- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Derrick.
- 0:07Speaker 2: All right, well here on the One Leg Up Network.
- 0:09Speaker 2: One Leg Up, Alex was on the scene once again.
- 0:13Speaker 2: And who I first turned to when I actually got
- 0:15Speaker 2: this show, see the coach, the man, the coach of
- 0:19Speaker 2: the Year, Rick Bettino, A fellow Italian American lu Terminello.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I mean, hey, he's making Italian Americans crowd here, Louis.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Oh, he's done a fantastic job for Saint John's.
- 0:32Speaker 1: That's that's certain best best team they've had since two thousand.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Really a remarkable job when you think about it. Yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 1: I know they've had some nil money, but they haven't
- 0:43Speaker 1: had the most n IL money and he had to pay.
- 0:45Speaker 1: He started from scratch this year with a new team. Really,
- 0:48Speaker 1: the guy is a Hall of Fame coach. Spectacular. Now,
- 0:54Speaker 1: as long as Saint John's in the tournament, he's taken
- 0:57Speaker 1: over New York, that's for sure. You know.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Bruce beck otis Livingston. They were on campus today for
- 1:03Speaker 2: the sendoff, by the way, so they got a lot
- 1:05Speaker 2: of eyes on them heading into Providence right now.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Well they should. They deserve it. The guys play hard.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Patino has drilled the type of ball he wants to play. Yes,
- 1:18Speaker 1: he usually has a better offensive team, but it doesn't matter.
- 1:24Speaker 1: They play every possession hard. Their defense is always top,
- 1:29Speaker 1: top notch. It gets them through those offensive periods where
- 1:33Speaker 1: they where they're having trouble scoring the ball. But the
- 1:35Speaker 1: other night, for the first thirty minutes in a championship
- 1:38Speaker 1: game against Cranton, they were behind and then they hit
- 1:41Speaker 1: fourteen shots in a row, most of them off the break,
- 1:44Speaker 1: most of them off their defense. But yeah, a spectacular
- 1:49Speaker 1: coaching job by the guy who's going to be the
- 1:51Speaker 1: coach of the year. He's got to be the national
- 1:53Speaker 1: coach of the year.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I know, especially the turnaround and not just the one
- 1:57Speaker 2: year to this year, I mean the turnaround in general,
- 1:59Speaker 2: because all right, they made it with Mullen a few
- 2:02Speaker 2: times over the years, they didn't make it to the
- 2:05Speaker 2: tournament without a different feel Anderson. We know the Anderson story.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It wasn't all great. So in three years time, he's
- 2:13Speaker 2: truly turned around a program that was a little bit
- 2:16Speaker 2: in the I had to say, the Doldrums are the
- 2:17Speaker 2: Big East, but they weren't always at the top right
- 2:19Speaker 2: as they are.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Right they were Alex they weren't adult drums. I mean,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I mean, we can look back at some of the
- 2:26Speaker 1: games that they've teams that they lost to, which was
- 2:29Speaker 1: just head scratching. And again they've gone this long period
- 2:33Speaker 1: of time without winning an NCAA game, which will, barring
- 2:37Speaker 1: the upset of the decade, they'll they'll end on when
- 2:42Speaker 1: they play Omaha, you know on Thursday night.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Now, well, wait a minute, one second, I have a
- 2:49Speaker 2: question because legendary head coach Jay Wright put up his
- 2:52Speaker 2: Final four bracket on CBS after selection Sunday, and except
- 2:57Speaker 2: for Houston instead of Duke, I have do going the
- 3:01Speaker 2: playoff in the in the final, he has Houston. I
- 3:04Speaker 2: got all four teams like he did. Does that mean
- 3:07Speaker 2: I'm onto something? If the legendary day right now you are
- 3:09Speaker 2: on the check in the same line with the four here, it's.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Good to be on the same track as the legendary
- 3:15Speaker 1: Hall of famer Jay Wright. Uh. Yeah, he picked Saint
- 3:19Speaker 1: Johnson go to the final four.
- 3:20Speaker 2: He did.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Saint John's in a very tough bracket, very tough. Uh.
- 3:25Speaker 1: And this is a tough NCAA tournament to pick. But
- 3:30Speaker 1: they're in a tough bracket. I mean, as let's as
- 3:32Speaker 1: we look at the you know, you look at the bracket.
- 3:36Speaker 1: If they win, they gotta play Kansas or Arkansas. Okay,
- 3:39Speaker 1: these aren't vintage Kansas or Arkansas teams, but they're coaching
- 3:44Speaker 1: Kansas by spill self, a Hall of famer, Arkansas by
- 3:48Speaker 1: John Cali Power, who did a fine job in his
- 3:50Speaker 1: first year at Arkansas, and they could end up, you know,
- 3:54Speaker 1: playing so they could be playing Maryland, where Kevin Willard,
- 3:59Speaker 1: the old Seaton Hall coach, has done the first job.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And I heard that he was approached for the Villa
- 4:07Speaker 1: Villanova job, but Maryland quickly put an end to that
- 4:11Speaker 1: by giving him an extension. I believe. I don't know
- 4:14Speaker 1: if it's beneficially announced, but the best, the best team
- 4:18Speaker 1: in that that bracket, the deepest team is Florida. They
- 4:21Speaker 1: can score a lot of points.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I was gonna ask you about that because I was
- 4:24Speaker 2: a little I was a little concern when they go
- 4:26Speaker 2: through selection Sunday, All right, Saint John's in the first
- 4:28Speaker 2: is in first in the East. They're not first in
- 4:31Speaker 2: this South, you know, in those other regions, and they
- 4:34Speaker 2: weren't even South in their they weren't even first in
- 4:36Speaker 2: their own bracket. Why not a first ring seed for
- 4:40Speaker 2: Saint John's.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Well they I mean the second the second seat, which
- 4:43Speaker 1: I didn't think they were going to get before the
- 4:45Speaker 1: Big East tournament. That's that's fine. The fourth number one
- 4:50Speaker 1: seeds that that that were double the number one seeds,
- 4:53Speaker 1: all that that this committee hit hit the nail on
- 4:57Speaker 1: the head on that one. I'm just surprised that Saint
- 5:00Speaker 1: John's isn't in the Newark bracket. I thought for sure
- 5:05Speaker 1: that would.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Have made a ton of more sense, right, But you
- 5:07Speaker 2: know what I also know about this tournament is they
- 5:11Speaker 2: don't always put that team local in the region. It's
- 5:14Speaker 2: very d I mean when Yukon was in the East
- 5:16Speaker 2: regional down here in twenty fourteen, when they made their run.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Yeah, they played the Garden.
- 5:21Speaker 2: They played the Garden. I was there and I gave
- 5:23Speaker 2: up and I.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Gave him a big advantage. But you know how you
- 5:26Speaker 1: were there. You know how many Yukon fans was.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Packed out, and I was a bit surprised because the
- 5:32Speaker 2: Spartans were stumbling all over themselves. I think they were
- 5:35Speaker 2: a little pressure by that home court advantage Yukon certainly had.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But the point is maybe parody, maybe something else that
- 5:42Speaker 2: leads these selections to be moving a team outside the region.
