- 0:00Speaker 1: Tampa Bay's best music is Magia ninety four nine.
- 0:04Speaker 2: And welcome to another episode of Scotty and Abbey Unfiltered.
- 0:07Speaker 2: This one's exciting because with Tampa Bay being the growing
- 0:10Speaker 2: place that it is, there are so many things happening
- 0:13Speaker 2: in this community that it's cool that we get an
- 0:15Speaker 2: opportunity to now spotlight the good that's going around Tampa Bay.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I know it's growing so fast.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I feel like it's going to be a completely different
- 0:22Speaker 3: city in five years, just like five years ago was
- 0:24Speaker 3: completely different every five years, every decade or so.
- 0:27Speaker 2: It's so true. And that's why literally today's episode is
- 0:30Speaker 2: really spotlighting one of the things coming to give you
- 0:32Speaker 2: a little more awareness of it. And so we brought
- 0:34Speaker 2: in a very special guest. And here's what's fun about you, Akash.
- 0:39Speaker 2: There are so many people that know you. People are
- 0:43Speaker 2: gonna be like, wait. Literally I was on the phone
- 0:44Speaker 2: yesterday with a friend and they're like, wait, I saw
- 0:47Speaker 2: you know a Cash. I was like, yeah, I know
- 0:48Speaker 2: a cause you know a Kash. You are the most
- 0:51Speaker 2: popular dude in Tampa Bay and I will say the
- 0:55Speaker 2: king of networking throughout the Tampa Bay area. So kudos
- 0:58Speaker 2: to you. Is an honor to have you in podcast
- 1:00Speaker 2: right now. Thank you both.
- 1:02Speaker 4: I appreciate it, But I mean I feel the same
- 1:03Speaker 4: way about you guys.
- 1:04Speaker 5: This is an honor to be here and here celebrities,
- 1:06Speaker 5: so it's honored to be in the presence of ID
- 1:08Speaker 5: not even.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Give us that we're on a list, but not.
- 1:14Speaker 5: When I walked in the green room a few weeks
- 1:15Speaker 5: ago and Scott's in the green room prepping at the
- 1:17Speaker 5: Fox thirteen, I'm like, Met's see, I'm always in the
- 1:19Speaker 5: presidents of greatness, you know.
- 1:20Speaker 2: The same circles. Well, what's super cool is that you
- 1:23Speaker 2: get to do so much for Tampa Bay. And one
- 1:25Speaker 2: of the things is how you work closely with talk
- 1:29Speaker 2: about it aless celebrity Baker Mayfield. And that's kind of
- 1:32Speaker 2: the reason why we wanted to even start this conversation
- 1:34Speaker 2: is because I was just watching Netflix and they have
- 1:36Speaker 2: this whole series it's called Quarterback.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Great show.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I love it, and the last one had Baker Mayfield
- 1:42Speaker 2: on there. That's the whole reason I started watching it.
- 1:44Speaker 2: And in the show they talk about the foundation that
- 1:48Speaker 2: you're literally here to talk about, and I was like,
- 1:50Speaker 2: what a weird crossover Because I was just watching what
- 1:52Speaker 2: this looked like. So go ahead and give us the
- 1:54Speaker 2: update on what is coming up in Tampa Bay. How
- 1:57Speaker 2: you even got connected to Baker Mayfield.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Well, it's a great story.
- 2:00Speaker 5: So I personally have been in Tampa for two decades
- 2:04Speaker 5: and I've been wanting to volunteer in organizations that are
- 2:07Speaker 5: dealing with education and children. That's important to me. So
- 2:09Speaker 5: in twenty fourteen, Governor Rick Scott, then Governor Rick Scott
- 2:12Speaker 5: now Senator appointed me to chair the Early Learning Coalition
- 2:15Speaker 5: in Hillsborough County And basically that board overseas volunteered pre kindergarten.
- 2:19Speaker 5: But the Baker and Emily Mayfield story is when they go.
- 2:22Speaker 4: To a city.
- 2:23Speaker 5: I mean, he's been in several cities where he's played,
- 2:25Speaker 5: and so of course highlights that they also want to
- 2:28Speaker 5: get back to the community to serve. So they actually
- 2:31Speaker 5: have a foundation and they choose three to four nonprofits
- 2:34Speaker 5: a year. And he let's call it like maybe he
- 2:37Speaker 5: started in July, looking July of the year before he
- 2:40Speaker 5: started even playing a game with the Bucks, and in
- 2:43Speaker 5: August of the before he even started a regular season
- 2:46Speaker 5: game with the Bucks, he called the Early Learning Coalition.
- 2:48Speaker 5: His office called the Early Learning coalition in Hillsborough County
- 2:50Speaker 5: and choose us to be the nonprofit benefactor for his
- 2:54Speaker 5: first ever Tampa event called b the Ball. And now
- 2:56Speaker 5: this August thirtieth coming up in a few weeks, here
- 2:59Speaker 5: is our fourth and you'll be the Ball where we've
- 3:01Speaker 5: raised hundreds of thousand dollars for and they've raised the
- 3:03Speaker 5: money and given it to us, so we're the benefactor.
