- 0:00Welcome to the Daily Audio Torah. Today is September
- 0:0425th. Now let's continue our journey reading through the
- 0:08entire Bible in one year. This week we are reading
- 0:11from the New Living Translation for the Old Testament and for the
- 0:16New Testament.
- 0:19Isaiah 45:11-48:11.
- 0:25This is what the Lord, the Creator and Holy One of Israel,
- 0:28says: Do you, Israel, question what I do?
- 0:33Do you give me orders about the work of my hands? I am
- 0:37the one who made the earth and created people to live on it.
- 0:40With my hands I stretched out the heavens. All the
- 0:44millions of stars are at my command. I will raise
- 0:48up Cyrus to fulfill my righteous
- 0:52purpose, and I will guide all his
- 0:56actions. He will restore my city
- 0:59and free my captive people, and not for
- 1:04a reward. Reward. I, the Lord Almighty, have spoken.
- 1:08This is what the Lord says: The Egyptians,
- 1:12Ethiopians, and Sabaeans will be subject to you.
- 1:16They will come to you with all their merchandise, and it will all be yours.
- 1:20They will follow you as prisoners in chains.
- 1:24They will fall to their knees in front of you and say, God is with
- 1:28you, and he is the only God. Truly,
- 1:31O God of Israel, our Savior, You work in strange
- 1:35and mysterious ways. All who make idols will be humiliated and
- 1:40disgraced, but the Lord will save the people of Israel with
- 1:44eternal salvation.
- 1:49They will never again be humiliated and disgraced throughout everlasting ages.
- 1:54For the Lord is God, and He created the heavens and earth and
- 1:58put everything in place. He made the world to be lived in,
- 2:02not to be a place of empty chaos. I am the Lord,
- 2:06He says, and there is no other. I publicly
- 2:09proclaim bold promises. I do not whisper
- 2:13obscurities in some dark corner so no one can understand what I
- 2:17mean. And I did not tell the people of Israel
- 2:21to ask Me for something I did not plan to give.
- 2:24I, the Lord, speak only what is true and right.
- 2:28Gather together and come, you fugitives from surrounding
- 2:32nations! What fools they are who carry around their
- 2:36wooden idols and pray to gods that cannot save! Consult together,
- 2:40argue your case, and state your proofs that idol worship
- 2:45pays. Who made these things known long ago?
- 2:49What idol ever told you they would happen?
- 2:53Was it not I, the Lord? For there is no other God but
- 2:57Me, a just God and a Savior— no, not one!
- 3:01Let all the world look to Me for salvation. For I am God;
- 3:06there is no other. I have sworn by My own
- 3:09name, and I will never go back on My word. Every knee will bow to
- 3:14Me, and every tongue will confess allegiance to My name.
- 3:17The people will declare, The Lord is the source of all
- 3:21my righteousness and strength. And all who were angry with him will come
- 3:25to him and be ashamed. In the Lord all
- 3:29the generations of Israel will be justified, and in
- 3:33him they will boast.
- 3:37The idols of Babylon, Bel and Nebo, are being hauled
- 3:41away on ox carts. But look,
- 3:44the beasts are staggering under the
- 3:47weight. Both the idols and the ones carrying
- 3:52them are bowed down. The gods cannot protect the people,
- 3:56and the people cannot protect the gods. They go off into
- 4:00captivity together. Listen to
- 4:04me, all you who are left in Israel. I created you and
- 4:08have cared for you since before you were born. I will be
- 4:12your God throughout your lifetime. Until your hair is white
- 4:16with age. I made you,
- 4:20and I will care for you. I will carry you along
- 4:24and save you. To whom will you
- 4:27compare Me? Who is My equal? Some people
- 4:31pour out their silver and gold and hire a craftsman to make a god
- 4:35from it. Then they bow down and worship it. They carry
- 4:39it around on their shoulders, and when they set it down, it stays there.
- 4:43It cannot even move. And when someone prays to it, there is
- 4:47no answer. It has no power to get anyone out of trouble.
- 4:51Do not forget this, you guilty ones, and do not forget the
- 4:55things I have done throughout history. For I am God,
- 4:59I alone. I am God, and there is no one else like Me.
- 5:04Only I can tell you what is going to happen even before it happens.
- 5:08Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever
- 5:12I wish.
- 5:16I will call a swift bird of prey from the east, a leader
- 5:20from a distant land who will come and do my bidding. I have said I
- 5:23would do it, and I will. Listen to me, you stubborn,
- 5:27evil people, for I am ready to set things right,
- 5:30not in the distant future, but right now.