- 5:46Speaker 2: That's what I gotta believe.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And it's if they want to make parody, like you said,
- 5:50Speaker 1: they want. They wanted four brackets to be as bounced
- 5:52Speaker 1: as as possible in the old days before you were born, Alex.
- 5:56Speaker 1: It didn't work that way. They went geographically hundred percent,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and many times one region was so much stronger than
- 6:04Speaker 1: the other.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So that's why I believe the SEC has the most teams.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Is that correct?
- 6:11Speaker 1: Fourteen? The Big East one year had eleven. Back this
- 6:15Speaker 1: was back when the football schools was still in the
- 6:17Speaker 1: Big East, they have fourteen teams. I don't look, Texas
- 6:24Speaker 1: was six and twelve in the conference. Yeah they were
- 6:26Speaker 1: a good team. Oklahoma was six and twelve in the conference.
- 6:30Speaker 1: But you want to know something, if you're playing a
- 6:32Speaker 1: good conference like that, six and twelve was still six
- 6:35Speaker 1: and twelve. I don't know. If I don't know if
- 6:37Speaker 1: fourteen teams should be it should be in a tournament.
- 6:41Speaker 1: But uh, I don't think we're gonna see those upsets,
- 6:44Speaker 1: those mid major upsticks, or I should say I'm wondering
- 6:47Speaker 1: if are we going to see those mid major upsts
- 6:50Speaker 1: anymore like we saw it?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Because look, what happened over the weekend, right, I mean
- 6:54Speaker 2: we didn't expect Michigan to go out and win the
- 6:56Speaker 2: conference and win.
- 6:57Speaker 1: The Big Ten. No, I didn't.
- 6:59Speaker 2: But more importantly, we didn't expect Tennessee. And look, I've
- 7:02Speaker 2: followed the rankings, maybe not so much of the games,
- 7:04Speaker 2: but a middlely I follow the rankings. I know Auburn
- 7:07Speaker 2: was way too high to be knocked out by a
- 7:09Speaker 2: Tennessee team. Could that be a foreshadow of the tournament?
- 7:12Speaker 2: I don't know. Could Yukon having a struggling year and
- 7:15Speaker 2: a struggling bigieest tournament have implications in the in the tournament?
- 7:20Speaker 2: We don't know. Dave Hurly could turn a totally different
- 7:22Speaker 2: gear in the tournament. That's what I believe here.
- 7:24Speaker 1: But again, as we've discussed in the past, I don't
- 7:28Speaker 1: want to I wouldn't want to play Danny Hurley in Yukon.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Uh So, just look look at that. Look at that
- 7:35Speaker 1: West Region. If Ukon be to Oklahoma, which I think
- 7:40Speaker 1: they will, then they'll be playing Florida, because Florida unless
- 7:46Speaker 1: there's the upset of upsets.
- 7:48Speaker 2: By the way, not to criticue the marchin manager, why
- 7:49Speaker 2: does it take three sponsors to make an app I
- 7:52Speaker 2: don't understand that, but I'm on the march man at
- 7:54Speaker 2: that sponsored by three different averdi What.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Is this lois? You know it is. It's money. They're
- 7:59Speaker 1: all paying for it, and that's that's that's the reason
- 8:02Speaker 1: it's all about. It's all about money, That's what it is.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And tonight it's gonna be fun because we're gonna see
- 8:09Speaker 2: if U n C truly deserve to be in this
- 8:12Speaker 2: uh as they face San Diego State in a little bit,
- 8:15Speaker 2: because we all know that controversy. But before we get
- 8:17Speaker 2: to that, let's go to the West Region where Saint
- 8:20Speaker 2: John's is second ranked.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Yep, they are, and uh, I mean that's a tough region.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I mean you look at the dark horse Drake, a
- 8:32Speaker 1: very good team, a team that has a tremendous guard
- 8:36Speaker 1: in Benich Starts. Uh. They're well coached, they control the tempo.
- 8:43Speaker 1: So look out, look out for Drake uh in the tournament.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Now, one thing about Kansas, We've talked about this in
- 8:50Speaker 2: prior to March Madness. I don't know, they always seem
- 8:53Speaker 2: to find themselves high ranked or whatever, and then they
- 8:55Speaker 2: shoot themselves in the foot somehow and end up out
- 8:58Speaker 2: of the tournament. It seems like a penny. The thing
- 9:00Speaker 2: with this team most tournaments, well.
- 9:03Speaker 1: This team has tough, trouble scoring, they go through droughts
- 9:07Speaker 1: of scoring. Sells a great coach. Hunter Dickinson is still there.
- 9:12Speaker 1: He's a great player. He'll be in the NBA. Arkansas
- 9:16Speaker 1: has battled injuries all year. Coach cal has done a
- 9:20Speaker 1: terrific job of getting him this far. I thought I
- 9:22Speaker 1: had no idea that they were even close to getting
- 9:25Speaker 1: in two weeks ago, but they were in. And obviously
- 9:30Speaker 1: he lives for the tournament and he's been successful as
- 9:33Speaker 1: it has self has been successful. But that West Region, man,
- 9:37Speaker 1: it's tough. But if Arkansas wins in Saint John's wins,
- 9:42Speaker 1: you'll see in Providence, you'll see John Calipari and Eric
- 9:46Speaker 1: Patino going against each other like they've done many times
- 9:49Speaker 1: in the past. Wet Kentucky and Louisville.
- 9:55Speaker 2: In the National Yeah, and I see Louisville has has
- 9:58Speaker 2: made it once again, by the way. Real quick on Creighton,
- 10:01Speaker 2: who obviously faced off against Sint John's in the Big
- 10:03Speaker 2: East Final. Here, uh cluk Renner, this is his final year,
- 10:08Speaker 2: I believe, I mean, this is gonna be. He's probably
- 10:09Speaker 2: motivated to carry this team. But why did they have
- 10:13Speaker 2: a better outcome than Yukon? What they do differently than
- 10:17Speaker 2: you know to beat out Ucon in that series.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Uh, you mean, well, you can't beat them on Saturday night.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But I think Saturday night Creighton was tired from the
- 10:31Speaker 1: double overtime game they play against Purdue. Uh, crane, Crane.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I think should have should have played, should have won
- 10:39Speaker 1: more games. They should have been higher up. I think
- 10:40Speaker 1: they underachieved a little bit. As for it's a fantastic
- 10:43Speaker 1: point guard. Uh, he controls the game. He did not
- 10:46Speaker 1: have a good game against Yukon, against Saint John's in
- 10:51Speaker 1: the finals on a Saturday night. But uh, you know,
- 11:00Speaker 1: Coke Brenner is a great player. I don't know what
- 11:03Speaker 1: his NBA status is. I'm sure he's gonna be drafted
- 11:06Speaker 1: in the first round. He's a great four time defensive
- 11:10Speaker 1: player of the Year in the Big East. The only
- 11:11Speaker 1: other player to do that was the greatest player ever
- 11:14Speaker 1: to play in the Big East in Patrick Ewing. So
- 11:17Speaker 1: we'll see what we'll see what happens. But they're playing Louisville,
- 11:20Speaker 1: and Louisville is one of the great turnaround stories in
- 11:23Speaker 1: college basketball. This blue blood program which went through three
- 11:27Speaker 1: or four years of four and twenty eight. Uh, you know,
- 11:31Speaker 1: they won six games, seven games, and the turnaround has
- 11:34Speaker 1: been has been has been remarkable. That's an interesting game.
