- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, it's the second hour, by the way. If you
- 0:03Speaker 1: just joined us, you missed the first hour. Remember, it's
- 0:06Speaker 1: 9 to noon, 9 a.m. to noon every day, three
- 0:09Speaker 1: hours every day. Mark Simone here. A lot to get to. Now,
- 0:14Speaker 1: the governor's race, you got Kathy Hochul, who is driving
- 0:18Speaker 1: everybody nuts, possibly. I was going to say the worst
- 0:21Speaker 1: governor ever. You got to still give that title to Cuomo. Yeah,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Hochul is awful. But remember, it was Cuomo that pushed
- 0:28Speaker 1: this no bail, no jail on us, creating the crime wave. Remember,
- 0:32Speaker 1: it was Cuomo that started this whole thing about closing
- 0:36Speaker 1: all the prisons and letting the prisoners out. Remember, it
- 0:38Speaker 1: was Cuomo that shut down Indian Point, which tripled our
- 0:43Speaker 1: electric bills instantly. You know, Hochul's very bad, but you
- 0:47Speaker 1: got to give Cuomo the award for worst governor ever.
- 0:51Speaker 1: So Bruce Blakeman started the race for... Far behind, 25
- 0:56Speaker 1: points behind. Then next thing you know, he's 15 points behind.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Then the next thing you know, he's 10 points behind.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Now it looks like he's somewhere around five points behind
- 1:04Speaker 1: and catching up. But this was his pattern in Long Island,
- 1:08Speaker 1: which has the same Democratic makeup, Nassau County, as the
- 1:12Speaker 1: state of New York. And he came from behind and
- 1:15Speaker 1: won and won big. So expect that to happen here.
- 1:18Speaker 1: We'll talk to him in the next hour. But the
- 1:22Speaker 1: problem is money. You know, Kathy Hochul has raised $ 22 million,
- 1:26Speaker 1: and she'll get another $ 20 million from the DNC. It's
- 1:31Speaker 1: a lot of money to campaign with. Blakeman, I think
- 1:34Speaker 1: he's up to $ 12, $ 13, $ 14 million. So the problem
- 1:39Speaker 1: is a lot of the big donors, in fact, all
- 1:40Speaker 1: the big donors, would rather have Blakeman. You talk to
- 1:43Speaker 1: any of the big, big donors in New York, they
- 1:46Speaker 1: all would rather have Blakeman. But many of them are
- 1:49Speaker 1: afraid to donate because they do business here, and they
- 1:51Speaker 1: don't want to upset Kathy Hochul. It could affect their business.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But some guys, they don't care. Take James Dolan, who
- 2:02Speaker 1: owns Madison Square Garden, the Knicks, the Rangers, Radio City,
- 2:05Speaker 1: all that. Dolan has put together a super PAC with
- 2:10Speaker 1: millions of dollars, and they've been taking out ads everywhere
- 2:14Speaker 1: denouncing Kathy Hochul. They're about to launch billboards, huge billboards
- 2:20Speaker 1: all over the city denouncing Hochul. So good for Dolan
- 2:26Speaker 1: doing a lot of good here. There's another super PAC
- 2:29Speaker 1: with millions of dollars. They're going to jump in and
- 2:32Speaker 1: back Blakeman. So that's going to help a lot. And
- 2:36Speaker 1: just Blakeman on his own, great candidate. The race really
- 2:40Speaker 1: starts now after Labor Day. Once you get through Labor Day,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I know there's a lot of campaigning in the summer,
- 2:45Speaker 1: but this is where it really heats up. Hochul has
- 2:48Speaker 1: agreed to one debate. Hopefully she'll agree to more. Problem
- 2:51Speaker 1: with that one debate, it's on New York One, which
- 2:53Speaker 1: is the most biased left-wing channel in the world. The
- 2:57Speaker 1: other problem is nobody sees New York One. That's why
- 2:59Speaker 1: Hochul chose it. But as I say, Blakeman will be
- 3:03Speaker 1: with us later. We'll see if he's pushing for that
- 3:05Speaker 1: second debate, if they think they can get it. Hey,
- 3:09Speaker 1: the U.S. Open is over. Yesterday was the last day.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Thank goodness. They'll be leaving all these tennis players. Now,
- 3:18Speaker 1: the next thing to come, I guess it's September 18th
- 3:22Speaker 1: to the, yes, next week. Actually, it starts, when's the 18th?
