- 0:00SPEAKER_00: On this episode of the Tailgate podcast, we are proud to announce our new sponsor, Def Charts, the most innovative site to track player movements, ratings, where those NFL players stack up on their own teams.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: And they also have some pretty awesome custom team merch.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: I like to think of it as a PFF meeting our lads, but with a little bit more depth.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Check them out at death charts.com or death underscore charts on Twitter and Instagram.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I am your host, Cameron Clark, and this is another college football recap slash preview show from looking at college football week four and looking ahead and doing our tail the tailgate segment for college football week five.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Plus, the NHL season is officially underway as of Tuesday, the 29th.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: The MLB playoffs are underway and we have results and games happening.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: The WNBA playoffs are in the thick of it in the middle of the first round as I speak.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: So there is a lot to get to.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: So let's go through the first games in the WNBA from Sunday when games one took place in all four series.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: The New York Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx 91 to 75, thanks in large part to 34 points and 12 rebounds from Brianna Stewart.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: She is an absolute machine.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Speaking of machines, the best player in the WNBA, Asia Wilson, went off against the Fever on Sunday for 38 points and 16 rebounds for the Aces to take game one.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: The Atlanta Dreams shut down the Mystics 92 to 77 to secure the first game there.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: And lastly, the Dallas Wings get blown out by the Golden State Valkyries 104-80.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: The tailgate will keep an eye across all of the WNBA games as they continue all the way to the end of the season.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: As we always do here on the Tailgate Cam podcast, we talk all sports all year long.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And that means it is time to talk college football.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: We are in the thick of it.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: This is really when we're beginning to see the division of what teams are really good and what teams just don't got it.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: So thanks to an incredible defensive effort, the biggest game from last week was Texas taking on Tennessee.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: And like I said, an incredible defensive effort led the way for Texas as they had 10 sacks, including five and a half sacks from Colin Simmons, one of which he probably wished he could have back because he got flagged for, as the referee said, simulating the use of a restroom.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, but he had an absolutely incredible day.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: He was half of a sack away from tying Elvis Doomerville for the all-time FPS sack record for a single game.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Just incredible stuff there from Colin Simmons.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Arch, he he was pretty underwhelming.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: I'm getting to the point where I don't believe that he I don't know if it's the poise, if it's like knowing Sark's system, but I'm getting to the point where he just doesn't look comfortable.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Everything that Texas does feels very forced on offense.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: They couldn't run the ball in this game.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: And really, the only chunk plays that they got were either set up by field position and special teams, or was just relying on Ryan Wingo and Cam Coleman to make incredible plays, which that helps.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Like having two great wide receivers, that certainly helps.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, but uh all that to be said, Texas deserves to be number one.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: They've beaten Ohio State, they've won a game now at Tennessee.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: They deserve to be number one.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Um, but I don't know if I would consider them the best team in the country.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I would consider them one of the three or four best teams in the country, honestly.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: If you were gonna stack up and play a game today, I think if they replayed Ohio State on a neutral site, that game most likely goes differently.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Um I would also say that through through different points, I feel like Texas can be very dominant, but it also just feels so streaky.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Like things just happen to go right for them.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: But that being said, they still have a lot of hard games to play.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Um, they still play Georgia, they play um Missouri, they played Florida, they have a lot of tough games ahead of them.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: So it'll be interesting to see if Texas is able to hold on to that number one ranking throughout the remainder of the season.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: The other big game in the SEC this past weekend was the Florida Gators exploding to the tune of 35 points in the second half to blow out number four Ole Miss, fresh off their win against LSU in what was the Bayou Super Bowl over Lane Kiffen.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Jaden Ball squarely deserves to be in the Heisman conversation.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: He's now second in the nation in rushing, right behind Duke's Nathan Shepard.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: He also leads the nation in rushing touchdowns, broken tackles, and yards after contact.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: He is an elite difference maker.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: And I really think when this team leans into Jaden Ball that Florida has a very, very difficult offense to stop because you cannot tackle that guy.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: You take multiple defenders to bring that guy down to the ground, and that guy creates real problems for opposing defenses, which then turns around to let Aaron Philo be a true point guard out to his great receiving core with Vernel Brown the third, Dallas Wilson, Eric Singleton, uh, just to name a few.