Transcript
- 0:00I'm super stoked to be involved because I love like curation
- 0:02and, and it's sort of the way I express myself artistically.
- 0:05Again, going back to that thing, I don't draw, I don't paint, but
- 0:08I know how to place cars and I can take some photos, so.
- 0:12This week we're joined by our pal Art Cervantes.
- 0:15Art, of course, is one of the founders of Radwood, and we talk
- 0:18about the big presents they'll have at Car Week here coming up,
- 0:22the appreciating and depreciating cars of the 80s and
- 0:2590's, the origins of Radwood itself, and what it takes to
- 0:29keep putting on these amazing events that they do.
- 0:33This is a long one, but we talk about all sorts of interesting
- 0:36stuff, so stick around. Tell your friends it's that car
- 0:39show. Welcome back to that car show.
- 0:42I'm Lindsay and I'm here with Ryan.
- 0:44And joining us tonight is Art Cervantes from Haggerty, and
- 0:48it's his birthday. So thank you so much for joining
- 0:50us, Art. We're glad to have.
- 0:51You. I'm excited to be here.
- 0:53Yeah. Thank you.
- 0:54Yeah. I'm shocked, but I'm also
- 0:56honored that you would choose to spend your birthday with us.
- 0:59I know. Thank you.
- 1:01It is a waste of it and I'm just kidding.
- 1:04This is great. I mean, you know, I, I, I love
- 1:07to talk cars. I love to talk car culture.
- 1:09I love to interact with fun people.
- 1:11I mean, I've met Lindsay, Lindsay a few times at our shows
- 1:14and this is awesome. I mean, I, I'm, I'm stoked to be
- 1:17here. Fantastic.
- 1:18I mean, and you know that car show, people know it's the only
- 1:21way to celebrate really. So we're going to make it an
- 1:24epic, epic day for you, so. For those.
- 1:28Yeah. So for those that don't know
- 1:30you, you are one of the creators and cofounders of Radwood and
- 1:34you also host the Driving While Awesome podcast and you are
- 1:38nearing 900 episodes on the show.
- 1:41So congratulations on that. That's amazing.
- 1:44And you and I, yeah, you and I met or we first connected when I
- 1:50was contemplating buying an X5 from you, which was I believe
- 1:53SRL Blue. And I decided I didn't have.
- 1:56It turns out that my BMWSUV collection has to wait.
- 2:00But we've stayed in touch and gotten to meet in person at
- 2:04several of the Radwood events, which are, as the name says,
- 2:07super rad. So I'm excited to have you with
- 2:10us and catch up and hear what's been going on.
- 2:13Hey, real quick, before we get into it, we're excited to share
- 2:16some news. All of us here at that car show
- 2:19are thrilled to be working again with Sheffield Watches.
- 2:23Sheffield, of course, is the storied watchmaking brand that
- 2:26was revived a couple years back by our friend Jay Turkbus, and
- 2:29it's seen wild success in both the car and watch enthusiasts
- 2:33communities everywhere, and certainly with that car show
- 2:37crew. Sheffield offers a wide
- 2:39selection of watches, many inspired by the iconic designs
- 2:42of its 1960s dive models, most notably the one Jay's parents
- 2:46gave him in 1970, which ignited his lifelong passion for
- 2:50watches. His Porsche passion would
- 2:52follow. Sheffield watches are high
- 2:55quality, reasonably priced and a great value.
- 2:57There's a reason you can show up to pretty much any car gathering
- 3:00and see lots of Sheffield watches on wrists.
- 3:04Order your Sheffield watch at sheffieldwatches.com.
- 3:08Give them a follow on the gram at Sheffield under score.
- 3:11All sport under score watches. And tell Jay that car show sent
- 3:16you. Awesome.
- 3:17Yeah, yeah. Exciting.
- 3:18And you know, I will say we just had our Redwood Norcal event,
- 3:21which is our big Bay Area event a couple of weekends ago.
- 3:25And the gentleman who purchased my 4.6 IS in esterol blue with
- 3:30Alcantara sports heat interior. That was that was there.
- 3:36And you know, it's, it's always a little bit of a scary thing,
- 3:39right? It's like, hey, how so how's the
- 3:41car? You know, and yeah, he's like,
- 3:45great, but the oil leaks are getting worse and I'm like,
- 3:48yeah, that sounds about right. But you know, and it was and
- 3:51it's a thing. I'll be, you know, this is
- 3:52something I discussed on the show.
- 3:54But you know, I, I did a ton of work on that car.
- 3:57Like, you know, I I had basically all the stuff that
- 3:59goes wrong. I had sorted right and, and
- 4:01preemptively as much as I could and, and then we had really like
- 4:08a couple little oil leaks here and there.
- 4:09But now as you know, those are very complex, lovely vehicles,
- 4:13but they are they've got a lot of places to leak oil from.
- 4:16And, and so I was not surprised, but he did not seem very upset
- 4:20and he was happy with the purchase.
- 4:21Still he says he daily drives it and it it is his dad mobile.
- 4:25Yeah, he has 2 girls and they both go in the back.
- 4:28That is like peak X5 that that that exact model right?
- 4:32Like that was just the best looking one of all.
- 4:35Well, and especially in that color, I mean, that's, that's a
- 4:38large part of why I was so tempted and I knew you had
- 4:40sorted it so well. And I thought, if I'm going to
- 4:42do it, that's the one to do it all.
- 4:45Yeah, yeah, it's, it's, well, yeah, exactly.
- 4:48You don't you, you didn't want to spend 15 grand or whatever I
- 4:52did on it, just getting it up to up to stuff.
- 4:55And you know, this is and this is of course one of the nicest
- 4:58ones. I mean, well, as you know, it's
- 4:59it's a rare color combination and all that stuff too.
- 5:02They think they made like 100 in this color combination or
- 5:04whatever. But I had been looking for a
- 5:07while and when it popped up, I'm like just like yourself, I'm
- 5:10like, I have to get this. So I'm as soon as I saw it pop
- 5:12up, I bought it on cars and bids and I paid like a premium for
- 5:16it. You know, it was a lower mileage
- 5:18car. I think it had like 60 something
- 5:201000 miles on it. And this is for the listeners.
- 5:23This is a 2003 X5 4.6 IS which has got the really sweet quad
- 5:29Cam V8 that it was actually designed by Alpena and then BMW
- 5:35basically decided because they were experimenting with the idea
- 5:38of like putting out an MSUV product.
- 5:42This is in the early 2000s and they were going to go full tilt
- 5:46on it, but then they decided, you know what, let's let's test
- 5:48out the market here. And so this is effectively the
- 5:511st MX5, but it wasn't badged as such.
- 5:54And and they instead of developing their own motor for
- 5:57it, they just acquired the Alpena design and produced it
- 6:00themselves. And so it's the same motor as, I
- 6:03don't know, I think it's like they maybe like an E34 Alpena.
- 6:06OK, maybe I can't remember, maybe E39 actually.
- 6:09But anyways, sorry dirty stuff. Also one of the best stances of
- 6:13any SUV ever. It looked just.
- 6:15So good. It looks so good.
- 6:17Yeah, Yeah, it's got three fifth.
- 6:19No. Is it 3 fifteenths in the back
- 6:21or 320 fives? I can't remember.
- 6:22One of those, yeah, they're fat tires.
- 6:24Big white tires, yeah. And the fronts are pretty,
- 6:26pretty decent, but the rears are it's a staggered setup.
- 6:29And yeah, it just gives it such a cool, like muscular look.
- 6:32And I have a story about that. There were, you know, the first
- 6:35time I ever saw one, I was actually, this is kind of small
- 6:39world, you know, full circle stuff.
- 6:40As I had mentioned before the show, I'm I live in Santa
- 6:43Barbara and I was in college down here at the time and I was
- 6:46in my 75 2002 coming into town over a fun Rd. here over the
- 6:51hill. And the car was dialed like
- 6:54suspension wise. I used to auto cross it, but not
- 6:56necessarily a very powerful motor or anything.
- 6:59It just had a good, you know, header Weber or whatever, but
- 7:02like we're talking compared to one of these things, you know,
- 7:06nothing. And so this thing flies up on me
- 7:09is a section of Rd. where there's a passing lane gets in
- 7:12front of me and I'm like, all right, cool.
- 7:13I got I got the downhill section here.
- 7:15I've got my suspension dialed. Let's go, you know, and I was
- 7:18struggling to keep up with this guy like, and I know this road
- 7:21really well. And when we got to the bottom of
- 7:24the hill, I'm like, what the heck is this thing, you know?
- 7:26And I pulled up around it and I saw the little flares and, and
- 7:29it said 4.6 IS on the side. And so ever since then, I've
- 7:32always wanted one. And you know, I finally got one
- 7:35and spent a tremendous amount of money on it.
- 7:38Yeah, well worth it, I'm sure. Well worth.
- 7:39It but did get did get did get to enjoy it and had the
- 7:42experience so I checked. That box, so good, so good.
- 7:45We should probably stop for a second just to for the I think
- 7:48most of the people listening certainly know what Radwood is,
- 7:50but maybe for the handful who don't, what is Radwood all
- 7:54about? Because really, you guys started
- 7:55a movement. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:57So it's a celebration of 80s and 90s like car culture, but we
- 8:02celebrate the lifestyle piece as well across, you know, the
- 8:06board. So it's it's pop culture and you
- 8:08know, we incorporate appeared correct music.
- 8:10We encourage everybody to dress up and there is an award for Rad
- 8:13is dressed and it's a really fun presentation that we do at each
- 8:16event for that. It is a People's Choice driven
- 8:19award. So we incorporate the audience
- 8:21and, you know, it's, it's a fun thing.
- 8:23But yeah, so it is it is really something that we identified,
- 8:27you know, back in like 2016, really maybe even 2015.
- 8:33The the first show was until 2017.
- 8:34But we had all among us, you know, 80s and 90s like sports
- 8:39cars and fun drivers cars. And, you know, the, the those
- 8:42were the cars that we grew up with and that, you know, we less
- 8:46than after when we were in high school and couldn't afford.
- 8:48So we started seeking out, you know, those, those cars.
- 8:51And so we had E36M330M3940 fours, you know, all the, the,
- 8:57the, the typical, you know, sort of like, especially the German
- 9:00side of things. I had a 993 at the time.
- 9:02And, and so we, we decided, well, you know, we like these
- 9:05cars, right? So obviously we love to drive
- 9:08them, we enjoy them. It's A, and there was that key
- 9:11piece of the, of all of it being that it was sort of the perfect
- 9:14balance between like modernity and like analog nests and you
- 9:18know, you, they, they weren't carbureted.
- 9:20They started every time. They had decent AC and, and, and
- 9:25also they weren't super heavy and tech laden and, and, and
- 9:28just, you know, very like enjoyable cars to drive and own
- 9:31and work on. So we decided to put on a rally
- 9:36that was really focused around that through our podcast,
- 9:38through driving well, awesome. That was really a way to like
- 9:41open up the whole rally concept and, and really make it more
- 9:45approachable, especially for cars of this era, because there
- 9:47wasn't a place for our cars. And so from that, you know, we
- 9:51noticed there was enough interest in the, in the driver
- 9:54space, right? We, we, we had a ton of people
- 9:56that came out and it wasn't just 80s and 90s cars, but we opened
- 9:59it up to, right, the majority were.
- 10:02And then we decided, OK, well, if people like to drive these
- 10:04cars and own them, we got to look into celebrating this era,
- 10:07just as, you know, the Goodwood revival, you know, and some of
- 10:11these old school, you know, hot rod shows do right?
- 10:14Like there, it's all about period, correct everything and
- 10:16really immersing yourself in the era.
- 10:18And so, so we decided to to put on, you know, this Radwood
- 10:22event. And the, the first one was
- 10:24really an experiment. It was a bit of a what I call
- 10:27the litmus test. In June of 2017, I booked the
- 10:31Brisbane Marina just in South San Francisco there.
- 10:35And we basically on the podcast said, hey, we're going to throw
- 10:39a boom box on a car and have a food truck bring your 80s and
- 10:4290s cars dressed the part and let's have a good time.
- 10:45And, and we did have an RSVP and registration process.
- 10:49So we were able to track it a bit.
- 10:50We had 150 cars and about 500 people show up.
- 10:54And that was with no marketing and marketing outside of our
- 10:57podcast. And yeah, and at the time, our
- 11:00podcast wasn't like, you know, as big as it is now, right?
- 11:03So it was very regional and it was pretty small.
- 11:06So yeah, we just kind of saw, we, we struck a nerve at the
- 11:09right time, right? We saw, we identified a gap.
- 11:11You know, there was no platform to celebrate this era.
