[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Dog's Podcast, with your hosts, Lake Renaker, Justin Charles, and Josh All.
• 0:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Happy historical NFL Honors Day Browns fans welcome into a quick, very brief microcast here.
• 0:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Dog's Podcast, Josh All, happy Friday.
• 0:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Hope everybody had a great week.
• 0:29
[SPEAKER_01]: It's snowing a freaking in here unbelievable.
• 0:33
[SPEAKER_01]: I am so ready to get out of this season and get into
• 0:36
[SPEAKER_01]: free agency and the draft and all that great stuff that's coming our way on the other side of this dump a snow that's coming down right now last night the Browns made history so I want to just talk about it real quick here on the show.
• 0:53
[SPEAKER_01]: Miles Garrett Carson Swesinger sweeping the categories last night for the Browns of the NFL honors taking home the defensive player of the year award and the defensive rookie of the year we knew.
• 1:05
[SPEAKER_01]: This was going to happen.
• 1:07
[SPEAKER_01]: They were the odds on betting favorites.
• 1:09
[SPEAKER_01]: It was kind of a foregone conclusion that these two were going to win their awards, but still.
• 1:15
[SPEAKER_01]: having it set in stone now in the way it happened.
• 1:19
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to talk about that was just so impressive for these two guys and for the Browns in general.
• 1:24
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is it's a historical night now.
• 1:27
  [SPEAKER_01]: I've looked it up.
• 1:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I've tried to find historical instances in the NFL where the same team has had boat or two players win both.
• 1:38
[SPEAKER_01]: defensive rookie the year and defensive player the year in the same season and the only the only examples I can find 1981 Lawrence Taylor for the New York Giants won both awards himself.
• 1:55
[SPEAKER_01]: So they didn't have two different players when the awards they had one player win both.
• 1:59
[SPEAKER_01]: So that one doesn't compare to what the Browns just did.
• 2:03
[SPEAKER_01]: And the other one, 2003, Ray Lewis won the defense of player of the year, Warden Turrell, Sugs won defensive rookie of the year.
• 2:10
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the only other example I can find is the Ravens in 2003.
• 2:15
[SPEAKER_01]: So right now, 2025, a Cleveland Browns taking home both of these awards.
• 2:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And like I said earlier, the way in which they won the awards is what it was so impressive, honestly.
• 2:27
  [SPEAKER_01]: So miles gear it.
• 2:29
[SPEAKER_01]: But you know what, first of all, let me just go through each player's, uh, right up here that I put together and then we'll talk about the voting and all that kind of stuff.
• 2:40
[SPEAKER_01]: So Miles Garrett, obviously defensive player of the year, we knew this was going to happen.
• 2:45
[SPEAKER_01]: He was a lock for the award, the sack king set the NFL single season record.
• 2:51
[SPEAKER_01]: with 23 sacks, obviously securing that record at the end of the game in the fourth quarter against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in week 18.
• 3:00
[SPEAKER_01]: It's extremely impressive that he was able to do this.
• 3:04
[SPEAKER_01]: And I know a lot of the haters and detractors out there, so I always took him 17 games to do it or whatever.
• 3:10
[SPEAKER_01]: Remember, he did it in far fewer past rush opportunities because
• 3:16
[SPEAKER_01]: in 13 out of 17 games this season and that means the opposing offenses could just stick to the ground game more often they limited the opportunities in which Miles Garrett had to rush the passer.
• 3:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Miles Garrett not only did he leave the league in sacks and set that sack record, he led the league in tackles for loss with 33.
• 3:36
[SPEAKER_01]: 33 tackles for losses the second most all time.
• 3:42
[SPEAKER_01]: in a single season in NFL history.
• 3:45
[SPEAKER_01]: He was a unanimous defensive player of the year.
• 3:48
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is part of that impressive thing.
• 3:49
[SPEAKER_01]: I was talking about earlier, 50 out of 50.
• 3:52
[SPEAKER_01]: All 50 first place votes went to Miles Garrett.
• 3:56
[SPEAKER_01]: No one else got a vote for this award this season.
• 4:00
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the only the second player.
• 4:03
[SPEAKER_01]: to ever win the defense player of the year award by a unanimous vote.
• 4:08
[SPEAKER_01]: The only other player to do it was J. J. Watt for the Houston Texans back in 2014.
• 4:14
[SPEAKER_01]: So Miles Garrett, the second ever unanimous deploy in NFL history.
• 4:20
[SPEAKER_01]: He's only the ninth player to ever win multiple defense player of the year awards in his career.
• 4:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Only nine guys have ever won it more than once think about that.
• 4:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Before now, it was Joe Green, Lawrence Taylor, Mike Singletary, Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Ray Lewis, JJ Wat and Aaron Donald, and of course now the ninth is Miles Garrett, every single name on that list resides in the Hall of Fame in Canton, except for obviously JJ Wat, Aaron Donald and Miles Garrett, because of course they aren't eligible yet to be on the ballot for the Hall of Fame, but make no mistake all nine of these players
• 5:00
[SPEAKER_01]: will be in the Hall of Fame and Miles Garrett will surely be a first ballot Hall of Famer even though apparently nothing's a given anymore with Hall of Fame voting after this year pretty crazy stuff, but regardless, Miles Garrett Hall of Fame career no doubt about it.
• 5:19
  [SPEAKER_01]: Now Carson Swesinger,
• 5:23
[SPEAKER_01]: 156 tackles was the number one leading tackler among all rookies and the number six leading tackler among the entire NFL.
• 5:35
[SPEAKER_01]: He had 11 tackles for loss two and a half sacks and two interceptions to go along with it.
• 5:39
[SPEAKER_01]: 11 tackles for loss is also number one among all rookies.
