Latest / The Brain’s Body Podcast: The Brain Is the Body / Pause Before You React: Sense, Feel, Focus and Think for Your Self
Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: This session's focus.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Think for yourself.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Intellectual learning for self-mastery.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Are you thinking for yourself or just doing what you see others do?
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Thinking for yourself is more important than simply doing what you see others do because it requires reflection, awareness, and the ability to respond with purpose.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Within my human system science framework, thinking for yourself is more than having choices.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: It is the practice of moving beyond imitation, pressure, and automatic reaction so you can pause, reflect, and respond with greater purpose.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: To think for yourself, you must process experience through points of reflection.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: This builds the capacity to compare and contrast the value of reacting as expected with the value of responding through synthesis of the experience.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: When you only follow what others do, you may repeat behavior without understanding it.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: But when you pause, reflect, and process the experience for yourself, you begin to recognize what belongs to your own awareness, what comes from outside influence, and how to respond with greater purpose.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Dr.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Slatin Live In, the brain's body, the ultimate experience.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: This is where human system science opens a deeper way to understand the relationship between self, brain, body, and sense messaging.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: The channel connects directly with Think for Yourself by teaching the practice of pausing long enough to sense, feel, and focus before reaction becomes response.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Here, brain talk becomes a lived practice informing the brain, disciplining the body, and processing the senses so you can recognize what is happening inside the moment.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Thinking for yourself is not only about realizing that you have choices, it is also about reflecting on the choices you make before you act.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: When you sense and feel the experience of self in a situation, you create a pause.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: I have learned to practice pausing long enough to let emotion move through my received path so thought can bridge into action and reflection can come before reaction.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I call this the sense, feel, and focus process cycle.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I have spent a lifetime studying sense and receive path interactions between children and parents in crisis.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Too often people are labeled by the way they react to instruction or criticism.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: But when the brain-body connection is upset, the flow of information can leave an empty space in the moment.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Instead of sensing how to feel the experience, think it through and respond, the person may act out to cover fear or anxiety within the neural interaction between brain-body and information flow.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: This is why thinking for yourself matters.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: The brain can feel the body's reactions before awareness has time to form points of synthesis.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Thinking for yourself helps you recognize what the body is feeling and focus the flow of information between receiving, sensing, brain response, and body reaction.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: The process cycle begins with understanding self, then uses that understanding to comprehend the behaviors of others and evaluate environmental influences through a sense-feel experience of brain talk.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Before reaction becomes response, the receive path releases energy, action, and feeling to inform the brain, discipline the body, and process the senses.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: These are forms of self-actualization.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Within the practice of thinking for yourself, you begin to notice the points where you are not thinking for yourself.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: One, your brain talks back.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Two, you feel a sense of I told you so.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Three, you can focus repeated mistakes through a sense of care.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: It feels like you already knew, I told you so, becomes brain talk.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: As we close, remember this to think for yourself.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: You must learn how to study the way you think through the things you feel.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Your feelings are not distractions from thought.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: They are part of the information your brain and body are trying to process.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: When you pause long enough to sense, feel, and focus, you begin to understand what the moment is teaching you before you react to it.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: This is the work of brain talk, informing the brain, disciplining the body, and processing the senses so awareness can form before reaction becomes response.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: The more you study your own patterns, emotions, choices, and repeated mistakes, the more you build the capacity to reflect, compare, synthesize, and grow from lived experience.
