- 0:01Luke chapter 13 Let us pray. Our Father, who is in heaven,
- 0:09holy is your name, your Kingdom come, Your will be done on
- 0:18earth, just as it is in heaven. Give us today Our Daily Bread.
- 0:27Forgive us for our sins as we forgive those who sin against
- 0:33us. Lead us not into temptation,
- 0:39Father. Deliver us from the evil one,
- 0:45for yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever
- 0:55and ever man. Let's start in verse one.
- 1:01There were present at that season some that told him of the
- 1:05Galileans, whose blood pilot had mingled with their sacrifices
- 1:11too. And Jesus answering, said unto
- 1:14them, Suppose you that these Galileans were sinners above all
- 1:18the Galileans, because they suffered such things?
- 1:23So here the people are wanting to know Jesus thoughts about
- 1:28what Pilate had done whenever he dressed up some soldiers in
- 1:33civilian clothing and he had them put their weapons
- 1:38underneath and they were in the crowd amongst some protesters
- 1:44because Pilate had brought in some ensigns from the Roman
- 1:52government. And the people were revolting
- 1:56because they're in Jerusalem. He had pictures of Caesar and
- 2:02you can see here that Pilate was no friend of the Jews and you
- 2:07can see here that he had many of them killed.
- 2:10And that is what is referenced in this moment.
- 2:13And the people want to know Jesus's thoughts.
- 2:15And what does Jesus say? Three, I tell you no, but except
- 2:23you repent, you shall all likewise perish.
- 2:27So here he's saying that we are not to try to judge these
- 2:30things, but we need to make sure we're right with God.
- 2:33We need to make sure that if we were to breathe our last, that
- 2:37we would be ushered into His presence.
- 2:39And we do not know how much time we have on this earth.
- 2:42We need to make sure that we live every single day as if it's
- 2:46our last day. And that is the key here,
- 2:49friends. He's going to go on to tell them
- 2:52a story. Now for or those 18 upon whom
- 2:57the tower of Siloam fell, and it killed them.
- 3:01Do you think that they were sinners above all men that
- 3:05dwelled in Jerusalem? I tell you no, but except you
- 3:11repent, you shall all likewise perish.
- 3:15You know, the Lord's ways are not our ways.
- 3:20His thoughts are much higher than our thoughts.
- 3:23And we would do well when natural disasters hit to allow
- 3:30God to have the final say and for us not to try to judge what
- 3:38is happening, but to be remorseful for all those that
- 3:43lost their lives, that did not have the indwelling of the Holy
- 3:47Spirit, that were not sealed with the blood of Jesus Christ
- 3:52for all time's sake, for all of eternity, for a billion years
- 3:57over. And it should grieve us when
- 4:02anyone takes their last breath and failed to put their trust
- 4:08and their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. 6 And he spoke
- 4:13also this parable. A certain man had a fig tree
- 4:17planted in his vineyard, and he came in, sought fruit from it,
- 4:22and found none. And then he said unto the
- 4:25dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking
- 4:30fruit on the fig tree, and I find none.
- 4:33Cut it down. Why cumbereth it to the ground?
- 4:398 Any answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year
- 4:43also, until I shall dig about it and dung it. 9 And if it bear
- 4:49fruit, well, and if not, then after that you shall cut it
- 4:53down. So the Lord comes looking for
- 4:59fruit, friends, and he desires for us to be fruitful and live
- 5:04fruitful lives. And it is a natural overflow of
- 5:09a life that is sold out to the Lord Jesus Christ to produce the
- 5:14fruit that he is after. And you can see here some very
- 5:20deep biblical principles of how the Lord looks at us.
- 5:25He desires for us to bear fruit, and he comes and he's looking
- 5:30for that fruit. And if we are not fruitful, we
- 5:34are cut down and cast into the fire.
- 5:37Friends. 10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the
- 5:42Sabbath. 11 And behold, there was a woman which had a spirit
- 5:47of infirmity 18 years, and was bowed together, and could no way
- 5:53lift up herself. 12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to
- 5:58him, and he said unto her, Woman, you are loosed from your
- 6:04infirmity. 13 And he laid his hands on her, and immediately
- 6:10she was made straight and glorified God.
- 6:13Fourteen in the ruler of the synagogue answered with
- 6:16indignation because that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day,
- 6:21and said unto the people, There are 6 days in which men ought to
- 6:27work in them, therefore come and be healed and not on the Sabbath
- 6:32day. This is ridiculous.
- 6:35This synagogue ruler did not have the power to heal and if he
- 6:40had, this woman had not been bound up for 18 years.
- 6:44And here he's saying come and be healed on the other six days.
- 6:47But there was no healing available to her.
- 6:50And Jesus goes all over their man made superstitious religious
- 6:58ceremonial traditions. And he says you are healed.
- 7:06And He says the same thing to you and to me today.
- 7:10He stretches out his hands. He touches you today, friends,
- 7:13and receive your healing today. Do not worry about what other
- 7:19people are going to say or what other people are going to think.