- 3:05Speaker 5: And if you watch episode two in season three of
- 3:08Speaker 5: The Quarterback, you'll see Baker and Emily at Top Golf
- 3:12Speaker 5: talking about the early only collotionals we're cutting.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that. I was like, wait a second,
- 3:15Speaker 2: the cash that's the event that you're talking about. I
- 3:17Speaker 2: just watched the episode. That is so cool because I
- 3:20Speaker 2: love that. Yes, the game is important, and what a
- 3:23Speaker 2: lot of these athletes have done which is so cool
- 3:25Speaker 2: is that they go beyond the game. It's we have
- 3:27Speaker 2: so many eyes on us or are on athletes that
- 3:31Speaker 2: if you take that platform, you could do so much good.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And because of that show, I already love Baker Mayfield,
- 3:38Speaker 2: but because of that show, I love them even more
- 3:40Speaker 2: and his family because of what they do to the community.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Just like what you're.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Saying and what's really cool is they didn't have kids
- 3:45Speaker 5: at the time, so when I was talking to him
- 3:46Speaker 5: and explaining what we do, they were just new to Tampa.
- 3:49Speaker 4: They didn't have any kids.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Now they have two young kids, so now they actually
- 3:52Speaker 5: know of Vpka's because their kids are going about to
- 3:54Speaker 5: interview kay M.
- 3:55Speaker 2: That is so cool.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and this is a really sick event.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I mean it's top golf and you said there's going
- 3:59Speaker 3: to be all kinds of celebs there, So I'm assuming
- 4:02Speaker 3: you've been for all four runs.
- 4:04Speaker 5: For one year, I was traveling, but I've been at
- 4:07Speaker 5: two of the three, two of three, and I'll be
- 4:08Speaker 5: out the fourth one. And last year we were literally
- 4:11Speaker 5: just at one of the bays playing golf and Cuba
- 4:13Speaker 5: getting junior walks in.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 4:15Speaker 5: I was in toown film in a movie and heard
- 4:17Speaker 5: a new baker somehow and showed up.
- 4:19Speaker 4: So like, you never know who's going to show up.
- 4:21Speaker 3: What's it like to bump elbows with people that are
- 4:23Speaker 3: just very casually famous. You got to keep it cool,
- 4:25Speaker 3: you got it, like this is normal running these people
- 4:28Speaker 3: all the time.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Just casual conversations. So I had a conversation like where
- 4:31Speaker 5: are you going to go to lunchor what are you
- 4:32Speaker 5: doing here? Asking about the movies. But what's really cool
- 4:35Speaker 5: is they all love the Tambay community because of the
- 4:37Speaker 5: reason we talked about.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, exactly, And I'm sure they get to experience
- 4:40Speaker 3: a lot of the restaurants that we love. Where do
- 4:43Speaker 3: you find that, like a lot of the upper upper
- 4:46Speaker 3: resural people like to go for lunch or dinner, Like,
- 4:48Speaker 3: where are they going out to dinner and stuff?
- 4:50Speaker 5: I think, well, I think for most of the people
- 4:52Speaker 5: that google Tampa that Columbia restaurant and Burns always comes out.
- 4:55Speaker 2: They always want to go, Yeah, you.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Know, Columby's the oldest restaurant in the state of Florida.
- 4:58Speaker 5: Burns just like the large wine cellar the nation. So
- 5:00Speaker 5: people know those. But then you find people that actually
- 5:02Speaker 5: they know about Water Street and.
- 5:06Speaker 4: They know about the Saint Pete downtown.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Yes, downtown Saint Pete. I feel like is catching so
- 5:10Speaker 3: much attention for good reason. Because even my family who's
- 5:13Speaker 3: lived here like their entire lives, like they grew up
- 5:15Speaker 3: in Lithia, went to New Some high school. I took
- 5:18Speaker 3: them to downtown Saint Pete for the first time. They're like,
- 5:20Speaker 3: we had no idea this was here. I'm like this,
- 5:21Speaker 3: it's literally over the bridge.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 5: And people talk about the annoy because people do know thenoy.
- 5:26Speaker 5: But people forget elliot astras and the annoying and people
- 5:28Speaker 5: love led us.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Uh huh, that is very cool.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I have still yet to go all.
- 5:32Speaker 4: We got to get you the Scott, I.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Know, I know.
- 5:34Speaker 2: You open my eyes to so many new places. Though,
- 5:37Speaker 2: And I will say, because I've lived here now for
- 5:39Speaker 2: eleven years, as soon as I gotten around these circles,
- 5:42Speaker 2: I was like, wait a second, I didn't know about
- 5:44Speaker 2: these new bars or new restaurants for you. What have
- 5:47Speaker 2: been the spots that like, you're happy that they're now
- 5:49Speaker 2: getting the recognition that they deserve in the Tampa or
- 5:52Speaker 2: Saint Pete area, Because I feel like, I don't know
- 5:54Speaker 2: when you sleep a cash I'll be honest, it just
- 5:57Speaker 2: seems like you do. It seems like you're always on
- 5:59Speaker 2: the move. So what are the places for you that
- 6:01Speaker 2: you're like, all right, someone's coming into town. These are
- 6:03Speaker 2: the places maybe of ken I recommend the Columbia. I
- 6:06Speaker 2: do the Burns as well. I love those spots. What
- 6:08Speaker 2: are the other spots that you're like, wait a second,
- 6:10Speaker 2: if you haven't heard. You might not gotten the word yet.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Let me put you onto these places. Well, I think
- 6:15Speaker 2: you know you and I've talked about Sapphire. It's a
- 6:16Speaker 2: new spot that Ibby and I've been to too. You've
- 6:19Speaker 2: been there as well with your girlfriend. I know she's
- 6:20Speaker 2: ole her birthday there.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Happy people lated birthday to Brienna, so of course, but
- 6:24Speaker 5: that opened in May and that kind of changed the
- 6:26Speaker 5: structure of where elegant people get tressed up, go out
- 6:29Speaker 5: and have a safe space. So that's been a great
- 6:31Speaker 5: summer addition. It's newer, but people are still learning about it,
- 6:35Speaker 5: but it's kind of very social because now we're on
- 6:37Speaker 5: the social media trends. And then I still love Hyde
- 6:39Speaker 5: Park Village. I mean, Timpano is still a staple. I
- 6:41Speaker 5: went there a few weeks ago. I mean, just just
- 6:43Speaker 5: a great catchup place on a Tuesday. It was busy, That's.
