:25your favorite Hustans, get a large at and inch pepperoni pizza and any pizza

- 27:33at husbands Pizza dot Com. Again, want to stress that you know,
- 27:38the issue and the reason I had Matt on the show had nothing to do
- 27:41with me shapport personally. I don't know her. I don't fault her.
- 27:44This is not her fault for getting paid. Okay, make that money,
- 27:48that's what he WOULDS and I were talking about there, and make the money.
- 27:52But is this really the best way to go about it? When you
- 27:55have an institution that's forty five million dollars in the whole Texas. Why doesn't
- 27:57the so called anti woo gade go after AEP. They have a major DEI
- 28:03program. I'll tell you why. The so called anti brigade doesn't stand on
- 28:06principle. It doesn't operate in good faith. Don't listen to this and sepid
- 28:10moron. Well, although it's a utility, AEP is a private company,
- 28:15so and well with a you know, I guess, I guess the power
- 28:18company and utilities are one of those that kind of kind of you know,
- 28:22straddle the line, so to speak. But they're still a privately held company.
- 28:26They're they're a private company. If if IBM wants to do this,
- 28:30a Toyota wants to do this, you know, more power to them,
- 28:33in my opinion. Twenty five minutes away from ten the Day Valance Show brought

- 33:24want to bring in the hardest working man in radio, Joe Bricado for Metro
- 33:28and his Joe good morning, How are you hey? Good morning, David,
- 33:31thanks for being here. The whole NFL world is talking about this young
- 33:35man, Tyson Bagent, young man from Martinsburg, played his college ball at
- 33:38Shepherd University, was undrafted, signed with the Bears, and really lit hit
- 33:43up this past weekend against the Raiders in his first NFL start. Yeah,
- 33:47tremendous performance, very efficient, nothing too flashy. They didn't ask him to
- 33:52throw downfield on every snap, but they gave him a good playbook to work
- 33:55with and he played very effectively. Completed twenty one out of nine passes as
- 34:00first NFL touchdown pass. A very good performance from that young man. And
- 34:05as you mentioned, the backstory is incredible, and it's interesting to see a
- 34:09lot of the national people that covered the NFL start to pick up on it,
- 34:14and it's starting to gain a lot of steam. Yeah, indeed,
- 34:17and I've been reading about this guy for years. I had Woody Woods on
- 34:21a little bit earlier what he spent some time up in Martinsburg, and he
- 34:23talked about I guess that the gentleman's family lived near the radio station that we
- 34:27have up there. But from the coverage that you've done and Kyle and the
- 34:30others, Fred and the entire crew have done, this guy's been a big
- 34:34deal for some time. He has been. Anybody who follows West Virgnia High
- 34:38School football obviously knew what he did growing up, winning a pair of state
- 34:42titles for Martinsburg in twenty sixteen and twenty seventeen, and it was kind of
- 34:46surprising that he never really generated not only any type of high level Division one
- 34:52offers, but he didn't have any Division one offers. There were some schools
- 34:55that were talking to him, but in terms of formal scholarship offer, Shepherd
- 35:00was the best move for him, and it obviously worked out tremendously well.
- 35:04Played five seasons there so that all kinds of records that you could possibly imagine,
- 35:08and led Shepard to the NAA Division two semi finals in his last two
- 35:13seasons. So, with all due respect to my alma matern, Marshall university
- 35:15in West Virginia University and all the others. Where were they when this young
- 35:20man was trying to decide to pick a college. Well, you're right,
- 35:23it's not just it's not just West Virginia. It's not just Marshalls. I
- 35:28mean, there's lots of other division you know, Shepherd's obviously not far from
- 35:30Maryland. You would have figured that that might have generated a little buzz,
- 35:35and Tyson did get some interest when he entered the transfer portal prior to the
- 35:40twenty twenty two season. Some Division one programs were certainly on him, but
- 35:45he made the decision to return to Sheppard and put up great numbers in that
- 35:49final season there. And he was the first West Virginia, the first West
- 35:53Virginia born and bred player to start at quarterback in the NFL. And quite
- 36:00sometimes is that that read the nineteen sixties? Is that right? I believe
- 36:04so? Yes. And to be able to win his first start, you
- 36:07know, that's truly incredible. And what was interesting And I had a chance
- 36:12to cover his pro day, or the separate university pro day back in March,
- 36:15and there were scouts from thirty one of the thirty two NFL teams there,
- 36:20and I kind of thought to myself, all right, this guy is
- 36:22certainly going to get drafted, it's just a question of what round. So
- 36:25it was a little bit surprising that he didn't get drafted. But I think
- 36:30a lot of times you hear that if you're a player that maybe gets picked
- 36:34in the back half of the seventh round or the last round, maybe it's
- 36:37better for you to be an undrafted free agent because you can kind of pick
- 36:39your spot. And perhaps this situation worked out best for Tyson because the Chicago
- 36:45Bears quarterback position really wasn't a very deep room behind Justin Fields. They had
- 36:49had a couple of NFL journeymen, and ultimately Baijorent beats out all those guys
- 36:53to get the backup spot. And we see how that pays off once Justin
- 36:57Fields got injured. And I know some of the people maybe think what about
- 37:00Hostetler or Bulger or Chad Pennington Byron Left, which none of those players,
- 37:04as good as they were, were from West Virginia originally as Tyson Beijing is.