- 11:39Speaker 1: The crighton Louisville game.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Well, you know it's interesting you mentioned about draft picks
- 11:44Speaker 2: by the way Louisville. Of course, Patino's old Diggs and
- 11:48Speaker 2: certainly when he left that program, Uh, he had had
- 11:52Speaker 2: changed everything for Louisville and whatnot, and we all know
- 11:54Speaker 2: what happened with that, but we will get to that
- 11:56Speaker 2: part of it. But when he left, it was it
- 11:58Speaker 2: was not an easy run for Louisviland after that, one
- 12:02Speaker 2: thing about Patino I was thinking, is correct me if
- 12:04Speaker 2: I'm wrong? When he was at Iona he had a
- 12:07Speaker 2: house on a golf course? Is that correct? Am I right?
- 12:10Speaker 1: He might have that? I don't know, But again, he
- 12:12Speaker 1: was successful at Iona. Obviously he turned them around quickly.
- 12:17Speaker 1: He took them to the NCAA tournament. He's taken six
- 12:21Speaker 1: teams now to this will be a sixteen that he's
- 12:23Speaker 1: taken to the NCAAA tournament. And obviously with Saint John's
- 12:29Speaker 1: he has more weapons to work with thinking at iona. Huh.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Well, when r J, Louis and Zubie were coming out
- 12:36Speaker 2: of the Carnsac arena, all I hear was MVP MVP tonight.
- 12:39Speaker 2: So well, you know, I love about that. He said,
- 12:42Speaker 2: I didn't recruit them because of money. I recruit them
- 12:44Speaker 2: because a character, and he emphasized that multiple times.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Well, yeah, again, I'm sure that's part of it. But
- 12:54Speaker 1: you know, money I'm sure helped a little bit. I mean,
- 12:56Speaker 1: I'm sure you mass when he where Louis strew he
- 13:00Speaker 1: was couldn't match Saint John's money. And I heard that
- 13:04Speaker 1: Louis Junior didn't get a lot, didn't get a lot
- 13:06Speaker 1: of Anil money like Kadari Richmond guy. So uh.
- 13:10Speaker 2: And again they know Kadar is being lost in the
- 13:12Speaker 2: shuffle here because he is a veteran presence on this team.
- 13:15Speaker 2: He helps guide this team, no doubt. Why isn't he
- 13:18Speaker 2: getting enough?
- 13:20Speaker 1: I am shocked, Alex. He wasn't named last year and
- 13:23Speaker 1: with Seton Hall he was all All Biggie's first Team.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I thought he should have been All Biggie's first team.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Again this year he was second team. He's motivated, obviously,
- 13:32Speaker 1: he's he's a veteran guy. He's played for three teams,
- 13:36Speaker 1: so he's gone through uh, you know, he's gone through
- 13:39Speaker 1: the gamut of of of how tough the college basketball
- 13:44Speaker 1: grind is. I think he's I think he's the key,
- 13:49Speaker 1: one of the key guys in this tournament for Saint
- 13:50Speaker 1: John's be successful. Yeah, Louis Junior is a scorer. He
- 13:53Speaker 1: can slash the basket and hit occasional three, but uh
- 13:59Speaker 1: uh Kadar, I can control the game, and I you know,
- 14:05Speaker 1: I think I think he's really the key to Saint
- 14:08Speaker 1: John's as as as they get deeper in a tournament.
- 14:12Speaker 2: All Right, Louis seem to know everything about these teams.
- 14:15Speaker 2: So what do you can tell us about Omaha that
- 14:17Speaker 2: we may not know about right now?
- 14:18Speaker 1: The only thing I can tell you about Omaha they've
- 14:20Speaker 1: been in they won the Summit League, the tournament to share. Oh,
- 14:24Speaker 1: they've only been in Division one for sixteen years, and Alex,
- 14:29Speaker 1: that's about And I know that Omaha's Nebraska. That's really
- 14:32Speaker 1: all I know about him.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I know. I'm like you one if there's an Omaha
- 14:36Speaker 2: Creighton rivalry that we don't know about because they're in
- 14:39Speaker 2: the same city, pretty much.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, I don't even know if they play each other,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I mean if they've ever played each other. Usually Creighton
- 14:45Speaker 1: plays Nebraska every year obviously that's a big rivalry. But
- 14:51Speaker 1: I think Saint John's is almost a seventeen point favorite. Uh,
- 14:55Speaker 1: they probably will cover. And the only thing that could
- 14:59Speaker 1: be Say John's against Omaha is if Omaha goes crazy
- 15:03Speaker 1: from the three point range and I don't even know
- 15:05Speaker 1: what kind of long shooting team, long range shooting team
- 15:08Speaker 1: they are or and this is not going to happen
- 15:11Speaker 1: if St. Saint John's comes in totally totally overconfidence and
- 15:17Speaker 1: that that will not happen with Patino in this first
- 15:21Speaker 1: ever NCAA game as coaches of Saint John's.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Well, you know, one of the one other pick I'm
- 15:30Speaker 2: looking at now for because I love doing these brackets,
- 15:33Speaker 2: firstly because they're free. Secondly because it's just exciting to
- 15:37Speaker 2: compete with others and see how accurate you are. I
- 15:40Speaker 2: have Yeale winning again because I'm like, well, they didn't
- 15:42Speaker 2: let me down last year. Maybe they could be another
- 15:43Speaker 2: team that pulls out a few wins here.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Well, Alex, that would not be a shocker. They're good.
- 15:49Speaker 1: They they they're Obviously, they've made the tournament three years
- 15:53Speaker 1: in a row, so they they're experience, they're pretty physical
- 15:56Speaker 1: for an IVY League team, and they have a chance
- 16:03Speaker 1: they do They definitely don't have a chance that would
- 16:05Speaker 1: that will be an interesting interesting watch.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yeah, well we'll have to see any of these low ranks.
- 16:12Speaker 2: You know, sometimes these low ranking teams come out of it. Now,
- 16:16Speaker 2: obviously we're not gonna see Lipscomb make a great Final
- 16:18Speaker 2: Four run, but basketball is plenty like that. Uh. I
- 16:22Speaker 2: think we discredit a lot of these teams in name only.
- 16:24Speaker 2: We don't actually know their talent. Am I right?
- 16:27Speaker 1: You are correct? I mean, you're one hundred percent correct.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I haven't seen, uh you see San Diego play, but
- 16:34Speaker 1: everybody says they're for real. Some people say that they are.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You know, they're gonna give uh they're playing Michigan a
- 16:44Speaker 1: tough a tough game. I don't know. I mean.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Now, one way I picked is that whoever won these
- 16:51Speaker 2: conferences unexpectedly or handily, it's gonna have momentum compared to
- 16:58Speaker 2: someone that's gonna be automatically assumed. Like let's say VC
- 17:02Speaker 2: overs BYU. I think VCU is coming off of a
- 17:05Speaker 2: great tournament and they have momentum going in against BYU.