- 7:23Reach out and grab the hem of His garment.
- 7:26Do not let go until He blesses you, until He heals you. 15 The
- 7:34Lord answered him, and said, You hypocrite, does not each one of
- 7:39you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and
- 7:45lead him away to watering? 16 And ought not this woman,
- 7:51being the daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound low these
- 7:5718 years, be loosed from this bomb on the Sabbath day?
- 8:04So we could see that Satan had this woman bound up.
- 8:07We could see that Jesus could see to the root, to the real
- 8:10problem. He could see through it all.
- 8:12He knew that this wasn't just a natural affliction.
- 8:17He knew that Satan had bound her up.
- 8:20He knew that she come carrying in that bondage.
- 8:24He knew that Satan had no place in his presence and it was a
- 8:28natural overflow for him to heal this woman.
- 8:32And we should always assume that God wants to heal.
- 8:35Friends 17 And when he had said these things, all his
- 8:39adversaries were ashamed, and all the people rejoiced for all
- 8:44the glorious things that were done by him.
- 8:47That's what happens when you oppose the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 8:51It only leads to your shame. It only leads to your demise.
- 8:55It only leads to separation from Him.
- 9:03We need to bow low. We need to give him all of
- 9:09ourselves, nothing hidden, nothing held back, and receive
- 9:14our healing. 18 Then he said, Unto what is the Kingdom of God
- 9:21like, and where unto shall I resemble it?
- 9:2519 It's like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and cast
- 9:31to his garden, and it grew and waxed a great tree, and the
- 9:35fowls of the air lodged in his branches of it.
- 9:40So we can see here that Jesus is telling us that this little
- 9:47mustard seed grows up into a big tree.
- 9:50And they would have known that he was talking about the church.
- 9:56They would have known that he was talking about the devil
- 9:59coming and lodging in the church's branches.
- 10:02And you can see that happening today.
- 10:04You can see how all of these false sects have risen up out of
- 10:12the pure tree of Jesus Christ. You can see that there is a lot
- 10:20of false teachings. There is a lot of false
- 10:23doctrine. You can see that there's so many
- 10:27people who have started these different ideas about
- 10:32Christianity, and they attach just enough of the truth to lead
- 10:38many people astray. And those people are in bondage
- 10:41today. They're in bondage to all of the
- 10:46heretical teachings of that sect, and this is what Jesus is
- 10:51referencing at this time. 20 And again he said, wherein to shall
- 10:59I liken the Kingdom of God? 21 It is like leaven, which a
- 11:03woman took and hid in three measures of meal until the whole
- 11:08was leaven. We know that the birds were
- 11:12likened unto Satan coming and grabbing the seed off of the
- 11:16ground. We know that the Levin was the
- 11:20hypocrisy. We know that he is in this
- 11:24moment. He is telling us to be careful
- 11:27of all the hypocrisy and duplicity that is being
- 11:31purported through the church. We need to make sure that we are
- 11:35getting into this book and we're allowing this book to govern our
- 11:39lives. We're allowing the Bible to be
- 11:44the supreme authority over our lives, friends, for every moment
- 11:49of every second of every day. We cannot just rely on a church
- 11:55building on pews and stained glass windows.
- 11:58We cannot rely on a suit and a tie.
- 12:01We cannot rely on the false doctrine and false teachings
- 12:09that are going on and that are abounding right here and right
- 12:14now in our day, in our hour. We must be grounded and rooted
- 12:18in the true Word of God. 22 And he went through the cities and
- 12:23villages teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem.
- 12:27We know that He set his face like a Flint towards Jerusalem.
- 12:31He knew that his time was coming to be sacrificed.
- 12:35He knew that he was the ultimate Passover lamb.
- 12:39He knew the timeline that was given to him. 23 Then said one
- 12:44of Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved?
- 12:52And he said unto them, 24 Strive to enter in at the Strait gate
- 12:58for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in and shall not
- 13:04be able. This straight gate.
- 13:07Jesus Christ is this straight gate and we need to make sure
- 13:13that we are attached and 100% obedient unto the Lord.
- 13:20We need to make sure that this straight gate is the only way,
- 13:25friends, it's the only way in. Jesus said, I am the way, the
- 13:32truth, and the life, and no one comes unto the Father except
- 13:37through me. There are many who nod at Jesus.
- 13:41There are many who tip Jesus. There are many who try to
- 13:45sprinkle Jesus into their life and they think that it's enough.
- 13:49But his way is the straight gate, friends, and only a few
- 13:54find it. 25 When once the master of the house has risen up and
- 14:02has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside, and to knock
- 14:08at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
- 14:13And he shall answer, and say unto you, I know you, not who
- 14:20you are. So here is a very hard passage,
- 14:26friends. This is what's going to happen
- 14:29one day when the door gets shut and there is no more salvation
- 14:34after you take your last breath, friends.