- 37:08Again we're talking to Joe Bricado for Metro New Sports. I wonder what
- 37:12the Google searches look like for Shepherd University, Joe. After Sunday's game,
- 37:15everyone outside of the state, maybe some inside the state trying to figure out
- 37:20where in the heck is Shepherd University. Yeah, no question about it.
- 37:24Undoubtedly Shepherd rams dot com has probably gotten a lot more hits over the last
- 37:28couple of days then previously. And obviously that's still a heck of a program.
- 37:31They're having another great year. But you know, it's also a great
- 37:35showcase for the strength of football throughout all of the levels of college football.
- 37:39I mean, you do have good players that come up at the smaller Division
- 37:43I schools, the FCS level, and obviously there's lots of Division two football
- 37:46players that break through every year and get into the pros. But it's interesting
- 37:52to see that the quarterback position because it is so rare to have that.
- 37:55So Justin Fields is a quarterback for the Bears. Now he's getting the big
- 37:59money, so he's not to be going anywhere. They say, I think
- 38:00I read somewhere about a month or two he may be back under under center
- 38:05in the starting position. Is that right? Yeah? What Matt Evercluster head
- 38:09coach, has said. Once Field is healthy and recovered from his thumb injury.
- 38:13The job is his. He will not lose the job due to injury.
- 38:15Now, Field did have a good performance against the Commanders recently in the
- 38:20bears first win of the season, but wasn't exactly setting the world on fire.
- 38:23So you have to wonder if Beagent, for however long he remains the
- 38:28starter, has success, does he kind of win over the Chicago fan base
- 38:32to a point where maybe they're okay if Fields doesn't come back and be the
- 38:37starter. Now, again, it's a high investment that they made in justin
- 38:42Fields and not so much enticson Beagent. So from the organization's standpoint, Field
- 38:46is still their guy, but beaigent has an opportunity to gain a lot of
- 38:51good will if he's able to duplicate the performance he had on Sunday. Well,
- 38:53and I don't know what kind of contract deal that he's got, As
- 38:55you said that he wasn't drafted. He signed as a as a free agent
- 38:59for the Bears, Joe, So I don't know. Maybe sometimes situations like
- 39:02this, you're auditioning for another team, you know, on down the line.
- 39:07So they're certainly and again we don't want to we don't put this guy
- 39:09in Canton just yet, Okay, he just he just had the you know,
- 39:13they're really and as you said, it wasn't that he did had a
- 39:15great game, but he managed the game. And sometimes in football that's all
- 39:20you need, you don't know, I mean, there have been plenty of
- 39:22Super Bowls that were won by quarterbacks that may not have been the best,
- 39:25didn't really light it up, but they managed the game well. It didn't
- 39:29make all the mistakes. And for mister Maagent Joe, for the rest of
- 39:32us enjoy it because it's a great sports story for all of West Virginia.
- 39:37And his dad was a World arm Wrestling champion too, is I think he
- 39:40pointed out, Yeah, so you're picking up his story as well. Tyson's
- 39:46father who gained a lot of attention as Tyson's profile started to gain. You
- 39:52know, during the Senior Bowl, I remember seeing a lot of coverage,
- 39:54well, who's this Tyson Bajon, Who's this Division two guy that's competing with
- 39:59all of the blue chip prospects from the Division one level, And then you
- 40:01start to see the story about I believe it's a twenty six time World of
- 40:07Arm Wrestling champion. I'm not one hundred percent certain on the actual number.
- 40:09But yeah, so obviously Tyson's father is picking up a lot of well arnered
- 40:15attention as well. Alongside there's like ten different e sixties documentaries that could come
- 40:20out of this whole story. Joe the Hardest working Man in Radio Joe Bricatto.
- 40:23I appreciate you join us. We'll talk to you, buddy. Thanks

- 47:00and Timbers Show at the Kyloe Seuma Convention Center, happening this weekend. Let
- 47:07me see, Texas, just heard the end of your interview about WVU doesn't
- 47:12I don't know how much as a texture that Misha makes, but she's a
- 47:15superstar per person who you would really like. Again, I can't speak for
- 47:19the folks at this at college. Fix it's not about her, It's not
- 47:23I mean, as a matter of fact, I even toyed with the idea,
- 47:27let's don't even put a name in there. Okay, it's not about
- 47:29her. She obviously applied for a job and that was the salary, going
- 47:34in more power tour, get the money. I have no issue with her
- 47:37at all. It's about the bigger problem I think is what they're talking about,
- 47:40not against her at all. And if ms poor who I don't know,
- 47:45she's from the Kenawh Valley, She's more than welcome to come on the
- 47:46show. I do know that the folks at College Fix reached out to WVU
- 47:51for comments from the university on this and they all decline comment. I do
- 47:54know that. But now, if she wants to come on this show,
- 47:57she is more than welcome to. My issue not with her at all at
- 48:01all. Okay at all, Texas College Fix is all about the numbers.