- 17:09Speaker 2: But I picked Robert Morris because they are a special
- 17:11Speaker 2: story that I've been reading that they you know, big
- 17:14Speaker 2: moment for them to get to. Maybe they run with
- 17:16Speaker 2: it a little bit. We'll see.
- 17:19Speaker 1: They have a pretty good team and they have some
- 17:21Speaker 1: good they have some size rob Morris does. But getting
- 17:24Speaker 1: back to momentum, I've seen it go both ways in
- 17:28Speaker 1: h in when Zollanova pulled off the big upset against
- 17:35Speaker 1: Georgetown in nineteen eighty five, they lost. They lost in
- 17:41Speaker 1: the second round in the semi finals of the Big
- 17:44Speaker 1: East tournaments. They got run over by Pittsburgh and they
- 17:49Speaker 1: didn't look like they were going to go anywhere in
- 17:51Speaker 1: the Big East Tournament. They had a tough game in
- 17:53Speaker 1: the first round. I believe they played Date. I could
- 17:56Speaker 1: be wrong. I think they played Dayton and uh they
- 18:04Speaker 1: won a national championship. They won six games. I actually
- 18:09Speaker 1: think they in the first one. The first two rounds
- 18:11Speaker 1: they actually played. They might have played FDU also, I'm
- 18:14Speaker 1: not sure. And they looked okay, but they won a
- 18:17Speaker 1: national championship. They beat Memphis State and in the in
- 18:21Speaker 1: the national semifinal, and then they played the greatest game
- 18:23Speaker 1: and the last game went out the shot clock. If
- 18:26Speaker 1: there was a shot clock, Villanova would not have won
- 18:28Speaker 1: that championship. Uh so you don't know. And then you've
- 18:33Speaker 1: seen teams like you said, come in like a house
- 18:36Speaker 1: on fire, red hot and get knocked out the first weekend.
- 18:40Speaker 2: There's that too. A lot can happen, all right, I
- 18:43Speaker 2: gotta turn our attention to the Carolinas North Carolina because
- 18:48Speaker 2: you have Duke, and you know about NBA draft possibilities. Obviously,
- 18:54Speaker 2: Cooper Flag is not just a Duke story, not just
- 18:56Speaker 2: a March Madness story. He's a sports story because this
- 19:00Speaker 2: is the number one pick most likely we're talking about
- 19:03Speaker 2: coming in pobble lou and can they overcome this? And
- 19:09Speaker 2: and our NBA you know, Scout's really gonna watch this
- 19:12Speaker 2: more than we realize right now.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Well, Cooper Flagg's ankle and Elite Brown's shoulder are the
- 19:20Speaker 1: two keys for Duke. I mean, if they say his
- 19:23Speaker 1: ankle's okay, they say he's ready to play, even in
- 19:26Speaker 1: the first game against the sixteen seed, which I wouldn't
- 19:29Speaker 1: play him, but I guess they want to. You know,
- 19:32Speaker 1: let's face, this team is so good. They won the
- 19:34Speaker 1: ACC Championship with him playing less than a half, and
- 19:40Speaker 1: but that might be the most. That might be the
- 19:41Speaker 1: keys to victory. Flag's ankle, Brown's brown shoulder. Cooper Flagg
- 19:48Speaker 1: has gotten better every game since November.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Likely will be if he's healthy, will be a one
- 19:55Speaker 2: and done.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Right, Oh, he's one. I mean it's he's one and done.
- 19:59Speaker 1: He's going to be the FIRS picking the NBA. Whoever
- 20:02Speaker 1: wins the lottery, They're picking him. He can defend the rim,
- 20:07Speaker 1: he can handle the ball, he can shoot the three.
- 20:10Speaker 1: He loves to play. He's a smart guy. He has
- 20:13Speaker 1: a high basketball IQ. He's the real deal. I mean
- 20:17Speaker 1: he and he's a young eighteen. He just turned eighteen
- 20:21Speaker 1: about you know, three months ago.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Whodos to all the college kids that enter at age
- 20:26Speaker 2: seventeen and grow from there. I was one of those
- 20:28Speaker 2: kids at age seventeen and then I grew from there,
- 20:31Speaker 2: so I can empathize with that. But no, Duke, all
- 20:35Speaker 2: eyes on them because of Cooper, because we're gonna see,
- 20:38Speaker 2: I mean, the injury. Is just riveting to see how
- 20:40Speaker 2: he comes back from the correct All right. I want
- 20:43Speaker 2: to stick in that, Carolina is because you have the
- 20:49Speaker 2: main guy in the selection committee telling CBS he's not
- 20:52Speaker 2: in the same room when his when his team makes
- 20:57Speaker 2: the tournament, and everybody is scratching your head. Does you
- 21:01Speaker 2: and c deserve to be there? Loure, what's going on here?
- 21:04Speaker 1: Well? I was shocked when I saw them on the
- 21:07Speaker 1: upper left hand quarter and it's CBS put them up
- 21:10Speaker 1: right away. That was like one of the first That
- 21:12Speaker 1: was the first matchup that they talked about. I didn't
- 21:16Speaker 1: think they were going to be in. They were one
- 21:18Speaker 1: and twelve in quad one at games, which is terrible,
- 21:24Speaker 1: and they couldn't beat Duke without Cooper Flegg and Malie Brown.
- 21:30Speaker 1: They were down twenty four. You know, they came back
- 21:32Speaker 1: and they had a chance to run at the end,
- 21:33Speaker 1: but they didn't win at the end. Duke beat them
- 21:36Speaker 1: three times this year. They didn't deserve to be in.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And again, no conspiracy, conspiracy theories, Hey, I know I
- 21:46Speaker 1: read that the ad Bubba Cunningham, who yes, he wasn't
- 21:50Speaker 1: in the room, and they talked about North Caroline when
- 21:52Speaker 1: the committee talks about North Carolina, but Alex he got
- 21:57Speaker 1: like one hundred thousand dollars bonus for North Carolina making
- 22:01Speaker 1: the tournament.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Now I'm hearing this breaking news. I don't know, I
- 22:05Speaker 2: feel like a bit not conspiratorial. Is it true he
- 22:09Speaker 2: got a bonus after the tar Heels made the tournament?
- 22:12Speaker 2: Is this true?
- 22:12Speaker 1: Yes, that's what I just said. Yes, that's true. And
- 22:16Speaker 1: the farther they go he gets different level of bonuses.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I think fifty thousand if they get to uh the
- 22:24Speaker 1: second weekend, one hundred thousand if they get to the
- 22:27Speaker 1: final four. So yeah, I don't that that's I mean,
- 22:32Speaker 1: you could look that up because you know that's probably
- 22:36Speaker 1: public records.
- 22:40Speaker 2: It's it's unbelievable. But as I've been saying since this
- 22:44Speaker 2: pick happened, Bubba Cunningham is the locksmith.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah, though he's he's a long time a day at
- 22:54Speaker 1: North Carolina, and obviously he has a lot of power.