- 5:34I am ready to save Jerusalem and give my glory To
- 5:38Israel.
- 5:41Come, Babylon, unconquered one, sit in the dust,
- 5:45for your days of glory, pomp, and honor have ended.
- 5:49O daughter of Babylonia, never again will you be the lovely
- 5:53princess, tender and delicate. Take heavy millstones
- 5:56and grind the corn. Remove your veil and strip
- 6:00off your robe. Expose yourself to public view.
- 6:04You will be naked and burdened with shame. I will take vengeance
- 6:08against you and will not negotiate. Our Redeemer,
- 6:12whose name is the Lord Almighty, is the Holy One of Israel.
- 6:16O daughter of Babylon, sit now in darkness and silence.
- 6:20Never again will you be known as the Queen of Kingdoms.
- 6:24For I was angry with My chosen people and began their
- 6:27punishment by letting them fall into your hands. But you,
- 6:31Babylon, showed them no mercy. You have forced even
- 6:35the elderly to carry heavy burdens. You thought,
- 6:39I will reign forever as queen of the world.
- 6:43You did not care at all about My people or think about the consequences
- 6:47of your actions. You are a pleasure-crazy
- 6:51kingdom, living at ease and feeling secure, bragging as
- 6:55if you were the greatest in the world. You say,
- 6:58I'm self-sufficient and not accountable to anyone.
- 7:02I will never be a widow or lose my children.
- 7:05Well, those 2 things will come upon you in
- 7:09a moment— widowhood and the
- 7:12loss of your children. Yes, these calamities will come upon
- 7:16you despite all your witchcraft and magic.
- 7:21You felt secure in all your wickedness,
- 7:24No one sees me, you said. Your wisdom and knowledge have caused
- 7:28you to turn away from me and claim, I am self-sufficient
- 7:32and not accountable to anyone. So disaster
- 7:36will overtake you suddenly, and you won't be able to charm
- 7:39it away. Calamity will fall upon you,
- 7:43and you won't be able to buy your way out.
- 7:46A catastrophe will arise so fast that you won't
- 7:50know what hit you. Call out the demon hordes you have worshiped
- 7:54all these years. Ask them to help you strike terror
- 7:58into the hearts of people once again. You have more than
- 8:02enough advisors, astrologers, and stargazers. Let them stand
- 8:06up and save you from what the future holds. But they are as useless
- 8:11as dried grass burning in a fire. They cannot
- 8:15even save themselves. You will get no help from them at all.
- 8:19Their hearth is not a place to sit for warmth. And all
- 8:22your friends, those with whom you have done business since childhood,
- 8:26will slip away and disappear, unable to help.
- 8:31Listen to me, O family of Jacob who are called by the name
- 8:34of Israel and born into the family of Judah.
- 8:38Listen, you who take oaths in the name of the Lord and call on the
- 8:41God of Israel. You don't follow through on any of your promises,
- 8:45even though you call yourself the Holy City and talk about
- 8:49depending on the God of Israel, whose name is the Lord Almighty.
- 8:53Time and again I warned you about what was going to happen in the future.
- 8:57Then suddenly I took action, and all my
- 9:01predictions came true. I know how stubborn and obstinate
- 9:05you are. Your necks are as unbending as iron. You are as hardheaded
- 9:11as bronze! That is why I told you ahead of time what
- 9:14I was going to do. That way, you could never
- 9:18say, My idols did it! My wooden image and metal
- 9:21god commanded it to happen! You have heard my predictions
- 9:25and seen them fulfilled, but you refuse to admit it.
- 9:29Now I will tell you new things I have not mentioned before,
- 9:33secrets you have not yet heard. They are brand new,
- 9:37not things from the past. So you cannot say, we knew that
- 9:41all the time. Yes, I will tell you of things that
- 9:45are entirely new, for I know so well what traitors you
- 9:49are. You have been rebels from your earliest childhood,
- 9:52rotten through and through. Yet, for my own sake
- 9:56and for the honor of my name, I will hold back my anger and not
- 10:00wipe you out. I have refined you, but not
- 10:03in the way silver is refined. Rather, I have refined
- 10:07you in the furnace of suffering.
- 10:12I will rescue you for My name's sake.
- 10:15That way, the pagan nations will not be able
- 10:19to claim that their gods have conquered Me. I will not let them have
- 10:23My glory.
- 10:28Ephesians 4:1-16.
- 10:32Therefore I, Paul, a prisoner for serving the Lord,
- 10:36beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you
- 10:39have been called by God. Be humble and gentle.
