- 1:20Tom Jackobs: So Roudy, welcome to the show.
- 1:22Roudy Nassif: Hey Tom, thank you for having me.
- 1:23Tom Jackobs: So glad to have you here.
- 1:25Tom Jackobs: I've been really interested in the light therapy and using the glasses that you're wearing right now as well.
- 1:32Tom Jackobs: And just the science behind that.
- 1:34Tom Jackobs: So I'm really excited about today's conversation, but also heart side of that business as well.
- 1:38Tom Jackobs: But the first question I always like to ask is, what's your definition of a heart-led business?
- 1:45Roudy Nassif: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:46Roudy Nassif: That's an amazing question.
- 1:47Roudy Nassif: So business is an interesting word and it has.
- 1:51Roudy Nassif: Also a bad connotation because oftentimes when we hear the word business, people think about robbery or stealing or taking someone's else money.
- 2:01Roudy Nassif: And through my own journey, I have proved to myself and I realized that business is the absolute opposite of that.
- 2:11Roudy Nassif: Business means to be of service to others.
- 2:14Roudy Nassif: And in order to be of service to others, you must first connect.
- 2:21Roudy Nassif: With what is it that you truly love serving others with?
- 2:26Roudy Nassif: And that is that must come from the heart.
- 2:29Roudy Nassif: It can't come from anywhere else.
- 2:30Roudy Nassif: And through my own journey, when I start my own business, it came because of.
- 2:38Roudy Nassif: Absolute tragedy and pain and ache.
- 2:40Roudy Nassif: So it wasn't like I was doing some research to figure out what's what's trending and how can I make money.
- 2:48Roudy Nassif: It was absolutely something very personal that touched my own personal life and that led through my own healing from ADHD depression and suicidal depression into rediscovering really.
- 3:03Roudy Nassif: Who I am and why I'm here, and realigning again with living in alignment with nature because growing up throughout my life, I completely lost that.
- 3:18Roudy Nassif: And it wasn't until a moment hit that was really challenging for me.
- 3:26Roudy Nassif: And I recall that moment very well.
- 3:29Roudy Nassif: I was literally in a dark basement in Canada, 1:00 AM 2017, and I'm laying down next to my former partner in our dark basement, scrolling through my phone and the blue light is shining on my face, and my mind is spinning.
- 3:44Roudy Nassif: My heart is racing, my eyes are burning, and I'm feeling drained mentally and physically, but I'm wired and I can't stop scrolling.
- 3:55Roudy Nassif: Now.
- 3:55Roudy Nassif: Suddenly a video popped up on my feed.
- 3:59Roudy Nassif: And I almost skipped the video, but then something makes me click and it says, artificial light is killing us.
- 4:07Roudy Nassif: And I was squeezing my brain, barely understanding what Dr.
- 4:10Roudy Nassif: Jack Kruse is saying.
- 4:12Roudy Nassif: But then I wake up the second day and there's this one sentence that keeps echoing in my mind, and it says, you can't get healthy in the same light environment that made you sick.
- 4:25Roudy Nassif: And I was sick.
- 4:26Roudy Nassif: And I was like, oh, wow.
- 4:27Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 4:29Roudy Nassif: Could this be the reason why I've been struggling with constant lack of energy depression and fatigue.
- 4:38Roudy Nassif: I've never heard anything like this before.
- 4:41Roudy Nassif: So from this moment on, and for the past seven years, I start studying the light problem and.
- 4:49Roudy Nassif: That is essentially what led me to found a company to solve it, and I'd be unrealistic if I tell you that in that moment I was connected to my heart.
- 4:59Roudy Nassif: I was so much connected to my pain, and my pain somehow led me to my heart.
- 5:08Roudy Nassif: Once I was in connection with my heart, once I understood that the quality of our life is entirely dependent on the quality of the light that is entering our eyes, I became unstoppable because I was able to prove that to myself through a personal journey on a farm where I lived with indigenous people in a way that is in complete alignment with nature's light and dark cycles.
- 5:30Roudy Nassif: And I was able to reverse all of my issues and I couldn't help it, but.
- 5:36Roudy Nassif: Connect to that place in my heart that wanted to share this with everybody in the world.
- 5:40Roudy Nassif: I wanted every kid.
- 5:41Roudy Nassif: I wanted every parent.
- 5:43Roudy Nassif: I want every person to understand that the light that is entering their eyes is not only allowing us to see the world around us, it's not only for vision, it's, it is in fact programming.
