- 1:01Okay, so let's kick this show off, all

- 1:06the show is over.
- 1:08This is Inspirations for Your Life, ladies and
- 1:10gentlemen, if you didn't know that, and the
- 1:12master weekly topic is Series 5, Show 32,
- 1:16Build a Life that Truly Matters.
- 1:19And today's granular topic is How to Stay
- 1:21Strong During Difficult Times, Series 5, Show 32,
- 1:25Episode 4.
- 1:27Welcome everyone to Inspirations for Your Life.
- 1:29I am John C.
- 1:30Morley, a serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video
- 1:35producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, a graduate
- 1:40student at Montclair State University, a passionate lifelong
- 1:44learner, and now so gratefully, gentlemen, to be
- 1:47a published author.
- 1:49Yes, very, very grateful for that opportunity and
- 1:53to have all you guys here and just
- 1:56listening and, you know, being able to soak
- 1:58up all this great knowledge and become, like
- 2:00I said, better versions of ourselves.
- 2:02I think that's really the key that's there.
- 2:07So let's dig right into the show, shall
- 2:09we?
- 2:09Life, ladies and gentlemen, isn't measured by the
- 2:11number of challenges we avoid.
- 2:14It's measured by how we respond when those
- 2:18challenges arrive.
- 2:22Every one of us will experience some disappointments,
- 2:27uncertainties, setbacks, and moments when it feels like
- 2:32the road ahead is harder than what we
- 2:34initially expected.
- 2:36Those moments don't have to define us.
- 2:39In fact, they often become the very experiences
- 2:43that shape our strength, our character, and our
- 2:48future.
- 2:49Today, I'm going to explore 30 principles that
- 2:53will help you remain strong during life's most
- 2:57difficult seasons and continue to build a life
- 3:00that truly matters.
- 3:01And I think that is one of the
- 3:02most important things I can share with you
- 3:04guys.
- 3:05Number one, challenges build strength.
- 3:08Every challenge you overcome leaves you stronger than
- 3:13before.
- 3:15Difficult moments stretch your abilities and prepare you
- 3:18for opportunities you couldn't handle yesterday.
- 3:22Number two, stay calm, everyone.
- 3:24When life becomes overwhelming, your greatest advantage and
- 3:29asset is a calm mind.
- 3:32Clear thinking leads to better decisions than emotional
- 3:36reactions.
- 3:38Number three, focus on solutions.
- 3:41Problems deserve attention, but solutions deserve your energy.
- 3:47Ask yourself what you can do instead of
- 3:49dwelling on what already happened.
- 3:54Number four, guys, keep perspective.
- 3:57One difficult day doesn't mean you'll have a
- 4:02difficult life.
- 4:04Remember that life circumstances are only one chapter,
- 4:09not the entire book or the complete story.
- 4:12Number five, please don't quit.
- 4:15The temptation to give up often appears just
- 4:18before meaningful progress.
- 4:21Stay committed to your goals even when the
- 4:23journey becomes, well, difficult.
- 4:27Number six, learn from adversity.
- 4:30Don't turn away from that.
- 4:31Every setback contains lessons that success alone could
- 4:36never teach you.
- 4:38Look for the wisdom hidden inside the struggle
- 4:40because it is there if you look deep
- 4:42enough.
- 4:44Number seven, please build resilience.
- 4:48Resilience isn't about avoiding hardship.
- 4:52Nope.
- 4:53It's about learning how to recover, adapt, and
- 4:59continue moving forward with confidence.
- 5:04Number eight, stay hopeful.
- 5:07I know that seems hard for a lot
- 5:09of people, but if you stay hopeful, your
- 5:11life will change sooner than you actually imagine.
- 5:16So I think that's a very important thing
- 5:18to realize is you have more power than
- 5:23you think.
- 5:24Stay hopeful.
- 5:26Hope allows us all to believe that better
- 5:29days are ahead even when you can't see
- 5:32them yet.
