Transcript
- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Paradise, Lost found it.
- 0:14Well, good. We talked about the good, the
- 0:18bad, the ugly, and the Absurd, and all of our favorite.
- 0:21And least favorite. Scary movies, because we believe
- 0:23every horror movie rightfully, has its fanbase.
- 0:27My name is Travis. My name is Jessie.
- 0:29And today we are talking about behind the mask, the rise of
- 0:32Leslie Vernon. Yeah.
- 0:34But before we get into any of that, fun, we have other fun.
- 0:39Jesse. Do you have any announcements?
- 0:41No, no announcements. All right.
- 0:44Moving on into poles, then last Week, we talked about 47 meters
- 0:49down uncaged. So we just wanted to know how
- 0:53would you guys prefer to go out as in die?
- 0:57So on Instagram, 46 percent of people would want to be eaten by
- 1:03a shark. 15% would rather drown. 38 percent would be attacked by
- 1:09the whirlpool over on Twitter. 25%.
- 1:13What's the shark 38% once the whirlpool 37%?
- 1:17Wants to drown. Now, maybe not what I want,
- 1:20might be the wrong word for this but maybe prefer have all those
- 1:25options if you're in the sea in the water.
- 1:28I really curious about your choice to frame the whirlpool as
- 1:32attacking people. I thought that it was like,
- 1:36sucking them down in there and begging them up.
- 1:38That's why we were talking about with the current at least.
- 1:41Yeah, but it makes it sound like the rural.
- 1:44Whirlpool is like actively attacking.
- 1:47People instead of just, you know, existing as a Whirlpool
- 1:50just doing his thing. Yeah, okay.
- 1:52Sure. That's more fair to the
- 1:54whirlpool I guess. Yeah, okay sure.
- 1:56Alright. So just the world whirlpools.
- 1:58Okay, well my choice is shark. I'd rather be if I'm going out,
- 2:02you know, at least I'm contributing to the food chain,
- 2:08okay? Whirlpool because it seems the
- 2:12quickest. See, I think the shark thing
- 2:14would be the quickest. Hmm, it depends if they just
- 2:18like, what? If they just want your little
- 2:20foot. See that I can get out of there?
- 2:22All right, I can swim. Yeah.
- 2:25But that's gonna hurt. You're gonna have lots of rehab.
- 2:28You've got shitty insurance, so what kind of prosthetic are you
- 2:30going to get damn. Okay, so I mean I think I'll be
- 2:34okay, your HSA will cover like a peg leg, I can add, I can
- 2:38handle. I can handle it.
- 2:40Okay, I'll manage just fine. All right, okay, that's her
- 2:44pull. Okay.
- 2:45All right, so yeah, everybody, we're talking about behind the
- 2:49mask, the rise of Leslie Vernon. So Leslie, Vernon Vernon.
- 2:56All right, so this movie came out, July 8. 2006 it premiered
- 3:03at the Fantasia film festival and it had its at wide release
- 3:08in In March, March 16th of 2007. Okay.
- 3:14We watched this on Amazon Prime. Hm, it is currently not anywhere
- 3:20to stream. No.
- 3:21So if you want to go to a streaming service, you may find
- 3:24that. However, when I was Googling the
- 3:26movi today, I did see that somebody has uploaded it to
- 3:30YouTube, so there is a free option.
- 3:34If you want to go that route, but it's not, it's not legal it.
- 3:39Not illegal, but it's legal. If you watch it that way because
- 3:42you're not responsible for, you can do it.
- 3:44It's, you know, the person that gets in trouble, take advantage
- 3:46of it. But if you want to be a person
- 3:50that wants to give the money, then you can rent it on Prime,
- 3:53like we did Voodoo YouTube. Google play.
- 3:56All of the options that we always list.
- 3:58What's your least favorite movie supports movies?
- 4:03Yeah, we do. I'm just gonna put it that way.
- 4:06Hmm we're not officially condoning.
- 4:09Streaming illegally. Yes.
- 4:11Yeah, even though that's still illegal either way, whatever,
- 4:14support the people. Yeah, filmmakers.
- 4:18Yeah, these guys are here so it's written by skog Wasserman
- 4:21and David. Steve directed by Scott
- 4:24Wasserman. Did you say his name is David?
- 4:25Steve it's weird. So it's spelled St.
- 4:30Ieve. Oh okay, I was picturing like
- 4:33two first names. Yeah, I would say that Steve or
- 4:36CV. I don't know or Style.
- 4:39I've Stave Stave maybe save, don't know, I don't know, I
- 4:44don't know. I like Dave, Steve David Steve?
- 4:46Yeah. Dave see okay music by Gordy.
- 4:49Hob and special effects by Eddie friend.
- 4:54We names. Okay, that's rude.
- 4:57Okay, now we're names, nevermind more names.
- 5:01Film stars, Nathan basil, as Leslie, Vernon, Angela Goethals,
- 5:06as Taylor. I'm butchering these names, I'm
- 5:09sure. Ben pace is Doug, Britain
- 5:12Spelling's as Todd, Robert Englund as doc Halloran Scott,
- 5:17Wilson, as Eugene and Bridget Newton as Jamie, okay, budget or
- 5:23Buckhead, Jesse. I'm thinking that this is bug.
- 5:26Ted. Yes, I do not have a budget for
- 5:29this, but it is very clearly but but Ted.
- 5:34So don't have that. I think almost any time anything
- 5:39is found footage or mockumentary or whatnot.
- 5:43It's generally going to be usually a low budget.
- 5:47This is a weird one too, where it's half and half.
- 5:50So like the first half of the film is found-footage
- 5:52documentary and then the second half is You like a full-blown
- 5:56movie for that portion of it but yeah you're right they talk
- 6:01about the budget a little bit so I'll get into some of that
- 6:03detail here in a second but the opening box office for when this
- 6:07thing did finally release was thirty eight point five
- 6:10thousand. Wow.
- 6:12So 38 and a half thousand dollars, that was opening
- 6:15worldwide gross was 69,000. IMDb 6.7.
- 6:21So it's got a good. I'm DB Square.
- 6:24Lease could be better. Oh, I'll take it.
- 6:26Yeah, all right. Got three movies here, that have
- 6:30nothing to do with each other, nothing relating at all.
- 6:32Just three movies from 2006. All of these, I have watched at
- 6:35least, okay? To me to you to have a watch
- 6:39them together. Not all of these, oh boy.
- 6:41But to boy two or three, actually, I'm, I'm taking a
- 6:45guess here to think that you watch the first one.
- 6:48I'm pretty sure you. Because we've talked about it
- 6:50kind of, it's When a Stranger Calls.
- 6:52Oh, yeah, yeah, okay. So that came out.
- 6:55February 3rd, 2006. That had a budget of 15 million
- 6:58dollars. Yes.
- 6:59Worldwide gross of 67 million dollars.
- 7:02Okay. IMDb of 5.1?
- 7:05Yeah, that sounds about right. This better than I expected for
- 7:08that, honestly. I feel I don't know how people I
- 7:13don't know what the debate where the discussion around.
- 7:15This remake is if it's like a good one compared to the first
- 7:18one because I've never seen. Original, you've seen the first
- 7:2110 minutes of the original, which is literally all you need.
- 7:24The rest is kind of a slow and that's the thing I think that
- 7:27this movie, takes that concept and makes that first thing the
- 7:30entire movie. Yeah, which probably is better.
- 7:33But is there enough material there?
- 7:35I remember liking it, but then again, at the time I was just
- 7:38kind of cheered because there's like an indoor Greenhouse with
- 7:41like oh I remember that. And the Treehouse also was a
- 7:45guest house or something. I can't remember.
- 7:47But I remember her seeing the wide on On in the distance they
- 7:50have to kind of just add a lot to it.
- 7:52They do they pat it a little bit but you know like that's a movie
- 7:55that you probably do that without sacrificing anything.
- 7:59I would think. Okay, next up Slither.
- 8:04Oh yeah, we watch that for the first time last year.
- 8:07Yeah, it was a fun one that came out.
- 8:10March 31st, 2006 with the 15 million dollar budget noticing a
- 8:15theme Here. Worldwide gross 12.8.
- 8:19Million. What.
- 8:20Nothing flops. How sad I'm DB of 6.5.
- 8:25OK, it's a cult hit. Yeah, it's James Gunn written
- 8:29and directed it has fuck. What's the dude's name?
- 8:33The guy that I was wearing his name?
- 8:36We're over. Remember.
- 8:40Michael Rooker? Yes.
- 8:41Yeah. Michael Rooker.
- 8:43I knew you did. And just finished next time.
- 8:52Yeah, Joey Fischer was married to James Gunn at the time, which
- 8:55makes sense. I forgot.
- 8:56She's like the, she's a really funny side character.
- 8:59Who does a thing that I do when we were recording all the time,
- 9:02which is just nodding. Yeah.
- 9:04When nobody can like it's audio. I don't listen to the time on
- 9:08the phone. Okay, so yeah, we got all that
- 9:12there and the final one you and I watch this this is like one of
- 9:15the first movies that we watch together.
- 9:17Well, we first started dating Dimension Nathan Jillian, no
- 9:19name is there's going to be a bunch of nerds out there that
- 9:21are going to get really mad. That we mentioned a Nathan
- 9:24Fillion Project without saying, anything Fillion.