- 11:14And we, we, we kind of like right at the cusp of when we saw
- 11:18that generational shift happening right, of the, we were
- 11:22kind of writing that and we decided to put, put on this
- 11:25experience. And so, yeah, we put on events
- 11:28all over the country now, one in the UK since then.
- 11:31And and we, we actually became part of the Haggerty sort of
- 11:36umbrella of, of events in 2022. And and so we're there now,
- 11:42yeah. That's amazing.
- 11:44Well, I think that's what sets the events apart.
- 11:47Like you said, it is such an overall experience with the
- 11:50music and they close. It is similar to Goodwood in
- 11:53that way. So tell me how you came up with
- 11:56the name. Because it's so fun and it's so
- 11:58evocative and like it tells you what the event is.
- 12:01So I'm curious. What Yeah, it's it's pretty
- 12:04straightforward. Yeah.
- 12:05I mean, it's you know, the the the good would would is there
- 12:09right. Like it was you were inspired by
- 12:11that. And then rad is is like the most
- 12:15like appropriate word of the error, right.
- 12:17Like the most really what do you well, evocative is a good way to
- 12:21put it, but it's just really sort of like definitive, really
- 12:25right of the era. And so that was the thing.
- 12:27It was like thinking, OK, what is the what is the word that
- 12:29represents this era the most? And then it's like portmanteaued
- 12:32with like the wood, you know, piece from Goodwood, since that
- 12:36was the inspiration. It just worked.
- 12:40If you're just listening and you're not watching, you won't
- 12:43see Lindsay in her vintage Hobie T-shirt.
- 12:45And I have stuffed myself into an old polo shirt from high
- 12:48school, which I haven't worn since about 1993.
- 12:51And it smells like 1993. But we're we're suffering from
- 12:55fashion. That's how you.
- 12:58Look, but I love it. Go ahead, Sorry.
- 13:00No, I'm saying I love it and I and I say I gotta say I
- 13:03appreciate it because you did mention that it's, it's warm out
- 13:06there and, and, and, and, and for those who are are on just on
- 13:10the audio channel here, it's a long sleeve and it's, it's a
- 13:14heavier shirt, right? Not a polo shirt.
- 13:17It's a Polo Ralph Lauren long sleeve shirt.
- 13:20Yeah. It's all I had.
- 13:21It's all a. Legitimate.
- 13:22Shirt A lot of memories in this shirt.
- 13:24Yeah, but that being said, I mean, I I noticed that hope you
- 13:28shirt right away too. I mean you're I know you're more
- 13:31comfortable, but it's definitely rad and we love this stuff.
- 13:34I mean, I, I actually one of my favorite things about our shows
- 13:37is, is actually, you know, going to the thrift stores, the head
- 13:40of a show and like seeking stuff out, right?
- 13:42Like I will always wear a radwood hat because I want to
- 13:45rap. And it's also, hey, this is
- 13:46available at the merch tent, right?
- 13:48So it's like. It's a website, I bet.
- 13:50Yeah. Yeah, it's so, you know, I'll do
- 13:52that. But I mean like if shirts or
- 13:54jackets I love like vintage motorsport stuff.
- 13:56And so I, I really seek that stuff out like any.
- 14:00So exactly. Yeah.
- 14:03Like best mic drop, either outfit or car that you've seen
- 14:06at one of your events. Just that.
- 14:07Just nailed. It across all of them, yeah,
- 14:09yeah. Right now.
- 14:14There's been some really, really heavy hitters.
- 14:16I mean, people go all out. I mean, you'll, there's been
- 14:19some excellent Princess like, you know, Prince formerly known
- 14:25and, and, you know, full tilt, right.
- 14:27The makeup, the hair, the, the, the, the, the, the all the
- 14:31what's the other frills or whatever, you know?
- 14:33Yeah, the. Puffy shirt, Whatever, right?
- 14:35Whatever it's called, the pirate shirt, I don't know.
- 14:37Yeah, all of it. But there's been some great ones
- 14:40of those. Yeah.
- 14:41I think personally though, you know, there's, there's been a
- 14:44ton of stuff and very well executed, like especially the
- 14:47people go into the, the, the, the cosplay, like a lot of the
- 14:51artists and musicians of the era, Right.
- 14:53So we've had a lot of Slash and, you know, Madonna and all that.
- 14:56That's cool. But I one that really stuck with
- 14:59me was, is it Lumberg from Bill Lumber lumber from office space?
- 15:04And, and it was so perfect. I mean, he was dialed and he had
- 15:08the same glasses, the tie, the, the and, and, and it's just like
- 15:11such a, it's like most things, right?
- 15:14It's so personal, right? Because it's, it's, it's a movie
- 15:16that I was super into and also just, it represented the era
- 15:19perfectly. It was so it was, it's so great.
- 15:21And so I, I really like that one because especially because
- 15:25that's one that we hadn't seen and I, I believe we haven't
- 15:28actually seen repeated where there's a lot of like the
- 15:31regulars, right? You have the guy dressed up as a
- 15:33Solo cup or with that Dixie cup pattern, whatever it's called,
- 15:36right? You know, things of that nature.
- 15:38But, but yeah, that one really stands out is it's just a
- 15:40hilarious outfit. And he had the the coffee mug
- 15:44and everything too, which was awesome.
- 15:46And I. Would take some effort.
- 15:49Yeah. At Redwood, LA in the fall, I
- 15:51think it was Brad Hanson and his wife Athena dressed up as Gem.
- 15:54And the Yeah. And I think they won.
- 15:56Actually, they looked they did yeah, yeah, they went all out.
- 16:00Yeah. That that was a really, really
- 16:02good like it was a it was also just because it was a band,
- 16:06right, too. And everybody did such a good
- 16:08job, right. Yeah, it was super well
- 16:10deserved. Yeah.
- 16:12Cars is that's, that's trickier because, you know, on average,
- 16:16let's say we get 15 ish, you know, across the board, I'd say
- 16:21average between 10 and 15 participants at each of our of
- 16:25our Radwood radish stressed sort of competition per show.
- 16:30And we have an average of 500 cars at each show.
- 16:35So it gets a little trickier. But, you know, I think that
- 16:38there's, there's some standouts where it's just because it's,
- 16:41it's stuff that we've kind of brought out of the, the, the,
- 16:45you know, the woodwork, if you will, that that just, you know,
- 16:49don't have a place, right. And so I love seeing the really
- 16:52weird stuff like, you know, the one that has come up a ton and
- 16:55I, I feel like I'm, I'm a broken record because it's so exemplary
- 16:59and it's not the geometric convertible Lowrider that
- 17:01everyone that's about to, because I've said it before it,
- 17:05it was, there was a Toyota Tercel all track manual wagon at
- 17:11one of our events that had a pristine plat interior.
- 17:14And that is such a cool car. And it's, it's like super nerdy.
- 17:19It's something that, you know, most people would walk right
- 17:22past and assume it's like some lame grandma car, but but like
- 17:26this, like it, it was, you know, we're talking late 80s Toyota
- 17:31manual transmission, all-wheel drive, selectable all-wheel
- 17:35drive and, and just the coolest, like 80s interior you can
- 17:39imagine, right? Like just it's, it was so cool.
- 17:42And, and my favorite thing about that beyond the car itself is
- 17:47that I'd say about 30 feet away we had a 959 and there were more
- 17:55people around the Tercel wagon than there were around the 959
- 17:59for the entirety of the event. So like, and that's what Rad was
- 18:03about, right? It's like, it's not all about
- 18:05values and the most exclusive and the most, you know, supercar
- 18:08or whatever. Like, it's just, it's, it's the
- 18:10fun stuff. It's the it's also the how is it
- 18:13still here? Yeah, Factor, you know, the fact
- 18:16that someone preserved because. Yeah, sorry.
- 18:18Go ahead. That's it.
- 18:19Because I mean, everyone keeps their Porsche nice or their
- 18:21Corvette nice or different, but people don't, you know, keep
- 18:24their tercells nice, right? It's not as a.
- 18:26Rule, Yeah. No.
- 18:28No, right. No, it's yeah.
- 18:29And that's a really good point. So we have a a time warp award
- 18:33that we made for this exact purpose, right?
- 18:35To, to find these sort of like preserved, you know, pristine
- 18:39examples of cars. But if, if it's, you know, down
- 18:44to two cars and we're talking, you know, a sports car versus
- 18:48something that shouldn't have been preserved and someone
- 18:50appreciated for personal reasons or whatever, that's going to
- 18:53win, right? Like there, that's, that's it's
- 18:55because just as you said, it's, it's much more likely that
- 18:58someone's going to preserve a valuable car.
- 19:00Like that's just the standard, right.
- 19:01So that, but that being said, though, I mean, we have as a
- 19:04matter of fact, you know, we, we've actually, no, we ended up
- 19:07giving it a Radisson show at Pacific Northwest, but it was
- 19:10really close to getting it was between another car and it was
- 19:13either going to get that or time warp because it was the nicest
- 19:17E28M5 we had ever seen. But it was also like a Eurospec
- 19:21car with like all the good Eurospec stuff.
- 19:23But I'm not saying that we're like by default, they're not in
- 19:28the running. It's just like if it's, if it's
- 19:30against like a Ford Taurus, you know, that's absolutely
- 19:34Immaculate with 10,000 miles on it.
- 19:36I mean, it's, it's hard to argue, right?
- 19:39Yeah, well, I think that's another thing that's really fun
- 19:42about the events is the number of times when you see something
- 19:44and you kind of stop and go, like, what is the story?
- 19:48Like, how is this the thing this person went, yes, I'm preserving
- 19:52this. Like I think one of the really
- 19:54fun ones at the Radwood, LA last year was the Hot Pink Rabbit,
- 19:59which was so. Cute.
- 20:01Like, really fun definitely attracted the crowd attention
- 20:06and the woman was so proud of it.
- 20:07And it was just like, I think that's another part of it is how
- 20:10proud people are of their cars. And you can see it in the cars.
- 20:14But yeah, it's really the conversation piece, like.
- 20:17Super easy and, and, and that's, that's really been part of the
- 20:22whole show philosophy since day one, the inclusivity, right.
- 20:25And like, of course you want to put on a show and you want to
- 20:28have the big highlight vehicles that, you know, the, the, the,
- 20:31you know, the 993GT2 or the 964 turbo S and, and of course, you
- 20:37know, the de Loreans and the Testarossas and all the, all the
- 20:39really typical icons. But and, and some that are
- 20:42standouts, right? Like, I mean, I'm proud to say
- 20:44that we've had an EB110 before, which I was super stoked on, you
- 20:47know, like that's like that's a very rare car and friends like
- 20:50choose to come to our event. That's really special.
- 20:52You know, we've had all sorts of really cool Group B stuff and,
- 20:56you know, that's all great to see.
- 20:59And those are my personal like legitimate favorite cars that I
- 21:02would want to own, right. But, you know, at the same time,
- 21:05like it's it's it's it's kind of like finding those little gems,
- 21:10right, That are that are brought out and, and, and especially
- 21:12because we've seen it. All right.
- 21:14Like I love like learning and, and and discovering new things.
- 21:18But yeah, I was going to say something about the LA show with
- 21:21the pink. Oh yeah.
- 21:22So that woman, she was parked inside of what we call our
- 21:25royalty display, right? So that's the curated section of
- 21:28the show. Typically, we have a more
- 21:29photogenic space for those cars. And it's kind of like your
- 21:32showcase parking. They're more spaced out and
- 21:35they're not just all packed in, but like that car was parked
- 21:39right next to, you know, some 6 figure cars, right?
- 21:41And like, and everything in between.
- 21:42And like, it's just that it was such an extremely like clean
- 21:46example. And it was also a super unique
- 21:48color, which I later learned was that I think it was a nail
- 21:51Polish color or something. And she like, and she just loved
- 21:54the nail Polish color and then had a custom custom paint job
- 21:58done on her on her car, the match.
- 22:00It was unbelievable. That's incredible.
- 22:03My introduction to Radwood was a couple years ago at Amelia.
- 22:06And I'll never forget walking in and there were 3 Buick Riata's
- 22:10like set up. Like you were walking to walking
- 22:12into a GM showroom in 88, right? Like I mean, and there was like
- 22:15literature. There was a guy in like all the
- 22:16gear and it was just, it was like this lot of memories
- 22:19because growing up, you know, in 1988 in Indiana, that was an
- 22:22aspirational car. Like, like that was, you know,
- 22:25and I hadn't seen one in years. And then to see three of them
- 22:27and there was I think 2 convertibles and a coupe and it
- 22:29was just, you know, it was just awesome.
- 22:31It was, you know, I've been a fan ever since.
- 22:33But what kind of cars did you grow up with?
- 22:35I think I'm probably older than you.
- 22:37So Riata's probably were not on your radar.