- 6:46Speaker 2: What's so wild. I went out to Hyde Park because
- 6:48Speaker 2: I'm on the same Pete side, so I live the
- 6:51Speaker 2: same Pete lifestyle. Very rarely do you get me over
- 6:54Speaker 2: the bridge. And that's the one thing that did was
- 6:56Speaker 2: the Sapphire. You're like, you gotta come out of the
- 6:58Speaker 2: Sapphire and you were so spot on with that. That
- 7:00Speaker 2: was everything that you and Abbey talked about. I was like, Wow,
- 7:03Speaker 2: this is what we've been waiting for. But when I'm
- 7:05Speaker 2: running around Saint Pete, I'm just, you know, getlounting on
- 7:08Speaker 2: the same spots that I go to. And it's very
- 7:10Speaker 2: cool to show people these new spots because you get
- 7:13Speaker 2: so in routine of we go out to dinner. Like
- 7:16Speaker 2: one of my favorite places is the Savvion Winelocker in
- 7:18Speaker 2: Saint Pete. I go there a few times. I'm like,
- 7:20Speaker 2: I know it's good. I like the environment, but what
- 7:24Speaker 2: I love is that new places are catching on where
- 7:26Speaker 2: the environment and what you bring and what people dress
- 7:30Speaker 2: that's almost just as important as the food because we're
- 7:33Speaker 2: so used to walking around. And Abby noticed this as
- 7:35Speaker 2: soon as she started coming more to Tampa, like people
- 7:38Speaker 2: were just dressed so casually, which I'm a fan of.
- 7:41Speaker 3: But I feel like people are stepping it up though,
- 7:43Speaker 3: Like I've noticed ever since I've moved here, it does
- 7:45Speaker 3: feel like more of an occasion.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And maybe it's because I've been going to the.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Sapphire a lot, where it feels like there's an expectation,
- 7:51Speaker 3: Like when you go out, you're going to be seen,
- 7:53Speaker 3: so dress expected to be seen by people.
- 7:57Speaker 2: It is a very busy lifestyle right now, with how
- 8:00Speaker 2: how much there is to do when and what do
- 8:02Speaker 2: you do when you actually take a day off a
- 8:04Speaker 2: cock because we could go some like some of the
- 8:06Speaker 2: things that you've done in Tampa Bay are extraordinary. It
- 8:09Speaker 2: is truly so cool to see everything you do. What
- 8:12Speaker 2: is like your kick back like you're not working? What
- 8:14Speaker 2: is your activity level looking like?
- 8:16Speaker 4: Well, it's funny.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I think I've laid on the trend, but I've gotten
- 8:18Speaker 5: into pickup ball. I play actually, even though I live
- 8:20Speaker 5: in Tampa, I played Saint Pete Athletic a lot across
- 8:23Speaker 5: the bridge for pickle ball because I've got a good
- 8:25Speaker 5: social It's a social sport in general. But you know,
- 8:27Speaker 5: you meet people and then I have a bunch of
- 8:28Speaker 5: friends that are members, so I can hang out with
- 8:30Speaker 5: them and play. But and then just kind of relax
- 8:32Speaker 5: and kind of get ready for you know, re energize
- 8:34Speaker 5: for the week. There's always at least two or three
- 8:37Speaker 5: cool network events going on, and then I prepare one
- 8:39Speaker 5: once a month. I know Abby's been to Noodles networking.
- 8:41Speaker 5: We've been doing and then and long on short of
- 8:43Speaker 5: it is it's like, you know, people always told me
- 8:46Speaker 5: Tampa was going to be hip. I sort of my
- 8:48Speaker 5: company fourteen years ago, and now we're hip, and it's
- 8:50Speaker 5: kind of cool.
- 8:51Speaker 4: It's like kind of cool to see it happen.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Right, you're here still, like you don't leave and you
- 8:55Speaker 5: could have left in those eleven years because.
- 8:57Speaker 4: That hip ten years ago.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Like literally, I remember when I got put
- 9:00Speaker 2: at USF. I was coming across the state and all
- 9:02Speaker 2: my friends were going to FSU and Gainesville and Orlando.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yeah, we're representing kind of the three main universe. We're
- 9:10Speaker 3: missing like a USF REP. But like I'm Florida, you Asu,
- 9:14Speaker 3: you went to us F.
- 9:15Speaker 2: They all rep in different corners of it. But I
- 9:18Speaker 2: did love when I came over here. I was like
- 9:20Speaker 2: the one of two and everyone's like, why are you
- 9:22Speaker 2: going to Tampa. I'm like, man, let me just go
- 9:26Speaker 2: live my life now. All those friends are moved right
- 9:28Speaker 2: over to Tampa and.
