Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: M hm.
- 0:12Speaker 2: So I'm Ronnie and I'm the vocalist in Bornovo Cyrus.
- 0:16Speaker 2: We have a new album out called Through Shadows. It
- 0:18Speaker 2: came out July eleventh, and we're stoked on it and
- 0:22Speaker 2: we hope, we're hoping, uh, people are listening to it
- 0:25Speaker 2: and liking it.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Right right, You couldn't answer much more than that.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yes, that's all we're asking for, pretty simple.
- 0:36Speaker 4: So it's the times Malicious Sibbon Studio album three Shadows
- 0:40Speaker 4: earlier this month, so I'm know i's had to be
- 0:42Speaker 4: in a couple of weeks. But how's the reception being
- 0:43Speaker 4: so far?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Honestly, I'm I'm very very stoked on the reception so far.
- 0:49Speaker 2: There's people that the numbers look good on Spotify, like,
- 0:54Speaker 2: there's been hardly any negative comments. You know, you get those,
- 0:58Speaker 2: you get those couple bad ones, but there hasn't been
- 1:01Speaker 2: really any bad ones. And people seem to be really
- 1:05Speaker 2: enjoying the album and you know, comparing it to other
- 1:08Speaker 2: albums that they love. So it's it's been great so far.
- 1:13Speaker 3: For those who might not have heard the album yet.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Bro tell us a bit more about it from the
- 1:16Speaker 4: musical point of view and what you were going forward
- 1:18Speaker 4: to this summer.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, so, uh, we we started writing this one,
- 1:25Speaker 2: uh honestly during COVID and different sections, different periods of
- 1:31Speaker 2: different sections of time, you know, like we took a
- 1:34Speaker 2: break and then we started back on it again. And
- 1:39Speaker 2: we've been holding out of this record for a long time.
- 1:41Speaker 2: It was it was completed a long time ago. I mean,
- 1:43Speaker 2: finally to have it out now feels feels awesome. But yeah,
- 1:49Speaker 2: we you know, we were writing as a band in
- 1:54Speaker 2: the studio and we were just you know, bouncing off
- 1:58Speaker 2: song ideas, bouncing off lyric ideas, and like we were
- 2:01Speaker 2: going through you know, hard times that I guess you'd say,
- 2:05Speaker 2: like it during uh, you know COVID, were wondering if
- 2:09Speaker 2: we're going to continue as a band or we're going
- 2:12Speaker 2: to keep doing this kind of thing. So yeah, it's
- 2:15Speaker 2: just pretty much, you know, it's a bunch of our
- 2:18Speaker 2: work combined in which makes an album. Yeah, so we're
- 2:24Speaker 2: we're stoked on it.
- 2:27Speaker 4: It's like it had a bit of a prolonged release schedule.
- 2:29Speaker 4: The first single, Torch Payer, came out in twenty twenty three,
- 2:32Speaker 4: so I suppose it showed it showed the evolution of
- 2:35Speaker 4: a band over top of year period, really, isn't it.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, We honestly we were wondering if we
- 2:41Speaker 2: would even put that on the album, and we decided, yeah,
- 2:43Speaker 2: let's do it. That song when we play live goes
- 2:47Speaker 2: over so well and people are just mashing and it's
- 2:51Speaker 2: a great live song to play.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Yeah, speaking of a lot of songs, mate, like you
- 2:56Speaker 4: would have had a chance to play a lot of
- 2:58Speaker 4: the songs from the album live by now, so were
- 3:00Speaker 4: there any either went down better than you thought they
- 3:02Speaker 4: would or any that maybe didn't go down as well
- 3:04Speaker 4: as what you hope they might.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I feel like, uh, right when we started playing Elevate,
- 3:14Speaker 2: that song just popped off live. You just saw people
- 3:17Speaker 2: bouncing and uh just enjoying it. And that's one of
- 3:22Speaker 2: my favorite songs to play live right now still is
- 3:26Speaker 2: the other ones we when when we started doing uh
- 3:29Speaker 2: more of the clean things. So it's my first time
- 3:31Speaker 2: ever doing cleans on a Born of as Syrus album.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I was kind of like, are people are gonna like this?
- 3:38Speaker 2: You know kind of thing, but uh, at the same time,
- 3:43Speaker 2: I just wanted to do it too, because that's what
- 3:45Speaker 2: I wanted to do and I wanted to try new things,
- 3:48Speaker 2: and yeah, and those songs go over great lives. So
- 3:55Speaker 2: we got the we Got a Mind Short Circuiting. That's
- 3:58Speaker 2: just a very brute, little technical song, and it just
- 4:02Speaker 2: people are headbanging every song so far, I feel like
- 4:05Speaker 2: all the newer stuff, it's like when we play the
- 4:06Speaker 2: newer stuff, it's like you can hear a difference compared
- 4:10Speaker 2: to the older stuff. You can just tell like this
- 4:12Speaker 2: is just, you know, we're just getting better at our
- 4:16Speaker 2: craft kind of thing.
- 4:18Speaker 3: You mentioned McLean singing, like how did you got with it? Right? Like, Sid,
- 4:21Speaker 3: it's the first time you've done up on the border
- 4:22Speaker 3: of the Sars album. So was it? Was it daunting
- 4:25Speaker 3: or was it foden or was it challenging?
