- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans welcome in to do wall daily presented by jingyag.com.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Lugo.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks so much for being here.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: It is Tuesday February 10th.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: We are officially less than a month away from the start of the legal tampering period, which is March 9th.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: which is really when you start hearing about contracts.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: So in this next month, we're going to hear about so many different things, whether it be some roster cuts from the Jaguars, other teams that might have surprise roster cuts that impact free agency.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: And you're going to hear about maybe some new contracts, right?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Devon Lloyd is a free agency.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: Travis ETN, Buster Brown,
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's going to be a really fun, you know, as soon as March hits, it's going to be on.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Basically.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: So over the next few weeks until we get there, we're still having to kind of.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: Talk about, free agency, talk about the draft, but I wanted to take a step away from that for this episode just because we've been talking so much about that stuff.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: And talk about areas, I think, that the Jaguar's offense really needs to improve and they improved in so many areas throughout the 20, 25 season.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they were an unbelievable offense down the stretch.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: They really were, they put up points against the bills,
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: They moved the ball well against the bills overall, especially down the stretch.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: They went into Denver and probably had the best offensive game against the Broncos that any team had this year.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: So they did some amazing things.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: And they were a team that at times was really good on the ground.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: They were a team that down the stretch after they got Jacobi Myers and Britain strange back.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they were a great passing team.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: But there's still were some areas that could definitely improve.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: There's three major areas I want to talk about.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then just some little tweaks here and there that I think could really help out in those areas too.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: The first one, I want to look at is balance.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think overall they were mostly well balanced this year.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I think part of that has to do with
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: in most games, the passing offense was really working.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: And most of the games after they got hot, the passing offense was absolutely cooking, it was.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so when you have an area of your offense, of your team, that is dominating basically, yeah, keep hitting that button, keep going to it.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: My issue is, and Liam Cohen still hasn't kind of addressed it in a way
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: He seems to not think that the game against the bills was called poorly offensively.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: And overall, I mean, you could say it wasn't because they were still moving the ball.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: They still scored twice in the fourth quarter to give the team a lead.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: But I think if they ran the ball more, they would have won that game.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think if they focused on running the ball more, they would have won the game for a couple reasons.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: A.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: I just mentioned when you have an area of your team that is clearly outperforming another area.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: The running game was clearly outperforming the passing game against the bills.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: You lean on that and they didn't lean on it enough in my opinion and then you also keep Josh Allen off the field and Josh Allen has ability to slice and dice you surgically and then also make plays.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's tough.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's tough to deal with.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: And so, giving your defense more of a rest, keeping Josh Allen off the field, and just going with what's dominating.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the Jack Wars were dominating on the ground.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: So, in games like that, even if you're like, well, our passing games will have us here, our Trevor Lawrence is our guy, we love Jacobi and Britain and Parker, and Brian Thomas and everybody, we trust it.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Go with what's working.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I also think that if you go into next season, teams are going to be smarter about how the Jack Wars are operating their passing game next year.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: And the Jacks are going to have to play that chess game, too.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have to change some things, right?
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: But they have got to, in my opinion, develop more of a consistent rushing attack than they'd had this year.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll be the first to tell you.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: down the stretch a lot of those games that they had poor rushing efforts was against really good run defenses.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about that a lot.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: However, I think that you've got to be able to turn that on a little bit more and they did against the bills of course who didn't have a very good run defense.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think you've got to be able to hit that switch that lever because teams are going to be prepared for the Jack Wars to be a passing attack in 2026.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's what teams are going to be thinking.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar is going to come out.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to try to throw the ball on us.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's what they did.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: And they're winning streak.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they did to get to the playoffs.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I think you saw the Seahawks had to be able to switch over and be a more run dominant team.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think Super Bowl teams do that.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Super Bowl teams have the ability to do that, depending on the match up, depending on the opponent, the situation.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I would like to see a more balanced team.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: Screens.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar's offense was atrocious when it came to the screen game, particularly the running back screens, like it felt like every time they went to run a running back screen, the entire defense knew that it was being run and there was just travel on to either dirting it or throwing it away or whatever, like there was just no cohesion there and for whatever reason they could
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why that is, but that was a big part of Liam Cohen's game as an offensive play collar before 2025.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you're able to add that easy button type of play into this offense, that could really help out a lot.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: The widersuit risk screen game as well, I think can be improved.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: You could see more jet sweeps, but you gotta have guys executing out on the edge in the blocking department and in the slot as well.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: for all these things to work.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they can with more seasoning, with more training in this offense, and with improved personnel, I think I've talked about it a lot.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to see another tight end added.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: that I think can be more effective and efficient consistent, both as a receiver and blocker, not more effective and efficient than Britain's strange, but then you're tied into currently.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that would be excellent.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, the screen game, if they can unlock that a little bit and just not be like the worst thing I've ever seen in the screen game, that could go a long way towards helping them out.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: stay in on schedule, creating explosives because the screen game can create explosives, can create chunk plays, and it can also just kind of be an extension of the run game in a lot of ways too.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, if they can get that going, that'd be huge.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: And then the final one is third and short execution, just wasn't very good in a lot of ways.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that there was times they showed improvement in that regard.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think they were pretty good overall on fourth down
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: Part of it, I think, is on third down a lot of situations.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like I got to have it.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: If you're past the 50, you probably know you're going for it.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: So that they knew that they had fourth down in their back pocket.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe creating that urgency somehow, I'm not sure.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think if you're able to improve third and short, that will go a long way.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: some things that the Jaguar's offense did improve on that they need to keep their foot on the gas is, you know, the drop department and part of that was getting Jacobi part of that was getting Britain back.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: Those guys just didn't drop the ball a ton.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: And Parker was very good for you in that regard as well.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: Travis C. T. N. basal to and and when B. T. J. came back from his injury like week 13, he only had one drop after that.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't targeted a ton.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't like a feature player in the
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: But he was more efficient.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: And if you can get that out of him and keep it on with the rest of those guys, I think that they're going to be in a good spot there, but that was an epidemic for the trackwars earlier on in the season and throughout a lot of the last several years, just dropping the football.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think they got a lot more cohesive on the offensive line.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Once COVID and landing took over at left tackle
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: Had he played, maybe the result would have been a little bit different for the passing game as well.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: But again, I just don't think you can go into 2026 and we're going to be able to do the same exact things we're doing in 2025, because these teams are too good.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: They're too well-coached.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: The coaches are going to figure things out.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: Scheme Thames up against your passing game.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be able to counter that, and you've also got to be able to, again, I think just be a more consistent rushing team and have a more consistent.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: you know desire to run the ball especially when it's working the way it was against the bills right so those are my three big things I think that one way the screen game can improve is is getting better athletes at guard honestly and center at gentleman times a great athlete I think eventually he's going to be a starting center
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's explosive, but he was as important as he was for a communication and leadership in all that.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think his play was pretty inconsistent this year overall.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was passing.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was winning, but I think you could get some better play, some more athleticism at some of those spots.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think that again the tight end to position could be so so much better and I think it needs to be that could be a big way for the Jaguar So take step forward to improve in the Screen game I just can't stop thinking about Johnny Mont absolutely doing nothing out there in the slot as a blocker He had an okay season as a blocker, but there was just some moments where he fell over matched in a big way But yeah, I
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of what I'm looking at for the Jaguar's offense.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: How they need to improve going into 2026.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: Personnel can be part of it.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think just coaching and time on task can be part of it.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: And then look, if you're running the damn ball, and you're running it well, don't take your foot off the gas.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: Keep Josh Allen off the field.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