- 22:39But what, you know, what were your folks driving?
- 22:41What were you into as a as a young person?
- 22:44Well, my dad was a really big Datsun and Nissan guy, so I grew
- 22:48up around a lot of those, but it wasn't necessarily what I
- 22:52wanted. I, I was like really into JDM
- 22:57stuff like I've always been. And so when I was in high
- 23:00school, well, I mean, I, I, I did, I did want A993 Turbo S
- 23:06like at the time that was like my favorite car.
- 23:08Yeah, yeah. And, and so I've also always
- 23:12loved 300SL roadsters. So I was really into that.
- 23:14But in terms of like era, like specific stuff, like although
- 23:19993 would have been, I was really into like Toyota Supra,
- 23:22as you know, the turbo Supra as like everyone is and Integra
- 23:26type RI loved and always wanted one and 97 first year is my
- 23:31favorite like US spec car. Now it's like impossible, right?
- 23:35They're like super wires, yes. Yeah, OK.
- 23:38Championship White yeah, yeah. So the 90 sevens are a little
- 23:41different. They they have a A1 year only
- 23:44front end and also they're lighter.
- 23:47They don't have a rear wiper like all of these little like it
- 23:50was more focused right before they're like, oh, wait a minute,
- 23:53we're going into the US market. We got to really spiff this
- 23:55thing up because you know, they people want air conditioning and
- 23:59rear wiper and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 24:01But you know, so the the first year is my favorite, but it is
- 24:05yeah, championship white and that's the one that I wanted
- 24:07then and I still want now and I'm never going to do it
- 24:10because, you know, a a nice example is 70 grand minimum,
- 24:13right? So, but yeah, I mean, while I
- 24:16say never maybe, but yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 24:21So I really liked the NSX, which I eventually bought.
- 24:25So I have been going down the list and buying all the cars
- 24:27that sort of going through and going through the bucket list.
- 24:31But yeah, NSX I I really liked all like the like the Subaru
- 24:3622B, the Evo, Mitsubishi Evo 5 was my favorite and continues to
- 24:40be so. Yeah.
- 24:42And I think, you know, I am of maybe because I'm a little
- 24:45younger, I don't know if you were playing Gran Turismo, but I
- 24:47was heavily inspired, you know, or influenced rather by Gran
- 24:50Turismo, right. So it was especially at that
- 24:52point, right, because it opened up a whole new world of cars
- 24:55that we didn't have here, right. So you see all the forbidden
- 24:58fruit and, and I, I was so nerdy about it that I, when I would go
- 25:02to San Francisco, just go with my friends and there was a
- 25:04Japanese bookstore there. And I would go to Kinokunya
- 25:09bookstore and there was a whole section of Japanese like car
- 25:13mags. And so I would, you know, at the
- 25:15time I didn't speak the language and I would just like get 567 of
- 25:19them, you know, and bring them all home.
- 25:20And it was all for the photos. And it was, it was so cool, you
- 25:23know, to see all those cars. But so, yeah, I was really into
- 25:25that. Eventually I I got into euro
- 25:28stuff. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:29You said at the time you didn't speak Japanese.
- 25:31Do you speak Japanese now? Yes.
- 25:33Amazing. Did it come from the cars?
- 25:36No. Well, I mean, there it was
- 25:38influenced by that. Like I mean, I was really into
- 25:40like Super GT and at the time I guess it was JGTC, but I really
- 25:45like Japanese Motorsports. And so I eventually ended up
- 25:49going there for the first time in 2003.
- 25:53And you know, the, the short story, long as we like to say,
- 25:58is that I was originally doing pre Med and I, I realized that
- 26:02very quickly there the difference between an interest
- 26:05and a passion as a, as a young man.
- 26:08And, and I'm like, you know what?
- 26:09I, I like science. I love it.
- 26:10I've done fine in science. And I, I, I thought I wanted to
- 26:13be a surgeon, but this is not for me, you know, And so I, I
- 26:17decided to go travel, ended up in Japan.
- 26:20And at that point I'm like, OK, I don't know what I'm going to
- 26:23do, but I have to learn this language and I have to move here
- 26:26and, and, and at some point, right?
- 26:28So, and in order to move here, I need to learn the language.
- 26:31And so I, yeah, I ended up changing my, you know, career
- 26:35path, if you will. I did Japanese with
- 26:37international relations and luckily I was able to apply that
- 26:40very quickly as soon as I finished school and and use it
- 26:44and at a professional level and spent a ton of time in Japan,
- 26:48which was great so. Amazing.
- 26:49It's just the neatest place. I remember going.
- 26:52I've only been once, but going and seeing like skylines
- 26:54everywhere, just, it was like, mind blown, you know?
- 26:57And it was probably around 2003 that I went, Yeah.
- 27:01And it was just, I just, yeah, it was just everything was
- 27:04amazing. It continues to be.
- 27:07Yeah, it is. It is my favorite place.
- 27:09I mean, I, we just got back. I was there three weeks ago and
- 27:12I, I took my, my family there for the first time.
- 27:15I mean, my, my wife and I had to travel together.
- 27:18But, but we have two girls and we had been waiting for them to
- 27:20be old enough, right? To like, really appreciate what
- 27:23they were, what it was and, you know, kind of acknowledge what
- 27:26was going on. And so.
- 27:28So yeah, it was super fun. Yeah, we did two weeks there and
- 27:31it was a blast. Awesome.
- 27:32Awesome. Well, I'm sure it helps to speak
- 27:34the language. That's an amazing.
- 27:37I mean, I give you a ton of credit for learning.
- 27:39I mean, it's not not easy language.
- 27:41Yeah, it's, it's, it's my favorite what one of my, one of
- 27:44my favorite experiences, rather sorry, was Japanese one O 1.
- 27:48First day in class, right. So we sit down and, you know,
- 27:54everyone's kind of settling in and, and it's this little
- 27:56Japanese woman at the front. She's very serious and just kind
- 27:59of acknowledge everyone and just like not saying anything.
- 28:01And then once everyone's seated, the door is closed.
- 28:04She says welcome to Japanese one O 1.
- 28:07Japanese is the most difficult language in the world.
- 28:09So if you're interested in really, truly learning, I
- 28:13recommend you stay. If not, you may have a difficult
- 28:16time. And so and then about 6 students
- 28:20got up and left and then. Well, that's amazing.
- 28:22Listen, Yeah, yeah. And so it definitely made it.
- 28:26I guess they were like, I kind of want to check it out and
- 28:29realized and they're like, and this woman's like, no, this is
- 28:31not the place that you just check stuff out.
- 28:33You just don't even bother. You know it was.
- 28:35More classes should start with a with a phrase like that, I
- 28:38think. Or directive like that, yeah.
- 28:40Totally. It was quite the disclaimer, but
- 28:42I love it. It's so old school, you know,
- 28:43it's, it's very classic. So, but yeah, it was, it's, it's
- 28:47a very difficult language and I continue to learn every time.
- 28:50And you know, when I go there and you know, it's, it's,
- 28:53there's a lot, a lot to it. You know, without kind of going
- 28:57on too deep of a tangent, there's a lot more.
- 29:00There's three writing systems, you know, think of it as 3
- 29:02alphabets and you know how many letters are in our alphabet?
- 29:05Like thirtyish, I don't know 26. There are one of their writing
- 29:11systems. You don't need to know Yeah,
- 29:14what exactly? Right.
- 29:16But, but just to give you some perspective, though, one of the
- 29:19writing systems to, to be able to read like a newspaper, like
- 29:22a, a good newspaper fluently, you need to know between 4 and
- 29:275000 characters. And so then it goes from there,
- 29:31right? Like it's just it, there's
- 29:3220,000 of these. And, and it's the, it's the same
- 29:36as the complex Chinese characters that you would see in
- 29:39Chinese. So it's very similar.
- 29:41And then you have two other writing systems.
- 29:43And also grammatically, like the way it works, there's nothing
- 29:46like it in the world. It's entirely unique.
- 29:48So the way you compose sentences is totally unique.
- 29:51You know, there's, they say, what is it like Basque,
- 29:54Hungarian and, and Japanese are the three languages that have
- 29:57zero, like roots. Like there's no, they're not
- 29:59connected to anything. They're entirely independent.
- 30:02And so, yeah, it's, it's, it's a wild, yeah.
- 30:05But it's, it's, it's super fun for me.
- 30:08It's a challenge. And there's also, there's so
- 30:10many ways that you can express yourself in Japanese and things
- 30:13that you can say that don't exist in any other languages.
- 30:16And I'm, I'm a polyglot. And so I, I love just, you know,
- 30:20linguistics in general. So anyway, sorry.
- 30:23No, no, I, I am as someone who very much isn't, I am so envious
- 30:28of, of that, of having that gift.
- 30:30I, I, it's, it's my biggest regret, right?
- 30:32And, and man, because it opens up the world right as you, as
- 30:37you know so. I feel the same way about
- 30:39musicians. Like, you know, I don't play any
- 30:41instruments and I, I'm very envious.
- 30:44And I, I, I love also, this is sort of more of a philosophical
- 30:47or just, you know, I guess, yeah, I guess it's a
- 30:49philosophical thing in terms of just a philosophy of life.
- 30:52And, and I've always been really the type of person that loves to
- 30:56absorb as much information about everything is possible.
- 30:59And you know, you hear like the whole Jack of all trades thing.
- 31:01And like, I really, really envy people who are super hyper
- 31:05focused and specialized in one thing because it's like, I don't
- 31:09have that right. And I mean, it's, it's so
- 31:11awesome to see. And Japan is like that.
- 31:13Like it is such, it's a culture of specialization.
- 31:16And so, you know, you go to Japan, you go to a ramen place,
- 31:19they only do ramen and it's going to be the best.
- 31:22You go to a, you know, Curry place, they only do Curry and
- 31:24it's going to be the best. And so they just strive to do
- 31:26something really, really, really well.
- 31:29And, and it's and it's something that's revered there, right?
- 31:32Like they they want you to. I mean, it's a traditionally, I
- 31:35guess they would, it's something that would be encouraged, right.
- 31:38Versus like, I feel like Western culture is like, I try to learn
- 31:41as much as you can, which I actually enjoy.
- 31:43Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:44But music, is that one of those things?
- 31:46For me, It's like, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's a good way to put it,
- 31:51you know, JDM, you know, what is it about those 90s Japanese cars
- 31:54that's just, you know, they're just so good, like they were.
- 31:59They're not like that now. Yeah.
- 32:03Yeah, Well, I think it it, it really stems from motorsport,
- 32:07right? A lot of it does.
- 32:08And and so it's like there, it's it's sort of like getting that
- 32:14race car for the street concept and really applying it, right.
- 32:17And so there were so many great like fun sports cars and rally
- 32:20cars that came out of Japan in that era.
- 32:23And, and also they were pretty like innovative, right, with,
- 32:26with like the way that they incorporated technology, whether
- 32:29it be like rear wheel steer or, or, you know, just like the way
- 32:32that they, they had their differential set up and, you
- 32:35know, the way that they incorporated like Yaw sensors to
- 32:38be able to, you know, control, you know, vehicle dynamics.
- 32:42And so they, they, they were really like doing a great job
- 32:45with that, you know, but also like with like we, we talked
- 32:48about the type R, right, like the purity of a car and like
- 32:51just focusing on, on, on really, even if as a loss leader, right,
- 32:55where that car didn't make them any money.
- 32:57But it like established, you know, Honda and Acura as like a
- 33:02just as a technological powerhouse and like a motorsport
- 33:04powerhouse, right? And this is all like stuff that
- 33:08you see in Porsches, right? It was like seam welded chassis
- 33:10with like, you know, the Super high revving over 100 liter per
- 33:15horsepower, you know, out of a, this tiny little naturally
- 33:19aspirated, you know, 1.6 or 1.8 liter.
- 33:22They had the Ek nines over there with the B16B and, and just all
- 33:26of it, right? And it just from an engagement
- 33:28standpoint and driving dynamic standpoint, like they were just,
- 33:31they're so analog and so raw and so commutative and, and that's
- 33:35like what makes a good driving car driver's car, right, is like
- 33:39understanding what the car is doing and getting that
- 33:41information. I had an, an R33 GTR that I sold
- 33:45last year and I was really impressed by, by how, how, how
- 33:52raw it was like, you know, because like everybody talks
- 33:54about, OK, the R32 is the one and then the R33 got really soft
- 33:58and then, you know, the R34 is like the cool one because fast
- 34:00and furious. But I've always been an R33 guy.
- 34:03And so I, I bought one never having driven one, because as
- 34:07soon as it became importable, I'm like, I got to have it
- 34:09before it gets nuts, right? And so, so I, I got one through,
- 34:12through Top Rank and that they found me like exactly what I
- 34:15wanted. It was a super, super nice car.
