- 0:00Speaker 1: I don't think the committee would leave out Ohio State
- 0:03Speaker 1: because of the backlash that they got for leaving out
- 0:05Speaker 1: Florida State. And you also have 12 teams now.
- 0:08Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 0:09Speaker 1: You know, that'll help. But if you're Ohio State and
- 0:13Speaker 1: let's say you go nine and three, but two of
- 0:15Speaker 1: those losses are without saying. And then now I don't
- 0:19Speaker 1: think saying comes back for the playoffs just for what
- 0:21Speaker 1: it's worth. But let's say he did. If you're the
- 0:24Speaker 1: committee and you see them lose two close games without
- 0:26Speaker 1: saying and then saying was supposed to come back for
- 0:28Speaker 1: the playoff, would you forgive those two losses? Would you say, hey,
- 0:32Speaker 1: we're not going to hold those two losses against them
- 0:34Speaker 1: because he wasn't there. And with him, they're a different team.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I'm not telling you what the committee– God, no one
- 0:40Speaker 1: knows what the committee is going to do on a
- 0:41Speaker 1: week-to-week basis or anything like that. But I could see
- 0:45Speaker 1: that argument, and I could see it also pissing people off.
- 0:48Speaker 1: But I could see that argument.
- 0:51Speaker 2: It's possible.
- 0:52Speaker 3: It's possible. The precedent is there for Florida State and
- 0:55Speaker 3: Jordan Travis. It's similar but different. It's like, oh, Florida
- 1:00Speaker 3: State was not given the benefit of the doubt or
- 1:02Speaker 3: the respect for what their resume had been during the
- 1:04Speaker 3: regular season. It's almost the inverse. It's like, well, it's
- 1:07Speaker 3: Ohio State. They'll figure it out if you let them in.
- 1:10Speaker 3: And then it's, oh, what's actually being reported? What's the
- 1:13Speaker 3: truth about Julian Sands' health? Is Columbus just going to
- 1:16Speaker 3: say smokescreens of like, hey, he's fine. He's going to
- 1:18Speaker 3: be fine for the playoff. And the truth is he's not.
- 1:20Speaker 3: and he's forced back too quickly or he's unavailable at all.
- 1:24Speaker 3: There's a lot of ways it could go.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Okay, they have to be, you're saying 9-3 and miss
- 1:28Speaker 2: the Big Ten title game, right?
- 1:31Speaker 3: Ohio State.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, because if they're 10-3 and they go to the
- 1:34Speaker 2: Big Ten title game and they lose that, they're 100% it.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Because Alabama is the factor of it from last season.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Yes, I agree.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I said at the start of the year, the two
- 1:46Speaker 2: teams that I would give grace to If they played
- 1:48Speaker 2: up to par... And lost two games... I mean lost
- 1:51Speaker 2: three games... Was Texas and Ohio State... Because they had
- 1:54Speaker 2: the two toughest schedules in college football....
- 1:57Speaker 3: Is it.
- 1:58Speaker 2: It has to be close though... Like you have to
- 2:01Speaker 2: lose on a game winning field goal to USC... And
- 2:04Speaker 2: a last second Hail Mary... By Tommy Carr in the game...
- 2:08Speaker 2: Then I would understand that being... If you're blown out
- 2:11Speaker 2: in two of those games... No... I'm sorry... I'm not
- 2:13Speaker 2: putting you in... There's no reason to... As much as
- 2:16Speaker 2: I think your schedule is tough... The outlook is if
- 2:19Speaker 2: I don't have saying out there and basically Jeremiah Smith's
- 2:22Speaker 2: gone at this point, he's not he's not a Heisman
- 2:25Speaker 2: finalist or anything along those lines. No, I don't put
- 2:27Speaker 2: you in the playoff at nine and three. It has
- 2:29Speaker 2: to look the part.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Sadly, I'll get right back to the clip with Tom
- 2:33Speaker 1: and Cole of the power to in just a moment.
- 2:36Speaker 1: But first, I want to give you a couple of picks. Now,
- 2:38Speaker 1: if you want to get all the picks, you got
- 2:39Speaker 1: to go watch the live show. the prize picks app,
- 2:42Speaker 1: all new users there play $ 5, get 150 in lineups instantly.
