- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:08Speaker 2: The world's a big Podkay.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Those young guys tomorrow.
- 0:19Speaker 4: Davis, Keihan, Bote, Douglas. I gotta be able to say
- 0:23Speaker 4: his name. Boutet. I did not witness this, but he
- 0:25Speaker 4: said bootsy booty.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Booty lines up wrong.
- 0:29Speaker 4: He's extra business. He's extra business like, and I'd like
- 0:32Speaker 4: him to block.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Long time listener, but he has a bone to pick
- 0:35Speaker 2: with Evan, although before he picks the Bony says he's
- 0:38Speaker 2: been a great addition to the show.
- 0:39Speaker 5: Just picked.
- 0:41Speaker 2: He actually takes a stand on topics and is willing
- 0:43Speaker 2: to stand up the ball while Fred watches and Glee.
- 0:47Speaker 3: That's accurate, Scott. I don't know if you know, but
- 0:50Speaker 3: Fred just likes every team that wins the title shout out.
- 0:53Speaker 2: If you're on Wi Fi here, I know every site
- 0:55Speaker 2: that you went to.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Really, yeah, you know, through that pornhok stuff I work,
- 1:00Speaker 3: you probably should know.
- 1:00Speaker 2: You're always liked for the show.
- 1:02Speaker 5: In his city. Soal's brain, he was like, holy crap,
- 1:04Speaker 5: did you see that?
- 1:05Speaker 3: But in French, yeah, I.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Call him pig in an urban setting, urban city, so.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I'm not even paying attention to That made me laugh.
- 1:15Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Dunkin.
- 1:20Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:24Speaker 2: at Jollette Stadium, and it's another two hours of Patriots
- 1:28Speaker 2: Unfiltered talking about everything Patriots and everything else going on
- 1:33Speaker 2: in the world. Hayes fires, Hayes Brown, haze out.
- 1:38Speaker 3: There, I know.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, anyway, Uh, tomorrow will be an ota that we
- 1:45Speaker 2: have access to, and Catch twenty two will catch you
- 1:49Speaker 2: up on that right after practice, So look forward to
- 1:52Speaker 2: that tomorrow. But right now, we're still talking about what
- 1:55Speaker 2: we saw on Tuesday and anything else else that's going
- 2:00Speaker 2: on out there.
- 2:01Speaker 4: I think that we'll maybe pick up the Hopkins talk
- 2:03Speaker 4: because it's now officially going to visit the Titans to Hopkins,
- 2:07Speaker 4: so we had a lot of talk about him starting
- 2:09Speaker 4: to take some visits. Now I would say probably the
- 2:13Speaker 4: Titans maybe need him a little more than the Patriots.
- 2:14Speaker 4: I think I saw a stat that Mike Rabel has
- 2:16Speaker 4: more career catches.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Than any receivers on the roster right now, which is
- 2:21Speaker 3: pretty good.
- 2:22Speaker 4: So we'll see I think that's not until next week though,
- 2:25Speaker 4: Is that is that? I think it was next Tuesday.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Yeah, it sounds like he's going to go on a
- 2:28Speaker 5: whole free agency tour.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Oh what would possess you to sign with anybody while
- 2:35Speaker 3: these voluntary things are going on?
- 2:37Speaker 5: Well that that was definitely talked about as well in
- 2:39Speaker 5: one of the reports, and maybe rap sheet or someone
- 2:41Speaker 5: said he's not in any real hurry to get into
- 2:45Speaker 5: mandatory mini camp.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Can't blame him. This guy hasn't practice during the regular seas.
- 2:49Speaker 2: So what if it comes down to the Patriots and
- 2:51Speaker 2: the Titans, and the Patriots get him, does Rabel not show.
- 2:54Speaker 6: Up for.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:57Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll see. I mean I again, I do think that.
- 3:00Speaker 4: I mean the Titans really they really do need them.
- 3:03Speaker 4: I mean, I know, you know, jokes aside, they have
- 3:05Speaker 4: Mac or Tannehill slash Will Levis.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I might pick here.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yes that's just.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Me though, but I wouldn't.
- 3:12Speaker 2: But why is that? I don't because you hate the
- 3:15Speaker 2: Patriot Because I.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Don't think Mac is as good as Tannehill. I thought
- 3:17Speaker 3: that was kind of self evidence.
- 3:18Speaker 5: I think Mac is worse than Tannahill.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I didn't think I didn't think that was a code. No,
- 3:26Speaker 3: I mean I would go to Tennessee for the first reason,
- 3:29Speaker 3: Mike said, because the Titans don't really have anybody. I
- 3:33Speaker 3: mean Jalen Burks, that's about it, right.
- 3:35Speaker 2: But why they still would.
- 3:38Speaker 3: So he could get all the time.
- 3:40Speaker 7: I know.
- 3:40Speaker 2: But they're not going to be good.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Oh well they have doesn't you want to ring Paul? Now,
- 3:46Speaker 3: I don't think that. Now I'm gonna remove myself from
- 3:49Speaker 3: the summer stuff.
- 3:50Speaker 2: No, But but honestly, I don't.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Think the Patriots are gonna be good either.
- 3:52Speaker 2: No, but who's going to be better the Titans of
- 3:54Speaker 2: the Patriots.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I think that's a coin flip.
- 3:57Speaker 5: I don't go Patriots Patriots. So yeah, that Titans quarterback situation.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Say what you will about the Patriots quarterback situation, but.
- 4:05Speaker 3: They got to figure it out. Yeah, because I mean,
- 4:07Speaker 3: obviously Tannehill's on the back nine at best.
- 4:10Speaker 4: But if Will Levis is, you know, they go to
- 4:13Speaker 4: him early and maybe he shows something. Derek Henry stays
- 4:15Speaker 4: healthy and you know, gets rejuvenated a little bit.
- 4:17Speaker 3: They're definitely in a rebuilding phase. They stripped it down.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Tennessee's not going to be very good. Yeah, I don't.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Think what do you think I have has your percentage
- 4:28Speaker 2: has gone up of him coming here, Hopkins.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I still feel like it could happen. I really do.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I just I mean, I think Evan Blade it out
- 4:35Speaker 4: well of just like he's a depreciated asset now, like
- 4:38Speaker 4: he's just he's right in their wheelhouse of you know.
- 4:40Speaker 4: I mean, maybe they're going to have to get into
- 4:42Speaker 4: a little bit of a bidding war with some of
- 4:43Speaker 4: these teams that that. But I don't think that you're
- 4:45Speaker 4: talking about huge money and and I think, like Paul
- 4:48Speaker 4: said on the show on Tuesday, that when he does
- 4:50Speaker 4: sign somewhere, if he does some sign somewhere else there,
- 4:53Speaker 4: I feel like it's inevitable that the money's gonna be.
- 4:55Speaker 4: We couldn't have done that like that. That's that's what
- 4:57Speaker 4: the deal's going to be. So so why not why
- 5:00Speaker 4: not go for him right now and you know, bring
- 5:02Speaker 4: him in and you know, don't you don't have to
- 5:03Speaker 4: cut DeVante Parker the next day. You can let everybody
- 5:06Speaker 4: kind of come in and wait maybe if you want to,
- 5:09Speaker 4: or maybe wait till camp and see how it all
- 5:11Speaker 4: comes together. But I still think it could happen.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I totally agree with you. I think there's I liked
- 5:17Speaker 3: Evans phrase with that depressed asset thing because I think
- 5:20Speaker 3: that is Bill's willhouse. I think that's absolutely accurate, and
- 5:24Speaker 3: I think there's a chance. I just I think I
- 5:26Speaker 3: said this Tuesday. I don't think if we're looking at
- 5:29Speaker 3: it after Hopkins signed somewhere, I don't think people are
- 5:32Speaker 3: going to be saying, well, you know what, that was
- 5:36Speaker 3: too much money. I wouldn't have done it either. I
- 5:37Speaker 3: don't think very many people will say that because I
- 5:39Speaker 3: don't think it's going to be one of these, you know,
- 5:42Speaker 3: twenty million dollar contracts, Like what have they given DeAndre
- 5:45Speaker 3: Hopkins did this? I don't think that's going to happen, right.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Yeah. I think that there's also this narrative out there
- 5:50Speaker 5: that he's ring chasing at this point with like an
- 5:53Speaker 5: elite quarterback, and he's never said that. He's went on
- 5:57Speaker 5: the im Athlete podcast a few weeks ago and he
- 6:00Speaker 5: said he has three prerequisites to what he wants. He
- 6:03Speaker 5: wants a stable organization. He wants a team with a
- 6:06Speaker 5: good defense because he feels like teams with good defenses
- 6:08Speaker 5: are competitive. He said defense wins championships. And he wants
- 6:12Speaker 5: a quarterback who loves ball, not not an elite quarterback.
- 6:15Speaker 5: He actually said it doesn't need to be an elite
- 6:17Speaker 5: quarterback because I've done it without elite quarterbacks. I just
- 6:21Speaker 5: need somebody that really loves football as much as I do.
- 6:23Speaker 5: And those are the three things that he said. And
- 6:26Speaker 5: he's coming to the Patriots, and it does kind of
- 6:29Speaker 5: check a lot of boxes.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Right, say what you will about Mac, but football.
- 6:32Speaker 5: He loves football. They you know, they have Belichick here,
- 6:35Speaker 5: so obviously you think their organization is pretty stable. They
- 6:38Speaker 5: do have a good defense, and so that's why when
- 6:40Speaker 5: a lot of this Titans visit came out, people are like, well,
- 6:43Speaker 5: doesn't he isn't he going to contender? Like, isn't he
- 6:46Speaker 5: going to play with Patrick Mahomes. He He's never actually
- 6:48Speaker 5: said that that's what he's one hundred percent looking for.
- 6:52Speaker 5: So I think that's important to mention because I've seen
- 6:55Speaker 5: that out there.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I think at the end of the day, he's gonna
- 6:58Speaker 2: go where whoever get in the most money.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Well, I think that's what it'll come down to, is
- 7:03Speaker 3: if he doesn't have a chance to go to a contender,
- 7:06Speaker 3: it's going to be the most money, right I could,
- 7:09Speaker 3: I don't I agree with you, Fred, they almost always
- 7:11Speaker 3: take the most money.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yeah, but I.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Could see a scenario where he says, I'll take a
- 7:15Speaker 3: few million less to sign with Patrick Mahomes and have
- 7:18Speaker 3: a chance to win. Then I will with Mike Rabel
- 7:21Speaker 3: and not really have a chance to win. I could
- 7:23Speaker 3: see that.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I did. I should say too. I saw a
- 7:25Speaker 4: report I forget who said it exactly, but said that
- 7:27Speaker 4: that Cleveland seemed kind of unlikely right now. So that
- 7:30Speaker 4: was the one team I got America Tuesday that you know,
- 7:32Speaker 4: might might have been in the running. And now all
- 7:34Speaker 4: of a sudden, here comes Tennessee. So we'll see where
- 7:36Speaker 4: else he goes.
- 7:36Speaker 2: And what ends up.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I took the third part of Evans thing with that
- 7:40Speaker 3: podcast to be just a complete rocket shot at Kyler Murray.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I was just writing.
- 7:45Speaker 3: That's all I was thinking. I wasn't really thinking about
- 7:47Speaker 3: any of the other thirty one quarterbacks. I thought that
- 7:49Speaker 3: was a not so veiled shot to say because the
- 7:52Speaker 3: guy I just got finished playing for it doesn't care
- 7:54Speaker 3: about football.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Vote yeah like Madden.
- 7:57Speaker 5: He also, I mean he did list like he was
- 7:59Speaker 5: asked on the same podcast, what quarterbacks would you want
- 8:02Speaker 5: to play? With and he did list like all the
- 8:03Speaker 5: best quarterbacks in the league. But what was he supposed
- 8:05Speaker 5: to say, Oh, I know, yeah, I'm gonna go play
- 8:07Speaker 5: with will Levis, Right, it'd be a lot of fun,
- 8:09Speaker 5: like you know.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Like Wilson back in all than the Jets, right right.
- 8:13Speaker 5: But he's a I don't think that he's one of
- 8:15Speaker 5: those people that necessarily feels like, oh, I need a
- 8:18Speaker 5: ring before I retire. It doesn't seem like that all
- 8:21Speaker 5: the time.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Really think fans would be really surprised with how little
- 8:25Speaker 3: that factors in all.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Right, over under sixty percent chance he comes to New England.
- 8:30Speaker 5: Over over, I'm under sixty under sixty under sixty one.
- 8:35Speaker 5: I'd put it at thirty seven and a half percent.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Push push, I mean there is thirty one teams like
- 8:42Speaker 3: I don't say sixty percent for the Patriots.
- 8:44Speaker 5: That's I like to use. His confidence seems high. The
- 8:46Speaker 5: streets are whispering, they're talking.
- 8:48Speaker 3: And he knows that. I mean, he's got his zeror nowhere,
- 8:52Speaker 3: so Belichick my head Belichick's office, he.
- 8:55Speaker 5: Can I texted Deuced yesterday. I was like, the streets
- 8:56Speaker 5: are talking a little bit about.
- 8:58Speaker 4: This little buzz, little buzz Evans on tax the blogs.
- 9:01Speaker 3: You see him at the Hurts counter. Boys, there's what
- 9:05Speaker 3: it would almost work.
- 9:06Speaker 2: It was almost the Patriots Region blog or something like that.
- 9:10Speaker 3: This is what it is, your boys, your people people.
- 9:13Speaker 3: How long they're still my people here? Now I'm here.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Once a blogger, always more, were always in the club. Yeah.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Fair enough, fair enough, fair enough. But none of those
- 9:24Speaker 4: people I heard.
- 9:24Speaker 3: But I don't know. I just have this. I just
- 9:26Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm gonna have to be nice with
- 9:28Speaker 3: those people. I have a feeling my son's going to
- 9:29Speaker 3: become one of them in about three years.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Are you going to be penning it?
- 9:33Speaker 8: No?
- 9:34Speaker 2: Under his name?
- 9:35Speaker 5: Okay, just a little chatter, that's all all right?
- 9:38Speaker 2: What else? What else do we got?
- 9:40Speaker 5: Dalvin Cook?
- 9:41Speaker 2: Alvin Cook Hook?
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it's kind of weird.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Know why why pay what?
- 9:45Speaker 5: Running running back money?
- 9:48Speaker 4: What he wants a new contract? Is this the last
- 9:49Speaker 4: year of a steal?
- 9:50Speaker 3: I believe that was the case. He was looking for more.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I mean, I know they're tight against the cap, but
- 9:55Speaker 3: it doesn't make any sense to me for a team
- 9:57Speaker 3: that has aspirations. Yeah, and to me, the NFC is
- 10:01Speaker 3: wide open, right Yeah?
- 10:03Speaker 4: And I saw they were just gonna flip it to
- 10:04Speaker 4: Alexander Matson. I guess who's gonna just take over for him?
- 10:07Speaker 4: But running backs, I don't don't. I don't see really
- 10:10Speaker 4: any need for him here.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Hatred Social released another clip of Christian Gonzales one handed catch.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I was I was going to bring up
- 10:21Speaker 4: the Key on White one from last week where he
- 10:22Speaker 4: just like destroyed a blocking machine.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Too, Like when I was like, I was like, oh,
- 10:26Speaker 3: the Gonzales one, I could at least see, like, Wow,
- 10:29Speaker 3: he's a really big guy who is so fluid, like
- 10:32Speaker 3: his athleticism shines through. We all agree a little too
- 10:37Speaker 3: much was made up the clip, but at least you
- 10:39Speaker 3: could see, wow, this is six or three guy that
- 10:41Speaker 3: really moves well. The Key on White one he hit
- 10:43Speaker 3: a blocking sled and people lost their mind. I mean,
- 10:47Speaker 3: I wouldn't want to be that blocking set. He looked
- 10:49Speaker 3: pretty mad.
- 10:49Speaker 4: I know, I know you're making the most of what
- 10:51Speaker 4: you can right now, but I'm really intrigued by Key
- 10:53Speaker 4: on White now. I mean, I just, I mean, have
- 10:55Speaker 4: we really even seen him hand down in the dirt
- 10:57Speaker 4: like kind of working through the d line.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I all, I've really seed.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Him do his play outside linebacker right now. So I
- 11:02Speaker 4: just I really wonder if that's the design on him.
- 11:05Speaker 5: I don't want to say outside linebacker.
- 11:07Speaker 4: I know that's what and that's why I'm like, I'm
- 11:08Speaker 4: looking at like high tower, you know, like I just
- 11:10Speaker 4: like that that's the closest kind of like body type.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I think I'm very high in this front seven, very
- 11:15Speaker 2: high in this front seven.
