- 0:47Welcome back. Corner podcast.
- 0:50My name is Curtis Wilson. I'm Brian
- 1:15Tell me that we just we just ran Kirsch off the mound.
- 1:18So if you did back Gaffers. Yes sir.
- 1:22Y'all are. Y'all are loose man.
- 1:25Y'all are the losses of the four teams left.
- 1:27Y'all are having fun in The Dugout.
- 1:30I mean, I'm sure you're loaded with some beers just 26, so you
- 1:35got a couple more Innings as if Bryan has any outbursts.
- 1:40While we're recording in these last you know basically four
- 1:43Innings, we will not edit them out, y'all will hear it live.
- 1:47I will keep it to a minimum or at least try to you.
- 1:52Do you man, somebody takes one out the park I want to hear if
- 1:55celebratory yell. All right.
- 1:57Well, folks. Obviously every week, you know,
- 2:01we do know the enemy. We're going to hit that in a
- 2:03second. But earlier this week, pretty
- 2:07big announcement came down and And it's one of those things
- 2:11that really in my opinion, is a game changer for NCAA.
- 2:20The NCAA in general, I'm going to read the bread Meat Market
- 2:22week on the NCAA Council approved.
- 2:25A proposal to allow one time transfers and all sports without
- 2:30sitting out a season, it will vote on it in January for final
- 2:33approval and sources are told Stadium who what move are free
- 2:37works for if approved? This would become effective,
- 2:41August 1st of 2021, Brian. Give me your first initial
- 2:46thoughts on how this affects the Hokies.
- 2:50I mean it could be nothing but good things for us, we've seen
- 2:52how we dealt with both the transfer portal coupled with
- 2:57some of the problems we've had getting that immediate
- 2:59eligibility for some of the bigger name guys, we've got that
- 3:01came in whether it's Brock or Burmeister that didn't get
- 3:05approved or read last year, they got approved upon appeal, we
- 3:11won't have to deal with that anymore and we're showing that
- 3:13when we bring guys in from the transfer portal, they're getting
- 3:17on the field, they're producing. We were able to show that.
- 3:22Hey, when you come here, you're coming here to play and play Big
- 3:26Time. Looking at what Justice Reed has
- 3:28done looking at what Khalil, Herbert's done, just in this
- 3:31young season already? I mean, that's gotta be a good
- 3:35thing for us, especially as we're trying to kind of clean up
- 3:38a good, but not as good as we wanted 2021 class.
- 3:44Absolutely, I'm with you. I think it does.
- 3:46I think it benefits not only the so I think it benefits everyone
- 3:50that's not a blue blood because, you know, to your point.
- 3:56Now you're evaluating the talent.
- 3:58We're doing a good job of that at the Collegiate level, but
- 4:01something that someone we follow on Twitter, follows the show,
- 4:06tweet it out and I love this. This is hokey pharmacist out
- 4:09there. More like this protects, the
- 4:12kids that are often misled in high school.
- 4:14They deserve a second chance and if we are if they are not a good
- 4:18fit but can Excel elsewhere and I think that sums it up because
- 4:22and that's why I mentioned, this is going to run benefit the blue
- 4:25blood, the Blue Bloods, who are selling essentially their
- 4:27Prestige. We're top five University kid
- 4:31gets there and they're not a fit in there.
- 4:37Like this is not what we've talked about before Brown.
- 4:40This is not What I sold? Yeah, I don't want to be here.
- 4:44Like, I'm basically like they recruited me to steal me away
- 4:49from someone else. Well, now, you don't have to
- 4:52worry. I'm transfer right away.
- 4:54I got to where I probably truly should have been.
- 4:58So, you know, the mean, now, the recruiting once a guy sounds the
- 5:03LOI, it still doesn't stop because if you were one of those
- 5:06final couple for kid, I'm not saying you got to go crazy.
- 5:11But I think it's one of those things where it's going to be,
- 5:14check on them, every. Hey, how's it going?
- 5:16How's life? How's school?
- 5:18Treating, you. you know, because it's the game grows bigger and
- 5:25if you have one of those four or five star kids who essentially
- 5:28chooses the prestige over, probably a fit Maybe you don't
- 5:33lose them one year. You definitely don't, you're not
- 5:36going to unfriend or unfollow a guy on Facebook or Instagram or
- 5:41Twitter just because they commit to another school.
- 5:44Now, you're definitely going to continue following what they're
- 5:48doing, how they're doing and see if, you know, another
- 5:52connections, kind of Sparks up as things, change for them and
- 5:55see how they're doing there. Because, as you said, you know,
- 5:59a lot of these kids are sold on You know, come here, you play
- 6:04for your school. That's one, three or four
- 6:08national titles, this that and the other, but at some point it
- 6:12just it's not the other promises that were made whether it's
- 6:16playing time or where they would be on the depth chart or if they
- 6:21would be traveling or whatever, it may be, man, it just not,
- 6:24it's not happening for them. Yep.
- 6:26Now they've got an option in. They don't have to worry about
- 6:28wasting the year. Sit.
- 6:31Out in order to kind of realize those opportunities.
- 6:38Exactly. And now, the way I think it's
- 6:41going to change, just your basic recruiting very, very
- 6:47informally. Because now to the point, what
- 6:51you just said, now you've got to be really careful because if
- 6:55you're banking on this kid playing three years from now and
- 6:58you're selling them all the, all the stuff you talked about it.
- 7:01He walks in and says, I'm not getting what you promised.
- 7:04There's no more holding them for holding the kid.
- 7:09Just got to sell the work. Now, going to sell the work, you
- 7:12better sell. You can sell winning winning,
- 7:15always sells, but you got to sell the work as part of that,
- 7:18you can't just sell. Oh, well, we'll get you out
- 7:22there and then it just doesn't happen.
- 7:24And that, the kids, the one that's paying for that.
- 7:28Exactly. And it's in a truly fair to In
- 7:31general, anyone can do it one time.
- 7:34Anyone can transfer from school to school.
- 7:36If you've got the grades, you know, Brian, you know we had our
- 7:40buddy. We had a buddy Brown Wilkerson
- 7:42at Longwood for a year. Had the grades move to Tech.
- 7:45Did long, would stop him from transferring the deck?
- 7:48No, no, I want to say something. Give Brian all the credit in the
- 7:55world. He's over here.
- 7:57Holding his tongue, his brain. Exactly.
- 8:32Yeah, I got a little cushion here.
- 8:35Hopefully, we'll have a seven-run inning.
- 8:37Like we had, he came 430, gosh. But I can only imagine your face
- 8:45yesterday probably getting ready to em a little dinner.
- 8:47Watch the game. Well, not watching this game
- 8:49tonight, Ivan. Nothing, gz, what the hell
- 8:53happened there said down, it was, it was a two-run game.
- 8:57I was like, all right. See Ron's two outs, not the best
- 9:00start where we Got a 2-1 Advantage.
- 9:02Let's see how this goes. Walk away.
- 9:05Make a little Little drink for myself, come back.
- 9:09It's like seven. Nothing.
- 9:11I'm like wait, it was two minutes.
- 9:19Holy crap. All right guys, and Arkansas
- 9:23State about to score again to. Let's move to it Know The Enemy
- 9:28Boston College Eagles, led by Jeff haffley heard haffley's
- 9:31interview this afternoon on nine ten, sounds like a pretty
- 9:34thoughtful. Pretty intelligent guy.
- 9:37Going to break down as we always do, both sides of the ball, give
- 9:41you some stats some data bronze and give you a little tape,
- 9:44break down what he see. So let's start on the offensive
- 9:47side of the ball, Brian, this offer, it's clearly led by Phil,
- 9:51jerk of a bitch than quarterback, the Notre Dame
- 9:53transfer. So far this season. 1181 yards,
- 9:59eight touchdowns two interceptions, a passer rating
- 10:02of one forty, five point three. He's completing about 65 percent
- 10:06of his passes. And you know, solid ranks with
- 10:09all those you know, passer rating, ranks 29th, so right on
- 10:13that upper third 19th and completion percentage of clearly
- 10:17in the upper third and then passing yards per game.
- 10:20You know, he's 12th in the nation, he completes about 25
- 10:25passes per game. That's a pretty high number in
- 10:28my opinion, passes per completion and 11 .93, which
- 10:34ranked 45th. Now he's actually A little bit
- 10:38better in the yards per attempt which is 7.7 that gets him up to
- 10:4434 so he's on the top into that which kind of hopefully when you
- 10:48get to reviewing here it kind of tells me they're probably
- 10:49continuously pushing the ball downfield.
- 10:52Now we look at those numbers, I think me and you probably both
- 10:55are on the page, they're solid numbers.
- 10:57Nothing spectacular, nothing awful.