- 9:26I am one of those aren't actually.
- 9:28I am so sad that we forgot our boy.
- 9:30Nathan Fillion you forgot. I've mentioned them.
- 9:33Okay. You were going to go right past
- 9:34it. Yeah, you're just going to
- 9:35single me out there. Yep, sure.
- 9:37Okay. Absolutely.
- 9:38Alright, moving on, to the good times of our relationship.
- 9:41One of the first movies we watch when we first started dating,
- 9:45Can you guess what? We watched?
- 9:47So many movies. We've talked about this recently
- 9:49like that. Just in conversation.
- 9:51We scrolled by it. The sequel to that, at least
- 9:55direct the video. Of course this is, it's not
- 9:59narrowing this down at, all right?
- 10:01I mean it was like our entire movie.
- 10:04We watched in 2012 and it was direct-to-video.
- 10:07And we rented it. And that is like, every movie
- 10:09that we watched at that time. Yeah.
- 10:11Okay. It's rest, stop.
- 10:13Oh shit. Yeah.
- 10:15So that movie came out, October 7 2006 don't have a budget.
- 10:21It's straight-to-video like I said, but I do have what it made
- 10:24on its physical media sells, it was five million dollars.
- 10:28My mom and I found that while scrolling one night, I really
- 10:32just. Yeah, we just watched it.
- 10:34So how you watched it for the first time?
- 10:35Uh-huh. Okay, we're both like little
- 10:38uncomfortable. That's why you suggested it?
- 10:40Probably. Okay, cool.
- 10:42Well I can tell you that the budget was lower than that.
- 10:44That because it was noted that it made a decent profit.
- 10:48I mean, yeah, I guess it's probably, I don't say under a
- 10:53million 100 million or at a million Max because it's a three
- 10:58people at it, like a rest stop in the middle of the desert.
- 11:02Yeah, it's a good movie. If you guys are interested in
- 11:04something like that, that little premise, alone getting you.
- 11:07No matter rest, stop pretty things.
- 11:09Can happen. There breakdown, don't know 4.5
- 11:14on Phoebe. That's not favorable.
- 11:17No shameful know, it's been a while since I've watched it.
- 11:21So I can't say if that's accurate or not.
- 11:25Yeah, I wonder how I'd feel about it.
- 11:26If I watched it we should try it again.
- 11:28Ten years difference, you know? Yeah, we've changed.
- 11:31We've gone. We have matured, we've matured
- 11:35into liking shittier movies. All right.
- 11:43Tagline just one tag. Fine.
- 11:45Just once. Yeah, but it's a pretty good
- 11:46one. Okay.
- 11:48Jason Freddy Myers. We all need someone to look up
- 11:52to. Yeah, it's it.
- 11:57I think it's weird that they first name all of them and then
- 12:00get to Mikey. You can do Michael.
- 12:03Yeah, Michael. But I guess they want to be more
- 12:08on a lastname basis. Oh, yeah, Myers.
- 12:11Yeah. I know him.
- 12:13Oh yeah. Frederick faces.
- 12:14True story. Yeah, I just called him
- 12:17Frederick, by the way, I know. Oh, I made a note of it when
- 12:20they bring it up in the movie he said Fredrik.
- 12:25Yeah, so that's that's the tagline.
- 12:27And I think it's pretty good. I felt like that this movie
- 12:30could have had more but, you know, they don't have the budget
- 12:34to spare on multiple taglines. Probably not probably not, okay?
- 12:39So, onto the fun facts. Okay?
- 12:42So this movie was filmed from November 4th, through December,
- 12:453rd in 2004, that's a really short time.
- 12:48It is in, it was like 2 years before it even premiered, which
- 12:52is even crazier. Mostly shot in Portland and the
- 12:55surrounding towns. So, think about their budget,
- 13:00it's was low enough to where it kind of kept them from being
- 13:04able to properly Scout areas. So a lot of times they ended up
- 13:07having to scout locations as they were filming, and they
- 13:11would have to adjust the script and rewrite to accommodate
- 13:15things like that, Scott Wilson who plays Eugene was included
- 13:20because he was recommended by Robert Englund.
- 13:23So, Have a work history together.
- 13:25I think that's cool because one of the things I was thinking,
- 13:28when I was watching, this is how this guy managed to pull into
- 13:33name actors. And this is his first movie.
- 13:37Well, known Scott Wilson. I primarily know him from the
- 13:41earlier seasons of The Walking Dead.
- 13:43That's what he's most known for ya as Joe Bob said, at this
- 13:46point, everybody in their mom's, been in The Walking Dead.
- 13:49It's just like, that's true. New Zealand Actors, and The Lord
- 13:53of the Rings. Rings.
- 13:54Yeah, that's true. But I mean, he was an impactful
- 13:57character back whenever it's still mattered, you know, like
- 13:59if you're in later Seasons, it's probably less impressive.
- 14:04Nothing to like, take away from anybody, who made it onto the
- 14:06Walking Dead, still an accomplishment, but yeah, like
- 14:09Scott Wilson. He said, if you recognize him,
- 14:11he's got a recognizable face. Yeah, so, yeah, speaking of
- 14:15Eugene, he was originally written as Billy Lynn's, from by
- 14:20Christmas. So, that is why he, he's Kind of
- 14:23Wesley's, Mentor, he talks about the Golden Era of the 60s and
- 14:2770s. That's what the writers have
- 14:30always had him. As he's always been Billy.
- 14:32Yeah, I feel like, I've read this online that it's like,
- 14:35okay, I'm glad to hear that. It's confirmed from the
- 14:37filmmakers because it's always been a fan theory that yeah, it
- 14:39was meant to be Billy in there. Yeah, they confirmed it.
- 14:42I was reading a lot of this stuff came from an interview
- 14:44they gave for the party disgusting, but in their minds
- 14:47into them to this day that is Billy.
- 14:50But whenever they were riding it and making it, they kind of Just
- 14:53changed it into an amalgamation of all of the killers from the
- 14:57era. They're just kind of Hit the
- 14:58tropes instead of just going off of the kind of wanted to get the
- 15:02guy. That was kind of a Pioneer, but
- 15:04didn't get all the glory as he's other people.
- 15:06Did you know what was said, is there on the concept of an Ahab
- 15:11which bill is really a thing for him?
- 15:13Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:14That didn't really happen until Michael.
- 15:17Oh, and actually, Mike was pretty much the only one that
- 15:19has an Ahab. Really that's just like a
- 15:22Halloween Trope. Yeah.
- 15:24I think in Friday the 13th there's always a person that's
- 15:28like we got to go get Jason. Yeah, but it's not like a
- 15:32single-minded person that shouldn't have dr.
- 15:35Credentials. Yeah.
- 15:39Klosterman. And Steve Stave Stevie they
- 15:43originally did have a plan for this to become a Trilogy because
- 15:46they felt like that was kind of, for my part of the formula,
- 15:50which would play into the That like, all these movies in need
- 15:53to have at least a trilogy, but a lot of that kind of pinched on
- 15:56the success of this film, which did not do well.
- 16:00As we've already talked about, it's more of a cult hit than
- 16:03anything it slowly gained the fan base, but it didn't really
- 16:07make big waves when we first came out which kind of
- 16:09dishearten them. They were working like
- 16:12spitballing ideas for the sequel as they were shooting this, but
- 16:17once they saw the reception and how I didn't really make an
- 16:19impact, they kind of I've got hurt and they stopped.
- 16:23They had to step away from the project and then they ended up
- 16:26coming back to and finishing the first draft by 2009.
- 16:30But it's funny though because at this time they were shopping
- 16:32things around to try and get something else.
- 16:34Going one of their friends suggested to them that they
- 16:37should take it to a place like the mention pitch it as a remake
- 16:41to show that they have that fan base have the following.
- 16:45They've got a proof of concept, they're like you should just
- 16:47take somebody like Ethan Hawke and cast him as Leslie Vernon
- 16:50and then Do it that way and they said that that could potentially
- 16:54happen just so you know, rejuvenate interest in the whole
- 16:58thing but it's not really what they're wanting to do.
- 17:01They're wanting to get the band back together to see but it's
- 17:03AI, Nathan basil, basil, basil basil.
- 17:09He's got such a charm as Leslie Vernon.
- 17:12He's perfect as well as we honestly and I checked his IMDb.
- 17:15He's not done a whole lot. Since this movie, it's been a
- 17:19few parts and TV series and That's pretty much it.
- 17:22Which is kind of crazy to me, man.
- 17:24Now, I would love to see more more of this, as a like, turn it
- 17:29into a franchise. Yeah, for sure.
- 17:32Even just a duology, if they can't get a whole trilogy.
- 17:35So I've got some stuff here. First off, I'm going to talk
- 17:38about the original ending to the movie.
- 17:41The movie was originally going to end with them, all being at
- 17:44the courtroom. They are all being, I guess like
- 17:47was being tried for this stuff or whatever and it's townspeople
- 17:51You justice. They're upset.
- 17:53And Doc, Halloran comes to their defense, so like the legend
- 17:57becomes reality. Yeah, that's cool.