- 11:16Speaker 3: I wouldn't ve too much into I think that that
- 11:19Speaker 3: we talked about it, Fred, I think you do the
- 11:22Speaker 3: thing that if they don't know how to do first, yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 3: to see if that's part of you know, to use
- 11:26Speaker 3: Evans in this bag, I totally get it.
- 11:29Speaker 4: But I just it's something I'm going to be watching
- 11:31Speaker 4: every practice next week. Is just you know, do they
- 11:33Speaker 4: even at all, like I mean, even because I think
- 11:35Speaker 4: we all assume that on passing downs till till he'll
- 11:38Speaker 4: be hand down somewhere in the ground probably, you know,
- 11:40Speaker 4: But I just I look at what they have Anthony Jennings,
- 11:43Speaker 4: you know, probably their best after Jude on outside linebacker,
- 11:46Speaker 4: run stopper kind of guy, and.
- 11:47Speaker 3: There's just not a lot of depth there.
- 11:48Speaker 4: So I could just I could see the opportunity for him.
- 11:51Speaker 4: We all thought that get right out there and yeah,
- 11:53Speaker 4: you know.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean definitely allow judea On to maybe tee
- 11:57Speaker 5: off on the backside and not have to worry about
- 12:00Speaker 5: holding the point of attack and playing the tight end
- 12:02Speaker 5: side of the strong side of the formation. If you
- 12:05Speaker 5: have another guy that's heavy handed that can play that
- 12:07Speaker 5: side and allow jude On to kind of play that
- 12:09Speaker 5: designated pass rusher on the backside, and then you bring
- 12:12Speaker 5: Ooja in on third down like that, that could be
- 12:15Speaker 5: the formula for them moving forward. Can we talk a
- 12:18Speaker 5: little bit about the the rookie receivers, because I don't
- 12:21Speaker 5: want to like get too much on the rookie receivers
- 12:24Speaker 5: last names. I've been a little disappointed. I'm not gonna lie.
- 12:27Speaker 5: We've only seen two practices. I'm not trying to overreact
- 12:30Speaker 5: or anything. But we get this question probably more than
- 12:32Speaker 5: any other question, like into the mail bag and things
- 12:34Speaker 5: like that, like give us, give us Booty updates, give
- 12:37Speaker 5: us to Douglas updates. Booty in particular, have been a
- 12:39Speaker 5: little underwhelmed, a little bit underwhelmed.
- 12:42Speaker 4: I have two I think one thing positive that stood
- 12:45Speaker 4: out to me, and this was last week. I was
- 12:46Speaker 4: standing out in front of the radio studio and he
- 12:49Speaker 4: walked by and it was the first time, like we
- 12:51Speaker 4: talked about getting a glimpse of body types. Son, Yeah,
- 12:53Speaker 4: that was one thing that I was like, he's got
- 12:54Speaker 4: a little more thickness to him, Like he doesn't just
- 12:57Speaker 4: just on the hoof. Doesn't look like that guy's a
- 12:59Speaker 4: slot receiver, like he just he's got a little bit
- 13:00Speaker 4: of thickness to him. But I agree with your point.
- 13:02Speaker 4: I mean they had an opportunity last practice without all
- 13:05Speaker 4: those receivers there. Max still went to the tight ends
- 13:08Speaker 4: I think most of the time.
- 13:10Speaker 5: So it just I don't think either one of those
- 13:12Speaker 5: guys and Will and I'm really looking at him next week,
- 13:16Speaker 5: right I think that's really the big week for them.
- 13:19Speaker 5: I don't think either one of those guys have done
- 13:20Speaker 5: anything to make a roster push yet, and I think
- 13:23Speaker 5: it's really early and they're, like Bill said, they're drinking
- 13:26Speaker 5: through a fire hose right now, especially at that position.
- 13:28Speaker 5: But Douglass maybe that first OTA practice he caught some
- 13:32Speaker 5: passes like underneath the defense out of the slot, just
- 13:34Speaker 5: little dump offs and things like that. But Booty's really
- 13:38Speaker 5: done nothing. And then he got chewed out by the
- 13:40Speaker 5: coaches for being in the wrong spot the other day.
- 13:42Speaker 5: So I'm hoping to see a little bit more out
- 13:45Speaker 5: of those two guys, because you do, you got to
- 13:46Speaker 5: see something tangible to put them on the roster. You
- 13:49Speaker 5: g're not gonna just throw them on the on the
- 13:51Speaker 5: roster just because of they were drafted and their receivers,
- 13:55Speaker 5: you know.
- 13:56Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, So, like I said, tomorrow will have
- 14:00Speaker 2: full access OTA, uh and then Monday, Tuesday and perhaps
- 14:04Speaker 2: Wednesday if they keep it full access mandatory mini camp.
- 14:09Speaker 2: So that'll be interesting. Everybody has to be there unless
- 14:12Speaker 2: you're injured.
- 14:12Speaker 3: And we will do fred Pu shows throughout the mini camp.
- 14:17Speaker 3: That's right. Tuesday, Wednesday will have live mini camp radio shows.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Unfortunately, we don't have the time of the practice yet. No,
- 14:26Speaker 2: do you think they'll keep it eleven thirty.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I think they'll keep nine thirty to eleven thirty and
- 14:30Speaker 4: we'll probably be but they haven't been nine thirty. No.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Usually mini camp is is this time like where we
- 14:35Speaker 5: have the OTA practices, like eleven okay one.
- 14:38Speaker 2: You think, oh, you think it'll be eleven to one eleven.
- 14:40Speaker 3: So we have differing opinions.
- 14:42Speaker 5: I think. So that's what it was last year, right.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I thought it was nine thirty, No idea.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I didn't remember that. We did radio shows last year.
- 14:48Speaker 9: I swear to god, I thought it was I thought,
- 14:50Speaker 9: I usually I don't know Vigen for you, you're CTE previagon,
- 14:57Speaker 9: so we don't know what time, but whatever.
- 14:58Speaker 6: That things about that, Yeah, as soon as we know
- 15:02Speaker 6: the time of the practice, we'll get it out there,
- 15:05Speaker 6: because that's when we'll start our show about fifteen minutes
- 15:08Speaker 6: before practice and go through practice.
- 15:11Speaker 4: We'll be on the side of the stadium.
- 15:14Speaker 2: We'll be up in the ring.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Yeah, that's where you guys insisted that you wanted to be,
- 15:18Speaker 3: making sure I was voted on that.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Why where do you want to be, Paul?
- 15:22Speaker 3: I thought if we could go down like where we
- 15:25Speaker 3: used to do it in the bleachers. Yeah, well, the
- 15:28Speaker 3: people themselves aren't there right now, but we could set
- 15:31Speaker 3: something up on that hill. But everybody else wanted to
- 15:34Speaker 3: be up top, So the top it is.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I like being up there. It's a good view. You
- 15:40Speaker 2: can speak freely without other media people hearing you. That's
- 15:45Speaker 2: a very good point. Yeah, they won't steal your takes, right,
- 15:49Speaker 2: and they.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Have to go back and listen to the podcast and
- 15:51Speaker 3: then they steal.
- 15:51Speaker 2: It right right, you know, so they can grouse and
- 15:55Speaker 2: we don't have to hear them.
- 15:56Speaker 3: I just have a hard time to seeing from their
- 15:57Speaker 3: Grandpa can't see that. Why binoculars, I know, I got
- 16:00Speaker 3: to buy something that kind of money.
- 16:02Speaker 4: I got two pairs of bump binoculars in my house
- 16:04Speaker 4: like that have both been dropped. And I'm like, do
- 16:05Speaker 4: you have fixed binoculars? Do you just buy new binoculars?
- 16:08Speaker 5: Like I would just go down the bass pro I would.
- 16:12Speaker 5: I might go over there to that buy some bush Nelson.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Well that's what I had until I until that Miami
- 16:16Speaker 4: game last year. I dropped them off in the press
- 16:18Speaker 4: box off the colledge and we were so.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Excited that we finally beat Miami.
- 16:22Speaker 4: So we did it, and Paul's like, to it didn't play,
- 16:26Speaker 4: you know.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Shut up, Paul. It wasn't a jerk. Thompson and then
- 16:32Speaker 3: Teddy Bridgewater right like, get hurt. We'll get them. We'll
- 16:35Speaker 3: get them one of these days.
- 16:36Speaker 4: We'll get them one of these days.
- 16:38Speaker 2: All right? Eight five five pass five hundred is the
- 16:40Speaker 2: ACE ticket hotline web radio at Patriots dot com is
- 16:44Speaker 2: the email address. I do want to mention. I was
- 16:47Speaker 2: asked to mention UH June ninth, which is tomorrow, right,
- 16:51Speaker 2: that represents uh six months out for the Army Navy
- 16:55Speaker 2: game Saturday, which is actually going to be played here
- 16:58Speaker 2: at Gillette Stadium this year. It's the first time ever
- 17:03Speaker 2: in New England that it's been played in. It's the
- 17:08Speaker 2: only Chicago in nineteen thirty six in Pasadena in nineteen
- 17:13Speaker 2: eighty three has a game been played outside the mid
- 17:16Speaker 2: Atlantic States. So this is kind of a big thing
- 17:20Speaker 2: to have Army Navy in New England, you know. So
- 17:25Speaker 2: it's the one hundred and twenty fourth game in the series
- 17:27Speaker 2: started in eighteen ninety. I'm looking at my notes here.
- 17:32Speaker 2: The teams have met annually all but five years since then,
- 17:35Speaker 2: and in every season since nineteen thirty. So really cool.
- 17:41Speaker 3: So, Fred, you make fun of me a lot for
- 17:43Speaker 3: being like the jaded old guy that done all these
- 17:45Speaker 3: things and you don't get excited about anything anymore. Right, Yeah,
- 17:48Speaker 3: that's is that accurate? Like, you know, we have OTA
- 17:51Speaker 3: on Friday, and I'm like, yeah, these OTAs are the
- 17:55Speaker 3: Army Navy game. I'm jacked up, jacked up for that,
- 17:57Speaker 3: I am. I think that like the pageantry that goes
- 18:00Speaker 3: to now it's The ironic part of it is I
- 18:03Speaker 3: can't stand watching that style of football. They're both, they're both,
- 18:07Speaker 3: they're both gonna play. Sorry, it's an all smash mouth
- 18:10Speaker 3: like you know, triple option football, back and forth of
- 18:12Speaker 3: each other, and that's not really what I want to watch.
- 18:14Speaker 3: But for whatever reason it it doesn't offend me watching
- 18:19Speaker 3: them play. Just how hard both teams go after each other.
- 18:24Speaker 3: It means so much to both both institutions. And like
- 18:28Speaker 3: I said, the pageantry that's in the stands, I can't wait.
- 18:32Speaker 3: I'm gonna do everything in my power to be here
- 18:34Speaker 3: that day. I know both of my kids want to
- 18:36Speaker 3: be here that day. I think that's a really cool
- 18:39Speaker 3: event that we're bringing here.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm sure, Like if you're listening and you're,
- 18:43Speaker 2: you know, within airshot of Foxborough, the question is, you know,
- 18:47Speaker 2: can I get tickets? In the answers, No, Unfortunately it's
- 18:51Speaker 2: sold out. Army Navy sold out their tickets the earliest
- 18:55Speaker 2: they've sold out, and they say that this first game
- 18:59Speaker 2: in New England has created three times the normal ticket demand.
- 19:02Speaker 2: So yeah, but the but there'll be a lot of
- 19:05Speaker 2: cool things going on if you want to kind of
- 19:07Speaker 2: get the flavor of Patriots Place. We'll have a whole
- 19:10Speaker 2: bunch of stuff going on, you know, leading up to
- 19:13Speaker 2: the game.
- 19:14Speaker 10: Uh.
- 19:14Speaker 2: There'll be merchandise in the you can go to New
- 19:18Speaker 2: England Army Navy Game Store dot com New England Army
- 19:22Speaker 2: Navy Game Store dot com and there's a whole bunch
- 19:25Speaker 2: of Army Navy uh merchandise, you know, specific to the
- 19:29Speaker 2: game being here. There's gonna be a fan festival Thursday
- 19:32Speaker 2: and Friday before the game. You don't have to have tickets,
- 19:36Speaker 2: just come. You know. There's gonna be all kinds of
- 19:40Speaker 2: stuff going on uh in Boston by the US Constitution
- 19:44Speaker 2: and Bunker Hill. They'll be like Patriots Games presented by
- 19:47Speaker 2: us A A. Uh so the Cadets and the Midshipman
- 19:51Speaker 2: like competing all this off field stuff. There's gonna be
- 19:54Speaker 2: a PEP rally at Fanuel Hall on December ninth, that Friday.
- 19:59Speaker 2: H So there's a whole bunch of stuff going on.
- 20:03Speaker 2: So even if you can't go to the game, you
- 20:06Speaker 2: can kind of get into the excitement and then go
- 20:09Speaker 2: home and watch it on TV.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I was just gonna highlight I wasn't aware of this.
- 20:12Speaker 4: On Saturday, they have the march on, which they say
- 20:15Speaker 4: is one of the greatest traditions in college sports. Is
- 20:17Speaker 4: not aware of the brigade of midshipman in the Court
- 20:19Speaker 4: of Cadets march onto the field in formation that takes
- 20:22Speaker 4: place at noon on Saturday. I mean, that must be
- 20:24Speaker 4: something pretty cool to see, to see those guys, you know,
- 20:26Speaker 4: all it wants coming in.
- 20:27Speaker 3: So lots going on.
- 20:29Speaker 2: So they're saying for more information, you can go to
- 20:32Speaker 2: Gelletts Stadium dot com slash Army Navy and they'll have
- 20:36Speaker 2: all this info on it. So if you're you know,
- 20:38Speaker 2: I didn't expect you to take notes, but Gelettstadium dot
- 20:42Speaker 2: com slash Army Navy and you can get all the
- 20:47Speaker 2: stuff that I just talked about. Due's talked about.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Do you think Bill's gonna be screwing with the army
- 20:51Speaker 4: guys a little bit like Gatorade war and Gateorade that
- 20:53Speaker 4: kind of stuff with the armies.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that could be. Yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 5: I mean he's got to be part of the pregame, right,
- 20:58Speaker 5: I mean, I.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Might imagine him and car don't know, they're probably.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Maybe And that weekend the Patriots play on the Thursday night, Uh,
- 21:06Speaker 3: that NFL week So they'll play on Thursday. Nancy have
- 21:08Speaker 3: a couple of days you know on wine from that Saturday.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Doesn't see on Sunday. No, No, something tells me that
- 21:15Speaker 3: wasn't by.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's you know, never before in New England
- 21:21Speaker 2: the Army Navy game, because it's you know, it's not
- 21:24Speaker 2: just the game. You know, you're bringing up all the midshipment,
- 21:27Speaker 2: all the cadets. You've got to transport them up here.
- 21:30Speaker 2: And so it's understandable why they kind of stayed close
- 21:33Speaker 2: to you know, Annapolis and you know, uh, West West Point.
- 21:38Speaker 5: It's usually in Philly.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Yeah, Philly and Baltimore a lot. But yeah, I mean
- 21:44Speaker 3: it's not that much different in DC.
- 21:46Speaker 4: A couple of years ago when the Patriots are playing
- 21:48Speaker 4: there like afterwards or something.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Like they play in D in the last.
- 21:52Speaker 5: I maybe like the Veeper or even Biden themselves might.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Come, I don't know, but usually they don't announce that
- 21:59Speaker 2: until the day of, so that, you know, crazy people
- 22:03Speaker 2: can't plan, you know, crazy things.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Yeah, just see the what is the Air Force too?
- 22:07Speaker 4: Come come fight in with with the craft heils out there.
- 22:09Speaker 5: Yeah, we got a helicopter pad.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Don't worry, right, come right, in so that that's cool.
- 22:15Speaker 2: So happy to announce, you know, give some information about that.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Very cool. All right, So back to uh, Patriots football
- 22:23Speaker 2: what we got, But we should mention like this haze
- 22:27Speaker 2: that's going around, like it's finally starting to hit here.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I was wondering why New York was getting hit before
- 22:33Speaker 2: us because we're north of New York. But I guess
- 22:36Speaker 2: the way it went went south. Yeah, it went south
- 22:38Speaker 2: and then it's coming back up.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:40Speaker 4: I think it's supposed to clear up tomorrow a little bit.
- 22:43Speaker 4: My son's in Washington right now. It's terrible there today.
- 22:46Speaker 4: The pictures from New York yesterday were crazy. But I
- 22:48Speaker 4: saw some of the teams, Philadelphia being one, moved there
- 22:51Speaker 4: practice inside because of it, I mean for good reason.
- 22:54Speaker 3: I mean it looks terrible.
- 22:56Speaker 4: I mean I think it's what was the word that
- 22:58Speaker 4: they were, I mean, it's, you know, like hazardous.