- 14:38And this is one of the hardest passages in all of the Bible,
- 14:46because you can see that there will be many who are trying to
- 14:51get in, but they cannot get in because they did not take the
- 14:55opportunity while they were still living. 20 Then shall you
- 15:04begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in your presence, and you
- 15:10have taught in our streets? 27 But he shall say, I tell you,
- 15:18I know you, not who you are. Depart from me, all you workers
- 15:25of iniquity. Jesus sees right through it.
- 15:28These people didn't want to give their lives to Him whenever He
- 15:33was in their midst. They did not want to give their
- 15:36lives to Him when they were in the world at this time, during
- 15:49the time of grace, when He was showering grace upon them and
- 15:54they had breath in their lungs. They did not want to live for
- 16:00Him. They wanted to live for sin and
- 16:03self and for pleasure and pleasantries.
- 16:06And here He sees what all that is.
- 16:09There's no neutrality. And He calls them workers of
- 16:12iniquity. Friends. 28 There shall be
- 16:18weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you shall see Abraham,
- 16:22Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God,
- 16:26and you yourselves thrust out. There is a chasm.
- 16:31You cannot go to where they are AT.
- 16:35And there is torment, and you are looking at it, and you
- 16:40cannot go to it. What a idea here that Jesus
- 16:46himself, the words in the out of the mouth of Jesus Christ
- 16:50himself. He tells us what it will be
- 16:53like. And we would do well to make
- 16:55sure that we believe every single one of these words.
- 16:58And this isn't just hyperbole. This is not just pragmatic.
- 17:03This is not just a good teaching.
- 17:06This isn't allegorical, friends. This is reality and you would do
- 17:16well to make sure that you are locked in paying attention to
- 17:20what it will be like whenever you take your last breath.
- 17:27It will be too late for you if you have not lived for him and
- 17:32been completely sold out to Him and have given your whole life
- 17:36nothing head and nothing held back to the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 17:42He's worthy of all of your attention and adoration and
- 17:46affection. He's worthy of all the years
- 17:49that you have left on this earth.
- 17:51He's worthy of it. Friends, there was only one
- 17:55found worthy to open the scroll. 29 And they shall come from the
- 18:02east, and from the West, and from the north, and from the
- 18:05South, and shall sit down in the Kingdom of God. 30 And behold,
- 18:12there are, there are last which shall be first, and there are
- 18:16first which shall be last. These are the biblical
- 18:20principles of eternity. It's plain.
- 18:24It's as plain as the nose on your face.
- 18:27It is crystal clear. He tells us exactly to the
- 18:33letter what it will be like. The first shall be last, and the
- 18:38last shall be first. And we can see that He prepares
- 18:42A banquet for us in the presence of our enemies.
- 18:46We can see, friends, how good is our God, how loving is our God.
- 18:53He loves us, and He loves us well. 31 The same day there came
- 18:59certain of the Pharisees saying unto him, Get you out and depart
- 19:05from here, for Herod will kill you.
- 19:09So here these Pharisees are trying to push him out.
- 19:14They are not actually trying to help him.
- 19:19They're trying to get him to go into the jurisdiction where they
- 19:24can do what they want with him. Here He's in here's jurisdiction
- 19:29and they're trying to get him to believe that Herod is going to
- 19:34kill him. And we know that Herod was
- 19:36afraid because he thought of Jesus as John the Baptist rising
- 19:40from the dead. And he had a sin conscience
- 19:43because he killed John the Baptist.
- 19:46And here we know that Herodias was the master manipulator of
- 19:51Herod's life. Let's see what Jesus has to say.
- 19:5632 And he said unto them, Go you and tell that fox.
- 20:01Behold, I cast out devils, I do cures today and tomorrow and the
- 20:07third day I shall be perfected. So here he references his
- 20:12resurrection. Here he says, Go and tell that
- 20:16vixen, and he is directing it towards Herodias here. 23
- 20:25Nevertheless I must walk today and tomorrow and the day
- 20:29following. For it cannot be that a prophet
- 20:32perishes out of Jerusalem. He already knew what he was
- 20:35going to have to do, friends. Nothing took him by surprise. 34
- 20:39Oh, Jerusalem, Jerusalem which kills the prophets and stones
- 20:44them that are sent to you. How often I would have gathered
- 20:49your children together, as a hen does gather her brood under her
- 20:54wings, and you would not. We'll end on. 35 Behold, your
- 21:00house is left unto you desolate. For truly I say unto you, you
- 21:07shall not see me until the time when you shall say, blessed is
- 21:13he that comes in the name of the Lord.
- 21:17Are we there yet, friends? Are we saying, blessed is he
- 21:21that comes in the name of the Lord?
- 21:24Here he's prophesying AD 70, whenever their temple would be
- 21:28destroyed and sacked by the Romans.
- 21:31Here you can see that Jesus's heart was to gather them at this
- 21:35time, but he knew they would reject him.
- 21:37He knew they would kill him. Nothing took him by surprise.
- 21:42How amazing is our Lord Jesus Christ?
- 21:44I hope you've been blessed by this chapter.
- 21:46I know I sure have. I'm praying for you.
- 21:50I love you. We'll see you back here
- 21:54tomorrow. God bless you.