- 18:00That's cool. Yeah, but what, okay, so this is
- 18:04a, what could have been, what would have been time segment
- 18:07here. So I've got a lot of information
- 18:09on what the sequel was going to. Because it kind of went all out
- 18:12with us and they weren't able to make it.
- 18:14They did do a Kickstarter, they had a goal of 500 thousand
- 18:18dollars. They got a couple hundred
- 18:20thousand but Ultimately couldn't get it funded so they had to
- 18:22cancel it. They realize that they made a
- 18:25mistake by going with Kickstarter because apparently
- 18:27with Kickstarter you don't get that money until you hit your
- 18:30goal. If they went with something like
- 18:32Indiegogo, you get that money as you're going and he said well if
- 18:37it would have been, that could have taken that money, taking
- 18:40them to an investor, got additional money.
- 18:43Just to show that there's Financial interests there and
- 18:45then make something take that to another investor and then they
- 18:48could have made something but that's not what happened, we
- 18:51I've went too far with that already.
- 18:53Okay. So the first thing that they
- 18:55pitch, they pitched this in TV. It was going to be a series.
- 19:00This isn't 2009. Taylor would be running a goal,
- 19:03a school for final girls. Okay, so what she would be doing
- 19:07is it's basically her doing To Catch a Predator because I was a
- 19:13thing that was going on at the time and just doing that to stop
- 19:16would be slasher, villains, that would be happening, okay, which
- 19:20I think is Is a kind of an interesting concept.
- 19:22Honestly. Yeah but I don't think that went
- 19:25very far. I think that's where it stopped.
- 19:27They ended up after that finishing the first draft of the
- 19:30sequel in 2009. It was going to be what they
- 19:32dubbed, Esprit make which means sequel prequel and remake all in
- 19:38one. So it's going to touch on his
- 19:40pass is origin reveal. Some of the things that we
- 19:44thought we knew but don't really know for sure.
- 19:47Okay, um also during this, they going to be making a film.
- 19:51Based off of the first movie like there's going to be moments
- 19:54where like these characters from the first movie they meet their
- 19:58on-screen counterparts. Like scream, 383?
- 20:01Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:01And then they're just making the movie and then Leslie is also
- 20:05there. And he's critiquing them because
- 20:07he's not accurate or like what they're doing stun accurate and
- 20:11it's not realistic or whatever which I think is funny as like
- 20:14commentary for the audience for that type of thing.
- 20:16Yeah. But there's going to be like a
- 20:18love story between him and Taylor.
- 20:21Our people on the set are mysteriously dying or somebody
- 20:26dressed like Leslie, that's talking around, but you can
- 20:30actually get part of this story in a comic book that they
- 20:34released as a sequel. Oh fun.
- 20:36So it's called behind know before the mask, the return of
- 20:40Leslie Vernon. That's confusing.
- 20:43Yeah. It's a comic book.
- 20:44They took all that they could. And they adapted.
- 20:48What they thought was easily what?
- 20:50They Adapting to a comic book and then everything else is kind
- 20:53of Forgotten but you get the core of the story with it.
- 20:57So that is an option. If you guys want to continue
- 20:59with this but they said that there's still a chance for them
- 21:02to go on the original script for that was originally going to be
- 21:07more focused on like the torture porn aspect of things because
- 21:11that was really a thing at that time and he feels right now, if
- 21:15he's going to do it, you have to redo the whole thing because
- 21:17it's so dated. Yeah, the current trend of how
- 21:20like, Or has evolved over the past two decades.
- 21:24Yeah, so if they're good, redo it again, they're going to try
- 21:27and get something that's closer to today but they haven't.
- 21:30But there's still hope they talked to shudder and something
- 21:34fell through with that shutter when and make adjustments to
- 21:37things. But yeah, there's still a
- 21:40possibility to get more was we Vernon?
- 21:42But this is what we got for now, and that's all I got.
- 21:47I'm sorry. That's all that was a lie.
- 21:49I know that. That was a lot of stuff, but I
- 21:51That was all pretty interesting especially yeah.
- 21:53If people are into this movie and want more, there is more out
- 21:58there cool. Yeah.
- 22:01Okay. So what that all out of the way?
- 22:04Jessie, since this was my pick, what's your good bad, ugly
- 22:07absurd, and your rating. Okay, I love this movie.
- 22:13I think it's so much fun. I obviously I'm a big fan of
- 22:18metal horror type stuff and This is one of those that it does
- 22:23found footage in a way that makes a lot of sense.
- 22:26And I love the way that it goes between found footage and like
- 22:29the actual movie, especially because they're talking about it
- 22:32like he's, you know, making his movie.
- 22:35Yes. And then I also like the fourth
- 22:38wall, kind of breaking where, like they'd be detailing, how
- 22:42the night's gonna go down and then he'll be like, wait, what
- 22:44are we forgetting? And then, yeah, rewind, yeah,
- 22:47yeah, so I really like all of that.
- 22:52The bad. I really don't have a lot of bad
- 22:56honestly. Maybe a little bit more build up
- 23:01to trick us like to make the like oh Taylor's actually the
- 23:05final girl make that a little bit more like yeah just a couple
- 23:11more breadcrumbs here and therefore that I think that is a
- 23:14good surprise it is it is. But when you're like watching it
- 23:18and you know it's coming you're like oh well yeah.
- 23:21Yeah, it really would have been kind of hard to pick that up the
- 23:23first time. Yeah.
- 23:24So you're saying that like you wish that there were more clues
- 23:27to it. I think that there are and I'll
- 23:29Point some of the stuff out as we're talking about because I
- 23:31was making notes of some of these exchanges.
- 23:34Yeah, the ugly. I mean, obviously there's a lot
- 23:40of look ugly and horror movie tropes that especially like is
- 23:46centered around a woman's value based on her sexuality or
- 23:53virginity. Yeah.
- 23:55That's always going to be kind of an ugly and then the Absurd I
- 24:01wish he'd still explained like how you get the bodies to fall
- 24:06over on people. Oh yeah.
- 24:09Like the one Trope that he doesn't have some kind of an
- 24:11explanation for like he even, you know, kind of like a what is
- 24:16a deep freezes. The whole like, won't they just
- 24:19jump out of the second floor window and he goes, you know,
- 24:22you'd think so. Like he just went to just bust
- 24:24these out. You do you think so?
- 24:26They don't they do it on the second floor though.
- 24:28Yeah. So like We've got that moment,
- 24:32but we never even get a hint of how you get those bodies to be
- 24:35propped up right behind the door.
- 24:37Yeah. All that said, I think it's just
- 24:40such a fun movie. It's a good time.
- 24:42It's a good blend of horror and comedy and it's clearly done by
- 24:46people who love the genre. I'm giving it a name, .25 9.25,
- 24:51cool. This movie is a fun way to do a
- 24:56commentary on the genre because I don't really I think that
- 25:01mockumentaries I think that they were just picking up steam
- 25:04around the sun because like this is wiz office, came out around
- 25:07this time. It was this Poughkeepsie tapes
- 25:11is right around the corner, you really like the stoked on that
- 25:16word keeps. He tapes the Pug.
- 25:19Epsy tapes were coming out, not too long from now.
- 25:23So it's, I think it's still new enough for it to be fresh
- 25:28because I think if you watch it today that That is a troponin.
- 25:32So if that's kind of played out at this point, but they did it
- 25:34early enough to where I don't think that it's a problem.
- 25:38Yeah, I think if they did it today they would have to go with
- 25:41that original idea of like the courtroom thing and then make it
- 25:44a true crime, documentary mock, that would be.
- 25:46Yeah, that would definitely be a where they do like a Netflix
- 25:49documentary Series. Yeah.
- 25:52It would be something like that. Would be really fun for them to
- 25:54do it. Like totally straight dude.
- 25:57Yeah, if they get like a deal with just whatever streaming.
- 26:01This and they build it up. As it's real thing that's like
- 26:04going back to Blair Witch type stuff right there where you're
- 26:06typing it up to be a real thing. And people watching this just
- 26:09like this dramatic movie of Leslie Vernon, that would be so
- 26:14fucking cool. And then they would be, I like
- 26:17even better if people that like knew about it.
- 26:20And I knew that it was a sequel to Leslie Vernon.
- 26:22We'll just play it real with other people too.
- 26:25Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:26Because it's like a secret everything's real with that.
- 26:28Really like, yeah, I remember when These murders first
- 26:31happens. Yeah, exactly.
- 26:33Yeah, 2007 okay. So yeah that's all good.
- 26:38I think that it's just like a good commentary.
- 26:40Honestly it it doesn't feel like tread on Old ground, you know
- 26:47what I mean? Like screen doesn't away, but
- 26:49they don't like spell it out. Like they are in this movie.
- 26:52Like I think in this movie it's more fun to spell out the tropes
- 26:55and point out the ridiculous things in it.
- 26:58Yeah, they're both doing the same thing but in completely
- 27:01Different way. Yeah, exactly.
- 27:02Doesn't scream. They're making a movie of the
- 27:05tropes and this is a movie about the trophy.
- 27:09You're interviewing an expert about it?
- 27:12Yeah. Getting Insight from like the
- 27:14killer from one of those movies which is cool.
- 27:18I think I'll agree with you. That there's not really a whole
- 27:21lot bad with this movie. I do think that the second half
- 27:24whenever he goes full movie it does.