- 22:58Speaker 2: The audio is trying to get for you. He's a
- 23:05Speaker 2: locksmith of the tournament. He's the ad and he's selection guy.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I mean, come on, he's a locksmith of the tournament.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Yeah. So again I was I was stunned, and I
- 23:17Speaker 1: guess one hundred and eleven bracketologists to use metrics and analytics,
- 23:24Speaker 1: all one hundred and eleven, only like less than twenty
- 23:30Speaker 1: had North Carolina.
- 23:32Speaker 2: At so, I guess we're using Bubba palm, not Ken palm.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where we're using Bubba palm.
- 23:38Speaker 2: So uh well, I mean, we could go all all
- 23:41Speaker 2: night about this. It's gonna be a fun sixty Bobby's
- 23:44Speaker 2: sixty eight and then sixty four.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I think there's sixty three games altogether in the tournament.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I think it's sixty three.
- 23:53Speaker 2: It's gonna be fun. Louis, I'm sure you get excited
- 23:55Speaker 2: around this time of year.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Hey, twelve o'clock on Thursday, I went talked in front
- 24:00Speaker 1: of my television set from twelve noon to twelve midnight.
- 24:04Speaker 2: There you go. And when it hits Newark, who knows,
- 24:07Speaker 2: maybe we'll get out there or something like that. I
- 24:09Speaker 2: don't know. We got to see. I'm looking at my
- 24:12Speaker 2: other bracket and seeing if there were any surprises, and
- 24:16Speaker 2: that actually you might find me crazy, maybe because my
- 24:19Speaker 2: our colleague Mark de Boor has some liberty ties. They
- 24:23Speaker 2: were so excited to get in the tournament. I almost
- 24:25Speaker 2: I did pick them as an upset against Oregon. I
- 24:28Speaker 2: called me crazy, but you never know.
- 24:31Speaker 1: No, you never know, and that that's kind of game. Well,
- 24:36Speaker 1: you might be right that that but Oregon is I mean,
- 24:41Speaker 1: Oregon is a good team. I mean I wouldn't bet
- 24:44Speaker 1: the ranch on it, but you could see an upset there.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I mean two other perennial teams before you go, we'll
- 24:53Speaker 2: go on there. Gonzaga and Arizona always preennial tournament teams
- 24:58Speaker 2: always expectations and they don't often run with it. Why
- 25:04Speaker 2: is that especially Goo Zag because they always come in
- 25:06Speaker 2: like highly ranked and then it ends up in a
- 25:08Speaker 2: bus for that.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Well, they've done again. You got to win six games,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and twice they've won five and they've lost in the
- 25:15Speaker 1: championship game. This is not one of their great teams,
- 25:19Speaker 1: but they're still They made that. They made the tournament
- 25:23Speaker 1: for the twenty six straight year, so I mean they
- 25:30Speaker 1: have a chance to swing the bat. This game against
- 25:33Speaker 1: George is an interesting game. I think I like in Zaga.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Watch out for Clemson. Watch out for Clemson. They were
- 25:41Speaker 1: a five seed and I think I think they have
- 25:43Speaker 1: a chance to to beat McNeese. I think they can
- 25:47Speaker 1: give Purdue a tough time. Watch out for Clemson. Houston
- 25:52Speaker 1: always plays stuff defense. Kelvin Sampson, that's that's his trademark.
- 25:57Speaker 1: They've won their Conference five years in a row, first
- 26:01Speaker 1: to last two years at first two win the Big
- 26:04Speaker 1: twelve three before that in the American so they have
- 26:09Speaker 1: a chance, they have a chance to get to the
- 26:11Speaker 1: final four. It mean again, it's gonna it's going to
- 26:15Speaker 1: be another spine spine tournament.
- 26:19Speaker 2: You know, we'll see how many people are ripping up
- 26:21Speaker 2: their brackets by the end of day one. By the way,
- 26:24Speaker 2: I'm sure this is why you don't make one, lou
- 26:26Speaker 2: because you don't want to be ripping up your bracket
- 26:28Speaker 2: at the end of the day, right.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Well, I haven't. I usually haven't made any brackets out
- 26:32Speaker 1: the last seven or eight years. I used to, And
- 26:34Speaker 1: like I said, that's why you're right, that's the reason
- 26:36Speaker 1: I helped make I just want to enjoy, enjoy the
- 26:39Speaker 1: tournament and and see what happens.
- 26:43Speaker 2: You know, how about this did Tom is a farewell
- 26:46Speaker 2: tour is in the tournament because he announced he's going
- 26:49Speaker 2: to retire at the end of the year. And that's
- 26:51Speaker 2: pretty big news because Tom is another staple of college basketball,
- 26:56Speaker 2: another legend. I actually have them going to the Elite eight.
- 27:00Speaker 2: E think I'll be right on that one or.
- 27:01Speaker 1: What very well, you're very well could be right. Obviously
- 27:05Speaker 1: in the past is as shown incredible uh coaching ability
- 27:12Speaker 1: in a tournament, raising a team up to levels that
- 27:15Speaker 1: people didn't think they could. So, no, they have a chance.
- 27:20Speaker 1: They absolutely have a chance to go deep in the tournament.
- 27:23Speaker 1: He's a great, great coach. All right.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I want to get to this other we can talk
- 27:28Speaker 2: about that. I mean, basketball skating up again NBA and
- 27:31Speaker 2: all that. But I gotta ask you this before we
- 27:34Speaker 2: end tonight. A We're gonna have to watch every fifth
- 27:37Speaker 2: inning for the Dodgers now and see if that's gonna
- 27:39Speaker 2: be the magical ending for them. I mean, even in
- 27:41Speaker 2: Game one of the season today in Tokyo, it takes
- 27:45Speaker 2: the fifth inning for that.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I mean, they scored three or four runs in the
- 27:50Speaker 1: fifth inning, which won the game for them in Tokyo.
- 27:55Speaker 1: They're so good, Alex, And.
- 27:57Speaker 2: They don't need Mookie Bets to travel over there.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah they are, Dad, They're so good. Uh, they're gonna
- 28:03Speaker 1: score more than just in the fifth end and that's sure.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Well, And you know, show Hay pitching today against even
- 28:11Speaker 2: it was a it was a historic matchup to begin.
- 28:13Speaker 1: It was, Yeah, but then.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I remember when he was pretty much sidelined a few
- 28:20Speaker 2: years ago from pitching. I'm like, he won't pitch again.
- 28:22Speaker 2: This is is almost impossible, but Roberts and him are
- 28:26Speaker 2: motivated again and pitching again.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Yeah. No, apparently Shawnee is gonna pitch. O'tiy's gonna pitch.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I guess in May they're gonna put him in a rotation. Uh.
- 28:36Speaker 1: To me, their pitching staff is so good. And I
- 28:39Speaker 1: don't mean as as starters are good, but Alex, their
- 28:42Speaker 1: bullpen is lethal, and I mean they are the overwhelming favorite,
- 28:50Speaker 1: the overwhelming favorite to.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Go one to sixty two. And oh, actually that's what
- 28:54Speaker 2: MLB posted today. But you know, I just hope that
- 29:01Speaker 2: it's not a trouncing every game, Like you don't want
- 29:04Speaker 2: a league where one team's gonna dominate every game. There's
- 29:06Speaker 2: gotta be some and I guess that's why the Mets
- 29:11Speaker 2: Dodgers reboot and the regular season's gonna be interesting because
- 29:15Speaker 2: the Mets have some weapons they didn't have last I
- 29:18Speaker 2: guess one weapon they didn't have last year.