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: They also have Micah Mays and Bailey Stockton that came in the transfer portal.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: They just have a ton of weapons on the outside perimeter.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: And then when you couple that with maybe the best running back in all of college football, it's very hard to defend.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: On the flip side of this game, Ole Miss came into this game ranked number four in the country.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Like I said, fresh off of that win against LSU the week before.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Trinidad and this Ole Miss offense, they're absolutely still a playoff contender.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: He's the best quarterback right now in college football.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Their defense, on the other hand, is is very concerning.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't really know the justification for having a defensive-minded head coach that does not win defensive games or propel his defense to be um not even great, but just average, which that would give me pause.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: I know that he's only been the head coach for now four games, but the defense wasn't good last year while he was the defensive coordinator.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I know he wasn't the head coach, but he was still running the unit and they weren't that great last year.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: So if that defense doesn't turn it around, Ole Miss will not make the playoffs.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: But I I don't really know what bodies they're gonna be able to throw at it outside of Will Eccles on the edge position and Antonio Kite at safety.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: They don't really have a lot of options there in terms of premier talent.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Moving over to the West Coast, Oregon and USC matched up this weekend, and the big story here was that Oregon lost their quarterback Dante Moore to a very, very vicious, I'll just say cheap shot.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Uh Dante Moore began his slide while the defender for USC um was about two and a half yards away.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: He had already begun his slide, the defender was still standing up, and he was uh hit in the helmet and immediately uh took took to a prone position and was clearly injured.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, USC was celebrating uh this hit on Dante Moore, and it was just a it was a really gross look.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Uh Desmond Stevens, who was the linebacker that hit uh Dante Moore, actually got um ejected from the hit and suspended, obviously, for the following game.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: The other big takeaway, aside from Dante Moore's health, obviously, hopefully he's okay and able to return at some point this season.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: But the the other takeaway from this is that USC was not able to capitalize from one of Oregon's best players, one of the best quarterbacks, one of the best NFL draft prospects leaving this game in the first half in a very close game.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: And USC could not take advantage of this.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: They do have a lot of young pieces outside of Jaden Maieva and their offensive line.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: I like the receivers, I like that Luke Waffle kid at defensive end.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: They have a lot of uh young players that I really like a lot, but they just can't put it together for 60 minutes to beat these good teams or better teams in most cases.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: And then from Oregon's perspective, how fortunate do they feel right now that the Brendan Soresby news came out after Dylan Rayola had already transferred to Oregon?
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: I think it's pretty well known that if that had not happened, Rayola most likely would be in Lubbock, Texas, quarterbacking the Red Raiders right now.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: But fortunately for the Oregon Ducks and their fans, they are able to lean on a guy that has 25 career starts heading into this season as a backup.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's you rarely even get that in the NFL, having a quality backup that has started games recently, and they have it in college.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: So that is an extreme luxury.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: It clearly paid off here as they were able to really sustain their offensive flow from when Dante Moore left the game to when Rayola came into the game, and ultimately Oregon got the better of UFC 41 to 27.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Staying in the Big Ten, Iowa, they brought justice to the college football world.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Western Michigan is shouting for the heavens, even though they got routed by Boise State this weekend and ended there.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Any hopes that they had of being the G6 representation in the playoffs.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: But Iowa, they go 91 yards and a minute and 46 seconds to score with no time remaining to drop Michigan to two and two.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Oop, I mean three and one.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, some signs of life, though, from Bryce Underwood in the passing attack for Michigan finally.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, that Alec Marsh kid is is really uh a good receiver for them.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know if this can be trusted to be consistent at this point for Bryce Underwood.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: You really need to see it.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Uh, but honestly, in a losing effort, there were more signs that I saw from Michigan here than there was in the game that they quote unquote won against Western Michigan.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: And ultimately, Iowa won an Iowa game.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: They played great defense, played great special teams in field position, and had timely offense as in the end of the game to win the game.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: And that is how Iowa has built their brand under Kirk Farrance, and it paid off, and they have a massive matchup coming ahead in our tail, the tailgate picks.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Let's go back down south to the SEC, where Mississippi State hosted my Missouri Tigers.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: This was an incredible quarterback duel between Austin Simmons, who was great.