- 5:54Roudy Nassif: Every hormone in our body, and it's controlling the way we think, the way we feel, the way we act via neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin, beta, endorphins, all of which are enriched when we get sunlight through our eyes.
- 6:10Roudy Nassif: And interestingly, there's so many studies showing that when artificial light after the sunset enter our eyes.
- 6:18Roudy Nassif: Dr.
- 6:18Roudy Nassif: Samer Hattar among many.
- 6:20Roudy Nassif: He showed that there's an area in the brain called the habenula.
- 6:24Roudy Nassif: It's known as the disappointment center.
- 6:27Roudy Nassif: And when this blue light enter our eyes after the sunset, it activates the habenula and it suppresses the release of dopamine the second day, meaning that we will wake up feeling much less motivated, much less energized, and we'll struggle to go after what we really want in life, which is something I really struggled with for so many years.
- 6:48Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 6:49Tom Jackobs: Wow.
- 6:50Tom Jackobs: And going back to what you said, the definition of a heart-led business is service.
- 6:55Tom Jackobs: And then I really like the.
- 6:57Tom Jackobs: analogy that you put, like you don't go into business just because that's what's trending and that's what's make what you can make money.
- 7:06Tom Jackobs: Some of the best businesses that are out there are ones that.
- 7:10Tom Jackobs: Find a problem and solve the problem.
- 7:12Tom Jackobs: Kinda like what you've done, right?
- 7:14Tom Jackobs: You've had the problem and you've solved it through the light, but what a fascinating journey to and how ironic it is that you saw that video while scrolling on your phone getting all those blue lights in your eyes as well.
- 7:29Tom Jackobs: Good thing that you did as well.
- 7:31Tom Jackobs: How long did it take going from kinda that moment to actually starting the business?
- 7:37Roudy Nassif: Yeah, that's a really good question.
- 7:39Roudy Nassif: So essentially when I watched that video about few weeks after that moment I was living with my former partner in our dark basement in Canada, and I was, as I mentioned, suicidally depressive.
- 7:52Roudy Nassif: So my former partner.
- 7:54Roudy Nassif: Was really desperate.
- 7:57Roudy Nassif: She wanted to help me.
- 7:58Roudy Nassif: She come, she comes to me with an unexpected surprise.
- 8:01Roudy Nassif: She says, Hey, Roudy, pack your stuff.
- 8:02Roudy Nassif: We're going to volunteer on an organic farm in northern Quebec.
- 8:07Roudy Nassif: And in that moment I'm like really in that thinking like, how the heck shoveling cow manure is going to transform my life.
- 8:16Roudy Nassif: So essentially I was also desperate.
- 8:20Roudy Nassif: So I said, okay, let me try.
- 8:22Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 8:23Roudy Nassif: We we literally went in our car and we're driving for seven hours from Ontario to Quebec, and the car is bouncing on this dirt road.
- 8:32Roudy Nassif: And when we arrive at this farm, there is literally no electricity, no artificial light.
- 8:37Roudy Nassif: Just open pristine skies with twinkling stars and we set up our tent and the only source of light after the sunset was coming from the fire flickering in front of us.
- 8:51Roudy Nassif: Now that was day one, may, May, 2017.
- 8:55Roudy Nassif: I remember that morning very well.
- 8:57Roudy Nassif: I wake up extremely tired.
- 8:58Roudy Nassif: My, my body is resisting.
- 9:01Roudy Nassif: I don't want to be outside.
- 9:02Roudy Nassif: I don't wanna be around people.
- 9:03Roudy Nassif: Like the last thing I want is to talk to other people.
- 9:06Roudy Nassif: I'm feeling extremely depressed but then on day three something unexpected happens.
- 9:15Roudy Nassif: I woke up with no alarm clock and for the first time in my life, I felt like a surge of energy in my body.
- 9:22Roudy Nassif: My body feels alive, completely rested, overflowing with joy.
- 9:26Roudy Nassif: I couldn't help but smile.
- 9:28Roudy Nassif: I was like, whoa, this is new.
- 9:29Roudy Nassif: This is different.
- 9:30Roudy Nassif: And I stepped outside of my tent.
- 9:32Roudy Nassif: I opened the door and the word around me is glowing with the magic light of the dawn.
- 9:37Roudy Nassif: And I was like, whoa.
- 9:39Roudy Nassif: Like the birds are singing.