- 5:33Having blind faith, basically.
- 5:35Never underestimate the power of hope.
- 5:41It's very powerful.
- 5:43Number nine, protect your mindset.
- 5:50What you allow or choose to allow into
- 5:53your mind influences how you respond to life's
- 5:56setbacks and challenges.
- 5:58Feed your mind with encouragement, learning, and positive
- 6:02influences.
- 6:03And I think when we do that once
- 6:05or twice, it's like, oh my gosh, I
- 6:06actually get this.
- 6:07This makes so much sense to me.
- 6:10Yeah, I get it.
- 6:12Number 10, please keep believing.
- 6:16Believe in your ability to overcome obstacles.
- 6:19Confidence grows every time you refuse to let
- 6:22circumstances control your future.
- 6:25Number 11, stay patient.
- 6:28Growth takes time.
- 6:30Healing takes time.
- 6:31Progress takes time.
- 6:33Give yourself permission to move forward one step
- 6:37at a time.
- 6:38So take your time.
- 6:40Number 12, choose courage, guys.
- 6:44Courage isn't the absence of fear.
- 6:47It's making the decision to move forward despite
- 6:50it.
- 6:51Number 13, adapt quickly.
- 6:57You see, life changes.
- 6:59And successful people learn to adjust, to adapt
- 7:01without losing sight of their purpose.
- 7:04They're like a chameleon.
- 7:06They blend into their environment.
- 7:08Flexibility is one of life's greatest strengths.
- 7:11So why don't we learn how to use
- 7:14it and what we can do?
- 7:15I think that's a very key thing.
- 7:18And when we learn that, our life has
- 7:20so much potential.
- 7:22But we have to first figure out what
- 7:26it is.
- 7:27And how do we embrace that?
- 7:31And it can be so hard for a
- 7:33lot of people, right?
- 7:34So very difficult for a lot of people.
- 7:38And I'm going to tell you that that's
- 7:40something that a lot of people, again, just
- 7:43don't really understand.
- 7:48They don't understand what's happening or why things
- 7:53are happening, okay?
- 7:57I think the most important thing I want
- 7:59to tell you is that you can make
- 8:01so much difference in your life and others
- 8:06when you embrace it.
- 8:09Number 14, guys, keep improving.
- 8:13Even during the difficult seasons, continue learning and
- 8:17growing.
- 8:17Whether it's raining, whether the snow is out
- 8:19there, whether the sun is out there, you
- 8:22need to do it anyway.
- 8:23So we need to operate not on feelings
- 8:25and emotions.
- 8:26We need to be operating our principles of
- 8:28life on discipline because motivation does fade, guys.
- 8:34Small improvements today will prepare you for greater
- 8:37opportunities tomorrow.
- 8:38I think a lot of people today don't
- 8:41realize that, you know, what you're doing today
- 8:45is setting the future for tomorrow.
- 8:47That's probably one of the biggest things that
- 8:49I can tell you.
- 8:50And if you respect that, you're going to
- 8:53grow so very much, okay?
- 8:56So very much, more than maybe you actually
- 9:00imagined.
- 9:03But this growth does not happen overnight, guys.
- 9:06It takes actual time.
- 9:10Time when you can decide, you know, what
- 9:12you want to do or why you're going
- 9:14to do something.
- 9:15I think that's an important thing for a
- 9:18lot of people to understand.
- 9:20Like, you know, why does that happen or
- 9:21how does that happen?
- 9:24And I know a lot of you are
- 9:25saying to me, John, I've been there, I've
- 9:28done that, but it hasn't worked.
- 9:30And the reason it hasn't worked is because
- 9:32you've been so much into, like, what you're
- 9:35trying to do and you're not into the
- 9:37real concept of it.
- 9:39That's probably the most important thing I can
- 9:41tell you.
- 9:43And it's something that you have the ability
- 9:46to do if you can be all you
- 9:49want to be.