- 3:27Speaker 1: I think that's Friday, Saturday. And it goes for 10 days.
- 3:32Speaker 1: This is the UN General Assembly. That's where all the
- 3:35Speaker 1: world leaders come to New York. It is the biggest
- 3:39Speaker 1: traffic nightmare of the year. Not just around the U.N.
- 3:43Speaker 1: You remember these, it's a nightmare around there, but you
- 3:45Speaker 1: remember these world leaders stay at all the top hotels
- 3:49Speaker 1: in New York. So all over the place, tremendous security.
- 3:53Speaker 1: A lot of them stay at the Waldorf. Some of
- 3:55Speaker 1: them stay at the Pierre, the Four Seasons, the St. Regis.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So you can see massive, massive gridlock everywhere. That's September
- 4:04Speaker 1: 18th through the 28th. Netanyahu coming to visit, of course,
- 4:08Speaker 1: for the U.N. General Assembly. Remember, Mamdani has threatened to
- 4:12Speaker 1: arrest him. Now, he has no authority to arrest Netanyahu.
- 4:17Speaker 1: President Trump has said, absolutely not, Netanyahu will not, he said,
- 4:23Speaker 1: in no way, shape, or form face arrest. President Trump
- 4:27Speaker 1: and the federal government will protect him the entire time
- 4:29Speaker 1: he's here. Now, how could Mamdani arrest him? Well, he's
- 4:35Speaker 1: claiming that because he was convicted in the International Criminal Court,
- 4:41Speaker 1: And they've issued an arrest warrant for him. Sounds pretty impressive,
- 4:44Speaker 1: doesn't it? The International Criminal Court. Well, it's not a
- 4:49Speaker 1: real thing. It actually is. It's just a bunch of guys.
- 4:52Speaker 1: They call themselves the International Criminal Court. They have no
- 4:55Speaker 1: legal authority to do anything. The U.S. doesn't recognize them.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Most countries don't recognize them. It's just a bunch of
- 5:03Speaker 1: left-wing kooks in, where are they? In somewhere in the Netherlands,
- 5:09Speaker 1: somewhere there's this international criminal court has absolutely no authority.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It's not a real court. It doesn't mean anything. You
- 5:16Speaker 1: can't arrest somebody based on that. President Trump has made
- 5:20Speaker 1: that clear. Mamdani, when he campaigned, that was one of
- 5:24Speaker 1: his promises that he would arrest Netanyahu. When he was
- 5:28Speaker 1: first mayor, he doubled down on it. But even he's
- 5:31Speaker 1: quietly admitting that. He doesn't have any power to do this.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And that's the good thing about Mamdani. As terrible as
- 5:38Speaker 1: the guy is, luckily, he gets nothing done. You'll never
- 5:42Speaker 1: see free buses. He can't arrest Netanyahu. You'll never see
- 5:46Speaker 1: these grocery stores. They'll never actually get built. Nothing he
- 5:50Speaker 1: does will ever actually happen. So Lindsey Clancy looking for
- 5:55Speaker 1: a plea deal. The lawyer all over television trying to
- 6:00Speaker 1: scare the prosecutors not to recharge her. I don't think
- 6:03Speaker 1: that's going to work, but he keeps pushing for that.
- 6:07Speaker 1: And this DA's office doesn't usually do plea deals, but
- 6:10Speaker 1: we'll see. There was that one lone juror who held out. Now,
- 6:16Speaker 1: a lot of times this guy becomes, whoever the lone
- 6:19Speaker 1: juror is, becomes the villain because he screwed up the
- 6:21Speaker 1: whole thing. But in this case, where he said he
- 6:23Speaker 1: had reasonable doubt, you can understand it. I understand the argument.