- 2:46Speaker 1: If you use code HMA and win your first $ 5 lineup,
- 2:50Speaker 1: give me the more on Trinidad's passing yards at 243.5,
- 2:54Speaker 1: just one yard away from that 244.5. Give me the
- 2:58Speaker 1: less on Arch Manning. Now I actually like Texas to
- 3:01Speaker 1: win this game, but I'm going to take the reverse
- 3:04Speaker 1: of what many people might think on the passing totals.
- 3:07Speaker 1: We also picked Arches passing touchdowns. We took Kiwan Lacey.
- 3:11Speaker 1: We took Trinidad's passing touchdowns. But I'm not telling you
- 3:13Speaker 1: what those picks are. You got to go watch the
- 3:14Speaker 1: live show to check it out. That's on College Football Addiction.
- 3:17Speaker 1: We appreciate you for watching. Make sure you're on the
- 3:19Speaker 1: PrizePicks app. Again, that code is HMA. And we'll see
- 3:22Speaker 1: you guys real soon. Yeah, I mean, I'm always going
- 3:25Speaker 1: to be the salty FSU fan. If they don't look
- 3:27Speaker 1: as good without him and he's not there, you can't
- 3:29Speaker 1: put him in. I don't care if they're 10-2. Like,
- 3:32Speaker 1: that would be my hard line of this is if...
- 3:36Speaker 1: if they mutter past a bad Oregon team, the way
- 3:40Speaker 1: that Florida state muttered past, you know, playing good defense
- 3:43Speaker 1: and winning 13 to 10, like the way that Florida
- 3:46Speaker 1: state did in the ACC championship, if they just clearly
- 3:49Speaker 1: don't look like the same team, I mean, it sucks,
- 3:52Speaker 1: but I'm fine leaving them out again. And that's just very,
- 3:56Speaker 1: if they don't look like a top 11 team in
- 3:58Speaker 1: this country without saying, then what are we doing? You know,
- 4:01Speaker 1: the precedent has been set. Now, if you can convince
- 4:04Speaker 1: yourself that they still look like a top 11 team,
- 4:07Speaker 1: And the Big Ten, you know, what's going to end
- 4:08Speaker 1: up happening is the Big Ten is not going to
- 4:10Speaker 1: have enough teams, you know, and so they're going to
- 4:12Speaker 1: want to get that third one in because Indiana and
- 4:14Speaker 1: UCLA make it. Then, yeah, if that's what they the
- 4:18Speaker 1: logic they go with, then that's fine. But I do
- 4:20Speaker 1: think it, you know, how it looks is important. Now,
- 4:23Speaker 1: like I said, the committee is going to do. Dumb things,
- 4:27Speaker 1: dumb things.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Whatever you think they'll do, they'll do the opposite.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, they're going to try and appease Ohio State. I mean,
- 4:33Speaker 1: they come out and go undefeated the rest of the
- 4:34Speaker 1: way they deserve to be in. But first of all,
- 4:38Speaker 1: we need to see that. We need to see what
- 4:39Speaker 1: it looks like. We need to see how all the
- 4:41Speaker 1: rest of it shakes out. We're talking about maybe three
- 4:43Speaker 1: Big 12 teams. We're talking about an SEC that's cannibalizing itself.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Does Wake Forest make it back up into this thing?
- 4:48Speaker 1: Does Notre Dame beat Miami to take up a spot?
- 4:51Speaker 1: There's a lot of other factors that go into this.
- 4:53Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, what they look like is really,
- 4:56Speaker 1: really important. So I don't know.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Is there a way that you can leave out, let's
- 5:02Speaker 2: say Ohio state at 10 and two, because it doesn't
- 5:06Speaker 2: look good, but it's because of, you can slide another
- 5:09Speaker 2: 10 and two team in there. So like the problem is,
- 5:12Speaker 2: is that in here, here's where you run into it.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Indiana doesn't have the head to head win over Ohio state.
