- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: Glad that you are with us for a Tuesday, made the fifth show.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's a bit damp out here on the high plains today.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Believe you're not.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's raining.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's raining.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: Believe it or not.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: It is extremely overcast and raining.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: Temperatures are only supposed to get into the forties today.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: And on top of that, there is even a chance of some of the white stuff appearing here on May the 5th.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: I probably won't, but it does sound intriguing.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's intriguing.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: What about you?
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: Grab hand and go, go, sir.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: Get some Sinko to Maya with today.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: I know, I would be.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'd be really good, but I think I got to work tonight, unfortunately.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: So.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: What do you got?
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: What are you working on tonight?
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: Tiger Media Network stuff?
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: Hour at Eagle Radio.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: It got.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: This is a D double D double dip in this right over there for now.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's figured it out how to make it work.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, good.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be busy tonight.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: I am scheduled to do goodland high school softball this afternoon, but mother nature might have something to say about that as it sits right now
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: Once again, this could let up and maybe the sun comes out, the sun's not going to come out.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: I have a feeling just deep down that we're not going to be playing softball today, just a gut feeling.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: It has not been announced as far as I know.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a gut feeling that I have.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it seems a little damp.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: and then you add on the fact that it's not gonna get it before each of this stuff is not gonna dry out and so I just think it's going to be and you know we're we're we're in goodland where we don't have fancy tarps you know the cover of the field we just deal with it every mother nature throws at us you know don't don't have turf infields either play on dirt and grass so you know it's just whatever mother nature says we're gonna do so I have a feeling we're not gonna see that happening today
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, I don't know what about it, maybe I will go off for a sink on a mile and I don't know if I have nothing going on.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's really, maybe someday you'll learn this, Garrett, someday, you know, it probably 10 years from now.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: When you have kids going out just isn't as much fun, particularly when they're little.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not as much fun, you know?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: They complain about eating, they, you know, they're crying at the table, they're not happy, they don't sit still.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't get to enjoy a meal.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: So, at the Volcker household, we just cook.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: and my wife is a wonderful cook so so we get we eat in a lot at our own house we cook our own meals so we do a lot of that and it probably it it prevents the gray hairs from continuing to piling because if we ate out every night it probably lose my mind it for people it is taco Tuesday also so you can kind of celebrate you double-dipped little double-dipped there exactly maybe you can have taco Tuesday from a sinking to my restaurant deliver it to the station for you
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: There you go, tell him give a little free shout out if you bring him, you know if you're going to throw an extra taco for a free shout out on there, so that's broadcast powered by
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: Tico's tacos.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever you want to call it.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: Today's program, we will be visiting with good friend of the program, former Goodland Cowboy.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Cloud County Community College pitcher Cole Linton will join the show today.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: He is the reigning Jayhawk pitcher of the year.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's a future pitcher at Tarleton State.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: uh... cloud county one the j-hawk west for the first time ever here in twenty twenty sixty cloud county baseball team so we'll get some thoughts from a young man who's been a integral part of making that a possibility also was named i think last week's j-hawk picture of the week called inton was as well
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: So look forward to having Cole on the program.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's joined as many times before.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite was when he joined us from his time up in the Northwoods League.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: And was talking about his experience of the beer batter.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: That was great.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you'll have to ask, that's a great story about the beer batter.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: from from coal lints and so we'll talk to and also and else I saw a great picture of him they you know the minor in those leagues they have those odd nights where they have that one random night of where the uniform and team is completely different you know and they had something about this something about the Santa Claus is and so they had the scent they were all dressed in Santa Claus uniforms what it looked like to me and it was the belt above the belt it had the
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: It had the regular baseball belt, but then above that was the Santa Claus belt on the uniform.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: The old double belt picture.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, and that's not a great look.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: Just want to look people now, but it was interesting.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, you got to go out.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: If you ever looked at all at all the random names that they come up with, for some of those one night off, was one night off, one offer, thank you for seeing those.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: You got to go digging around.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: There are some really, really good ones.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: There's one up in Wisconsin called the utter tuggers.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's phenomenally hilarious.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of great team names up there too, or they can do that as well.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, absolutely, absolutely.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's all kinds of great things.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'll have to tell you one off-air, because I can't say that one over there, but there's another really good one that's out there.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: I actually have a shirt for it.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, well, so we'll talk to Cole Lenten today.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: Royals fans, getting...
