- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. Let's talk about delivery.
- 0:31And I'm not talking about food delivery or you know, Uber Eats
- 0:35or something like that. I'm talking about how you
- 0:37deliver information that you have you want to share with
- 0:42somebody. And this, this could not be a
- 0:45more important conversation because everything matters with
- 0:50how you put it out there. Everything matters with the
- 0:53delivery system in which you're giving it meaning, the emotion
- 0:56it's wrapped in. It's kind of like a hot dog.
- 1:00Think of it this way. If I say to you, let's have hot
- 1:02dogs and then I just put a hot dog on a plate, you're going to
- 1:07have a strange look. You're going to look at me and
- 1:08be like, why did you give me a hot dog on a plate?
- 1:11Do you, do you have a bun? Do you have a piece of bread?
- 1:13Is there something I can do with this?
- 1:15I mean, even if you don't, you know, a bread person and you
- 1:18don't want the hot dog that way, you're going to look for
- 1:21something else, like maybe beans.
- 1:23Because I grew up in a town where hot dogs and beans were a
- 1:26thing. They would cut them up and put
- 1:28them in the beans. And that was like a side dish
- 1:31that you would get. Sometimes it was even dinner
- 1:33when my mother was in a hurry, but it was all chopped up and it
- 1:36was in the beans. It wasn't just a hot dog on a
- 1:38plate. And the lesson of this is
- 1:42profound when you stop and think about it, because you can have a
- 1:45message, IE the hot dog that you need to deliver to somebody, but
- 1:50how you deliver it, how you package it, matters as to
- 1:53whether or not that person is going to consume it or kick it
- 1:57back to you and say, no, I don't think so.
- 2:01I don't like this and I'm not going to accept this.
- 2:05I'm not going to eat this. I'm not going to consume this.
- 2:08I'm just going to argue with you about the fact that the message
- 2:11is not the way I like it. And I cannot begin to tell you
- 2:16how many times I've had conversations, especially as we
- 2:19get closer to the holidays, about how people are showing up
- 2:23and how they're saying things about what they're going to be
- 2:25doing, where they're going, who's willing to go where,
- 2:29travel times, this, that, the other, you name it.
- 2:31It's a a giant conversation about this.
- 2:35And people get frustrated because one person delivering
- 2:39the information is coming out and being rough.
- 2:43They're not being considerate of the other person.
- 2:46They're not being considerate of the length of travel, the time
- 2:49of travel, whatever it is. The fact that a lot of people as
- 2:53they grow up have to break up with the traditions of one
- 2:58family to try to assimilate into another family.
- 3:01Like we all wish that our children would grow up and get
- 3:04married and have beautiful things.
- 3:06I mean, in fact, I'm, I'm not going to see my daughter over
- 3:09Thanksgiving because she's going to her father's family and OK,
- 3:13right. I mean, listen, that's part of
- 3:15the consequences that are unintended when you get
- 3:17divorced. It happens.
- 3:19And we all have unintended consequences.
- 3:23And guess what? We have to swallow that.
- 3:26We have to take that in and say, OK, And it's all in.
- 3:30How it's delivered it everything comes back to how you say
- 3:34something to somebody. If you say it in a harsh way,
- 3:37you're going to have pushback. There's no question about it.
- 3:40There's honestly nothing wrong with that.
- 3:43I mean, if you deliver something in a way that is not
- 3:47considerate, you're going to get pushed back.
- 3:49You're going to say something and somebody's going to bite
- 3:54back at you. It's being considerate and
- 3:57saying, how can I deliver this information so the other person
- 4:01can hear me? What do they need to hear in
- 4:04order for me to be able to convey this to them?
- 4:07And yelling is just a matter of like, we get to the point where
- 4:12we're so frustrated, all of a sudden we yell or we get like,
- 4:15this can't be, we start to panic.
- 4:17So panic shows up and panic starts to take over.
- 4:20And before you know it, the panic is running in the
- 4:23situation and not the fact that you want that outcome that
- 4:26you're trying so hard to get. I mean, it's a it's a very real
- 4:30thing. So my suggestion is that if you
- 4:33have something that you are are considering that you have to
- 4:36deliver to somebody and you really want to make a point with
- 4:40it, consider all the aspects before you do it.
- 4:44Consider what you're going to say to the person.
- 4:47Write it down. Consider the language you're
- 4:49going to use. Consider the the person when
- 4:53they're listening. Like if you message someone when
- 4:55they're at work, is that really a good idea?
- 4:57No, but people do it all the time and then they expect that
- 5:00person to be able to respond, even if that person is in a
- 5:03stressful job. It doesn't matter if I messaged
- 5:06you now, you should answer me. And this goes on and on and on.
- 5:10So it's there's something called sensory acuity.
- 5:12And it's just basically using all your senses to be wide awake
- 5:16and realize, hmm, maybe I shouldn't be doing this quite
- 5:19the way I'm doing it. So just remember the analogy of
- 5:22the hot dog. How are you serving the hot dog?
- 5:25And then you can really decide how you want it to be.
- 5:28All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:31will see you tomorrow. Bye.