- 34:18And just, yeah, I was, I was so impressed by like all of this
- 34:22stuff, right? Just like that, this, the
- 34:23feedback that you get from that steering wheel, it was akin to
- 34:28like an air cooled 9/11, which is insane, right?
- 34:31Because we're talking about a motor that has a big
- 34:33longitudinally mounted, you know, inline 6, the front.
- 34:36And like, it's just not the same thing, right?
- 34:38And, and so do you just have such granularity and, and also
- 34:42is weighted perfectly? And there's all these little
- 34:45details about the driving experience, right?
- 34:48Like the intake manifold is on the driver's side, you know, for
- 34:50the Japanese. So you get all of that intake
- 34:53induction sound right in front of you.
- 34:55And so all of that starts to add up, right?
- 34:58So there's there's a lot of a lot of reasons, you know, but
- 35:01also I think that the Japanese were looking at the rest of the
- 35:06world and, and trying to improve on that, right?
- 35:08You look at the Lexus LS400 and what they did there, right?
- 35:12And so that was a world beating car.
- 35:14And they were looking at Mercedes, you know, as the
- 35:15standard. And they're like, we like, let's
- 35:18take a Mercedes and do do better and prove it in every way,
- 35:21right? In, in in their own way.
- 35:22And, and so, yeah, they they created some amazing stuff.
- 35:26So, yeah, it's, it's a lot of that, but I think the the most
- 35:29important thing I think is also who's who's at the helm, right?
- 35:32Like you look at Akio Toyota now and, and, and how influential he
- 35:36continues to be with, with a Toyota brand and ensuring that
- 35:41they still make drivers cars and cars that are engaging and fun,
- 35:45most importantly, right. And and not just, you know,
- 35:47boring, you know, the vehicle or sorry people transporters.
- 35:51Sure. So yeah, yeah, yeah, there's,
- 35:55yeah, there's a bunch of other reasons I could, I, I could go
- 35:57into and sort of like theorize on.
- 36:00Foot, those are no Toyota. Toyota's got 3 sports cars at
- 36:03least right now, right? The the the Corolla GR, there's
- 36:05the 86 and then the the Supra. The like, well, there's also the
- 36:13the other, the other GR Yaris and.
- 36:16Corolla well, right, right over other places, but yeah, yeah.
- 36:20Yeah, yeah, it's. Just, you know, credit I guess
- 36:22is my point. They're trying, you know, and
- 36:25and and it's and and that's and it's a it's a battle internally,
- 36:28right, like they're trying to optimize for profit as usual,
- 36:30right. And what is it that's selling,
- 36:32you know, SU VS and hybrids and you know all that.
- 36:35And so like to keep that it's sort of it's really keep
- 36:38continue to push for that is is commendable.
- 36:40And I think also you look at the truck side of things and the TRD
- 36:44program is massive, you know, and that that's the same concept
- 36:47over there. But yeah, I think it's, it's
- 36:51really, you know, like the philosophy of the brand and what
- 36:53they're what they're trying to do and, and having the right
- 36:56people in place to continue to really push that.
- 36:58Because look at where Nissan is now, look at where Mitsubishi
- 37:01is. Like that's, that's all it's all
- 37:03gone, right. Like, and they were definitely
- 37:05like at the top in, in, in the Radwood area.
- 37:08I say they were like all of their cars were pretty awesome.
- 37:12Well, it's interesting. It ties in with what you were
- 37:13saying about the language and just culturally the focus on
- 37:17doing, you know, one thing really well.
- 37:19And like you were saying the GTR, you were amazed.
- 37:23I think that's when you were talking about where it turned
- 37:25out the driving experience was pretty incredible and the sort
- 37:31of focus on doing one thing kind of shines in every area of the
- 37:34culture, it sounds like. I think so, yeah.
- 37:38And it's whether it be making the best hybrids or the best
- 37:43minivan, which they usually are producing, right, or just sports
- 37:50cars and fun, entertaining vehicles for sure.
- 37:53Yeah, I heard that. I was, I mean, we'll see what
- 37:57happens, but I was kind of disappointed because I heard
- 38:00that they were considering putting AV 8 in the in the next
- 38:03Supra, which is what they should have done in the 1st place.
- 38:05I thought, I'm like, if they would have put the LC-500-V8 in
- 38:09the Supra, like how awesome would that been with a manual
- 38:12transmission? Like that's, that's everybody
- 38:14wants that, Like everybody wants that, right?
- 38:17And instead they used a BMW platform and you know, and how
- 38:20that went apparently mildly successful and apparently and
- 38:23also technically a good car. It's just, you know, not
- 38:27necessarily what I want, especially aesthetically, but I
- 38:31feel like with, with, with something, something happened
- 38:36with V8 supercars where they want like a super in the series.
- 38:39And so in order, you have to have AV 8.
- 38:41And so we're on the street. Is that the, the, the, the, the
- 38:44consumer version may not have AV 8, but but there that's still
- 38:48like sort of influx and you know, it's kind of a bumper
- 38:51though, if it doesn't, because if you got the V8 supercar
- 38:54version, like that's the one that everybody wants to again,
- 38:56right, Going back to that so bizarre alignment, right?
- 39:00I know that there's emissions and limitations and standards
- 39:03that, you know, have to be met and that's but I mean, if you
- 39:06look at it just like everybody says, right?
- 39:08If Ferrari made manual cars, they'd sell every single one of
- 39:10them, but they don't do it right.
- 39:11And so in this case, like I think if there's there's no
- 39:16reason why why the every V8 manual Supra wouldn't sell.
- 39:20I feel like based on what I'm saying in in market trends,
- 39:23yeah. You've got an NSX at the moment,
- 39:26is that what you said? No, I have one.
- 39:29I had. Yeah, I had one when we started
- 39:31Bradwood. Yeah.
- 39:31So I had an NA1 NSX. And I think you guys will
- 39:35appreciate this. I you guys know the movie Pulp
- 39:39Fiction, of course. And so the wolf.
- 39:42Remember, Harvey Keitel's character drove a silver NSX.
- 39:46The best color I had. Yeah, no kidding.
- 39:49That's the color I wanted. And so silver and a sex and he
- 39:53was the wolf in the movie. That was his name, right?
- 39:56That was his code name or whatever.
- 39:57And and so I tried to get the wolf like vanity plate, but it
- 40:02was already taken. So I I got Ted wolf, TH wolf,
- 40:06you know, like in lead speak. So it was kind of nerdy, but you
- 40:09know, people acknowledged it and I had the plate.
- 40:12And I was dressed as Harvey Keitel for the first Radwood.
- 40:15So I, I, I rocked the wolf name badge, I'm sorry, name tag.
- 40:19And I had a fake cigarette, you know, with the, with the tuxedo.
- 40:23So yeah, it was really cool. But did.
- 40:25You set the bar high then. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:28Yeah. And I was going to say
- 40:30ironically though, I was going to say, yeah.
- 40:31But ironically, you know, these days, you know, especially like
- 40:35once you start really get, once we started to really get going
- 40:38rather and actually, you know, scale these events, like, you
- 40:41know, being dressed up is, is problematic, right?
- 40:44You're like running around and you have two walkie talkies on
- 40:46you. And you know what?
- 40:48I'll just wear a cool, fun T-shirt.
- 40:50If it's cold, I'll rock like a motorsport jacket and throw on a
- 40:53Radwood hat. Sure, good.
- 40:54You know, But sure. But yeah, as much as I'd like to
- 40:57dress up and in a full like, you know, Benetton Schumacher, you
- 41:02know, you know, attire, whatever race suit, I'm not going to do
- 41:07it you. Have to have a period correct
- 41:09walkie talkies and then it's just sort of spirals right it?
- 41:11Exactly goes from. Goes from there.
- 41:14But you mentioned the NSX and I bring it up only because you
- 41:17know, there are very few cars that have I guess increased in
- 41:20values quite as much as the those early NSX is.
- 41:22I, you know this, they were twenty $30,000 cars, maybe less
- 41:26at one time, right for rough one and they're just such wonderful,
- 41:30wonderful cars. But you know what's a good one
- 41:32Go for now it's it's 6 figures. I mean, yeah, I guess if defined
- 41:37good, I think it's more about mileage and condition these
- 41:40days, right. Like a a driver which is a car
- 41:43with let's say between 70 and 100,000 miles and that isn't
- 41:48flawless is going to be you know, 60 to 80 grand.
- 41:53And, and if you find something that is like, you know, under
- 41:5750,000 miles, especially a later car, like the fixed headlight
- 42:01cars and a manual fixed headlight car is 100% a six
- 42:05figure coming out. So yeah, I think the cheapest
- 42:09I've seen them these days are like in the 50s and they're for
- 42:12very high mileage cars. And and ironically, it's like
- 42:16it's a Honda, right? It doesn't matter.
- 42:17Like it's just, it's not going to deter.
- 42:19I mean, it's not going to impact the driving experience.
- 42:22It's just that it's, it's kind of money in money out, right?
- 42:24It's, it's if, if you're putting money there, you know that
- 42:26that's what you're going to get out of it when you go to sell.
- 42:28But if you want to own the experience and just, you know,
- 42:31have it for a year, like I think I would, I would go for that,
- 42:35you know, $50,000 example, because they're, they're
- 42:38aluminum chassis, You know, they're, they're, they're,
- 42:40they're, they have an aluminum monocoque and they're very, very
- 42:44nice cars. And they, they're so well built
- 42:47and they're extremely like comfortable to drive too,
- 42:51because they're like ergonomically very well designed
- 42:55just from your seating position. And I don't know if you've
- 42:57driven one or sat in one, but the visibility out of one is
- 43:01kind of one of the best of any car in existence.
- 43:04Like what? Happened to visibility art.
- 43:06Yeah, that. Is seriously, I want to bring
- 43:08back right just good visibility. I know, right?
- 43:11Well, it's, you know, thick AB and C pillars happen to be for
- 43:15safety reasons, right? That's the first thing.
- 43:17But but yeah, the NA1 NSX is you sit sort of like kind of upright
- 43:22and like you, you the dash is super low.
- 43:26So you see over the dash and the front end just drops down.
- 43:29So you basically see the road directly in front of you.
- 43:32It's it's it's such a cool sensation.
- 43:36And yeah, they're they're phenomenal drivers cars.
- 43:39The only issue I had with them, with mine in particular, because
- 43:42it was AUS spec model, is that and they have really long gears.
- 43:46And I think it's, you know, again, U.S. market people drive
- 43:49on big, you know, fancy Texas highways, right?
- 43:51And so that's and so they made our gearing really tall and in
- 43:55Japan they had a different gear set.
- 43:57You get different final drive. And so, yeah, so that's the
- 44:00move, you know, and I was, I was considering it and then I sold
- 44:04it and got something else. But but I think if I were to get
- 44:07another one, which isn't out of the question, I think there's
- 44:09such awesome cars and they have phenomenal presence.
- 44:13Yeah, I would, I would get either the a different final
- 44:17drive or get the Japanese gear set or both because that
- 44:21especially the type of driving that I like to do.
- 44:23And I mean, you said you're in Denver, you know, Lindsay,
- 44:25you're in PNW like, you know, tight twisting mountain roads.
- 44:29You know, you want to be shifting through the gears,
- 44:31right? Like not just sitting in 2nd all
- 44:33day. Ironically, you're you're
- 44:35speaking to two GT 4 owners. We also suffered.
- 44:38Some very long years. So yeah, we.
- 44:40Can that's a thing? Yeah.
- 44:41Yeah, that's a thing. Yeah.
- 44:43Well, our friends over at Shark Works can take care of you.
- 44:46Absolutely. Yes, yes, that's gonna be the
- 44:48next move for sure. So right on.
- 44:51That's a life goal I know well. And you have such great roads in
- 44:53Santa Barbara up in the hills to explore.
- 44:56So that sounds like that's. A pretty Yep, totally yeah, I
- 45:00mean and and I would I would be frustrated driving a stock NSX
- 45:03around where I live. It would just it would really
- 45:05work because I mean, I have a so one of my current cars I built
- 45:10specifically for back Rd. driving and it's like it's it's
- 45:14with that in mind, right? It's I have an E30 that has
- 45:17AK-24 in it, a Honda motor and and even now I feel like I have
- 45:22a three 373 final drive and I'd probably go to a 410.
- 45:26Yeah, yeah. Because like I don't really care
- 45:28about top speed in a car like that.
- 45:30You know, it's, it's, it's all about like, you know, I want to
- 45:32be shifting through the gears, enjoying.
- 45:34I want to be, you know, Rev matching downshifting.
