- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So how quickly can you pivot? Like how quickly can you know
- 0:34that your plans got completely screwed up and you can pivot?
- 0:37I'm going to tell you a little story.
- 0:39So I had plans, bought tickets way ahead of time to go to the
- 0:44State Fair. Like I'm talking six months
- 0:46ahead of time. Get them at a huge discount.
- 0:48Bought them, said, all right, we're going to make the trip.
- 0:51We've never been able to make the trip to the State Fair.
- 0:53So I was like, OK, it's like 2 1/2 hours away from us, we're
- 0:56going to do it. So here we are.
- 0:59It's over the course of, I don't know, 10 days, 11 days,
- 1:02something like that. For the 1st 8 days of this or
- 1:086-7 days of it, it rains and it just doesn't rain a little.
- 1:12It rains like torrential downpours and we ended up with
- 1:1510 inches of rain. So it was like it was messy, it
- 1:17was gross, and there was no way anybody was going to make it to
- 1:21go outside to the fair and feel enthusiastic about that because
- 1:25it was so gross. So obviously didn't go to the
- 1:29fair. Just see that like, OK, this
- 1:32weekend we're going to make it to go to the fair.
- 1:35Could have gone today, but it was open today.
- 1:39However, I had clients in town and we had had plans for a long
- 1:43time that they were going to come out to the farm and I was
- 1:46going to have them, as you know, lunch guests and my family was
- 1:52attending. I was really looking forward to
- 1:54it. So no fair today and the weather
- 1:56is gorgeous. Super nice weekend coming up and
- 1:59I was like, OK, tomorrow we're going to go to the fair.
- 2:02We had it all worked out. The whole plan was set in place.
- 2:06And then I go to look at how far the fair is calculating the
- 2:10time, what time does it open, all of this.
- 2:13And there's a notice on there that says game day, which would
- 2:16be the, you know, today and like, OK, figuring out where,
- 2:21where are we going to check this out?
- 2:24And game day, I'm not game day. What is game day?
- 2:29There's no game there. Well, across the street from it
- 2:33is where they play college football, and game day in the
- 2:37South is a very big thing. So we start looking and there I
- 2:43do research and I'm like, how quickly does the stadium fill
- 2:45up? The game starts at 12:45.
- 2:48Fairgrounds open at 10:00 AM. What time do people start going?
- 2:53Are they allowed to go in and get set up for game day?
- 2:56Well, that would be 7:00 AM and it says right on the site that
- 3:03expect extreme, not not like heavy extreme traffic delays.
- 3:09I'm like, you have got to be kidding me.
- 3:11So of course I immediately go, I don't want to, I'm not going to
- 3:16put up with that kind of stuff. I don't want to do that.
- 3:18That's not my jam. I don't want to sit in traffic.
- 3:21I don't want to do this. So immediately I'm like, OK,
- 3:24let's pivot. We can go Sunday.
- 3:27Well, can't go Sunday because Sunday's National Football
- 3:30League. And of course, you know, my the
- 3:34person in my life does not want to go because he's got to watch
- 3:39his game. And I'm like, OK, so I am I
- 3:43going to be upset that I bought the tickets way ahead of time?
- 3:46No, I mean, if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.
- 3:49I had them say La Vie, they were not that expensive when you buy
- 3:53them way ahead of time. So I'll chalk it up to a
- 3:56donation to the fair. Now that leaves me like, OK,
- 3:59well, my plans are ruined, So what am I supposed to do?
- 4:02So immediately I'm thinking pivot.
- 4:04OK, it's going to be nice. It's going to be cool.
- 4:07It's a great day for a farmers market.
- 4:09And also there's a whole other art show going on in downtown.
- 4:13So I'm like, OK, I'm just going to go to the art show.
- 4:16And immediately I was just elevated back up to, oh,
- 4:20something exciting, something different, something fun to do,
- 4:23allowing myself to take on the pivot and not get all wound up
- 4:27about the fact that, oh, this sucks, I wanted to go to the
- 4:31fair, blah, blah, blah. You know how it happens.
- 4:34And I mean, I, when I was a kid, I loved the fair and I couldn't
- 4:38wait for it every year. And it was the the actually the
- 4:42fairgrounds, where the fairgrounds were when I was a
- 4:44kid is now completely gone. And I think it's a housing
- 4:47development, which just makes me sad.
- 4:49But it was such a great thing to go to that fair.
- 4:51I loved it every year. And I really wanted to go to
- 4:55this one, but here's the beautiful part.
- 4:57There is another fair that's coming up.
- 4:59It's just not the State Fair, but it's like a version of the
- 5:03State Fair. It's just a little bit smaller.
- 5:05So we'll attend that and I'll allow myself to pivot and I
- 5:08won't get myself upset about it because hey, I apparently I
- 5:11wasn't meant to go. And that's my belief.
- 5:14So where can you show up with that in your life?
- 5:17Where can you use that same mentality?
- 5:19Oh, didn't work out, wasn't meant to go.
- 5:21No big deal. Going to move on.
- 5:23It's a really useful way. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:26you have a blessed day and I am off to the art show.
- 5:29I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