- 23:00Speaker 3: And there were a lot of definition professional games in
- 23:04Speaker 3: different and various sports that were canceled. I thought it
- 23:06Speaker 3: was odd that some indoor games were canceled.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah, don't they have filters on their air conditioning and all?
- 23:11Speaker 3: That's the w NBA game. I think there was supposed
- 23:14Speaker 3: to be played in New York was canceled. I mean
- 23:16Speaker 3: obviously the I think the Yankees and Mets both were out.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I think the.
- 23:19Speaker 5: Nationals today the National.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Fit and I think the Phillies may have been blame.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Canada Flame Freddy Freddy at the media yesterday.
- 23:29Speaker 4: The first thing I thought it was a catchy jingle,
- 23:31Speaker 4: you know.
- 23:31Speaker 5: Yeah, it's Canada's fault.
- 23:33Speaker 2: So yeah, so that's going on.
- 23:36Speaker 4: It was like California, we had them there. I mean
- 23:37Speaker 4: that was it was actually like, I mean, not consistent,
- 23:40Speaker 4: but you know, from time to time, it's definitely happens
- 23:43Speaker 4: out there in LA. Remember smelling, I mean that was
- 23:45Speaker 4: like smoking the air. Yeah, I remember smoke, not just
- 23:47Speaker 4: like dirty air.
- 23:48Speaker 5: The one time that we had one that was really bad.
- 23:50Speaker 5: When I was out there, we were only a couple
- 23:52Speaker 5: of miles from the evacuation line. So my my parents
- 23:56Speaker 5: and me, I we were like calling relatives that were
- 23:59Speaker 5: like not in like you know, downtown on an LA
- 24:01Speaker 5: area that maybe I could go stay with for like
- 24:03Speaker 5: a couple of days. And uh, you could just see
- 24:06Speaker 5: the sky was like the it was the color of fire,
- 24:09Speaker 5: like the whole sky just like lights up like an
- 24:11Speaker 5: orange like pink was.
- 24:13Speaker 3: That one, like the side of the four five right
- 24:14Speaker 3: near the Getty went up.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's just it's the sky is the craziest
- 24:19Speaker 5: part to me. It's just it looks like you're you're
- 24:22Speaker 5: in a you know, inferno. You know it's it's.
- 24:25Speaker 4: New York's crazy yesterday look post apocalyptic film.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Yeah, somebody did a really good job. You could see
- 24:31Speaker 2: the Chrysler building in the foreground or the Empire in
- 24:34Speaker 2: the foreground, the Chrysler in the background, and next to
- 24:36Speaker 2: it is Godzilla and because of the haze like it
- 24:40Speaker 2: it would it just right. Yeah, it just looked perfect scary.
- 24:45Speaker 4: I hope they get get that all out of out
- 24:47Speaker 4: of here and out over the ocean and process so
- 24:49Speaker 4: we can have our clean air again.
- 24:50Speaker 5: It's a big fan, Yeah, big fan.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Do we have that?
- 24:53Speaker 4: Does any have one of those? Is there any anything
- 24:55Speaker 4: or you can do? Can we call him the weather machine?
- 24:57Speaker 3: Does that smoke? All?
- 24:59Speaker 2: Right?
- 24:59Speaker 10: Eight?
- 24:59Speaker 2: Five five, that's five hundred is the A's ticket Hotline.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Let's go to the phone see what people are thinking
- 25:05Speaker 2: about Patty's inn ago on what's up Patty? Patty?
- 25:12Speaker 11: So I may be in the minority here, but I
- 25:17Speaker 11: I think I made it pretty clear before, like you know,
- 25:20Speaker 11: early on in the off season that maybe it's the
- 25:23Speaker 11: age about DeAndre Hopkins or the fact that he lost that.
- 25:27Speaker 11: You know, everyone's saying they might have lost this step.
- 25:29Speaker 11: But I mean, do we really want to like invest
- 25:33Speaker 11: at least like two years into this guy if he
- 25:35Speaker 11: might be toast? I'm just looking at it kind of
- 25:38Speaker 11: from a perspective where I was a few years ago
- 25:40Speaker 11: with Julio Jones, Like I know that a lot of
- 25:44Speaker 11: Patriots fans wanted to see Julio Jones come to Fox, Bro,
- 25:47Speaker 11: but I think I was in the minority then that maybe.
- 25:50Speaker 2: The guys, well, well that's the thing that you know, Okay,
- 25:54Speaker 2: so let's qualify, you know, the stage of his career.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I think he's far from toast. Is he in his prime?
- 26:01Speaker 1: No?
- 26:02Speaker 2: Is? Would he be probably one of the best receivers
- 26:05Speaker 2: in this team right away? Yes? So is it worth paying, like,
- 26:10Speaker 2: look it up, is it worth paying like fifteen sixteen
- 26:13Speaker 2: million dollars this year to have a better receiver than
- 26:18Speaker 2: what you currently have? I think it is. I think
- 26:21Speaker 2: it is.
- 26:21Speaker 5: It's a risker word thing, like it might blow up
- 26:24Speaker 5: in your face. It might be a bad contractor might
- 26:26Speaker 5: be a bad move, but the upside.
- 26:28Speaker 2: If it doesn't work back to where you were, You're
- 26:30Speaker 2: not giving up anything to accept money. You're not giving
- 26:33Speaker 2: up any assets to get him, So why not?
- 26:35Speaker 3: So that was two years ago, right for Julio Jones.
- 26:40Speaker 3: It was heading into the twenty one season, so his
- 26:42Speaker 3: last year in Atlanta, he caught fifty one passes for
- 26:45Speaker 3: seven hundred and seventy one yards and three touchdowns.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Literally the same production.
- 26:49Speaker 3: So it's a very similar year that that happen, and
- 26:53Speaker 3: he missed time because he always misses time, Julio Jones.
- 26:57Speaker 3: And then he dropped down to thirty one catches before
- 27:00Speaker 3: thirty four, and then he dropped to twenty four for
- 27:02Speaker 3: two ninety nine last year in Tampa. So, cousin, Patty's
- 27:06Speaker 3: not The comparison is not terrible, right, They're both great,
- 27:12Speaker 3: great receivers, right, No one would say anything bad about
- 27:16Speaker 3: Julio Jones and.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Is more down the field than Hopkins.
- 27:21Speaker 5: Sure, yeah, yeah, Julio was a specimen like explosive specimen.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I think Julio was better than Oh in his prime.
- 27:28Speaker 3: I agree, But I think they're both extremely physical, big
- 27:36Speaker 3: and durable receivers that have been highly productive throughout their career.
- 27:42Speaker 3: And I'm just looking now, Evan, he played in nine
- 27:46Speaker 3: games last his last year in Atlanta, he played in
- 27:51Speaker 3: nine games. So it's literally the same, literally the same.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I don't think Patty's way off. Now, that doesn't mean
- 27:57Speaker 3: that they're both going to do the same thing. You know.
- 28:00Speaker 3: That's what happened to Julio Jones, right, jo Jones was older.
- 28:04Speaker 3: I think looks like he's been How many years is
- 28:06Speaker 3: Hopkins played this is?
- 28:08Speaker 5: Uh? Oh man eleven or twelve? Yeah, I want to
- 28:11Speaker 5: say eleven?
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yeah, how old is he?
- 28:14Speaker 5: Thirty one?
- 28:15Speaker 8: Oh?
- 28:15Speaker 2: God? Yeah, bingo, same beings, thanks, Patty.
- 28:19Speaker 5: I just think it's worth the risk. Hey, whether it were.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Jones Jones was thirty one that year in Atlanta that
- 28:25Speaker 3: he caught the same amount, you know, basically had the
- 28:28Speaker 3: same production as Hopkins.
- 28:29Speaker 4: I was just wonder if you know, Julio Jones more athletic,
- 28:33Speaker 4: more to fall down from, whereas Hopkins has kind of
- 28:36Speaker 4: gotten by not being the fastest guy. And I mean
- 28:38Speaker 4: at least he has some kind of concept of I'm
- 28:41Speaker 4: just faster and bigger than everybody, And you know, when
- 28:43Speaker 4: that starts to go with a guy like you know
- 28:45Speaker 4: Jones like then it's more difficult, it's a more precipitous
- 28:48Speaker 4: decline than you know, hopefully.
- 28:50Speaker 3: I mean, Hawkins can happen.
- 28:51Speaker 2: To compare, would you you know, I'm not saying they're
- 28:54Speaker 2: exactly the same, but would you compare ju Julio Jones
- 28:56Speaker 2: more to Calvin Johnson and Hopkins more to an Kwon Bolden.
- 29:05Speaker 4: A little bit? I think so A little bit not crazy.
- 29:07Speaker 4: I mean, I think Bolden was a little bigger and
- 29:09Speaker 4: you know, a little more physical than then. But but
- 29:11Speaker 4: I think generally kind of the roles probably.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Say, yeah, I look at things a little different the
- 29:15Speaker 3: way that Mike just explained it. I think the guy
- 29:18Speaker 3: who's really athletic and then slows down, if he has
- 29:21Speaker 3: those other kinds of traits, can find ways to continue
- 29:25Speaker 3: to be productive Larry Fitzgerald. Which is when Ankwon Bolden did.
- 29:27Speaker 3: An Kwon Bolden was ridiculously athletic when he entered the league.
- 29:31Speaker 3: He didn't run a blazing fast forty time. He never did,
- 29:35Speaker 3: but he I think his first game in the NFL
- 29:37Speaker 3: he had like over two hundred yards receiving his very
- 29:40Speaker 3: first game, but then he lost a step but had
- 29:44Speaker 3: other things to fall back on.
- 29:45Speaker 2: He was a good route runner, and he used his
- 29:47Speaker 2: body well.
- 29:47Speaker 3: I think sometimes when you don't enter with that high
- 29:50Speaker 3: end athleticism and then you lose a step. I don't
- 29:55Speaker 3: care how much savvy you have, it's hard to fall
- 29:57Speaker 3: back on something because now you just you don't separate.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Now I would, I would still, I would make this move.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I'm with these these guys on Hopkins. I'm not gonna
- 30:07Speaker 3: sit there and tell you what changes my overall opinion
- 30:09Speaker 3: of where the team can go or anything like that.
- 30:11Speaker 3: But I think he's better. I think you guys said
- 30:14Speaker 3: it very simply on Tuesday. He would be the best
- 30:16Speaker 3: receiver you have. And for that reason, I'm in. Yeah,
- 30:20Speaker 3: Like I'm all for trying to make my team better.
- 30:22Speaker 3: I think he would make the team better.
- 30:24Speaker 5: I just don't. I just also just not to pick
- 30:26Speaker 5: on Patty, but like, like the money just doesn't. I
- 30:28Speaker 5: don't care money than I It's it's the money and
- 30:33Speaker 5: the salary cap. Like if the contract ends up blowing
- 30:37Speaker 5: up in their face and they have to eat the money,
- 30:38Speaker 5: then they'll figure out the way to work around the
- 30:40Speaker 5: salary cap. So it just to me, it's just a
- 30:44Speaker 5: boomer bust signing and that's it.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Paul, you touched on it, and this was
- 30:49Speaker 4: that was something that I kind of thought about after
- 30:51Speaker 4: we discussed this on Tuesday, was like, does DeAndre Hopkins
- 30:54Speaker 4: make the Patriots super Bowl contenders?
- 30:56Speaker 8: No?
- 30:57Speaker 4: I mean does he make them super Bowl conners next year? Definitely?
- 30:59Speaker 3: No?
- 31:00Speaker 4: You know, so it's it's it's it's just one of
- 31:02Speaker 4: those moves like you feel like you kind of have
- 31:04Speaker 4: to make. But does it really move the needle where
- 31:06Speaker 4: we all want it to go?
- 31:07Speaker 2: If he alone doesn't. But if you if Mac takes
- 31:10Speaker 2: a jump and I'm talking beyond his rookie season, if
- 31:14Speaker 2: he if he throws for thirty plus touchdowns and four
- 31:18Speaker 2: thousand plus yards, and you have Dee Hopkins, I think
- 31:22Speaker 2: you're you're in the you're in the conversation now. I
- 31:25Speaker 2: think of, you know, being a playoff contender and then
- 31:30Speaker 2: anything goes and then anything goes to get in.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm with you. I think that they could
- 31:35Speaker 3: they could become a playoff contender.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Absolutely, you know, absolutely, And that's saying a lot because
- 31:41Speaker 2: of the division, because you know you're gonna be a
- 31:44Speaker 2: wild card, so you're gonna have to beat out a
- 31:47Speaker 2: bunch of teams just to get into the playoffs. So
- 31:49Speaker 2: it's saying a lot to be a playoff content.
- 31:51Speaker 5: I would just like to go into to Buffalo one
- 31:54Speaker 5: time and feel like, if this game is played in
- 31:56Speaker 5: the thirties, we might actually have a chance to outscore
- 32:00Speaker 5: the Bills on the scoreboard. And Hopkins just makes it
- 32:04Speaker 5: feel like that.
- 32:05Speaker 2: It's more like that makes a few stops.
- 32:07Speaker 5: We got a shot, right, I mean, how many times
- 32:10Speaker 5: are we gonna go into Buffalo with just going into
- 32:13Speaker 5: the game knowing, really, we only win this game if
- 32:15Speaker 5: it goes one way, like if it turns into a
- 32:18Speaker 5: rock fight and and it's really windy or freezing or
- 32:23Speaker 5: there's a blizzard or something like out out of our
- 32:26Speaker 5: control happens. Because if we have to play Buffalo straight up,
- 32:30Speaker 5: then we have no chance. I just I need to
- 32:33Speaker 5: move the needle.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Yeah, and I would, I would say too. To Fred's point, like,
- 32:35Speaker 4: it's it's not even about what you know, it's a
- 32:38Speaker 4: lot about what Hopkins would bring on the field, but
- 32:39Speaker 4: it's also just his arrivals. It's gives maxim encouragement, it
- 32:43Speaker 4: gives Mac you know, a little bit of juice, Like
- 32:45Speaker 4: all right, I got another really good guy to throw to.
- 32:47Speaker 4: You know, maybe that that is something that can help
- 32:50Speaker 4: get him to that season that like you said, you know.
- 32:52Speaker 2: A real professional wide receiver who knows the game, is crafty.
- 32:57Speaker 2: You know, we'll get it. I think that can only
- 33:01Speaker 2: help the team.
- 33:02Speaker 4: I just my brain can't get help. But go to
- 33:05Speaker 4: day one a training camp, when the fans are lining
- 33:07Speaker 4: up out there, what's the difference between if DeAndre Hopkins
- 33:09Speaker 4: is on this roster or he's not. I think it's
- 33:11Speaker 4: a huge difference. I think that that's going to put
- 33:13Speaker 4: seats in the butt, seats in the butt, in the butt.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Wow, that was a good one. That was a good one.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Seats in the butts. I might want to sit the
- 33:21Speaker 3: next one. No, and I wouldn't the whole like, does
- 33:28Speaker 3: he make you a super Bowl contender? That shouldn't be.
- 33:30Speaker 3: And I understand it, Like I get the theory and whatnot.
- 33:33Speaker 3: I'm not making fun of anyone for thinking that way
- 33:36Speaker 3: that he's not going to make you a super Bowl contender,
- 33:38Speaker 3: But I don't think that should be the be all
- 33:40Speaker 3: end all with every transaction that you make, Well, is
- 33:42Speaker 3: this guy gonna help us?
- 33:43Speaker 1: Right?
- 33:43Speaker 3: If he makes you better? And you're trying to get
- 33:45Speaker 3: better as a team, and yes, I do think mac
- 33:48Speaker 3: Jones is part of that. It's a position that would
- 33:51Speaker 3: help mac Jones, that helps your overall course. Yeah, anything
- 33:57Speaker 3: you can do to help maximize what you have Mac
- 34:00Speaker 3: Jones you should be thinking about because I think that's
- 34:03Speaker 3: a big part of the next three four to five years.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and certainly this season, any success will hinge on
- 34:11Speaker 2: how mac Jones plays. Yeah, you just.
- 34:14Speaker 5: Look at the schedule too. I keep on going back
- 34:16Speaker 5: to the schedule and how difficult it is and how
- 34:18Speaker 5: many offenses that they're gonna play, even right out of
- 34:21Speaker 5: the gate with Philly and Dallas and now with Rogers
- 34:25Speaker 5: and with the Jets. Like, you're gonna have to score
- 34:28Speaker 5: some points to win some games. And at some point
- 34:31Speaker 5: you have to recognize that and go all in and
- 34:34Speaker 5: everything that you can. I'm not saying, like go sign
- 34:36Speaker 5: Hopkins and Dalvin Cook, but like you have to do
- 34:39Speaker 5: some things to get closer to be able to compete
- 34:42Speaker 5: like that because you're not gonna beat every single team
- 34:45Speaker 5: twenty to seventeen, especially with the offenses and the quarterbacks
- 34:48Speaker 5: that are on their schedule. It's gonna be some shootouts
- 34:52Speaker 5: and can you win one of those games? Because you haven't,
- 34:54Speaker 5: you haven't won one of those games.