- 29:21Speaker 1: You know.
- 29:23Speaker 2: It should be interesting, and.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Now it's an interesting baseball season. I don't like this
- 29:31Speaker 1: fake opening day where they play two games at captain
- 29:35Speaker 1: standings ten days before.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Right, and then they go back to play spring training.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I don't I don't get it. It's bizarre.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Thing is a bizarre A couple of other things. I'm
- 29:48Speaker 1: just gonna throw out there. Three hockey teams. This is
- 29:52Speaker 1: we're in the last months and uh, I don't know.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I mean the Rangers are in there, They're hanging on
- 30:01Speaker 1: by a thread. I don't know if they're gonna make
- 30:02Speaker 1: it or not. Uh. Their power play has to get better.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Adam Fox. I know he's just coming off an injury,
- 30:09Speaker 1: but even before the injury, he hasn't been the dominant
- 30:12Speaker 1: player he was and he's still young. He's got to
- 30:15Speaker 1: play better for them to win and get in and
- 30:18Speaker 1: get into the eighth spot. And if you get into
- 30:20Speaker 1: the eighth spot, then anything can happen. Who knows. I'm
- 30:24Speaker 1: just not sure if they're gonna make it or not.
- 30:26Speaker 1: The Islanders the one thing I'll tell you about the
- 30:30Speaker 1: Islanders who are still on the bubble. But I don't
- 30:35Speaker 1: think they're gonna make it. They just go through too
- 30:37Speaker 1: many long periods oft scoring. The one thing I can
- 30:40Speaker 1: say now, it's under surprised that Patrick Wah, one of
- 30:45Speaker 1: the great competitors in the history of the National Hockey
- 30:48Speaker 1: League that he hasn't been able to will and instill
- 30:54Speaker 1: that competitive drive that he had on his team. There's
- 30:57Speaker 1: been too many periods where the where the Islanders have
- 31:01Speaker 1: come up soft and I don't mean I mean where
- 31:06Speaker 1: they just seemed disinterested even that game. And I think
- 31:09Speaker 1: you might have been at that game, at the game
- 31:11Speaker 1: at the Coliseum, the five to one game.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we were there and we saw them score about
- 31:16Speaker 2: three or four goals in the first couple of periods.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Yeah, they just they just seemed to they're playing their
- 31:23Speaker 1: biggest rifle. And then the game at the Garden was worse.
- 31:26Speaker 1: The game at the Garden they just like, we're totally.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Out of And then somehow they beat the defending champions
- 31:33Speaker 2: on Sunday, I don't know.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Very Yeah, no, and they played the good they played
- 31:38Speaker 1: a good game against Edmonton. Again, they just don't have
- 31:41Speaker 1: enough scorers. They have too many bottom six forwards playing
- 31:45Speaker 1: on a top six.
- 31:46Speaker 2: When you get rid of a guy like brock Nilson,
- 31:48Speaker 2: it deflates the team though, let's just be honest about that.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, and with no Barzel, basically no Barzel the
- 31:55Speaker 1: whole year that that that kills them so.
- 31:59Speaker 2: I'm looking live inside Lose studio. Are you watching the
- 32:02Speaker 2: first game of the play in right now that I am?
- 32:04Speaker 1: And it looks like it's it's a nail byer, it's
- 32:08Speaker 1: a spine tangler sixty eight sixty eight with forty seconds
- 32:12Speaker 1: to go.
- 32:13Speaker 2: And for clarification, because I texted my friend Charlie who
- 32:16Speaker 2: is Saint Francis H Brooklyn alum. Wrong, Saint Francis, that's
- 32:22Speaker 2: not the team that's in. Which team is in from Pennsylvania?
- 32:24Speaker 1: I think I see, yes, yes, from Pennsylvania. A famous
- 32:30Speaker 1: A couple of famous NBA players played for Saint Francis.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Norm Vanley had the great plunt guard for the Bulls.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Maurice Stokes, who played in the NBA before he suffered
- 32:40Speaker 1: a career ending injury in the mid fifties, played for
- 32:43Speaker 1: Saint Francis Pennsylvania.
- 32:47Speaker 2: By the way, this thing with the UNC being in
- 32:49Speaker 2: the first four, it almost could backfire, right because if
- 32:53Speaker 2: they lose the first game, then peop they're really going
- 32:57Speaker 2: to start to say, well, why wasn't this given to
- 32:58Speaker 2: a better competitive team. That's the next question we're gonna
- 33:02Speaker 2: have if they lose tonight.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Without a doubt, without a doubt. They've left themselves wide
- 33:07Speaker 1: open for that. So yeah, so that's the hockey deal.
- 33:12Speaker 1: The Devils are are doing a good job considering they
- 33:15Speaker 1: have no Jack Hughes, no Doug Dougie Hamilton for the
- 33:19Speaker 1: rest of the year, no Jason siegan Thaler, who's a
- 33:23Speaker 1: first rate defensive defenseman. Jacob Marstrom hasn't played as well
- 33:28Speaker 1: as he did before his injury. They need him in
- 33:30Speaker 1: top for him, but they'll they'll, they'll, they'll get in.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I don't know how far they can go. Same thing
- 33:39Speaker 1: with if the Rangers getting I don't know, if the
- 33:41Speaker 1: Rangers win four, four out of seven.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing. A dark garden in the spring
- 33:48Speaker 2: just makes no sense to me when it comes to hockey.
- 33:51Speaker 2: We always playoff hockey here. It's gonna be very weird
- 33:55Speaker 2: if that's not the key well, but I think we
- 33:58Speaker 2: have to be racing for that reality, right Yeah, And.
- 34:01Speaker 1: We obviously in October we never thought we would be
- 34:03Speaker 1: talking like this here.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Miller, I don't know if you saw the game a
- 34:07Speaker 2: little bit. Miller got injured tonight, so that's not good.
- 34:10Speaker 2: He's one of your keystones right now. And if he's
- 34:13Speaker 2: injured looks like that slashed uh in the first period.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I know it was two to one. They
- 34:22Speaker 1: were trailing Calgary in the first period. But that that
- 34:25Speaker 1: that was it. One last thing real quick. I don't
- 34:30Speaker 1: know what the New York Giants are doing. They're bringing
- 34:33Speaker 1: in Jamis Winston. That's fine. They want to but again,
- 34:37Speaker 1: they gotta make a decision. They can't wait for Wilson,
- 34:40Speaker 1: Russell Wilson. They can't wait for Aaron Rodgers. First of all,
- 34:44Speaker 1: they got to bite the bullet. They gotta sign somebody.
- 34:47Speaker 1: And if Brian Dable and Joe Shane are worried about
- 34:53Speaker 1: their jobs and they want to sign the best quarterback
- 34:57Speaker 1: because I need to win some games, it's not gonna
- 35:00Speaker 1: work out. And if John Mara says, you know, says hey,
- 35:06Speaker 1: you gotta win games, all right, then they neither Aaron
- 35:08Speaker 1: Rodgers or or Russell Wilson. How many more games are
- 35:11Speaker 1: gonna win, Alex, I don't know. They won three last
- 35:14Speaker 1: year or are they gonna win five? Did you see
- 35:16Speaker 1: their home schedule? Their home schedule is a bear. They
- 35:22Speaker 1: may not win a home game.