- 11:01But something, I do, I've done it for every single offense,
- 11:05we've looked at I always look at the sack.
- 11:07Totals and they're not good. BC has given up 16.
- 11:14Total sacks in four games, that's an average of four game.
- 11:18There are only two teams that are worse than the country want
- 11:22to Syracuse and we do. What do we do to do for on?
- 11:29We put some pressure on those boys a little bit.
- 11:31Absolutely. So Brian, when you looked at
- 11:33some of the tape, what did you see?
- 11:35Not only from fill but his offensive line and the weapons,
- 11:39he has So, the big thing you're covid-19 has me a little bit of
- 11:45kind of a young Ben Roethlisberger.
- 11:49I knew Fuente said it and when I looked at the tape, he was
- 11:52pretty much spot-on. Kind of a big Buddy, Guy awkward
- 11:58but athletic, it kind of looks like a almost like a drunk type
- 12:03guy back in the, in the backfield, throwing the ball
- 12:05around, so it kind of it looks awkward, but it's effective.
- 12:10He's got a little bit of a wiggle for a big dude, but, you
- 12:13know, he really likes to identify the man coverage and
- 12:16kind of throw it that way and let the receiver make A plate.
- 12:18Does that a lot, especially Tuesday flowers and Hunter long
- 12:22laser, his big two Targets that he likes to hit the passing
- 12:25Game. Hunter long on a lot of those
- 12:28kind of short crossers sometimes, it seemed he really
- 12:32likes to hit. They flowers up the see more on
- 12:34a skinny post. So he's pushing the ball down
- 12:37the field to flowers when he's targeting him in the passing
- 12:41Game Hunter long is going to be the bigger problem, though.
- 12:44Just because He's a handful and coverage and if we don't tackle
- 12:49him, he can make us make us pay pretty bad as well.
- 12:54Not after last week as far as like, he'll take off if there's
- 13:10nothing down or if like Rush gets to him early and he just
- 13:14has to bail on it. More of a guy that's going to
- 13:17move around in the pocket to throw downfield and he's very
- 13:20much like Ben Roethlisberger will.
- 13:22He'll he'll take a sack before he will throw it away.
- 13:27Okay. And that tells me a little bit
- 13:29about kind of those sack numbers that you were.
- 13:32You were alluding to there. He's going to try to stand in
- 13:35the pocket as long as he can to try to get a guy open and make a
- 13:38throw. So that does give us some
- 13:41chances to potentially get a sack fumble, maybe get an
- 13:46interception but they've done a pretty good job of limiting
- 13:48turnovers so far. He hasn't thrown I think we what
- 13:51two or three interceptions so far too.
- 13:54Yeah, to interception so far this year and had one strip
- 13:58fumble on a sack just literally got the ball ripped out of his
- 14:02hands against Pitt. But otherwise it's been pretty
- 14:06good protecting the football. Let's talk about their
- 14:09offensive. Line a little bit, got to, they
- 14:12are okay, especially if that's a, they are above average and
- 14:16past Pro, but they're dealing with a lot of five and seven
- 14:19step drops. They drop back a lot.
- 14:22They've actually read a lot of ice formation.
- 14:24It's a very Pro style offense, so you see a lot of shotgun in a
- 14:27lot of Ace formation. They don't do a whole lot of
- 14:32spreading feel actually. I would go counter them.
- 14:35They actually have a lot of tight, formations some punch
- 14:37looks and things like that. A lot of Personnel with a tight
- 14:41end in an HVAC and they run a lot of play action off those
- 14:45inside Zone. Looks from the ace and also from
- 14:49the inside Zone from a shotgun. So you'll see a lot of play
- 14:52action five-step drop seven-step drops, or they're trying to
- 14:55drive the ball down the field real quick break.
- 14:58And when they do that, yeah, go ahead.
- 15:00Does it shock you? What they're doing when you take
- 15:03a look that Frank cignetti Is their offensive coordinator?
- 15:07Is it any like shock? Is it like he's going away from
- 15:10what he knows or he's trying to implement what he's done
- 15:13throughout his career. He's trying to implement what
- 15:15he's done. He's doing definitely a lot more
- 15:18pro-style things like when he was quarterbacks coach in the
- 15:21NFL so you're seeing a lot of those.
- 15:24Those elements get brought into what he's doing on all
- 15:27offensive. Boston College, they're not
- 15:29doing a whole lot of lateral stretch you out and then find
- 15:34find there. Seems they're doing a lot more.
- 15:36More lineup. Run it down your throat, kind of
- 15:40play action. Reminds me a little bit of kind
- 15:42of that Bruce, Arians offense that we call when bit when Big
- 15:46Ben was had Aryans as a coordinator in Pittsburgh.
- 15:51Oh, all right, yeah. So, let's talk a little bit more
- 15:55about the, the tight end of the running backs, they use the
- 15:59running back some in the passing game, but usually it's going to
- 16:02go to the tight end. They like to go up the seam.
- 16:04I did see them send the running. Back up the seam a couple times
- 16:08as well. So be looking for the running
- 16:11backs to get involved in the passing game but it's not going
- 16:13to be your traditional screen and swing type game.
- 16:16It's going to be kind of Route tree type items that you're
- 16:19going to see them running. And again I mean they flowers is
- 16:23the dude that can make the big plays that can hurt you with one
- 16:26place. So got to got to make sure he
- 16:28does not get behind. You had a big touchdown beating
- 16:32man coverage against Pitt. You got to step on the court.
- 16:36Corner that separation at the catch and just ran away from it.
- 16:40That was the 77 yarder one particular to top.
- 16:43Yeah, I remember vaguely seeing that.
- 16:46And then looking through his stats this week, I saw that with
- 16:48his long play, he had been he was lined up that me they like I
- 16:52said, they play real tight, so he was, he was the Z and just
- 16:57ran a skinny post and completely beat his man, one-on-one and
- 17:01Jacoby put the ball right on him.
- 17:04So it sounds like you're Kovac. Good, good, deep ball.
- 17:07Like we're not looking at a lack of arm here.
- 17:09I'm guessing the way you can definitely he can make all the
- 17:11throws. I'm he's not you know, my homes
- 17:15or Josh Allen or anything out there but he can make all the
- 17:18throws. You want from a quarterback?
- 17:20Got it man. Kind of looking at who Brian
- 17:23discussed here. You know, I did dive into, you
- 17:27know, what their team looks like.
- 17:29And you mentioned how too long and it is I popping how this
- 17:34What he's doing this year Hunter long through four games has 31
- 17:38receptions for 362 yards. Averaging 11 points, 7 of carry,
- 17:45only two touchdowns. But right now he is top 10 in
- 17:49the nation. In receptions.
- 17:51Amongst all players, not just tight ends.
- 17:55Do you mind leading the nation in tight ends?
- 17:57I should go back and look that up but when you just see a tight
- 17:59end in the top ten, you assume he's probably the best in the
- 18:02country. He's Averaging about 90 again.
- 18:05So as you've already mentioned run integral part of this
- 18:07offense and you kind of look around at some of the draft
- 18:11sites. He is being touted as a top-five
- 18:15tight end in next year's draft. And man, you look at his size.
- 18:19It is absolutely not a shock. Six foot, five 253 pounds.
- 18:26He's a prototype. Yeah, I don't think there's any
- 18:29question about that. Now, you mentioned your other
- 18:32guy has a flowers Oh, yeah, he is their big play.
- 18:36There is not even a doubt about it. 5:11 178 only 21 receptions,
- 18:41but for 405 yards. So he is averaging, you know,
- 18:46close to 20 yards, a reception with four touchdowns belong on
- 18:51their pit. That really, you know, kept that
- 18:55game, you know, there. He's averaging over 100 a game.
- 19:00He is seventh in the country interception in receiving yards
- 19:04which is super impressive and the per game, you know, he is 15
- 19:13obviously because there's something that's already played
- 19:15five and I mean, that's a hell of a one-two punch, right?
- 19:19You know, I don't think anybody would doubt that to see two guys
- 19:23like that those numbers, what? They're doing there sighs, what
- 19:26you've mentioned. And where they're running their
- 19:28routes, hell of a one-two punch. But as much as those guys who,
- 19:33you know, have combined for 52 receptions, they're still
- 19:37getting other guys involved. I mean, you talked about the
- 19:40running back. The big one is Travis Levi.
- 19:43He's third on the team with 11 receptions for 74 yards.
- 19:47So, you know, you hear that, that's averaging right about
- 19:52seven, a carry. Usually, when you see a tight
- 19:55end or shoot me a running back with a lot of Passes.
- 19:58A lot of check down, usually that average is similar to the
- 20:01UNC running back last week Michael Carter.