- 27:27I think this movie works better as a mockumentary and wherever
- 27:30Chance to fulfill. My don't really think it's a
- 27:32strong but I do still feel like it's a good movie and it doesn't
- 27:36take away any of the enjoyment. Yeah, still fun.
- 27:38I like it. The ugly I guess, kind of like
- 27:47what you said. I mean there's really not a
- 27:49whole ugly about this movie other than like just those
- 27:53things, those tropes stereotypes, things like that
- 27:56regarding, you know, your virginity and stuff like that.
- 28:01Mostly tied, the women actually entirely tied the women.
- 28:04Don't think it doesn't matter anything about men in this movie
- 28:07at all, but I mean unfortunately that was kind of a thing of that
- 28:10era. So there's just making
- 28:12commentary on it so I don't fault this movie for that.
- 28:14Exactly. Yeah, I'm not blaming the media
- 28:17Trope existing. Yeah and the Absurd I think it's
- 28:22fucking absurd that just the whole getting Insight on how
- 28:27these killers are preparing themselves for these things.
- 28:30Like whenever we cut to Eugene and I know where's Eugene is
- 28:33like, oh isn't the tank out back.
- 28:35He's been there for two days and he's just buried underneath the
- 28:38ground. Just learning how to be a dead
- 28:40body. Yeah, it's just so fucking
- 28:42funny. I was so much.
- 28:45I think I'm going to give this thing a 9.5.
- 28:47This movie is just so much fun. I love it so much.
- 28:50Wish we could have been there for whenever it came out.
- 28:53Originally to give the support then, but I think with a movie
- 28:58like this, where you have a growing cult following and And
- 29:01all of the support that's coming up.
- 29:03I think that that does bode well for a potential future for this
- 29:08thing, but I guess we'll see ya. So we have a starting average of
- 29:12nine point, three seven five, thank you feels accurate.
- 29:16Very, very high. I agree.
- 29:19All right. All right, you ready?
- 29:21Yo, okay. So it's movie starts off in the
- 29:26movie portion, we're not in the mockumentary part yet, so it's
- 29:30somebody's stalking. A waitress that's going outside
- 29:34at the back of the diner that she works at.
- 29:36She's taking out the trash. She feels uneasy she runs off
- 29:39the door slams behind her and somebody's just stalking her.
- 29:43That's it. Then it cuts to a new story
- 29:47opening on Glen Echo, which isn't really a new story.
- 29:50It's just Taylor and her Every crew.
- 29:53Yeah. So opening of her documentary.
- 29:55Yeah, she starts referencing slashers.
- 30:02Jason Frederick, she interviews, Kane Hodder, who is living in
- 30:10house number 1428. Yes, which is awesome.
- 30:13Yeah, on Elm Street Lane. Yeah, and then she mentions
- 30:17Michael. So, there's a lot of shout outs
- 30:19in, like, 30 seconds. That's another cool thing about
- 30:22this movie that I forgot to mention.
- 30:23It's in a universe where all of these slasher villains were like
- 30:28real, so they all coexist in the same universe, would you?
- 30:32Think about it they exist which means they're not like actual
- 30:37actors. Yeah exactly like that was Jason
- 30:40right there. Walking in the Freddy's house
- 30:43you know you can't really think too hard about it.
- 30:45Yeah so 20 years ago, this boy was taken over by evil and he
- 30:53ends up being thrown over the waterfall by town and
- 30:55retribution after Murr going on a killing spree.
- 31:00And he swore vengeance. Since then we catch a Leslie's
- 31:04house, he's not answering the door, but he ends up popping up
- 31:08and spooking him. He's got Turtles.
- 31:13Yes, their names are church and Zoe.
- 31:16This is a reference by the way, those changes to pet cemetery.
- 31:20They're both pet cemetery. Apparently, he's always awesome.
- 31:23Yeah, we each character, Zoe is think the kids.
- 31:28Right? The cats, the cats.
- 31:31We're Zoe might be one of the kids I think Zoe is the old
- 31:38man's wife, maybe you think so. I don't remember exactly church
- 31:42was definitely the cat though. It's been a long time since I've
- 31:44watched that movie. I so I don't really remember
- 31:46either. Yeah, so they're interviewing
- 31:50Leslie and they're at has asked and he's got this whole library
- 31:55of textbooks where they just go over all of these tricks about
- 31:59how to become a dishwasher. He's got like Houdini books on
- 32:02how to escape slide of hand. Tricks Grey's Anatomy Grey's
- 32:06Anatomy. Yeah, so it's kind of funny just
- 32:09to see all of the inside that goes into this.
- 32:11Put a lot of work. Yeah, he's not half-assing this
- 32:15thing. I wrote Leslie has this little
- 32:21patch won't give away everything to Taylor.
- 32:25She doesn't understand why. I don't know.
- 32:30I really thought that I was going to remember what these
- 32:32notes meant. Well, maybe two days ago, we
- 32:35watched this movie pretty tipsy. Yeah.
- 32:38So, you know, maybe that was just a little bit of Jesse
- 32:41having fun with her notes. Yeah.
- 32:43Absolutely yeah, yeah. And she does ask for more
- 32:48information regarding his plans or his books or like all how he
- 32:52does certain tricks as a Swagger and he doesn't want to reveal
- 32:55anything because you know magician don't ya.
- 32:57These guys are basically magicians so he's Got like a
- 33:01family house. It's in a trust in his name but
- 33:04obviously, he can't claim it. Yeah, because he's supposed to
- 33:08be dead. Yeah.
- 33:09Yeah, so the local kids stay there every year on the
- 33:11anniversary of murders. Yeah, it's like a day or type
- 33:15thing which we'd step. Number one of being a slasher
- 33:19villain. Need to have an anchor for your
- 33:22Legend. Yep.
- 33:23So the house the anniversary of the deaths.
- 33:26His sworn Vengeance. So now we've got like The lore
- 33:30surrounding Leslie, Vernon. Yeah, explains the importance of
- 33:33cardio because you have to get really, really fast to be a /
- 33:37Revenge. He's like you gotta keep up with
- 33:38all these kids and you can't look like it's stressing you out
- 33:42at all. You got to keep up with them
- 33:44running out of walking. Yeah.
- 33:45Why you're walking? Yeah.
- 33:47Yeah, I like that. Then we go into step.
- 33:51Number two, got to find a Target Group, which would be the
- 33:54victims that he swags. Yeah, he said it's harder than
- 33:58you would think of it as you can't.
- 33:59Pick any random group you've got to have a good Supporting Cast
- 34:02because it's got to be a mixture of people.
- 34:04You don't want all Jaques because then it's you have too
- 34:09much testosterone and you're not going to have as much splitting
- 34:12up. So you need some jocks is that
- 34:15way they can get horny with their girlfriends, but you also
- 34:18need some Stoners. That can be like strung out in
- 34:21the living room pad, the numbers.
- 34:22This is how he puts it. Yeah.
- 34:23So like they're parked outside of college campus and they're
- 34:26just looking at all these groups of college kids.
- 34:30And then he makes eye contact with this one random girl,
- 34:33whenever he's describing the final girl or the Survivor girl
- 34:36Lester called in this universe. Yeah, it feels very Spirit
- 34:40Halloween. Yeah, definitely.
- 34:42But like they make eye contact and he's like, did you feel that
- 34:45she for the connection with since each other?
- 34:49So he's getting The Farmhouse ready.
- 34:53It's got to get all the details. Just right.
- 34:57What the fuck? Does this note say?
- 35:00Kelly Curtis is. Survivor girl.
- 35:05Yes, because it cuts to them at the diner and this is at the
- 35:09opening of the movie that we watched at first where the girl
- 35:12is going out back to take out the trash.
- 35:14Yeah, this is step 3. Yes, the flyby.
- 35:17Yeah flybys. So basically, he's the stalker
- 35:21there. He has this little trick.
- 35:23This little Stone that's like rigged with a wire.
- 35:26It's called a Brick by Brick. Okay.
- 35:28I remember to Stone. So that's what gives a stone of
- 35:32sorts. Why are you?
- 35:35Why why are you correcting me? Then I'm just trying to get all
- 35:40the details out there. Okay?
- 35:42So that I think is propping open the door.
- 35:46It's tied with a little string, fishing wire.
- 35:49Yeah. So you can't see it.
- 35:51And then whenever she goes out there to prop it open because
- 35:53he's observed her behavior. He knows how she goes about the
- 35:58whole routine here. So he knows how the fuck with
- 36:00their exactly. So then it cuts back to a movie
- 36:03but it's like a Fast forward version of it, where he has
- 36:06tailored take the string to be like assistance, she's there.
- 36:09And he sends over to the side. That way she can get a glimpse
- 36:12of him, but not really sure they stay there, but she knows that
- 36:17he's there's something out there and she's on easy.
- 36:21Yeah. After they have a successful
- 36:23flyby, he fist bumps the cameramen and hugs Taylor.
- 36:27Yeah. Which is a very Uncomfortably
- 36:32real kind of thing. We're just like fist bumping
- 36:35into dudes and then a hug for the girl.
- 36:37Yeah, yeah. It was always kind of
- 36:39problematic. I mean, he's so fucking serial
- 36:41killer. You know what I mean?