- 35:24Speaker 2: And like almost like this year. If they didn't like
- 35:27Speaker 2: this year, actually.
- 35:29Speaker 1: So John Mara has to make a decision if you
- 35:33Speaker 1: want to draft the best player, because we don't even
- 35:36Speaker 1: know when they draft number three, if the quarterback that
- 35:40Speaker 1: they pick, whether it's Ward or Sanders or somebody else,
- 35:44Speaker 1: is the right quarterback in what is supposed to be
- 35:46Speaker 1: a down quarterback year.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Now, the one that told me they could actually if
- 35:50Speaker 2: dem were one who trade up for number one is that.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Well, Tennessee said that they would be open to trading
- 35:56Speaker 1: the number one pick to anybody now almost if they're
- 36:00Speaker 1: just trying to feel them to feel out o their
- 36:02Speaker 1: NFL teams, But.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Gime Bans would love it. Molie Neighbors traded for one
- 36:09Speaker 2: draft pick. The Mayors would be run out of town
- 36:11Speaker 2: if that happened.
- 36:12Speaker 1: You know, they're not doing They're not doing that. But
- 36:15Speaker 1: and again, maybe John Marris just gives Joe Shane and
- 36:19Speaker 1: Brian Dable an extension so the pressure is off, so
- 36:23Speaker 1: they draft the best guy at three, whether it's that
- 36:26Speaker 1: Blue Carter from Penn State or or one of the
- 36:30Speaker 1: interior linemen, the kids from Michigan Graham or or the
- 36:35Speaker 1: cornerback from Michigan Will Johnson or somebody else.
- 36:39Speaker 2: By the way Cincinnati's doing right by Burrow and by
- 36:42Speaker 2: Higgins to bring both those guys back, and I think
- 36:46Speaker 2: to a chase as well. It's smart. You want to
- 36:49Speaker 2: keep that core together as long as you can. So
- 36:51Speaker 2: kudos to Bengals upper mentement.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Yeah, but now the Bengals have to strengthen their defense.
- 36:56Speaker 1: The Bengals can't be scoring thirty five points a game,
- 36:59Speaker 1: man keep and lose thirty seven thirty five?
- 37:01Speaker 2: Right, you know? And by the way, if it wasn't
- 37:04Speaker 2: for Burrow, they hadn't even been in playoff contention this year.
- 37:07Speaker 2: By the way, so oh, there's.
- 37:08Speaker 1: No doubt about it. He was one of the most
- 37:09Speaker 1: valuable players in the league.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Kudos to him. All right, you mentioned Marror and we
- 37:14Speaker 2: did not touch about this at all. I don't even
- 37:16Speaker 2: know New York sports fans really know this unless they
- 37:19Speaker 2: follow day to day. Mara sold off ten percent of
- 37:23Speaker 2: the Giants. Is that right? Is there a minority stake?
- 37:26Speaker 2: What does that mean to you?
- 37:28Speaker 1: Well? I did, I don't know if if the if
- 37:33Speaker 1: a seal has gone through, I know they've offered ten
- 37:35Speaker 1: percent of the team. What it means to me that
- 37:39Speaker 1: the Giants are worth a lot of money and he
- 37:41Speaker 1: wants to cash in.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Yeah, he won't ever relinquish what his father is.
- 37:45Speaker 1: He will he will never he'll they'll never do that.
- 37:48Speaker 1: They'll never do that. They'll always be in control of
- 37:51Speaker 1: the team.
- 37:52Speaker 2: That's right. Soever flies the plane five weeks in a
- 37:55Speaker 2: row around the stadium. The marors are not selling the team, Yes,
- 38:01Speaker 2: but no, it's it was interesting to see that. And
- 38:04Speaker 2: I often wonder, and partly because my religion with the
- 38:08Speaker 2: Simon from I have to wonder if they're gonna sell
- 38:10Speaker 2: off a bit of that team at some point too.
- 38:11Speaker 2: You never know.
- 38:12Speaker 1: It could happen, of course, Alex. Everything comes to an end.
- 38:16Speaker 2: There are minority holders there already, but not to that
- 38:19Speaker 2: extended ten percent that I know of, So you never know.
- 38:23Speaker 2: But the Giants doing that, I think was music to
- 38:25Speaker 2: fansy years, like, oh are they gonna sell? I don't
- 38:26Speaker 2: think they're gonna sell the team. There's not gonna be
- 38:28Speaker 2: an outright sale of the New York Giants here, stupid.
- 38:32Speaker 2: That is not happening now on your side of the field.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Justin Field's coming in. I mean, look, whether it was
- 38:41Speaker 2: the Bears management of him or whatever, is he not
- 38:45Speaker 2: reached his potential? Is the Jets gonna be his potential
- 38:48Speaker 2: right now or what?
- 38:49Speaker 1: Well, it goes to show you that there's such a
- 38:52Speaker 1: lack of quarterback talent in the league. He's twenty six
- 38:56Speaker 1: years old. This is going to be his third team
- 38:59Speaker 1: in three years, two years ago to Bears, the Steelers
- 39:02Speaker 1: last year, and now the Jets. Only two year contract.
- 39:06Speaker 1: So the commitment is not a killer Again, Am I thrilled?
- 39:12Speaker 1: Am I excited? Was it? Am I excited like they
- 39:16Speaker 1: were two years ago before Aaron Rodgers snapped his achilles? No,
- 39:19Speaker 1: I was excited then, I'm not excited excited now. First
- 39:23Speaker 1: of all, the roster is not as good as it
- 39:25Speaker 1: was two years ago, but new coaching staff, new general
- 39:30Speaker 1: manager maybe felt tap his potential. I don't know, Alex
- 39:37Speaker 1: all right.
- 39:37Speaker 2: One last thing being of because when you think about
- 39:41Speaker 2: whether fans are gonna show up at the games, I
- 39:42Speaker 2: guess they will. But I'm just thinking about the Big
- 39:45Speaker 2: East one more time. Johnny's played a twelve o'clock game again,
- 39:50Speaker 2: you know, to open their Big East tournament, and it
- 39:53Speaker 2: was barely full. Should these these leagues do it based
- 39:58Speaker 2: on Hey, if a local team who's like number one
- 40:02Speaker 2: in the conference, we should do that at night, so
- 40:04Speaker 2: fans could go or what's the Is there an issue
- 40:06Speaker 2: with that?
- 40:08Speaker 1: It's the regular season champion. As you know, when we
- 40:14Speaker 1: carry the games always play at twelve o'clock. They do
- 40:19Speaker 1: it based on league standings, not based on on the
- 40:25Speaker 1: fact that Saint John's plays in Masson Square Garden, which
- 40:30Speaker 1: that home field advantage helped them in that run Saturday night.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, If that game.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Was in Omaha, Saint John's might have lost.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Well, it was fun. It was quite a few days
- 40:44Speaker 2: for the Garden. You had the Johnny's winning, you had
- 40:48Speaker 2: the Rangers wrapping the bed the next night, and then
- 40:51Speaker 2: you had Tracy Morgan throwing up at the Nick game.