- 20:04It's usually between about 4 and 6.
- 20:07When you say, he's running the route tree and full make sense
- 20:10that he's almost up 7 to 8 per carry, whether wide receivers,
- 20:15Jalen Gil, 10 receptions, for 78 yards.
- 20:18Again, they are definitely spreading all around outside
- 20:20their big to, and then kind of the last one, me, and you talked
- 20:23about when we were getting prepared with CJ Louis.
- 20:27Hadid, kind of their go up and get it guy, 63 to 17, you know,
- 20:33seven or seven. He's the guy that the Jacobins
- 20:36going to look for if there's kind of nothing there at East,
- 20:39he sees him, one-on-one, they'll throw it up and just let him go
- 20:42get it a little bit. That's where Roethlisberger,
- 20:45somebody's around his waist, you know what, fling it, he's big
- 20:50enough. Let him try to go catch it, you
- 20:52know. So, you know, we sit here and
- 20:55Brian, you know, You have weapons.
- 20:58So as you started looking deeper at the tape and obviously get to
- 21:02see what things work, what things didn't work, what kind of
- 21:07scheme do you think we should be looking at the slow down this
- 21:10past an attack? We definitely need to go with a
- 21:13lot of Cover 3 and keep everything in front of us.
- 21:16We don't want they flowers to go out there and beat us on three
- 21:21plates. So that that's the first thing
- 21:24I'm taking away but the second thing I'm trying to take away is
- 21:27getting Get as few targets away from Hunter long as I can.
- 21:33So what I would try to do with that is maybe even have you
- 21:38know, responsibility where you know if it's a pass play, have a
- 21:44guy that's running man with him and kind of maybe Zone it across
- 21:47the board everywhere else we saw that UNC did that against BC and
- 21:53some downs, and it ended up working a little bit for them.
- 21:56So that might be something that we can look.
- 21:57Doing ourselves as kind of having like a guy like like
- 22:01Connor match up on him basically, one-on-one, or if
- 22:06they're sending them across the formation, maybe switch that
- 22:09around depending, on whether you put like, Tisdale on of these,
- 22:13on one side of the formation or Connor if he's on the other,
- 22:17okay? However, you end up making it
- 22:19work, I would definitely keep a guy either.
- 22:21If you're not man enough on him, keeping the guy that's playing
- 22:23kind of a shell right around him.
- 22:27So he's He's not going to beat you, you know, nickel-and-diming
- 22:29it down the field. I got you.
- 22:31Um, let me ask this. You mentioned last week with UNC
- 22:37one of the big plays we got beat by was that quarter coverage.
- 22:41Do you see us bringing that back in just trying to whoever's
- 22:45playing that you know, half the field?
- 22:47Listen you've got to be disciplined.
- 22:49Do you see? I would I would say we would try
- 22:51to keep. I wouldn't like half feel
- 22:57responsibility against the flowers.
- 22:59Okay. If we if we were going to do any
- 23:02sort of quarter quarter half, we would need to do, we would need
- 23:06to make sure that flowers was on the two quarter side.
- 23:11So there's two guys in those zones versus just the one
- 23:15covering half the feel, so if you guys see that quarter
- 23:19coverage, no brine is probably throwing things at his
- 23:22television Saturday night. Why are we doing this?
- 23:27There was one other question I had on this.
- 23:34Blitzing. Do you think we can get there
- 23:36with four or do you think we're going to have to send some
- 23:38blitzes? I think we can get there before
- 23:42but I'll I would like to send this is occasionally because he
- 23:45did occasionally struggle with the Blitz.
- 23:48And again he has someone that's going to hold on the ball
- 23:51regardless of what we're bringing at him so we might get
- 23:54some some coverage sacks or some you know move we get immediate
- 23:58penetration might get him off his game a little bit.
- 24:01So I still want to see some blitzing just to keep that
- 24:04honest there but I think we can still get pressure before we
- 24:08need to God. All right.
- 24:10Right. Well Brian, let's wrap up a
- 24:13section and let's get over to the Run game and Brian.
- 24:17Well in my opinion it's BC in the terrible horrible.
- 24:24No good. Very bad rushing offense.
- 24:27Yep. I mean they are literally the
- 24:30third wash rushing offense in the country.
- 24:33They are averaging 60.3 yards a game.
- 24:36They are the worst team in the country.
- 24:39Only one. 87 per carry their leading.
- 24:42Rusher is David Bailey with 155 yard.
- 24:46He doesn't even double the 1.8. He's at 3.1 per carry.
- 24:53You want another? The deleting rushing touchdown
- 24:56person is that's going to be their quarterback on a couple of
- 24:59snakes I would. Yeah, he's linking them with
- 25:02three. Um, I would normally say, like,
- 25:05you know, they're, they're bad because they're, you know,
- 25:09clearly, we've shown it They're passing all the time.
- 25:12Well when you come to my kind of dug out and started breaking
- 25:15down. No, no it's not that way.
- 25:17They're really only passing 55% of the time compared to 45
- 25:22percent of the time running. So basically they're keeping it
- 25:25somewhat balanced and playing just absolutely terrible.
- 25:29So proud when you went back and looked at the tape it hopefully
- 25:32you found some tape of the running game.
- 25:35Yeah, of a terrible horrible, no good, very bad at Rushing the
- 25:38ball. Because they have Lyman that are
- 25:44very good at run blocking. What I'm seeing is that I'm not
- 25:48sure if it's just, they're not a great fit for this type of
- 25:51scheme yet or what it might be. But they are not having a good
- 25:54job with kind of the pro-style inside Zone.
- 26:01That this team is running now. Now, when you look at the Run
- 26:05game, it's a lot different than what we saw last week, we saw a
- 26:08lot of ladder. Roll runs or misdirection to set
- 26:12up the inside Zone and the outside Zone there's very very
- 26:17little of that mostly what we're looking at is downhill between
- 26:21the tackles inside Zone with occasionally mixing things up,
- 26:27doing is doing a few different things here and there, but we're
- 26:30mostly getting the few plays and the running downhill in between
- 26:34the tackles. So this should be a little bit
- 26:36easier of a matchup for our linebackers this week, where
- 26:41they're pretty much reading. Downhill run or play action and
- 26:46having to get back into their zone.
- 26:48So hopefully that they will handle things.
- 26:50A little bit better this week we will weasel, we will see.
- 26:54But as I said earlier they run a lot of a lot of ice formation.
- 26:57So they're running that that zone with it with a speck in the
- 27:00quarterback under Center which we again, we don't see very much
- 27:05of anymore. I mean, most of the offenses, we
- 27:07see even ones that don't incorporate Zone read or heavy
- 27:11misdirection or still I'm taking those snaps from the shotgun.
- 27:15So, probably there about Kind of, that's 5545 pretty much like
- 27:22their, their balance, their on the running past, whether
- 27:24they're in a nice or whether they're in shotgun.
- 27:29So you're going to see a lot of things that they run out of
- 27:32that. They like I said, they mostly
- 27:33like inside Zone. Sometimes they just Zone it
- 27:36across the board. Sometimes they will take their
- 27:38HVAC and right after the snap, they'll run him across the
- 27:43formation to seal on the back side.
- 27:46And that's really the only two variations of that play that
- 27:48they On and they weren't very effective with that.
- 27:52They had a couple where they got in the cutback lane right behind
- 27:56where the HVAC was ceiling. And we want to get like a eight
- 28:00or ten yard game but they're not getting large chunk plays.
- 28:04Like we saw a UNC, get both in other games that we watch some
- 28:08tape and especially when they were playing Us and got a bunch
- 28:10of junk, please there. It's a couple yards and a cloud
- 28:15of dust couple yard loss. If we get some penetration at
- 28:18the Middle. I mean it's very pedestrian and
- 28:24occasionally when they run out of that.
- 28:26That shotgun they'll do some inside Zone.
- 28:28There occasionally they'll get some jet motion and kind of run
- 28:31of inverted v r and let Djokovic try to get a few yards but
- 28:35that's kind of few and far between the I think they're
- 28:37almost running it just to keep the defense honest and let them
- 28:41know that they do have a quarterback that can do it but I
- 28:44don't I don't think that they're doing it with any sort of
- 28:47effectiveness. Let me ask Brian, and I mean,
- 28:51you talked about it earlier but just so people can understand.
- 28:54Because I think people look at BC during the Adagio years, you
- 28:58know, they had some really good running backs.
- 29:00Really good rain attacks but the way you kind of explain it, to
- 29:02me is significant going to a pro style of run blocking versus in
- 29:08as you were explaining. I kind of asked, so Brian is
- 29:11what's not seen a but what Adagio is?
- 29:13He just essentially, is it a college power game versus your
- 29:17traditional Pro? And you kind of Hit the kind of
- 29:20hit on the basics of that just real quick explain.