- 9:40Roudy Nassif: It's mesmerizing.
- 9:40Roudy Nassif: And I'm literally feeling alive for the first time ever in my adult life.
- 9:46Roudy Nassif: And what's really interesting that the night Owl and me who stayed up late until 2:00 AM.
- 9:50Roudy Nassif: Is now falling asleep shortly after the sunset, naturally.
- 9:56Roudy Nassif: And one morning when I was like working on the field within the crops the farmer walks over to me and he places his hand on my shoulder and he says, is Roudy, whoa.
- 10:08Roudy Nassif: What a powerful focus you have.
- 10:09Roudy Nassif: I've never seen anything like it.
- 10:12Roudy Nassif: And like in that moment I was like.
- 10:15Roudy Nassif: I went into a complete vacuum of nothingness, like literally I got sucked in.
- 10:20Roudy Nassif: And my paradigm of being the ADHD kid who can't focus the depressed guy who can't achieve anything, was literally getting chatted in front of my eyes.
- 10:31Roudy Nassif: And I was like, whoa.
- 10:33Roudy Nassif: Everything I thought to be wrong with me, my ADHD, my depression, my chronic fatigue.
- 10:37Roudy Nassif: It wasn't about me, it was my environment.
- 10:41Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 10:42Roudy Nassif: I stayed on this phone for six weeks, and then I came back to the city and within a matter of few weeks, I fell back into my old terrible routine.
- 10:52Roudy Nassif: It all comes crashing back at me my, my brain fog, my NightOwl tendency, my depression.
- 10:58Roudy Nassif: So in this moment I realized I need to go deeper, and I literally turned into a mad scientist.
- 11:05Roudy Nassif: I decided to continue traveling between the city and the farm, documenting every shift in my sleep and my energy and my mood, and devouring all the studies, all the books that I could find on the science of light so I could solve that light problem.
- 11:19Roudy Nassif: To answer your question, I kept in that cycle for about three or four years with literally zero intention of starting a business.
- 11:28Roudy Nassif: I was literally experimenting, studying light.
- 11:31Roudy Nassif: And I literally figured, like I, I start cracking out the code.
- 11:36Roudy Nassif: I could see that all the farmers that I went to volunteer with, they had a quality of light in their eyes that I've never seen in the community of folks who were following dogmatic and complicated diets.
- 11:48Roudy Nassif: And I start asking myself, whoa.
- 11:49Roudy Nassif: What's the difference?
- 11:51Roudy Nassif: What I realized that those farmers lived a balanced rhythmic lifestyle that I, that was in complete alignment with the rise and the fall of the sun.
- 12:00Roudy Nassif: So essentially sunlight dictated what they did throughout the day.
- 12:04Roudy Nassif: They spend their day outside forming and they ate when the sun is out and they fasted when the sun is down and they were never exposed to any form of artificial light after the sunset.
- 12:16Roudy Nassif: That was the time for them to rest, repair, and rejuvenate.
- 12:19Roudy Nassif: It was as simple as this.
- 12:21Roudy Nassif: And then I start finding like studies dating back in 1970s as an example one, one of which is by Dr.
- 12:28Roudy Nassif: Frisch from Germany, who actually stopped noticing that people who had cataracts in their eye, they meaning that light could not enter their eyes, their hormones were completely messed up.
- 12:41Roudy Nassif: Frisch always asked himself a very interesting question.
- 12:43Roudy Nassif: He said, okay, what will happen if we remove their cataracts?
- 12:46Roudy Nassif: And what happened was extremely surprising because their hormonal production got back to normal, literally.
- 12:53Roudy Nassif: And then he asked himself, okay, what will happen if I put a group of healthy people under fluorescent and LED lights?
- 13:03Roudy Nassif: And what he noticed is absolutely shocking because their body was literally reactive.
- 13:08Roudy Nassif: As though they were running away from a, because their cortisol was spiking because of all this blue light entering their eyes.
- 13:16Roudy Nassif: So essentially when I was discovering all of this, I started mapping out a series of specific steps that any person could take throughout the day to optimize their light environment.
- 13:28Roudy Nassif: And I also start learning about blue light blocking glasses.
- 13:33Roudy Nassif: I tried several frames and brands in the market and I could not find a pair that actually filtered out light intentionally in the way it was supposed to be filtered scientifically.
- 13:47Roudy Nassif: So that's when I, and still like throughout all this period for four or four and a half years, I was experimenting on my own.