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: the shaft is kind of the best way to put it with something that happened yesterday and i'm cares probably like what is going on with this laptop i'd say i saw something yesterday and social media had had had had had had so much fun looking at it because i did not get burned by this but i could totally understand if you were a royal fan and did get burned by this so we'll get to that in segment number three we'll touch on what happened in uh... the NHL and be a playoffs uh... as well we'll get what happened with the royals and rockies uh... yesterday too
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: so we get to all that coming up in today's program, but I want to kick off the show today talking about a story that happened last week, but I think it's fascinating because I think there could be I think this could be something that we see a lot going in the future if we're talking about that and so
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: We will talk about that about Duke set to play three basketball games on Amazon Prime.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll get to that coming up here in just a matter of seconds.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: Once again, don't forget that the FB bank text line.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: You can hit us up, get your thoughts, your comments, your questions in there at 785-899-222.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: Our newsman, Lucas Kenny, who is a Cloud County T-Bird, alum, says go T-Birds this morning.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: So he's fired up to listen to the today's show, Lucas Good Morning.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: So, yes, we will, so I'll kid us up there with your thoughts, your comments on the F&B bank text line.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: So, news came out, yes, or let's earlier last week, that Duke was, is set to play Yukon, Michigan, and Gonzaga, all,
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: Powerhouse programs and men's college basketball, next season on Amazon Prime, and what is a ground-breaking TV deal, as the blue jays are, or sorry, the blue devils, are entering the first of its kind broadcast deal for huge three games that will bring millions in NIL opportunities.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: So how is this different than any other television deal?
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'll try to recap as best I can.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: So Duke, of course, is a part of the ACC.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: Their conference is tied to ESPN.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: And so any time that Duke plays at home, the ESPN has the first rights to do the game.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: And most of the time, they're going to take Duke, and they're going to put it on ESPN to the U ACC network, something they're going to put it on there.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to put the Duke min's basketball team somewhere on there.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: More than like on ESPN or ESPN too, because it's Duke.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be on the big channels.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: And so Dukes, so that's where they go, and then ESPN draws money from that viewership, of course, Dukes a major viewing eye.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: But ESPN gets some of that money, and then some of that money goes towards Dukes, you know, in the media TV rights deal.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: As we see every single time we just talk about a guest with a big 10, getting 1.3 billion dollars that is spread across the conference.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: Same thing in the ACC, it's not the same amount, but it's pretty close.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: So Duke is in this deal where they have a deal with the ASP, the ACC is a deal with ESPN, and so Duke gets money for that.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then if Ducos, let's say Duke plays a non-conference game at Nebraska.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say this for fun.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Duke plays a non-conference game at Kansas.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, guess what, Kansas has deals with ESPN and with the Fox and they bid on those games before the year to see who gets to have that game.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: So let's just say Fox is the one that won that bid for that Duke Kansas game.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if that's the case, then
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: Fox will work with Kansas and Duke and spread the money out a little bit even with that way Kansas getting more portions because they're the home team.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what's, that's kind of the deal there.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: So Duke is kind of going behind the back of ESPN a little bit here.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: And has worked out a deal to take on three basketball power houses at neutral sites.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's another big thing.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: These are not home or away games.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: These are neutral site games.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: But since Duke is setting it up, they're going to be part of an NIL opportunity.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: So a majority of the money that prime makes from this game,
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this is going to be, I think, honestly, we might be staring at something that's going to happen in the future.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: When you saw this article, what were you thinking, Garrett?
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's what I thought.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: I thought we're looking at something that's going to be in the future.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely feels that way.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: Just because we talked about it several times how money affects everything, especially right now in college sports.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: And it's good for Duke, obviously.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't know how what the exact number will be if they're going to get in an IL, but I mean, that could be an extra one or two players that are five star recruits.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so who knows what it might be?