- 29:23What's the difference in? Why they aren't as successful
- 29:25even though it's essentially you know some of the same guys as
- 29:29last year. So you saw a lot more like pulls
- 29:35traps pain and pulls with with Adagio system, kind of letting
- 29:41the lineman do a little bit more in space and kind of confusing
- 29:47the front a little bit with some Read steps that look a little
- 29:51different than what they're actually giving you and with
- 29:56this being very Pro style, they're not actually giving you
- 30:00a lot. I mean what the linebackers are
- 30:02reading is what's coming at them.
- 30:04It's essentially is the line doing everything they need to do
- 30:08to get the whole open for the back to make a play and they're
- 30:11just not doing that with any frequency right now.
- 30:14Yeah, just a few other points of data before we turn it over to
- 30:17the defense. Overall third down conversion
- 30:20percentage at forty four point eight, which isn't a bad number.
- 30:23So, okay, there they also only had three turnovers in four
- 30:28games, which tells me, they play very clean, it's been the two
- 30:32picks and then the strip sack fungal that you mentioned, but
- 30:36this is an interesting stat Braun.
- 30:39They've had 17 Red Zone, possessions.
- 30:45They have converted 15 of those which is, you know, 29th in the
- 30:50country. Well that's really good.
- 30:53What if I told you Brian of those 15 only eight or
- 30:55touchdowns not great? No not great everything.
- 31:01You just mentioned enough, throwing those numbers out
- 31:03there. I think, when they get inside
- 31:06that Red Zone, that an ability to run the ball, it shows,
- 31:11because if you're able to run the ball a lot better than what
- 31:14they are. Our, I think they should have,
- 31:16you know, basically, 4:50 3:49, but when you can't run the ball,
- 31:23what you talked about, what we talked about earlier, easier for
- 31:26the backend to play, you don't have 60 yards behind you.
- 31:30You're not worried about see flowers being you for a 60 yard
- 31:32gain. You got 15, 20 yards to cover.
- 31:37And that not only takes a ways as big play, but it also has
- 31:41smaller windows for Hunter longer work as well.
- 31:45Absolutely. All right.
- 31:47Well let's flip over to the defense now.
- 31:49Brian, we give you some real quick stats right here.
- 31:51Before you take a look, Total Defense ranks 29th giving up 370
- 31:57yards a game about five yards per play.
- 31:59So you know, right on the borderline of average for the
- 32:03teams that have played so far Rush defense slightly better
- 32:08than the pass defense Rush defense given up 135 a game at
- 32:113.67. A carry the passing defense.
- 32:14Giving 235 yards a game at 11 per completion.
- 32:20Now they do have a pretty good set, total number there in the
- 32:24top 20. They've sacked the quarterback
- 32:2612 times. So that's an average of three
- 32:28game. So Brian is you started looking
- 32:33at their scheme at the Personnel, anything jump out or
- 32:38the numbers that say, okay, they're not great there.
- 32:42Okay. I say this, I think in terms of
- 32:48front end and back in there, probably the best defense.
- 32:51We've seen that the to this point.
- 32:54Okay? And that's more because of The
- 32:58way they do, a good job of turning action from The Edge
- 33:03back inside, they run a similar defense to what we ran under
- 33:09Bud. Foster less less, blitzing less
- 33:13man, but still kind of similar Concepts.
- 33:16It's more of the four to five that we saw in the kind of
- 33:20mid-2000s than what we've seen in the last decade where that
- 33:25that whip position is kind of more of a More voluptuous
- 33:30additional linebacker. Just a little more athletic type
- 33:33guy. It's almost like a double strong
- 33:37safety that you got in there so so they're solid against the
- 33:41Run. They do a good job.
- 33:42Like I said, turning some of the lateral stuff back inside and
- 33:45letting those those backers kind of clean things up and by doing
- 33:49that they do a good job of setting the edge.
- 33:52They struggle when you run right out of them, if you're able to
- 33:54run Adam between the tackles, they're susceptible to busting
- 33:58off some big plays. As we saw a couple pit, have a
- 34:01couple big plays late in the game with some of that inside
- 34:04and outside Zone Action. So they are susceptible to that,
- 34:08but they don't bite on the like, misdirection with the running
- 34:11backs in motion, a lot. Stay-at-home pretty well.
- 34:14So, they do a pretty decent job of limiting big plays.
- 34:17Usually, when they get beat on big plays, you know, it's
- 34:21because they were block. Well, not not a sin because they
- 34:23were out of position, or they made a mistake.
- 34:25So, but they do have a tendency to Over play The Zone, run.
- 34:33So that's going to give a chance to let our quarterback, you
- 34:38know. Maybe maybe have a little keeper
- 34:39getting space and make a big play on the edge there.
- 34:43All right, let me ask you a question because something you
- 34:45said is they don't bite on. A lot of misdirection, with the
- 34:49running backs in motion and stuff like that.
- 34:51Now is that because they're staying disciplined?
- 34:53Or is it more of? Don't worry about all the Frills
- 34:58what's in front of you. Pay attention to what's in front
- 35:00of you where I'm thinking if they're not biting and someone
- 35:02like Raheem Blackshear or trade, Turner gets one on those jet
- 35:06sweeps and they're staying at home.
- 35:08I am assuming there's going to be a very big, a lie, if they're
- 35:11staying at home, so they do a good job with their kind of guys
- 35:17that are playing outside there. Whether it's the strong safety
- 35:20up in the box, where it's the whip, on the other side, they do
- 35:24a good job, them kind of getting penetration on the edge and
- 35:27spilling everything back. Side said, they kind of, don't
- 35:31pay attention to the motion too much because they're so good at
- 35:36using those guys to turn everything back in that they'll
- 35:40live with it. If they end up getting one or
- 35:43two, where they get out flanked, got it, got it, got it, got it.
- 35:46Well, that the pass game. Brian, how are they defending
- 35:49that? I think like to bring a lot of
- 35:52pressure man, especially on obvious passing down the third
- 35:56long, second and long. They run a lot of cover three,
- 36:01they keep away, keep pretty much everything, all the business in
- 36:04front of them, you know, they'll occasionally, let one deep one
- 36:07kind of creep in there, but they do a really good job of keeping
- 36:10most of the stuff in front of it.
- 36:11When we saw it, when we watch the UNC tape, I know I was
- 36:14mostly watching that to kind of scout UNC.
- 36:17But when I, when I was looking at his, like, well, they're
- 36:20doing a good job of kind of keeping all the all the big
- 36:23plays in front of them and that that showed up on the film here
- 36:26for pit as well. When I was looking at it, they
- 36:29Everything in front of them, they don't let one play kind of
- 36:31ruin their game, but because of that, when they kind of get in
- 36:37the Red Zone, they're not they're not great.
- 36:39Okay? That doesn't give up a ton of
- 36:41points when when a team is able to get a drive going on them.
- 36:47There they tend to get me in zone so I don't know if it's
- 36:50just you know, that they don't have that mentality of kind of
- 36:54flipping the switch. Once they're in the red zone to
- 36:56have to bow up or what it is. But mostly what they're trying
- 36:59to do is keep everything in front of them and let the
- 37:02offense make some mistakes that end up either giving them off
- 37:04the field or giving them the ball back.
- 37:07Well, it's funny. You mention that Ryan because I
- 37:08look here and one of the data points.
- 37:11I got to pull out is Red Zone, attempts, 12.
- 37:15They've given up 75% of scores. So they've given up nine scores,
- 37:20given up eight touchdowns. So what you just perfectly
- 37:24described is is it, is it, you know the bend don't break to the
- 37:28you don't have the mental will, or is it just simply they're
- 37:31playing just such discipline defense?
- 37:33It's well, you know, this is, this is what we're supposed to
- 37:37do, we don't? I'm not supposed to bite on
- 37:39that. I'm supposed to trust my guy.
- 37:41When there's less space behind you, there's a chance of, he
- 37:45just makes one mistake. It's seven yards in a touchdown
- 37:48or 15 yards and it's a touchdown.
- 37:50Not there's no more room to clean up its end zone or bust
- 37:53where? Yeah they're not able to say
- 37:58okay well we're keeping in front of will in front of it.
- 38:00Still a touchdown at that point. A lot of teams are running the
- 38:13football a little bit more between the tackles once they
- 38:14get in the red area. So, it's kind of a kind of a way
- 38:18that almost all set some of the things that they do really well,
- 38:21the rest of the field, almost ends up coming back to bite him
- 38:23a little bit that portion of the field so and they're not, yeah,
- 38:27I looked at it to, they're not really that great with some of
- 38:29the the swing passes that get out to the wide receivers really
- 38:32fast, their defensive backs. We're getting blocked by the
- 38:37wide receivers a lot. So if we can get the ball
- 38:40outside of those spill guys, you know, we can do a little damage
- 38:44in that game as well. So the guy who feasted against
- 38:48this defense last year, they came down from Rutgers could
- 38:51potentially Feast again. Bingo, yeah, Rahim.