- 9:30Speaker 5: Was getting a football stadium, like the one thing you
- 9:32Speaker 5: didn't know we got the local Stateum no, you're getting one.
- 9:34Speaker 1: To a second, but it's getting there.
- 9:36Speaker 2: It's getting there very bittersweet because that's like all my Like,
- 9:39Speaker 2: I wanted that so bad. I will get season tickets
- 9:41Speaker 2: when that stadium is up, Like I will be a party.
- 9:43Speaker 4: We'll go to a game. I'll go with you. I
- 9:45Speaker 4: will go with you.
- 9:46Speaker 3: I love that you guys are embracing it, though, because
- 9:48Speaker 3: I the narrative I hate is people who are mad
- 9:50Speaker 3: at transplants coming because I understand it, it boosts the
- 9:53Speaker 3: cost of rent, but like rent is expensive everywhere. But
- 9:56Speaker 3: I feel like the fact that we have so many transplants,
- 9:58Speaker 3: and I guess I'm technically a trans I like to
- 10:00Speaker 3: say I'm like half transplant because my family's here and
- 10:03Speaker 3: I've been coming here my whole life, so I'm like
- 10:05Speaker 3: a habsie.
- 10:06Speaker 4: But well, you were in Atlanta, so we'll just give you,
- 10:08Speaker 4: you know for ten years years.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I'm from Jacksonville. I went to Florida.
- 10:13Speaker 3: So I love that you guys are embracing the fact that, like,
- 10:16Speaker 3: transplants allow us to have these exciting things like Water Street,
- 10:20Speaker 3: And if we didn't have so many people moving to Tampa,
- 10:23Speaker 3: we wouldn't have places like the Stapphire wanting to open
- 10:25Speaker 3: because you know, the crowd wouldn't be as big or
- 10:28Speaker 3: wouldn't be coming from cosmopolitan places that were going to
- 10:30Speaker 3: kind of up the anti for people to want to
- 10:32Speaker 3: dress up and make it an event.
- 10:35Speaker 1: To go out.
- 10:36Speaker 2: It's so true. I mean, because people have moved here
- 10:38Speaker 2: and because we've become so popular, we now get all
- 10:41Speaker 2: the nice things. Yes, we have that big city lifestyle.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I want to jump back to the Baker and Emily
- 10:46Speaker 2: Foundation because it's coming up and I know there's going
- 10:48Speaker 2: to be some people that are like, wait a second.
- 10:50Speaker 2: You guys talked about it so casually. It's at Top Golf, Like.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Can we go? Where does the money go towards?
- 10:56Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:56Speaker 2: Like what does your boy got to do to go
- 10:58Speaker 2: over to Top Golf and hang out with Baker?
- 10:59Speaker 5: And we got to talk about it. It's August thirtieth,
- 11:02Speaker 5: it's from one to five pm. You can still purchase tickets.
- 11:06Speaker 5: We have information on our website ELCCHC dot org, which
- 11:10Speaker 5: is Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County and then of
- 11:12Speaker 5: course Baker Emily Mayfield Foundation. They're the ones that are
- 11:14Speaker 5: administering the whole process. But what I love, like I said,
- 11:18Speaker 5: is we had Emily Mayfield read to children right after
- 11:22Speaker 5: the first event. I mean, they give there's so much
- 11:25Speaker 5: of their time. They choose other nonprofits to their foundation.
- 11:27Speaker 5: But the Early Learning Coalition, you know, what happens is
- 11:30Speaker 5: we were funded by our state legislature and every year,
- 11:33Speaker 5: as you know, costs have gone off for everything yep,
- 11:35Speaker 5: and our budget we haven't gotten comp but we've been
- 11:36Speaker 5: saying neutral and then unfortunately childcare is expensive that part yep.
- 11:41Speaker 5: So they're offsetting a really important budget item for doesn't
- 11:46Speaker 5: matter your you know, your income level. Everyone deserves the
- 11:50Speaker 5: quality of access to education and so that's why it's
- 11:52Speaker 5: so important. It's life changing. And we are the Early
- 11:54Speaker 5: Learning Coalition in Hillsborough, but now's has one. There's about
- 11:56Speaker 5: thirty coalitions throughout the state. I've been blessed to be
- 11:58Speaker 5: the cheer for twelve years. We were great board of
- 12:00Speaker 5: directors and so my role is to make sure that
- 12:04Speaker 5: the business community, which you guys are business leaders, I
- 12:06Speaker 5: don't review that.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah, however, you're the first person to tell us.
- 12:10Speaker 4: That and won't be the last.
- 12:12Speaker 5: So and understand what we do and why it's important because,
- 12:16Speaker 5: as you know, learning to read is so important. It's
- 12:17Speaker 5: the first three years of read childhood development, and we
- 12:20Speaker 5: are having a summit in September at the end of
- 12:22Speaker 5: the end of September and twenty fourth at the Motor Enclave,
- 12:24Speaker 5: which I love for you guys to be at my table.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, give us a beat.
- 12:28Speaker 5: So Tember twenty fourth, it's a lunchtime at the Motor Enclave.
- 12:31Speaker 5: I'm intown and it's it's the middle of the week
- 12:33Speaker 5: and we're having just leaders come and talk about why
- 12:36Speaker 5: early learning education is so important and so this Baker
- 12:40Speaker 5: and Emily Mayfield kind of we didn't know we were
- 12:41Speaker 5: going to get selected again, you know, you know, we
- 12:43Speaker 5: were hoping and it kind of fell perfectly. August started
- 12:45Speaker 5: this their event that's going to be where the benefactors,
- 12:47Speaker 5: and then September twenty fourth is the Coalitions event.