- 5:17Speaker 2: So therefore, if they're both sitting with one conference loss,
- 5:19Speaker 2: Ohio state goes to the big 10 title game, but
- 5:22Speaker 2: humor me. Let's say that at this point, USC beats
- 5:27Speaker 2: Ohio State, and then they beat UCLA at the end
- 5:30Speaker 2: of the year. Well, UCLA may be undefeated, and that's
- 5:33Speaker 2: their only loss. What if USC goes to the Big
- 5:36Speaker 2: Ten title game? And at 10-2, and it looks sloppy
- 5:38Speaker 2: because of that, Ohio State can't go because they have
- 5:40Speaker 2: the head-to-head loss to USC. Can you slide USC in
- 5:44Speaker 2: and just leave Ohio State out? You still get a
- 5:48Speaker 2: third Big Ten team in. It's just not the pretty logo.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It's the other pretty logo.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Head-to-head should trump and if you win with a backup
- 5:55Speaker 1: quarterback then head-to-head should you know you looked good enough
- 5:59Speaker 1: to at least be better than that team i think
- 6:01Speaker 1: what you'd have to consider is what spots are already
- 6:04Speaker 1: taken up well the big 12 is going to get
- 6:06Speaker 1: one the acc is going to get one the big
- 6:08Speaker 1: 10 is going to get one let's say that's not
- 6:09Speaker 1: ohio state so you you're you're you got five right
- 6:12Speaker 1: you got your five conference champs and you know four
- 6:14Speaker 1: conference champs and your power fork Throw.
- 6:17Speaker 2: BYU in there at 11-1 because if Notre Dame somehow
- 6:20Speaker 2: gets in at 11-1, they'd have to get in at
- 6:23Speaker 2: 11-1 even if they don't go to the Big Ten
- 6:24Speaker 2: 12 title game. So that's two more.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yeah, Notre Dame and BYU. So you're up to seven.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Your SEC runner-up is almost assuredly going. I think you
- 6:33Speaker 1: just kind of accounted for your Big 12 runner-up, but
- 6:36Speaker 1: there is this scenario that we talked about with the
- 6:37Speaker 1: Big 12 getting three. I'm not willing to say that
- 6:40Speaker 1: that's a lock just yet, but it does exist. The
- 6:43Speaker 1: big 10 is going to get an extra one, whether
- 6:45Speaker 1: that's Ohio state or not. Let's say, let's call it
- 6:48Speaker 1: in UCLA right now. So then you're fighting this battle
- 6:51Speaker 1: of like, okay. Nine in three, Texas versus 10 into
- 6:56Speaker 1: Ohio state and having the head to head.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Texas gets it.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Certainly think Ohio state is out in that scenario. Does wake,
- 7:04Speaker 1: does wake forest run the table? If Wake goes 11-1
- 7:08Speaker 1: into the ACC championship and loses another close game to Miami,
- 7:13Speaker 1: are you kicking them out for only losing to the
- 7:15Speaker 1: number one team in the country twice?
- 7:17Speaker 2: What was the final? It's the big question. Because if
- 7:19Speaker 2: I'm going to penalize Ohio State for losing big, then
- 7:22Speaker 2: I can penalize Wake Forest for losing big.
- 7:25Speaker 1: They need to keep it within 14.
- 7:27Speaker 3: It depends on how it looks for Ohio State. If
- 7:31Speaker 3: it's Fahey, if it's somebody else at quarterback and it
- 7:33Speaker 3: looks terrible, then That whole offense is built around getting
- 7:37Speaker 3: the ball to number four aggressively. And if you can't
- 7:40Speaker 3: do that, and you still somehow survive and say it
- 7:44Speaker 3: is doubtful for the playoff stretch, I think the decision
- 7:47Speaker 3: could get made.
- 7:48Speaker 1: To be fair, we didn't talk about the SEC at
- 7:50Speaker 1: all here. There's a lot of SEC teams still alive
- 7:53Speaker 1: in this. Ole Miss, Tennessee, Kentucky. Kentucky. again, we talked
- 7:58Speaker 1: about Texas. LSU is still very much alive with just
- 8:01Speaker 1: two losses. Bama has two losses. Florida is still alive
- 8:05Speaker 1: with just two losses. Now, if Florida, you know, is
- 8:09Speaker 1: in this conversation now, they've beaten Georgia. They've beaten Kentucky.