- 10:43Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because
- 10:47of your love. Always keep yourselves united
- 10:50in the Holy Spirit and bind yourselves together with peace.
- 10:54We are all one body, and we have the same Spirit, and we have
- 10:58all been called to the same glorious future.
- 11:02There is only one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
- 11:06and there is only one God and Father who is over us all and
- 11:09in us all and living through us all.
- 11:12However, he has given each one of us a special gift according
- 11:15to the generosity of Christ. That is why the Scriptures say,
- 11:20When He ascended to the heights, He led a crowd of captives
- 11:23and gave gifts to His people. Notice that
- 11:27it says He ascended. This means that Christ first
- 11:31came down to the lowly world in which we live. The same
- 11:34One who came down is the One who ascended higher than all
- 11:38the heavens, so that His rule might fill the entire universe.
- 11:43He is the One who gave these gifts to the church. The apostles,
- 11:47the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.
- 11:51Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do
- 11:54His work and build up the church, the body of
- 11:57Christ, until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of
- 12:01God's Son that we will be mature and full-grown
- 12:06in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature
- 12:10of Christ. Then we
- 12:15will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe
- 12:19because someone has told us something different, or because someone has
- 12:22cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth.
- 12:26Instead, we will hold to the truth in love,
- 12:30becoming more and more in every way like Christ,
- 12:34who is the head of his body, the church. Under his
- 12:38direction the whole body is fitted together perfectly.
- 12:42As each part does its own special work, it helps the other
- 12:46parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and
- 12:51full of love.
- 12:58Psalm 68:19-35.
- 13:03Praise the Lord! Praise God our Savior! For each day
- 13:06he carries us in his arms.
- 13:10Our God is a God who saves.
- 13:15The Sovereign Lord rescues us from death. But God
- 13:19will smash the heads of his enemies, crushing the skulls
- 13:22of those who love their guilty ways. The Lord says, I will bring
- 13:26my enemies down from Bashan. I will bring them up from the depths
- 13:31of the sea. You, my people, will wash your feet in
- 13:34their blood, and even your dogs will get their share.
- 13:38Your procession has come into view, O God, the procession
- 13:42of my God and King as he goes into the sanctuary. Singers are
- 13:46in front, musicians are behind; with them are
- 13:50young women playing tambourines. Praise God, all you people
- 13:54of Israel! Praise the Lord, the source of Israel's life!
- 13:58Look! The little tribe of Benjamin leads the way.
- 14:02Then comes a great throng of rulers from Judah and all the rulers of
- 14:06Zebulun and Naphtali. Summon your might, O God!
- 14:10Display your power, O God, as you have in the past! The kings
- 14:14of the earth are bringing tribute to your Temple in Jerusalem.
- 14:18Rebuke these enemy nations, these wild animals lurking
- 14:21in the reeds, This herd of bulls among the weaker calves.
- 14:25Humble those who demand tribute from us. Scatter the nations
- 14:29that delight in war. Let Egypt come with gifts of precious
- 14:33metals. Let Ethiopia bow in submission to God.
- 14:37Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth, sing praises to
- 14:41the Lord. Sing to the One who rides across the ancient heavens,
- 14:45His mighty voice thundering from the sky. Tell everyone
- 14:49about God's power. His majesty shines down
- 14:52on Israel. His strength is mighty in
- 14:56the heavens. God is awesome in His sanctuary.
- 15:00The God of Israel gives power and strength to
- 15:04His people.
- 15:08Praise be to God!
- 15:13Proverbs 24: 3 and 4.
- 15:17A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense.
- 15:22Through knowledge, its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious
- 15:26riches and valuables.
- 15:31I want to speak to you today from our reading from Isaiah 45 to
- 15:3548, and then we'll also touch on Ephesians
- 15:394. But I want to begin with a question for you, and that
- 15:43is this: Have you ever had a day where you were just really
- 15:48weary and tired? Maybe you've
- 15:52been working on a project for a long period of time. Maybe you've been in
- 15:56a very demanding job and you're just
- 15:59exhausted. And it's been a long time since you've had a day
- 16:03off or a real vacation, a mental vacation,
- 16:07and you're just weary. I have a verse for
- 16:11you from Psalm 68.
- 16:15For each day He carries us in His arms.
- 16:21That's a beautiful picture. On those days
- 16:24when we're weary, when we're tired, when we've run out
- 16:28of steam and we just feel exhausted,
- 16:32we can just cry out to Him and He carries us
- 16:36in His arms. To continue this thought from
- 16:41Isaiah chapter 46, beginning in verse
- 16:453, listen to Me, all you who are left in Israel.