- 4:28Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you know when we you know, like
- 4:33Speaker 2: during COVID and stuff, I always say COVID, but like,
- 4:37Speaker 2: you know, we were writing a lot of music together
- 4:39Speaker 2: as a band. So I would go to hang out
- 4:42Speaker 2: with my friends in Chicago and they'd be like, sing
- 4:46Speaker 2: on this, do it. I'm like, you know, I don't
- 4:49Speaker 2: really sing, like you want me to try singing on
- 4:51Speaker 2: this for real? And like so I would go in
- 4:53Speaker 2: the studio and I would work on their music and
- 4:55Speaker 2: I would sing on their stuff and they're just like, dude,
- 4:57Speaker 2: you got it, man, you got to do this more.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And I was like, okay, well yeah, sweet, I want
- 5:01Speaker 2: to do it on a Border with Osiers song. It
- 5:02Speaker 2: made me feel confident to bring it to Born of Osiers.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Yeah, fan reaction.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Have you had much feedback from the fans or do they?
- 5:11Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like it's been mainly positive. I
- 5:15Speaker 2: know there's there's always those metal fans that say Cleans
- 5:19Speaker 2: do not belong in metal, and I, you know, I
- 5:21Speaker 2: respect that. You know, if you don't like Cleans, you're not.
- 5:24Speaker 2: But like I feel like, you know, if there's a
- 5:26Speaker 2: time and a place, I feel like it makes the
- 5:28Speaker 2: song more, uh, you know, makes it different.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm very shadow as easy as seventh album as
- 5:37Speaker 4: a band mite, So do you think it gets easier
- 5:39Speaker 4: or how did they come up with a fresh material?
- 5:41Speaker 4: The more you're at it depends.
- 5:46Speaker 2: You know, everyone get those gets those creative rets where
- 5:49Speaker 2: you're just like, oh man, nothing's coming out. But like
- 5:55Speaker 2: usually what inspires us is like going on tour, touring
- 5:58Speaker 2: with other bands, seeing seeing other bands live can help.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And and then when you finally you know, you come
- 6:07Speaker 2: home from all the casts that we just went through.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You want to write something, and usually something good comes
- 6:14Speaker 2: out after you're back home from tour.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Yeah, so a lot of those lines that would you
- 6:19Speaker 4: say that Borns have changed or grown musically from your
- 6:22Speaker 4: debut A Higher Place three to three Shadows.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I mean we were kids when The New Rain came
- 6:32Speaker 2: out two thousand and seven. We were just stretched out
- 6:35Speaker 2: of high school, uh thirty six now, so we've been
- 6:39Speaker 2: doing it for a while, and I mean, I still
- 6:44Speaker 2: think we keep some of the elements from the New Rain,
- 6:48Speaker 2: but you know, not as technical and some songs more.
- 6:51Speaker 2: We have more structured songs now with like you know,
- 6:54Speaker 2: a verse, chorus and whatever whatnot.
- 6:56Speaker 5: But yeah, we we we try to harness the energy
- 7:02Speaker 5: we had when we were you know, angst teens and
- 7:07Speaker 5: uh you know, but I guess we've been We've been
- 7:12Speaker 5: slowly evolving in our own sound, and like I feel
- 7:15Speaker 5: like we when the New Rank came out, people kind
- 7:17Speaker 5: of start, like they said to us, like you kind
- 7:20Speaker 5: of started this movement where you got the keys.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And the breakdowns and like the syncopated like electronic elements
- 7:27Speaker 2: into metal, and like, I guess they're saying, we're one
- 7:30Speaker 2: of the pioneers. I don't know if we are, but
- 7:31Speaker 2: you know, so that's kind of cool to hear. But yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 2: we just like we just like uh trippy, heavy, fun
- 7:41Speaker 2: music that you can rock out.
- 7:44Speaker 4: To as a band, I guess might like how much
- 7:47Speaker 4: musical price do you think you've got left India?
- 7:51Speaker 2: How much do I? I can keep going? You know,
- 7:57Speaker 2: I got nothing else to do?
- 7:59Speaker 3: You know, this is it?
- 8:02Speaker 2: This is it? So hopefully many more years and uh,
- 8:06Speaker 2: you know, we've you know, we've had obstacles as a band.
- 8:10Speaker 2: You know, a lot of a lot of artists do.
- 8:12Speaker 2: And you either got to push forward or or give up.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And giving up doesn't feel good. So you don't want
- 8:19Speaker 2: to give up. You want to keep going.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I said, have you got any stokes coming up?
- 8:23Speaker 6: Right?
- 8:23Speaker 3: And you want to want to give a bit of
- 8:24Speaker 3: a push.
- 8:28Speaker 2: We have a US headliner called It's the Three Shadows headliner.
- 8:33Speaker 2: It's with the Browning Victims Acts, The Lost and Separation
- 8:39Speaker 2: and that's going to be a full US tour at
- 8:41Speaker 2: the start of October. So we're excited for that one.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Ronnie Will thanks pretty much for your time, Brier.
- 8:49Speaker 4: The album Three Shadow is out now and she's a
- 8:51Speaker 4: crack of mind, sight, best of luck with it and
- 8:53Speaker 4: hopefully it brings you under this side of the world eventually.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we can't wait to come back to Australia.
- 9:06Speaker 6: That's right off shack, stay.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Shag.
