- 0:01One of the big issues that all people face is dealing with
- 0:05Cravings habits and addictions, and their effects in their
- 0:10lives. The mechanism at work here is
- 0:13not based on conscious decision making, but on impulses feelings
- 0:18and pulls that occur, subconsciously, whether in the
- 0:22mind, the vital being where the body, certain habits May begin
- 0:28with a mental or vital acceptance.
- 0:31Particularly as a result of peer pressure or tradition.
- 0:36Thus many begin to utilize tobacco or alcohol or other
- 0:41recreational drugs, as a result of the pressure from outside,
- 0:47Once the acceptance, is there the physical effects of the
- 0:51Habit? Begin to be felt in the
- 0:53beginning. Many of these are experienced as
- 0:56extremely positive experiences euphoric or soporific.
- 1:01We're bringing with them feelings of warmth and lower
- 1:05inhibitions reduction of feelings of social awkwardness.
- 1:10These experiences also work on the physical cells of the body,
- 1:14and stir, the release of certain hormones, that are associated
- 1:18with pleasure and good feelings. When the immediate stimulus
- 1:24wears off, one feels a lack of stemming, from the reduction of
- 1:28the flow of the hormones in the system.
- 1:31And at later stages, when addiction arises, there are
- 1:35physical symptoms of ill, feeling that arise, There can be
- 1:39headaches. Nausea, uncontrolled, nervous,
- 1:43impulses, and feelings of depression.
- 1:47The body has accepted subconsciously.
- 1:50The need for the Habit, it should be noted that not all
- 1:54habits or addictions are related to taking a physical drug or
- 1:57substance. These can also arise through
- 2:00vital movements or even mental addiction when the mind gets a
- 2:05thrill or satisfaction from certain actions, when intense
- 2:10and addiction can rack the body in nerve pain to such a degree
- 2:15that the individual feels like he is burning up or otherwise
- 2:19experiencing extreme bodily discomfort bordering on physical
- 2:24torture, In those instances, the individual will do just about
- 2:30anything to satisfy the addiction.
- 2:34The needs so created are not real needs in as much as they
- 2:38are created through actions that are extraneous to basic physical
- 2:43vital or mental needs of life. However, they are created,
- 2:47however, eventually the individual must either take
- 2:51steps to break the habit or addiction or suffer.
- 2:55An ever-deepening spiral of pain, pressure and systematic,
- 2:59destruction of the body, the Life Energy, and the mental
- 3:04power. Ours, as the addiction gets out
- 3:06of hand and takes over one's life.
- 3:11The first step is to find the will to overcome the habit or
- 3:14addiction, some are easier to break than others.
- 3:18Caffeine addiction is for instance, extremely common.
- 3:21In our society, with the accepted social intake of tea or
- 3:25coffee, it is relatively easy to Marshal the will to overcome
- 3:30caffeine addiction with some physical side effects for a few
- 3:34days or a week. Much more difficult would be
- 3:37addiction to opioids, which require the individual to
- 3:41undertake a program. In most cases with very heavy
- 3:44assistance, to break the habit and fight through the withdrawal
- 3:49suffering. Alcohol.
- 3:51Addiction is one that falls in between as the mood one.
- 3:55Feels while imbibing alcohol is said to help individuals unwind
- 3:59from the stress of modern day, life of poor circumstances and
- 4:05escape from the pressures of the present life.
- 4:08It becomes a crutch that people do not want to throw away until
- 4:13such time as they recognize the issues.
- 4:16The alcohol is creating for them, physically vitally
- 4:20mentally and in their social relationships.
- 4:24By that time, many have suffered irreversible damage to their
- 4:28internal organs and thus a new round of physical difficulties
- 4:33and suffering follows. If the individual wakes up soon
- 4:37enough to the dangers of any of these addictions, he can
- 4:41exercise will to implement a plan to overcome the Habit,
- 4:46craving or addiction. Whatever it is this plan.
- 4:49Generally involves some kind of changes in diet Out.
- 4:55And in many cases assistance of professionals and use of a
- 4:59program of weaning off of The Addictive substance over time
- 5:03with patience perseverance and a strong will to succeed.
- 5:09Three aurobindo notes, quote. It is the Habit in the
- 5:13subconscient material. That feels an artificial need
- 5:17created by the past and does not care, whether it is harmful or
- 5:21disturbing to the nerves or not. That is the nature of all
- 5:26intoxicants wine, tobacco cocaine, Etc.
- 5:31People go on even after the deleterious effects, have shown
- 5:34themselves and even after all the real pleasure in it has
- 5:38ceased because This artificial need it's not real, the will has
- 5:44to get hold of this subconscient persistence and dissolve it in