- 13:54Roudy Nassif: Like I had zero intention to start a business.
- 13:57Roudy Nassif: And shortly after I met a.
- 14:00Roudy Nassif: Optical engineer from Florida who learned about my story and got really intrigued and he agreed to help me.
- 14:07Roudy Nassif: So essentially for it was a long process of nine months of trial and error, and picture me in my garage wearing gloves, face mask on, hunched over manually tinting lenses from morning till night, and
- 14:22Tom Jackobs: Oh
- 14:22Roudy Nassif: nine months of failing over and over again.
- 14:25Roudy Nassif: Bam! We got the first circadian lenses that actually was able to block the right amount of artificial light at different times of the day.
- 14:33Roudy Nassif: And that was the first pair that I was personally using.
- 14:36Roudy Nassif: When I noticed the benefits, I decided to make 30 pairs and I start handing them over to friends and family because I start noticing that all of my friends and family, they had a light problem.
- 14:49Roudy Nassif: Some of them have had digestive issues, acne, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression.
- 14:55Roudy Nassif: But at the core of it, when I dig deep, I would notice that all of them lived in a way that is complete, completely misaligned with the sunlight and darkness.
- 15:06Roudy Nassif: I start handing them over the glasses.
- 15:08Roudy Nassif: I had shared with them seven steps to harnessing the power of light, which if you'd I could also share that on the podcast.
- 15:14Roudy Nassif: And then I start noticing that all of them began to reverse their issues.
- 15:18Roudy Nassif: For example, my mom, who had struggled with insomnia for over eight years, literally start sleeping for eight hours every single night.
- 15:26Roudy Nassif: Within a few weeks, my sister who had acne and chronic fatigue is now one of the most.
- 15:34Roudy Nassif: Energetic and powerful entrepreneur that I know, and many of my friends who had digestive issues started reversing their issues without changing their diet.
- 15:43Roudy Nassif: So at this point I realized, oh wow, it wasn't only a personal thing anymore, it was transforming the life of others.
- 15:50Roudy Nassif: And that's when my sister Joy was, my business partner came in and she had to really convince me to start the business.
- 15:58Roudy Nassif: But now years and, yeah, like seriously, like at that point I didn't have a phone, I didn't have a laptop, and I was literally filming all the time, like I was living in completely outside of the Matrix.
- 16:11Roudy Nassif: But now three years and I'm more convinced than ever before because I could see that all of us have a light problem and I feel this immense heart centered.
- 16:22Roudy Nassif: Responsibility and purpose within myself to help people know the truth there is to light and the power that I holds in our life.
- 16:32Roudy Nassif: That light is not only something that we turn on and off that allow us to see the room around us.
- 16:37Roudy Nassif: The moment we turn on the light, we are literally turning on.
- 16:40Roudy Nassif: Different hormones that are either serving us or disrupting our life.
- 16:45Roudy Nassif: And my life's mission is to help people understand this and to help them harness the power of light so that they can achieve whatever they wanna achieve, whether it's a business or relationship or health goals.
- 16:58Roudy Nassif: And then eliminate the sabotaging frequency of light that we're all exposed to from LEDs and computers.
- 17:06Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 17:06Tom Jackobs: Wow.
- 17:07Tom Jackobs: That's gonna be quite the challenge because these devices are all around us, but let's, I wanna dive into the business side of it.
- 17:15Tom Jackobs: So no phone, no laptop, no business education, I'm guessing either, your sister's like you're gonna go into business.
- 17:26Tom Jackobs: How did that, come about and how long did it take to get the business started and all that?
- 17:32Roudy Nassif: Yeah, absolutely.
- 17:32Roudy Nassif: That's a great question.
- 17:33Roudy Nassif: So at that point, as you mentioned, no phone, no computer, no bank account, and I was completely unplugged from the whole matrix.
- 17:42Roudy Nassif: Like literally like the idea of registering a business and doing all the paperwork was bringing me a lot of anxiety, however.
- 17:49Tom Jackobs: Yep.
- 17:50Roudy Nassif: When we are operating from the heart, that drive and purpose that is from within us could literally overcome any obstacle.
- 17:57Roudy Nassif: And this is what really surprised me when I hear about people who are following trends, because you may follow trends and you may make some money.
- 18:05Roudy Nassif: However, it's not sustainable because.
- 18:08Roudy Nassif: As you may know, Tom, in any business, there's tremendous amount of problems that are continuously popping up and some of which are things you like to do, some of which are things you hate to do.