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: He had 295 yards and three touchdowns, but was out dueled by the Super Camario bro, Camario Taylor, who had 360 yards, three touchdowns, and the win.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Mizzou also had a pretty tough time containing Mississippi State running back Fluff Bothwell.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: He had 25 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, the other takeaway that I really took from this game was that Daydon Hopkins is an incredible difference maker for Mizzou.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: He had three and a half sacks in this game on Camario Taylor, bringing him up to six sacks on the season.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: And I know Mizzou lost, but it was a strong effort on the road in a very hostile environment.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: They set the Guinness record for the most cowbells that were rang in one location, uh, over 44,000, I believe.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: And that crowd was very loud.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Um, and I I liked a lot of Mizou's response, but that fourth quarter was not something to hang your hat on at all.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: The loser leaves leaves town bowl, as I liked to call it heading into last Saturday, was Texas AM heading down to Baton Rouge.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: AM obviously coming off of that loss to Kentucky at home the week before, and LSU, as I already mentioned, coming off of that loss to Ole Miss.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: This was a desperation game for both of these teams, and desperation is exactly where Texas AM will stay, thanks to Marcel Reed, who has been a complete disaster.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: For those who have been listening to the Tailgate Cam podcast since we started, you may remember that I suggested that Marcel Reed could be a dark horse for the Heisman.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Well, if that wasn't already gone after they lost to Kentucky, it is blown up into Smithereen's after they got dominated by LSU.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: He had 106 yards and a pick.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: They looked absolutely terrible on offense.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: I I'm hard pressed to actually figure out who AM is capable of beating on the remainder of their schedule.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: Um on the LSU side, you know, I do think this cools temperatures a bit around the emotion off of that old miss game where it felt like the sky was sort of falling, but I think LSU regroup regrouped pretty well.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: I I expected them to regroup, um, but they regrouped pretty well.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: And Jackson Harris, he had six catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Uh moving over to the the Big Ten, the Penn State Cyclones, I mean the Nittany Lions, excuse me, they just have so many former Iowa State guys that I keep calling them the Penn State Cyclones.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: They dropped a home game to Wisconsin 24 to 20, despite three interceptions and two fumbles from Wisconsin quarterback Colton Joseph.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: Joseph was able to really keep Wisconsin moving through most parts of this game.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: He still had 295 yards.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: They were able to run the ball decently well.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: Um they they averaged 4.3 yards per carry.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Um, Darien Dupree had a couple nice runs for them.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: And Jacob Harris as well.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: He had five catches for 105 yards and a touchdown.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, just a brutal loss for Penn State.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: You know, the Penn State deserved to be ranked crowd.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: I thought it was on pretty thin margins before this.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: They hadn't played anybody, they didn't really play that well against Temple.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: They played a really bad Buffalo team, and then you go and lay an egg at home against Wisconsin.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: It's just inexcusable.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Um, and then one of the last games I really want to dive into in detail is another brutal home loss, and that was for Louisville and Wake Forest.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Um, I I was really high on Louisville.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: This was a really disappointing effort, especially in the second half.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: They were able to manage just six points uh in the entire second half.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: They were shut out in the fourth quarter when they were trailing the entire time.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: And for large stretches of this, it just felt like when the when the downs mattered, Louisville could not get a conversion on third or fourth down.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: Uh looking at the team stats for this game, Louisville was seven of fourteen on third down.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: I'd be curious if we broke that down into the second half, what that really looked like.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: They were also 0 for 1 on fourth down, um, but just not a good display.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: Wake Forest outgained them um uh total yardage-wide, they ran all over Louisville's defense.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: They had 177 rushing yards, multiple running backs getting explosive carries on them.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Just not a good look for Louisville.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: Uh, brutal loss there, but maybe Wake Forest is okay.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Jake Dickert, who really did a great job with Wake Forest last year after coming over from Washington State the year before, he's continued right where he left off in 2025 by being a leader by getting a good quarterback that he pulled out of a bad situation and a bad fit on offense for him in Gio Lopez.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: And it just seems to work now with Wake Forest.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: They took Miami to a very close game where they maybe could have made it even closer at the end of that if Hernandez came down with that with that pass at the end.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Um, but a lot to like there for Wake Forest, a lot to hate there if you're a Louisville Cardinal fan.