- 45:37And if I shift through 4 gears to be at, you know, 90 miles an
- 45:40hour, who cares? Like it's like it's, it's I'm
- 45:43not racing anybody. I'm just, it's more about that
- 45:45engagement and having a good time.
- 45:47Yeah. What do you think's undervalued
- 45:49right now are like, what should we all be buying?
- 45:52I mean, I've said it before, we should all be out picking up
- 45:54like early boxsters, right? Like find the nicest 1 you can
- 45:56find, find 10, put them in a barn, right?
- 45:58Come back in 20 or 30 years, right?
- 46:02What do you think? What's the move?
- 46:04Yeah, Yeah, that's a good question.
- 46:06I feel like there's a few cars that have have increased in
- 46:10value a lot but are kind of settled and have room again and
- 46:15one of them I feel is like the E36M3.
- 46:17I think it's it like it they kind of blew up and then they
- 46:19got soft again and those are such great cars and I know that
- 46:23they've always had that stigma of like, you know, the euro ones
- 46:26got the cooler motor or whatever, but I'd say that most
- 46:29people that say that I've never driven 1 and they're they're so
- 46:33fun to drive yes. They do have the biodegradable
- 46:35glues in the interior. So you got to like fix your door
- 46:38panels and and you know, the, the, the, the, what do you call
- 46:41the glove box store is going to sag and you know, but those are
- 46:44all, you know, remedy, remedy able things.
- 46:46But in terms of like a driving experience and what you get like
- 46:50a super silky smooth inline 6. The gearing is perfect on that
- 46:54car with the stock setup and just a super enjoyable like, you
- 46:58know, not a slow car fast, but like a quick car fast, right?
- 47:00It's not going to get you in crazy trouble, but definitely
- 47:03really, really, you know, it's just a fun car to drive.
- 47:05And I think they're super handsome.
- 47:08They come in great colors, They sound good.
- 47:11You know, all of they check a lot of boxes.
- 47:12I've had a bunch of them and I, and every time I sell my last
- 47:15one, I say, all right, I'm done with E46.
- 47:17Are you 36 M 30s? And then I'm like, all right,
- 47:19I'll get another one, you know, but I've, I've set myself up for
- 47:22permanent failure with that though, because I, I said that
- 47:26I'm only going to buy one very specific car and there are like
- 47:30a handful of them, so I'm never going to find one.
- 47:33I want a slick top, a slick top, Techno Violet with Modena
- 47:39interior, M345. So I want a sedan manual
- 47:43transmission in the purple with that Modena.
- 47:46It's like a saddle interior. It's a dark tan or whatever they
- 47:49call it. And they're extremely rare.
- 47:53I've seen two of them and both of them were not for sale, of
- 47:57course, And so I'm I'm just a super nerd about that stuff.
- 48:02I feel like having that combination of ingredients would
- 48:05absolutely make me want to own it.
- 48:07But but I think those are those are those are still undervalued.
- 48:10I think the other car that continues to be a very
- 48:13undervalued is a 944 turbo. I feel like, you know, 944 turbo
- 48:18is is a is a phenomenal car and they're not super expensive.
- 48:22Like a nice driver is between 50 and 20 grand still and like it
- 48:26is so much car for the price. Like, you know, it is a genuine
- 48:29Porsche. You got, you know, really,
- 48:31really fantastic handling, driving dynamics and it's cool
- 48:35design, all of that. It's it's it's great.
- 48:38You know, I think it's it's a fun time.
- 48:40The other cars that are sort of my oddball choices would be a
- 48:44280ZX turbo. I feel like those are like waste
- 48:48slept on. It's such a handsome car.
- 48:49They're, they're really cool, very rad, you know, with the
- 48:52Radwood era sort of design. I think that's, that's something
- 48:56that it continues to be a good buy.
- 48:58I think, yes, it's going to be squishy and soft, but like, you
- 49:01know, you, that can be remedied and there's, there's, there's
- 49:04aftermarket options out there for you.
- 49:07But that one, that one, I've also talked about the 300ZX
- 49:10turbos, but those are not, not the, not the one that everybody
- 49:14wants with the quote UN quote, Lamborghini Diablo headlights,
- 49:17right? The the the 890 or 89 meter, but
- 49:21the the Z 30 one, which is the one after the the 280ZX and
- 49:27those are also really cool. The turbos, the later ones,
- 49:30especially they're I think it's a great design, very cool
- 49:33interiors. You kick a pretty sick like
- 49:35digital dash on them. You know, those are those are a
- 49:38few that come to mind right off the top of my.
- 49:40Yeah, no, these are good ones. Yeah, that's.
- 49:42Yeah. Sorry, I was distracted.
- 49:43I think I have a bat in my garage.
- 49:46Whoa. All right, the door open.
- 49:48Because that are very large bug, I'm going to just let it be and
- 49:52we're going to keep going. But I had to figure out what
- 49:54what's going on? As long as it doesn't land on
- 49:56your neck, right? I know, right?
- 49:58Would that be a show it? Would warn you to duck if it
- 50:01starts to like get real National Geographic behind you or
- 50:04something. Yeah, it's sort of what the hell
- 50:07it was. I love it.
- 50:08No, it's it's all good. But yeah, hey, you know, yeah,
- 50:12Wildlife, what can you do? Well.
- 50:13I love this. Is not a lion or a bear or
- 50:15something? Yeah, it's a great list and you
- 50:18know, and Lindsay, you can speak to the E36 a little bit owning
- 50:211A fordo yourself. And I remember when those cars
- 50:24were new, it was the the second coming right on car and driver.
- 50:27You know, it was on the cover and deck are yellow.
- 50:29But I mean, you love your your E36, right?
- 50:33That's yeah. Well, and that's, I think it's
- 50:34fun about M3's in general is that they always have, you know,
- 50:37the special yellow and the special blue.
- 50:39And so the E36 was deck are yellow and esteral blue like
- 50:42your X5. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:45And I have an M345, which I think is so fun, you know, M34
- 50:50doors, 5 speed. And I hadn't driven it for a bit
- 50:56and I went and test drove another one and I was like, Yep,
- 50:59still love them. They're the best.
- 51:00Like there is something about them that just sucks you in.
- 51:03I think just because they're so fun to drive, it's not like
- 51:08they're not precious anymore. Unless you get a Techno Violet
- 51:11with a Motena interior, Yeah, you can just enjoy the driving
- 51:16experience. Yeah.
- 51:18I think, you know, you really look into it and compare it to
- 51:21the alternative for that price point and it's like it is such,
- 51:25it is a lot of car. It is such a great car.
- 51:27And I think they continue to be underappreciated, obviously,
- 51:30especially because the the older brother, right, the E30M3 with
- 51:34all that motorsport heritage, like, you know, they continue to
- 51:36be, you know, I mean, although they've softened significantly,
- 51:39like you can find them in the 50s again, 60s where they went
- 51:43like, you know, 6 figures for a while.
- 51:45And but yeah, and I've had both and I can tell you now that, you
- 51:50know, outside of like the aesthetic component, like the
- 51:54E30M3 is such an awesome looking car and like, you know, it's
- 51:56such an iconic design, but like in terms of the driving
- 52:00experience and E36 M 3 is so much better.
- 52:02It's like. 3 generations, I feel like of development, right?
- 52:06I mean, it was, it was just such an improved car in so many ways,
- 52:10right? Totally, yeah, and I have an E30
- 52:11in the garage with a high strung little 4 cylinder and I'll I'll
- 52:14admit it, you know, it's it's they're awesome cars and it's
- 52:17definitely way more. I mean, E36 is much more
- 52:18insulated and not as like the raw right, but but in terms of,
- 52:23you know, what you get out of it, I think it's a good option,
- 52:25especially because as I said, I think that and I'm sorry,
- 52:28Lindsay, it doesn't sound like you're selling yours, but the
- 52:31market sort of softened on them. They were getting super
- 52:33expensive for a second and and they, you know, they consider to
- 52:37be if you've got a lightweight or like a super low mileage, you
- 52:39know, a rare combo of ingredients there.
- 52:42But yeah, I I was trying to think of some other stuff.
- 52:45But yeah, there's there's everything else seems to like
- 52:48that that I would want at least like has all become too too
- 52:52valuable or, or it's just too complex that to really, you
- 52:56know, to to enjoy and like, you know, we've we always talk about
- 53:00the Audi V eights. Do you remember those?
- 53:02Yeah. Oh yeah, the original V8, yeah.
- 53:04The boxy sedan, Yeah. And those are those are, those
- 53:07are worthless. And they're they're they came
- 53:09with a manual transmission. Super cool V8 but fine parts
- 53:13yeah you know it's impossible, right yeah.
- 53:15And and so there's stuff like that that just it doesn't have a
- 53:18market because it's they're just they're they're challenging to.
- 53:21Keep on the road, right? Sure, sure.
- 53:24But yeah, there's there's a bunch of stuff like that.
- 53:26It's interesting, yeah. Those were such cool cars,
- 53:28though. I I feel like most of them
- 53:30weren't pearlescent. They had those amazing BBS
- 53:32wheels, right? I mean, they were just so good.
- 53:34But yeah, other cars like that like that just aren't just not
- 53:38worth touching in your opinion. Well, yeah, I mean, I think
- 53:41especially as you get later, you know, into like the early 2000s
- 53:46in particular, right, you, you start to get into some stuff,
- 53:48like there's some some AMG products that are really
- 53:51awesome. But then, you know, it's it's
- 53:54that classic case, even late, like like what is it the E55,
- 53:57right? Like a late 90s E 55 like such a
- 54:00fantastic car, but you know, they're worth maybe like 10 to
- 54:0515 grand for a decent driver, but you're going to put that
- 54:08much into it a year in maintenance, right, because
- 54:10everything is super expensive and like there's all and stuff
- 54:14is going to go wrong. So it's just it's there are cars
- 54:17like that where you end up in a situation where I call it like
- 54:20the 928 effect, right? For a long time, 920 eights were
- 54:23not worth keeping on the road, right?
- 54:24Like the people just kind of when when the first bill came
- 54:27in, the first big bill outside of a, you know, warranty or
- 54:30whatever came in, they're like, all right, it's going in the
- 54:32driveway under a tarp. We'll get to it eventually.
- 54:34And they stayed that way for 20-30 years.
- 54:37And so I feel like and eventually, you know, things
- 54:40have come full circle. And as we talk about this sort
- 54:42of generational shift and people seeking those out now and, you
- 54:45know, wanting to like, you know, because there's nostalgia, their
- 54:47stories, people are willing to invest and actually get them
- 54:50back on the road. And now you see a ton of really
- 54:52nice 920 eights and most of them are very valuable because people
- 54:55invested the money to, you know, to to to get them back into tip
- 54:59top shape. So, yeah.
- 55:01So you find stuff like that. I mean, I'm sorry.
- 55:04Good. I want to say the the is what's
- 55:06what was the SLS like of the, you know, through 89 or whatever
- 55:10what? Was that well the R1 O seven?
- 55:12Yeah, that's convertible. Yes, I feel like those are still
- 55:15really undervalued like that. Those are a hell of a lot of
- 55:17car, but but you know, maybe not quite with the issues that the
- 55:19928 have, but I don't know, man. I grew up with weird science and
- 55:23risky business and the 928 is just I mean, that's the car for
- 55:27me of that era and. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:29It's funny that you mentioned the Mercedes.
- 55:32So I had a car that is it's it's so funny, like it sort of made
- 55:36the rounds like I bought and sold among friends, you know,
- 55:39multiple times and we kind of kept it among us.
- 55:41But it was a euro spec 500SEC Mercedes.
- 55:45So it's, you know, the pillarless coup hardtop.
- 55:49And this was a euro spec car. So I had the tight little
- 55:51bumpers and it had the the beefy euro spec 500 power.
- 55:54Sorry, A5 liter high compression motor and and a bunch of AMG
- 55:59bits from the era that were dealer installed and super cool
- 56:02car that is a very undervalued car.
- 56:06So SEC's in general. Yeah, yeah, they're like just
- 56:09amazing Teutonic, like, you know, so well made and like
- 56:13they're just beautiful cars. They have so much presence.
- 56:16It's a car that I could drive up to any Ritz and you know, valley
- 56:19at the front and no one questions it.
- 56:21Yes and it's just and it's just like really cool classic looking
- 56:26and and so this one in particular had you know custom
- 56:30BBS Rs wheels installed at the dealer before they shipped it
- 56:33over AMG like you know lowered suspension on it and you know
- 56:38supposedly AMG cams, but I never opened it up.
- 56:41You know, but it, it, it was a fast car and I, I, I sold it to
- 56:46a friend and then I think I want to say it's sold on BAT for like
- 56:4915 grand, you know, not too long ago and, and this or maybe on
- 56:54cars and bids, but this is a car again, we're talking about a car
- 56:59that has so much presence that you could take anywhere, you
- 57:01know, and not, and not no one's going to bat an eye.