- 6:28Speaker 1: She had psychological problems, the medication, something, but she did
- 6:33Speaker 1: strangle her three kids. She strangled and killed and choked
- 6:38Speaker 1: to death her three little children, including a baby. So
- 6:42Speaker 1: I could see where somebody is not going to let
- 6:45Speaker 1: that go. Somebody's going to convict. One juror held out.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Now you got this awful, evil Gayle King, who in
- 6:51Speaker 1: real life is one of the nastiest, awful women you
- 6:54Speaker 1: could ever meet, this Gayle King. And everything is race
- 6:59Speaker 1: with her. So there was one juror that held out.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And I kept hearing about this one lone juror. It
- 7:04Speaker 1: never occurred to me to ask, is it a man?
- 7:07Speaker 1: Is it a woman?
- 7:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I just never, you know, I certainly never thought, oh,
- 7:12Speaker 1: is it white or black? But leave it up to
- 7:14Speaker 1: Gayle King to ask. And she got all upset at
- 7:17Speaker 1: the answer. She's interviewing one of the jurors who talked
- 7:19Speaker 1: about the lone juror. And then Gayle King, well, take
- 7:22Speaker 1: a listen.
- 7:23Speaker 2: One person of color, was a person of color a
- 7:25Speaker 2: woman or a man? A man.
- 7:26Speaker 1: A man.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Is a holdout juror? A person, a black man? Yes.
- 7:33Speaker 2: A black man is a holdout juror? Yes. Well, I
- 7:38Speaker 2: have to sit with that for just a second.
- 7:41Speaker 1: First time you ever heard Gayle King speechless. He's black?
- 7:49Speaker 1: I have to sit with that for a moment. What
- 7:50Speaker 1: do you have to sit with? What's the difference? Who
- 7:52Speaker 1: cares what color he is? Sounds like a reasonable guy.
- 7:56Speaker 1: who said, I can't acquit somebody who just murdered and
- 8:00Speaker 1: choked to death and strangled their three children. I can't
- 8:03Speaker 1: acquit on them. It's not, there's no racial component to
- 8:06Speaker 1: this in any way. How the hell does she, but
- 8:10Speaker 1: as I say, if you ever spend any time with
- 8:13Speaker 1: Gayle King, she's the nastiest, most awful, awful woman you
- 8:18Speaker 1: could ever run into in real life. Hey, uh, Celine
- 8:22Speaker 1: Dion made her big comeback. She hasn't performed in years.
- 8:26Speaker 1: She has terrible medical problems. Looks like she's overcome them.
- 8:31Speaker 1: She had this awful disease. She's been fighting it. She's been,
- 8:35Speaker 1: I guess she's better. She's been going to therapy for
- 8:38Speaker 1: some time. And she was going to come back, make
- 8:42Speaker 1: her comeback. And she did it in Paris, France. A residency.
- 8:46Speaker 1: You know how Billy Joel did Madison Square Garden? You know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: that residency. She's going to do the same thing. at
- 8:52Speaker 1: the plenitude arena in Paris. That is actually, it's right
- 8:56Speaker 1: outside Paris. It's in the Western suburbs. She's going to
- 9:00Speaker 1: do a 26 show residency. Now this is a big arena.
- 9:05Speaker 1: It holds about 35,000 people. I hear they're squeezing in
- 9:09Speaker 1: about 40,000 for her. So to sell 26 shows out
- 9:14Speaker 1: of that, that's pretty amazing. A lot of people went
- 9:17Speaker 1: over there, flew over to Paris. If you follow certain
- 9:21Speaker 1: people on, uh, social media. There's Susan Lucci. There's Joan London.
- 9:25Speaker 1: There's Sarah Lee. What's her name? They're all over there
- 9:30Speaker 1: for the big opening night. It was quite an opening night.