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Some other notable for performances or outcomes, the seat only continues to get hotter for Shane Beamer as they got blown out by Alabama 49 to 18.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: Those people that have been harping on the Lenore Sellers train, I don't know where they're at.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know if this is um if they're in hiding or if they're getting ready for Halloween and they have disappeared for the time, but I have not seen Lenore Sellers fans anywhere on Twitter, and nor should I.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Dylan Stewart also got ejected from this game for fighting an Alabama player.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: It just seems like things are about as bad as they could be in Columbia, South Carolina.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: And I would not be shocked if Shane Beamer gets fired before the season ends.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Speaking of bad experiences, the John Matteir experience continues to be an up and down roller coaster, but mostly down since the end of last season on three consecutive drives against Georgia, a team where you know you have to bring your best.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: Three consecutive drives against Georgia.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: John Matthear had a fumble, an interception, and a fumble.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Just never gonna cut it.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: They get blown out by Georgia 41 to 13.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: Cincinnati, kind of the surprise right now in the Big 12.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: They moved to 4-0 after knocking off Big 12 contender Kansas State and Avery Johnson.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: They defeat them 31 to 26, staying in the Big 12.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: Oklahoma State, three straight wins after their opening loss to Tulsa in week one.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Drew Mestermaker threw for 389 yards and three touchdowns on the road against West Virginia, who was 3-0 before this game.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: Really impressive game from Oklahoma State.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: Gotta like what you see there from uh Mestermaker in this Oklahoma State offense.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: Um, even Hawkins, their running back, he's has really taken some strides since that first loss to Tulsa.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Um, but a really great showing here for um Oklahoma State.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Minnesota won a big game on the road after losing their last game uh to Mississippi State.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: They were able to get a big win on the road at Washington.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Drake Lindsey threw for three first half touchdowns in Washington.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: Man, do they have some problems?
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: They are both now three-and-one.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Minnesota moves to three and one, Washington falls to three and one and gets their first loss of the season.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: Trouble may be brewing for Demon Williams and Jed Fish.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: Uh, and then staying in the Big 12 or the Big Ten, excuse me.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: UCLA, are they already back with new head coach Bob Chesney?
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: They went across the country where they were slight road favorites.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: I mentioned this last week on the tailgate pod, but I mentioned that that slight line favorite really indicated something that a bad UCLA team was getting uh one and a half points on the road at Maryland, and they not only covered, they covered that by about 50 extra points.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: They won 54 to 3, and there's already rumors swirling about that Mike Loxley, the Maryland head coach, is going to be fired.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: Some of the best performances I saw from week four before we get into week five.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Heinschel threw for 403 yards and six touchdowns.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And that guy only had to play about five minutes into the third quarter as the Pitt Panthers routed FCS Bucknell.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: Stanford's Davis Warren threw for 396 and three touchdowns against the little Mendoza brother and Georgia Tech.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: And Stanford moves to two and two.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Georgia Tech falls to one and three.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Indiana running back Lee B24 carries for 203 yards and a touchdown and a very Very close six-point win for Indiana over Northwestern.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: Jeremiah Smith maybe had the performance of the day.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: 12 catches, 217 yards, and four touchdowns in a very big win for Ohio State against Illinois.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: And Texas edge Colin Simmons had five and a half sacks and a huge win in Knoxville.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: After the short break, we will be back to break down the biggest games for week five heading in the college football season.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Now to get to week five and our tail the tailgate picks.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: One of the games that I already teased doing our recap of week four was the I the Iowa Ohio State game.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: Ohio State travels to Iowa City.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: 3:30 Eastern is the kickoff.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: Ohio State comes into this game favored by 14, and the total is set at 45 and a half.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: When I look at the matchup between these two teams, Ohio State and Iowa, one of two possible outcomes could happen.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: One, this game goes under, and Iowa is able to affect Julian Sand enough, which he does not take on a lot of pressure.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: He also does not do well under pressure.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: Um maybe Iowa can create enough havoc to throw the passing rhythm off and then get in the running lanes for Ohio State and essentially muddy this game up enough to stay in it.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: But honestly, I just think that Ohio State has too many weapons.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: Um, I think they're one of the two or three best teams in all of college football.