- 36:43Yeah. Oh visiting his best friend's
- 36:46Eugene. And Jamie.
- 36:48Mhm. Eugene has in the tank as you
- 36:50talked about before. Yeah.
- 36:51They pull up into the house and Raskin Jamie.
- 36:54And she said, yeah, yeah, he's on the back.
- 36:56I've been back there about two days, so they go back there.
- 36:59Leslie takes the shovel and dig some up himself.
- 37:01Is in the sensory deprivation tank and basically, they have to
- 37:06wake him up because he's learning how to play dead.
- 37:10Yeah. Just so I get all of your levels
- 37:13to the minimum amount that way, you're barely breathing, and
- 37:15your blood and everything is going at the minimum and you're
- 37:18able to sit as still as possible.
- 37:20Yeah. Exactly.
- 37:22He shares a history about slashers and how it used to be
- 37:27just like purely quantity and then one hit one.
- 37:31You're sort of making a mess of things and then and it kind of
- 37:35cheapens it. But then J Fred Mike mid and
- 37:41made themselves into legendary status.
- 37:43They made it. All right of it by returning.
- 37:47He said they really started the whole franchise thing.
- 37:51Yeah, definitely. He said it's about fear, not
- 37:56about killing. He said you have to have evil.
- 37:59Yeah, he's active in the Season 70s to.
- 38:02So like right before the big boom of the 80s.
- 38:06It's funny that they're interviewing his wife also
- 38:08Jamie, who was his final girl. And one of the movies which I
- 38:12think is so weird. How how does that even happen?
- 38:16So she beats him. That is a prequel.
- 38:20I want to see. I want to see how that
- 38:22developed. How do you go from like
- 38:24somebody's chasing you to killing you 20, I can actually
- 38:28love this person. I'm going to start a family with
- 38:31them. Stockholm syndrome, I suppose
- 38:34it's true. Yeah.
- 38:36Okay. So he has forged an article that
- 38:42I need to get to Kelly and Leslie's Telling You Dean about
- 38:48this and he's like, all right, we need to figure out what your
- 38:54next move is. You know, I was like, maybe I'll
- 38:57kill one of her friends because no, no, it's too soon to do a
- 38:59friend, but, you know, maybe, Somebody else, you trust may be
- 39:02a librarian. So he's going to place this
- 39:06article somewhere in the library where she'll see it and then
- 39:09he'll be able to attack the library and there to which the
- 39:12librarian is the red herring as they describe.
- 39:16This is what he does. He basically constructs this
- 39:18whole fake news article about the origin of him and like
- 39:23forging up this relationship like a kinship between him and
- 39:29what was her name Kelly. Kelly.
- 39:32Yeah, so according to this article Kelly's.
- 39:34Great-uncle I salted Leslie's mom, which resulted in Her
- 39:40pregnancy with Leslie and there's like CGI in the article
- 39:46and it's just Kelly turn. Yes.
- 39:49Or an older man is facing. Yeah, I just faked it knowing
- 39:51how the fuck did you find? This is yeah.
- 39:53I mean we all know Photoshop. Yeah.
- 39:58So the crew is starting to get a little bit uncomfortable with
- 40:02this so he's like you can stay or you can go but you know, you
- 40:06can't interfere either way. So they offer to stay.
- 40:10And he says that the set the success or failure of all of
- 40:14this depends on her, which is, like a very meaningful moment
- 40:19once you've seen the movie and, you know, the twist that's
- 40:21coming. Yeah, exactly.
- 40:23There's a lot of those things right there.
- 40:25I think that's one of the things that you could maybe kind of
- 40:27pick up on so cuts to them at the library.
- 40:30It's gonna go in like back and forth between movie and
- 40:34documentary here. But I showing Kelly she's out
- 40:38there doing research. Search was we has the film roll.
- 40:42It's like the digital things that you can microfiche
- 40:44microfiche. So what he does is he leaves the
- 40:47start of the article knowing that they keep microfiche of the
- 40:50old newspapers downstairs and that the library would have to
- 40:53get it for her. So this is, you know, like a
- 40:56very elaborate setup to do to accomplish multiple points of
- 41:00this. That's the thing about this
- 41:02movie is a lot of it hinges, so much on chance.
- 41:05Yeah, but yeah, which is kind of nice because You know, a lot of
- 41:10times when you watch these movies, you're like, oh well,
- 41:12how convenient is it that they found this article right here?
- 41:14And according to them it's not like it's such a hard word to be
- 41:19able to do everything and make it match up perfectly.
- 41:21It's so crazy. Yeah.
- 41:23So basically she finds the article asks the librarian
- 41:27played by Zelda. I don't know her name.
- 41:30Last name. She she's in Pet.
- 41:34Sematary. Yeah well known character
- 41:35actress. She this is her last movie by
- 41:38the way. She gets her, she gets Kelly set
- 41:42up with the microfiche and she starts telling about I can,
- 41:46every time I say microstation, she gets set up, and then she
- 41:53starts talking about Leslie Vernon to.
- 41:56So she also knows the legend. Yeah.
- 41:58And this is like, wow! They're all doing this.
- 42:00This is also when the group is hiding behind the shelves.
- 42:04Like, that's where it was. We pops back real quick and then
- 42:09I guess he's like giving them the rundown on things and he
- 42:11just like ways against the back of the books shelf and it's like
- 42:14paradise was and it's just like a Paradise Lost copyright behind
- 42:19them. It's one of the dumbest fucking
- 42:21things ever, but I swear to God, that thing landed with me so
- 42:24hard. I can't, I can't not remember
- 42:27that. It's one of the most memorable
- 42:28parts of this movie. Yeah, she elaborates on the
- 42:31legend. We heard before.
- 42:33As a child, he was forced to till the land by hand on the
- 42:36Family Farm, which is why he has a little Health side thing.
- 42:40And when he eventually gets mob mentality by Glen Echo and is
- 42:47thrown over the waterfall. The turtles, picked his bones
- 42:50clean. So then that's when Leslie pops
- 42:55up kills the librarian but oh wait.
- 42:58Oh wait, hmm, we have a Robert Englund.
- 43:02We have a Robert Englund in a trench coat and a trench coat
- 43:07with that. They gone.
- 43:08One and a gun and a slicked-back hair.
- 43:11Do. Yes, we got us a Robert Englund.
- 43:15Cosplaying as illumise. Yes.
- 43:17And he takes a gun. He fires it was we who manages
- 43:21to escape and I think he does get hit or something like that.
- 43:25But he manages to get away. And then they, the crew all run
- 43:29outside and run to the van. They're celebrating because he
- 43:31got a day hab. Yeah.
- 43:33Basically they have is this person that will stop No matter
- 43:39what to try and like prevent evil, it's like Captain his name
- 43:46in Moby Dick who is like obsessed with finding the white
- 43:49whale doc Halloran. Is also a reference that is duck
- 43:55from Cal. Yeah, from The Shining.
- 43:58Okay. Yeah, so he talks about doc
- 44:02Halloran. Was the psychiatrist that
- 44:04visited him when he was little and he predicted that he would
- 44:07come back. So here, Really is a fucking
- 44:09Loomis tendon. America.
- 44:11It was revealed, by the way, in the sequel.
- 44:15That would have been made. That he would have been part of
- 44:20the mob crew, that would have thrown him over the river.
- 44:25Yeah. Well, that sounds perfectly in
- 44:26keeping with the Loomis. Hmm, definitely mentality.
- 44:30Yeah. So we see Taylor and her crew,
- 44:36and they enter the diner, and Dachau Aaron's there and he
- 44:39approaches and questions her and tells her that she's actually
- 44:44working with a man named Leslie Mancuso from Reno Nevada.
- 44:49Yeah, which this is interesting that you get this little bit of
- 44:52info right here that he's been lying to the new screw about
- 44:55himself. But it also makes you think
- 44:58since Taylor was his actual real Survivor girl is this another
- 45:03piece of the legend he was building up for her to have to,
- 45:06like unravel the mystery? Absolutely.
- 45:08So Acted by this but she's not paying you to see.
- 45:11And what had happened here is he had forbidden them from going to
- 45:15the diner and interacting with Kelly at all and then naturally
- 45:19as a documentary crew, they want to go there and get all the
- 45:22information they can and so much of the success or failure of his
- 45:26quest depends on her and during this whole time Kelly or Kelsey
- 45:33I can remember she really Kelly, she's distracted the entire time
- 45:37that she's taking their order. Doc Halloran notices.
- 45:40Yeah. And does his whole thing but
- 45:43Leslie's been observing this entire time.
- 45:45Yeah, he is waiting for them at the van.
- 45:47He is mad. He hands her up.
- 45:51Yeah, van forcibly. She wants to explain why.
- 45:58You know she talked about his backstory is fake and he says,
- 46:02who cares? If who cares if it's fake, the
- 46:04tears real? Yeah basically.
- 46:08So So they're back at The Farmhouse there.
- 46:12He says that the key is to limit the time inside because there's
- 46:15less Mobility. There's a certain code of
- 46:17ethics. Like the closet closet is safe
- 46:20because there's like, the womb imagery of it.
- 46:24Rule number one, nobody gets away.