- 38:56I saw it about 184 1:30 last year, which is kind of nuts and
- 39:00then you just say that and it's just like, oh I hope you guys
- 39:04don't forget about him at all. Yeah.
- 39:07I mean they're focusing on Blackshear that also killed them
- 39:10when Kansas played them last year.
- 39:11And then, oh, look. Rahim boxer also killed this
- 39:14defense last year. As did you smoke a little bit of
- 39:19a different system that they're running this year, but it's
- 39:22pretty much the same players are going to have some Shell
- 39:26Shocked. Aren't they cool.
- 39:28Those guys were in the Big 12 and the way as big wait a second
- 39:33son of a bitch, Damn it. I just a couple other things to
- 39:39wrap up on the defense Prime. You know, I looked at their
- 39:44turnover line and it you would you think it would be great?
- 39:47They forced eight turnovers in four games but then as me and
- 39:52you as memory serves and as note serves, they had five from duke.
- 39:57So only had three in there. Other three games.
- 40:00So effectively they're averaging one, turnover a game.
- 40:04They've only turned the ball over three times.
- 40:06So in me, it's kind of like you take the Duke game out of the
- 40:09equation. They're almost a 50/50 split.
- 40:12I don't look at the turnover margin on that when you have
- 40:14such one big swing game. Now, liar, especially with Duke
- 40:18has done against the other teams they played.
- 40:21We're the only thing that they didn't go out there and just so
- 40:26you know, definitely that five is an outlier, a game.
- 40:33So Not terrible, not great.
- 40:52But when you caught mentioning about the keeping everything in
- 40:56front of them, and I look at the stat, I drew, I pulled up a big
- 41:00giving up 88 first down in four games, it makes sense.
- 41:03It's kind of like that g. That Duke was giving up roughly
- 41:0623, first down the game there, they don't want to give up the
- 41:10big play. It does you have to drive the
- 41:11field and you know, that all that's good?
- 41:14And well I think with what we have I think we can do that.
- 41:19And as I say that Brian, let's quick turn.
- 41:21Let's get to the pivotal players.
- 41:24Let us start on offense run. As soon as I said, Brian number
- 41:28one on offense, you screamed Captain Hook.
- 41:32And in health care. You know, when I looked at this,
- 41:38what they do on defense, we're going to have to be effective in
- 41:42the short passing game because I don't think we're going to be
- 41:44able to take as many shots as we have taken so far this year,
- 41:50it's going to be definitely more 25 yards and under not
- 41:54throughout the 20, big 20 + yd gainers that we've seen in some
- 41:57of these games and hookers going to have to be accurate and liver
- 42:02balls on time and make the right reads.
- 42:05So that's going to be really important.
- 42:07He's his legs are going to be important on some of those own
- 42:10reads and the inverted v r and stuff like that.
- 42:13So you know look for him to have some success with that as well
- 42:17because they again they have been sometimes successful on
- 42:20biting down really hard on the backside when they see inside
- 42:25outside zone. So you hook her might have some
- 42:28opportunities to get on the edge and make some plays there.
- 42:32That's my big, that's my first big one.
- 42:34Who do you who do you? Like I think today when we were
- 42:41putting this was Brock and I think the way you just mention
- 42:44what they like to do on defense and occasionally bringing
- 42:46pressure and then the way that some of those Zone runs they
- 42:50lead gaps, the man in the middle Brock Hoffman, obviously we've
- 42:55already seen it through, you know, three games broadcast,
- 42:59good command of making the right.
- 43:01Right calls making the right reads.
- 43:03We haven't had too many plays blow up yet because he put he's
- 43:06putting that whole line, who all the guys are talented in the
- 43:10right positions, but since you taught mentioning about those
- 43:14zones and some of the back lanes, and we know, he likes to
- 43:18be nasty. And I do believe that the way me
- 43:23and you discussed it, if they're having trouble getting there,
- 43:28it's probably going to be brought from this in the right
- 43:30spot to We block leading Brock leading the way in creating the
- 43:34alleys and my right? Or am I wrong?
- 43:38Yeah, those kind of there's inside combo blocks on the zones
- 43:41are going to be the key, you know, with Brock making a lot of
- 43:44those priests at Kohl's and brought working with the guard
- 43:48on those hand off. So that's going to be the key
- 43:50for me, whether we can get Herbert to the second level, let
- 43:54him do what he does best, which is make a big guys, missing
- 43:57space and take it to the house. So rocks deathly going to be
- 44:00big. Up there, you know, when we
- 44:03talked about the short passing game, I mean, we talked about
- 44:07the swing, we talked about getting the ball outside and let
- 44:10him live. The wide receivers block, block
- 44:12a little bit, but it's going to begin and end with Big Stone
- 44:15Gap. James Mitchell this week, man.
- 44:18If he can have another big game like he had against UNC working
- 44:21underneath, working up the seam working, some of those Slants,
- 44:27you know, I'm gonna feel really good about this game because
- 44:29that's where we can kind of get them.
- 44:32Get some yards on them where they're a little soft there in
- 44:34the middle in coverage. So look for that to happen.
- 44:38Hopefully we can get him going. What do you think, buddy?
- 44:41No no I'm with you on that. I think Big Stone Gap is going
- 44:44to be one of the keys not only because of the way you talk
- 44:46about the way they'd like to bring pressure and obviously
- 44:50that's going to leave the middle of the field.
- 44:51Open for some quick seam route. Some hopefully little crossers,
- 44:56some little, you know, some quick digs to the middle but the
- 45:00other piece Peace is Ron. As you were mentioning that on
- 45:04defense is. Do they have anybody that can
- 45:07cover him? Is there anybody that popped out
- 45:10of your mind? That said, hey and this guy
- 45:14could keep Big Stone Gap to a reasonable game.
- 45:19I'm they had a couple of linebackers that I think can
- 45:21maybe cover him in the short short passing game, but I just
- 45:24think it's athleticism as the game wears on is going to take
- 45:26over. I don't think any guys can run
- 45:29with them and then just, you know, the big body that he has.
- 45:33I think eventually it's going to get to wear them down over the
- 45:35course of a game. So yeah, I wouldn't say that
- 45:39they're necessarily susceptible but I think that if he has kind
- 45:43of a good one of one of his better games that they could
- 45:45definitely take advantage of what they do on defense, Got it.
- 45:50All right, let's turn it over to the defense.
- 45:52Now, pivotal players and holding down the top spot for the second
- 45:55week in a row. The Heavenly Devil Himself
- 45:58Divine Diablo. He did not get to suit up last
- 46:02week. So he's back here again and he's
- 46:04back here again because of what we saw last week and because of
- 46:10how much they like to throw the ball down the field.
- 46:13So that's kind of the one-two punch man.
- 46:17Diablo cleaned up so much especially.
- 46:18Especially in that game against NC State did.
- 46:23Such a good job of cleaning up some of those those run plays.
- 46:28Yeah, he's definitely going to be, it'd be nice to have him
- 46:30back and then the coverage aspect, I mean, with some of the
- 46:34way they drive the ball down, the field with the football in
- 46:37the passing game. Yeah, having a guy.
- 46:39That's that experience that talented.
- 46:42That's what you want. Because he is the guy.
- 46:44He's the quarterback of that secondary and that's who you
- 46:47want in the game. I guess the team that's going to
- 46:49throw it down the field like this absolutely man.
- 46:53There's, there's no doubt about it.
- 46:54We saw how much he was missing last week.
- 46:57We saw among some stats that I cannot remember who put up.
- 47:03If you put them up, please tag yourself and put it on the
- 47:07boundary Corner. We were at least this on Friday,
- 47:10but we were 12%. Missed tackles game won.
- 47:14The last two games where he was absent. 22% 24.
- 47:18Percent and I think that's big. I think it's big for the
- 47:22linebackers knowing that he's back there.
- 47:24I think putting people in the right situations.
- 47:27So without a doubt, Divine Diablo holding down number one,
- 47:31right? Who's got number two?
- 47:34So Beach Amari Connor and that's going to be because we're going
- 47:37to need him his physicality at the line of scrimmage.
- 47:40But we're also going to need him.
- 47:43Covering Hunter long and he's gonna need to show better skills
- 47:50at that what he showed against as do something, I think he will
- 47:53just because number one, Hunter long for all the gifts and
- 47:57talents he has is not quick and Elusive, like dad's new, some do
- 48:02not and number two because he is a tight end.