- 18:19Roudy Nassif: And what I have learned in my life is that if I did not have that purpose and inspiration and a true drive.
- 18:27Roudy Nassif: Of seeing what the future is gonna be in 50, 60, 70, 80 years from now, which is essentially driving me, I will have not been able to overcome all these issues, all these obstacles, all the difficulties and the tragedies that happen daily as the business is running.
- 18:45Tom Jackobs: Yeah, and I wanna kinda dive into that just a little bit for the listeners to really digest that as well the, SBA, Small Business Administration says there's.
- 18:59Tom Jackobs: 20% of the businesses go out of business in the first year and 90% in 10 years.
- 19:06Tom Jackobs: I think a lot of that, especially in that first year, is a lot of people that are chasing those trends, chasing the dollars and not having that purpose.
- 19:14Tom Jackobs: So when those difficult things happen, which again, you're spot on all the time, something's happening.
- 19:22Tom Jackobs: If it's too much, then they're just gonna go, yeah, I'm not interested.
- 19:25Tom Jackobs: I'm, I don't have the purpose, I don't have the drive behind it.
- 19:29Tom Jackobs: that's something when you're going into business, and this really for the listeners, is to be sure that you have that purpose behind you and that drive so that when you do have those hard times, it's not gonna put you out of business.
- 19:42Roudy Nassif: Yes
- 19:43Tom Jackobs: That's a great point that you brought up.
- 19:45Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 19:45Roudy Nassif: absolutely.
- 19:45Tom Jackobs: that.
- 19:46Roudy Nassif: What I'd like to mention is that at that point I was essentially recovering from seven or eight years of deep depression, suicidal depression, which literally completely destroyed my ability to learn and to evolve myself.
- 20:01Roudy Nassif: To acquire knowledge in different areas.
- 20:04Roudy Nassif: And when you start a business, there's a tremendous amount of things that you need to become good at in order to run the business.
- 20:11Roudy Nassif: However, what I will say that technique is important, strategy is important, but none of which are essential to actually driving a business and succeeding in a business because all of those will come as a secondary, as the effect.
- 20:29Roudy Nassif: Of the number one cause of following your heart.
- 20:33Roudy Nassif: If you are following your heart, you can achieve anything you could you set your mind into.
- 20:37Roudy Nassif: There's nothing that you cannot achieve.
- 20:39Roudy Nassif: However, if you're just following trends, the amount of things that you need to learn and the amount of like willpower and discipline that you need to apply towards yourself is.
- 20:51Roudy Nassif: Literally torturing to the point that you will not be able to sustain yourself.
- 20:56Roudy Nassif: There must be something within you on the inside that is flaming, that is burning, that will allow you to sustain yourself throughout all these torturing times.
- 21:06Roudy Nassif: When things go really wrong.
- 21:09Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 21:09Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 21:10Tom Jackobs: So well put.
- 21:12Tom Jackobs: Thank you.
- 21:12Tom Jackobs: So when you did finally start the business, like how much of a learning curve was that for you and a struggle in those first couple months?
- 21:24Roudy Nassif: Yeah, so pretty much out of a hundred I had to learn a hundred things.
- 21:28Roudy Nassif: There was no one thing that I was familiar with.
- 21:31Roudy Nassif: Like the whole language of the business, the whole mindset.
- 21:34Roudy Nassif: Also like the paperwork, some of some of the things that like I would have never imagined myself that I would be sitting and doing.
- 21:41Roudy Nassif: I actually disciplined myself and I sat down and I did.
- 21:44Roudy Nassif: And fundamentally, like I think that looking back right now, I could literally if I think about it from, with reason and I apply like reasoning there's no there's no straight line or like a method from this point to this point that I was like reasonably following in order to drive myself forward in the business.
- 22:13Roudy Nassif: So it was absolute chaos.
- 22:16Roudy Nassif: And it was only passion that was driving me.
- 22:20Roudy Nassif: And as this passion was moving me, I was, encountering wonderful people who were really good at what they were doing.
- 22:29Roudy Nassif: And I started observing and learning from them.
- 22:32Roudy Nassif: And then essentially I started like those people were absolutely essential because they will light up some blind spot that I could have never figured out on my own.
- 22:42Roudy Nassif: But the moment they will light up that blind spot for me, then what I would often do is that I would go and study as much as possible on that topic.