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think this is not good for college athletics just in general.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: because I don't I don't know if I really am a fan of one team like Duke seems to be the the successor of this now and you can only imagine how many other teams are just going to follow suit here in the next several seasons and there's going to be a lot of teams that are burned by this because not everybody can't know not everybody's a Duke you know not everybody's that blue blood school that can get benefited by this.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the Duke Amazon partnership is a multi-year agreement and the NIO opportunities for Duke will be huge in the millions annually.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's what Sources tell CBS Sports in this article.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, other event organizers had been pursuing Duke for significant non-conference games, but none of those could match the payouts that would come with prime videos package.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: So once again, instead of
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: like, for example, Amazon Prime or whatever you want to say, going to the conference, ACC and saying, hey, we'd like to get in on this deal to cover Duke basketball, we'll pay you this.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: They just went straight past the ACC and said, hey, Duke, we'll pay you an absurd amount of money for you to have your games played on Amazon Prime.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: over the next three seasons if you play three games each season we will pay you a this percentage of what we make on it which they don't have the numbers out here but my guess is it must be pretty good if Duke is saying yes to it and Duke can get away with it once again because they're not playing there in Durham and they're not playing at an ACC school and they're not playing in an arena of another power conference school that
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: at what's going there's there's two parts to be one says this way is not going to work going forward because they're going in the next television rights deals.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: they're going to put something out there that in the contract that says you cannot schedule any games with any other television or streaming partners outside of the agreement that we have or we are not going to include you in the money that you get from the conference.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: I could totally see that.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's one way I see it.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then the other way I see it, which I think is a possibility as crazy as this might sound.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: Colleges might just start shopping their own worth.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: and going for there, doing the Notre Dame type thing.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Once again, Notre Dame is not affiliated with the conference, but guess what, they're affiliated with NBC.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: Anytime the Golden Domer's play at home, they play on NBC.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Not, not proud, I mean, it is a plan prime to streamed on private.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: They're not playing on prime or NBC sports network or somewhere like that on a streaming channel.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, NBC, which once again is white, and Notre Dame is a national brand.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: We'll guess what, in this day and error where there are so many different streaming opportunities whether it be prime, Netflix, ESPN, Fox, whatever it may be, besides your television, too, to be, I don't care, whatever else you want to throw in there.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: These are opportunities, they're supposed to be, say, hey, guess what, Kansas, we'd be willing to pay you, you know, for three games of non-conference in a neutral site, if you want to put yourself out there, and I guarantee.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: in today's culture where we're talking about trying to make and basketball eight to 12 million dollar rosters and more maybe 15 million dollar rosters they're going to take every penny that they can get.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, because you have to, you have to do that now.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_02]: It is, I mean, we see so many schools in the red, you have to take every little step in the right direction that you can if you're going to make money.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't, obviously, Duke, not sure where their financial situation looks like I doubt it's in the red compared to some of the probably bottom tier ACC schools.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: But if those ACC schools were hop on board, they would say the exact same thing.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, we're going to do and we're going to take that deal.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: This story ties back into the big 10 store we talked about.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: I talked about yesterday.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: It just does.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: Are you keeping up with the Joneses?
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: Because guess what, the big 10 and Michigan and those teams are really in 85 to 90 million dollars a year just from television.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: Guess what the ACC's really in.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: Duke is really in just from their television deal.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: Probably 50, maybe 60 on a good day.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: They're still, that's still 30 to $40 million behind.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: The big 10.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot of money.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: Now yeah, of course, you can have great boosters that can help, you know, keep your program going and something like that.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: But that's $40 million.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's a humongous gap to fill and boosters aren't able to fill that more than likely.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: So you're looking for ways to close that gap with some of the best teams.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: And guess what?