- 34:55Speaker 4: I won't overreact to week week one, but I just
- 34:58Speaker 4: I think the Eagles kind of embodied just such a
- 35:00Speaker 4: fascinating first test of everything the Patriots kind of do
- 35:03Speaker 4: and stand for, and what the Eagles have done and
- 35:05Speaker 4: stand for, what their offensive scheme is, and how many
- 35:08Speaker 4: fits that's giving a balance team balance. They got a
- 35:11Speaker 4: lot of you know, a lot of frigging guys from
- 35:13Speaker 4: Georgia on the defense, but I mean, they just, you know,
- 35:15Speaker 4: they I think everybody is pretty impressed with just their
- 35:18Speaker 4: team building approach and you know, and I think the
- 35:20Speaker 4: Patriots used to have that.
- 35:21Speaker 3: I don't think they've had it lately.
- 35:22Speaker 4: And it's just that it's a really interesting first game
- 35:24Speaker 4: as far as the narrative goes.
- 35:28Speaker 3: I understand it, and I totally and that's why I
- 35:31Speaker 3: would want to I would want to make a move
- 35:32Speaker 3: like that, not because I think he's gonna put me well,
- 35:36Speaker 3: now I can do X, Y and Z, but he's
- 35:38Speaker 3: going to help me do some of the things that
- 35:39Speaker 3: I haven't been able to do now for two years.
- 35:42Speaker 3: And I do think that that's part of if you
- 35:44Speaker 3: want to people write in and they call in all
- 35:47Speaker 3: the time and they ask us what kind of things
- 35:48Speaker 3: would you think would represent progress? You know, these nebulous
- 35:52Speaker 3: kind of if he did this, or if Mac did
- 35:54Speaker 3: that and the offense did this, and they showed signs
- 35:57Speaker 3: of that, and we always say, well, you kind of
- 35:59Speaker 3: know it when you see it. It's hard to just say, well,
- 36:01Speaker 3: if he throws for X amount of yards and X
- 36:02Speaker 3: amount of touchdowns. To me, if you can get at
- 36:06Speaker 3: the end of the year, there's no longer anybody rationally
- 36:10Speaker 3: saying Hac Jones shouldn't be the quarterback in year four.
- 36:14Speaker 3: That would be a very positive sign. And I think
- 36:17Speaker 3: part of that should be trying to make sure that
- 36:21Speaker 3: you have everything in support of him that you can
- 36:23Speaker 3: and that doesn't mean you bend over backward to do
- 36:25Speaker 3: things that are going to hurt the team just to
- 36:27Speaker 3: help the quarterback. This to me, helps the team adds
- 36:31Speaker 3: at the very least, it adds depth at a position
- 36:34Speaker 3: that I think you have a lot of similar If
- 36:37Speaker 3: you have a lot of similar players, I think he
- 36:39Speaker 3: would be the best player.
- 36:40Speaker 4: And Tevan's point at the top of the show with
- 36:42Speaker 4: the two rookies you know. I mean, we don't want
- 36:44Speaker 4: to bury them at all at this point, but you know,
- 36:46Speaker 4: it's just something to think about. The depth is certainly
- 36:48Speaker 4: an issue, like you said, and you know, if those
- 36:50Speaker 4: guys don't pop, you're gonna need another body.
- 36:51Speaker 3: And you have to remember that both of those guys
- 36:53Speaker 3: were selected in the sixth round. Now, I understand that
- 36:56Speaker 3: Booty is considered to be more talented than the sixth round,
- 37:01Speaker 3: but it wasn't just because he fell out of favor
- 37:06Speaker 3: at LSU. That's not why he went from the late
- 37:08Speaker 3: first second round to the sixth round. It was because
- 37:11Speaker 3: of his production, because of how he ran at the combine,
- 37:15Speaker 3: the injury that he had with you, there's a lot
- 37:16Speaker 3: of things that factored into that, you know, in addition
- 37:20Speaker 3: to you know, Brian Kelly kind of asked them to leave.
- 37:22Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the only reason why I brought it up
- 37:24Speaker 5: was to kind of temper expectations for those two a
- 37:27Speaker 5: little bit, because I do think it's gotten and maybe
- 37:29Speaker 5: some of this was our fault, my fault.
- 37:31Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:31Speaker 5: I don't speak for everybody, but I loved that book.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I still love the pick, but.
- 37:36Speaker 5: I do think that now that we've gotten out there,
- 37:37Speaker 5: Like d you said the other day, you know, the
- 37:39Speaker 5: top four received veteran guys aren't at practice, and Booty
- 37:43Speaker 5: and Douglas are have this great opportunity to pop a
- 37:46Speaker 5: little bit and they kind of did nothing.
- 37:49Speaker 3: So it's funny that you said that. So that was
- 37:50Speaker 3: kind of like the top of my blog thing on Tuesday,
- 37:54Speaker 3: was that the thing that you were talking about during
- 37:57Speaker 3: the show and during practice I stole from you. I
- 37:59Speaker 3: told Joe I was going to do it about just
- 38:02Speaker 3: how heavily involved all the rookies were. I didn't really
- 38:04Speaker 3: accentuate the receivers because I didn't really see a whole
- 38:07Speaker 3: lot from them. Yeah, but I you know, we were
- 38:09Speaker 3: talking about you know, Gonzales in white and you know
- 38:12Speaker 3: how they were, where Mapu went from linebacker one day
- 38:16Speaker 3: of OTAs to safety and being active the next day
- 38:20Speaker 3: that we got to see OTAs. I didn't really see
- 38:23Speaker 3: a whole lot from Douglas or Booty. Doesn't mean that
- 38:26Speaker 3: we won't see him. It was OTA practices, So I'm
- 38:29Speaker 3: not writing them off by any means, But yeah, I
- 38:31Speaker 3: thought they were a little.
- 38:33Speaker 5: I'm not writing them off, but these are the types
- 38:35Speaker 5: of practices that you want to see a receiver. There's
- 38:37Speaker 5: no contact, there's no pads. Like, if you're not getting
- 38:40Speaker 5: open and creating separation in the spring, then how are
- 38:43Speaker 5: you going to do it once? People can hit you
- 38:45Speaker 5: if they don't.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Bite when they're puppies.
- 38:48Speaker 4: I felt like to the covers was a little bit
- 38:51Speaker 4: I don't know, maybe this is I might be wrong
- 38:53Speaker 4: on this one. But do you feel with Gonzales like, oh, yeah,
- 38:56Speaker 4: he's the guy? Like based off that practice, do you
- 38:57Speaker 4: feel like, oh, he's the number one? Like I just
- 38:59Speaker 4: I felt like there was a lot of reactions of like,
- 39:01Speaker 4: though he's the number one because he was out there.
- 39:04Speaker 3: It's like, we do this every year, and we all
- 39:07Speaker 3: do it. I'm guilty of it too. Again, I don't
- 39:09Speaker 3: like to I make fun of myself as much as
- 39:12Speaker 3: I make fun of everybody else. I know people don't
- 39:14Speaker 3: always hear it that way, but when Bill tells you
- 39:18Speaker 3: time and time again to not do that, we still
- 39:21Speaker 3: all do it. Marp who was out there right next
- 39:23Speaker 3: to Juwan Bentley the first time we get a chance
- 39:25Speaker 3: to win, Oh my god, he's got a red jersey on.
- 39:27Speaker 3: He's a rookie.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Day one.
- 39:30Speaker 3: The next practice we go through and Christian Gonzalez is
- 39:32Speaker 3: at left corner first play, first play that we get
- 39:35Speaker 3: to see him at OTAs he's out there. Yeah, okay,
- 39:39Speaker 3: we'll see what happens. You know, I think that Gonzalez
- 39:42Speaker 3: is going to be the starter. I told you Rossie
- 39:44Speaker 3: Dowling started week one as a rookie. Like, it's not
- 39:47Speaker 3: going to be this way out of character thing for
- 39:50Speaker 3: Bill Belichick to start a cornerback, a rookie cornerback in
- 39:52Speaker 3: week one.
- 39:53Speaker 5: Don't put that bad juju.
- 39:55Speaker 3: No, I'm just saying, like, I think it's more likely
- 39:57Speaker 3: than not that he starts. Yeah, week one, you pick
- 40:00Speaker 3: him in the first round, it's a need he should start.
- 40:02Speaker 3: He should start.
- 40:03Speaker 4: If he doesn't, it's upset. But I just I just
- 40:05Speaker 4: want to pump the brakes on like he's a shutdown
- 40:07Speaker 4: corner you know. I'm like, like, pump the brakes like,
- 40:11Speaker 4: I like, we all want him to be, Hey, go
- 40:13Speaker 4: follow Stefan Diggs and take him out of the game.
- 40:14Speaker 4: But I just I think that that's way too lofty
- 40:16Speaker 4: to expect for this.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Before we started, Evyon was joking around about the you
- 40:20Speaker 3: know the stats that everybody compiles during the you know,
- 40:23Speaker 3: during these practices. You know, so and so was you know,
- 40:26Speaker 3: eight for nine during the competitive but there was no
- 40:29Speaker 3: competitive portion of that.
- 40:30Speaker 5: That's and I will admit that it's difficult. It takes
- 40:34Speaker 5: a while to train your eyes of like is this
- 40:37Speaker 5: a live rep? Is this not a live rep? Like
- 40:38Speaker 5: where are we on you know, the from walk through
- 40:41Speaker 5: to to full tilt? Like what percentage are we going?
- 40:45Speaker 5: But the stats that come out from these OTA practices
- 40:48Speaker 5: is a joke. I mean, like what, First of all,
- 40:51Speaker 5: a lot of the time the corners are letting up
- 40:54Speaker 5: and letting the receivers catch the ball just so that
- 40:56Speaker 5: the drill can continue, like whether or not that they're
- 40:59Speaker 5: actually catching it or not. So you know, they're running
- 41:02Speaker 5: like a like a kill the clock type of drill
- 41:05Speaker 5: at the other practice on it the other day, and
- 41:07Speaker 5: I'm pretty positive that the corners were being told to
- 41:11Speaker 5: just let because they're trying to work on the situation.
- 41:13Speaker 5: They're not really necessarily worried about going one on one
- 41:16Speaker 5: or are you gonna catch it? Or are you gonna
- 41:18Speaker 5: stop it? They're just trying to play out this is
- 41:20Speaker 5: what happens when we're trying to get a first down
- 41:23Speaker 5: to run out the rest of the clock. So yeah,
- 41:25Speaker 5: don't don't pay any attention to that.
- 41:28Speaker 4: Was he six or seven?
- 41:29Speaker 2: All right, let's the phones. Eldred's in North Carolina? What's up, Eldred?
- 41:33Speaker 4: Yeah, so let's tell y'all doing passionate honk there like yes, sir.
- 41:41Speaker 10: Evan all with you? Man, it makes them better. I
- 41:44Speaker 10: don't give you thirty one thirty two. Go get him,
- 41:47Speaker 10: you know, at least we'll see what kick the towers
- 41:50Speaker 10: on them to think and that'd be good. But Fred,
- 41:53Speaker 10: I listened to Tuesday show because I couldn't get in. Yeah,
- 41:55Speaker 10: you hurt my feelings? Man? What did I do hurt
- 41:58Speaker 10: my feeling?
- 41:58Speaker 2: Oh?
- 42:00Speaker 10: Okay, I told you when they met, when they picked them.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Okay, Well I I then I apologize. I forget I
- 42:11Speaker 2: didn't I don't remember that. But if you said that,
- 42:13Speaker 2: then I apologize.
- 42:16Speaker 10: I didn't predict the s I'll say, we're going to
- 42:19Speaker 10: the super Bowl, okay, And if you played back old clip,
- 42:22Speaker 10: you just say that.
- 42:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm why don't you get that old clip?
- 42:26Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 42:27Speaker 3: Get that for next week.
- 42:28Speaker 5: To be fair, if they didn't have Randy Moss and
- 42:30Speaker 5: you picked them to go to the super Bowl, that
- 42:32Speaker 5: have been outlandish at the time.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Like I thought Dante Starwolf was a guy. You guys
- 42:40Speaker 3: know that I'm you know, probably as pessimistic as as any.
- 42:45Speaker 3: There was like an eleven year stretch, right, I picked
- 42:47Speaker 3: him to go to the super Bowl every year.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Yeah. But but coming off but coming off his year
- 42:53Speaker 2: at in at the Raiders, people didn't really know what
- 42:56Speaker 2: you were getting with Randy Moass, and that's why you
- 42:58Speaker 2: got him for fourth round pick exactly.
- 43:02Speaker 10: But but I said, superdrum. He said, you get the
- 43:05Speaker 10: rand new of old. And I believe them. Okay, Like
- 43:07Speaker 10: I said, I knew Randy a little bit. So like
- 43:10Speaker 10: I said, the girl was dating at the time, his
- 43:12Speaker 10: baby mama drama is Virginia, all.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Right, okay, okay, six degrees of uh so you knew
- 43:21Speaker 3: it's like Zion Williams.
- 43:22Speaker 2: But great, you know, y'all all right, thanks, all right?
- 43:30Speaker 5: So we we. Julio was the comparison, and that one
- 43:33Speaker 5: was spot on. It turns out statistically, Moss was thirty
- 43:36Speaker 5: when he came to the Patriots. The year before with
- 43:39Speaker 5: the with the Raiders, he had forty two catches for
- 43:41Speaker 5: five hundred and fifty three yards and three touchdowns. God
- 43:44Speaker 5: some of the conversations are are similar between those two guys.
- 43:48Speaker 5: You know, do they how much do they want to practice?
- 43:51Speaker 5: How much effort are they putting in? Like malcontents in
- 43:54Speaker 5: their current people thought he flat out didn't want to play,
- 43:56Speaker 5: right absolutely, Yeah, yeah, I mean he Moss was a
- 43:59Speaker 5: year younger. But I'm not saying that if they signed
- 44:01Speaker 5: Hopkins is gonna catch twenty three touchdowns. But I think
- 44:04Speaker 5: that there's you know, there if you you could say
- 44:07Speaker 5: it's Julio, but you could also say it's for any Moss,
- 44:08Speaker 5: right like there, And that's sort of the point, right,
- 44:10Speaker 5: and let's play.
- 44:11Speaker 3: We'll play, you know, the positive side of it, Like
- 44:15Speaker 3: look at the impact that those high profile wide receiver
- 44:19Speaker 3: acquisitions had last year, you know, with Hill and Adams
- 44:24Speaker 3: and Brown. You know, is it completely out of the
- 44:28Speaker 3: Roman possibility? Like I know you would joke around you said,
- 44:30Speaker 3: like twenty three touchdowns? What if you cut like thirteen? Yeah,
- 44:33Speaker 3: if you got twenty three, what if you cut like
- 44:35Speaker 3: thirteen touchdowns for you? Yeah, and all of a sudden,
- 44:38Speaker 3: he vaults your offense to a different level, right, Like
- 44:42Speaker 3: it's it's not completely out of the realm of possibility
- 44:45Speaker 3: for a great player to have one more great season.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Spend the money. Just get him here, Get him here.
- 44:52Speaker 2: I mean like if I'm if you're the Titans, maybe
- 44:55Speaker 2: you don't need it. Let him leave today.
- 44:56Speaker 3: I mean that's what I'm working.
- 44:57Speaker 2: And he comes in and say, you're not leaving.
- 45:00Speaker 3: If you leave, go now. You just can't leave.
- 45:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it seems like rapes rapes.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so me.
- 45:05Speaker 5: At least get a visit, Like, can you at least
- 45:07Speaker 5: get a seat at the table. That's the thing that has.
- 45:10Speaker 4: He seen the new video board.
- 45:11Speaker 3: He's got to see the.
- 45:12Speaker 2: New video Who's the agent that he chose?
- 45:14Speaker 5: Uh? Guy that works for Clutch Sports.
- 45:17Speaker 3: I forget his name.
- 45:18Speaker 5: I did I know the name.
- 45:20Speaker 2: He's not a friend of Bill.
- 45:21Speaker 4: You're texting him yet, Evan.
- 45:23Speaker 2: It's not Neil Cohen rich or Drew Rosenhouse.
- 45:26Speaker 5: No, it's not true.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Allen Eagleston, Na and agents.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Don't all right, a lot of emails coming in. Let's
- 45:37Speaker 2: see Alex has wondered about the background noise. Sorry about that.
- 45:41Speaker 2: There is construction going on. Uh so it's a lot
- 45:45Speaker 2: of beeps.
- 45:46Speaker 4: It's like it was like a cacophony of beeps.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Well you get well, I know you weren't because I
- 45:50Speaker 3: had checked with you earlier. Fred, were you here when
- 45:53Speaker 3: the evacuation happened yesterday? Yeah, I didn't see you outside.