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: I also think that coming off an emotional road win like they did against Michigan last week, that is a really tough place to bounce back and get a home win up again for Ohio State.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take Ohio State minus the 14 here in Iowa City.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: Now moving over to Mizzou's homecoming, where they host the now top 10 ranked Florida Gators at 3:30 Eastern Time.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Florida goes on the road, and they are favored by five and a half in Columbia, Missouri.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: The total is set at 56 and a half.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: The ultimate line here that I think stands out the most is that I don't really trust either of these passing defenses.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: Um I think Austin Simmons is a very, very talented quarterback that it's hard to really shut that guy down for four quarters.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: I don't love Missouri's running game.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: I think they've had a lot of issues running the ball throughout the season.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Um and Florida's defense has been very suspect at times.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the over 56 and a half between Florida and Mizzou.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: I don't really like laying the five and a half with Florida in this instance.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: I think Mizzou plays very, very well at home, especially under Drinkowitz.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: And I also think that coming off, like I just said about Iowa, coming off a very big emotional win where that was, you know, a massive game that Florida was looking forward to all offseason against Old Miss.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: I think that's hard to lay five and a half on the road.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Could easily see this being a three-point game either way, but I'm going to take the over 56 and a half because I don't think either defense will do a great job stopping the other.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: Staying in the SEC, the team that just beat Mizzou, Mississippi State, they host the Alabama Crimson Tide at noon.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Bama travels on the road, favored by six.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 59 and a half.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you what, it's hard to pick against the Super Camario bro.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: So I'm not gonna do it.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: I'm taking Mississippi State plus six, and honestly, I think they get the upset.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: I think they really get up for this game.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: I think they have a lot of dynamic playmakers, and I think they let Camario run a lot more than he did last week, but he's just so effortless with his with his execution of this offense.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: That first touchdown that he threw against Mizzou last weekend was just outstanding.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, the guy is so calm under pressure, never never poised.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: And if you hear his interviews after the game, he's just someone that's so easy to root for.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: Give me Mississippi State, the Bulldogs, plus six at home in Stark Vegas.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Miami travels to Clemson for a 730 kickoff.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Miami goes on the road, favored by 16 and a half.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: The total is set at 47 and a half.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: And the honest truth here is I have no trust in Clemson's offense.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: I know they beat North Carolina, it felt like a fluke.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: Um, I know that they went on the road and beat Clemson or Cal Cal last week on Friday night.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: Um also felt like a fluke.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: They had a couple big special teams plays, and they have one of the lowest average depths of target out of any team in college football.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: My fear with my pick is that Miami could just route Clemson and maybe hit close to this number on their own.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: But I am going to take the under 47 and a half.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: I don't trust Clemson's offense to match up even at home in a night game in what used to be called Death Valley.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you can call it that when Tate Reynolds is your quarterback.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the under 47 and a half in Miami and Clemson.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: Washington and USC.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: If there's one thing that I know about these two teams, is they both desperately, desperately need to win, and they both desperately, desperately need to rebound.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: Washington coming off of a loss against Minnesota.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: USC, as we talked about in the week four recap, coming off of a loss against Oregon.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: USC comes into this game favored by nine and a half.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: The total is set at 58 and a half, or excuse me, 57.5.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: And I am taking the over.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: I think this game is of too much importance for both of these teams.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: I know Washington has had a lot of struggles early on this season, um, but USC ultimately has a pretty unreliable defense.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: As we saw, they could not slow down Dylan Rayola, they have not slowed down San Jose State.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: You know, the only team that they really slowed down was Fresno State, which I don't know if you really want to put that on your post-it card, but I'm going to take the over 57.5 between Washington and the Trojans.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: 4-0 Pitt.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: They travel to Blacksburg, Virginia to take on the 4-0 Virginia Tech Hokies Friday night at 7 p.m.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: Eastern.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: Virginia Tech is favored at home by 3.5.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 54 and a half.