- 9:50But that doesn't happen overnight, guys.
- 9:53You have to first embrace the truth.
- 9:57You have to embrace the core, okay?
- 10:00You have to stay strong.
- 10:01I'm not going to tell you staying strong
- 10:03is easy because sometimes you've got to put
- 10:06the hard time in, right?
- 10:10And that's important, guys, okay?
- 10:16A lot of people don't get it.
- 10:19They don't get it because what's happening is
- 10:23people are so into the W-I-I
- 10:28-F-U, what's in it for you?
- 10:31Not as much, no.
- 10:33They're into W-I-I-F-M, what's
- 10:35in it for me.
- 10:41Interesting, right?
- 10:46Crazy, though, how people act.
- 10:58And I'll tell you that you can make
- 10:59a difference.
- 11:04The difference comes from your ability to recognize
- 11:09that you can make a change, okay?
- 11:17You can make the change if you want
- 11:20to make the change.
- 11:22I'm not saying, again, it's going to be
- 11:24easy for you, but I'm saying that you
- 11:26can actually do this every day of your
- 11:29life if you embrace it.
- 11:31If you embrace it, then people will realize
- 11:39that there is more to life than just
- 11:43what appears on, let's say, the surface.
- 11:51I think that's an important thing that, again,
- 11:53a lot of people will say, well, I
- 11:56don't know if I can do that.
- 11:59And the reason people say that is because
- 12:01they're doing something that's not true to who
- 12:04they are.
- 12:05I think that's probably one of the most
- 12:06important things, is that they're not being true
- 12:09to who they are, okay?
- 12:13They're not being true to who they are.
- 12:17And so what does this really mean?
- 12:22It means that you can make a big
- 12:25difference in your life and others' lives, okay?
- 12:32But sometimes it's trying to figure out why
- 12:35things are working.
- 12:41And then you can decide, do I want
- 12:44to make a change or not?
- 12:47Or do I want to do something else?
- 12:56I think that's something that many people have
- 13:00to realize.
- 13:02It takes time, but you can grow.
- 13:06You really can grow.
- 13:08Number 15, guys, don't be afraid to ask
- 13:10for help.
- 13:12Seeking guidance isn't a sign of weakness.
- 13:15It's a sign of wisdom.
- 13:17Strong people understand they don't have to face
- 13:20every challenge alone.
- 13:24Number 16, encourage others.
- 13:27One of the most powerful things you can
- 13:30do during your own difficult season is this.
- 13:33Encourage someone else.
- 13:35Your words may become the hope another person
- 13:39needs.
- 13:40And the process, you'll often strengthen yourself as
- 13:43well.
- 13:44So why not give that a try?
- 13:47There's gonna be naysayers out there, and let's
- 13:50be completely honest about it.
- 13:54But you can do more than you think
- 13:58if you just apply yourself.
- 14:00If you apply yourself.
- 14:02If you don't apply yourself, then you're just
- 14:04gonna be back in the same old place
- 14:06you were before, right?
- 14:10You're back in the same place you were
- 14:13before.
- 14:17I think if you understand some things, maybe
- 14:23you'll realize some stuff.
- 14:26But you won't get this.
- 14:27You won't get this overnight.
- 14:37And I'll tell you that maybe you're gonna
- 14:39say to me, John, we don't need to
- 14:41do this.
- 14:47But I'm here to tell you that you're
- 14:49not doing this because you have to.
- 14:50You're doing it because you want to.
- 15:03And I'll tell you this.
- 15:05I'll tell you if you keep showing up
- 15:07in life and you keep coming back, the
- 15:12people that show up are gonna win.
- 15:16So keep showing up.
- 15:21People won't like it when you show up
- 15:23because they're gonna realize that they're not being
- 15:26authentic.
- 15:29And with you being around, you're actually gonna
- 15:32expose the fact that they're not authentic.