- 45:56Speaker 2: It wasn't ann actual evacuation.
- 45:58Speaker 3: But how did you know?
- 45:59Speaker 2: He gave it a Fred And because it says if
- 46:00Speaker 2: you listen, if after this announcement, the signal stops and
- 46:05Speaker 2: you don't have to go out. So the single started
- 46:07Speaker 2: for started for five seconds and then it stopped.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Everybody else went on it's busy not on our floor. Well,
- 46:15Speaker 3: I just assume.
- 46:19Speaker 2: I actually listened to the announcement, so we were good,
- 46:24Speaker 2: but there was a fire, let's see. Dylan Wright saying,
- 46:28Speaker 2: just wanted to give a shout out to Evan. Love
- 46:31Speaker 2: watching people say we need to get younger through the
- 46:33Speaker 2: draft and get good, young, skilled position players. Then Evan
- 46:37Speaker 2: says the second round wide receiver going into their second
- 46:40Speaker 2: year looks good so far, and then every call is
- 46:42Speaker 2: people saying let's pump the brakes. I'm glad I don't
- 46:45Speaker 2: have to worry about people calling in to chastise me
- 46:47Speaker 2: because Gonzo and Thornton look good and I'm excited to
- 46:51Speaker 2: see their production this season. I feel confident, saying they
- 46:54Speaker 2: will both be good players, and it's funny to me
- 46:56Speaker 2: that people consider that a bold take.
- 47:00Speaker 3: I think one of them is a bull tack.
- 47:02Speaker 5: Taekwon.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you didn't really see anything that would
- 47:06Speaker 3: lead you to believe that's gonna be a really good player.
- 47:07Speaker 3: I still don't know what we got on him. He was.
- 47:09Speaker 3: I'm not telling you he's bad, But like Gonzales, there's
- 47:13Speaker 3: there's a freshness there. He's he's a rookie, first round pick,
- 47:16Speaker 3: and you know, we love the athleticism, let's see him play.
- 47:19Speaker 3: But the Wointon played a whole year and it was
- 47:21Speaker 3: kind of and that's what I like.
- 47:23Speaker 4: I'm trying to find a comp to him of like,
- 47:25Speaker 4: you know, to be like what could he be? And
- 47:27Speaker 4: there's just not a lot of you know, bean pull
- 47:29Speaker 4: speed burners out there in the league. Like I don't know,
- 47:31Speaker 4: I just I struggled.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Just that's what it is.
- 47:33Speaker 4: And that's stupid because you know, he's his own guy
- 47:35Speaker 4: and you shouldn't have to rely on a comparison.
- 47:37Speaker 5: But I'll give you a couple. Yeah, you know, I
- 47:40Speaker 5: have these. I have these in the chambers. I'm interested,
- 47:42Speaker 5: So I think the best one just because of who
- 47:45Speaker 5: the coordinator is is will Fuller. Now will Fuller, if
- 47:48Speaker 5: he was healthy, would have been a thousand yard receiver
- 47:51Speaker 5: for a long time. He just didn't stay healthy. And
- 47:54Speaker 5: when I remember will Fuller, I remember him being a
- 47:56Speaker 5: bigger guy. I actually looked it up. He's basically the
- 47:59Speaker 5: same size as Taekwon. He was. He was a rail
- 48:01Speaker 5: thin burner, you know, that was exactly, and he couldn't
- 48:04Speaker 5: stay healthy well, and he couldn't stay healthy. So maybe
- 48:07Speaker 5: maybe he couldn't stay healthy just because he couldn't stay
- 48:09Speaker 5: healthy and he's unlucky, or maybe it was because his
- 48:11Speaker 5: body was too frail and he got hurt all the time.
- 48:14Speaker 5: I don't know, but he just watching how he was
- 48:18Speaker 5: used in Bill O'Brien's offense in Houston, it's there's some
- 48:22Speaker 5: similar comparisons.
- 48:23Speaker 3: That's a good one.
- 48:24Speaker 5: And you know, he hasn't hasn't broken out in the
- 48:26Speaker 5: NFL yet. But Jamison Williams at Alabama under O'Brien had
- 48:31Speaker 5: a great year at his breakout season, and he's also
- 48:34Speaker 5: a six foot one hundred and eighty pounds, soaking wet
- 48:37Speaker 5: for two guys. So we'll see what happens with Jamison
- 48:40Speaker 5: Williams in the NFL. But I think that those two
- 48:43Speaker 5: the way they were used within the structure of Bill
- 48:46Speaker 5: O'Brien's offense, I think you can kind of take away
- 48:48Speaker 5: as some similarities there some overlap.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Tim from Duncan, our friends at Duncan listening to you guy,
- 48:54Speaker 2: Duncan listening to you guys on Hopkins today, and the
- 48:58Speaker 2: chances of him coming to the Patriots. Fortunately, I think
- 49:00Speaker 2: he's not leaving Nashville without a contract. On a totally
- 49:04Speaker 2: different note, my son walked by Paul on Tuesday in
- 49:07Speaker 2: the stadium and immediately called me and said, who's that
- 49:10Speaker 2: gray haired guy you always watch and listened to. I
- 49:12Speaker 2: immediately said Paul Parolo, and sure enough he said, yes,
- 49:17Speaker 2: this show is it's best ever. And that's saying something.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Catch twenty two is great in its own right.
- 49:22Speaker 5: Thank you, Tim, Thanks Tim, Thanks Tim.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I need While he was talking, says he says
- 49:30Speaker 2: who the person was, but he said it's off the
- 49:32Speaker 2: air for off the air.
- 49:35Speaker 3: I want to know if he like, you know, breach
- 49:37Speaker 3: security or anything.
- 49:38Speaker 4: Paul loves when he gets asked for autographs, So don't
- 49:40Speaker 4: hesitate next time.
- 49:41Speaker 3: Just mister, I hate you.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Signed anyway, Paul says, yeah, you know, I had to
- 49:48Speaker 2: go speak to a class that he loves that he
- 49:50Speaker 2: gets up there and you know, has the ring and everything, and.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Oh, I do I do enjoy that. That's actor. I
- 49:56Speaker 3: enjoy speaking to classic.
- 49:57Speaker 2: I know you don't you want to kiss the ring.
- 49:58Speaker 3: I think that's cool.
- 49:59Speaker 5: I did at one time.
- 50:00Speaker 3: That never will never stop being cool. When someone says
- 50:03Speaker 3: hello to you that I'm sorry, that will never stop
- 50:06Speaker 3: being cool to me, that makes me a bad person.
- 50:09Speaker 5: Then it's especially cool when it happens when I'm with Jess,
- 50:12Speaker 5: because then it's like me.
- 50:15Speaker 3: That will turn.
- 50:16Speaker 4: That doesn't care, it doesn't care for that.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Beth Rules Arising goes.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Please Andrea from New Jersey. Here are my two bold
- 50:25Speaker 2: predictions for the Patriots. By the start of the season
- 50:27Speaker 2: and when the season is over. That Pig in the
- 50:30Speaker 2: urban setting will be a starter over Trent Brown by
- 50:32Speaker 2: week one or week four.
- 50:34Speaker 3: Just a tremendous I don't think. I don't think that
- 50:38Speaker 3: got enough. I mean, we all laughed and we all
- 50:40Speaker 3: liked it, but in listening to the open today, I
- 50:43Speaker 3: don't think we gave it enough.
- 50:45Speaker 5: The origin of that though.
- 50:48Speaker 2: My other prediction is Patriots will be in the AFC
- 50:50Speaker 2: Championship game, all those analysts on television talking about the
- 50:54Speaker 2: other three teams in the division will look like buffoons
- 50:58Speaker 2: disrespecting this team. This will be Belichick and mac Jones
- 51:01Speaker 2: revenge tour. What are they getting revenge about?
- 51:04Speaker 3: Can you imagine you don't want to get mac Jones upset?
- 51:07Speaker 2: Ps. I know how to write good emails and become
- 51:10Speaker 2: a real football nerd like Evan Fred. Can I come
- 51:12Speaker 2: to work for you? Well?
- 51:16Speaker 3: No, that kind of seemed like a shot at effort.
- 51:17Speaker 5: We're not hiring. That seemed like a shot at There's
- 51:20Speaker 5: only one. There's only one nerd that's allowed to be here.
- 51:24Speaker 3: All right, just like there's only one Duce.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Ray says, I'll be honest, I don't have a highly
- 51:29Speaker 2: constructive email to write today, but I wanted to bump
- 51:32Speaker 2: Fred's nickname for cities up another level. The second movie
- 51:36Speaker 2: in the Babe series is Babe Too in the City.
- 51:40Speaker 2: I'm surprised Hollywood Duce didn't make the connection. And also
- 51:44Speaker 2: I noticed that Eric's replacement, Evan properly used the term
- 51:48Speaker 2: jettison during Tuesday's show. In order to fully supplant Eric,
- 51:52Speaker 2: we need Evan to define flotsam and jetsam and the
- 51:55Speaker 2: cycle will be complete.
- 51:57Speaker 5: I can't, so at least you would.
- 52:00Speaker 3: I heard part.
- 52:02Speaker 5: Talked about it.
- 52:03Speaker 4: We we we did discuss that, that that whole argument thing.
- 52:06Speaker 3: Yeah, so say what it is, I'll do, I'll do
- 52:09Speaker 3: my O. I can't. I don't know.
- 52:10Speaker 2: I don't have that.
- 52:11Speaker 3: I don't I don't have the top of my head. No, Fred,
- 52:15Speaker 3: that's not what I said. Yes, that's what I said.
- 52:19Speaker 3: No matter what he said, is what he said. Even
- 52:21Speaker 3: though it doesn't have anything to do with crap flam
- 52:24Speaker 3: in the ocean. Isn't that what it is? Well, one
- 52:26Speaker 3: of them had to do with like actual stuff that
- 52:28Speaker 3: was thrown off, like an airplane, because flats was that
- 52:31Speaker 3: the flats of the jets, the jets, jets from the jets.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Anyway, it wasn't what Eric thought it was.
- 52:37Speaker 3: Whatever it was, Eric butchered it and like Fred said,
- 52:40Speaker 3: instead of just saying I don't know, like Evan did.
- 52:43Speaker 3: It went on for forty five minutes. Fred George, all right,
- 52:47Speaker 3: we're gonna take a break. My foods here. When we
- 52:50Speaker 3: come back, we'll have more. Fred.
- 52:52Speaker 2: Yeah.

- 1:02:09Speaker 5: And now Great Moments in.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: History. Both terms refer to items found floating in the sea. However,
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: Eric was wrong stating that the distinction relates to the
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: type of vehicle.
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: I misspoke, Eric, We have it on tape.
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: I just said I misspoke.
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: You were clear were taking context. There was no misspeaking.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Did you misremember the fact that you mentioned a plane
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: is absolutely one hundred percent wrong.
- 1:02:36Speaker 19: Yes, because I was thinking in my head jet Jettison
- 1:02:39Speaker 19: was thinking jets wrong.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: So that's how I was remembering it, because he said.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Jets Let me finish this. The correct distinction is that
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: flotsam is debris from a flessel, from a vessel that
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: was that was not deliberately thrown overboard, and jetsam is
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: debris from a vessel that was deliberately thrown.
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: Yes, I'm aware you didn't say that.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: Yes, I did say that.
- 1:03:05Speaker 19: Eric, I said, when there's a shipwreck, he kind of flats, Yeah,
- 1:03:10Speaker 19: because it just floats when it just floats from a
- 1:03:13Speaker 19: shipwreck when.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: You throw stuff off.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: But he was right about the the action.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: He was wrong about the vehicle, right.
- 1:03:21Speaker 19: No, I said, when there's a shipwreck, Yeah, the stuff
- 1:03:26Speaker 19: that's the debris from the shipwreck is floating.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: That's flats.
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: That's not correct.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: It is correct.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: He just kept digging a hole deeper and deeper.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: Oh that went on for another half hour. Yeah, I
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: just wanted to stay for the record. Did I misrepresent
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: that story in any way? And another rare one that
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: I wasn't really involved in.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a good one though. Yeah, that was
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: a good one.
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: I'm nothing like that.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: You have your own oddities back here. Eight five five
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: pats five hundred is the ace ticket hutline web radio
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: at Patriots dot com as the email address deuces Mike
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: isn't working.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: Oh no, did you break it? Deuced?
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Oh no, oh boy, let's get because he had so
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: many ridiculous takes, so we had to cut you off.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: Let's get back to some of these emails at web
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: radio at Patriots dot com. Neil from New Brunswick. I'm
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: wondering if any of you heard Tom Brady's recent string
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: of interviews. I heard the conversation with Rich Eisen. My opinion,
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: he says all the right things, but it's still pretty
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: bitter toward the Patriots. When asked about Aaron Rodgers' chances
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: of doing what he did with the Bucks, he said
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: it would be tough because the Bills and Dolphins are
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: really good, and then proceeded to take ten seconds to
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: remember the fourth team in the division, the Patriots. When
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: asked about returning for Week one to be honored, he
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: said he was excited and then basically said it will
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: be a miracle if the Patriots win because the Eagles
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: are so good and apparently we're so bad. The nicest
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: thing he can say is, as kids were born in Boston,
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: I would get your honoring in while you can be
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: based oh what happened? What's going on here? I would
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: get your honoring him while you can, because based on
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: the way he talks, I would not expect frequent visits
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: from TB twelve. Interesting did anyone else see the recent
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: string or hear the recent string of interviews?
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I would just say that I didn't based
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: on that summary. I didn't really see the shots.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: Hello, oh here I am.
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: I think he was saying that he wasn't giving the
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: Patriots a seat at the table in the AFC East
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: because he's mentioned the Jets and the Dolphins. But I mean,
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: to be fair, Brady is going to be on Fox
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: as an analyst, and you know, whether you think he's
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: actually going to take that job or not, he's going
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: to have to be somewhat objective and he can't just
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: wave the pomp pomps for the Patriots all the time.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: And he is going to be part owner of the Raiders.
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: No, But my point is like saying that the Jets
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: and the Dolphins have improved and not really you know,
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: talking about the like, that's not a shot, right right,
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: I mean, did you take that as a shot? No?
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: I guess we didn't hear it, so maybe it came off.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: I mean, I think the most optimistic Patriot fan would
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: have to say on paper, the Patriots are fourth in
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: the division. Again, Evan's been saying it about Aaron Rodgers
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: for weeks now, like he's not buying it. If Aaron
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: Rodgers doesn't work with the Jets, of the Patriots will
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: finish probably like they did last year, neck and neck
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: with the Jets, maybe one game ahead like they did
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: last year. If Rogers works, the Jets are probably going
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: to finish ahead of the Patriots.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: They could finish ahead of the Bills. Who knows, David,
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: No one knows.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: That's the beauty of it.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: David and Bethlehem.
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: Wait till after the season to judge the schedule.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Would you rather sign Hopkins or use that money to
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: extend u j Duggar or Mills? Can't do everything's David
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: and Bethlehem.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: It's not how it works.
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: Do you think you need to say money to extend
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: Jalen Mills?
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: And you think it's gonna cost you to sign Hopkins
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: what it would cost you to extend Oo Jay Duggar.
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: And it's also just not how it works. Whatever, like
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: Ja and Duggar's contracts are, they're going to be extended
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: for next season, so they're gonna play this season under
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: their current contract and then the next season is when
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: the cap will increase on those two guys, not this season,
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: and so you're you're not taking the money from the
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: same Pool.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: Don't ever change because that's the way that Boston fans
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: think about their teams. I don't understand it. I don't
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: know why you but it's just actually inaccurate. I don't know,
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: it's not how it works. Yeah, I think Deandrew Hobbins
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: is a really good player, and but how's that going
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: to work on the cap? Figure it out? Figure it out.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: That's your job. They have guys that that's their sole
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: responsibilities to figure out the salary cap.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: Figure it out, Jessin Connecticut, are the joint practices open
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: to the public. I'm going to be in Green Bay
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: for the joint practice and I would love to go
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: to it. If they're open to the public. If you
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: have any details on them, what days they are, that
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: would be appreciated.
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: So it just should be.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so look at the green Bay game and it'll
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: be you know that Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday before no with
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: games on Friday, green.
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: Bay games on Saturday Saturday.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in green Bay and
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: green Bay will because it's their place, they'll be the ones. Yeah,
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: probably sixteenth and seventeenth, And knowing green Bay, I would
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: imagine they will be open to the public probably you know, the.
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: Public, right.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: I was gonna say I think joint practices have to
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: be open, but I don't know that for sure.
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: Let's see, Anthony in Seattle wants to have us explain
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: pigging an urban setting. It flew over my head city
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: south city sou pigging an urban setting.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: Apparently the urban setting would be city, right right.