- 9:33Speaker 1: It was quite dramatic. This arena, again, I think it's
- 9:36Speaker 1: actually right now the largest indoor arena in Europe, bigger
- 9:40Speaker 1: than the Olympic Stadium in Moscow. In fact, they hosted
- 9:44Speaker 1: some of the 2024 Summer Olympics in this arena. But
- 9:49Speaker 1: Celine Dion came out. Obviously, Standing ovation that went for
- 9:53Speaker 1: 10 minutes. And then she was very dramatic. She said
- 9:56Speaker 1: she didn't want to cry.
- 9:57Speaker 2: I made a promise. I made a promise to come
- 10:01Speaker 2: back and to be back on stage. So here I am.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Yeah, but she did cry.
- 10:10Speaker 2: But I won't stop.
- 10:12Speaker 1: And I guess this was the big hit of the night.
- 10:15Speaker 1: This song was very dramatic. You remember the song All
- 10:18Speaker 1: By Myself? 1976, I think. Eric Carman. He used to
- 10:24Speaker 1: be with the Raspberries. It was this big, big solo hit,
- 10:28Speaker 1: but she does it now, and it was the high
- 10:30Speaker 1: point of the concert.
- 10:31Speaker 2: All by myself.
- 10:36Speaker 1: And in my Now you're going to read how she
- 10:53Speaker 1: did it. Oh, she did a two-hour show. It was amazing.
- 10:56Speaker 1: 90 minutes of it was applause, standing ovation. So she
- 11:00Speaker 1: really didn't have to actually sing that much. But good
- 11:02Speaker 1: for her. She's back, and it's a great thing. So
- 11:06Speaker 1: she'll do all these shows over there. Then eventually she'll
- 11:08Speaker 1: be here. I would imagine it's Madison Square Garden when
- 11:11Speaker 1: she gets to New York. So, hey, summer. You've got
- 11:15Speaker 1: eight days left of summer. Eight days left. Terrible flooding
- 11:19Speaker 1: over the weekend. really bad in Fairfield County, Stanford, Darien, Westport,
- 11:25Speaker 1: tremendous flooding. Cars had to be rescued. It was just,
- 11:30Speaker 1: just awful. Uh, the iPhone, well, uh, it's selling like crazy.
- 11:35Speaker 1: The new iPhone pro, uh, the 18, the 18 is
- 11:40Speaker 1: the big seller. The 18 pro max selling like crazy.
- 11:44Speaker 1: The orders are unbelievable. If you were, uh, uh, Ordering,
- 11:49Speaker 1: like the first day, Saturday was the first day you
- 11:51Speaker 1: could order. You'll get it like in a week or two.
- 11:53Speaker 1: If you try to order now, it's middle of October,
- 11:56Speaker 1: maybe late October. They're so backed up on orders. The
- 12:00Speaker 1: foldable phone, eh, not doing so well. Most reviewers who
- 12:05Speaker 1: got the foldable phone, where you unfold it and it's
- 12:07Speaker 1: a bigger screen, basically said it's great for a while.
- 12:12Speaker 1: The novelty wears off. Some people need it. If you really...
- 12:19Speaker 1: need a bigger screen you just get the iPad mini
- 12:22Speaker 1: it's the same size as the foldable and it's actually
- 12:24Speaker 1: better it works better I don't need to unfold a
- 12:28Speaker 1: phone and have it be bigger just the only good
- 12:32Speaker 1: explanation I've heard is some people if they need in
- 12:35Speaker 1: their business they use big charts or diagrams or spreadsheets
- 12:39Speaker 1: or whatever they need that big screen but outside of
- 12:42Speaker 1: that you really don't now a lot of reviewers are
- 12:44Speaker 1: saying if you have the 17 the iPhone 17 the
- 12:47Speaker 1: current one You don't really need to upgrade unless you
- 12:52Speaker 1: want a much better camera. The camera is better if
- 12:55Speaker 1: you need more storage, if you need more speed. Well,
- 12:58Speaker 1: then upgrade. But for normal use, the 17 is pretty close.