- 46:27Yes. So it starts with the bedroom
- 46:30and eventually he needs to whittle it down to just him and
- 46:33Kelly. As soon as possible the lights
- 46:36are rigged. You guys got like dead
- 46:38batteries. All the flashlights.
- 46:40No, spare batteries, anywhere and the seller, he's gonna
- 46:44attack and start a panic. He'll hide some corpses in the
- 46:49shed and in the shed he's going to it's again it's a safe haven
- 46:54but he is still going to like rig some weapons so that way
- 46:57they don't last very long. Yeah, they basically have one
- 47:00use so if you get one good look and then they will fall apart.
- 47:04Yeah. But he needs her to go in the
- 47:07shed in the first place because Because her entering it is a
- 47:10sign of empowerment where she goes from the victim to the
- 47:12heroin, because she's going to get a weapon.
- 47:15I think it's hilarious. How he's like, she's empowering
- 47:18herself with cock. Yes.
- 47:20Because she's going to eventually take his weapon from
- 47:23him which is taking his manhood. Yes, which again this whole
- 47:27that's the ugly of the movie is the the misogyny and the toxic
- 47:31masculinity now and it's so funny the whole time.
- 47:34He's like he's also doing farm work.
- 47:36So he's got apples and this little like Squisher like
- 47:39juicer. Yeah.
- 47:40And cider press. Yeah, thank you.
- 47:44And she's like okay, phrase apples Pusher juicer.
- 47:47So she's like, okay. So what's going to happen?
- 47:49What's this machine going to do today?
- 47:51He's like, well, I don't know. It's going to make some juice
- 47:56like it's funny, but I like the whole plan is for him to be
- 47:59pinned in there and she's going to use that on him to crush him.
- 48:02So yeah, the whole I think it's awesome that he's describing
- 48:07what she's going to do to her. Her.
- 48:09And like that adds like a whole other layer of fucking with her.
- 48:13Yeah, so there's four exits on the first floor and 829 on the
- 48:18second floor. They're all sealed shut.
- 48:20And this is where they're like, well, they just bust him open
- 48:23and he said, you think so? Yeah.
- 48:28Says oh I'm he is at a disadvantage so he has because
- 48:34it's just him versus all these kids.
- 48:36So that's why he does all this preparation to try and you know
- 48:39help things go his way more. He's still incredibly
- 48:42outnumbered. He does disable their car.
- 48:46They're going to go to the barn. Once they realize that there's
- 48:49going to be more bodies in there that will distract them.
- 48:51Then dr. Halloran will pop up for the
- 48:54good versus evil. This Taylor remember is this
- 48:57part way through She's like, okay, well, they'll crawl
- 49:00through and then it goes, you're forgetting something.
- 49:03So yeah, dr. Holland shows up for good versus
- 49:05evil and then Kelly will go through to the orchard.
- 49:09Representing her birth. It's a Yannick symbol is a
- 49:15psychological, and physical passage.
- 49:17So, All right. So they take this, they took the
- 49:21footage from the confrontation at the library and they're
- 49:25showing it to you G and then Jamie they're asking the
- 49:27experts. How does one survive he's
- 49:30asking? I think they're asking Jamie
- 49:32because she's the final girl. So she's like okay.
- 49:35So as a final girl how do you survive never hang out with
- 49:38virgins and run? Like hell yep and yeah that's
- 49:43pretty much it. I wish that they could have
- 49:47tapped into more of that. That with her because we get all
- 49:50of the killer stuff. I think it's interesting to
- 49:52bring in the perspective of the final girl in this scenario,
- 49:55two. Okay?
- 49:57We see Leslie. Getting ready.
- 49:59He is painting his face with a mixture of Preparation, H and
- 50:04fire retardant. Yeah, something like constrict
- 50:08the blood vessels. That way if you're bleeding, it
- 50:10doesn't bleed too badly. Yeah, and he's just he's talking
- 50:14about the Paradox of this, is that his fate completely depends
- 50:18on her. And then he's so happy.
- 50:20He starts to cry, so he's going to take the remaining time.
- 50:25He has before the kids arrive and he's going to take one last
- 50:27look around. There are eight kids on their
- 50:33way in Kelly's. Not drinking.
- 50:36I can't read my own handwriting, dude.
- 50:40Spark plugs. The spark plugs are out of the
- 50:42car. Okay, so they kill the first
- 50:47horny couple and this is where R Taylor gets upset.
- 50:50Yeah because they're all hiding in the closet.
- 50:53Why is it? Yeah.
- 50:54Yeah. It's just a curtain separating
- 50:56them. But you know what?
- 50:57I think it's kind of interesting seeing how he like quickly.
- 50:59He goes in there. I'll get it.
- 51:01You can tell when it's showtime for him and then he just slides
- 51:04the mask on and just goes out there and kills him super fast
- 51:08and comes right back which I love that.
- 51:09He's got the size because something about like flipping a
- 51:12side then your hand is super cool and yeah eating but it's
- 51:15also really cool seeing the behind-the-scenes of how us
- 51:18washer. Villain Woodman.
- 51:20I can maneuver around the house like that.
- 51:23Yeah. So you get that.
- 51:24And then after they see them like, he's like, oh shit,
- 51:28they're actually killing these people and creaky, he knew he
- 51:32knew that they were kind of iffy.
- 51:35And as soon as he sees their faces, he pulls them out, he
- 51:37says, you guys can't be here at you.
- 51:39Got to go. You are going to, you know, ruin
- 51:41all of this. Yeah.
- 51:42So he pushes them back to the van and tells them to go.
- 51:47This is cool. This is when they The camera
- 51:49crews are okay. We got to go in there and save
- 51:52all these people. We know exactly what is going to
- 51:53be doing. So we got to go in there and
- 51:55stop this thing now and then they take the cameras, I put him
- 51:58in the van and then this is when we actually see the cameraman
- 52:02for the first time. Yeah and Todd is for sure.
- 52:07Kenny from the first grade he is just exactly as him and has like
- 52:11a similar. Look, he's a larger dude with a
- 52:13backwards cap. Yeah, he's definitely exactly
- 52:16like him. So they all go into the house
- 52:21and things aren't exactly going as planned right away.
- 52:25Shelly is not a virgin. That's what she went, right?
- 52:29Oh, she went upstairs with what's-his-face so they go up
- 52:32there and she's up there having sex with them.
- 52:35Like this is not virgins that no, it is not, that's not that
- 52:38is not her first time. No.
- 52:39So this those them all off. Yeah.
- 52:42However the thing about the two like the couple going to the
- 52:46basement that didn't hang out and the I did still get killed
- 52:50down there, which sent his girlfriend running upstairs and
- 52:52starting the Panic just like Leslie said would happen.
- 52:54Yeah. So Kelly doesn't believe that
- 52:58she is the Survivor girl and Taylor decides that she's going
- 53:03to show bulbs and scape out of house.
- 53:09Early bodies, moved. Wait wait, I can't read my
- 53:13handwriting. Okay, I think the essence of
- 53:17this is that since she knows the steps.
- 53:18Jep she's like all right. Cool.
- 53:20We're going to skip all of the other stuff.
- 53:22He had set up and we're just going to go ahead and we're
- 53:24going to go out to our van because we know that your all's
- 53:27vehicle has been fucked with except also been fucked with.
- 53:32Yeah start and that's when they realized that Leslie knows.
- 53:36So two of the stone our kids have gone out to the toolshed
- 53:38they're both killed so they run back to Kelly.
- 53:41All the tires have been slashed on all the vehicles.
- 53:47Yeah, everything's been sabotaged.
- 53:48There's just bodies everywhere, they're running around the van
- 53:51won't start. They go to the barn.
- 53:53Mhm. This is when Taylor realizes
- 53:58that she is the target all along because we're still going over.
- 54:03Like I'm not a virgin. Kelsey is basically Raquel.
- 54:06He's basically saying that and that's when Taylor, he realizes.
- 54:09Oh my God, it's been me this entire time and everybody's
- 54:12shocked that she's a virgin doc Hallie.
- 54:15In arrives because they remember that that was coming up soon
- 54:19Leslie's in the barn. Now he's also picking off the
- 54:22kids one by one. Yeah.
- 54:25He is chasing them and at one point he kills tired and I just
- 54:29wrote in my notes. It's done for Todd, man.
- 54:33I'm done Todd. So Taylor says it really doesn't
- 54:40matter what she does, because he picked her a long time ago.
- 54:44Yeah. So he's In like five steps ahead
- 54:46of them this entire time, no matter.
- 54:48He knows that they know so he's been doing his own thing.
- 54:51Yeah, he's in their heads, they're all mostly dead or have
- 54:56been attacked at this point. I wish I knew what was going on
- 55:01in my head and I wrote these notes, I wrote Leslie gets two
- 55:05kids, both and Duncan Doug. You did that because of the
- 55:11Texas Chainsaw Massacre thing. Oh, I don't remember what
- 55:16happened. I think.
- 55:17Maybe somebody fell out of a window or something.
- 55:19That does happen at some point because they try and jump out of
- 55:21the Second Story window, like, they like you predicted.
- 55:25That's right. That's right.
- 55:26Yeah. He had clipped some of the
- 55:27branches. So she tried to grab the branch
- 55:29being snapped and she fell to her death.
- 55:31Yeah. Okay.
- 55:33Okay. So yeah.