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: Apparently it's not. You don't pronounce it's sow though. Oh really,
- 1:08:57Speaker 5: that's just what.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: Who doesn't pronounce his name?
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: His honor city Sue is Sue?
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: Oh city, Sue, City Sue.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: Like that changes the whole.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: It changes the whole, it does, So what's going.
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: That's why we can't be like like an urban re
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: litigious person like Sue says.
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: Listen. This is according to Phil Perry, who I trust on.
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: He's good with the names because he goes and he
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: finds them talking about their names in college, right, like
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: you know, he found like the other day Kishan Booty
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: told the reporter at l SU, it's.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: Booty booty, but he said it like booty body booty,
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: like it was like booty. It was like no booty
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: because you got to have the Louisy in a twang
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: in there, right?
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: He does.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Also, Evan, can you please elaborate on how your new
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: baby nephew, Jason is named after your great uncle Jerry,
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: because at face value, I'm pretty sure he's not.
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: That's a good point. I can't tell you. But I
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: didnt see him yesterday and he how's he doing?
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: Hanging in there. Yeah, that's cool, getting waight hair falling out.
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: It's getting a little bigger. Yeah, it's definitely a little
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: bigger than than than day one when I when I
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: saw him. So can I just die zero?
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: That's really?
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: Can I bring up some Felger and mass stuff to discuss?
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: I was listening transition stuff.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: I have been listening, no I I yeah, I tuned
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: in yesterday. I just thought it was interesting that so
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: they were kind of talking about the fight a little bit,
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: and and and I didn't know who they were talking
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: about it first, and they were kind of saying, you know,
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: this is a guy who's been here for a little bit,
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: like he should be a leader. This shouldn't be happening.
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: And I should say too. I didn't know at first
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: that that they were talking about the fight. I just
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: heard them talking about a player that was here and
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: should be a leader and those kind of things. And
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: then it, you know, came to light that they were
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: talking about Barmore, and I was a little bit like,
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't really like necessarily need everybody
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: to be a leader all the time, like, and I
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: didn't like what I saw from the practice, but I
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: was just curious what you guys kind of thought about
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: about Barmore in that regard. But also, like you know,
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: talking aigger.
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: Play and he plays, I don't really like, I don't
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: know him to be everything. I just need him to
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: be a good player.
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: But I found myself wondering, just like because we talked
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: to Douggar the other day, and I mean, he's just
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: he's so straight laced and and you know, tough as
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: tough as anything to get like, you know, any kind
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: of personality or interesting stuff out of you know, do
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: you think that this is something like like are we
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: waiting for new leaders to emerge here? Like do you
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: think that there's a little bit of a vacuum right now?
- 1:11:21Speaker 20: Yeah?
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: I love te trick wise, and I think that he,
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: you know, speaks well for the team. And David Andrews
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: but you know, those guys are kind of the lone holdovers,
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: and you know, you lose mccordy, and you know, Slater's
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: getting up there, and I'm kind of waiting for like
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: practice with the team right right, you know, But but
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: I'm waiting for, you know, some of these new guys
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: to just step up it and feel like vocal leaders
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: to me. And I don't really see any new players,
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: you know, And and look, everybody can't do it. And I
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: love Kyle Dugger as a player, and you don't have
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: to be a vocal leader to be a good football
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: player to have a spot on a team. But I
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: just found myself feeling like they're they're relying still on
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: the same kind of guys. And when some of these
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: young guys get up to talk, I'm not really hearing
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: people talk about the team or talk about what we
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: have to do. It's always kind of left to these
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: older veterans. And so it just left me wondering of,
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: you know, who are the next guy's going to be?
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: I mean, I know Mac, but you know, I just
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: I'm so used to Rodney Harrison, Willy, you know Willy,
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: and you know all those guys that just kind of
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: spoke for the team and spoke about, you know, what
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: we have to do and those kind of things, and
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: it's just as mccordy leaves it, it feels like that
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: number of guys is dwindling and not really finding new guys.
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: Not that I expected Duggar to do it, but he
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: could have been the kind of guy who's up for
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: a long term contract to you know, hey, it seems
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: like he's taking ownership of this team now a little
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: bit instead of just being like one of the guys
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: who you know needs to be told like what we have.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: To do to win games. It's interesting. I'm not even sure, Like,
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: obviously Mac needs to be a leader, but beyond that,
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: who should it be. I don't know the answer to that.
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: I think the one guy that stands out to me
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: when we hear we talked to him is Joan Bentley,
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: Like he's an intense, well spoken guy that you know
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: it does have some personality, does have some uh good answers,
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: I think when we talked to him, and I think
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: he could be someone that that fits that. But you're right,
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: I mean they don't have I mean those guys were titans, right,
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: like McGuinness and Bruski and Vrabel, like those guys were
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: cut from a different cloth. And I don't even know,
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: And this is a shot at people my age and younger.
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: I don't even know if those people exist anymore. To
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: be honest with you, like, I don't know if that
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: type of mentality and that type of person really exists
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: at that level where you know, McGinnis was, you know,
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: notorious for being like one of those types of guys
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: that helped and and was it was all about that
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: and every I don't know. I don't know if this
- 1:13:43Speaker 5: generation does it the same way.
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: I like your Bentley example, but it's just my only
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: and I love the guy, but he's also it's just
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: he's a player that everybody kind of sums up as like, well,
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: that's a problem. We got to get rid of Bentley.
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: We got to have a more mobile middle linebacker. You know,
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: like you never said like, oh, yeah, Will, he's a leader,
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: but we got to get rid of him, you know,
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: like like that's and that's you know, that's a stupid,
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: probably ancillary thing. But yeah, I mean I do really
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: like Bentley. I just I wonder with some of these
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: younger guys if if they're going to take roles.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: On now, But who do you think it should be.
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: I mean, I, like I said, I wanted it to
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: be Doug Er, but I mean, I think, you know what, Fred,
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: it probably speaks more to the fact that the team
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: just doesn't have a lot of young star players right now.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: And I think sometimes that you're a star, you get
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: that kind of mojo, people acknowledge it. And maybe that's
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: why I'm putting it a little bit on Kyle Duggart
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: just you know, And I don't I don't want to
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: make an example out of him because I just don't
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: think that is who he is. He's just serious football guy.
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: He wants to talk ball. He doesn't, you know, really
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: want to worry about all that other stuff.
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: But I think Christian Gonzales is kind of the same
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: way though, like he's a little bit more soft spoken,
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: and I don't know, I just don't know if that
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: guy exists.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: To Evan's point, let's look at the Super Bowl champs,
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: the Chiefs. Obviously Mahomes is the leader beyond him, who
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: is it, kel Jones?
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: Kelsey?
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: I think Kelsey is a leader?
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: Yeah really, okay, Frock style, I think Chris Jones up
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: front defense Gronk style.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: But I wouldn't have called Gronk one of the vocal
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: leaders of the team.
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: But Gronk was a planet player, right, like, like people
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: got behind Gronk and and did it the right way.
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: Yeah, for all the there's a lot of similarities between
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: Kelsey and Gronk. Now, I've always found Gronk more likable
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: than Kelsey. Maybe that's because I'm a Patriots honk like
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: everybody else. But I think for all their you know,
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: clownish behavior, their work ethic was never to be questioned,
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: both of them. Yeah, you know, and like Evan said,
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: planet players, so it's easy to lead that way. And
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: I do think that they had the team in mind,
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: you know, with how they go about their business. Like
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: you don't hear a lot about Kelsey. I mean, everybody
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: has some things, but you don't hear them, like blowing
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: off training camp because he's looking for a new contract
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: or whatever, or you know, he misses a game with
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: a bad ankle and it turns into a missus a
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: month with a bad ankle. You don't hear that a
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: lot with those guys. I think those are leaders, like
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: you don't have to be necessary by the book. You know,
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: he's the leader. He does like Devin.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Mccordy at the podium.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: Yeah, but I do think that those guys, I think
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: a lot of those teams they take their lead to
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: you A point, Mike about like, where do you find it?
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: You know, young or old? I don't know if you
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: guys caught the ESPN thing that came out today. I
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: think it was Seth Walder a Wilder, I might be
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: mispronouncing that it was behind the paywall on ESPN plus,
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: he ranked the cores top five players he defined as
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: the core for every NFL team, and the Patriots ranked
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: twenty seventh. It was mac judea on, uh are you
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: looking this up there?
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: Because I know what you're talking about.
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: So the Patriots ranked twenty seventh in that there was
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: only two AFC teams behind them. Indianapolis and Houston were
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: the only two AFC teams behind them in terms of
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: the core of the team. And it's not necessarily young core,
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: like Aaron Rodgers is a core for the Jets right now.
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: So it's just the five players that you determine as
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: your core. So when you look at that Dougger, it
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: was it was Dougger Judon, Mac.
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: And I got to log in far more.
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: Ch I think was was one. So it should like
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: that's your core your team, right, you should think that
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: that's where your leaders are coming from.
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: Mac, Judon, Dougger, Mike on.
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: Win You okay, so Dougger and the when you were
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: in contract years O three, So three of the five
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: are in contract years. So you might say, like that's
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: where I wanted to come from. Well you have to
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: retain them. You know, a guy who's been around a
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: lot longer than people realize, Jonathan Jones, is he just
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: not that kind of a player. He's not really that
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: outspoken leader type.
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: No, I don't think so.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: So like sometimes just hard, you know, and you know
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: sometimes you know those kinds of guys like Willie and
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: Bruski and Vrabel, they don't they don't grow on Rodney,
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: they don't grow on trees.
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: I mean with them though, is the absence of that
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: something that you feel like the team lacks or is
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: it just something that has to develop organically as they
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: turn the corner and become a better team.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: I would go with b. I think that they need
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: talent more than they need you know, like I think
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: the bigger problem they have right now to me is
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: the lack of high end talent than the lack of leadership.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: Well, I think I think they need both. Of course,
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: I think you need that. You need those people you
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: know during the week who just regulate.
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: I wonder what, like, say, the leadership hierarchy is in
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: Los Angeles with the Chargers, for example, who I think
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: do have some high end talent. Now, I don't think
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: there's talented as a lot of people say they are,
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: but I do think they have a pretty talented roster,
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: certainly one that's built, built well enough to win a
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: playoff game. You know, they had a playoff game in
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: the bag last year that they kicked away. But I
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: wonder what that hierarchy looks like. I wonder what would
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: like Joey Bosa and Derwyn James, those kinds of players.
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: I wonder if that I don't know them, I'm not
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: telling you they don't, but I wonder if those guys
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: are strong leaders as well as being the best players.
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: And one part of that, too, I think is that
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: the guys we mentioned, the Patriot guys, those guys were
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: all kind of they weren't They didn't just come to
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: New England in ninety five ninety six and have it
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: like they went to AFC Championship, they went to Super Bowl,
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: they lost. I mean, they were established veterans who have
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: been here a while. But I'd like to tie this
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: actually to Paul and Matt's pats from the past with
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: Scott Peoli that I listened to, which was excellent, I mean,
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: different than the rest of them. And if if anybody
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: hasn't heard bullparts, they're they're great, except for the shot
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: Paul took a Sharon, but that asides. One of the
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: interesting things that Peoli said was that we never had
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: to worry about the locker room at all because Willie
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: and all those guys they had it on lock They
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: knew exactly what what needed to be done. They kept
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: everybody in line, and Bill and Romeo and Charlie and
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: all those guys could just focus on coaching, and you
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: know that. I think maybe that's where I kind of
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: got this initial idea in my head of you know,
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: certainly last year it seemed like the Lockman wasn't policing
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: itself like that there was I mean, it was it
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: was as divided.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: As it's probably been.
- 1:20:13Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, so just how do you how do
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: you get back to that?
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: And it's it's a tough question.
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: Jason writes in we should get the hot regardless of
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: his age, because simply having him on the field commands
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: respect and could open up other opportunities for the other
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: receivers such as Barren Thornton plus Casseki and Henry. We
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: need all the help we can get. Love the show.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: Side note, I don't think the Jets are going to
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: be as good as advertised with Rogers. Okay, was that.
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: Me like my burner or something I knew?
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: I took this service as a stunning line. I thought
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: among Patriots fans, I don't think that the Jets are
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: going to be as good as people right.
- 1:20:46Speaker 5: I thought when you brought up Paul Shows, I thought
- 1:20:49Speaker 5: you were going in a different direction, which I kind
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: of find interesting. This the biggest narrative around this team
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: right now is that the head coach and the quarterback
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: don't talk to each other at practice. Like that's that's
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: the biggest thing. I just think it's hilarious, Like I
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: think it's so funny that the people go out there
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: and like do you take notes of like, oh, Bill,
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: at this portion of practice. Bill is standing here in
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: Mac was standing there.
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: That's a big Greg bdardism, Like he goes on, he
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: goes on with them, and this is you can call
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: me like spiteful because they're not having me on. But
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: he goes on and that's what they talk about. And
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: he says, yeah, you know, Bill doesn't go anywhere near Mac,
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: Like how did you even know? Like why were you watching?
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: That?
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: Is my first My first reaction is geez, I get,
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: I guess that's true, but I didn't really notice it.
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: I just watched the practice.
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: Well, he keeps saying that Keon White wasn't at the
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: first practice because he was.
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: He said it again.
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: Did you hear he's probably spending too much time watching Bill?
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: And I did hear that when he was on on
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: Tuesday because Mike goes there. Well, I got, I gotta
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: let it go.
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: But he gave We gave Greg a little crap when
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: we were we did. We were on the side of
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: like out there are he reached out. But I gotta
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: be honest with you. I still don't think that he
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: believes that he was out there.
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: But so you guys, you guys don't make anything of
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: Bill and back not not being best.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: About I'll watch it now. I'll watch what I do
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: think if if they really don't talk, I don't think
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: that's good. No, he should be me. But I'm not
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: willing to accept the premise. Do you know what I mean? Somebody,
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: I haven't really noticed that that's the kid, but maybe it.
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: Is because your your shows. Then take it to the
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: next step and say that now mister Kraft has told
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: Bill that Bill O'Brien is in charge of the offense
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: and that Bill and Belichick needs to stay away from
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: the offense because Bill O'Brien, it's Bill O'Brien's show in Belichick.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: That's where I.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: Would completely divest of that, because Josh was in charge
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: of the offense. But Bill always talked to Tom, like
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: I know that Tom. Tom Curran has had this thing
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: that like the last nine years, they didn't really talk.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: They didn't Bill wasn't involved in the planning of the
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: offensive planning meetings, and that I'm not telling you with
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: one hundred percent certainty that that's not true. I don't
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: believe that to be true.
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: That they didn't talk to Tuesday meeting at the very end,
- 1:23:13Speaker 5: at the very end.
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that was true. I think Nick Cassario
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: was involved in those meetings with Josh and Tom, and
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: I don't think Bill was as involved as he was before.
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: But I've watched training camp for a hundred years and
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: I've seen Tom and Bill side by side all the
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: time for you know, certainly within the last nine years,
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: which is what it was sort of purported to be.
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: If they don't talk at all, and that's a thing,
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: like they really don't talk, that's a problem. Yeah, that's
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: like Dan Reeves, John Elway. Now you can win if
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: you if you're that good. But they hated each other.
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: But I it's a problem if they don't talk, because
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: that's just not a good way to run your team, right.
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: But at the same time, like I'm okay with Bill
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: O'Brien being the one that has the final running on
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: the conference, Bill Belichick, you got your chance last year
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: to run the offense and it didn't go so high,
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: So like, let's let's let's let somebody else do. It's like,
- 1:24:12Speaker 5: I'm okay with that.
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: We all wanted let's get back to normal, right, So
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: we got that, and Bill's running the offense and now
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: everybody's looking at like, whoa Bill O'Brien's running the offense.
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: Bill is.
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: Spellichick not talking to mac jont Well, that's a problem. Like, yeah,
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: I mean I think that we all want Bill O'Brien
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: to run the offense, but we still want the head
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: coach involved in everything, overseeing everything.
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: I want those Tuesday meetings still happening, but I want
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: Max sitting down picking BB's brain every Tuesday, you know.
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: Right, that was the whole thing was. You know, Camp
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: said that that Bill has like a crystal ball because
- 1:24:48Speaker 5: he breaks down the opposing defense as a defensive coach
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: and says, these are the three things that they're gonna
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: do to us schematically, and then he's able to then
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: tell the quarterback expect this. You look for that, like
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: those types of things, And that's what those Tuesday meetings
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: were all about. So if you're you got to have
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: that at least, but in terms of like the schematics
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: and the game plans and the schemes that they're installing
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: into the offense, like that's that's Bob show.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:25:14Speaker 4: You know what I didn't have on my BINGO card
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: was the picture that we put out on Twitter of
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: Belichick like apparently doing stand up comedy for Lagerrett Blunt
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: and uh and.