- 22:51Roudy Nassif: Or eventually when the business stopped making money, then I would hire people that are better than me and that I will delegate those tasks that I personally don't know how to do to them because it's essentially what they love to do.
- 23:05Roudy Nassif: And I'll try to keep myself in my own line and do what I love to do.
- 23:11Roudy Nassif: However I must say that throughout the four, four and a half years, I've done a lot of things that I didn't like to do that I wasn't good at, and that I became good at.
- 23:20Roudy Nassif: So I sometimes hear people saying about as business owners, we need to stay in our lane and only do the things we love to do.
- 23:28Roudy Nassif: And I don't think it works like this all of the time.
- 23:30Roudy Nassif: Oftentimes like 60 or 70% of the time you may be doing things that you really, you don't really like to do, and you need to talk yourself through that and then find love and then find.
- 23:43Roudy Nassif: Find the energy to actually, even though it's a task that you don't like there's a point in you somewhere where all resistance drops and where you could find love for that thing, even though it's difficult.
- 23:56Roudy Nassif: And I found that the more I did difficult things and the more I did things that I don't like and I don't love, the more I built my own character and the more my character became strong, the more I was able to essentially extend my own power into my business because essentially the business is only a reflection of who you really are and it could only grow as much as you are growing.
- 24:22Roudy Nassif: And I would never expect my business to, go beyond what, where I'm willing to go.
- 24:29Roudy Nassif: And it's, it'll always be a reflection of how much I'm willing to expand and how much I'm willing to grow and how much I'm willing to give from myself.
- 24:37Roudy Nassif: But at the core of, at the core of all of this is that desire to give to others, and that always come from the heart.
- 24:45Tom Jackobs: Yeah and it goes back to your original definition of a heart-led business of a business is about serving, people.
- 24:52Tom Jackobs: So that totally makes sense and is in alignment.
- 24:56Tom Jackobs: One thing that I wanna bring back up that you, you mentioned is and I think a lot of new business owners do not do what you were just describing.
- 25:05Tom Jackobs: What you did is when you had a difficult thing that you didn't know how to do, you dove deep into it and got educated on how to do it.
- 25:15Tom Jackobs: I think a lot of business owners, and this is where that failure comes up they skip that part.
- 25:20Tom Jackobs: They don't go too deep into it and learn how to get really good at it, or at least understand it to a point where when you do give it to somebody else, you know that they're doing the right thing.
- 25:30Tom Jackobs: I think that's another really great lesson for new business owners that have the purpose, the passion, but you don't have all the knowledge and do what Roudy did and just dive into that knowledge.
- 25:42Roudy Nassif: And as an example of this, I literally hated analytics and I hated the numbers and I didn't like systems and that was the, that was the least thing I would be like naturally oriented towards.
- 25:57Roudy Nassif: And it wasn't until I was studying different.
- 26:01Roudy Nassif: Books, for example, like one of the, one of the books that really was very powerful for me is a book called Scaling Up by Verne Harnish, where he essentially teaches you different steps that will allow you to literally systemize your business so that you could scale it.
- 26:19Roudy Nassif: But at that point.
- 26:20Tom Jackobs: Yep
- 26:21Roudy Nassif: a lot of the things that I had to do to implement this, those system did not come naturally to me.
- 26:27Roudy Nassif: And as an example of this in this system, there's something called a scorecard where you essentially pick a set of 15 to 20 metrics that will
- 26:38Tom Jackobs: Yep.
- 26:38Roudy Nassif: give you a pulse on how your business is moving.
- 26:42Roudy Nassif: And a good analogy for this is as a business owner, imagine yourself to be in a desert.
- 26:48Roudy Nassif: In a spot where there's no internet, no telephones, nothing.
- 26:52Roudy Nassif: And if a plane could come and fly overhead and drop a piece of paper with a set of metrics, okay, if like those metrics should be enough for you to look at this paper and have a pulse on whether the business is moving in the right direction or in the wrong direction.
- 27:09Roudy Nassif: And when I first heard this concept.
- 27:11Roudy Nassif: I knew it's a very powerful concept, and I knew that I needed it, but every cell in my body resisted it because that meant that I needed to sit down and track different metrics, and that was something that did not come naturally to me, and I did not like to do it, and it was very time consuming.
- 27:28Roudy Nassif: And yet I kept.
- 27:31Roudy Nassif: I kept going in and out trying to do it, and then, feeling a lot of resistance and then moving away from it and then distracting myself with low level things just so I don't actually sit and do the thing.