- 48:05Connor will be able to actually use his physicality a lot more
- 48:10than he was against Newsome. Who wear, if he does get away
- 48:12from He can run away from Connor, that's not gonna be the
- 48:17case on her long hundred. Long is definitely a guy that
- 48:19can can make plays down the field but he's not a 44 guy
- 48:23that's going to just run away from Connor.
- 48:24Like like Destiny's. Yeah.
- 48:28Connor or whoever, whoever is going to rotate to that, you
- 48:31know, covering long. But I think it's going to be
- 48:33tomorrow. And most of the day and as Das
- 48:37wasn't a good matchup, this is a good matchup.
- 48:39Again, we've mentioned numerous times before.
- 48:41If chimoree, makes it in the The league, he is going to be a
- 48:44strong safety and many times a strong safety, the prototypical.
- 48:50What you're supposed to cover is, you're going to cover the
- 48:52tight end, or if there is a bigger running back, that's your
- 48:55responsibility. So, to me, it's a good matchup.
- 48:59We need him to play Within himself though, because last
- 49:03week now with the ejection, what I'm hoping it is, he he's one of
- 49:08those players that puts that immediately out of his mind
- 49:11don't like, don't play timid, but then, So this is a guy
- 49:14that's not going to run away from you he's bigger than you.
- 49:17Yeah but you've got the skill set to contain him most of the
- 49:22day all right Brian and I'd like to see him you know be a little
- 49:27aggressive with the way he approaches the coverage because
- 49:32you know unlike that as he can make up some ground If he if he
- 49:36guesses wrong. Yeah.
- 49:38So play aggressive not too aggressive but you do Don't go
- 49:43out there. Try not to fail because we don't
- 49:47want that either. No, not at all.
- 49:49Not at all. All right, Brian.
- 49:50So this is going to be an easy one.
- 49:53Brian for the team that literally is the third worst
- 49:56team at giving up quarterback sacks.
- 49:58Who's your number three, defensive ends, buddy, obviously
- 50:03particularly justice re but I can see Belmar and a couple
- 50:06other guys getting in there as well.
- 50:09Jacoby is going to hold on to the football.
- 50:11He's going to stay Behind the line of scrimmage and try to
- 50:15keep looking downfield to throw the ball.
- 50:17We are going to have opportunities to put him on the
- 50:19ground. We potentially have
- 50:21opportunities to get the ball out of his hands.
- 50:24Yep. We got to take advantage of
- 50:26that. Yeah.
- 50:27And you just mentioned it, him holding onto the ball, getting
- 50:31him down when we get there for Belmar for bar, no, for greed.
- 50:39It's going to be you get there. Get him down.
- 50:42Was once he said, no and don't lose your Leverage.
- 51:28Is probably not going to be where they're blocking where
- 51:32their help tight end is. So I think that gives us a
- 51:35schematic advantage to know where you're going to put in
- 51:39because as soon as you know, if lungs on the right and then they
- 51:42shifted got to the right side of the line because Reed is over
- 51:45there. Well, that's fine because you're
- 51:49telling us everything where you're worried about.
- 51:52Yeah. They I mean they run to the
- 51:55strength When they're usually have an HVAC, when they put both
- 51:59on the line of scrimmage, that's when they kind of, it's hard to
- 52:03determine which direction they're running, but they
- 52:04usually run to the strength when they have the 12 personnel with
- 52:10HVAC. Like I said, they usually bring
- 52:13that each bag. Back across the formation to
- 52:15seal the backside. When they're two men on the two
- 52:19tight ends on the line of scrimmage, they usually just a
- 52:21running Straight Zone across the board.
- 52:24All right? All right, Brian.
- 52:27We'll time for the Moment of Truth today.
- 52:31Predictions for Saturday night, in Lane Stadium.
- 52:38Do I get to leave this week? You lead?
- 52:41All right. Let's see what we got here.
- 52:45Give me a hippie 3821. 38 points.
- 52:55I think we score the football against these guys.
- 52:57I don't think they can stop our running game and I think hookers
- 53:01going to make as many or more plays as any other quarterback
- 53:04is made against them. And they haven't seen a running
- 53:06game like this. So I think use for, I think your
- 53:09score more than Pit. I think he's for more than UNC.
- 53:11I think we put a 38 points, nice man.
- 53:16I'm not, I'm not that far from me either.
- 53:18Um I'm Virginia Tech 41b. C21 a lot of the same Reasons.
- 53:24Looking at their Dreadful Red Zone numbers.
- 53:28I think we will get down there and score more times than not
- 53:32into the end zone and I'm only putting on the 21 because I
- 53:36think to your point too about the running game, I think we're
- 53:39going to come out mad on both sides of the ball and I think
- 53:44the way I feel is we're going to probably hit them similar to the
- 53:47way we hit NC State and they probably could get to 27.
- 53:52Maybe even 30, but I think they're going to be at a point
- 53:54in the second half where they're going to have to go for it
- 53:57numerous times. Instead of taking three points
- 54:00are going to be down so much. It's like we've got to go we
- 54:03can't hear and you know, and try to chip away because when they
- 54:07get the ball they're probably going to go score again and if
- 54:12you know we don't try to catch up, it's not going to be a good
- 54:15thing. All right, so we got the
- 54:18prediction, buddy. What was the uniform revealed
- 54:22this week? Uniform reveal very traditional,
- 54:27well, seemingly traditional, right uniform this week.
- 54:31We are going with the white maroon, white Unis, I love the
- 54:36look. The helmet looks very crisp.
- 54:38It looks like fall. You know, it's not orange.
- 54:43So we can't those who Claiming that the orange pants and orange
- 54:50Uniforms. On reason we lost last week.
- 54:52Well, we can't go that this week, so, yeah.
- 54:55Now Brian one of your favorite guys.
- 54:58Got 25 this week. Yes, he did a Mari bar.
- 55:02No 25. And I will say this, he earned
- 55:05it. He had a pretty darn good game
- 55:07against you and see all things considered, especially the way
- 55:11he played in the second half. Got a sack of the second half.
- 55:15Did a good job. Looks like he's coming around a
- 55:17little bit. In terms of not just being a guy
- 55:20that needs to have that, that one read where he's going after
- 55:24the quarterback, he's starting to play a little more balance
- 55:27which is nice to see that. He's got some reps so good for
- 55:30him. Look forward to see 25 making a
- 55:33few secs this Saturday 25 on the line of scrimmage.
- 55:37Always a beautiful beautiful thing.
- 55:39All right, well Brian let's turn it over racc and college
- 55:44football picks this week last week, man.
- 55:48Both of us had good weeks. You hit five and three.
- 55:53I went six and to get back in the winning way.
- 55:58So again folks if you're playing what we're telling you you might
- 56:03be making yourself some money and now we're getting to the
- 56:06point Ryan because we've been playing so good me and you might
- 56:09be opening up an account again. We would like a little bankroll
- 56:22start out on. That's right.
- 56:28That's right. Hey.
- 56:48last week took Plum son to cover and he covered this week, I'm
- 56:54going to take them to cover again because even without My
- 57:11mind, says, somewhere in the neighborhood of what are you
- 57:19feeling on this one? Brian, I'm right there with you.
- 57:22Actually I think this is going to cleanse is going to get the
- 57:2550s and I don't see. Georgia Tech getting out getting
- 57:29to the 20s. So Give me George's.
- 57:32Let me give me Clemson in the points there.
- 57:34Yeah, after Miami burned, you last week with the Clemson game,
- 57:37you come back to the to the, to the Death Star.
- 57:41Here. Let's go down to Hard.
- 57:44Rock stadium in Miami pit. Miami Miami.
- 57:49Lan 14 points against Pitt coming off.
- 57:52The beat down in Death Valley. Will you get out on this one?
- 57:57Brian. Man, this one's tough, buddy.
- 58:03This was tough, because after what I saw happen, between Miami
- 58:07and Clemson. I don't know what to think of
- 58:09Miami anymore, are they just a more efficient version of the
- 58:12same team we saw last year? Or are they?
- 58:15What some folks were thinking? They were going into Clemson.
- 58:20I'm leaning probably a little closer to the former I think
- 58:28King is good but until King can make significant completions two
- 58:32wide receivers down the field. I think they're going to
- 58:34struggle against teams that are good up front and pit is nothing
- 58:38if not good up front. So I'll take Give me pitting,
- 58:45the 14 points. I'm right with you as much as we
- 58:50bagged on Kenny ticket and stuff.
- 58:54The last few weeks they still did not break 30 and regulation
- 58:59they, they said, you can probably be fixed.
- 59:07It's true. And I think Miami will get to
- 59:1030, um, but I can seep it hanging in there, making it.