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: Aaron Dobson like that.
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: I like, and he builds like telling him a joke,
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: like he looked like he was doing the stuff, Like
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: I missed the whole thing, like Chung and everybody.
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: I also got to talk to Adler about why he
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: keeps on taking photos of other reporters. What about the
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: reporters the Patriots dot com. He's always putting pictus of escular.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: I don't restrain, I don't need anything.
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: I made a picture of Polly Perillo.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: How many cameras are on you?
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: How about me in my chair? My cool?
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: You know, come on, I might need the chair.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: Merphs and Connecticut on the Acetic hotline. What's up, Murphy?
- 1:25:57Speaker 18: Gentlemen, For the.
- 1:26:01Speaker 7: First time in a decade, I'm calling into a show.
- 1:26:05Speaker 7: It is it is. It is pronounced city sew sewing machine.
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: So that's the third that's the third third different.
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: I think I got it wrong in my explanation.
- 1:26:17Speaker 7: Soon, great, great show today, guys. And Gonzales. Yeah, he's
- 1:26:23Speaker 7: got to start week one. The only thing everybody is
- 1:26:25Speaker 7: is missing here is we don't need Gonzales to be
- 1:26:30Speaker 7: a shutdown corner for everybody's number one. We need Gonzales
- 1:26:34Speaker 7: to be a shutdown corner for everybody's number two.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: That's it.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: Huh, Okay, have a great day. Yeah, I mean, by
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: the way, no, I mean that's been a way to
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: do it. You know in the past, you put your
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: best guy in there two and then you double their one.
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: I don't like that.
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I like it.
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not saying, like week one, he has to
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: shut down the other team's best player, but eventually I
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: need him to be that kind of a player that
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: I can line up against the other team's best player
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: and I feel good about that.
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Like I said, doesn't have to be like
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: right away, right, but when I yeah that that guy
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: eventually needs to be a guy feel good about every
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: matchup that he's involved.
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: So week one, you see on a J. Brown or
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: DeVante Smith sides, well this is.
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: This is like my whole thing about like he just
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: needs to shut down the number two.
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: Okay, so who's the number two?
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: Who's the number two?
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: That's why I'm asking.
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I don't like the idea of you
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: shut down the number two and then double the one.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: I don't like that.
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: I think just play sides.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: I mean, are they still a travel team like in Man?
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: I don't know if that's still going to be a thing.
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: Like they played man like thirty five percent of the
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: time last year, which was high. Believe it or not.
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: That how much time? Yeah, which is like eighth highest
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: in the league.
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: Thirty five percent man is eighth highest in the league. See,
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: those are numbers, you know how. I always like, I
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: need you know where the numbers relate. That to me,
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: sounds like a low.
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: Learn that from.
- 1:28:07Speaker 5: I just say that. You always say the teams play
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: a lot less man than you would be less to believe.
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: Certainly less than I would believe, because it's hard.
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: It's hard, Franklin and Baltimore writes, and I wanted to
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: comment on something brought up on the last show, which
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: is that isn't the reason why the fans discuss so
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: much about the cost of signing players, because Bill's cost
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: effective approach has been his mo o during his tenure here. Yes,
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: I too find the whole thing pointless to talk about
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: because none of that money is coming out of our
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: respective pockets, and we should want the Patriots to sign
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: every good player. But I do think also as a fan,
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: we can't ignore the BB value skill position players specifically
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: at different differently than the rest of the league, which
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: is why myopically we go over contracts. I do want
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: to stress again that I find the topic pointless and
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: don't engage with it personally.
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: I think I think he's right. No, I think he's
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: absolutely right. I think Bill has brainwashed the fandom into
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: thinking that's why they've had success.
- 1:29:12Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: And I also because of financial Uh.
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: Couldn't agree more.
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: I mean, I don't responsibility. Of the top of my.
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: Head, I couldn't tell you like the three worst contracts
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: he's given up, but I can tell you the three
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: worst draft picks that he's given up. Like the draft
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: picks is what that when you go to try to
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: get like you spend a second round pick on Mohammed Sanu. Like,
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: that's the things that bugged me. As far as Ben
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: burning assets, he.
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: Has convinced everybody that wide receivers are a dime a dozen,
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: that overpaying for wide receivers and drafting receivers in the
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: first round, which they've only ever done one time and
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: we know how that turned out, and paying them in
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: free agency or trading five draft picks for Tyreek Hill
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: is a ridiculous trade, and he has convinced people that
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: is to be is that's true? And I disagree with
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: him on it, Like that's that's one of my biggest
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: pet peeves up with him out of all of it,
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: especially just looking at how maybe that was true twenty
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: years ago, but that is no longer true now. And
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: I think the rest of the teams around the league.
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: So you know, Philly they spent a first round pick
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: on Devonte Smith and they traded for A J. Brown?
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: Are they in a bad shape? Did they do it poorly? Like?
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: You know, it's not just because I feel this way
- 1:30:26Speaker 5: because I like fantasy football, like these other teams that
- 1:30:29Speaker 5: have done it differently than you are in the Super Bowl.
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say the two parts of that are
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: the salary cap itself was once an enormous part of
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: how you You couldn't just sign every great player that
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: you want. He talked about the peel in yeah, and
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: I even got Scotts would make it.
- 1:30:46Speaker 6: Ye.
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: You know back then when you were dealing with like
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: one hundred million dollar salary cap, give or take, Yeah,
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: you couldn't afford to be making too many mistakes. You
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: couldn't afford to be signing all of the best players
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: because you did have to find a way to get
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: enough players in to help you. Now that the cap
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: is not anywhere near as restrictive, people have learned how
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: to go like that learned Floyd contract that Buffalo signed.
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: It's ridiculous. That shouldn't be allowed. You shouldn't be able
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: to do that. You sign him, so the guy makes
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: something like nine million dollars and you're only paying him
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: like two on the cap because he's got like incentive
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: for this and void year for that, and it's just
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: all a bunch of crap. It's all bookkeeping, is all
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: the salary cap is. And yeah, if you do that
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: and lended Floyd stinks. Yeah it's not great. But if
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: he's good, it's not gonna hurt you next year, you know.
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: And I just don't really understand why people haven't figured
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: that out yet. And that's that it's the financial landscape
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: of the league has changed so dramatically.
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: And that's where the cash spending argument comes in because
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: other teams like the Eagles, you know, to use them
- 1:31:59Speaker 5: as as an example, they pay their way out of
- 1:32:02Speaker 5: cap jail. So they add these void years or they
- 1:32:06Speaker 5: you know, convert salary to signing bonuses and they just
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: literally pay their way out of hell. You know, New
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: Orleans they do it every year. Every year New Orleans
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: is like fifty million dollars over the cap, and every
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: year they somehow figure out a way to be under
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: When the time the.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: Individual season I always use for the Patriots is seven,
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: you couldn't be all any more all in than the
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: Patriots were in seven. They were aggressive and free agency.
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: They signed big money players, they traded for guys. They
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: gave a guy like Wes Welker. At the time, that
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: was a big contract. Seven. I know it sounds stupid,
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: five years, seventeen million. At the time, that was a
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: big contract, and they went all in. It's it. They
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: didn't win and it didn't fall apart. It didn't fall
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: apart like it was the next year the quarterback towards
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: ACL and they still went eleven and five. That's how
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: good that team was. It's one of the it's one of.
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: Paul's most interesting takes that you have in your in
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: your take bag of they could have got more.
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: You know, had they been more aggressed that they could.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: That's more of an off air one. That's not one
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: I like to share on because I understand a how
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: spoiled it makes me sound, and b it's like comes
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: off as like I'm criticizing Belichick at the winning six titles,
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: but I don't necessarily mean it that way. But I
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: do feel like if they were all in a little
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: bit more like does anybody does anybody anywhere, forget New England?
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: Does anybody anywhere not think that the Patriots would have
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: beat in Chicago you O six and the Super Bowl? Right?
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: Of course they would.
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: Okay, So what.
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: Was that contract you were holding on?
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: Why did you Why did you lose to the Colts?
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: Besides the fact that they pumped the flu into the
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: locker room front, they lost of the Colts because that
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: game was in Indy? Does anybody think that.
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: India would have come back from twenty one?
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: You're getting to my point. That game was in Indy
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: because you had Rehae Caldwell as your number one receiver
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: and Gabbard Gaffney signed off the street in the middle
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: of the year and Doug Gabriel catching passes. That's the
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: only reason why you were on the road in the
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: AFC Championship game that you still should have won. Yeah.
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: So like if you had tried everything in your power
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: to keep either Givens or Branch, that's another title.
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: Yeah right, Branch. I mean what was the branch?
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: When?
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: What was he hung up over? Like in retrospect, it
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: probably seems ridiculous and everybody just.
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: Looks wouldn't give him that? No, he probably did get overpaid,
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: but you would have won another super Bowl if you
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: kept him.
- 1:34:32Speaker 4: And who's like lamenting, Well we got one, but you know,
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: we really played on Branch a lot of money more
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: than I would have given him. But like who, like
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: who roots that way?
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: That's more of an off air because.
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: I'll save that one.
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: It's a take.
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: It's a good one though, just sounds so spoiled.
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: But I think it's an interesting it's an interesting discussion,
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: you know. I mean, like, look, we are spoiled, and
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: you know half the time it's you know, going in
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: the other direction. You know you're complaining, but I don't.
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: Know, there's so many things, even for great teams, so
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: many things have to happen to go all the way
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: and to do it as many times it's it's like
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: I I can't you know, maybe they could have won more,
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: but the fact that they won six I think is amazing.
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: It is, and that's why I don't like to spend
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: a lot of time doing that one. I'll talk about
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: it off here with anybody.
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: I just I will never forget Caldwell's wide eyes after
- 1:35:18Speaker 5: he dropped the ball, and.
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: Just Sam Martin hasn't gotten his T shirt, Matt Jeez.
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: Sam Martin, former returner for the Patriots. So Sammy Martin.
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: He was the one that answered where Evans's favorite sub
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: shop is. He says he hasn't gotten his jersey mics.
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: He turned that for lunch.
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: I've had some operational turnover in the admin department.
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: Oh the shipping are you?
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: Are you putting stamp postage on these things? You're just
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: like throwing it in the mail, these pre packaged ones,
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: pre pat you still have to put postage on it,
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: you know, not these ones.
- 1:35:52Speaker 12: You just put it in and fill out the address
- 1:35:54Speaker 12: and then send them in.
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: Are you sure about that? That's just an envelope.
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: People have gotten their T shirts with these.
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: There's nothing I don't know about that.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: I think you still have to run it through the
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: postage meter. I don't know. I think there's some people
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: at the US Post Office that are getting free T
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: shirts Patriots on Filish Bob and Wilmington, North Carolina. Should
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: the Patriots really concern themselves with trying to outperform Buffalo?
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: All they do is choke. They've never been able to
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: perform when everything's on the line, and that includes their
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: newest choker, Josh Allen, who subsequently just got on the
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: cover of this year's Madden You know what that means
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: insert bone cracking sound here, lifted. Buffalo had their chances
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: back in the Kelly years, blew it, and they all
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: squander these years they have with Alan and choke some more,
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: and just like Paulo says, it always works out for
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: the Patriots. Can you think of any other team that
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: has choked more ever in the history of the world.
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: Don't worry about Buffalo this year. The Patriots are going
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: to re establish themselves as the class of the AFC
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: East and roll into the Super Bowl.
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: Okay, you had me with like that. Don't worry about Buffalo,
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: But when you get to that end that stuff.
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: I think there are some questions about Buffalo. Yeah, I
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: think there are kind of a crossroads. But I would say,
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: is it you know, I'll give you a controversial take.
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: So the four, the four in a row that they lost, right,
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: they choked four times, wide left, they choked once, yeah,
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: wide left, wide right, whatever it was. Right, I was like,
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: that was a choke. They were better than the Giants,
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: nor would the other three games. They weren't better than
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: the team they lost to, especially the two Cowboys teams
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: right and last year. I think you could call that
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: a choke. That's a bad You can lose to Cincinnati
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: at home, like like Kansas City lost at Cincinnati at
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: home the year before, but you can't lose like that.
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: They didn't they didn't show up. Yeah, the didn't come
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: to play. Now, I think there's some extenuating circumstances, but
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: that was a choke. I don't care, Like, I don't
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: care what Buffalo guys want to, you know, write it
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: off as.
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: Taking some offfield stuff going on for that game.
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: Oh yeah, his guy, Mike's guy Diggs has been bitchy.
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: For for a while. Then Josh Allen got broken up
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: with Oh really like two days before the game.
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't know that. He's rebounded pretty well, all right? Uh,
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: Is that true? Yeah, punters quarterback? Did he tell you
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: that when you met him?
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: Because you guys are actually but she was with him
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: when I when I did it look like and it
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: looks and then that they gave the Patriots and and
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: they happened they broke up. Yeah, and and oh this
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: is like a whole rabbit hole that Bill's twitter has.
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: That's not good news for Patriots. No, that's not good
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: news for Patriots fans.
- 1:38:39Speaker 5: So we come on here and we talk about like
- 1:38:41Speaker 5: how you know, Bill and Mac don't talk to each other.
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: They go on Bill's podcast and talk about Hailey Steinfeld
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: and like, is this good for Josh Allen that he's
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: dating Hailey Steinfeld? This is this is real?
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: His lady before the playoff game, his lady.
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: Dramas all over Buffalo right now.
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: I just also with him, Like I just anytime you're
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: going into a season with a quarterback who's like, you know,
- 1:39:02Speaker 4: really you'd think on top of his game talking about
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: how he has to change his game and stop taking
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: chances and stuff like I just I wouldn't like that
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: if I was, you know, if I was a Buffalo
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: fan hearing that my quarterback is now in his own head,
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: questioning how he's going to play, because I think some
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: of the times he's most dangerous is when he just
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: lets it rip, when he goes for it, you know.
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: And I know it's dangerous, but I just wonder if
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: you're going to get a Josh Allen this year who's
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: questioning himself on top of guys like Digs starting to
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: be like, come on, like the window we like, this
- 1:39:30Speaker 4: is it we got to win?
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: Is their stadium is supposed to be open six That
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: was like a crazy little win in twenty twenty five.
- 1:39:37Speaker 5: But it's a good point about their window. And their
- 1:39:42Speaker 5: window is now clearly and they'll be in it with
- 1:39:45Speaker 5: Josh Allen, I think until he he.
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: Shows signs of not being able to fit play anymore.
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: But I truly think that their window to maximize what
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: they can put around him is happening right now. And
- 1:39:57Speaker 5: his playing style it it's his playing side. It's like
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: Brett Favre right, like are you going to reel in
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: the Gunslinger? Or are you going to just live and
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: die with it? You know? And and they've been living
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: and dying with it and dying so uh.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: Boston Cream writes in congratulations to Evan on having a girlfriend.
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: Eric could never so an obvious upgrade there.
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: That's another good point. Kills it, kills it.
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: Thanks.
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: Let's see what are the base numbers if you were
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: to guess that mac Jones needs to get the fifth
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: year option from the team. So, like, how what's the
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: minimum he has to do performance wise for the Patriots
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: to say, Okay, we'll give you the option if.
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: You combine Daniel Jones's entire production, Like, Ma's not going
- 1:40:41Speaker 5: to rush for six hundred yards, so add that to
- 1:40:43Speaker 5: his passing total. If he has the same year that
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: Daniel Jones had last year production wise, then he'll get
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: the fifth year option.
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:40:52Speaker 3: Back in the day, the Super Bowl used to be on
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: at four o'clock.
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: Now, this was the the game Brady was at. Is
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: that that?
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, the catch game?
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: The catch right?
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: I just love no, I I like I like Devin's
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: thing there of Daniel Jones because I think that's, you know,
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: you're not asking him to be Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen.
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: You're asking him to do something average. And I think,
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: chances are you guys are probably gonna be surprised. My answered.
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: Chances are they they'll pick up his option.
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: Well, just good to have the team control. Like, even
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: if you don't end up being the team that keeps
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: him on the fifth year option, just to have the
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: the option to keep him around is probably the smart thing.
- 1:41:34Speaker 4: I'm just not hung up on stats, like I mean,
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: it's fine, but like I don't have I'd much rather
- 1:41:39Speaker 4: have like see him, you know, go four in tune
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: the division, you know, like knock off Buffalo and knock
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: off Miami or knock off Kansas City. You know, just
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: get a game where your backs up against the wins
- 1:41:49Speaker 4: games like just show me that and show me you
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: know that you've got some clutching the reason.
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: Win some games in different ways either reason from behind.
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: I brought up Daniel Jones two because of the They're
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: the Giant season last year. The arrow was pointing in
- 1:42:04Speaker 5: the right direction for that team. I'm not a Daniel
- 1:42:06Speaker 5: Jones believer, but they won a playoff game that they
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: probably shouldn't have won right by beating Minnesota, and they're
- 1:42:13Speaker 5: they're headed in the right direction, you would think with Dable.