- 40:53Speaker 2: What a three day stretch for the Garden. And man,
- 40:56Speaker 2: I'll tell you.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Poor Tracy Morgan food poisoning, throwing up on the floor
- 41:00Speaker 1: next to STEVIEE, Sharippa.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Buddy, Kenny Albert. How to watch that because it's right
- 41:05Speaker 2: next to him? Oh my god, God, something else.
- 41:10Speaker 1: The Guard.
- 41:12Speaker 2: It's really Dolan's world. What about Jerry's world? This is
- 41:14Speaker 2: Dolan's world. I swear to god.
- 41:15Speaker 1: It really Tracy Mark. I mean he's gone through he's
- 41:18Speaker 1: gone through a lot of a lot he's gone through hell,
- 41:21Speaker 1: that poor guy.
- 41:22Speaker 2: But it did overshout the fact that Tounds I saw
- 41:25Speaker 2: in the highlights man another big three. So that acquisition
- 41:28Speaker 2: continues to work for the Knicks. And I don't want
- 41:32Speaker 2: to hear about this heart Dibideau situation. Just let the
- 41:37Speaker 2: guys play, okay, and maybe we don't make stupid comments
- 41:40Speaker 2: about playing time and just play the game. I don't know,
- 41:42Speaker 2: what do you think?
- 41:43Speaker 1: Again? And coaches and players argue all the time. It
- 41:48Speaker 1: happens all the time. I don't think it's a big deal.
- 41:51Speaker 1: What native a bigger deal is? It came a couple
- 41:53Speaker 1: of days after Bridges saying, hey, you gotta give us
- 41:56Speaker 1: some rest, and that back happening back to back is
- 42:02Speaker 1: what exasperated the situation.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Again for Nick Fineroul thinks they'd be better off with
- 42:08Speaker 2: the Thibodeaux. I have a I have to say that's
- 42:11Speaker 2: not the case. He's a very good coach.
- 42:13Speaker 1: He's a very good coach, no quite, no doubt about it.
- 42:16Speaker 1: He's a very good coach. And we'll see. It's all
- 42:21Speaker 1: about the players for the Necks, you know, That's what
- 42:23Speaker 1: it's all about.
- 42:24Speaker 2: The playoffs, all right? One last thing and This is
- 42:26Speaker 2: a garden story because I was there the day Gretzky
- 42:29Speaker 2: lunging up twenty six years ago. Now this year, uh,
- 42:33Speaker 2: twenty six years later, the Great eight is literally eight
- 42:37Speaker 2: or seven goals away. Can he do it in twenty
- 42:40Speaker 2: four to twenty five? Is this a possibility or what?
- 42:44Speaker 1: I never would doubt him. I mean, when he broke
- 42:47Speaker 1: his leg early in the season and missed sixteen games,
- 42:51Speaker 1: I thought he was going to miss morning sixteen games.
- 42:54Speaker 1: It's gonna be close to get it this year. Obviously
- 42:58Speaker 1: he's gonna get it. He's gonna go over, gonna go
- 43:00Speaker 1: well over nine hundred goals. Uh. The fact that he's
- 43:04Speaker 1: done it in a more defensive era with better goaltending
- 43:08Speaker 1: than Gretzky did it, who did in the uh offensive
- 43:12Speaker 1: era of of NHL hockey, is UH is an accomplishment, Alex.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I thought that was an unbreakable record. I really did.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Now Gretzky has over two thousand points lifetime. That record
- 43:26Speaker 1: is unbreakable. Nobody's gonna come close to that. But uh,
- 43:30Speaker 1: Ovechkin is the best goal scorer I've ever seen in
- 43:34Speaker 1: UH in the six decades I've been watching hockey.
- 43:38Speaker 2: And I'm gonna see the score tonight because they are
- 43:40Speaker 2: playing tonight against Detroit. I don't know, but we'll have
- 43:43Speaker 2: to see Lewis. He's gonna be fun. And another colleague
- 43:46Speaker 2: of mine, Ryan, who you know you've talked to, says, well,
- 43:49Speaker 2: what if April fifth against the Islanders he has a
- 43:53Speaker 2: I mean, imagine on ubs he has a chance to
- 43:55Speaker 2: do this.
- 43:55Speaker 1: It would be that would be that would be, that
- 43:58Speaker 1: would be great. And yeah, he has to do it
- 44:01Speaker 1: April fifth. But the guy, you know hit a goal
- 44:05Speaker 1: scorer who hits him. I mean, you look at his
- 44:09Speaker 1: career hit total. It's way up there. So he's not
- 44:14Speaker 1: just a guy who you know, is doing the ice
- 44:17Speaker 1: capades out there looking you.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Can say Retzky was a showman on the ice like
- 44:22Speaker 2: he was. He was more of a respectable good guy.
- 44:24Speaker 2: I remember him hitting many people in his time.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Yeah, he was. First of all, he wasn't built that
- 44:28Speaker 1: way even till even till his last game. He wasn't
- 44:33Speaker 1: the goal scorer those last couple of years that he was,
- 44:36Speaker 1: but he was still an amazing passer, right.
- 44:41Speaker 2: I don't know. He he always when they do these
- 44:43Speaker 2: documentaries about it always seems reflective, like, well, when I passed.
- 44:47Speaker 2: I think it was full. He was very respectable of it,
- 44:50Speaker 2: and he just sounds so reflective. But I also don't
- 44:52Speaker 2: think he thought anybody would break it, to be honest.
- 44:54Speaker 1: With you, No, I didn't. I thought it was an
- 44:57Speaker 1: unbreakable record. I really did.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Gretzky might have too, I don't know. But you know,
- 45:02Speaker 2: it's gonna be interesting to see that play out. That
- 45:05Speaker 2: is a storyline, and we'll see if he has one
- 45:08Speaker 2: more one leg up on the record as we hit
- 45:11Speaker 2: the Easter almost here.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Right, he'll either do it before Easter or he'll do
- 45:15Speaker 1: it before Halloween in the first month and next season.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Yes, God willing right anyway, Louke Terminello, thank you as always,
- 45:24Speaker 2: and enjoy the tournament. We'll be back with you with
- 45:26Speaker 2: more as the tournament progresses. And I got a pitch
- 45:30Speaker 2: today saying would you like to host from the Devils? Actually,
- 45:34Speaker 2: would you like to host an event at at Newark
- 45:39Speaker 2: at Prudential Center, And it says perform on the concourse
- 45:43Speaker 2: with music or dance group. Well, we don't have a
- 45:45Speaker 2: dance group or a music group. We do have a podcast.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Should I look at that for the tournament as well?
- 45:51Speaker 1: That's it. You know a couple of people know me
- 45:53Speaker 1: in that Newick area, so you know, if.
- 45:56Speaker 2: You want to fund the show, why not, right, Come
- 45:59Speaker 2: on anyway, lud Terminila Terminal's take. Thanks for joining me tonight, Alex.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Thank you so much. I appreciate and have a great night.
- 46:07Speaker 2: That was a terminal's take on the One leg Up
- 46:10Speaker 2: Network