- 27:42Roudy Nassif: But then I actually realized is that I was only moving away from the thing that was most powerful for my business in that moment.
- 27:51Roudy Nassif: And when I had that realization, I made the commitment that I'm going to take tiny steps every day in order to make myself better.
- 27:58Roudy Nassif: Actually sitting down and tracking those metrics that I need to track to have a pulse on my business.
- 28:04Roudy Nassif: And that worked very well for me because instead of making it really big in my head of looking at seven or eight books I need to read in order for me to become good at this, I broke it down into tiny actions that I could take every day, even for five minutes.
- 28:20Roudy Nassif: That would allow me to become a little, be a little bit better at this and that will.
- 28:25Roudy Nassif: Continue to help me to maintain that momentum day after day until I really became very good at it.
- 28:31Roudy Nassif: I became very fast at it, and sure enough, I realized that it was the one thing that my business needed to essentially take break through from the point where I was to, to the point where I'm actually in this moment.
- 28:45Tom Jackobs: Oh, that's great.
- 28:46Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 28:47Tom Jackobs: And what a great realization.
- 28:49Tom Jackobs: And again, these are things that a lot of new business owners just don't really think about it.
- 28:54Tom Jackobs: And you have and you've conquered it, so that, that's really awesome.
- 28:58Tom Jackobs: And Roudy, it's, this conversation has been absolutely fantastic.
- 29:03Tom Jackobs: I can't believe the time has just flown by as, as it has.
- 29:06Tom Jackobs: But tell us how can people learn more about VivaRays and the work that you're doing around light and helping people with that.
- 29:15Roudy Nassif: Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:16Roudy Nassif: So our website is VivaRays.com, V-I-V-A-R-A-Y s.com.
- 29:21Roudy Nassif: And currently on our website, we sell the most advanced circadian glasses that I'm currently wearing, which filter out artificial light at different times of the day.
- 29:31Roudy Nassif: For example, the one I'm wearing right now, it harmonizes that inflammatory frequency that come from LED lights and screens and it make it, make that, narrow spike in blue light that has been shown to create inflammation.
- 29:43Roudy Nassif: More balanced with other frequencies of color just like we get from sunlight.
- 29:47Roudy Nassif: And this is a very powerful system because.
- 29:51Roudy Nassif: It doesn't only harmonize the blue light during the day.
- 29:54Roudy Nassif: It's designed to filter out that light at different times of the day.
- 29:58Roudy Nassif: So essentially there is the evening lenses, which you could just, seemingly clip onto the base frame and those,
- 30:05Tom Jackobs: that's cool.
- 30:05Roudy Nassif: They're designed to be worn after the sunset.
- 30:08Roudy Nassif: And the goal from these lenses is to eliminate all of the blue and part of the green, and to mimic the color temperature of the bonfire.
- 30:17Roudy Nassif: Why is that?
- 30:18Roudy Nassif: Because essentially when the sun sets light is information and it goes into your brain, it tells your body that the day is ending so that your cells stop secreting the right hormones.
- 30:31Roudy Nassif: So you can have deep, restful night's sleep.
- 30:34Roudy Nassif: But what happen is when we are exposed to all this artificial light, after the sensor, we send the wrong signal to the brain and we tell the brain it's daytime when it's actually nighttime.
- 30:45Roudy Nassif: And that start causing the secretion of the wrong hormones at the wrong time.
- 30:50Roudy Nassif: For example, the body starts secreting cortisol, the stress hormone, which essentially lead to the secretion of a hormone called ghrelin, which makes you hungry, where whereas at night, you're supposed to have high leptin, the satiety hormone that tells your brain that you're feeling full.
- 31:10Roudy Nassif: And it turns out that artificial light at night suppresses that leptin.
- 31:14Roudy Nassif: It literally drives you to open the fridge and start munching on food, and that explains why so many people stop having those intense food cravings as soon as they start watching that Netflix movie.
- 31:27Roudy Nassif: Essentially.
- 31:28Tom Jackobs: Makes sense.
- 31:29Roudy Nassif: There's like this snowball effect of hormones of the wrong hormones that stop getting secreted in the body when we are exposed to the wrong frequencies of light.
- 31:39Roudy Nassif: And that's the purpose of these lenses, to eliminate those frequencies.
- 31:42Roudy Nassif: And then finally, one hour before bedtime, you put the nighttime lenses.