- 15:34Not directly, but indirectly you are because it's
- 15:39gonna cause them to realize that they're just
- 15:42being a phony.
- 15:44Number 17, stay disciplined, folks.
- 15:47Difficult times can tempt you to abandon good
- 15:51habits.
- 15:52Discipline keeps you moving forward when motivation disappears.
- 15:58Stay committed to the routines that help you
- 16:01grow.
- 16:04Not the ones that are gonna put you
- 16:06on a pedestal.
- 16:07Not the ones that are gonna get you
- 16:09a pat on the back or even get
- 16:11you a reward.
- 16:13The ones that are gonna help you grow.
- 16:23That's the key, guys.
- 16:25That's really the key.
- 16:29The key that many people don't wanna share
- 16:32or even see.
- 16:40Why do I say that?
- 16:41I say that because people just, they go
- 16:44through this different transformation.
- 16:49One that maybe isn't even that great, but
- 16:52one that maybe is gonna get you to
- 16:54see that you actually have so much potential
- 16:57in your life.
- 16:58So much potential.
- 17:01And I know, ladies and gentlemen, that you
- 17:04can be all you wanna be if you
- 17:07keep showing up, if you're authentic, and if
- 17:11you realize that our first mission in life
- 17:15is to help others.
- 17:16Yes, we have to take care of ourselves,
- 17:18but we do wanna help others.
- 17:21Number 18, please focus on progress.
- 17:25Don't measure your success by how fast you're
- 17:28moving.
- 17:30Measure it by the intentional fact that you
- 17:34are still moving.
- 17:35You see, every small step forward is proof
- 17:39that you're refusing to give up.
- 17:41And that is probably one of the most
- 17:43priceless things in the world.
- 17:44So I don't care how people are telling
- 17:45you, saying, oh, you can't do this, you
- 17:46can't do that.
- 17:48You're showing up.
- 17:49And because you're showing up, you can make
- 17:52a very, very big difference.
- 17:59A very, very big difference.
- 18:00A difference that can change your whole life.
- 18:04I will tell you that most people will
- 18:10try to get you to drop your core
- 18:16and get people to gravitate to them.
- 18:20But that's being selfish, being selfish.
- 18:24Ladies and gentlemen, never, ever stop learning.
- 18:27I know you might say, well, gee, I
- 18:28finished high school.
- 18:31I finished college.
- 18:32I'm done.
- 18:33So many people I talk to say, I'm
- 18:34done.
- 18:35I'm done with learning.
- 18:36I'm not.
- 18:38I'm gonna learn my whole life.
- 18:40I love learning.
- 18:41I'm back for another master's and I'm back
- 18:42for my PhD.
- 18:43And this is an amazing experience.
- 18:47Every challenge has something to teach you.
- 18:52I want you to please stay open to
- 18:54new ideas, better strategies, and valuable lessons that
- 18:57will prepare you for the future.
- 19:02Now, the future will not only help you,
- 19:03but the future will help others, okay?
- 19:09And if it helps others, you're actually gonna
- 19:12feel good too, okay?
- 19:19If you realize that concept, you're gonna be
- 19:21like, oh my gosh, I just made like
- 19:23this huge change.
- 19:27And it's gonna come to you as, I'm
- 19:32gonna say an inspiration.
- 19:34It'll come to you as a minor epiphany.
- 19:36You're not gonna think of it as much
- 19:39because the fact that you're getting control over
- 19:41your life and the fact that you can
- 19:43stay strong, that's powerful.
- 19:48Number 20, guys, every setback teaches.
- 19:54Failure doesn't have to become your identity.
- 19:58Some people will say you're a failure, but
- 20:01you're not.
- 20:04It can become your education.
- 20:07Every setback leaves behind knowledge that can help
- 20:11you make wiser decisions and choices next time.
- 20:15Maybe you don't have everything you need for
- 20:17this time, but that's okay.