- 55:35Everything is going down basically, exactly as predicted,
- 55:37even though Taylor was the Survivor girl the whole time.
- 55:41So she's having to adjust now. She's so ends up doing it.
- 55:45Exactly what he says, she goes and gets an Ax from the shed and
- 55:47heads to the orchard. Exactly, they fight he
- 55:51disappears. She's searching around for him.
- 55:54Back in the shed, Taylor's attacked and then the orchard is
- 56:00set on fire after they've fought some more.
- 56:03Yeah. And it's like a whole scuffle
- 56:06they end up in a room with the juicer and as you predicted his
- 56:10head good swatched in there and she takes the machine and
- 56:14killed. Him in quotations.
- 56:17Yeah. And yeah.
- 56:18Everything's on fire, she walks off and then dug one of the crew
- 56:23members and Doc Halloran are so alive.
- 56:25So alive, so they they walk off and yeah.
- 56:30So during the credits, it's goes to security footage of a morgue
- 56:37and the more mortician Psycho Killer plays A Psycho Killer
- 56:41plays is doing his thing, which is very on the nose, but I'm so
- 56:44excited. Got it.
- 56:45No I'm not either but this is basically like the ending of
- 56:47Halloween resurrection and terrified like the he unzips the
- 56:50bag and he's still alive and heels.
- 56:55So yeah that's the end of the movie.
- 56:59Yay. Okay after talking about it do
- 57:00you feel any differently now? I still think it's great.
- 57:05I might bump it up to a 9.5 actually, because of the whole
- 57:08like story within a story Legend within a legend, he was really
- 57:12thinking he is playing chess and she was Playing checkers.
- 57:16Absolutely. I'm keeping my 99.5.
- 57:19But yeah, I think that this movie is really awesome.
- 57:23It's just, it's a fun way to point out the tropes that we all
- 57:27know and love and like I said before it just doesn't feel old
- 57:31or yeah. And I just I feel mean-spirited
- 57:33either. Yeah.
- 57:34It doesn't mean like, it's just a good time.
- 57:36Yeah, it captures that era perfectly.
- 57:38I think Talia was in fantastic Spirits.
- 57:42As we watch this, she sat between us and she was demanding
- 57:46love, and she watched it the whole time, because we came back
- 57:48from the night market and we brought her treats.
- 57:51She was very excited. So I think telling you guys this
- 57:53a nine. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:56So we watch it. Zoe appeared when doc Halloran
- 58:00popped up, okay? So she was I'd say she was in
- 58:03there for half of it. She really liked every time he
- 58:06was on the screen is when she would pop up.
- 58:08Yeah. So true, she likes Robert
- 58:10Englund. She does because he one of his
- 58:13characters experience an explosion and Theft.
- 58:15Yep. Yeah, that's the reason,
- 58:18exactly, 100%. Do you have a tag line?
- 58:20You want to put on this? Hmm, The Mask comes off.
- 58:30That's not bad. Mmm.
- 58:34I don't know. I'm thinking of I'm thinking for
- 58:38the episode art of this. I'm going to do because this is
- 58:41going to complement. The poster that we make.
- 58:45Be the legend, you wish to be. That sounds perfect.
- 58:49Because my idea for this is to do a Hall of Fame, wall of
- 58:53portraits of some of the icons and he's going to be right there
- 58:57and he's finally made it. So what was it again?
- 59:00Be the legend you wish to be that.
- 59:02Boom. Right there.
- 59:03That's hopeful. That's inspirational.
- 59:05How I could a what? Okay, I wish you watch drag race
- 59:09because I would say please give him a legendary Legend star.
- 59:13I don't get that. But for those of you who do get
- 59:15it, Good on you. Okay, who's your relate to?
- 59:27Tough on, right? Yeah.
- 59:29Because everybody fits within a Trope of a horror movie here.
- 59:32So maybe pick whichever Trope you think is best suited for
- 59:36your type of character? I'm probably one of the smaller
- 59:40guys that gets picked off. I'm one of the Stoners say, I
- 59:43feel like maybe I'm one of Kelly's, friends.
- 59:48That's just kind of there to hang out.
- 59:50I don't feel like I'm Final Girl Material.
- 59:52No, no, yeah, we're both fucked in a while but we're not going
- 59:56to Well, okay, so you're one of the friends.
- 59:59Yeah, you're the friend. Yeah, that was downstairs on the
- 1:00:02couch. And I'm one of the Stoners
- 1:00:05there. The one with the beanie because
- 1:00:08I wear beanies occasionally you wear lots of hats.
- 1:00:11How do I wear many hats? I don't know.
- 1:00:13I don't mean that metaphorically.
- 1:00:15I know, just where lots of hats and I do wear many hats, yes.
- 1:00:21Okay, I've got a review. Okay, obviously, not so
- 1:00:25favorable. I don't know.
- 1:00:27I did find an interesting one that was a Critic one, but ended
- 1:00:30up going user because they, it was more information and you
- 1:00:35know what I mean? So, this person wasn't very
- 1:00:37happy with it. I was looking forward to really
- 1:00:41seeing this movie when it came out and I was at Red Box at
- 1:00:44midnight to make my purchase the movie started out as a
- 1:00:46documentary on the self-proclaimed.
- 1:00:48Killer Leslie Vernon. Well at first, I thought it was
- 1:00:51cool and then it just drew out forever.
- 1:00:54The acting was horrible by the cast.
- 1:00:56In this movie and the special effects were not great at all.
- 1:00:59No Gore at all. And no real scare factor to go
- 1:01:02with it. I expected a lot more out of
- 1:01:04this movie from other reviews that I've read.
- 1:01:07I'm a big horror fan, and this one can be, can go in the trash.
- 1:01:11Can I hope this review was helpful to you?
- 1:01:13I'm just saying if you like movies mainly about someone
- 1:01:16being taped doing absolutely nothing.
- 1:01:18You might like it. Okay.
- 1:01:21So, to each their own, of course, everybody has opinions.
- 1:01:27I'm confused how he can say the effects are bad, but also
- 1:01:30there's no Gore. Well, yes, I don't know.
- 1:01:38I mean there are deaths but you don't really see a whole lot.
- 1:01:41But yeah. So and you do get some effects.
- 1:01:44I mean, you get blood, you know what I mean?
- 1:01:47Like I it's such a weird thing in the horror Community because
- 1:01:50there are some people that are like Like horror movies have to
- 1:01:52be scary. Yeah and it's not horror if it's
- 1:01:57not scary and because this isn't necessarily meant to scare you
- 1:02:02but really more talks about like how killer becomes scary.
- 1:02:07You know what I mean? Like yeah I can see how I can
- 1:02:10see how if you want just a straight-up slasher that this
- 1:02:13might not appeal. I agree with a in.
- 1:02:17It kind of becomes that in the second half but I think with
- 1:02:19everything that you were introduced, you get to know the
- 1:02:21Way too much for it to be scary. I don't think it's meant to be a
- 1:02:24scary but I think it would be cool if it did get scary because
- 1:02:30like, what if whenever that Revelation is made that it's
- 1:02:34actually her you actually feel like you yourself have that rug
- 1:02:38pulled out from under you and you also don't know what's
- 1:02:41happening. I don't feel like that is
- 1:02:43accomplished with this movie because I feel like it still
- 1:02:46maintains the tone it had in the first half.
- 1:02:48I feel like we needed like Jigsaw type Montage happening
- 1:02:55where she like goes like rewinds in her mind.
- 1:02:58Everything that's happened, and it's like don't do it at all.
- 1:03:01Dot, dot, dot, dot dot. Yeah.
- 1:03:03Like figuring out, all these moments where, like, he was
- 1:03:05actually targeting this towards her.
- 1:03:08Oh, yeah. And thinking about that before.
- 1:03:10One of the other things that I thought, tipped me off was
- 1:03:12whenever they were reviewing. The footage of the Ahab and
- 1:03:16Eugene offers her a drink and she's like, no, no, that's okay.
- 1:03:18And he's like, got a good one. You know, he's like saying that
- 1:03:23the weather's like are right, you've done, good work, man.
- 1:03:26So I think that they're like they have those little seeds.
- 1:03:29You can go hunting for them. I don't think that they're like
- 1:03:32interface or anything like that. Yeah, I do have this one other
- 1:03:37review that is the creek, when this is a short thing.
- 1:03:40So we've got plenty. We're pretty fast on this
- 1:03:43episode so far so I feel like when a little extra thing
- 1:03:46wouldn't hurt. I just sighs interesting
- 1:03:50desperately overcompensating, for the fact that most horror
- 1:03:54films are already parodies of themselves behind them.
- 1:03:56Ask takes a bite out of the dumb scream franchise before
- 1:03:59devouring its own tail proving that you are what you eat.
- 1:04:03It sounds like a critic that just doesn't like horror movies.
- 1:04:06Yeah. Things are calling scream.
- 1:04:08Dumb that is. It's telling of their
- 1:04:11preference. Yeah, which I, you know, that's
- 1:04:14not to say, like, to be gatekeeping, like you have to,
- 1:04:16like scream in this. To be a horror fan don't like
- 1:04:20horror movies at all, or they are so serious about liking
- 1:04:24horror movies, that they can't have a sense of More about it.