- 12:50Speaker 2: That's so cool, And I think one of the good
- 12:51Speaker 2: things that you all do is you've done such a
- 12:53Speaker 2: good job of showing people, like when they go out
- 12:56Speaker 2: to the events, like what the money actually does, because
- 12:59Speaker 2: obviously there are so many options for where people could
- 13:02Speaker 2: donate or where people could volunteer, but so many times
- 13:06Speaker 2: you give that money, you're like, uh, did it do anything?
- 13:09Speaker 2: What does it look like for somebody that's like, Okay,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I donated to this fund. How do they see that
- 13:15Speaker 2: direct effect? Like do you have examples of like maybe
- 13:17Speaker 2: people that you've worked with their families that have been impacted.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Absolutely, So every dollar you invest in early learning, seven
- 13:22Speaker 5: dollars comes back in the community. And that's for like
- 13:24Speaker 5: you talk about like safety, right, Like one of the
- 13:27Speaker 5: things that I always tell people is that there are
- 13:29Speaker 5: certain states.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Were not one of them.
- 13:31Speaker 5: But if depending on your third grade reading level score,
- 13:35Speaker 5: which is how you measure successful graduation rates, that's how
- 13:38Speaker 5: many prison cells you built into that state.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Wow.
- 13:41Speaker 5: So this is an economic issue, this is a safety issue.
- 13:44Speaker 5: People are more likely to not graduate, go to gangs.
- 13:47Speaker 5: I mean, it's just it's just incredible.
- 13:49Speaker 2: That's Like one of the things I'm so passionate about
- 13:51Speaker 2: is I speak around to schools all throughout Tampa Bay,
- 13:54Speaker 2: and you're very motivating.
- 13:55Speaker 4: I love life your stuff, but thank you.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I'm so passionate about it because I do believe in
- 14:00Speaker 2: giving a student the vision and having them have a
- 14:03Speaker 2: plan for where they're going. Because I do understand like
- 14:05Speaker 2: for so many students, and I was the student, like
- 14:08Speaker 2: you show up at class and like, why the heck
- 14:10Speaker 2: am I here? Why does this matter is this even
- 14:13Speaker 2: going to pay off in the long run? And what
- 14:15Speaker 2: I love is that I go in and I help
- 14:17Speaker 2: them create that blueprint to their ultimate life where it's like,
- 14:19Speaker 2: here's why it matters. Like maybe you're not the biggest
- 14:21Speaker 2: fan of math, but you might be the biggest fan
- 14:23Speaker 2: of eventually going off to college and then stepping into
- 14:26Speaker 2: your dream career. And this is just one of the
- 14:28Speaker 2: steps that you have to do. But you got to
- 14:30Speaker 2: give people the access. You got to be sure that
- 14:32Speaker 2: these kids and these students have the opportunity to be
- 14:35Speaker 2: able to be in an environment where they could truly learn,
- 14:38Speaker 2: grow and thrive.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Seventy to eighty percent of people of students sorry, children
- 14:42Speaker 5: that graduate from VPK are ready to They're more likely
- 14:45Speaker 5: be ready for kindergarten, and so that's how you know
- 14:48Speaker 5: they're going to graduate.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Wow, that just speaks to volumes. And because of these foundations,
- 14:54Speaker 2: you're able to see that impact.
- 14:55Speaker 5: And Hillsborough County, as you know, has over one point
- 14:57Speaker 5: six million residents. We serve our dealition serves twenty or
- 15:01Speaker 5: thirty thousand students and children a year.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Oh, isn't it one of the biggest school districts in
- 15:06Speaker 3: the nation, like it's like the seventh largest or something
- 15:08Speaker 3: crazy like.
- 15:09Speaker 5: That, seventh largest by by school size. We have over
- 15:11Speaker 5: two hundred and fifty schools, I think or something like that.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Insane.
- 15:14Speaker 5: And you know, you know, we are the third largest
- 15:16Speaker 5: coalition that state, behind Miami, Dada and Palm Beach. We're
- 15:19Speaker 5: always three or four, you know, And that's that's important
- 15:22Speaker 5: to note because I mean, you want to know, just
- 15:24Speaker 5: like your point, there's so many nonprofits support. Right, We're
- 15:26Speaker 5: a state agency, so we are in a weird spot.
- 15:29Speaker 5: We get money from LEGISLATUIP, but it's not enough.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And the more obviously that you get in, the more
- 15:33Speaker 2: lives that are impacted. That's the biggest thing here. And
- 15:36Speaker 2: that's why I love that they jumped in their helping
- 15:38Speaker 2: as well. I do want to go to the personal
- 15:40Speaker 2: side of you do a cosh because obviously as soon
- 15:42Speaker 2: as I met you, I was like, Wow, this man's everywhere,
- 15:44Speaker 2: this man's got a drive.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true.
- 15:48Speaker 3: That's where his big break was to get the company
- 15:50Speaker 3: that he built fourteen years ago.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Did you guys see the video of him on Bay Shore?