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: These are two really good quarterbacks, maybe two of the best besides Mensa in the ACC.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Mason Heinchel on Pittsburgh side, uh, Ethan Grunkemeyer, the former Penn State quarterback on the Virginia Tech side.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Pitt Panthers on the road here.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: I trust Heinschel a little bit more than I trust Virginia Tech.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: I know this is a hostile environment, but I like what Pat Narduzi has to work with in his offense.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: And also shout out to Cade Bell, former Fleming Island Golden Eagle quarterback.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: He is the offensive coordinator for the Pitt Panthers.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: Give me Pitt plus three and a half.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: BYU and TCU square off in Dallas, 7 p.m.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Saturday night.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: BYU is favored by 6.5 on the road.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 47.5.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: TCU, they just come up came off of a bad loss on the road at UCF while UCF was missing their starting quarterback.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: And this line still is at 6.5.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: I think that tells you everything you need to know about what Vegas thinks about BYU and about a sophomore quarterback in Bear Bachmeyer traveling on the road.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: I think this is a proven opportunity for BYU.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: And I am saying prove it.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: Give me Sonny Dykes fighting for his life and his coaching life with the Horn Frogs.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: Give me the Horn Frogs plus six and a half.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: And our last pick goes to Cincinnati and Arizona at 11 p.m.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: Eastern kickoff time.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: The Wildcats are favored by seven on the spread.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: The total is 55 and a half.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: And I know I just talked up Cincinnati, the Bearcats.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: They are 4-0.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: It's a great story, but this is a long ways from home.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: This is a late kickoff, a pack 12 after dark showing.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: And I think Arizona with Noah Fafita is still a very potent team, especially when they play at home in Tucson.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take Arizona minus the seven at home to get a very big win over undefeated Cincinnati.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: A few other notables that I want to point out.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: Texas Tech travels to Colorado, where Texas Tech is favored by 12.5.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: Marshall travels to James Madison, where James Madison is favored by 18.5.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Virginia travels to Florida State, where Florida State is a two and a half point home dog to the Hoosiers.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: Navy travels to Air Force in Colorado, where Air Force is a three-point home favorite.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: And Michigan travels to Minnesota, both teams fresh off, well, actually, excuse me, Minnesota fresh off of a big win at Washington, and Michigan fresh off that heartbreaking loss to Iowa.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: Michigan is a five and a half point road favorite.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: The one that sticks out to me there is honestly Michigan in Minnesota.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: I think that could be a very fun game.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: It might be low scoring, but if Bryce Underwood continues to take some strides on that offense and Drake Lindsay on the other side, that could be a pretty fun close game.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: I would probably take Minnesota at home plus the five and a half.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: Um, but that is not one of our picks.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: So that is not go on the record.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: So to recap our year-long record right now on the tail the tailgate picks for college football, we are 17, 14, and one.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: We are up 1.1 units so far on the season.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Last week was one of our uh worst weeks of the season.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Or excuse me, last week we had a pretty good week.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: We were positive 1.75 units compared to week three, where we were up 5.55 units.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: So we've really started to climb our way out of the trenches after a pretty bad week zero and a bad week two.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: Now we are positive at 1.1 units.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: So to recap, our picks for week five, Ohio State minus 14, Florida, Missoo over 56.5, Mississippi State plus six, Miami and Clemson under 47.5, Washington, USC over 57.5, Pitt plus 3.5, BYU plus 6.5, Arizona minus 7.5, and those are our tail, the tailgate picks.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: And to wrap up today's episode, our gold star of the weekend, I gotta give it to Lions running back Jameer Gibbs.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: He's the gold star of the weekend.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: He had 99 rushing yards, 65 receiving yards, seven catches, three total touchdowns, and a very close win over the Jets, 31 to 24.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Jameer Gibbs, you are our gold star of the week.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: And what to watch for the rest of this week until football comes back?
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: Well, I already mentioned NHL is back.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: The WNBA playoffs are extremely underway, and we have MLB wildcards, the Yankees and the Red Sox, the Cubs and the Padres, the White Sox and the Astros, and the Phillies and the Braves.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Tune in to everything we got going on and make sure you follow along the Tailgate Cam podcast.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: I am your host, Cameron Clark.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for listening.