- 59:14Game. I'm with you.
- 59:16I think 14. Too much delay.
- 59:19Miami coming out. Probably got a little Scar
- 59:21Tissue out of last week. They can be an effective team
- 59:25but you kind of saw the what Clemson did against that offense
- 59:31up from that offensive line of still bad pitch.
- 59:34Still good up front so give us 14 and we'll roll with it.
- 59:39All right we're going to go add a conference for the next one.
- 59:42Brian. And And yeah, well, not out of
- 59:46conference. Syracuse is still are in
- 59:49conference friend, here, Liberty.
- 59:52All right. You ready for the Shocker?
- 59:55What you got, man? Liberty is laying three points.
- 1:00:01Liberty is a favorite Liberty is a road favorite.
- 1:00:05Now, everybody looks Liberties for no, right?
- 1:00:10And good and red one, right fine.
- 1:00:15Give me the teams. They become two games.
- 1:00:17They've won. What's the total length?
- 1:00:21Uno Uno there. One in nine.
- 1:00:25They are literally playing the worst teams in division 1
- 1:00:30football. And it's not like, you know,
- 1:00:33everybody looks last week's um on Rogaine well they blew their
- 1:00:35doors off the other three games weren't that way.
- 1:00:37The other three games were super tight.
- 1:00:39So I'm sitting here looking at Syracuse who competed with UNC
- 1:00:44beat Georgia, Tech, competitive with Juke.
- 1:00:47I'm trying to figure out what Vegas season.
- 1:00:50This. And, you know what?
- 1:00:51This is one of those like legal limit bets, give me Syracuse.
- 1:00:54Give me the 3 points. Syracuse is going to win this
- 1:00:57game outright and I think it's within 10.
- 1:01:02Somebody said home run, didn't they?
- 1:01:03Yes, sir. All right, while Brian
- 1:01:07celebrates. Sorry,
- 1:01:20Nothing Syracuse wins out, right.
- 1:01:21So give me Syracuse in the three main where I know we're lining
- 1:01:26right up here and this is you know no drama to our listeners
- 1:01:30here but screw it. You gotta go with what we know
- 1:01:34from it's like looking at bachelder.
- 1:01:36A liberty for movies playing shitty teams, haven't struggled
- 1:01:40with some of them a light, therefore know winning by 50
- 1:01:43each game. So go here, it doesn't just
- 1:01:46drawn here in a little bit, to get some drama.
- 1:01:49Don't worry. About that plus it might be one
- 1:01:52of those things if we could read enough by the last few pics we
- 1:01:55just meet you might look at each other like screw you even though
- 1:01:57I liked the other team I'm going to go turned out good.
- 1:02:02You were thinking so let's go up to Notre Dame Stadium.
- 1:02:09The Irish versus the Cardinals motor dame Lane seven.
- 1:02:14Teen points to Louisville. We think here.
- 1:02:19And this, this was the one that I've been scratching my head on
- 1:02:23the most because Notre Dame is obviously a better team at this
- 1:02:29point, but I just don't think that they're going to score
- 1:02:32enough to cover 17. So I'm going to take Louisville
- 1:02:36in the 17, Jesus Christ. I thought this would be the one
- 1:02:39that we would disagree, but now it's not and I'm this is what
- 1:02:44I'm not because Notre Dame is a better team.
- 1:02:48No, no I'm going to win this game, the probably going to get
- 1:02:51to the high 30s but I think Louisville Stills got a good
- 1:02:54enough offense to get to the mid 20s, maybe even low 30s.
- 1:02:57So 17 is way too much. We saw last week, Notre Dame
- 1:03:01Lane 21 against Florida State, they jumped on them early, but
- 1:03:04then they kind of turn the gas off.
- 1:03:06I don't see that this week. I see more Notre Dame getting a
- 1:03:08little bit ahead and just keeping Louisville at Arms Bay
- 1:03:11but not by 17 points. So, we're agreeing on everything
- 1:03:16so far. All right, bro.
- 1:03:20Travel guys, 0, welcome, o drama.
- 1:03:24Because you're brave just jacked another homerun dead center
- 1:03:27field. It's 82 in the bottom of the
- 1:03:29seventh, so it's not man, you are.
- 1:03:32If that boy that was that was wild.
- 1:03:34All right, so do you think versus NC State in Sea State 4
- 1:03:40and a half Point favorite both coming off.
- 1:03:44When's Duke their first one of the Season versus Syracuse NC
- 1:03:47State? You know, with a 17-point went
- 1:03:50up the road here in Charlottesville but I feel like
- 1:03:55this is a toughie because you know what we've seen with Duke
- 1:04:01when they don't turn the ball over against, you know, upper
- 1:04:06echelon Notre Dame. 14-point game versus us a 10 point game.
- 1:04:14It was ten point Ida field. Goal does not count unless you
- 1:04:19Which, you know that Scott Van Pelt about that.
- 1:04:22That's one of those gut shots that they took the other
- 1:04:24Saturday, but I'm sitting here and saying, is you going to
- 1:04:28continue this path of not turning the ball over a ton and
- 1:04:33NC State? Is it Ryan clearly did something
- 1:04:39on the other screen? These three going to keep their
- 1:04:42role going from pit? I think in Sea state does.
- 1:04:46I think NC State wins this game by touching my things?
- 1:04:48To be a pretty good fault game. But give me n c-- State.
- 1:04:52I'll lay the four and a half. Dude, right there with you.
- 1:05:04We sold. I mean, both of these teams
- 1:05:06struggle to stop the run sometimes and I think NC State's
- 1:05:10going to run up, run on Duke a lot better than do groans
- 1:05:14against NC State. I think that Leary is a little
- 1:05:19more efficient with the football and Chase prices.
- 1:05:25So let me let me take NC State, I think they'll cover that four
- 1:05:28and a half. Okay, I mean me and you again on
- 1:05:34the same page, I think what's happening.
- 1:05:36Now, Brian is we're seeing more and more of the team's, we're
- 1:05:40getting a better feel of who they are now.
- 1:05:43By all means, if NC State turns the ball over three times, they
- 1:05:47can lose this game, they're going to have to pray clean, but
- 1:05:53they're playing. They're on a roll right now,
- 1:05:56okin battle, anything I say, unless his Georgia Tech, because
- 1:05:59I still got 04, Fuel for their games in Georgia, Tech everybody
- 1:06:09that just nothing just turn the Jets off and be like, we're
- 1:06:17gonna win this game 2814. We're not scoring another point
- 1:06:19he liked it, all right. Really they're going to send
- 1:06:32their going to do whatever they want to do as we go back and
- 1:06:35revisit the first day. All right, Brian Wake.
- 1:06:37Forest, UVA UVA the road favorite at two and a half.
- 1:06:42So one of those basically pick them games, although you do
- 1:06:46know, two and a half can bite you.
- 1:06:47When somebody wins by point in here, like I was on the wrong
- 1:06:51side of that line. So Brian UVA.
- 1:06:54Wake who you got What's the status of Ginger Tebow?
- 1:07:03Ginger plant. Let's see here.
- 1:07:08He was concussed last week trying to get it up here.
- 1:07:13Give me one moment. What day was this on?
- 1:07:17That was the 12th real live radio podcasting here.
- 1:07:31Everything. Efforting efforting efforting
- 1:07:33I'm trying to get to did a search here.
- 1:07:37Let me jump on the twittersphere and see if anyone has anything
- 1:07:40on Brandon Armstrong. You feel like that line though?
- 1:07:44You feel like if he was starting, strong is playing.
- 1:07:47I think they cover which I mean, essentially saying, I think UVA
- 1:07:52wins the football game and maybe a little more.
- 1:07:58Basically this was a decision day for Brandon Armstrong.
- 1:08:02So are you taking them regardless?
- 1:08:04I think I'm taking them regardless.
- 1:08:06I'm definitely taking them if Armstrong's playing.
- 1:08:09But let's go ahead and just say I'm taking them regardless.
- 1:08:12If we don't know all right, well since we don't know and UVA does
- 1:08:18the asinine thing of giving quarterback numbers 36 99 98 and
- 1:08:2560 giving won't come on. It's a tradition.
- 1:08:29You pick your number. Simply if I was a quarterback
- 1:08:35and I walk in, and I don't care. If I'm the 3D guy, I'd like to
- 1:08:39get a number 17 coach, not taking over here.
- 1:08:50What I'll just be like man if I don't get my number because I
- 1:08:59fucking quarterback has it. You know how pissed I am
- 1:09:02therefore portal Fame day. Maybe the next one, FSU, UNC
- 1:09:53Braun UNC land 13 points. I'm going to kick off with this
- 1:09:57one yet. Last week FSU played a very good
- 1:10:01game against what against Notre Dame and they lost the covered.