- 16:48I created you, and I have cared for you since you were
- 16:52born. Now, He's speaking to
- 16:56the nation of Israel, but we can personalize this for
- 16:59each one of us personally. This is a word A
- 17:03personal word for you.
- 17:07I will be your God throughout your lifetime until
- 17:11your hair is white with age.
- 17:14I made you and I will care for you. I will
- 17:18carry you along and save
- 17:22you. What encouraging words!
- 17:26Whether you're a young adult and never married but hope to be
- 17:30one day, Whether you're an older person and you're a widower,
- 17:35whether you are somewhere in your 40s or 50s and
- 17:40you're— maybe you're divorced, maybe you're married.
- 17:44This is a promise. I will carry you along
- 17:48and I will save you. And He's saying here that
- 17:52He is with us from the moment we were created.
- 17:56I created you, says the Lord. And I have cared for you
- 17:59ever since you were born. He's with us every
- 18:02step of the way. He's with us in our sorrows,
- 18:06our trials, our heartache, our grief,
- 18:10our joys. He is with us every day,
- 18:14every moment. What a blessed hope!
- 18:19What a promise to stand on!
- 18:25Continuing on, He says in verse 10,
- 18:28only I can tell you what is going to happen even before
- 18:32it happens. Everything I plan will come to pass,
- 18:35for I do whatever I wish. This reveals
- 18:38to us the sovereignty of God. He is El Elyon.
- 18:42He is the Most High, and His plan and His purpose always
- 18:47prevails. Man may have his own plans,
- 18:49but the Lord's plan prevails.
- 18:54And so he knows what's going to happen tomorrow,
- 18:58the next day, the next year. He sees— he lives outside
- 19:02of time. And so coming back to chapter
- 19:0745, verse 13,
- 19:11it says, I will raise up Cyrus to fulfill my righteous purpose,
- 19:15and I will guide all his actions He will restore my city
- 19:19and free my captive people, and not for a reward.
- 19:23That's an example of how God sees and knows and prophesies
- 19:27things before they ever happen. So to
- 19:31give you the background, Israel, because they had gone into
- 19:34idolatry and wickedness and paganism,
- 19:38the southern kingdom Judah went into captivity into
- 19:42Babylon, and they were in Babylon for 70 years.
- 19:48Now there's other scripture in Jeremiah that talks about how after 70
- 19:51years they would be allowed to return home back to the
- 19:55land of Israel and to rebuild the city Jerusalem and to rebuild the temple.
- 20:01But this is a prophecy about, I'm going to raise up Cyrus.
- 20:04So he's naming the king who
- 20:08will fulfill God's purpose. And what was God's purpose? To give them
- 20:12the green light to release them and allow
- 20:16them to return back home. So what happened is while the Jews were
- 20:19in captivity in Babylon under
- 20:23the Babylonian leadership, one day the
- 20:28leadership gets overthrown and the Persians come in and they
- 20:31invade. And now Babylon is out and Persia
- 20:35has taken over. And so once Persia takes over,
- 20:40King Cyrus is raised up, and King Cyrus says to the Jewish people,
- 20:44you may now return to your homeland, and you may— and I'm
- 20:48even going to help you. I'm going to give you money to help pay for
- 20:53rebuilding the city of Jerusalem and rebuilding the temple.
- 20:56And it was all prophesied in the Scriptures hundreds
- 21:00of years before it actually happened.
- 21:05So that's an example. Of how the Lord
- 21:08prophesies. He gives us a prophecy and then
- 21:12hundreds of years later it comes to pass.
- 21:15Now, in this modern era that we live in,
- 21:21some have compared President Trump to King Cyrus.
- 21:25So how does that work? Well,
- 21:28biblical history is prophecy. And so the things
- 21:32that happened historically actually did happen, but they also
- 21:36are a prophetic blueprint or a template for future
- 21:40events in the future. And so different
- 21:44things that happen in the Bible, there are certain figures,
- 21:47people who play out that role, but that story
- 21:52can happen again. It's like the
- 21:55script of a play gets read again and there's
- 22:00new actors. The script remains the same, The director
- 22:03of that script, Jesus Christ, remains the same, but over
- 22:07time the actors can change. So having— with that
- 22:11concept in mind, many have compared Trump
- 22:14to Cyrus because Trump is the one in his first 4-year term
- 22:19that moved our embassy from Tel Aviv back to Jerusalem
- 22:25and came into agreement and alignment with Israel,
- 22:29that Jerusalem is the everlasting and eternal
- 22:33capital of the State of Israel.