- 13:02Speaker 1: One big difference with the 18, much longer battery. The
- 13:06Speaker 1: battery could go 35, 40 hours. It could go almost
- 13:10Speaker 1: a day and a half. So if you care about
- 13:13Speaker 1: battery life, if your battery is always running out, get
- 13:15Speaker 1: the 18. Much better. Hey, we were talking about this before.
- 13:19Speaker 1: celebrities leaving the United States. It's always a celebrity nobody
- 13:22Speaker 1: cares about. You remember that Rosie O'Donnell left the United
- 13:26Speaker 1: States for many, many months. Anybody notice? No. Did it
- 13:30Speaker 1: affect anybody? No. It's always somebody out of work who's
- 13:34Speaker 1: not doing anything. So the latest celebrity to leave is
- 13:36Speaker 1: Art Garfunkel. That's right. He's still alive. Art Garfunkel. He's
- 13:43Speaker 1: actually 84. He told the British publication The Guardian that
- 13:47Speaker 1: he is Because of the country's stance on key issues,
- 13:52Speaker 1: he's looking for another country to move to. Garfunkel expressed
- 13:57Speaker 1: concern about climate change. Remember, this guy's a singer who's
- 14:04Speaker 1: probably been stoned half his life, but he's concerned about
- 14:07Speaker 1: climate change. You see, you know, you might be saying, well,
- 14:11Speaker 1: there's climate change. Who would think they're kidding with this
- 14:13Speaker 1: climate change? A guy like Art Garfunkel is very concerned
- 14:16Speaker 1: about climate change. So he'll go to another country where
- 14:20Speaker 1: I guess he thinks they don't have climate change. Who
- 14:23Speaker 1: knows with him? He's concerned about international affairs and other
- 14:28Speaker 1: political issues. You see, you always get these guys, Garfunkel,
- 14:31Speaker 1: IQ of 90, maybe. It's a good singer. Good singer. Uh,
- 14:37Speaker 1: he said the planet is getting warmer. The water's rising.
- 14:41Speaker 1: We've been hearing this for 30 years. The water hasn't
- 14:43Speaker 1: done anything. It's basically the same. In fact, uh, you
- 14:49Speaker 1: check any weather, whatever weather we have, we have the
- 14:51Speaker 1: same exact weather at a million other points in history.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And he said, so many people are starving. What does
- 14:57Speaker 1: that have to do with politics? And why now? Why
- 15:01Speaker 1: does he leave me now? He said, now listen to this.
- 15:05Speaker 1: When Donald Trump took over Venezuela, I said to myself,
- 15:08Speaker 1: are these the new rules? Just take over a country
- 15:10Speaker 1: and run it? Well, apparently he's not familiar with how
- 15:13Speaker 1: that all came about. That was not what happened at all.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Not what happened at all. But he's leaving. I know
- 15:20Speaker 1: many people are upset. What are we going to do
- 15:22Speaker 1: without Art Garfunkel? Does he even do anything anymore? Has
- 15:25Speaker 1: he even performed in years? Did anybody know he was
- 15:28Speaker 1: still alive? You know, see, the other problem he has,
- 15:32Speaker 1: he used to be a big star. You know, you
- 15:34Speaker 1: could walk into a restaurant. Oh, yes, sir, Mr. Garfunkel. Now,
- 15:37Speaker 1: when he walks into a restaurant, the maitre d' is
- 15:39Speaker 1: always 30 years old and doesn't know who the hell
- 15:41Speaker 1: he is. And even if you told him, he wouldn't
- 15:43Speaker 1: know who the hell he is. It's His hits were
- 15:45Speaker 1: like 25 years before they were born. Anyway, we'll take
- 15:48Speaker 1: some calls next. 800-321-0710 is the number. We'll take some
- 15:54Speaker 1: calls next. We always love to hear from new callers.
- 15:56Speaker 2: 800-321-0710.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Mark Simone here on 710WOR.