- 8:14Speaker 1: They've taken some other teams out along the way.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Missouri. Missouri's still alive, technically.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So, like, I think you're talking about an Ohio State that, now,
- 8:23Speaker 1: Ohio State goes 11-1. None of this matters.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 1: But, Ohio State goes 10-2 and doesn't have their quarterback,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and you've got a bunch of SEC 10-2 teams there
- 8:33Speaker 1: at the end. That's tough, man. If Bama goes 10-2,
- 8:38Speaker 1: if Bama wins out, which is maybe hard to imagine
- 8:41Speaker 1: right now, but Bama and LSU play. The winner of
- 8:44Speaker 1: that game, if they go unscathed the rest of the way,
- 8:47Speaker 1: should be in. Tennessee, but you could make the same
- 8:51Speaker 1: argument with Tennessee and LSU. They play each other in Knoxville.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Tennessee and Kentucky. Yeah, so there could be enough cannibalization
- 8:59Speaker 1: still left to happen to where the SEC runner-up has
- 9:02Speaker 1: three losses before they get to, you know, like, that's
- 9:05Speaker 1: not unfathomable where somebody goes to the SEC and SEC
- 9:09Speaker 1: championship has three losses. Well, if that's the case, then yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 1: if they take their fourth loss there, then I might
- 9:13Speaker 1: slide Ohio State in. But I don't know, man. I
- 9:16Speaker 1: don't think it's a lock for them. I don't think
- 9:18Speaker 1: they're a lock at 10-2. Some people should argue that
- 9:21Speaker 1: they should be. I don't know. The president's there. We'll
- 9:23Speaker 1: see what the committee wants to do.
- 9:24Speaker 2: They're a lock at 10-2 if they go to the
- 9:26Speaker 2: Big Ten title game. That, to me, is just a
- 9:27Speaker 2: done deal. If you somehow, someway make it to the
- 9:29Speaker 2: Big Ten title game, you have to be a lock
- 9:32Speaker 2: to go. Because if any other team would be a
- 9:34Speaker 2: lock in that situation, think about it. If they go
- 9:37Speaker 2: to the Big Ten title game, and let's say Julian
- 9:39Speaker 2: Sane got hurt in that game, you're not taking them
- 9:41Speaker 2: out at that point. So just think about it that way.
- 9:45Speaker 2: And this is also just a fair reminder, the same
- 9:47Speaker 2: team that won a national title in 2014 with Cardell
- 9:51Speaker 2: Jones starting for the first time in the playoff. I'm
- 9:54Speaker 2: just saying. Weirder things happen. And Tom raised up a
- 9:57Speaker 2: really good point. The offense is predicated on finding for
- 10:00Speaker 2: the football as much as humanly possible. So if Fahey
- 10:03Speaker 2: or St. Clair comes on in and does what he's
- 10:06Speaker 2: supposed to do, which is be accurate, don't put the
- 10:08Speaker 2: ball in harm's way, and spread it around enough to
- 10:11Speaker 2: get defenses letting the open target downfield known as Jeremiah
- 10:15Speaker 2: Smith find the end zone, they're probably losing one game.
- 10:19Speaker 2: And they're probably going to the Indianapolis. And if they're
- 10:22Speaker 2: in Indianapolis, they're in the playoff.
- 10:26Speaker 1: We did not plan for that segment, but it was
- 10:29Speaker 1: a fun one. Again, a lot to be decided. Ohio
- 10:31Speaker 1: State has to play Oregon. They have to play Northwestern.
- 10:34Speaker 1: They have to play USC. Are those in back-to-back-to-back weeks?
- 10:37Speaker 1: And Michigan.
- 10:39Speaker 2: There's one other game, I think, in between there. They
- 10:42Speaker 2: have the bye week. They play USC next. Then they
- 10:46Speaker 2: play Nebraska next. There's somebody else on the schedule.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I'm blanking.
- 10:55Speaker 2: UCLA. They play UCLA too?
- 10:58Speaker 1: Were you talking about USC?
- 11:00Speaker 2: I'm talking about, I'm talking about, oh, Oregon is what
- 11:03Speaker 2: I was thinking of, Ohio State.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 2: And Northwestern.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I was going to say, Ohio State's at SC, home
- 11:08Speaker 3: against Oregon, home against Northwestern, at Nebraska, the game.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Next game.
- 11:14Speaker 3: With a backup quarterback?
- 11:17Speaker 2: Two losses are very possible in that situation. And then
- 11:19Speaker 2: it's 9-3 and it's a big point, potentially.