- 1:42:16Speaker 5: So if that's the way that it looks in a
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: year from now, the Patriots win a playoff game, with
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: Mac Jones, and things are on the upward trajectory, I'd
- 1:42:23Speaker 5: feel pretty good about picking it.
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: Up Speing fres though this may seem overly simplistic, but
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: maybe the lack of rising young leaders is an artifact
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: of the brain drain and lack of reliable leadership on
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: the coaching staff. If you rightly or wrongly think your
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: bosses are boobs, there's not much to emulate in, not
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: much motivation to even try. Wow, I mean, I'm sure.
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: Look like it's all connected. I mean, I don't think
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: you can rule any any part of it out, just
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: like you can't put you know, one specific thing like
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: you know, it's it's all part of it. I mean,
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: you've lost a lot of coaches over the years. You've
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: lost i mean upper management guy as you had Bill
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: going in seven.
- 1:43:01Speaker 3: Different directions last year.
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: It's you know, it's just it hasn't been what it
- 1:43:04Speaker 4: usually was, that established kind of hierarchy. Everything's covered, you
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: know who's doing what, and you know, I mean I
- 1:43:10Speaker 4: do think like you know, And this goes back to,
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: you know, to Paul's podcast with Pioli talking about you know,
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: the slappies and stuff that we're on that you know,
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: you wonder are the Evan Rothsteins of the world or
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: you know, I think the DeMarcus Covington's of the world
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: certainly are are developing into that. You know, is this
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: the next level of those kind of coaches? And now,
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: you know, and here in this year, in twenty twenty three,
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: are those guys have they now acquired enough experience where
- 1:43:34Speaker 4: he can just start getting some better returns?
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: I mean, I think I think Mike pael Green has.
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: Done a really good job with with the cornerbacks that
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: he's been given and and you know, those guys have
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: all been pretty pretty productive, and you know, they just
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: they need more of it.
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: Though, Yeah, I also would say, like why wouldn't that
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: like more encourage guys to be more if they if
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: they had questions about their coaching, which I don't really
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: think they do. I think they had questions about Matt
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: Patricia and Joe Judge being in Judge of the offense
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: last year, like let's not make this out to be
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: now that they're all surrounded by boobs. But if you
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: had questions about the coaching, you woul get wouldn't that
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: encourage you to be more apt to try to lead
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: like listen.
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: It it depends, It depends on the guy. Like some guys
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: just give up what's the point, but other guys would lead.
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: But see, now I've been critical of Mac, but I
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: think you could say a lot of things about how
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: Mac handled last year. Giving up is not one of
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: the things I would say about him.
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: No, I think reaching out to the you know, Alabama,
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: if it's true, is not a sign of giving up, right,
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: a sign of doing whatever he thinks he needs.
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: But I even think that whole thing of like the
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: quote unquote gang of five, that that's kind of a
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: sign of leadership, like we need to do it. Yeah,
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: we need to do this because we're not doing it right.
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: We need to do it this way, like in a
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: weird way, Kendrick.
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: Bourne rather have a gang of fifty three.
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: But no, no, no, But I'm just saying in terms
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: of this is more about a specific thing with Patricia
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: and Judge, but in a weird way with Kendrick Bourne,
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: did if he was in meetings and they were teaching
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: the offense his offense and offense that he was familiar
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: with incorrectly in a weird way, He's that's leadership. Yeah,
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: And I've been critical of Kendrick Porn too, but more
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: as a player, not necessarily because he wasn't happy with
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: the way that they were teaching stuff if he thought
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: if he thought they were teaching it wrong, and he
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: was voicing that, I think that's leadership.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: All right, quick? Who am my game?
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: Righty am?
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: I These are all Belichick era Patriots. I got a
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: Super Bowl MVP truck despite not winning the award. Malcolm
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: Butler incorrect, although it might be correct, but this isn't
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: the one I caught Tom Brady's last touchdown as a Patriot.
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: Josh Gordon, No, you can't guess again, Evan, you're out.
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: And I split reps in high school with Giovanni Bernard
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: James White. James White is correct.
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: I'm also right about Malcolm Butler, but I think you're right.
- 1:45:58Speaker 3: But yeah, how did he How did James White get
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: a truck? Super Bowl truck?
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: I think Brady gave him his truck after the Seattle game.
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: Now that was twenty eighty three.
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: I think he's right. Twenty eight gave the truck to
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: Malcolm Butler.
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: He gave a twenty eight three game.
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: The twenty eight to three game would have been the
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: Seattle game, Falcons would have been I think Evans right.
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: No, I know, right, so the game unless he did
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: it twice. I'm pretty sure he gave it to Butler
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: after the Seattle game.
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: That's what I just said.
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: Then you said twenty eight three. That's not the same game.
- 1:46:29Speaker 5: No, I said twenty eight to three.
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: Oh, okay, I missed because we are missing. I met
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: James Sattle.
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: Don't made me go all eric on you.
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: Yes, friend, I meant to see That's what I said.
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: I meant the Seattle game.
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: I think I think Evans right. Well, it could have
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: happened both times, you know how I always agree with that.
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: Couldn't have happened both times.
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: Patriots CB Malcolm Butler always keeps Super Bowl MVP truck.
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: Yeah no, But but did he also give.
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: Me also James White?
- 1:46:54Speaker 5: I don't know, but I'm gonna say I was right.
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: I said, you didn't take Malcolm Butler's rock and give
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: it to James White.
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: I said, you could be right, but it might have
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: been another time.
- 1:47:04Speaker 4: That's that's twenty seventeen I took.
- 1:47:06Speaker 5: So Tom Brady also gave one to James White twice
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: three Tom Brady, but apparently James White no longer has
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: said truck.
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: Okay, let's see next one. I have played both offense
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: and defense for the Patriots. Julian could be wrong, so
- 1:47:26Speaker 2: you're out.
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: That's why I didn't guess.
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: I was a team captain for one season.
- 1:47:33Speaker 4: One season.
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: Finally, my one touchdown may or may not have been
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: a trick play, depending on if you were talking to
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: fred Or and Roberts.
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: I knew it after the captain one, but I was out.
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: That's a giveaway. I have been to one super Bowl
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: but lost. That could be a lot of people. I
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: caught my first touchdown reception from Jacoby Myers.
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: Rex perkad incorrect.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: Think about it though, there eight thirty two or is
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: better than me.
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: Kim Newton pass from Jacobin he did against Baltimore. Yeah,
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: Kim Newton did yep, Yeah, yeah he did.
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: No, I remember him throwing one to Birdhead. I mean
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: my mind that corner of the Yeah, in the far.
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: Instances, you know, so you know, once Super Bowl it
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: was you immediately think, who are the Patriots? Right?
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: You know, but it's tricky.
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: All right, Yeah, that's a good that the one super
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: Bowl and lost. That was a good little wrinkle.
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: Yep, my father was also an NFL player.
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: My father was also an NFL player.
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: I am a Ron Burton Award winner.
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: Wise incorrect, Matthew.
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: Matthew Slater is correct because he eats a lot of dogs. Finally,
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: I left the Patriots for another team, but came back
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: after it didn't go well.
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: Everybody.
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I have a bit of a no one. I
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: cost the team two ot as because I'm a double
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: agent trying to deliberately sabotage the Patriot.
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: Judge, double agent.
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: He's just kidding, of course. Yeah, let's see what else.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: James McLeod our, resident artist, has a rendering of young
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: Evan speaking as Jesus in the Temple to all the people.
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: I didn't make No, I did, oh proud.
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know if I'm sure that will lend
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: up on Twitter at some point.
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you'd a good T shirt for Paul the other day.
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: Uh what are we doing?
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: T shirt? Yeah?
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: I liked that we got to print those up.
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: Josh from half Moon, New York writes in I have
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: two topics I like to bring up. My Patriots topic
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: is with the Patriots having plenty of cap space for
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: next off season, over one hundred million projected by over
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: the Cap. Do you see them spending any of that
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: with extensions this preseason or in or in season? And
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: who do you think would be in line for a
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: decent extension?
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the Douger new chair definitely. I think
- 1:50:21Speaker 4: that's kind of mo for them too, is his extensions
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: are looked at maybe August September. I think Jonathan Jones
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: maybe a couple of years ago, got his.
- 1:50:30Speaker 5: Chant on that time.
- 1:50:31Speaker 4: And I think you get guys in you see how
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: they look in camp, and if you feel like the
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: trajectory is continuing of what you think on the guy,
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: then then that's usually when they make the move. But
- 1:50:39Speaker 4: you know, there't hasn't been a lot of those guys.
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: Off season topic is mainly for Fred. My daughter will
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: be competing in a national dance competition being held in
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: Sandwich this summer, so we'll be out there for a week.
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: I'd like to know the five best places to eat
- 1:50:53Speaker 2: in Sandwich. Wow, that's a lot. Yeah. So if you
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: want seafood, the way it goes it's bottom rung is
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: seafood SAMs good. But and then it goes the pilot
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: house and then it goes Fisherman's View. But if you
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: want fried chicken, you go to Seafood SAMs. It's a
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: hidden gym, seafood SAMs.
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: And this is all in Sandwich, all in Sandwich.
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: They're all down by the Marina, the canal there Belfrey.
- 1:51:16Speaker 2: The Belfry is a good place. If you want Italian,
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: you go to Tomatoes, not to be confused with Sweet Tomatoes,
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: which is a pizza place. You go to Tomatoes, great,
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: great Italian.
- 1:51:28Speaker 4: I dated a girl from Sandwich briefly in college. To me,
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: we spent some time in the cool Sandwich Sandwich harbor.
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't say what she looked like.
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: Over under game ready? Ramandre Stevenson combined yards fifteen fifteen
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: fifty and fifty under.
- 1:51:47Speaker 5: I'm going under.
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: I'm gonna say under, okay because of the added options team.
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: Rushing yards nineteen fifty.
- 1:51:55Speaker 3: What they rush for last year?
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: Wait, come on, I can tell you if you can give.
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: Me the number from last ye because they were terrible
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: running team last year. I got you eighteen eighteen and change.
- 1:52:05Speaker 3: I want to say, yeah, eighteen twelve. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: say over.
- 1:52:07Speaker 5: I'm going to say over as well.
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: Have to be better over the eighteen twelve Yeah, there
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: you go. Taekwon Thornton combined yards seven hundred and fifty com.
- 1:52:16Speaker 5: Bind What what do you mean combined? Like he's gonna
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: get four hundred rushing?
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: It could have ends. Sweet, I'm going I'm going to
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: say under.
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: But I think my my like realistic hope for him,
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: would you know be in the like fifty fifty catches
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: five six.
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: Hundred team receiving yards forty one hundred.
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: Such, just better be over. Passing yards are team receiving
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: because those are two different things.
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: Oh, team receiving.
- 1:52:40Speaker 4: Oh yeah, they don't have that on here. They threw
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: for thirty five hundred yards last year.
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: Passing yards take sacks out of it, right, But I'm
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: going to say over has to be over. I'm going
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: to say, if I have to live to another year
- 1:52:53Speaker 3: where I watch an NFL team not be able to
- 1:52:55Speaker 3: throw the ball, no you won't have that. I don't
- 1:52:58Speaker 3: make enough of that twenty one Mac Jones touchdown twice
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: in the last three years. I had to sit through that.
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: Mac Jones touchdowns versus interceptions twenty four to ten.
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: He is twenty two and like twelve over.
- 1:53:11Speaker 3: Say over, what does that mean, I'm going to say
- 1:53:13Speaker 3: over both, over twenty four and over ten.
- 1:53:15Speaker 4: Okay, I'm going to say twenty eight fourteen.
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: I'm gonna say under ten. I think it's gonna be
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: better protecting the ball, but I'm gonna I'm gonna say
- 1:53:23Speaker 5: I'm under on both. I think they're going to run it.
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: In defensive touchdowns eight, I gotta go under.
- 1:53:29Speaker 19: There.
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: Isn't that a lot?
- 1:53:30Speaker 3: Yeah year last year?
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: Yeah, defensive interceptions twenty four.
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: Got no streme of reference.
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: I'm gonna say. I'm going to say under. Yeah, they
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: had a lot last year.
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: Average penalty yards per game forty five under punch really
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: under okay, and Parlo nods five.
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: Oh that under under totally.
- 1:53:55Speaker 4: I mean, they could be winning with like one minute left,
- 1:53:57Speaker 4: and I think you'd be like, I don't know yet.
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: We'll see what happens because they're tight.
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: Other games are tight.
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: But yeah, I'll give you the nod when I think
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: it's deserved.
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: But yeah, would you ever give the nod to this
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: Patriots team in the first quarter of any game, even
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: if they were a first quarter?
- 1:54:11Speaker 3: No, not unless there was like snowing and the other
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: team look cold like the Arizona Cardinals in a way.
- 1:54:17Speaker 2: Chris and Denmark has a public service announcement that the
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: tickets for the Germany games will be out on July eleventh.
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: Oh so Patriots fancit tickets? Buy them up? We want to.
- 1:54:28Speaker 5: I have gotten quite a few dms about I'm like, sorry,
- 1:54:34Speaker 5: I can't help you with that. Sorry, can you give
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: me that?
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: Media gush?
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: A little known fact according to Matt Cook, who's from Rochester.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: He says James White also got a truck from Conan
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: O'Brien after the twenty eight three Falcon super Bowl. This
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: was after he gave away the truck that Brady gave me.
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: Like, I don't want a truck. Stop giving me truck, right,
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: I'm not a truck guy.
- 1:54:56Speaker 5: I think he gave like the Brady truck to like charity,
- 1:54:59Speaker 5: like so like the boys and girl could use it something. Yeah,
- 1:55:02Speaker 5: you know, James, it sound like he gave it away
- 1:55:05Speaker 5: to like his neighbors. Something is there?
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: Is there a newer media guy?
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: This is old? This is the nineteen that's the newest.
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: That's the only one we got.
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: Okay, I should break another one down here, though.
- 1:55:17Speaker 2: Uh let's see David writes, and when we go undefeated
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: in the preseason, with future Hall of Fame quarterback Malie
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: Cunningham leading the charge, Could we finally get our undefeated
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: preseason champions t shirts? Or more likely, will the USPS
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: workers get to use those as a new uniform. That's
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: kind of a shot at Matt.
- 1:55:39Speaker 4: That's like it would be interesting though. If Hopkins does
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: sign with the Titans, we'll get a up close look
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: at him there week three three three?
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: How come we can good guys like that Dustin Jack
- 1:55:51Speaker 5: Jones or.
- 1:55:52Speaker 4: Something blows his knee out? Thank god I went the
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: other way.
- 1:55:57Speaker 5: That was that was dark.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: This some Enrique who does really good trivia, right, have
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: some really good ones. Maybe we can fly through. We
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: got a few minutes. Rique's from Monterey. Question one, We
- 1:56:11Speaker 2: all know the largest Super Bowl blowouts were from the
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: an NFC team over an AFC team, and he lists
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: them all. But what AFC team holds the largest blowout
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: over an NFC team?
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: Raiders over Washington correct.
- 1:56:26Speaker 2: Thirty eight nine and nineteen eighty three. Who is the
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: only player in NFL history to win a Heisman, an
- 1:56:33Speaker 2: NFL MVP, and a Super Bowl MVP? Desmond Howard, Not
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: at Desmond Howard no Heisman, NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP.
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: Marcus Allen, Oh, these are times. Yeah. Dallas versus Rams,
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: Now we gotta hurry. Dallas versus Rams, San Francisco versus
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: Green Bay in Dallas versus Francisco have played nine times
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: against each other in the playoffs, tied for the most
- 1:57:04Speaker 2: in NFL history. What AFC matchup has played each other
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: the most? Pat's Colts incorrect?
- 1:57:11Speaker 3: What is the question?

- 1:57:31Speaker 5: Oh yeah, that was a great game.
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: Two more questions. Two teams played each other a record
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: four consecutive years in the playoffs.
- 1:57:41Speaker 3: What two teams played each other four years.
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: In the playoffs?
- 1:57:45Speaker 20: Four?
- 1:57:49Speaker 4: You're doings Colts there.
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: I'll give you a hint. The years were ninety five

- 1:57:57Speaker 2: Denver incorrect, Green Bay and San Francisco.
- 1:58:03Speaker 5: These are very obscure alday.
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: Finally, since the merger in nineteen seventy. These two teams
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: have faced each other twelve times. However, one of the
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: teams has never beaten the other team, making it the
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: only matchup in the history with that weird fact. They've
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: played twelve times, but one team has never beat the other.
- 1:58:25Speaker 5: Steelers Cardinals.
- 1:58:27Speaker 4: No, no, I don't know.