- 48:06And don't talk about the four hundred thousand and eight hundred thousand dollars salaries for
- 48:09Allsop and Gordon g respectively or Gee, I should say, Nor do they
- 48:15mention the excessive private playing expenses for Gee. Blame for the WVU situation to
- 48:20ultimately rest with leadership Gi and Allsop. When a numbers person only complains about
- 48:24the black person salary question, the motive, well, not everybody that holds
- 48:28those jobs across America as a person of color. Because I actually looked into
- 48:32that last night, and that's they're not all folks of color. Okay,
- 48:38I got our winner here. Lillian McCown is our winner of the tickets to
- 48:43the Log Show Log Home Show this weekend. So Lillian, I appreciate you
- 48:46listening and enjoy the show. Really weird story out of Putnam County. It's
- 48:52posed to wv Metronews dot com. A former employee with the Postal Service has
- 48:57pled guilty to desertion of mail. He has. His name is Michael Burdette
- 49:01and he's from Saint Albans. Originally, he admitted to placing mail and a
- 49:07dumpster in Winfield at least twice. And the reason is because he was running
- 49:14late for a personal matter, so he just ditched the mail and admitted that
- 49:19he did had appointments, had something to with the family, whatever, just
- 49:22do it behind a dumpster in Winfield. Now, to be fair, he
- 49:24was kind of like a contract worker. He was hired by UPS as a
- 49:30rural carrier associate earlier this year. He admitted that over two hundred pieces of
- 49:35mail just got tossed. His sentencing is scheduled for January. He's facing him
- 49:40to a year in prison and some fines and as I read this story last
- 49:45night, I'm thinking, by all means, let's expand vote by mail.
- 49:52I'm not an election conspiracy by any stretch of the imagination. You know me.
- 49:57You know that. I'm the guy who said, as a Republican,
- 50:00Trump lost the election in twenty twenty. I get it, but I'm not
- 50:05so sure that expanding vote by mail is a way to go. And it's
- 50:09stories like this, albeit maybe a isolated incident, that kind of solidify my
- 50:16opinion on that. Now I'm not saying, don't get me wrong with this
- 50:20guy was involved in election tamperum because there were no elections around that time.
- 50:22Just looks like, according to his own emission, he was running late and
- 50:25decided to just toss some mail behind a dumpster in Winfield. But things like
- 50:30that do happen. I told you yesterday that Delicatemore Capita was somewhat critical of
- 50:37Attorney General Patrick Morrissey for not wanting to take part in the Metro News gubernatorial
- 50:40debate of Morgantound in December. Morrissey wants to wait until after the filing deadline,
- 50:45which is in January. Well, now you could add Secretary of State
- 50:46Mac Warner to the list of Republican candidates who are criticizing the AG two story
- 50:52post to wv Metronews dot com, Warner says Morrissey is being quote disingenuous,
- 50:58saying yesterday one of our sister stations, mister Warner, was that he said
- 51:02that yesterday there Warner, Capito, and Chris Miller are all good with the
- 51:07debate narrated a hoppy in Morgantown in December. Now keep in mind that no
- 51:12one asks of yesterday is officially a candidate until the January finaling period is up.
- 51:16Warner, Capitol, and Miller have all filed pre candidacy papers for governor,
- 51:21while Morrissey still listed as a pre candidate for undeclared. I wouldn't read
- 51:25too much into that, though. Morrissey's definitely going to be a candidate for
- 51:29governor. I mean he's leading in the polls for governor and the money raising
- 51:31departments as well. Tix says WVU came after Mishapor she was at the legislature.
- 51:40YEP, that is true. According to a texture Texas mail carry throws
- 51:46his LifeWay because he was running late on his route. Terrible decisions. As
- 51:51a text all right. Coming up on the show tomorrow, Sandy Call for
- 51:52Bridge Road Bistro is going to be here. Plus maybe Ryan, they could
- 51:58send me to sort out the crisis in Israel because I have Democratic Party Chair
- 52:01and Delicate Mike Pushkin and Senate Finance Chair Eric Tarr in the building at the
- 52:07same time. Now they're scheduled for different times talking about different things, once
- 52:12at nine twenty, ones at nine forty, but I am gonna try my
- 52:14best to get the two of them inside the studio at one point tomorrow.
- 52:19If I do that, I'm headed to the Middle East. All Right,
- 52:22we gotta go. Thank you so much for my guests on the show today,
- 52:24Hobbies coming up next with the News, Ryan Nicholson, Thank you so
- 52:27much for their excellent job that you always do. I will see you tomorrow.
- 52:30Till then, have fun. WHSAW two four three d RFM, Charles