- 15:54Speaker 2: Well, let me go ahead and ask, so what is
- 15:56Speaker 2: your drive though? Like, what is your why that actually
- 15:59Speaker 2: kicked all this off? Because I was looking at all
- 16:00Speaker 2: the things that you've done and been a part of it.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I'm like, that takes so much energy and effort, and
- 16:05Speaker 2: probably so many times you're just hating against the wall,
- 16:07Speaker 2: hating against the wall, and eventually you break through. Like
- 16:10Speaker 2: when did this drive start for you?
- 16:12Speaker 5: And what was actually the spark that kicked it all off?
- 16:15Speaker 5: Great question, Thank you for asking. It was right around
- 16:18Speaker 5: the time I was probably laid off for graduate college,
- 16:21Speaker 5: bounced around a couple of different jobs, and I was
- 16:22Speaker 5: laid off for one of my jobs because of the recession.
- 16:24Speaker 5: Right the economy tanks where the first thing get well
- 16:26Speaker 5: goes marketing. I'm a marketing guy, and I said, you
- 16:29Speaker 5: know what, I don't want that feeling anymore. So my
- 16:31Speaker 5: friends were like, well, you like Tampa. But I'm like, yeah,
- 16:33Speaker 5: but I'm not. I was renting at the time, you
- 16:35Speaker 5: know whatever. It wasn't but my family here. But I
- 16:37Speaker 5: was like, I'm going to bet on Tampa. And so
- 16:40Speaker 5: my whole point is if I'm going to bet on
- 16:41Speaker 5: a city to live here, to start a business here,
- 16:45Speaker 5: I didn't make it where I can have fun.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Ah.
- 16:47Speaker 5: So I was like, we're gonna join organizations, we're gonna volunteer,
- 16:50Speaker 5: and I'm going to meet some fun people.
- 16:51Speaker 4: And that's where you guys came in and.
- 16:54Speaker 5: What an honor and then create fun events And that's
- 16:56Speaker 5: why I created, you know, helped create noodles and networking
- 16:58Speaker 5: or before I was creating a lot, I mean, and
- 17:01Speaker 5: we put together friends Group, friends of Saffire. I'm like,
- 17:03Speaker 5: I'm like, if I'm having fund, let me bring in
- 17:05Speaker 5: just like you're very guys inclusive. You guys are very inclusive,
- 17:07Speaker 5: bring everyone together.
- 17:08Speaker 2: That's so cool. And I love to see where people's
- 17:10Speaker 2: drive starts because I think we all have that within
- 17:13Speaker 2: us and we just got to find the thing that
- 17:14Speaker 2: really lights us up. And you have nailed it when
- 17:17Speaker 2: it comes to being a master networker. When you talk
- 17:19Speaker 2: to people out and you go out and Tampa and
- 17:21Speaker 2: they're like, oh do you know that boom? You're always
- 17:23Speaker 2: the common link And I think that speaks volumes because
- 17:26Speaker 2: that's a skill. And I do want to point out
- 17:28Speaker 2: because Abby and I have talked about this so many times,
- 17:30Speaker 2: and you go out through the events or you go
- 17:31Speaker 2: out to run clubs, like, for you, what are the
- 17:34Speaker 2: things that you maybe have learned or that you have
- 17:36Speaker 2: used that are like, these are good skills that have
- 17:39Speaker 2: helped me network, that have helped me make connections. Are
- 17:42Speaker 2: there like actual tangible things that you've learned or is
- 17:44Speaker 2: this always who you were? No?
- 17:46Speaker 5: I think I mean you know this too because you
- 17:48Speaker 5: talk to so many people. I have to do instant
- 17:50Speaker 5: follow up. So if I meet someone like I'm you
- 17:53Speaker 5: know what, we go to the Moxey pool party or
- 17:55Speaker 5: we go to one of those you know, the run
- 17:56Speaker 5: clubs or whatever, and I say, hey, let meet your
- 17:58Speaker 5: Instagram or my email whatever, and I say, I'm gonna
- 18:00Speaker 5: invit you to Noodles and Networking or the Sapphire to
- 18:03Speaker 5: come check it out on a special DJ night. I
- 18:06Speaker 5: have to do it with twenty four hours cause and
- 18:08Speaker 5: they have to get respond within twenty four hours because
- 18:11Speaker 5: like people a short your.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Memory loss, right, Yes, you're gonna forget who you talked to.
- 18:14Speaker 5: You talked to so they probably got twelve Instagram accounts
- 18:16Speaker 5: and I'm probably the least more, you know so, and
- 18:19Speaker 5: I like got to be hey, this is the guy instantly,
- 18:21Speaker 5: or take a selfie and send it them right away.
- 18:23Speaker 2: That's such a good thing I had a buddy that
- 18:25Speaker 2: did that all the time, and I was like, why
- 18:26Speaker 2: are you doing that? Oh, because you now have the
- 18:28Speaker 2: name and the face, and so anytime you see them,
- 18:30Speaker 2: it's not a who is it? Nope, it's right there
- 18:32Speaker 2: on your phone. They have an entire note made out
- 18:34Speaker 2: for that. That's genius.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Well, I think also a really great example of what
- 18:37Speaker 3: a great networker you are is not just the fact
- 18:39Speaker 3: that you can network for yourself, but you're so great
- 18:41Speaker 3: at connecting other people to Like at the last noodles
- 18:44Speaker 3: and networking event that I went to is at Ja Luigi,
- 18:47Speaker 3: and I showed up like thirty minutes after it started,
- 18:49Speaker 3: thinking well, I'm just gonna mosey in and like I'll
- 18:51Speaker 3: just like I walk in. It is freaking packed, and
- 18:54Speaker 3: I'm like I don't know where to go. Instantly, like
- 18:57Speaker 3: you appeared out of nowhere. You're like freaking Houdini. You're like, hell,
- 19:00Speaker 3: let me introduce you to this person, this person. And
- 19:02Speaker 3: then I got to meet some of your real estate
- 19:04Speaker 3: friends that are around my same age. One of them
- 19:07Speaker 3: came on base on Bayshore and I was like, oh
- 19:09Speaker 3: my god, thank god a cash was there, because otherwise
- 19:11Speaker 3: I as somebody with social anxiety would have walked in
- 19:14Speaker 3: and like, I think we're I'll leave now because I'm scared.