- 57:03And, and they drive that way too.
- 57:05They drive the way they look. They're so tight and just
- 57:07they're, they're so like they're Autobahn bargers, right?
- 57:11They're specifically designed to like cruise at high speed and
- 57:13like a big GT car like that very underrated.
- 57:17They kept they have some expensive bills, but like
- 57:20overall and it's you know, they're pretty, pretty reliable
- 57:24and and there are some really nice examples out there because
- 57:27you know, grandma or grandpa like bought 1 new and then
- 57:30didn't drive it very much. And you'll find them out there
- 57:33with that been they've been sitting, which means you got to
- 57:35get through the rubber and do all that.
- 57:36Sure, right. But you know, overall though, I
- 57:39think they're they're still very cheap considering how awesome
- 57:42they are. Yeah.
- 57:43I mean they didn't make a ton of those I think when they were new
- 57:45or didn't import a ton. And weren't they like 200 grand
- 57:48in like 80s money when they were?
- 57:49New, I wouldn't be surprised, yeah, expensive, right?
- 57:51Yeah, just and a lot of them got all, you know, they got the the
- 57:55the cocaine cowboy treatment too, right.
- 57:57Like they went, you know, there's some goal wing versions
- 58:00out there and crazy white interiors and all the buttons
- 58:03and you know, there's yeah, they were pretty funky.
- 58:06But yeah, that's one that stands out for.
- 58:08Sure. There was 1 I think at Amelia
- 58:11when I was there that had I don't was owned by some chic and
- 58:13it had like a golden Thunderbird shifter and a like a 40 or 50
- 58:17band graphic equalizer. Like a like it's a like a piano,
- 58:20you know, across the the dash. Just epic, just epic.
- 58:23That's that's, yeah. Absolutely.
- 58:25That stuff. No, it's great.
- 58:26And we love to see that stuff. Yeah, it's great.
- 58:28Yeah. Do you have time for a couple of
- 58:31questions from Instagram? Absolutely.
- 58:35So Shacor Shacor CHAYCORE asks what have been the biggest
- 58:42challenges with Radwood events, both at the beginning and then
- 58:45now? That's a good question.
- 58:50There's the the first thing would be that, you know, we
- 58:55initially started with a very small group of people, right?
- 58:59And, and we wanted to do big things, so which required a
- 59:03tremendous amount of commitment and a lot of, you know, you
- 59:06know, just a lot of bootstrap work seven days a week and, and,
- 59:10and do it, you know, just start up stuff, right, like that you
- 59:13find in small organizations. And so once we saw that there
- 59:17was enough interest, you know, we wanted to keep that momentum
- 59:19going, right, because as soon as you have, we make a splash, it's
- 59:22very easy to fade away if you don't keep that, you know, and
- 59:25keep that momentum. So, so we started traveling a
- 59:28lot and doing events all over the country.
- 59:30And, and a part of that really with putting events on like
- 59:34this, the challenge is, is you know, in finding interesting
- 59:38venues is really important for me.
- 59:40And like, you know, one of the things that from day one that we
- 59:44we talked about is like creating a space that's unique and that
- 59:47it isn't just another car show, right?
- 59:49And so all of our venues have interesting backdrops and or
- 59:53interesting sort of like opportunities for vehicle
- 59:56placement and creating kind of a unique ambiance around the show.
- 1:00:00And you know, we talked about some curation things of that
- 1:00:03nature. And so all of that is super
- 1:00:05important. And so it's challenging to find
- 1:00:09a venue that is interesting like that and is photogenic, but also
- 1:00:13that. Can, you know, have several 1000
- 1:00:16people on site that there's, you know, spectator parking
- 1:00:19available that, you know, and then also you get the right
- 1:00:21permitting for it because, you know, we do everything legit,
- 1:00:24right? So like the city needs to
- 1:00:26approve it. The fire, you know, needs to be
- 1:00:27done. All of those things need to be
- 1:00:29done correctly. And so doing that while
- 1:00:32simultaneously putting on a good experience is, is challenging.
- 1:00:35And so that was something that was a challenge early on and
- 1:00:39continued to be, you know, after the fact.
- 1:00:41But you know that that that was the the first one.
- 1:00:45What was the second question? It just, you know, a challenge
- 1:00:49is now, I mean, maybe it was a huge relief when you sold the
- 1:00:51Haggerty, right? Because a lot of that was off
- 1:00:53your own shoulders, right? I mean, yeah, that that was that
- 1:00:56was part of the reason, right as we wanted to scale the business,
- 1:00:59like we wanted to have more support.
- 1:01:01And, you know, being part of the Haggerty kind of umbrella or
- 1:01:05under rather the Haggerty umbrella is, is it really kind
- 1:01:09of plugs you into a very wide and large network of of people
- 1:01:14and and organizations, right. So that gives you a lot, you
- 1:01:17know, opens up a lot more opportunity.
- 1:01:19Obviously, you know, we want the staffing support as well and all
- 1:01:22of the things that come with that.
- 1:01:23But but that's that's a big one. And so I think, you know, the
- 1:01:28challenge now is, is you know, I'll, I'll be very frank, I
- 1:01:31think, you know, it is a business, right?
- 1:01:34And so, you know, how do you balance that, you know, sort of
- 1:01:37creative freedom and creating a fun experience while also being
- 1:01:41profitable, right? And that's really important
- 1:01:43because that's that's what it's all about ultimately, right?
- 1:01:45And so, and it's very easy to just basically say, all right,
- 1:01:49let's just go with something basic.
- 1:01:51We can put on an insurance anywhere and you know, and
- 1:01:54ultimately like, you know, you know, really get the beefiest
- 1:01:57margin possible, right? And so for all things and, and,
- 1:02:01and it's, it's, it's a challenge, right, to like, try
- 1:02:04to like balance all of that. And so that's very front of mine
- 1:02:07for me. And I, I, I'm constantly trying
- 1:02:09to figure out ways to do that. And, and there's, you know,
- 1:02:11being, being part of Haggerty is beneficial.
- 1:02:13And in many ways that because of the how it's plugged in and all
- 1:02:17the different business units and just supporting all of the
- 1:02:19different Haggerty properties is also helpful.
- 1:02:21And so there's all of those things, but you know, because,
- 1:02:25you know, quite frankly, like the goal here is, you know, with
- 1:02:27this is this is the next generation of automotive
- 1:02:29enthusiasts, right? And so, and this culture and
- 1:02:32these people are very valuable to to to basically, you know,
- 1:02:36future proof the business, right?
- 1:02:38You know, I mean, historically we have a lot of the old school
- 1:02:40shows, right? I mean, and everybody talks
- 1:02:42about this, you know, like a lot of the cars that were super
- 1:02:44valuable 20 years ago are now not right?
- 1:02:47And it's because of the interest.
- 1:02:48And so I think it's important to to really be able to find that
- 1:02:52balance, right of like, you know, and it's all good stuff,
- 1:02:55right? Like, you know, we all we want
- 1:02:56to do good for our parent company and we want to, we want
- 1:03:00to do great for our attendees and our participants in our
- 1:03:03community. And so that's without being too
- 1:03:05specific like that's, that's the the current challenge I'd say.
- 1:03:09I mean, I give you a ton of credit because I mean, I feel
- 1:03:12like, you know, you've still got the magic right.
- 1:03:14I mean you, you know, you've got the the cred still, and I think
- 1:03:17that's the toughest thing to retain, right, doing anything
- 1:03:20and so job well done, not blowing smoke.
- 1:03:22I mean, it's it's rad woods as cool, as good good as it's ever
- 1:03:25been, I think and and awesome. Thank you.
- 1:03:27Right. I mean, it's, it's awesome,
- 1:03:29continues to grow. And.
- 1:03:31Yeah. Car Week.
- 1:03:32Yeah, Yeah. This is like this is like living
- 1:03:35the dream. No, and that's the thing too is
- 1:03:38that having the right people involved still, right.
- 1:03:40And so you know, we have so it's it's three of us from the
- 1:03:44original Co founders that are still involved, like I'm the
- 1:03:47director, Warren Madsen is is heads up operations, right.
- 1:03:51So he's on that side of things. And then we work very closely
- 1:03:54together. And then Lane is, is still, you
- 1:03:57know, managing our social media and doing some creative work.
- 1:03:59And so that keeps things consistent and we work really
- 1:04:02well together. And so we all, we all, we've
- 1:04:04been doing this since day one together.
- 1:04:05So the fact that we're able to continue that is super crucial,
- 1:04:08right? Because that's really part of
- 1:04:10the whole identity of the brand and how you know, how what type
- 1:04:14of experience we put on and what type of experience this should
- 1:04:17be in the future, right? And luckily, because of the
- 1:04:21liberty that we've been given, you know, as part of Agrity,
- 1:04:24it's, it's been very successful still.
- 1:04:27That's awesome. Well, and Ryan mentioned Car
- 1:04:29week, I know that's top of mind for all of us getting excited.
- 1:04:32So what can we look forward to from Radwood and like motor
- 1:04:37locks and you know, what can we expect?
- 1:04:40Yeah, yeah. So, so we're going to have our
- 1:04:43our own curated display. It's going to be a 50 car
- 1:04:46Radwood era 50 car display, have an event called the Paddock.
- 1:04:49This is an inaugural event at the Black Horse Bayonet, which
- 1:04:53is historically the place that they hold the concourse.
- 1:04:55So Italiano. And so it's going to be great.
- 1:04:58You know, we're we're going to have a beautiful, you know,
- 1:05:01scenic spot on the lawn overlooking the ocean.
- 1:05:04There's going to be 15 food trucks there, all sorts of other
- 1:05:07cars there as well, beyond ours. And we're going to have, you
- 1:05:10know, our our resident DJ is going to be spinning the on the
- 1:05:13ones and twos within our space and we're encouraging people to
- 1:05:16dress up still. And so so it's going to be a
- 1:05:18great time. I mean, good food, great venue
- 1:05:21and you know, a bunch of really rad cars.
- 1:05:23We have 50 really, really nice, like hand picked submission.
- 1:05:27So we're going to be there first.
- 1:05:29That's gonna, I'm sorry, not first.
- 1:05:31That's that's the one sort of standalone thing that we're
- 1:05:33doing. That's going to be on Friday, on
- 1:05:36on August 15th. That's a three to 8:00 PM.
- 1:05:38It's an evening show, which is pretty cool.
- 1:05:41And then on Wednesday, so going back in time now 88 miles an
- 1:05:44hour hopefully, yeah, we're going to be at Motor Lux.
- 1:05:50And so we, we are actually are not putting on a Radwood event
- 1:05:53per SE there, you know, being part of the Haggerty events team
- 1:05:57is that we also assist with other events, right, Because
- 1:06:00Haggerty owns quite a few events including the Concours and
- 1:06:03things like that. So we we are on the Radwood guys
- 1:06:08are we do the vehicle selection and placement and so curation of
- 1:06:11the cars and manage all of that on site.
- 1:06:14So if you go to the Motor Lux event, which is a phenomenal
- 1:06:17party, historically it was called the Jet Center party.
- 1:06:20It's at the Monterey airport. It is like Michelin star chefs,
- 1:06:24all of foods, all of these food stations, curated displays of
- 1:06:27cars among airplanes as well. And we take over some hangers.
- 1:06:31It's it's really cool. And that's like, I'm super
- 1:06:33stoked to be involved with that because I love curation and it's
- 1:06:36sort of the way I express myself artistically.
- 1:06:38Again, going back to that thing, I don't draw it on paint, but I
- 1:06:42know how to place cars and I can take some photos.
- 1:06:44Yeah, yeah. So that's always fun.
- 1:06:46For sure, yeah. Yeah, you can curate a mean car
- 1:06:50event. I can curate a mean car event.
- 1:06:52Yeah, exactly. So and and yeah, so we're going
- 1:06:55to be there and that's going to be a ton of fun.
- 1:06:57That's on the Wednesday and evening event as well.
- 1:07:00There's some pretty heavy hidden cars that we're going to have
- 1:07:03there. We have a couple of F 40s.
- 1:07:05We have several roofs, including a one of one roof Ctr. yellow
- 1:07:10bird slap nose, only slap nose they made.
- 1:07:15And there's going to be some other stuff including that
- 1:07:19Penske specific Porsche 963I believe they're calling it, you
- 1:07:24know, that that one off that was debuted at Goodwood.
- 1:07:27This is going to be it's AUS debut.
- 1:07:30So it's sort of like an, it looks like an LMP, like one
- 1:07:33prototype, but it's it's it's actually a silver one, right?