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: This is a way to do it.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: I just think looking at it like this is this is either going to go one or two ways.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: It either gets completely squashed.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: By the conference it says, well, if you pull this, we're pulling your funding and you're no longer going to get the money from the conference, which then you're going to see teams pull away and say, well, certain teams, not all teams, certain teams like Duke basketball have the cloud to probably go independent for example and say, we don't want to be a part of the ACC.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: We'll just play independence all the time and we'll have our own TV deal with Amazon prime.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: Think about that.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that is what could happen.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it could be totally that thing.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: Could you imagine, you know, all the blue blood powers in basketball, Kansas, Duke, whoever else you want to throw in their North Carolina, throw any, any of the teams that are known for their bats Arizona, your big power blue blood programs are like, you know what?
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to be a part of a conference anymore.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to break away when our deal is over and we're just going to take our own deals and make our own money that way.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's crazy.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, it's, when you, when you think about independence in football, it's, it's a lot different than when you look at basketball because basketball you, you, you almost have to have a conference you would think you got the conference tournament.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: You got, uh, NCAA tournament, which is so much different from football.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like, obviously, every team going into like March 1st is still technically alive.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_02]: Unless they've been, you know, those some leagues that they don't carry every team in the,
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: conference tournament, but everybody in the power for is definitely still alive.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: And even if you had a 13 and 19 regular season like you can get on a run when your conference tournament in make the NCAA if you're an independent.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: What does that look like now and how to scheduling work because every other team is in their heart of the conference schedule like what would that look like.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think it would be a disaster for college sports, but kind of like to your point, it's probably coming.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it's in five years, maybe it's in two, maybe it's in twelve, who knows, but it's probably on its way.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: You talk about your college sports a disaster, we're there folks, we are there.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: You have let the cat out of the bag, the toothpaste out of the tube, it is gone, it is out.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: whether it was gambling, N-I-L, portal movement, it's all out of the bag and getting it back in the bag is gonna be nearly impossible to do so.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: And because the NCAA, because the institutions pretty much bullied the NCAA to do these things and let these things happen and other, and then student athletes just sued the live in daylight to end so they're like, fine, well let it burn and you know what, and guess what, it's happening.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_01]: But once again, it really just depends.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: because, like I said, if you're a big enough brand, you can do this kind of thing where you go and you can go to Amazon Prime and this example here and say, hey, we'll just stream all our games on Prime.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_01]: What we'll do that, we don't have a problem with that.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a big enough brand, you can pull that off because you can pull in the streaming numbers to do so.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, but there's a lot of institutions that cannot do that.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just, I think, what are your thoughts on this and we'll get to break by this?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: What are your thoughts on the, you know, why can I not think of it now?
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: Over in Europe, the Premier League and soccer, the relegation.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think we're gonna see that in college sports?
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: Because you could kind of tie this into this a little bit.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: That would be like what would it kind of tie into like if you're in a conference and you go bad or like let's just let's just say they let's just say they get rid of conferences and they go with super conferences so you're taking the top
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: five 10 programs from each conference.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: So there's 40 teams in a super conference, for example.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: And those are your top division one teams.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's, there's a, then there's a big bar.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then below that, you've got like, we'll just throw in your marshals, your Rutgers, your, your, your, your, your bottom feeding division one teams.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: And then, but if they're good enough, Rutgers for all to use Rutgers as example, they get good enough and they're able to finish, you know, they get finished at the top of their, of their respected spot and then jump into the next league up, you know, I don't know if you will ever follow Premier League soccer, but that's kind of what it was, you know, like leads, you know, leads United was here and then they jumped up into the big league, well then they fell back down, you know, you have to keep being good to stay up, otherwise you fall down into the, you get relegated down to the lower division.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: I would be interesting to see, I don't know if that'll ever happen.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that kind of seems...
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: I know it seems far back, don't it?