- 19:17Speaker 3: There's so many people. So you're so great at that.
- 19:19Speaker 3: And I think that's a tribute to ay how good
- 19:22Speaker 3: you are at business, but be good you are at
- 19:24Speaker 3: relationships as well.
- 19:25Speaker 5: I appreciate It's all yeah, and you do this all
- 19:26Speaker 5: the Time's goal setting, right, So I tell people, if
- 19:28Speaker 5: you're not here to socialize with the friends, you know
- 19:31Speaker 5: meeting new people, So try to meet at least five
- 19:33Speaker 5: new people.
- 19:34Speaker 4: I try to meet five two.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yeah exactly. I think that's the goal you go in there.
- 19:37Speaker 2: But like Gabby said, like some of us do face
- 19:40Speaker 2: that little bit of social anxiety. Is that an emotion
- 19:42Speaker 2: that you understand or you've had to deal with or
- 19:45Speaker 2: are there things that you've used that have helped you
- 19:48Speaker 2: get through that? Like if you're showing up, let's say,
- 19:50Speaker 2: what is it August seventeenth, the Noodle's and networking showing
- 19:52Speaker 2: up and you're like, ah, I'm a little nervous and
- 19:55Speaker 2: I know a cash to talk to five people?
- 19:57Speaker 5: Like what do you do in that moment? Like what
- 19:58Speaker 5: is your thought process that I like, like with I'd
- 20:00Speaker 5: grabber over here, say hey, meet these three people. You
- 20:03Speaker 5: guys are both in the same area of reliving or
- 20:05Speaker 5: whatever I know in common, and then I'll just kind
- 20:07Speaker 5: of walk away. Once you break the ice, I think
- 20:09Speaker 5: I can. You know, you guys can do create on
- 20:10Speaker 5: your own. But sometimes it's just that initial push. And
- 20:12Speaker 5: someone gave me that initial push. When I was starting
- 20:14Speaker 5: my business. You were talking about rejection people. I mean,
- 20:17Speaker 5: I got rejected one hundred times before I got my
- 20:19Speaker 5: first client.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Yeah it was your first client.
- 20:22Speaker 5: It's a I was a buddy mine owns an insurance
- 20:24Speaker 5: agency and in in North Tampa, and and I was
- 20:27Speaker 5: just like, listen, I just need to win.
- 20:28Speaker 4: I need to I need to win.
- 20:30Speaker 5: And he's like, well, I'll give you a shot because
- 20:31Speaker 5: I like your energy. Plus you don't you don't say
- 20:33Speaker 5: no very well, so like, let's just keep it going.
- 20:37Speaker 3: But it's crazy how much that's grown. So, for example,
- 20:39Speaker 3: a cash represents pop up bagels. Everybody we know loves
- 20:42Speaker 3: pop Yeah he did, Okay, he didn't just drop off
- 20:46Speaker 3: like three bagels. We got a freaking thirty pack with
- 20:49Speaker 3: like seven different tubs of shmears. I was dealing bagels
- 20:53Speaker 3: out of my townhouse for like four days to my
- 20:56Speaker 3: entire family. I was like, I have a Sea Salt one,
- 20:57Speaker 3: I have a plane one. And then I love Bacon
- 21:00Speaker 3: Babes on Davis Islands. I walked in there and I
- 21:02Speaker 3: think I met the owner because she gave me. Yeah,
- 21:05Speaker 3: she was like, oh, we love your Instagram and she
- 21:06Speaker 3: gave me like a free cookie or something, and I
- 21:08Speaker 3: was like, shut up.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I was like, I'm connected.
- 21:11Speaker 4: I'd like food as well.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I just learned, Oh my god, like the greatest food.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I'm a big foodie. I'm a big foodie, a big big.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Alcohol galto I love a bed, but I love a
- 21:19Speaker 3: cocktail and I love music. So like the DJs at
- 21:22Speaker 3: Sapphire have been killer. So yeah, I mean, I so
- 21:26Speaker 3: wish i could go to the Baker Mayfield event. I'm
- 21:28Speaker 3: going to be in Texas actually that weekend, but I'm
- 21:30Speaker 3: sure that's going to be a party as well.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that's going to replace me.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I'm so down. When I saw that on Netflix, I
- 21:35Speaker 2: was like I want to be there, and then you're like, wait,
- 21:37Speaker 2: we literally run that event. I'm like, oh my god,
- 21:39Speaker 2: I'm going to be there. That is so cool and
- 21:41Speaker 2: I'm sure that They're going to absolutely love that people
- 21:43Speaker 2: are out there supporting their events. So you could obviously
- 21:45Speaker 2: get a bay, you could be there at the event
- 21:47Speaker 2: to support. That's the biggest thing that we want people
- 21:49Speaker 2: to see. But are there highlights that people could see
- 21:51Speaker 2: from the past? Is there on an Instagram page or
- 21:54Speaker 2: something people could follow along? Because one of the cool
- 21:56Speaker 2: things about this podcast is so many of the people
- 21:59Speaker 2: have followed along with Abbey's journey, and so they're all
- 22:01Speaker 2: over the country and they want to be a part
- 22:04Speaker 2: of the story to see how it's impacting.