- 22:36And so they have compared and likened Trump to King Cyrus.
- 22:41And we shall see how things play out during his second
- 22:454-year term. But so far, he has been a
- 22:50good friend and a good ally to Israel, as witnessed
- 22:54when Both the United States and Israel working together
- 22:58in tandem did a huge military strike against Iran to
- 23:02take out their nuclear capability.
- 23:08So I just want to leave
- 23:12this. Now I want to jump into Ephesians.
- 23:16And in Ephesians, we see a very,
- 23:19very core principle about what is the purpose of
- 23:24the church and what are some of the different roles or offices
- 23:30in the church that help to build the church up. Remember, the church
- 23:33is the Body of Christ and the church is the Bride
- 23:38of Christ, and Jesus loves the church.
- 23:43So in Ephesians chapter 4, verse 11,
- 23:47it says, He that is Christ, is the one who
- 23:50gave these gifts to the church: the apostles,
- 23:54the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors
- 23:58and teachers. Now I'll pause there.
- 24:01That's often called the fivefold ministry,
- 24:07but what we mostly see in the church are—
- 24:11maybe we see pastors quite a bit, we see pastors
- 24:15who lead the church, who teach on Sunday, and who give the sermon
- 24:19and the message on Sunday. We also see teachers in
- 24:22the church, different people who teach like a women's Bible study
- 24:26or a men's Bible study, or teachers who work in the children's
- 24:30ministry department. But what we don't see so
- 24:34much in the church that we really ought to see, because it's right now,
- 24:37it's like 2 fingers of the fivefold ministry,
- 24:41Just like you have 5 fingers on your hand, a thumb and 4 fingers
- 24:45to give you a hand. Mostly in the church
- 24:49we see pastors and we see teachers and that's it.
- 24:54But what this is outlining for us is that for the church to
- 24:57really grow, we need to see the apostles
- 25:02and the prophets and the evangelists.
- 25:05And those are kind of hidden. They're not really recognized
- 25:10or given a place, but very much needed.
- 25:14I mean, you get great evangelists who come along,
- 25:17people like Billy Graham, people like Charlie
- 25:22Kirk, who evangelized on many college campuses and then
- 25:25was suddenly assassinated.
- 25:30But these different, 5 different roles,
- 25:33the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher, Their job
- 25:38is to equip God's people to do His work and build up
- 25:42the church, the body of Christ, until we come to such unity
- 25:46in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature
- 25:50and full-grown in the Lord,
- 25:53measuring up to the full stature of Christ.
- 25:58So we pray that
- 26:03those all 5 offices, all 5 roles will be
- 26:07expressed and manifested in the church.
- 26:12Paul concludes in this section of scripture in verse
- 26:1715, and he says, instead, we will hold to the truth
- 26:20in love, becoming more and more in every
- 26:24way like Christ, who is the
- 26:28head of His body, the church. Under His direction,
- 26:32the whole body is fitted together perfectly.
- 26:36As each part does its own special work,
- 26:41it helps the other parts to grow so that the whole
- 26:44body is healthy and growing and full
- 26:49of love.
- 26:52So every one of us has a part to play and a role to play
- 26:57in a local church congregation.
- 27:01And our part is vital to
- 27:06the growing of the overall body. And when
- 27:09we don't go to church, we just say, well, I can get my teaching
- 27:13online. I can watch this teacher on YouTube and that teacher on
- 27:16YouTube. And I don't really believe in the church, and they're all a
- 27:20bunch of hypocrites, and yada, yada, yada. Yes, there have been some
- 27:24problems and issues in the church, and many people have been hurt.
- 27:28But you know what? You got to get over that one and
- 27:32find a local Bible-believing,
- 27:35Bible-teaching church and become part of the community.
- 27:41Be a part of the spiritual family. We need
- 27:45each other. Each one of us is like a piece to a jigsaw puzzle,
- 27:49and one little piece to a puzzle all by itself in isolation does
- 27:53not give much of a picture. But when you put all the pieces of
- 27:57the jigsaw puzzle together on a table and
- 28:00you begin to assemble the pieces together in order,
- 28:05a picture begins to emerge. Each and every one of
- 28:09us is one of those jigsaw puzzle pieces, and each one of us is needed
- 28:14in the local church.
- 28:18Okay, that's all I have for today. God bless you, and we'll see you
- 28:22tomorrow. Shalom.

- 29:36Adonai bless you and keep you. Adonai make
- 29:40his face to shine upon you and be gracious to
- 29:44you. Adonai lift up his countenance upon you and
- 29:48give you peace.