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it does.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I don't know.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's just one of those things that I still love conferences.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: I love the old school style.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, even the super conferences, like not a huge fan of it, but it started to grow on me, like seeing Oregon in the big 10, seeing UCLA, Stanford, and the ACC.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_02]: But to see that, I just don't get, I don't know how that would ever work.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: for the relegation system because we are talking I know it it seems like football basketball is only sports a matter in college sports but we do have other ones you know there are uh... what would you call the be tier sports necessarily where there are tier non-profit making sports but like those are still a thing and there's scheduling for that is still like athletic director still have to make a schedule and so i wonder what that would look like also
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: Once again, I think we're just talking about basketball and football at this point in time breaking way and doing their own thing.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think you could still see, you know, your softball, your baseball, still running in conference, all that kind of stuff.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: I like we're coming up on my favorite times a year here in the next couple weeks, college baseball, tournament week, give me more of that.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: You could, you could, you don't have to pay me if you just want to fly me down to Hoover to watch the SEC baseball tournament for like six days.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: My fair part is just like,
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: you wake up early.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's like 11 a.m. you turn on TV.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: There's a game on.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: There it is.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: There's a game on.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's like on the in champ week or March madness throughout that.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: That first.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: Take your covers tournament.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: And then the NCAA, of course.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm giving you a game.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's phenomenal.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: So it is coming up one favor times a year.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I just I think going back once again putting a ball on this.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: I just think looking at this scenario with with Duke basketball.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is something to really pay attention to because
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: N-I-L is a huge thing in order to build competitive rosters and be.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're Duke, you're looking for any way to get back in the game because right now, you know, Duke, you've got a lot of hurdles.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to try to recruit the best freshman because you really can't go in the portal every single year and get new players because your academic qualifications are pretty high.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: So you just can't go in, you'll get anybody.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: So you've got to have that money to pull in the best and the smartest to come to your school.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: And that can be hard to do.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: because those guys can be expensive.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: So they've got to find ways to pull in more money.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: This type of deal wants to get with an NIL just going to that school that partners with it.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I think it could, it's just something to watch.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: And like you said, it could be two years.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's further down the line.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: Five to maybe ten years down the line.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: Look out for this.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: When television contract deals come up, this is something to watch.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: Because some schools can be like, we're going to go on our own.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to make way more money.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Don't have to do that.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to suck for the fans too.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: Go buy like Richard Tubi.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: I've never owned Tubi in my life.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: I have Amazon Prime.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_02]: So I go watch.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: I can watch due games if I want to.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_02]: So many.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_02]: So many of them.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, it's here's the thing, like if you're a streamer, like I am.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: So you have YouTube TV to catch all your regular stuff like that.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: But guess what?
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to watch something on Netflix, you got to pay for that.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't watch something on Peacock, you got to pay for that.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: You want to watch it?
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: You may be saving money by night being not spending $200 on direct TV, for example.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: But by the time you add up prime all this stuff, you're still getting pretty close.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: You're just you're just having to pick more spots.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's a challenge.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you hundred percent.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's a challenge.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't love it But that's the era we live in right now.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's not better times before we get to break Michael says he's our resident huge KU fan he goes I I dig it you can watch games and 4k on prime put all the games put all the KU games on it
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you, Michael.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a huge 4K fan myself.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why in the year of 2026 we don't have more 4K.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think we should be having more games on 4K.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's fantastic.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: And there is a difference between 4K and 1080p.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: No doubt about it.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and they also have Amazon probably so the football.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what they'll do for basketball.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't really watch a ton of the NBA like regular season or whatnot, but for football season, they had different angles, too.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like you could watch a sky cam of the game if you wanted to.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, the stat cast and other things like that.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's pretty cool.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, not everybody is interested in that, but there might be a few people that would be interested.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: I guarantee they will guarantee that they will.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: Fasting story.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: But once the future of college boards on television might be changing, coming up the next decade, something we'll have to keep our eye on with this deal between Duke and Amazon Prime.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's something that we could see possibly happening a lot more going forward or it's going to change the way that we view our sports and teams possibly get television deals, something to watch.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: All right, 734 Mountain, 834 Central Time, on SyncoDemile, everyone's having a great Tuesday.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's a damp and chilly one here on the high plains.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: We're back after a break.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk with our good friend Cole Linton of the Cloud County Community College baseball team.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: Next, listen to the morning blitz.