- 22:06Speaker 5: Where could people go check all that out? Yeah, ELCHC
- 22:09Speaker 5: dot org is our website. We have all of our
- 22:11Speaker 5: early on in Collitionals County social media, Baker and Emily
- 22:13Speaker 5: Foundation they have their own social media Facebook and Instagram,
- 22:17Speaker 5: and then of course Baker and Emily have their own
- 22:18Speaker 5: Instagram accounts that are very prominent and they do share
- 22:21Speaker 5: these videos and share this. What I tell people is like,
- 22:23Speaker 5: I mean, just think we have thirty two NFL teams, right,
- 22:26Speaker 5: I believe it? And who in I mean all the
- 22:31Speaker 5: organizations and all these other thirty one other cities and
- 22:34Speaker 5: we have one quarterback. There's the most prominent position prevably
- 22:39Speaker 5: in the game. That chows us over all the other
- 22:43Speaker 5: nonprofits and so this every other nonprofit I think traditionally
- 22:47Speaker 5: does a gala, They do a golf tournament, they do
- 22:49Speaker 5: a clay shoot. They might even do a pickle ball tournament.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Who thought a top golf Baker Emily Mayfield.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Because everyone can play top golf, like, you know, you
- 22:58Speaker 3: don't be a golfer. You just have to love it,
- 23:00Speaker 3: good time and be able to kind of swing the club.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you just got to stand there. They have so
- 23:04Speaker 2: many games at top golf that I'm like, thank God
- 23:06Speaker 2: because I'm a horrible golfer.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Yeah, and that we had a good team. In fact,
- 23:10Speaker 4: my Papa Bagels Clim will be there with us too, Yes, and.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Hopefully they'll be bringing bagels for Scott. Can just anybody
- 23:18Speaker 3: buy tickets to this event or is it like, oh,
- 23:20Speaker 3: you have to know no.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Tickets are online, They're available.
- 23:22Speaker 5: There's also sponsorships available and yeah, I bought a bay
- 23:25Speaker 5: and I think I mean individual tickets will sell on sale.
- 23:28Speaker 4: I think, of course, you know it will sell out.
- 23:29Speaker 5: Because yeah, popularity.
- 23:31Speaker 4: Of Baker and Emiley.
- 23:33Speaker 5: What I what I would suggest is go online, try
- 23:35Speaker 5: to secure you a ticket today. But if you can't
- 23:38Speaker 5: come and it does sell out and if it's out
- 23:40Speaker 5: of your price, I understand. But you can send me
- 23:41Speaker 5: a message on social media. I know you'll tag my
- 23:44Speaker 5: handles and things like that. But if you want to
- 23:45Speaker 5: come to the Early Learning Collision of a Summit, which
- 23:48Speaker 5: is on September twenty fourth, we'll love to get you
- 23:51Speaker 5: to that event, especially parents, especially providers, you know we
- 23:54Speaker 5: call the Provider's Daycares and or something right, and especially
- 23:58Speaker 5: business leaders because the more USUESS leaders knowing about the
- 24:01Speaker 5: need we have for early learning in our community, the
- 24:04Speaker 5: better it is for everyone around us.
- 24:06Speaker 1: And it's going to transform our community.
- 24:08Speaker 3: And just like what we just said, you know, in
- 24:11Speaker 3: passing with all of this other information about the event
- 24:14Speaker 3: is really like Tampa is growing so much and the
- 24:17Speaker 3: kids of the future, so when you support the kids,
- 24:18Speaker 3: you're supporting the growth of Tampa.
- 24:21Speaker 2: It's so powerful. I love what y'all are doing. I
- 24:23Speaker 2: cannot wait to go golf and then get my selfie
- 24:25Speaker 2: with Baker and Emily.
- 24:26Speaker 4: I better got him in the show.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Oh yeah you got Oh absolutely, I'll throw it out there.
- 24:31Speaker 2: He'll be like, uh nah, I got practice.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he's a little busy. He's got a
- 24:35Speaker 1: lot going on.
- 24:35Speaker 2: They got a big season coming up. But a gosh,
- 24:37Speaker 2: thank you for swinging in and telling us about that event.
- 24:39Speaker 2: We'll make sure to share as much as it possibly can,
- 24:41Speaker 2: and I'll make sure to put it on my Instagram
- 24:43Speaker 2: how I crush it at top Golf.
- 24:45Speaker 3: And I'll link everything in the episode description as well,
- 24:47Speaker 3: so if you want to.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Check it out, check out the episode naturally.
- 24:49Speaker 4: To change your plans, Ibby, what.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I got, Olivia Dean, I gotta go to Baker Mayfield
- 24:56Speaker 3: and the kids.
- 24:56Speaker 1: But I'm gonna be out in Texas.
- 24:58Speaker 5: Ye, how well, we'll see you and then I'll invite
- 25:00Speaker 5: you both also on September, but.
- 25:01Speaker 1: You will see me on September twenty fourth.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Yes sounds awesome, my gosh, thank you so much.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Thank you Scott and having I really appreciate you both.