- 1:04:27It could be that it could go either way.
- 1:04:29Yeah. But either way, you know, I
- 1:04:32think Amanda is nice. I think it's nice to call
- 1:04:34attention to tropes that way. It's calling people out on not
- 1:04:37being original. I also think like for where fans
- 1:04:41like us that are fully, you know, we were joking around
- 1:04:46about it at the beginning of this episode, but like, our
- 1:04:48taste is just become trash. In trash ear, that more into
- 1:04:52horror we get, and I think it's, because we realized that we like
- 1:04:56the Ropes. The tropes are part of what gets
- 1:04:58and it's not the those aren't the only movies.
- 1:05:01We like we still like the new inventive like whoa,
- 1:05:04mind-blowing movies. That's true.
- 1:05:07But we also see the fun in the basics.
- 1:05:12Yeah. Like that tried-and-true
- 1:05:15formula. Yeah so that's fun.
- 1:05:16The comfortable stuff. I agree with that.
- 1:05:19Yeah you're right because I mean there's room for both.
- 1:05:21Yeah I have to have one or the other.
- 1:05:23I don't really like that argument of people.
- 1:05:26In that you have to do things differently every single time.
- 1:05:30I think it's perfectly fine to make very formulaic movie.
- 1:05:33They hits all the tropes and beats.
- 1:05:35They are familiar with joy. It.
- 1:05:37Yeah. Enjoy it.
- 1:05:38I'm very excited to have this conversation in a couple months
- 1:05:41when we cover five cream. Oh yes.
- 1:05:44Yes, that's true. I mean pretty much all scream.
- 1:05:47We're going to be talking about this type of stuff especially
- 1:05:49all the meta stuff. Yeah but I mean that's the whole
- 1:05:51fucking point in five is schlocky slashers first versus
- 1:05:56Fucking arthouse shit. Yeah.
- 1:05:58And I'm not saying that is this to say elevated horror, he is
- 1:06:03the dumbest guy. That's the one thing that I hate
- 1:06:05the most from this series, they made that they point that I hate
- 1:06:11that. I love the that she says it,
- 1:06:13like a pretentious Little Nerd to bet the Duke.
- 1:06:16Yeah, they make her a little pretentious during that movie,
- 1:06:20she's so much better. It's okay.
- 1:06:22So I got our listener views. Okay, so let's start off.
- 1:06:26With our wound Instagram review. This comes from horror nerd 86.
- 1:06:31Okay. They say, one of my favorite
- 1:06:33movies. Bummed we never got the sequel
- 1:06:35that they wanted to do same after hearing what they were
- 1:06:39thinking about doing with it. I would love to see that I would
- 1:06:42sue. They said that anything that's
- 1:06:44in that comic book is Cannon. If they do progress because the
- 1:06:48way they made it sound, if they do end up, making something
- 1:06:51else, they're going to skip that because the material was stated
- 1:06:54and also they've I've told that story now.
- 1:06:57I guess they wanted to adapt the comic book, but I think they
- 1:07:00want to do something fresh. I mean, that's kind of what he
- 1:07:04who shall not be named of The Buffy and Angel series did was
- 1:07:09he did comic books that are considered Canon but like, and
- 1:07:13they're even referred to as like season a season 90, really?
- 1:07:17Yeah, I can. He continued the show
- 1:07:20afterwards. Yeah.
- 1:07:21But like in comic book, right? Oh, that's cool.
- 1:07:24Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:07:25But there's some unfortunate. At storylines in those that.
- 1:07:28Oh, cool. This is Canon now.
- 1:07:30Yeah, no, I especially considering the fact that Xander
- 1:07:34is just, we didn't insert. Oh, I didn't even think about.
- 1:07:38Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's not exactly a novel
- 1:07:41idea. That's something that has been
- 1:07:43going on with a lot of Series. Yeah, even expands to a
- 1:07:47videogames that war gets introduced in books.
- 1:07:51Yeah. Okay.
- 1:07:54Other at Twitter we have Charles.
- 1:07:57He says, it's a fun and inventive.
- 1:08:00Take on a genre that is ripe for this dissection.
- 1:08:03Anyone who considers themselves a horror fan, should watch this.
- 1:08:06It may not win on those unfamiliar with the genre.
- 1:08:09I think that's true. I think I well I mean, I think
- 1:08:10you could still get enjoyment out of.
- 1:08:12It would be an interesting way of introducing people to it, but
- 1:08:15I think it really is intended for people who are familiar.
- 1:08:18It's kind of like, when you watch Dragon Ball Z abridged on
- 1:08:24YouTube. Like, I enjoy watching those
- 1:08:27with you, but I'm sure you get something way different out of
- 1:08:30it, than kind of, I'm kind of over Bridge.
- 1:08:32They stopped. I mean, it's done as far as I
- 1:08:36know now. But what they did with that it
- 1:08:38was more. They were basically adapting at
- 1:08:42a certain point while making these jokes that I feel like
- 1:08:47corrupted. The community is one of those
- 1:08:50things where it's like, stupid Insider jokes and it's Driven
- 1:08:52the cast of the show. I people just make these
- 1:08:56unrelated. Did it kind of like CinemaSins
- 1:09:01know? Like it's basically like they
- 1:09:02tried to do their own dub of Dragon Ball a certain point, you
- 1:09:06know? I mean, either telling the story
- 1:09:07they weren't modifying anything and then it kind of got serious
- 1:09:10at points and it's like, this is a comedy.
- 1:09:12This is all supposed to be stupid shit.
- 1:09:14Yeah, and yeah, the stickleback the days of the curl and pone
- 1:09:18count. That was fine.
- 1:09:20The thing that they did the most, I think, They made the
- 1:09:23Entre that think that that's when he became the punching bag
- 1:09:26was because people were always clowning on him.
- 1:09:28This has nothing to do with young.
- 1:09:30Sure. Always been the punching bag
- 1:09:31little know. He was like a badass and the
- 1:09:34first Miami he's been like a badass all like the entire time
- 1:09:39and he took a back seat but no, he was really cool and Dragon
- 1:09:44Ball for sure. Unrelated, not a bad Dragon
- 1:09:48Ball. Okay, next up, we have wdr Pete.
- 1:09:52TV. They say I enjoyed it.
- 1:09:54Pretty clever little movie a great.
- 1:09:56Yeah, definitely. And the final one is movies for
- 1:10:00days says who of this flick it was a big deal for me.
- 1:10:03When I first saw it during college Great Performances,
- 1:10:05excellent pace, and use of meta devices, funny and Charming,
- 1:10:09sneaky and dangerous, leaves a lasting impression.
- 1:10:12I absolutely agree because this is one that I like, I knew it
- 1:10:17was smaller and more of a cult movie, but I was kind of
- 1:10:20surprised to hear what it's gross.
- 1:10:22Is. Yeah.
- 1:10:23And isn't limited release. Yeah and it it's one that I
- 1:10:28forget other people haven't seen.
- 1:10:31I mean we're so weight on it. We watched this for the first
- 1:10:34time probably like what 76 years ago?
- 1:10:38Some like that. I don't remember.
- 1:10:39Well, it wasn't the first time. Yeah, thing is like it was like
- 1:10:43probably a decade after this movie came out.
- 1:10:46So it took a little bit for it to catch, but it finally did
- 1:10:50catch on, I think. Okay, that's it.
- 1:10:54That's all the reviews I got. Okay.
- 1:10:57So, all right. Next week.
- 1:11:00Next week. It's our patreon voted episode.
- 1:11:03Yes, the battle of the mall rony's has concluded and we are
- 1:11:08talking sobbing Mom. Oh yeah.
- 1:11:12I'm so excited because I've been wanting to talk this one
- 1:11:14forever. Yeah.

- 1:11:43friends. Yes.
- 1:11:45So our browser can be be of shaken up scared.
- 1:11:49If they have the most since the early early days of the show,
- 1:11:51Yeah yeah it's been an invitation.
- 1:11:57Yeah I was going to say that we've we've been on their show
- 1:12:00more recently than that. But yeah no that's recently
- 1:12:03though either way it's been a while.
- 1:12:05So long overdue. I'm excited.
- 1:12:08I keep thinking of like being in our house as being recent, but
- 1:12:12we've been in our house for two years and the show is just over
- 1:12:16two years. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:12:17So it's really, my sense of time is incredibly stupid.
- 1:12:21So it's fine, it's all good. So yeah, we're only talking
- 1:12:24about that. So watch it, it's free.
- 1:12:27It's it's, it's 80s. She is man.
- 1:12:30We were taught you. You want to talk about movie?
- 1:12:32They hits the tropes is a movie that hits the tropes and it does
- 1:12:36it in fantastic 80s wheeze. It's so much fun.
- 1:12:41I just I love this dumb little movie screen.
- 1:12:44Is that gas to? Yeah.
- 1:12:45And it's one that we'll just put on like random.
- 1:12:48It's almost like a comfort movie for us.
- 1:12:50I mean it's such a short movie. I remember one year like we're
- 1:12:53decorating Christmas cookies, remember that watching it Chris
- 1:12:56is dinosaur cookies it's fine. Yeah I mean whatever may be
- 1:13:00about Killer Robots. I'm off course you make dinosaur
- 1:13:04cookies. Yeah actress.