- 20:20If you could just grow a little bit
- 20:22each day, I think that is the piece
- 20:24that so many people out there be like,
- 20:26oh wow, I grew.
- 20:31And you don't grow to impress people.
- 20:34You grow so you can become a better
- 20:36version of yourself.
- 20:37You know, I wanna think about this like
- 20:38a turtle, right?
- 20:40When a turtle outgrows its shell, it leaves
- 20:45its shell.
- 20:46So let's talk about that for a moment.
- 20:47So what happens and how does a turtle
- 20:52outgrow its shell?
- 20:56Well, let's think about this for just a
- 20:59minute, okay?
- 21:00So a turtle does not technically outgrow its
- 21:03shell in the way a human outgrows clothing
- 21:05because the shell is basically living.
- 21:10Integral part of the turtle skeleton fused with
- 21:12spine and ribs.
- 21:13The shell grows proportionally with the rest of
- 21:16the body expanding as the turtle ages.
- 21:19However, turtles do outgrow the outer dead layer
- 21:22of their shell leading to a process called
- 21:25shedding or flaking while the underlying bony structure
- 21:29expands.
- 21:31So the internal living bone, the shell itself
- 21:34grows along the jagged edges where the plates
- 21:37meet.
- 21:37Similar to how a human skull expands during
- 21:40growth.
- 21:42The scute shedding or aquatic turtles, the bony
- 21:46shell is covered by the keratin plates called
- 21:49the scutes.
- 21:51As a turtle grows, these scutes become too
- 21:53tight.
- 21:54New larger scutes grow beneath the old ones
- 21:57causing the old scutes to shed or peel
- 22:00away often revealing brighter color underneath.
- 22:03Now, instead of shedding their outer scutes, tortoises
- 22:07often grow new rings of keratin around the
- 22:10edges of existing scutes often leading to a
- 22:14primating or raised appearance.
- 22:18So this is pretty important.
- 22:24When we say we've outgrown something, we basically
- 22:29have not kept up with learning.
- 22:33And what we've learned now does not come
- 22:38close to what we need to move forward.
- 22:40So we either stall or we go backwards
- 22:42because we don't have enough knowledge.
- 22:44Number 21, please keep your purpose.
- 22:47When life becomes difficult, and it will, it's
- 22:50easy to lose sight of why you started.
- 22:52Remember your purpose.
- 22:54It will give you the strength to keep
- 22:56moving even when circumstances become uncertain.
- 23:00In other words, know your core values.
- 23:03Now, you might be younger and saying, John,
- 23:06I don't know my core values or I've
- 23:08had them and they change.
- 23:09They'll generally change to you get into maybe,
- 23:12I'm gonna say, maybe the end of your
- 23:16college years or just after graduating college.
- 23:19Then you'll be very certain by that time
- 23:21of what your true core values are and
- 23:23what you want to live from and be.
- 23:27Number 22, stay determined.
- 23:29Determination is choosing to continue even when the
- 23:31path becomes difficult.
- 23:34Many people quit too soon, stay committed because
- 23:37persistence often separates success and disappointment.
- 23:42Number 23, believe in tomorrow.
- 23:47Today's struggles don't determine tomorrow's possibilities.
- 23:53Better days are built by counting and continuing
- 23:56to believe your efforts will eventually produce results
- 24:00because they will.
- 24:02Number 24, growth follows struggle.
- 24:05Very few people today grow during comfortable seasons.
- 24:09Growth usually comes through challenges that stretch your
- 24:13thinking, strengthen your character and expand your abilities.
- 24:18Number 25, guys, whatever you do, don't stop,
- 24:22keep moving.
- 24:24Don't allow disappointment to stop your progress.
- 24:28Even one small step forward keeps you moving
- 24:32toward a better future.
- 24:34Reading one more book, watching one more podcast,
- 24:39reading one more article, all can help contribute
- 24:42to this.
- 24:43Number 26, build confidence your whole life.
- 24:46Confidence grows every time you overcome something you