- 1:07:37It's a Porsche built the silver one.
- 1:07:38Yeah, yeah, it's a Porsche built race car for the street, if you
- 1:07:42will. We're going to have that and
- 1:07:44then a ton of other stuff. I mean, just all of the anything
- 1:07:47you can imagine. So a lot of Radwood era, you
- 1:07:49know, you know, heavy hitting cars and but also this you're
- 1:07:53going to see some pre war, you know, blower Bentleys and and
- 1:07:57modern supercars, you know, and everything in between.
- 1:08:00So yeah, it's going to be a really good time.
- 1:08:02That's that's a super fun show. I'm I'm excited to be a part of
- 1:08:05it again this year. We've been doing it three years
- 1:08:07and you know, it's been a blast every single time.
- 1:08:10So that's that's the other spot we're going to be at with
- 1:08:13through the driving while awesome side of things.
- 1:08:15This is an event that we're putting on specifically for our
- 1:08:18patrons on Patreon and we're going to do a curated little
- 1:08:22kind of hang slash drive, if you will.
- 1:08:25So we're going to meet up with our group and then hang out with
- 1:08:28our sort of with our our listeners and then go, go on a
- 1:08:32drive and and spectate the what do you call it?
- 1:08:35The the Pebble Beach, the tour, yes, exactly down the coast
- 1:08:41there. So we did that last year and it
- 1:08:43was a ton of fun. There's going to be some food
- 1:08:45there and then that's sort of like the the end of the the
- 1:08:49major commitments. I might be doing some stuff at
- 1:08:51the track on. Saturday, but.
- 1:08:55That's it. Yeah.
- 1:08:56Yeah. But it's it's fun to be back at
- 1:08:59Laguna. Sorry at a car week with with a
- 1:09:02rad would have been because we've done a couple in the past
- 1:09:04and this one should be really fun too.
- 1:09:06Well, that's really exciting to have like the big new paddock
- 1:09:11event. That's a really big deal.
- 1:09:12Congratulations, Yeah. Yeah, thanks.
- 1:09:15Yeah, it's cool. I mean, it's it's it's I think
- 1:09:18an interesting concept, right. It's because, you know,
- 1:09:21everything's pretty expensive in, in Monterey, right?
- 1:09:24And, and, and there are some premier events that are, you
- 1:09:27know, even more so than just expensive and they're extremely
- 1:09:31exclusive and impossible to get into.
- 1:09:33And so that are on lawns and they do amazing stuff.
- 1:09:36And they're also events that I want to be a part of.
- 1:09:39But in this case, you know, it's something that's a little more
- 1:09:41approachable, you know, 100 ish dollars, but you get a lot of
- 1:09:45that vibe, right. So you're you're on on a golf
- 1:09:47course overlooking the ocean with good food and beautiful
- 1:09:51cars and great people. So yeah, it should be a good
- 1:09:53time. Even going to let us 2IN, so
- 1:09:55thank you. Yeah.
- 1:09:57We'll see you there and and make sure you bring your polo.
- 1:10:01Yes, period. Correct.
- 1:10:01Something with short sleeves right for.
- 1:10:03Sure. Yeah.
- 1:10:04So although in Monterey, you want to do the short sleeves
- 1:10:06under with a layer on title. Yeah, that's.
- 1:10:09Right. That's right.
- 1:10:10Yeah, cuz you never know what to expect there.
- 1:10:12It could be 40° and foggy or it could be 75 and sunny so.
- 1:10:17Yeah, absolutely. You might appreciate.
- 1:10:19It amazing either way. Hello.
- 1:10:21While we're there. There you go.
- 1:10:23Yeah, totally. Art, do you have time for one
- 1:10:25more question? Sure.
- 1:10:26From Instagram, it's the photographer's garage.
- 1:10:29Thank you. What city or market has Radwood
- 1:10:32not been to but would love to? That's a great question.
- 1:10:38This is a selfish one because Haggerty does not have a plan to
- 1:10:43enter this market. But I still want to do Japan.
- 1:10:49Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:10:50So I, I still would love to do Japan.
- 1:10:52Yeah. We, we experimented with the
- 1:10:54with the idea and it's challenging, it's tricky.
- 1:10:57It's a the way that, you know, just from doing business in
- 1:11:00Japan for so long, like you really got a breadcrumb your way
- 1:11:04to sort of introducing concepts and, you know, products to
- 1:11:08Japan. Like you just can't show up and
- 1:11:09be like, here's my new this buy it.
- 1:11:12Like everyone's like very like kind of slow to everything has
- 1:11:16to, you know, there's a method like there people are sort of
- 1:11:19reserved initially and and then eventually once they they're
- 1:11:22into it, they're like into it 150% right.
- 1:11:25So yeah, exactly. So I have some ideas around that
- 1:11:29and how to do that, but it's just, you know, again, like this
- 1:11:32is Bradwood is no longer mine, so to speak, or ours, right.
- 1:11:36It's like, you know, so I it is, it wouldn't be in the interest
- 1:11:40of the rest of the org, but like that is something that I would
- 1:11:43love to do still because there's some great venues.
- 1:11:46There's I mean, the coolest cars there because there's all the
- 1:11:49forbidden fruit that we didn't get here, right?
- 1:11:51Not just JDM like all the Europeans.
- 1:11:53Yeah. That's too so because they have
- 1:11:55access to all of that that we didn't see here.
- 1:11:57So as a matter of fact, you know, I'm going to throw a
- 1:12:00number out there, but I'd say 75 to 80% of all of the really cool
- 1:12:03Euro like AMG, Alpena, you know, Rs Carreras, the 96 fours, a lot
- 1:12:09of those are coming from Japan. And so because the market was
- 1:12:12booming there, right? And so they, they, they, they
- 1:12:14have a ton of that stuff there still.
- 1:12:16And yeah, I mean, Speaking of values and stuff going nuts, I
- 1:12:20remember being there, I went to a place, it was called LMP cars
- 1:12:24Oyama and Oyama. And I always walk past it
- 1:12:28whenever I was in Tokyo just to see what they had in the
- 1:12:30showroom because it was always the coolest stuff.
- 1:12:33And I walked up to it one day and there was a, it was a, it
- 1:12:37was a turbo Carrera. So this was like a 76, you know,
- 1:12:41this is an early car and three liter car.
- 1:12:44It's got the really cool little rear spoiler.
- 1:12:46It was and it was a chocolate brown car.
- 1:12:48It was like it was so rad lowered on gold BBS wheels.
- 1:12:52I'll never forget it. And this was in this was in 2013
- 1:12:56and they wanted 40 grand for it. And I was like, and I remember
- 1:13:00thinking like, can I make this work?
- 1:13:03Like, you know, and, and now that car's you know, you know, 6
- 1:13:07figures, easy 200 grand, you know, who knows whatever.
- 1:13:10And yeah, there was a lot of stuff there.
- 1:13:12People already caught on though, like I mean, I was way too late
- 1:13:14to the game. Like by the time I was actually
- 1:13:16in a position to buy some cars and sell them, like, they were
- 1:13:18already very valuable like, and that's hence why you see a lot
- 1:13:21of these cars being imported from there.
- 1:13:23Well, I would love to see a Japan, Japanese Radwood show.
- 1:13:27I think that would be I just think that would be amazing.
- 1:13:30And it sounds like you do too. So we'll we'll look for that in
- 1:13:33time. And and there's so much we
- 1:13:35didn't get to talk about tonight.
- 1:13:36The Driving Well Awesome podcast.
- 1:13:38We can talk about anything. All right, you got a few more
- 1:13:40minutes. Okay.
- 1:13:41I'm not in a rush. When you said 900 episodes for
- 1:13:44driving while awesome, like that's a huge achievement.
- 1:13:48I mean, just doing anything with other people 900 times is ask me
- 1:13:53how I know I'm very, very impressive.
- 1:13:56I mean, what's your secret? Yeah, you know, it's, it's, it
- 1:14:00is pretty, pretty amazing, right?
- 1:14:02Because in the time that we've been doing it, we've seen so
- 1:14:05many podcasts come and go. You know, it's, it's really
- 1:14:08hard, especially, you know, because this, our podcast in
- 1:14:13particular is, is not, I mean that we do make some money, but
- 1:14:17it's not the main focus, right? It's literally an outlet for us
- 1:14:19to literally meet up and, you know, and talk cars and drink
- 1:14:24some beers and, and, you know, and, and just kind of keep in
- 1:14:26touch, right. And like, and, and luckily that
- 1:14:28concept, you know, resonated with a lot of people and, and
- 1:14:32continues to do so. And so we just keep it going.
- 1:14:35There's we do do our rallies, which is a a big part of the
- 1:14:39podcast sort of ecosystem. But you know, I I'll, I'll admit
- 1:14:43that I came in a year after it was started because it was
- 1:14:46started 10 years ago by the three original Co founders.
- 1:14:49And I came in a year after that. So I've been on for about 9 now.
- 1:14:52And, and so it, it, it's yeah, it's been awesome.
- 1:14:56And I think a lot of it has to do with just like just being
- 1:15:00good friends, right? And it's like, and, and, and
- 1:15:02we've rarely rarely, rarely argue.
- 1:15:05Like, I mean, it's, it's you know, of course there's things
- 1:15:08can get heated at times with certain discussions.
- 1:15:10Never like a thing that is like, you know, to the point where
- 1:15:13like I'm walking away or anyway, it's just like, yeah, just like
- 1:15:17being very. We're also, it's kind of a
- 1:15:21perfect balance of having sort of like key tenants or just a
- 1:15:27foundation of like of what we appreciate.
- 1:15:30And I in those things being sort of like true across all three of
- 1:15:34us, right? Like we're all into like, you
- 1:15:36know, we love to drive our cars. We all love manual
- 1:15:39transmissions. What we we love, you know, also
- 1:15:42we're pretty easygoing, we're pretty open minded, you know,
- 1:15:45and we're like those things are sort of at the core of it,
- 1:15:48right? And we're legitimately all three
- 1:15:50of us are very, very hardcore car guys.
- 1:15:53So like, you know, we, we love this stuff.
- 1:15:55We're super nerdy about it. That helps.
- 1:15:57And then the rest of it is like pretty subjective, right?
- 1:16:00Like we have like I'm obviously into JDM stuff like, you know, I
- 1:16:03like certain things I look out of my car and you know, certain
- 1:16:07maybe aesthetic choices that they may not be into and vice
- 1:16:11versa. And like, and that's fine,
- 1:16:12right? We each kind of have our own
- 1:16:14thing going and like, and we're, we're also, we very, we take
- 1:16:20kind of like a comical approach to it, right?
- 1:16:21It's like we're pretty laid back with this whole thing.
- 1:16:23It's like we don't take ourselves too seriously and
- 1:16:26like, and I think that that having that kind of comedic
- 1:16:29element, like people like to write.
- 1:16:31And so it keeps things fun and and and and light hearted.
- 1:16:35Not always, but for the most part, right?
- 1:16:37It's this is all to have a good time, right?
- 1:16:40That's why we do this. This is it's literally like our
- 1:16:45outlet for like joy, you know, like that's what it's what we do
- 1:16:49to. There you go.
- 1:16:50Part of like the whole driving car culture thing, right.
- 1:16:53And so luckily we're all into it enough to where it just kind of
- 1:16:57has continued going. And, and also having, you know,
- 1:16:59Lane, who's the guy who's been sort of like the engineer behind
- 1:17:02the scenes, like keeping everything, you know, pumping
- 1:17:05and like he just has a really good system and, and is, you
- 1:17:08know, and, and just, and, and pushes this stuff out there and
- 1:17:11on a weekly basis for a while. We're doing 2 episodes a week
- 1:17:14and you know, it's, it's, it's a lot of work.
- 1:17:17That's a lot of people have no idea how much work upon.
- 1:17:21Yeah, it's a it's. Give it to you for free.
- 1:17:24Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:17:26And, and it's a yeah, it takes just commitment, dedication,
- 1:17:30right. Like, you know, we all have
- 1:17:31done, you know, our part in, in, in that like I used to commute,
- 1:17:35like I used to drive an hour and change every week to record from
- 1:17:39San Francisco to Santa Cruz, which our studio is.
- 1:17:41And I did that for years. And now I record by a Zoom
- 1:17:46because I'm not close enough to drive.
- 1:17:47But like, whenever I'm in town, we definitely, I record in the
- 1:17:50studio with them, but they're in the studio and.
- 1:17:52Yeah, OK. You know.
- 1:17:53Yeah. So there's, there's that and,
- 1:17:55you know, just with everything else, right, With family and
- 1:17:57life and everything, just like it's something that is on the
- 1:17:59calendar and we just stick to it.
- 1:18:01Yeah. That's kind of the.