- 1:10:06They played respectable you know it wasn't like the dumpster fire
- 1:10:10that looked like against Jacksonville State or against
- 1:10:13Miami. UNC just you know what happened
- 1:10:19with them. Um, vs.
- 1:10:20Us. We saw it.
- 1:10:21They ran the ball down our throats, they held back our
- 1:10:25comebacks a couple times. But I'm sitting here and I'm
- 1:10:28wondering who gets back to A normal level quicker.
- 1:10:34And what I see is I think we're UNC played last week is closer
- 1:10:37to their normal than what Florida state did.
- 1:10:40So I think Florida State comes tumbling down this week, I think
- 1:10:43UNC wins this game essentially. Sam how rubs it in the face of
- 1:10:47the team. He originally committed to give
- 1:10:50me UNC, I'm laying 13. I'm feeling you and see
- 1:10:55somewhere in the neighborhood of, you know, 3820.
- 1:11:00So, probably a competitive game till the end.
- 1:11:03When essentially, the Badness of the Florida State Defense starts
- 1:11:06showing through, I'm right there with you and I think it's going
- 1:11:11to be kind of one of those late covers.
- 1:11:17I think UNC is going to play. Not quite as good as the running
- 1:11:21game is they did against us number one, because FSU for all
- 1:11:24their faults on defense. Yes, I am talented interior
- 1:11:29defense of Wyman that will help everything they have going on
- 1:11:33and they're more or less going to be having their starting
- 1:11:36defense. We think so So I think those two
- 1:11:40factors, keep it closer than it should be.
- 1:11:43But I think UNC either touchdown late to make it 14 or feel
- 1:11:47goalie. Maybe push it to 17.
- 1:11:50I don't think it's going to be much more than a 17-point win
- 1:11:53for you and see. Okay, but I think they, I think
- 1:11:56they definitely cover the 13 over 13.
- 1:11:58Awesome. All right.
- 1:12:00Well, the last game we're going to pick this week is the big one
- 1:12:03that essentially Saturday night. You'll probably have it on your
- 1:12:09phone or your iPad and I'll have it on one of the top two TVs
- 1:12:12here in the house. Alabama, Georgia and Tuscaloosa,
- 1:12:18without Nick Saban, as I'm sure everybody listen to this podcast
- 1:12:23knows saving tested positive for the coronavirus.
- 1:12:27So he is a, he's officially out. But now and as we were sitting
- 1:12:33here Brian and you were going through your You're UVA pick.
- 1:12:38I saw something that scrolled up on the screen and I want to
- 1:12:40check this out. They are potentially saying this
- 1:12:43might be a false negative test for Nick Saban.
- 1:12:48I don't know if you false positive.
- 1:12:49Yeah. False positive, excuse me.
- 1:12:51So he might be on the sideline. He might be on the sidelines and
- 1:12:54I'm trying to pull it out just as a precaution or something.
- 1:12:58Potentially potentially, let me look it up here.
- 1:13:02I mean it literally scroll down the bottom line about five
- 1:13:09minutes ago. So I want to see what they said
- 1:13:15here. So Brian while I'm trying to
- 1:13:17look that up, when we pitch it to you Bammel and four and a
- 1:13:20half against Georgia right now to our knowledge, no saving on
- 1:13:24the sidelines. If I find something while you're
- 1:13:26doing this I will inform you. Think that line would be 6 and a
- 1:13:31half. If if saving was definitely
- 1:13:33coaching. Okay, I'm going to take, I'm
- 1:13:37still going to take bama. What do you think?
- 1:13:44I think I still don't trust their defense at all yet, which
- 1:13:53is something weird to say about Nick Saban coach team.
- 1:13:56Okay? But I think they're going to
- 1:13:58score enough points and I think others going to give it a gas.
- 1:14:05Ausa. Tuffy trying to look everywhere.
- 1:14:08I wish you would scroll down again.
- 1:14:10I would see who's reporting that.
- 1:14:15Yeah, I don't think Stetson Bennett the fourth and the gorge
- 1:14:23offense is going to have the gas or the dynamic play calling to
- 1:14:30keep up with Alabama. Emma like Ole Miss.
- 1:14:33Did you know that? That's one thing.
- 1:14:37If Lane kiffin ever got his act together and stayed someone on
- 1:14:41the straight and narrow Ole Miss will be under probation.
- 1:14:43At least three years. Trust me.
- 1:14:48But they don't. And, you know, they have Todd
- 1:14:52Monken come in, who was an Oklahoma state with Gundy and
- 1:14:55then went to the NFL so it's getting better.
- 1:15:01But what you're saying is Georges going to hold Alabama
- 1:15:05down and I'm with you, I don't think they can do that.
- 1:15:10I think Bama will get a couple in the first half, they might
- 1:15:14get one in the third quarter. But in the fourth quarter
- 1:15:16eventually what's going to happen is it's what you said.
- 1:15:18They're going to give out of gas and I feel like this is like a
- 1:15:233521 game where it's going to be probably a super fun game to
- 1:15:27watch as fans. We won't be doing.
- 1:15:32So yeah, that is what it is. That's why, you know, you know,
- 1:15:39minimum three TVs, when you get your man cave, folks.
- 1:15:41Minimum that's what's happening. Okay, by the way, rent time.
- 1:15:46I'm taking down later four-and-a-half.
- 1:15:48Get a man cave. If you don't have multiple TVs,
- 1:15:51it's worthless. You could have a pool table, a
- 1:15:53dartboard, a super great bar. If you have one TV, I sit here
- 1:15:57and say what game and watch you all.
- 1:15:59Watch the brave cool. I got money on the college
- 1:16:01football game right now. Need to watch that white one TV.
- 1:16:05Then your man cave has failed. If I have to follow a game, I
- 1:16:13play of money on on my cellular device.
- 1:16:17That's probably a problem. So, gotten up the man cave game,
- 1:16:21three TVs minimum, and if you're spending that sort of money, you
- 1:16:24can have a nice big projector. You put two behind the bar
- 1:16:27because for your degenerate friends, who come up, Who are
- 1:16:31betting the Sunbelt. Lake kick this weekend.
- 1:16:57I bet you smoking some good. We go and brisket, mmm.
- 1:17:05Yes, sir, going brisket this weekend, buddy?
- 1:17:09It's going to probably be a long smoke but it should be a good
- 1:17:12one. And then we Feast, then you
- 1:17:16Feast, didn't you face, you know, I love having the 8:00
- 1:17:19games and I know some people growl about it and stuff, but
- 1:17:23have any anger plot games is, it's really nice.
- 1:17:26If you're staying at home, you know, this is a normal season,
- 1:17:31you know, with the SEC network going to Blacksburg, I'm sure
- 1:17:34there are people, like, yeah, it's cool.
- 1:17:37Love have a night games in Lanes.
- 1:17:38Awesome. And get home at 4:00 in the
- 1:17:40morning though, it's kind of sucks.
- 1:17:44Well, if you're going to go for the eight o'clock game, you need
- 1:17:47to get a hotel somewhere Blacksburg, Roanoke Salem
- 1:17:51Radford and just stay, you know, because, you know, to drive
- 1:17:57back, unless you have someone who is just willing to drive
- 1:18:00back, it's just not fun. Now, me and you last year,
- 1:18:07obviously. 3:30 kicks on the perfect, kick for a full day
- 1:18:13trip. Yeah, right.
- 1:18:16If you if you gotta if you've got to travel from anything more
- 1:18:19than two hours to Blacksburg 3:30 is the perfect kick because
- 1:18:24you can still travel in the morning and tailgate and you can
- 1:18:27still drive back the same day and not get back.
- 1:18:31You know too late where you can still get a little decent shut
- 1:18:34out of that night. Yeah, we got back to @midnight.
- 1:18:38We got back at midnight we left what 715 we rolling.
- 1:18:41The Blacksburg, we hit Sharkey's, we hit Tides we get
- 1:18:44the tailgate scene. We even went in the stadium
- 1:18:47early. so, Again, 8:00 kicks. My advice still leave at 7:00 in
- 1:18:56the morning, you get a hotel room somewhere between in the
- 1:18:59greater New River Valley, anything else we have, missed it
- 1:19:04with the exception of Arkansas, state, and Georgia State are now
- 1:19:08at 101 points so be over in that game.
- 1:19:17What's I just want to see what it was but surely they got in
- 1:19:22that game. I'm was 73.
- 1:19:34The third quarter that was crushed again it's a fun about
- 1:19:37game who's doing that I did we got nothing else bronze Bravo's
- 1:19:42we date to two in the eighth and we also way three outs away from
- 1:19:46going up. 31 we are going to wrap up this episode of The