- 31:46Roudy Nassif: And those eliminate all blue, all green, and they decrease the brightness by 15 times to tell the brain that it's actually fully nighttime.
- 31:54Roudy Nassif: We optimize melatonin, the sleep hormone, and also optimizes growth hormone and allows the body to tap into its natural ability to burn fat at night when we are sleeping instead of making fat at night because of the wrong frequencies of light.
- 32:10Roudy Nassif: So
- 32:11Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 32:11Roudy Nassif: you could learn all of this on our website as well as on our instagram page VivaRays.
- 32:19Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 32:20Tom Jackobs: Awesome.
- 32:20Tom Jackobs: We'll link all that up into the show notes as well.
- 32:23Tom Jackobs: And just real quick question on the glasses that you're wearing right now, and if people are watching this on YouTube, you can see that.
- 32:29Tom Jackobs: Do those have a small tint to it or a light.
- 32:32Roudy Nassif: Yes.
- 32:32Roudy Nassif: It has a very small light melanin pigmentation dye that is designed to, so if you ever measure the frequency of light that is coming from an LED bulb or a screen while you notice that
- 32:44Tom Jackobs: Yeah
- 32:45Roudy Nassif: it has a very narrow spike in blue light, not even full spectrum blue light.
- 32:49Roudy Nassif: And this blue light is not balanced with other frequencies of colors like the orange, yellow, and red light.
- 32:56Roudy Nassif: Whereas when you go outside in the sun, there's a lot of blue light.
- 33:00Roudy Nassif: You have full spectrum blue light, but this blue light is balanced with the opposite colors are the orange, red, and infrared, and those balance each other out.
- 33:09Roudy Nassif: And the tragedy during the day is when we are exposed to that narrow spike that is not and alignment with other frequencies, and that essentially causes inflammation, headaches, eye strain, et cetera.
- 33:20Tom Jackobs: Ah, okay.
- 33:21Tom Jackobs: And so with that light tint that you have on there now, that eliminates that one or that narrow frequency.
- 33:27Roudy Nassif: Yeah, essentially it doesn't eliminate it.
- 33:29Roudy Nassif: It absorbs it and it keeps the blue, but then it spread the blue across the spectrum, so you are also getting more of the yellow, orange, and red lights coming with the blue.
- 33:40Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 33:41Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 33:42Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 33:42Tom Jackobs: Nice.
- 33:43Tom Jackobs: And that's for use when you're in front of a computer or what have you.
- 33:47Tom Jackobs: You don't have to do that outside.
- 33:48Roudy Nassif: When you are exposed to
- 33:49Tom Jackobs: outside
- 33:49Roudy Nassif: sunlight only outside, essentially you don't want anything that blocks sunlight from entering your eyes, and that's why, for instance, sunglasses are one of the most dangerous in endocrine disruptor innovation.
- 34:03Roudy Nassif: We've ever start using.
- 34:04Roudy Nassif: And interestingly enough, there's a doctor, his name is Dr.
- 34:07Roudy Nassif: John Ott, back in the 1970s.
- 34:10Roudy Nassif: He, he has a phenomenal book called"Health and Light", but John Ott tapped into the power of light accidentally.
- 34:18Roudy Nassif: He was essentially struggling with arthritis for many years, and one day he went to the beach in Florida and he accidentally broke his sunglasses.
- 34:30Roudy Nassif: Now what he noticed by the end of the day will blow your mind.
- 34:34Roudy Nassif: John Ott noticed that his arthritis pain was decreasing, so he asked himself a very interesting question.
- 34:39Roudy Nassif: What is the relationship between breaking my sunglasses and this arthritis pain decreasing?
- 34:46Roudy Nassif: Was that by accident or was that actually, or was there something.
- 34:50Roudy Nassif: To, to the game out there that I don't know about.
- 34:53Roudy Nassif: And that took him down a rabbit hole of essentially investigating light.
- 35:00Roudy Nassif: And what he actually realizes that the same frequency that they told him it will kill him, which is UV light, which is very demonized.
- 35:08Roudy Nassif: And there's all these people telling you to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes.
- 35:12Roudy Nassif: It was the same frequency that healed him from arthritis four months after he eliminated sunglasses.
- 35:18Tom Jackobs: Wow.
- 35:19Tom Jackobs: That's crazy.
- 35:21Tom Jackobs: Yeah, it's amazing just how the body works and just our environment and all that.
- 35:26Tom Jackobs: Wow.