- 1:18:02Yeah, the thing. Yeah, just becomes a routine, I
- 1:18:04suppose. And I I guess if you weren't
- 1:18:06doing it, you'd miss it, right. So it's just you're.
- 1:18:08Yeah, just do it, yeah. It's totally.
- 1:18:10Yeah, it is. And it helps too that, you know,
- 1:18:13it keeps us sort of relevant in the automotive space.
- 1:18:16You know, I mean, it's, it's a being really pragmatic about it.
- 1:18:19Like, you know, this is, this is how, you know, we stay like, or
- 1:18:23we get access to events and, you know, we have a voice and, and
- 1:18:26we're all of those things are important to us, right, as we
- 1:18:29build network and like connect to all these other people.
- 1:18:31Like it's the fact that we have this outlet and you know, it's,
- 1:18:36it's a platform that, you know, has an audience, like definitely
- 1:18:39helps us and it's, and it's, it's part of the the deal.
- 1:18:43You know, it's like definitely part of keeping us going.
- 1:18:45It's like, all right, like we want to continue this, right?
- 1:18:48We want to, we want to be able to, to do X and, and, and, and
- 1:18:52meet cool people like you guys, right?
- 1:18:54So like Sam, that that's a big part of it too.
- 1:18:56Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that's a great answer.
- 1:18:59You know it, it really is. One other question, if you've
- 1:19:03got a minute best, I don't know I was wording best Radwood
- 1:19:09playlist or soundtrack? What would be on your top five
- 1:19:13or top 10? Oh man, also a full mix.
- 1:19:19Right, like I I thought long and hard when I put a little promo
- 1:19:22together, I ended up on on new shoes because that just sort of
- 1:19:25seemed to encapsulate. OK.
- 1:19:27I don't know. You tell me.
- 1:19:29Yeah, you know it just. Well, there is how do I put
- 1:19:33this? I mean, the thing for me is also
- 1:19:35it has a lot to do with like mood, right?
- 1:19:37Because like I love David Bowie and like David Bowie always gets
- 1:19:40me moving, right? Like it's like I love like a lot
- 1:19:44of his music and I feel like you can't go wrong there.
- 1:19:48But sometimes I want to be, you know, it's I'm in a different
- 1:19:50mood, right? And I'm like, I'm more like, you
- 1:19:53know, East Coast, like, you know, early rap, right?
- 1:19:56So like I want to listen to, you know, stuff in that realm and
- 1:19:59so. And you know, I love the Beastie
- 1:20:02Boys, you know, still and you know, it, it just really depends
- 1:20:05on the mood. It's hard to say.
- 1:20:07I do have a super comprehensive playlist that we've compiled
- 1:20:10that we occasionally use for events.
- 1:20:13And it is a very wide array of music.
- 1:20:15You know, everything from like Fleetwood Mac to, you know,
- 1:20:18Vanilla Ice. So, you know, cuz it's amazing.
- 1:20:21You know, it's, it's the era was so like, you know, there was so
- 1:20:24much diversity in the music, right?
- 1:20:26Like in the in like look like Toto to comparing Toto to like
- 1:20:30MC Hammer, right? I mean like it's and you want
- 1:20:33both of them on the playlist, right.
- 1:20:34So yeah, I mean. Listen to the artist you just
- 1:20:37named. Like did you ever think you'd
- 1:20:38hear those in the same sentence? But like, it's of the time.
- 1:20:41But all good. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:20:43Yeah, but yeah, yeah, totally. Yeah.
- 1:20:45You want some, Sir? Mix a lot in there, you know,
- 1:20:47you want. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:20:49It's all awesome. Yeah.
- 1:20:51I mean, I we, you know, Warren and I travel a lot together
- 1:20:55because we're the ones that kind of boots on the ground at these
- 1:20:57shows. And so we listen to a lot of
- 1:21:00Hall and Oates that that's, you know, pretty iconic and you
- 1:21:03can't go wrong there. So yeah, hard to say.
- 1:21:07Like 1 tidy play. Sure, sure.
- 1:21:10I think I threw some options out there for.
- 1:21:12You like any good DJ, got to read the room right?
- 1:21:14And you know what the bangers are right?
- 1:21:17The Anthems. Right.
- 1:21:18So absolutely, yeah. I mean, Careless Whisper at
- 1:21:21Radwood, I don't know if I feel like that's the right.
- 1:21:23I like the song, but it's where you are.
- 1:21:25Makes sense? Japan, you know it would.
- 1:21:28It would be a hit. Right, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:21:30I mean, well, yeah, I mean, there's also I listened oddly
- 1:21:34enough, you know, that you mentioned that I listen to a lot
- 1:21:37of Japanese city pop, which is basic.
- 1:21:39It's music of Japan from the 80s and, and, and so it is, it's
- 1:21:45very interesting because it's definitely very heavily Western
- 1:21:48influence, but it's got like sort of a little bit of a jazzy,
- 1:21:51synthy vibe. And like, and there's there,
- 1:21:54there's also a few different bands that are very into like
- 1:21:56jazz fusion. And so, and it's one of my
- 1:21:59favorite genres and here like it's not super popular, but like
- 1:22:04if it was a rad one in Japan, I'd be inclined to play a ton of
- 1:22:06that stuff, you know. So I mean, I don't know if like
- 1:22:10LL Cool J would resonate sure over there, but.
- 1:22:13It's funny, like the 80s and 90s, you look back at now like
- 1:22:15they were these halcyon days, right?
- 1:22:17And at the time they, you know, they didn't seem so great.
- 1:22:19But I guess that's just how this works, right?
- 1:22:20Sentimentality and everything else but DM if they didn't put
- 1:22:23out a, a good, good soundtrack, right?
- 1:22:26So. Totally.
- 1:22:26Yeah. No, I mean I, I still, I still,
- 1:22:30I mean, I do I, I don't know. I mean, I, I, I guess I'm, I am
- 1:22:33maybe more of the stereotype. I do look back on it very fondly
- 1:22:36and like with the Rose colored, you know, gross tinted lenses,
- 1:22:39if you will, because like, especially because you're, it's
- 1:22:43a, it's mostly about where you are in your life, right.
- 1:22:45And so like when I it's like being a kid, you know,
- 1:22:48especially like for the 80s, right, I was a little younger,
- 1:22:51you know, I turned 40 something today, like, but like, I
- 1:22:53definitely remember like, like playing like playing Nintendo
- 1:22:56with my friends, right, the sleepover and like in 88 or
- 1:23:00something. That was super cool and it was
- 1:23:02one of the best experiences I ever had, right?
- 1:23:04We were just eating all the pizza in the world and we had
- 1:23:06nothing, no bills to pay, No, all the stuff, you know, just
- 1:23:10have no responsibilities. And then into the 90s, like
- 1:23:13actually getting my first car and then like, you know, and
- 1:23:16doing all that stuff. And then, you know, everything
- 1:23:18that comes along with with, you know, being a teenager and, and
- 1:23:21just sort of like, you know, sure, there were some challenges
- 1:23:24and not so great things, but like, and, and also you look at
- 1:23:27the macro, right, like political stuff, all that.
- 1:23:29Like I don't really look at that.
- 1:23:30I'm just like thinking about like, what was I into and what
- 1:23:33was like, you know, and that sort of thing, right.
- 1:23:35Because naturally every era is going to have some strife and,
- 1:23:38and, you know, and some issues, right.
- 1:23:40But I feel like, yeah, the overall though, like, I think
- 1:23:43it's just, it was a simpler time, right, As they say.
- 1:23:46And, you know, being able to like, you know, jump.
- 1:23:49Like I remember like leaving my house after dinner and riding
- 1:23:52bikes for three hours and coming back in the middle of the night,
- 1:23:55you know, and like, my parents didn't care as long as I got
- 1:23:58back, you know, I just, I needed to be back by 11:00 PM.
- 1:24:02You know, it was, it was not a school night and I could do
- 1:24:04whatever the hell I wanted. And it was awesome, you know?
- 1:24:06So there's little stuff like that, you know, of course, all
- 1:24:09the movies and there's all the pop culture.
- 1:24:11And that's what makes the Radwood stuff so popular, right,
- 1:24:13Is that you walk around an event and you're going to see all the
- 1:24:16memorabilia, all the ephemera, all of those things, you know,
- 1:24:19like you're going to see that memorabilia that that is tied to
- 1:24:24motorsport, sure, but also just pop culture stuff, right?
- 1:24:27Like we just had A at a Norcal event, we had an ecto, like a
- 1:24:31Ghostbusters ecto build with like Slimer and like all the
- 1:24:35Ghostbusters equipment. They built their own gear and
- 1:24:37their own, like, what do you call it?
- 1:24:39Their own. Oh, the proton packs.
- 1:24:41Yeah, the Proton packs, yes. Yeah.
- 1:24:43So they built them pretty legit, you know, and, and it was
- 1:24:47actually a JDM spin on it. It was like some sort of JDM
- 1:24:50like Toyota car wagon and they converted into an ecto.
- 1:24:53So I love it. Yeah, there's a ton of stuff
- 1:24:55like that, which is really fun. Raddus dressed at Radwood Norcal
- 1:24:59was Elliot from ET. Oh, I saw those pictures.
- 1:25:03That was amazing. Yeah.
- 1:25:04And she had the period correct BMX bike with the with the ET up
- 1:25:08front. And like we just happened to
- 1:25:10know family that both of you know, his parents are friends of
- 1:25:13ours and we had no idea that they were going to do that.
- 1:25:16And it was not up to us that he won the award.
- 1:25:18Like he was like overwhelmingly the most popular.
- 1:25:22So good I I can't see three kids on BMX bikes without thinking of
- 1:25:25ET. Right.
- 1:25:26Like it's just that's the impression that that movie left
- 1:25:29on. Totally.
- 1:25:30That's that's awesome. Absolutely.
- 1:25:32Well, keep doing the amazing work art.
- 1:25:34I mean, it's just, you know, like I said, Radwood really has
- 1:25:36become a movement and you know, it's a word that just about
- 1:25:39everyone knows, right? I mean, you're part of the
- 1:25:41lexicon and that's, I mean, I think that's the highest
- 1:25:43compliment. So thank you for joining us and
- 1:25:45and on your birthday nonetheless, So I know.
- 1:25:48Yeah, thanks. Yep.
- 1:25:49Yeah. And this is such a great
- 1:25:50birthday present. You're kind.
- 1:25:52Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:25:54Thank you. We'll look for you at Car Week
- 1:25:58as far as social media and all that, where to find you best
- 1:26:01places and and what's your next event, I guess after Car Week
- 1:26:04that we should look for? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:06So you can find us the podcast stuff and all the driving events
- 1:26:10that's driving while awesome at driving while awesome on all the
- 1:26:13things at Radwood official on all the things for Radwood,
- 1:26:16anything radwood.com, of course, for, you know, schedules and,
- 1:26:20you know, tickets and stuff like that.
- 1:26:22And then personally, I'm at art seas, so a RTS double ES.
- 1:26:28It's a play on my name. It's kind of a nerdy thing, but
- 1:26:33yeah, that that's probably the those are all of the main
- 1:26:36properties there that you'll find our stuff on.
- 1:26:38And next event will be in L Actually, no, I'm sorry.
- 1:26:43It's going to be in Detroit. So we're going to be a part of a
- 1:26:47thing again called cars at the station in front of the Michigan
- 1:26:50Central train station that Ford completely redid.
- 1:26:54I don't know if you guys saw that.
- 1:26:57And so we had a presence there last year ahead of our main
- 1:27:00event, our own standalone event. But this year we're actually
- 1:27:03totally integrating into that event.
- 1:27:05So we're going to do a display there, our own Radwood display
- 1:27:09as part of that experience. It's free to attend to the
- 1:27:12public, so check it out. If you want to submit a car,
- 1:27:15it's cars at thestation.com and you can just just put your
- 1:27:19information in there in the notes, say that you're
- 1:27:21interested in Radwood and you know, we'll, we'll take that
- 1:27:24into account. I think we're only going to do
- 1:27:25about 50 to 60 cars. So it's also pretty curated, but
- 1:27:30that that should be a fun time. And then after that, real quick,
- 1:27:33we're going to be in LA October 25th back at the same venue at
- 1:27:37the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro.
- 1:27:39Nice. We're going to do a takeover
- 1:27:41there again. And then November 20.

- 1:27:49and then November 15th, yeah, November 15th will be our Austin
- 1:27:53event. And so we're going back to CODA,
- 1:27:56which we have been to for this will be our fourth time I think
- 1:27:59there. But yeah, that's the sort of
- 1:28:02rounds up the year there. And then we're back at it again
- 1:28:05early next year. Thank you With the pop caller,