• 5:44
[SPEAKER_01]: And he was number one among rookies and run stops.
• 5:47
[SPEAKER_01]: So Carson Swesinger was all over the place.
• 5:50
[SPEAKER_01]: We know that as Brown's fans.
• 5:51
  [SPEAKER_01]: We watched the games.
• 5:52
  [SPEAKER_01]: He was amazing.
• 5:53
[SPEAKER_01]: It was incredible what he did this year.
• 5:56
[SPEAKER_01]: And the most impressive stat to me of all of this.
• 6:01
[SPEAKER_01]: The most impressive stat I found was 97.
• 6:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Carson Swesinger played 97 percent of the defensive snaps this season.
• 6:11
[SPEAKER_01]: That is absolutely unreal in today's NFL landscape.
• 6:15
[SPEAKER_01]: The kid had a high ankle sprain at one point this season.
• 6:18
[SPEAKER_01]: He never missed a snap unbelievable.
• 6:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And for Carson Swesinger, again, to go back.
• 6:23
[SPEAKER_01]: Miles Garrett, unanimous 50 out of 51st place votes.
• 6:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: Carson Swesinger?
• 6:27
[SPEAKER_01]: 40 out of 50 together, Miles Garrett and Carson Swesinger had a hundred votes that they were able to acquire throughout the process for these awards and they took home 90 out of 100 votes it's insane.
• 6:41
[SPEAKER_01]: So they did, they pretty much did a clean sweep.
• 6:44
  [SPEAKER_01]: of these categories.
• 6:45
[SPEAKER_01]: It was so awesome and I got to tell you guys it's crazy how many falcons.
• 6:51
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know how I guess it's probably the Kevin's to Fanski higher down there that's got falcons fans linked into my Twitter feed now and everything but I see so many falcons fans last night in this morning.
• 7:01
  [SPEAKER_01]: Craying.
• 7:02
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean just absolutely Pittsburgh Stealer fan crying about James Pierce and Xavier Watts.
• 7:10
[SPEAKER_01]: not winning defensive rookie the year.
• 7:12
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry Carson Swesinger was leaps and bounds better than anybody else this season.
• 7:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Any other defensive rookie including your two players Atlanta.
• 7:22
  [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
• 7:23
  [SPEAKER_01]: I love Xavier Watts.
• 7:24
[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted the Browns adraft him.
• 7:25
[SPEAKER_01]: James Pierce had a nice season, but he's a rotational third down pass rusher.
• 7:30
[SPEAKER_01]: What do you, I'm so, I know he had 10 and a half sacks.
• 7:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, I just talked about Carson sweatshirts here.
• 7:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Six leading tackler in the NFL.
• 7:37
  [SPEAKER_01]: Number one among rookies.
• 7:38
[SPEAKER_01]: All that stuff, plus 97% of the snaps.
• 7:40
[SPEAKER_01]: He was out there every freaking down all season long.
• 7:44
  [SPEAKER_01]: No doubter.
• 7:45
[SPEAKER_01]: the Swiss engineer defensive rookie of the year.
• 7:47
[SPEAKER_01]: So I just want to jump in here and tell you guys all this, I'm not telling you anything you don't know.
• 7:52
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure these two players were phenomenal this year.
• 7:55
[SPEAKER_01]: We expected them to win these awards and now they have achieved it.
• 7:58
[SPEAKER_01]: So congratulations, Miles Garrett Carson, Swiss engineer at the Browns Defense.
• 8:03
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a great way to transition from a less than what I want to say, or less an exciting 20, 25 season where we had to fire our coach.
• 8:15
[SPEAKER_01]: We couldn't score more than 16 for a compointing game.
• 8:18
  [SPEAKER_01]: The offense was terrible.
• 8:20
[SPEAKER_01]: But we have building blocks now heading into 2026 and this is a great transition into the the off season here.
• 8:28
[SPEAKER_01]: We got like I said free agency coming up NFL draft.
• 8:31
[SPEAKER_01]: I got a mock draft 3.0 coming out on Sunday on Super Bowl Sunday.

• 10:08
[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, just as I wrap up the episode, news pops, Jim Schwartz resigns from the Browns.
• 10:14
[SPEAKER_01]: So, as we expected, he wasn't going to be around anyway, next season, but man, there's the news.
• 10:21
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's official.
• 10:22
[SPEAKER_01]: He's walking away from Cleveland.
• 10:23
[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't want to be the DC anymore now that the Browns bypassed him for a head coach, gave the job to Todd Monk and we all know we remember last week whenever the reports came out.
• 10:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Jim Schwartz was notified that he did not get the job.
• 10:35
[SPEAKER_01]: He stormed out of the building burriot told coaches around him.
• 10:38
[SPEAKER_01]: He was coming back and it's like, well That's not a great look and there's probably no coming back from that.
• 10:44
[SPEAKER_01]: I know Mary K was reporting all week That you know, don't don't count Jim Schwartz out just yet.
• 10:50
[SPEAKER_01]: He could still be here the Browns could reconcile with him.
• 10:53
[SPEAKER_01]: This that and the other now come on.
• 10:54
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's the dude
• 10:57
[SPEAKER_01]: He made his stance and it would be very awkward and odd for him to backtrack, you know, just to be the DC and then everything after all that.
• 11:09
[SPEAKER_01]: So he's gone Jim Schwartz out, Brown's looking for a new defense of coordinator.
• 11:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Just want to make sure I dropped that nugget of information before I finished editing this episode and got it out to you guys.
• 11:18
[SPEAKER_01]: So let me know what you think about Jim Schwartz leaving as a defense of coordinator and who you think they should be looking into to replace him.
